Limo alterations can create weaknesses – 5/7/13
(05-07) 08:11 PDT SAN FRANCISCO — Investigators are likely to find that a fuel leak, an electrical short or the ignition of something flammable in the cabin or trunk caused a limousine blaze that killed five women on the San Mateo Bridge, experts on vehicle fires said Monday.
Authorities looking into Saturday’s fire revealed little Monday, but said the 1999 Lincoln Town Car with nine women aboard had not been in a crash before flames spread from its rear. They said road debris did not appear to be a factor.

Service Campaign: Should G.M. Have Recalled Saturn Ions for Steering Failures?
After fielding more than 600 complaints, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating whether General Motors should have recalled 384,000 Saturn Ion coupes and sedans as part of a larger recall earlier this year.
The recall of a million cars in March was prompted by a N.H.T.S.A. investigation in January, which concerned the electric power steering on 2005-10 Chevrolet Cobalts and 2007-10 Pontiac G5s.
Air bag recalls involve 1.3 million vehicles in U.S.
In one of the biggest auto-safety moves of the year, automakers on Thursday recalled more than 1.3 million vehicles in the U.S., part of 3 million worldwide for faulty air bags that could deploy and injure passengers.
The recall urges owners of certain older Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, General Motors and BMW vehicles to take their cars to dealerships. There, mechanics may need to replace faulty canisters that contain the propellant that activates air bags.
