2023 Kia Sorento

Automatic lift gate closed and injured child. was placing groceries in vehicle. closed lift gate with button on lift gate, child was next to me, but hand was behind him. liftgate closed and would not reopen. child was injured.

Moonroof unexpectedly shattered, like a bomb had gone off, sending thousands of pieces of glass into the interior and on the vehicle occupants (including 3 children [xxx] ) information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While i was driving on an interstate road(with no vehicles around) the sun roof of my 2023 kia sorento exploded and the glass completely shattered and caused pieces of the broken glass to fly off. thankfully i had the visor up so none of the glass fell onto me, otherwise myself and my two kids (3 year old and 6 month old) could have gotten seriously injured. with nearly 80% of the glass sunroof panel above the driver area popping off, that much glass falling onto me could have caused a serious distraction and caused me to run into another vehicle or lose control of the vehicle. at the time the sunroof shattered, there was nobody on the road or any external debris that could have caused the sunroof to shatter like that. i suddenly head a loud explosion that sounded almost like a shotgun being shot and was instantly startled, and when i realized we were all okay in the vehicle i heard the sound of glass sliding off the roof of my sorento. i then began to see chunks of glass falling on the road behind me which posed as a risk to other vehicles that were behind me and caused other drivers to swerve to avoid being hit by the glass. since this has happened, i have contacted kia and taken it in to my local service department. the service manager (when he inspected the sunroof) stated the glass is tempered glass and should not explode when cracked or shattered. other reports of this exact issue is prevalent online and poses a great risk to consumers, families, and other drivers on the road.

On passenger side interior between glove box and dashboard, there is a textured, metallic trim plate that during a sunny mid day, casts a reflection on the passenger side window over the top of the where the passenger side rear view mirror is.

The contact owns a 2023 kia sorento. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph or higher, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. the contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the brakes seized with an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was included in an undisclosed recall related to rotors, and the rotors were replaced under the recall. however, approximately 2 months after the repair, the failure reoccurred. the vehicle was returned to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the rotors had failed again and needed to be resurfaced. the dealer started to resurface the rotors, but the contact decided to stop the process. the contact researched and determined that rotors needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not yet repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

I was driving down the highway when the sunroof randomly exploded, there was no debris that hit the roof or damages to the roof prior.

On [xxx], the check engine light came on solid. my car is just 2 years old, only has 22k miles, and is currently under warranty, as it is a leased vehicle. according to auto zone, it was a "speed sensor". on 7/25/25, i was able to get an appointment with garvey kia of queensbury, ny and the fault code is the "input turbine shaft speed sensor b circuit range for performance". the service technician told me that it is not able to be accessed, as it is internal, and it is not serviceable. my safety and the safety of others were at risk because the car would go "limp" when accelerating, there was harsh and delayed shifting, erratic rpm readings, and no power when accelerating. this inability to accelerate causes problems in traffic and when trying to get through intersections or out of side streets when acceleration is imperative. yes, the car has been inspected by the kia dealership. this same exact thing happened on [xxx], in which destination kia of albany had by car for over 4 weeks to replace the transmission. at that time, the car had under 10k miles and was not even a year old. at that time, they put a refurbished transmission into the car. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Front panel of panoramic sunroof shattered while driving on interstate 90 at approx 65mpg. sunroof was fully closed. exploded on its own with no outside influence. conditions were clear and dry. sounded like a gun shot and glass was flying everywhere. fortunately shade was closed with no glass entering passenger compartment. could have resulted in injuries or accident if glass entered the driving inside area.

6/22/24-initial start of dashboard light "miscommunication"-codes could not be duplicated at evans kia dealership 7/11/24-miscommunication occurs again-codes pulled for diagnostics 7/22/24-car brought in for scheduled appointment to dealership to "fix" communication errors: i was told "there was an issue with the system not updating but i should be good to go now" 2/17/25-communication errors reappear on dash-car taken back to dealership; tech line case opened; dashboard cluster replaced; car given back to customer 3/20/25-lemon law case filed: determined past mileage window-given $3000 settlement for my trouble 6/23/25-miscommunication reappears on dash: car taken back to dealership; tech line case opened; replaced steering column assembly-car given back to customer customer files complaint with kia customer affairs 6/30/25-miscommunication reappears on dash: car taken back to dealership; numerous codes read from diagnostic-tech line case opened-front windshield camera is ready "overheating"-tech line advises for the the camera to be replaced; car not given back to customer and tech authorized to test drive 7/07/25-customer informed miscommunication reappeared on dash; tech line contacted and additional repairs pending their advice 7/15/25-field tech scheduled to come to evans kia dealership 7/24/25 "the safety of both myself and my children has been repeatedly compromised. no representative within kia's organization has been able to provide assurance that, when all dashboard warning lights illuminate, the vehicle will not experience a complete malfunction. as a result, i no longer feel safe operating the vehicle. in july 2025, i formally requested that kia corporate initiate a buyback of the vehicle, rather than returning it to me following another attempted repair."

Safety concern. vehicle suddenly could not maintain highway speed; vehicle unexpectedly decelerated. we were forced to pull over on the shoulder of the freeway. we called 911 and officers came. officer confirmed being stopped on the shoulder of a major freeway was a very dangerous situation. we had 3 adults and two sleeping children in the car. no warning signals in the vehicle prior to the incident.

The car is accelerating without anyone pressing down on the gas, not accelerating when our foot is on the gas, jerking unexplainably and the emergency brake warning is coming on when it has not been employed.

The car overheated while driving and my wife and daughter had to pull over to side of road. engine coolant was spilling everywhere. car was towed to raceway kia in freehold nj. the dealer advised my wife that the radiator needs to be replaced and it was not covered under warranty. they claim that debris from the road must have damaged the radiator and therefore it was "third party damage". i searched the web for incidents and found that this ios a design problem in the kia sorrento. their design causes the vulnerability to get damage to readaitor due to leaks. this should be recalled and redesigned before someone gets seriously injured as a result.

