Drivers side headlight failed. Bought replacement HID bulb and still doesn’t work. Secondary ballast must have failed. This is not supposed to happen on a Jeep 4 years old

Excess Oil Consumption without alert

Coolant temperature shoots up (hot) for 5 -30 seconds then engine stalls. can't restart or stalls in the middle of driving. has happened stationery, in motion, turning, freeway and city streets. also can has happened all 4 seasons: fall,, spring, summer and winter. has been happening for 2 years and no dealership can find out what's wrong.

Back up camera does not work screen keeps going black with message service not available. been over a week since last worked. been going on and off since bought this car. not being able to see is safety

The front stabilizer bar end links had to be replaced after 25000 miles. this vehicle is about 2.5 years old. the work order says replace front sway bar links. isn't that a bit early to be replacing links like this. the car is a daily drive and does not go off road for anything. the car was making a rattling noise when i brought it in for service.

Ever since i have owned this vehicle from march 2018 when driving (in motion) my emergency brake will come on and shut me down, i have had enough! yesterday 5/4/2021 i was almost hit by a semi because of this. jeep has not acknowledged this issue. car has been brought in to dealer multiple times but i keep being told they cannot recreate the issue ( as it is sparatic).

I bought my jeep brand new with zero miles in 2018 and have been having problems with my back up camera since then. my back up camera for my jeep randomly and continuously goes black. this can last a day or up to a week i am without a back up camera. jeep has replaced the radio twice and have replace the camera itself once. i’ve taken my car to get service for back up camera to jeep multiple times. the last time i was at jeep they replaced my radio and it hasn’t been a month yet and my back up camera is not working the screen is black. today is monday, may 3 and i have been without a back up camera since friday april 30th. i do not feel safe driving this car.i have video proof every time the backup camera goes out but i’ve attached a picture of the black screen.

Since i bought the car is having problem with the oil i sent to the place where i bought they said is all cars 2018 jeep compass having a problem with the oil need to be change every 1000 mile (it does it couple of times) when i drive the car on highways or on the road car began to slow down in its own, then i have manually restart the vehicle after a few minutes, starts normally

When my vehicle hits 47 mph it starts making a very loud humming noise coming from the engine area. the noise continues to be persistent until i slow down to less than 30 mph. i have taken it to dealership but jeep doesn’t know how to fix it. they say they have been working on a software update since early 2018. i’m not sure if it’s damaging my vehicle but it is extremely loud.

Oil burns through oil excessively, 2,900 miles after oil change, every oil change the vehicle starts alarming oil pressure low and will just shut off in the middle of driving. i’ve almost got into multiple accidents due to this. it’s dangerous, no warning except the alarm which comes on as the vehicle shuts off

I have a 2018 jeep compass latitude and on numerous occasions have had the car stall at red lights when shutting off from braking, when releasing my foot from the brake the car failed to accelerate with other vehicles behind me. in these instances i have had to put my car in park and then power it off and restart it as the quickest fix. this has also happened to me in drive thrus while stopping to pay and at stop signs, all doing the same thing after braking and the automatic start/stop engaging. the other issue i have had has occured while driving down the road/highway. this has happened to me three times now. in one instance i was going 30 mph and my car just stopped accelerating and the power stirring no longer would work, the screen displayed a message saying to put my vehicle in park and that my vehicle needed to be started before it could be shifted and the d shown on my dash was blinking. when the car started to slow i tried to pull over, but my power stirring wouldn't work and i was froced to stay in the middle of the road. another time i was truning a corner at a red light and in the process of the turn going around 15 mph my car dash showed the same message and performed the same way with no power stirring. the third time i was going 55 mph down a highway and the car did the same thing. in each of these instances i put my car in park, pressed the break and the start button and the car did not start, on the second time it did not start as well and sounded as if my car was not going to start at all and stalled like the battery was dead, which it clearly was not. eventually the car starts and i could then shift to drive and proceed as normal. this is not okay though, and extremely dangerous. my car is not very old and does not have a lot of miles on it at the times these occured i was at 31,000- 36,000 miles.

On n/b i5 between albany and salem oregon, traveling with the cruise control set at 73mph, the vehicle began abruptly braking on it's own. in a matter of seconds the vehicle went from 73mph to approximately 45mph, and hard/fast enough to lock the seat belt. the vehicle was then pulled off the highway, turned back on/off again, and driven to the destination without issues. luckily the incident happened at about 430am and there was no traffic. had there been traffic a collision would've been imminent and unavoidable.

This vehicle has been nothing but problems since i've made the purchase. the vehicle randomly jerks. i maintain the vehicle regularly it constantly shows that an oil change is needed. now the check engine light comes on and the vehicle wont drive over 20-30 mph. i have to completely turn the car off then restart it for it work. the jerking of the vehicle is enough to push you forward with force. i've been to jeep and have yet to have the issue resolved. this is so unsafe because it happens in the middle of driving its to the point i'm afraid to take the expressway in fear ill get in a accident.

My car flashed a warning to "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" and car shut off automatically while i was driving on a city street! there is a powertrain control module recall for this make and model but mine wasn't included, i guess. a car going down the street and suddenly coming to a complete, uninitiated stop is extremely scary and dangerous. i would think if this is happening, then the pcm should be replaced, but the dealership isn't on board with this. they say there is nothing they can do since they can't re-create the error. my simple google search has shown this to be a very common problem with the 2018 jeep compass.

My forward collision warning system gave a false positive while i was driving down a busy road way. it activated the braking system when there were no vehicles in front of me for at least 40 yards and causing a vehicle that was following me to have to break and swerve to miss hitting me. i was on rt 15 in shamokin dam around 12:30 pm going 30 mph

On january 30th, 2021 i was driving on the route 9, i stopped on a red light, when it turned green, i was about to go ahead but my car just shut off, i could not turn it on again, i called a tow, we took it to the dealership and they said i needed to replace the main and aux battery, they charged $555.15 the next day, when i was going to drive the car again, i turned on and several messages poped up on the screen: "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon” “service antilock break system” “4wd unavailable” “service break system” after all those messages the car shut off. i called the tow, we went to the dealership again and they told me the problem was a wire connection. after that i drove the car normally but on april 10th, 2021 i tried to take my car and i had the same problem, same messages, i called the tow and we went to the dealership again. i am afraid of my safety and others while i am driving, the dealership does not give more information about it, they do not fix the problem, and i think an investigation should be conducted immediately to know if the car must be recall.

The vehicle was stopped at a traffic light and the start/stop feature was engaged. when my foot was taken off the brake, the vehicle would not restart like it was supposed to. i put it in park and tried to restart it and it would not restart. the battery was not dead as the lights were working as well as many warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. this is the third time in three years that this vehicle will go to the dealership for a similar issue. the diagnoses seems to be different each time, but ultimately i take it in for the same issue and it still has not been fixed. this is a safety issue that left me stranded in the middle of four lane highway. the last time it happened the vehicle went into limp mode on the interstate. eventually this is going to cause a major accident and could possibly kill me or my family. it’s happened twice in start/stop mode at a stop light and once in motion on the interstate at 70mph.

Car suddenly shut down on me automatically while pulling onto highways at 60mph it engaged parking brake and displayed a message on screen that stated "place shifter into park and restart". i headed for the dealership instantly. after oil consumption test it was determined that the engine would be replaced. engine was replace mid november 2020. not even 3000 miles on the new engine it once agian stalled out and engaged parking brake. oil is not low. "check engine light" is on and car bogs down when accelerated. can not drive in normal traffic. almost like transmission is going. i have two children under 2yrs old an its our only car! i expressed my concerns about the saftey of the jeep and it definitely is not 5here at all! my wife and i do not trust driving this vehicle one more mile.

I had problems with my car when it was jerking while i was driving. finally the shop found the problem valve sticking. they replace it.

Vehicle only had 25000 miles and had electric issues, acceleration issues, stop and go would stall in the middle of driving putting me and my child in danger. only going a high of 50 on the freeway then slowing. this has happened multiple times, plus replacing 2 batteries a year since having the car. i have sent information to corporate. items have clearly been documented but nothing done to solve the issue that continues.

These engine is using up all the oil every 1000 miles

Turning right onto a street and my car completely shut off - i had to stop completely and cut it back on then my low oil pressure like came on. once we got the vehicle home and checked the oil we realized it was very dangerously low and this was in between 5,000 mile oil changes ... we had to add oil to get it to the mechanic shop just to get the car looked at. this has happened again since and i have taken it to the dealership

Alignment went out on camber, no factory adjustment is available. the choice is wear tires uneven and risk a blow out or put in after market adjustments. alignment is a normal part of the maintenance of the vehicle, not making the adjustments available is wrong and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive without greater cost to the consumer.

I have had this problem for close to a year and i have brought it to the dealer service department. each time when i'm called to pick up the car and am told that the problem has been solved/repaired, i drive a few blocks and the "check engine" light comes on. simultaneously the stop/start feature conks out. i believe the problem is dangerous in that i don't know if there truly is a problem with the engine or is it just a faulty light. the start/stop feature doesn't alarm me as much, but it adds to the complexity of the engine issue.

Car dies while driving for no reason. intermittently. transmission intermittently jerks into gear. instrument panel intermittently does not come on until restart. key fobs (main fob and spare) intermittently do not function. (batteries are not the issue)

The vehicle dashboard lights will all start to flash, cannot accelerate car, causing me to pull over as best i can. this has happened multiple times. i was told by a mechanic that these cars are known for eating up oil at an alarming rate. the problem is temporarily fixed by adding a quart of engine oil. this occurs at least once a month and is absolutely terrifying because there is no warning. there is no “low oil” light that comes on. i have young kids and i feel stuck with this lemon. i also hear a loud rattling coming from the front passenger side, under the hood but cannot see anything. i have already had to replace the battery and was told that due to something electrical, it caused my battery to completely die. this car is extremely unreliable and unsafe.

The vehicle will randomly shut down while driving. interior electrical stops working first. this has happened on a highway and on a town side street. the strut and sway bar linkage have gone bad and need to be replaced.

Jeep has stopped cold for twice in the past week while in drive. transmission light came on the second time. i am at 76,000 miles the transmission should not be going out yet.

For months my jeep has had issues. all the dash lights will light up warning me of issues. the jeep has stopped dead while driving and no warning . there are times i start the jeep an lights come so i turn ot off and restart and the lights go away. other times i will be driving and the lights come on. i have replaced both batteries, a plug under the hood, and the pcm module was repaired by a dealership. today i was driving an all lights came on, the jeep shit off, and it took almost 20 minutes before the jeep would start. i had it put on a diagnostic machine today and they suggested take back to the dealership due to codes. these are the codes c2502, p2504, amd p2af5. i was told i no lonher am covered under warrenty however this has been ongoing and its a 2018 jeep.

Hand brake, part # 6mf41lxh-aa, switch br 08058060, due to vehicle design and being acceptable to underneath rain water, puddles, slusshes, but no high waters or floods, when engaged in park will not disengage,and not movable, and must be transported to be factory or dealer repaired/ replaceed at a high owner expense plus the inconvience of not having use of the jeep.

Car needed a new engine about 2 months ago for burning oil. during this time i stalled on a busy road and someone almost hit me. last week i was in florida and my car would not start, it then started smoking underneath and a small fire was started. the car was towed to chrysler dealership and is currently still there with an chrysler engineer coming to inspect what happened. i have attached a copy of the text message exchange with chrysler dealership in florida to describe the issue. the what sounds like an electrical fire occurred on 2/6/21. the engine was replaced about 2 months ago. this car is extremely unsafe.

During acceleration and deceleration (mostly on inclines or highway travel), the shifting of the engine/transmission seems to "slam" into different gears. i was told by the dealership they cannot check for issues with the drivetrain if there are no check engine lights on the instrument panel. this happens randomly but is increasing in frequency.

Struts need to be replaced after 10,000 miles, horrible clunking when it hits any little bump, very unnerving, will not buy another one

Vehicle consumes too much oil and will fail to have enough oil pressure and emergency parking brake will engage randomly while driving and car will stop. oil pressure light will engage also and car can fail to start. took to dealership to replace pcv valve since i had similar issue with my 2015 chrysler 200 and the pcv valve was culprit. dealership advised to reconfigure pcm and come back for oil consumption test after 1500 miles. took back to dealership after the 1500 miles on 2-2-21and vehicle was found to be low on oil. dealership just topped it off and said it was "okay, no further work needed at this time". this is a danger and the car is consuming too much oil. the pcv valve or engine needs to be replaced

Multiple times i would try to start the vehicle and the battery would be dead. after jumping the car off it would operate without a problem. i took the car to a repair shop and had it checked but no problems were found. on 02/01/2021 the car again would not start. i had a mechanic jump the car off and i let it idle to build up the battery. after a few minutes there was a noise and then smoke started coming out from under the hood. then fire!

When shifting vehicle will jolt and make a pop noise mostly when driven long miles and then shifting between speed limits , going through roundabouts, stopping and going ,

Merging onto the highway the car suddenly turned off and the parking brake engaged. i was able to put on hazards but my vehicle was stopped on an on ramp and wouldn't start up right away. looking into the problem a little more after i was able to get home, this car is known to have an excessive oil consumption issue. i changed my oil myself 4 months ago and am working from home, there has been minimal driving. when i checked the oil, it barely reached the dipstick. called the dealership and asked what jeep is doing about this problem, the response was to bring my car in for an oil change (which it doesn't need) and to bring the car back every 500 miles for an oil consumption test. that is all jeep is doing about this problem. there is no warning that your oil is low, your car will just turn off in the middle of driving it. extremely terrifying.

While driving 80 down the freeway with cruise control on, when cruise control was turned off, it then shut off my power steering and stability control

Car stalled going down the freeway without warning, taken to dealership and was told low on oil, oil changed and no word of oil consumption problem, asked and got an oil consumption test at dealer to which they said 1 quart per 2000 miles is normal. had independent oil consumption test done at masons automotive and the car is burning 1 quart of oil every 747 miles. now a recall to reprogram the computer. the car is also on its 3rd set of batteries due to battery failure, both batteries had failed leaving us stranded as the batteries fail instantly. drove the car and parked it, came back little later and the car won’t start all warning and error lights start flashing and can’t stop them, had to tow the car to the dealer

My 2018 jeep compass has had both key fobs die within 2 years of purchase of the vehicle. the most concerning thing is that my vehicle will start and i can drive and then my car will say “key fob not detected” and i can no longer drive my vehicle. this is a great feature if someone where trying to drive away with my car, however i am driving my car and i have they keys inside. this happens more frequently in the winter months than the summer. it appears as though the winter cold causes the battery of the key fob to drain or not work properly. my car will not start or unlock, then once i am able to unlock the vehicle it has a difficult time detecting the key fob (even when following instruction manual shot a dead fob). the vehicle will eventually detect the fob and start. then on my drive the key fob needs to be on the dash next to the start engine button so i can drive and even then it can result in not being detected and stalling the vehicle. i find this a very concerning issue.

I started my car like normal and reversed and drove forward down street. i noticed the car kept making jolting motions. i came to a stop sign and as i began to take off and was in the roadway the parking brake engaged and the brake and gas pedals locked up and the car slowly came to a stop. i put the car in park and tried to disengage the parking brake. it turned off but the brake and gas pedals were still jammed. i turned the car off and let it sit for a minute and pressed the power button to try and restart the car. it started making a noise as if the battery was dead and shut back off. i let it sit for a bit longer and tried again. this time it did the same thing but eventually turned on. i then put the car in drive and proceeded to press on the gas to see if it would move forward. it did but happened again at the next intersection i had to stop at. every time this would occur it would nudge forward just enough for me to be in the intersection and it would take a couple tries to get the car to restart in order to move. this problem continued and finally a light popped up that said "oil pressure low" so i checked the oil and it was just about empty. i had just had the oil the oil changed a couple weeks before so the oil should not have been anywhere near empty. i replaced the oil and the problem stopped. i have been making sure to check oil daily and replace as needed but now the car is jittery at times.

Driving at night the car stalled out with no warning light or anything just completely shut off turned it back on then did it again and again luckily i was able to get home cause i wasn’t very far then the next day took it to the dealership. i was told that the car has an issue with oil consumption but i had done an oil change not even 2000 miles ago and i couldn’t believe how there was no warning i was lucky it was at night and there was nobody around driving behind me and now i’m waiting 1500 miles to get it checked out again and if it does it again they said i’ll get a new engine i hope this issue gets resolved can’t believe the quality of these cars is so bad

Driver side wiper blade fell off while driving in a snow storm, resulting in wiper arm smacking back against windshield and cracking glass. had to get windshield replaced and new wiper blades. very dangerous. professionally installed replacement blade also fell off during use during rain storm on christmas eve, leaving me stranded on side of highway. why is this not included in recall with 2019 /20 models? very very dangerous.

Stop at a stop sign. i went to proceed and the engine turned off. took about 2-3 mins to get it to restart. the stop/start indicator displayed for service on the screen and a yellow light with an a popped on and then went off.

At random once the vehicle is cranked the odometer will begin blinking and not stop until turned off. our car has been reset twice and it is only temporary. was told that it was a motherboard that was 800$ to replace but if clearing it works they would clear it until it became an issue. well to me its an issue on a two year old car that the motherboard to the car isn't working properly.

Pcv valve is failing. car is burning oil and causing low oil pressure. car will state low oil pressure with the light coming up on the dash for low oil pressure notification. car will power down and engage parking brake and die. this happens while car is driving. car takes multiple times to start back up because does not have enough oil. had similiar diagnosed issue covered by chrysler in another car that was purchased. same symptoms and it was pcv valve failure. this is dangerous. chrysler fiat should issue recall

Auxiliary battery in this causing major other issues within the car. causing power to transmission to be delay and resulting in both your check engine and check transmission lights to be activated.

Vehicle randomly overheats then gets back to normal. variable valve actuator failed. and also causing multiple cylinder misfire. swishing noise occurs as well.

While driving at approx 30mph the vehicle stalls and message center reads "to shift, vehicle must be stopped" then states "shift to p then desired gear. the restart is rough. vehicle is 2.5yrs old with 45.5k miles.

Car burning excessive amounts of oil when light comes on its too light the oil is completely empty. causing the car to stall while driving on a city street and emergency lights to come on.

1) 10/29/2020 i was driving on the highway with the cruse control on when the car made a loud thump, jumped out cruse control, shut off, check engine light came on. after sitting for a bit, car started but would not go over 25 mpr back to town. at the signal light, when stopped, the car started to go in reverse. was able to stop it again, and got it to dealership. they said it needed a computer update. 2) 12/06/2020 1 month later, driving on the highway home from work at night, car did it again, check engine light came on. i was able to get the car to the side of the road. after sitting, it started, but would not run over 25 mpr. and this time at signal light stopped, the car surged forward and almost hit the car in front. the car is going back to the dealership asap. this car is very dangerous

The service airbag system warning light keeps illuminating. it will stay on for about 30 seconds and then turn off. i have brought the jeep to the dealership for this issue 5 times. they cannot find the problem. they have replaced the wiring harness and then occupant restraint controller. the airbag light still comes on and off. jeep has done nothing to rectify the situation, they have told me that i simply have to deal with it. i have filed for arbitration and they have claimed that it is not a safety issue. all times that the airbag light has come on, the vehicle has been in motion. it has happened in the city, it has happened on the highway, it has happened at high speeds and very low speeds. it happens when going straight, turning, it really has no preference.

My vehicle is stalling and the oil on the vehicle is been consume rapidly i took my car and told the dealer that this is not normal they asked me to please take it every time the engile oil light will come on which it's very often. engine oil monitors fail to engage prior to engine stalling- i was getting on the highway when my car started stalling luckly no one was behind me and i reached out to the dealer at chrysler in elgin il - they had me drop my vehicle and offer me a rental. claiming that they will contact chrysler - jeep to get my engine replace or fixed the issue since they mention. i was told that there a numerous customer with the same issue vehicle at risk of sudden engine stalling without warning,” the jeep compass class action lawsuit alleges. but today i was notify to return the rental back and that i must drive my car and take it to the dealer once i reach 1,000 miles i talk to rachel the assistant manager to provide me with the ref# number and proof that she contacted jeep and she decline stating she didnt get one. -- i on the other hand went online and file a complain with jeep corporate office online and received a ref # right away.. I was stopped at a red light, lght turned green and went to press the gas to go thru the light but car stalled and brake light came on. car behind me almost ran into me and had to swerve to miss me. i had to turn the entire car off at the light, push the emergency brake system a few times until tge light went off before i could proceed through the light. this happened 6-7 additional times before i took it back to the dealership. the dealorship serviced the car 1 week prior and said noting was found on the diagnostic test. car has stopped, just quit while driving and braking system light comes on. it happens when parked and at a red light or trying to move forward or while driving. very scary.

