2004 DODGE Intrepid

I left work at 9pm on a Monday evening and my car wouldn’t start. At first I thought it was possibly the battery or the starter. I purchased a new battery and also had the starter checked only to be told by several different mechanics that the engine was seized. I am a single mother of 4 kids. I cannot afford to purchase a new engine nor do I feel I should have to since I did nothing to cause this problem. There was no forewarning. The oil has always been checked and changed accordingly. Now I am without a car in a town with very little public transportation. How am I to get myself or my children to Dr appointments? or to the Grocery store? I counted on this car to be reliable and dependable only to find out that this is a problem that Chrysler/Dodge is fully aware of in this engine.

Lower engine knock probable catastrophic failure. Regular oil changes no oil light or check engine light, just started knocking and was diagnosed with lower engine problem.

Purchased the car from Pat Clemons in Boone on 12/20/2010 was told what a great car this was. Within 3 weeks and 600 miles the car would not get heat to the cabin changed out thermostat no change after a few week of no heat noticed water dripping from motor after reaching operating tempature, told it needed a water pump and that would take care of both problems $1200.00. Immediately notice a knock coming from the engine after it warmed up, changed oil put in the recommended weight and used synthetic knock worsened and now oil light comes on at idle. Only now does the mechanic suggest I go on Internet and research the 2.7L V6 and decide when to schedule the engine change. Thanks a lot a—–e!!!!!

DREADED ENGINE SLUDGE!!! 2 repair attempts on non related problem caused total engine failure. Mechanic stated so much sludge in engine that he was suprised it ran at all and was nervous about completing repair but had no choice since water pump repair had already started. Within an hour of waterpump repair completion, enough sludge had been disloged to cause catastrophic failure . Who designs an engine that takes 8hr to replace a simple water pump anyway (only chrysler poor design) ?!?!

Drove 4 hours (one-way) for family vacation, temperature gauge rose after being stuck in traffic on interstate. Also, car began to thump (bump) & get stuck in low gear when decreasing speed to stop or make a turn. Checked coolant & drove back home (4 hrs) & took car to shop at local dealership. ECM was replaced. Picked up & kept car a couple of days when shift problem occured again. Had codes read at local auto business; transmission code showed; took to local transmission shop; had transmission rebuilt. Car sat for 2 months after repair. When I arrived to pick it up, car wouldn’t start. Had it towed to engine repair shop & they diagnosed it as engine locked up.

While driving on the highway, engine began to make a scraping/grinding noise. Temperature gauge shot up to top of scale. Pulled car to side of road. Towed to Dodge dealer. Repair shop diagnosed as blown engine (“eating the insides out”). Took to a second shop (not dealer). Got same diagnosis. Shop said this was not uncommon for 2.7L 6 cylinder Dodge engine. No warning. Had been running perfectly fine. Just had oil/filter change. Maintenance on vehicle has been kept up. Had to replace engine.

We purchased this car and received it in September, 2005. In October, the engine started knocking, we took it in to the dealer who informed us the engine needed to be replaced due to sludge. They told us that the car had never been maintenanced. When we were able to obtain some of maintenance records from the second owner, demonstrating the car had indeed been serviced regularly, we were told that unles we had receipts from every oil change,every 3000 miles, this would not be covered under warranty, despite a 7 year/70,000 mile standard power train warranty.

the2.7 engine in the dodge intrepid cut off on me on a number of ocasions.i dont know how i can buy a newer model car and have the engine go out on me.i cant afford to get it fixed right now its at the dodge dealership just collecting dust and they want 4000 to 8000 thousand dollars to fix it.even if i had the money i still wouldnt put another 2.7 in it the engine is faulty and it should be banned

The oil light keeps coming on, its burning through oil, acting very sluggish and blowing white smoke out tail pipe. I still owe $16,000 on this car and now it needs over $6,000 in repairs. I cannot afford all this!!!

The engine made noises on 9/21. There are about 62,000 miles on the car. I took it in today to get it looked and three different mechanics told me that it is the motor (something with the rods) and that I probably need a new one. The amount was quoted at 5,000 to 6,000$, and I don’t have that kind of money.

The engine completely seized up on me on the middle of the interstate at night in heavy traffic almost causing a crash. The engine seized up from a oil problem known with the dodge/chrysler 2.7L engine.

Sludge problem all over the sensors. Had to replace 2 different sensors. I have to flush the oil system every 4 weeks and get a oil change every 4 weeks. The car needs a new motor to fix all problems at a cost of $7000.

Purchased car had no problems until leaving work. Took car into dealership only to hear engine has sludge build up. I was told that I didn\’t maintain car of oil changes which I have receipts to show. I\’m under the warranties but since this is a well known problem with these cars they won\’t fix it. I\’m left with a broke down car, paying $450.oo a month for a vehicle that\’s not mobile. I feel someone should take care of these problems before people start getting injured if engine breaks down while driving.

Premature engine failure due to lack of internal engine lubrication.

over heating, leaking oil, leaking antifreeze, leaking power steering fluid. Had power steering line replaced. in March of 2008 cost close to $400

on august 10 a window regulator was installed in the vehicle. the part is supposed to have a 12 month 12000 mile warranty. since the regulator is bad again and it has only been ten months and current mileage is 73550 i am trying to get the part replaced by mopar. i am being told that since they installed a regulator in april that it is the only part with a warranty and not the part that was installed in august.

Oil light just started to comes on at low RPM, it is NOT low on oil and has had the oil changed every 3000 mile by jiffy lube, and similiar places. I read on the internet about the problems with this car, so I went to the dealer and I told the person who received my car what I read about this cas that it has a crapy engine and he said \"pretty much\" they are going to check it next monday,02/21/05 but I think is going to happen what happened to every body else with this problem. will see.

Oil light comes on when stopped at light or sign. Goes off when movement is resumed. Had auto service center verify issue and make recommended repairs. Oil sending unit was replaced ( orignal equipment not after market ) but issue was not corrected. Service description from invoice is as follows: ” The oil light comes on intermittently. Inspect for customer concerns, after test drive oil light would come on at idle. Research did find a history of bad sending units for this model of vehicle, inspection did find sending unit was leaking. Remove and replace oil sending unit and test drive. After test drive found no change in customer concern, advise customer further testing and inspection would be needed on internal engine.”

Vehicle is a 2004 Dodge Intrepid SE with the 2.7L V-6 motor. Cost of repair – $186.47

Oil light comes on at low RPM, it is NOT low on oil and has had the oil changed every 3000 mile by me. Although I now have been told that unless I have the oil changed by a shop the warranty is void, where does that come from?? At this point the car is in my driveway since mid November, I won\’t drive it because I know it will blow up without proper oil pressure. The shop tells me the motor has sludge and needs to be flushed ($1200) but they won\’t tell me it will fix the problem?? I can\’t afford that, nor can I afford to make $550 payments on a car that sits in the driveway. I was pulled aside by one of the mechanics who told me in confidence to get rid of it, there was no fixing it. So, at his request and starting information I have found numerous websites and untold people in my situation. I have no choice in this matter, I am in the process of filing for Bankruptcy to get out from under the $23,000 on the car. Buying something for that amount I expected it to last as long as my 64 Chevy Truck, which I do all the upkeep on. ALL original, motor idles at 300 RPM, oil pressure is 30-45 PSI. Now you tell me, do I take care of my vehicles. Dodge is blowing smoke up my tail and I don\’t care for it. Sign me up for the lawsuit.

