Suddenly heard faint rattle from engine and had car towed into Saab dealer. Was told by dealer that the car needed a new lower engine block. Having read other reports online regarding sludge issues with Saab cars of this make/model and year I informed the dealer that my symptoms were consistent with others experiencing the sludge issue. The dealer then informed me there was no sludge found even though the engine went at 56,000 miles on a car that was maintained properly per Saab\’s recommendation. Saab will not reimburse me for the repair even though I have provided all service documentation.

Saab replied and rejected my claim for a third time. The letter they sent was exactly the same as the first one, but this time it was signed by an administrative assistant. I am going to send it again to the person at Saab who I found I your web site, Daniel Chasins, CEO, with another letter stating how callous his company has been in dealing with me personally and this issue in general. I am usually not a class or hierachical type person, but to go from a manager to her secretary after I spent so much time and effort on my letter is the ultimate insult. You can be assured I will be filing a small claims suit now, and please note that on my complaint on your website I want to be part of any class action suit. I really hope that you can do something about this soon especially after reading the other complaints out there. I\’m sure there are thousands more. How can you reach out to them to tell them to file a complaint with you? I just stumbled upon your website when searching for saab sludge problems. I have attached a copy of my most recent letter to Saab, which I was prompted to write after they denied my claim for reimbursement of the money I spent to have a new engine put in my car when mine abruptly died with no warning in 2003. They admitted there was a problem this past year as you know. So I submitted the paperwork again, but since I am missing a few oil change receipts, they again denied my claim. This has been quite an ordeal for me. To me it is simple. Saab is admitting there is a major problem in their engine design causing sludge build up and engine failure. I experienced this, communicated this to them, and their response is this: \"While the objective of Saab Cars USA, Inc. is to achieve full customer satisfaction, numerous factors are reviwed prior to offering assistance. After an automobile has been in service for a few years, vehicle usage, owner maintenance, and wear can contribute to difficulties beyond the manufacturer\’s control. Based on the information you have provided, we are unable to offer reimbursement for engine repairs under the special sludge policy.\" The kicker is I replaced my 2000 problematic engine with a 2001 design flawed engine.March 15, 2006Saab Cars USA, Inc.4405-A International Blvd.Norcross, GA 30093Attn: Betty Posey Customer Satisfaction SupervisorFILE: 1-78445110Dear Ms. PoseyI am writing to thank you for your recent apology and to inform you that Saab Cars USA has fallen well short of your objective

I purchased a 2000 Saab 9-3 in 8/2003. I replaced the engine for the car 9/04 ($7,500.) The car was 1,000 miles out of dealer warranty at that time. Since then, another system failure has occured – ignition and Catalytic Converter, along with failed oxygen sensors. I’ve spent $1000 to attempt repair of this problem. My car is still not running, and, my most recent estimate totals $3000+ to make this car reliable transportation. In the meantime (5/2005,) I have received information from Saab Cars USA regarding “oil sludge” issues and engine failure. I am pursuing repair consempation with Saab Cars USA and my case file #1-76461727.

I leased a Saab 93 2000 while driving the check engine light came on and immediately turned off engine and had Saab vehicle towed to Arroway Chev Saab dealership. I was within the warranty period and mileage period. Arroway Chev/Saab and Saab cars USA inc. would not stand behind the factory warranty 4yrs./50,000 miles after producing maintenance receipts for oil and filter changes for the recommended scheduled intervals. My seized engine Saab continued to sit at my dealership for 58 days (The cause of engine seizing was never determined). Finally I had my Saab vehicle towed out of the dealership to another NYS repair shop who determined it was a bad turbo and the intercooler and turbo were both loaded with oil. My dealership never drop the oil pan to determined the cause of my engine seizing. The dealership blamed the Saab representative for not authorizing to drop oil pan cost after dealer told the representative that sludge was in the engine with no maintenance records on file at dealership. All maintenance records were provided to dealership and Saab Cars USA Inc. before Saab was towed out of dealership. I have a small claims court case against the dealership in White plains NY for May 06. Saab Cars USA INC should be ashamed. Thank you on any information that will help my court case from WTC Rescue recovery worker.

emgine failure…and I qoute from you article on your website from the Saab spokesman Tom Beaman…”that the warranties have been extended to eight years on this model and that there is a sludge buildup that causes engine failure…and that he would notify owners”…but, that never happened…

After purchasing my 2000 Saab 9-3 Turbo the Engine blew, due to oil sludge. I had all my paperwork in order and proof this was what caused the failure. Saab cars USA.INC refused to repay me any repair cost because I did not have \"SAAB\" replace the Engine. Although they admit this model make and year does in fact have this problem. I feel a class action suit is in order.I know of a few other people this has happened to as well.A BOYCOT IS CERTAINLY IN ORDER!

After owning 3 Saabs this one which I purchased 3 years ago as a second owner. The car was still under factory warranty when I bought with about 45,000 miles and I\’ve only driven an average of 8,000 miles a year since then. Suddenly on Sept. 29 the car stalled and the oil pressure light came on. I took it to a Pep Boys which was nearby because I was terrified to drive it more than a mile or two not knowing what was wrong. Pep Boys changed the oil and thought that would probably help but mentioned the heavy sludge buildup and said they\’d rarely seen so much buildup. Naturally they asked how often I had the oil changed and I told them every year in the Spring and Fall. After the oil change my car drove for about 20 minutes without the oil pressure light on and then it began to flicker. This time I took it to the used car dealer that I had bought the car 3 years ago and which is a certified Saab repair center. These mechanics discovered that the inside valve cover and it appeared the rest of the engine; was full of a disproportionate amount of sludge. This dealer strongly suggested that I contact Saab because he believed it should be covered under their new 8 year extended warranty for this problem. he told me he had several Saab owners he had sold cars to were having similar problems. When I contaced Saab Customer service they said I could have it towed to a Saab dealership and it would cost me $300 (according to the dealer) to have the car evaluated diagnostically, even though all they need to do is confirm that the first mechanic was correct in his assessment. I was also told though that since I had not had the oil changes with a Saab dealer or didn\’t have receipts since my friend had done them – Saab was probably not responsible! I was basically dismissed. when I asked to speak to this woman\’s supervisor, she said she would give her a message and that I would be called back by the end of today. Of course I did not receive that call. I asked for the supervisors phone # and did get it and left a voicemail a short time ago, but I do not feel very comfortable about this customer service supervisor being able to make any kind of decisions in my favor. This is a dire situation for me. I still owe money on the car and I use it for my work. The fact that Saab is insisting that I do not qualify for retribution because I had my oil changes done by a friend and I don\’t have receipts seems unconscionable Furthermore, I cannot perform my job without a car and I cannot afford to buy a new one as well as take the financial loss of still having a $6,000 balance on this one.I do have receipts for most normal repair procedures through the local SAAB dealer. It\’s only oil changes that I took the car elsewhere and for which I would have had no reason to believe that was inappropriate; especially since they were all within the recommendated time frame by Saab. Can you help me please?
