tHIS IS THE ONE I REALLY AM GETTING FED UP ABOUT MY CAR BUCKS AS YOUR DRIVING ALONG AND WHEN YOU INGAUGE THE DEFROST OR AC THE PROBLEMS GETS WORSE. THE DEALER SHIP CAN’T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR DOSEN’T WANT TO THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL 70,000. MILES OR 7 YEARS. i AM AFRAID IT’S SOMETHING VERY EXPENSIVE. PS IT DOESN’T SEND OUT ANY ERROR CODES TO THE COMPUTER SO THEREFORE NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY CAR.

The Mirror is not the Problem that I am worried about? Fixed it myself for under $50.00 Canadian.That problem was Drivers Mirror Fell out and broke. The main problem is that there is a loud clunking noise under the hood somewhere in the engine area, whenever I start the car cold. It sounded a lot like a rod? But I do not think so as it does not get louder under a brake load. It does not seem to be getting any different with time. But it is very annoying and embarrassing when I start it up with anyone within hearing distance. Please let me know what you think it might be. Could it be the AIR CONDITIONING? But it sounds to heavy or loud for an expansion or evaporator valve. Thank You

Need to find out why water finds its way into the back seat floor and in the trunk of the Dodge Neon Need to find out what can be done to fix this problem. Also my sister-in-law has the same problem. My car keeps getting wet inside everytime it rains. I\’ve hadthe whole car rewired. They said the harness was bolted into the wire panel. please help.

I bought my Neon in May of 2001 and in Feb. 2002 I had a bad water leak. I took it in several times and they would say it was fixed, but no it was not. I finally told them I want my carpet replaced when they do get it fixed. I fought with them round & round, till they finally said they would. I said do not put it in until we know for sure it was fixed. They said it was, put new carpet in and sure enough it leaked again and the new carpet was soaked and stinky, like the original. They finally got the leak fixed after 6 months, but they sure did not offer to replace carpet again. This dealer was very rude. I also had to have my headlights replaced, due to water leak. My cd player broke twice and had to be replaced, my sunroof had to be replaced. I went to a different Dodge dealer, due to the rudeness I would receive. In the past month my car has been in twice, once it would not start and had to be towed to the dealer, the dealer said it was the battery, my husband replaced the battery and it ran ok for a couple of days and the engine started to miss again/felt like it was going to die while driving. I took it in again and they tell me my spark plugs needed to be changed and was going to charge me $50.00 for looking at it and I argued with the guy I told him I will not pay a dime. He basically threw the paperwork down and walked away. Now I have been to 2 dealers and have got nothing but treated like crap. My husband did replace the plugs and it ran ok for 1 1/2 weeks , now I don

December the 7th, 2002, My wife was going the speed limit which was 55 and out of the blue the car just died. After almost being hit, she made it to the slow lane and pulled off. She just sat there and a couple of seconds later, the car started back up. She had to pick me up at work so she continued to drive again. When she got to my workplace, she cut the car off and when we were going to leave, it wouldnt start or do anything! We had Dodge to tow it to the dealership where we got it so it could be fixed. They kept it four days. They said at first they couldnt get it to do anything, then after moving around some wires it started working again. The day I picked it up they said that they couldnt get it to act up again and that they couldnt find a problem with it so nothing was fixed. The day it quit on my wife, her along with my six year old daughter were almost hit. I am scared for my familys life. We dont know if we are going to make it home or to work. Besides getting seriously injured from an accident, getting broke down on the side of the road again and missing work or my daughter missing school, it is very aggravating to not know whether or not your family will get home safe! I need to know if there is anything I can do. I am not willing to pay almost $530.00 a month for a car that is dangerous for us to ride and undependable! Thank you very much, Steve Thacker

After having my Dodge Neon for only 2 months I heard a knocking noise. I took the car to he dealer and was told that it needed a new engin. Luckly we had purchased a warranty. Now after having the car for alomst 2 years I was on the freeway with my 6yr old daughter and the excelerator stuck. When I took my foot off the gass the car sped up. I finally got the car pulled over and when I put the car in park the RPM\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s red lined when I turned the car off it sputtered and then after about 2 sec finally turned off. Needless to say I had to have the car towed to Larson Dodge in Puyallup Wa, when the service man called he said that there was a leek in the vacuum seal hose that goes to the excelerator and it needed to be replaced. This was all covered under warranty but I am now scared to drive my 2001 Dodge Neon not knowing what will happen next.

