Limo alterations can create weaknesses – 5/7/13

 (05-07) 08:11 PDT SAN FRANCISCO — Investigators are likely to find that a fuel leak, an electrical short or the ignition of something flammable in the cabin or trunk caused a limousine blaze that killed five women on the San Mateo Bridge, experts on vehicle fires said Monday.
Authorities looking into Saturday’s fire revealed little Monday, but said the 1999 Lincoln Town Car with nine women aboard had not been in a crash before flames spread from its rear. They said road debris did not appear to be a factor.

Florida Trooper Killed in Fiery Crash

A Florida Highway Patrol officer was killed in a fiery crash on the turnpike Saturday night.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Trooper Patrick Ambroise was parked in his 2006 Ford Crown Victoria on the right shoulder near the Okeechobee interchange, when his cruiser was hit in the back by a black Lexus.
Both vehicles caught fire and Ambroise was unable to get out. He died at the scene.
The driver of the Lexus was identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Robert Garcia from Miramar.

Cruisers to be fitted with new safety panels

BOARDMAN Township police officers have another line of defense against injury during rear-end cruiser collisions.

The department bought 10 vehicular fire protection systems, called FIRE Panels, to install over the gas tanks of the Ford Crown Victoria cruisers. Each panel, a polymer shell containing a fire suppression powder, costs $495. The money is coming from the department’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund, cash seized during drug and other investigations.

Family of four dies in accident

A Joplin family’s trip to Dallas ended in tragedy Sunday when the car was struck by a tractor-trailer and caught fire.
Killed in the crash were Robert Hayes, 52, his wife, Melissa, 41, and sons Tyler, 15, and Colby, 14.
Sgt. Brent Crittenden of the Pryor (Okla.) Police Department said witnesses reported that the Hayes vehicle stopped about 1:15 p.m. for a traffic light at U.S. Highway 69 and Southeast 49th Street.

Fort Worth officer killed while helping motorist

FORT WORTH — A 34-year-old Fort Worth police officer with two young daughters died early Sunday when his patrol car was rear-ended and burst into flames along Interstate 35W.

Officer Dwayne Freeto was pronounced dead at the scene. He had responded to a stranded motorist call on southbound I-35W at Morningside Drive around 3:45 a.m.

Promising Fashion Model Dies In Fiery Crash


TRENTON, N.J. — She’d recently appeared on the cover of Italian Vogue, and had modeled for top designers at shows this summer in Milan and Paris.

But now, 19-year-old Heather Bratton is dead, the victim of a fiery crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. Authorities confirm that she was killed in the three-car crash a week ago.

A statement from her booking agency said she’d been headed to Newark International Airport. Her stepfather told the New York Post she’d been in New York for a photo shoot.
