My windshield cracked with out any obvious impact. my vehicle was stationary

I got into my car (parked in parking garage) and noticed the windshield was cracked. i remember using the defroster that morning and don’t recall seeing a crack. apparently this is a known issue with subaru owners as there is a lawsuit out for defective windshields. there are no points of impact. the crack starts close to the middle and spreads upward, not horizontal.

A cracked windshield that is expanding with no known cause

Driving on highway on a cool, occasionally drizzly evening, noticed a short vertical crack at base of windshield midway between driver and passenger side. defroster was used a few times to keep windshield clear. there had been no impact. a few days later it had grown several inches and made a hard left turn. a week later while parked in the sun, the crack spread all across driver side and also added a new vertical crack a few inches tall that then turned and spread toward the passenger side.

Windshield cracked from normal road debris. this is the second crack in as many months (not due to negative driving habits). the windshield is unable to protect the vehicle from road debris as it cracks from minimal debris impact and becomes unstable.

Windshield has cracked twice. first time we had it replaced on 12/17/2019 probably due to a rock. 6359 miles on vehicle. second time it cracked on sept. 8, 2020. it was in a warm garage and pulled out on a cool morning. driven a mile on neighborhood streets. crack due to cooler temperatures or unknown. 8,700 miles at time. this car is not driven much. can not afford to replace second time at $1400.

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, my windshield developed a small crack. started in the lower left drivers side and quickly spread to the impair my visibility. i took it to the dealer in yakima wa, and the inspector said it was a rock. which i know it wasn't as i would've noticed such an event, there was not an impact which i've witness plenty of, and am very protective of my vehicles. they said they wouldn't cover it. i had to take it to safelight repairs in yakima washington to have it replaced which took two months to get the new windshield in as they was a shortage which was explained to me. the windshield was replaced on 03may2019. i have the receipt for this replacement and still own the vehicle.

Windshield cracked when vehicle was 6 weeks old

Driving on the freeway and heard a pop sound. then noticed a chip from the windshield. i've had windshields get cracks before from a rock impact and leaving a chip then the crack forms. there was no impact and the windshield just started to crack. it was colder outside and we were running the heater and that's it.

While driving i have gotten two windshield dings/cracks that have been repaired . another just appeared out of no where. there has to be something wrong as this is the same amount as in almost 50 years of driving. never had this many problems with a windshield!

Have a 2019 subaru forrester. had 30,000 mile service recently at dealer. since then, multiple electric malfunctions. first abs turned off, then auto start stop started malfunctioning for 2 weeks, took to the dealership, they told me "hood sensor malfunctioning, and bring it back in 4 weeks when part arrives." four days later, i was driving my car and in the middle of traffic, engine shut off completely! whole dashboard lit up with "eyesight disabled" sign, engine light on. unable to move the car at all. after 10 minutes of car stopped in the middle of traffic with engine disabled, finally was able to restart the car, then engine shut down again. took it to dealership and they replaced hood sensor and said "everything is fine." meanwhile multiple electric failure issues, passenger side seatbelt alarm beeps even though seat empty, abs shuts off randomly. please beware 2019 forrester has catastrophic electronic failure that subaru is failing to address properly as a company. this is a major safety hazard! imagine car shutting off in middle of traffic repeatedly. i bought this car new, have kept it well serviced with oil changes. subaru seems to think this is ok. they kept saying "it's just an electrical issue," just an electrical issue that can cause severe injury and accidents! how many accidents will have to occur before subaru will take responsibility for this and fixes this?

Cracks in windshield, one is 7 inches long, others are smaller

The engine has oil leaked on the left side which i reported on dealership service last november 30 2020 and was fixed and repaired at december 8, 2020. i sometimes check and pop up the hood to see the levels of wiper washer, coolant, and other fluids at least twice a month and noticed last week march 4 that there is again oil leaked on the same left side of the engine. i called the dealership to schedule service and the car was brought again yesterday to have it fix. it is only three months or maybe less coz i did not check the engine last 2 weeks of february due to cold snowy weather. my worry is that the warranty will end this november of 2021 and oil leaked on engine will come back all over again and even after the warranty.

This vehicle was sold with a front windshield which i believe has serious engineering issues. i purchased the vehicle 26 months ago. last week my windshield developed a crack, while driving on interstate 5 in washington state, without a noticeable cause. this is the third time this has happened since the vehicle was purchased, with the next most recent occurring in june 2020. on that occasion, something hit my windshield, but it was minuscule, causing a noise akin to a light tick. it certainly did not seem sufficient to cause cracking, but it did. i am quite concerned what might happen if a rock large enough to crack a safer windshield hits my vehicle. any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I was sitting in my car, it was off. the next thing i know, the windshield cracked. no explanation, nothing happened, no cars drove by, the car wasn't on. i had just gotten in a few minutes before to leave my job and was on the phone.

I ran the remote start on my car to defrost it while it was sitting in my driveway this morning. less than 10 minutes later i got in and noticed a small crack growing up the center of the windshield. the crack went vertical roughly 9 inches then curved horizontally about four inches. the car was stationary in my driveway.

The gps system is unsafe. it says "exit right ahead", which would imply that you should exit at the next exit. but it says this when the exit programmed is the 2nd or 3rd exit. my wife tried to exit at the next exit, and then at the last minute, she realized that it was wrong and she swerved bacl onto the highway and almost had an accident. suburu has to reprogram the gps system so that it doesn't say "exit right ahead" when it isn't the correct exit. they should then issue a recall and reprogram suburu owners gps system for free. *tr

There is a dangerous design that you need to be aware of. we had eye drops stored in the subaru console in the nook by the parking brake button. while we were driving, the weight of a purse must have pushed down on the drops causing it to act like lever and pull up on the parking brake button. the brakes activated with the car coming to a very abrupt stop. the vehicle following us (too closely) rear ended us. $15,000 worth of damage to a 2019 subaru. subaru is not the only manufacturer to have the parking break button in the console where it is a convenient spot for eye drops, chap stick, or make-up.

Vehicle was parked overnight at my residence. upon getting in the vehicle i noticed a crack in the windshield while the vehicle was still stationary. the crack was not present the previous day, and the vehicle was secure from any falling objects. the crack originated from the bottom of the windshield near the center, travels vertically up, turns towards the driver (left) side, and turns up. there are no signs of an impact. the windshield appears to have spontaneously cracked from a defect.

Unintended acceleration when slowly pulling into aparking spot. car ran over and dislodged a parking curb. the car ended up resting against a fence. a tow truck had to pull the car backwards to get the car over the curb. the dealer had the car inspected by a third party who found nothing wrong with the car. damage was estimated to be $1000

Window cracking way to easy 2 cracks now with only 6k miles

I had my windshield replaced summer 2020 due to a major crack in the windshield. here we are in the beginning of 2021 and i have another major crack in my windshield that will require a full replacement

The windshield glass of my subaru forester 2019 model is highly prone to cracking. it is just over 10k miles. it has a 12 inch crack out of nowhere. i cannot identify the reason for this crack as i did not hear any rock-hitting sound while i was driving the car. there might be a rock or other small object hitting my windshield. but the sound must be too gentle to notice.

Whistling or whining noise coming from a/c system after having a/c or heat running. this condition is from the expansion valve according to subaru of america. dealer states a new expansion valve for the a/c system is coming but not yet available.

When defrosting my car after a recent snowstorm, i noticed that a crack developed in the windshield just below the passenger side windshield wiper. it appears that a small rock/pebble hitting the windshield caused the crack, but i do not remember hearing a rock hit the windshield. i had not done any highway driving in the days prior to noticing the crack either. attached photos show that there was only a small chip (ie not a big crater) at the impact point, which suggests that whatever hit the windshield may have been small and did so at relatively low velocity. given that cracked windshields are a common issue with newer subaru vehicles, i believe that this crack is the result of poor quality windshield materials and/or poor windshield design. the car is only ~2 years old, and this is the first time i have ever had any sort of chip/crack to a windshield on one of my vehicles.

I was driving down the expressway and stone hit my windshield, causing it to crack.

I have had my 2019 subaru forester for 18 months. i have 15,500 miles and suddenly my windshield cracked from the bottom center to 13" up towards the driver side. i do not see an impact on glass. no apparent noise of rock or debris. it was approximately 44 degrees and raining. i travel the same route to work for the last two months with no apparent signs of construction or loose road material. i have contacted subaru dealer with no call back. i have read several similar complaints of eminent danger of vehicle safety features malfunctioning due to a fracture like this. not to mention my own line of sight that could be impaired.

Hello, windshield cracked again on my 2019 subaru forester. there was a loud clicking sound after i started the engine and a huge horizontal crack appeared on the passenger side of the windshield. please see the pictures attached below. it is a second sudden windshield crack in two years of ownership! this issue is becoming a real frustration due to the poor quality of the glass and unreasonably high cost to replace it and recalibrate the eye-sight. i am aware that the new class-action lawsuit has been filed against subaru covering the new forester sk 2019+ for the sudden windshield cracks. that proves that i am not alone. what are the reasons why the recall was not issued yet? previous windshield replacement was covered by subaru due to a well-known glass defect that traces back to 2015. thank you for your time. best regards, ml

Car stalls sometimes when turning from one street into another street, about one time in twenty.

My forester have windshield cracked without any reason. no stone hitting no chips. just broken while it’s parked. it’s definitely a manufacturing defect.

I noticed a serious safety issue with subaru's lane keep assist safety feature: when driving on a busy highway over an area where the dotted line had been painted over with dark paint (by road workers to cover it up for a new lane to be painted) lane keep assist registered it as a line that still exists and forcefully steered me into the lane on my left. to avoid hitting the car in that lane, i forcefully turned to the wheel in the opposite direction. luckily i am a healthy man who was able to steer myself back into my lane, but it turned my wheel with about three times the force of regular lane assist: i think many people including younger people and the elderly are at an even higher risk levels if they are unable to turn the wheel like i did. it was a much more forceful turn than subaru's regular 'non-urgent' lane keep assist. there were no visual obstructions present that the eyesight camera was picking up: it was registering the old line that had been painted over. this is extremely important because not only is this a safety risk for any type of road work that paints over lines during construction or repainting, but this also poses an immediate danger to life and health to people driving on roads with lines that have been painted over and left in that condition. the computer registered the dark line, meant to visually cover up the old paint, as a white line! i confirmed that this is a systemic issue and not just incidental with me. i found a post on a subaru forum where two people describe the same situation i had. i will link that below. https://www.ascentforums.com/threads/lane-keep-assist-malfunction.9530/ i tried reaching out to subaru but they did not reply. i brought this up to my subaru dealer who only checked for recalls. i need this to get the attention it deserves, people are going to die here. they probably already have.

Saturday, dec 26, around 2:30-3pm i was leaving estes park colorado, driving down a windy mountain road. at this time i was applying my brakes around the corners and , constant on/off from the brake pedal. during one of these braking moments on a corner my car accelerated instead, as i’m applying the brake, for 1-2 seconds. it’s like a lurch forward instead of a brake. then it corrected itself and did not do this again. i also experienced this phenomenon when driving in the snow in 2019. it occurred 3-4 times when i was driving in the snow applying the brake frequently. the car would unexpectedly lurch forward while my foot is on the brake. each time i’ve experienced this i was driving with eco mode on, pressing the brake frequently for a duration of time. it’s as if the car gets confused or is trying to switch gears. this is my first awd vehicle.

Within a year or use my windshield unexpectedly appeared cracked one day in parking position.

The car has 12600ish miles. there are no rock chips, etc. the windshield cracked for no apparent reason. it didn't have any when we parked last night and now there is a 6 inch crack coming from the bottom center. there were no instances of rocks, driving over bumps, etc.the car didn't have a crack when we parked it last night and all of the sudden does today.

While cleaning the inside front windshield, the front windshield cracked. i didn't apply any unusual amount of pressure, just "regular" wiping pressure. it has since "spidered" over the last few weeks.

Driving down a side street i pulled into a parking space behind another vehicle i hit the brakes and instead lurched into the car in front of me. i pushed the vehicle in front of me about 8 feet and finally came to a stop. during this time i repeatedly pressed the brake pedal and had no response. after having the car repaired at the collision center they brought the vehicle to subaru. subaru ran a diagnostic test and said that there was nothing wrong with the car. after i received the vehicle from the collision center the passenger side airbag detector would not go off for my wife who weighs under 100 pounds.—to clarify the sensor indicated that the air bag was off.— i sat in the passenger seat and the light went off. total damage to my car was about $8200 and i’m not certain of the damages to the other vehicle.

Started car on a cold morning, turned on defroster and went inside got back in car started to back out of driveway and noticed a huge crack starting on the passenger side need the bottom of the wiper blade. as i drove the crack got worse now it is halfway across my windshield. the vehicle was parked when the first crack appeared

I have had 2 windshields crack on me driving down the road, the cracks are violent and sudden. i have driven many subarus many miles but the 2019 forester is very sensitive to inherent stress in the glass

My windshield cracked due to cold weather, while stationary in my driveway, without any previous chips or impacts. i called the dealership to ask if a replacement was covered, and was told “not a chance. that just happens to those cars.” upon doing some research, i’ve found other 2019 forrester owners have experienced the same windshield problems, and have experienced the same customer service. a windshield should not spontaneously crack just because it’s cold outside.

Windshield was struck by a small rock while going highway speeds (driver did not see the rock), causing a 2 mm rough chip in the windshield and a 1 cm crack on the outside and another 1 cm crack on the inside of the windshield.

My 2019 forester windshield has cracked from the very top to mid way down. i noticed the crack when going to my car for work in the morning.

Windshield crack really easily less than 3 months after purchase of vehicle. maybe we hit a pot hole too hard on the highway or something because it started at the very edge. oem windshield seem to be very thin cracked easily and crack got bigger over the next few days had to get windshield replaced out of pocket.

Leaving a parking lot getting ready to turn onto a divided 4 lane highway at a traffic light, as the light turned green the care did not go wile i pressed the accelerator down and i did it again and still nothing. before i realized something was wrong the car drifted into the middle of the intersection with no power except the engine was running at idle speed and in gear but still no acceleration so i left the car drift to the other side of the road and the car started to go just before the light changed back. the start-stop was turned off and the engine never stopped the dealer said they could not find anything wrong and they could not do anything, but they would not guarantee the car was safe to drive. this happened 6 or 7 times in about 4 months but this was the most serious.

The vehicle has 16000 miles on it and ive had to 2 windshields crack in 3 months time. the first spread withing 5 minutes. the windshield was replaced by my insurance. the second happened today and my insurance will not pay for. the dealership claims no fault. both caused in the same location lower winshield, caused by minor highway debris. i have owned many cars and never had a wind shield so weak! both times car was in motion. i can provide pic of second incident but the first was at least 14 inches wide after spreading.

