2009-09-16	SUSPENSION	NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 ALTIMA AND MAXIMA PASSENGER CARS. THE UPPER FRONT STRUT INSULATORS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT INSULATOR TO CRACK. Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE FRONT STRUT INSULATORS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN OCTOBER 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261).

From the dental office, I came out to my car and to my surprise, my car would not start. Push Start/Stop button in “Lock” Mode; Key light Indicator Flashed; Anti-Theft light in “Steady” mode. Called Nissan Roadside Assistance to be told that it would be $82.00 for towing to the nearest dealership after only wanting help with battery testing. Subsequently, I put the towing on hold and called the nearest Nissan dealership directly. I was told that it may be the key fob batteries. My daughter and I WALKED home for close assistance to drive to Nissan for new key fob batteries. I returned back to my car to test the key fob with NO LUCK. The doors locked/unlocked and the windows let down but didn’t let back up; It was RAINING! I used my own jumper cables for battery testing. NOT THE BATTERY! Lights worked. My battery was BRAND NEW and recently purchased. Contacted my ins. for overnight tow to Nissan. Researched on the issue and came to the Steering Column unit failing often. Nissan ext. warranty is 6 yrs/unlimited mileage; Was relieved. Nissan worked on my car from 7:21A to 3:40P. Nissan told me the Steering Column unit was out of warranty last yr. I only had the car for 5yrs! It took Nissan 5hrs for a diagnostics on my car saying my battery was DEAD; Need to swap it out with theirs to run the test. MY BATTERY WAS BRAND NEW! 1hr. later, diagnosed as faulty Steering Column Module. I immediately contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and escalated this issue to Regional. Regional has NOT responded to date. I have also reported this issue with the BBB. Nissan gave me a price of $1071.00 to fix. I told Nissan that I would try to temporarily fix the module myself and have it towed to where I originally bought my battery due to an existing warranty. However, towing was too expensive. I spoke with the Service Manager who stated that they could charge me for swapping out batteries but will only charge me $1027.98. I never asked for my battery to be swapped out with theirs. If they could not test my vehicle with my battery or charge my battery for the $133.00 that I was already paying for testing, I would have paid the expensive towing to another dealership. Nissan initially stated that my battery was COMPLETELY DEAD and COULD NOT be CHARGED or MOVED even if I attempted to fix the module unit myself. However, once I paid $1027.98 for the module unit, Nissan MAGICALLY got my battery FULLY charged and car ready to pull out. Total RIPOFF; Nissan lied about my battery results. I took my old car to the my original shop where the battery was recently purchased. To my surprise, the battery was in GOOD results with no issues to report. I WANT A FULL REFUND. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!! Nissan has thousands of customers cutting wires and pulling fuses to AVOID being stranded and having to come out of pocket with a $1000 bill that is the fault of Nissan over-oiling a part during production!
