THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, “PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT.” AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION A-PILLAR FINISHER MIGHT IMPEDE THE CORRECT INFLATION OF THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG NEAR THE UPPER PORTION OF THE B-PILLAR. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT PILLAR FINISHERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 16, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
2010-03-03	FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM	NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2009 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56 VEHICLES. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE MAY INACCURATELY DISPLAY THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS SOME FUEL, TYPICALLY ABOUT ONE QUARTER TANK, WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS EMPTY. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL SENDER UNIT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK WITH A NEW IMPROVED SENDER CARD. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 22, 2010. 2010-03-02	SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES	NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND INFINITI QX56, AND MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 NISSAN QUEST VEHICLES. THE BRAKE PEDAL PIVOT PIN END WAS NOT SPIN-FORMED TO SPECIFICATION DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. THE PIVOT PIN COULD SLIDE AND CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PARTIALLY DISENGAGE FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL BRACKET. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE PIVOT PIN HAD BEEN FORMED PROPERLY AND WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 22, 2010. 2010-05-20	SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM	NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN FRONT AND REAR LOWER LINKS, P/NOS. 54501ZQ00A, 54500ZQ00A, 551A1ZQ00A, 551A0ZQ00A , 54501EA00A, 54500EA00A, 551A1EA500, 551A0EA500, 54501ZR00A, AND 54500ZR00A, SOLD BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2009 AND MAY 14, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR MODEL YEAR 2004 THROUGH 2010 TITAN, ARMADA, AND QX56, AND MODEL YEARS 2005 THROUGH 2010 FRONTIER, XTERRA, AND PATHFINDER VEHICLES. THE LOWER CONTROL LINK ASSEMBLY HAS TWO CYLINDRICAL COLLARS FORMING THE INBOARD ATTACHMENT POINTS TO THE CHASSIS. DUE TO AN IMPROPER WELDING PROCESS SOME COLLARS MAY CONTAIN WELDS THAT DO NOT MEET STRENGTH SPECIFICATIONS. Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY AFFECTED LOWER LINK FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 12, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
2008-04-24	SEATS	NISSAN IS RECALLING 1,126 MY 2008 QUEST, TITAN AND ARMADA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL ADJUSTMENT FRONT SEATS. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 207, “SEATING SYSTEMS.” THE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVER’S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS AND REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 27, 2008. 2007-09-25	SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER	CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 210, ‘SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES.’ THE DRIVER’S SIDE THIRD ROW SEAT BELT UPPER ANCHOR BRACKET MAY BE CRACKED. He would “try to find out”, and while he does, I would contact Miller Nissan with this concern as well. Friday March 4, 2011 1:00 PM Received call from Regional Consumer Affairs specialist, Lundy (615.725.7411) Lundy confirmed that the rental vehicle will be covered until next Thursday, March 10. If a vehicle is still required past that date, arrangements will have to be revisited. Thursday March 10, 2011 3:30 PM Received voicemail from Lundy asking for return call. I did not hear this message until about 5 PM and Lundy had already left for the day. Friday March 11, 10:00 AM Received call from Lundy offering repair of all four control arms, sway bar, and brake lines as well as extension of limited warranty (suspension, brakes, steering) to 7 years/ 100,000 miles. I declined and asked “them” to reconsider. Lundy said he would get back to me later that day. Tuesday March 15, 1 PM Received call from Lundy to explain that no decision had yet been reached. He would call me back when one was. Friday March 19, 3:00 PM Received call from Lundy. He told me that there was nothing further Nissan wanted to offer. I tried to express to him that I just wanted to get into a safe, new vehicle without losing money on the deal. I expressed that I do not trust Miller Nissan and suspect that they’re work has been substandard at best. I don’t want them to do any repairs if the vehicle was to come back to me. I also suggested that Nissan might at least repair the existing body damage on the vehicle as an act of good faith. He would ask about that as well as compensating me for lost wages and would call back within 30 mins. Friday March 19, 4:00 PM Received call from Lundy stating he was leaving work for the weekend and his associate, Dion, would contact me with resolution. Lundy would call me again on Monday to make sure my account had been resolved. Monday March 21, 2011 3:00 PM Received call from Lundy. He told me that Nissan original offer was still all they would agree to. No to fixing the body damage.. .no to lost wage reimbursement. In addition, I