My husband and I purchased a brand new 2005 Saab 9.5 wagon Aug. 1, 2005. With a mere 600 miles on the odometer en route to Buffalo, N.Y., the check engine light came on, we lost power to the accelerator in the middle of the interstate with no warning and we were forced to jeopardize our safety on the shoulder of I-390 waiting for help.Saab service technicians pinpointed the problem to the fuel system since there was no fuel pressure. The technicians inspected the fuel pump and found a gooey substance inside. After a closer look, they discovered a 2-foot piece of packing tape inside the gas tank. Technicians replaced the fuel pump and siphoned the gas out of the tank in an attempt to correct the problem. This answer may have satisfied Saab, but it did not satisfy two consumers who just dropped a substantial amount of money on their dream car and ended up stranded on the side of the road just two weeks after their purchase because of an unnecessary oversight by Saab.We understand that mistakes happen, but when an error of this magnitude occurs, Saab must be held accountable. We immediately contacted Saab

Ignition switch is in the center console so that if there is a passenger or item (ex: handbag) hits the key, it will shut off the car while in drive. All power is lost, (brakes, steering, lights, etc). there is NO locking mechanism on the ignition switch to prevent it from being bumped into the off position. Saab USA is saying that all their vehicles have the ignition in the same spot, and denied my request to have the ignition switch replaced. They said that it IS NOT defective. I\’m not arguing that the actual module is defective, I\’m arguing that it is a design flaw that now I have to worry about anyone in my passenger seat moving or one of my kids tossing something from the back seat that may hit the key and shut the car off. I have owned 4 Saabs over the last 11 years and requested from Saab Cars USA for a termination of my lease, which they refused. This has happened 4 times. The 3rd time resulted in a accident. Any help or advice on how to proceed with Saab USA would be appreciated. The location and height of the ignition switch is different in this model then in previous models. When sitting, it\’s hip level which is causing the problem. I told my story to one of my clients (I\’m a hair dresser) during her last visit. She has owned Saabs for years. She was in yesterday and told me that the day before she had this happen to her on the highway. She remembered what I had told her otherwise would have thought it was just a \"fluke\". She was so upset, she went to the local dealership (both our vehicles where purchased there) and spoke with the owner. He told her that they\’ve only had a couple issues like this over the past 2 yrs with no accidents resulting (completely wrong). She is following up with a call to Saab USA to file a formal complaint. Also, another person in town owns 2 Saab vehicles. When I told him what happened to me, he told me that he has experienced the same problem in both vehicles (2003 9-5 and 2005 9-5 wagon). He will also file a complaint w/ Saab USA.