2018 jeep compass with around 40,000 miles will shut off at highway speeds, normal driving speeds 30-70 mph, leaving the power steering, electrical, and engine disabled until the car is parked, power is off for a few minutes then the car will turn back on. this has happened about a dozen times to this vehicle in the last few weeks.

This car goes through a lot of oil. it stalls when the oil light is on.

This is a two-year-old car requiring strut replacement. never driven off-road and never driven on a flat tire.

After coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, i started to turn left and my emergency break engaged, car stalled, would not start, advisers me to put in park and hit start/stop button. i did so and then the brake pedal had pressure beneath it where i could not brake and began to roll back nearly hitting car behind me. for 5-10 minutes car was stalled in the middle of the roa. turned car completely off and engine light and red lighting lights came on. after my toole attempts to restart car and disengage emergency brake, car started and could drive myself back home. i’m hesistant to even take the car in, because i’ve read of multiple reports of this occurring to other drivers while at highway speeds. i don’t feel safe with the car locking up and failing to where i can even brake or pull to the side of the road.

Since the moment i bought it i complained with the dealer about vibration while driving getting worst between 60-80 miles per hour. i balanced, aligned, rotated and as an ultimate resource i changed the set of tires and mopar nor autonation take responsibility or help solve my issue that still continues saying the vibration is there but they dont know the reason, and is getting worst every day, it is becoming dangerous.

Have had two issues and dealers can not find anything wrong. a few months after i had it, i had to have it towed to shop , to be told there is nothing wrong (no codes), now frequently it looses power like it wants to stall out. i have to pull over shut the car off and restart it. again taken to shop to be told they can not find anything wrong (no codes). this has happened several times and now they are telling me because of recent events its bad gas. i have a stick shift, so you can feel the power loss in first and switching to second. since i dont want to keep going, i pull over as soon as i can and shut the engine off. after a second, i restart and everything runs fine. again, because its not throwing any codes, the dealership/service can find anything wrong. it doesnt matter if its full tank of gas or almost empty. note: if it stalls as im driving there is a huge potential for an accident. i never thought that buying a new car, i would have to deal with these issues.

Today while driving on the highway, my car started to jerk which then the check engine light popped up with the transmission light saying it needed to be serviced. once that appeared in the middle of me driving on the highway my car failed to accelerate. it stalled on me in the middle of the highway where everyone is driving 65 mph and it gave me no time to move over to the side of the road. i immediately turned my emergency lights on. once the car came to a complete stop it jerked and the power on the car went off, so it put it on emergency brakes and said to step on brake and push start. i turned the car completely off and turned it back on, so i began to drive again with caution but the check engine light was still there. i drove for a mile and the transmission light message popped up again, which then cause my vehicle to jerk and stall again in the middle of driving. it put it on emergency brake but this time i was able to move to the side of the road. i let the car cool down so i turned it completely off again. this is not the first this has happened. its very dangerous and unacceptable. i have taken it to the dealership several times and the mechanics have no idea what it is. i need to get this fixed because its not safe for me or others driving around me. i do not feel safe in this car because random things appear and cause the car to fail while in driving. there was no message or warning about anything.

The jeep sat for four to five weeks during the covid-19 shut down. in april we started to drive the vehicle with only 10,870 miles on it and discovered serious pulsating when braking in the steering wheel and dangerous vibration in the braking altogether. livonia chrysler jeep service person drove the jeep and determined warped rotors.would not repair under warranty. car sits month after month unable to drive while paying lease payments on the car.took the car to snethcamp today 10-12-20 for an appointment set up by kris in jeep customer care. dealership will not look at the jeep unless i agree to a $65.00 inspection fee. i refuse to pay anything for a defective lease vehicle repair. the jeep is still at the dealership and so far no resolution through customer care at fca has occurred. no issues with the brakes occurred before the vehicle sat for approx. 4 weeks. why in the world would warped rotors due to non use of the vehicle be the responsibility of the person leasing the vehicle with only 10,870 mile on it?so far i have made 7 payments and insurance costs per month on a vehicle for 7 months that cannot be driven due to inferior manufacturer parts. help!!!!

I took in my vehicle about a month ago to get a fix on a service engine light issue. it seemed to be a problem when i had my ac on and the transmission light and service engine light would turn on. i wouldn’t be able to accelerate and it would make a jerking movement when i put my car into drive. i took my vehicle in about a month ago and they said that the problem had been fixed. well today i get in my car to drive on the highway in the dmv and as i’m leaving the street i live on my car stops with no warning. i let it rest for a few minutes and then turn it on again; it hesitates to turn on making a weird sound then turns on about 10 seconds later. i put it in drive and it starts to drive but then jerks and completely stops. i bought this car in the beginning of the year and if i knew i would have all these issues with it and be fearful that i could’ve gotten into a crash or worse on the highway- i would not have bought it!

2018 jeep compass stalls in the middle of busy highways. extremely unsafe. jeep says engine burns oil too fast. many times there is not even a warning light. has happened since i bought the car. happens every 1000-2000 miles. jeep said it’s a safety feature and to just add oil. that did not fix the problem and is not a solution to this dangerous engine that many other people are experiencing. there needs to be a recall before someone gets killed.

Car struggles to start, car gas pedal acts like it revs forward as if im pushing the gas, car has gone through 2 batteirs and does not turn on. it is currently in the shop this has happened plenty of times. back up camera sometimes does not turn on, and automatic stop shuts down.

The system that automatically turns off the car at stops works intermittently. mostly does not work. my display for the radio and apps and so forth does not work at times and goes all black. i had it taken in and they said there was a battery that supplies power and they replaced it. it has only been a few weeks later and it is doing the same thing again. i told the service center it was not fixed and have still not heard back from them. they say this is a common issue with it. when the screen goes black i cannot make any adjustments to radio, maps, air for heat and cool and the back up camera is unavailable. is this a common issue and if so why? is there a fix for this?

While driving, entertainment display cuts out without any input by user. usually ends up coming back on minutes later. while vehicle is off and stationary, car does not register lock button being pressed on inside of the vehicle or from the key fob. if it does, there is always one door that stays unlocked.

The passenger side strut has already broken, the vehicle is under 20,000 miles. also the vehicle has already had multiple repairs under warranty for faulty backup camera and computer in the car. when operating the vehicle, even on smoothly paved roads, the strut rattled and makes noise. the car has not even had its first inspection yet and there is a possibility that it may not pass with this issue. the strut gets worse over time.

When driving down the road if i make a complete stop the autostp engages will not disengage until jeep is in park and turned off and on. the emergency brake will also randomly engage. cause me not to be able to move. also have had times were the brake pedal is stiff and cant start the jeep.

When the vehicle is parked after being in motion, i often get an error message for the transmission followed by a check engine light. when this happens, the vehicle has a hard time shifting. by this, i mean that whenever i shift into another gear the vehicle stalls then has an abrupt shift that moves the entire vehicle. if the vehicle is not turned off for a minimum of 30minutes, the vehicle will not exceeds speeds of 35 mph. the vehicle also continues to make a noise that sounds like it is being forced into motion.

I believed i had locked my doors on 2 occasions using my electronic key fob. the car beeped and lights flashed indicating that the doors were locked. twice after thinking doors were locked i was robbed of approximately 55.00 hidden in my glove box and center console. after 2nd time, upon investigation of the locking procedure i was able to determine that all doors except driver's would lock but not driver's even though upon walking away the indicators showed that all doors had locked. even when in car hitting the lock button on inside of door locked all doors but driver's. i had to use key on outside to finally lock door and manually move button on inside of door to get it to lock. i believe this to be a safety issue because believing vehicle is locked when in fact it is not allows for assault or car jacking of me while stopped. it has already cost me money and time and it makes the door unsafe if ever hit on the side where that door is located because of less strength in the door. car under warranty but upon fixing it dealer states that window motor for that door also needs attention but no parts available at this time. i will be leaving on a 500 mi. trip tomorrow without the ability to lower my window another possible safety issue.

Vehicle has randomly shuts down while driving street or highway. service transmission light comes on while driving and car decelerates which is extremely dangerous at highway speeds. back up camera instrument panel intermittently does not work. i am sure there is more but at this time this is all i can think about as my daughter, son-in-law and grandbabies are stuck on the side of the road 250 miles from home. most recent occurrence today with transmission light.

I bought a 2018 jeep compass in 2019 it had about 10 thousand miles on it. 4 months later i’m heading to work and car stalls out. i started back up and made it to my local garage they checked the oil and there was not a drop of oil in it. they said it was there fault they never put oil in when i purchased. 4 months later completely out of oil again. and here we are today 2 months after the last service call my is going threw almost an entire tank of oil every 2 months. and my local dealership where i purchased the car keeps making me do oil consumption test...and my car has completely ran out of oil 3 times and i have had 2000 miles more to go before i needed an oil change. i actually run out of oil in my way before i need an oil change. i have complained to the jeep corporation several times in the last year and they will do nothing to fix.

This vehicle has a known oil consumption problem yet chrysler will not recall or repair it. there is no warning light for low oil and the car will just suddenly loose power. dealership states you have to bring in your car every 1000 miles for an oil consumption test. problem started within 6 months of leasing vehicle with less than 5000 miles on it. problem has been ongoing every few months despite getting regular oil changes. it has happened when driving vehicle (sudden loss of power) or when starting up car after being parked. has been serviced at least 6 times in less than 2 years.

Issue is what seems to be with the front suspension and it’s alignment. i’m pretty sure there’s not anything broken, in fact i’m actually baffled unless it is a possible “camber” issue/setting. more specific: negative camber, causing both tires to bald on the inside, evenly if that makes sense. (but i’m not going to act like i know my stuff, cause it’s not my profession) see attached below...also spoke with service supervisor mentioned (over phone), he says a potential toe out, in which is also on attached sheet. if needed i could send the photos of the tires wear pattern. car mileage (43k) vehicle does not pull, vehicle was not in motion, & we've only had the vehicle a little over a year. read about other recalls of same make/year thus reason behind complaint. there in the attachment, looks a little over-emphasized, however, issue is this bad.

On the way home my rear view camera stopped working. i couldn't fix and the reason is unknown on how it stopped. it only shows a black screen.

Initially service transmission message, appears on the car when it was turn without moving for more than 10 minutes, after that if there was an intention of changing the gear of the car (drive or reverse) the complete cars move like a mayor part was broken. after turning on the car and turning off the car 2 times the message disappear and the car can start moving freely. the car was taken to service and the dealer service explain that it was an incorrect plug. weeks later the event was repeated but now running at a speed of 60 miles per hour. when the message appears while running the car instantly reduce the speed, which is very danger at this speed, and when pressing the accelerator the engine does not respond and can not exceed 30 miles per hour. this has happened multiples times, and it has been “corrected” in different ways by the dealership, changing battery and correcting misplaced cables, now it happens every day. it is important to state that i was able of changing the car at the dealership but the same error happens on the new car.

The engine burns an excessive amount of oil and then stalls while running - this is a huge safety issue. the first time this happened no oil light came on and it only flashed a few times on the second instance. only 43000 miles on the engine an still under warranty but jeep is refusing to address this issue. only 3000 miles since last oil change and had to bring to dealership because of stalling and was told it needed oil (3+ quarts). this is a know issue to jeep and they are putting people's lives at risk. jeep is claiming that this is normal. they refuse to address because the issue is big and they refuse to pay to fix this. this happened to my daughter several times when driving. the dealer said it is a know issue and jeep is saying not covered under warranty. they charged us $185 today and said we need to check oil at ever fill up.

Battery died and requires jump starting every time i turn the vehicle off. it took an hour to start my vehicle today. it is believed to be a voltage regulator issue just like other models of this vehicle but my vin says it isn't eligible for the recall.

My traction control makes a loud noise, after having it back to the garage 3 times i have been given 3 choices. 1 listen to the noise, turn up my radio or 3 turn off the traction control. jeep has no answer or fix for the noise. i find it troubling that they would suggest turning up the radio which to me causes a safety issue or to turn off the traction control which seems to me was put on there as a safety feature. this has been an ongoing problem since i have owned this vehicle.

Was driving on the highway 65 miles an hour car completely shut down emergency brake was engaged. message popped up on dash stated to shift car in to park and restart. i went from 65 miles an hour to the side of the road in the matter of seconds a semi almost crashing into me. pulled over restarted the car, started driving to the dealership when it happened to me again on the way. left car at dealership was told the next day i needed to purchase an oil change. dealership said there was no oil on the dipstick and no other problems were found. i am 1000 miles away from an oil change. the dealership said that these cars consume oil excessive amounts that means 5 quarts of oil has been consumed in between my oil changes. i do not trust driving this car myself or with my family. i had no indication or warning that oil levels were even low. want me to get an oil change and do a 500 mile check for 3000 miles i do not trust driving this car for even 5 miles. jeep nor dealership will not do anything else until he consumption test is complete. i have also read other complaints stating they are getting replacement engines put in and they are the same engines with no problems fixed.

The 2.4 l engine in this car has oil consumption issue.fca negated all prior tests they did and say i must start over and test every 1500 miles,not every 2000. they dont want to replace the lousy engines. car shuts off on road when oil gets too low.very dangerous! they say just have it towed to dealership when engine dies. card has been towed there 3 times so far for malfunctions in engine.they want to put a lock on oil filter and demand only they do oil changes or consumer is responsible for new engine. any recourse?

Will not start when pressing the "start engine" button it was stationary. it also completely stops and locks into place then goes automatically into emergency brake when turning or coming to a stop. *tr

My wife and her aunt were driving at 70-75, then it felt like when a governor kicks on. if that makes sense. at the same time the check engine light came on. since i was already going that fast i couldn’t really tell, but i thought it felt like i couldn’t accelerate. then after they stop for groceries and began driving again they couldn’t get it to go over 30. drove on the shoulder to the next exit. it felt like it wouldn’t shift out of first gear to accelerate. i even tried sport mode to manually do it & it still wouldn’t. then they pulled over and let cool briefly it was working again. when my wife finally made it home i plugged in my portable code reader to see what tripped the service engine light and the code was for transmission control module. i bought this vehicle last year with 5000 miles on it, currently it has 25,000. this is absolutely ridiculous!! and then reading the other issues people are having this vehicle sounds like a death trap waiting to happen! my family and friends will never purchase dodge products again, junk. *tr

My 2018 jeep compass started randomly overheating. we were stranded for over 5 hours in the middle of nowhere. i had the engine thermostat replaced, as the mechanic thought that was the problem. it seemed to work and we were in our way. about 2 miles from our destination it started overheating again. there was no steam, no excess sound from the engine, no nothing. i took the vehicle into another mechanic and had a full diagnostic ran, only to come back with nothing. we are currently driving through the desert with the heat on because anytime you turn on the ac the engine starts to overheat, and it is not even 80° outside. i looked it up in the seems to be a fairly common problem for the jeep compass. we have a long way to go on our trip still. this is extremely concerning considering the age and mileage of the vehicle.

The jeep has gone into limp mode twice. first time was almost rear ended. jeep was towed to dealership same day. repaired once advised there was a mother board issue. the second time dealer unable to replicate no repair made. turn started to get stuck around the same time. turn signal keeps getting stuck has been sent to dealer several times issue still not repaired. *tr

While driving my jeep compass, the engine will randomly shut down/stall. the last incident occurred while crossing railroad tracks. the engine shuts down due to low engine pressure as a safety feature to prevent damage to the engine (information from the dealership). however, the engine shutting down/stalling is actually creating a hazard. this has occurred on three separate occasions and the vehicle is a 2018 (2 times while on multi lane highways and 1 time whole crossing railroad tracks). the dealer solution is that the oil needs to be checked prior to every operation to ensure it is within operating levels which is completely unacceptable. the dealership also stated that burning 1 quart of oil / 4000 miles is within tolerance for the engine in the vehicle. also unacceptable. i'm just lucky i wasn't transporting children in the vehicle during any of the incidents (part of my job to transport children using my personal vehicle). currently jeep provides no remedy for the issue other than to constantly check the oil. my concern is what will their response be when someone stalls on a railroad track with an oncoming train?

Car has stalled while driving. no transmission fluid and just bought from dealer less than 600 miles ago. engine runs hot to the point vehicle stops while driving. electrical system malfunctions and windows go up and down. burning through coolant and transmission fluid as well as oil. car overheats upon any acceleration and shuts off. all occur while in motion. vehicle electrical system and lights too bright at night and cannot see you back up while parked or in motion. cannot dim. vehicle gear shift is rough in and out of gear (in drive to parked). could not park when stalled.

The fuel hand is inaccurate i had a half a tank of gas started it and it randomly said i had 423 miles to e which it has never said not even with a full tank of gas ever since then it’s like it drinks the gas it’s supposed to be getting more than 120 miles a tank a gas every two days i have to put gas in it or the gas hand is lying. when driving sometimes it feels like something kicks it in the rear it doesn’t always do that but it’s occasionally and i’m concerned that maybe something is wrong with the transmission there’s only 46,000 miles on it i’ve never had a vehicle that at least once a week it feels like something kicks it or hits it in the rear before it takes off it gets up to 6 or 7 sometimes before it will even change gears when i take it to the garage they say nothing is wrong or they changed the air filter.

I purchased the car brand new. since the beginning it was burning/leaking oil as i was often told, but car shouldn’t do that. yet dealership neither other oil change places never checked my vehicle for additional issues. recently it got very bad and i went to a different dealership and thought maybe there they will check. they did some special procedure and found there is cracks in the engine that are causing the oil issue and may cause vehicle shut down and crash. they said it is manufacturer issue and it was faulty engine put in. my car is just little over 1.5 year old but because i drive a lot unfortunately warranty doesn’t cover it and there is somehow no recall on it. how is it possible there is no recall for such a major issue? ehhh... please feel free to reach out to me or dealership with any additional questions. or i can send diagnosis documents.

I own a manual 2018 jeep compass with around 14,000 miles. this has happened twice now. i noticed, and not sure if it is a coincidence or not, after the car has idled a bit. each time the car makes a terrible rattling noise. the car loses power, has no pick up, goes limp. it is a manual, and when i put it in 1st or 2nd gear, it will not go above 2rpms on the dial. i usually shift when it gets to 3. no warning lights of any kind come on. i managed to get it not to stall on the highway, but both times i have not had to stop at a light or anything. both times i let it sit overnight, and it was fine in the morning. after the first time i took it to the dealership and they found nothing. i have contacted chrysler and have a case number.

I was driving vehicle going 30 mph at an intersection and the car died as i was turning. lucky there was a little room where they were doing construction i was able to get out traffic. the parking brake engaged. i waited like two minutes and release the parking brake to restart the car. car tried to turn over three times, and would not start. waited 5 min and tried to restart car. finally came back on. drove it less than two miles down a city street and it did it again. the last time i was able to get it to restart, the transmission light remained on.

I left my house and drove about a mile down the road. i stopped at a stop sign and as i went to proceed onto an extremely busy road my 2018 jeep compass completely shut down. it wouldn't move and told me to shift gears then press the brake and start button. multiple attempts would not restart the car. even though i put it into park, the d on the shifter was flashing and a message on the dashboard said that it had to be in park to start...even though it was in park. it took between 5-7 minutes to finally start running, but gave no indication of what the issue was, no warning lights or anything. i was able to drive a mile to my destination without any issue, but was momentarily in fear for my life as the engine shut down with no notice. upon further investigation, i immediately made an appointment at the dealership to have it checked out.the man who helped we when i got there said he thought he knew what the issue was. he showed me that there was hardly any oil on the dipstick. i realize i was about 800 miles past the 5000 mile oil change, and they told me that jeep said it was acceptable to burn a quart of oil every 2000 miles. this seems excessive to me and every mechanic that i've talked to. i have read that the engine was designed to shut off when oil is low and chrysler confirmed that. how does this pass testing? there is no warning light at all and chances are that you will die or be seriously injured if your car just shuts off in traffic. i am genuinely concerned for my life and the lives and safety of others while having these faulty vehicles are on the road. there needs to be a recall asap and engines need to be replaced with ones that don't burn through fuel like this. hundreds of people have reported the same issue online. *tr

Car stalled 4 times in the last month while at stop lights. i was stopped at light and when i went to move again the car stalled-all panel lights flashed and car would not turn on again. after multiple attempts the car finally started.  this is just another problem with this vehicle. it's also been in the shop multiple times for drivetrain issues. vehicle is a lemon.

