The van would idle errattically then stall. It would jerk and hesitate while driving then when you would stop at a light or stop sign it would stall unless you kept your foot on the gas

DIPSTICK TUBE LEAKS OIL

The switch does not work properly. When you take the key out switch is still on. Has to be jiggled about to be sure it is turned off. Has been on and lights inside have run battery down. Also when driving the door ajar light stays on or the check oil light stays on and you can hear noises in dash. They sound like clicking noises. Want to find out if there are any recalls on my van. Purchaed van around july of 1993. I purchased the Auto ArmorECP protection plan ofter two years the paint failed and ecppaid to have the van painted. I was given a lifetime warrantyfrom BOB BELL Ford Company. (Which I have). The clear coat that was applied at that time is comming off and is under the warranty. Bob Bell Ford is refusing to honor the lifetimewarranty. I have been through the attorney General the mediator. he could not resolve. sugest I get a laywer and go to court. That is were I am at this point. Bob Bell claims a factory recall and ford did notpay to remove door handles and windows and mirrors.I havechecked and the 93 ford areostar was not recalled,but he isusing this as his defense. can you help in this matter at all. Radio display doesn’t work, power seats failed, radiator was replaced-failed, power steering leaks, BRAKES FAILED. I think it’s the master cylinder but it could be the booster or anything else. The passenger front caliper froze in the one position as well and I replaced it. Then after about another 100 miles the whole system failed.

Backed into pine tree in driveway. shattered plastic bumper cover. can not replace bumper cover because ford says obsolete. also no after market bumper can be found for this model. this bumper protects no one. *js ford won't even give me the ford part number. its a cargo van. other model covers can be bought from after market sellers but not the cargo van. only place to get one is junk yards if you are get lucky. most of their covers are busted also. a car is a hazard without a bumper. *js

Tl*the contact owns a 1993 ford aerostar. the contact stated that his vehicle was produced with a higher than specified electrical load through the accessory power feed circuit. the potential for contact between the b2 (battery), a2 (accessory), and p1 (proof) circuits can occur; therefore, creating a short circuit and allowing current to flow through the ground wire. on numerous occasions, he noticed that the switch module melted and the instrument control panel lighting was inoperative. as a result, the risk of a severe fire increased. the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 99v029000 (electrical system:ignition:switch); therefore, they would not assume financial responsibility for the repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 168,000 and current mileage was 180,000.

Bought four tires: sigma shadow. 55,000 miles warranty. 215/75r14, 6k60, at tire kingdom located at: 8790 sw 24th st. miami, fl. 33165. telephone 305 227 4110. *tr on oct. 22, 2007 the rear right tire blewout. the tire had 7,194 miles. tire kingdom gave me two tires which they installed in the front. on nov. 19, 2007 another tire blewout. this tire had 10,550 miles. this last incident happened in houston. i went to ntb (part of the same company) located at: 7115 fm 1960 road west. telephone 281- 580-1689. i talked to the mgr. mr. fred johnson. i showed him the blownout tire, all the papers etc..and asked him to replace the blownout tire plus the other original tire. he said that he would only replace the blownout tire, he did not have the tire in stock so i had to return. since he did not want to replace the two original tires, i asked him for the name and telephone of the district mgr. he told me that his name was arthay benton and his telephone 1-865-951-4622. i called mr. benton and explained the problem to him. he said he would call me back. the person that called me back was mr. fred johnson and told me that they would not give me any tires not even replace the blownout tire. i took the blownout tire to another ntb store and they replaced it. i am very concerned about the safety of these tires particularly the original tire. the first incident happened on i-10 in florida, the second incident on 610 in houston. in both incidents, when the tires failed, i lost control of the car and miraculously i did not have an accident. if you need additional information, let me know. sincerely antonio durance *tr

Just got home and was parked in front of the house. about 30 min later someone was knocking on are door telling us the van was on fire. there was no keys left in the van. the fire burn the dash and the right side of the inside of the engine and the hood. the van is now total. *nm

Brake lights constantly shorting out. i have to replace them 2 or more times per year. i use long-life bulbs, but they continually go out. i see many other aerostar vehicles with similar situation. while this has not caused an accident yet, unless i constantly check the lights, i may be involved in an accident and/or ticket due to this defect. *nm

