2014-03-07	ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE	The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have ‘US9377’ stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail. Remedy: Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.
2008-04-07	FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY \| FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY	VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING 412,000 MY 1999-2005 PASSAT (5TH GENERATION) VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND PRODUCED AFTER JUNE 14, 1999. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE AN UNDERBODY HEAT SHIELD THAT CAN BECOME DAMAGED. IN ADDITION, AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS MAY HAVE A FUEL LINE (1.8T ENGINES ONLY) OR FUEL TANK VENTILATION VALVE (4MOTION/ALL WHEEL DRIVE ONLY) THAT CAN LEAK DUE TO FRACTURE. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL ADDITIONAL UNDERBODY HEAT SHIELDS ON VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS TO COVER THE POSSIBLY DAMAGED AREAS AND FLASH ALL 1.8T ENGINES WITH A PRECAUTIONARY SOFTWARE UPDATE. DEALERS WILL ALSO INSPECT AND ADJUST THE FUEL LINE ROUTING ON 1.8T VEHICLES AND THE FUEL TANK VENTILATION VALVE ON 4MOTION/ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES, AND REPLACE COMPONENTS IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 13, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.
2007-02-20	EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH	ON CERTAIN PASSENGER, WAGON, AND CONVERTIBLE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH OR WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL, A BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH MAY MALFUNCTION IF IT WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 27, 2007, AND WILL BE CONDUCTED IN SEVERAL STAGGERED MAILINGS THROUGH SEPTEMBER 21, 2007. VEHICLES WITHIN THE MAKE, MODEL, AND MODEL YEAR OF THIS POPULATION MAY BE INVOLVED IN EITHER THIS RECALL OR 06V-183, BUT NOT BOTH. THE REMEDY IS THE SAME FOR EACH RECALL. 2004-12-15	FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL	ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE HIGH PRESSURE DIESEL PUMPS WERE PRODUCED WITH AN IMPROPER FASTENER, WHICH COULD ALLOW DIESEL FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE PUMP. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE DIESEL PUMP. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 8, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

I recently bought a used VW Passat wagon 1.8 turbo w/ A/T. Everything appeared pretty solid with the car during my initial inspection & test drive. The DAY after I bought it I started noticing a very strong smell of fuel. Since the previous owner had recently had the timing belt & water pump replaced I assumed maybe the smell was due to the service & would eventually fade away. The first time I filled the gas tank there was gas pouring out from underneath the car when it reached the full mark. Gave me reason for concern so I did some research & discovered this had been a factory recall issue. I discovered this particular car had already had the manufacture repairs made which supposedly corrected the problem. It is very obviously not fixed, or has developed the same problem again. I also discovered that the low beam headlights don’t work at all. Apparently this is due largely in part to the DRL system which turns the low beams on when ever the car is driven. I read where some people have simply removed the DRL relay thus disabling that feature & allowing total control over the on/off of the headlights. I have purchased new low beam bulbs but am weary about installing them only to realize the problem still exists. Then there is the other major problem that VW/Audi have already been sued for is the problem of coking deposits (sludge) in the crankcase ultimately starving the engine of it’s oil supply & causing unexpected engine failure. Had I realized the troubles that came with this car I never would have bought it. It just doesn’t seem fair that even though this is a used vehicle that the manufacture should be held accountable for these issues which continue to be an apparent permanent problem. Although the sludge thing doesn’t seem to be an issue with this car as of yet. But the fuel system fault is a very potential fire hazard & should NOT be allowed on the market (used or brand new). As it stands I feel the Corp. should be responsible for at least the fuel system problem. I’m afraid to drive the car I just bought for fear it is going to burst into flames at any given moment. Due to family situation of employment & school schedules I have had no choice but to use the car to take my child to & from school. I am so worried about the possibility of fire that I bought a fire extinguisher to put in the car. I have never bought a new car & have had very good luck relying on my knowledge & mechanical tendencies & have never encountered a vehicle with more problems than this VW. I’ve owned 5 other VW cars & have been quite satisfied with their economy & endurance. This is the worst deal I’ve ever made in my vehicle buying & owning days. Is there any hope of possibly getting VW to stand behind their products no matter how many times it takes to get it fixed RIGHT!!! Normally I would accept any normal wear & tear on a used vehicle as being just that…NORMAL wear & tear. These problems are not subject to that category. They were manufacture faults in the first place & just because they settled a CAS these problems continue to exist in these vehicles therefore I feel the manufacture needs to be held accountable for allowing such a trouble ridden, potentially very hazardous vehicle to be on the market used or new. Essentially it seems criminal to me! Any help or advice on the matter you may be able to offer will be greatly appreciated. Please know that I am not a greedy “gold digger” out to get rich off the misfortune of others. I am however an advocate for making sure big corps. don’t screw the general public, including me & my family.

To whom it may concern, We purchased a car from Bob’s Dodge in July 2008. We brought the car home for the weekend on the weekend of July 4th 2008. After driving it for a day, we noticed that the car was bucking and that it didn’t appear to be running correctly. So, my husband brought to work to have his mechanic look at it. Upon looking it over, he said that the car had something wrong with the transmission and brakes and appeared to be in an accident. So, we called Bob’s Dodge and spoke to John (one of the owners) He told us that he would fix all the issues with the car for us and if it wasn’t 100% to our satisfaction, we did not have to take the car. So, we left the car with Bob’s for a month. While there, they took it to Valenti Motors in Watertown CT. It sat there for weeks! We were told that they could not find anything wrong with our car so they gave it back to us. Knowing something was still wrong, we told them we wanted the car to go to another dealer but Bob’s would not take it to Danbury VW. Without agreeing to purchase and take the car, the dealer submitted the paper work anyway. Continuing to drive the car, we noticed more and more problems. We took it back to Bob’s numerous times in hopes they would fix the car. Each time, we were told that nothing was wrong with it. We specifically asked the head service manager to check the brakes because they didn’t seem right. He told us they were fine. Finally, in November 2008 we brought the car to Danbury VW in Danbury CT. Upon their inspection of the car, they found the following issues: -The CV boot is being held on by a zip tie. – The axel has very little oil left on it and when the oil runs out, the axel will seize up. -The motor mount has either been tampered with or removed causing issues. -The booster pipes have a leak in them causing power failure when driving the car. – The car has aftermarket brakes on the car which slide out of place when stopping. You need to almost hit the floor with the brake petal before it stops. Danbury VW said it is dangerous to be driving this car like this. -The exhaust has a leak in it We also found that when it rains or is wet outside, the back passenger’s side of the car has water damage causing the inside to fog up. The floor gets soaked. These are all issues we were told we unsafe and we should be very careful in driving the car. We were also told that there is no way that we could have caused this damage to the car in the time we had it meaning Bob’s Dodge sold this car to us like this. We would either like Bob’s Dodge to take this car back and wipe out our financial agreement on this car or for them to pay for the entire cost of this car being repaired at Danbury VW. We do not want this car fixed at Bob’s as they have proven that they know nothing about mechanical issues. We are seeking either one of the above solutions as soon as possible as we continue to drive this car because we need a way to get to work and it is just time before this car gets into an accident due to all the failures. We feel it is Bob’s responsibility to fix this issues, not ours. We were given written promises for these issues and we want them fixed as promised. We can not provide you with invoices from this dealer (Bob’s Dodge) because they refuse to provide them to us. We have called and asked and each time been told they wont give them to us. We do have records from Valenti and Danbury VW. We can provide when needed. We need help with our situation as soon as possible and would like someone to help us if possible.
