2020 SUBARU Forester

Windshield was crack after sitting outside in a secure parking lot for a about 6 hours . There was no visible cracks or chips prior to this . The crack is a out 8 inches long and statrs on lower drivers side . The original windshield was replace about at the dealership about 4 month ago after After the original windsheil was hit with road debris there was a small chip that crew into a large crack that went across almost the entire lenght of windsheild in a matter of hours.

I was on cruise control, and it randomly decided to go 81 mph instead of 50 mph i set it to, it did not respond when i tried to turn off the cruise control, and i ended up crashing into a semi, i survived but my [xxx] daughter died. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Vehicle was stationary. foot on brake in parking spot. then vehicle accelerated on its own.

Windshield developed a crack. no known even such as a debris strike was occurred. crack was first noticed when the car was parked.

I bought this car 2 weeks ago with 1,950 miles and my windshield cracked with no reason. i don't know why or how that happened. i am afraid to drive the car first because i have a broken windshield and second because obviously that windshield is weak or lacking of safety.

2/17/2021 - honda accord going north on lynchburg turnpike ran a stoplight (going about 30 in a 25 mpg zone) trying to turn west onto east main st. in salem, va ... bounced opposite curb, cut west and swerved (oversteer) and came head on into my stationary 2020 forester. our light had just turned green and we were about to move forward when the honda came out into the intersection. my wife was driving and i was a passenger. i was taken to er and seen by several doctors and am undergoing pt for the next 5 weeks.

I was driving up an empty suburban road at 25 mph when the brakes suddenly went off, causing the car to skid to a stop. the dashboard screen said the pre-collision emergency braking system was activated. there was nothing in the road and no reason for the car to stop suddenly. thank god i wasn't on the highway - this is extremely dangerous.

A small chip on the black edge of the windshield occurred the end of february, then it turned into an 18' long crack across the windshield within a few hours on a road trip.

Multiple dead batteries over past year. when rear lift gate is left open for less then an hour with all lights including interior off it drains battery. 2019 lift gate module recalled due to 'dark draw' but didn't include earlier 2020 models which did not have new module incorporated yet. please investigate to include the early 2020 models in recall. this is happening to many people and is a hazard to be left stranded over such an easy fix that has already been incorporated in the 2019 models with the recall ... my car is in that 'grey area' only cause it is not a 2019 but before the fix was addressed on the 2020 year.

I have noticed several cracks in the windshield of my 2020 subaru forester. i first noticed a small crack on the upper drivers side. i have now seen multiple cracks that do not appear to have an origination point of impact from an object. additionally i have a crack that it forming in the area of the cameras for the eyesight which may lead to degradation or failure of the equipment to operate properly. the event that caused the cracks is unknown.

When attempting to leave our home driveway on friday, april 2nd, 2021 (approximately 4pm local time), the ignition button failed to start the car. initially, power was running to the dash. i called the subaru eastside dealership in kirkland, wa where the car was purchased. they told me to call roadside assistance, which i did the following morning. when my wife and i moved our car seat and belongings to the other car in the driveway, the rear lift gate started to malfunction and would not open (resulting in a repeated 3 beep sound), blocking access to my jumper cables, which were in the trunk. eventually, the electrical system stopped responding all together. when roadside assistance (sent out by subaru roadside) eventually showed up the following morning, a jump start by the technician started the vehicle.

Battery was drained for no reason and car would not start. when tried to start dash lights etc., went crazy. gauge for tachometer and speed whipped from side to side, lights flashed on and off. the starter gave the clicking noise you hear when battery is dead. called aaa to jump and they could not get it to start. i charged battery overnight and the engine started. took car to dealer they could find nothing wrong with the battery or charging system. they could not explain why this happened. i purchased a battery tender to maintain charge in battery. i only have 1 car and it needs to start when i need it. this happened on day i needed to take wife for covid vaccine shot.

Purchased new vehicle 10/23/19, 1st battery failure 6/15/2 jumped and ok 2nd battery failure 12/4/20 jumped, subaru replaced battery 3rd battery failure 2/16/21, subaru said battery was "fine" 4th battery failure 3/31/21 subaru replaced battery 5th battery failure 5/14/21, appt with subaru on 5/21/21

Driving at low speed heard a slight noise. didn’t see any damage but the windshield cracked. within about 2 minutes the crack spread approximately 3 inches. within another couple minutes the crack extended vertically and then turned horizontally running another 10 inches. i have never had a crack occur and extend in this matter. replacement and calibration of isight technology according to satellite and the dealer costs are around 1900 dollars.

Subaru eyesight technology has a pre collision feature along with lane departure feature. latter can be turned off permanently, the pre-collision feature cannot. number of instances where this has malfunctioned in a way that is unsafe. driving in upstate ny on foggy morning, winding hilly roads, 50mph roads. road had a driveway with a parked car not moving, parked and the pre collision system tried to break, so slowed down the car but there was another coming behind from a hilly turn, not aware i would suddenly slow, especially as i did not anticipate the car would try to put on breaks on its own for a parked unmoving car. no collision resulted fortunately, but unsafe if the car behind had not been able to slow to accomodate for the faulty detection by subaru’s eyesight, thinking the parked unmoving car was a sudden stopping vehicle in front of me, when the winding road was actually clear for me to continue driving. another incident on another road where a series of 4-5 cars driving constant speed, fixed distance from each other, then first car signalled to turn right and stopped; cars behind just went around them slightly as they were waiting to turn, and i was going to follow suit, the train of cars in front of me, when suddenly eyesight pre collision detected that turning vehicle as something to try to brake for, and the car behind me did not expect the sudden breaking attempt to slow down, and again, close call, no collision resulted but unsafe when the human driver was expecting to continue along with the other train of cars and not expecting a sudden stop. i have called subaru both dealership and main office but informed there is no way to permanently disable the pre collision setting in the car. concerned that if this feature is on, and erroneously detects an object in front, such as that parked unmoving car, in other situations the cars behind me may not be able to accomodate the attempts at sudden breaking by the subaru eyesight technology. dangerous.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - the original battery on our 2020 subaru forester died after some repairs related to getting rear ended. the battery died for the first time in march 2021, 8 months after we purchased the car with around 5500 miles on it. that battery was replaced with a brand new subaru battery. the battery has died 3 times since being replaced. the current battery is available for inspection. in addition to the battery dying, we have recently noticed two situations where the rear hatch has not properly latched. i have a video of the rear hatch trying to latch and popping back open over and over again. i've only noticed this twice, but the first time i noticed this i realize we had been driving with the rear hatch open and our dog could have been put in serious risk if the rear hatch opened. how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? issues with the battery dying multiple times puts me at risk of being stranded. the issue of the rear hatch means that anything that is placed in the rear of the vehicle may not be properly secured and could potentially fly out of the vehicle if the unlatched rear hatch opens while driving. has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the original dead battery was initially identified by a body shop. the dealer was not able to find anything wrong with the vehicle upon first inspection, but we are going to take it in again. has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle was inspected by a body shop (recommended by our insurance) and the dealer. were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? the only symptom we are able to routinely detect is a low voltage on our battery, which we believe indicates a parasitic draw.

On june 4, 2021 me and my famliy went for a 3 days road trip from cirlce pines minnesota going to duluth mn . the drive was approximately 2hrs plus. 12 mins. before we reached our destination the windshield suddenly showed a crack about 12 inches out from no where and blocks my visibility while driving. i went to my car dealer on 6/8/21 at morries subaru brooklyn park and asked for a replacement warranty but they denied it. 2020 forester windshields is so dangerous because even a small rock will make it crack and blocks clear visibility while driving. this is happening to more and more subaru cars with eyesight technology. nhtsa should investigate if there is manufacturing defect or engineering defect with this windshield for a safer road and driving experience. i have a dashcam video of the said incident. i am more willing to submit it for your reference.

I tried to unlock my car but the remote didnt work- i had to use the blank key inside the remote to get in the car. i couldn't start the car- my husband tried to jump it- that did not work- i called aaa they tried jumping it - that didnt work-- aaa told me the battery was good but totally out of charge 0%-- i called the subaru salesman i bought the car from & he walked me thru alot of steps & we couldn't find anything wrong besides the battery!! he told me to have my husband try to give me a jump again & after 4 hours the car turned over! what caused it????? no idea??? the next day (7/5/21) i took it to an auto parts store & they tested it out- alternator-perfect--- battery @ 550 with the max 620--- today i read an article about subaru batteries failing! well mine did for no apparent reason--- maybe they should all be recalled!! i missed my 1st day of vacation due to this!!

Have a few chips in windshield. they happen very easily so i googled and found that it's a known issue with a lawsuit. i just bought the car on july 2.

A small rock hit my windshield and seemed to crack it way more easily than it should have. i was researching cost to replace it and found the information about the lawsuit and the fact that it applies to my year of subaru. so i decided to file a complaint to be included in the lawsuit.

The battery on my 2020 subaru forester premium /lff14 drains within a week if not driven. there appears to be a parasitic battery drain problem. the car will not start. i replaced the original factory battery with a larger, after-market battery having been told by several sources that this problem is common to foresters and is caused by defective batteries being supplied to subaru. however, the new battery did not solve the problem. i regularly test the battery with a battery tester that indicates that the battery is ok, but is discharged and requires charging. i now keep a trickle charger on the car continuously. this seems to keep the battery charge up to 98%. i have retained the original battery which holds a charge indefinitely out of the vehicle. i am aware that driving the car to recharge the battery is extremely hard on the alternator and will cause it to prematurely fail. the car was purchased in august of 2020 and currently has less than 500 miles. this is a recurrent problem.

Purchased new on 5/22/2020. on aug 8th after not driving the car for 3 days, attempted to start vehicle. would not start. battery dead. charged battery with a jump. drove car home. next am. car would not start. battery dead. currently trying to get car in for service. this is very dangerous stranding people randomly.

Lane keep assist feature the lane keep assist feature seems, in general, to over steer causing sway back and forth across the lane. while i find this bothersome, most recently, at highway speed, the lane keep assist pulled the car (suddenly and somewhat violently) onto an exit ramp rather than holding the right lane. no one was hurt. no damage occurred. i was able to yank the wheel back to the lane with the entire incident over in less and a second. safety at risk? highway speed with unanticipated veer of intended path. it was good that traffic was quite light. i have not reported this to the dealer. no special warnings other than that the system "worked".

We were driving about 50 mph on a paved road in the suburbs of a city when suddenly we heard a "pop" and saw a chip in the passenger side of our windshield. no other cars were around us at the time and it was an open road (e.g., we did not drive under an overpass). we don't know how the chip occurred. we continued driving and then parked the car in our garage. four days later, with the car still in the garage, we discovered the chip had grown into a more than 20-inch crack horizontally on the passenger side of the car. we have been in touch with our insurance company and they have recommended a specific auto glass company to repair it. but we've been told it'll take 4 weeks or more to receive the replacement windshield and recalibrate it. we have since learned from searching the internet that cracking windshields on subaru models is a common complaint among subaru owners.

For no reason my windshield randomly cracked inside my garage, prior to the discovery the car had not been driven in several days.

I was in a parking lot at the time driving very slowly to pick a spot. when i went to turn right into the spot my car accelerated at an alarming speed. i had not control over it as it kept turning. it hit the car parked in front of my space pushing it and went on to hit the car parked to the right damaging both the front left and right sides of my vehicle and the 2 parked cars before coming to a stop. fortunately it was 9am and not very crowded, there were no passengers in both vehicles and no one walking in between or by the cars which could have been tragic. i was wearing a seatbelt. the police were called and completed a report. the subaru dealership was called and subaru of america was called. the car was inspected by a bosch.-eaa representative for subaru on 8/4/2021. i have not heard back from subaru so far although i was told it could take several weeks. there were no warning lights prior to the incident but afterwards there were several warning lights on. a few months before i got into my car and the radio was blaring and constantly switching channels and i was not able to turn the radio off. when i got home and turned off the car and turned the ignition back on 30 minutes later it had stopped. we notified the incident to subaru at the next oil change. i immediately notified ussa car insurance and filed a claim. i have not had the damages assessed for repair because i have to wait for the inspection results from subaru. i felt it was important to document this incident in case other 2020 forester owners have experienced the same thing. frightening.

On august 28, 2021, while driving on a one-way private road that leads to my home, i heard a loud pop and a foot-long crack instantly appeared on my driver's side windshield. i saw no rocks, no projectiles, nothing. this was a spontaneous crack on the windshield. this car is only a year and a half old with very little mileage. my 10 year-old granddaughter was in the car with me. i bought this car because of subaru's safety record. now i find out that subaru knew they had defective windshields and did not issue recalls and/or inform their customers of this problem. my granddaughter's safety is my top priority. subaru needs to live up to their ideals and fix this problem immediately and without charging any of their customers.

At one year old this vehicle was involved in a frontal collision with a deer and immediately upon impact burst into flames. the fire breached the firewall between the engine compartment and passenger compartment within less then a minute. within 2 minutes the engine compartment and front seat area was completely engulfed in flames and within 3 minutes the entire vehicle was engulfed. it appears the fire started as the fuel shut-off system that is supposed to stop the fuel from flowing once the airbags are deployed failed. this put the occupants of this vehicle and any others had this been a collision with another vehicle in extreme danger of serious injury if not even death. had the driver been incapacitated, not been able to open the door or had a child to remove from a car seat there would have been certain death due to the extremely rapid spread of the fire throughout the entire vehicle. this has been reported to subaru of america. the vehicle is currently being inspected by the insurance carrier. there were no prior warnings that there were any concerns with the safety features of this vehicle. it was just serviced by the dealer one month prior to the accident. in reviewing other complaints on the nhtsa website there is a complaint of a 2019 subaru forester that experienced this same complete and total destruction due to a fire erupting upon impact in what should have been a minor frontal collision.

The fuel saving stop/go feature is unsafe. it stops engine at signal lights and during stop and go traffic. when it restarts the engine shakes and hesitates to go when signal lights changes. this model doesn't allow the owner to permanent disable this function as in other models. it will cause lots rear - end related or other serious accidents on high speed roadways and freeways as this function continues.

When climbing shallow hills, car will buck and surge. engine rpm seemed to stay constant. the transmission seemed to be unable to decide on which gear it should be in. no accident occurred, but surging made the car's performance unpredictable in traffic. reported to dealer, who noted that this has happened to other cars in the past.

My 2020 subaru forester has less than 12,000 miles at the time of this complaint, but i am waiting on my fourth (4th) windshield for replacement. i have already paid the dealership, but no windshields have been received in over 2 months. my last windshield replacement was the last windshield that the dealership received. the windshields seem extremely thin and sometimes no rock ding occurred but the windshield was discovered shattered in my garage. my current windshield encountered a small piece of road debris and the windshield completely shattered and glass fragments were on my dashboard. if anything contacts my current windshield i fear it will completely disintegrate and my vehicle will be left with no windshield. my car is still under full warranty and i have met with dealership staff regarding the windshields, any recalls, my safety concerns, and no one has done anything except left me pay for a windshield that they have no idea when or it it may arrive. one part department staff member (ryan), stated that even if they receive the forester windshields, they may not arrive intact since they shatter and break during transport. this is extremely concerning and it obviously a safety issue with these vehicles. if i had been aware of this issue i would have purchased another brans and make of vehicle in october 2019.

The subaru windshield on our 2020 forester developed two large cracks, discovered in the morning of october 4, 2021, after the car was parked at a hotel overnight. there were no observed impacts from stones or anything else the day before. the eyesight safety system has not been working since then, and it appears that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle. the insurance company and the dealer have been notified. the dealer inspected the vehicle but has told us there are no windshields available for replacement anywhere in the us. there were no warning signs prior to the cracks developing.

Windshield has crack starting at bottom middle of passenger side that curves up to about half way up and over the windshield ending about midpoint between passenger and driver. car had been last driven sunday, october 17th 2021 and then no crack was still visible as of friday morning. but between friday and saturday, october 23rd 2021 the crack appeared when the vehicle had not been driven in 5 days. heard about possible windshield issues with recent subaru models so wanted to submit my info as from what i can tell nothing hit the windshield to cause the problem. since 10.23 the car has been driven and i am not seeing the crack spread any further thus far.

I was driving on a highway cloverleaf on october 29 2021 when i heard a load popping sound in the windshield area. at the time it occurred the closest vehicle in front of me was a pickup truck several hundred yards ahead of me on the curve, so i was not inline with the rear of the vehicle. within about 15 seconds a crack started creeping from the upper drivers side of the windshield, to the center middle of the window. the sound i heard was nothing like a rock hitting the window. i took the forester to lee's summit subaru and had service advisor greg richards take a look at it and he said there was a small impact area (1/20th cm) , but said it looked to small to have caused the crack. he said, "that because of the eyesight system, subaru had to make the glass thinner than the industry standard for it to work consistently, they chose the higher safety rating over a stronger windshield." he checked to se if we had purchased windshield replacement insurance, which we had not. he told me he has a friend that has gone through six windshield's on his outback in the last 2 years. he said the problem was with any subaru with the eyesight system. i took photos of what he said was the impact area, with a ruler for reference.

I have owned several cars in the past but my subaru forester’s windshield cracked within the first year. i now have 3 cracks in my windshield and i havent even had it for 2 years. i even spoke with my local subaru dealership and they even say the windshields crack more then they should.

Ever since we purchased our subaru, the rpm's seemed a little off and then at random times when i put it in reverse, it will just idle and i will slowly press on the accelerator and it will not engage in reverse and then random pop into gear and lunge backwards. it doesn't happen every time, but is scary when it does. this has been happening pretty much since we purchased it

Driver gets choked while drinking a cold beverage, gets disoriented and loses consciousness momentarily causing the vehicle to veer off the street and strike a tree with extensive front end damage. airbags did not deploy at all. driver has injuries from the crash, such as possible fractured wrist, contusions and much pain in the neck, chest and back areas. she was transported by ems to the hospital. insurance was notified and an adjuster has already sent a repair appraisal and cut a check for the estimated cost of repairs. the driver does not feel comfortable about the having the car repaired with potentially faulty airbags. we have photos of the car. we have stated our concerns about this to the insurance company and the vehicle manufacturer. they have opened a file with our concerns and we are waiting to learn further from the insurance provider and the car maker. my wife has numerous injuries and does not feel secure keeping this car. a police report is filed and i have also made an initial request to a consult with an attorney.