While driving and stationary. at least 4 chips in windshield. 1 crack that occurred while vehicle was stationary in an enclosed garage at between 55-65°. insurance filled initial 2 chips, but refused to fill others or repair crack without filing a claim that requires me paying the deductible.

There was a mildly hot day in revere ma in 10/24 almost 80 and got cold at night around 40. next day we get in the vehicle and notice something like a crack in the middle of the windshield but at the moment we thought it was just dirt. in 10/27 we notice that it was a real crack in the middle of the windshield when cleaning the vehicle, right where the defroster blows. crack is definitely not due from road debris, not rock chips around the crack at all.

Love my subaru forester but hate how many rock chips i've gotten in less than 2 years. tomorrow will be my 3rd windshield replacement i get to call into my insurance not to mention just the time it takes to wait for a new one and making time to get it put in. i drive on the freeway less than 15 minutes at a time and maybe once a week and the only thing i think about while driving is trying to stay away from semis, trucks and trailers to try save myself some time and money and not get another rock chip. i've had countless rock chips replaced in less than 2 years along side of the 2 windshield replacements i've had so far. its insane. tonight i got a rock chip almost the size of a quarter with no car around either front or back for at least 5 car lengths! within 10 minutes almost split half way across my windshield. its insane. so now my insurance gets to replace yet another windshield and pay for the eyesight to be recalibrated, again. subaru should really figure this out or at least be willing to replace their glass as this seems to be a very big problem.

While driving on the road a small pebble hit my windshield causing it the create a small crack. i had to get it filled since to replace to windshield would require calibrating the eye sight senors. other normal derbies have hit my car on the roads to and has caused alot of scratching on the windshield. the windshield seems to be very thin or not that strong. when things to do hit the windshield i don't get the same feeling of safety i do in other cars. i get the feeling the windshield wont hold up to anything significant based on how fragile it feels and sounds when things hit it.

When driving in the highway the vehicle starts to jerk very strong and highway speed is lost making it dangerous to drive and potentially causing an accident. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they will do nothing about it. it is a known issue for this vehicle model and subaru is not fixing the issue. the jerking is so violent that it could become a safety hazard for drivers and anyone else on the road. the jerking happens on a daily basis and sometimes it is more strong.

A crack has developed on the lower portion of driver's side windshield. no impact occurred with any object. internet research has revealed that this is a common problem with this make, model and year vehicle according to an article in torque news dated 20 jun 20 by denis flierl.

When driving on a freeway, the gps gives an audio command "exit right ahead", but it is not for the next exit. it is for one or even two exits later. this is very misleading and nearly cause an accident because when we realized that we should not get off at the next exit, we veered back onto the highway. this is a safety issue and suburu should reprogram all the gps systems on this model.

Windshield seemingly cracked spontaneously (no observed impact with projectile like a stone). vehicle was in motion at moderate speed (~45 mph) when crack "popped". no impact from projectile was heard.

I started the car in my driveway, wanted to back in to park, got out of the running car to check something, closed the door behind me and then tried to get back in but the car locked itself. i have my key on me but i can’t do anything to open the car, the key doesn’t work. i tried to open the door manually and that didn’t work either. i’m standing next to my locked, running car. it’s an extreme safety issue. had my baby been in the car, it would be life threatening! this is absurd! this can happen anywhere and it’s scary. this should be a lawsuit. this is a horrible mistake that needs to be fixed stat. i’m extremely frustrated and disappointed with subaru.

The windshield has 3 chips and a 12 inch long crack running down the middle. the vehicle was in motion on a highway for 3 cracks the last chips is from an unknown source.

Something went very wrong in the manufacture of the windshield. within the first 2 months, i notice very small defects (small, pinpoint sized fractures) in the windshield. now, i have a 20 inch crack that grows 1 inch every day.

When driving on an interstate highway a pea sized pebble struck the very top of the windshield, where it adjoins the roof of the vehicle. immediately a 16 inch crack appeared in the windshield. the pebble was so small, a normal windshield should not have cracked. i believe the windshield is defective. it will cost over $1200 to replace.

When driving at a low speed the car lost all power without any warning lights .had to pull over and let car sit for about 10 minutes then restarted car. i was able to drive but it had very low power. car continues to have low power and hesitated to accelerate. car had 38,467 miles at this time. car frequently has a kickback feel when accelerating. when pressing the gas pedal it has a delay response to move. brought it to the dealership 2 times for this problem. there is also a noise coming from the right rear axel of car since car was purchased. dealer continues to say it’s a tire noise and they do not seem to believe the other problems with the car.

Received a small chip in windshield (approx1/16") from a what sounded like a tiny tiny pebble, about a week later left car out all day in the sun. when i approached the car, i noticed my 1/16" chip turned into a 15" crack. i.e one day in the sun turned a 1/16" chip into a 15" crack.

Windshield cracked horizontally overnight and expanded from passenger's to of the windshield to the driver's side. no apparently reason for the crack due to any impact in the way that a normal safe auto glass should have (see pics). many 2019 subaru forester's owners have experienced the same incident.

The windshield seems to be exceedingly weak. in the little over a year of owning the vehicle i have had 2 cracks in my windshield and 3 chips . these have occurred on a heavily trafficked highway that is clear of debris . i have owned older subarus before and have never had a windshield crack or chip.

Today while driving on the highway with no car in front of me, the windshield spontaneously developed a crack without any perceptible impact.

Parked vehicle in garage. two days later, found a 2 foot crack in the windshield. i see no place along the crack where an object might have hit the windshield.

The car was purchased in march 2019, and a few months later the windshield just cracked, without being hit by anything. this kind of windshield has the vision sensors attached. we tried to fix the crack but the fix did not hold, so the crack has extended to at least 15 inches long.

Vehicle completely dead first thing in the morning. no warning. i take 27 mile each way trips several limes a week as well a daily short 3mile each way trips. this same pattern of driving with both a ford escape and a hyundai for more then ten years. this subaru forester has less than 12,000 miles. no lights were left on. there was a sound that i heard last night that i occasionally hear the whurr noise and a klunk as i exited the forester. i also heard a whirring somewhat different sound after filling the gas tank thursday. it sounds like a vacuum pump that i thought was a fuel evaporation recovery system. it was a hot day and i had the a/c running as i drove.

I purchased my vehicle in february 2019 and do not drive very far to work. i do very little driving on the highway. in june 2019, with less than 4000 miles, we were returning home from a trip when we heard the windshield crack. we took it to the dealership and they claim the damage was caused by a rock so we turned the claim into our insurance. then yesterday, we were driving on the highway and heard a tiny rock hit the windshield. today that tiny pit has cracked over half the windshield. i have read that subaru has had many complaints with their windshields for both forester and outbacks and especially for the years 2017-2019. i have owned several vehicles previously and have never had problems like this with needing to replace the windshield with very little to no damage causing the crack. in order for the eyesight to work properly you have to take the vehicle to an approved glass company and then have subaru calibrate the windshield. the cost to replace is over $1200. subaru has had several complaints and knows this is an issue with their windshield and the problem continues. i have read reviews that owners of 2020 models are having similar issues.

Compare to my previous 2016 subaru forester. this 2019 subaru forester is very easy to get chip in the same route of going to work from home. i didn't have any chip or crack on 2016 subaru forester's windshield but i noticed this 2019 forester's windshield has a lot chips on the windshield and complain to dealer in june 2019 and they take a look but said it is not a manufacturer defect and reject to replace it. at that time, my car only has around 2100 miles. recently my car get hip by rock and the windshield is start cracking from the chip. if subaru want to have the selling point for eyesight and use the cheap windshield to save the total cost of car and giving customer more painful experience. i was very upset they did that and losing my trust to them.

I first noticed a small nick in the front windshield on the driver's side back in february 2020. in june of 2020, it turned into a crack that runs 1/2 the length of the windshield. i've attached pictures of the nick and crack.

The gps system is unsafe. it says "exit right ahead", which would imply that you should exit at the next exit. but it says this when the exit programmed is the 2nd or 3rd exit. my wife tried to exit at the next exit, and then at the last minute, she realized that it was wrong and she swerved bacl onto the highway and almost had an accident. suburu has to reprogram the gps system so that it doesn't say "exit right ahead" when it isn't the correct exit. they should then issue a recall and reprogram suburu owners gps system for free.

Windshield is fragile. the window shield had rock chip in the first month i got the car. after 1 year, i got another rock chip that cracked it so bad, a hug line runs across the windshield. i had multiple cars before, this car is probably the most fragile glass i ever experience. *tr

In june 2019, 2 months after i purchased my 2019 subaru forester, a very small rock hit the bottom of my windshield and immediately cracked the windshield 6 inches, which is above the legal rock chip repair length. so i would have to repair the entire windshield. i was on the i-15 freeway diving 80 miles per hour, the legal speed limit. *tr

Before i reached the 20k miles mark, i have already had to replace the windshield. it seems any small bead or rock causes the windshield on this model to shatter very easily. i have owned an older subaru model that i have driven through the same roads without any issue. because of i-sight this windshield is extra expensive to replace and very difficult to repair if it is in the way of the i-sight cameras. $1,600 fix.

I was driving on the highway and next thing i knew there was a huge crack that formed across my windshield. i didn't see or hear anything and then saw the crack spiral. when i looked there was an extremely small chip in the black area of the bottom of the windshield. extremely frustrating and really didn't know how that chip in the bottom corner turned in to a crack at least half as long as the windshield.

Purchased new jan.9,1919.on june 13,2020 car was parked in our driveway, off with windows closed.my wife opened driver's side door to remove an item.when closing the door, the hatch back window shattered spontaneously.we were and are shocked.spoke with our salesmen who rejected our claim for damage.

I have a second cracked windshield on my forester, which i have owned for 19 months, and has just over 23,000 miles on the odometer. in both cases, i noticed the cracks after going out to start the car in the morning. those mornings, i thought about the last time i drove the car, and i couldn't think of a noise i heard, which you would typically associate with a foreign object hitting the windshield. nothing. no matter how faint. the first cracked windshield happened at just over 10,000 miles, and the second happened at 19,500 miles. i am convinced that this is an engineering issue with subaru of america. i voiced this concern to the employees at subaru, but was informed that is was not an engineering problem. additionally, the two cracks started within 4 inched of each other, by my estimate, slightly left of center if looking at it from the front of the car, and near to bottom of the windshield. thank you for your interest in this matter. *tr

The windshield has suddenly developed a large (19") crack in it on the passenger side. we believe something very small kicked up and hit it the upper corner during highway driving on a friday, and there wasn't noticeable damage when it was parked a few minutes later, but the following monday morning, after the car was sitting in the temperature controlled garage all weekend, there was a very large crack. the car had less than 3,000 miles on it and we had it for less than 6 months.

The touch screen system (radio-am/fm and satellite) frequently do not work on the touch screen system. turning off the engine, taking the key out and repeating the starting process of the vechicle does not fix the problem. it occurs about 1 out of 3 times starting and/or driving the vehicle. you never know when this electronic system is going to work or not. suburu needs to recall and fix this issue. it happens when the vehicle is started, stationary, or driving. it may not work for several days, then starts working again.

Extreme sway while driving. while driving on the interstate yesterday going from lindale, texas to dallas, the winds were moderately high. however the vehicle had an extreme sway and was very extremely to safely maintain. *tr

Small crack in windshield starting under passenger wiper blade. no suspected debris impact. car has not been driven due to ongoing pandemic. happened while parked in driveway.

There is a crack/chip in my windshield.

The vehicle had an electric mirror where the back casing was broken. we went to the dealer where we were told it was a cosmetic issue only and they ordered a mirror for us. we left and the vehicle caught on fire while sitting in a driveway turned off. the insurance inspector is saying the fire started in the wiring in the door. the mirror operated 100% without issues, it appears moisture from rain got into the mirror wires which may have caused the fire.

I left my car in the garage perfect and the next day i notice the windshield was cracked. it happened over night and without any explanation.

I have driven my car infrequently if at all for the past few weeks as the country has been sheltering at home - this is probably the least amount of stress any car has ever been put under. the last time i used my car was over a week ago and otherwise it's been sitting in my apartment's small, outdoor parking lot doing nothing at all. weather for the last week has been extremely moderate in the high 60s fahrenheit and no wind at all. then i went out to my car to look for something and instead found a giant crack extending across half my windshield and curving down under the bottom "sealed" edge. this has to be a manufacturer issue as i haven't even used it. even before the current immobility, with a 7 minute suburban commute there really wasn't much going on with a car supposedly built for tough conditions.

I drove to a shopping center and parked. after a couple hours, i returned to my car, and found the windshield was cracked from the top passenger side diagonally across to the center of the windshield. i had the windshield replaced by safelite.

Purchased the vehicle brand new in dc of 2018. since then it has had a series of electrical issues dating back to as early june of 2019. the air conditioner stopped working and i had to take the vehicle in to get serviced. my first red flag. then the battery randomly died while waiting parked in december (temperature that day was above freezing). after that instance, i had several more dead battery issues with the vehicle. fast forward to 2 weeks ago where again my battery died, i got the car jumped and the battery kept dying the next day. recently had a new battery installed by the dealer (tuesday) and again the battery died the next time i went to start the vehicle! the car also has other electrical issues regarding the start/stop feature. i've had instances where the vehicle has completely shut off and i had to manually restart it. the cruise control speed constantly varies. the car doesn't always recognize when i plug in my phone. it seems that any electrical components of the car simply don't work and are not reliable. subaru should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this death trap of a vehicle on the road. i would never recommend a 2019 subaru forrester to anyone looking to purchase a new vehicle. the car has been nothing but an expensive headache since the moment i purchased it. the irony of it all is that i traded in my old 2014 subaru forrstor into the dealership because it had "electrical issues" according to the dealer and i was better off getting a new car. me, being naive trusted their advice and drove off with this 2019 hunk of problems. i hope this message serves to any prospective buyer of any subaru vehicle to do their own homework in regards to what they are purchasing.

Windshield cracked while driving which quickly grew to 22 inches

A unknown small object hit the windshield while i was driving 65 mph on a interstate freeway which caused a large crack. vehicle only has 10,000 miles on it.

The back lift gate will randomly stop opening. this has only been tested when the vehicle is stopped, in park with either engine running or shut off. it will sound 3 short beep/tones but will not function appropriately when the lift gate button is pushed in either the interior control, the key fob control, or the actual button on the lift gate. the only thing that fixes the issue is to disconnect the positive battery cable for a few minutes and reconnect it. this fix is temporary and the lift gate will again have the same issue. when discussing with the subaru dealership they could not duplicate the issue.

