TIPM causing erratic behavior with electrical components. Wipers, radio, A/C heating, clock, blinkers

I bought this jeep used 4 days ago from a reputable Jeep Dealer. It rained yesterday and the jeep LEAKS WATER all over – there was water inside the car in the headliner and in the dome lights – this cant be safe with the electrical components!

I put gas in it the pump shuts off it\\\'s not letting me fill it with gas and then when I go to start it and won\\\'t start several times Highway and City driving the check engine light comes on flashes traction control turns on and able to turn off the engine stalls steering locks up car shuts down very dangerous and scary doing 65 70 miles an hour this issue has been occurring for several months have taken it to local mechanic to fix and it\\\'s continuing it\\\'s just very scary and dangerous something needs to be done

Car began leaking through Sun Roof in September. Virtually unusable at this point as there’s a puddle in the backseat of the car.

The TIPM went out
blower on heater not functioning properly but haven’t fixed that yet. I thought the TIPM might solve the problem

This car needs a replacement total integration power module. I’ve heard Jeeps and Chryslers have had issues with this repair before but it seems like an inconvenient repair given that it is expensive and without it, the car loses all electrical control and stalls and the engine cuts off without any warning. This can happen at any speed and it’s dangerous to other cars on the road who aren’t expecting you to suddenly stop and not be able to steer. This problem makes the vehicle completely unreliable and not safe to drive until repaired. It’s relatively sucko that Chrysler hasn’t taken a larger part in correcting this issue, as it seems.

I have been doing research to try and find a recall for my 2008 Jeep Patriot with a leaking sunroof.

I purchased my 2008 Jeep Patriot in Summer 2010. In Spring 2011 (when it actually rains in Texas) I noticed a puddle of water inside the floorboard of my car. I ignored it, but the next time it rained and I was in my car I learned how the mysterious puddle of water got into my car, through the dome light that was full of water. I took it to a mechanic and they could not figure out how the water got in. When I tried explaining to them my witness of the water leaking through the dome light, they could not find a leak anywhere.

Since then, I have had MULTIPLE leaks in my car coming from the light inside my car and the piece to the left side of the windshield. Anytime I try to explain it to a Jeep dealership/take it to a mechanic to look at it, they “can’t find a problem”. Honestly, after spending hundreds of dollars for people to tell me they cannot find anything I have given up. Over time, lights in the buttons of my radio have burned out, lights in my ac have burned out, but today I am letting my voice be heard…

We had a downpour last Thursday in north Texas and I turned my car on Friday to once again the dome light leaking water (not a shocker for me anymore because unfortunately this is the norm) and my radio completely burned out. I cannot turn it on, see the time, nothing. It’s gone.

I called the Jeep dealership Friday morning and he mentioned he just got off the phone with 2 others who are having the exact same issues with their Jeeps.

It’s now Monday and it has rained all night. I got into my Jeep this morning to go to work and my car wont even turn on now. It was working fine yesterday before the rain and now I am pretty sure it has completely shorted my cars electrical out.

I am reaching out to you because I need help. I have been researching how to fix this and stumbled across your claim. I know I do not live in New Jersey and my Jeep is a 2008, but please add this claim to your lawsuit. This needs to be recalled and fixed. There is no reason I should be paying hundreds of dollars for someone to tell me there is not a problem when there clearly is.

Sunroof and interior leakage including lights leakage. When it rain I literally need and umbrella inside my car. Started lee than a year from buying it. Took it to the dealer bunch of times and the let me wiyhput sny transportation for more than a week in some of those cases. This problem affected the radio, lights and damaged the interior of the car. The only temporary solution found was to put silicone around the sunroof affecting the exterior and leaving the sunroof unable to be opened or used. Made a lot of gestions and complains with the dealer and central offices here in PR and no solution was given. I have multiple photos of the situation. Reading on internet there are a lot of complaints about this a no recall or solution is given by the company. This is very unfair and something has to be made.The attempts written above was with the dealer and the central offices. Made by me I really forgot. Mileage is an approximate. Also has corrosion at the left side of the roof.

My 2008 Jeep Patriot is leaking from the dome light after heavy rain this past weekend. The seats in my car, the rug and dash were so wet Im still airing out my car and Im so paranoid about mold and rust, or even worse the car creating a short circuit while my kids are in the car. My radio went out as well as a result of all the water leaking through, this is so upsetting. I was so disgusted to find out that there were so many people with this same exact problem and Jeep not recalling these cars or at least sending a voucher for whatever the expenses are to fix it. I read that some have had to take in their cars in more than once for the same repair and it doesnt get fixed, its like throwing money away.
Im still paying for my car and I dont think that it is at all fair that I am paying for a car that I cannot trust now. Unfortunately I bought the car as is and that was my worst mistake ever. Jeep please do not ignore these pleas, we need safe reliable cars that we can trust. Beyond disappointed.

My sunroof leaked in November 2011 at 35000 miles when the car was still under manufacturer’s warranty and the repairs were made at no cost to me. We are beginning the rainy season here in Seattle and I see that they problem has return. I keep an empty coffee cup in the car just in case this happens and each time, I collect enough water to fill about half the cup. This does not include the water than drips into the car while I am not in it – I have no way to measure that, but my seats have been soaked, as have the floor mats. Recent online research has alerted me to the fact that my car is not the only one experiencing this issue. The water leak has not caused major issues such as a crash or injury, but I see how driving with my left hand cupping the map lights to prevent water from soaking me while driving could certainly result in an accident. Hopefully we will make enough noise here to get Jeep’s attention. Otherwise, I love my car – my second Jeep – and would like to remain a loyal customer.

I purchased 2 Jeeps Patriot with lifetime warranty in 2008 from Chrysler dealer.. I mortgaged my house for this purchase as Im close to retirement and this type of warranty I consider was a big plus when living on retirement income so mandatory 5 years checkup was already on the time frame in Feb 15 2013 and I visit: Beck Chrysler Dodge Jeep. I went to the dealer 2 weeks before Feb 15. to ask if I need any pre-condition to leave the car for the inspection and the guy in the service door tell me that please just bring the car when ready as I told him that I need a ride home and until my wife was able to bring me home (never offer me the advertise service to bring home customer) imagine my surprise when I show Saturday the 23er and the same guy told me :
You need an appointment to leave the car.
Once I left the car at the dealer they call my wife and told her that spark plugs where part of the warranty service procedure. The warranty explanation in writing express clear that this inspection interaction will be free so I guess that converting a free visit once you are in the door to a good charge is a must for the Chrysler franchises However they express to her that they need approve for the spark plus replacement.. of course my wife say yes. also my car had an intermittent ABS light that it came intermittent but every time that came on I disconnected the battery of the car for hour and the light stay off for days. I waited to get the car to the dealer. They also ask her permission to replace a tire speed sensor defective ( very unlike since the sensors on this car wered swap with my brothers Patriot trying to find if the light was coming on as a result of a faulty sensor as in the OBD2 system. My car never show any codes) they told her that this faulty sensor was the probably cause of the light. $383 for 4 Spark plugs $2.50 in any auto parts and a wheel speed sensor that as I explain I swap with another car and the all were ok. (about the spark plugs I had change them 14,000 miles before this visit on my regular schedule maintenance but…..they say they had no records of maintenance. But of course if they ask for the records ” after the charge.and the release of my car my ABS light still on!!! My transmission is not engaging the lower gear…. yes I know that CVT has no gears but JATCO design of the transmission with a lower gear for the line of Patriot, Compass and Caliber so from dead speed to 20 MPH this low gear work and the transfer power to the CVT continuous gears one speed…. I went to the dealer to contest this charges so When I confront the manger he inform me that they find 49 faulty codes in my computer. I explain him that I own an OBD2 tool that when my ABS light was on I try to read codes but never any one was found in the system I even bring my car to AUTOZONE trying to get code with a better proffesional tool but not even one show however any one familiar with any car system knows that maybe some codes can be found in any system but 49 will render any car to inoperable and if you take no action probably the car cant run but as their report show only the perfect working spark plugs were replaced and the sensor I already establish I swapped from a perfect working car. As to refund my monies he took the car from me for almost an hour telling me that the parts they installed in my car had to be removed to be restock. So.. now THE ABS light that I had been resetting disconnecting the battery for the last weeks before the visit doesnt go off any more!!…… and Im driving my car with a permanent fault code of the brake system!! I dont know what to say about this but it is a big risk of accident in this action.
I own an OBD2 tool to read the codes on the computer of the car but never had any one before this very visit…. even with the ABS light on due to the need special of software or the ABS system UNTIL after the visit I have 4 solid manufacturer codes that require special software to delete……none before..
They say in my 5 years life time warranty report that my car have electronic overload because I use a regular 2 clip connector inverter connected to the battery of the car a removable inverter to charge my phone …. noting to the car circuit but on the battery it self …. with this line alone my life time warranty can be in jeopardy no matter that it is my property no matter customer service
My car was in store for 2 years and start showing some oxidation so I spray some fog of WD40 ..we all live here in this town in the edge of the river nothing is better for a boat motor with computer and electronic that a good fog of WD40 to preserve the engine but in my report they state that is a “mystery spray” in the computer and all over the car..
I pay $383 for those parts and they removed the sparks and install back a bad sensor? so what do I pay for???? My money has never been returned, not even after the new parts are already in their stock!!!!!
I opened a case #23140198 with Chrysler the manager taking care of my case IN CHRYSLER is a great knowledgeable person but her power is very limit and I need some one local like an area manger.

rear light/flashlight leaks when it rains. front light did but they seem to get it fixed! This is getting ridiculous! See on the complaints that there is many of them. Something needs to be done about this problem in these vehicles.