Oil light comes on at idle speed when engine is hot. This problem occured once before and then again immediately after a regular oil change at my local Dodge dealership. I took the car back to the dealership and they said that there was sludge build-up in the oil passages of the engine. My husband told the service manager that he had heard of this problem with the 2.7 litre engine and that it occurs even with regular oil changes. The manager said they would check the sending unit to make sure that the problem was not electrical. Even if that was the problem he suggested that it would be a good idea to flush the engine and add a synthetic oil.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROKEN INTO TWICE AND THE IGNITION HAS BEEN POPPED OUT TWICE AND THEREFORE LEADING ME TO PAY OVER 2,000.00 TO GET THE NEW IGNITIONS PUT IN. THEN I RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION FAILING AND HAVING TO SHELL OUT ALMOST 3,000.00 IN ORDER TO GET THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THEN YESTERDAY AUGUST 23, 2007 MY ENGINE FAILED DUE TO OIL STARVATION BECAUSE OF THERE BEING A RECALL ON THE 2.7 ENGINES.

My husband was driving the car Sunday night when he heard a knocking sound coming from the car. He didn’t pay it to much attention until the noise got really loud. Since he was in an area where there were no lights he continued to drive on so he could find an area that was well lite. The next thing he knew the car just cut off while it was still in motion and he pulled over to the side of the road where the was a cut-off to get the car out of the way of traffic.He attempted to re-start the car but nothing happened.

MY DODGE INTERPD WAS MANUFACTURED 5-31-2003. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED THE OTHER DAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS NOT A 2004 BUT IN FACT IT IS A 2003. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO ABOUT THIS OR IS IT TOO LATE.

My car started making a very loud noise so I pulled over and called someone to come and pick me up. I called the warrenty people, but of course they are only available from 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, because no one has issues after 5pm on a weekday with their car. I called on friday, July 1, 2005 and spoke with a lady about my warranty and she told me to have the car taken to the closest Dodge dealership. I had the car towed that day and was then told that because of the holiday, my car would not even be looked at until Tuesday, July 5. I was contact on Wednesday, July 6 and “advised” to put a new engine in my car because of engine slug. The approx. cost of the repair would be between $6,000-$7,000. Of course, I can not afford to pay this so I’m just having my car towed home on Thurday, July 7 until I can figure out what to do next. I have read hundreds of complaints about this same issue and I too have been told that I will have to pay for this out of pocket because the factory warranty does not cover this issue. Also, because I can not provide receipts for the oil changes no one from the company will even talk to me.

My 2004 Intrepid SXT with 22,600 mi engine blew up on the interstate while doing 60 mph on Nov 21.. The engine light has come on many times in the 2 yrs I have had the car Dealer always said don

Low oil pressure. 4 ~ 5 psi at idle when engine is hot. Engine has not failed, but oil pressure light is on in the dash. So, I feel the lubrication system has failed, but no mechanical damage yet. I will not take the vehicle back to the dealer.

LOUD TICKING NOISE BEGAN AND ENGINE LOCKED UP

it just died on the freeway not once but twice after it started up (before it died the second time) loud knocking from the engine and i had it towed to my house checked oil and sludge is there !!! not surprised !!! i did a google search about a blown head gasket and got thousands of hits on this engine and it having sludge in the engine….

I was warming up my vehicle for work and when i went out it had stopped running. I knew I couldn\’t have ran out of gas, and the vehicle would not start up. It just had a clicking sound. I had to have it towed and the mechanic told me the engine was locked. I didn\’t have any warning at all. A light did not even come on.

I was sitting at a red light and the oil light flashed on, I would pull off and the light would go out. This went on for about 2 miles, I checked the oil and it is full, I keep up with my oil changes on a regular basis. I call the Dodge dealership to make an appointment, I tell the service guy the problem, he immediately tells me, well you have the 2.7L engine and it sounds to me like it\’s a motor problem. I tell him I still have my warranty, he tells me, well that may be, but if we have to break down the engine, etc, it won\’t be covered under the warranty. Of course at this point I\’m fuming, this car is a 2004, with a warranty, and he is telling me, \"You may be out of $7000\". This is my ONLY transportation to and from work. He states this has been a problem with a lot of the 2.7L engines, if so why isn\’t Chrysler paying for this? I also saw on my local news station a report they did on this same situation and how people are being stuck with these high maintenace bills and they are not extending the warranty. If you want somone to continue to buy your product, wouldn\’t you go out of your way to help them?

I was driving around 40 miles per hour and all of the sudden the car would go no faster than 10 miles per hour the steering wheel locked up and then I pulled off. I tried to restart the car with no luck. The check engine or oil light never came on in the car. I had it towed and looked at and was told the engine seized which cost me 5,547.87 out of my pocket even though I had a warranty.

I started having problems several months ago. While I was driving on the Interstate at about 70 mph all of a sudden the car just shut off. I am lucky that nothing happened to me or my children. This problem happened several more times after that. I took it to the dealer and after three attempts they finally took care of the problem. It supposedly was some sort of sensor.Now about three days ago I noticed that I have no heat! The inside of the car will not warm up i.e in the morning when let it run for a while before I leave! Oh yes, and my oil light keeps coming on even though I just had my oil changed (2 weeks ago),I always change my oil every 3000 miles. I just left the dealership “again” and the mechanic finally admitted that he is concerned, especially with the oil light! Before they claimed to have never heard of any problems with the Intrepids. So, I was told that this repair will be up to $800.00, because my warranty only went up to 37000 miles!

I purchased the car used from Enterprise with a limited warranty. The car had 30,000 miles at that time. At 38,000 miles I was driving north on 131 near Howard city and the car lost complete power at 70 miles an hour It a wonder I wasn\’t being in the fast lane. It was a sensor it the engine. The engine light came on in late 2004 and the dealership was not able to figure out what the problem was with a rough idle. In October 2006 the car would not shift from second to third gear. The transmission had to be replaced at a cost of $2700. Now it is January 2007 with 73,000 miles on the car and the dealership is telling me the the long block needs to be replaced which is the same as the engine which is about $5,000 dollars. I have talked to 3 different mechanic and the 2.7 enigine is one of the worst engines Dodge has on the market

I purchased my 2004 Dodge Intrepid in December 2004 as a new car. About four months later the engine light came on and I took it to the dealer who said that my $2,000.00 warranty would not cover the repairs which I paid a little over a hundred dollars for a diagnostic test. The engine light continued to come on. Around October 2006 the oil light came on. I took it to for an oil change at a Valvoline shop. They showed me the oil and was caked up around the oil stick. Then I took it to a Dodge dealership. I was told that my engine needed to be replaced to the tune of over $6,000.00, and they could not guarantee if that would fix the problem. They suggested that I have the oil changed as much as possible. When I left from the dealership smoke begain to flood out the exhaust pipes. After exiting the freeway, more smoke and the engine began to lose power and began to make a rattling sound which it continues to do.

