The engine on my Saab 9-5 2000 seized on the highway on Friday, February 10th.I am planning to take it into the Saab Dealer in Springfield, VA (Backlock, Rd) tomorrow (2/14) to see what they can do and would appreciate any assistance you can provide so that I am armed with any pertinent details when dealing with them. Here are the particulars of the incident:* Around 3:30pm on Friday, February 10: the Low Oil Pressure Light came on in my car. Within a minute, I heard a noise from the engine and began to pull over to the right-side shoulder, keeping an eye on the Engine Temperature which was normal (at mid-way). * Before I even pulled over to the right shoulder, I realized that smoke was coming from the engine. I completely pulled over and turned off the engine. All of this occurred within about 2 minutes.———I gave it about 10 mins and tried restarting the car, but the engine would not turn over and smoke was coming from the front side of the engine. My regular local garage said it was definitely something within the engine and that\’s where it stands as of today. —————Here is some recent history on the car:Date Miles Description11/12/2004 76493 Replaced Info Display & Brake Lights (Saab Dealer – Backlick, Rd)1/26/2005 78329 Checked Engine Light, Replaced PCV Valve (Saab Dealer – Backlick, Rd)3/30/2005 80374 Complaint: Huge puffs of smoke from the exhaust on start-ups, Action: Replaced the Turbo, Oil Filters, Seals, Oil Pressure Switch (Saab Dealer – Backlick, Rd)6/29/2005 85000 Oil Change 9/1/2005 86401 New Drive Belt, Pully, Tensioner11/15/2005 88000 90000 mile service, Air Filter, spark plugs, Oil/Filter Change=============The Saab Dealer had performed engine repair (installed a new Turbo unit and an Oil Pressure Switch) last March 2005 and the drive belt broke in August 2005, so would that help my case? Are these similar to the symptoms of other Saab engine failures?

My car burst into flames today and was a total loss. I had just had it to the dealer several days earlier for an electrical recall and repair. The car has numerous nurmerous problems over the years, I was only glad to escape the car without bodily injury–the entire front end of the car is melted/gone.

Brakes: ABS (bosch) control unit failed. New part quoted as $1500. Saab refused to provide any coverage or provide any partial assistance. Car completely inoperable with this control unit. Bought used ABS unit and had dealer install.Engine: Independent Saab trained mechanic diagnosed engine sludge problem. I contacted Saab headquarters, received information about sludge warranty. Case # 71589352703. Advised that I needed to have a Saab Dealer verify engine problem. Contacted Saab of Santa Ana. Customer Service Manager, Mike Burley (nice guy) advised inspection costs I’d have to pay up front were $650 to remove oil pan and check engine head. He advised that because I’ve done my own oil changes (despite the fact I can document purchasing high grade synthetic oil and changing at intervals earlier than saab recommended) Saab will not honor sludge warranty and I’m better off not paying costs to inspect. He estimated new engine costs at least $7500. I’ve meticulously performed all scheduled maintenance and gone beyond what’s required at the 60k and 90k services. Very dissappointed in Saab’s customer service. Especially since my prior vehicle was a 1993 Saab 900 turbo convertible. Last Saab I’ll ever buy
