2000 LAND ROVER Range Rover

purchased reacquired vehicle from LRNA. Told vehicle was “reacquired to promote customer satisfaction.” Upon trying to sell car, found in carfax that car has lemon title. LRNA now says that all their buybacks have lemon titles. They refuse to change policy and tell customers their buybacks carry this label. The continue to disclose only as buy back and do not check box on form for disclosure as “lemon”. I can not get but half of my paid price from LR dealers after only having car 4 months.

Automobile is dangerous: Air suspension went into limp mode at only 6500 miles, leaving driver stranded on highway; A/S harness was replaced at 7,941 miles; (X rear sensor) had problems in January, 2001 at 28,293 miles. Once again, vehicle went into limp mode in 2003 at 48,000 miles; now, again, at 76,000 miles, vehicle is still experiencing same air suspension problems; however, while driving car recently, air suspension malfunctioned, almost causing car to roll on curve.Additionally, in August, 2003, at about 51,000 miles, the entire electrical system in the Range Rover malfunctioned and left us stranded on Ocracoke Island, N.C. (difficult to get a tow there). Battery went dead, lights, control panel, windshield wipers, radio, all electrical components were disabled. Only one month after the electrical problem, the radiator, without warning, burst and left us stranded yet again on a desolate highway where cellular service was unavailable. While driving, I noticed the temperature gauge escalating so I pulled over immediately before vehicle had chance to overheat. I turnd off engine and did not see any steam until two minutes later. Surprisingly, the engine “melted” according to the dealer and we were stuck having to pay for a new engine. Now, the transmission has to be replaced and we are absolutely convinced that this vehicle, under the unusual circumstances, is a poorly and dangerously manufactured vehicle. Attempted to contact Michael O’driscoll, President of Land Rover and was interecepted by a supposed Liason Officer who showed no true interest in the safety of the vehicle; nor did he offer to assist in any way. Not mentioned above:28,293 miles- gear box lamp failure; transmission and tort converter had to be replaced. 6,522 miles- air springs and shocks had to be replaced44,978- front drive shaft malfunctioned and was replaced45,612- front drive shaft once again malfunctioned46,842 (mentioned above)- front air spring malfunctioned47,540- oil leak/ heater 47,561- left front door would not open47,583- seat switch malfunctioned

Tl* the contact owned a 2000 land rover range rover. the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the brake pedal was depressed to avoid a collision ahead and the vehicle skidded off the road. as a result, the contact crashed into a concrete barrier and a light post. the air bag failed to deploy. the contacts head/face struck with the steering wheel during the crash. the contact wore glasses and due to the force of the crash, it caused him to have two black eyes. the contact also sustained fractured ribs, collar bone, and legs that required medical attention. the contact mentioned that he went in intensive care unit due to being in a coma and currently taking anti-seizure medication. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a impound lot. the vehicle had not been taken to local dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer had not been informed of failure. the failure mileage was 94,738.

I was driving at ~10-15 mph around lake mead in nv. as i pulled to a stop sign smoke began to come from under the hood of the car. at first i thought the car was overheating and tried to navigate it to the side of the road. all the cars systems went out before i got it off the road (30 seconds from the first smoke) and the smoke was billowing out from under the hood. i jumped out and tried to open the hood, still thinking it was overheating, but i was unable to find the catch. i decided to move away from the car just in case. i walked about 10 paces away from the car and turned to see fire dripping down from the front. i decided to call 911. the front of the car was engulfed in flames before i could dial. by the time the 911 operator picked up the car was engulfed up to the middle of the body and the tires began exploding (this could be heard by the 911 operator). by the time i got off the phone the car was completely engulfed (this was less than 3 min from seeing the first smoke). the car burned completely, leaving no trace of anything but the metal frame. what is most disturbing is that the body/interior burned as if they had been doused with an incendiary. they went up so fast and shouldn't be flammable at all. just to emphasize this, i was hauling a sm trailer that had a canvas cover and the tarp was only scorched at the front; not burning at all. i found many other fires of this range rover just like mine reported on the internet. i am fairly certain that these fires are caused by a very flammable hood liner and that these cars are extremely dangerous. when i bought my range rover used i had noticed that the hood liner was burned where it was closest to the top of the engine and it seemed to be caused by the engine heat, but i hadn't ruled out human action. i was considering tearing the liner out when my car burned up (i had not owned the car long). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover range rover. whenever the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, she would hear a loud noise. there are no warning indicators illuminated when the failure occurs. the dealer stated that the intake manifold developed a large hole and, because it was a hole instead of a split, the failure would not be included in the recall. she called the manufacturer, but has not received a response. the intake manifold has not been repaired. the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 111,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover range rover. while driving at an unknown speed, the contact smelled smoke and pulled the vehicle off the road. he noticed flames under the hood of his vehicle. within minutes, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. the fire department extinguished the fire and a report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to a junk yard. there were no injuries. the failure mileage was 77,000.