Even though the dealership reports that safety recall 23v610 / sc280 for the mounting clip replacement was completed on 2/16/24, my rearview camera has just fell out of its housing, hanging by its wires, with the mounting clips laying broken in my driveway. my rearview camera is currently unusable; its taped up so that it is not just swinging by the wires. when i contacted my dealership, they are pretty sure they can get this work covered under the warranty, but they are not sure. and my vin# is currently not pulling up any "active recalls". either the clips they used to replace the previous clips were also bad, or the dealership didnt actually complete the work as reported.

Vehicle suddenly loses power while driving. engine does not turn on, vehicle will run on battery until battery is dead, then putting the vehicle in park once stopped. vehicle will not accelerate normally since the engine does not turn on. only goes 10-20 mph. lights on the dash come on, prompting to keep car on to charge the battery. no code is found when the vehicle is scanned. dealerships can't seem to diagnose the issue. this is a safety concern when driving on busy roads or state highways at higher speeds.

Critical issue: gasoline leaks into engine. that causes increasing engine oil level significantly and mixed with engine oil. i dropped off me car (mileage: 11731) at kia pro in glendale, ca on 5/1/2025 as soon as i confirmed that engine oil level exceeds the maximum (twice of max) and smelled gasoline from the dipstick. the service advisor and a tech confirmed that the excessive engine oil level and gasoline smell. however, they refused to repair it under warranty because they don't see any physical leaks and error codes. in addition to that, they told me that the car is not good to drive as is because gasoline is mixed with engine oil. in my opinion, this can cause critical powertrain failures or possible life-threatening damages if that initiates fire from engine. car maintenance history: at 6312miles, 1 oil change change at kia in alhambra, ca i have attached the service receipt on 5/1 for your reference. that shows that the dealership confirmed the issue but they didn't try to resolve the issue.

We were involved in a t-bone type accident at highway speeds. i am filing a complaint because i feel kia of america did not pursue potential safety issues with the seatbelts. i called them to inform them of the issue to see if there was any other similar trending reports. they stated that they would send an inspector out which they never did. i believe that the seatbelt failed due to the nature of my injuries and discussion with medical experts. i was sitting behind driver. the accident resulted in a fractured sternum and rib injuries, injuries to both of my shins and injury to my coccyx. most significant is that there was no seatbelt bruising on my chest. all suggestive of hitting back of front seat.i have pix. also, upon attempting to exit the vehicle post impact, the seatbelt was fully extended, as i got tangled up in it trying to exit. also to note the driver’s seatbelt was fully extended also however they were protected by airbag deployment. the front and rear passenger seatbelts were not extended and those passengers had only minor injuries. my wife’s, the driver, injuries were much more serious and has resulted in permanent damage. i contacted kia of america to report the concern and they assured me they would send an engineer out to provide an inspection. they had multiple months to do this, and i followed up multiple times as to the status of this inspection. during that time the car switched insurance carriers hands however there was ample time to perform the inspection. after a couple months, i followed up again and they informed me that the car was destroyed. i informed them that was not satisfactory and please escalate this. they did and a gentleman called me and left a voicemail. i returned his call 4 times and left voicemails but again no follow up. i feel that this attention to a potentially significant safety issue has been neglected and i ask you to further investigate. i have emails and timelines of conversations documented. thank you.

All safety features disabled, srs light turns on, vehicle shuts off when driving, guage cluster is inop doesn’t show speed.

I was sold a new car with open recall. the recall was announced on september 21, 2022 and the vehicle was sold to me as new on october 12, 2022 without any disclosure regarding the recall. vehicle sold as new not used.

Was driving down road that was dry with sunshinning. vehicle traction control then came on breaks went to the floor and steering wheel started to jerk while the car was still going 55 mph

I purchased my kia sorrento several months ago and the windshield has chipped or cracked at least four times in that period when traveling at high speeds on the freeway. i contacted the kia dealership and kia customer service and they have not responded to my request for assistance.

I have only had the kia sorento for a few months and bought it brand new. while driving normally, one of the collision warning indicators came on while switching lanes and then nearly every alarm in the car cycled continuously. these audible and visual alarms were highly distracting to drive with and it is surprising the software allows this to happen and that there’s no sensor override or silencer button. even when the car is turned off and back on again the alarms continue. i took the car into the dealer and it sat there for two weeks waiting for kias central maintenance group to give them some guidance on what to do. they suspected a short somewhere and checked the main controller wires and one of the pins was a bit loose. after adjusting the pin they drove the car a few times and returned the car to me after it had been there for 3 weeks total. within two days of driving it the same alarms came back. i will be taking back to the dealer again, hopefully this problem is only on my vehicle, but these smart cars should really have a way for drivers to easily disable all the sensor based features in case this happens so at least the car can still be driven to get maintenance without increased risk of an accident. if i had been on a long road trip or in a rural area it could’ve been hours on the road driving with alarms blaring constantly and highly distracting.

This vehicle has four drive modes… when in eco mode and pulling onto a road with a steep grade the car lacks power to safely drive. this only happens in eco mode. i have tested 4 times and got the same result. the hesitation lasts for about 3 seconds with that gas pedal fully depressed the vehicle moves about 2 mph maybe slight faster but it’s noticeable. thank you.

I purchased my 2023 kia sorento hybrid on 11/20/22. on 1/12/23 is when the incident occurred, i had the vehicle for 53 days. 1/12/23 i was driving on the freeway going the speed limit with no one around me and my sunroof exploded. initially i thought that it was a gunshot and someone was shooting at me. i sped up and then thought i had a flat tire. after pulling over, i realized it was in fact my sunroof which randomly exploded. luckily i had the shade up, so the glass didn't fall into the vehicle. this could've caused a horrible accident if any cars were around me, or if i wasn't able to stay calm. it sounded like a shotgun went off in my ear. i have a 2 year old and a 4 month old and i'm just thankful that they weren't in the car when this happened. there were no warning signs of the glass cracking, nothing hit the vehicle prior, this was a brand new vehicle off the lot 53 days prior. i contacted the dealership immediately and said this needed to be fixed. they took the vehicle back and made a claim with kia which is currently active from 1/13/23 and is active as of 4/5/23. i picked up the vehicle on 3/30/23 and gave kia and the dealership a chance to make it right. the car had glass shards still in the top from the original breakage. when i pushed the sunroof back the first two times i could hear glass shards pushing in the tracks and forcing it back into position. i returned the vehicle to the dealership on 4/3/23 and they're "working on fixing it". i do not feel safe myself driving in the vehicle nor having my children travel in the vehicle. i've let it be known i do not want the car back and i want out of the loan. i had the car for a total of 53 days and it's been in the shop 75+days now. reporting this as i feel like this was a total safety issue and i hope no other individuals have to go through this same process with the dealership and kia. first 3 photos are after the incident. next 2 photos are proof of glass still in sunroof after repair

Car parked automatically while in drive. won't allow car to shift to drive or reverse due to "driving conditions not met". hybrid system light also randomly comes on.