I purchased a used 2004 Dodge Intrepid in Nov 06 from my in-laws. On January 3,2007 I was on my way home from work and my engine threw 2 rods and seized up. On 3-16-2006 when the car was still my in laws my husband was using it, he took it to WalMart for an oil change. The tech comments said the car was leaking oil, but no one ever brought that to our attention. After my engine seized up, I found the website with all the information on who to contact. I began calling and emailing people like crazy. I then had a response from Diamler Chrysler. Regina Knox called me. She asked me to fax her the oil change paperwork I had. I had to of course contact my mother in law to get their paperwork too. I faxed it all over to Mrs. Knox. She called me a few days later saying that I knew my vehicle had an oil leak since the tech comments on the WalMart oil change noted vehicle is leaking oil. Even tho the oil change before WalMart said it was full, WalMart pre service said it was full and the oil change I had done on 12-9-06 said it was full. I then went after WalMart! Since their techs are not ASE certified mechanics, I called the District Manager Zachary Hinton. He put in a claim for me, of course, it was denied. I spoke with Bill Connor in the claims office and he told me it was my fault for not looking at the tech comments. I have since then filed a complaint through the Better Business Bureau here in Kentucky. And I will be filing a complaint through the Kentucky Attorney General\’s Office as well. I have filed a complaint with Diamler 1-800-992-1997 on 2-28-07 the complaint was denied. I called the ISG on 3-2-07 and of course they told me they were not handling 2004 Intrepid\’s. I forgot your email said to speak with Kris in the warranty division. I tried to get the Kentucky Zone Rep to contact me, of course, he hasn\’t. Now the somewhat good side to this story. Luckily it was near tax time when this happen. My husband and I both work. So we had a very nice return coming since we have a child and he has a daughter to claim. My engine has been replaced by Advanced Engine 1006 Ulrich Ave Louisville, Ky 502-968-7500. Jack Holloway is the owner and Seth is the Office/Garage Manager. I do have pictures on my digital camera, as well as the ones that Jack took before my engine was sent back for the core.

I PURCHASED A 2004 DODGE INTREPID ON 6-16 OF 2006 SOON AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I EXPERIENCE ENGINE PROBLEMS, MY CAR WONLD CUT OFF WHILE I WAS IDLING. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE AN INSPECTION DONE TO FINE OUT THAT MY ENGINE IS FULL OF SLUDGE AND THAT THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY, NO WHERE IN THE WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS IS ENGINE FAILURE TO EXCESSIVE SLUDGING SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED THEREFORE I\’M DEMANDING THAT THE WARRANTY PAY THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO MY ENGINE.

I am working on getting copies of all my repair bills. I had to replace the oil sensor.

Engine Sludge. On January 23 2007 my car was in the service department at Brighton Chrysler for this problem. Their recommendation was to remove oil pan and clean out sludge. I had them do that it cost me $379.50 out of my pocket They told me to get oil changes every 3000 miles(I had been doing this since I bought the car). After that trip to the dealership I was getting oil changes about every 1000 miles. Finally in September the car engine started making awful noises. On September 5 2007 we had to park it. Vehicle not driveable since then. This has been a nightmare.Chrysler is well aware of this problem and has been since 1998. How can they still be selling these cars? We have had all of the oil changes done in a timely matter and have proof of every one of them. Yet Chrysler is still refusing to fix the problem. How many times do we have to file a complaint? The sludge in the engine is not the fault of failure to change the oil-it is the faulty engine Chrysler has manufactured. When are they going to admit to this? Yes they have admitted to wrong doing up to 2002, but what about the newer engines? We even paid more for these cars then the 1998-2002 yet they still won\’t help us. It cost us about $1,000 a mile to drive this piece of junk car. We took very good care of it and this is how we get treated by Chrysler? No wonder they are having so many problems selling cars. Now I know why people are not buying American made cars. Please will someone help us get this car fixed? We are not asking much, just fix the engine. My car is in beautiful condition except for the engine. PLEASE HELP US

engine lock up while driving

Engine light came on while driving car was stalling Dodge called to tell me that they fixed the engine light but I had much bigger problems. They told me my engine was full of sludge.. I have all my oil change receipts And they are saying it is from not changing the oil… They said they sent the oil to Chrysler and they will not cover it under warranty

Engine has a loud clicking noise. Took it to a repair shop and mechanic said that the 2.7L Engine needs to be replaced. I still owe $7,500 on this car. Now I have an estimate of $5,623 for a new engine, which will give me 3yrs/75,000 warrantyFebruary 2007 Update: Although I was in contact with the Impartial Services Group in January, and they would not arbitrate my complaint because my car is a 2004, which was outside the years of the cars they were handling. My car is still sitting at the mechanic, pending my being able to come up with the money to replace the engine.

Car pulls to right & left intermittandly. Electrical system has shorts causing problems to mirrors & alarm system. Engine has ticking sounds and sludge in engine when is changed even before 3,000 miles.

CAR HAS BEEN CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS. THE INTREPID WAS INVOLVED IN REAR END COLLISION, THE INTREPID BEING THE AUTOMOBILE HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR. WHEN THE IMPACT HAPPENED, THE BACK SEAT FLEW OUT OF THE FASTENERS, CAUSING THE PERSON INBACK TO SLIP OUT OF THE SEATBELT AND WAS THROWN INTO THE BACK OF THE PASSENGER\’S FRONT SEAT, CAUSING THE PASSENGER OF THE FRONT SEAT TO JERK HER HEAD BACK, HITTING THE THE RELEASE BUTTON OF THE SHOULDER STRAP AND SLICED OPEN HER HEAD. THE PERSON IN THE BACKSEAT SUFFURED SEVERE ABDOMINAL MUSCLE TEAR, TWO CRACKED RIBS, AND OTHER MUSCULAR AND SKELETAL PROBLEMS.

a knocking noise in the morning when started and went away for a while. It started knocking again then died and would not restart. did not see any signs of overheating or other lights og gauges indicating something wrong. oil was changed the day before and nothing said about low coolant.