In less then 18 months ive had to replace my front windshield 3 times due to cracks that go all the way across the windshield that i’ve gotten while driving on city freeways

In april 2019 less than 6 months after purchasing my 2019 subaru forester i got a rock chip on my way home from work on a 45 mph road. the auto glass repair shop was already closed so i planned to go the next day for repair. i came out the next morning to my windshield cracked halfway across beyond repair even though it was in the garage overnight. i've never had a chip become a crack within a day and never had one halfway across the windshield. i got the windshield replaced but within a few months i got a starburst crack from a rock on the freeway and was able to go straight to the glass repair shop within the hour. the fix only delayed the inevitable and while my car was parked at work one day the windshield split across without warning or any progression. my second new windshield was installed last week and this morning i got a very small rock chip on a 30 mph road. by the time i drove less than 10 minutes home and unloaded the groceries it had started to crack. i was at the glass repair shop within 2 hours right when they opened to have the crack repaired before it could split further. i fear with a repair it is just a matter of time before this one cracks too. if so, that will be three new windshields in less than 18 months with less than 22,000 miles driven. neither i or my insurance should have to pay for such a weak product that does not meet expectations and fails to meet even basic standards of resiliency and quality. the inconvenience of literally having to drop everything to get an immediate repair on any chip because you know it will not even last a few hours without spreading. i've never had to replace a windshield in my life on these very same roads. there is something wrong with this product or it's a way to earn more money on oem replacements since we have no other choice with the eyesight cameras.

While i was driving my windshield cracked without being struck by anything. the vehicle was in motion on a state highway with no other vehicles in my lane. the crack initiated from the middle of the left side of the windshield and was approximately 24 in long, across the drivers field of vision. i filed a claim with my insurance agency to have it replaced and spent $500 out if pocket.

On multiple occasions, the rear lift gate has not opened as commanded by the key fob and/or the dashboard control. there is no electronic override or manual latch. this issue leaves you without access to the rear cargo compartment. on each occasion, the car was stationary and in park.

We purchase a 2019 subaru forester on march 29, 2019. since we purchased the vehicle we have had three separate incidents involving the vehicle's windshield. on april 3, 2019 a stone hit the windshield that required us to submit a claim to our insurance company for repair. in november 2019, we went into the garage and noticed a large crack in the center of the windshield which went from the bottom to top. there was no clear evidence as to how the crack occurred. don't remember another stone hitting the windshield the crack just appeared. we had to replace the windshield and the dealer refused to cover under the vehicle warranty so we had to submit it to our insurance company. this year in january 2020 another stone struck the windshield and we had to submit a claim to our insurance for it to be fixed. having owned several vehicles throughout our lives, we have never had this many problems with a windshield or to have a windshield replaced. we have noticed other individuals on the internet experiencing the same problems we are having with their subaru windshields. are the subaru windshields defective? this needs to be investigated.

The windshield on this vehicle has cracked 3 times in 9 months. any time any sort of small pebble hits the windshield, it cracks. most recent small crack spread for about 12 inches almost instantly. never have had this happen in a vehicle before.

Rock cracked windshield, while moving on freeway, drivers side. 2 days later crack ran about half way across windshield in front of driver. large truck sent rock into windshield, while moving down freeway.

My car windshield has a crack on the passenger side near the wipers. it was stationary and then i noticed a crack one morning. i usually park my car in my garage.

2 issues 1. the windshield cracked and the car is less than a year old. 2. the engine pulses as if stuck between gears when doing 75+mph, especially when going uphill. there are fluctuations in acceleration that make it feel like it is about to stall.

I was driving at 55 mph on 5/9/2019 and windshield hit by small invisible rock chip and windshield got cracks from lower to middle and started spreading all over

I drove to work in the morning and parked in the parking garage. windshield was totally fine. when i walked back in the evening, i saw immediately there was a huge crack in the bottom half of the windshield with no other apparent damage. my car was stationary the entire time and it's clear there was no external event that caused the crack.

Approximately one month after purchasing a brand new subaru forrester 2019 touring vehicle directly from subaru, the windshield suffered a crack. on february 24, 2019, i was driving the vehicle on a highway in california when a small rock hit the windshield and created a small dent which then splintered into a crack that spread further and further throughout the windshield. my insurance company determined that windshield needed to be replaced. i used a local company to replace the windshield with a brand new windshield from subaru and then i had subaru recalibrate the eyesight camera. my insurance deductible limited the total cost for this repair and recalibration. approximately one year later, on february 16, 2020, once again, while driving on a highway in california, small rocks hit the windshield and created two small dents (each smaller in size than a quarter). fortunately, these dents did not splinter into cracks but they both needed to be filled. the cost was covered for this out of pocket. i am not certain but my best assessment is that subaru's windshield for the 2019 forrester may be defective. in neither case was i speeding, nor were the rocks that hit the windshield large. the attached document includes the cost of windshield replacement, eyesight recalibration, and dent fillings.

The windshield cracked on the passenger side for no reason. we found it in the morning when we went to go to the store.

Windshield is defective and easily damaged. first damaged occurred on november 24, 2019 with 4501 miles driven. a small pebble struck the windshield resulting in a small star burst crack while the car was in motion. second damaged occurred on march 15, 2020 with 8,651 miles driven. a stress crack from the passenger side windshield originating right below the wiper blade defrosting heating element. the crack was not caused by any impact. later it was noticed after the car was driven and parked in the driveway. reviewed many other subaru customer complaints about the same stress crack originating from below the passenger side wiper heating elements. i strongly believe the 2019 subaru forester should be recalled for either having a structural design fault that causes stress cracks to form at the bottom of the glass or the glass is very brittle from minor strikes or flexing.

Windshield constantly gets chips in it from anything. after a 2000 mile road trip the windshield has hundreds of tiny chips in it.

Spontaneous crack in windshield 2 months after purchasing

Monday october 21st i was driving 65 miles per hour on us 23 when i heard a nick on the windshield. about five minutes later i noticed a crack going from the top of the windshield to the middle. i had the windshield replaced insurance covered it but i had to pay $200 deductible. i have heard of many subaru forester windshields breaking in this manner.

Drove on the highway and noticed a crack formed on the windshield. this is the second time it happened. last year the same thing happened on i-45, dealer tried to fix it and ended up making it worse so they offered a free replacement.

My windshield has developed a crack that is 18" long. it appeared out of nowhere . i have read online that many other subaru owners are having the same issue. the vehicle was stationary in the driveway when it happened. dangerous situation for drivers.

My 2019 subaru forester has had its windshield glass replaced once and today is the second time its damaged while driving on the highway and cracked within a period of 9 months. it was a small chip while driving on highway and later while not in motion the crack kept expanding. i specifically requested to have original parts but the overall build quality seems very poor to have this happen so frequently.

After driving the new 2019 subaru forester for only a couple of months, i noticed lots of chips and fine scratches on the front windshield. and now, after driving it for less than 8 months, a 12'' crack appears on the windshield with the car fully covered in the garage. i contacted the local subaru dealer and they told me i need to pay about $1200 to replace the windshield. i know there are multiple lawsuits on this issue and subaru owners are having this as a common issue. this is definitely a manufacturing defect.

Had the vehicle about 3 months and windshield developed crack in upper left corner of windshield. vehicle was being driven on interstate but do not recall being hit with rock or debris.

Front windshield pitted before we had 500 miles on it

Tpms tire pressures do not appear on instrument panel. the pressures are in the computer, but never appear on the screen. the driver does not know whether tpms indicates a fuel economy issue, or an emergency. the "low tire pressure" display shows a large box on the display. that should have a number at each corner indicating the tire pressure, in green for ok, yellow for slightly low, and red for emergency. this would help the driver evaluate a tire problem and decide how to deal with it safely. tpms has lit up when i'm in the left lane in heavy traffic. do i have to get to the shoulder asap, or can i fill the tires when i get home? with the current system, i don't know. this could be fixed with a software update, no hardware changes needed.

Windshield was struck by a rock in the black area at the top of the windshield. the ding is tiny with no spiderweb cracks radiating from it. a couple weeks later, a large crack started from the ding and wend down and across the windshield.

We have a 2019 subaru forester, problems have been with the eyesight slamming on the brakes for no reason, and turning on and off at random times. the major issue has been the slammed on brakes when the road ahead was clear, jarring me and passengers, my wife literally had whiplash and a headache from the extreme, unexpected braking. this has happened when a vehicle in from of us made a right turn, road ahead is clear, traveling the speed limit of 35 mph, sensors must be picking up the corner of the other vehicle as we approach, locking up the brakes, thinking it is still in front of us. another incident, eyesight sensing an empty paper bag being blown across the highway, slamming on the brakes, this could have caused a rear end collision from a driver behind us if they were following to close, like is the norm in rush hour traffic. another event, a dog ran across the freeway, eyesight never activated, i thought i had braked and cleared the dog, he kept running, no impact, found damage to front end upon inspection. another issue unrelated to eyesight, the defroster blower motor does not respond to high setting when first turned to high to clear window fog, it takes 3 to 5 minutes before it ramps up to high speed. i have brought this to the attention of our salesperson and service department our subaru dealership, maybe be a calibration issue, program issue with the eyesight sensors, they refused to document anything i shared and told me their is absolutely nothing wrong with the system without even looking at it. there is no more love in our subaru, and no concern for safety at the dealership. i have spoken with other 2019 subaru forester owners experiencing the same eyesight issues. this has been happening since we leased the vehicle october 2018 to recently on 2/20/2020. i was informed to file this by the ohio attorney general while filing a complaint with them.

Small divot in the lower left side corner of the front windshield expanded to 13 inch crack while the vehicle was stationary.

Windshield unexpectedly and without damage or contact in the middle of the windshield from the top middle to center of windshield and proceeded to crack horizontally to the passenger side of the vehicle. vehicle was parked and crack initiated overnight.

I purchased my 2019 subaru forester on 02/04/2019. since that time, this is the second time i'm having to replace the windshield for what seems to be no apparent reason; meaning i didn't hear rocks striking the my windshield as is typical. i've owned approximately 8 vehicles prior to this and i don't recall having to replace a windshield more than one time. on both occasions, i've gone out to my vehicle to discover the cracks, not knowing how it happened. i purchased additional appearence & windshield protection for the interior of the car, ( carpets, interior fabric and the leather seats) not intending the windshield would be the thing to require the most repairs so far. at the rate of so far, two repairs per year, i'll have to tap into my auto insurance policy to complete the windshield repairs which defeats the purpose for purchasing the extra protection from subaru. the first repair was done two months after purchase on 04/23/19. the second repair is pending, i have an appointment for second windshield replacement on tuesday, 02/25/20.

Windshield cracked for no reason.

The front windshield seemed to spontaneously crack while the car was in motion on an interstate highway. the crack began in the lower middle part of the windshield and spread upward about ten inches. i advised my subaru dealer of the issued, and they referred me to safelite auto glass, where i replaced the windshield at my own expense.

Sat feb 22 forester driven to gym and returned home at 2:20pm. parked in assigned spot #32 in underground secured parking. there was not a crack, divot oror any other problem with the windshield. the forester remained locked and parked until mon feb 24, 2020 at 6:30am. it was then i noticed a crack near the center, bottom. it is shaped like a "7" and is about 10" long from end to end. there is no object, mark, dust or debris to indicate anything hit the windshield. see photos

Front windshield on our 2019 subaru forester limited cracked in 2 separate events within one month of ownership. the first event (front windshield crack) occurred on the initial drive home from the dealership. the vehicle was in motion on the highway (normal driving conditions) when the crack occurred spontaneously for no apparent reason. the crack began from the passenger's side edge of the windshield and stretched toward the center of the windshield. photo attached. the second event (front windshield crack) occurred approximately 3 weeks later before the windshield was repaired. the vehicle was in motion on the highway (normal driving conditions) when the crack occurred spontaneously for no apparent reason. the crack began from the top of the windshield (middle) and stretched toward the center of the windshield. photo attached. after the second event the front windshield was replaced. invoice receipt attached. in my opinion, the front windshield grass on this vehicle was defective and the windshield's on this particular make/model should be further researched. something is clearly wrong and i'm sure others are experiencing similar issues.

We had just purchased our new 2019 subaru forester in late march/early april 2019. in september 2019, we took a trip to spicer reservoir in california from the sf bay area in california. on our way back down the mountain, there were no cars in front of us. the weather was clear, and there was no wind. we we’re descending down the mountain roads. suddenly, the windshield made a loud pop sound, and crack started emerging from the windshield wiper area. there was no rock or impact that started the crack. again, there were no cars in front of us that could have flung debris at us. we thought maybe it was caused by a pressure changed? we had no explanation for the crack. the crack continued to create a large, ~2 foot long, question mark-shaped crack into the center of the windshield. we inspected the crack and there is no impact mark at all, and it looks like the crack began below the bottom seal of the windshield. replacement windshields were quoted in the thousands of dollars and we can’t afford that. reading other forum posts about this incident made it clear that this incident was not isolated to just our car.

Windshield cracked

My vehicle was sitting in the garage and my wife had just returned from work. after putting the car in park, she heard what she thought was a low screech. when she looked up, a line was forming in the windshield from the steering wheel to about 10 inches across towards the passenger side. we have had 4 more instances where we have gotten into the car and another crack in the windshield is there. we currently have 5 lines of cracks in the windshield from no contact.

My 2019 subaru forester experienced a tiny rock chip on the lower passenger side of windshield from debris that was initially hardily noticeable until i reached highway speed and the windshield chip began to grow and crack to over 12" across the lower left portion of the windshield.

My 2019 subaru forester developed multiple chips on windshield in just 7 months (4500 miles). dealer told me that it was due to bad roads/salt on the road. but i am driving my other vehicle (toyota) on the same roads for past 5 years, and not a single chip/crack on it! the problem is definitely poor quality of windshield on 2019 subaru forester.

When i bought the vehicle from st. cloud subaru in minnesota, i was told that there was a chip in the windscreen. when i picked it up on 1/3/20, i visually confirmed that there was indeed a chip the size of penny in the windscreen.

Windshield cracked near the rear-view mirror that about as long as 2 dollar bills. had to pay $1,497 w/ tax for replacement and re-calibration of eyesight system. they determined it was non-factory defect after finding the smallest chip where the crack changed directions. didn't spiderweb cracked, just 2 lines.

Two crakcs on my 2019 subaru forester windshield. don't remember how it happened just saw it all of a sudden, impair version and safety. dealer recommended to replace the windshield and have the eye sight system readjusted.

Was merging to highway at about 35 mph, when suddenly heard something hitting windshield. saw tiny dot on windshield and the making of the line on it that it cracked. vehicle had under 6000 miles. believe that windshield is defective. went to dealer to have it replaced. no compensation from subaru.