The contact owns a 2023 kia sorento. the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated with the transmission error warning light illuminated. the contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the roadway. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 12,000. the vin was not available.

On 6/6/2023, the sunroof shattered while driving. no rock/debris collided at this time with the sunroof and i believe this is a security malfunction due to the glass overheating. this incident isn't the result of mishandling on our (the consumer's) behalf. the car dealership (vanguard kia of arlington) has denied responsibility in the defect of this car part. as such, i'm filing on for our situation and warning of others who are at risk. additionally, no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem were present prior to the failure.

My passenger interior dash and glove box trim are melted. i’ve had it checked out by kia, however they do not see where an origin could have come from. the day i noticed it, my vehicle had been hit on the front right passenger fender. the melting looked to be electrical or caused by a combustion of sort but we also believe it could have been caused by reflection off of the interior of my vehicle to that spot. i live in michigan, the temperature was above 80*.

Sunroof on the vehicle blew out out of nowhere. no prior cracks or damage.

The contact owns a 2023 kia sorento. the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes spontaneously engaged. the brake warning light was illuminated. the contact stated there was no other vehicles nearby when the failure occurred on several occasions. additionally, the sunroof was deactivated due to the software being disconnected spontaneously. the vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and informed the contact that the manufacturer needed to be contacted to check the logs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

Yesterday i was driving and i heard an explosion above my head. i smelled smoke and heard glass rattling. i was shocked but held it together to cross 3 lanes of traffic on the freeway and safely get onto the break down area. i got out of the car, went to the passenger side and looked on top of the car. the glass on the sunroof was exploded upward and metal was sticking upward as well. i took pictures and then got into my car, got back on the freeway until the next exit where i exited the freeway and made my way to the dealership where i had purchased the vehicle in 5/2023. i got there as service department was opening, i took more pictures as the lighting was different. the took my car, said i would hear something back in the next 1-3 days. they said they had to file paperwork with kia usa to get approval to make repairs as well as to reimburse a rental car. the service person told me that this was second time he had seen this occur in the 2 years he had worked with courtesy kia. the other time it was a telluride versus a sorrento phev like mine.

I just purchased my car four days ago as i was driving on expressway. i got an error that there’s an issue with my engine and cooling system. and the engine light has came on. this car was purchased brand new from a kia dealership in dearborn michigan.

Driving my vehicle my sunroof glass shatter, now it has a big hole in the middle. the car is at kia in laurel maryland.

My blind spot and forward collision warnings kept going off with any vehicles in front me or in my blind spot. i was on the road by myself and they constantly would go off over and over and nothing covering the sensors.

I was driving down the highway on cruise control going 67 on a 65. the car started revving up and then proceeded to go faster. i turned off the cruise control but its continued to speed up. i stomped on the brake 4 or 5 times with no effect. i rammed into the back of a bus at 110 mph.

We were driving on the highway at about 65 mph. without warning, the vehicle suddenly started to struggle and slowed to about 40 mph. we were able to safely pull over, but we were in an acceleration lane merging onto another highway and didn't feel safe due to the sudden deceleration. this is a plug-in hybrid. we have driven at 65+ mph on long rides before, and this was the first time that we noticed that the battery had completely drained. we expect that when the battery is drained that the car would function like a normal hybrid and continue to function in a safe manner. the car's cluster displayed a message along the lines of "maintaining hybrid mode," although it isn't clear if the speed-limiting behavior was an expected consequence of that. after being pulled over for a bit, the battery level recuperated enough that we attempted to resume driving on side roads. battery level varied from red to blue (normal) and then back to red, but thankfully the battery didn't fully deplete again and we were able to return home safely. we're waiting on an appointment with a dealership to have the car checked out. it was last serviced 3 days prior to the incident (first oil change, filters changed, etc).

I was cleaning my kia and i was wiping the back-up camera, the camera housing clip broke and i didnt even put any pressure.

There are two user profiles on the main infotainment system for this vehicle and there are two seat position memory buttons on the door. i am the main driver of the vehicle and have input my seat position into seat memory button #1 on my door making sure my profile on the infotainment is up and the position is confirmed. the system will randomly delete my position and the seat will move to what appears to be the factory setting. i am 5’ 2” so the seat moves lower and so far back i cannot reach the gas nor break pedals. as this has happened what seems like at least 100 times, i mention the problem to the dealer in early august 2023, they had not heard of a similar problem and they ran a diagnostic and all was fine. on saturday, sept 9, 2023, i was in the driver seat and put the vehicle into drive. a few seconds later my husband changed the infotainment system from his profile to my profile and the seat went to the factory setting while the vehicle was in drive and i could not reach the gas nor the break pedals. luckily i had not pressed the gas yet and we were on a flat side street and the vehicle did not move but we were in a residential neighborhood. the second problem has happened around five times with the latest incident on friday, september 8th. i was on the interstate traveling at 75 mph with light traffic i came up on a few vehicles and noticed the blindspot detectors on both sides of the vehicle did not work while passing the other vehicles. i have also had this happen in heavy traffic with speeds in the 30-50 mph range.

