I am the owner of a 2004 Toyota Solara. At 131,000 miles it has developed a major oil sludge/oil gelling issue on March 27, 2015. It was under their extended warranty program until 77,000 miles & I have carefully maintained it. I change the oil & filter every 5,000 miles.
The engine is compromised & necessitates a $6,000 overhaul to get it running. I want to bring this to your attention.

brakes

Caliper fell apart, brake pads fell out, or vice versa. Brakes failed completely while going down hill. Was able to shift to low and slow it down until bottom of hill. Was on the way to dropping off at shop to have fixed.

This is for the V6 Solara. During cruising speed, if the driver hits the gas pedal all of a sudden, the car will need an extra 2-3 seconds to figure that out and then downshift. Very dangerous when trying to merge out onto freeway or during sudden emergency maneuvers to avoid accidents. Toyota dealer reset the ECU the first time I took the car in. Then told me to let the car “re-learn” my driving habit. After 1000 miles of driving, the same lag comes out again. This time, Toyota dealer said nothing can be done because it’s working as designed. If it is designed like that, then I seriously think this is a design that will impair the safety of this vehicle. There are also a lot of complains about this issue in the Lexus ES330 (which I believe uses the same engine and transmission).

Car pulls to the left. Flemington Toyota told me that this was a defect on certain models with certain vin numbers, they “fixed” it and it took approx. 4 hours (1 week after I bought the car). I took it to a closer Toyota (Lawrence) for the same problem approx 2 months later for the same thing along with a problem with the engine, at 2,000 miles my car hesitated and stalled, afterwards it ran rough and loud.

Car pulls to the left, Toyota can\’t fix and doesn\’t know what the problem is. They don\’t want to refund my money. This is a problem with all 2004 Solara\’s.