*AC went out 1 month after owning vehicle.*Had a brake booster recall which I totally understand.*Squealing and grinding on rear brakes, a noise that started when the vehicle was 6 months old and is still happening to this day. The mechanics say nothing is wrong with it. We were even told the grinding is due to all the Mississippi humidity (the noise started in Missouri, before we ever moved to Mississippi).*Driver side Power Window Stopped working. The motor had gone out.*Clunking under the hood at the same time as window incident. Mechanic fixed our loose brake motor.*Battery went dead at only 24,000 miles and not just a year old.*Standing water in my trunk and drivers side floor board. Caused mold to grow. My neon was out of use for 2 months straight. It took that long to find the source of all the leaks. All 3 of my brake lights had leaks in them and all the seals in the front of my car had to be replaced. That did not solve the leaking in the front of the vehicle. The dealership had to fill my car with smoke to find the source of the leak, it was only partially due to the seals.*As of January 2003, clunking in the front of the neon again. The dealership replaced my rear bearings. The car then needed an alignment which was not covered under warranty, needless to say I went elsewhere to get all 4 tires aligned for half the price the dealership was going to charge me to only get 2 aligned.*The very next day my neon was back at the dealership. A wobbling and grinding noise was coming from the rear of the vehicle, the same area all the work had just been performed on. I was told my drums had excessive brake dust in them, my pads and shoes were fine, but the drums needed to be removed, cleaned and rotated. This, of course, was not covered under warranty. Sadly, the dealership told me the vehicle was safe to drive, so now it is sitting in front of my house.

The car had no power and the transmission started to slip and now it slips every time you use the car. this is dangerous because if you were in on coming traffic and you had to move you cant move quick. *tr

On several occasions, smoke has been emitted from behind the steering column. initially, fog lights would not turn off. later, smoke came from behind the steering column, and the fog lights turned off, but would not turn on. 1 month later, more smoke came from behind the steering column, with a bad odor, and the headlights stopped working. now, i have had to buy the mfs (multi-function switch) but it does not work, as the wiring harness and wires are burned. the dodge dealer says that the entire wiring loom has to be replaced for several thousand dollars. i have researched online, and have found several complaints of the same issue. my concern is that headlights, taillights, turn signals, etc, should be a safety issue, and i have seen that many other neon owners have had taillights go out, turn signals not operate, etc. i checked 7 cars in junk yards today, and found that all of them had burned wires and harnesses. dodge should remedy this issue, which is clearly related to safety. *tr

Was driving at 50mph, when my rt front nokian tire went flat. when i changed the tire a noticed that the green plug was missing. there was a green plug in the lf front tire, so i knew this was the problem. as of right now, i was told nokian no longer makes that type of tire with the green plug so i am going to have to get a new one. *tr

Doors have trouble closing and staying closed until they dont close at all. all four doors on my car have this problem. it is currently in the shop getting a new door mechanism so the door on the driver's side will close. other three will have to be repaired and replaced.doors open when you are going down the road and stay open. could be potential for accidents.*ak

Dt*: the contact stated when driving at 30 mph, a wind draft was noticed in the steering wheel making it difficult to control. upon inspection by the contact, water was notice in the back floor board. the vehicle was taken to the local dealership were they determined the seal around the tail lights had a small area that may have not been sealed properly. the dealer replaced the sealant around the tail lights, but was unable to determine the cause of the steering problem. *nm

The seal around the trunk lid is leaking. there was a large puddle in my trunk from rain water, it leaked underneath into the spare tire holding area, then into the back seats and carpet in the car. the water could not be completely removed, and there is mold in the car now. mold is a health hazard. the seal is faulty. *jb

1) started the car in parking lot and steering wheel broke off 2) could not drive, steering wheel fell. my wife and my 2 year daughter were in the car. luckily no accident. ) towed the car to a dodge dealer. at this time, daimler-chrysler is evaluating what to do with the defect (to pay or not to pay). they have failed to provide proper service. it has been 3 weeks with no support on a rental nor a decision to repay the defect. hence, the car is still at the dealer which causes a major inconvenience to my family. *ak