Transmission problem arised on/about 9/15/23 and 3,000 miles. there is a distinct shudder when shifting through lower gears, more recently, on/around 4,000 miles l, shudder is growing worse, and there is intermittent problems at highway speeds. this is very dangerous, and could cause an accident/injury at any time. i have been to my local kia dealership 3 times now, who have flight recorded and concurred with me that its the transmission failing, but have been sent home every time with "we don't know exactly what it is, so keep driving it". these symptoms are very similar to the 2021 model years dct transmission recall problems. i know of others with this same problem, and kia needs to be held liable asap.

Dear nhtsa, i am writing to report a serious safety issue with my 2023 kia sorento, purchased in february 2023 from ken garff kia avondale. in july 2023, i began experiencing alarming issues, including flashing lights, dashboard error messages, and malfunctions, despite the vehicle being unused for several days with no visible damage. the air conditioning system malfunctioned, blowing hot air even when turned off. upon inspection at the dealership, i was told the front sensor was damaged, with a repair estimate of $1700. however, no visible damage was evident, and i believe this issue should be warranty-covered due to its electronic nature. the dealership noted that 35 others faced similar problems, raising concerns of a manufacturing issue. despite persistent efforts and a replacement part installed nearly two weeks later, the problem persists. i've incurred nearly $500 in rental car expenses, as the situation remains unresolved, even with involvement from kia corporate engineers. my aim in reporting this issue is to ensure consumer safety and seek a prompt resolution, as i continue to make $1k monthly payments for an unused sorento. i respectfully request your assistance and prompt investigation into this matter. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While driving on oregon i-205 south bound received a refill inverter coolant warning. i was on my way to the dealer for other issues and decided to let the dealer fix it. about five miles down the freeway i began to lose power. i was in the center lane and had to move over two lanes of traffic while losing more power. luckily i made it across with the help of a few understanding drivers and many horn honkers so there was no accident. i turned off the engine and called kia roadside assistance. after about 15 minutes i was connected to a kia assistant who after a few minutes asked if the engine would start and it did. i was then directed to try to make it to the nearest kia dealer which was about 8 miles away. the car went the first seven miles with no problem but then i started to lose power again. i was doing five miles an hour tops when i pulled into weston kia in gresham, ore. i left my car at the dealer. i was called the next day to tell me that a small piece of metal (road debris) had flown through the air intake space below the grill and hit the invertor radiator and that the invertor radiator reservoir was empty causing the car to lose power to save the engine. luckily they had an invertor radiator in stock and i got my car back six days later. it was not covered by warranty because it was not a manufactures defect. the cost to repair was almost $1100. i question this. i googled this problem and found out that i am not the first person to have this exact problem happen to. if the air intake to the invertor radiator had some protection (1/4 inch mesh) or the invertor radiator were behind the grill this would not of happened. this, in my opinion, is extremely dangerous and would have very easy fix. i asked to keep the old radiator and i have documentation from weston kia covering the repair.

1. i have been complaining about the vehicle turning off by itself. no one is listening to me or telling me what is causing the problem. i have numerous witnesses when the car turns off by itself. it isn’t safe. it could cause a deadly accident. no it’s not the auto shut off either. i have to put the car in park and hope it restarts each time. 2. when auto shut off is in use the vehicle stalls leading it to act like it’s trying to get fuel to move and turns off. i’ve come too close to having accidents. i never know when it will do it. sometimes i don’t drive it because i don’t want to be held liable for causing an accident and harming somebody's life. 3. i had been complaining to them that i smelled something burning but i couldn’t identify it. i asked them to keep my car and check it out and they refused. while driving in the hottest summer the ac goes out. i immediately took it to the dealership. the worker said we can’t fix it. it'll be a week before they will take my vehicle. the lady was rude and said go to another dealership. it was too hot not to have ac then on top of that it rained the rest of the week and i wasn’t able to work because i couldn’t defog my windows to drive. it finally stopped raining and i was able to get another dealership to check it out and they told me something had burned up that makes the ac work ( i have the paperwork). if they would have checked the car like i asked when i first started complaining about smelling the burning smell this could have been avoided. also, i don’t get notifications about recalls via mail, phone, call, email etc.

I was driving my 2023 kia sorento on the i-5 freeway going about 70 mph when the front-half of the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered and dropped glass into the cabin of the car. there was no debris, falling objects, or any other event to cause the glass the break. we were at a wide open area of the freeway with no overpasses and not much traffic around us. it had been almost freezing in the morning, but a very sunny day. we were traveling at about 4:30 pm pacific time on oct. 28.

Vehicle loses power from combustion engine and drives only on electric battery. hybrid system doesn’t engage correctly and vehicle will accelerate extremely slowly after a delay and will only achieve roughly 30 mph with accelerator fully pressed. this vehicle has been sent to the dealer multiple times and they have recreated the problem. however even after parts being replaced and connections being replaced the problem persists. vehicle can be inspected anytime. my family has been in several near collisions with oncoming traffic due to the vehicle moving after a delay and then at a much slower than expected pace. pulling out in to traffic is nearly impossible when the vehicle malfunctions. it has also depleted the entire battery and left us motionless on the side of the road multiple times. due to the problem being intermittent and not reliably duplicated a service technician was given permission to use the vehicle to commute to and from work for a time. this allowed him to experience the issue in person. the vehicle has been inspected multiple times by the dealers service department and they have been working with engineers from the manufacturer. when this problem occurs there typically is not a warning light or a code stored. they believe it is a faulty connection. this issue will cause an accident in the future if not resolved. the manufacturer has not been able to determine what is causing the issue. they also have not been concerned with our safety and have released the vehicle back to us 3 times stating that it is fixed yet the problem persists.

Made several attempts to fix squeaking and rattling in steering column when lane keep assist is engaged. dealership vehicle was purchased from notified me " we cannot replicate the problem", after driving my vehicle 59 miles. i sent multiple of the issue via email and text message. finally, the service manager agreed to let her shop foreman do a ride along. at this time, demontrond kia acknowledged there was an issue. demontrond kia diagnosis was " found vapor lines vibrating on brake lines causing the noise from steering wheel." kia technicians re-routed vapor lines from brake line and test drove the vehicle another 89 miles. two days later the same exact issue was still present. at this time, the service manager has yet to respond back to me. i sent a request for an appointment to take care of the reverse camera recall through the kia access app twice after emailing the service manager. i still have not heard a response.