I took it to Tom Masano Ford (formerly Jeep where I purchased it) for inspection and they said there was too much play in one of the ball joints and needed replaced. the cost was $435. I took the car back to take to a Chrysler dealer for a second opinion. In the meantime I called Chrysler and opened a claim with them. I was surprised at the ease of getting someone on the phone and having a case manager call me back same day. I did not say anything to the Chrysler dealer about the ball joint, but they called to tell me it needed a lower control arm and ball joint. At that point I told them to complete the work and called my case manager at Chrysler. I got voice mail. I then got a call from her stating she talked to the service advisor and I would only have to pay $109.16 copay as a “one time good-will courtesy”, but was told “this is normal wear and tear for your vehicle every 36K miles”. that is absurd. there are tons of complaints on the internet about this all over the world. it doesn’t have to do with salt or PA roads. people in Greece are having the same problem. and I just found this service bulletin on your website from Sept. 2008 regarding control arms: Service Bulletin Number:

Why isn’t Chrysler admitting they are defective instead of telling people this is “normal wear and tear”?

When I test drove my Jeep, water was leaking out of the interior dome lights. It was fixed before I bought it and took it home. About a year later, it happend again and I got it fixed or so I thought. Now for the third time, water is pouring out of my interior lights.

recurring problem – roof leak through dome light – first ocurred in January 2010 (I purchased the vehicle in Oct. 8) during a period of rain – experienced ongoing leaking through dome light – water fills dome light and drips onto dash and console, ALSO soaking roof interior – returned to dealer for repair at this point. They assured me it was repaired due to a crack in the sun roof frame but the next time it rained it happened again. I then took it back to the dealer and they then assured me it was fixed and was due to a clogged sunroof drain. THEN merely two months later, as soon as it rained at all again, it happened AGAIN. Turns out they never fixed ANYTHING, it had merely happened to stop raining right after both ‘repairs. Now I have to take it in again for a THIRD time.Plus, each time I had to leave the vehicle overnight, causing me to have to acquire (and pay for the insurance on) a rental. ALSO – only two months after purchasing the brand new vehicle, I had been driving on the freeway for a few miles at about 60mph when all of a sudden the accelerator went completely DEAD. The car completely stopped functioning (despite the fact that there was plenty of gas in the tank) and I could have been killed by the immediate uncontrollable deceleration – I was lucky to be able to coast to the side of the freeway but had I been one second off, I could have been obliterated by one of the large vehicles on either side of me. I had to have the non-functioning vehicle towed to the dealership where they supposedly examined it but found NOTHING. This only happened once but I constantly fear that it will happen again. I also have had ongoing problems with a completely erratic gas gauge – it will bounce back and forth from showing a quarter tank full to all of a sudden having the gas light on and vice versa – also a problem I have asked the dealer to examine multiple times (when having to take it in for OTHER issues) and also the fact that it seems to burn through gas at an alarmingly higher rate than it is supposed to … but again they tell me they have inspected it and ‘everything seems fine’. This vehicle is NOT FINE. I purchased a brand new vehicle so that I would not have to deal with mechanical issues for awhile and this one has been NOTHING but problems since the absolute beginning

The whole wire harness had to be replaced. The tie rods had to be replaced 2 times.

clutch, flywheel, trans assembly blew up and caught fire

Car stalls within the first minute or so of driving after filling gas tank to shutoff. when the engine dies, so does the power steering, creating a very dangerous situation. happens consistently. began several years ago but i lived with it by not filling tank to full. now my son drives the car, and i am concerned that it may happen when he is driving and cause an accident. this is very dangerous. many people have complained about it, and nhtsa must do something about it and hold chryslter/jeep responsible

The k frame is rotted out, they said there was a recall but when i took it up i can’t find one.

I have a little over 70,000 miles, and the subframe of my vehicle is completely rotted and needs replaced. i contacted jeep about this issue, and they told me there is nothing that they can do.

Cradle frame assembly is completely rusted and replacement cost quoted as $1500, or the vehicle will not pass pennsylvania inspection.

Rear differential failed. the entire differential was replaced by jeep through unlimited powertrain warranty. problem solved. -the frame and body begun to rust. the problem started to appear when the car was less than 5 years old. the problem was brought up to jeep. jeep declined to fix or address the problem. -engine stalls every 11 seconds. faulty code shows: p2107: throttle actuator control module processor. the throttle module was replaced twice. problem persists. the engine completely shuts down while driving. very unsafe due to loss of steering. currently, the car is not drivable - problem not fixed. request research help. *tr

Driving back from visiting my brother in pittsburgh on mon. 10-10-2016 on the pa turnpike i heard a weird noise underneath my jeep up front sound like a light squeaking noise but couldn't figure out what it was i was debating on dropping my jeep off at my mechanic to check it out but we got home too late drove jeep to dr appt that week on a wednesday for test results driving on smooth roads only heard the squeaking noise until i hit a little pot hole on my driver's side on the back roads going about 25 mph & heard a clunking noise and no matter when i hit a little bump with the right front tire area i heard a loud clunking noise like a ball joint or shock i called my mechanic to tell him i was dropping off the jeep and told him the noise it was making. after i dropped it off i was informed by my mechanic the next day that my front sub frame on the drivers side the bolt hole was rusted from the inside of the frame and broke breaking my connection to my right control arm and recommended me to replace the sub frame and both control arms on both sides due to the rust on the left side also before that too broke off. it could have been a very different scenario if this would of happen on the pa turnpike heading home to coopersburg, pa over 200 miles one way the man above watched over us that day the jeep only has 36,192 miles on it the pictures below bad--driver's side front of sub frame totally inside rusted area-major problem / good is passenger side as you can see the hole and the insert inside is not aligned properly. i would think it was a defective part which is not on the recall list. my 1st jeep purchase because of it supposedly ruggedness in all weather and good safety rating guess i was wrong i am 80 yrs young & i definitely don't dry off road i bought it new in 2008 safety rating& rugged thank you for your time thank god it didn't happen on the interstate-[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When fueling the fuel backs up and shuts the pump off after just a few cents at a time taking 20 minutes to fuel and having fuel spray on me and all over my car over and over. very dangerous! i can't believe this was not a recall after reading about so many others with the same problem. *tr

I bought this jeep used and the first time it rained, water came in from the sunroof into the car, there was water in the dome lights, running out of the headliner, running through the electrical components. now i see that this is a known issue with this model but chrysler has not recalled or done anything to correct in the current model year. i am afraid fo rmy safety driving this vehicle with water coming in contact with electronics or water coming into my face, on my steering wheel while driving causing a distraction. i hope the nhtsa will help and force the mfr to fix this for all of us jeep owners. *tr

I have had trouble with my car taking in gasoline for the past year, it will let me pump in a little then the pump will automatically shut off like its full, but i have only pumped in a half of a gallon. it will do this the entire fill up, which will end up taking me close to 20 minutes for it to get full. now recently over the past couple months, i have had issues with my car stalling right after i fill up my tank, i will pull up to the stop light to leave the gas station and it will stall. so i have to put it in park and restart it, sometimes it has done it for the first several stops, it will stall again when i come to a complete stop. it is also having hesitations while driving, almost like its stuttering, i have talked to several mechanics about this issue and no one can pinpoint the problem. im starting to get concerned that its going to damage other parts of my car because of these problems. *tr

Rotting subframes, front and rear. engine drain drips onto front subframe, keeping the subframe wet and causing it to rust out. jeep recalled the 2007 model year to replace the subframes but not the 2008 year, yet the design flaw persists. rotting subframe caused vehicle to fail annual nh state inspection. vehicle was built and sold in what chrysler calls a "rust belt". so, chrysler confirms the problem but only fixes it for 2007, not 2008.

My mother owns a 2008 jeep patriot. i was driving her car on the highway at 60mph. apparently, the car wanted to stall while driving at high speed. due to an accident on the highway, i was able to reduced the speed safely. when i went to change lanes to the right, the signal spark and/or caused the interior lights to go on. the a/c cannot be on while driving either. there seems to be an electrical short that is causing all of these problems to happen all at once. i'm afraid to have my mother continue to drive the car. she only drives on local streets, but this too can cause an accident. i took her car 2 years ago to a jeep dealer to repair an electrical short on the hatch door due to it getting wet. the dealer replaced the rubber moldings around the hatch door, but it has returned. and again they were not able to find the problem. all of theses problems keep persisting and she is afraid to drive.

Front subframe crossmember corrosion, hole rusted in crossmember effecting safety. as reported to me by my reg. local mechanic while he was preforming other maint.on vehicle as it was raised on vehicle lift. (suggested it was dealer repair) per tsb 23-012-14 the prior yr model was recallled for same reason on the same parts.

