1993 BUICK LeSabre

When I first purchased this car it had a few very small paint bubbles on the hood and doors but no primmer was showing,after about 6 months of driving it the paint started to come off in a flake here a flake there I got a little worried so I put some touch up paint on the spots , but as time went on as I drive down the street huge flakes come off sometimes it sticks to my windshield and interfers whith my driving,I have been tring to save the money to have it painted but with a couple of kids and a home there is always something else that my money goes to, Recently I was speaking with someone who owned the some type and year car and he told me that it was a factory defect and Buick would pay for the cost to re-paint the whole car,I did some research and found out it was true,When I contacted Buick I was told it was not, I requested that they pay for the cost of the hood to be re-painted so I could avoid an accident but thet stiil refused and the woman who I spoke with Esther Clark sent me a letter with a service request # S1-76164937 state that it was not a defect that was covered under there 3 year 36,000 mile warranty and they could not help me,I know it\’s not covered under the factory warranty but I think it should be covered under the defect recall I read in this web site. Could you help me in anyway I just want my hood painted how much incovience could it cause them.Thank YouSean McManus

Paint just started peeling off in large pieces like it is not bonding to the primer or sealer under the paint.The park lights have quit working. My original problem started Feb. 1998. The dealer sublet the car to a Dibbles Body Works to have the vehicle repainted. In Aug.2002 the hood once again needed to be redone for the original problem. The local GMC dealer referred me to the sublet who claimed it was not their problem (too much time had evolved). I paid for another repaint. Here it is Mar.2003 and more paint is lifting from the vehicle. To prevent any further loss I must pay at least $750.00 to have the vehicle spot painted. Or I can pay $4,000. and have the whole vehicle painted. I want to get money from GM. Should I sue in Small claims court? Any suggestions? My first complaint is File # S1-9325581 At Buick. Driving the car normally, and the engine suddenly quits, and with it, so does the power steering. very dangerous, but i have been able to restart in neutral, luckily. why?? *tr

As i drive down the road, it doesn't matter at what speed, my engine will suddenly die. there is no warning lights, no lurching nor sputtering, it just drops dead. when this happens i know there is power to my car because the lights and radio seem unaffected. however, my engine, power steering and power brakes all drop out. i have to stop the car from rolling, put it into park and restart it to continue. there is no particular length of time between these stalls. it has happened one right after the other or hours apart i have had the coil, plugs and wires all changed. all connections are good and battery is fine.. i am very frightened that is this happens in heavy traffic it may cause an accident. *tt

I have owned the car for 3 1/2 yrs now and this is the first time i have had this type of brake failure. the brakes went all the way to the floor and the car sled, i was trying to come to a complete stop to make a turn. the abs lite has been on the car almost ever since i bought it.

I recently bought a used '93 buick lesabre limited with about 80,000 miles on it. i drove it for two days without incident and then the brakes failed completely, the pedal sinking to the floor. i subsequently learned the master brake cylinder is kaput. i can understand if the brakes fail if there's a leak in the lines or the pads haven't been replaced--those are maintenance items that are the driver's responsibility. but a master cylinder should at the very least warn me with an idiot light(they had idiots back in '93 too) and preferably should last the life of the car. it's in otherwise good shape with only two owners and no accidents. all the hoses are new and the interior is in good shape, so i don't think rough handling caused the failure. it seems like this should be a recall issue even though the car is older, as brakes are vital to safety. i had a 97 honda with over 250k and its still using the original brakes although the pads and drums have been redone several times. the type of failure i experienced could well have killed me. *tr

1993 buick lesabre - the motor-transmission mount failed at the point of accelerating from and intersection. the rear of the mount dropped to the pavement resulting in a complete loss of steering and braking. diagnosis by the buick dealer making the repair is that this failure is due to rust. the car was originally sold in rochester, michigan. i am the second owner in northwest ohio. due to both states and areas using road salt, the mount failed. the ohio dealer states they have never had this type of failure before, but the tow-truck driver stated he picked up a pontiac bonneville, same frame/chassis, last year. fortunately i had just left an intersection and the speed was about 15 m.p.h. when the mount dropped. the car steered itself across the road and i was able to stop it with the emergency brake before going down into the ditch on the opposite side of the road. at higher speeds this could easily be fatal for any of the occupants. *tr

While turning a corner, the rear engine cradle dropped to the pavement, causing a loss of fluid and steering. a collision with a vehicle in the opposite lane was narrowly missed. this situation srose with virtually no warning other than a slight difficulty in steering shortly before the incident occurred. the failure of this component was immediate and catastrophic, and i find it unconscionable that general motors has not addressed this problem, especially in light of the fact that the dealer told me that a recall was made to other buick models for the same problem. with the ageing out of other similar vehicles more accidents of this kind are bound to happen. the nhtsa should fully investigate this situation before there is a loss of life. i have the full information regarding the repairs required to the vehicle if you wish it.*ak

Alternator has been replaced 3 times, it will stall and then just die, the fuses are a ongoing thing they just keep blowing like there is a short in the box , it is always the # 11 fuse, this car only has 38000 miles on it. but i know there is a short in the wiring and i think that is what is causing the alternator to keep going out. it also misses between 40 and 50 miles an hr. i have replaced plugs and plug wires and nothing helps it. i got this car from a man that was 78 yrs old and he bought the car new, he replaced the alternator twice and i have replaced it 1 time since sept. when i got the car. from all the reports i think this needs to be investigated, before 1 burns and hurts somebody. *ak

Shifted car into reverse and forward gears, car would not move. after awhile car would slowly start to move, then pick-up speed and operate properly. transmission had to be replaced.

I had my car in cruise control, set at 70mph, and i was cresting a hill when my car lost power. i took it off cruise control but it would not run. it would surge then slow down. it seemed to have vapor locked. i had many close calls with other cars because i was in heavy traffic. i had to drive on the shoulder with my flashers on until i could get to a gas station. i shut the car off for 2 hours and it was ok. it has done this several times , i have had many repairs on it and it still is not fixed.