Incident: car tire blew up, leading the car to swerve off the median and shifting to the emergency line. wheel damaged rubbing against the barrier separating the north and south bound of the highway. *tr

While driving 55 mph on i-80, my 2000 range rover engine cut out, after pulling to the side of the road, a small flame was visible under the rear engine. an entire fire extinguisher was emptied under the car, yet the vehicle burned up 100%. a total loss of all contents of the vehicle. my son was lucky to escape from the vehicle. the range rover had 128,000 and was regularly serviced by the dealer. the car is available for viewing at jacks towing yard in sacramento, california. *jb

Dt: the consumer states that 2000 land rover range rover came out of the park lock function. this happened three times. the consumer was in the vehicle all three times, was able to hit the brake, and put the parking brake on. the consumer turned the vehicle off all three times. the consumer had to put the parking brake on every time that he got out of the vehicle. the consumer called the dealership and asked about a recall. the dealership told the consumer that they were unaware of any recall on land rovers for transmission problems. the dealership did not believe the consumer when he told them about recall 00v377000 listed on the nhtsa website. the consumer has not contacted the manufacturer yet, but was going to do so. the consumer was going to have transmission flushed to correct the problem, but questioned if land rover was going to reimburse him for repair cost. *ak

Coolant was found leaking onto the floor of the front passenger seat. in addition, one of the coolant hoses developed a leak, causing the vehicle to begin overheating. the dealer replaced the hose, but also reported the heater core o-rings needed to be swapped. the o-rings caused the original problem of coolant leaking to the vehicle's interior. after a short online investigation, this appears to be a problem for quite a few range rover owners.*ak

Ongoing problem with the automatic stability control suspension which failed to operate while driving 50 mph.*jb please provide further information.

Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership on december 2003 for regular maintenance, and the technician determined that the transfer case needed to be replaced. *ak the consumer was told the part was unavailable. *jb

I purchased a 2000 range rover from bear valley rovers in atlanta and the vehicle was/is in pristine shape . when i purchased it, it had 43,000 miles with 5,000 miles remaining on the warranty. at 53,000 the transmission went bad and had to be replaced. this is not normal that a transmission would only last 53,000 miles and the vehicle has never been off-road a day in its life. *jb

While driving, the front suspension drop out. dealer has inspected the vehicle six times and could not duplicate or correct the problem.*jb

1. whenever i drive over speed bumps or pot holes, it feels like the body of the vehicle vibrates. 2. while the vehicle is in motion, i hear a lot of rattling noise.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with the vehicle stalling. also states that while driving the vehicle all the panel lights turn on and the vehicle stops. dealer was contacted and stated that there was a recall on the transmission was replaced and there when the problem started with the panel lights and the vehicle stalling. also stated that the vehicle transmission will be replaced for the second time but consumer does not agree that it has nothing to do with the transmission. mr

While traveling on highway smelled smoke .then, smoke started coming inside of vehicle. vehicle was on fire.*ak

Both rear passenger doors will not lock from inside or outside. dealer replaced a computer component. please add further information.*ak

*ak consumer stated the air suspension system has malfunctioned repeatedly, the system fails while vehicle is in operation, vehicle is then undrivable but does start, locks in fully elevated position, locks in fully deflated position, mores up and down, vehicle shakes violently, warning lights flash and warning appears not to exceed 35 mph, driver control of vehicle is compromised, consumer has contacted dealership numerous times on this, so far with no response or solution to problem, vehicle has less than 9000 miles, also the transmission had to be replaced, the radio was replaced after a loud booming noise was heard while changing stations and the windshield washer pump was replaced and later repaired again after the new pump stopped working. *yd

Consumer has had few incidents with vehicle rolling forward. dealer has tried some repairs that have not remedied vehicle form rolling. consumer picked vehicle up on june 8 2001 from delear. dealer adjusted transmission linkage, and next day consumer parked in a shopping center parking lot. vehicle was put in park, turned off, consumer got out, and the vehicle rolled forward hitting a lady. manufacturer and dealer have not found a remedy. *ak *slc

After approximately one month of operation, i noticed that the driver's side rear view mirror vibrated constantly making it very difficult to view traffic to the left side of the driver. the sensation is similar to focusing on an object while being tossed to and fro. i have made many requests to the dealer to have the situation repaired to no avail. i am now in the process of filing a complaint through the states lemon law statute. several customers have complained about the mirror and none have received any assistance. i have received conflicting responses from technical and engineering professionals associated with land rover. these responses include mechanical defects, just my personal problem, and engineering design defect.*ak

There is a a very serious danger that exists in year 2000 (2000+?) range rovers. namely, the possibility of the steering column becoming uncoupled, and the consequent loss of control, and possible danger.

Brake/fog lamp assembly (rear tailgate mount) leaks water into the reflective lens area, creating safety hazard. driver's door mirror, previously replaced for same defect, vibrates when vehicle in motion, causing distraction and inability to view images to rear and side, especially at night with oncoming headlight glare. this problem is common among range rovers and does not occur on right side (passenger ) door. problem on previous vehicles: 1995-2000 models experienced by owner. *ak
