WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced that BMW of North America, LLC has agreed to pay $3 million in civil penalties in response to the agency’s assertion that the automaker failed to comply with requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act that it report safety defects and noncompliances to the federal government in a timely manner.

Toyota fined $16,375,000 by NHTSA (Floor Mats)

On December 20, 2010 NHTSA fined Toyota $16,375,000 for lack of timeliness in issuing floor mat recalls.

NHTSA Fines APC $650,000

On April 22, 2003 NHTSA and American Products Company (APC) entered into a settlement agreement of $650,000 related to APC lamp assemblies’ failure to conform to FMVSS 108, APC’s failure to provide the requisite notifications in regard to these assemblies, and APC’s failure to provide full and accurate responses to NHTSA information requests.