Frequent battery dying problem in 2020 subaru forester from grayson subaru, knoxville, tn i am a 67 year old woman who does much scientific research in remote places alone at night. during the day, i manage 3 farms 100 miles apart. i am constantly opening and closing gates, getting out briefly to check livestock and fix fences. if my keys are left in the ignition even briefly, as i get in an out for small tasks, the car battery is dead. other times it is simply dead for no reason at all. in my over 50 years of driving all sorts of cars and trucks, i have never had this problem. i have had constant problems with this car battery dying in as little as 5 minutes after driving 50 miles. i have brought this problem to grayson subaru’s attention and spent hours waiting as they checked for problems. they never find anything. i have made numerous calls. they assure me this is “normal”. this is not normal. not in my over 50 years of driving cars. i am forced to carry a car booster with me at all times. this is a terrible situation for a car which typically is owned by people who often camp, are doing sports in remote places or need a small rugged car for farm work or field research or outdoor activities. here are just a few times i have contacted grayson subaru over this problem. i have had dead battery many more times than this (just in past 2 weeks jan 5, 10 and 14, 2022), but have had to jump it off because i was in a dangerous. i bought the car in sept 2021 from grayson as a new car: calls and visits to grayson over the battery problem. jan 22, 2021; august 11, 2021; aug 23, 2021; aug 24, 2021; oct 5, 2021; nov 17, 2021; jan 11, 2022. i do not want to invoke the tennessee lemon law (t.c.a. 55-24-101 to t.c.a. 55-24-112), but i also cannot continue to drive such an unreliable car. i see there is a “battery drain" lawsuit for 2020 subaru foresters. i believe this car has the same problem. what do i do?

My windshield has an edge crack starting yesterday. rapidly, it has grown to 7~10 inches and it's still happening even when i'm not driving. i have not observed any obvious reasons for this to happen and it's now start impacting the front side visibility during driving.

10/2021: the vehicle completely shut-off at the beginning of a turnabout in front of the fire department. per nearby pedestrians, automobile owners, employees of the fire department and aaa driver, the start/stop battery or alternator malfunctioned. the vehicle only had 51k miles. this was a new vehicle purchase in 2019. the safety of my toddler and i were at risk as soon as we entered the beginning of a turnabout. i had reported several safety issues from tires, brakes, burning feelings on my skin , my jaw locking up and seatbelt malfunctioning for nearly 1.5 years. each time i was told they could not replicate the issue. occurred. problems occurred at the 1st oil change at 5-6k miles. when the car completey shut-off i tried turning the car on and all the dashboard lights came on and i was able to roll my toddlers window down. the car shut off again and when i turned the ignition on the wheel became stuck along with the ignition. i turned the emergency/caution lights on and thought that would provide us safety from other cars colliding into us. i noticed cars would wait directly behind me and then honk their horn if i did not drive-off. nearby pedestrians walked by and mentioned the emergency/caution lights were not flashing. i told them to look at my dashboard because they are flashing. the nearby dealership inspected the car and determined the start/stop battery was bad. the corporate office decided to pay for the labor, parts and car rental fees -as a goodwill gesture. 2/2022: 3-4 months has gone by and now there is an acidic feeling on the driver's side stemming from the front and back and even the wheel - when the car is turned on and it lingers when you turn the car off. i even placed a lime and orange i the car for an acidity test as expected it both reacted to the acidity from the car. makes it hard to talk in the car, vision gets blurry and its almost like you have covid-19 symptoms but you don't really have it.

My windshield cracked by itself overnight while the car was parking with no signs of any trauma to it. searching online there are multiple cases reported same problem i definitely believe there is a manufacturers defect with these windshields

A cracked windshield - the second replacement windshield in two months - as in the case of the first replacement windshield, this second crack appeared as i was sitting in a parking space in a parking lot. no movement of my vehicle. i've spoken with representatives of the company which installed this windshield and this company claims no responsibility. this company is authorized by subaru. i've spoken to the manager of the subaru dealership from which i purchased the car. the dealership claims no responsibility. i am planning to write to subaru's corporate offices.

I bought my new 2020 forester in november 2019. it now has 1604 miles on it. twice already i've had to have it towed to the dealership because the battery was dead from just sitting in my driveway. the first time, february 2021, they said it was a bad battery. the second time, january 2022, they said it's because i don't drive the car enough. said i have to drive or idle the car for at least 15 minutes twice per week which is a waste of gas and time for something that shouldn't happen to start with! there are already lawsuits about this constant battery drain but the 2020 forester isn't included and it should be! there is no reason for the battery to constantly drain to the point that the car won't start when the car is sitting with everything turned off!

I was driving from gainesville georgia to stuart florida and all of the sudden the windshield cracked from the top upper left corner to about 6 inches down. it continued to crack for about 18 inches or so within the next 24 hours. i only had the vehicle since september, 2020.

The battery died after less than two years. there is a class action lawsuit related to recent subarus draining batteries very quickly due to parasitic power drain because of a faulty electrical system. the 2020 forester was included in the initial lawsuit, but this model was thrown out of the lawsuit by the judge since none of the plaintiffs owned a forester. however, it is a known issue. prematurely and unexpectedly dead batteries, as i experienced, can cause motorists to be stranded and face related hazards, as well as to incur unexpected costs. i spent more than $200 to replace my battery long before the minimum expected three-year battery life.

At the time,time, car was not fully 2 years old.. its brand new.this is an addition to a post created a week ago. after the dealership offered to detail the interior of the car to solve the sulferic acid feeling i noticed that the flap above the driving wheel started to feel warm. this happened right in the morning in february. i'm not sure if i am feeling an electrical voltage, smelling the exhaust or there's still sulferic acid in the car. every once in awhile i my hair smells like oil.. whatever it is it makes your head feel heavy. my toddler feels something because during a drive he will say " hot". this puts our safety at risk if we are smelling the exhaust or feeling voltage while driving in the car. sometimes it smells like fuel i the trunk of the car or acidic

I was driving in fine weather, in a smooth highway when a crack occurred in the windshield for no apparent reason. i initially thought a dust particle must have hit in the wrong place, but then was alerted to the fact that a windshield should not break for no apparent reason. i have owned cars for decades, and this is the first time that i have had a windshield crack, and in a nearly new car. it is a forester 2020. i drove a forester 2002 for nearly fifteen years with no issue ever. i have, upon research, found out that i am one of many people waiting for subaru windshields for my same model, and that there is clearly a pattern that suggests an error in the making. i called subaru of america and also my dealership and neither one seemed receptive to my concerns, nor showed any awareness of windshield issues. i did my own research after the glass company alerted me to the fact that there is a class action lawsuit for my very vehicle in process due to overwhelming problems with the windshields cracking for no apparent reason. i find this really concerning. subaru markets itself for its all terrain vehicles, and while i only drive on roads and highways, they are vehicles supposedly designed to go through much rougher terrain. the problems with the windshields are a concerning safety alert for all the owners of these vehicles, and particularly for those who use them in a variety of terrains. i did find through my own research that there are indeed lawsuits currently in process for this very issue, and that prior models were already recalled as well.

Automatic braking system failed and led to a front end collision immediately a fire broke out under the hood and accelerated into the car with in minutes using a tire iron the passenger door was forced opened air bags deployed (3) and seat belt held

Windshield - the front windshield cracked all by itself. this is the 2nd time the front windshield cracked. i got the 1st driver side crack repaired as it was relatively small (dime size). the 2nd time the crack was on the passenger side. this cracked is in the middle of the window and is approximately 17 inches long and starts at the edge. the crack happened when i was driving.

Windshield cracked from no apparent damage. i was driving and a hairline fracture spread from the top driver side of the windshield to the middle.

The forester's windshield cracked over 2 feet. we brought it to the dealer for a warranty claim, and the dealer rejected it. they said the windshield was hit by something and caused the crack. i am not sure how big of an object has to hit the windshield to cause such a crack. subaru is not taking any responsibility for their product's quality. this is a common problem for subaru owners and should be addressed via recall.

I got in my car one day and noticed a crack going up through the middle of my windshield - about 10 inches and went all the way to the bottom edge of the glass. after traveling a short distance (15ish min) and leaving it parked for a couple of hours, i came back and it had now turned horizontally across the windshield maybe 4-6 inches toward the driver's side. no impact or incident to cause the crack initially or that extended it.

I drove my car at lunchtime to get lunch and returned to work. there was no issue. then less than 5 hours later when i left work around 5:30 pm and went to my car there was a large crack from the base of my windshield almost in the center. it doesn’t go all the way to the top but curves in a sort of u shape. obviously i now need a new windshield.

The battery drains regularly, causing the vehicle to be inoperable. battery is dead after 3 days of non use, leaving vehicle unable to be used.

Large crack appeared in windshield. car was parked at the time and was not hit by anything. filed claim with insurance company and they are going to replace windshield. called evanston subaru about incident about warranty coverage and they have not returned my call. i have read that this is a problem for subarus.

For the 2nd time in 5 months, my windshield has cracked (crack in excess of 6 inches) for no apparent reason

I have had four cracked windshields since i took possession of the car in october 2020. august 2021, october 2021, april 2022, april 2022

Electrical defect in recent subarus causes parasitic battery drain when the car is not in use. our battery drained to the point that the vehicle couldn’t start without a jump due to this defect.

Since purchasing 2020 subaru forester (35k miles) i have now had to replace three (3) windshield and have one (1) additional suboptimal windshield repair. three incidents were immediately apparent from road debris from cars/trucks traveling in the opposite direction or passing. one appeared spontaneously. the cracks are all 12-24" long and curiously have only been in the areas directly in front of the driver's forward vision. prior to this i have been without any auto insurance claims for over 40 years! 1. windshield unsuitably sensitive to chipping and cracking. 2. impairs driver vision and impairs use of eye sight technology. 3. all defects/damages have been confirmed by safelite. 4. no other third party inspections have been required. 5. no warning lamps appeared before the incidents.

The vehicle is about 19 months old and has less than 15,000 miles. we were driving on the highway, passed a large truck, and a small rock got kicked up and hit the windshield near the top, just passenger-side of the eyesight camera. a 5 inch crack formed while we were driving and it grew another 2 inches before we made it to our destination. there is now a 7-in vertical crack in the windshield.

The car was parked and idling for a few minutes as a passenger exited the vehicle. while parked, the car began to shake slightly, it was then placed in reverse to get out of the parking space. still shaking. when it was put in gear to go forward, the car began to accelerate on its own. the driver was able to use the brake to stop the vehicle but, when she took her foot off the brake to make a left turn and towards the park exit, the vehicle accelerated abruptly, and the car surged towards a main road. the passenger in the seat next to her was able to see clearly that the driver’s foot was not on the gas pedal. the driver was able to steer the vehicle clear of the park visitors, avoid other vehicles in the parking lot, and stop the car prior to reaching the traffic light at the main road. stunned by the incident, the driver decided to return the vehicle to the parking lot, so she opted to make a u-turn at the light. as she turned the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated once again without her foot on the gas pedal. after the driver was able to maneuver the car into a parking space, the vehicle started to shake violently, and the driver shut off the engine. when the driver attempted to restart the car with the intent to drive home slowly, the driver placed the vehicle in reverse, and applied her foot to the gas pedal but, the vehicle would barely move. the engine revved when the pedal was pushed all the way to the floorboard but, the vehicle only moved at approximately 5mph. once parked in a space, the vehicle shook violently, and the dashboard lights lit up. the vehicle was turned off and emergency call button inside the vehicle was used to contact subaru. the car was towed to the dealership.

On highway speeds, the hood, which is shut, rattles. i have not had the hood inspected nor i have brought it to the manufacturer.

There have been three cracks in the front windshield in 18 months with little to no provocation. these have required replacement of the front windshield and re-calibration of eyesight. with each crack, there was little to no cause. on one occasion, there was a tiny piece of gravel that resulted in a crack that extended across 50% of the front windshield. my concern is for my personal safety should the windshield crack and cause harm to me as the driver or impair my visibility while driving which increases my risk for an accident. there’s also the concern about cost and time spent with repeated replacements. the date of incident below is the date of the third crack

Drove the car to my place of work. there were no rocks , chips or other hitting the windshield. came out to the car in the parking lot at lunch and the was a crack that stretched from the lower passenger side to the middle of the windshield. the local subaru dealer played "dumb" and acted like they had never seen this problem and then blamed it on a rock chip after learning we knew of the thousands of subaru's with similar problems.

The windshield cracked without any known trauma. the car was parked in a lot and when i came out the windshield had a large crack in it. the dealer where the car is serviced refused to see it stating they do not replace windshields.

2 small cracks on windshield, unknown cause, possible small pebble. now extended to a large crack on my winshield effecting eyesite. through research appears this year and model has been shown to have a defective windshield and previous lawsuits filed. would like to know if this lawsuit can be used in my case or if i can file. cost to replace is ~ $3,000 out of pocket. this is ridiculous.

Windshield has cracked in 2 different spots, one on the driver side and the other on the passenger side. the passenger side is a crack from the edge to the center of the windshield. i didn't see the item, it was so small it may have been a pebble, and barely heard the noise. i don't feel safe to drive it because i am worried the crack will go across the entire windshield making it unsafe to drive. i haven't filed a claim with my insurance company yet, but understand it is expensive to replace and get calibrated for the eyesight camera.

Front windshield seems very susceptible to chips and cracks. since i purchased the vehicle new on 4/16/2020, the following repaired have happened: 3/15/21- chip repaired $19 8/30/21- two chips repaired $19 9/8/21- front window replaced after the formation of a large crack $410.28 5/30/22- crack spread from a chip that occurred yesterday (not repaired yet)

The windshield broke for no apparent reason. it’s a big crack that affects visibility. i know there is an ongoing problem with other similar suburu vehicles and is currently under a lawsuit process.

While driving, a small pebble was believed to strike the front windshield (lower passenger side) because we heard a loud pop then noticed the windshield cracked immediately spanning the lower center of the windshield at least 18 inches from end to end. this crack negatively impacts driver visibility, distorting the view during both day and night driving. insurance has not yet inspected the windshield.

While driving one day on the road i heard a pop noise and noticed a huge thin line crack in my windshield. this was directly in front of my line of vision while driving. it made it extremely difficult and dangerous to see while driving and light would reflect off the crack causing a glare. yes, the problem has been confirmed by an independent service center and has been inspected by an independent party. there was no warning prior to this incident.

The vehicle has 27000 miles and the windshield shows multiple small chips and voids. the windshield is really thin and can’t take any wear and tear.

Unknown - the windshield seems to have spontaneously cracked. it was parked overnight in an uncovered driveway, and now there is a large crack down the middle. there is no particular pattern to suggest impact (and regardless the driveway is not underneath any nearby trees or other structures).

My windshield cracked overnight, in my driveway, with no possibility of a person or animal being the cause. the nearest neighbor is 2 miles away. subaru warranty denied my claim and said they saw a rock chip in the pics. the glass repair shop that submitted the claim said their was no sign of force (rock) to the windshield being the cause of the crack.

Dtc p26a3 thermo control valve ? all my safety features are disabled until the part becomes available- it is apparently on back order and/ or not part of an active recall or both ? having difficulty getting information from my dealer/service dept

I was driving down the highway & noticed a crack was growing insanely large due to the heat & while i had other cracks on my windshield that were little dings it looked like a grain of sand/very small pebble hit the side of my windshield and nearly cracked in down the middle. i have heard of other people with subaru foresters complaining about this issue & it makes the safety of the driver at risk when just about anything can crack your windhshield making it unsafe to drive/hard to see.

I believe the subaru forester 2020 windshield is dangerous and is a system failure. in april, 2022 a piece of gravel hit the windshield--smaller than the size of a quarter. within hours, the windshield had fractured so much that there was no way that i could continue to drive safely as the windshield flowered and split the driver's eye view. i reported the claim to insurance (usaa) and took the car on may 12, 2022 to safelight to be repaired. after working on it for three hours, they couldn't get the eyesight to calibrate. i drove for two weeks without those safety features until i could get to safelight again. after 3 more hrs i was finally told to take it to the dealership to finalize repairs and again the eyesight was not calibrated. those safety features were not available until on june 6, 2022 the delearship calibrated eyesight. driving on july 20, 2022 a small piece of gravel hit the passenger corner and within 2 hrs, split the windshield again. i have never had a windshield perform like this--it is very dangerous and i believe in a crash, the windshield would injure me rather than prevent impact. i am worried about my safety. i cannot afford to repair the windshield when it may happen again. in 44 years of driving, i have never had a windshield that was so weak.

Battery drained, towed to dealership twice within a month battery replaced then failed within 2 weeks everything checked out ok but battery still drained very frustrating

The windshield on the 2020 subaru forester, as reported by many other owners, is extremely brittle and prone to frequent chips/rapidly spreading cracks. since purchasing new, i have had two chips that resulted in small cracks and one that resulted in a larger spiderweb crack. none of these were caused by stone/pebble impacts i would have expected to cause windshield damage. (i have lived in the same area with a ford ranger, jeep wrangler, ford escape, vw sportwagen, and 2016 forester, and never experienced any windshield chips needing repair with any of the others.) while getting my third crack repaired today, the technician stated that a disproportionate amount of his work in the last two years has been on late-model subarus. the technician who completed the second chip repair around four months ago stayed the same — a high number of late-model subarus with chips and cracks. my experience seems reflective of a high number of other subaru owners, and is reflected in an ongoing class action case involving the increased fragility of recent subaru’s windshields.

Windshield cracked with minor strikes. there are two cracks, one small crack, one large crack in windshield and some chips. the windshield seems to be prone to cracking and when i discussed this with the subaru dealer on 08/05/2022 about the 2020 forester, he stated that the windshields are thinner to reduce weight for improved fuel efficiency and are not as durable as older windshields. the representative said it would cost $1415.80 plus tax to replace with original windshield. why would i want an original windshield if it not durable and prone to breaking? this is a defective product and i would think it would be replaced by the dealer at no charge with a more durable product.

I drive this v little, but the steering wheel has repeatedly tried to jerk me into the left lane when tuning right and right when turning left! i stopped using cruise, but it still does it. i am an advanced driver, but don't low, if i could overcome this if it acted like some other 2020 foresters i've read owners state have gone off the road and rolled over! also the auto stop - start often shuts engine off when power is needed - is totally unpredictable! this is my wife's car, but she got it as the seat works with my v bad back! had i known the eyesight system would malfunction (i did not trust it, but hoped it would be ok!), i'd have insisted on getting a good older car without unproven so called driver aids! we really don't have the $ to replace the car!

Windshield cracked, what appears to be originated from the inside near the heating coil. has spread horizontal about two-thirds of the windshield. available for inspection upon request. has not had any inspections yet. can inhibit the eyesight if continues to spread.