Headlights will often turn on when unnecessary in auto mode, for example when the sun is shining but there is no sun directly on the sensor, the headlights will turn on, when driving for example in a shady area with trees, the headlights could end up turning off and on very quickly, making it look like your trying to get someone’s attention, also when driving on the highway and going under a overpass, they turn on for a brief second until you clear it, so it looks like you are flashing your headlights, i think it’s very unsafe

There is a loud squeaking sound that sounds like a rodent or bird that occurs intermittently at cold temperatures from the steering column. it has been mentioned in several forums and facebook communities. some dealers are aware, others are not. the repair requires a steering column replacement according to those who have had service completed. dealers are requiring they directly hear the issue despite recorded video proof. i have a copy of my issue in hand.

While driving there is a loud squeak that is coming from the steering column on the left side. the dealerships cannot reperform because it only happens about 60% of the time when driving. we have brought the vehicle in twice now and both times the dealership could not recreate the noise. many people are having the same issue with the 2022 and 2023 kia models. they have speculated on what is causing the sound. one individual that was able to get their dealership to work on it said their dealership had to replace the "power pack" which is a steering column control module. another individual said that their dealership had to emergency order a new steering column to replace it. each of these makes me believe that there is an issue that kia is not addressing that is putting the lives of drivers at risk. if the steering control module goes out while driving it could cause the driver to be unable to turn normally and cause an accident, or if something breaks within the steering column that restricts the movement of the steering wheel an individual could go off the road or hit someone. steering issues are extremely dangerous to the driver and the general public, so i am hopeful that this will help get the ball moving on finding out what is going on with these steering columns before a serious accident occurs. thank you.

Transmission oil light came on and the vehicle lost power. it was determined that the transmission was faulty with only 3800 miles.

My vehicle died inthe middle of an extremely busy four lane road. a light came on that said to turn the car off immediately. the engine light and battery light flashed on. it sounds like the engine recall for the 22 and 21 hybrid sorento’s. i had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership, it is only 7 mos old.

At times vehicle hesitates or doesn't responses when accelerator is pushed. has occurred several times when moving into traffic from a yield lane or stop. fortunately it hasn't lead to an accident but was very scary. researching this problem on-line, this has been reported by many sorento owners. this is an intermittent problem and when vehicle is taken to the dealer they report they can not duplicate problem so nothing is done. by the shear numbers of owners reporting the same issue, something needs to be corrected.

2023 kia sorrento - the engine turned off while driving, leaving me stranded in the middle of a busy road in the first six months of ownership. the vehicle was towed, and the dealer was unable to reproduce it. on 01/12/24, the car leaked all the contents of the coolant system onto my driveway. the vehicle was towed, and the dealer later stated the radiator adapter had a small pebble that appeared to have bent some of the fins. the dealer said it was "external forces," and they are not assuming liability. i firmly believe it was a failure of the radiator adapter and not a tiny pebble that caused the entire system to fail. i write this hoping that if other issues are reported with this vehicle's radiator, it will become a known issue to assist other customers and potentially keep people safe on the roadways. i complained to kia america, who assumed no liability and stated it was not their problem, although they never requested photographs or the affected part. i am very saddened by the response from the dealer and kia america during this incident.

Issue occurred and came to like during the past winter snow storm. the hood of the suv does not allow and blocks the wiper blade arm from being lifted in order to clean ice off the wiper blade nor can the wiper arm be lifted to clear ice and snow under the wiper arm to allow proper operation. this design flaw does not allow safe and clear sight function of the windshield wipers.

On [xxx] while driving and in the process of changing lanes, as i accelerated on the brakes, my vehicle gave a sudden jerk, at first i figured it was due to the road being wet, but on [xxx] while driving to nyc on [xxx] as we all know we all have to keep up the speed, once again during accelerating my vehicle repeated the same sudden jerk and continue for most of my ride, i brought into kia on [xxx] with the end result being they did not find this issue, as well as my ongoing issue of my engine light that has been coming on and off for about 5 months now. i do believe my vehicle is having some kind of issue with the transmission and gears are not kicking in during the acceleration process may i add this is on the highway. my vehicle is a 2023 which i purchased in aug of 2023 and have been in the dealership for shaking during braking engine light on and now gear delay with no resolution to all issues, i will be contacting the manufactured as my next step in the horrible processes. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Purchased brand new 2023 sorento on 12/30/23. on jan 14th, with less than 300 miles on it, had 1st incident. all lights on dash came on said engine control system, lost all ability to accelerate. had to get out of traffic, as safely as i could. turned car off and waited 5 min. turn car back on, check engine light stayed on but could give gas. took to dealership and a code was stored in history, engine control module. 3 days later took it back to get fixed and they could reproduce problem or get any code. put flight recorder on, drove it for 11 miles, nothing. said they can't fix without a code. on feb 17th, with 1500 miles, same situation. all lights on dash, cannot give any gas. extremely dangerous in traffic. got off road and on display it said it performed 7 checks. all showing good except engine management system. shows condition with engine control system and take to dealership immediately. it was a saturday, service was closed. check engine light stayed on saturday and all day sunday. monday, check engine off. took to dealership, no code found. this is a brand new car and has has same problem twice now. they are saying they need a code to fix. so now i'm driving a ticking time bomb, a death trap. scared to drive on interstate or anywhere with heavy traffic. when you loose ability to control cars speed, that's extremely dangerous. i dropped car off at kia and will not pickup until they can tell me what's going on with my brand new car. why kia put a safety feature that "limp mode" stops the car from accelerating is beyond me. this is so scary and disappointing.

