Father Describes Port of Los Angeles Crash That Killed Two Young Sons – 4/15/15

The father behind the wheel of the car that plunged into the water at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro on Thursday, killing his 8 and 13-year-old sons, called the crash “a really bad accident.”

Ali Elmezayan described the chain of events that led to the tragic crash, telling KTLA he stopped the car at Berth 73 so he, his wife, and two sons could take in the view.

“I try to park next to the ocean,” Elmezayan said.  But he said the car “didn’t stop.” “I don’t know how this happened,” he said.

Lawsuit Settled Over 2007 Connecticut Van Drowning – 12/9/2013

The families of a woman and three children who drowned when a van rolled into a Bridgeport, Conn., pond in 2007 have settled a lawsuit against the dealership that sold the van.

The van was parked at Beardsley Park on July 4, 2007, when it began rolling down a hill. Michelle McIntosh, 39, ran after the van but couldn’t stop it and drowned, as did the children inside the van. An investigation determined one of the children had shifted the transmission into drive.

Adele Ridless and Mort Victor had their bags packed Thursday but never made their flight. The couple was found dead in their home in the Boca Pointe community, and authorities suspect the culprit was a car left running in the garage.

Firefighters detected high levels of carbon monoxide Thursday afternoon when they entered the home on Travelers Tree Drive, west of Boca Raton. That invisible, odorless gas likely killed Ridless, 69, and her 79-year-old boyfriend, thePalm Beach CountySheriff’s Office said.

Former Arizona Congressman Dies In DC At Age 67

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Former Arizona congressman Jay Rhodes has died in Washington, D.C., from complications following an automobile accident last year. He was 67. Family members say Rhodes died Thursday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. They say he had been treated for three fractured vertebrae suffered in an October car crash and took a turn for the worse about 10 days ago. Born in Mesa, Rhodes was a Republican who served Arizona’s First Congressional District from 1987 to 1993.

Ashley Turton, former Hill aide, dead in burning car

The wife of a key White House aide was found dead early Monday in a sport-utility vehicle that was heavily damaged by fire in the garage of the couple’s Capitol Hill home, sources familiar with the incident said. The cause of her death is uncertain.

Ashley W. Turton, 37, an energy company lobbyist and former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), was found dead shortly before 5 a.m. in a burning BMW, the back end of which was partly out of the garage, as if the vehicle had been entering or leaving when the fire started, authorities said.
