2016-06-09	VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY	Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Audi A8 and S8 vehicles. The sunroof glass on the affected vehicles may not be properly secured to the sunroof frame. As a result, the sunroof glass may detach from the car while driving. Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install additional adhesive between the sunroof glass and frame, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 4, 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen’s number for this recall is 60C3.

Water Leak. Water entered the cabin of the vehicle under the carpet and drowned the electronic computer controls that are mounted on the floor. Audi believes some leaves clogged the cowl drains which may have caused water to enter the vehicle. They advised me these drains should have been cleaned every 2 years or 40,000 miles. They advised me that this should be part of regular maintenance. I told them I paid extra for maintenance and I now find out this is NOT part of their maintenance. At the time of the incident, the car had 15,300 miles on it and was not 2 years old. Just prior to the incident, the car was in for regular maintenance service and they did not clear the drains. They claim I should have asked to have the drains cleared as regular maintenance even though it’s not in the maintenance book. They claim I should have asked to have the drains cleared even though it wasn’t on the long checklist they provided me at the time of the last service. When asked why they didn’t offer to clear the drains (even for a fee), they responded they don’t offer it, as the owner must ask. When asked (if it’s not in the maintenance book and not on your checklist, then how should I have known to ask?) – they responded that they usually tell customers about this recommended maintenance. When asked if they didn’t tell me about it, then how would I know to ask? They couldn’t provide a direct answer but referred me to the owner’s manual where it states to clear any leaves from under the hood. When I told them I always open the hood, doors, and trunk after each wash and wipe down any dirt or debris – and yet this problem still occurred, they claimed that even small debris and pollen that falls below the cowl panel gets crumbled up into dirt-like substance and clogs the drains. When asked how would I know to clear the drains, they responded you really don’t because you can’t see or reach the drains. You just have to bring it in for service. If I don’t know this is regular maintenance, can’t see the drains, can’t tell if they need clearing, and can’t reach them or clear them myself, how do I know what to do? They said this is a “common problem” and everyone knows about it. They suggested I contact my insurance. After contacting my insurance, they said they would pay, but the car has to be titled as “Water Damaged” which could mean the car was in a flood, under water, to the next potential buyer. They did advise that it would most likely reduce the car’s value substantially.