Four different times the car has suddenly shut down while driving in traffic everything shut down and parking brake came on. hard to restart and get parking brake off to get out of the middle of the road and traffic. first time at 11,900 miles.. no warning. oil has been low two of the times when taken to service center but no warning lights came on. happened again at 18,000 & 22,000 miles currently have 23,000 miles. *tr

Purchased 2018 jeep compass trailhawk sport which now as approx. 28,000 miles. at approx. the one-year mark of ownership, the jeep started experiencing significant issues with the auto start/stop feature and back-up camera. with regard to the first, the vehicle will be stopped at a stop sign, intersection, etc. and the engine will turn off (auto start/stop feature), however, the engine will not turn back on at times. this is an intermittent problem and unknown what it resolves to specifically. on occasion when this fault occurs, the vehicle will display the auto start/stop light on the dash with an exclamation point next to it. in the owner's manual it advises the vehicle should be taken to the dealership for diagnostics. owner has taken the vehicle to the dealership on multiple occasions without any explanation or remedy. dealerships have advised they are unable to determine the source of the problem and unable to replicate it. the back-up screen is also an intermittent issue. on occasion it will work whereas other times it will simply display a black/dark screen. the text "check all surroundings" still displays on the black screen. most recently, however, owner observed the screen showing "camera system unavailable" with the black screen. jeep's warranty provider/administrator has been extremely unresponsive in resolving the auto start/stop issue. in many cases, we aren't even receiving acknowledgement of the videos/pictures we are sending in to their email. as of late march, owner is receiving a new back-up camera after having just driven the jeep to a dealer and requesting replacement. owner is consistently being told to take the jeep into a dealership, as the problem occurs, but dealerships cannot figure out the auto start/stop issue. owner is becoming fearful in driving vehicle as it seems unreliable in operating properly.

At the end of february 2020 my 2018 jeep compass engine would seize, while i was driving. it would shut off, and automatically put on the parking brake. i would no longer be able to accelerate, i'd lose power steering, and then it would struggle to restart. this obviously put me at high risk for causing an accident or being involved in a collision. before the engine shut down, i would see "cannot shift while vehicle is in drive" on my dashboard screen. i had it towed to dealership, as i was rightly terrified to drive it, and they said it was a loose electrical shifting wire. they stated that they secured it and that it should be fine. it happened again two days later, this time with no dashboard screen indication, only the d on my gear stick flashed, and i brought it back. upon inspection the dealership said that i was out of oil and this was triggering the engine shut off. i was 800 miles over for an oil change (that i had scheduled but was unable to drive to because of the car malfunctioning) however my car had given me no indication whatsoever that it needed oil. i now must go back to the dealer in 1000 miles for an oil consumption test. dealership predicts i may possibly need a new engine. my car also jerks when i switch gears and at times it struggles to start. even if the engine is replaced there is no guarantee that the car engine won't seize again if it is low on oil, or thinks it is, and i shouldn't have to manually check the oil of a 2018 vehicle that i purchased with the expectation that it was safe and reliable. really disappointed with chrysler. i've owned jeeps in the past that were great and lasted forever. this is really something that chrysler should consider recalling the whole make/model for. i'm afraid to drive anywhere or have other people in my car. my car is a liability not a safe passenger vehicle.

I've been getting this car serviced every 2-3 months for the same issue since i first leased it in july 2018. i've been saying it's a transmission issue, i get ignored. my car has stopped working in the middle of the road and highways for the entirety of my lease, it happened again on 3/1/2020 and the service department finally took it in. after almost a week of not touching it, they finally took a look at it and confirmed that it was the transmission. they now don't know how long it's going to take to fix and they want to charge me out-of-pocket for a rental car to use until they decide to fix it. this was a brand new vehicle that left the lot with 0 miles on it, i had to go through a recall and countless moments where i was scared to drive it, and no one batted an eyelash. this dealership is rude and careless, they just want to make money off of people. i should not be paying for a leased vehicle that is clearly damaged. this last time that it happened, i was going 35mph on a local road and thank goodness there wasn't many drivers around and no accidents occured.

A couple of days during a week's time the engine will shut down while taking my daughter to school in the morning as i was turning onto the main road out of my neighborhood. the engine shut off, the steering became difficult, and the parking brake engaged. a couple days after the second time the oil pressure light came on for a second. i check the oil and it was 3 quarts low. no other warning lights came on. after looking for information on the web i learned the engine was low or out of oil and shutting down is a safety feature as is engaging the emergency brake in traffic. i wasn't due for an oil change for quite some time based on jeep's recommended schedule, but i was forced to do one so they could verify the issue. i am concerned for my safety, my family's, as well as other drivers as i do not know when the car will shut if i don't act like i have my first car from the 1960's and had to check the oil weekly.

We leased a 2018 jeep compass on 02-27-2018 from danbury dodge dealership. we started to have problems in november 2019, only getting 7 miles per gallon, going from heater to ac on its own and loosing entire display screen. tried to get into dealership on many occasions but was told they had no loner so when the display screen was lost, i rented a car and went for service at danbury dodge. within one hour they called me stating that the entire engine had to be replaced. that is a very short time to determine this, vehicle only has 16,000 miles on it. the next week i was informed that it was fixed. when i drove it home, i noticed a sound in the engine and a shuttering that it never had. when my husband got home, he looked under the hood to make sure they had put back anti freeze, which they did not, but also found that they left a 3' tool that was laying across the battery! if this had fallen it would have hit the battery connections and caused a fire. i again went down to the dealership with this new problem and was told that the new engine might need to be replaced. we have done research on the 2018 jeep compasses and found numerous complaints about the safety issues with the engines and electrical problems. these vehicles actually can stop running. this is a huge safety issue on any road, especially on the highway. i requested from the dealership and the jeep corporation to buy back this vehicle due to the now known safety issues. both have refused. i take care of my grandchildren and this represents a huge issue for our family. i can not understand why there is not a recall on these vehicles. i have article upon article stating the engine problems. i am willing to make copies and get them to you. we have to surrender the vehicle and take a hit on the remaining lease payments. i need some help, please!

Engine shuts off while driving. seems to happen just after using brakes for red light or stop sign. when i accelerate after stopping the engine shuts off shortly after. extremely dangerous as it can happen right in the middle of an intersection after stopping for a red light!!!! just started doing this yesterday, and it happened twice. both times on a side street after stopping for a stop sign. i am taking my compass in this morning to the dealership, as i am terrified to drive my jeep :(

I got my oil changed 2/24/2020. i have had the jeep less then three months. there was absolutely no oil on the dipstick. this car burned through 5 quarts of oils in 6,000 miles.

The first time this happened i was on a city street in seattle making a right hand turn and my jeep stalled out. i was unable to move it, no lights came on with any warning before it happened. on the second try the jeep started and i was able to drive the 2 hours home safely. the second time i was on a side road had just left home heading to work. again, no warnings it just stalled out.i started it and continued on. tonight the low oil pressure light flashed quick as i was going up a hill. i decided to google what was happening and found tons of posts with the same issue being caused by no oil. i checked the oil and it was bone dry. i purchased the vehicle brand new 6 months ago and have 3100 miles on it. this is a safety issue.

This has happened three times in the last month; (after doing some online inquiry see other complaints about this same thing happening): after accelerating, when i go to turn my vehicle, my vehicle will automatically shut off and my parking brake turns on. this has happened on major (high traffic) roads each time and presents a huge safety concern.

Multiple times the low oil pressure light flashes. in a few instances the car stalls and doesn’t want to start back up leaving you stuck. luckily we’ve never been hit when this happens. usually happens going up a hill or around a bend. oil level in car is good and changed every 3-5000 miles. it doesn’t matter if the car is fully warmed up or cold engine. doesn’t matter if gas level is at a 1/4 or 3/4 tank. i checked for recalls and there was a recall for this problem in the previous model year but it says it’s not for my vehicle even though it’s the exact same problem. this has happened multiple times with the stalling and probably 25 times the low oil pressure light has flickered on.

While driving the car on the morning of february 16, 2020, my vehicle engine turned off without warning while taking a left turn at approximately 10mph. once the turn was complete and i pressed the pedal to accelerate, there was no response. all electronics were still on, but the speedometer showed 0mph and the engine was not running. i rolled to a stop on the shoulder and pressed the ignition to turn of the electrical systems. when pressing the ignition to restart the vehicle, it struggled to start but was successful. i continued my commute to work. it is easy to understand the risk associated with a total loss of engine power while driving on public streets. especially since the power steering was not functioning either. i still have no indication of what caused the failure and will consult my local jeep dealer.

Starting about 4-5 months ago, when coming to a stop or taking off from a stop (could be a light or stop sign) the parking brake would activate on its own, making the car stall. sometimes i can make it to the side of the road other times it stops in the middle of the road. this would occur about once a month ranging from 5mph to 15mph. started at about 34k miles. takes about 5-10 minutes to get parking brake to go off and get the car running again. now just over 50k miles it has occurred 3 times in the past week. first time was turning left at a major intersection, parking brake activated mid turn and the car stalled, luckily was able to roll to the other side and made it to the shoulder. then it happened the next day coming up to a major intersection as i was slowing down to come to a stop. parking brake activated, car stalled, got a transmission warning then a check engine light. i was stalled at the light for approx. 5 minutes before getting the parking brake to turn off and the car to start. immediately called the dealer (crestview fl doge jeep ram) and was advised to bring it in. dropped the car off that evening. was advised the next day my oil level was low and this caused everything to happen, but they couldn't duplicate the parking brake activating on its own. advised to bring back if it happens again. occurred again driving down a side road at about 20mph 3 days after being at the dealership. car is set to go back to the dealership tomorrow. have also filed a complaint with jeep, currently waiting for a response. i'm scared for my family/myself/others are going to be seriously injured when this occurs at a higher rate of speed. this is my daily driving vehicle and i drive about 30 miles one way to work on major highways.

Air conditioning suddenly starts blowing hot air. does not resolve by turning the car off and on again. resolves on its own after several hours. this has happened at least 4 times.

I have a 2018 jeep compass when i did my oil change on 1/4/2020 i told them my car had stopped on me while i was going 25mph on the road and suddenly stopped. per person that service my car it was due to an oil change, i asked if they can still check the car out. after a week of doing an oil change the car had the same problem when i take it to the dealer they blame it on the car needing an oil change, keep in mind that my next oil change is due until 10,000 i currently have 8,238 miles on the car. champion dealer in the city of downey ca and chrysler seem like they do not want to help me find out what’s wrong on my car. i will provide screenshots of an email i have with chrysler. please advice me on this problem and what do you recommend for me to do. thank you.

My jeep compass turns off while driving. the low oil pressure light comes on and the parking break turns on in the middle of the street, more than 4 times. took my jeep to a dealership, they said don't worry you just need an oil change. i stated that my check oil light did not come on, the engine light did not come on, and the change your oil light did not come on. how am i supposed to know the oil pressure is low? the light only flashes for a second, until the vehicle turns off. the first couple times, i was unaware the light flashed. i was to busy trying to avoid being hit from behind. i had to turn on hazards, figure out the parking break engaged and panic. that is a hazard on the road. i inquired if there was a recall or any injuries or deaths due to the issue. the answer was not yet. the 2.4 burns oil, everyone has this problem. i don't find acceptable. i have to drive this car at least 6 more years. it is not a safe vehicle. the jeep has died backing up in parking lot. the jeep dies during turning both right and light on busy streets. and once, i turned left drove 4 cars length and stopped dead in traffic on a busy street.

Two days in a row the engine shut down less then one mile into my morning commute as i was turning onto the main road out of my development. the engine shut off, the steering became difficult, and the parking brake engaged. no warning lights came on, and nothing indicated why the car was shutting down. when taken into the dealer after the second incident in as many days, i was told the engine was low or out of oil and shutting down is a safety feature as is engaging the emergency brake in traffic. i wasn't due for an oil change for another month based on jeep's recommended schedule, but i was forced to do one so they could verify the issue. i was also told the compass has a new highly efficient engine and these new engines are so efficient they burn/leak oil, and i am to check my oil every 500-1000 miles and always have a quart in the car to top it off. when i asked why there wasn't a dashboard indicator the oil was low i was told the compass does not have such an indicator. i am concerned for my safety, my family's, as well as other drivers as i do not know when the car will shut down again.

This jeep compass has auto start stop-when stopped the car will go into auto stop mode. randomly, when the car is stopped the car will completely lurch and shut down- brakes will lock and the car is inoperable. the dash will say that the emergency brake has been engaged- when in fact the emergency brake has not been touched. the car will sit in the middle of intersections completely locked and shut down for 5-7 minutes. during this time there is no option for the driver- the steering wheel will not work and the car is completely immobile. the car has been brought to the dealership at least 5 times in the past year to address this problem. the dealership has told me about how this engine uses an excessive amount of oil, and have blamed oil being the cause of the problem in multiple cases- despite frequent oil changes and the oil change notification not coming up. on the third time in the dealership, i was told that there was a system upgrade that needed to be conducted. on the 4th time i was told again it was the oil (still no oil light indicator) the 5th time this problem occurred (less than one month after the 4th incident) the dealership stated they could not recreate the problem so there was nothing wrong with it and nothing we could do. this car is extremely dangerous in it's unpredictability and the fact that it becomes a stagnant vehicle in the middle of traffic. i can not stress enough how unsafe i feel in this car and knowing that there are so many faulty jeep compasses on the road.

Two days back, the jeep while driving suddenly the engine went silent, accelerator did not work, the "d" sign in the gear was flashing. i need to take the gear to parking, stop the engine and restart. luckily there was no car behind or atleast the one that was stopped at a distance as my car did not move. this happened again next day twice. this problem is scary.

The jeep compass 2018 car just stops in the middle of driving. there is no oil light to indicate it is low on oil. this is a serious safety hazard . this has happened twice. the car eats oil. dealer said to drive for 2000 miles and bring it in . i am terrified of driving it. it needs a new engline

I have my 2018 jeep compass for literally 10 months now not even a year. bought the car in april of 2019 and it is now january 2020. i’ve taken my car approximately 2 times to the shop for routine maintenance. any time i put the car in reverse it jerks as if something underneath the car is about to fall out. when placed in drive it goes into some sort of limp mode where it does not want to go this has happened to me about 3 times now. twice in traffic! where i’m stalled out on the highway waving for people to go around. an absolute nightmare. as of last night i was parked at a grocery store about to pull off when the car jerked and shut off again. when i tried to turn the car back on the dash light started to go hay wire and the engine light popped on with the transmission light dinging red that the transmission needs servicing when i put the car in drive again it went no where.this is a huge burden in my life right now this is my only transportation to get my children and i back and forth from school, work, church etc. and i can’t even rely on it this is frustrating this car is only 2 years old and has this many major problems with it. i’m literally afraid to drive this car anywhere anymore. i can’t believe that this issue hasn’t been recalled yet it’s soo many complaints on this vehicle. i literally look up everyday to see if this issue has been recalled or if i’ve received a notice in the mail of this particular recall and nothing! this is not right at all and something needs to be done asap

Oil burning up way before oil change is due. caused my car to stall in the middle of the road. the stall occurred while making a right turn at an intersection speed of approximately 10-15 mph. mileage was about 39000 while making the turn a quick chime and oil pressure low came on and disappeared and the car immediately stalled. come to find out that was was oil on dipstick. no warnings

My car is not even 2 years old and it has completely shut down twice while driving. very quickly a “low oil pressure warning” sign will flash on the dashboard, and soon after the car becomes limp and completely shuts down. it will not move and doesn’t allow further driving. the dealership found my oil is low, even though i haven’t even hit 2500 miles since my last oil change. they are having me come back after 500 miles to monitor oil consumption and investigate further. this is extremely frustrating and dangerous, as it has shut off when i’m on main roads with cars all around me. i’m very disappointed, as i have never had any issues with previous jeeps i’ve owned.

2.4l multiair motor burns oil at excessive rate. new car burns 1qt of oil per 850 miles. no "low oil" indicator light. when low on oil, car stalls, jolts, or shuts off. stall generally occurs when turning at low speeds (less than 30 mph). significant safety hazard if turning in front of oncoming traffic. car will stall if down 2 quarts. therefore, if you do not refill oil every 1500 miles, you risk stalling on roadways. current vehicle has 26,000 miles. normally add 5 quarts of oil between scheduled oil changes. stalling has occurred approximately 10 times. two times stall occurred in intersection, almost resulting in high speed collision from opposing traffic.

5/2018, we bought a 2018 jeep compass sport with extended warranty and gap insurance. we were diligent on getting oil changed per recommendations. 8/2018, pulling out in intersection, vehicle died, spontaneously engaged the emergency brake. this happend a few more times we took in for service. 11/2018, (well within the lemon law guidelines)we took to the waxahachie. they inspected it/changed oil, they told us it was low on oil, that the dying of the car was a safety mechanism and we just needed to change the oil more often. keep in mind, the oil had been changed per vehicle recommendations. we began changing the oil every 3000 miles. the vehicle still died multiple times over next several months, going down the tollway, pulling out on the service road to get on the highway, middle of busy intersections with children in vehicle. 10/1/2019, frustrated/concerned about safety, took the vehicle back in for service. at this time it had only been 2000 miles since the was oil changed, was low on oil. this is when we were told that chrysler is aware of this issue and we never got a recall. had us bring the vehicle back in every 1000 miles for oil consumption test. 10/15/2019, 2 qts low after 1000 miles. they ordered new engine. they were backed up so on11/12/19 they called to bring car in for new engine 11/22, we picked up car, drove approximately 10 miles, overheated. we returned to service department. they kept it/we picked up 11/26, drove two miles/died going down service road. we took back. 12/2, picked up/ warning light came on during test drive. left there. picked up 12/4/19. 1/4/20,vehicle overheated while driving. took to waxahachie.10 days later, they said needs new engine. 3rd engine/less than 2 year old car. goal is get them to buy back for what we owe, refund down payment, trade in, remainder of warranty/gap insurance. never received any recall on this vehicle!

My vehicle start/stop caused me to stall out for 20min in the middle of traffic, i was not hit, and i put my hazards on and waved people by, i had to turn my vehicle off, and then put the parking break on, then disengage the parking break, restart my vehicle, and press the star/stop button to turn it off, and since this incident, my start stop system has not worked but i constantly have an umbrella con on my console that is a circle with an exclamation mark. i then went to orielly auto parts near my home for a diagnosis, and it was a manufacture code that they had no clue was about. my vehicle was in motion approaching a stop light on a public city street when it shut down and stalled out, i obstructed traffic for ten mins until i figured out how to get my car to turn back on.

Since i’ve purchased the vehicle the emergency brakes comes on randomly. i can literally be driving and come to a stop sign and it comes on. this is unsafe and can cause others to hit you from behind. my car has also for the second time in one year had check engine and transmission light to come on. this should not take place with a brand new car.