7/19/07 ThursdayCar broke down on freeway, had vehicle towed to dealership repair shop for repairs. Advised that my car may not be looked at pending other appointments. Called that afternoon as I did not hear anything. Response: We haven’t had a chance to look at it.7/20/07 FridayReceived call indicating it was the timing chain which was loose. Total cost of repairs $1878.55 of which $568.65 were in parts, the rest is labor. Work authorized within 30 minutes. Given expected returned date of 7/24/07 Tuesday.7/23/07 MondayI went down to the dealership to authorize a belt change which was missed in the diagnose. I have documentation from another shop 2 weeks prior recommending the antifreeze housing to be replaced due to a small leak as well as the belt. Both of which were not brought up in the dealerships shop findings.7/24/07 TuesdayCar expected to be returned this day. 3pm call from shop indicating they need 3 more hours and it won’t be completed until 7/25/07 Wednesday.7/25/07 WednesdayCar re-assembled. Shop indicated the car is still making noise and they need to drop the oil pan. Needed authorization. Asked what could possibly wrong. Informed that it may be a camshaft or axle repair. Authorized work within 30 minutes of their call after figuring out financial options. 7/26/07 ThursdayReceived call from shop indicating crankshaft scored, 2 bearings worn of which one was paper thin. Shop recommended short block replacement of which the part was $2600. Shop advised they would need to test the heads to make sure no crack or leak. Drove to shop to look at repairs and have explained in person with mechanic Carlos. Advised shop that I would like to have my Dad look at the repairs since he has a mechanic background.7/27/07 FridayWent to shop with Dad and had problem explained. Carlos the mechanic advised that there would be no other repairs needed as everything looked okay except the heads needed to be tested to be on the safe side. Work was estimated at $5500. Authorization to test the heads was given to the shop in the AM. Expected results to be provided later that day. No response from the shop. Called shop, they indicated the heads got out of the car late. Will have response on 7/30/07 Monday.7/30/07 MondayNo call from shop. Went to shop in person to discuss results or find out what the delay was. Was informed that the information was not available as the advisor was on lunch. Asked for call back. Received call indicating test results not back.7/31/07 TuesdayReceived call from shop. Shop indicated that one cylinder head needed replacement, all others okay. Total charges at this point was confirmed at no more then $6858.96. Work authorized to order short block and get the car repaired. Given expected return date of 8/3/07 Friday.8/3/07 FridayDad visits the shop to ensure the bill was not going to increase at all. Shop informed my Dad that the short block has not arrived and the engine in my car has not been removed yet. They informed him that the car would be available by 8/10/07 Friday. Called shop to confirm this was correct and discuss rental car charges. Advisor advised me the rental car would be split 50/50.No calls all week from either party. 8/10/07 FridayGave benefit of the doubt that my car was being worked on. No call from shop. Called shop at 4pm this day to obtain the status. Was informed the short block has still not arrived. Asked advisor why I did not receive a call. He would not give me an answer and only indicated there was a back order on the part. I asked the advisor to give me an actual date. He called back indicating the part was expected 8/11/07 Saturday the next day. Informed him that I would be there Monday to verify. Called back and left a message with the Service Department Manager Stan Ramirez. To this day, I have never received a call back.8/13/07 MondayWent to shop to verify part has been received. Informed the part arrived however the mechanic originally working on my car is no longer with that shop. A new mechanic would be placed on the job. Was informed that they would start putting the heads on the short block and it would be 2-3 days later with a return date of 8/15/07 Wednesday.8/15/07 WednesdayReceived a call from the shop indicating the engine mount broke on the new short block when they put it in the car due to the pressure. Informed they needed to order another short block part. Advisor informed me that they would have the company the short block came from pay for the rental moving forward. Asked the advisor when the new part may arrive. He then stated he would know in an hour and would call back. 2.7 LITER ENGINE FAILED WHILE IN MID DRIVE. LOUD ROD KNOCK, CONFIRMED BY ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC ENGINE BLOWN. CAR IS FINANCED I STILL OWE $7000 ON VEHICLE. While having the water pump and timing chain repaired, the engine seized up. I was only charged for parts on the water pump. The oil sludge that was built up in the engine was cleaned out.

Parts that have failed on this car-HEATER CORE, THERMOSTAT, MASS AIR FLOW CENSOR X 3, GASKET ON FRONT OF MOTOR-BLEW OFF SPRAYING ALL OF THE COOLANT OUT OF THE ENGINE, ENGINE JUST SEIZED UP. The mechanic at the shop where i had my car towed after it just stop running when i was driving down a highway, tells me that these cars are known for having bad engines, They have sludge problems, timing chain problem, they used wrong lubricants on parts, motors sieze up, and something about flakes or chips coming off of the internal parts and getting caught in the pistons causing them to lock in place.

After 3 major problems (fly wheel, water pump and timing belt) with the 2004 Intrepid since purchased in 9/03 and 4,000 miles, the engine is now "full of sludge" at only 49,500 miles. Oil light came on only at the end of the car’s operation at which time the oil registered full and looked fine.

We are writing to let you know of a major car fire that occurred in our dodge intrepid. the driver was driving on the interstate. the hot/cold needle began moving up and down. then the brakes gave out. then, the power steering gave out. the car started smoking producing black chemical smoke into the cabin. then, fire started shooting out of the vents. with no brakes and fire and smoke into the car, the driver was forced to jump out of the vehicle and roll onto the middle of the interstate with the car still going 30-40 mph. the driver was in extreme danger inside the car and obviously laying on the interstate as well. the car ended up in the ditch while completely engulfed in flames. he was able to get onto the shoulder of the road. the fire department arrived to put out the fire. they determined the fire started inside the area of the heating core. the fire was so hot that it melted the bolts we were told by the fire marshal. there obviously was something faulty with the heater core to give this much damage. the driver was treated at the er for smoke inhalation. the contents in the car were either burned, melted, or have severe smoke damage. the vehicle is a complete loss of course. we lost many items of value inside the vehicle. we would like to be reimbursed for the car, the damaged or destroyed contents and any medical bills.

In october 2015 i bought a 2004 dodge intrepid from a private owner/dealership. i didnt even have for a wek and was on highy doing 60 m.ph. on hwy and all of a sudden pwered down and turned off and steam coming out from under hood. i proceeded to get out of middle lane to breakdown lane. (very dangerous) when car not running. let it cool off and drove home and brought to dealer. dealer could not figure out what was wrong. sent me on my way. weeek later was back there again with overheating issue again. still said could not find out whats wrong. very frustrated i took car home. from there it ran for like a month and then started overheating again. i had noticed that sometimes when i drove i could tap gas pedal and temp indicator gauge went back down. weird. did some ressearch online when this first happened and saw alot of people having issues with this car and previous engine 257 was in a lawsuit for bad engine. said then engine i have 318 was supposed to be better design but still saw alot of same issues. i finally had to take in becasue it started having starting problems. i did not take back to dealership cuz would have not made it that far and i wanted a second opinion. they found a weep hole in water pump that was leaking and a cam sensor problem which he state had a service technical bulletin. so i called chrysler and they said need to take back to the dealer to identify that issue . she checked my vin nr at chrysler and said that in 2012 the cam sensor was replaced . but still have that issue so said dealer will have to request chrysler to do again...this car looks great inside and out but these issues are resonant in numerous cars. this is a dangerous situation if shuts down or overheats while driving. chrysler needs to do something about this and should have never sold these vehicles with this engine.