must agree to start repairs today, or Nissan would no longer pay for the rental car I’ve been using. I asked for the offer in writing, but Lundy said no. After I complained that Nissan was offering nothing new and only gave me an hour to consider their ultimatum, he emailed to a “sales manager” while on the phone with me to get approval for another day on the rental car. When a response did not come quickly, he offered to call me back when he got a response. Monday March 21, 2011 4:00 PM Received call from Lundy. He told me he was able to extend the rental agreement for an additional day. We then spoke at length about the proposed resolution and that it would not make me happy. I referred to a work history notation I noticed at Miller on the 5th stating that a technician “recommended replacing sway bar end” and wondered why that repair didn’t happen. Lundy stated that he had not seen this notation, so I promised to fax him my copy to 615 967 3636. He promised to review the fax and resubmit my request, then call me tomorrow at 1 PM. Tuesday March 22, 2011 1:00 PM Received call from Lundy. Frustratingly, Lundy simply asked if I had made a decision. He did not refer to the promise to submit my request again or to the fax about the mysterious sway bar notation. When I asked him about the fax, he simply stated he didn’t receive it. I resent the fax and Lundy said he would call me back in “a little bit” Tuesday March 22 2011 1:30 PM Received call from Lundy stating he received a fax, but it was blank. I resent the fax. He said he would call me confirm receipt. Tuesday March 22 2011 1:35 PM Called Lundy, but he did not answer. I asked him to call me back. Tuesday March 22, 2011 1:50 PM Received call from Lundy. After telling me yesterday that he never saw the notation I referenced, he now tells me that “they” already knew about that. When I asked for an explanation of the notation, he could not provide it, and simply asked for my decision again. If I did not authorize repair, the rental car would be due by end of business today. When I asked why I couldn’t have anything in writing to show to a third party for verification, he referenced an RO (repair order). I don’t have one. One was never offered to me. He said he didn’t know I didn’t have one, and that “usually” I would receive one from the dealership. When I suggested that he ask the dealership why they didn’t give this to me, he did not offer to get it for me or to find out why I never received it, but pressed again for my decision. I reluctantly agreed to start repairs, but expressed frustration that I don’t even know what exactly the repairs ARE! I also asked to speak to his supervisor because he was unable to answer many of my questions. He agreed to forward me to his supervisor, but then hung up on me. March 22, 2011 afternoon We felt forced to agree to allow the work to be done on the car by Miller Nissan even though we again expressed our concern with the mechanics there and were assured that Nissan engineers would be doing the job. Wednesday March 23, 2011 2:00pm Received a call that the car was repaired and that we had 24 hours to pick it up and return the rental car. Wednesday March 23, 2011 3:30pm Lisa called rep at Miller Nissan (Eric Diaz) and asked that all warranty promises be sent in writing as well as all parts replaced be held for her inspection. Thursday March 24, 2011 2:20pm Lisa arrived to pick up the vehicle. Upon inspection of the parts replaced the coil was not in the box. She spoke with a mechanic who did the repairs and asked him about what type of road test was done. The mechanic claimed the car was taken out for a freeway test. (However, in looking at the in/out mileage on the work order not even a mile was added to the car which makes this test 100% suspect leading to a number of doubts.) Lisa questioned the service manager, Steve, about replacing the coil as well all the brake lines and he said that Nissan Corp did not approve those parts and work. Steve and Lisa then got on the phone with Nissan Corp contact Lundy who said that the vehicle needed to be released and that engineers did not approve those parts being replaced. Lisa questioned a number of times about the tests done and how and who inspected the parts but was given no answers. Lundy was more concerned with getting the $50/day rental car returned then talking about the mechanical feats of this breakage. Lisa claimed she’d walk home before taking the Armada back because not everything that should’ve been looked has been. After debating for about 30 minutes, Lisa finally got Steve to understand that the coil hit the ground so hard that perhaps that was the problem since no one has seen this issue in the car careers. Steve agreed and actually admitted that maybe the spring load was incorrect at the manufacturer and they should’ve tested that. Lundy said they’d cover the rental for one more day. My biggest concern is the trust of this vehicle. Nissan has not been able to determine what the problem is with the car so how am I supposed to trust that the problem is fixed. Everyone is shocked when the see the pictures and video of the breakage. I hope to hear from you as soon as possible and apologize if this is too much detail. Believe it or not, this is the condensed version. We’re just trying to be as diligent in all the time we’ve spent dealing with this issue. We feel like we’re being bullied by Nissan with what could be a disaster if this wasn’t a fluke thing with just our car. Best, Lisa Ely