Windshield cracked half way across

Base model subaru forester 2019, driver experienced unintended acceleration when starting to drive following a green light in an interception. driver had to use an evasive maneuver (veer to the left) to avoid hitting a vehicle in the front of it. the vehicle continued to accelerate without driver engaging the gas paddle. vehicle continued to unintentionally accelerate, and driver had to use the break paddle to control the speed. the unintended acceleration lasted for about 20 seconds. after breaking to a zero speed at a red light the unintended acceleration returned for about two minutes especially following breaking. unintended/sudden acceleration started after 5 minutes of driving at 7:15am, outside temp of 36f, hvac on, while driving a flat road. total trip time: about 15 minutes. about six months prior to this unintended acceleration event, the same driver experienced the same situation with that same vehicle. the driver brought the vehicle to the dealership the same day and reported to subaru about the unintended acceleration. the service team at the dealership informed the vehicle owner that the problem could not be replicated and thus there is no problem with the vehicle. there should be a log entry in subaru database about this service visit.

The windshield had a long crack that ran from the center of the windshield to the driver's side. there was no reason for the crack.

Infortainment touch screen become unresponsive time to time, causing unnecessary distraction to operate radio, navigation.

On the morning of sunday, january 12, 2020, i went to get into my parked 2019 subaru forester and noticed a horizontal crack in the windshield. the crack is roughly 17 inches long on the driver's side. i drove the vehicle on the freeway the day before, but did not notice anything hit the windshield and the vehicle had been parked in the garage overnight. the crack appears to have come about without cause and inhibits the driver's ability to clearly see the road.

I was driving last summer in new jersey on a two-way road. i heard a slight crack sound. the windshield began to form a crack from the lower-left corner of my windshield and slowly spread toward the center. there were no cars near me so i knew another car could not have kicked up a stone. i parked and left the car for around one hour. when i returned, the crack had spread further across the windshield.

I was parking at a busy ski center, car in drive as i was slowly pulling into an open space, car in first row of vehicles facing a small road. the road connects the parking lot with the ski shop . 5 mph would be normal speed on this road, where pedestrian skiers walk from the lot to the ski shop. before i could stop to turn off the car, the engine started revving crazily, the car lurched forward and accelerated on its own. brakes would not respond. i was able to steer onto the road, car accelerating faster and faster, no brakes, no control. there was a small car driving slowly some distance ahead, and i was gaining on it fast, a split second away from crushing it, so i deliberately swerved into a snowbank, hit some trees, and that finally stopped my car. i was unhurt. extensive front end damage and passenger door damage front and back, and roof rack damage. police came to the scene, car was towed by flatbed back to the dealer. insurance paid for the repairs. manufacturer will examine the vehicle thoroughly, will remove the "black box" to find what was the cause of unintended acceleration and loss of brakes. this examination may take 4-6 weeks. so fortunate that no one was injured or killed. i cannot estimate what speed the car reached on its own.

I went outside in the morning and my subaru had a huge crack across the windshield. i have no idea what happened to cause the crack. the car was parked in the driveway right up in front of the garage. the crack radiated out across the entire windshield and rendered the eye-sight unable to work. insurance state farm claim number is 19-b151-3t0

I leased this car late march 2019 and from day one i smelled a gasoline like odor when turning on the car for the first 5 to 10 min. i've had bmw forn10 years and subaru is new to me. i thought the smell was normal because it's a 4wd. at my last vehicle service at subaru i mentioned the smell to them. they ultimately discovered that the car has a faulty exhaust. they said the smell came from a plastic bag that they found inside the hood of the car. however, my brother in law had opened the hood 2 weeks prior to check the oil level of car bc of a sound it was making and there was no plastic bag at that time. i am going to have the exhaust replaced this saturday but i wanted to report this just in case there are more cars that have the same problems.

Bought the car on feb-2019. parked the vehicle on the street 12/27/2019 night, next day morning the vehicle windowshield get 8 inches crack. check around the vehicle, did not find anything on the vehicle & no scratch on the car body. fixed it same day, 4 weeks later, the crack get another 7 inches longer. complained it to the dealer & get told: i am not the only one had the issue, it is not covered by warranty, insurence should cover it.

One month after purchasing a brand new forester off of the car lot, out of no where while driving the vehicle on an empty highway, a 4 inch hairline crack appeared on the driver’s side of the windshield. the crack originated from the outer edge of the glass. when contacting my dealership i was informed that the $1,000 repair will not be covered under any warranty or insurance, even though there were only 800 miles on the car at the time of the incident.

Both rear seat belts will not retract on there own, do not believe that they meet the 49 cfr 571.209 standard for retraction force and are much weaker then loaner subaru outback.

The windshield cracked for no reason. there was no collision and there are no marks of any rocks hitting the windshield. seems to be a manufacturing defect.

I’ve owned my car for just over a year and my 3rd windshield has just cracked. my first windshield cracked when a small rock hit the top corner of the driver side window and within 5 minutes it spread to the center of the windshield. it had to be replaced and recalibrated, which i had to pay a $250 deductible. my second windshield experienced a cracked a few months after being replaced and nothing hit it that i’m aware of. the crack started at the bottom center of the windshield, just under the windshield wipers and by the middle of the day it spread to the center of the windshield. it too had to be replaced and recalibrated for another $250. safelight assured me that this 2nd windshield would be stronger than the first. today, when i got in my car after work, i found another crack in the bottom center of the windshield and it wasn’t there this morning and nothing hit it. it’s about 6” in length and will probably spread tonight. then to top that off, on my drive home, driving 35 mph, a small rock was kicked up from the car in front of me and has now put a crack in the center of the passenger side of the windshield. i’ve never in my life experienced such a poorly constructed windshield that cracks so easily. i’m fed up with this

Traveling from ri to western ny. departed ri in am with moderate rainfall when "eyesight disabled" indicator flashed several times over the course of half hour. when rain subsided, indicator disappeared. several hours later, was driving 65-70mph on straight section of major interstate with good visibility, approaching a highway overpass when "obstacle detected" warning appeared despite no obstacle in road, and shortly thereafter car went into a slow spin (felt as if floating) towards left, striking a guardrail underneath the overpass head-on and continuing to spin 360 degrees at which point i was able to recover control of the car. it felt as if brakes had engaged (? crash imminent braking system) although i did not have foot on brake pedal and i did not attempt to brake while in the spin as i feared rolling the vehicle. despite extensive front end damage, airbags did not deploy. had to leave the vehicle in albany, ny and currently awaiting evaluation by insurance adjuster. of note, 5 months earlier the windshield had cracked when hit with small rock and was replaced at subaru dealership where the vehicle was purchased.

The windshield on my vehicle cracked overnight while sitting parked in my garage. the crack begins exactly at the top dead center of the windshield and extends straight downward and is approximately 16" long at this point. there are no rock chips or damage that clearly lead tho this fracture. the vehicle is only 1 year old with just over 10k miles on it. i notified my local dealer and they stated that this would not be covered under warranty. i have also contacted subaru of america regarding the issue and am awaiting a response.

Frequently the rear tail gate will not open. sometimes i can continue to depress the button and it will release and then i can manually lift it. then i press the close button and it will close.

The car occasionally acts like it going to stall , primarily when turning left at traffic signals. the accelerator has to be pushed hard to overcome the approximately 1- 1.5 second delay before the car starts to accelerate. this has caused near collisions on several occasions. the engine stop button was activated to prevent engine stopping at car idle.

I went to my stationary vehicle in a.m.and noticed the windshield had a long crack with no apparent reason. no nicks or other damage noted that could cause this to happen. i didn't even make the first payment on the vehicle before this occurred. after calling numerous aftermarket windshield companies the only windshield you can get is the oem if you want the eyesight cameras to work and you must have the eyesight camera recalibrate by the dealership. after reading all these windshield complaints i wonder how many similar windshield issues have occurred that have not been reported on nhtsa? just google 2019 subaru forester defective windshield. this issue is to wide spread.

I bought a 2019 forrester subaru and experienced a crack on the front windshield for no apparent reason. i noticed the crack as i was driving it home the day i bought it. i have read that many other 2019 subaru forester owners experienced cracks on their windshields for no apparent reason. subaru forester uses special glass to ensure the cameras inside the vehicle work so perhaps the glass is defective. subaru has had issues with their windshield in the past with older models.

Parked my vehicle in my driveway with no overhead cover after i returned home from work at approximately 1430 hours on 2/7/20. the ambient temperature at this time was approximately 25 degrees fahrenheit. the vehicles windshield did not have a crack at this time. nothing hit my windshield on my way home from work. i started my vehicle with my remote start leaving my residence at approximately 1800 hours on the same date. as i sat in the operators seat of my vehicle approximately 1 minute after i initiated the remote start, i observed a large crack in my windshield. the crack starts below my windshield wiper under the plastic piece where the edge of the windshield glass is covered. upon closer inspection from outside of the vehicle i discovered zero evidence to support an object had struck my vehicles windshield. the crack appears to have spontaneously occurred. i performed some research online and discovered spontaneous windshield cracks on my particular vehicle is a known issue due to subpar defective glass and that cracks are caused by the heat from the windshield wiper heater used in combination with the windshield defroster. which is the exact circumstance my windshield cracked in. research also advised that this a known issue that has not been addressed by subaru nor do they cover repair/replacement costs. windshield repair/replacement is very expensive because of the special oem subaru glass that is required in order for the subaru eyesight sensors to function properly which my vehicle is equipped with. subaru also refuses to cover the costly recalibration of the subaru eyesight sensors which is required when the windshield is replaced. recalibration alone costs approximately $1000-$2000 usd in addition to the cost of the windshield and windshield installation. i should not have to pay thousands of dollars for a manufacturing defect that subaru appears to ignore

The vehicle was stationary. i pressed the power rear gate open button on the driver side dash, but the rear gate didn’t open, and the car just beeped three times. the beeps would happen every time i tried to press the gate button on the car or on the faub. i opened the access panel and manually opened the door, extending the door to full height. when i pressed the buttons on the car, the power gate would go down but would slam shut and the car would issue a long beep. when i pressed the button either on the car or the faub to reopen the rear gate, it wouldn’t budge and the three beeps happened again. i then pressed the buttons on the car and held them passed the three beeps until the gate unlocked and i was able to lift it open. the gate closed again when i pressed the lock/gate close buttons, slamming shut as before with the long beep. no matter what i tried, i couldn’t get the gate to open on its own ( with power). when i turned the car on, there was no indication that the rear gate was open, but when i put the car in drive and started to drive, the car continuously beeped until i stopped driving and put it in park. i turned it off and let it sit overnight. the next day, i tried to open the hatch as mentioned above and it still did not open, though i could manually open it if i held the buttons down beyond the three beeps. when i tried to turn the car on, though, it would not start. after i tried to start the car with the push button start, all the icons began flashing and clicking on the dash and control panels and the eyesight function was off and the car said to check vehicle function, all while flashing and clicking. when i pressed he button start again it all stopped. the parking pedal seemed very stiff and was difficult to press at all. the car would not start through starlink either, so now it sits in my parking lot until i tow it to a dealer tomorrow.

Bought a brand new 2019 forester in sept 2019. its windshield cracked twice from a minor rock impact during highway driving at about 65 mph. in my previous 25 year of owning and driving other cars i have never had a windshield crack and having windshield crack twice in such short period (5 months of ownership) cannot be a coincidence, there has to be a flaw with subaru's windshield design or quality. judging from the results of a google search, other owners have reported the same thing

I took my forester 2019 up to big bear mountain. my vehicle was parked outside of the cabin. in the morning due to cold weather the windshield had ice and snow, when i turned on the heater in defrost mode a big cracked appeared on the windshield.

On october 15, 2019 my husband, i and our grandson were driving on a town street and the rear passenger window glass on the right side broke and shattered and glass flew all over the car. there was a landscaper on a lawn facing away from the road but no rock or anything came at the window. on december 11, 2019 a truck drove by our car parked in front of our house on a side street and this time the rear passenger window on the left side broke and the glass shattered all over the car. both of these incidents seemed to happen from the force of the air/wind pressure. we believe that there is a defect in these windows as they should not shatter out of nowhere like this. we contacted donaldsons subaru in sayville, ny and were told the repairs are not covered under the warranty. we explained that nothing caused these windows to shatter, so we should not be held responsible. we also called the subaru corporate office and were told it is 'environmental' so they are not responsible. we have noticed online that many other people with subaru vehicles also complained of this same thing happening. this is dangerous especially as we drive with our grandson in the back seat. we believe that this is a safety issue that subaru should address and be held responsible for. we had the first window repaired on january 20, 2019 at the cost to us of $550 dollars. on february 4, 2019 we are having the second window repaired at the same cost. even if nothing can be done at this point in regard to this we want it on record in case it happens again or if it happens to others and a pattern is noted.

Often, but not always, mostly when turning left from a stop as at a traffic light the car will hesitate and lose power and speed. then i try to accelerate and the car surges forward too fast. i feel that i am going to stall in the intersection.

The windshield developed a foot-long, snaking crack on the passenger side bottom spontaneously one night while parked in a covered carport. no inclement weather that night, and nothing else that could have caused the damage.

First windshield replacement occurred 3 months after purchase due to a small rock chip, now 8"-long crack has spontaneously appeared with no known cause 9 months later.

I was parked on a public street for 15” and found 6 inch crack in my windshield. i was not parked under any trees and the weather was clear. the crack started under the driver side windshield wiper.

Windshield suddenly cracked. no visible area that would indicate it was the result of a rock and the crack forming from the initial impact. uncertain of cause. crack is roughly 14-16 inches from the top of the passenger side down to just under the rear-view mirror in a hook like fashion. crack was initially discovered on a stationary vehicle, parked in a restaurant parking lot. the crack was not observed prior to getting into the vehicle.

While driving and vehicle in motion, intermittently the following indicator/warning lights come on, stay on, go off, and come back on again without any pattern: the bsd/rcta warning, the auto start stop, hill descent control, accident avoidance/braking, lane assist, and eyesight. one or more warning/indicator light comes on and then sometimes goes off every time i drive. started on january 18th-still happening feb 1, 2020.. happens regardless of road condition (dry, wet), temperature (very cold, warm (40 degrees), or speed (25 mph to 60 mph). this has happened on highway, city, rural roads. the driver touches nothing and does nothing to begin/end these. sometimes the lights stay on and then when trip is ended, vehicle turned off and restarted, the lights remain on. sometimes next time the vehicle is started, the lights are off. the lane assist indicator and auto braking in particular, are of concern. the lane assist comes on (on its own) and is white—then, while driving, it turns green and tries to steer the car off to the right —the driver has to hold on tight and fight the steering wheel and car. this seems very unsafe. the driver has tried turning off these lights/functions when they just pop up—while driving—but if in heavy traffic, cannot allow for these distractions. if clear/no traffic, driver attempts shutting off these features by pressing the buttons with these icons —on the center rear view mirror panel or on the lower left panel below dashboard. sometimes this works, sometimes doesn’t and they remain on. the unexpected nature of warning lights going on and off and difficulty controlling the steering wheel are really causing concern. it is like the car is possessed. this is a new vehicle (5 months). dealer contacted for service but told had to wait 3 weeks for appointment. trying not to get in an accident until then...