Car electrical intermittently goes out without warning, while moving or parked. radio goes out, all dials go down to zero, power steering and brakes do not work. i have taken the car to the dealership on numerous occasions, mostly by tow-truck, to fix the problem. dealer says they cannot duplicate the problem, installs co-pilot, but car does not act up while it's installed. i have contacted daimlerchrysler assistance center, but they say it's not their problem. my warrenty is almost up and i am afraid i won't have the money to take the car in anymore, this situation is severely dangerous, the car will come to a dead stop on the freeway or in the middle of an intersection, i have had a few close calls and am worried that i will get hurt, or worse. *ak

Travelling on interstate, going 30 to 40 mph because of rush hour traffic. transmission starts to slip. i was lucky enough to pull car onto the shoulder and out of traffic. after towed to dealership, i'm told a plug on the radiator that connects to the transmission "popped" off. this caused all the transmission fluid to drain on the interstate and immobilized my car. the radiator has to be completely replaced because of this plug.*ak

While driving the air bag warning light stayed on and the horn was inoperative. the dealership indicated that the clock spring needed to be replaced. the failure was due to the defect described in the air bag clock spring recall 04v480000, but this model vehicle was not part of the recall. *jb

I noticed that my car would make a brushing noise whenever it moved (with the gas or without the gas). i assumed that it was the brakes, so i took it to a mechanics to have it taken care of. what they discovered, however, was that it was not the brakes creating the noise, but the tires and the rims. apparently, either the rims or the tires are the wrong size causing them to rub against one another whenever the car moves and makes the tires flex. when investigating recalls, found that there was a recall for the same exact problem for the model, just not for my specific car. apparently, in certain cars the wrong placard was placed on the inside of the drivers door indicating the wrong tire size, therefore causing mechanics to replace the tires with the wrong size. i believe that this is the same problem as my vehicle has, but a recall has yet to be issued for it.*ak

Dodge neon 2001 my - 43,000 miles. today, while making a parking maneuver i suddenly heard several plastic click and crack like noises. i immediately thought of the clock spring; my fears were confirmed few seconds later when the airbag light turned on my cluster. finally, after hearing the same kind of noise 3 of 4 times while driving the light ended up staying on. it basically meant that i have no airbag and i am a little bit worried that it might come off unexpectedly. think it is not normal for such a safety component to fail in such way after only 43,000 miles. i really can't think of anything i could have done that would explain that.*ak

While turning on the dimmer switch for the headlight, smoke began to emit from underneath the steering column. the consumer was able drive the vehicle home. the low headlight and fog lights failed to work, but the high beam light were operable. the consumer was able to drive it to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic informed the driver that the headlight dimmer switch needed replacement. the dealer was not responsible for the replacement the consumer has to contact the insurance company. please fill in additional information. *jb

Smoke came out of steering column inside vechicle, which caused my lights to stop working. *ak

I have a 2001 dodge neon, with a water leak problem. the car has always stood uncovered in the rain and snow, and never before has had any water leaked in. and yes, the windows and doors were closed. the water has come in from somewhere above the brake pedal. the puddle was on the driver side floor. there were traces of water on the brake pedal. i thought purchasing an extended daimler chrysler warranty would be a good form of protection, since chrysler's are known to be inferior vehicles. the reason i bought the car was because it's all i could afford at the time. i regret it now and curse the manufacturer for not backing up their products or warranties. the warranty doesn't cover water leaks and the dealer wants $100.00 to determine the problem area. don't buy a neon. *ak

I have had this car for two years and for the last year and half i've had this problem: the car shuts off while i am driving. i lose all power. i have to steer the car off the road, open the hood, fiddle with the cables connected to the battery, the power clicks back on, then i get back in the car and drive it till it happens again. i've brought my car into k & m northfield dodge dealer in grand rapids, mi so many times i've lost count, and they've haven't been able to find or fix the problem. sometimes it happens several times a day, or it can go days/weeks without the car shutting off. *nlm

2001 dodge neon . in shop 11 times for same problem. electrical failure. all gauges drop to 0 engine stalls and starts back up. all lights black out. very unsafe!!! car can swerve due to power lose. have had 4 very close calls of being hit when the car does this on freeway. car was under warranty when problem started and problem could never be duplicated. computer modula replaced, engine shut down replaced,ignition switch replaced, relays replaced. just had positive battery cable (harness) replaced at $280.00 cost to me with 3 days lost at work. 20,000 miles ouit of warranty and even though problem has been documented for a year while under warranty i had to pay that and the $110.00 for the engine shut down relay 2 weeks ago. don't know if this is fixed or not. will never buy another dodge.*ak