Oil light and check engine light are coming on. took it to a mechanic to get it inspected he said it is loosing oil pressure due to oil pump failure there is no way to tell when or if the engine will seize up, but that it could be while driving on the interstate. some research showed that this is a major issue with the 2.7l v6 in the dodge intrepid. this is a major safety issue.

I was driving to work and all the sudden my car started dinging and i look down at the lights and my over heat light was on and my car temp was all the way at high. i took my car to ntb to get an oil change and had just filled my coolant the day before. ntb had to fill my coolant again that next day. i picked up my car and was on my way home and my car started dinging and it was over heating again. so i pulled over. let it set for 20 min even with the heat on full blast. and before i even made it home which was not even 10 min away it over heated again. i opened the hood and look and no coolant. now this is the 3rd time in 2 days of filling it up. had it towed to a shop. water pump went and timing chain and the water pump housing at the top cracked. sad thing is i just bought this car not even a month ago because my other cars engine blew. *tr

Car began steaming, and smoking. had to pull over to let it cool down, no extra antifreeze available. once cooled, limped it to mechanic. mechanic stated fuel pump is out again, after only 45,000 more miles on brand new dodge water pump. mechanic also stated that oil pressure is too high and seals bad, oil spewing out everywhere. he said this is a defect of the dodge 2.7 liter engine and since water pump is incorporated into motor, the cost to replace it, put all new seals and fix the oil pump would not be worth the value of the car and he will not do it because he refuses to "spend other people's money on a junk motor." he stated that even rebuilt dodge 2.7 liter motors are bad and will quit after only a few thousand miles. he says you can not get a good 2.7 liter dodge motor for any intrepid built between 1998-2008. he had paperwork showing dodge knew it was a poor design that would blow and not be worth the cost of repair. i want this corrected and anyone who owned one of these lemons reimbursed for the cost of repairs for these vehicles! dodge knowingly sold these lemons and did nothing to fix the issue until 2008! this is a clear cut case of consumer fraud! *tr

Was traveling on the highway when the car began steaming, pulled over and all the radiator fluid was pouring out of the car. turns out the water pump went out. the pump is incorporated into the motor requiring the motor to be unbolted, turned up, the radiator, valve cover, thermostat, water pump, timing chain and more to be removed. cost was nearly $850 due to the extreme amount of labor involved and the fact dodge only parts have to be used. mechanic informed me, at that time that the 2.7 liter engine was a very poor design and often give out completely before the car has 100,000 miles on it and dodge is well aware of the problem. found a lawsuit filed against dodge for this defective engine in new jersey. *tr

I was driving at approximately 50mph and started slowing down to get on the freeway during rush hour. i had a hard time braking and notice the accelerator was stuck. the car was still accelerating even when i applied the brakes. i had to push as hard as i could on the brakes to get the vehicle to slow down. this incident went on for at least three miles until the accelerator popped back to it's original setting. the same thing has happened in three separate incidents since. *tr

Driving on freeway at 65mph when engine jumped to high rpm then dropped to low rpm and quit. steam coming out from under hood. found the water outlet box had blown the top off, engine overheated, and piston rod broke. many complaints of the plastic welded seam on the water outlet box failing on the dodge intrepid. this stranded me on the freeway in a bad area. very poor design water outlet box.. repair box is now a two piece assembly bolted together. they obviously knew of this defect and changed the design without recalling or repairing any. now need new engine due to overheating when the box failed. *tr

I bought this car from a dealership a year ago, and kept up with maintenance. two days after purchasing the car the engine died and i had to have it towed back to the dealership, the mechanic there told me that there were burnt wires in the engine that had to be replaced. a month later, there was a leak in the coolant system, so i had it taken to a mechanic who replaced the entire coolant system, put in a new radiator because there was a small crack, as well as installed a brand new battery. about a month after that incident, as i was driving home from work, which is only 11 miles at 35mph, the engine seized. none of the indicator lights went on. two different mechanics told me that i need a new engine. it is a 2.7l v6. i still owe $4,000 on the car and so far it cost me $6,000 to keep it running. *tr

I bought this car used in june 2009. less than a year later i began having problems. at first there was a loud knock on the right side under the hood, which ended up being the control arm- completely loose and almost disconnected. it hadn't been like that when i made this waste of a purchase. over the last 20 months (12/2/2011), the problems have progressively gotten worse (and more expensive). the loud bang is back, adding to it a lack of full control of steering. i now have to replace the tie rod (entire system) and the rack and pinion. i understand why this car was discontinued, just not why there was no recall. *tr

Driving home from work in my 2004 dodge intrepid when i heard a strange gushing noise from under the hood. the gauges in the car read that everything was fine, car was not overheating, etc... approximately 1 to 2 miles later the car stopped running. i coasted over to the side of the road and called my husband. he and my son in law came and we pulled the car back to the house. upon inspection of the engine, there was water in the oil when we pulled the dipstick. my son in law is an ase certified mechanic and he went over the car thoroughly in the next day and found that without warning, the water pump blew. the engine was a total loss. the car had approximately 120,000 miles on it and i still had a year of payments to make. dodge should do something about these cars and this 2.7 engine. it's a shame, i loved my car! *tr

Friday august 6th i ran a few errands after work, then on the way back my car started making a banging noise. i traveled a little further then the noise became louder and louder, so i pulled over. i called my boyfriend who came in about 15 minutes and he checked under the hood. we found out that we could not get a reading on the oil stick when checking it. we took the car over to be checked by a mechanic. i seems like the oil was sludge/thick; now this is considering i got a complete oil change june 27, 2010...this incident happened august 6th. now my mechanic says that i need a new engine. i have been diligent with the maintenance on my car. i get regular oil changes and other things that's needed for my car. i have not had any real problems up until now. i have recently bought new tires, i have also had to have the alternator and battery replaced, but nothing like this. since this has happened i have read 100's of complaints concerning dodges 2.7 engines. they are notorious for doing just what my engine has done. with no warning the engine is gone. dodge refuses to recall these engines that could very well cause major, major damage to lives. what a tragedy! *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) 2004 dodge intrepid sxt vin: [xxx] car kept shutting down while driving and "bucking" at times. i brought the car to be repaired on 03/07/2008 and the dealer replaced cam shaft position sensor, natural vacuum leak detection switch and canister assy and oxygen sensor. car started bucking. i brought the car in to be repaired on 10/30/2008 and the mechanic replaced the transmission solenoid. i had to replace the oil pan on 11/06/2008. i found out the oil pan made of thin aluminum. when the oil pan was ordered by the mechanic it was on national backorder by dodge. car started to shut down while driving again. i brought the car in to be repaired and the mechanic changed the cam shaft position sensor again. i received a recall notification from chrysler - emissions recall j18. the recall states the catalytic converters may become damaged from continued operation in "limp-in" mode following a camshaft position sensor fault. i called chrysler and was told the recall had been put on hold. my car started to shut down again while driving and i could not drive it above 40mph otherwise when braking the transmission would go from 3rd gear to 1st gear (skipping 2nd gear). i brought the car in to be repaired on 03/04/2010 and the car is still in the shop. so far, the mechanic replaced the camshaft position sensor, transmission solenoid and now believes the computer is no good. *tr