The rear door on the forrester sport does not open. it first happened after going through a car wash, the door does not open even if the car is unlocked. neither by fob or door button. i have been unable to recreate problem however it happened again after a light rain. door would not open. there have been similar claims online for the same year and model. only fix i have is holding the door button until it switches from automatic to manual and it seems to reset it. however this only worked once out of the 2 times it has happened in the last month.

Windshield cracked during day while sitting in parking lot at my office. no h/o injury or rock hitting windshield.

Got in my car, and noticed a giant crack going up from bottom of driver's side windshield to middle. once looking there is a small chip at base of windshield

When parking the vehicle the steering wheel locking mechanism engages in a way that after leaving and coming back to vehicle is impossible to release to start the car back up again. my wife has been stranded several times where i had to come and assist in releasing the steering wheel by adding the force and weight of my body to pull the steering wheel to one side or the other to release it and be able to start the car up. the dealer(800 455 0701) promised to contact subaru and get a response on how to deal with the issue. no response. the dealer service manager noted that they have hundreds of calls per year on this issue. the potential of getting stuck in a unsafe area ( emergency need to travel, stuck on the highway, snow storm requires temporary stop, late evening parking area, remote county park or state park or federal park) are all possible and could be dangerous. this is an obvious defect that needs to be corrected.

A small chip in the windshield towards the center. this has probably not happened during driving and the chip was confirmed during the firsts ervice.

My windshield randomly cracked. one morning i woke up and went out to my car and it had a large crack after being parked outside of my apartment all night.

1. while the car is in motion (and under normal driving conditions) on highways, my front windshield has cracked 4x since taking delivery of new vehicle at the end of july 2019. once the front windshield cracks, it continues to spread. during the process of paying for the vehicle, i was encouraged at every step to purchasing additional windshield coverage to cover the cost of replacing the front windshield in case it needed to be replaced due to the eyesight camera system. the windshield has cracked on the interstate, a state tollway, and a highway. 2. the blue temperature light turns on for five minutes or more when starting the vehicle. i have brought this to the attention of the dealership and they dismiss me saying that this is a normal condition of the car (which was not mentioned during the sales process) and to just wait until the blue temperature light goes out before driving the car. when taking the car back to the dealership for the replacement of the front windshield for 4th time, they finally listened to me and added checking the coolant to the list but it has been a fight to have this looked at. 3. while the car was in motion and with no other cars in front of me, to the side or behind me, the car pre-collision system activated and braked the car on its own. there was no pre-warning that the car was going to brake. 4. the car auto light on and off function does not fully turn on the car lights at night. 5. while the car is in motion and backing out of a parking space, i hear a big ka-thunk sound from the front left of the car. it doesn't matter which way the steering is being turned. ordered the car in june 2019, was told that the car wouldn't be ready until mid-aug. due to the factory shutting down for a two week holiday in japan, received notice from the dealership that the car had been delivered much earlier than expected in july.

One morning i went out to start my car and noticed to large parallel cracks vertical cracks about a foot apart in the windshield on the driver's side. one crack run starts at the top of the windshield and runs about 12 inches. the other crack starts at the bottom and runs about 18 inches. the cracks can be felt to the touch from the outside of the windshield. to the best of my knowledge, there have been no incidents while driving the car that would lead to the cracks spontaneously appearing. shortly after finding the cracks in the windshield, small horizontal cracks began developing in the passenger side front window. my subaru dealership acknowledged that odd behavior and appearance of the cracks and was not sure what could cause such behavior, but would not claim that there was a manufacturer's defect. a quick google search revealed that many other subaru forester owners have experienced similar cracking in the windshield.

As i was driving in the right hand lane on the florida turnpike at 75 mph, my driver side rear door window spontaneously shattered. the entire window disintegrated with most of the glass flying into the car. temperature was only about 75 degrees. nothing impacted the window - it just exploded.

Over 8,200 miles of driving my 2019 forester, my windshield has experienced three stone chips, one requiring the complete replacement of my windshield. one chip (and one day later, a cracked windshield) was while sitting stationary on a highway; a second while driving 35 mph on a local city road; and the third while driving about 55 mph on a highway. compare this to one stone chip while in motion, on my 2009 forester, covering over 80,000 miles and ten years of driving.

Cracked windshield that i had a fix done but crack seems to be getting worse.

My wife and i were returning to our parked vehicle and and there was an approximate 18 inch crack appearing on the lower drivers side portion of the windshield. no crack or any sign of damage was visible before that. the vehicle had been stationary in a parking lot.

On 10/23/19, i noticed a crack in the windshield of my 2019 subaru forester. i had not seen or heard anything hit the windshield prior to seeing the crack. i took the subaru forester to the dealership from where i bought it and was informed that windshield replacement was not covered by my warranty. i then paid safelite $772.10 on 10/25/19 to replace the windshield.

Noticed a half inch crack on far passenger side of windshield. no idea how it happened. no memory of a stone hitting the car. repaired at safelite. told likely will need replacement due to location of crack (close to frame) told to monitor. since then multiple chips/nicks to windshield. again, no rocks/stones. just tiny nicks in glass that are sometimes visible and sometimes not. concerned over longevity over windshield. 11 year old car windshield in better shape.

The homelink garage door opener does not function when the ignition is off. this could be a dangerous situation for a woman, driving into her garage, shutting off the engine, then getting out of the car to walk to the front of the garage where the wall button is located. the driver, knowing that the opener is inoperative without the ignition on, can hit the homelink button while the car is still on. however, what if the driver is distracted before shutting the car off by some other factor, like the phone ringing or a fire truck going by? the driver neglects to turn off the engine and goes into the house, with possible disastrous results. with every other car (and other subaru models as well) the garage door opener is always powered, and you pull into the garage, shut off the engine, then close the garage door. the forester has it ass-backwards.

Automatic rear lift gate will not open (with either key fob or inside auto release). beeps three times and still will not release. (this started on 12/15/19). also, locks appear to have an electrical short (i.e. sometimes they work, sometimes they won't). at times, touching the door handle will not open/lock the doors and unlock must be pressed on fob instead. this has been occurring for past 5-6 months. vehicle is stationary for all issues.

I purchased my 2019 forester new. after 3,500 miles the windshield cracked. i was driving on the interstate and noticed the crack in the middle of the windshield and quickly spreading across the windshield. although the vehicle was in motion, i didn't hear anything actually hit the windshield. i had it replaced with another subaru manufactured windshield just after having the car for 3 months. last week, a small pebble hit the windshield while i was driving on the entrance ramp to i95. the crack spread quickly across the windshield and i now need to replace a second windshield, which is only 4 months old. while insurance has paid for most of the replacement, my deductible was $500 for each windshield. any savings realized for purchasing a fuel efficient vehicle has been erased with these unnecessary repairs.

Was driving on a us hwy when all if a sudden i heard a loud snap. i was passing a semi at the time so thought the sound might have come from the semi throwing rocks. at that time there was no evidence of a chip or crack on the windshield. the next morning the windshield was cracked from the far right side across the driver's line if view.

While driving for the past 8 months i have had 2 chips in my windshield from small unknown objects striking the front windshield. both incidents happened while driving straight and under 45 mph. first incident happened while on the off ramp of an interstate causing a small chip. second incident happened while on a state route and in the passing lane. small unknown object struck windshield causing quarter inch chip.

Front passenger seat shakes on uneven surfaces, whereby appearing unstable and inappropriately secured to foundation of vehicle.

Stopped to get gas and while washing window noticed a 12 inch crack on windshield starting from rearview mirror down. unsure what has caused this crack as we have only owned our 2019 forester for about 6 months.

Our 2019 subaru forester has had numerous windshield cracks and chips and currently has less than 7000 miles on it. the first chip occurred at around 2000 miles and split into a sizable crack within 24 hours. the windshield was replaced for over $1000 at 3330 miles but had received a couple additional chips prior to its replacement. additional chip repairs occurred at at 5125 miles and 6460 miles. all chips/cracks occurred from minor rock strikes that haven't/wouldn't cause issues in other vehicles. all rock strikes occurred on paved roads at speeds between 30 and 55 mph. dealership continues to deny any issue and claims we just have bad luck. having 4 chips and 1 crack on a vehicle with less roughly 6500 miles is tough to believe it is just bad luck however...

Traveling on highway, approximately 60 mph, tapped brakes and anti locks activated, immediately afterwards entire dashboard lit up with every warning light possible on the vehicle. i took the first exit, traveling approximately a quarter of a mile from start of incident, into a parking lot, directly off the highway, when the car shut down. tried multiple times to restart the car- it would catch and then shut off. ended up getting it towed to my home dealer. the cause is unknown. it appeared to be a catastrophic failure of the computer which caused the entire cars systems to shut down. pictures show dash lit up and screen shot of “my subaru” app which indicated only some of the warning lights, although all lights were lit.

2019 forester purchased 4/19, windshield cracked spontaneously on 12/13/19

1. when start the vehicle cold or warm, the engine is loud and high rpm for 60 seconds. vehicle shakes 2. after 60 seconds, the rattle/knocking noise from the engine kicks in and stays on. the noise occurs 90% of the number of times starting the vehicle. 3. huge amount of white smoke from tailpipe when startup the engine. smoke gradually reduce 4. rear tail gate does not open when using button on remote, button on the vehicle and button right on the tailgate.

In under 8 weeks my windshield has had 3 chips and finally it has cracked to the point where i have to have it replaced. after the 2nd chip i realized this was not bad luck but faulty product. i contacted my dealer & the subaru factory with no help. the first 3 chips happened when i was driving the 4th just warming up the car. i understand pebbles hit your windshield when driving but the 4th time it happened the car was stationary

I parked my 2019 subaru touring trim car in my cousin's driveway on friday, nov 29, 2019. there was no damage to the windshield. i visited with him over lunch. i came back out to the car at about 3:00pm and on sitting in my driver's seat and looking out i immediately noticed a large crack in the windshield, starting from the glass edge under the trim, going up about 7 inches and then turning and going over about 7 more inches. i took it to the dealer on monday, december 2nd. they inspected the damage and said they had determined it wasn't something covered by warranty. windshields, properly manufactured and properly installed, don't just crack! integrity of the windshield is part of the crash protection for the vehicle so this is a safety hazard. disgusted, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).? *pm

Well, it looks like i got the same issues as many others with my forester: driving on a local road, got small rock hit right corner of my windshield. nothing happened then, no crack, jus tiny spot from the rock. parked car overnight into the garage and discovered huge crack in the morning, all way from the passenger side to the middle of the glass. i had many other rocks, big and not hit me but i did not have anything like that. for 20 years of driving my windshield was replaced once, just because of chip location (unrepaired zone). this is ridiculous! subaru, take an action on this.

A small pebble hit my windshield on the freeway on the bottom driver side of the windshield, this not only cause a chip, but also a crack over 12 inches long. i have never had a windshield with such a large crack from such a small chip. i suspect the glass is defective.

Primarily driver's seat is not comfortable. back pain starts already after 30 min drive, get legs cramps when you step out of the car. seat configuration does not allow to adjust it for comfortable seating position due to poor design. forester 2019 has the most adjustable seats from all subaru line, but looks like worse configuration overall. all existing adjustments still do not allow to seat comfortably even for a pretty short period of time. if you try to support the bottom part of the back, then upper part is not touching the seat and in case of rear accident injury chances are higher than average. if you adjust to support upper part, then lower part does not have any support and back hurts already after 5-10 min drive.

A rock hit windshield while driving 60mph leaving an unnoticed chip. a few days later, an 18 inch crack in windshield appeared while parked. currently awaiting replacement of windshield through insurance claim department.

Driving up to tahoe in traffic going about 20 mph. about 17 degrees out. cranking the heat inside the car and wiper blades heated. heard a loud crack and windshield split right up the middle above the defroster. no impact point visible. the next morning when we had the heat on headed to the mountain the crack started traveling sideways toward the passenger side. purchased vehicle 12/29/18. first crack 2/22/19. will follow-up with second crack story on 4/16/19, two weeks after replacement.

Did not see an impact point, but a large crack (18") appeared on the windshield. car sat in the garage and the crack grew to about 24". it is in front of the driver side eye sight goes down about half way on the windshield and then turns towards the passenger side. read that multiple people are having this issue. subaru stated no recall, had to go through insurance

On the morning of 11/9/19 i had driven approximately 5 miles from home and was at a stop light. suddenly, while stopped, i heard a crack and saw that my windshield had cracked. there were no other cars in the area. the crack began at the bottom of the center of the windshield just above the end of the driver side wiper blade. the crack spread upwards about 8 inches and then went right another 4 inches. i contacted subaru customer service. they opened a claim and advised me to visit the closet dealership. upon visiting the closest dealership, they suggested that a small rock may have chipped the glass, but there is no chip or starburst where the point of impact may have been. this was completely spontaneous and was not influenced from any rocks/pebbles, etc. because subaru and the dealership disregarded my concern, i had no choice but to contact my insurance company to file a claim as to not risk the chance of being pulled over and issued a ticket. i am very disappointed that this happened and really hope that subaru will take action. my insurance company was very hesitant to approve an oem windshield and i will have to front the cost of the recalibration. this is very disheartening as i love my subaru, but now i’m having second thoughts on how safe it actually is.

Driving around 60 miles down a smooth paved highway a large foot long curved crack formed on the windshield from the base. i did not see or hear gravel hit the window, of it did it must have been very small. there is no conspicuous impact point.

I recently had my tires rotated for the first time and the mechanic reported that only 3 of the 5 lug nuts were torqued to specification. the other two were only "finger tight"

A severely cracked windshield developed overnight while car was stationary in owners driveway. the crack was in the form of a spider web with no evidence of impact of any kind. the area of the cracked windshield was perfectly smooth, with no deformation from any kind of impact.

I was driving up a hill on a bypass and a work truck kicked up a rock that hit me windshield, nothing happened then, i checked hours later and it turned into a small crack, a few days later that small crack turned into a big crack that grew the entire windshield and is in field of vision

Windshield cracked very easily with small road debris making contact while driving on the highway. the eyesight collision avoidance occasionally does not function due to the crack in the windshield.

While driving to work on september 3, 2019, i heard a noise and saw that a crack appeared to the left of the passenger side of the window. it was approximately 4 inches straight across. i called my insurance agency to report it. it took a week for the windshield to come in. during that week the crack spread to the center of the car. the windshield company fixed it and 2 weeks to the day, my husband and i were driving down the highway and heard something hit the windshield. i know have a spider web crack in my windshield. so far it hasn’t gone any further so i have not contacted my insurance company yet.