Yes i have a 2001 dodge neon and when i drive it will just quit on me, when it quits on me, there are no headlights ,nothing. but when the car quits i can get out and play with the postive cable wire and everything comes back on. i have taken my car into the dodge company here in red bluff and chico and they could not find the cause of promblem. this is a problem to me... i put the start date below and this problem happens sometimes everyday or every other day. *ak

I took my car to mckinney dodge in easley s.c. they checked it out and said that the electrical contact spring was broken and i needed a new one. my warrenty had ran out they said. they also told me that my airbag would not deploy even if i had an accident. i should not have to pay 165.00 for something like that when i have only had the car for 7 months. according to mckinney dodge when i bought the car i had 2 yrs or 25,000 miles. now they said that was for when it was new. it had almost 14,000 miles on it when i bought it back in march. they failed to tell me that warrenty was for a new car. i hope you will invesdicate this for me. my horn won't work due to this problem either. dt

Engine idle rough. idle speed drops below 500 rpm. throttle sticks open causing to surge at high rate of speed (2 occurances) engine lose of power, especially up small inclines. a/c or accessories have no effect on idle rpm. dealer recommend super grade gas (against manf recommendations) 2 dealers unable to duplicate problem. at 70mph engine hesitates and stalls, again dealer unable to dup. engine check light illuminated. however no codes are displayed for dealer. overall, engine idle bad, throttle sticks, vehicle stalls. driving skills have prevented accident. what can be done? nlm

Our car was struck by a hit and run driver while our son was in the process of parallel parking the car, the car was not moving but it was running. the car that hit ours was going about 40 miles per hour and did quite a bit of damage however the air bags never deployed. we contacted chrysler corp. and they sent an investigator to the repair shop. he at first could not get any information off of the air bag system because all of the wires to the air bag system had been cut in the accident. when we did get a report from chrysler they stated that the air bags did not deploy "because it, the car, did not develope the necessary decelerative force to energize the system". this we feel is a stupid statement because cars get hit everyday and the air bags deploy even if they are standing still. also when we were picking up our car from the repair shop the owner of the shop was showing us another chrysler product who was in an accident and its air bag did not deploy either. he claims it happens all the time. i feel the the system the chrysler uses is subject to damage which prevents the air bag deployment. i would appreciate any help you can give us in this matter. thank you. *ak

I bought this car brand new on may 31, 2001. the car came with 16 aluminum rims and the goodyear eagle low profile tires. this was used as part of the salesmen's speal to get me to buy the car. since may, i have had 6 or more instance of flat tires, some while driving on highways, some driving on side streets and some while parked. the dealer has fixed the problem each time. the first time i had to buy a new tire and rim which cost over $500. all of the other times they found the rims bent and simply used a hammer to bang them back in shape. i have spoken to the service mgr, jim martin and he himself personally banged the rim straight on 11/15. he also told me this is a known problem with aluminum rims that are not strong enough to withstand a pothole or even a driveway. the low profile tires, which are not much bigger then bicycle tires, are not big enough to prevent the rims from bending if i hit a pothole, speed bump, etc. the worst part is i spoke to several mechanics and they told me this is a common problem. because the rims are 16 inch, i can't replace them with steel rims because steel rims do not come in 16 inch sizes for a p195/50 tire. the only option they gave me is to go to a tire dealer and buy new tires and 15 inch steel rims or live with the problem. i fear for the safety of my wife and family and i think this should be looked at for a possible recall since it seems every dealer and mechanic in america knows this is an accident waiting to happen. please contact me asap. thank you.*ak (dot number: 83v tiresize: p195/50r16)

Gas pedal folded over at approx a 90 degree angle, towards driver when driver was attempting to back out of a driveway. since there was no support available for the foot to rest on, the foot slid off the gas pedal, sideways toward the brake. durning the foot sliding, tip of shoe caught small part of gas pedal still attached causing car to surge resulting in collision of parked car with right rear bumper of neon. gas pedal at this time was noted to have split/broke at exact same spot on outside of gas pedal, by brake, and inside of gas pedal near consol. both splits are right above where small screws connect a very thin, plastic gas pedal to metal rod at bottom 1/4 of pedal. dodge dealer insist this break was done intentionally by a human . yet they also insist that this part was near impossible to break. wow i have a very strong 16 yr old daughter ! i thank god that she was only backing out of a driveway when this happened and not driving down the freeway. car had been driven 3 times only when this occured.. *ak