There are various lights on on the dash of the vehicle when nothing is seemingly inherently wrong with the vehicle. i notified the dealership about this issue, the dealership claimed that special parts were ordered but i still have not been notifed of their arrival. this puts my safety at risk due to the fact that i am not sure wether the car actually has an issue, or if it is a mere malfunction. the vechicle is now shaking.

Battery drains constantly and car will not start. this has happened several times the past month. i understand that it is an ongoing issue with other subaru's. this is dangerous and must be fixed. this issue has happened 3 times in 2 weeks. 8/1, 8/13, 8/15/2022

We discovered a crack in the windshield this morning across the lower half of the passenger side. there was no sign of any impact, just the crack. the crack was not there when the vehicle was parked yesterday afternoon.

Subaru has a known issue with a thermo control valve in foresters. apparently the part is failing all over the place and they redesigned the part and are replacing it. the problem is the part is backordered and the dealerships are telling people it is safe to drive the car. our car completely shut off at highway speed. i have since learned this is happening to a number of other owners who were also told it was safe to drive it while the part is back ordered. this vehicle has a lot of advanced driver features and some or all of them are shut off when this happens. very dangerous for them to tell people to keep driving it and the vehicle should be recalled to replace the defective part that is failing.

My 3rd windshield needs to be replaced for cracking clear across. the first one shattered after a pine one fell from a tree and completely shattered the glass. employer paid 1,000 (see pic)the next was hit by small pebbles and it instantly cracked one half of windshield. insurance paid with 500 deductible. this time i heard a pop and a crack appeared from the bottom and continued to crack all the way across with several cracks starting from the original crack. an estimate of 1,000to fix it.

The suv developed the long crack across its windshield (see attachment) while parked in garage. there was no impact to cause the disintegration. there was a minor "star" damage at the bottom of the windshield, approx. 3/4 - 1 inch wide, no ding, that had occurred some two weeks prior, that i was about to get repaired. the concern here is quality of the glass that is easily damaged and disintegrates without impact.

2nd event - soy based transmission wiring chewed. twice in two years. car garaged, traps in garage. our cost: about $1500. time in shop - 3 months, due to "no parts".

Corrupted driver assist software. dashboard icons for hands on steering wheel, dynamic vehicle control, lane change control were flashing that systems were off, controls were turned off randomly. vehicle was not tracking appropriately in its lane, steering was not acting correctly. car at times acted as if it were being blown by a strong crosswind. steering between lanes was not consistent. icon warning that my hands were not on steering wheel when both my hands were on the steering wheel.

I have a 2020 subaru forester with low mileage. a few weeks ago, i started to move forward when the traffic light turned green. there is a car in front of me that started to move forward. there was another car perpendicular to my right. i started to apply the gas, and the car fought me and was appying the brakes. i saw no reason for the car to brake. this concerns me. i was on dry pavement in daylight. i fear if this had happened when the roads were covered with ice or snow, it could have caused me to spin out.

Windshield cracked rapidly (seconds) from left bottom to center of windshield beyond repair. windshield did not have previous damage or was hit by foreign object, appears to be a stress crack. local subaru dealer referred that this situation should be discussed with subaru usa.

I've owned this car for less than a week and already have to replace a battery that was said to be completely fine. it does not retain charge or replenish when parked.

Battery will not hold a charge. battery frequently needs to be recharged. bought a portable jumper, to ensure vehicle will start away from home where the battery would otherwise be charged in the garage.

In less than 2 years of owning this car the battery failed putting me in a very dangerous situation. while standing in the middle of the road to make a turn into incoming traffic the car was off because of the auto stop-start system. as i released the brake and tried to accelerate to cross the intersection the car failed to restart automatically and stalled as if the battery did not have enough power. i had to place the car in parking and restart it again in the middle of the road. this happened multiple times. i took the car to the dealer and it was confirmed that the battery was bad and it was replaced. the new battery was good for sometime but lately it feels that it lacks power again, specially to restart when off from the auto start-stop system. this problem is very concerning as it can cause a major accident if unable to restart when expected.

Windshield cracked for no apparent reason from edge. started to spread.

Vehicle was parked in a parking lot for approx 30 mins. upon returning to the vehicle, the windscreen was found to have been cracked. visibility is now obscured. this problem is known to subaru, however they refuse to do anything about it. a class action lawsuit was filed in 2020 over the problem.

Repeated experiences of battery going dead after simply opening and closing doors a few times a day for four days. engine was not started in this time. all interior light were off and rear hatch remained closed. safety risk is being stranded in rural locations, at times with no cell service. local subaru dealer indicated i needed an authorization code from a battery lawsuit settlement to look into it. lawsuit doesn’t include my vehicle vin and only reimburses cost for battery replacement and possibly towing, not a repair. research into the problem has indicated that this “parasitic drain “ can be remedied by replacing the defective older prg module with the effective newer one. this should be covered by the warranty on a two year old car. local dealer would only refer to the lawsuit for direction. suspect they are “buying time” until warranty expires to avoid doing the appropriate repair. see attached file for example of correct repair from another subaru owner.

This is about a problem of which your agency is already aware. subaru of america has been aware of a defective thermo control valve for almost a year (part 21319aa010). the part was redesigned since the initial part was subject to extreme corrosion. the redesigned part has the same part number as the original part. subaru did not do any recall but instead waited for the parts to fail. when it fails on a car with safety features (called "eyesight"), each and every safety feature is permanently disabled until the redesigned part is installed. in addition, the engine runs too cool and there is little or no cabin heat. my car has been on the lot of my local dealership for 2 months with no end in sight. my car is covered by the original warranty and an extended warranty. managers at the dealership have told me that they have no idea when the part will arrive, that it may be many months and that there are many people already waiting for the part. a 6-page letter by me to the general counsel of subaru of america did not result in any direct response. by information and belief, this involves thousands of cars nationwide. by information and belief, dealerships are initially telling people the cars are still drivable despite the loss of all safety features since this what was initially told to me. i refused to accept the car in a defective unsafe condition. there may be thousands of cars being driven in which said safety features are fully disabled. subaru claims the part has been on "back order" since march. by information and belief, based upon subaru's own february 2022 service bulletin, it appears that the newly designed part is currently being installed on new cars at the factory thereby putting into question the "backorder" label. this analysis was enunciated in detail in my letter to subaru of america's general counsel and there was no response contesting that allegation. your agency's investigation and intervention are immediately required.

On october 26th 2022 i was in a accident with a deer. it was a head on collision where my airbags deployed but the main windshield airbag didn't go off.

1. fragile windshield, easily get cracks on it. it is available for inspection upon request. 2. could cause serious problem if the crakes are bigger and on the diver's side. 3. not yet. but a lot other subaru forester owners have experienced the same problem. 4. not yet. 5. no.

The other day, the check engine light came on & eyesight was disabled. i take it to the nearest mechanic who tells me that the cooling fans are running too long at idle & this could drain the battery. he also tells me to watch for the engine overheating. the recently checked coolant level had dropped lower than the minimum. i take it to dealer who keeps it for day. similar to the 2 other complaints, the fault is related to tsb-09-80-21r calling for replacement parts to be installed. subaru did not do any recall but instead waited for the parts to fail. i have minimal heat & the engine runs cool a lot of the time which affects emissions. my gas mileage is getting worse. the part is on backorder with no estimated time of arrival. i was told to just keep driving it & to let them know if it starts to run rough. the dealer said there are a lot of other cars & drivers in this situation at the dealer’s service department.

Rock chip on windshield spread across whole windshield in 2 days. had to pay $1200 to have it replaced with a third party windshield.

Engine shuts off when coasting into a turn when car is moving at less than 5mph. causes loss of steering. will restart if gas pedal is pumped. dealer can find no problem. does not happen predictably and can not always be replicated. very dangerous.

I have had to replace the tire valve stems on all 4 tires. in addition, 1 of the replacement valve stems also had to replaced within 1 year when it was first replaced. all this within the first 3 years of owning the vehicle.

I haven’t driven my 2020 subaru forester since 11/06/22 i come out this morning to a cracked windshield on the driver side obstructing my view. no form of impact what so ever - what needs to be done about this ?

I bought this vehicle new. in the past three years, i have needed three windshield repairs. the first two were chips that could be filled and repaired. most recently, a small chip has begun cracking and will require replacing the entire windshield at substantial cost. this vehicle is more prone to windshield damage from normal interstate use than any other i have driven in four decades.

Windshield cracked with out any other related damage. no rock chips or other damage. while sitting still windshield popped and a small 1/2 inch crack started on the edge of the glass and spread all the way across the windshield. subaru clames there is no coverage even tho there is no damage to the windshield

When i was driving this car one night, every dash light was suddenly activated and remained on -- and as a result all safety features were deactivated. when i was able to do so, i touched the battery cables together to reboot the system. i had to do this 3 times over the course of 4 days. realizing the problem was chronic, i took the car to the dealership (a 2 hour drive), where a service tech explained the problem 'was caused by a low battery.' this car is only 2 years old. a new car battery should last longer than 2 years. it thus seems to me the battery was defective or the car improperly drained it somehow. more important, there is no warning that a 'low battery' -- one which can easily start a car -- could still deactivate safety features while driving.

The windshield cracked while i was stopped at a light. it creates a visibility issue. the windshield was repaired previously and has cracked again. the vehicle has not been inspected the manufacturer, police, insurance or others. there were no warnings prior to the incidents.

The subaru starlink system has no controls around transfer of ownership. i only discovered this after receiving a $150 charge 2 months after i traded in the car to a subaru dealer. even after trading in the car i was able to unlock, lock, start the car, and track the cars location. this represents a significant safety risk to the consumer and must be addressed immediately.

Driving car in my town to grocery store. as i was driving, i looked in rearview mirror and noticed the windshield had spontaneously developed a 6 inch crack running straight down from the middle of the top edge, directly over the rearview mirror. the crack was not there when i'd started driving approximately 30 minutes prior. no impacts, not using wipers, temperatures have been moderate. there is no glass chip or other indication of impact at the edge of the windshield or on the adjacent edge of the car roof. there is no other visible damage to the windshield. the car is 2 months out of standard warranty. i will be filing an insurance claim.

The headlights produces little to no lighting when driving at night. i almost got into an accident last night because i had extremely low visibility, even with the high beams on.

Windshield cracked in j shape starting at the center of the bottom. the crack appeared overnight; there was no crack when the car was parked the night before, and the crack was observed when entering the car the next morning. no impacts observed. approximately 12k miles.

While merging into a lane, i went to accelerate. i pressed the accelerator pedal to the floor to quickly get up to the speed of traffic. after successfully merging into the lane, i took my foot off of the accelerator pedal and noticed that my vehicle was still accelerating. the floor mat was not interfering with the accelerator pedal. thankfully, slamming on my brakes while in the middle of a lane caused the accelerator pedal to come off the floor and my vehicle began to decelerate. this was frightening and an absolute hazard to the well-being of myself and other drivers and pedestrians on the road. without quick thinking and a lack of traffic ahead of me, i and others would have likely been involved in a life-threatening traffic accident. whether this is a reoccurring incident or a one-time incident, this is not acceptable for any vehicle sold and allowed to be driven by a manufacturer or dealership.

Car stalls occasionally while stopped in traffic, at a signal, stop sign, and in heavy street or highway traffic. i have read about this, and it is problematic for this make and model, posing a significant safety hazard.

Much like the 2018 outback issue i had, my 2020 forester is having the same issue with fuel indication inaccuracy and mpg increasing when fuel level gets under a quarter of a tank. my local suburu dealership said this is not an issue for this model. i have reported this to suburu as well. previously, subaru found that the software that controls the fuel system can cause the fuel gauge to show that there is still fuel left in the tank when there isn’t. more specifically, the low fuel warning light may not actually come on, and the miles to empty display could be inaccurate. the software is causing additional miles to be showing when they are not available. i don't know if this is a similar issue or not, but no one has fixed it. with any vehicle, you need to be able to rely on the fuel gauge. knowing how full (or empty!) your gas tank is extremely important when driving, particularly if you are driving a long distance. if you do run out of gas, the engine can stall; fortunately, the vehicle can be driven to the side of the road if it stalls when you are in motion. as the issue involves a software bug, it is easily fixed by the dealership.

Was slowly pulling into a parking spot when the "automatic emergency braking" and "collision avoidance systems" engaged. the systems said that there was an "object detected" and slammed the car to a stop. shut off the car and got out, there was no object. had to disable the aeb system to pull into the parking space. vehicle and component have not been inspected for this issue. vehicle received regular maintenance at a shop (oil change) about 1 month ago and new tires about 1 week ago. problem has not been confirmed.

I was on the highway doing 70 mph with the adaptive cruise control set. then suddenly the check engine light turned on, the eye site and cruise shut down and the car slowed down quickly to 60 mph almost getting rear ended. this subaru forester has 65,592 miles. the subaru dealer said that the cooling therm valve is bad and needs to be replaced. this cooling therm valve seems to be a major part of the engine and they want $1500 to fix the problem.

The battery life was considerably short. it started requiring frequent jump starts.

The check engine light illuminated and the thermo control valve failed at 3 years old. the defrost and heater stopped working immediately making visibility extremely difficult . the eyesight and automatic braking system were also disabled due to the tcv issue. my forester mpg dropped to under 20 mpg. the subaru dealer inspected and confirmed code p26a3 and stated the thermo control valve needs to be replaced.

Noticed a crack in the windshield glass today in the parking lot at work. this crack starts at the bottom of the windshield and goes upward about 8 inches. there are no signs of the windshield being hit. i looked this issue up and there is a class action lawsuit going on about defective windshields on certain subaru models. mine is included.

We hit a deer, front-end impact, then our forester started on fire and completely burned up. the airbags did not deploy, we were not injured but the car is a complete loss.

Firestone wauwatosa, wi told me i need to have them recalibrate the driver assist system as part of an alignment i took the car in for on 5523. this added $125.00 on top of a $209.99 cost for the lifetime alignment cost. laura, in the service department at zeigler subaru, kenosha, where we bought the car, said this would only have to be done if the car had been in an accident. not knowing what is actually required leaves me feeling unsafe.

My windshield has cracked - huge lines running across the windshield including the driver's side - three times in 2.5 years necessitating i pay out of pocket to replace the windshield each time. i will now need to get my fourth windshield in less than 3 years of having a brand new car. though i have been told that it was "outside influence" such as a rock, i did not see or hear a rock hit the windshield. not to mention i have owned many other cars and have never had to replace the windshield so many times. the latest windshield i replaced was less than a month ago and now i have to replace it again. there was a recall/class action lawsuit on previous years of the subaru forester and it is not clear or apparent that they have changed the windshield substantially enough that this issue has been resolved. it is dangerous and defective to have a windshield that has long cracks in it so frequently and consistently. my and my family's safety is at risk when it is difficult to see because of the huge cracks in the windshield, particularly at night or in inclement weather (i.e., rain storms). the problem has happened now 3 times in less than 3 years. a product that warrants so much replacement is defective in nature. i have called both the dealership and subaru usa - who said that they did know that i was not the only one having these issues. the vehicle has been expected by experts at safelite and i am taking it to the dealership for an inspection with this latest crack. but because they claim a rock hit it then i have to pay for the replacement - but when this happens with such frequency then how can the windshield not be defective? when this is not the standard for all other cars! and it is dangerous to have an unreliable windshield! no there were no warning messages.

When i applied the brake ,the vehicle suddenly accelerated and smashed into my garage

Driving down the highway and the windshield cracks and the cracks keeps getting longer.

This vehicle has approx. 45,000 miles and the electrical has failed. we have replaced the battery and tested all components in which they then operate fine. however overnight the battery fully drains, leaving us with no vehicle again. this vehicle has no accidents, maintained every 3 months and the health report even shows no issues/errors. no other symptoms have been noted. this car works and runs 100% like it did day 1 up until 3 days ago. where it has died overnight every day. luckily my husband is a mechanic as he indicated the last instance of a new battery going in, the dashboard was flashing and going haywire to the point that it wouldnt stop until he removed the battery. he indicated that its likely this would have been an electrical fire if the battery was not removed therefore could have caught on fire with myself and our 14 month old inside. there were no warnings, no alerts, no vehcile safety alerts, the mysubaru app in fact still says we have a 100% healthy vehicle.

The thermo control valve on my 2020 subaru forester is broken and needs to be replaced. i have owned the car for 2 years, am the first owner, and it has less than 19,000 miles. 90 minutes into a drive the "coolant temp low" indicator light came on. after i pulled over, turned off the engine, and turned it back on the check engine light and sport mode indicator light came on, and all adas were disabled. the coolant level was low so i refilled it and took it to the manufacturer the next morning. they inspected my car and confirmed it the thermo control valve was broken. it is still broken as i cannot afford the repair and it is available for inspection upon request. my safety was put at risk by not having access to the adas forward collision warning, emergency breaking, and lane departure.

While driving, i heard a loud pop. i thought something hit the car, but i was not close behind another vehicle or road hazard. for about 15 minutes i thought no harm, no foul. then suddenly, i saw a long, mostly horizontal crack from the bottom left and extending about 18" toward the center of the windshield. i called the subaru dealer [where i bought the car] and was quoted $910 parts and $590 labor, but they were unable to give me a service appointment date at that time. i don't feel the car is safe to drive, so i am looking for a quicker repair from an independent windshield replacement shop. at the same time, i researched subaru windshield cracks and found numerous reports of easily cracking subaru windshields. it appears that if i replace one subaru windshield with another subaru windshield, i may just be waiting for another subaru windshield crack in the future.

The thermo-valve controller gives out on this vehicle. through searches and discussions with two separate dealerships, this seems to be an incredibly common issue. it's enough that subaru has actually completely replaced the design of this piece for whenever it gets replaced. this triggers a check engine light which already removes many features on the subaru. my understanding is that this part controls and measures the engine temperature which means that drivers have no clue if their engine is overheating or not when it goes out. subaru has gotten away with covering this part over their powertrain warranty since the vast majority of their vehicles are having this part break within 3 years. most drivers are happy with this because the major ($1500-2000) repair is covered. the issue is that people that drive more often, like myself, are stuck footing the bill for a part that subaru has admitted doesn't work properly just because we've now fallen out of this 60k mileage warranty. from my research, it's not a part that is greatly affected by mileage, so much as time since the dealerships have noted that every replacement they've seen has fallen within 3 years, regardless of the mileage. for that, i'm asking that there be a true recall put in place for this part. this is a major expense for almost anyone and isn't fair for subaru to hide behind a warranty that won't apply to everyone when they know they created this improperly. even the reps at the dealership mentioned that they see this far too often for it not to be a recall, but that most people are still under 60k miles, so there aren't normally issues.

