1990 CADILLAC DeVille

The car while turning intermittently dies and looses any acceleration stalls and most of the time starts back up when lifting foot of the gas and sometimes dies. also the car accelerates on its own sometimes very quickly. the car stalling while making a left turn got me t-boned by someone while making a left hand turn. i'm not the only one with this problem. this defect is going to get somebody killed.

This problem is intermittent. on warm days, when driving with airconditioning.turned on, the car stalls and then quickly starts up again. no notice from computer problem light. note other owners of this car have had similar problems even after dealer check.........one dealer informed me that it is the baffle around the fuel take that cuts the ignition out and i should keep fuel completely filled to top or at least half full. yesterday when the problem happened again, it was warm in los angels, had 11 gallons in tank and still had problem. no recall was ever initiated by us government or gm. my car is a 1990 cad with only 80,000 miles and maintained regularly. *tr

Car accelerated out of control with speed at 100+ miles per hour. the brakes failed/ would not move. the accelerator moved away from my foot. this happen a total of 4 times with my car. each time the dealer said it was a different problem. my car was a 1990 cadillac sedan deville, 4 door. the toyota recall described exactly what happen to my car. the 911 call televised on the news with the family that was killed in the toyota car, the caller said "the car was accelerating out of control and the brakes had failed". this is what i remember with my incidents and this brought back those memories. i hope this can help. i do not believe it is the floor mats, that is what i thought. the dealership said it was the brake booster at first and then said it was the throttle body. i did sent a complaint to gmc in detroit, mi but never heard back. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1990 cadillac deville. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle's steering wheel began to smoke for thirty seconds. the air bag light has remained illuminated for two months. the mechanic stated that the water pump caused the air bag light to fail. the contact also noticed a rubbing noise coming from the axle when making a left and right turn. the steering failure has not been diagnosed. the current mileage is 175,512 and failure mileage was 175,480.

The consumer set the cruise control at 48 mph. the consumer came upon a vehicle that was making a turn therefore she had to slow down. she stated she put her foot on the brakes to slow the vehicle down, but nothing happened. she then placed both feet on the brake pedal but the vehicle still didn't slow down. the consumer ended up rear ending the vehicle in front of her. the vehicle air bags deployed and the driver blacked out for a minute. the consumer stated when she came to she was hanging off an embankment on the other side of the road. she states that her cruise control would not disengage. the consumer was transported to a hospital by ambulance and the vehicle was towed to her residence. the consumer has recently found out that a lot of cadillac's are having problems with the cruise control module. *nm

The trunk lid shut and locked with consumer's hand stuck in it. a neighbor had to pry open the trunk with a tire iron. the cause of the problem had not been determined. *ak trunk lid was frozen, when hand was stuck in the lid, the lock setting misaligned. incident happened twice, both in cold temperature. consumer suspected the icing around the trunk which caused the problem. in addition, even the use of a key won't unlock the trunk. *la

Consumer complained about a jbs technology remote starter problem which he installed in the vehicle. it was called the bulldog remote control starter. *ak

The drivers seat-belt latch no longer will retain the buckle when inserted. *la

While driving 35 mph and without any reason vehicle suddenly accelerated to 65 mph. brakes were applied to decelerate vehicle and they didn't work, resulting in a collision. dealer and independent shop could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. *ak

Pe00020; tire tread separation: while driving about 65-70 mph, tread on the rear passenger's side tire came off. driver managed to get vehicle to the side of the road safely. no one was injured. firestone fr 360, tire size p205 70r15, on a 1990, cadillac, deville. not original tire equipment. firestone was contacted about the tire. firestone paid for the replacement of the tire, towing charges, replacement for a new battery and car damages. *ak the customer agreed and bought new firestone tires to replace the old ones but now does not feel safe to drive. *yh

Wife left car parked in driveway in park, exited the car walked to the top of the drive to pick up rakes proceeded back behind and past the car when the car crashed into her critically injuriing her.*ak

There has been 2 times that this engine has failed almost costing our lives.*ak

Sharp pull of steering wheel with a hard brake application during a non-abs stop. *ak

Hobbie diagnosed and replaced engine motor mount in march 1999. we had the car checked at an independent repair shop in june 2000 (5676 miles on new part) and they found that the new mount was broken. we feel that the part may have been broken at the time of installation. called both hobbie and general motors. neither will acknowledge that the motor mount is defective nor will they admit to a problem.

Engine mounts were broken / intermittent rough idle caused by def grounding system.

Barrington motor works had made more excuses than fix problems, other problems exist, but too many to list. the barrington mw has never once found a problem till the car leaves us stranded, even after we complained about that problem. until i find a decent gm dealer, this is the last gm for us, we are sick and tired of cadillac dealers, and we have been to many.

My car was parked in my driveway-several seconds after starting the vehicle i smelled a strong burning oder and then seen whisps of smoke coming from the back side of the air bag in the steering wheel-i shut off the ignition and the smoke quit shortly after - i restarted the vehicle and the air bag started to smoke in a few seconds again--i disconnected the s.i.r. connector on the steering column and restarted the vehicle-no smoke or smell with s.i.r. disconnected-i removed the air bag from the steering wheel-on the back side of the air bag module there is a round steel cap about 4 inches in diameter and 1/2 high fastened to the back of the air bag module--this was very hot and had black soot coming out all around the edges where it attaches to the air bag module-----i took the air bag module too my local cadillac dealer-they checked for any recalls or tech bulletins and said i should contact cadillac div. concerning this as it was past warranty--i called cadillac consumer relations center on 4/12/90 they seemed concerned about the problem and took a very detailed report about what happened -even the time of day and temp.--they said they would get back to me in3-5 days--about a week and a half later they got called me back and said vehicle is out of warranty and i should bring it to my local dealer and get it fixed at my expense-.-i told them i would contact the nhtsa as i felt this was a definite safety concern-they just said they would notate it in the file. *ak

For a some time i noticed the auto was not starting as quick as usual and i smelled gas a couple of days thing the gas station attendant had over filled my tank. i kept smelling gas so took it to get checked. the gas sender lines were all pitted and rusty. the gas tank was also pitted and rusty at the seams and other areas of the tank. i was wondering why in the past few months my gas mileage was so poor all of a sudden. besides, i would think it to be a very dangerous thing. the auto has been kept under cover since i bougt it , i don't believe such important components should have rusted and pitted so badly unless it was poor quality material. if i was in an accident it could have easily caused a fire. it caused me $ 710.00 to replace tank and sender. i notified the manufacturer of the problem, but received no acknowlegement.

The michelin tire blew out causing a possible collsion with one injury (limited information provided). *mjs