On three different occasions my engine has shut off and gone into a ‘limp mode’ while i am driving without any warning or indicator light activation. this has occurred while driving at high speeds and has nearly resulted in more than one multi-vehicle accidents. the parking brake engages and i am unable to restart the vehicle for several minutes thereafter. i was nearly rear ended on both occasions and had no ides what was wrong. come to find out, there was minimal oil in the engine despite being dealer maintained in a timely fashion and well before the next oil change was due. i immediately took my 2018 jeep compass in for servicing where they explained they have been seeing this issue in this particular model with the 2.4 liter multi-air 4 cylinder engine. the pcv valve was replaced and they started to monitor oil usage via an oil consumption test every 500 miles. unfortunately the pcv valve replacement did not prove to be the fix as the engine malfunctioned once again sometime around 2500 miles into the oil change. i am extremely concerned for my safety and rely on this vehicle to get me to work as i am a healthcare professional. i am shocked that a recall has not been issued after reading online just how many cases have been reported with the same make/model engine. i am lucky that i was not seriously injured and it is just a matter of time before someone is, if action is not taken. i was merging onto a 4 lane highway during rush hour traffic with no shoulder the first time this occurred. traffic was moving at 65 miles per hour. it was absolutely frightening. this is unacceptable and is a detriment to highway and personal safety. my sales associate at the dealership is also alarmed at just how many 2018 jeep compass’ with the 2.4 liter engine are having this unequivocal hazardous issue. something must be done asap.

My hill brake activates while i’m in traffic, making u-turns, and driving. i took it to the dealership in january and they couldn’t replicate the problem so they couldn’t resolve it. they had it from january 25th to february 14th. now my car isn’t starting and the hill brake is activating. i got a new battery and an oil change on monday, december 23rd.

The car stopped in the middle of freeway, i was lucky no one was behind me, so far three times it happened. every time when it happened i was driving the car. the way it happens first my speed will reduced even though i was pushing the gas, and suddenly stops.

I have had the car a year and the emergency brake randomly comes on by itself without having to push the emergency brake button. it usually happens when in reverse or just cranking the vehicle. also tonight my radio and usb port completely turned off like i had turned my car off, while i was going down the road at 70 mph. then it turned back on by itself like i had just turned my car on, i was still driving down the road.

This jeep cannot go 3,000 miles between oil changes. even when using a fully synthetic oil that has a life span of 5,000 miles, the "low oil pressure" warning comes on. if not serviced, the vehicle stalls (usually while turning the steering wheel, usually in the middle of an intersection!). upon towing it to a service station, they state that they can't fix it, only the dealership can fix it. the dealership states that it just needs an oil change. so, instead of using the "mileage to next oil change" sticker, i have to have the oil level checked to estimate when it will stall again. i do not feel safe in this car.

While driving the tachometer and the digital and analog speedometers went to zero. and the d for drive was flashing in the dash as well as at the shifter along with the parking brake light flashing also.when i pulled over and put it in park it shut itself off and would not immediately restart. this is a few months after taking to the dealer for the transmission not shifting and codes flashing. i have attached a photo taken at about 20 mph of the tachometer and speedometers

When my vehicle hits 47 mph it starts making a very loud humming noise coming from the engine area. the noise continues to be persistent until i slow down to less than 30 mph. i have taken it to dealership but jeep doesn’t know how to fix it. they say they have been working on a software update since early 2018. i’m not sure if it’s damaging my vehicle but it is extremely loud.

Four times now after the stop/start system has engaged while at a stop and i release the break to start driving, the car either flashes 4 wheel drive unavailable and then goes into limp mode not allowing the car to drive over 13mph until the car is restarted or most recently states transmission warning service engine and won't allow the car to drive at all until i restart the car in the middle of the road. both times after restarting the car has driven with no issues but most recently the service engine light has remained on. these issues only happen with the stop/start function so i have to remember to turn this feature off everytime i start the car. this has happened twice in the middle of a busy intersection in the city leaving me to sit in the middle and wait for my car to shut off, turn back on, and hopefully drive away while hoping no car drives right into me while trying to do this. very unsafe!

During cold weather/ and randomly driving down highway, engine will cutout and not restart. also when parked engine will crank, but not start. even if you replace battery- does nothing. this is a very high priority for safety concerns. this could cause lots of wrecks.

On 12/12/2019 at approximately 8:30pm i was driving eastbound i-80 in utah traveling about 65mph. at mile marker 130 at the entrance to parleys canyon as i tried to accelerate my vehicle stalled, loosing power. i was able to move to the shoulder of the road but nearly rearended and several semi's needed to do quick manuevers to avoid colliding with me. there were no warnings and it was sudden power loss not previously experienced. the vehicle restarted buy i experience a similar lack of power/acceleration. i do not feel this is safe to drive and i have towed it to a jeep dealer.

Well - this all started back in april of 2019 - when i took my jeep in - it would stall in the middle of a turn . around 5000 miles - now this is a lease vehicle - so i took the jeep in explained to the service manager at ray laethem what the vehicle was doing and he checked the oil and there was no oil in the engine - so we started an oil consumption test - nothing after that was recorded correctly - every time i took the jeep back a the 1000 miles the oil was low and they would say come back every 500 miles - til the 3rd time i took it in and the dealership said there was no oil used - and it was a quart low - i did check it before i took it in - it was low a quart low -also took to a different dealership northland jeep , chrysler . they also stated this is normal for the engine that is in my jeep. so i took the jeep back again to northland - requested to speak to the service manager - was told he is not in - so that they could check the oil for the oil consumption test. the service guy stated we don't do that . we put that you request an oil consumption test they did the oil change - so again nothing recorded correctly - my jeep uses oil ( "its normal) , it uses a quart of oil every 1000 miles .the case is closed - problem not fixed

The vehicle at any known time goes into the parking brake mode and stalls! the dealership does not recognize the problem and twice we were advised to change the oil? the oil changes which should not even be entertained has always been kept up to date. my question should we change the oil before or after the severity of the accident that can occur due to this malfunction. and why is this not a recall there are so many complaints online people experiencing same problem.are you waiting till someone dies before doing something about it? that would surely sore sales? not understanding how this is going on so long.it has occurred on three incidents now highway and side street , it should not matter it is extremely dangerous!

Purchased new compass from best jeep in plymouth ma. after first oil change, just before second 13,000 miles (sticker says to go every 7,000 miles) low oil pressure light came on, had to get off the road. took 2 quarts of oil to get to safe zone, oil dripping was noticeable under car and i brought back to dealer. got car back and they noted no oil leak found and saw spilled oil at filler spot. i put oil in the car, there was no oil spilled around the filler. when i looked, dealership had taken, what seemed to be an oily rag, and wiped all around that area. then tried to blame me. got car home, oil was still dripping. called, made another appointment. they then wrote on the work order "verified, service manager documented oil under vehicle. they put die in oil, cleaned up present oil on outside of engine. went back to dealer after 300 miles, oil was down half a quart, but dealer said no leaks found. was told that this is within the normal range for a new engine to burn up to 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles. this means the engine is already showing 1 quart of oil aprox every 600 miles. now i have to do an "oil consumption test" every 1000 miles. after reading what can happen when low oil pressure happens, car shutting down and locking up so cant be driven, has happened. once at a stop light, then trying to leave a parking spot. i thought it was operator error and i must have done something wrong because no warning lights came on and i was able to restart the car and continue. my fault for not following up with dealer, however if happens again, car will be just towed from spot. to me, this is an issue jeep knows about and is putting profits over lives. the cost of a life if the car shuts down on the highway or intersection with no warning, if far less than what it will cost them to step up and acknowledge and correct. i just pray it doesn't happen to my family.*dt*jb

I purchased my jeep compass new. since i have had it, i have taken my 2018 jeep compass in for repair due to loss of oil several times. the loss of oil was first noticed before the first 2,000 miles on the car because of a ticking noise coming from the engine. this car has even stopped on me on while traveling out of town and the engine light comes on along with other lights. in this particular instance it did start back up eventually. when it did, the engine light stayed on the whole time. recently, (11/16/19), while driving the whole car shuts down in the middle of the street and the emergency brakes lock up. the car will not budge. in this instance the car had to be towed to the dealership. there have been so many issues with this car that i do not feel safe driving it. these issues seem to be completely random and without warning.

Engine oil checked low 3,000 miles after last oil change. this is consistent with multiple online reports of these vehicles burning oil rapidly. other reports state vehicle shuts down while traveling with no warning indications and the dipstick registers no engine oil.

On several occasions the care has stalled while driving. once when taking a turn, but mostly when slowing down at a stop light. the check engine light will come on and service auto start stop will come on and without any warning the car will stop in the middle in the road. when we took car to the dealer they told us that it was the both batteries. we have had this car less than one year. i could understand one battery, but why would both go out at the same time. in researching i saw that there was voltage regulator recall; however, we are being told that this does not involve our vin. these incidents have happened around town.

Purchased at the dealership @ 5k..engine stalled @ 18k miles as i was backing out of my driveway.. checked and there was no oil on stick.. had to buy oil twice just to take my jeep to be serviced and have an “oil consumption test” performed multiple times, was told everything was fine.. 11k miles later..”service engine,” “service transmission,” flashes on dash. no oil on stick within 400 miles of needing an oil change.. engine won’t turnover/start. stranded with <30k miles & haven’t had the vehicle a year.

While driving on highway the engine light came on and the vehicle began to pull back and jerk as if it were trying to slow down. continued for a few miles to jeep dealer which happened to be on that highway. the technicians explained that the engine light came on so as a safety precaution the vehicle restricts the speed by pulling back when you try to accelerate. the vehicle is currently at the dealer and they are unable to find any code that indicate a problem and they are unable to replicate the issue

Car stalls randomly if oil is low ... on highways, at intersections, while turning or at stop lights and stop signs. problem started when vehicle only had 3000 miles. brought it in for service and was told that this is normal behavior for this vehicle. they said the vehicle burns oil quickly and when it is low it stalls. this was a 17 birthday present for my daughter who had several near miss accidents before we figured out the problem.

I bought my 2018 jeep compass in february 2019. in july 2019 while driving the car on the freeway with my 2 daughters the oil light came on and the car turned off in the middle of traffic. thank god i was in traffic and i was able to restart the car. the oil light did not come back on and i was able to drive the car. a few days later this happened again while taking my daughters to visit family on the road. i was able to start the car again. the oil light did not come back on again. the next day i took my car to larson dodge and jeep dealer in puyallup, wa. i told them what was happening and i was told that it is a known problem that the jeep compass has a problem with oil evaporating and they would change the oil. the service person i talked to said his wife also has a jeep compass and he is trying to convince his wife to trade it in because to this problem. i am not sure how oil can just evaporate. at the time of the oil change i had driven about 3000 to 3500 miles since i bought the car. i have had to have my oil changed one other time around 3000 miles and will have to have it changed again soon. the last time the oil was very low again and it getting low again. i have to continuously check my oil on a weekly basis on an almost new car. driving this car, that can just turn off at anytime due to a known oil consumption issue with the 2018 jeep compass not only puts me in danger but it puts my children in danger each time the car is driven. i do not have another mode of transportation.

I have had multiple, varying issues with my 2018 jeep compass since i began leasing the car in june of 2018. in the past year or so alone, the car has had the uconnect system replaced or fixed 4 times, the brakes were recalled and repaired, it broke down on the side of the road out of oil at 6,000 miles, and now the engine needs to be replaced.

On november 14, 2019, my wife drove our 2018 jeep compass on a local street, within minutes, the car began slowing down in the middle of the road, came to a complete stop, and then shut off. before the car shut off, the emergency brake light came on. on the first attempt, the car did not turn back on. on the second attempt, the car turned back on.

I had been driving the car for a few minutes and stopped at a red light behind another vehicle. when the light turned green, i drove and turned right. after about 10 yards, my car stalled just as i was trying to accelerate. fortunately, no one was behind me, or i would have likely been hit. this had happened twice before, so i knew the process: put the car in park, turn on the emergency break, turn off the emergency break, turn off the car, turn on the car, put the car in drive. this sequence seemed to work, but my car should never stop in the middle of the road while i am driving. it is scary and unsafe.

While driving this vehicle on the freeway the "service shifter" message came up on dash. all lights on the shifter came red. car has only 15,199 miles on it.

I left my house and drove about a mile down the road. i stopped at a stop sign and as i went to proceed onto an extremely busy road my 2018 jeep compass completely shut down. it wouldnt move and told me to shift gears then press the brake and start botton. multiple attempts would not restart the car. it took between 5-7 minutes to finally start running, but gave no indication of what the issue was. i was able to drive a mile to my destination without any issue, but was momentarily in fear for my life as the engine shut down with no notice. upon further investigation, i found a website containing of hundreds of recent complaints describing the exact same scenario. jeeps solution has been that the cars are in need of oil changes, but yet for myself and many others, no oil warning light is even coming on. my husband checked my oil and there basically is none. i called the dealership service center who informed me that many people have been having this issue and it needs an oil change. i find this incredibly unacceptable and feel that jeep is in over their heads with how to resolve this faulty system that nothing is being done about it and wont until fatalities are unfortunately reported. i contacted chrysler who said it may need an oil consumption test done, which is obviously going to require me to drive the vehicle in unsafe conditions to run a “test”. i have also read that the engine was designed to shut off when oil is low and chrysler confirmed that. how does this pass testing? there is no warning light at all and chances are that you will die or be seriously injured if your car just shuts off in traffic. i am genuinely concerned for my life and the lives and safety of others while having these faulty vehicles on the road. there needs to be a recall asap and engines need to be replaced with one that dont burn through fuel like this compass was “designed” to.

Engine shuts off while driving and the emergency brake comes on. very dangerous, was almost in an accident. bedders brothers has told me it's due to low oil pressure and is common with these vehicles. i do not want my wife or anyone else driving it. what will it take for a resolution or recall?

When driving, the vehicle will suddenly stop, check engine, check transmission, service engine soon all light up and the car will not restart. the vehicle has had an oil and filter change at 5,000 miles. the error codes are: p3506 and p2af5: cylinder misfire fault detected, throttle position sensor, sensor reference volatage circuit low, crankshaft position sensor, engine oil pressure sensor, accelerator pedal position sensor circuit 1 low. the vehicle is 16 months old and has 7,000 miles. this has happened at least 7 times, the last 3 yesterday. all city driving, once in the driveway. sometimes vehicle won't turn off, but you cannot move forward. if you wait about 5-10 minutes, all returns to normal until the next event. maybe in a week, maybe in 5 minutes.

While driving my car and making a turn on a busy intersection in chicago my car completely shut off. it appears to be on, but i cannot accelerate. i turn the car off, there's a stall before my car completely restarts. no lights have come on at all. when the car finally comes back on, the emergency brake is activated and it takes some time to get it to turn off. i am not due for an oil change for at least another 2k miles.

It has shut down on me 4 times while driving. the emergency brake comes on by itself. the low oil pressure light came on the one time it shut down on me mid turn. which is not possible for low oil pressure. it usually shuts down while going 25 to 35 mph on a city street but has shut down on me while merging onto the expressway.

I have been to papas now 5 times for the same two problems my start stop keeps stalling when trying to turn on 3 times now and has had the check start stop system light come on 3 times now. also my part of my powertrain was broken and my strut broke.

Took ownership of vehicle in aug 2018. at 6000 miles it randomly stalled. returned car to dealership and was informed there was no oil so they topped off and asked me to return for an oil consumption test in 1000 miles. upon returning it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced which was at 9000 miles. at 14000 miles the same issue begins to happen again and car stalled several times, once backing out of driveway, the other at an intersection. i had the car towed to dealership and was told there is nothing wrong with vehicle. awaiting return and reimbursement for rental vehicle and any compensation from jeep. *dt*dt*jb

I lease my 2018 jeep compass. on four occasions the car has stalled and not been able to operate. two of the stalling has been in traffic while the car was in motion (highway and intersection). everytime i take the car in for service the dealership can't duplicate the problem. it did stall again at the dealership so i left it again. on all the occasions dealer had a look they said it was a part that needed to be repaired, then a software update. then saying they left too much cleaner. just last week i picked up my car from dealership with a full tank. i drove 100 miles miles and the fuel indicator did not move at all. i know when i have a full tank of gas i have a total range of 326 miles. then the total range number kept fluctuating. at one point it said i had 328 miles left then went down to 200 then back up to 300 all within 6 miles of driving with a 3/4 tank full. therefore it wasn't accurate. i took the car back in and dealership said it was due to a software update but i just had a software update last week. at this point i don't feel safe driving this car and i fear for my safety and am scared for the next time my car decides to stop while driving. it is unsafe and a hazard to myself and others.

Same issue 2x now and feel my life and others are jeopardized. while driving on a highway coming to a red light slowing down for the light to then turn green while pushing the gas the car stalled, shut down and emergency brake turned on, nothing would work. i could not disengage the emergency brake to even move the car off the lane of the highway and was nearly in a car accident. the first incident the vehicle was taken in for service and was told i needed an oil change. i said so while i'm driving, getting on a highway 1.5 minutes after leaving my home my car will just shut down? the answer was yes! unacceptable!! how about the car not turning on due to low oil or things of such instead of the car turning on and allowing you to drive enough to get up to 50 mph then just shutting down. again today and car is being towed to dealer. i have uconnect and receive emails of my car diagnostics. only 3 days ago it sent a "suggested" oil change. understand that uconnect has an "immediate action needed" alert. if the car shuts down i would assume this should be an immediate action not a suggestion. there is no oil indicator on my dashboard. this is a huge safety issue and concern and must be immediately. i will be reaching out to any and all news stations that will hear my story and read the hundreds reported if legitimate action is not taken specific to this life saftey issue! i was in a car accident in 2017 and an airbag blew my left eye apart and has left me blinded in one eye. i purchased this vehicle to make me feel safe due to the blind spot alert function. i now have to be concerned that i may jeopardized the safety of myself and others over an oil change?! i hope this reaches the right source and i hope they read the hundreds of other reports that are exactly the same or jeep will be on the news and all those that turned a cheek. *dt *dt consumer stated her fiancÉ stopped at the dealership this morning and again they are stating this happens when the oil is low.*jb

My service transmission and check engine light comes on and off every few weeks i took it to my local jeep dealer they told me multiple times there was nothing wrong with my 2018 compass when i know indeed it is i smell coolant all the time they say they don’t my engine and trans light comes in and off they have no code i caught it on video they both lights were on and i was asked if i’d like to bring it back in i said yes the day i go in of course the lights are off but now they have a code he says to me oh your transmission just needs to be updates but the codes that i got back stated that it was the torque converter

Consumer stated it was around 8,000 miles, it stalled driving on a thruway in new york traffic, parking break engaged and it came to full stop, had to depress brake and restart car. my jeep has been at the dealer for a week while they figure out what is wrong with it. they said the oil is not pumping out. at my last oil change they said the jeep is burning oil like crazy with no warning about low oil. it has 13,000 miles on it and also intermittently shuts off while driving,i have to pull over and the parking break engages. then restart it, it also intermittently won't start at all. then after a few hours it will start but runs really rough. another issue is with what sounds like the suspension in the front right of the vehicle. it feels very unsafe to drive as i have two young children. the vehicle stopped in the middle of a freeway in traffic in new york and it was the scariest few moments of my life. honestly i agree that this car is starting to feel like a death trap yet there are no recalls when i enter my vin. *dt*jb

Why has this not been recalled. had my jeep at the dealer yesterday, for another oil change, about 2000 miles before i was due. the last oil change was around 9500 miles. they said, there was no oil in my car when he checked. it has just under 13,000 miles on it and for the second time in 5 days, the engine just shut off while driving. so i have now almost gotten rear-ended twice. i have to drift to the side, put the car in park, shut it off entirely, then restart, yesterday it took 3 tries to get it to restart. i was told, i need to drive another 2000 miles and come back so they can check my dip stick, which they marked yesterday. ironically while i was checking out, there was a woman there, picking up her compass from them after a week, because they were replacing her engine. earlier this month i was talking to a family friend. her compass had just come back from the same dealer, after having the engine replaced for the same thing. so why, am i still having to drive a car, when this is a known issue? from reading other complaints, sounds like some have not had as easy of a pull off as have and are stuck in harms way when it happens to them. is it going to take someone dying for this issue to become a recall??

Auto start/stop does not function properly 100% of the time. pulling up to a red light the engine stops and on numerous occasions, the vehicle will not turn back on until the vehicle has been completely turned off and restarted. can become a dangerous situation if there is a vehicle running up behind you and your vehicle refuses to start back up.

Vehicle burns through oil at a rapid rate with no warning indicators. once the oil reaches a critical level the engine shuts down with no warning. dealership called this "limp mode" third oil change i checked the level for safety. 1000 miles to go before my next oil change and the engine is down 2 quarts.