My wife was out this morning meeting friends for coffee. she gave a friend a ride home and she noticed a crack in the windshield on the drivers side. there was no indication that it was hit with a rock or anything else. i see that there was a lawsuit against subaru for defective windshields.

While driving on an interstate highway the engine suddenly lost power and various warning lights lit up on the dash, including brake, eyesight, rab. managed to limp to the shoulder without getting hit and had the car towed to the dealer, who replaced the thermo control valve assembly under warranty.

(06/22) - small pebble hits windshield and creates a "star-pattern" crack measuring 2.25 inches in diameter. booked earliest appointment for windshield replacement on tuesday 06/27. have not touched windshield and have not driven vehicle as of this day. (06/24) - waiting for windshield replacement appointment; star-pattern crack has extended aggressively overnight while parked under shaded carport (average temp 64 degrees), far beyond what is typical. as of 06/24 there are 2 long cracks extending in opposite directions measuring 9 inches above and 13 inches below original impact diameter. please note that subaru has had prior class action lawsuits filed for similar issues regarding brittle/unsafe windshields for subaru outback and forester 2016-2020 models.

My one year old is able to press the chest clip and it unlatches. so now the only thing holding him is the buckle. he has been able to undo the chest clip. while driving in traffic. this should not happen. could be terrible danger if got in a car accident.

Our thermo control valve (tcv) assembly failed and caused dangerous loss of speed and control while on the highway. subaru is fully aware of the defect in their design as they issued a service bulletin to inform their service centers of a new, fixed tcv assembly that is retaining the same part number (a notice only sent to their service centers, not to owners). please see attached. despite being aware of the defect, subaru has not voluntarily replaced the defective tcv assemblies or even bothered to notify owners. instead, they are letting us put our families and other drivers in dangerous situations through sudden loss of control. there are pages and pages of other owners experiencing this dangerous issue and - like me - being surprised to find it's a known issue that subaru is not proactively fixing (see any of the owner forums like subaruforester.org).

I was driving on a paved two lane rural route and hit a small bump in the road. immediately, my check engine light came on and all the safety features turned off. control panel showed multiple safety features off and the sport mode indicator light blinking. my car only has 17k miles on it and i have had it just over a month. i was able to drive it safely home and when i called the dealership the next morning i was told i could continue to drive it until the service appointment six days later. when i got home, my husband checked it with his cel reader and got the code for the temperature control valve (an issue known by subaru). this was confirmed by the dealership and i was told after having driven it for several days that it should not be driven. the repair is being covered under the power train warranty.

Error code (p26a3?)for - engine coolant bypass valve. causes the "check engine" light to come on and automatically disables all of the safety and collision mitigation systems. the engine coolant bypass valve failure is common and a known issue and subaru has already updated the part on newer vehicle models. the common failure of the coolant bypass valve should not be disabling the safety features and the collision avoidance systems.

While driving on the highway, the engine suddenly stopped and several warning lights appeared on dash. driver was able to coast to shoulder but could have been a bad accident. it happened again on the way to dealer service center. dealer reproduced the problem and identified it as a faulty thermo control valve. dealer fixed it under warranty. review of web reports makes this seem like a common problem with various subaru automobiles.

For the 3rd time in less than 3 years my windshield crack from a small pebble hitting it. either subaru is making very thin windshield glass, or the material used is not sufficient to suppress small pebbles and causes the windshield to crack, often. the latest crack happened july 25, 2023 in the pm with a small 1/4 inch crack, by morning it had grown to over 2 feet. it seems to me there is a design flaw here.

While driving, the 2020 forester, the check engine light, collision light, eyesight function lights all went on at the same time. i brought vehicle to check diagnostics and it is showing engine coolant bypass valve "a" control circuit low in power train system. their were no messages prior to all the lights turning on and i was able to bring into the dealer for oil change but not able to make an appointment for repair for a few days from now

Was driving at highway speeds (65 mph) and within the posted speed limit and a small, unidentifiably small object was kicked up by a car in the adjacent lane and hit the windshield, resulting in a small ding that immediately spread to a large crack across most of the windshield.

While i was traveling i stopped at a rest area and when i restarted my car, my panel lit up like a christmas tree. all my safety assist systems were disabled and my check engine light came on. when i got home i had my mechanic run the codes and it came back to the thermo control valve. this happened on 8-29-2023. i researched the problem and subaru put out a service bulletin in february 2022 but never notified me. my car is out of warranty now and am forced to drive without my safety systems because, 1- they don’t carry the part in stock and 2- the cost to repair is over $1400.00. subaru was aware of the problem but kept it quiet. i feel this is a scam and subaru should recall this part. i was warned that my car could die at any time. i bought it for those very safety systems as i am a senior citizen and rely on them now.

The car dies when it stops for a traffic stop. sometimes it starts again and and sometimes it does not. it does not do it when the air is on. people honk at you in traffic if you do not start right away. i thought there was a recall on subarus for same which is why i never bought one. the vehicle has been inspected. it also unlocks itself sometimes after i lock it.

At a stop light, auto stop/start system shuts down the vehicle engine. when the light turned green, and i lifted my foot off the brake, the engine failed to restart. the dash will lit up .. check engine light, eye sight light ... etc will come on. i had to shift to park and restart the engine. i read that low remote battery can be a problem, i replaced the remote battery but it has not resolved the issue. engine failed to restart at stop light after being shut down by auto stop/start system multiple times in last six month. only recourse is shift to park and restart the engine. this seems to be manufacture problem with auto stop/start system. it is a safety issue for me and my family having a stalled car at stop light due to engine being shut off by auto stop/start system and failed to restart until put in park and restart it.

I’ve owned my subaru forester for over a year now. about 6 months ago while getting off an exit and at a light, when i went to accelerate my car died. all lights came off and no power to vehicle. i was able to restart and drive home. called the dealer took it in and paid almost $2k for repairs. today the same thing happened on the turnpike in stopped traffic. this could have been a bad accident.

Thermo control valve is the issue according to subaru. this is apparently an issue as a quick google search took me to many forums of other owners/drivers experiencing the same issue. for me, i was stopped at a red light and my car performed an automatic engine off like normal, and as the light turned green i took my foot off the brake and went to press the gas but my car fully shut off and gave me several warnings that all of the systems were offline. i had to put it in park and try to turn it off and on again to get it going, but it was incredibly stressful for my car to lock up like that on a busy road. this valve causes errors that turn off all the safety features in the car which sounds like a huge issue.

I have had three cracked windshields within 4 years of driving and 30,000 miles

Unintentional acceleration. after making right turn, vehicle accelerated for approx 1/2 mile until crashing into wall. several attempts at braking and trying to shift into neutral did nothing.

Engine check light came on and after running a test it seemed as though the thermo control valve thermostat was not working properly which means the valve that lets coolant into the engine doesn't know what the temp is and when to release coolant. that ended up being the issue and we were barely under the 60k mile warranty for the powertrain so it was covered but i've been reading that it is a common issue and others are surprised it hadn't been recalled yet as it could cause the engine to overheat. the part is so defective that subaru has already designed a better part which means they know its a common issue.

Daughter was driving vehicle on the morning of september 15, 2023, when smoke came from under hood. immediately pulled over and engine was engulfed in flames. got out of vehicle and moved a safe distance away as glass started to break and fire department arrived on scene. picked up vehicle on september 12, 2023, after having the thermal control valve replaced (warranty) but after doing research there are other components that also had to be replaced (fuel line, etc) as part of this repair. noticed there have been other vehicles with recall due to thermal control valve just nothing on the subaru forester. completely traumatized as the vehicle was gone in a little over 3 minutes. have been in contact with subaru but no resolution on what they believe caused the car to catch on fire. did authorize them to get “black box” on september 29, 2023.

The thermo control valve malfunctioned causing the check engine light to come on which shut down all the safety features in the vehicle including the front eye sight camera, blind spot warning, the rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assistance.

Woke up to a large cracked windshield for no reason

While driving, most of the dash errors lights lit up- alerting me that the eyesight warning, rab ( reverse auto braking) and other safety functions were disabled. the check engine light was on and a flashing s next to it. cold engine light was illuminated as well. dealer diagnosed with a faulty thermal control valve, which somehow disabled all safety features. this is a common failure of subarus and a recall is needed.

41k miles p26a3 p26a5 ****eyesight disabled*** ***forward collision disabled *** failed tcv and dealer will not cover because warranty period is over.

Windshield spontaneously cracked from the base into the wiper area. there was no previously known damage. this impacts driver visibility and weakens the windshield. i have not had the windshield inspected by another party and did not observe any warnings. i have since learned online that this is an ongoing issue with some subaru windshields.

The thermo control valve failed at 33,945 miles. because of this, the heater, eye sight, cruise control, lane assist, and collision brake did not work. the engine was then only running at "sport" mode. it did not regulate the heat to the oil and could've caused sludge. the problem was confirmed by a subaru dealer service shop. i only noticed this problem when the blue thermometer light came on the dash board. usually i wait about 5 min and once the car is warmed up the light goes away. this time the blue thermometer warning light did not turn off and stayed on for the remainder of the trip. when the car was restarted on the same day the engine check light came on. eye sight, lane assist and collision assist lights were on.

When the vehicle comes to a stop light or a stop in traffic and the engine turns off the vehicle will stall. it then leaves me sitting in traffic trying to restart my vehicle thus leaving me in an unsafe situation. this happens more often than not.

Check engine light came on, low temp light stays on, eyesight disabled, lane departure, emergency breaking, etc have all been disabled due to the issue. i took it to the local autobody shop and they found code p0128 | coolant thermostat issue. this has caused all safety features to become disabled as mentioned above. i was told by the local shop that i need to go to the dealership. i have not brought it to the dealership yet however, after looking online i found that this is a common issue with this make and model vehicle however, nothing has been done by subaru to recall the component. i am going to bring the car to a dealership however, i'm upset that subaru hasn't acted on the information that they have a faulty component in this vehicle. i am very concerned with cost of repairs since i am being forced to go to the dealer.

Since purchasing my vehicle in june of 2020, i have replaced the windshield every 6-7 months for spontaneously cracking. in april of 2023 i filed a claim with subaru of america and was instructed to make an insurance claim and my deductible would be reimbursed. as of december 1, 2023 my windshield has cracked yet again. i have had a windshield inspection done every time it has been replace, no defects or rock chips were identified. this will be the 6th windshield i have had replaced.

Vehicle continuously suffers a total loss of power (engine shuts off) while driving, creating obvious hazard to the user of the car and other drivers. this continues to happen without warning and often while driving through intersections and other dangerous situations. no warning lights precede these events. we brought the vehicle to the subaru dealership and, after testing/diagnosing the problem, they informed us the vehicle needs a larger battery (which also requires installation of a larger battery tray) than the one that came equipped with the vehicle from the manufacturer. no aftermarket modifications have been made to the battery or electrical systems and the current battery is the size and type recommended by subaru in the owner’s manual; the dealership, however, advises that that battery is insufficient and needs to be changed for a larger-sized battery.

My vehicle has repeatedly required being jump-started after sitting for a period of time. recently it has become a safety issue because the engine is designed to turn off at times in order to traffic to improve fuel efficiency. after research, subaru has a known issue with the dcm system used to power the optional (subscription based) starlink system. this system uses 3g signals to provide emergency assistance; however 3g signal has been decommissioned and the system is unable to connect to a tower and never stops trying. this creates a parasitic drain on the battery that can (and has) prevents the car from being able to restart from a stopped position.

The thermo control valve (tcv) went bad at 54,000 miles. the result is that none of the safety features work anymore. collision detection, eye-sight, lane change warnings, anti-skid, etc. all go offline when the tcv goes out. we can drive the car but it now has no safety features.

There is a crack on the left lower part of the windshield. it’s the 3rd crack requiring a windshield replacement and it only has 21,110 miles on it

When i am idling at a stop sign or sitting in traffic and i have come to a full stop, the car's engine shuts down as a gas-saving feature. this is not the problem! the problem is that sometimes when this feature engages, when i lift my foot off the brake to start driving again, a shrill constant ringing sound starts and the engine won't power back on. there is an error message that comes on that says "eyesight disabled." when this happens, none of these factors (the ringing, the error message, the dead engine) stop until i put the car in park and power it down completely, then restart the engine. then none of the symptoms are there anymore and the car drives normally. i have not noticed any consistency about when this problem does or does not happen - it occurs in all weather types, temperatures, times of day, slopes/flat roads. i sometimes go months without it happening, and other times it happens twice in several days. the only consistent thing is that it only happens when the car is at a full stop and the engine has shuddered off to save gas. i live in chicago and almost exclusively drive short distances in the city, i hardly do any highway driving. this has happened maybe 20 times since i bought the car in february, 2023.

Got warning p2a63 that the thermo control valve is shot around 63k miles. apparently this is happening very often in subaru's made between 2019 and 2022.

Driving my 2020 subaru forrester on 1/26/24, at night. stopped at traffic light. car started shaking, dash lights system lights came on. turned off car and restarted. car would not accelerate. had towed to mechanic. diagnosed as probable thermo regulator. could not repair because part only available from subaru. called dealer who was not sympathetic or helpful. told to bring in and leave. would get to it when they could.

I started the car to make a trip to town to run some errands. when i cranked the engine the check engine light came on. the s for sport mode was flashing and a no eyesight warning came on. also srs side airbag light came on to indicate it was not working. and another light came on showing a car going out of its lane, but i don't know if it was the lane keep assist light or not.

My thermo value went bad on my 2020 forrester with no symptoms or warning causing me to become stranded in the middle of an extremely busy road. this is seemingly known problem and i'm unsure why subaru has not been more proactive with this knowledge, not allowing others to end up in the same dangerous situation i was left in. also, even after having the thermo value replaced, i have no way of knowing if any permanent damage was caused to my engine.

The thermal control valve stopped working. the car has <50k miles on it. the error also results in many/all of the safety systems being deactivated (no adaptive cruise control, no lane centering, no rear braking, etc.)

1-16-24:car wouldn’t open and start; jump-started by aaa to dealer; dealer kept overnight & checked battery: said charge held, ready to go home. 1-30-24, 4 pm-ish: able to start n drive, but check engine& eyesight warning light came on- late in day, so didn’t drive to dealer. 1-31-24: car dead; jump-started by aaa again & drove to dealer. on 2-1-24, dealer sends a video & says replaced battery, but check engine light & eye sight warning light still on; investigated further & found there was a lot of water that had pooled under the passenger seat & caused some corrosion- i.e.: shorted out electrical system. i asked dealer to report to subaru since this seemed like a car defect. 2-9-24- dealer says subaru won’t repair it at their expense and it’s a 25 hour job & will cost a lot. dealer wanted me to file a claim with my insurance, but car was not driven through rain, high water, or stored in a flooded garage or on a flooded street. the water in the car seems like a design defect on the part of subaru.

I was driving to work and i was on the freeway and all of a sudden without a rock hitting my windshield, it started to crack. it might go bigger if i drive more and right now it is longer than 6 inches.

On 11/18/2023, as soon as i started the vehicle, put it in reverse and let off the brake to back down the driveway, the car made a loud unfamiliar noise (like bzzzzzt) and suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated on its own. nothing worked, brakes, automatic gear shift, gas pedal, and steering were all disengaged. it was terrifying to me and i was worried about anyone or anything behind me. at the street corner the car turned somehow (i was trying to steer, but the vehicle was jostling wildly and the steering, brakes didn't work at all), ran over a high curb, knocked over a street sign, and took out the neighbor’s sprinkler system, and then came to a stop, dead!

Windshield cracked. during a week of sub-freezing temperatures in january, the windshield cracked from the base of the windshield to the to the center point of the windshield (see photo submitted). note: the windshield had had a very minor chip in it at the base of the windshield before the crack occurred.

On sunday, [xxx] we were traveling in our 2020 subaru forester on a trip from minnesota to florida for a vacation. not long into cross country trip we found ourselves stranded on the side of the highway uncertain about the ability of our vehicle to continue to due to a defective thermo control valve failure. about 200 miles into our trip, while driving at highway speeds south of rochester, mn the dashboard lit up. the check engine light was on, and other safety features were lit up on the dash as disabled (eye-sight technology, lane assist, automatic vehicle collision braking). the heat would not work after this incident. we checked the owners manual, and then drove to an auto-parts store to have a scan done to determine the error code. the code "p26a3 - engine coolant bypass valve a range/performance" was indicated. in checking online we discovered that a thermo control valve replacement was needed asap and to continue driving the vehicle could risk severe engine damage. since it was a sunday, and we were essentially stranded if we couldn't use the vehicle. we continued on, stopping and checking the engine periodically for overheating. we were able to get an appointment at lou fusz subaru in st. peters, mo on monday afternoon and they replaced the thermo control valve at a cost of $1,961.51. we were told that this wasn't under warranty due to the mileage on the vehicle (76,358 miles). in researching this issue online, we found that the thermo control valve failure to be a common issue and certain year/model vehicles and subaru should have recalled this part a long time ago (in our opinion). information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I stopped at a red light. the car's auto shutoff feature turned the car off for the fuel savings. when the light turned green and i went to go, the car tried to start and failed. i had to put it in park and start the car manually.

The thermal control valve failed on my car and it’s only 3 years old. this is a common issue and is widely known within the forums. subaru should recall these valves as they are failing prematurely.

I was at a red light when the engine shut off and the check engine and several other warning lights came on. after multiple tries i was finally able to restart the vehicle and drive it off the road. after taking it to the dealership the confirmed issue is the thermal control valve. the dealership is requesting about $1600 to replace the faulty part.

The thermo control valve failed causing the coolant to run at full and not allowing the engine to reach proper temperature and the heating system to not provide heat, also it caused multiple safety systems to turn off including eye sight, emergency braking, rear auto brake, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, traction control. the failure of this unit is a known issue to subaru per their own service bulletin 09-80-21, while mine was not covered by subaru's own warranty due to the mileage this vehicle is less than 5 years old, the repair costs will be $2000.00+ as quoted by the dealer.

Thermo control sensor failed which will damage the motor if overheating dealer says it's going to cost me $1500 and it isn't covered under drivetrain warranty which is 5 years 60000 miles i have 27000 miles

The thermo control valve is faulty and renders the vehicle non-operative. there have been numerous instances in subaru foresters in the same make and year.