On 3 different occasion when parking in my driveway (on a hill) my car rolled while in park. on the first occasion i almost ran over my wife who was taking our young daughter out of her car seat. fortunately i was still in the drivers seat and able to press my foot on the brake. on the next two occasions there was nobody around and the car rolled into the street. i have contacted kia repeatedly to fix this issue and they have done nothing. the dealership says there is nothing wrong and is now refusing to answer calls from myself and kia. kia is saying it's up to the dealership to fix. this is incredibly dangerous for people who are not aware there is an issue. the dealer accused me of not activating the parking brake. as i explained to them the car would have rolled me over before i could walk away - so that is impossible. i can't replicate this every time. i have been able to replicate it one other time but did not get it on video. this makes the situation that much more dangerous especially with little kids. i now park every time with my emergency brake engaged.

I was driving down the highway when my vehicle shut off with no warning and the parking break engaged. i was stuck in the travel lane with cars flying by me going 50 plus mph. my vehicle has 7000 miles on it. according to kia the hybrid battery failed and they don’t know why. kia has been no help and as far as i know they are not looking into this issue. upon further research there has been multiple instances where this hybrid model has just shut down while the vehicle is moving and kia has been unable to resolve the issue. myself and my children could have been severely injured or killed. they need to get to the bottom of what is causing these hybrid batteries to fail on brand new vehicles.

Engine light came on and i don’t have 30,000 miles on my car. the service tech informed me that they’ve seen this and kia had not issued a recall

As i was driving the car it suddenly lost power… then all warning and sensor lights came on in the dash. i pulled the car over and restarted and the engine turned on but would not engage to drive. it was stuck. multiple engine and transmission warning codes appeared on my kia app for the car. kia’s response to resolve has been non existent. i am fearful for my safety if this happens again. it’s the second time.

The forward collision warning system and emergency braking were engaged when no forward object was present. amount of times 2 driver side rear quarter panel falsely detected a car swerving into my lane and engaged an emergency maneuver to avoid collision even though there was no car there. amount of times 1

I bought a 2023 kia sorento sx with 11 miles on the vehicle in june of 2023, on 7/17/23, within a month and a half of driving it, it would lose all power and would not respond to excelleration, whereby coasting to the side of the road. all warning lights would come on, 3 codes popped up, one of which is the malfunction of the engine. i would turn it off and back on to reset the computer and it would drive. i took it to my local kia service department and they cleared off the codes and couldn't recreate or duplicate the problem. on 8/23/23 i experienced the exact same experience the same scenario, but this time i could barely pull over it had loss of power and i was about to drive through an intersection. took it back to service they performed a complete check without success they kept it for 2 weeks to try and duplicate the problem, wasn't fixed. the 3rd time on 5/06/24, same problem, they still don't know what causes the car to lose power. i am concerned that the car will cause a fatality to myself, my family, or to another motorist. this car is not safe to drive because the computer systems shut down while driving and it is sporadic and unnerving when it happens.

Current mileage 6,776 miles -purchased the vehicle and on two occasions the aeb emergency brake system came on twice without any cars around- also, twice the engine shutdown light came on and acceleration has stopped on me and the vehicle stalled, which is dangerous if im on the parkway or road where i cant pull over like a bridge. nice looking car but dont be fooled- a recall needs to be sent to protect others from a crash immediately.

While driving on 3 separate occasions the aeb engaged causing vehicle to stop completely in the middle of the roadway with nobody in front or on the side and im not too sure if anyone was behind. vehicle was going 50mph on two occasions and 35mph on the third occasion. took to dealership was told there is nothing they could do about it unless the vehicle is giving off code(s). called the dealership again when incident occurred told me the same thing, finally when the third time it happened i contacted kia corporate made a case and now waiting for a call back. very concerning safety issue that needs to be recalled

I was driving home from work when i felt my car was in a limp like a previous problem i had except this time i had a check engine light come on. i was almost home and i had a check hybrid system pop up on my dash and the car basically stopped driving. luckily i was on a side street. i had a p0171 code on both of my issues . i had it fixed about a month and half ago the first time but couldn't say what caused the issue.

The wheels provided with the new vehicle are not the correct wheels for the car. on page 639 of the owners manual: "2023 sorento phev om 10.pdf" section 9 "specifications, consumer information and reporting safety defects", page 6. the paragraph with title tires and wheels, has two tables; "for hybrid vehicle" and "for plug-in hybrid vehicle". the new vehicle was delivered with tires: p235 55r19 101h (listed in the table for hybrid vehicle) the manufacturer specifies p235/55r19 105v for the phev. on this same page there is a caution paragraph: "when replacing tires, use the same size originally supplied with the vehicle. using tires of a different size can damage the related parts of make it work irregullarly." i asked the dealer, grand kia of thornton colorado, about this. they said that these are the correct tires. i talked to the salesman, who said he called several dealers who agree that the hybrid tires are the same for the phev. i opened a case with kia care (case # xxx) who sent me to the dealer to inspect and document the tires. peak kia of colorado springs points to a section of the manual "tires and wheels"; where there is an example of how to read a tire, using p235/55r19 101h as the example. they said this is the evidence that i have the correct tire! kia said the dealer determines if action is required. the dealer ignores the "specifications" part of the owners manual, which i referred and sent copies to them. i am concerned that the vehicle may have adverse results from the lower load rating and speed rating, which could be a danger to occupants and other cars, in an emergency maneuver or when fully loaded. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

This is the third time my car has had code p0171 and p0191 pop into the system of the car. i just picked up my car on [xxx] and after i left the parking lot it didn't feel right. i had to press the gas pedal a lot harder to get it to move. this is after they replaced the high pressure fuel pump twice within a week and i believe under 200 miles of driving the car. luckily florida is a pretty flat state so the hill i have between my work and home isn't very steep but i go from 40 mphs down to 30 once i reach the top of it. i'm supposed to be going from florida to north carolina and i don't know how it's supposed to climb the mountains. the first time my car had this problem was [xxx] the second time [xxx] and the third time was [xxx] and the last issue was [xxx]. the first 3 times it went into limp mode where it won't run the components completely. the last time i had to press the gas pedal all the way so i wouldn't be hit by other vehicles. i only had warning lights the one time but error codes on 3 of the 4 times with last time barely leaving the dealership so i wasn't able to check. it's a safety issue when you have to pray that it gets enough to merge into traffic or to stay ahead of cars where it cause cars to slow down or possibly hit me if they think i would be going faster. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

This is the second report i am making. as in my last report this involves the driver’s seat and changing profiles on the infotainment system. - the driver’s seat/profile will keep my settings for a few weeks or months and then it randomly forgets and resets to the factory settings. - on june 18, 2024 the infotainment profile was set for my husband. i switched to my profile and was backing out of my garage and the seat switched to factory settings while the car was actively in reverse. i am short and could not reach the break or gas pedal! - the dealer has not had any other complaints like this.