Water is leaking, possibly from the sun roof, through the front dome light over the stereo. (where the buttons are to open the sun roof)

After filling gas tank at any gas station, the vehicle starts and drives approximately 100 to 200 feet and stalls. this is normally in traffic while starting out at an inter-section. this happens every time i fill up with gas.

For the past year, after filling the gas tank and driving 1/2 to 1 mile the engine sputters/bucks and cuts off. this happens with every fill-up. yes, every fill-up. i don't over fill, i just stop filling when the pump clicks off. i have to be very careful so as not to get into an accident. if this happened on the highway where i live, i could be killed. i read about the problem on a jeep forum and found about this website so i thought i would file a complaint due to the dangerous condition.

After refilling the gas tank the car will jerk suddenly and or stall while driving. the problem will stop after the car drives for a mile or so. this will happen while the car is in motion or halted (at a traffic light or before pulling into traffic). in particular i have been pulling into traffic and had the car not move forward or slowly roll forward. i have also been at traffic lights, and when i press the accelerator the car will not move. there are no warning lights before the car stalls/jerks. after the car is driven around for a short period of time the stalling and jerking does not occur again. i have had the car for a year and at first did not notice anything wrong with the jerking. however, it did stall several times before this complaint.

Rear crossmember/subframe assembly rusted through in multiple locations resulting in large holes and the rear differential mounts to detach from the frame and rotate while shifting causing excessive noise and damage.

Summary: while driving my car will still in the engine dies the car lots of iowa city it doesn't matter where you're going after you put gas in the car he usually doesn't start but now it has started not letting you fill up with gas at stopping the fuel pump like your tank is full and it didn't put any gas in it but it's very dangerous and scary when you're driving down the road and your engine shuts off in the car stalls and locks up. the traction control will come on and it's an able to be turned off after it locks up and stalls and shuts off while you're driving it any speed it doesn't restart request research help very scary it's going to lead to something horrible happening this problem cannot get fixed

I took my jeep patriot to a local mechanic to put a hitch on the back for a bike rack, and he noticed that my subframe/cross member was in dire need of replacement due to rust. i took the vehicle to a jeep dealer and was told that this is a common issue in these early gen. patriots, and that a recall had been issued by jeep (chrysler action # 23-012-1) for the 2007 patriot and compass models. the details of the recall would be that jeep would cover the cost to repair the rotted sub frames in the 2007 patriots manufactured prior to july 2007, and the eligibility for coverage under this recall is decided by vin number. the dealer confirmed that my jeep was manufactured after july 2007, but purchased in march 2008 and thus would not be covered under the same recall. now, i am currently having issues with my patriot's steering and deceleration, especially when driving on the highway. i experience shaking of the steering wheel and vibrations throughout the vehicle while going speeds over 50mph on the highway. when exiting the highway on a ramp, the issues are the most pronounced. i have to be diligent about braking several times to make sure the car is decelerating safely as well as the steering feeling extremely loose. i've contacted jeep to see if the issue with the sub frame rotting would be covered in the 2008 patriot model, since it appears to be the same issue as the 2007s had and had not been corrected. i had no luck talking to a representative with jeep about this issue. my ticket with jeep was closed by customer service after the e-mail rep. directed me to purchase a warranty with jeep or visit a dealer (which i'd already done). we are bringing the vehicle to a local mechanic to fix the sub frame this week. i'd like to be reimbursed by jeep for the cost of repairing the subframe. thank you for your time, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

During routine maintenance, yy 2008 jeep patriot with 106,000 was deemed unsafe to drive due to a rusted front crossmember. there is no other rust on the vehicle. the 2007 jeep patriots/compass and dodge calibers all had their warranties extended so that the crossmember could be replaced. based on investigation through the internet it appears that many 2008 jeep patriots & compasses are experiencing the same problem but consumers are not being notified. this is very dangerous as the rotted frame is not visible so drivers would be unaware of the problem.

I was driving my 2008 jeep patriot limited down the street and hit a pot hole and with in seconds it sounded like a flat tire. i pulled into the closest parking lot and got out there was no flat tried to drive it and the parking brake was locked i took the brakes apart and the parking brake on the one side completely fell out in my hands. the brake clips ripped out of the dust cover and the adjuster fell into to the drum and locked the brakes up. luckily i was only doing 30 when it happens and slowed down other wise if i was on the highway i could only imagine what would of happened.

K frame is severely rusted. k frame is under the air conditioning drain. the front wheel suspension is also attached to k frame.

Shortly after refueling the vehicle, it stalls and sputters for 3-60 seconds. this happens after every refuel. during most fill ups i am driving on the highway and after the fill up i get back on the highway and get up to 60-70mph, when it sputters at this speed the car jerks and i briefly lose the ability to accelerate because gas will not pump during the sputtering. if i fill up while driving in the city the jeep simply just dies if the rpm are under 900 or if it's idling. everything on the jeep is stock, no aftermarket parts. i have seen reports of this happening to numerous other jeep patriot owners. i am unsure of the part causing the issue.

Every time i refill my tank with fuel, the first several minutes of driving the engine will hesitate and almost stall (or will stall if driving at slow speeds). while stopped in idle, engine will completely stall. once some fuel is burned, the engine will no longer stall. this issue has been ongoing for years.

Approximately 12/2018 i had to have my gas tank replaced due to a faulty rollover valve/flapper/inlet check valve located in the gas tank. i am now having the same problem with the new gas tank. the cost to repair this problem is well over $1400 and to have to do the same repair twice is unthinkable. this has to be some sort of safety issue as well, because if these valves/flappers are supposed to expel air from the system, couldn't this be harming my vehicle more and/or cause pressure to build in the tank? there was tsb 14-001-09 rev a issued. chrysler admits this is a big problem and has recalled a bunch of jeeps, dodges, and some chrysler town & country vans. however, my make and model (08 patriot) is not covered under the extended warranty they issued for the gas tanks.

I purchased this vehicle new in september of 2007. it currently has ~45,000 miles on it. within the last year it began to stall after filling up with fuel. it may run for a short time.....long enough to pull out from the pump and into traffic and then stall. it has always restarted, but on occasion stalls again, or may buck. fortunately, this has not resulted in an accident so far. for safety reasons, i have begun to let it run for a bit after filling before pulling into traffic. i do not top off the tank once the sensor shuts the pump off. if i shut off the pump before full, it has not stalled. i took it in to the dealership to have it checked out. they claimed not to have encountered this problem before, but i had found online forums where other owners discussed experiencing this problem. according to the dealership, the only remedy was to replace the fuel tank...an expensive proposition. i believe this is due to a design flaw and presents a serious safety concern.

Took vehicle in possible shock replacement, tire balancing and/or new tires. was noted that the crossmember was almost rusted through and was in need of immediate replacement. when checked for service bulletins, was found that the 2007 patriots are under recall for this very issue. considering this is a 2008 patriot, built in 2007, it should be included in the recall.

I was informed by a shop at an oil change that the jeep patriot 2008 has extensive rust and corrosion and is not safe to drive. this jeep has been serviced many times at a jeep dealer in the past and have never been informed of any rust .with this info we have researched 2008 patriots and have discovered numerous complaints with rust and corrosion . i will reach out to the jeep dealer as we purchased a life time maximum warranty at purchase when we bought new .

I have had to replace 3 alternators throughout the past 2 months due to a electric problem. my battery light became illuminated each time i was on the expressway going around 70 mph. the battery light indicator tells me my battery is not properly charging due to my alternator. this leads to it having a problem with the computer in my car as i was told by my mechanic and that the problem with keep happening until i get another computer which costs a good amount to have replaced or fixed.

When the gas tank is full the service lights come on engine stalls out about half a mile down the road. the steering wheel locks up when the engine goes out so you cant even coast over to the side of the road.

I had to have the subframe and cross member replaced on my 2008 patriot in january 2017, it has rusted again and the same parts need replaced, it was replaced oe parts which i feel were faulty. i was making a u-turn on a small city street and my rear cross member broke, i thought i ran over a something then my steering wheel shimmed , my tires that were held in the cross member were now tilted in to my cross member making black smoke. my tire rubbed on my wheel well untill blew . i was very lucky i was not going fast when this occured.

I made a u-turn in my vehicle on a town street , as i completed the u-turn the vehicles rear suspension broke. the broken suspension made the vehicle feel like it was going over a rumble strip, the suspension being broke made the wheels turn in towards the wheel wells where it rubbed and eventually blew my tire. i was looking for a place to pull off safely. when i finally got it too a auto shop they told me the suspension rusted in two .it had to be moved with a flat bed. i had the vehicles front fixed in january of 2017 . which was under the extended warranty because of complaints so the vehicles rear took an extra three years to rust out which is only two years over the warranty. i have enclosed a copy of bill from when then front was done.

Went for an oil change, mechanic noted the front crossmember was rusted and, should it break, my tires would fold in and engine would fall out. jeep recalled those part on its 2007 patriots, but not on 2008, despite what seems to be several complaints about this crucial part rusting prematurely. i contacted jeep and they told me the warranty expired in 2017 (the year we purchased the vehicle) and there was nothing they could do. this is a dire matter of safety and it’s shameful that jeep won’t lift a finger to replace these parts. repair estimates are $1300-1500 for a vehicle valued by kbb at less than $500.