Got my new forester 8/1/19. on 9/20/19, the windshield cracked while on the highway. we did not hear anything hit it. the crack grew to about 2 feet, and the windshield had to be replaced on 9/25/19. about 10/25/19, i got 2 dings from rocks that had to be repaired. i drove a toyota for 12 years and had one ding. i don’t think the subaru windshields are strong enough, and i think they present a hazard.

Traveling at about 30 mph a small pebble hit my windshield. did not see any damage but when i got back into the car after a gym workout (2 hours) the windshield developed a crack from the driver’s side edge of windshield towards the center of the windshield (18” from edge of windshield to the end of crack). i took my car to henderson glass in troy mi. and i submittted a claim with progressive insurance while at henderson glass (referal # 681837). later i had read subaru forester’s were having windshield cracking issues. my issue is my $100.00 deductible and my insurance company having to pay for a windshield that maybe a manufacter defect. also i do not want my insurance rates go up for claim.

There are actually three issues with the vehicle. the biggest issue, and potentially the most dangerous, is the vehicle randomly shutting itself off - not stalling. the problem occurs most often while stopped at lights, but has occurred in other situations as well. all functions in the vehicle stop, a loud, continuous beep begins and the dash indicates an 'eye site' error. apparently, when the eye site feature has an issue, it responds by rendering the entire vehicle inoperable. so far, returning the vehicle to park and restarting the vehicle resets the feature and restores functionality. the problem is, however, happening more frequently. the second issue is a loud, rapid clicking sound coming from behind the driver's side dash. it also occurs randomly and with increasing frequency. it does not appear to hinder functionality, but it can be incredibly distracting. finally, as others have reported, the rear hatch also randomly shuts itself off and does not respond to prompt to open. subaru's response to these issues has thus far been the equivalent of a shoulder shrug.

***windshield cracked*** just like many others that reported the same. the windshield cracked standing in the garage. started from all the way on the bottom and arched over to the middle of the windshield and so far it has stopped spreading. there is no sign or impact from any rocks or debris. just a solid line. i hope subaru will live up to this and replace the windsield and calibrate the eye sight under full warranty. car has 12k and had it since feb. 2019. there is a lawsuit currently pending on this issue and it stated to file a complaint here. i bought this car because of how safe they claim it is. now i have a new born and i dont know if this car is as safe as it claims to be due to this faulty windshield.

We bought the vehicle in december 2018. since then we have had the windshield crack on us twice. the first crack developed 3 months after the date of the purchase. we noticed the crack after getting back into the vehicle while it was parked outside. the second crack appeared in october 2019. the second crack developed while driving on the highway. it was early in the morning and there were no other vehicles in front of me. i was driving and hit a small bump in the road. immediately right after i notice the crack develop. both times the crack was on the driver side directly across the line of sight.

There windshield went from fine, not chipped or cracked in the evening to having an 18inch crack in the morning. nothing occurred during this time to cause the crack. the car was parked in the back of my driveway overnight. the crack continue to grow another 6 inches before it was replaced 24hrs after the crack appeared.

I have only had my forester for 3-4 months when i noticed a chip on the windshield, i called safe light and they came to repair it. then it cracked across my windshield needing to be replaced. the very next week another chip happened while i was driving under 35 mph. i have to get the windshield replaced and re calibrated which is 1,000-2,000 +

Moon roof will randomly fail to close when pressing the "close" button. need to turn the ignition off and then re-start the vehicle again before the button/moon roof will operate again. it already happened three times since septemeber 7, 2019.

One day i wake up to drive my car to work to find a small crack in my windshield with no single reason for this to happen

While traveling at approximately 70 mph on an interstate with little to no traffic for approximately 1/4 mile ahead or behind my vehicle the windshield spontaneously cracked from the bottom of the windshield, near the center of the windshield, vertically towards the top and then turned horizontal. there was no sound of an impact or evidence of an external factor causing the windshield to fracture.

A large crack in the windsheild though the top center , where the eyesight technology center is located, occurred without any incident to catalyze the cracking of the glass.

My son's new 2019 subaru forester touring burned to a crisp (total) on saturday, 10/19 in i-95 near new rochelle, ny. vehicle was in the left lane and the car in front stopped and they hit it, then they were hit in the back, too. their car burned but the car in front and behind did not. the car in front was even able to move indicating nothing wrong with its gas tank.

Windshield are easily crack by debris on the road. and sat in the son, it will crack. i was driving on the freeway and a car flick a rock from road (construction area) and hit my windshield and immediately cracked. also prior to the rock chip, my car was parked at work and when i came out to sit in my car on my break, i notice there is a long line on windshield and there’s a line crack

Rear hatch will not open using remote or button on dashboard or button on door. this happened when i was parked at grocery store. tried again at home and still not working.

Since owning car since december 2018, i have noticed intermittently that the rear hatch will not open manually when i press the buttons in the back. also sometimes it does not open when i press the button on left side of dashboard. there is a release mechanism on the inside rear door panel but it is difficult to reach because i have to crawl into the rear of car from a side door. i also need a metal tool to open panel. i think subaru needs to add a keyhole on the outside of hatch so i can use my key to open it in emergencies.

Windshield has cracked two times in less than a year. in one instance it was a minor rock chip (incurred while driving on highway next to construction vehicle) that turned into a full-blown crack within 5 minutes, in the other there appears to be no cause (vehicle was parked overnight, crack appeared in am)

On 2/9/19 about 5pm after car was parked in garage for about an hour i noticed a large crack on the windshield about 20 inches long on front passenger side. i had just come back driving on the highway and didn't hear anything hit my windshield nor did i notice a crack in my windshield. i had the heater and defrost on along with the wipers going at this time b/c it was raining off and on. the crack line was near the heating element on the passenger side windshield and continued horizontally toward the driver side window. it was about 20 inches long. i believe the combination of the windshield being cold and the heating defrost mechanism being turned caused the windshield to crack. my insurance, geico, reimbursed me for everything except for $50.

While driving down a road going 45 a small rock popped up and hit my windshield causing a chip in it. i've had my fair share of rocks pop up before and hit my windshield while driving, and have never had one this small cause a chip. it is pretty much directly in front on my eye sight cameras.

We were driving on a paved road with no other cars around and the windshield spontaneously developed a 12 inch crack coming up from very low on the drivers side of the windshield. it was approximately 65 degrees outside and we did not have either the heater or a/c running. over the next 24 hours the crack increased to about 24 inches. on close examination i did see an extremely small 'star' where the crack started. i do remember having a pebble hit the windshield over a month ago but i could not see any damage at the time. i suppose it's possible that's what caused the tiny chip. i have received stone chips with other cars but never had one progress into a major crack like this before.

When i was driving on the highway, i heard the crack, but i didn't see the object. after i heard the sound, i saw there's a crack on the windshield.

Windshield cracked while parked 3 weeks after o bought it. subaru refused responsibility, so i had to pay for the replacement and recalibration.

While driving at highway speeds a small rock (sounded like a small 'click') hit the windshield. there was no immediate crack with only a small chip in the windshield. after leaving work that day the chip had turned into a crack approximately 6 inches in length. the crack continued to increase in length over the next two days and even split off into a secondary crack.

I was backing out of parking space, approximately 5 mph. rear view mirror fell off windshield. windshield at place of mirror attachment had broken so a large chunk of the windshield was still attached to the mirror. was not a full thickness break but created a divot in the windshield approximately 2 inches in diameter. there was no previous damage to this area of windshield. car had been in no accidents. there was a very small (1/2 inch) star in windshield toward outside of passenger side which occurred from rock 4 months before and was not enlarging.

My 2019 forester premium, 6 weeks old and <200 miles on it was parked in my driveway overnight. it was cold out that night. when i got into my car i turned in the heated windshield and regular heat in the car. moments later and while still parked in the driveway, the windshield cracked from the windshield heating element halfway up to the top. brought it to the auto glass place nearby, where it was noted by the technician that no impact point was present. he documented this on my work order / receipt. the windshield was on backorder for 3 weeks but was finally installed.

As i was driving in the right hand lane on the interstate, my back side door window spontaneously shattered. i had been driving for one hour, temperature was around 80 degrees.

#1 ) while applying the brake at low speed the cvt transmission causes the vehicle to jump forward countering my braking control. #2) while driving the visuals and driver assist alerts distract the drivers visual attention away from the road

08/16/19 i was driving down the interstate at 70mph, i heard a very faint "tink" and saw a 1 inch crack on the lower passenger side near the outer edge. i did not see a rock and it definitely was not a loud sound like a normal rock chip would create. my insurance set up an appointment at 8:00 am the following morning 08/17/19 with safelite to repair it. after being at safelight for only 5 minutes the tech comes out to tell me the windshield split and now i have a 19 inch crack across my windshield and it must be replaced and the cameras recalibrated through subaru. i now have to drive my 1 month old subaru forester sport with a cracked windshield until my subaru dealer can get me a new windshield and repair date. i've owned honda, toyota , scion, chevy, gmc, acura, lexus and ford and have never had a windshield crack or split. this seems to be way too common with these subaru windshields.

Winshield has cracked twice on a 2019 subaru forrester. either the angle of the windshield, or the quality of the glass is a very poor design. i think this should be investigated, because i'm sure this will become a common problem.

Windshield defect. it just cracked by itself without any outside force. the crack started at the bottom of the windshield. the vehicle was not at motion. it was after being parked.

Something hit the edge of the windshield and it cracked over half way to the drivers side. my husband was driving it on nb i65 north of mobile, alabama. the windshield had sever pits in it not sure what those were caused by. subaru makes money as the eyesight system needs to be calibrated after a new windshield is installed. one crack had been repaired on 2/4819 mileage was 6330

Key cannot be removed from ignition switch even if vehicle is in park. occurs on a regular basis now. there is a subaru tsb for this (16-112-18r).

A spontaneous 20-25in windshield crack has appeared overnight while my 2019 subaru forester was parked in a covered parking spot at my home on 8/25/2019. i was surprised to see this in the morning on sunday as there was no crack on saturday and the car was just sitting there overnight. seems like the crack started below the driver's window wiper (where the wiper heating element is located) and developed a c-shape crack up and to the left towards the driver's view side. no signs of chips or dents on the windshield, it has cracked for no obvious reason. please see pictures attached. i have googled this issue and it seems that there were a lot of similar complaints about outback and forester in the past. it would be nice if subaru acknowledged and fixed this issue. thank you for your help! best regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving on highway and did not hear a rock or any object hit windshield. when i arrived home i noticed a crack in windshield beginning at deicer of windshield up to 25% upwards from the bottom of the windshield. the window appears to be brittle and subaru previously had same issue with 2016 outbacks. subaru denied this was within warranty. i purchased the car new 3-4 weeks ago.

The vehicle accelerates/lurches forward every time when coasting or slowly braking from around 30mph to a stop. there is a normal predictable reduction in speed until the car reaches 15 to 16 mph, at which point it accelerates/lurches forward. it feels as if the transmission was suddenly shifting and creating more power. the severity of the acceleration while fluctuates wildly. in one instance while slowing approaching a stop light the car severely accelerated forcing me to have to slam on the brakes to compensate and prevent the vehicle from crashing into the car in front of us waiting at the stop light. the car came to a stop approximately 20 feet in front of where we would have stopped under normal conditions. the vehicle had less than 100 miles on it when the most severe of these instances occurred. on another note the car has trouble coasting. it decelerates abnormally fast when you take your foot off the gas.

Windshield of car cracked without any contact. there was a loud cracking noise and a large crack appeared which kept getting longer as i drove. the car was on the highway when this happened on a sunny normal chicago summer day, about 80 degrees f.

In an accident involving front end to other car rear end on an interstate highway, the airbag system didn’t deploy. the engine then caught fire in the right front of the engine. the entire car burned. fortunately no injury to driver or passenger.

My complaint may not be valid but i though it appropriate since many others are having windshield problems with their 2018/19 subaru foresters. i had a small rock bounce of the windshield while driving at 35mph on aug 1,2019 and now the shield is spider webbed with two long cracks and two smaller cracks. from my readings online, it appears that people with these models are having to replace their windshields at unusual rates. of course you cannot predict what a rock to the shield will do, but i do know from experience that driving these same roads and conditions for 20years with two other vehicles, that i have only had to replace two windshields. just my two cents and after this replacement we shall see how long the next shield lasts.

This complaint relates to the unsafe nature of the auto start/stop feature on our 2019 subaru forester. the vehicle automatically shuts the engine off when you come to a stop, at a stop sign for example. it then takes a second or more for the engine to start again after taking your foot off the brake. this hesitation is very unsafe in any situation where there is a need for the vehicle to move out of the way of approaching danger, such as an out-of-control vehicle coming at the car. the hesitation in movement caused by this feature could easily mean the difference between being hit and getting out of the way. the feature's default setting is "on." even if you turn it off, the next time you start the car it will be back on again. it would be much safer if the feature's default setting was "off." the subaru dealer says they cannot change the default setting to "off." i have written to subaru several times about this issue and they are unresponsive. the car is clearly less safe to operate with the feature on, so subaru should be required to change the default setting to "off."

Bottom passenger side windshield cracked across glass. grew fast and still growing across to drivers side. did not see anything hit it. was driving and just heard pop of glass and crack. no star just crack from corner under wiper.

Vehicle quickly developed a "surge, sputtering, jerk" type action when coasting or maintaining speeds above 35mph. also when braking, there is good and predictable speed reduction until about 10mph when the transmissions seems to unlock and the car lunges forward since there is suddenly not enough brake pressure because the transmission has shifted for some reason. dealer has been able to replicate the issue but has no known fix. brand new car 1 month old and it runs like a brand new car should, until you get to maintaining cruising speeds. very disappointing to have this one issue with something that is otherwise a fantastic car.

In may a small rock from highway driving nicked the windshield of my car, putting a small scratch in the glass. within hours the scratch had spread into a major crack spanning 3 feet across the windshield. i had a glass warrantee on the car from the dealer, which the dealer declined to honor because the crack was greater than 12 inches, although starting out as only a nick. i see from car and driver that this has become a concern for at least 100 2019 subaru forester owners. i had similar damage on my 2011 acura rdx with a rock creating a scratch about a quarter of an inch long, but in that case the scratch stayed a scratch. subaru made me pay for the entire labor and windshield replacement costs on a virtually new car, approximately $1,100.

Purchased new in oct. 2018. was absolutely surprised just how easy every little tiny bit of salt or normal debris from winter driving chips the windshield (paved, interstate). by the end of the winter, i had near as many pits in this subaru windshield with 10,500 miles on the forester as my pickup which has 200,000 miles on it. then in april 2019, i'm driving down the interstate, a small rock gets thrown at me, and the windshield shatters! it wasn't a hard hit, and it wasn't that big. (i say this based on sound. usually when a windshield shatters, the noise is so intense it'll make you jump!) then to top it all off, they have the nerve to tell you it costs $1,200 to replace! obviously i have no choice, the crack is right in the worst spot possible for visibility. i cannot safely drive the car due to my height and the where the crack went as it created a double vision issue. i go ahead and schedule the replacement, but the dealer tells me its on back order. it takes them 17 days to get me a new windshield, during which time i cant really drive the car. i did not get third party replacement glass, i got an oem windshield ordered thru the dealer the car was purchased from. now oct. 2019 i have 18,300 miles on the car, and while summer driving has been less hard on the windshield, the new one seems to pit easily/often as well.

