2010-04-20	STRUCTURE	TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1998 THROUGH 2010 SIENNA PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN AUGUST 7, 1997 AND JANUARY 4, 2010, CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN OR ORIGINALLY SOLD IN CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WASHINGTON DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA, AND WISCONSIN. THE SUBJECT VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE SPARE TIRE STOWED UNDER THE VEHICLE. IF THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED IN THE COLD CLIMATE REGIONS OF THE UNITED STATES WHERE ROAD SALT IS FREQUENTLY USED, WATER SPLASHED BACKWARDS WITH HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT CAN REACH THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER AND CORRODE THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER ASSEMBLY CABLE. Remedy: TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS WITH AN INTERIM LETTER INITIALLY INSTRUCTING THEM TO BRING THEIR VEHICLE TO AUTHORIZED DEALERS TO INSPECT FOR CORROSION. Woefully own a 2002 Sienna with 66,000 miles. I am still in \"negotiations\" to get Toyota to fix my van. I\’ve given up on the dealership I purchased my van from and am taking it to another Toyota dealership in the area. I\’ve been told by the Toyota Consumer Support Program that my van is included in the Toyota Oil sludge campaign (not a word Toyota likes to use freely), but the dealership (my van was there for a week) I was working with claims that my van is not part of that program, however they will look into what they can do for me if I can provide 3 oil change receipts for the last 11 months. I can\’t. I\’ve been adding oil to my van, every other week, for almost 2 full years and now have blue smoke coming out of my tail pipe when I start it. I brought the oil consumption concern to the dealership\’s attention less than a year ago when they serviced my van and there are no records of that conversation. I\’m so frustrated and mad at myself. I paid cash for this van (inheritance from my dear mother) and I\’ve been ignored. I should have insisted that they look into the oil problems last year. I didn\’t know and I assumed that the \"service agent\" would have my best interests at heart. After all, he called me \"honey\" fourteen times. I wish I had the oil changed more frequently and kept receipts. Not because I believe for ONE MINUTE that anything would be different, but because I could shove them in the face of a certain Toyota Service Manager. I have a Toyota case number and it took six days for anyone from the dealership to talk to me. The Toyota Support Program had to call the \"customer relations manager\" three times to confirm that my van is a part of this program. After the first Customer Relations mgr. phoned me to tell me that her manager would not look into this because he believed only vans made up to 2001 were covered, I emailed her every piece of information I had regarding the sludge issues. She assured me that she would look into this further and be back in touch with me the next day. Three days later, through a phone call from the Toyota Customer Support, it was learned that this young lady was no longer with the company. I have a neighbor who works for another Toyota dealership and he has spoken to the service manager on my behalf. I doubt that there is much that will be done, but I\’m going to take her there tomorrow. I hate Toyota and will NEVER purchase another Toyota vehicle again. They screwed up, no biggie. We all do. They should make this right. From the research I\’ve done, my 3.0L v-6 engine was refined after the initial sludge issue was discovered. Good for them. Not enough, though. IUPDATE August 18, 2006: Good news! After a week of run around at the Mall of Georgia Toyota, I took my van to Atlanta Toyota in Duluth GA. I spoke with the Service Manager, Jesse and the Service agent, Randy. They agreed to take a look at my van. That was at 1:00 on Monday, August 14. Two hours later, Randy called to tell me that my van was indeed covered under the sludge campaign. He told me that I should probably take this opportunity to replace some things at a total out of pocket expense to me of $250.00. I was given a free 2007 Toyota Camry rental to drive and my van was ready for me on Wednesday evening, August 16. My van is purring and I was treated like a valued customer. I went prepared with a folder full of paper work and notes. I was never even asked a single question about my past services, oil changes or blood type. Two days, beginning to end. I\’ve learned that not every dealership represents the best that Toyota has to offer. If you do not receive the service you deserve at one, go to another. I was told that each dealer has their own \"way\". Find one whose philosophy and business plan depends and thrives on repeat business and referrals.