My rear passenger side axle broke. and it needed a sway bar link for the same side. i bought a new axle and sway bar link. my mechanic took off my tire to fix the parts and said that the frame or sub frame is completely corroded and unable to hold the sway bar link because there is no place to attach it. yesterday i went to the store and the new axle broke while driving. very unsafe and when i bought this vehicle in may 2018 i was not told about it. i had the jeep inside a shop to fix my slave cylinder in nov. 2019 and a few other things and they never even told me how bad it looked under the vehicle. i have called jeep customer service and was told there is no recall on my jeep. but when i did some research everyone has had the same issue i am having. there was a recall on all jeeps for the sub frame rusting out. and every customer said jeep wouldn't help

The valve inside the fuel tank broke and the jeep can no longer be filled with gas without the gas pump believing it is already full and turning off. this results in many, many attempts to put fuel into the vehicle and gas leaking out of the fuel pump down the side of the jeep and all over the ground. my mechanic was trying to find the issue and in his research found it to be a known problem but a non serviceable piece, meaning the entire fuel tank must be replaced. this is something that should not have failed and created an environmental hazard and a potential fire hazard as well.

Every time the fuel tank is filled, the engine stalls a couple minutes after i pull out of the gas station. this has happened getting on highways and is a potentially deadly situation that apparently is well known with this vehicle. for whatever reason this has not been recalled yet and won’t until somebody is killed. please take action to get this recalled to repair the situation. this has happened on at least a dozen occasions so far.

This issue started a few years ago when our 2008 jeep patriot was approximately 5 years old. almost every time we fill the tank with gas, immediately to within the first couple of hours the car will shudder and stall, then it has a hard time restarting. we have had the vapor purge valve and canister changed 3 times which seemed to fix it the first 2 times, but only temporarily. this has been quite disturbing since it has stalled in traffic, usually when coming to a stop at a light or to make a turn, but a couple of times it stalled while driving home from the gas station. it is usually ok after sitting over night, but it has had the same issue the following day a few times. none of the dealerships or repair shops that we have talked to seem to have any idea what the issue could be. i have found that not topping off the tank fully, the issue seems to occur much less often, but the fear of it stalling while driving is constant, and is still a major issue to this day.

I was going down fern valley road in louisville, ky and someone in front of me slammed on their brakes and to avoid collision i slammed on mine. i heard a crunch and when i took off my driver side tire sounded like it was squealing so i pulled off to the side of the road to see what was wrong. my driver side tire was cocked sideways and the passenger side was straight. i didn’t know what had happened yet so i just got it towed. it appears the subframe has snapped due to a large amount of rust.

After filling up my gas tank this morning, my car sputtered and stalled in the middle of an intersection immediately after i left gas station. i was yielding to turn left to enter the northbound lanes of i-69. i have had this issue for quite awhile now and my mechanic hasn’t been able to find an issue since it only happens when i fill up the gas tank. i decided this morning to look for other jeep owners with the same problem and found a forum that dates back to over 3 years ago with people having the same problem. apparently, their findings have led to the gas tank needing to be replaced in part to a faulty part that sits on/in the gas tank. in the past, i’ve had to time traffic lights in order to make it through without stalling but obviously that didn’t work today. typically, this is only an issue when i’m driving at slower speeds or in stop/go traffic. also, the steering wheel locks up and is very hard to turn to get out of the way of traffic. often times, the jeep doesn’t start right away. you have to rev the engine and then put in drive quickly and take off or it stalls again. in the forum, several people have tried to replace parts for quick fixes without any success. this should obviously be something the car makers should fix without passing the cost along to the owner.

My jeep 2008 patriot stalls when i am driving, right after i fill the fuel tank. i didn't know what was causing the problem at first and have almost been rear ended several times! i took it to a couple of garages who couldn't find any problems. the computer doesn't show any related codes. now i have to stop filling my tank to the top or else it will stall 5 or 6 times for the first 10 miles or so. it's a hard, sudden stall, and i lose all power steering, breaks and control of the car. it's very dangerous! i have seen multiple articles with many people having the same problem, and am surprised it hasn't been recalled considering how dangerous this is.

My airbag light has been turning on and off for over a year. i had it checked out when it first came on and they wanted over $600 to fix the clock spring. due to not having funds to fix it, it’s still undergoing. the light comes on and off all throughout the course of driving. i have read several reviews of people having the same issues for years now so why hasn’t it been recalled yet.

Never received extended warranty information on front and rear crossmember corrosion (x69 warranty extension). have all required maintenance at dealer. they never mentioned the extended coverage nor did they tell me after any of the service there was a rust issue. now they refuse to cover this repair. i also have the lifetime mopar maximum care. they also won't cover because they say the part failure is due to rust. tge parts requiring replacement should all be covered. they are:rear crossmember - rear upper and lower control arms - both rear calipers

I'm able to put my 2008 jeep patriot in gears bit when i put it into drive my veichle won't move forward. before this happens my thermostat transmission o2 heat sensor came on and was difficult to gain speed. i would have to pull over and shut my jeep off and let it cool off before starring it back and was fine after the sensor went off.

The vehicle has serious electrical issues which stem mainly from corroding wires. i’ve had it at 3 different mechanics, & 2 different dealerships all for them to tell me either they have no idea what is wrong with it or that they can just start replacing wires & hope for the best basically even though it isn’t worth putting the money into at this point. the electrical has effected my batterie (i’ve had to replace 3 batteries in the last 2 years), at this point i have to have it on a battery charger 24/7 when it isn’t running because the it just drains my battery & won’t start, 4wd sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t, air conditioning, entire computer system (when i’d shut the vehicle off & pull the key out, it’d still be running until it finally choked itself out). i’ve $3,000 into the new computer, $1,000 into corroding wires, & number new batteries as well. at this point it’s a lost cause. every machenic i’ve spoke with states that these electrical problems are extremely common with jeep patriot, compas, & commanders. they recommend for people not to purchase them.

Brief summary: i purchased the 2008 patriot in 2014 with 70k miles. first occurance of vehicle stalling and shutting off occured in 2015 with 80k miles; when the throttle body light/ esp began flashing and sputtered a few seconds before it shut off while in motion. the vehicle restarted with in 10 minutes. i had the throttle body and gasket repaired. since then there has been other random occasions of stalling where the throttle light/ esp and engine light flashes precedding a stall. now 2018-19 (107k miles) i went in for diagnosis because my car stalled agin this time was in busy traffic and throttle light, esp lights, engine light came on before the engine shut off. i have been advised that there is a crankshaft issue that causes the engine light to come on and stall the vehicle intermittently. i had crankshaft replaced the spark plugs changed, the throttle body cleaned and the electical harnesses serviced to yet have the same issue occur when the vehicle stalled 24 hrs after repairs. the engine, throttlebody and esp lights came on again with in 24 hours before shutting off in the middle of a busy intersection of traffic. i am now having a 3rd independent mechanic look into the issue and see if there is anything else that could be causing the intermittent stalling. i spoke with jeep customer care and they stated that my particular vin doesn't have a recall although other patriots of the same class have had same occurence and recall yet there is nothing that they can do for me in this case to address the safety issue or repairs since i am out of warranty. i strongly reccommend that the dot investigate this matter and require jeep to either recall the vehicle or require jeep to repair these vehicles to safe performance on the roads and/or refund me the purchase price as i am still in contract paying for a non functional risky vehicle. *js

My complaint is that a week later after we bought the vehicle the check engine light came on. we went to a mechanic to read us the signs and has so many issues wrong with it and the miles are low on the vehicle but really high on history. water comes inside my vehicle making it flood. also when we drive we try to accelerate and the speed stays at 20mph and makes ticking noise. this is not safe especially when i’m with my kids. i try switching lanes and it takes time to switch lanes or make turn because of how slow the acceleration is.

Vehicle has a recurring problem when driving extended distances or in hilly areas, the transmission will begin whining and transmission temperature warning light will turn on, vehicle will then lose power and will have to be pulled over onto the side of the road for at least 30 minutes before it cools down enough to drive another ten minutes. after having it examined by a mechanic, i was informed that this is a recurring issue with the 2005-2010 jeep patriots equipped with cvt transmissions and requires a complete transmission replacement, and that if it is replaced with the same transmission, i can expect the same issue later on.

Tipm needs replaced. right signal light didn't work properly, ac doesn't blow cold air. i had the ac checked, it's fine. it's the tipm. and the air bag light is on constant. the system is shut off. all this b/c of the tipm. it started to act up while in motion.

My 2008 jeep patriot was parked on my driveway (no trees around to cause a clog) for a month, while on vacation. when i came back, the trunk and the back seat floors were full of mold due to water leaking thru the back dome light. then after doing some research i learned that the leaking dome light is a common problem on the 2007 and 2008 jeep patriots. unfortunately for me it has become a bigger problem than just a leak because my jeep is now full of mold and cannot not be driven for the meantime as it is a hazard for my children health.