This car burns oil which i was not told about by the dealer when purchasing. that in and of itself is a problem (i have since been told to check it every 1000 miles even though the manual says it can go 7500 w/o changing), but the real problem is when it gets low the car just turns off. no warning. luckily i was in a residential area when it happened, although it was an intersection. i was with my 3 year old and required help from a passerby to help push it to the curb. i could have been driving on a freeway with no shoulder as often happens on highway 1 where i live. this feature is dangerous! somebody is going to get hurt because of it. it is currently in the shop for some other problem where it wont start, which is also dangerous in it's own way.

Oil burning up way before oil change is due. caused my car to stall in the middle of the road with my three month old infant in the back seat.*dt the stall occurred while making a right turn at an intersection speed of approximately 10-15 mph. mileage was about 12925. while making the turn a quick chime and oil pressure low came on and disappeared and the car immediately stalled. come to find out the oil on dipstick was 1mm. no warnings about it. not due for oil change for another 1600 miles. *jb

While driving down the freeway at about 65 miles per hour, without warning this jeep stalls, putting my wife in a potentially fatal or injurious accident situation. dealership said they know and accept as normal this brand new car burning a quart of oil every 2000 miles and that if the car gets low on oil it will quit running, but they never tell the owner of the car, they only say come back in 5000 miles for next oil change, meanwhile the car starts stalling at 3-4000 miles

I got into my vehicle when a pull out of my parking spot the vehicle shut off. i put the vehicle in neutral with the parking brake on a tried to start it. the vehicle would crank but not start. i attempted to start the vehicle several times until it finally turned on.

First off. i have a 2018 jeep compass that’s i got a few weeks ago and i’m noticing now that my brakes are already terribly grinding, the engine gets way too hot even though the indicator is always neutral and never moves ever. also the mpg is absolute crap and i think it has to do with the engine system itself causing problems. i lost 45 miles according to the indicator and really only went 12 miles back from work. that shouldn’t be right.

My vehicles transmission, beginning at 30,000 miles, started to lock up. the service transmission and service engine lights both activated. this only occurred while the vehicle was parked and idled. i had to press gas turn vehicle off for a couple of minutes and restart to reset the transmission icon. the same lock up started to happen while driving after i passed the 36,000 miles mark. i was on the highway using cruise control and the vehicle locked up and started to slow down. i could not accelerate so i had to put my hazards and pull over. this happens very often now. autozone states the code pops up with u1428. i then start to have start up issues at 50,000 miles. the start/stop system is unavailable and the light reflect “a!” has been activare since. this has caused my vehicle to get really hot. constant oil burning. and gas burning. when autozone check code it popped up p1dd2 (with no description of what the code was caused by). the vehicle electrical is not stable. in multiple instances my vehicle lights and power have gone in and out while idle and driving. it slows down my vehicle suddenly. i have heard a lot about transmission and engine issues with the newer jeeps but i didn’t think this would happen to me. i don’t think my vehicle is safe and would like a more professional input since the dealership i bought the vehicle from is never available to assist.

While stopped at a stop light auto start/stop turned the car off as normal. a few moments later the brake light illuminated on the dash and the electronic emergency brake turned on. i released my foot from the brake to see if the car would start back up it would not. the dash read out in park and start. i attempted however car would not start. the emergency brake would not turn off either. i had to call road side assistance for a tow. vehicle only has 11,400 miles. the car is at the dealership i am waiting on their investigation.

Jeep compass is a safety hazard death trap; i cannot believe there is not a recall on it! it literally burns oil down to nothing & with no warning whatsoever the parking brake engages, the dashboard lights up and it just stops, while driving, on the road, in traffic! this has happened to me twice! i have changed the oil regularly (actually early) and after 3,000 miles it is empty?? are you serious? first time it happened the dealer conducted an "oil consumption" test, what a joke. obviously it is over-consuming oil because it just seized up on me while driving & making a turn in front of other cars and the dipstick was clear, not one drop of oil left! made special trips to the dealer so they could top off the oil after 1,500 miles (their solution to this known problem) and it happened a second time after less than 3,000 miles, and once again while making a turn i was almost rear ended because the jeep stopped in the middle of the road!!! the jeep is currently at the dealer while they "figure out what is wrong" and how to handle it. i will tell you how to handle it, recall them before someone dies!!! if i could ditch jeep/chrysler right now i would, and as soon as my lease is up, i will be going back to gm cars!

We bought the jeep new with 8600 miles on it. 4000 miles after our first oil change at the dealer, the engine oil light came on while turning a corner. i checked the oil level to which i needed to add three quarts to bring it back to normal. we have 20,000 miles on our car. this seems to be a lot of oil. there are no oil spots or drips under our car and no smoke is coming out from the muffler. engine bay is clean. i searched online and found many other new jeep owners with the same complaint. is anything being done about this?

After having my jeep for less than 7,000 miles, i noticed that my front two tires were completely bald on the insides. brought it to multiple shops and the dealership where i got it, i was told i needed to rotate my tires more and that new cars get poor quality tires put on them. i was also told to monitor my inflation and it has been kept perfectly. i have rotated my tires at around 8,000 miles and am currently at 12,000 and i can already notice the same wear pattern on my tires. nobody can find anything wrong with my car (alignment, tire pressure, suspension, everything is right) or an explanation of why this is happening.

Vehicle stalls after car has stopped at stop light or stop sign. vehicle will properly turn off due to auto shut off. remove foot from brake, vehicle starts and begins to move. vehicle will then stall quickly after in intersection. operator needs to put car in park, turn vehicle back on and begin moving. problem has repeatedly happened during city driving at stops signs.

I was about to pull out of the parking lot while in drive when the engine service light came up telling me to pull my car over and come to a stop because the vehicle will shut off. took it to the dealer they said nothing was wrong and erased all my error messages after it was scanned. as a standard procedure of jeep they told me to pick up the vehicle and drive it for 1,000 miles and if the check engine light appeared to bring it in and then they will fix it. i find this is unsafe telling me to go drive my vehicle and there is a possibility it may turn off while i am on the highway.

I was driving to work one morning and made it about 1 mile from home before my car turned off and the emergency brake engaged. i had owned my vehicle for about 4 months at this point, and the engine oil pressure light engaged. i had around 3,000 miles at this point. i started my vehicle and made it another 1/2 mile before the car turned off and brake engaged again. started the car and made it the 10 miles that i have to drive to work. the same thing happened for the next 3 days. luckily i was not on a highway; this could have been very dangerous! after the 3rd day of this happening, i went online to research. apparently the newer jeep engine drinks oil. at that point, my husband had to add 3 quarts of oil! after only 3,000 miles! i called chrysler the next day and they told me to do an oil consumption test. when i talked to the service area at the jeep dealership they told me that 95% of the vehicles on their lot have this particular engine that drinks oil. i asked if there was going to be a recall and they said they hadn't heard that. i asked the woman who is managing my claim at chrysler if they can put the old motor in my vehicle, but she said i need to go through the consumption test before determining any solutions. from what i"ve been reading, jeep seems to be doing nothing about this. other jeep compass drivers describe their near accidents because their vehicle stopped on a highway. i feel that this issue causes a huge safety risk. no one at the dealership where i bought my vehicle mentioned this issue; i would not have purchased the vehicle if i knew that it literally shuts down. i mentioned it to my salesman and he said he was unaware. i found it hard to believe that jeep is not recognizing this issue. *dt “parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).”*jb

I stopped at the stop light and the engine shut off with the normal function of auto start/stop but when i took foot of the brake the car stalled out in the middle of the road. after which there was loss of power steering and the parking brake would stay engaged. the loss of power steering made it really difficult to steer the vehicle off the road to safety.

Every time i am driving my car my car will do what i call a "spaz out" moment. the dash warning lights all come on and a loud ding begins. my car dash lights up like a christmas tree and each notice pops up: transmission needs service, 4 wheel drive needs serviced. traction system needs service, emergency break needs service. then they all go off the check engine light remains on. i am very worry for my safety and other if this vehicle locks the wheels while driving on the high way. most my driving is on the high way at the speed of 70mphs.

I exited the highway during rush hour morning traffic. my jeep stopped all the sudden. the engine shut itself off and engaged the emergency brake. it didn’t keep rolling or let me get out of the lane of traffic. i sat there for ten minutes with car honking and swerving around me. i took it to the dealership. they said these cars (jeep compass) are notoriously bad about stalling out because they burn oil quickly and the oil light won’t come on. they told me to constantly check my oil. i bought it brand new last year. i’ve had it about a year a half. i called chrysler customer service. they told me “yes. these 2.4 liter engines burn oil too quickly. it is a known issue. the jeep will cut off without any warning while driving. this is a safety issue for myself and other drivers on the road with these jeeps. you cannot move the car once it does this.

A few months after owning this vehicle with less than 4,000 miles on it just stopped without any warning while my 16 yo was driving on a busy city street. she was able to coast to the side of the road and call us. we drive 40 min to where she was and the car started up. i drove it right to the dealer where they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it, but updated a few computer things. within a few days it happened again to my daughter as this is her car. the car just completely shuts down without any warning. had it towed to the dealer where they told me there was almost no oil in the vehicle. i have been taking the car in for oil consumption testing every 1,000 miles and i know that between the 2,000-3,000 mile point the oil is below the “safe zone”. in one year with 10,000 miles in this car, i have made 6 trips to the dealer and they have had to put numerous quarts of oil in this car. i have never had this issue in any other vehicle i have owned. this is a very concerning issue for anyone driving these vehicles and makes me nervous every time my daughter is driving this “new” car. i can not believe these cars have not been recalled. there is no low oil warning light. this car just stops while driving down the road and will cause a serious accident if it hasn’t already.

As the passenger windshield wiper sweeps across the glass it hesitates briefly directly in front of & in the line of the drivers vision . resulting in a serious vision obstruction. dumping all of the water now and snow in winter right there in front of the driver ! at night in the dark the situation becomes a problem !

The vehicle was involved in a rear-end and front end collision, the vehicle was stationary at a red light with another vehicle in front. the vehicle behind me rear-ended the jeep compass at approx 50 mph pushing me into the vehicle in front of the jeep compass. no airbags deployed and the vehicle's seat belts failed to lock causing myself to hit the steering wheel.

My car's light to have it's oil changed turned on, then immediately after my engine shut off while i was making a sharp left turn. happened 2 more times before i could get to the shop. was told i was completely out of oil so they refilled the tank and told me this was my fault- within 1000 miles my low oil pressure light quickly turned on and off and my engine turned off again while i was turning. took car to shop and they said i was again out of oil - i insisted they look deeper since i found numerous online forums with people experiencing the same dangerous issue. the dealership discovered my engine was overly consuming the oil and an entire engine replacement was necessary.*dt*jb

Just started vehicle and placed into drive. vehicle moved 5 feet in parking lot and stalled. fan and all electronic components continued running. check engine light was lit on control panel. i pressed and depressed the ignition button several times. the nothing happened. no starting at all. left the vehicle. parking lights and all electronics continued on. i could not shut off. after 10 minutes i went back to vehicle and pressed the ingnition switch and the vehicle started.

Shortly after moving the vehicle while driving at times the engine will completely turn off leaving the vehicle unable to accelerate. the only way to turn the vehicle back on is to come to a complete stop place the vehicle in park and turn it back on. vehicle just hit 7000 miles complications started 2 weeks ago and it has happened 5x now

I was at a stop light when my auto stop came on. when i let off the brake the car did start back up. i finally got it to start after a minute. soon after i was approaching a stop sign and the car automatically initiated my emergency brake before i even fully stopped. another issue occurred after starting my car up my screen was faded out and after driving down the street for a mile or 2 my screen went completely black and rebooted itself.

Engine eats oil way to much around 709 miles it will start to roughly idle and when checking the oil levels it’s 2 quarts low. i can also be driving and the vehicle will jerk when trying to get up to speed thrusting me forward like it’s having trouble.

My car has stalled out several times on the interstate and in busy in town traffic all due to low oil pressure. i have taken my car in several times to have the oil topped off because my dipstick is showing no oil. this happens about every 500 miles. this car is a death trap!

The engine start stop technology is malfunctioning and causing the engine to turn off at unsafe times, after coming to a complete stop at an intersection when the vehicle begins to move again it makes it to the center of the intersection and the engine turns off and is difficult to start back up. the problem also seems to be linked to a issue with the engine over consuming oil.

My 2018 jeep compass ran out of oil. oil plug is in tact and it looks like it’s leaking around the oil pump right behind the alternator. yesterday it was fine this morning started it pulled out and the low oil pressure light came on. i immediately parked it. checked oil and it was empty.

The 2.4 engine in the 2018 compass is using oil at a very high rate. in the first 3200 miles our jeep used 3.5 quarts of oil. the oil got so low that the car stall in the middle of a busy highway on my wife. the performance of this vehicle is unsafe, you never know when the oil get low and the car stalls. i have followed up with the dealer who referred me to chrysler customer care. i spoke with a person there who advised that a quart of oil in a 1000 miles was acceptable. i advies her that a new car should not be using any oil. chrysler knows there is a problem with the 2.4 engine and their answer is " we will put you on a oil change program"> i am not the only owner that is having a problem with the jeep compass, all you have to do is google jeep compass 2.4 engine oil problem. the long and the short of this is, there is a problem with the 2.4 engine, chrysler knows it and will not recall it. the car is unsafe because it will stop running at anytime or anyplace when the oil get low. my wife was nearly broadside because the car stopped in the middle of a travel lane. when she got the car running again it stopped several more time before we were made aware of the oil problem. this car should be recalled due to the engine problem. i shouldn't have to keep adding oil to a $30k plus vehicle. recall it before some one get killed.

The steering wheel in the jeep compass 2018 locks up causing the brakes to not work and as the driver i lost control of the vehicle because the steering didn't have full functionaliy. the vehicle stalls, and brakes don't work properly. there have been time where the car randomly shuts off completely in the middle of a highway after a sharp turn. loss of power steering compounds the problem by making the vehicle difficult to steer off the roadway or highway and caused a collision. the engine has also randomly shut up, and car has jolted in the past a few times creating a major problem and has happened a few times while driving. there are over 1,000 of complaints on line about this vehicle, make and model. the vehicle keeps moving and loses control leaving the drive unable to have control to stop an accident or drive.*dt consumer stated i don’t remember it happened a few times, the earliest i recollect is when i was between 4,000-7,000 miles. dealership was notifie, dealership told contact it is normal for the car to do that sometimes.*jb

Narrative: in august 2019, i was driving from my home toward the highway at approximately 35 mph when my 2018 jeep compass lost power. i could not accelerate so i coasted to the side of the road and shifted into park. (luckily, i had not reached the highway and was not in danger of being rear-ended due to the sudden loss of acceleration!) i noticed the parking brake had engaged and i could not release it. the low oil light then flashed on. i turned off the vehicle and restarted it, but it would not shift into drive. the d button was flashing, but the vehicle would not go in gear. i turned the vehicle off and on twice more until it finally allowed me to shift into drive. i attempted a k-turn in a driveway to drive the vehicle back to my home, when the vehicle lost power again, the parking brake engaged and the low oil light reappeared. i turned the engine off and on and again i couldn’t move. i waited for 5 minutes and finally was able to release the parking brake and shift into reverse. i shifted to drive after exiting the driveway and after driving 1/8 of a mile the power failed again. after waiting another few minutes, i was able to drive home to park in my driveway and asked my husband to check the oil. the oil reservoir was practically empty! we contacted the dealership and we were told to put some oil in it and drive it to the dealership for a service appointment. comments: this occurrence put me in a very unsafe situation that caused me great anxiety. i hate to think what could’ve happened on our very busy highway that i travel on for many miles daily. this vehicle needs to give the driver a warning before the oil level is so low it stops the vehicle in the middle of traffic! i have read many testimonials from other jeep compass owners who have experienced the same problem. i don’t feel safe driving this jeep with my family!

I bought a new 2018 jeep compass in february 2019. within a couple months my oil light came on. i stopped at a service center immediately and was told my vehicle had burned through all of the oil. i immediately contacted my jeep dealer and started a oil consumption test. in the test i burned 1 quart of oil in 2024 miles. i am concerned about the safety of this vehicle shutting down due to low oil or ruining the engine.*dt *as

Purchased vehicle in november 2018, within 3 months it had burned all oil with only 4k miles usage. after an oil change, all oil was burned again within 3 weeks. in may took it for another oil change, once again dangerously low. within 2 months (8k miles) received multiple oil pressure alerts and contacted dealership to start oil consumption tests. dealership just changed oil and told me to come back in 1000 miles. currently only 3 weeks later and continuing to receive new oil pressure alerts and upon checking oil levels, it’s burned 3 qts and is dangerously low again. dealership refuses to do anything other than top off fluids, while using my free oil changes with my jeep wave program to change oil/ top off fluids. current mileage 8863k .

Buyers please be aware. aesthetically this vehicle is awesome. however, it is highly concerning when a vehicle a little over a year old has massive system failures.. my issues with the jeep compass trailhawk is recently while driving the vehicle would automatically shut down in the midst of driving. all systems would be completely dead. when i press the button to start the car it would nod never start back up. what makes matters worse is that when the system is dead there is no power no lights and i am unable to even steer the vehicle off the road. yesterday was the final straw for me . i almost lost my life on the highway when the car made a funny jerking sound and then all of a sudden it went dead in the middle of the road with other vehicle traveling at least 60 to 75 mph. i really thought i was going to die. i had to come out of the car instinctively i used the key fob to close the door and used the valet key to open the car and quickly went back in the vehicle to try to restart one the first try i was not successful. it took me 4 tries to finally get the vehicle started. this was again in the middle of the highway with my amber lights on. eventually, when the vehicle started up again and i continued to drive home once again when i exited the highway and this time came to a complete stop the vehicle went dead again!! this time went i put it in park it started back up again but when i put it in drive to move off the vehicle lost power again and was barely moving . this issue needs to be addressed by the manufacturer as lives will be lost if similar situations are being reported as i have seen. nice looking compact suv but i do not trust this vehicle anymore hence why i will be switching.

The 2018 jeep compass engines have an unresolvable defect causing the oil to burn at an accelerated rate. it is a dangerous safety issue for anyone driving a 2018 jeep compass. the vehicle requires synthetic oil which would normally give you 5,000 drivable miles or 5 months before having to get an oil change. after only 2,000 miles, while driving my jeep compass, it shut off without any warning. luckily, there was no traffic on the road because the only thing i was able to do was coast to the shoulder and brake. only when the engine shut down did a low oil pressure light come on. i never would have bought this vehicle if i knew that the car would shut down with no warning. absolutely zero warning...no oil warning light, no message, no symbol, nothing. this happened again last week, just shy of 3 months after my last oil change. i immediately took it to the dealership and was told that after they change the oil (again), i will have to drive the vehicle, despite the safety issues, for another 1,000 miles so they can conduct an oil consumption test. after that, they will need to do a bore test to see if there is scoring in the cylinders. i was told that i will most likely need a new engine. i then researched this issue and was appalled at the sheer number of people this is happening to and despite the complaints, chrysler has not issued a recall. in fact, they are still selling this car to people even with a serious design flaw. there should be an immediate recall of all 2018 jeep compasses before someone dies, if someone hasn't already. i don’t want to be a statistic. i am lucky in that both of the times my jeep shut off, there was no traffic around me. i have read complaints by people who were driving with their children on highways when their cars just shut off. how terrifying. this is an extremely dangerous situation and should be addressed immediately by chrysler.*dt the consumer stated the engine was replaced. *js

My brake engaged yesterday while traveling on a city street. i was stopped at a light. i pushed the gas to make my vehicle accelerate when the light turned green. my vehicle would not move. the brake was engaged. after confirming nothing had hit the brake button. i pushed the brake release. the vehicle still would not go forward. there were images on the screen that include an a!, engine symbol, etc. i pushed the button to restart the car. it would not start. the brake was engaged again. this is the third time this has happened to my vehicle. it is very dangerous when this happens on a major street during peak hours of traffic. during one of the times my vehicle responded like this. the oil light was on. i went to the closest facility to get my vehicle checked. they said there was no oil in my vehicle on april 17, 2019. i had just had my oil changed.