We bought the car in april, and by july i already had to have the windshield replaced twice and repaired once. it cracks if barely anything hits it.

Was driving on highway to work, the windshield suddenly cracked, out of nowhere, no rock chip, no impact from outside. it's a 3 months old forester 2019 with ~5000 miles on it. really disappointed with the quality of the glass.

There had been a squeaking / crackling noise coming from the area where the dash meets the windshield. this noise only occurred when it was very hot outside 85 degrees or more. while i was driving down the road with no cars in front of me the windshield cracked from the bottom up. the crack starting where the noise was coming from. i have full glass coverage so i didn't think much about it. since then i've heard about a possible faulty windshield in the 19 foresters. if it happens again i'll be going to subaru for a replacement. this matter needs to be looked into as the car only had 5,000 miles on it at the time of the incident.

My 2019 subaru forester is now on its second front windshield replacement. in each case, i assume there was impact from a small rock due to the very tiny chip in-line with the eventual crack. neither impact started as anything big judging by the size of the tiny pit and the fact the cracks developed days afterwards, the first during city driving and on the second incident, while the car was parked in the garage. i have taken previous small projectile impacts on the interstate with other car makes owned and never had to replace windshields due to similar incidents although now i am on the second windshield replacement on a subaru owned less than a year. i had a 2003 subaru forester and a 2012 subaru impreza and only replaced one windshield in the 25 yrs combined that i owned those cars.

Just yesterday my subaru experienced an inexplicable sudden windshield fracture. the car was parked in my driveway warming up and i turned on the front defroster and suddenly, from the bottom center of the windshield, a giant crack appeared out of nowhere. my forester currently has 7600 miles on it and a rock/stone has never struck my windshield. i am the only driver of this vehicle. this crack started at the very bottom center of the windshield under the plastic molding part and made its way up from there. the crack started immediately adjacent to the heating elements / defroster on the bottom middle front windshield as soon as i activated the front defrost feature.

I purchased a 2019 subaru forester in mid-july and have had to replace two windshields due to cracking. the first replacement was in september due to a rock hitting the windshield on the far right passenger side. the chip quickly developed into an 18” crack. i noticed a second crack yesterday which originated behind the wiper blade in the bottom center of the windshield that extends on a 16” arch in the same direction of the wiper blade motion. there is very small chip, located behind the metal portion of the wiper blade from a rock that must have fallen out of the sky. i was traveling in the vehicle on m55 between lake city and cadillac on paved roads but had started out the morning in marquette, mi where the temperatures where in the 30s with a rain/snow mix. i did not hear any rock hit the windshield.

Windshield cracked while driving on highway

While driving about 40 mph on a well traveled road i’m assuming a small stone cause a minute divot in the windshield. i was planning on repairing it the following morning. the next morning the entire windshield was cracked. i purchased my subaru forester touring august 2019. i didn’t even own it a month and haven’t even made a payment. needless to say i had to replace the windshield and have the sensors recalibrated. i had many stones hit my windshield in the past and i never had to replace it just repair. i found it odd at the time, the entire windshield cracked. now after reading on car and driver, facebook and now nhtsa i decided to report it. since the sensor only works with oem glass and you can’t use rainx i’m assuming the windshield glass has some type of issues. why else could i not use a non oem glass? i was told by the dealership a known issue is the sensor may not work.

Windshield cracked while driving on a bay bridge 1 month after we got our new subaru forester. there were no cars in front and no signs of  any objects hitting the glass. it was really suspicious and we decided to search for any similar complaints and found a lot here, so it actually looks like some manufacturer issue.

When car is in motion the passenger airbag off light remains illuminated. this started intermittently yesterday, on my 4th day of owning the new car! the subaru alert system also notified me that something wasn’t working and that it would require a service call.

Rear hatch will not open. this issue has been random and periodic since we took delivery from dealer at end of may, 2019. today after shopping i tried to place items in the hatch. it would not open. i tried the inside button and the handle on the hatch, neither worked. i loaded the items in the back seat, started the car then started to back out of the space. as vehicle traveled in reverse there was a noise like a motor and the hatch opened. dealer has not been helpful so far but this is the first time it opened while in motion

Very weak windshield a very small rock caused a crack all the way across the windshield it didn’t even hit it directly or hard.

I have experienced two instances of phantom braking, similar to reports i've read about nissan rogues. once in july, and once last week. in both cases i was driving at low highway speed on a sunny afternoon. the car's "object dectected" warning flashed and beeped, and the car braked automatically, for no reason. i suspect bright sunlight and/or a shadow on the highway was to blame

Owned this car for 3 months and 4x the rear gate does not open using the appropriate button on the dashboard. requires use of key fob rear gate open/close button or flattening back seat to drag groceries out side door. happens in park when trying to unload items from rear.

2019 forester with approximately 600 miles has passenger air bag light constantly on. passenger sat in seat, light did not go out. subaru service did not address the problem - or correct the problem. researching this - it has been a problem for the past 3 years. it's also a problem on the 2019 models. investigation needs to be expanded to 2019 models.

The windshield spontaneously cracked on the passenger side. i was driving straight about 40mph on a hot day mid-september with the a/c going. there was a sudden "pop" and i noticed a curved crack had instantly appeared on the passenger side. there were no cars near me. looking at the windshield, i didn't see an obvious impact but i could see near the defroster traces the crack appeared to form there. i'm concerned this could have been from thermal stress and the windshield should not have cracked that easily. the crack appears to be coming from inside to outside and some of the glass sort of flaked when i probed it with my finger.

I was driving straight on a city street on hot day with the a/c on when there was a loud "pop". a diagonal crack instantly appeared on the passenger side in the windshield. no other cars were near me and i was going about 40mph. the car had previously been sitting in the sun with a windshield shade for about 30 minutes. i'd been driving about 5 minutes when the windshield cracked. when i inspected the crack, it appeared near the defroster and appeared to flake a bit when i probed it with my finger. it appears to be a crack starting from the inside to out. this could be thermal stress and i'm concerned because the car has under 250 miles on it and no windshield should crack that easily.

I was involved in a 4 car accident. i was rear ended by two vehicles behind me which sent me into the vehicle in front of me. my 2019 subaru forester’s air bags did not deploy and my seat belt did not restrain me; therefore, i was throw into the windshield support post and suffered a head injury. i am very unhappy with my subaru and pray for others out there with this vehicle! new bern, nc

I have owned the car for 6 months and the car only has 3500 miles. i have had the windshield repaired twice in the past month due to chips. the glass seems very weak and cracks with the slightest impact. i’ve never experienced this with any other cars. it usually takes a big rock to crack it.

The back door will not open with remote control, dashboard open button, or manual button on door itself. there are ways mechanics can open it, but not your average child or adult. sometimes the back gate is is the only way out to rescue a passenger. this gate fails and could cause death in emergencies like when trapped in car during hot (or cold) weather, and if it is the only way out in accidents. this fault happens intermittently, but it is reported all over the internet for this model.

I purchased a 2019 subaru forester, sport in november 2018. in march/april my windshield was cracked by a small rock that hit it on a small country road. i had to have it completely replaced. now five months later, a small rock hit my windshield while driving on a 2 lane township road, and it cracked again. i have to have it completely replaced again and pay another deductible fee. i've had other, non-subaru, vehicles and my windshields have never cracked with a rock hitting them. this is my 2nd subaru vehicle. my first model, a 2010 forester also had to have it's windshield replaced due to the windshield cracking due to temperature changes. there is no way that the size of rock that hit my glass should have caused the damage that it has, now multiple times.

We own a 2019 subaru forester sport. the front passenger airbag continually fails to register our daughter when she is sat in the seat with the seat belt buckled. she weighs approximately 100 pounds, is 5' tall and 13 years old. the airbag detects her about 50% of the time. if we add additional weight to her, such as my purse it will sometimes detect her but not always. we have brought it into the dealership service department and they say it is functioning as designed but will not tell us at what weight the airbag detection system should be triggered. the vehicle is stationary when we experience this problem.

When i parked my car at my workplace there was no visible damage to the windshield and when i returned afterwards, there was a large crack, over a foot long coming from the top of the driver's side. upon inspection, there is an extremely tiny point of impact from a tiny pebble. the windshield is so fragile. i suspect they use thinner glass to allow eyesight to function properly. i've heard of people needing to replace windshields within weeks of each other. it's concerning when subaru markets these vehicles to be capable of handling all weather conditions when the windshield is not even strong enough to withstand a tiny pebble. i drive the speed limits, never tailgate, and i never had this problem on any other vehicles i've owned. i'm truly disappointed that i will have to replace my windshield and have eyesight recalibrated, which will be very costly, with less than 4,000 miles on the odometer.

I was driving on the highway in colorado and was a good distance from the cars ahead of me when a rock chipped my windshield. within 5 minutes the chip had cracked across the glass.

While driving around 30mph the car will sometimes hesitate and then lurch if the gas pedal is very lightly pressed. sometimes it will do it at higher speeds as well, around 50mph but not typically at freeway speed. happens on mountain roads and city streets. most noticeable when keeping speed with a car ahead. when pressing harder on the gas pedal it is usually not noticeable. when driving in “sport” mode or with manual paddle shifters set at 4th gear or lower it does not happen. this is a cvt sport model. drove a loaner of the same year and trim, which showed similar behavior, although less common. subaru claims it is normal behavior.

I had the new 2019 subaru forester for not even a month yet, and i have been in the dealership for 5 times regard of power rear gate not opening and cracked right rear quarter glass, which of the two i considered manufacturer defects, but they denied on both issues but could not provide me the reason and proper way of how they’re going to handle the problem.

I purchased my 2019 subaru forester sport on friday, 4/19/19. on saturday, 4/20/19 i was driving on the interstate in the right lane with a pickup truck pulling a trailer ahead and in the lane to my left. i did not see anything, but heard a crack and my windshield cracked from the top just a few inches from center toward the passenger side down towards the center of the windshield. upon inspection of the windshield it appeared that a small rock may have hit the windshield near the top in the section of the windshield which is black. the dealer stated it was hit by something and therefore not covered under warranty. i filed a claim with my insurance and paid the deductible to have the dealer replace the windshield. i picked up the vehicle monday, 5/6/19 after having the windshield replaced. on wednesday, 5/8/19 while driving in town at approximately 35mph with nobody in front of me, the windshield cracked from the bottom right hand corner up towards the center of the windshield. i took the vehicle to the dealer who could not find any impact damage causing the crack. they agreed to replace the windshield at no charge to me. i picked up the vehicle on tuesday 5/14/19 after the second windshield replacement. as of today, thursday 5/16/19 the windshield does not have any damage, although with having two windshields replaced within less than one month of ownership, it appears there is some sort of problem with the manufacturing and/or design of the subaru vehicles and/or windshields.

The seatbelt in the backseat gets tangled and locks in an upper position making the seatbelt inoperable.i have had the car seven months and it has happened 10 times. i take it to the dealer , they pull the stuck belt out from under the metal roller,but it happens again and again.*dt*jb

Accidentally left the moonroof slightly open. rainwater got inside the adaptive cruise control causing it to malfunction .

New car - 3 weeks old and a 1,000 miles. driving to work on a route i've taken for 5 years. i was traveling at 60 mph on i-195 on a rainy morning, and i heard what sounded like a small rock hit the windshiled but i couldn't see any damage. after work walking back to my car i see a one foot crack on the passenger side, which has now grown to two feet running horizontal. there is a small chip just below the passenger side wiper. the crack has grown from that chip. very frustrating to have glass break and crack so easily. after researching this i saw that several people have had similar issues with forester glass.

In our 2 week old 2019 forester, we were driving on the freeway at 65mph and felt a sudden jolt and the car shut off: the lights on the dashboard went off, the headlights went off, the turn signals would not work and the accelerator wasn't working. we guided the car off the freeway and sat on the side of the freeway. the dealer's master mechanic cannot find any code that tells them what is wrong so they tell us there is nothing to fix. this is outrageous. this was a life-threatening event so we do not feel safe driving the car for ourselves and other cars on the freeway. subaru is not taking this seriously. we read there have been other "car stall" problems similar to ours with foresters from other years.

Front windshield has numerous rock chips, quality of the glass is not up to par and i'm afraid that cracks will start to form soon. please investigate as subaru needs to be aware that the current glass needs to be replaced with a durable glass and be able to resist everyday hits from small debris on the freeway.

Wife was driving down the highway and hit a very small pebble about the size of a skittle and the windshield cracked and needs a full replacement.

Windshield is weak and cracks very easily. have had it replaced and five days later it needs replacing again due to crack. both times from a small rock hitting the windshield on the highway.

Windshield cracked from a small pebble after having the car for 5 days. i was driving on a city street, traveling less than 40 mph when a pebble hit the driver's side edge of the windshield. the windshield should be able to withstand pebbles being thrown up from the road. this should be addressed by the manufacturer. i cannot believe that this windshield cannot handle debris hitting it. no divots or pitting in the windshield, just an immediate crack that grows. very disapppointed with this vehicle's windshield.

Had car only three months. now in addition to a chip there is a gigantic crack in the windshield that will require an expensive oem replacement.

Within this vehicle's first 500 miles some wind whipped up sand particles on the highway, i heard a "pop pop pop" and when i got out noticed three small chips on the windshield. i have had cars for thousands and thousands of miles and never a chip. i am now fearful of taking this car on gravel roads which is why i purchased it.

Driving on a 3 hour drive home going 65mph i got small rocks hit the windshield at two different times and immediately cracked the windshield. i was going 45mph on one and 65mph on the other. seems to be a bad design or just bad windshields.

While driving a slight noise was heard followed by the appearance of a horizontal crack which spread to approximately 15". vehicle was in motion on a us highway. both safelite and the local subaru dealer have advised that replacement glass is on hold / national backorder. it has been broken and there is no estimate of when or if it can be repaired.

Windshield cracked on new 2019 subaru forester. car was moving and hit by a stone while driving on the freeway. chip grew horizontally across the line of sight. now i have been informed that there is a national back order on windshields for this model. this has created a safety issue, a legal issue, and a convenience issue. after checking on line i see where there are many people with a similar problem. the cars should not be available for sale if there are no replacement parts for something as basic as a windshield. this "single point of failure" is making the vehicle undrivable.