In august 2017, the vehicle underwent maintenance with no reported problems or concerns. in may 2018, driving felt unstable. new tires were needed, so an appointment was made along with an alignment to cover bases. the mechanic called and reported that tires could not safely be put on, due to corrosion along the car's subframe (aka crossmember); the mechanic demonstrated by showing how easily perforation occurred. the vehicle was brought to a dealership; while the subframe was covered by warranty, the corrosion was severe enough that balding tires could not be replaced without extensive parts replacement. the vehicle is primarily driven from one garage to another, in various conditions. the vehicle has only been on several dirt roads roughly two years ago, but majority of driving was on highways. the vehicle was purchased used in 2016. specific occurrence and onset of corrosion to subframe not known.

Anytime i fill my gas tank completely, the engine stalls while i am driving, within less than a mile from the gas station. steering wheel locks and i have to turn off the car, wait 10-20 seconds, then restart the car in order to continue driving.

After filling my tank, everytime i leave the gas station the engine sputters and will stall. luckily i'm able to sometimes get over on to the side of the road before being in an accident. this is very dangerous. during the winter months when it is cold outside, i am only able to put in a few cents at a time. it can take over 20 minutes to slowly fill up the gas tank. max it will fill is a few cents at a time before you have to release the handle and then press it ever so lightly to fill up the next part. the engine will often sputter as it feels like it is going to quit running as i'm driving down the highway or interstate similar to what happens after you fill up your tank. the va the only time the jeep is stationary is when i'm filling it up or after it dies after a fuel philip. the vehicle is always in motion either in the city highway city road when it kills after filling up. when it sputters and pills after filling up you are unable to use your wheel as it locks up, very dangerous. my life and my family's life is at risk.

Just bought used jeep 2 days ago, filled tank up with gas, pulled out onto highway, stalled out and jeep died, almost hit by on coming vehicle, thankfully she had enough time to stop and give me the finger. sat there for a few minutes with hazards on, cursing my luck as i've only had this jeep for 5 hours and had to be in work in 20 min. prayed and started the jeep right up and on to work. coming home same night decided to take on interstate to see how it would do at 65-70 mph and holy moly the steering wheel was vibrating like one of the massage chairs in the mall. come to find out on forums that jeep owners are aware of the gas issue (dealer doesn't know or neglected to tell us) as we are first time jeep owners. the vibrating steering wheel --- well that seems to be a known issue too, but our vin doesn't seem to be on the recall list even though i live in pa and fall into the covered years. i am bringing car back to dealership i purchased from to have them correct the issues. we have a 30day 1000 mile warranty. lets see how much of a fuss i have to make over this. filling gas tank and stalling out on highway i'd say that is a safety issue. vibrating steering wheel could fall under the x69 extended warranty---will know more on monday.

Vehicle began jerking on acceleration with loud noise in rear. took to mechanic and was told that the vehicle was not safe to drive due to the fact that the sub frame was rusted out. the mechanic that there was severe crossmember corrosion and to stop driving immediately.

Consitently after filling my gas tank, when driving within a quarter mile, the vehicle will hesitate and buck as if it were about to stall. this only happens initially and doesn't happen again until i refuel. however the bucking has becoming more pronounced each time i fill up to the point now that the engine has completely stalled. thankfully this did not occur while the car was traveling but instead while sitting at a red traffic light. i've read that other people are also experiencing this with their same make/models and it has caused their engines to stall completely while in transit which has caused the steering to lock. this is a safety condition that should be taken seriously before someone gets into a bad accident or worse.

I start having problems with my airbag in my jeep last year. i took my jeep into my local jeep dealer last year. the deal stated that they would have to replace the airbag. the deal that i'm having is that sometimes the light will come on and off while i'm driving. i did some research and i see that their is a recall on this name brand airbag for this vehicle. i'm asking could you please add my vehicle vin number to your recall list thank you.

Takada recall vehicle shutting down while in reverse while dropping my daughter off. all dash lights were on and radio still playing. next day, car shut off in drive while sitting at a busy intersection. both times place vehicle in park and restarted. very unsafe with children.

We recently purchased 2008 jeep patriot and was told by a mechanic that the subframe is rusted through. we were told that it was manufacture defect of the ac drain runs on or through the subframe which accelerates the rusting process. there was a 10 year 150,000 miles extended warranty on this part which has expired but we were unaware of this as it was before we bought the jeep. to make matters worse that was only this past february (for the 10 years) but we still only have 122,000 miles on the jeep. we have taken it to the local jeep dealership and they will not honor the warranty, we were give a quote of $942.76 to fix the problem. they also told us we could call jeep cares at 1-800-992-1997 and they also said they can't help us. we are waiting for a supervisor to call us back from jeep cares but that hasn't happen either. clearly in reading the forums this is a common problem and a huge safety issue. we bought this jeep for our 16 year old son and safety is a major concern for us. we want jeep to work with us is covering the cost of this safety issue. please help....

3 days after my 10 year drivetrain inspection,i drove from cleveland ohh to reno nevada. the transmission overheated approx. 10 times requiring me to pull off iinterstate-80 and wait for it to cool. trucks occasionally weave into the berm where i was parked causing alot of worry. to keep from overheating i had to keep the rpms under 2500. this limited my top speed on level grade to approx. 65 mph in 80 mph speed limit and under 50 mph going uphill. needless to say a lot of trucks came flying up behind me to pass. the jeep dealership in reno determined that the transmission was over filled ( 65ml at 100degrees vs. spec of 25-35 ml.).the dealer that did the inspection in cleveland before the trip said they did not overfill it.. the transmission has overheated only 3 times in the previous ten years. jeep is refusing to compensate me for the $200 diagnostic fee and $122 for a car rental while it was kept overnite at the reno dealership. my regular mechanic does not do transmissions...says they are tricky. so the only way it got overfilled was by jeep at assembly. there has always been a high pitch whrrr when it gets hot. the 2300 mile drive home (after it was drained to the proper level) was uneventful. i tried to overheat it but it did not. there was no whrrring..

I purchased this used jeep patriot on may 24, 2017. i became aware of the transmission problem on first attempt leave on vacation. i had been driving nonstop 45 miles on inclined roadways when the light for "transmission overheating". had to immediately turn around to the dealership. the solution was change fluid charge of $437.00 while on vacation the light came back on. went back into the dealership they said a filter was bent and replaced in august 2017. since then anytime drive on very steep and inclined highways nonstop the transmission light comes on. my last drive on may 19, the highway is very mountainous, steep. after first curvy miles of trip i notice the light. i pulled over to wait for car cool off. trying to get to my dr.appt had to pullover two more times. last time the car stall. after a couple of hours it moved.

After filling up the gas tank the vehicle jerks wildly, several times the vehicle has shut off in the middle of the highway and almost caused a wreck, i am terrified i'll end up causing an accident or possibly killing someone. the issue my mechanic said is in the vapor/fuel separator valve that goes to the charcoal box.

When filling gas tank, pump turns off after every 1/4 gallon of gas, due to faulty integral gas tank vent valve. occasionally resulting from over fill and spilling gas onto ground. this is a common problem with this model of jeep that no amount of maintenance could prevent. jeep's response to my complaint was to remind me my vehicle was out of warranty, but should i have it repaired [$600 to $1000 for new gas tank and condenser] to save the receipt in case there is a future recall for this problem.

Our jeep patriot this past year had been stalling after getting gas. this happens now after every time we get gas. it doesn't matter how much 1/4, 1/2, or full tank. what makes this a serious safety issue, is that is stalls at any time, parked or driving at highway speeds. with no check engine light as a warning, my daughter put gas in approximately a month ago and after an hour driving, it stalled on a busy street traveling at 55 mph, which interrupted the steering as it decelerated on a highway. after towing to a local firestone auto center we were informed that there were too many diagnostic codes firing off to diagnose the problem. since then my husband gassed up the patriot and it stalled at a busy intersection just pulling out of the station. he managed to drive on back roads avoiding traffic where it had repeatedly stalled. he then ran the patriot for an hour in my driveway where it stalled another 10 times in an hour. he continued to run the patriot another hour till the stalling stopped. i am not looking forward to getting gas again, however i have to go through this procedure to prevent a family member from getting involved in a fatal accident.

Rotted subframe

Clock spring defective and not covered by warranty. airbags will not deploy according to internal light due to defective clock spring. clock spring was extended coverage on jeep wrangler, but not patriot.

I can only pump small amounts of gas into my tank before the pump kicks off and i have to start again. also, when the tank is around 1/8 or less full, the jeep runs very rough at any speed. when over 1/4 tank of gas, the jeep runs well.

Went to a mechanic because of noise when turning. the problem was a cracked rusted out subframe assembly that the manufacturer had similar issues with in the 2007 patriot and provided an extended 10year warranty. the manufacturer declined to support the defective part. the vehicle has 66k miles.

The front crossmember was completely rusted through, ended up with a 3-inch diameter hole.

During a repair for another issue, i was informed by the dealership that the front cross member was severely rusted and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. they informed me that the warranty for that same part in the 2007 model of that same car was extended. they informed me that if i used a 2008, the part cost would be over $600 and carry a warranty, if i used the 2007 part, which is compatible with the 2008, the part would cost under $75.00 but carry no warranty. i called chrysler customer service and they advised that that information was true and they would not reimburse me for my expense. they indicated they would set up case #29675811 and inform me of any future actions/recalls for that part. i simultaneously sent a letter to "chrysler customer care" and yesterday received a telephone call confirming their denial. now, how dumb is that? they extend a warranty and replace a defective part for the same model car, one year older, and that part renders the vehicle "unsafe to drive"? the fact that the part rusted so badly in the first place is serious cause for concern. they have refused to reimburse the $465.73 i paid to replace their defective part.