While turning left in an intersection the steering wheel lock up on my aerostar ford '93 that caused me to turn over to the left and hit the opposite lane and hit a car. i was unable to straighten out the wheel as it locks up. after it was restarted the steering wheel was fine and 2 mechanics that i brought it to can't find any problems.*jb

The front end needed to be aligned because new tires were installed. the mechanic was unable to perform the front end alignment because the front left ball joint and inner tie rod were worn. *jb

I bought 4-tires at sear in kingsport tennessee in february 2004 and noticed that all 4-tires had bad places on the tires ,took the vehicle back they said it was the belts broke in them but it was okay to drive .i asked them to replace these tires because i eas going on vacation and it needed to be done now.then they say the tires are like that ,so i checked the tires on the wall there and there wasnt a tire there like mine with these places on them. alkl the way to the beach the van shook because they said these tires were ok,sears logo is satisfactioned guaranteed right. if one of my kids or family gets hurt because of these tires sears will be in a lawsuit over 4- tires that should be replaced instead of asking any questions.*ak

Headlight switch runs so hot it melts the plastic plug body into which the wiring harness terminals are inserted. i will be purchasing the second replacement switch today (3 total switches since new). with the instrument panel trim removed and 1/2 hr driving with headlights on the switch is too hot to touch. the contact that provides power to the tail lights, instrument panel lights and radio night light seems to be the source of heat as that terminal shows the greatest damage due to heating.*ak

Dear nhtsa; below is correspondence with goodyear tire company. i have had problems with the dunlop rover touring gt tire number pn p22570514 as detaled below. i do not have further tire information since the vehicle is in the united states but i can obtain it as necessary. thank you, mark devries *la 3 october 2003 dear sir: on 6-22-01 i purchased 4 dunlop rover touring lt tires for my 1992 aerostar van, milage 108,098 at sears eagle ridge mall, lake wales fl. on 8-6-03, the vehicle (138,690 miles) was returned to sears eagle ridge because the right front tire was separating from the tread. a new dunlop rover touring lt was mounted. on 8-12-03 my family were on the florida turnpike when they suddenly heard a "thump,thump" from the right rear similar to the sound heard the previous week with the separated tire. this time the tire exploded and my wife barely managed to control the vehile while steering the van to the side of the turnpike. i have digital pictures of the exploded tire and my van. my family continued to louisiana where they departed for indonesia where we are resident with chevrontexaco, leaving the van with my daughter who attends university in lafayette, la. i think the original dumlop tires are defective and are unsafe. how else do you explain one blowout and one potential blowout within 300 miles. i have instructed my daughter to only use the van within town and not to use it on the highway or exceed 50 mph. i do not feel the remaining tires are safe and am very concerned that they also may suddenly fail. the number given above is for my parents home. i can email with pictures of the exploded tire and scanned copy of the exploded tire replacement purchase. i am also mailing a copy of this email and supporting documents to goodyear corporate headquarters. i intended to take care of this sooner but did not receive copies of the exploded tire until recently. thank you, mark devries [email protected] 3 october *la

They say "where there's smoke there's fire" so that's why i checked the fire button on the form. just to the right of the accelerator the carpet started smoking. we still don't know the cause. but, everytime we run the car an awful smell results. we no longer drive long distances. it's our only car but i we'll have to take it to the garage soon. with holiday bills this couldn't have come at a worse time.

Recall 97v204000 on transfercase was done in 1999. at this time vehicle is shaking at 40 mph. dealer determined driveshaft needs to be replaced again. *ak

Recall 97-v-2041-000; whenever making a left turn vehicle will jerk to one side. contacted dealer, and dealer is not willing to do anything.*ak

The van idles very rough of stalls. while stopped (in gear) it will surge forward even with the brakes on. while accellerating from a stopped position it will go then sputter and jerk. while traveling at any speed, it will suddenly jerk as though the transmission is failing. each time we have had the problem, ford has covered it under the warranty. we are out of warranty now but feel this is a defect that ford should take care of. they first told me they could do nothing. my father-in-law saw a program about aerostar vans having a problem with the same symptoms as ours and the group that was reporting this was trying to get ford to recall the vehicles. my father-in-law did not get the name of the group or the problem but told us about it. i told ford about this but they said they know nothing. i have since talked to ford again and they said they might pay for a portion of the repair but that i have to take it in and they will decide after that if and how much they will contribute. this problem is not a worn parts problem. it is a defect that creates an unsafe condition. each time they have replaced the part, the van runs great for about a year to two years. then the identicle situation recurrs. please advise me on what to do. thank you.