On the morning of july 14, 2024 i noticed a crack on the driver side on the window. the crack appeared on the bottom of the window and travel upwards where it ended. this morning july 15, 2024, the crack spread across towards the passenger side of the vehicle. nothing hit the window for it to develop a crack as my car was parked in the driveway and there were no markings on the window. i do put on the window sun visor to keep the excessive heat out of the car.

The blind spot assist warning came on, with no other cars around, and then the engine seized. this sorento is a 2023 and only had 29000 miles. the engine is now destroyed and kia is not upholding the warranty.

Twice while driving on the highway the engine power went off and all the safety lights flash and i could not accelerate. i was able to pull over in neutral and restart the engine. when taken in for inspection, no problems were found. it happened again in june after the 7500 mile inspection on may 9th. this issue is life threatening as it could easily cause a fatal crash if i was not in the right lane, on flat ground, with a shoulder. there was no warning light.

This was an alarming situation. i was taking my wife for a cancer treatment in our 2023 kia sorrento with 2600 miles on it. the instrument panel showed a a with a circle around it, blinking continuously. i was going up a grade in a town and the car would not accelerate. all of a sudden the engine surged the brakes would not stop the car, i put it into neutral and went into a parking lot. if there would have ben a car in front of me or no place to pull over there would have been a serious accident. i called the kia dealership and took it in for a diagnostic test. nothing wrong with car was their answer. in the mean time i am afraid to drive the car. i am [xxx] and reflexes are not as good as they were [xxx] . information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The vehicle was purchased new. from day one, there were issues. when it was delivered from the factory, it was discovered to be partly unpainted. this raised quality concerns. so far, the most serious has been that the motor blower failed at approximately 29,700 miles. this resulted in the vehicle filling with noxious fumes. it then had to be abandoned on the side of the highway. this led to a fire dispatch and later urgent care visits. prior to towing, it was discovered that the ac was not working and the engine coolant reservoir was at ~ 1/4 of the minimum line. ultimately, the vehicle was towed to king kia. they held the vehicle for 2 weeks. they drove the vehicle 16 miles. however, they did not diagnose the problem. the only action that they took was to refill the engine coolant reservoir. prior to pick-up, we notified the kia customer service escalation case manager in writing that the vehicle had not been fixed and continued to represent a safety risk to our family. they took no further action. after pick-up, the vehicle was driven approximately 35 miles before the smoke started to fill the engine cabin. it was taken to two independent mechanics along the side of the highway. one was vienna auto care and the other was jiffy lube auto care. both identified that the motor blower resistor had likely failed. the jlac manager also identified white material on the engine manifold believed to be engine coolant. all was documented in writing. the vehicle was towed back to king kia. prior to towing, the jlac manager told us that melted motor blower casing was highly toxic. (later, the kia case manager informed us that he would admit that our family was put at risk by being told to pick-up the unfixed vehicle.) he also told us that if the motor blower failed then it likely was not an isolated case. this time, the motor blower failure was reproduced. however, the engine coolant issue has yet to be resolved. we are now being instructed to pick-up the car again.

When attempting to start the car, the engine will not start and every alert system and dashboard light turns on. the car is undriveable when it does this. it takes 5-10 minutes of turning the car on and off before it stops and is drivable again. it does not happen every time and seems to be random. this has happened 5 times. an additional 6th time this same issue happened while i was driving - all of the dashboard lights went on, and every alert / warning turned on (forward collision, lane warning, etc). the steering wheel also became stiff and extremely difficult to turn. i have been attempting to work with 2 different kia service departments and their corporate escalations department without luck. they are unable to replicate the issue and are planning to give the car back to us. after seeing so many similar or same issues reported on various forums i am filing a nhtsa claim. I had just entered the highway and reached highway speed of 70 mph. without any warning, the engine died, all of the dashboard lights came on, and i was unable to accelerate. thankfully i was in the right-hand lane and there was an exit ramp a short distance ahead. the car decelerated as it had no power, and cars behind me were honking. i was able to exit the highway and coast into a parking lot just off the frontage road. had i not been able to get off the highway, the vehicle would have been stalled in fast-moving traffic, and a pile-up could have easily occurred. i turned the car off using the push button start/stop, waited several minutes, and restarted the car. the check engine light was on and the car diagnostics system reported an issue with the "engine management system." upon clicking the details link, the diagnostics system further stated "a possible condition with your engine control system has been detected. a full system check is recommended to be done soon. please contact your local dealership to schedule an appointment." i took the car to a local kia dealership, and they stated they could not recreate the problem. they reported they "inspected the vehicle for dtc's and found code po65312 in history." they cleared the code and reported, in writing, that "no issues found during test drive, vehicle currently operating properly, no further action taken" and gave the car back to me without fixing anything. they stated it may need to be diagnosed for longer ext diag time. the vehicle is available for inspection, and i would appreciate any help i can get as i got no help at the dealership.

Car is a huge safety issue. seems to be dct transmission issue. car gets stuck in first or second gear and revs all the way up. happened multiple times getting on highway or at intersections. this has almost caused multiple accidents for me. you can push the pedal to the floor and it won’t do anything. the only temp fix is turning car off and back on.

Mounting bracket for the backup camera failed and caused the camera to dangle from the car. this caused me to not be able to use the camera to view objects and surroundings directly behind the vehicle. a dealer said they fixed the part back when it was originally recalled, but the new bracket broke and the dealer is refusing to fix the issue. they said the initial recall was completed and the part is now out of warranty and therefore they will not fix it, even though the exact part that was recalled originally has now failed again.