My vehicle was in motion in a 45 mph zone when, twice today, the brakes on my 2008 jeep patriot sank to the floor and braking was significantly reduced. i didn't even have to pump the brakes to get them to regain pressure after letting off the pedal; brakes worked on second attempt. later down the road the failure occurred a second time. when i attempted to pump the brakes to build pressure, it was unnecessary ... the brakes worked on second attempt. my vehicle did not display any warning indicators at the time of the failure; neither the brake like, abs light, or any other lamp on the dash was illuminated when the brakes failed. usually in the rain, my patriot suffers from a stuttering and stalling issue that is reported by many jeep patriot owners, and has not been solved due to the irregularity of the problem. a direct cause for the issue is unknown and cannot be identified by the dealership or my regular mechanic.

Front cross member rotted out and failed state inspection. this cross member is what rack and pinion and control arms bolt too.. vehicle was stationary.

The vehicle was driven to a gas station and was filled up with gas. the fuel was not "topped off" and fueling was stopped when the fuel nozzle shut off. upon leaving the gas station and driving less than 1/4 mile, the engine stalled and shut off while the vehicle was in drive and driving on the highway. the vehicle would not start for approximately 5 minutes. the vehicle was able to drive after this.

My subframe is rotting through and is a major safety hazard for my kids and myself. the car is not that old to have this problem which was told to me by my mechanic.

The air bag light came up and a mechanic with license told me that; that main sensor along side the steering tube did not work and if i have an accident the air bags would not function. tell me if the maker is or not responsible for the problem i'm facing.

While driving my jeep patriot it started to make a whining noise and eventually the vehicle loss power. after sitting on the side of the road a while i started the vehicle and began to drive again with no problem but still i heard the whinning noise. after driving for a while again the vehicle loss power. after finally making it home i immediately got on the internet to research this problem. only to find out that the jeep patriot cvt transmission is crap and the company won't do anything to fix it knowing that their product have problems. i'm disgusted an 09 with 53,000 miles and i need a new transmission. our government and citizens bailed the chrysler company out when they was at risk of losing everything and this is how they pay us back and say thank you, by selling us crap and being knowledgeable of the issues it has and do nothing about it. i was taught buying american is what keeps america employed, but it also leaves u stuck on the side of the road and wasting thousands of ur hard earned dollars on a junk product. i feel as though the chrysler company should address this issue and fix their product its theirs they made it so fix it plain and simple but no after spending thousands on their vehicle they want u to also spend another $3500 in their dealerships on a new transmission this is robbery at its finest and nothing is done about it but again this is america home of the free. free to do whatever u like and screw those that kept u afloat and bailed ur company out when you was on the brink of closing your doors. *tr

My 2008 patriot's front crossmember is rusting through. chrysler has extended the warranty to cover this exact problem on the 2007 patriots, but has not acknowledged the problem on the 2008 model. the crossmember supports the engine and transmission. if it were to fail in motion the results would be catastrophic.

We started to have a loud clunking noise in the front driver side of our car when we drove it. thinking it was something in the wheel, we had a mechanic look at it. he told us the engine cradle was rusted out to the point that it was not safe to drive. had it towed to a jeep dealer, said it was a good thing we didn't try to drive it. it was possible that the engine could have fallen out it we hit a pot hole on the way there. contacted jeep, they refuse to do anything about it. in my research i have discovered that this issue has happened in 2007, 2008, and 2009 jeep patriots.

After filling the gas tank in my 2008 jeep patriot, it will immediately start to "chug" or even have the engine stall completely. this will happen while sitting still or even while driving down the road. very dangerous!!! my mechanic says this is a known issue with chrysler/jeep. he is right. the problems are documented all over the internet. of course, the only fix is to have the entire gas tank replaced which needless to say, is very expensive. jeep/chrysler should take responsibility for this known defect.

Purchased vehicle used 11/2015; first leak in rear compartment light fixture 12/26/2015. 1/24/2016; new leak in front compartment light fixture. seriously, isn't this all one system? if checked thoroughly, shouldn't this have failed 12/2015? very disappointed with dealership. now an additional fee and loss of time on my part.

The vehicle was in motion when suddenly all the lights on the dash light up, the dials went crazy, the car bucked like it was stalling and then the engine cut off. i had the vehicle examined by a professional auto mechanic and he informed me that it was most likely the total integration power module which is common in most jeeps/chryslers and have had a number of issues in recent years. it is an expensive repair to replace the entire tipm, but not doing so means driving the car is unreliable and incredibly dangerous, especially to other drivers who may not expect the car in front of them to suddenly stop.

I am driving a new to me patriot 2008 and am having water leaking in to interior from rear/hatch door. it's a holiday weekend, so will have to wait till monday to contact dealership where it was originally purchased.

I own a 2008 jeep patriot 4x4. the driver side lower control arm failed at 29,000 miles costing over $800 to fix and not covered by warranty. i started doing research online in jeep forums and blogs and found this is a common problem on these vehicles. dealer told me if i haven't happened to bring it in for an oil change and tire rotation, my left front wheel would have fallen off. i don't drive this off-road, just back and forth in city driving to work and for errands and one 1400 mile trip every 2-3 years via interstate. found they had a recall for this same issue in earlier versions of jeeps, but not on 2007 or 2008 patriots. my research found this is a poor design and will keep happening over and over again once it starts. this is dangerous and could get someone killed and chrysler/fiat should stand up to the plate and do a recall on this vehicle. will never buy another vehicle from them ever, period.

I bought 2008 jeep patriot new, this summer (2015), i failed inspection due to a rusted out front steel frame assembly, that holds the steering unit and the lower arms of the wheels, it directly effects the steering. i have looked on the internet and have seen other people having the same problem. i have also looked on the internet and have seen where chrysler was recalling older 2007 jeeps with same problems but not mine. this job cost between $900.00 to $1000.00.

Gas pump shuts off when filling up, it started last month on & off. last 3 days have not been able to put more than 1 gallon regardless of gas pump or gas station. checked internet and many are reporting the same problem and have been told the gas tank has to be replaced at owners expense. i had similar problems with 2005 chrysler 300, it started the same way where i could not put gas, then it started to shutoff while driving or right after filling up, a couple times i almost got into an accident when turning at intersection and engine shutoff after leaving the gas station. the dealer replaced the gas tank for free as similar issues were reported for 2006 chryler 300s,but not 2005 model. 2) also, often after filling up, the engine light will go on usually within hours of filling up while driving and stays on. sometimes it does not go off for days even when driving on expressway for an hr.the engine light when it goes off may stay off for 2-3 weeks. i check the gas cap and it is on tight. previously my mechanic said the engine light was due to a code 420? pointing to the catalytic converter. i am not convinced is the catalytic converter because when the light goes off, it stays off for weeks, and i do allot of driving. on streets and expressway for 30 miles or more daily. i am taking car to dealer for check up next week.

I was at my mechanic getting my 2008 jeep patriot serviced when he called me into the shop to look at the rust issue that the k frame has. the rust has already began to make holes in the structure which were not there at my last change 3 months ago. i began to research the problem and found that it seems to be quite common, so much that they have extended the 2007 patriot warranty. i contacted the dealership to see if there were any open recalls on my patriot and he told me that there wasn't. this is not normal wear and tear even at just under 105,000 miles. the information that i have read online mentions a manufacture flaw that has the a/c drain over the frame. this leaves the owner with a costly repair that is jeeps fault. while the jeep was in the air on the lift we inspected the rest of the under body everything else was rust free but i have enclosed pictures taken today on the lift.

I bought a new 2008 jeep patriot, that i park in garage in winter in the evening when not driving, this past summer (2015), i took my jeep to get inspected and the mechanic at the garage said he can not pass it due to the rusted out sub frame that holds the steering, and front end parts; i called the jeep dealer and they said they have the $600.00 dollar part on hand, which means to me that this is a common part that is failing. since it is a box frame piece it appears that either the part was not cleaned or plated on the inside correctly, since these parts are rusting out from the inside to outside, and by the time you see the rust it is to late and rusted though causing a danger in frame and steering all within just a few years ( 6). all together this was a $900.00 dollar job to fix.

17/october 2015 3:00 pm there was a fire in the fuel line over the motor. over the 4 injector sensors the line cut and splash gasoline. in this moment, the motor was off and the key was not in the ignition. in this moment just an extinguisher was used the damage was a line cut over the motor 2.4. the vehicle was stationary over 10 minute in the yard of club lions of guayanilla town of puerto rico country 00656 area code.