The thermo control valve on vehicle failed on 2020 subaru forester which is causing vehicle to loose acceleration, multiple errors codes displaying on the vehicle instrument dash panel and no heat in the vehicle (see attached photo for reference). the failure of this device could cause a vehicle fire depending on what position/ and or state the thermo valve failed in. there needs to be a manufacturer recall on this particular part as there is numerous amounts of complaints and issues. subaru needs to make it right with the customer. we need to drive safe vehicles on the road.

Fourth windshield crack in 4 years. enough. please do a recall of this model.

I purchased a 2020 subaru forester in 2020. last week, the check engine light came on and it was due to the thermo control valve that need replaced. my car was outside of warranty at 70k miles and subaru’s customer advocacy office will not reimburse despite this being a faulty defect for many 2018-21 foresters. there is a class action lawsuit filed but i’m still out $1900. there should be a recall and i should not be paying for this manufacturer defect.

The windshield developed a spontaneous crack, starting at the base of the right passenger windshield wiper and traveling in a line up toward the middle in a slanted line. there is no spike, no rock hit, nothing to have caused this. i believe it is a stress fracture as reported by others who have subarus with eyesight technology. i have an appointment with the subaru dealer tomorrow morning. this appeared suddenly and must have happened overnight as it was not there yesterday but it was there when i got into the car this morning. the car was parked overnight.

While driving temperature light, check engine light, all adas lights came on as inoperable (cameras, warning, abs, bsd/rcta), no heat (including defrost) available to defrost or for cabin. appointment 3/13 replaced thermo control valve assembly , coolant bypass valve, intake gaskets, fuel line, coolant, total charges $2070. luckily had extended warranty i bought, that i had to make a claim on. dangerous to drive (no camera based safety features available, no defrost for the snowy weather, no emergency braking or other collision safety features on, this affected the entire 'eyesight' system). the engine also had no thermo control regulation during this time, affecting not just then, but possible future performance and early aging due to disregulation.

I was driving to work and many of my warning lights suddenly came on. this includes my check engine light, my lane assist light, my auto collision braking, my eye sight disabled and my cool engine light keeps going on and off. my cabin heating also isn’t working. there is no reason for this happening other than my thermo control valve failing.

Multiple dashboard lights are on including starlink, eyesight, check engine, thermostat, and a blinking s. a quick google search shows that this exact combination is a known issue. safety concern is that all the accident prevention systems are down leaving me at risk.

The thermo valve leaked into connector, causing engine to shut down abruptly to prevent overheating. this happened at 70 mph on interstate highway in traffic. part was replaced with modified thermo valve later. barely able to coast to narrow shoulder flanked by deep ditch, with vehicle very close to interstate traffic, so much so that exit from vehicle ill-advised. after towing, vehicle was serviced by subaru dealer. at time of part failure many warning lights & messages appeared, but not before the event.

I bought a 2020 subaru in march of 2020. i had reported an issue with the seat to the dealer orange coast subaru and they had failed to diagnose or repair the issue. the issue was brought up to them several times and they only came to the car and looked quickly at the seat and told me it is fine without any in debt diagnostics. looking and sitting in a seat wasn't in any shape or form diagnostics of the seat. nobody looked under the seat or did a inspection beyond just looking and seating on it. over the years the seat became woobly, unstable, it has cracked. i went for another issue to another dealer this time, timmons of long beach, and paid a diagnostics fee to be told the frame needs to be replaced and it is a safety issue and has to be done asap. i had reached out to subaru who advised the car is out of warranty. i pointed back to that the issue was reported to them and they said if it was not diagnosed as a failure then then it is unrelated to the issue found now. the seat is unsafe and it can result to injuries to myself and my son. subaru doesn't want to take responsibility for it. the car has never been in an accident.

A crack in my windshield appeared during the 15 minutes my 2020 subaru forester was in parking lot while i was in a store. the ambient temperature was in the 70's, the car was facing away from the sun, and the windows were ventilating the inside. the crack starts at the passenger corner in the area of the defroster and runs all the way from the weatherstripping at an angle and length that it is directly in the field of view of the passenger. on a few occasions while driving since the incident i have heard expansion type crack sounds.

2020 subaru forester just had a check engine light appear. the engine malfunction code is p26a3, which is a defective thermostatic control valve. this malfunction also affects the vehicle manufacturers advanced driver assitance systems such as: "eyesight" blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, etc. vehicle only has 51,000 miles on it.

On monday, 5/13/24, i got in my car and there was a crack across the windshield that was not there earlier in the day. it seems to have spontaneously cracked for no known reason.

In a three year period i have had to replace my windshield for cracks causing visibility issues. each of these cracks have appeared for no apparent reason.

Collided with a deer that was running across the freeway. driving legal speed. impact to front driver's side. impact seemed relatively minor. no passenger injury. odd that the airbags didn't deploy. able to coast to the shoulder. steam coming from radiator. that dissipated quickly. had my sister call 911. took pics of the front as well as the deer fur stuck to the car. about 2 minutes went by and i returned to the front to assess the extent of the damage. car totaled. as i was assessing, i noted flames starting at the engine compartment firewall, almost directly centered between right and left sides. vehicle eventually became fully engulfed. seems like that fire shouldn't have started a full 5 minutes after the engine had been shut off. advised to report by state farm as the loss prevention person also thought it was unusual, as did osp and fire. said they'd never seen a car burst into flames after a deer strike.

Check engine, forward collision warning, flashing "s"drive, no eyesight, automatic emergency braking warning lights, all came on at once and staying on. possible thermo control valve issue - needs a recall!

I picked-up my new 2020 subaru forester on january 2, 2020. within two years the battery became too weak to start the engine. since then, i've had to repeatedly charge the battery. now a battery maintainer is constantly connected to the battery. i've seen online reports that multiple late model subarus have had battery issues, and that subaru of america voluntarily replaced batteries and addressed related electrical issues for some of its customers. subaru of america has all of my contact information, but i was never informed of their voluntary fix of the battery issue. due to the fact that i wasn't contacted about the battery failure issue, do i now have any recourse? many late model subarus have an automatic engine stop/start feature. i've read reports of subarus not restarting in traffic, i therefore do not feel safe driving my 2020 subaru forester. why didn't this dangerous problem trigger an nhtsa recall?

Within one month the same thing happened. i turn on the car and the eyesight warning light is on (eyesight feature disabled), flashing "s" drive is on, "break" light is on, and check engine light is on. due to this cruise control isn't working. my plan was to take it to a mechanic/dealership that monday. by monday morning, after about 15 minutes of driving, all warning signs disappeared. this exact thing happened a few weeks later (this morning). i started googling issues and seems like this is an issue for many customers and is just a malfunctioning thermo control valve, no actual problem. what do i do about this? this is much less important - but also seems like a quality issue, at drivers side, the seat cover is starting to crack, looking like this is car is over 10 years old, we've had it for less than 4 years and this shouldn't be happening on a car of this caliber. photos attached

P2682 engine overheating and engine gauge flashing red due to a recall related to the engine coolant bypass valve. the vehicle stopped and required a tow for $417 to the nearest subaru dealership to repair. after towing to the dealership they charged 31% of parts to labor and would not eliminate or discount the invoice.

Eyesight pre-collision braking feature and pre-collision throttle management feature malfunctioned and caused the 2020 forester to accelerate unexpectedly and lurch forward while i was manually braking and slowing to come to a complete stop behind two other vehicles stopped at a steady red light. see class action lawsuit weston, et al. v. subaru of america, inc., et al. in us district court case no. [xxx] which alleges that the vehicle contains certain defects that caused sudden and unintended acceleration without driver input; acceleration while manually braking; and that these defects created a safety risk, because they severely affected the driver's ability to control the car's speed, acceleration, and deceleration, and increase the risk of a collision, which did in fact occur. the defective car was completely totaled and towed to a salvage yard by the police and the insurance company. defect malfunction caused a collision which resulted in property damage and personal injury to three vehicles and three people. i mentioned the defect to my insurance company at the time of the accident. i do not know if they chose to follow up and inspect the vehicle. the problem occurred twice before ( not resulting in property damage or injury) and i took it to my subaru dealer both times and they claim that they could not find anything wrong, but oddly did not note that they checked for the problem which i brought to their attention on the written summary/invoice for my service visit. see the class action lawsuit- this is apparently the typical dealer non-response to the problem. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

A week after my routine oil changed at 31k, the check engine light along with flashing "s" pop up. the next day the check engine disappeared. i was some what happy and continue to drive car as normal for 2 days, then check engine light came back again and this time is staying for good. i just can't believed that 4 years old car is having this issue. i've owned so many cars prior to this 2020 subaru forester, never once that those cars have problems like this one. i feel that i'm at risk driving without no eyesight or collision prevention warning.. when the check engine comes on, those two things are disable. after a long research and reading about so many people with same issues, i feel that they should be a recalling to fix the thermal valve control.

Subaru of america is aware of the problem which impacts several models and model years, see subaru service bulletin 16-132-20r. transmission slippage and bounce feel during acceleration. can be strong enough at times to visually see occupants moving with momentum/bounce at times. could contribute to vehicle not maintaining/reducing/responding to speed control systems, failure of transmission components, stranding occupants, and other similar hazards that come with the mechanical failure of a transmission. has caused slowing of acceleration which impacted surrounding traffic on a few occasions. vehicle is scheduled to be inspected by manufacture dealership on morning of 08/27/24.

The head unit suddenly stopped working. it unfortunately isn’t covered under warranty. the screen consistently turns on and off.

Stopped at a red light at busy intersection. the auto stop/start was enabled and activated when stopped at the light. when the light turned green, tried to go, but the as/s system failed. a “no eyesight” warning flashed and disappeared; various symbol lights blinked. car would not start. driver activated hazard lights, which flashed for no longer than three to five minutes before stopping completely. while car was stalled in traffic, a few lights continued to blink on the dash.

The auto stop start feature on the car drains the battery and alternator too much. it shouldn’t be forced on consumers. if it was a feature i wanted to use i should have the option of turning it on not be forced to always turn it off since i don’t use it. the alternator has already been replaced under warranty due to this feature. between that and the dealership saying it would be over $700 to replace the battery is ridiculous. today the car died while at a stop and the battery is needing to be replaced.

Defective thermostatic control valve- this part needs to be recalled. manufacturer has extended the warranty on the part, so it was free to replace. otherwise, it's a $1600 part. i'm thankful they covered the price, but upset that this known issue is preventable and they've been letting people continue to be put in danger for four years now?! incident 1) i was driving 45 mph on a busy street when the car bucked & all engine lights turned on (not helpful to pinpoint a problem) eyesight turned off (when i needed it most.) the car was worse than dead. i was desperate to get to the shoulder, so i slammed on the emergency lights. horrified, i realized turning the wheel did almost nothing. i had to lean on the steering wheel to get to the shoulder. when i applied gas it would choppily accelerate, so instead i let the car coast. since i had no gas, i was stuck in the middle of a side road. i put it in park and turned it off. someone started walking up from the bad neighborhood, wanted me to get out so he could push the car. i said no, but it took a few minutes to talk him into leaving through the glass of my window. but, this time when i started it up the dash warning lights were off incident 2) between oct& nov 2024 intermittently all the dash lights turned on, no cruise control or eyesight. resolved on its own. no engine trouble acompanied these. incident 3) nov 5th, 2024. i started my car, warmed it up, and drove for about 3 minute's when all the dashlights lit up, eyesight failed, and the whole engine acted like it was on choppy seas. this was at night in a rural area and i was barely able to guide the car to the right shoulder because the accelerator was not working at all. ended up slashing up my tire and ruining my rim on the shoulder of the road since the car was barely maneuverable. i could have been killed or in an accident - where is the recall on this part?? mileage at total failure : 46,434

The automatic rear liftgate opens all the way, then closes automatically on your head/back. this has been happening with my car for over a year. when it started, it was occasional, but now it happens nearly every time. when it closes, it does so with considerable force, and has knocked me over twice. one time it hit my head just right and i came close to losing consciousness. i have taken it to subaru and they said it wasn't an issue. they just reset the liftgate trim height, but that only fixed it for 2 closes. then it started again. there are many reports of this issue online, and others note that it is a safety concern as well. others have reported that replacing the liftgate struts and/or the entire liftgate mechanism resolved the problem.

Subaru forester engine stalls at an intersection due to auto start stop feature of subaru to save fuel, except that this is the second time when engine is idling it lowers the revs and then it stalls when trying to auto start engine; first time the dealer said is battery issue, i replaced the battery at my cost, and this is the second time. it is dangerous because there are oncoming traffic and i have only a split second to turn on my flashing lights. this is a brand new battery install on 9/2024.

My car completely lost power. i had driven to the stop light and was waiting when it lost power. it had no power for several minutes and was unresponsive to the ignition or anything else.

"check engine" light along with "eye sight" appeared suddenly on nov. 22, 2024. all safety systems along with cruise control became inoperable. took car to subaru dealer and it was confirmed to be the catalytic converter. my vin is covered under extended warranty, but i was never notified of this. plus, now repairs are of an emergency nature. also, i do a lot of driving including on the nj turnpike, i-95, etc., and while i am awaiting car to be repaired, i have no safety features to rely on--which was one of the reasons i bought a subaru. they will not pay for a courtesy car loan. another issue is the thermo control valve. i was notified that i have an extended warranty for this, but part has to fail before subaru will make repairs. once again this becomes an emergency repair situation instead of a proactive one.

Automated lift gate opened fully, and then immediately closed without warning upon a person who was trying to access the back, nearly causing injury. it is unknown what precisely is failing within the lift gate and it is available for review. the automated lift gate can close on a person unexpectedly potentially causing injury. this has been reproduced as was "fixed" by the dealer but then reappeared only a month later with the same issue. the vehicle was not inspected by anyone but the dealer's service representatives. there was a soft beep emitted as it came down but the behavior was completely unexpected. there were no warning lamps or other information as to something was non-functional, only the soft beep as the lift-gate fully opened, then automatically fully shut right after.

My forester just totally shuts down sometimes from the auto start feature in traffic or intersections . errors come up . the wheel locks and i must put the car in park , turn it off and turn it back on. very scary and very dangerous.

The passenger seat airbag sensor does not activate all the time. my girlfriend weighs [xxx]. when she sits in the passenger seat, it only activates the sensor approx 50% of the time. i took it to subaru, they indicated the sensor was working properly, and their resolution to the issue was for her to weight at least 120 pounds !!! i have that in writing on the repair ticket from dreyer reinbold subaru greenwood indiana. i took my complaint to subaru, and after repeated follow up phone calls, i was informed that in subaru's owners manual, it stipulates that the individual must meet certain criteria in order to activate the passenger seat sensor. i have yet to find that reference. so, does subaru inform every potential buyer of the fact that individuals seated in the passenger seat must meet the 120 pound minimum weight to activate the airbag sensor to keep them safe ? i bet not. thank you for your consideration to helping me keep any passenger in my 2020 subaru safe, and for countless others that may have have this issue but never check to insure the airbag becomes activated. i have seen recalls for 2020 outback & legacy for the same issue with the passenger seat sensor, is it possible some foresters have the same sensor? Periodically, the vehicle stalls at stop lights, stop signs, and in other situations when coming to a complete stop. once the vehicle comes to a complete stop and turns off due to the auto-stop/start function, it stalls immediately after the car re-starts and you press the gas pedal. this leaves the vehicle stalled in intersections and in potentially dangerous conditions. you must engage park and restart the vehicle while stopped in the middle of traffic, which poses a significant safety risk. i believe this issue is related to the auto-stop/start functionality. the vehicle has been inspected by a subaru dealer several times, but they claim they cannot reproduce the problem and there are no diagnostic codes or warning lights. no other mechanic has inspected the vehicle.

Upon exiting freeway, all lights on car came on including brake light. when placed in park, the engine would rev. if placed in drive, car would drive without gas given. car towed to subaru dealership and diagnosed with thermo control valve defect which seems to be a known widespread issue. thankfully i was located close to a subaru dealership however if not, this could cause others to be stranded. given this widespread issue, a recall should occur to fix this issue.

Unknown or auto stop-start on two occasions when i stopped at a red light (auto stop-start activated) the car stalled out when i hit the gas. there was a warning message that alerted on the dash as well as flashing lights and beeping. the only way to restart my car was to put it in park, turn it off, then turn it back on. these were both at heavily used intersections and i had to use my emergency lights to try prevent being rear-ended and both times i have struggled to quickly resolve the issue which caused danger to others as well. my car has been serviced and inspected in the last 2 months so i am unsure the cause. i had received no alerts or warnings on my car prior to these instances and assumed the first instance was a fluke. i have scheduled a service with a subaru dealer in the near future.

I am writing to express serious concerns about the auto start-stop feature, which poses a significant safety risk when it causes shutdowns in critical situations. recently, my vehicle shut off due to auto start-stop while in the express lane of a highway. a depleted battery prevented it from restarting, leaving me stranded without the ability to shift to neutral or activate brake lights and hazard signals. for 30 minutes, i was stuck in a vulnerable position, forcing high-speed traffic to swerve dangerously close to my vehicle. while the battery issue was a factor, the car would have remained running had i been able to turn it off manually once parked. reports from other drivers indicate similar issues, including stalling, hesitation, and complete system failures. given these risks, i urge the nhtsa to investigate this feature and require manufacturers to provide a permanent disable option rather than a temporary one that resets.

Good evening. my claim number for reported issues to suburu usa is [xxx]. issue; on 5 or 6 occasions our 2020 suburu forester vehicle stalled while we were driving it. the stall has happened both when we are stopped at a traffic light or slowing down for traffic or a traffic light or in one case, at a drive through. this is a safety issue as when we start to drive; the vehicle shuts down and the steering wheel locks up along with all dashboard lights coming on. also, on at least 2 occasions a message came up to restart the car for our safety. other cars around us were moving or had to wait for us which creates anger towards us and danger for other drivers if they try to drive around us. the issue has been ongoing since approximately july 2024. i am not able to add a mph range below, but generally we are traveling 0-10 mph because we are usually braking or going from stop (at a light) and then trying to drive when the stall happens. the vehicle has been brought to xxxx xxxx in hanover, massachusetts each time and thus far, they have not been able to resolve the issue. tonight, we dropped the vehicle off again due to the most recent stall that happened on saturday [xxx] i have brought this to suburu usa’s attention and other than the dealership trying to find the issue, not much has been done that i know of. i am hoping your office can inquire with suburu because it is either an issue specific to our vehicle, or if not, there may be other suburus stalling out there which can lead to serious situations for other drivers. i feel compelled to report this because if there is a wider issue, it should be reviewed to protect others, information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Numerous times when using the "gas saving feature" when the engine stops after the brake is pressed, the car has stalled and i have had no control over the vehicle. i have had to turn on my emergency flashers and restart my car in order for it to move again. luckily whenever it has happened for me i have been stopped on a flat surface, and not on a hill, but if this ever happened while i was trying to turn i would be t-boned, or if it ever happened while i was stopped on a hill i would roll backwards. this also increases the chances of me being rear ended, because the person behind me has to be paying attention that my car has stalled. my apple car play has also not worked since i purchased the vehicle in 2020. their only suggestion was that i needed to swap out my iphone cord every few months, and then it may or may not work. also what if i was not an apple user?