Sunroof randomly exploded driving down the road.

While driving vehicle looses throttle power, goes into limb mode. does not throw any codes. turn the car off then back on and drives fine for a little bit. has happened numerous times. multiple trips to the dealership but since no codes pop up nothing can be fixed. major safety issue!!!!

Transmission warning indicator appears on dashboard cluster and vehicle bucks and stalls and won't shift properly. dealership found transmission was never filled properly and below specifications according to kia service and was verified the fluid level was extremely low and not filled to specification from factory. the dealership filled transmission to proper level and test drove vehicle. issue seamed to be fixed. but now a month later same transmission is is happening with transmission warning indicator and vehicle bucking and not shifting properly causing erratic vehicle behavior and safety issues.

While slowing from cruising speed to around 5 mph, give or take, and pressing on the accelerator, the vehicle will not respond/accelerate for up to 1 second. this is dangerous because you don't know when the vehicle will respond and if you'll have the acceleration. my assumption is this is a symptom of the hybrid system trying to determine the best mode of propulsion - gas, electric only or a combination of both. we've taken it to the dealer and we were told "this is how hybrid systems work." we've owned toyota hybrid systems and we know this is not normal. kia/hyundai should reprogram the hybrid system to that it responds with no delay, even if it means the fuel milage suffers as a result.

Faulty oil filter placed in vehicle during oil change at dealership. on november 4, 2023 vehicle was taken into rick case kia located at 3190 satellite blvd, duluth, ga 30096. the oil was changed and vehicle driven approximately 5 miles home that afternoon, the following morning the vehicle was driven approximately 25 miles to cobb hospital. at no time during the ride did i note warning signals that something was wrong. at lunch i went to my car and started the vehicle and it alarmed with engine and oil lights. the vehicle was making a knocking noise. they added oil back to the engine and stated it was ok to drive. the manager of the dealership stated that this has happened several times.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? i was driving and the car completely shut down- i could not use my brakes or accelerate. i had to pull along the road in ongoing traffic to coast to a stop. i lost all control. how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? i was in traffic and the cars behind me had to slow down immediately, i could not speed up or even brake to come to a stop. others around me as well as myself were in danger. has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? they reviewed and said they scanned it and did a drive test and could not find the cause. has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, it was seen at the kia dealer i bought it from. were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? as soon as the vehicle lost power there was a warning sign on the dash that showed "limit" with a half circle emblem.

When i start driving, there’s a lot of hesitation like it’s going to stall and it also does this going up hills or mountains? i was on the interstate and there was a line of cars behind me and my car started to hesitate and almost stall, causing all cars behind me to break to not cause a domino effect accident i have reported this to the kia dealer and knowing that there’s a lot of dct problems that are posted all over the internet they are saying there is no problem with the car upon doing research again there is a lot of dct reporting of kia’s not just my sorrento please do some research on this and help me. we just bought this car. there is 13,000 miles on it. it should not be doing this and again i’m going to a different kia to see if they say the same thing. below you ask for a date that this happened there is too many dates to enter, but i will try to enter the very first one that we experienced.

1. first incident occurred on 10/29/24. my wife pulled into driveway and placed car into park. when she shifted to reverse, the transmission didn't respond and the car revved to a very high rpm when she took foot off of brake, no foot on gas. unable to shift it to go forward or backward. she then turned car off, back on, and was able to reverse it. this situation occurred numerous times. 2. sometimes, after this happened, she'd place it into drive, and the vehicle would only crawl (<5 mph) forward and not accelerate, though gas pedal was touching the floor of car. she'd place it back into park (in traffic!), shut it off, then restart it. 3. sometimes she would place it into reverse, the dashboard would show it in r, and the vehicle would be silent and non-reactive (no back-up beep). 4. she would place it into drive, the engine would do nothing for a few seconds, and suddenly drop into gear with a loud thud. 11/11/24 took car to kia, they said nothing was wrong. 5. on 11/29/24, she placed the car into park, loaded passengers, and tried to place the car into reverse and nothing happened. the vehicle would not move forward or backward. the dashboard indicated that it was in d, the gear shift dial indicated it was in d, but nothing happened. car was then turned off in drive. drive indicator ("d") was lit up on dash, gear shift dial had "d" still illuminated too. tried to restart, dash said to put car into park to start. car would not go into park. when flatbed tow truck arrived (6 hours later) the battery was fully discharged the tow truck driver was able to charge the battery with a portable charger sufficiently to start the car (if it would have been in park), but was still unable to get the transmission to respond. the dealership claims that they can find nothing wrong and kia won't acknowledge any issue. we have multiple videos of the issues and witnesses. there are numerous reports on reddit of similar issues with kia 2023 sorento phevs.

When trying to accelerate from a standing stop, there is a one or two second delay, once the accelerator pedal is depressed, before the car moves. extremely dangerous when pulling out into traffic. i had it back to the dealership to address this problem but they found nothing wrong. i guarantee you , the problem continues to exist.

Engine consuming excessive oil between oil changes.

While i am driving and try to give the car gas to speed up quickly it loses all power and won’t go faster, to speed up i would have to slow down and slowly gain up to the desired speed. it gave me a warning message that i need to park and charge the battery. i don’t have a spot to charge the battery.

Was driving up a hill when the 'auto-off' light started flashing on the driver display. car would not accelerate above 20mph. at the top of the hill, i switched gears to neutral and the car began operating as expected; however, the same behavior occurred again at the next hill. pulled over and restarted the car. car worked as expected after restart. this is dangerous. i was taking my daughter to school in morning rush hour traffic. we live in a very hilly area and i'm terrified to drive the car. i dropped it off at the dealership almost 2 weeks ago and they have yet to identify the issue. i do see similar complaints on this site so i'm hoping that you are investigating.

The usb ports disconnect intermittently cause maps and phone calls to disconnect temporarily. sometimes not connecting again until i turn off and on the car.

Vehicles instrument cluster goes black at times ( speedometer, tach and all exterior lights and turn signals are inoperative during this time) i took it to the dealership and they said they couldn’t duplicate the problem
