BALTIMORE — The WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team has discovered car owners in Maryland and across the country have claimed their car engines are not only defective, but unsafe.
But as the owners demand the automaker take responsibility, the I-Team found they may be out of luck.

Hyundai has informed its dealers of a possible fluid leak from the automatic transmission on its four- and six-cylinder vehicles from the 1999 to 2006 model years.
The information was contained in a technical service bulletin sent recently to dealers. Such bulletins are not recalls but simply tell dealers how to detect and fix a problem.

Child dies in car fire

A vehicle fire in the parking lot of a Rock Island Kmart store Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a child, authorities said.
Rock Island police Capt. Scott Harris said that the fire was reported in an SUV at 1:58 p.m. at the Kmart store located at 3840 46th Ave.
"There was a report that possibly somebody was trapped inside," he said. "The fire department extinguished the fire quickly, but unfortunately, a child died as a result of the fire."
Police said the vehicle was a Ford Explorer.