In april 2022 after owning the car for 4 weeks the eyesight went out. i was told it was due to the thermal control module. that was replaced. i’m n june 2023 the ac went out. they said it was the blower motor. that was replaced. in september 2023 the ac went out again. at that point they found the cause was actually a fully melted fuse box and fuses. they replaced the fusebox and the entire ac system. i have had 3 batteries in the vehicle since march 2022. in december 2024 they found that my car needed an update and the update friend the transmission controls module. then the starter went out at the same time. after that was fixed a week later all the lights in my dash came on and there were no safety features running in the vehicle. i reach out to subaru and i was told this was all normal wear and tear in the vehicle and it just happens. a melted fuse box and safely features just randomly dying on a 4.5 year old car goes deeper than that. there has been almost $12000 in repaired performed on this car and the ones remaining are undiagnosed as they have never seen the codes before. this is a mush larger issue and subaru refuses to do anything.

Multiple dead batteries over past year. when rear lift gate is left open for less then an hour with all lights including interior off it drains battery. 2019 lift gate module recalled due to “dark draw” but didn’t include earlier 2020 models which did not have new module incorporated yet. please investigate to include the early 2020 models in recall. this is happening to many people and is a hazard to be left stranded over such an easy fix that has already been incorporated in the 2019 models with the recall ... my car is in that “grey area” only cause it is not a 2019 but before the fix was addressed on the 2020 year.

1in to 2ft long cracks are being created across the windshield at the slightest impact of any small pebbles. windshield is extremely easily compromised. vehicle was in motion on the highway when a small pebble hit the windshield, instantly creating a 2ft long crack across it. the second occurrence was also on the highway while in motion, when another small pebble impacted the windshield, instantly creating a 1 inch crack.

Both my wife and i have run out of gas on this vehicle which has less than 5,000 miles on it. the low gas indicator is limited to a brief warning in the screen behind the steering wheel. we both find this very easy to miss and there is no persistent visual or auditory warning. running out of gas unexpectedly is an extreme safety hazard, we were lucky to avoid being rear ended, but had to park at some risk. neither of us can recall running out of gas in our other vehicles for over 20 years.

Giant crack has appeared on windshield less that 12k miles of driving. there is a small chip from a few days ago that has formed into a larger crack.

Windshield cracked, started below wiper in the middle of glass, crack about 8 inches perpendicular to the hood. the vehicle was moving about 20 miles per hour in the rain turned on defroster and saw the crack.

My windshield cracked. no apparent chips, or dings. seems to come from the defrost area of the windshield under the rubber gasket.

I travelled to work and the windshield formed a crack on the upper left side of the windshield (driver's side). it starts at the corner and proceeds (so far) to be 1.5 feet long. there were no oncoming vehicles or vehicles that i was following. it was a left hand turn, low speed.

On september 26, 2020, my 2020 subaru forester windshield was hit by some very small object that hardly made a sound when it struck. the result was a very small crack about an inch long. i had this repaired by safelite mobile service on sept. 30 on april 6, 2021 as the car was being driven in town, an approximately 15 inch crack appeared on the windshield. this crack runs from the very bottom of the windshield up through the repaired "chip" mentioned above and on for another 12 inches or so. there was nothing to strike the windshield this day. i contacted the ramsey subaru dealership where i purchased the car and was told because there was that initial chip, the subaru warranty would not cover the cracked windshield. i contacted the safelite office nearest me that had repaired the chip in september and they scheduled me to have the windshield replaced on monday, april 12 at 12:30 pm. i did phone the dealership on friday, april 9 to speak to someone about this situation. after several attempts with no one answering the phone, i left a message to contact me. i have not yet received a response of any kind. i plan to visit the dealership monday morning april 12 to appeal my oral decision. if i am successful in that, i will amend this report.

Windshield literally cracked from one side to the middle from a small pebble (the first pebble i’ve had hit the windshield). i just got this car, barely even broken in at 7,000 miles. the safety features from eyesight don’t work properly after this which poses a major safety issue.

A small, approximately 3" crack appeared on lower driver side of windshield with no apparent impact at that time. vehicle was parked and the cracked was noticed in the evening. contacted subaru who directed to take the vehicle to a dealer for evaluation. while waiting for evaluation (several weeks), the crack continued to grow to approximately 18". subaru determined an impact caused the crack, though the only possible impact site was approximately 1/16" in diameter. vehicle was purchased one month prior.

I received a chip in the windshield my 2020 subaru forester on october 8, 2020. it occurred while driving on the interstate. it appeared suddenly in my field of view but i didn't see or experience anything that could have impacted the windshield or caused the chip. a professional windshield repair company attempted to repair the chip the next day, but in the process, caused a large crack to spread across the windshield. the windshield was then replaced at a subaru dealership on 10/28/20. i have attached a document of the windshield replacement work done. on 12/22/20 a chip appeared on the new windshield while driving on the interstate. then on 3/7/20 a large crack in a different location appeared and spread across my field of view. i have attached photos of the chip and the large crack on the newly replaced windshield. i will now need to replace the windshield a second time. this will be my 3rd windshield on this vehicle and it is only 1 year old. even with a new windshield, from my experience so far, the chances of my field of view being impacted suddenly by chips and cracks while driving is very high. the cause of the cracks appears to be defective glass used by subaru for the windshield.

Very small object hit windshield near edge of windshield where black coat and clear glass meet. a roughly 12" crack immediately appeared. i was driving on a tollway when the object hit the glass.

Chips/cracks in window. multiple small chips from pebbles/debris/salt from salt trucks. a dime sized crack that had to be sealed and fixed. i don’t have the exact date on hand but it was covered through geico insurance and fixed through auto safe glass repairs

I was driving up an empty suburban road at 25 mph when the brakes suddenly went off, causing the car to skid to a stop. the dashboard screen said the pre-collision emergency braking system was activated. there was nothing in the road and no reason for the car to stop suddenly. thank god i wasn't on the highway - this is extremely dangerous.

Windshield just cracked down the middle out of the blue. while driving to work in the morning an on coming light reflected of my windshield oddly. i looked at it closer at a stop to see a crack starting from the top of the glass going right down the middle of the eyesight cameras.

I purchased the vehicle new approximately six months ago and within the first 4,000 miles or so when driving the vehicle upon a highway with no one in front of me at approximately 55mph, i heard a light crack against the windshield. upon observation of the windshield, i observed a very small chip. within one day after, the chip began to "spider" crack in different directions across the windshield. when at the car dealership in which i purchased my vehicle, gurley leep subaru in the south bend/mishawaka, indiana area, they looked at the windshield and gave a proposal of estimated cost of $1,500 to replace the windshield. i then contacted my state farm insurance agent who advised subaru had a current "class action lawsuit" against them for defective windshields that chip or crack easily. state farm also advised they have seen numerous subaru vehicle customers making claims of cracked windshields that need to be replaced. if there is an issue of defective subaru windshields, then subaru should be responsible for the replacement of defective windshield.

Windshield cracked with just a small rock hitting it. there is now another crack on the other side of the windshield and i have no idea when it got there. the windshield sounds very brittle when the smallest thing hits it. the windshields are defective, i have friends that have the same problem. i have the eyesight technology, so replaceent is very expensive.

I had my windshield cracked up by small impact of flying rock off a truck in 2020. i got it replaced and calibrated in july 2020 the price was $1456. luckilyi bought a windshield protection policy to cover it. and the windshield cracked up(30 cm long) again yesterday(march,2021) due to the same reason. i really cannot afford to pay that much money to replace the windshield( my policy can only pay about $300).

Windshield experienced a very minor impact from a small piece of gravel, immediately resulting in a small chip. within 24 hours, the chip had become a large crack through the middle of the windshield. windshield glass on subaru forester is thin and brittle, this is a common problem on this vehicle.

I seen there was a class action lawsuit against subaru regarding the vehicles eyesight system and the windshield. we noticed a crack that had seemingly come out of nowhere. it has to of happened while it was parked in the driveway. i was looking into replacing the windshield myself when i stumbled on the article. apparently many subaru owners are dealing with spontaneous cracking and my crack started right in the area pertaining to the lawsuit.

Out of nowhere, the windshield has a crack that started at the top and is spreading down. there is no chip that started this. we have 2 newer subarus and this has happened to both cars within a month. there is nothing that we know of that caused this. online we are seeing that this is an issue with newer subarus and windshields cracking.

2/17/2021 - honda accord going north on lynchburg turnpike ran a stoplight (going about 30 in a 25 mpg zone) trying to turn west onto east main st. in salem, va ... bounced opposite curb, cut west and swerved (oversteer) and came head on into my stationary 2020 forester. our light had just turned green and we were about to move forward when the honda came out into the intersection. my wife was driving and i was a passenger. i was taken to er and seen by several doctors and am undergoing pt for the next 5 weeks.

I purchased my 2020 subaru forester in 6/2020, and by 2/2021 the windshield had chipped. i went to get it fixed, and it just cracked even more, according to the glass tech at safelite. i was told this has been happening very frequently with modern subarus and to file a complaint. i didn't notice the initial damage until the car was parked in my driveway.

Driving on straight multi-lane highway ~2:00 pm in the daytime at ~55 mph; clear, dry weather, dry road. no vehicles or obstructions of any kind in front of vehicle, fortunately no vehicles behind. automatic emergency braking system triggered fully without any warning, bringing car to sudden stop in high speed travel lane; could have caused severe rear end collision had there been anyone behind. engine continued to run, vehicle would not move until after shifting into park and back into drive. subaru could find no reason for erroneous sudden stop function.

Returned to my car after overnight sitting in drive way and a crack in the windshield appeared directly in front of the driver. it started at the base, ran up about 5", turned toward the center of the car and so far has run about 15" and is advancing. there is no evidence of impact. the vehicle has 5069 miles on it as of 02-26-21.

I came out to the car and there is a large foot long plus crack from the bottom of the windshield up on the passenger side. it developed out of nowhere.

The front windshield developed a 6 inch vertical crack on the drivers side at the bottom of the windshield. the car was being driven at the time and there was no known cause of the crack. the crack developed spontaneously without any object striking the windshield. the crack then enlarged on its own as it was being driven home.

Came outside, turned the car on and noticed a huge double crack down the middle of the windshield.

My car was a couple months old. i was driving on the expressway and a rock glanced off my windshield. it cracked it. based on the size of the rock, it was small, the windshield seems very susceptible to breaking. my previous car that i had for more than 10 years encountered much larger stones and i never had a windshield crack on me. the repair was over $1,500. it seems like quite the money grab by subaru.

Last night on 02/19/2021 i parked my vehicle at home in the driveway, and the windshield was fine. there was no damage, nothing hit my car while i was driving last night. this morning when i went to go to work, i noticed a large crack that appeared, approximately 12 inches in length. the crack had developed apparently on its own, while the vehicle was in park. the crack continued to spread while i was driving to work over the course of 30 minutes, and is now approximately 24 inches in length.

Went to start car after being parked for 3 hours. doors opened with fob but keyless ignition would not start car and all idiot lights came on locking steering wheel, brakes, gas pedal, etc. subaru service came and jumped car; not sure if fob had died; car only 11 months old, under 9000 miles. temperature in high 20's, low 30's. keyless ignition had been wonky earlier in week and car hesitated to get started. eyesight turned off briefly on drive home after car was started by jumpstart.

Windshield cracked easily. while driving on a maintained city street, i heard what sounded like very small rock or piece of debris hit the windshield and immediately a 2 foot crack appeared on the windshield extending from the upper and outer edge of the passenger side across towards the middle. i was distanced behind a compact suv. from the inside of the vehicle no initial damage point was visible, only the crack. upon further inspection after exiting the vehicle, i found a shallow pen point size divot on the crack near the edge of the windshield.

Cracked windshield. no apparent reason. had to be replaced for $1825.

The linkage cable between the drivers' front interior door handle and the door latching mechanism became unhooked somehow during normal usage, rendering the door inoperable from the interior. simply removing the interior trim from the door and reattaching the linkage fixed the problem, but until then the door was only useable from the exterior of the vehicle.

Came out one morning and windshield had a large crack and it keeps getting larger.

Purchased a new subaru forester sport may 25 2020, the morning of 1/22/2020 we woke up to a crack in the windshield from passenger side all the way to the middle of the glass. the vehicle is garage kept and very well taken care of. the weather was certainly not an issue as it does not get below freezing often (espcially in our garage) in the southeast this time of year. i walked out to start the car to let it warm up before driving as i always do, walked back inside for about 5 minutes then walk out to find a huge crack across the windshield. i dont use the defrost or heat, just the heated seats, so glass heating up to fast couldnt have been the issue; not that it should be an issue. however i did notice a small pin prick of a chip in the glass upon further inspection. that said, this glass is far too fragile and im already expecting to be replacing it again as this has been a problem with subaru for a few years now. $1500 to replace the glass and re calibrate eyesight. expecting insurance premiums to go up at some point. this glass is beyond defective, weak, and what is going to happen when something slightly bigger hits it? i do not feel safe driving one of the safest cars on the market...

Windshield cracked for no apparent reason-found today when car was stationary.

Car purchased on 1/25/21 from dealer with 8700 miles on it in good condition. by 1/30/21, one crack and 3 chips were developing on windshield. did not happen during driving. we have put about 200 miles on it. hailed on 1/29/21 but no damage to glass sunroof or other windows.car spends most time parked in lot, not on street.

A large fracture on the windshield appeared (roughly 16 inches long) with, in my opinion, no obvious impact. i only noticed the fracture after the vehicle had been parked for a period of time. i took the car to the subaru dealership to get the fracture inspected. the service manager ran a ball-point pen along the fracture and found a small indentation (less than 1/32 inch deep) near the a pillar. the dealership claimed that this indicated the fracture was due to an impact and not a defective windshield. consequently, the dealership refused to replace the windshield. i have since filed a claim with my insurance and i am in the process of getting the windshield replaced.

Windshield cracked for no apparent reason within months of owning the brand new car. the crack seemed to come out of nowhere while the car was stationary in my garage over night, and gradually grew much bigger over time.

We bought this car brand new last year, 2020 forester sport. woke up one day to having a crack out of nowhere on the bottom of the windshield, no impact sign. cracked all the way up and now working to the side. just a week ago we had a little rock kick up from a truck on the road, not very big nor going very fast, yet it cracked the glass instantly & dramatically yet again. the window seems to be extra sensitive and not as durable as normal windshield glass. this becomes a large expensive problem for owners as replacing the glass cost $1000 due to eyesight calibration. when it's breaking every few months on the slightest things, it's just not worth it and quite dangerous. we are driving it with broken glass until subaru will fix it, as the repair costs are just too high and this is unacceptable. this needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt!!

The windshield on the 2020 subaru forester is extremely sensitive and fragile. rock impacts that would have left no mark on other windshields leave chips. this morning, while driving on a highway, without a rock impact, the windshield suddenly cracked; an 18-inch crack developed on the passenger side, starting where the glass meets the vehicle, about halfway up the glass. i heard a [pop] noise and noticed the crack suddenly developed; my wife didn't even notice until i pointed it out to her. i've contacted the dealership and they claim that the glass is constructed differently in order for subaru's motion sensing system "eyesight" to work properly. if subaru can't develop a motion sensing system without seriously compromising the integrity of the windshield, they should not sell cars with that system.

Hello, i own a subaru forester sport 2020 and i have the driver side rear window implode without any reason. the car was parked alone for less than one hour and i came out of the house to use it and the window was in a million little pieces with no sign of entry or any object to suggest that it was an act of vandalism. the police came and did a through-rough investigation and could not find a motive or reason. at the end it was assigned as vandalism. however, after further searching online, there is a pending lawsuit christine powell vs. subaru of america due to this reason which is windows and windshields cracking or imploding without any reason. subaru is not taking responsibility and even asked the lawsuit to be dismissed. the number of complains keeps increasing and insurance companies and owners have to foot the bill to get equally bad replacement windows. i am deeply concern for the integrity of the car and also my safety and that of my passengers.*dt consumer stated manufacturer agreed to pay $100.00 deductable.*jb

Windshield cracks easily on a 2020 subaru forester

My 2020 forester developed 2 cracks very suddenly. no impacts, just 2 big cracks at the top and bottom. i walked out from work and found one, and within a few days the second one had magically appeared. i had to have the windshield replaced entirely. subaru insisted it was because of impacts to the glass and wouldn't do it under warranty. they wanted $1500 out of pocket and for me to seek reimbursement via my insurance on my own. i went with oem glass from safelite, hoping that performance would be better than the subaru glass. the people at safelite warned me this likely wouldn't be the case; they told me that the angle/design of the subaru forester glass was faulty and that they see a lot of foresters in their shops for windshield chips and cracks every week. sure enough, 5 months later a rock hit the windshield while i was going about 50 mph on the highway and it instantly turned into a 5" crack that reached the edge of the windshield. i am now having my second full windshield replacement within 6 months. i am very displeased with the windshield on my forester. i know this will not be the last time i'm in for a windshield repair, as i live in a city and drive on interstates with semi-trucks; getting the occasional rock thrown up into the windshield is inevitable. i've never driven a vehicle with such fragile glass.

Purchased new 2020 forrester with 25 miles on it may 19, 2020. on july 14 i was driving on highway with no vehicles close by, when windshield suddenly popped and cracked approximately 12 inches across driver view. no visual chip or other damage, but crack made it difficult for driver to see especially in sunlight. called subaru dealership and they stated this is often a problem with the "smart" windshield, and was not faulty or covered under warranty. windshield continued to crack. dealership repaired windshield and calibrated eye sight on july 23 at the cost of $1416.27. we had glass coverage with safeco insurance, dealership could not file insurance claim so we paid for cost and submitted claim to safeco. safeco eventually paid us in september after multiple phone conversations and questions, including whether the windshield could have been faulty when purchased.