Transmission issues check engine light comes on got solenoid pack put in (all electronics) and still have issue with transmission, needed an alternator however the alternator is located between the frame and the engine, very expensive, needed a battery but the battery is located on the passenger side and the tire has to be removed in order to change it. the company is aware of the ongoing issues with the transmission, alternator etc, how do you file a complaint with the company also, dome lights come on by themselves while car is running. *tr

I had flat tires in three of my 4 tires in a 6 week period. the first and third of these 3 flats were traced to a crack in the valve stem. the 2nd and 3rd flats occurred at highway speeds within 50 minutes of each other damaging both tires beyond repair. the second tire caused severe pulling to the right. by the time i pulled over the tire was smoking. sears had installed these tires in 2006. they suspect the tech tr413 valve stem was the culprit. sears agreed to replace all tires with new. this work has not yet been done yet so one valve stem remains installed and will be closely inspected upon replacement. do you want this valve stem returned for inspection? the police provided an escort for tire failure #2 so police records surely exist though i filed no formal report. *tr

We were in a car accident on june 13, 2008. we were traveling east in a 2004 dodge intrepid on a 2 lane street and in the opposite lane a 2001 ford f-150 pickup truck was traveling west. the owner of the truck that was traveling west failed to yield to oncoming traffic and proceeded to make a left hand turn into a driveway. as we can over a hill traveling at rates of speed of 25-30 mph was when the driver made his turn. upon impact the whole front bumper of the intrepid came off, smoking and grinding sounds were very loud. the hood folded up and the headlights flew off. the damage to the intrepid was very bad. the airbags never deployed in the intrepid. the police report listed this as a head on collision. as of right now i was the passenger in the intrepid and have sustained some very serious nerve damage and a shoulder injury. as well as bruising across my chest. but our concern is that when we bought our car we were told that the airbags would work in a accident. which they failed to do. *tr

Almost immediately after i got my car i had occasional issue with it dying while i was driving. it got to be more often so i took it to the dealership as it was still under warranty. after 3 trips i was always told, nothing was wrong. then my warranty ran out and my car died almost daily. then my car would die while i was driving, usually would start right back up but not always and then the check engine light would be on. then i had issues starting my car. i decided to take the less expensive route and go to a local mechanic. he drove the car and saw/felt no issues as the check engine light was now off. he told me he had to have the car hooked up to the diagnostic machine at the time it dies so he could see what the issue was as 2 different codes were coming up. these codes were p0340 (intermittent cmp signal) and p0344 (no cmp signal). i was told one of the connectors was installed improperly on my camshaft sensor. after another try, the car dies again. mechanic stated the car started right back up and issue was gone. i drove off only to have my car die again. at this point i called the dodge dealership to see what the codes meant. without even looking at my car, i was told, have the camshaft sensor replaced. i was quoted $285.00. i had just paid almost $200.00 to the last guy and didn't have any more money to spend. a friend heard me having issues starting my car one day, i told him what i was told was wrong and the quote of $285.00 from dodge. we went to a local autopart store and purchased a camshaft sensor for $48.00. literally it took 5 minutes to loosen a nut, pop the faulty camshaft sensor off, put the new one on and tighten the nut. that simple! no more issues with my car dying while driving or starting. i think its disgusting there are complaints logged at least 7 years back on this engine and they are still manufacturing automobiles with this engine and ignoring the complaints. this should not be acceptable. *jb

I first noticed that the steering wheel was a bit off center and it has since gotten to the point that there is excessive play in the wheel and the vehicle is very difficult to control. the steering also makes a clunk noise when the wheel is turned back and forth. after doing some research and inspecting the steering system i found that the inner tie rod bushings are almost gone. this is an extremely dangerous design flaw and had it continued the bolts may have sheared and resulted in a total loss of steering. i will now need to replace the inner tie rod bushings, bolts, and plate. *tr

I am writing to inform you of an event that has affected me and may be a concern to others. in 2004, i purchases a 2004 dodge intrepid from the now defunct tony pesce chrysler, jeep, dodge , predecessor to also defunct labate chrysler, jeep, dodge, located on north market street in east palestine,oh. the vehicle had normal preventable checks done, and had undergone all applicable recall service. at one point, the vehicle needed to be serviced for an immense amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust. there was a full diagnostic test ran on the car and the result was that everything was a okay. approximately three months later, i had been informed i was in need of a new engine. the vehicle is out of warranty and i am stuck to pay for a vehicle that has yet to reach its payoff. i am a single mother of two who hoped to better serve my family by purchasing a "dependable" vehicle and am now faced with a terrible loss dilemma. i am very discouraged and feel that i have been mislead by chrysler corporation, and "authorized service technicians." i always returned my vehicle to my original seller (or certified dodge dealer) when a problem would occur and i am more hurt than anything as to how no one could see this problem coming (especially given the above stated). i have never been a mechanic or someone who knows a lot about vehicles which is why whenever i felt the slightest problem i would seek help from a dealer. i had the natural thought of letting a technician tell me what i did or did not need. i feel as if i have no where else to turn with a once reputable dealership closing its doors. living paycheck to paycheck while trying to figure out if my vehicle will take my little girls to school or get me to work and back i simply have no room to breathe. the thought of putting $7,000 into a $30,000 vehicle that is less than half way paid off is absolutely absurd. i am unable to trade without owing or receive any assistance from crysler.*ak

After watching a segment on local news on the dashboard collapse on the dodge rams, i realized what has been the cause of what started as a hairline crack on dashboard. i purchased the 2004 dodge intrepid about 14 months ago in almost perfect condition. months later i noticed a hairline crack, which i hadn't noticed when i purchased the vehicle. at first i thought maybe it was an oversight since the hairline was so small, as time went by i had seen the crack get longer and wider. now, the crack was at a point where the dash board was starting to collapse. i have not seen any recalls on this make/ model/ year , yet there were various problems with other dodge dashboards. *ak

Re: 2004 dodge intrepid with mitsubishi 2.7l engine on january 28, 2007 my teenage daughter was driving referenced car when without any warning engine failed causing steering to fail, and my daughter was forced to allow the car to coast into a safety zone. although automobile had recently been serviced and had the bushings replaced, there was no indication either to me or the mechanic that the engine was in immediate danger of failure. the car has less than 45,000 miles on it. i see from several websites that the engine in my intrepid is defective and many, many engines both in the u.s. and canada have the same problem. however, i an told now that regardless of maintenance of the vehicle, any warranties, the early failure of the engine, i have no recourse but to replace the engine at a cost of around $3500. but, there is a problem. so many of these engines have had to be replaced that i cannot get an engine, even if i could pay for it. so, i continue to make car payments for a defective vehicle that i cannot drive and cannot repair because there are no engines. help, please help.*jb