Since the purchase of this used 2008 jeep patriot in 2011 it will stall and shut off after filling up the tank; then after the vehicle is restarted it functions as usual; a few times it re-stalled a second time after filling up and then was able to be restarted. note, i did not over fill the tank. i did inquire about recalls for the 2008 jeep patriot for this issue but was informed there were none. also no jeep dealership or other dealership could fix the issue. this is a safety issue as when this first instance this occurred, i was heading into oncoming traffic when it stalled on me and i almost got into an accident. i found on jeeppatriot.com a forum where many purchaser's of 2008 jeep patriots report this issue with no resolve, only an entry from 1/23/15 noted their mechanic said it was an issue with the rollover valve meaning the entire tank had to be replaced. considering the safety issue of a moving vehicle stalling out after filling up, and the issue being consistent with the 2008 jeep patriot model, i'm asking for inspection into this issue and for a recall to be issued with whatever is the issue with the fuel system/tank. this issue has continued over the duration of me having my vehicle. now more recently my vehicle has a code for an evap leak, and when pumping the gas tank won't take the fuel. i'm taking it to a jeep dealer for diagnosis, but am not sure if its related to the aforementioned stalling out issue.

The tpms sensor nut broke off the sensor itself. this left a hole in the rim where the sensor/stem should be since there was nothing holding it once the tire started losing air, rapidly, it fell in the tire and ruined the tire and resulted in a instant flat. this is the second time on a second tire that this has happened to in the two and a half years i have this vehicle. jeep needs to do a recall or get rid of the so called safety precaution and go back to the basics of a rubber steam and no sensor. this is a severe safety hazard as you have almost no time to slow down and try to get off the road before the tire is toast.

I have 3 parts problem of my car. 1.) my steering wheel are not in the perfect balance.normal steering wheel face 12 oclock but slightly turning to right about 12:30 or 1 oclock position,so when i run at slow speed about 5 mph it turn right about 3 second and when you run it at high speed more worse. 2.) my 2 bearing part is worn out i guess,because i notice that i run at 55 or 60 mph at freeway it make alot of noise like rumbling sound feels like falling apart. the effected part is on the passenger side on the right and the other one is on the back side on the left both of them need to replce soon as possible this request is urgent for my family saftey i have 1 years old daughter riding with me and my wife. 3.) my last compalint is my car brake this is scary i ever experience i cant really hardly discribe. many of day i drove my car run at speed of 25 or 30 mph and when i hit the bump and press the brakes the brake goes all the way its feel like shaking and the brakes barely touch the floor its happen many time so dangerious i check my brake dot oil it was good perfect level. and i also complaint my car body part the hood,the back fender right side and left rusty,dent & scratches hopefully i can get a help soon.

The front windshield wipers randomly stop working while it is raining out. this first started about a month ago. sometimes they are fine for twenty minutes, other times it is 5 minutes. they will completely stop working and fold back down, as if i have turned them off. it has been taken to sears once, and spent two days at the jeep dealership and they were not able to recreate it. i think it needs to be driven on the highway and raining for it to happen, maybe the force of the wind or road is the cause. no one can seem to figure it out and they do not have the technical skill to recreate it, i was told that nothing can be done and to bring it back when it happens .all the computers read that the wipers are fine, yet this keeps happening. not being able to use wipers for even seconds is dangerous, and i am scared to drive now when it rains. i have recorded video on my cellphone of it happening, and still it is no use because they can not recreate it. this is a very stressful and frustrating situation, that could cost me my life if not addressed.

The subframe assembly on my 2008 jeep patriot has begun rusting out. the outer tie rod ends and lower ball joints are also worn. similar issues have been addressed through a parts recall on the 2007 jeep patriot. this degradation of steering/suspension parts on a 2008 model warrant a recall similar to that of the 2007 model.

Took my jeep in for yearly inspection and the mechanic said the cradle frame was almost completely rusted out. through research i found that the 2007 models were given an extended warranty on this problem but when i contacted jeep i was told my 2008 model was not part of that, even though i have the exact same problem. i live in the snow belt of north western pa. and have never had a rust issue like this before. mechanic said i was lucky that the engine and transmission didn't fall out while i was on the road.

Bought a used jeep patriot 2008. my jeep is garage kept, but when i am at work, and it rains, the sunroof leaks. i did some research online and i see that is a common problem. just wanted my vehicle added to let them know my sunroof leaks.

I was driving along about 45 when my tie rod went. barely escaped crashing my car. front tire turned side ways, leaving my car squalling uncontrollable down hill. thank god there wasn't other vehicles around me, or driving any faster than i was! neighbor came rushing out hearing the squealing from my tires, thinking there had been accident! so so scary. it could have killed me! tie rod were replaced just over a year ago, and again they are failing. i'm scared to drive it!! i've replace the tires three times in three years! rotors, break pads, ball joints. it's a money pit! se problems keep repeating. something needs to be done! before someone dies!!

While driving the vehicle at 45 mph, the electronic stability program indicator light came home causing the speed to immediately drop down to 20mph. i was able to pull the car over and turn the engine off. i waited and the car started back up fine. the next day, while driving, the electronic throttle control light came on and immediately shut my car off. i was able to force the steering wheel to turn into a parkin spot. after trying to crank the car, it finally started and the light didnt come on. the next day, had the oil changed and new spark plugs put in. the car drove fine at first and then all of a sudden while on a busy highway, the spped dropped to 10mph. i was able to keep going and stop and turn the vehicle off. it took several attempts to restart the vehicle but finally got it.this vehicle is extremely dangerous and needs a recall to have this taken care of!!! it is going to take someone getting seriously injured to have something happen

Upon taking my wife's jeep patriot for the yearly inspection in western pennsylvania, i was told that the vehicle has a rusted out and rotted crossmember and would not be able to be driven any longer. i was given a 10 day period to have the vehicle repaired or the vehicle would be totally inoperable. i contacted both ron lewis automotive service dept. in addition to chrysler. ron lewis checked the vin number and said that there were no outstanding bulletins for this repair. in addition, chrysler did not offer to compensate for the repair. i assumed that i would have to pay the entire cost for the repair . having the service dept lie to me about there being no recall is a serious matter. this could have cost me my life by being given misinformation by the dealership service dept.. in addition, i had noticed the snapping noise within the first six months of ownership of my new jeep patriot but was told by the service dept at ron lewis that everything was fine.

When taking a trip to the grocery store. which is about 20 miles from our rural home, when driving on the highway, an oncoming semi truck was coming in the opposite direction, and when he passed me, the hood of the jeep literally lifted up about 1/2 inch. the hood didn't come off, the pins actually caught it before that happened, so i contacted the dealership where i had purchased it from and they told me that what they could do was to drill two holes in the hood of the jeep and attach heavy duty cotter pins to keep it secure. advice not taken! i have looked on a few different complaint sites for 2008 jeep patriots and apparently i am not the only person to have had this occur, and one gentleman's hood actually did come off, causing him to crash, luckily he was treated for scrapes and bruises only, but it could have been devastating! there are a lot of things that are good about the jeep patriot, but this is one aspect that i wish i would have known prior to purchasing it, as i am sure this would not have made it to my "gotta have it" list of vehicles. come on jeep! take care of your customers! you didn't hesitate to take the money, so fix the issues!

I purchased my 2008 jeep patriot in summer 2010. in spring 2011 (when it actually rains in texas) i noticed a puddle of water inside the floorboard of my car. i ignored it, but the next time it rained and i was in my car i learned how the mysterious puddle of water got into my car. i took it to a mechanic, and they could not figure out how the water got in. when i tried explaining to them my witness of the water leaking through the dome light, they could not find a leak anywhere. since then, i have had multiple leaks in my car coming from the light inside my car and the piece to the left of my steering wheel. anytime i try to explain it to a jeep dealership/take it to a mechanic to look at it, they "can't find a problem". honestly, after spending hundreds of dollars for people to tell me they cannot find anything, i have given up. over time, lights in the buttons of my radio have burned out, lights in my ac have burned out, but today i am letting my voice be heard... we had a downpour yesterday in texas and i turned my car on this morning to once again the dome light leaking water (not a shocker for me anymore because unfortunately this is the norm) and my radio completely burned out. i cannot turn it on, see the time, nothing. it's gone. i called the jeep dealership this morning and he mentioned he just got off the phone with 2 others who are having the exact same issues with their jeeps. this needs to be recalled and fixed. there is no reason i should be paying hundreds of dollars for someone to tell me there is not a problem when there clearly is. *tr

Less than a year from buying the patriot a severe wayer leakage started from the sunroof, sides and interior light of the jeep. i literally need an umbrella inside the jeep in order to protect me from not getting all wet. this happened continuously and can happen with the jeep parked or running. this make me have to stop driving everytime it start to rain because of my reaction and reflects when it happens driving had made me loose the control of the vehicle and being very close to cause an accident. i've made multiple claims to the dealer and the central offices of the company here in pr and left my jeep multiple times in the dealer in order to solve the problem. they left me without any other car in order to transport myself for more than a week no matter the jeep was in warranty. i also was being mistreating by the manager employees and customer service personnel. i got tired of this situation and decided to a temporary solution made but my personal mechanic. if by any chance i have an accident and get injured or injured someone else i fully responsible jeep and all their co many for this and will take legal actions. i ve been doing research and there are multiple complaints regarding this and there are no solution or recall at all. im just asking myself if they are waiting to have someone to get severe injured or dead in order to do something including all the safety agencies ??? i have multiple photos that can give faith of that im describing its true. *tr