For the 2nd time in a 30 day period i have had to repair my 2020 subaru forester windshield due to a crack. the crack happened while driving 1) on local roads when a very small pebble struck the driver-side windshield and cracked it. in my 50 years of driving, i have never seen a windshield crack so easily like this with such a small pebble hit, and it happened 2x in a 30 day period (dec. 09, 2020 1st repair, and jan. 05, 2021 2nd crack). something is defective with the strength and integrity of this mfg windshield.

A stone hit the windshield - passenger side ( colored glass) thickest part . i watched it crack in half all the way to the center of the car- immediately. i was 1.5 miles from the subaru dealer .so i went straight there , i have had plenty of stone hits , never like this - they have always just made a pit , that could be fixed .i had purchased the car just 3 weeks before. this happened

My vehicle was parked at my place of employment, i exiting my work and got in the vehicle and noticed a chip in the windshield that was not previously there. i drove straight home, after parking in the garage the windshield then began to crack and spider out

Vehicle has some electrical issue with the tpms that less than a year in, one of them is seems to be going out. thee head unit (infotainment sys) also had connection issue that was aware and known by subura dealer rep when called and as to bring in for maintenance. blinds pot monitor on the right has tendency to not flash or alert every so often.

2020 forester with 2800 miles on odometer. started car in 26 degree weather and saw a crack appear on passenger side of vehicle which then crept across horizontally to a length of approximately 18 inches as the vehicle warmed up with defroster on. this vehicle was purposely purchased for it's visibility and electronic vehicle safety features (eyesight). a windshield that cracks seemingly on it's own significantly impacts the functionality, safety and the manufacturer's stated value of this vehicle.

On 12/25/20 we found a crack on our windshield from the roof of the car to the middle of the windshield in the center for no apparent reason. the car was parked in our driveway. we are currently vacationing in western nc and the weather has been very cold. we have not been in an accident and no object has hit the vehicle. we were reassured by the subaru dealer it was not due to the cold weather. we called our aaa auto insurance to schedule a replacement/recalibration at no cost. claim # clm00560639. we also notified troncalli subaru in cumming, ga for repairs they are charging >$1100. the nearest safelite auto glass is 2.5 hrs away in union city, ga. we have a scheduled appointment on 1/8/21. we are very dissatisfied with the cracking of the windshield and are afraid to drive the vehicle until it is repaired. we did not expect the glass to crack on its own. as of today 1/3/21 the crack has increased significantly. the subaru was purchased on 3/13/2020 at don mealey sport at orlando, fla. we would appreciate a quick response to our claim.

I purchased a 2019 subaru forrester in 2019. about 6 months after purchase, my windshield cracked while i was driving, alone on a country highway. there was no way there was any impact, so i thought maybe it was because it was cold outside and i had the heat on - maybe the mixing of temperatures caused it to crack. i had geico cover the new windshield. i purchased a 2020 forrester in july 2020, and had the same thing happen about 2 months after purchasing it. the car was sitting, alone, in a parking ramp that was covered at my house, with nothing around it. i was out of my car for maybe an hour and came back and the windshield had cracked again.

One day i looked up at my windshield and there is a scratch/crack visible on the inside. nothing hit it.

Between the time at which i parked my vehicle (with a fully intact, un-chipped windshield) in the small, private parking lot at my rural place of work, approximately 9:00am est on december 31st, 2020, and the time at which i returned to my vehicle, approximately two hours later at 10:45am est on december 31st, 2020, a large crack had formed on the passenger's side of the windshield. the crack's length was approximately 8.5 inches in width, beginning on the edge of the glass approximately 12" from the top of the windshield and continuing laterally. the vehicle, which i purchased less than four months prior to the crack spontaneously forming, is brand new and has just under 6,000 miles. i have also been the sole driver of the vehicle since purchasing it brand new, and can attest that no rocks or pebbles have hit the windshield.

Front windshield had crack which comes by itself

I've had my 2020 subaru forester for under 3 months and i've put less than 900 miles on it, and yet i've somehow still hit 3 small rocks resulting in 3 chips to the windshield impacting visibility on the driver's side. safelite filled the chips but they are still visible. i believe this is a result of the acoustic glass being more fragile or prone to chips and cracks.

I was driving home it was dark and raining. something hit my windshield when i woke up on saturday i saw a big crack in the windshield

I recently purchased this vehicle within the last four months and an object we could not identify hit the windshield on a sunday. it sounded like a small rock, but two days later on tuesday we noticed a significant crack that developed from a small chip. i later learned after doing some research that subaru has had issues with their windshields.

12/16/2020 driving. 3:30 pm daytime. clear weather. divided highway. approx 50 mph. no vehicle in front of car for at least a quarter mile. car initiated sudden stop mode nearly causing a severe rear end collision (avoided by approaching driver going into median)

On the morning of october 1, 2020, i pulled the car out of my garage. i was the only occupant,. the car was parked facing the wall, on the opposite side of the garage door, and i had to back out of the garage into my driveway, putting the car in reverse. i then had to turn right, into my driveway leading to the street. after i shifted the gear from reverse into drive, the car started moving forward spontaneously, and i was unable to stop it, nor steer the steering wheel. my right foot was on the brake pedal, but i was unable to stop the vehicle. the brake pedal felt hard and would not go down. i found the car going forwards towards the garage, but slightly to the right of the open garage door. i was also not able to turn the car with the steering wheel, which was also stiff. i was fully aware of the failure, and my inability to control the vehicle, with the car going towards my house, and the brake not being effective. my wife, dr. geetha rao who was at the door, was watching and helpless. the car then hit the pillar/ post, between my garage doors and stopped, hitting the right side, of the front of the vehicle into the garage post. i notified my insurance company and drove the car to subaru’s service center, and has since left the car there. i had met experienced a similar situation about 2-3 days earlier. at that time, i did not think much of it. the car is with the service department of bill kolb jr, subaru dealer, and the service manager, can explain the damages to the car, as it has been with them since the incident. my wife was standing at the door and witnessed the incident. the investigation was then handed over to subaru america , who further forwarded it to bosch engineering. subaru america now wants to me take the car without explanation for the failure. i have requested a copy of the report, which subaru has denied .

Driving at 60 mph on texas state route 249 very small pebble hit windshield about 2 inches from bottom near center creating a star less than 1/4 inch diameter with no depth. eyesight system still working. next morning after being in garage overnight, found a crack 14 inch long had extended from impact. will be repaired by insurance at a subaru qualified glass repair facility.

My car developed a crack on the windshield overnight when it was parked in the garage. the crack wasn't there in the night, and the car was driven locally for the past few days to go to work and back. i am generally known to my friends as one of the safest drivers around and i try to drive as defensively as possible. i do not recall any debris or stones hitting my car. the crack is big and it cannot be masked by other measures. i did not expect a car which i have been driving just for 2 months to develop such an issue. on the contrary i have owned my 2004 lexus es330 since past 5 years but never did i have a similar damage like in 2020 subaru forester. i am disappointed in the safety practices of this company. the dealer that sold me the car is incommunicado. i hope someone picks this up and helps me foot the bill which is going to increase my insurance rate and take a significant chunk of money from my pocket which i couldn't have foreseen.

We have had our 2020 forester for 5 months. coming home from a drive to the grocery store, we noticed a tiny crack on the passenger side when we pulled into our garage. there was no debris on the roadway. we looked online and apparently this is a common issue where a tiny crack develops from a rock or other small debris and then within a day or two there is a two to three foot crack across the whole windshield. we have driven other vehicles for years without a tiny piece of debris causing so much damage. there is clearly a flaw in how the windshields are developed (probably to sell their expensive windshield warranty plans). as there is a point of impact i'm sure it won't be covered by any of our manufacturer warranties. the whole issue though is the lack of visible debris during our drive--literally it had to have been something smaller than a pea. it is ridiculous to think that such a small impact would cause the entire windshield to fracture. again, we have driven through debris with other brands in the past, and a small impact did not crack the windshield at all. we did not notice the crack until we got home, but it likely occurred while in motion. we were on a highway, but not a high mph stretch. we were only coming back from a couple miles away from our home, where the vehicle sits in the garage 100% of the time it is not being driven.

I purchased a 2020 subaru forrester on 4-1-2020. 90% of my driving is on slowing moving street traffic. on 11-22-2020siver dollar sized crack in my windshield, located on the very center of the passenger side section of the windshield and 3" above the top of the engine hood. i never heard any rock hit the windshield and on examination of the crack, i could find find any indentation or chip that would have resulted in the crack. on 11-24-2020, i went to the service department of the subaru dealership where i purchased the vehicle. the service rep, named cory, looked at it and could not feel or any crack that would have a started the crack. cory then went to get his service manager. the service manager immediately got a pen and pushed around on the crack until he pushed hard enough to show a less than a 1 mm indentation. he then indicated to me that this a obvious crack from a rock and that i needed to contact my insurance agent and put in a claim on it. when i showed him the service bulletin on the class action suit on windshield failures, he immediately any responsibility for the replacement and said that the bulletin clearly showed cracks we a result of rock damage and had no apparent relationship to a defective windshield. although, he said that the dealership had to replace 2 windshields within the 2020 ytd. if a object that would only inflict a less than 1mm indentation, what would happen to the windshield and other safety devices, if this vehicle were involved in a true accident or had a sizable projectile hit the vehicle. lastly, this isn't the on subaru i own. in my family we have an 2015 outback, a 2017 legacy, 2019, crosstrek and the 2020 forrester. subaru has always jumped to action to replace or repair any safety items. this rebuttal by subaru on this windshield crack comes as a major disappointment regarding subaru's claim to safety.

A 12 inch crack appeared in the center of my windshield, passenger side, starting at the edge, and going horizontally towards the driver's side. i had just left a shop's parking lot. it was not there before parking. i did not spot it immediately but only after 3 minutes driving. there was no noise of a hit or breakage while i was driving. i was uncertain whether the crack would spread to the driver's side - or all over the windshield.

I have 2,500 miles on the new 2020 subaru forester and a large crack appeared on my windshield overnight (stationary). nothing hit my windshield. crack goes from middle of windshield down to the lower right portion of the windshield where it's heated.

Windshield issue - on 10/24/20 discovered approx. 2 ft. crack in the windshield of our 2020 subaru forrester. no idea when crack actually happened. no obvious debris from the road stuck the windshield while the car was being driven. car stays parked in our garage unless it's being driven. car was purchased new on 9/26/20 and had approx.1000 miles on odometer when the windshield cracked. we assumed it was a warranty issue and took to dealer later that week. they immediately told us a rock must have hit it and we had to get it fixed - not covered under warranty. unfortunately the crack is getting larger, so we have appt. to get windshield replaced and pay $500 insurance deductible. can scan and send insurance/invoice paperwork once repair is complete if needed.

Spontaneous chipping and cracking of the windshield while driving in the highway. did not hear any rock or pebble hit my windshield during driving. once i stopped in the gas station to fill up the tank i noticed a cracked starting from the middle top of the windshield while i’m cleaning it.

Literally about a month after we bought the car, the windshield cracked and there was no real sign of impact. i waited a few months and eventually the crack spread across the whole windshield and impaired my vision so i pid my deductible and got it replaced with safelight.

My windshield spontaneously cracked within the first 30 days of purchasing my brand new 2020 subaru forester with nothing impacting it. i was driving with no other cars on the road, making a left hand turn on a well paved road on a route i have driven for years with no problems. now there is a large break in glass running across the middle of my windshield. i even took it to subaru and a service technician said he could not find a place of impact. when i make a turn now i can hear the glass being stressed from the turn.

While driving down the highway i heard a sound that sounded like glass snapping. a tick sound. when i looked up i saw twist looked like a bead of water going across the window. it wasn’t water, but a crack. nothing hit the window.

Windshield cracking: i have 7k miles on my 2020 forester and have had to replace the windshield twice already within 2 months of each other. the first time i'm not even sure if i was hit by anything. i had been driving on the highway for a couple hours and i parked it in my driveway. when i came out an hour later the entire windshield was cracked left to right. the second time while driving on the highway, i was hit by a very small pebble that left the tiniest of nicks - initially barely even visible. within an hour it stretched across the entire windshield. i live in az - it's going to happen occasionally. but all my other cars over the years had lots of tiny and not-so-tiny nicks from small rocks that never spread out at all. the windshield on my prior 2014 forester with 90k miles on it only had to be replaced twice in 6 years. in both cases i was hit by larger pepples that left significant (like 1/2 inch) spider nicks. i am convinced there is something going on with the 2020 forester windshield - maybe the pitch or a manufacturing/design issue. but this is potentially dangerous and a real inconvenience. if it happens again soon, i will trade it in. it's a shame because i love this vehicle otherwise. my cousin in ca btw has had to replace the windshield in his 2019 forester four times in 17k miles.

Led adaptive headlights blind oncoming drivers. i have many drivers flashing their high beams at me when driving on low beam setting with fog lights off. new cars with led headlights unless on flat roads cause temporary blindness in people with sensitive eyes during hours of darkness. anytime these vehicles are on a grade, the beam and color of the light is very intense. when these lights are not adjusted correctly, say after someone alters a vehicle (lift, lower,etc) they are absolutely blinding. i know there are many studies that show the whiter/blue color on the spectrum, that human eyes are not meant to adapt. example, blue lcd displays on appliances are more difficult to see than red or green. yes the lights on my wife’s subaru makes it easier to see for us, however it is bad for everyone else. it is also difficult to see directional signals in the headlamp housing when the headlights are on. i know this will not likely change anything, i’m afraid these lights will cause impaired or fatigued drivers a better chance of being involved in head on crashes with the vehicle with brighter lights. this is a study that should be invested, such as was done with emergency vehicles lights.

Wiring harness, transmission, soy based - destroyed by rodents at 600 miles, 9 months. vehicle on home drive, daylight, as our basement was repaired from flood damage. 1 week on driveway.

My subaru forester 2020 all of a sudden had a big crack on the windshield starting from the top edge to the middle. vehicle was parked on the street for 5 days. no prior dent on it or crack. i called subaru and one of the staff had mentioned they have a thin window material due to the driver assist system. i’ve had my scion tc 2007 which got hit with many things and never received this type of crack on the window. i never had to replace the window and i always park outside in a hot los angeles weather. i now live in the bay area and it is colder here. hoping to have this replaced by subaru as part of a defect.

I was driving my 2020 subaru forester and just beginning to accelerate traveling about 35 mph in the left lane of a straight two lane entrance ramp to a highway. in the right lane and in front of me was a truck pulling a trailer with another vehicle on the trailer traveling at about the same speed. this incident occurred on a clear day around 3:00pm in september. the truck with trailer in front of me kicked up a few road pebbles. by the sounds of the pebbles hitting the underside of the trailer, i could tell that they were small chips of stone. then, i heard one of them ping on my windshield and immediately saw a diagonal crack (from left to right) that began under the rubber around the windshield and extended down about 20 inches in front of me. there was no spider webbing of the glass and no visible pock mark where the pebble may have hit. i completed my trip home and had the windshield replaced and the front radar recalibrated as soon as parts and service were available. i have owned at least 7 cars (most of them older models) throughout my life and have even had some of those cars hit by pebbles and stones kicked up by other vehicles. i have never had a windshield crack in all that time. my recent incident with my subaru happened when this vehicle was only 11 months old!!! i do not feel that a small pebble with vehicles traveling at modest speed should have so easily cracked the windshield of my forester that i purchased based upon its safety features, including the eyesight driver assist technology which was compromised by this crack. i am concerned that the windshield cracked too easily in this less than a year old vehicle.

I have owned my brand new 2020 forester for 6 weeks. as i was backing my car into a parking spot at work (it was raining), i saw what i thought was a rain streak appearing - started on the lower left of the driver’s side windshield - i watched as it grew to a 16-18 inch crack! nothing, absolutely nothing hit the windshield. traffic was slower than usual because of the rain and after exiting the highway, there was no traffic on the less than 5 minute trip to my workplace. i felt nothing on the inside and the outside was smooth, at first. since it was raining fairly hard - i came out 30 minutes later and not only had the crack grown in length - the crack had widened enough that i could feel it! when i got back to my computer - i googled and found hundreds of similar experiences with the forester windshields. i am so angry - i would have never bought this vehicle had i known about the windshield issues. i’m taking it to the dealer tomorrow. it better get fixed - or i will pursue legal action against subaru. i just made my first car payment!!

My subaru has 8k miles on it. was driving down route 81 doing 65mph with no vehicles around me. hit a seem, not a bump but a seem in the highway and my windshield now has a 6” stress crack which started at the bottom of the windshield. no chip in glass and there were no cars near me at all. and the picture i submitted has the crack. there’s one spot to the left of it and that is sap not a chip.

2020 forester. windshield cracks. within a year. one +1ft long crack ran from bottom right hand corner to mid windshield. windshield replaced. cracked again, this time about 18inch crack, starting in lower left hand corner of windscreen, rapidly ran into mid windscreen/windshield directly in drivers field of view. this is unprecedented in my multi decade driving experience. neither the owner, me, nor the insurance company should pay for this. and because it migrates to mid windshield, it is a significant driving distraction, particularly in some sun conditions.

I have had my subaru forester 2020 for only 8 months and there is already a crack on my windshield from a small rock hitting my windshield. the rock was tiny and it created a 18in crack on my windshield.

I was driving at 20 mph on city streets when a small rock hit the lower part of windshield. normally you get a rock chip and you have time to seal. i had zero time to get windshield fixed as the windshield split within a few minutes. windshield splitting so fast for such a little rock chip can be hazardous.

Windshield rock chip. while driving eastbound on i-90 outside of seattle a rock hit the windshield and immediately cracked it. this is the third incident of rock chips to the windshield. i had previously had two chips within a month of each one. i made an insurance claim after the second chip because the windshield split. this was in march 2020. the windshield was replaced and is now chipped already/ again. a complaint will also be filed with subaru as this is the third time the windshield has chipped between two different windshields. this vehicle is not even a year old yet.

While on the interstate, a rock from another vehicle hit the windshield in what normal is a small rock chip was an immediate 10” crack to the windshield. the original rock impact is not deep and extremely tiny but it caused a crack that ended up being a full windshield replacement with eyesight. extremely expensive for something that should have been a rock chip repair. very upset since subaru of america did not do as much as i thought they would for a 9 year subaru owner and four subaru’s later. this windshield (loaner) added to my engine replacement cost from my current subaru.