I own a 2004 dodge intrepid which i have had for 2 years. i was driving to work a week ago when i looked down my oil light was on. then after that my car completely died. i tried to jump it, but it wouldn't go. it was also -1 outside. i then had my car towed to a place to have them look at it. they called me back and told me that my engine was completely shot. they told me i had to replace it. something to do with lack of lubrication inside the engine. nothing to do with me. i had oil in the engine. the reason for my complaint is that when i called to get some help from someone they had told me they couldn't help me due to the fact i didn't bring it to where they told me to. i still owe 9,000 and now i have to take out another loan to cover the cost of the engine which is 5,300. i only had 105,000 miles on the car. i think it should not matter where you bring you car to have it worked on. i think we say it's a free country and we can choose so many things, but when you have to figure out how to get to work due to a engine being replaced is crazy!! i have always had a dodge intrepid. i thought that dodge was a good company but when it comes down to it they are terrible. i think that they could offer to help out with the cost of the new motor, but i didn't go where they told me to so now i have to suffer. i am not backing up dodge at all. i am very angry with them. it's not my fault that they don't know how to make a engine, but i am the one who suffers. not them. *jb

My wife's car would not start for her went she was going to go to work. for about the last eight to ten months the oil light was coming on and she took it to a auto shop an they said that it was a oil sensor. they replaced it and i also changed the oil. after it would not start on 2/05/07 she had it towed to the shop where they said it was the battery and the starter, but that didn't work. the guy that was working on it noticed that the engine was a 2.7 v6 motor. he told us that the car had locked up and would never start again due to oil starvation. he also said that he had seen this one other time. the year of her car is a 2004 dodge intrepid. he also stated that cars that have that 2.7 size motor made by daimler chrysler have this oil starvation problem which cause my wife's car to lock up. if this is true it could be a danger to others with this size motor if they are driving and the car may lock up. we are still looking into what will be done to resolve this issue but would like to let people know that if they have the 2.7 v6 size motor in their car and the oil light keeps coming on especially during braking to get it checked asap. thank you *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling various speeds, the rear brake lights remained illuminated. the dealer was contacted, who determined that the brake light switch could be the defective component. the vehicle was not inspected. the contact planned to file a complaint with the manufacturer after filing a complaint with the nhtsa.

My 2004 intrepid with 2.7 engine seized while driving almost causing a accident was purchased in 02/04 and now i come to find there are others like me i want the issue of the motors resolved so i can get a refund of my money from fixing my car that i have kept good maintenance on it to hard to be without a vehicle and still making payments on and trying to save for a new motor when i could be putting that money aside for education ect for my children especially when they are aware of the problems not only of mine but others like me they seem not to care of safety. *nm

At roughly 58,500 miles the oil light started coming on at idle. took it to shop to find that this is a very common issue with dodge intrepids with 2.7 liter v6 engine. so far the pressure switch has been replaced, and the oil pan was found to be full of sludge (car is routinely maintained!). oil pan has been replaced and it was verified that there was no metal present in pan. car was returned to owner but within 48 hours light is back on. car is now back in shop waiting final verdict on if as in so many other cases, this car will need extensive engine work. *nm

Police department operated four 2007 dodge intrepids, 4 doors, police packages. two of the vehicles experienced multiple rear strut failures with in a 12 month period. one vehicle experienced a failure during an emergency response that resulted in the officer losing control of the vehicle, wrecking and totaling the vehicle and doing $15,000 damage to 2 vehicles and a house. the officer was lucky and only received minor injuries. the last failure was 3 years after purchase. three of the vehicles vins are within 5 numbers of each other. struts have been replaced as they failed except on the vehicle that was totaled. department has pictures of struts from accident. incident date is that of the accident.*jb

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle has been having ongoing problems with sludge build up in the motor which has been affecting all the sensors and illuminating all the service lights. the vehicle was taken into an independent mechanic who replaced the camshaft sensor and the crank sensor. repairs were also made to the motor. when the problems persisted the mechanic referred the contact to the dealers check out the vehicle. the dealer were called and determined that the motor was not covered under warranty for repairs. the manufacturer was also called who referred the contact to the dealers to determine what the cause of the problem was related to.

Dt: the caller stated while driving at 30 mph., all power failed in the vehicle, stalling the engine. after coming to a stop, the contact was unable to dissengage the automatic transmission from drive to the park position. no accident or injury occurred and no police report was filed. after inspection, the dealers mechanic informed the contact all the oil had leaked out of the vehicle and caused the engine to seize.

The transmission has gone out the car has 74000 mileage its a dodge intrepid 2004 and i called daimler chrysler and they stated they could help me. *jb

When driving any where any speed car will start hesitating then cut off. sometimes if you let it sit for 15 mins it will turn back sometimes it will take longer. very dangerous car and it's a shame to pay 487.00 a month for a car that may very well cost you your life. in 2005 had to put it in the shop because it would not start back up. our mechanic said it was the crank angle sensor but now in 2006 it doing it again. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated there was a vibration in the engine. after inspecting the vehicle the dealership replaced the cam sensor switch. while driving at various speeds or when the engine is idling there is a knocking sound. the knocking occurs intermittently. upon inspection the dealership determined there is sludge build up in the engine due to improper maintenance.

Dt: the contact's vehicle hit a guard rail at 50-55 mph and the airbags did not deploy. the bumper came off, the lights were knocked out, and the hood was pushed back. the vehicle has not been inspected. a police report was taken at the scene. the contact sustained a scrape to his head, a stiff neck, and has headaches. the manufacturer has not been contacted. *ak

Hello again....i had reported this car back in july because my engine suddenly cut off while driving on interstate. the dealer was nice enough to fix the car at no cost to me. according to the mechanic they had to replace the crank shaft sensor. well, a few days ago i noticed that i have no heat, i.e. in the morning i let the car warm up before leaving for work, unfortunately it will not warm up inside. also my oil light has come on a few weeks ago, i immediately took it have it serviced. but the oil light is still on especially if i am standing still, it will turn off as they car speeds up! just left the dealership and they told me it could be the "thermostat" or maybe the oil pressure something, but he really worries because the oil light stays on. they quoted that the repair cost will start at $800.00. *jb

Dt: the engine would not start. after several attempts the engine started and the vehicle was driven to the dealer. the dealer performed a diagnostic test but did not detect any codes. upon further inspection the dealer discovered sludge in the engine. the dealer suggested this was due to a lack of regular oil changes. this was not covered under warranty. no repairs have been made at this time. *ak updated 12/27/2005. *nm