Car has a known mechanical defect in the car causing it to burn oil at an accelerated rate. causes the car to stall and lose steering brakes, and all computer operated systems. service bulletin # 09-007-18 rev a. was failed to be disclosed at time of purchase causing vehicle to be unsafe to be driven. have happen around feb 2019, july 2019 and again in september of 2019. car was bought in the end of november of 2018. *dt *as

The jeep has an issue....when i back into my drive way in reverse the car will sometimes roll forward....really unsure what this is about but believe it should be checked out. also, the jeep sometimes jerk when i take off and even swerve over to the lane left of me when i'm driving in the freeway. i have mentioned these things to the dealership but nothing back yet. i love the vehicle but there's definitely some issues that need to be resolved.

Driving on the expressway and the vehicle just stalled. almost was involved in an accident trying to get to the side of the road. after several minutes vehicle started again. called dealership and was advised to check the oil as this vehicle uses oil. vehicle has 5612 miles on it. oil was added and then advised i needed to bring in for oil consumption test. only thing i was advised was that must bring in vehicle for next 2000 miles then again 2000 miles more. so at this time, i am driving a vehicle that stalls and not given a reason and is a safety issue for myself and passengers. this is a safety issue for myself, and any one else that is on the road with me when vehicle just decides to stall without warning.

The vehicle has stalled five times driving on the highway. every time the vehicle stalled it has been hot out. the car stalls and several error lights flash; parking break, hill-stop, oil-change, etc.. the car then won't turn off, but just stays in on mode but will not move. jeep will not address the issue. they say that because they can't duplicate it, the car is 'fine'. i have almost been hit at least a dozen times. this is a known and extremely dangerous issue and they will not admit it.

The jeep stalls, shuts off and turns on its own e brake when it runs low on oil. but it runs out of oil every 2000 miles!!!!!!! ive taken it to jeep and they say, oh thats normal !?!?!?!?! ive almost been hit several times going around a round a bout and having it lock up like that because its low on oil - and im going broke buying oil changes all the time this car is horrible, also the radio completely and randomly turns off, display everything - while driving!

The engine burns oil at an extremely fast rate. every 3,000 miles there is no oil left in the car and the car will stall out while driving with no warning. it is an extreme safety hazard and somebody is going to get killed if this happens at the wrong time. *dt consumer stated oil consumption test was done but dealer told consumer it was normal to stall.*jb

This would be the second time on this 2018 jeep compass with only 5000k miles that the vehicle consumes engine oil leaving it very low with almost no oil on the dip stick. first time it happened the vehicle only had 2000k miles. the first time i encountered a problem was on the freeway heading home when the check engine light came on. and the vehicle shook as well, as if it were struggling. the engine light went away but the next couple of times as i drove on the street the vehicle would turn off a few times. it would turn back on but it struggled a little to turn on. when i took it to the dealer at 2000k miles the dealer told me that they were unable to locate the problem on the vehicle. the vehicle doesnt leak any oil. they also did a few updates to the vehicle computer because if was in need of updates. now vehicles is at 5oook miles and once again very low oil in engine. currently the vehicle doesnt stall or have any lights on. i will be going back to the dealer again to get it checked about the consumption.

I was driving 44mph headed to a red light with a 4 lane highway coming the other direction. the jeep shut off while i was going 44mph and i had no steering, no breaks, no power at all. i kept hitting restart and finally the engine kicked back on, i was able to get the car to the side of the road. vehicle was towed to the dealership d'ambrosio in downingtown, pa. when jeep shut off warning lights came on saying "low oil pressure". no lights appeared prior to jeep shutting off while going 44mph. i almost died! while at dealership i was told by service manager that the parts guy's wife had the same thing happen to her while driving her jeep just stopped on the highway. easter sunday my brother told me his friend called him and told him that his wife's jeep shut off while she was driving on a highway. there is a serious issue with these vehicles.

While accelerating onto a highway, my vehicle suddenly shut off. i immediately put hazards on, tried to pull to the side, stopped and tried turning the car back on, after 2 attempts it turned back on but i was scared the entire hour long ride home so drove in the slow lane so that i could pull right off the highway if it happened again. i took the vehicle for service and they said it was the hood latch sensor. they replaced it and it worked fine for a month or so then again this happened while driving down the road about 40 mph, car suddenly shut off. again another scary experience. took the car back and they said the actual hood latch needed to be replaced. pulled out of service center and it happened again, pulled back in to service center and a day later they called and said hood needed realignment. worked again for a few months then today, again driving down the road, oil pressure low warning flashed on my dash then went off, the check engine light flashed on then yet another warning that read switch to p then desired gear. car then lost almost all power but luckily had just enough power to get me to a side road where i barely made it onto the road before it shut off. i tried turning it back on and after 2 tries it powered on but when i put into drive and hit the gas, it would not move. it was like it would not engage in gear. this is an extreme safety hazard as this vehicle suddenly stop without warning while driving.

I was driving 44 mph headed to a red light intersection with 4 lanes of traffic coming the opposite direction when my jeep shut off i had no steering, no breaks and no engine running. i was moving forward at 44mph unable to control the vehicle and kept hitting the start button. after several attempts the car restarted saying low oil pressure and i was able to steer the car off the road before entering the intersection and getting kiled. car was towed to dealership d'ambrosio auto group. oil was checked and i was advised there was no oil in the engine, the vehicle had 3,650 miles on it and it's brand new. maintenance says oil change at 10k miles. service mgr. told me the same exact thing happened to the parts mgr. sister. i have also been told by 1 other person the same thing happened to her while driving in traffic. service mgr. told me to bring vehicle back in 2k miles and if oil is low they would replace engine at no charge. *dt*jb

I have had two instances within a 2 months of each other where my new jeep compass has broken down and needed to be towed to the dealership. back in february, i was driving about 65 mph on the highway and the check engine light came on, which i thought was strange. i came up to a stop sign and tried to accelerate again, and i crawled through the intersection with no power, rpms shooting through the roof, and my whole vehicle shaking violently. the harder i pressed on the gas, the slower it went. there was oncoing trafic at this time, so im glad no accident occured. the dealership said that i needed two software updates, for my transmission and one other one, and it fixed the problem. fast forward to april 27, 2019, im driving 50 mph and the service engine light comes on again. i come to a stop sign again, and try to accelerate, only for the same thing to happen as last time. i made it home and had my car towed to the dealership again. the said that they did not see a check engine light on and were not able to find that one had ever been on when they checked the computer in the vehicle. this is alarming because it was in fact on, and my whole vehicle was basically disabled and shaking violently. they said since they couldnt find anything that there was nothing they could do to fix the problem unless they can recreate it. there is clearly something majorly wrong with this cars computer system if it randomly does this with no warning, and it is dangerous. it doesnt even work enough to log the history of engine lights that are triggered. i dont feel safe driving it. it is under a year old and only had 9500 miles on it when this happend the first time, now it has 13000 miles on it and is still new. this is a major issue when the service shop i bought it from cant even figure out what is wrong.

Over the past week, i have had about 10 instances where my new (6 month old - ~5k mile) jeep compass died in the middle of driving. i was unable to accelerate, move, or anything. the only action i could do was to brake. during a handful of these instances, i was in a parking garage, gas station or on a side street where i was able to safely pull over and figure out how to resolve the issue. the other times, i was driving to/from work in the city of boston. these events were extremely terrifying and there was nothing i could have done without warning to prevent being stuck immobile in these intersections. when this happens, i have to put the car in park, remove the parking brake (which automatically turns on while driving), then shut off the car, then turn on the car again (where the engine turns over a few times first), then it's "good" to drive again. i took the car to my jeep dealer (where i purchased the vehicle) to have the issue inspected/oil changed. as a result, they concluded that the engine on my jeep has an unresolvable issue from the manufacturer where the engine burns oil more than advertised, unlike the 2016 version of this vehicle.they confirm that no message or engine light code appeared, and the only way to prevent this would be to check the oil constantly. they showed a print out from their system that stated my car has 5 quarts of oil, and each 1 quart of oil should last ~5k miles. therefore, the oil should not be low enough to stall an engine @ 6 months/5k miles. this is absolutely not acceptable in a new vehicle. i have no indication when a problem exists. if i received some sort of warning/dashlight (really anything), i would know the car is not safe to drive until an issue is addressed. however, this does not happen, so i have to manually check the oil when i have no expertise in doing so in order to identify the issue.

Was driving and went to turn and the jeep turned off with no warning. it took me a minute for it to start again. the next day i was turning onto the highway and the jeep did the same thing. i'm lucky that there was an area for me to be able to coast into on the side off the road or i could have been in a serious accident. had the jeep towed to the closet dealership and they informed me there was no oil in the jeep. i had 1k miles left to my next oil change and get my oil changed always before 5k miles. the dealership told me these jeeps burn oil faster than they should and i should buy synthetic oil to carry in the jeep and check my oil every couple of hundred miles. this should not be the solution, as i wouldn't have purchased the jeep if they told me i had to carry oil around with me & check my oil every couple of hundred miles. this issue is dangerous, as there is no warning that your oil is low before the jeep turns off. i travel at least 100 miles a day for work and i don't feel safe in this vehicle and shouldn't have to check my oil every other day.

Car is burning through oil too fast. it has stalled on me (without warning) 5 or 6 times in the past 8 months due to low oil. took to dealer twice and was told to just get an oil change-they refuse to check anything else and that this is typical of the compass. i should not have to spend the money to get frequent oil changes on a car using synthetic oil. i do not feel safe driving in a vehicle that could shut off at anytime without warning. this happened at 8100 miles.

The vehicle was in motion on highway 180. the vehicles service engine light, transmission light, electronic parking brake, and service hill holder turned on. i stopped the vehicle in the sholder. i checked the transmission and engine oil and both were good. i tried putting the vehicle on drive and the electronic parking light came on and stopped the vehicle from going on drive. the light stayed on for the electronic braking service. i was able to take it off the brake still with the service lights on. i was going to shift it into drive when it made a strong popping and screeching sound on the transmission when placed on reverse. i moved it to drive and it did the samething. i tried giving it gas and the d for drive would just blink and the vehicle would not move. i waited 30 minutes and tried moving it but nothing happened. i switched the gear from parking to drive hearing the popping sound as i shifted from the p r n d. i was able to drive it for 10-15 minutes and the transmission started heating up from 180f to 192f. while leaving the vehicle stopped for a while the transmission temp did cool off but i will have it serviced since i am still stopped at the highway with my family while writing this.

4800 miles made month follow up over next week tried to turn off stop/start feature to see what happened for next 6 months mpg. . i have been told it is a coincidence not the issue but my car started shutting off 2/3 into turn, going up a slight incline, couple times slowing down for traffic light, but not at a stop and didn't want to restart. day of car follow up 3 times turning right it dies and low oil pressure flicked on for about a second. was told needed a new engine then today told chrysler engineers said no its something with new car and solvent causing oil issue it was too low but not leaking out/ i'm told they will check oil consumption every 1000 miles and stand by product, local dealer said come back at 500 miles. what if it dies in heavy traffic or on highway? traded an oil burning audi for jeep it can't be good for the engine but now i'm faced with new car and worried it will die causing me to end up a statistic. why didn't light come on earlier and why only a second to warn when the car was already shut down when it warned me? some recalls were made why isn't mine or others i'm reading about?

I was driving my vehicle on a city street at 45 miles an hour when the engine turned off with no warning. the steering wheel locked up when the vehicle turned off and coasted the parking break engaged at 15 miles an hour forcing me to hard break and almost get rear ended with children in the vehicle. i had my vehicle towed to the dealership where it was purchased. they told me it was a safety feature for the jeep for the engine to shut off when the oil is low. the dealership is claiming that it’s with in chrysler’s specs that this engine (2.4 multi-air 9 speed) can burn 1 quart of oil every thousand miles. this jeep only has 3,043 mile on it. it is a serious safety issue for engines to shut off while the vehicle is in motion. this needs to be fixed it can cause serious harm and possible death in a collision. both of the jeep dealership and chrysler refused to remedy the situation. they are forcing me to drive the vehicle for an oil consumption test regardless of the safety issues. *dt consumer stated there was no warning lights and no chime before, during or after the vehicle stopped running. there was no indication whatsoever that the oil was low. the vehicle had not had an oil change prior to this situation due to the milage. the dealership started at oil consumption test which required them to change the oil. dealership is asking consumer to bring vehicle in every 500 four times before determining the amount oil that the vehicle is burning.*jb

Brakes are bad, have been since we got it. they lock up when u hit the brakes. something was wrong with it when i drove it on the lot. something rattleing in the front end. they stopped the rattle but brakes are a huge issue. no matter how light you tap them they lock up. when they are wet it is undrivable. also engine revs up for no reason and the engine kill thing does not work right. its not instantaneous. lots of lag before you can move.. we have been back to the dealer right after we bought it to try to trade it for another one but no luck. i should have walked away when it was making the noise when i moved it on the lot. specially after the way we were treated by the guy who did the paperwork when we declined the extra warranty. if he hadnt been a vet i wouldve walked away. the dealer has records of repairs they tried to make.the brakes have been bad since we bought it and the rest has been going on for a coulpa months now.

Jeep compass 2018 mileage 5188 - on friday, june 21, 2019 i was just leaving my home to go to work at 7:45 am and i was about 1.5 miles from my home when my car just ceased on a major roadway and the dashboard said oil pressure low. i had other cars behind me and was very lucky no one had hit me from behind and i did not get seriously hurt. i immediately called dealer healy chrysler jeep where i bought my car and spoke to a service manager named jeff roscino and he told me that i should take the car to the nearest dealer to me and have my oil changed. he told me that this car's motor was intrinsically designed to burn this amount of oil. i had brought the car to yonkers chrysler jeep which was nearest dealer to me and they did an oil change - synthetic oil put 6 quarts of oil in car - the service advisor said there was a very little amount of oil in car. this car is a brand new car and should not be burning oil it has 5,188 miles on it - there is a serious design flaw in engine and also a very serious safety issue. i do not feel safe driving this car and something needs to be done about these issues before me or someone else gets hurt. selling a car to people with a serious design flaw in the engine is a very serious issue. i have read online that several people had had the same thing happened to them had very low mileage and car ceases and dashboard says low oil pressure. there was very little oil in there car as well. i called jeep headquarter on saturday, june 22, 2019 and spoke to representative and she gave me a case number and told me someone would be calling me back on monday, june 24,2019. it can

Piston exploded out of motor while driving on interstate. vehicle has 7,769 miles when this happened. no dummy lights appeared prior, vehicle was in “neutral” temp range, had an oil change just at 5500 miles and synthetic oil was put in as dealer recommended. i’d like to add that chrysler warranty has hung up and denied any other issues. i’m glad to see other have engine problems and i am seeking lawsuits. any help on this would be very helpful as i’m not the only one related to known oil issues or blown motors! this is such a safety risk i am glad that my family was not with me. i don’t understand why when something like this happens that no one you call for your factory warranty and get their third party call centers that they don’t tell you all proper information, nor are they noting accounts properly.

I was stopped for a red light at a busy multi lane intersection. when light turned green i accelerated and nothing happened. i turned vehicle off then on by stop/start button several times until vehicle engaged. very scary. it just basically stalled. several other things were affected such as instrument cluster indications that were never on before and will not turn off when i go on/off options for those displays. running lights also suddenly will not work. upsetting to say the least. very dangerous. i am not sure but think the start/start feature may be involved as i had it on. it was around 90 degrees outside temp. vehicle has about 11,000 miles on it.

While driving this vehicle at 55 mph on a parkway, the middle dashboard began randomly displaying 'service now' and 'service' needed messages for the hill-assist and auto-start features. it continued flashing other messages that i could not read because at the same time, my steering wheel completely locked up. it would not turn left or right. i had trouble applying pressure to the brakes. this was an extremely terrifying experience because, as mentioned, i was moving quickly on a parkway with other cars around and an inability to control or easily slow down my vehicle.

Bought brand new. with 4700 miles put on it, it had lost oil and stalled several times. my wife was driving. we took it straight to the dealership where we bought it. come to find out, it burns oil at an accelerated rate. many vehicles with this motor, 2.4l multiair, are having this problem. engines are having to be replaced, when they are still new. when running low on oil, the vehicle suddenly shuts down with no warning, lights, indicating its out of oil and that could be very dangerous. if on a highway or wherever there is heavy traffic. definitely see a bad accident happening. a new car should not be burning oil at an excessive rate. please look into this.jeep/fca seem like nothing is being done about this. i called jeep right before writing this, and the customer service rep hasn't heard about it. the dealership where i got it has replaced 15 of these motors already. thankyou

While driving my vehicle under normal operating conditions on a busy street the vehicle suddenly autonomously shut down almost causing a catastrophic multi car collision. vehicle could not be restarted and needed to be towed to dealership for service. still awaiting correct diagnosis from dealer.

Computer message in the car information screen stated shifter service as i was turning on the car. currently there hasn't been a recall on this item but according to the research there needs to be on set up. everytime i attempt to accelerate there is a delay also upon braking just a tip jerks the whole vehicle.

Engine burning way more oil than it should, the vehicle then will seize and shut down. this can be at any point while driving and gives no warning as to when it will happen. jeep will not take any responsibility about this hazardous issue in their engines you shouldn’t have to check your oil all the time to make sure it won’t happen again. the dealership will have you come in for a consumption test and even putting a claim into jeep corporate, they will not acknowledge how bad of a problem that is. their needs to be a recall or fix soon or their will be lawsuits unfortunately when something happens.

Since we purchased this car, it has unexpectedly completely shut down while driving. this has happened approximately 20 times. last year, it was towed to a dealership in the sheepshead bay area of brooklyn, new york. we were told that it was a safety feature that shut the engine down while driving if the vehicle was low on oil. it was not as ascertained by that dealership. this "safety feature" has put my family's life in imminent danger as this has happened while driving 60mph on the grand central parkway and belt parkway in new york. on sunday, may 26, 2019, my son was driving with 4 people in this car and once again it shut down while traveling 55mph. fortunately, he was able to exit the highway before he was rear ended avoiding tragedy. he proceeded to drive to a friend's house on 168th street in manhattan while utilizing city streets. the car randomly shut down 6 more times before reaching safety. i will not allow anyone in my family to drive this unsafe vehicle. it was towed to the chrysler jeep dealership on hylan blvd. in staten island, new york. we were informed that it will not even be evaluated for another week to 10 days. chrysler does not provide rentals nor does my insurance company allow rentals unless the auto was in an accident. i have researched and asked a friend who has the same exact model and year. it is happening to her, too. i am appalled that this problem is associated with supposed low oil in the engine. my son had the oil changed 4 days prior to this latest incident. it is frightening to think that even when this car is allegedly repaired once again, that my son will be driving this car from staten island, new york, to the canarsie section of brooklyn, new york. please advise what steps should be taken. i would like to terminate the lease in anyway possible.

The vehicle has 1700 miles and stalled again while driving. took 15 min for it to start back up. the first time with 300 miles the dealership said the batteries were bad. *bf consumer vehicle stalled twice and was towed. the first was due to primary and auxillary failing and primary battery terminal was not secured to the lead. both batteries were replaced. the second time it stalled was due to starter and alternator cables at the battery fuse blocked overtightened which caused damaged to battery positive terminal. fuse bloc was replaced also during both incidents, steering wheel was inorperable.*jb

I purchased a a brand new jeep compass and 12 days later it went haywire. i was driving in my neighborhood at a speed of no more than 20-35mph. the engine light illuminated and mpg on speedometer read 99mph then skipped to11mph and i was practically at a stand still. i was able to capture video of this. the next day the engine light was off and i figured i'd take it in the following business day (monday). well i didnt make it to monday. the very next day, sunday, the engine light illuminated again only this time then whiile driving on the highway. there was a message across the digital dash stating, "please pull to safety, vehicle will shut down soon". then every light on the dash lit up and the speedometer began to show weird numbers. it looked like a christmas tree there were so many lights. that message was accurate because it certainly did. it shut down on the highway as i was attempting to pull to safety. i wasnt able to capture video as i was scared to death. i took the vehicle into the service department and was later told they couldnt recreate/reproduce the issue. so, after refusing to take it back home, they decided they'd have one of the technicians drive it home to see if would happen again. needless to say 7 mos later they still have my car and now it just doesnt even start.