After campaign 99v029000 was completed, i still had major electrical issues, including: the turn signals not working, interior light anomolies and bogus abs brake system warnings from the dashboard lights. i replaced the ignition switch, the issues no longer happened. i took the old switch apart, it did have the issues described in nhtsa campaign id number: 99v029000. i feel the campaign was not completed correctly on my vehicle or there is a deeper issue with the ignition switch. *ak

While driving southbound on i-65 in nashville, my husband and i began to smell smoke and then suddenly smoke began pouring from the steering column of our 1993 ford aerostar. after pulling over on the side of the road, i removed our two small children while my husband attempted to shut off the van. although the van was in park and the keys had been removed, the vehicle still was attempting to crank itself and would not stop until we placed the van in reverse (with the parking brake on) and unhooked the battery. a man who stopped to help us alerted us to the fact that there had been recalls on the ingnition switch of several ford models which could potentially cause fires. this is a very dangerous situation and people should be alerted in order to save their lives. *ak

Cruise control/horn quit working/airbag light flashes, and smoke came from steering column at ignition switch. *ak

Airbag indicator flashing on and off. dealer says its a failed clock spring. airbag not functional. *ak

Key switch recall speedometer/transmisson overdrive/radio not working called ford and was told ignition switch recall caused this to happen .took van in problem was not fixed and was told we did not talk toanyone at ford also talked to dealership with no help talked to a tech. he said it would cause the problem s we are having. *ak

Power windows do not go down properly. i have to manually push them down in order to open them. this started just after the car warranty expired. in november of 1998, i was unable to start my car. i lifted the hood and discovered a small flame on an electrical wire. i had already been having problems with the key not fitting properly in the ignition, the bell sounding even if the key were not inserted in the ignition and the digital read-out of the radio will work intermittently. i had the car towed and had to have a new starter installed. i would like to know if any of these problems has anything to do with the recall for the electrical/ignition system currently being performed? *ak

To whom it may concern : i have had my vehicle repaired by jack demmer ford at a cost of $3600.00 due to multiple electrical problems. all harnesses were replaced. i have the old ones which i can make available to you . the burn marks in the middle of the harness away from any connectors suggests a serious problem which seems like the same type of problem you just investigated ford about. *ak

Rotors have warped 4 different times. each time, braking efficiency is lessened creating a safety concern. dealer refuses to fix rotors under my extended warranty.

The rear strut that holds up the tailgate exploded as the tailgate was closed at the grocery store. it sent a metal piece shooting through the air, striking me in the head, then cotinuing on and breaking the front windshield in 3 places before finally stopping. i was sent to the dodtor with a concussion, and blurred vision. i later had to return to the eye doctor because of the blurred vision. the vision and the headaches have since cleared up. i was very lucky i didn't lose an eye or someone wasn't killed. the piece of metal is about 12 inches long, and it struck me in my temple area. *ak

At 33836 miles the transmission went out and they the dealer replaced it,again at another 34000 miles the next transmission goes out and now the dealer says that because of the over all miles combined that they will not fix it. on top of this ,its a lease and im needing to have it fixed before jan 1999 and i have no way to pay for this out of pocket and when i talked to 1-800 ford they said its not really there problem they just make sure that the dealers do the warranty work they are to do. help!!!!!!!

While driving on freeway, vehicle has stalled on three separate occasions, consumer experienced very hard steering and brakes with no power, vehicle was towed and consumer was advised vehicle was fixed, but it was not fixed and vehicle stalled again on the freeway, vehicle was towed back to dealership and consumer was advised that alternator was causing vehicle to stop running, even though dealership advised consumer it was fixed and also charged her over $1000.00 for previous repairs. *jb

The vehicle is experiencing the same defect as stated in the tsb 96-10-13, which indicates the left rear tire rubbing on the wheelhouse inner panel in jounce position and heavy loads due to mislocated body bracket, the vehicles tire experienced tread separation which may have been the result of the bracket defect. *mjs
