2022-03-28	LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:TRUNK LID:LATCH	Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020 Sonata and Sonata Hybrid, and 2019 Genesis G70 vehicles. The trunk latch may become damaged, preventing the opening of the trunk from the inside. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 401, “Internal Trunk Release.” Remedy: Dealers will inspect the trunk latch and replace the trunk latch base, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 20, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 221/010G.
2020-02-28	EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS	Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020 Sonata vehicles produced between October 22, 2019 and February 13, 2020. The tire pressure label inside the driver’s door and the owner’s manual state an incorrect tire size. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.” Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install new label stickers over the tire pressure label and in the owner’s manual, free of charge. The recall began April 22, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 190.
2020-04-09	ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE	Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020 Nexo and Sonata vehicles. The Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) software may fail to prevent vehicle movement upon detection of an RSPA system malfunction. Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the RSPA software, free of charge. The recall began June 3, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 191.

To whom it may concern:
My name is Mark Gersten and I would like to share with you my experience with Hyundai Motors as I feel there is much that needs to be looked into regarding the safety of their 2020 Hyundai Sonata.
I purchased a Hyundai Sonata on September 30th, 2020. On November 17th, while driving approximately 65 mph on the highway, the car suddenly shut itself off. All of the dashboard lights lit up and the car would not restart itself. After 10 minutes of trying to restart the car, the car started again, and all the lights on the car disappeared. I found this extremely disturbing and continued on my way. The following day, while waiting in the turning lane at a red light, the car once again spurted and turned off. All the lights on the dashboard lit up and the car would not start (I have a video of this happening as well as another passenger who witnessed this). I had the car towed on November 18, 2020 to a Hyundai Dealership. The dealership reported that there was an internal short with the ABS module and the hydraulic module assembly was replaced. I picked the car back on November 23rd.
The next day, November 24th, 2020, I was driving the car and, once again, the car stalled and all the warning lights went back on. I had the car towed the dealership where it stated until December 11th, 2020. The car was only road tested for 80 miles during this time period and the dealership stated that they could not find anything wrong with the car. I picked up the car on December 11th and the car appeared to be working normally. However, on December 19th, while stopped at a red light, the car began to shake back and forth at idle, and the rpms started to go up despite my foot being on the brakes. The car behind me saw what was happening and actually helped me pull over to the side of the road where I left the car and had to have someone pick me up. The people who were behind me are willing to testify to such as well. I had the car towed to the dealership yet again. The dealership stated that they were able to duplicate the issue on December 23rd, 2020. However, no fix was done to the car. The dealership claimed that the car was in a “relearn” process and it would need more time for the car to “relearn” how to drive normally again. Personally, I cannot fathom how a brand new car that idles at 2500 rpms is safe to drive or that this is part of the relearning process. However, as I had no other means of transportation I picked up the vehicle and began driving it again.
Everything seemed okay after the December 23rd incident until February 8th 2021 when I tried to stop while in traffic and the brakes would not work at all. I narrowly avoided getting into a major accident and once again brought the car to the dealership. The dealership found that the master cylinder assembly was internally defective and was not holding pressure and as a result the brakes were not working. The vehicle was returned to me on February 11th, 2021. (I have repair orders for all of my statements as well as the responses from Hyundai and the BBB.) Since then, the car has felt like it was entering another period of rough idling but has not turned off. I filed a complaint with the BBB as well as Hyundai, however no one so far has taken my concerns seriously. So, I went online and began to do my own research.