2018 jeep compass limited bought brand new would not start with approx. 240 miles on it. was parked in my garage. called dealer, was told to call roadside assistance. car started after some time, cancelled roadside assistance. i drove car to dealer where i bought the car. they did diagnostics, said it was software and said car seemed to fix itself. i drove car home that same day. second time ,same issue, car would not start with apprx. 3600 miles . i had just come out of the supermarket. called dealer where i bought the car, called jeep roadside assistance, who left me sitting in the cold for about two hours. cold and very angry i cancelled that tow and used my triple aaa and my local tow guy,(who had the jeep loaded on the flatbed in half an hour) and drove me and my jeep to my dealer. service is trying to fix the car. they have had it for 3 days now and through the weekend. jeep provided a rental for 1 week. this is a safety issue. i no longer feel safe with this car. hoping they can fix it or it is maybe a lemon. both times the car was parked. i have never had a car leave me stranded like this. i do have a case file with jeep and was told someone would get back to me in 1 business day. that did not happen, i called them back and was told i was given incorrect information and that actually they would get back to me in 24-48 hours. so, i better get a phone call or e-mail on monday. jeep knows about this issue. i thought i was buying a safe car.. i don't feel that way now.

In october of this year 2018. i bought a new jeep compass. i complaint to the dealership about. i was told there nothing they can do. every time you stop for a traffic light or come up on to a stop sign. the vehicle stall out. when remove your foot from the brake. it will restart. this can't be good for the starter. it's accident waiting happen. this is a safety issue i have with this vehicle. there should be recall on this vehicle to fix this before the people in this vehicle are injury or kill. when what!!!! if you read all of complaints about this vehicle. there are 94 complaints.

Radio has white lines going down and makes it impossible to see the screen. this is a big issue because it controls lighting of the vehicle climate and most important the rear back camera for when backing up. more than 3 months since i took it for warranty and still no answer from jeep

"takata recall" excessive consumption of oil, the problem i'm having in my 2018 jeep compass is i'm changing my oil every 3,000 miles and before i reach the 3 000 miles i have to buy 2 quarts of oil, and i'm using 100% synthetic oil. my mileage is 8230.

New jeep wouldn't start with 1700 miles on it.failure light came on dashboard.while on the road car dashboard said" failure,vehicle will shut off , go to a safe place" it died and at least i made it to a parking lot. terrifying experience! had to have it towed to dealer.i have had it one month. dealership said it may be an oil module problem that is recurring and it will keep happening! so much for buying a "safe" new car. i am disgusted. they told me to report it to chrysler. they see this happening a lot! why not inform consumers before purchase? i am afraid to even get it back. i don't want to drive it.

When first starring vehicle and driving the vehicle stalls. this has happened to me twice in the last month. i started my car. then started to back out of parking space. i put the car in drive got to driveway and intersection of main street when the car decided to die/stall all lights where on though. the second time i was driving and turned the corner when the car stalled. luckily no one was behind me. i pushed the start button and started right up both times

Automatic transmission, at times, makes a clunking noise shifting from 4th to 5th gear. noted times are when cresting a hill (stays in 4th gear at higher rpm’s until car levels out over the hill) and also when cruising at low speed (30-35mph) when rpm’s are low. all other gear shifts are smooth. i have had it in to the dealership twice and it has been checked for upgrades via computer. one upgrade was made but did not change the transmission problem. i was also told that another 2018 jeep compass was taken for a test drive and it did the same thing, giving the impression that “that is how it is.” this is nonsense and should not happen with standard driving practices.

On november 27, 2018, i was making a left turn with oncoming traffic and the vehicle stopped running midway thru the turn. i was almost in a crash. i got the vehicle off the road and put the vehicle in park. i started the engine. you could not hear it running but the rpm gauge registerd aroun 5-500 rpm. i put the car in drive and it began to run. i call the dealer immediately and the soonest i could get to the dealer was the 29th. i delivered the car to the dealer early on the 29th. the deal called me around 5:30 pm the same day to explain the car was low on oil and this caused the car to shut off. they asked me to do a oil consumption test. i returned the car on december the 7. i started the car that morning and it sounded like the car had no oil it while it was running. the dealer kept the car for 10-15 min and returned it to me and told me it was fine. there was no indication the oil was low. since then i spoke to aj at the dealer and he told me the car was three quarts low on oil when i brought it in on december 27th. i was told that this is a safety feature for the vehicle when the oil gets low. i have had all service done at the dealer. i do not trust this vehicle. this is going to get someone killed.

Several days ago while on the expressway, my jeep compass would not brake at all. we were forced to pull off on the median left side until it stopped.. two days ago, october 10th, when pulling into a parking lot, with brake depressed, the car lurched forward and hit a sign just missing a tree. the passenger front right side, door, back door, and rearview mirror were damaged. this was the second incident. very scary and luckily no one was hurt.

Turn signal failure. signal lights do not blink when the driver seatbelt is unbuckled. unrestrained driver does not have any functional turn signals. turn signal lever depression or elevation has no effect on external signal lights, internal arrows on dash or relay box clicking. no external blinkers, no illuminating signal arrows which usually illuminate in your dashboard console when the signal lever is depressed, no sound (signal clicking) inside of the vehicle while signal lever depressed. the signals function normally when the driver seatbelt is buckled. this is a constant problem and has never functioned normally.

Front display panel flashes off and screen goes completely black then service engine light comes on and engine stalls. then a multitude of service alerts go across the screen and the display screen continues to flash on and off. have to transition the car out of drive and back into park in order to restart the car. happens more when car is at a stop light.

When pulling out of the driveway and going from reverse to drive the car stalled in the middle of the street. this happened a few weeks ago also. i called the dealersip and they said if the oil is low there is a safety feature that shuts down the engine. this car only has 3000 miles on it and is 3 months old. no engine light or warning ever came on. i checked the oil and it was a little low so i added a 1/2 a quart. in reading up on this vehicle it says it burns quite a bit of oil. this is unacceptable that the car burns this much oil and that the car will shut down if the oil is a little bit low. this is more of a safety hazard if the car shuts down while driving?

Rear wheel making grinding noise. brought back to the dealer one day after purchase and dealer service dept said it's a known issue and they replaced all four rotor shields

1 unable to turn the radio volume up or down. turned car off and on. would not turn off accessory mode. message stating car was on. picture to be provided. turned on and off multiple times. problem was corrected next time i started it. 2 while driving accessory deactivated. would not turn on. problem corrected itself hours after leaving it parked. picture of error message to be provided. 3 my jeep was unable to stop at a yellow light. stopped in middle of interscetion, almost a crash. rainy weather.

At around 5000 miles my jeep was almost completely out of oil. i brought this to the dealers attention at the first oil change. brought the jeep back after 2000 miles and again it was low (about 2 quarts). the service tech admitted it was burning oil but will not remedy the situation because it is within spec for chrysler ( burning 1 quart every 1000 miles).

Upon starting vehicle and shifting into drive, vehicle has started rolling in reverse on the incline eventhough the transmission is in drive. upon inspection of the shift indicator, the "d" drive position indicator has been flashing and transmission is not engaged, and the vehicle is freewheeling . per dealer, computer shows no indication of the problem or code information about it. returned fron dealer service on 09-01-2018 at approximately 10:30 hours. this has happened on at least three (3) occasions.

At around 5000 miles the oil pressure light flashes on and off when making turns. i took it to the dealership where i leased it from and they told me it was a "known" issue and to complain to chrysler. they checked my oil and it was nearly 3 quarts low. they then gave me the option to just add oil or since i was close to needing an oil change just to have them do that. both would be at my expense. they also recommended that i come back once a month and have oil added, also at my expense. i had them do the oil change but later in the day it wasn't sitting right with me. this is a brand new vehicle and also a lease, the problem needs to be fixed and if it can't then it sure as heck shouldn't be my problem. i am now afraid to drive the vehicle as i was told that it could stall at any given time and that i could blow my engine if i don't pay attention. i am going back to the dealership to speak with a manager but i just wanted others to be aware of this issue.

I purchased my vehicle in sept. 2017. it has about 12k miles. recently when i'm reversing out of my driveway the brakes will squeak pretty loud. happens almost everyday. i will note this doesnt happen on flat ground (my driveway is at a slope)

When ever i am moving over 65mph in manual transmission, the vehicle automatically shifting gear from 9 th to 5th gear. because of that the vehicle making fearful sound and sudden rise in engine rpm and making me uncomfortable driving on freeways, because of sudden downgrading gear from 9 to 5 that is kind of unexpected and uncontrollable. i purchased the car very recently and it is not more than 2 months and lessthan 3000 miles so far.

Engine shut off without warning while driving on interstate highway. received messages service transmission and service engine. coasted to stop on shoulder of road. car would not restart for about 10 minutes. checked codes afterwards; shows p0339 crankshaft position sensor a circuit intermittent and p0335 crankshaft position sensor a circuit. this presents a serious safety issue when car engine stops without warning.

Steering wheel was making a popping noise when turning. while driving on the interstate a bolt and washer fell onto the floor landing right next to my foot. took it immediately to the dealership and it was discovered that it was a steering column bolt that had fell out. the dealership reinstalled the bolts and had to re-torque the rest of the steering column bolts.

Rear view camera fails. when put in reverse screen goes black

The engine begins smoking due to the failure of transmission coolers. metal shavings were found in transmission fluids, with a poor explanation as to their source or the cause. technicians were only able to explain that the metal of the cooler itself was deteriorating. the transmission cooler was replaced.

Lights of the instrument panel are not able to be dimmed.

I was driving on a county road and the message "service hill assist" came on the screen. i kept driving and the messages "service esc" and "service engine soon" came on the screen. the power steering went out, the screen for the radio kept flashing on and off, and i could not turn the engine off with the push button ignition. this happened two more times as i was trying to turn the car off and on, and i eventually got the vehicle home. this is a safety issue that needs to be dealt with immediately by jeep.

The engine shuts off with no warning while in motion, we experienced this 3 times in the past few months. the last time it happened we almost got rear-ended by a semi truck while driving on the street, luckily the driver was able to pull around us honking his horn the whole way through. i called jeep/ chrysler corporate to express the safety concerns and they advised that "the engine was designed to shut off when the oil was low to protect itself". i replied that the value of an engine does not compare to the safety of my family or other motorist. the dealership traced the issue back to the oil consumption on the 4 cylinder engines, they claim that through their own guidelines it is ok for the jeep compass to burn 1 quart of oil every 2,000 miles (seems high). the engine burns through oil at an alarming rate and is designed to shut off when the oil is low. the 2018 jeep compass does not have an oil pressure gauge so drivers do not have a warning as to when the vehicle may potentially shut-off. i complained about that as well and their response was for me to check and add oil every time i pump gas, something you don't expect to do on a new vehicle. i was told by the service manager that there are a lot of complaints about the same issue but his hands were tied until chrysler issues a recall.

Vehicle stalled on four different occasions on two different dates, twice while yielding to interstate ramp, once while stopped at traffic light, and once while in motion on city street.. vehicle had to be placed in park to restart and did not engage immediately, only after multiple attempts and failed turnover. reported stalls occurred in varyied temperatures. vehicle is 4 months old.

My touch screen just starting having lines through it and is getting worse only 22,000 miles on my jeep

I take my vehicle in for regular oil changes, however, on two occasions they service technicians have notified me that my oil is almost completely out. i have been getting my car services at the jeep dealership. for some reason, my car appears to be consuming ridiculous amounts of oil and they don't know why. the just keep telling me to come back to get another oil change. i'm going through several quarters full synthetic quarts every thousand or so miles. the vehicle is not leaking oil anywhere; as i park in the same spots at work and at home and have seen nothing leaking. i have been notified from the dealership that this is a *separate and unrelated issue* to the electronic issues that are causing the vehicle to stall without notice, while in motion.

When vehicle is in motion it will stall. this has happened on four separate occasions where i was stranded in the middle of the road amidst traffic, in intersections, and once on a freeway. on one occasion i was braking to stop at an off ramp of an interstate. another time i was turning on a residential street. the other two times i was in motion on a straight road. in all these instances i received alerts that my auto start needed servicing even though the dealership just looked at it and cleared the error/code. it was a miracle i wasn't hit when these events occurred. the event happens in this order: gas pedal stops working, so the car begins to coast but cannot accelerate. all the engineer warning lights pop up at once. car begins to beep (i assume because of the warning lights), steering wheel locks, preventing you from coasting your car to the shoulder, then the emergency brake engages so you are stuck where you are. you are unable to start the car or move the car and you are stuck exactly where it died. again, this has happened on the freeway, in the middle of intersections, and while on a regular road. without warning - the car just dies. after about 10 minutes you can start the car up again without issue, but you have to wait until the car lets you do it and you never have a warning for when it's going to happen again to put yourself in a safe position on the road. it's a danger to the driver and surrounding vehicles. honestly, it's terrifying.

After starting car and driving for 2 minutes emergency break engages and car shuts off while in motion, upon turning off the car and restarting while turning right the low pressure sensor appears then disappears and service engine warning comes on car completely shuts off while in motion with no warning after the alarm disappears off dash. this occurred multiple times while driving in busy intersections. it also occurred when the car got towed back to dealership.

This is the third car i own, my first two cars were honda and now i am currently driving a 2018 jeep compass. i have been driving this car since august, on 2/26/19 around 1:30pm i was driving for about 2 minutes when i stopped at a red light and my automatic stop/start turned my car off, i pressed the button and my car started again normally. as the light turned green i moved my foot from the break to the gas and my car did not move. i pressed the auto again and i still did not move, continued to put my car in park and nothing would work. i had to restart my car twice before it would move. this all happened while at a green light with cars behind me. on 2/27/19 at 2:45pm i started my car and while i was still driving pressed the auto stop/start, i get about 200 feet further before my car starts slowing down on its own and shut off. i waited some time before restarting my car. on 3/1/19 at 2:30pm i did not have auto stop/start on, i was driving for some time and my car started to slow down again so i pushed on the gas to accelerate, it would not accelerate and i was able to pull over to the side when my car came to a stop on its own and the emergency break light came on on its own. i waited some time again before restarting my car. i do not feel safe driving this car as it is dangerous to just stop on its own. ** please note the vehicle has approximately 2965 miles on it as of 3/2/19 *

Upon first stop of day-only on first stop, the brakes stop vehicle extremely hard, if not wearing seat belt-you would impact windshield. after traveling for 10min brakes work correctly, this has been getting worse - vehicle is at dealer now and has been for two weeks-with no corrective action yet.

Radio will randomly turn on while the car is off and i am outside of it (doors locked) car will struggle to go into gear sometimes, strong jerk once it goes into gear. windshield whippers will turn on on their own (sunny day) and will not turn off.

The dash lights do not dim when transitioning from day to night driving. i have to pull the vehicle over, turn it off, wait a few minutes and restart. sometimes it takes three or four tries before the lights dim. additionally, the reverse camera display does not dim at night. i have almost backed into a ditch and a tree because i was blinded by the camera display. usually i have to put something over it while backing up at night in order to do so safely. very poor design in both the dash and reverse camera dimming technology. it's not like the dimming feature is new technology!

I bought the compass with 136 miles on it. around the 4500 mile mark my jeep died as i was accelerating on a straight, 25 mph street segment after making a turn 30 feet prior. after bringing the jeep in immediately for service, the technicians found nothing wrong. two days later i was pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy road. a log truck was coming but i had enough time to pull out and accelerate without creating a need for the log truck to brake. as i began to pull out, my jeep died with the nose slightly into the lane of oncoming traffic. fortunately no accident followed. i was able to get the jeep started after a minute and drove straight to the service center. they said it was due to low oil and that it was an engine protection feature. hey jeep/chrylser...how is an engine protection feature that provides no warning a better option than the vehicle stalling in the path of oncoming traffic? since those incidents, i notice i burn oil fast and spend more money constantly pouring oil into my jeep than i do on my 2005 silverado with over 115,000 miles. either install a sensor that alerts the driver of a low oil condition prior to the jeep stalling in traffic or rethink your design! what if it was your family in the vehicle? now my jeep hesitates when i need to accelerate, but does not stall since i add a quart frequently.

I've owned a 2018 jeep compass for 2 months i bought it with less than 50 miles on it. at 3500 miles the engine will shut off randomly. you have to put the jeep in park to restart the car. the cause of this is the jeep consumes oil ag a rate of a quart per 1000 miles and the jeep is installed with a fail safe that kills the motor so it doesn't harm the motor but will leave you stopped in the middle of the highway. the only way to restart the car is to put it in park and restart it.there is no low oil warnings or oil change indicators. the recommended oil change is 5000 miles

After using the remote start and getting in the vehicle i was able to place the vehicle in drive without pressing on the brake or pressing the start/stop button to allow the wheel to move freely, in turn allowing the vehicle to roll forward on a hill without being fully turned on thus not allowing for the power steering to work and the steering wheel locked in position. when in drive the vehicle would not start, after placing it back into park the vehicle would still not start but continued to be able to roll forward when my foot was not on the brake. the vehicles start/stop was completely disabled for for up to 3 minutes then the car very suddenly shook, powered down, and i was able to place it in park and restart the car via the start/stop button and normal operation was resumed.

Transmission shift locked in reverse, when this happens engine will not shut off,shift will not move or disengage, have to hold brake peddle down or have accident. no shut down, had to have someone pull fuse under the hood to shut car off. was in motion in reverse in a parking lot, almost hit car behind me. several problems with this online 2018 jeep compass shifter locking

While driving in a parking lot, my car shut off instantly, no warning. thank god i was not on the highway or that a car was not driving behind me! my husband checked the oil and it was extremely low. car only has, 2,840 miles on it. bought the car new on, 6/30/2018, with only, 28 miles on it. we took the car to the jeep dealership and was told the oil was empty and the engine is burning oil. he said this is happening with this model and other jeep/dodge vehicles with this motor. the mechanic did an oil change and stated to bring the car back after 500 miles to check the oil again. he stated if the oil lost happens again, they would have to replace the engine, with the same type of engine and hope for the best. i think this is absurd for a new vehicle with so little miles on it! fiat/chrysler is no help and will not give any options other than replacing the engine. shameful and shows they do not value their customers time nor feelings. they continue to make these cars with these same defected engines. if you search, jeep burning oil, you will find a ton of complaints.

Second time this issue has been a problem. first time electrical issues prevented car from shifting out of gear and car will not shut off, i had to pull fuses to get car to shut down. emergency parking brake would not even engage. so my daughter had to hold the brake because said auto was stuck in reverse for over one hour. this is a brand new car. it is my belief that this dealership was not truthful in disclosing the issues with this car. web shows several instances of this happening, why has the nthtsa not recalled these vehicles with this same setup. i believe it's times that this car gets replaced by the manufacturer.

On friday march 30 2018, vehicle had 6000 miles and would not start. extreme amount of steam was coming out of the exhaust. car was towed to dealership. internal engine issue (not clearly identified) caused the engine to internally explode leaving metal fragments all over the inside of the engine. the entire engine needs to be replaced. in addition the vehicle was missing a bolt in a bar in the undercarriage of the vehicle, which has been on order for several weeks. the undercarriage bar was an issue known previously.

Multiple issues with car display, and dimmer capabilities. navigation screen and backup camera blindingly bright when dark out, creating safety hazard. had instrument panel cluster software update recall work completed but issue not resolved with recall work. problem persists when vehicle is in motion and stationary. *tt

All 24 warning lights came on and the vehicle came to a complete stop on 3-4 occasions . towed to dealer on 3 separate trips. dealer has not offered another car yet. i was driving and the warning lights came on and the car stopped and i could not get it started back , so i had it towed.

When coming to stops at different times the parking brake automatically engages and car will not move until disengaged. this has happened at stop lights and other times as i am coming to a stop.

Takata recall. i received a notice in the mail about the recall, this was back in december 2017. i've called the fca and they redirected me to my dealership, but neither have called back or notified me about scheduling an appointment to correct this issue. i called a few times and i'm always told the parts are not available, however i purchased this vehicle in november 2017. i have been unable to use the passenger seat for all this time and it is a huge inconvenience and it is very irritating that this has not been resolved. i do not feel safe using my car knowing there is a recall on the airbag. the dealership is napleton's northwestern chrysler jeep dodge ram in chicago. i am told that is the only place i can go to get this resolved. yet no call back!!!!!