I had brought my 08 jeep patriot to the dealer for a inspection and was told the front suspension cross member was rusting out and should be watched so i came home and did some research online only to find out this part was recalled and given a 10 year unlimited mile warranty on the 07 patriots only in 2014.i want to know why this does not cover the 08 patriots when it is obviously a problem and a safety issue as mine has holes already rusted through it. *tr

I got this jeep 2 months ago from a dealership in san antonio. on maybe about 5 occasions when i was at a stop light the whole engine shook like it was just going to turn off, luckily it never did. that is until yesterday, i got to a stop light heading home from work and it just turned off on me. no shaking this time, no warning at all. the radio and everything stayed on so i knew it wasn't the battery, and it wouldn't even crank when i tried turning the key just stayed silent. mind you since there was no warning and i'm the only one in the car a 5'0" 118 lb woman not going to be able to push it somewhere safe all i could do was throw my emergency lights on and hope i didn't get rear ended with everyone leaving work (5 o' clock traffic was just starting) which i did almost get hit at least 3 times! after a couple minutes i tried again and it turned back on. i pulled into a parking lot and got on the phone with my dealership they're so incompetent though i already know they're going to say they can't find out why it happened. this has never happened to me before and i was freaking out looking in the rear view mirror seeing cars slamming on their brakes. this needs to be fixed asap! *tr

I was driving my 2008 jeep patriot that has a manual transmission. i was coming up on a red light so i got ready to stop. the light turned green before i had to completely stop so i continued through the light and attempted to shift gears. when i put my foot on the clutch it went all the way to the floor. there was no pressure in the clutch at all. i pressed the gas in an attempt to get off the road and out of the way of the vehicles that were coming up quickly behind me. the clutch was completely loose. i had to get out of the jeep and push it to the side of the road. i was so upset and disappointed! i had literally only had the jeep patriot for 1 month. a police officer had to park his patrol car behind me with his blue lights on to warn people i was there so i would not get hit by another vehicle. i had to get the patriot towed to my house. the brake/clutch fluid had made a puddle on the side of the road. well i got a mechanic that i know to come to my house and take a look at it. first of all the clutch line had "slipped off" and had to be put back on. and for that to happen by itself like that is scary. i ordered a new clutch release bearing&slave cylinder assembly. this has been put on and the line bled. that was finished up on thursday and today is sunday. i got in it this morning and it would not let me shift gears. i turned it off and cranked it again. this time the whole front of the patriot was shaking. i turned it off. i pumped the clutch for a bit and cranked it again and it finally worked. i drove to work and all seemed fine. after work when i cranked it, it would not shift gears. i had to turn it off and pump the clutch a bit and crank it again before it would go.i have noticed hundreds if not thousands of people with clutch issues, slave cylinder issues and a ton of other issues with the 2008 jeep patriot. something needs to be done about this!!! *tr

A week after purchasing the 2008 jeep patriot from a used car dealership the jeep stalled after filling up the tank. i called the dealer and he said to put dry gas in the tank. i did and the jeep would jerk a few times after refueling. on 1/14/15 the jeep stalled in the middle of a busy street minutes after my 17 year old filled the tank. thank god she did not get into an accident. this is extremely dangerous since the jeep stalled without warning. i took the jeep to my mechanic but he couldn't identify the issue. i know there are jeep owners who are experiencing the same problem and the manufacturer is doing nothing about it. please investigate before someone gets into a fatal accident. *tr

I purchased the vehicle from jeff schmitt auto group in beavercreek, ohio in march 2014. i took it in for it's regularly scheduled oil change on december 22, 2014. the mechanic noticed a gaping, rusted hole in the subframe and was very concerned for my safety in driving the vehicle any further. he indicated that this amount of deterioration and rust would take well over a year to occur. i've only owned the vehicle for 9 months and my limited warranty was only good for 6 months. it was also noted that the control arms were brand new as they still had the tags attached. these were installed prior to my purchase of the vehicle. i contacted the dealership and they were very unwilling to help. i've filed a complaint with the better business bureau as well as contacted an attorney to assist me in having the dealership repair my vehicle as it was sold in an unsafe condition and not for its intended purpose. *tr

10/16/2008 - purchased new 2008 jeep patriot 04/01/2009 - dome leak reported to dealership - no findings 11/03/2009 - dome leak reported to dealership - seal on sunroof glass was replaced and drains were unclogged 03/14/2009 - dome leak reported to dealership - drains were unclogged 11/18/2009 - dome leak reported to dealership - drains were unclogged 07/23/2014 - dome leak reported to dealership - out of warranty - referred to chrysler - referred back to dealership. evaluation and cost to repair this on going issue is on the customer. there are numerous reports via the internet and a law suit against chrysler (findings unknown) for not notifying customers of the issue. as a consumer and owner, chrysler, dealerships and the service departments have knowledge of the issue and have not found a permanent solution and i was told on 7/24/2014, by the service staff at the dealership not to purchase a vehicle with a sunroof. chrysler should find a permanent solution and the cost should not be placed on the consumer for the repair and "maintenance" of a known design problem with a water leakage in the dome light, to the electrical parts of the vehicle. *tr

I bought my jeep to be a safe family vehicle and instead i worry every time i get behind the wheel because i buckle my seat. i have been in a head on collision before in a jeep wrangler and was fortunate to be okay, now this vehicle's seatbelt unbuckles itself during driving, and when pressure is being applied. i know that it is not "user error" because it happens to every person who has driven my patriot. how am i supposed to feel safe with my infants in the car when i can't even feel safe with just me in it?! *tr

When driving my jeep in the warmer months, if i travel for more than 30 miles or so the transmission light comes on and then the vehicle seizes. this happens without much notice and last week my daughter was almost involved in an accident because the car just stopped in the middle of the road. driving on the san diego 405 freeway is dangerous enough however; i am going to land up getting killed if this is not taken care of. i have contacted my dealer and they say there is nothing they can do about it. will it take a class action suit before chrysler decides to recall this extremely serious condition??? *js

Any time i take a long trip (1hr +) or i'm in heavy traffic my transmission light comes on accompanied with a whining noise and loss of power. i live in phoenix, arizona, so temps in the summer are extremely high. my wife was heading to flagstaff one day in mid august she lost power to our patriot and couldn't go over 40mph. she was stuck in 115 degree heat for over one hour waiting for the vehicle to cool down. she had to repeat this three different time until she made it to her destination. i almost was rear ended when i lost power in the city trying to get off the road. creates dangerous driving conditions!! *tr

I took my jeep patriot 2008 to get two new tires. i was told the rear axle is rusted and car unsafe to drive. thank god i needed tires. with less than 100,000 miles on my jeep about 87,000 i do not feel this is regular wear and tear and is a definite safety concern. *tr

I was driving over the bridge going 40 mph and i notice that the etc light came on. i attempted to turn off the vehicle, wait a few minutes and turn the vehicle back on. the etc light came back on. i had the vehicle towed to the repair facility and service advisor told me that my throttle body went out. the service advisor indicated that none of the dealerships have the part and none of the auto parts have an aftermarket. the service advisor indicated that there is a national back order of 18000 and they don?t know when i can get as part of my vehicle. i called jeep cac and they told me that there is nothing that they can do. this is the first time i owned a jeep vehicle and very upset. of all the vehicles that i owned, i never heard that the dealership not having the part in stock. *tr

We bought this vehicle for our son, who is off at college. traveling thru kansas on i-70 returning from vacation, the transmission overheated. vehicle slowed to 20 mph in traffic with no warning. had to drive on shoulder to exit ramp and let the transmission cooled down. took it to dealer and they could not find any diagnostic codes, so they couldn't fix it. this has happened 5 more times since then. most recently, traveling in 25 degree weather at 70 mph. took it back to dealer and was told they couldn't fix it. finally, they admitted that he cvt transmission is the problem, but they won't fix it. chrysler needs to step up their customer service and fix their poorly designed vehicles. but they are unwilling to work with the customer. the vehicle resale value is in the tank because of this problem. this is a very dangerous situation for any body driving this vehicle.

The car was in drive, however the gas pedal was not accelerating the car. it jerked several times and felt like it was going to stall then the electronic throttle light came on for a short time then went out- i took it to my mechanic he confirmed the car needed the throttle body however there are none on long island there are more then 450 on backorder coming from overseas!!!! it has happened intermittently for the past week and i cannot get it fixed. i am afraid the it is dangerous. apparently if i am not able to find this part on long island this may be an issue that jeep chrysler should be addressing. there are only 60k miles on this car. *tr

I parked my manual transmission in the bank flat parking lot. i put it in n' and pulled the e brake and placed my keys in the cup holder of the jeep. i walked inside and waited in line until someone told me a red jeep was going backwards down the main road. i ran out of the bank, down the road to find my jeep stopped by a brick wall with the brake still pulled. not only did it drive backwards on a very busy road it made a left hand turn out of the parking lot and then again at the light where it ran into the wall. lucky for everyone it was a good driver and did not hit anyone or any car. two men who recovered the jeep where shocked to find no one in it. *tr

I own a 2008 jeep patriot. the mileage is 63592 miles. recently the airbag warning light started intermittently flashing and chiming and the dealership told me that the clock spring needed to be replaced. i had that done at a cost of $614. this car has never been in an accident and there is no reason for a safety device like its airbags to have a problem. i feel that chrysler should be paying for replacement of the clock spring. *tr