While driving on a highway after only 10 days after the purchase,the smallest rock you can see with your eyes hit on the left down driver corner and the windshield cracked at the same place with very unrecognizable crack.after just 5 minutes the crack went all the way to half of the windshield.

Driving on a surface street at a constant speed of ~45 mph, a small pebble flew into the windshield and created a crack which further expanded as a hairline crack which impairs vision through the windshield and can potentially cause problems with the eyesight safety features. at this speed, this incident should not cause a crack.

Another chip in the windshield. this is the third chip in a month period, less than 4000 miles on a brand new car. had to have the chip and line/run fixed by a certified repair person who even questioned why he had fixed the vehicle now 3 times! i was driving down the street to the grocery store, which is less than 5 miles away round trip and the chip happened. nothing hit the windshield, no rocks, nothing.

Large chip in windshield caused by nothing. this is the second chip in a 2 week period that is now causing the windshield to become questionable. i came out to the car in the morning which was garaged to find a large chip. the car was not being driven, but was parked in a garage.

Abnormal chip in windshield causing a crack starting to spread. nothing hit the windshield that i recall. the vehicle was only 2 months old when this happened. the windshield was repaired with drill/epoxy from a certified repair person the vehicle was being driven on a side street from home.

I leased my 2020 forester end of march and memorial day drove to my sister’s house 20 miles away. it rained as soon as i left my house. when it was raining on me all the safety features stopped working! lane assist/ lane departure. isn’t that when you need it the most. i could bearly see the road in front of me and no safety features working! as soon as it stopped they magically came back on. also when i use the cruise control the lane assist feature goes into high gear. it pushes the vehicle to the center line extremely hard. more so than normal. not at all pleased with this vehicle. i had heard so many good things about subaru but am not experiencing them first hand. i will definitely not be purchasing this vehicle at the end of my lease and will get out of the lease if at all possible. *tr

My wife and i went on a ride (suburban driving, slow speeds). it was < than a 20-minute trip. when we got back we noticed a small ding at that bottom of the windshield near the hood. it spread very quickly. the car has less than 1600 miles on it since the end of december 2019. it now mid-may and this already happened with limited use. the car is stored in a garage when it is not in use. i am extremely disappointed that we need to pay $1300 for a new windshield.

I was driving, no car or anything was in front of me, heard a pop then noticed at large crack in my windshield. the windshield is smooth, nothing hit it.

I noticed a chip in my windshield that seemed to appear overnight in my garage. i called my insurance company and they sent someone to fill it the next day. when he came to fill the chip, he said that it cracked and spread after he filled it. i then noticed there are literally over 10 chips scattered throughout the windshield not including that one. i bought this forester on october 31, 2019 brand new and am a very cautious driver. there is no way there should be this many chips in my windshield and for the windshield to crack from a certified technician filling a very small chip.

A change in some 2019-2020 subaru models causes an incompatibility between obd-ii devices and the subaru starlink system (which is used to dispatch emergency services in the event of an accident, and for other purposes). subaru service bulletin 15-257-19 11/11/2019 recognizes the problem, but does not offer a solution other than tell the customer not to use the obd-ii device. since the starlink system prior to model year 2019 was compatible with obd-ii devices, it seems likely that a subaru initiated change is causing this incompatibility. as stated in the bulletin, in order to avoid having the car notify the dealer every 3 days of the problem, they have changed the notifications to once every 10 days. this is not solving the problem, but merely pushing it down the road. some consider starlink a safety system, and pay extra to have it available. copy of service bulletin attached. this is a continuing, repeated problem starting on 3/11/2020 and is a continuing intermittent problem. first dealer service on 3/17/2020 found no problem because the issue had temporarily resolved itself. the service bulletin was not found by the owner until 4/2/2020 after several back and forth emails with subaru customer service before then.

Got into vehicle in the morning, turned on ac, windshield cracked while parked.

Stress crack starting under the seal of the windshield. car was going 15 mph in a housing neighborhood.

Tl* the contact owns a 2020 subaru forester. the contact stated that while his spouse was driving approximately 60 mph, a small object hit the upper left-hand corner of the front windshield causing a crack in the view of the driver. the contact contacted subaru of el cajon (900 arnele ave, el cajon, ca 92020, (619) 440-0404) and was informed that the windshield needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that windshield was not covered under warranty. the contact stated that after researching online, it was stated that the windshield was manufactured with a thinner glass and it was common for fracture to occur with little to no impact. the approximate failure mileage 4,000.

Purchased vehicle new in late october 2019. windshield cracked, for no apparent reason, in mid-december 2019. in other words, nothing struck the windshield to cause the crack.

There is a approximately 2 ft long windshield crack emanating from the lower driver’s side and extending toward the center of windshield. the crack was noticed while driving but time of origin is unknown. a tiny rock chip is located a few inches from the start of the crack and seems inconsistent with the length of the crack, based on past experience with rock chips.

Windshield cracked by small pebble on 3rd day of lease of car. driving approx. 30mph when car going only a little faster changed lanes and threw pebble. on a paved road.

Windshield broke for no reason our car is only 2 months old car was in the garage

Front windshield on drivers side, upper portion, cracked for no apparent reason. vehicle was travelling at approximately 40 mph on an on-ramp to an interstate highway.

2020 subaru forester sport purchased new 3.5 months ago. vehicle was driving along local highway when a rock hit the windshield. immediately there was a 5 inch crack formed directly above the driver seat. over the next 10 minutes, the crack expanded downward into the driver line of view and across the width of the car another 10 inches. even after the vehicle was stationary and parked inside a garage overnight, the crack grew another 3 inches.

Had vehicle for less than one month and noticed a crack on windshield from top middle at rearview mirror level. crack was 10-12 inches by end of day. next day notice small chip on bottom of windshield. by end of second day that chip expanded to14 inch crack from bottom middle of windshield. now have 12-14inch crack from top middle of windshield and 12-14inch crack from bottom middle of windshield. i believe both of these cracks to have originated from small rock strikes on freeway driving, but i've never seen such extensive damage from what is considered normal highway driving after driving for less than 2000 miles on vehicle.

Windshield cracked and needed to be repaired by insurance roughly 5 weeks from purchase. driving down the freeway when suddenly i heard a little snap, that's when i noticed a small crack start to form. grew to a little larger than the diameter of a quarter before my insurance had someone repair it 6 days later

My windshield cracked on january 14, 2020, which was exactly one month and one day after i purchased the car from the dealership. i have not gotten it repaired yet since i am trying to keep track of the lawsuit against subaru, but i wanted it documented that i am having a windshield issue as many others have had.

Driving on a road going about 30, wet around a corner a truck passed me going the opposite way. kicking up a rock that hit my windshield and it cracked instantly, more than halfway to the passenger side

Windshield cracked from left to right side. this occurred when vehicle was stationary but winds were heavy in the area. assumption is a small rock hit the windshield as i can see a minuscule chip where the crack starts on one side. vehicle is 3 months old.

Returning from vt on road that i have frequently travelled with no issue. this time driving my 2 month old 2020 subaru forester sport on i-95 and i noticeo a small ding almost dead center bottom of front windshield. i had heard couple small pings while driving, but nothing strong or loud, and was suprised by the ding in glass. over remaining 2 hr drive home, chip turns into about 5-6 inch crack that runs upward. next morning crack is over 10 inches. i was struck by the initial ding in glass, because there was no unusual and intense noise of stone hitting the glass. and i have never had a front windshield crack, even if i have had windshields dinged by stones on highway. struck me that this was unusual. a month later, i began reading about the possible defective windshields on 2020 subaru foresters and wonder if my windshield was originally defecentive/weak.

We noticed a crack in the windshield that seemed to appear overnight. we had no memory of any sort of pebble impact. there was no divot in the windshield as far as we could see, just a crack of ~ 3 inches near the lower center of the front windshield.

Windshield keeps breaking. vehicle bought in november 2019, has been replaced once, and is now broken again. both times, driving on the highway a crack starts.

This is the second incident with my windshield being hit with a rock and cracking. the first incident happened 1/18/2020 complaint #11300348. the second incident happened 2/22/2020. driving on i5 in tacoma, wa a rock from a vehicle in front of me struck my windshield on the drivers side lower portion of the windshield. this vehicle was purchased new on 11/1/2019 and now has two cracks in it. the first crack was attempted to be repaired but unable.

My windshield cracked for no apparent reason. the crack began on the drivers side about midway up from the very left edge. i noticed it when i parked my car at my mothers house having driven one hour to get to her house. it was about a 3-4 inch crack going horizontally from the edge. in one week it is now over a foot long. i do not recall my windshield having been hit by a rock or anything and i have been the only driver of my vehicle.

Vehicle ignition is off and in park. the safety issue occurs when the rear tailgate is left open. after 20 minutes of leaving the rear tailgate open, all the interior lights turn off correctly as a published safety feature to help prevent a dead battery upon departure. the user thinks everything has shut off when the lights turn off, however, the rear tailgate ecu does not turn off or go to a low power state after the initial 20 minutes causing a high drain on the battery. the hatch ecu continues to draw in excess of 4 amps while the hatch is left open, causing a dead battery in as little as a few hours. the user can unknowingly be left stranded with a dead battery causing a safety issue. this is a serious oversight and engineering error that will likely leave many people unknowingly stranded with a dead battery.

On approximately 02/06/2020 i noticed a very small chip in my windshield. i assumed it was from a thrown stone, but i can't confirm that. on 02/12/2020, i parked the car in a long term parking lot near detroit metro airport. when we returned on 02/20/2020, the small chip had expanded to a full crack spanning from the edge of the passenger side to nearly the center of the windshield. the car had not been moved, or even started. it had sat stationary, in the open air, in this parking lot while we were away on vacation.

Owned new car less than a month and passanger noticed crack originating near bottom of glass middle passanger right side windshield. the crack grew to 8 inches that day. i have no recollection of a stone or object hitting and the location seems unlikely place.

I noticed 4 small chips in the windshield when i was drying my car off after washing it. i do half my driving on the highway and am assuming the chips are from debris being kicked up from the vehicle's in front of me. i have heard a few pings on the windshield but did not notice anything at the times it happened until taking a closer look after drying my car.

I was driving on a two lane road with one car in front of me and a car next to me. without hearing any impact or seeing any rocks, i noticed a crack in the bottom, middle of my windshield. it was about 6 inches long with no impact mark. the crack continued to expand before getting fixed 2 days later.

The windshield is chipping and only 8000 miles on the car. do not tell me this is normal i’ve owned ten other cars and this has never happened.

Purchased car new, last week of january 2020. within the first week i found numerous small chips in the windshield and there were no rocks that had struck the windshield. yesterday while driving 45 moh on a two lane road a small rock was kicked from an oncomig car and put a large chip and crack in the windshield. i got the chip and crack repaired from safelite however after searching online i found this is a common problem for the new foresters. my previous 08 subarus windshield never had to be fixed and it had been driven over 180000 miles. it took large rocks and just received small nicks. i have only 1148 miles on this new car and already have had to have the windshield repaired. subaru needs to step up and revise the thickness of the windshield. it is unacceptable and is unsafe.

On 2/13/2020 my windshield cracked over 12 inches long in a matter of seconds while in motion on a street. there was no hit sound. i took it to the dealer and the claim a very small rick hit the windshield causing the crack and manufacturer waranty wont cover. i cant believe a tiny rock that barely has an impact point will hit my windshield and course such a big crack in a matter of seconds.

Spontaneous crack in moonroof glass while parked in a garage. little to no temperature fluctuations and no mechanical pressure (driving or opening the moonroof).

I went on an extended road trip and received two cracks in my windshield in a single day. i have owned several cars in my life, and never have had a car with such a sensitive windshield. i would not expect the windshield to crack so easily. i know this is an issue for other similar year subaru models, so i'm thinking it wasn't a coincidence. both cracks were received on a freeway, moving at 70mph. both objects were very small in size, and should have resulted in only minimal damage.

Two days ago, after having the car for about three weeks, we had a crack appear and grow from the top portion of the windshield. on our drive yesterday, there was one incident where ice came down from a power line and hit the car, but i'm positive we weren't hit by any rocks. and we're talking about a skin of ice off of a power line, not a large chunk or anything of the sort. i live in new england, and every vehicle on the roads here has to deal with similar situations after every winter storm. we didn't see any crack right away, but about 15 minutes later noticed a 4" crack that has now grown to roughly 16", and is right in the driver's field of view. i've done some googling and reading, and i'm a little worried after reading about so many other people having similar problems (tons and tons of stories of people going through multiple windshields, spontaneous cracks, class action lawsuits, etc) i called the dealership i leased the vehicle from, and the person i spoke with was rude and unhelpful, basically telling me that these things happen in new england and that it would cost $900-1500 to replace the windshield and re calibrate eyesight. he said that anytime something impacts the windshield this should be expected, but i am 100% certain that no other vehicle i've driven would have ended up with a cracked windshield in the same circumstances. it makes me worry about how brittle the glass must be if it cracked so soon and so easily. seeing as this is an obvious safety issue i'm very unsatisfied with how the first few weeks of our lease have gone. we haven't even made our first monthly payment and we're looking at possibly $1500/filing an insurance claim?!

Driving lower than 40 m/h on the city street with nobody in front when wipers were on due to snowing, a small crack suddenly appeared right on the bottom going vertically, almost in the center of windshield. it was about 6-7 inches before car was parked in the garage. in the morning noticed that crack changed the direction horizontally to the right, growing more for 2-3 inches. it’s brand new 4 months car. at the dealership, the way how they handled my problem, they knew everything but played dumb, told me there was some debris which hit the windshield. and it’s not visible because it is so small. there is no any evidence of impact. besides, the crack started right at the bottom/edge of the windshield. i hoped that on forester 2020 models, subaru fixed the previous model issue. but look like they just don’t care. surprisedly, with so many complaints for 2019, they still have 5 stars!!!

February 5, 2020, just got in the car to start driving it and noticed the windshield cracked for no reason starting at the very bottom center and is about 8 inches long already. it was not there earlier in the day. it just appeared suddenly and could not see any rock chip in the area.

I have a brand new, 2020 forester (touring) . when i had it for 21 days, i picked up a small rock in the windshield.the rock was small but it ruined my windshield. it i immediately spread across the windshield and is now covers three areas and more than 1/2 of my windshield . i have been reading up on subaru issues and i understand the windshields are a problem...but i didn’t expect this. the windshield has to be replaced and the estimate is over $1400. traveling from corpus christi to san antonio on hwy 37

Driving on i-5 in seattle area, a rock from an suv hit my windshield causing an immediate chip on the driver side of the windshield in the line of vision.

With the headlight switch in the off position and the gear shifter is moved into either the reverse or drive position the shifter seems to activate the rear tail lights to light up and stay on. this action is occurring more and more frequent. this occurs backing out of the driveway, going down the highway, etc.

Car is brand new. within 2 weeks of purchasing already 3 chips in windshield when no rocks were observed hitting. one of the chips is in front of the eyesight system and if it grows it will hamper the safety systems of the car. it will cost me around 1700 dollars to repair something that should have never happened.

When driving the driver heated seat puts out low heat even if the switch is in the off position. at 15 minutes sitting, heat can be felt on the buttocks skin and caused minor skin burn at around 30 minutes.

Vehicle vibrate starting at 50 mph and gets excessive at 65mph and up, while cruising in the highway. the vibration can be felt on the steering wheel and the driver seat seat.

I was driving my 2020 subaru forester sport in the left lane along an on-ramp to the highway, which consists of a road that curves to the right. there was snow on the ground but the roads were clear and dry. suddenly and in a matter of a few seconds, the car began to beep continuously while the steering wheel veered to the left and locked, and the anti-lock brake system kicked in as i tried to correct the wheel and brake the car. i was suddenly completely out of control of the vehicle as the car drove me off the road and down into the snowy median, where it rolled at least once before landing upright. i believe the error with the car may have occurred with subaru's brand-new lane centering technology, released with the 2020 edition vehicles. the technology will physically direct the steering wheel towards the center of the lane if it detects the vehicle is getting too close to either lane line. lane centering is a feature of the subaru's driver assist technology, called eyesight. i'm unsure if the malfunction occurred with eyesight or with the lane centering function specifically.

I purchased the vehicle on saturday, november 30, 2019. as i began my drive to work the following friday (december 6), i noticed a small crack at the bottom of the windshield. i reported it to the dealership since i purchased windshield repair coverage and the insurance company stated that i needed to contact the dealership since my vehicle wasn’t in their system yet. the dealership said that it would have to look into it and get back with me. the following morning when i went to drive the vehicle, the crack spread to more than 6 inches. i was told that my coverage does not include windshield replacement, which is now required due to the size of the crack, and that it would cost $859.19 to do so.

Purchased a 2020 subaru forester sport. five days later, woke up to find a 2-3 foot long crack through the windshield, starting at the very edge of the glass (the black part). no evidence of any rocks, impact, chipping, etc. - when i took it to be replaced, the dealership agreed but said “unfortunately subaru does not cover glass”. i informed them this has been an ongoing issue with subaru, which the dealership said they weren’t aware of. i had to pay $500 for a new windshield on a car i bought 5 days prior, with nothing causing the crack.

When the front windows are open and then closed they always come up from the inside of the door wet. this happens whether or not the car has recently been to the carwash/ its been raining outside/ or not. condition has existed since i purchased vehicle.

We very recently purchased this 2020 forester....less than 1000 miles. the vehicle was parked in my driveway and when we got in it the next morning the windshield had a small crack in it! i hope this isn't a sign of things to come, especially after reading the posts on here of 2019 foresters with windshield problems. i took it straight to a windshield repair company and had it repaired before the crack got worse.

Passenger side air bags are not enabled with a person sitting in the seat using a seat belt extender. there are flaws on the software that identify the passenger actions entering the car, when the seat belt is fastened and whether or not a seat belt extender has been used. if a seat belt extender is already in place, the car refuses to enable the air bags after a person sits in the passenger seat.

I owned my 2020 forester for less than 2 weeks and i got a crack in my windshield while driving on a city street going less than 30 miles per hour. i did not see anything hit my windshield, but heard a crack and saw the crack in the windshield.

Driving the car on the highway from a relatives house, going approx 65 and was hit by something small, could not verify what it was, but presume it was a rock. upon impact, it sounded like a gunshot, which scared everyone in the car. the damage took its toll on the windshield where it left a huge baseball size break and a smaller break above it. this is the 4th time this windshield has been damaged and i purchased new in october 2019. it just turned 6000 miles as i just had the 6k service done on it recently.