While driving between 30-50mph in inclement weather the 4 wheel drive system attempts to engage the rear axle for additional traction. when this occurs there is a intermittent banging noise that emits from the bottom of the vehicle and a bad vibration throughout the vehicle. the dealer diagnosed this as a "over modulation" of the rear axle which causes a binding of the driveshaft. the sound was explained as the driveshaft is flexing in the carrier bearing and striking the exhaust when this binding occurs which has caused marks to appear on the exhaust and drive shaft.. according to the dealer this was a 4 wheel drive module issue and there was no known time when a repair would be available however the vehicle was safe to drive. 3 days after the diagnoses which was the second trip to the dealer for the issue the rear wheels locked up while driving causing the vehicle to skid out of control. this occurred while going around a turn at approximately 40mph on a wet 2 lane highway with neither the brake or accelerator applied at the time. i fear that the issue causes a safety hazard to anyone driving the vehicle with the potential for the rear wheels to lock up at any time. the dealer has reported to me that a second vehicle of the same make and model has had the same issue days after mine occurred. *tt *tr

I just leased a brand new jeep compass. at about 178 miles, i filled up my gas tank for the first time. after leaving the gas station, my car stalled about .2 miles down the road while going about 10mph. the message on the dash states to shift into park and then into the desired gear, but the engine would not turn over.from there, the engine would start and i could drive, but only for a few seconds before the engine shut down again and the steering wheel locked. the dealership stated that there is an issue with the sensor in the passenger side door causing the issue, but i had no problems until i filled up my gas tank. i fear this will happen again while driving on the highway, or on a busy road.

I have about 5500 miles on my new compass. while in drive the vehicle display flashed “oil pressure low” for less than a second. then any indication of that warning light is gone. the engine then shuts down with no warning. no brake lights which makes this extremely unsafe for the potential of a rear end crash. i took the car to the dealership who said that the engine consumed 3 quarts of oil. there was no indication that the car was low on oil until a second before the engine stalled and turned off.

While driving down the road, i have had the radio shut off multiple times, the stop/start feature keeps throwing errors, my temp gauges have went haywire, and the blower motor has shorted out and coolent has leaked out causing the motor to over heat. i have had to replace a tire with less that 10,000 miles on the vehicle. it has been back to the dealership 7 times for a total of 26 days, 1 time being towed. also have had 4 trim pieces replaced. one piece is still on back order from 6 months ago. one piece is fine and the other 2 have already popped off. i have had this vehicle for only 11 months. the first issue started when the vehicle had 1404 miles on it and has had serious issues with in the last 5 months. vehicle currently has 11,400 miles on it.

2018 jeep stalled three times in two days. first and second stalls occurred while vehicle was in the middle of a left turn from a stop sign (5 mph). third stall happened as traveling on the on-ramp (40 mph) to an interstate highway. parking brake light comes on and vehicle is dead. restarted vehicle after two minutes or so to clear intersection. dealer cannot find any reason for stall and "chrysler has nothing on it." definite safety concern.

When using the back-up camera, the license plate lights shine into the camera and the brightness is practically blinding. it extremely difficult to judge/maneuver the car, even if using the mirrors ,and not the camera, to back-up. there is no way to adjust the brightness manually. if other cars/people are in the vacinity, it may cause a safety issue.

Consumer bought car in august 2018 (memorial weekend). upon obtaining the car, consumer noticed that car appeared to attempt to stall when break; however, the engine would kick back in and not stall. last week (end of november 2018) consumer was driving the car and stopped at an individuals home to pick them up when the car completely shut off with the stop/start system warning light came on. consumer turned off vehicle and restarted the car; light went off and car ran as normal. consumer was driving the car today 12/5/2018 when stopped at a red light the car stalled and restarted, putting it into a "power saving mode" where the radio did not work and parking break light came on along with transmission light, and start/ stop light. upon getting the car to the destination (half a mile) the engine light illuminated. consumer turned off car and attempted to turn it back on. car instruments turned on; however, would was observed clicking and would not turn over. the transmission light is still on and the start/stop is illuminated. i have read many of the "complaints" for this vehicle and they are consistent with the same things i have been experiencing.

At about 25 mph the breaks didn’t work when applied and caused an accident, some times the car speeds up even when gas pedal is not applied, sometimes when i shift to drive or reverse the d or r indicator flashing then i have to park and try again.

Factory trailer tow option lighting control shuts lights off on trailer and indicates turn signal light out when lights are fine. left turn signals and brake light malfunction. multiple trailers tested. dealer has replaced trailer control module twice and problem persists. still no resolution to problem. this results in an unsafe condition when towing.

The car was in motion and in a middle of the street turn off, when the engine was checked it didn't have no engine oil on it. the car is brand new not even 5000 miles on it. didn't show any warning before hand making it a safety issue for those like me traveling with children and the car stoping out of nowhere.

Navigation screen lighting is at highest setting while in reverse. the back up screen is so bright that the driver is temporarily blinded by the extreme brightness of the screen then returns to normal when put in drive. this happens at any brightness setting of the instrument panel.

I am requesting fiat chrysler auto repair all airbags that were deployed including dash and seat belts. in addition their was an important safety recall on the passenger airbag module, which is one of the airbags that deployed. fiat chrysler auto has failed to take any accountability. after purchasing a 2018 jeep compass trail hawk, trail rated vehicle, in which three airbags had been deployed prior to purchase, i took the car to my local mechanic and being that the car has never been in any accident, he could not determine how three airbags could have deployed. there was no damage to the frame or original radiator. as a result, i contacted the local dealership and asked that an inspection be completed to examine why three airbags were deployed especially since the vehicle had been taken into the dealership on 1/24/2018, for a recall on the passenger airbag module,recall t73/nhtsa 17v-732, which just happens to be one of the three airbags later deployed. i delivered the car to the dealership on august 10, 2018 for an inspection appointment, scheduled for 8am the next morning. bill completed his inspection within a few hours and called me to let me know that the information had been forwarded to detroit. i received a one page factory stocked letter emailed from fca taking no responsibility for the deployment of three airbags and no explanation. the letter wqs not even signed by a human being and lacked any accountability, and even failed to address the recall on the passenger airbag module, t73/nhtsa 17v-732, as a possible malfunction. the letter is clearly crafted to avoid accountability. i am demanding that fca’s executive team immediately look into this matter and take full accountability for the repair of the damaged cause by the deployment of 3 airbags.

Vehicle leased new began to have grumbling, load humming noise coming from transmission at 37mph. took test drive in another vehicle same noise. jeep said known issue waiting for update. took vehicle back to dealer updated transmission and drive line module. noise still there, if vechile placed in 4x4 or esc turned off noise will disappear. noise sounds like it can be driveline or transmission not in right gear. car is not shifting correctly and rpm goes high. vehicle has stalled out a few times for no reason car was stationary with foot on brake and the auto start off disabled. heated steering wheel and seats get extremely hot. shut down on there own at times for no reason. poor gas mileage is related to engine, transmission and driveline problems

When idling in park, threw a check engine and service transmission light. when attempting to shift into drive, vehicle roughly slams into gear and is unable to switch gears once driving.

Vehicle transmission would jerk or bump hard enough for seat belt tension system to jerk you into the seat. would mostly happen at a constant 30 mph or lower such as a school zone. although would also happen at higher speeds on acceleration such as on ramp or passing another vehicle. after a few weeks of this and after a touch screen safety update to keep the display from flashing full brightness at night, the vehicle was slowing down to turn into private entry of work (gate that requires rfid badge) and shut off completely in middle of the road without warning. vehicles had to swerve out of the way to miss from hitting us at only 3500 miles on the vehicle. lucky we were only doing around 20 miles an hour and had our blinker on. the tech that took 22 days to work on the motor of the vehicle and told us the motor turned it self off after the vehicle oil pressure dropped to 5 psi due to a plastic part in engine clogging. i asked why the low oil pressure light did not come on and he said it is not designed to come on until 3 psi and it will never show cause the engine is suppose to turn off first. this is a big safety issue you have a vehicle that can turn off without warning on low oil level or low oil psi. on nearly any other vehicle on the market if you have an 18 wheeler coming up behind you at high speed and going to hit you and you hear a ding and see you have low oil you can speed up and get to a safe distance to pull over or pull over right then and turn off the motor to keep from messing it up. jeep has decided that their motor is worth more then the life of the people driving them. you should have a choice for when the vehicle turns itself off in order to be able to drive it safely and to be able to make informed choices. you have low battery alert low fuel alert to let you know when it make turn off and why but they designed it to turn off without alerts

The auto start stop has malfunctioned so many times now i’ve lost count. i’ve had the jeep for 6 months. it started the first week. the check engine light comes on and goes off and the start/stop issue light does the same. i’ve had it in and they just clear the error messages and send me on my way. very frustrating! the engine has turned off completely and had difficulty coming back on multiple times at stop signs and stop lights!

I was stopping at a stop sign. i went to give the car gas and it spit and sputtered. cars in the northbound lane had to take the gravel or they would have hit me. i touched the gas and then the gas pedal stuck. it was 55mph hwy and i was already at 65mph. i was going to run into the traffic or take the ditch. i tried shifting into neutral and it would not. i hit the gravel and put on the brakes. i finally brought car to a stop. put car in park and tried to shut car off. it would not.went to take foot off brake and the rpm’s needle was buried. the engine was racing. i pushed both the brake and gas pedal several times and the car finally shut down. there were lights on the dash on an a! and the check engine light. my son in law came to pick me up cause car had to be towed. we looked at gas pedal and brake. nothing seemed wrong. i had it towed to the dealer 78 miles away. absolutely horrible experience. *tt *tr

Has the car 38 days and it stalled on me in traffic: wouldn't shift gears and stated that parking brake was engaged. had it towed. bad tcm. waited 3 weeks for part. replaced. picked up 4 weeks later and had it for two days and it happened again while in traffic. had it towed again. twice my life has been put in danger. i was in motion twice at 50mph when it just engaged the parking break and shut down entirely. check engine light, brake light, track light, every light you can think of came on and the car totally shut down, would not restart, would not shift gears for tow truck, nothing. happened twice. 6/8/2018 and 7/7/2018

Radio (display) keeps shutting off and takes minutes to reconnect, brought into dealership say they cant find anything wrong with it it. has done it 2 more times since then. here a loud noise when running between 35pmh-45mph, brought into dealership and they said noise is coming from drivetrain, found starcase for exact conditions and engineering is working on a soultion, no dtc's. was sent on my way. we just purchased vehicle in march of 2018. not a happy customer!

I my jeep was in motion when all of a sudden it acted like it was going to stall out and then did not let me go over 34 miles ! my check engine light came on and a red light with the lightning bolt came on ! took it to dealer they said it’s because i need an oil change ! got oil changed just to prove it wasn’t because of that and then the day after my parking break came on after pulling away from a stop sign and was almost hit by a semi !!! took it to the dealer last month for the same thing and they just keep saying it’s because of different problems like a software update ! but the codes as what they are saying don’t match ! it’s put me and my child in danger !

I have a humming noise between 30 - 40 mph. i took it back to dealer at 700 miles on new jeep and they told me that is normal. that is the muffler system. now it seems like it is humming louder and when i turn some corners there is a small clunknoise. i mentioned it to dealer and still told nothing to worry about. everyone that rides with me asks me what is wrong with my car.

I bought my jeep compass 2018 in april of 2018. when i was finally able to drive it at night i realized the touch screen and instrument panel did not dim when the headlights came on as it says that it will do. it makes it very difficult to drive at night with how bright the displays are. *tt *tr

Vehicle would not start - error message parking break engaged. push gas pedal and release brake. these operations were performed and the vehicle would still not start. it took several minutes and attempts to finally get the vehicle to start. this is not safe operation of the vehicle.

It makes a humming noise and it sounds like when you are slowing down it's almost like it's shifting down. been doing since i picked it up from the dealer on 01/19/2018. i have had it at the dealership they say the noise is normal . i disagree. i have had a symbol twice come up that looks like this (a)! . my main concern is that humming noise and where is it coming from should i be concerned with the transmission? it happens around 25 and higher speed.

The windshield wiper stalk completely broke apart and fell off. the rear wiper continued to move and could not be turned off and the front wipers could not be turned on. after getting home, i turned the car back on and the front wipers won't shut off and the wiper fluid continually runs, rendering the car inoperable to drive.the car was purchased yesterday and the stalk broke today while backing out of the driveway.

I recently purchased a 2018 jeep compass from metro chrysler jeep ram dodge dealership. upon research the vehicle, i learned about a recall on some 2018 models for the passenger airbag module with loose fasteners. there is concern that in the event of airbag deployment, these loose fasteners could become dislodged and impale passengers. because of this recall, there is a federal stop sale order on all affected vin #s. before i deposited on this vehicle on 11/24/17, i specifically asked salesman if this vehicle has the recall. i was told it did not. i went to the dealership on 11/29/17 to pick up the vehicle and paid in full. on 11/30/17, another salesman called me and said this vehicle is on the recall list. he then told me he wanted to send a runner to my house to have me resign my sale paperwork with different dates on it. this was asking me to sign falsified/fraudulent documents to prevent them from liability for violating the federal stop sell order. i said that i would not resign any documents. i also learned that metro has not reported my car as sold to jeep. the general manager told me he "can't report it" as sold. i feel that they can report it, but they aren't to protect themselves from fines, etc. furthermore, since my car has not been reported as sold, there are numerous obstacles around getting the recall performed on my car. the dealership told me they would have to remove the recalled part from my car and ship it back to chrysler for inspection. chrysler would then either send a new replacement part or return the existing part if it was deemed to be safe to be reinstalled in my vehicle. the manager stated they would provide me a rental car during this period. however the time for which they would need to keep my car seemed unclear and open-ended. overall this entire process in unacceptable to me.

When i adjust the forward collision preferences settings it show me "selected" and i can back to the main menu and come back again to this option to check and continues selected, but when the ecu sleeps (turn off the vehicle) and i turn the vehicle back on after 30 seconds the forward collision preferences are showed set in the default values, my custom values are not saved, so it is very dangerous to trust this security function. also at the time of starting the advance in the morning, when the vehicle is cold by the ambient temperature, the front brakes produce a loud noise when braking gently, as when the abs is activated during a sudden braking, but after a few minutes of normal driving and braking this stop happening.

My fuel efficiency (mpg) is very poor my vehicle, i have 9.4 mpg power loss and the mpg's shown in the official manufacturing web page is epa est. mpg 22 city/30 hwy. https://www.jeep.com/jeep-capabilities/fuel-efficiency.html additionally i am experiencing loss of power during the start of the drive or when starting again the vehicle's progress after stopping at a traffic light or at the time of revamping a vehicle, i have also experienced shaking as if the engine of the vehicle were going to turn off, without going through and the "check engine" indicator does not activate.

Speedometer light and the center dash (gps, radio, uconnect) screen illumination can not be dimmed at night using the rotary knob (wheel) located on the left side of the dash. the illuminaton coming from these screens is incredibly bright, especially when traveling on rural roads where deer, ferrel hogs and other wild animals run into the roadway. i can not see these obstacles and believe this is a severe safety hazard for any driver who travels on non-illuminated roads. the light from my speedometer can not be dialed down when the vehicle is sitting idle, or in drive and when parked or in motion. it has never worked properly and the dealership is not able to determine what the problem is. they are clueless and since the dealership open after 5 pm to observe this problem during hours of darkness. numerous other jeep compass owners 2017 and 2018 model years, have complained of this same problem. deer are the same color and contrast of gray asphalt and they are nearly impossible to see at night, due to the overwhelming illumination from the center display and speedometer brightness. this problem has been occurring since my purchase 3 months ago and continues to this evening. i plan on uploading a video to youtube soon. i am retired from film and television and taught this subject at a private university here in texas.

Instrument gauge cluster lights do not dim with dimmer dial. dash lights are bright enough to turn the windshield into a mirror at night (see insider vehicle better than outside).

Instrument panel lights will not dim on automatic lights setting or when display lights have been on for longer then 8 seconds. the dash lights and stereo lights are too bright to drive at night. have to stop car, turn off car along with turning off all light switches. have to wait for at least a minute then can start the car and adjust the brightness before has been on for 8 seconds. when on interstate this is not possible to do. need to be able to display dash and should work automatically. doesn't matter whether parked or moving. lights will not work on the automatic setting. others have complained. please see this youtube.com video because our issue is the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ajaaemp7w8

Vehicle unintentionally “remote” started in my closed garage. vehicle was stationary.there is no option, either by software interface or mechanical means to disable the “remote start” feature. i suspect the key fob was inadvertently pressed while in my pants pocket. i am aware that the remote start function times out & the engine stops after 15 min but in a closed garage the carbon monoxide levels could become hazardous. this is a convenient feature but owners should have the ability to disable it or possibly a third fob button press would make it safer.

Problem relates to 2018 jeep compass latitude. when vehicle is placed in reverse, the 8.4" uconnect screen shows the backup camera at full brightness. this is blinding and makes it impossible to see when backing up. this is going to cause an accident. there is no way to adjust this. even when the gauges and screen are dim from normal driving, as soon as reverse gear is selected, the screen jumps to full brightness.

Instrument cluster lighting control including dimmer, headlight “on” sensor, dash ambiant light sensor, related software do not function properly. unable to dim dash at night with dimmer control & or “auto night dim” does not function. the blinding brightness of the dash at night is not only discomforting it is hazardous. this fault is well documented on internet forums & youtube videos.

The interior instrument panel and console lighting will not dim at night. this leads to a blinding situation. the dimmer switch functions only intermittently but the ip lights will go full bright after a short while after a vehicle restart. this occurs whether or not the car is moving or parked. headlights are switched on to auto. the lights behave this way day or night. appears to be a sensor issue.

Dimmer for dash lights / gauges does nothing. all interior gauges, controls, dials, etc. stuck on full brightness. very dangerous - makes it hard to operate vehicle at night with glaring gauges.

Instrument panel dimmer does not work causing extreme brightness at night. navigation panel does not switch to nighttime mode causing it to be a safety hazard if using while dark out. backup camera is blinding at night, creating safety hazard. this occurs while stationary, while moving, during all types of driving when dark out. this has been an on-going issue from the day i bought the car with no resolution from the dealer.

The dimmer switch for dashboard and screen lights do not dim. at night the light is so bright that it creates a glare.

1. instrument panel lighting cannot be dimmed: blinds driver during night driving. 2. the speedometer scale does not change from mph to kph. this becomes very problematic when crossing from the us to canada!

There is an issue with the sensor controlling the brightness of the console and navigation screen. at night, the brightness gets set to the highest setting, which is absolutely blinding, and the dimmer switch does does not work. this is a safety issue and is causing harm to my eyes.

The instrument panel dimmer switch is inoperable. the speedometer, and entire gauge cluster, is stuck on full brightness during nighttime driving and is very dangerous as it is blindingly bright in my face.

Instrument panel lighting fails to dim properly at night causing difficulty seeing at night due to the brightness of the display. i am able to get the display to be tricked into going into "night mode" if the display light sensor has no light at vehicle startup with headlights on. at any time if the sensor is exposed to light again such as if a door is opened or interior light is turned on the vehicle needs to be stopped, doors locked, and sitting for one minute for the workaround to be successful again.

In violation of fmvss section s 5.3.2.2 (b) the vehicle's interior dashboard lights are not capable of being dimmed. they remain at brightest level regardless of any parking or headlight settings, and cannot be dimmed or turned off. this creates a dangerous condition during night time vehicle operation. dealer has not been able to correct this even after two visits, and has made no progress in resolving this issue since vehicle purchased one month ago.

I had my vehicle diagnosed due to interior lights do not dim at night leaving the jeep very bright and dangerous. i have called jeep and they refuse to fix the issue or give me a solution on what to do! they still refuse at of today 9/26/17.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 jeep compass. the contact stated while driving 25 mph and approaching a traffic light, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact restarted the vehicle however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that there was no oil in the engine. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not informed of failure. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