When driving on the local road, i heard a loud snap from my windshield but forgot about that when i got home. the next morning i noticed a crack at the bottom of the windshield glass. today that crack extended by several inches. according to subaru dealership, there is a very long back order for 2019 subaru forester windshields.

The forester arrived to us from the dealership with a cracked windshield. it was replaced by the dealership. the replacement was cracked within a day of driving the vehicle. there seems to be an ongoing issue with the 2019 subaru forester windshields. both times of incident the vehicle was in motion on the highway and was impacted by a very small rock - yet the entire windshield became damaged.

Cracked windshield after driving only 1500 miles. we were driving with no other cars on the road when we heard it crack.

When i start my car via subaru starlink the following technical issues occur voice over bluetooth gets distorted, apple carplay does not connect or affects radio first was noticed jan 23, 2019. also, power rear gate door would fail and would not open with rear gate button, dash button or via key fob as this on and off problem also noticed after car is started via remote app starlink. power gate problem reported first on jan 23, 2019 and continues through the present date. eyesight failed on jul 06, 2019 when car was started via starlink, jul 07, 2019 eyesight back on and failed again on jul 08, 2019 when car was manually started from parking position. when eyesight fails it effect vehicle dynamic control which analyzes steering angle, engine speed and braking conditions. also, cruise control fails to work ans well subaru reverse automatic breaking. total miles on the car 7321 as of jul 08, 2019.

Crack occurred on passenger side windshield with in overnight. i haven't heard any rock hitting sound.

In the last two months i have had two windshields spontaneously fracture one while driving the car the other when garaged.

On the 10th of july while stopped at a red light, i watched a crack come down from about 4 inches from the top of the passenger side windshield, to down just below the rear view mirror height and then continue all the way over to my side (drivers side). a sound of something hitting the windshield was never heard! only when i examined the windshield from outside could you see a very minute chip which should have never caused this damage! this windshield glass is so thin that i'm afraid if something bigger hits it, it will come through the windshield! this is very dangerous! a very expensive oem windshield (and calibration) is required as a replacement due to the eyesight cameras. why an after market windshield an calibration can't be used i don't know? something up?

Windshield cracks and damages easily. a small rock hit my windshield at a very low speed but somehow has damaged and cracked the windshield. i will have to replace the entire windshield out of my own pocket.

Have taken my brand new 2019 subaru forester sport to local dealership a total of 5 times in 2 months regarding the rear hatch not opening. they state to reset it i need to disconnect the battery and let it discharge, then connect the terminals. this is a headache and a major inconvenience to have to do when you have loads of items you need to load into the vehicle. this is definitely defective and needs to be recalled by subaru to fix. doesn't matter if the vehicle is on a flat surface or if it is at an incline. the rear hatch will get stuck and can't open it.

I was driving on the local highway in greensboro sunday june 16th, when a small pebble flew up from the road hitting the windshield and causing a large crack running across the passenger side of the vehicle. this occurred in my brand new vehicle that we had only had for three weeks at the time. our other forester we have had for many years, encountering similar situations with no damage to the windshield. i contacted subaru of america to make them aware of this occurrence as it should not have happened with minimal impact from a very small object.

Windshield quality - 2019 subaru forester sport windshield chip very easy. car parked on driveway and it was hailing for 2 minutes; couple tiny chipped/pitted were found on windshield; no crack. this only happen to the subaru, but not the other vehicles i owned (volvo and honda). subaru windshield chip/pitted easily on vehicle with eye sight equipped. the windshield seems thinner compare to older model and other vehicle brands. this issue also applied on highway driving as any tiny object will cause chipped on windshield easily where this does not applied on other vehicles. replacement is expensive as windshield has to be subaru certified otherwise eye sight will not work. furthermore, eye sight calibration is an additional cost on top of the windshield replacement and it is not cover by dealership windshield warranty package.

While driving on empty highway at appx 55mph, windshield spontaneously cracked. crack extends from the edge of the passenger side about 15 inches. no rock or other foreign object hit the windshield. car is 5 weeks old with 1,070 miles.

As others have reported, the windshield quality is suspect. car was only a month old with less than 700 miles when a large horizontal crack appeared on the passenger side of the windshield after the car had been parked in a parking lot. no visible signs or evidence of impact from a foreign source. have never had anything like this happen in previous cars in over 20 years of driving. what makes matters worse is that an expensive oem windshield (and calibration) is required as a replacement due to the eyesight cameras.

Homelink, the in car operation for garage door openers changed creating what i believe to be a hazard. the current version only operates with the ignition on while previous models did not have this requirement. i contacted subaru and their reply was "working as intended". my point is this, how many people might now start their car in an enclosed space (closed garage) because the homelink won't open the door until ignition is on? i recognize that you can turn ignition on without starting the vehicle, but how many people might not understand or take the extra step to do that?

Steering floats at speeds above 50 mph. it is extremely sensitive and twitchy requiring constant driver correction. difficult to maintain a consistent path in traffic lanes due to constant correction.

600 miles on new car. i was driving on local street less than 45mph and a small pebble kicked up and chipped my windshield. this shouldn’t have happened so easily because i’ve had cars for years and never experienced a windshield chip so easily. the internet is full of new forester windshield complaints.

On 5/12/2019, a 6-inch crack appeared in the windshield after the car sat in a driveway for approximately three hours. it was in a rural area with no trees overhead. there was no sign of a chip or dent precipitating the crack, nor do i (the driver) recall hearing anything hit the windshield recently.

Windshield spontaneously cracked while parked in the garage. crack began at the center of the windshield underneath the plastic cover and formed a larch "s" shaped crack. cracks interfere with the eyesight safety system and visibility while driving. car was only 3 weeks old with 1600 miles.

Steering is very sensitive on highway speed -- above 50mph. car is responding too much and unpredictable on any small movement of steering wheel.

I took delivery of a 2019 suburu forrester on friday june 7, 2019. less than 3 days later the entire starlink command head unit failed leaving the backup camera, radio, audio, cell phone and navigation systems inoperable. the dealer could not fix the problem. a new unit must be ordered.

Over the course of about three weeks, two different windshields have been destroyed by very small rock chips that very rapidly turned into large cracks. the first occurred on the freeway, in traffic, at a relatively slow speed (approx 35mph). i heard a slight tick and noticed a very small chip on the windshield (about the size of a bug). i made a note that i would need to arrange a repair and continued to my destination. after being parked for approximately an hour, i returned to the vehicle and noticed i had an 18 inch crack in my windshield, directly in my line of sight. i made arrangements for a replacement which was delayed, i was told, because there was a backlog of foresters awaiting windshield replacement. about a week after the replacement, again while on the freeway, i received another chip, which turned into a 2 foot crack within about 2 minutes. these windshields are extremely expensive to replace due to subaru's "eyesight" safety systems. these incidents have exponentially increased the cost of ownership on a vehicle that i purchased specifically for its perceived low running costs. in my 25 years of driving i have had to repair a few rock chips but i have never had to replace a windshield. now i will have replaced two on a vehicle less than 4 months old. i can only assume that subaru has used extremely low grade or defective glass that easily cracks, creating a visibility safety hazard and undue expense for forester owners.

The rear, automatic tailgate periodically fails to operate and effectively locks one out of that area. there is no known by-pass or workaround and based on subaru user site, appears to be a widespread problem. it also seems that subaru itself does not understand the issue and has many explanations but no solution or workaround. it represents a serious safety issue should a pet be in the back or perhaps a person after a crash. when it fails, the electronic key, dashboard button and button on the gate all fail to operate and one is effectively locked out from that part of the car. the "when did this happen" question needs to have multiple answer options. my wife and i both own a 2019 subaru forester touring and we both are having issues. incidents right after purchase at the end of april 2019 and through 5/31/2019 per car.

Windshield shattered within 6 months of purchase during a drive on a county maintained dirt road going 30mph. received first chip after 3 days of use on an interstate going 65mph. after looking into cost for repairs discovered this is a known problem with recent subaru vehicles including a law suit in canada against the outback model vehicles for shattering glass. i have never had to replace a windshield on a vehicle before and now must do so within 6 months of purchasing a brand new vehicle. this is a serious safety concern, if the windshields are this thin it will not take much force to have objects come flying through the windshield.

Strange rattling noise at the rear passenger seatbelt compartment and rear passenger seat. noise is only heard while driving over rough pavement or surfaces. not normal for a 2-month old vehicle.

I was driving on the highway nowhere near another car, when my windshield spontaneously cracked. it's a horizontal crack across almost half of my windshield on the passenger side, about 19 inches long and 14 inches from the bottom. i was out in the open, no trees, no overpass, no other cars nearby.

A crack has developed in windshield. it appears to have begun below the wiper blade on the passenger side of the car. and is traveling horizontally across to the driver's side of the windshield, in the sight line of the driver.. the crack is approximately 36" long and growing. yes, i know windshields can readily crack if hit by an object. but this appears to be a different issue because: 1) the vehicle is new, about 2 months old with approximately 4500 miles. 2) i know of no solid objects hitting the windshield 3) the crack appears to have begun in an area protected by the hood line. it would be highly unlikely a stone or other object on the road could be thrown up and strike the windshield below the wiper blades. 4) we first noticed the crack after the car had been stationary, parked in our driveway, for 3 days. 5) we having the first hot days of the year (90+ degrees f). 6) and yes, the internet has a number of very similar stories involving 2019 subaru foresters enduring cracking windshields when stationary.

I am here to report my 2019 subaru forrester windshield crack. i the car is only 1 month old and we found the crack in the morning while sitting in the driveway i heard the same problem happens on 2015 outback i called the shop and they took pictures and they did not find any chips that would indicate a rock or pebble hit the car and said they will call subaru and get back to me

The 2019 subaru forester with the electric rear door, has an almost impossible manual release mechanism for the interior rear hatch door (the 5th door at the rear). a little panel has to be removed using a screw drive to access the manual release. there is no sign or indication that the particular panel has the release behind it. if for some reason there is an emergency that necessitates the emergency use of that rear door, the victim will never get the door open unless (1) they know of the panel and (2) they have a screw driver with them!

Takata recall, we recently purchased a 2019 subaru forester from a subaru dealer in berlin vermont. it developed an extremely loud squeal with under 2000 miles. this was a result of defective brake material on the right rear inner brake pad breaking loose from the brake pad and lodging between the rotor and dust shield. i took photos of said defect (kept the defective component) and brought the vehicle back to the dealer, i gave them the defective material which was crusted on the side of the pad lining. they brought the car in and told me it was road dirt. fortunately i took photos of the defective component as well as the brake pad. they gave me the car back without changing the defective components. the defective brake pad had a build up of this crusted obviously defective material from brake manufacture on the sides of it. this material appeared to have a lava crusty type texture and is obviously not brake pad material. the manufactured brake pads are currently on the vehicle. i can not upload photos on this computer, do have photos however. this would obviously have some effect on brake life and and performance as a foreign substance is being introduced into the service brake components. i have the actual miles when the dealer brought it into the shop as well. thanks for your attention in this matter.

I was driving my 2019 subaru forester on the interstate when a car stopped in front of me. i attempted to brake, but did end up rear ending the car in front of me, which pushed her into the car in front of her. the impact was at least 30-35 mph and the car is totaled. airbags failed to deploy.*jb

I was driving the vehicle and a crack appeared spontaneously in the windshield starting from the bottom of the windshield close to the wiper. i have been unable to obtain a replacement windshield due to backorder and unavailability of subaru windshields for this vehicle. i am unable to drive the car due to the condition of the windshield. i am responsible for payments for a car that i cannot drive because subaru does not have the necessary replacement part. i have requested a substitution of collateral for this reason and am waiting to hear from subaru. according to various forums this seems to be an ongoing problem with this model subaru. is the part unavailable because so many windshield replacements are needed?

Windshield crack and rock chip. the subaru oem windshield is very weak and i've already noticed a chip on the windshield for a car that is 5 months old. several owners have already filed a complaint for the previous years, and its the same for 2019 as well.

While driving on the freeway, there were some bumps on the road and suddenly a crackling noise and a vertical crack developed on the driver side windshield. the cracked run from the upper right corner towards the bottom of the windshiled.

Bought the car 11/23/2018, and in january 2019 the windshield crack from the bottom up and branch out for no reason. the car parked inside of our garage. contacted subaru hq and dealership subaru of ontario california, both denied the windshield has any defect. and the dealership service manager only looked at it 2 seconds and said it's impacted!!

Drove the vehicle in the morning (heat on high). parked it in a private lot for about 5 hrs. there was light snow/ice that day. i got out to drive and see a huge crack on the windshield spanning from the passenger side through to the center of the windshield. there were previously no discernable nicks on the windshield. contacted subaru, all forester windshields are backordered. some on the forester forums have waited over a month for their windshield. mine will supposedly take at least 3 weeks. not acceptable to be driving with a defective and already cracked windshield. subaru is aware of their windshield issue but there is no recall as of yet.

Rear gate door would not open whether using keyless fob, rear gate door button or dash button. had to have car battery disconnected for a short period of time and then reconnected it to get the rear gate door to work.

Windshield cracked ,bottom center up about 15" circle .vehicle parked .no stone mark or star mark. looks like factory defect. i've heard of others doing same.

I have experienced 2 cracks in my windshield in the 1st 10 months of ownership. both instances occurred while i was driving on a highway. i heard a loud noise and later noticed that a crack appeared on my windshield. in our previous 30 years of driving, neither my wife nor i have experienced any windshield cracks and we believe that the windshield provided with our 2019 subaru forester (purchased new) is defective.

A month after first windshield crack replacement, which subaru covered as a gesture of “good will” without acknowledging the obvious issue, my second windshield cracked. this time i was not even driving. car was parked in temperate san francisco parking lot. the crack was exactly the same a first one (some odds i have to be at fault for two invisible impact points in the same exact area, i should probably buy a lottery ticket!). no impact point (except to drag a ball point pen up the line and stick it into the same space that the first spot stuck). crack straight up from defroster in middle of windshield and curved toward the passenger side. brought it in to the same service manager who said there is obviously an issue with the seam or the glass. miraculously, his statement was not sent to corporate and he no longer worked there when i called to follow-up on why i hadn’t heard back. i have pictures of both and they are the same. ironically, after bringing it back in for a diagnostic look by another manager, my windshield was actually hit by a rock two days later. this impact looks nothing like the other two. it actually has a point or origin with the spider effect one expects from a rock hitting the windshield.

Went over a set of train tracks and the next day my windshield was cracked. replaced winshield

Husband was driving home after graveyard work shift, with no other cars on the highway, when he heard a crack. he noticed a crack coming from under the windshield wipers in the middle of the front windshield, closer to the driver side. he did have the defroster on. the next day the crack had spread and 2 more cracks appeared on the windshield. we called the dealer and notified them and they said warranty does not cover that since we didn't purchase additional warranty, and it is not a factory defect that they are aware of. it is a new 2019 subaru forester.