Dt: the contact stated the oil tube that connects to the engine is too small for the proper flow of oil, resulting in a clogged line that seizes the engine. the dealer suspected this was due to a lack of oil changes. she feels as though this is a design flaw. the repair has been performed due to the expense. chrysler will not offer any cost assistance. *ak

While driving to work car jerked and slowed down, to 20 mph. the next morning car wouldn't start , took car into shop where they had to break engine down to determine what's wrong got a call it was sludge in the engine and it wasn't covered. will cost $8,000 to replace engine but i have 2 warranties. customer service representatives are rude and leading me on wild run around for satisfaction . i work 2 jobs but they don't offer replacement. i was sold a car with pricey problems. *nm

Dt: 2004 dodge intrepid. the consumer stated the check engine light stayed on. the vehicle was taken to the dealership to be checked, and they could not find anything wrong with it. the check engine light went off, and a month later the light came on again. this happened 5 times. the vehicle will bet taken to the dealer for the same problem for the sixth time. the warranty expired. it was going to cost the consumer $609. the manufacturer told her to take the vehicle to the dealership. the vehicle was taken to dealership last tuesday and the leak detection pump was replaced. also, replaced the cam shaft. in addition, there was a short in the tail light sensor. *ak.

1st incident on july 9th, 2005. was driving on interstate i40 approximately 65 mph, all of a sudden the "check engine light" came on and the engine turned off. i managed to pull across three lanes onto the emergency lane! i waited for apprx. 10 minutes before i tried to crank up the car. i parked the car for that day. the next day when i checked the car, the engine light was no longer on! exactly one week later the same thing happen, again on a very busy hwy! i took the car to have the oil changed again and all other fluids checked. the engine light stayed on for that day and the next morning it was off! two days ago it happened again, this time i was not able to pull out of traffic!!!!fortunately we did not get hit by other vehicles. this morning i was standing at a traffic light when the car all of a sudden turned off "again", this time i had a hard time getting it cranked up. one important note, on two of those occasions i had my children with me (8 & 12) we could have gotten seriously injured. having a vehicle malfunction like this after only 12 months can and will be a serious matter....chrysler will be in a lot of trouble if anything happens to me (single parent) or my children because they simply will not admit that there is a malfunction with these vehicles! consider this the first official notification from me. after i return from the dealership i will be in touch with my attorney!

Dt: consumer's vehicle was involved in an accident on friday. it rear ended a car that stopped on the highway on ramp. upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. also, the sons' seat belt in the back seat came unbuckled, but he was not in it at the time. no air bag light came on, or had any prior problems with the seat belt before the accident vehicle had not been inspected, and the claims adjuster had not seen it yet.*ak

51,100 miles on the car. no warning that the motor was going to seize due to sludge build up. motor seized while driving vehicle. was told by chrysler dealership's mechanic that a professional oil changer would not have seen this coming. mfg. warranty ( 7/70 ) doesn't want to cover this. extended ( fidelity warranty services ) warranty doesn't want to cover this. had two wrecker bills forsee a third to have car brought home. two different chrysler dealerships have told me that they would not repair this.

The 2.7l engine seized without any warning while driving 30-35 mph. the consumer was able to pull over to the side of the road . the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the mechanic informed the consumer while checking the oil; they noticed sludge and metal flakes in the oil. *jb *tt

On 11/18/04 my vehicle stalled after crossing 3 lanes of traffic on a heavily traveled street. i managed to get the vehicle to a side street before i was completely unable to maneuver it, where i was able to start it again. the vehicle was towed to a dealership and the cam sensor was replaced the next day. ihave had no problems until approximately 01/28/05, when the vehicle starting having a hesitation when i accelerated. today (2/1/05) i got in my car to run an errand and the check engine light was on, which immediately alarmed me. i took the vehicle to a parts store and had them do a check, the results were: the cam sensor. this makes 2 times in 10 weeks that i have had to take my vehicle in to be serviced. i am currently drivinga borrowed vehicle until mine is "fixed".*ak

Camshaft position sensor keeps failing. have checked all the wiring and the module itself. continues providing codes for camshaft position sensor circuit intermittent and camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. this has happened to me 3 times, all on the interstate, and all causing the vehicle to stall and sputter in heavy traffic. called today to have appointment to have it replaced. all of this happening at 37,000 miles (1000 miles over the expiration of the warranty). figures....*jb

Less than 54000 miles on it, i am the second owner; the first owner was a route salesman and had put 24k highway miles on it. i do my own oil changes and was told point blank that i would not be able to prove they were done unless i had commercial receipts. the first time the oil light came on was late november, since then it has been driven very carefully back and forth to the shop 2 times. i do not have the money to do a 1200.00 motor flush recommended, nor do i have the money to pay for a motor if needed. the past month and a half it has been a very expensive driveway ornament, i did not even get a full year?s use out of it, bought it in march of 2004 and problems starting in november 2004. i will not continue to drive it, it would be irresponsible to do that when the information on the net is so specific on the problems. so i have decided to stop payments on the vehicle and in due course will be filling for bankruptcy the first of january to get out from under the loan, all thanks to dodge. first and last dodge/chrysler product?. aaron l. vanburen [email protected] *jb

I have my oil changed every 3 to 5 thousand miles. on my way to work i noticed that the oil light would flicker off and on when i came to a stop. i would then go off when i resumed driving. i checked the oil and it was not low. i will take it in and have it checked to make sure there is nothing wrong and that i won't lose pressure and have to buy a new motor.*ak

While driving home from work on 10/11/04, my dodge intrepids engine just shut off and all power went off. the engine light went on and i pulled over to the side of the road. after about 5 minutes of trying to get it going again, it restarted. this happened three more times, in a period of about an hour, over 30 miles. the following morning, i took it in to moss brothers motors and rented a car (they have no service vehicals). two hours later, moss calls that the car is ready, i was told it was a "computer service problem". the lengine light was no longer on when i picked the car up. the same day, on my way home, the samething happend (10/12/04). the car suddenly shut down on a very busy trafic corner and i had know time but to swerve out of my lane and do a ninty degree turn, over the curb and into a empty parking lot to avoid a major accident. i had no power steering and no brakes. the following morning, i took the car back to moss brothers motor and left it, relating my same problems as the day before. two hours later, moss calls telling me the car is ready. i was told it wad another "computer related" problem. since then it has not shutt down.*ak

While driving, the vehicle stalled. the consumer tried to restart the vehicle, but was unable to do so. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic informed the driver that the head gasket blew and needed to be replaced. please fill in additional information. *jb

Ac idle pulley bracket has been replaced twice and now it appears that it will have to be replaced a third time all within this year (2004).

The consumer complained about unexpected acceleration. the consumer was pulling into a parking space and suddenly the vehicle accelerated, and slammed into a wall. the airbags deployed, and the right side air bag ripped when it hit the passenger in the front seat. *ak *sc this consumer stated she did not report the incident to the police because no other car was involved. *jb
