2022-06-10	POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL) \| POWER TRAIN:SHIFT LINKAGE/CABLE/ROD	Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach. Remedy: Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 22S43.
2019-08-29	STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM	Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. 2016-10-12	ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL \| SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP	Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 9, 2015, to August 12, 2016. During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software. This software can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an ABS or ESC system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems” and number 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.” Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS module, and update the service software, free of charge. 2015-04-28	STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM	Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured February 3, 2012, to March 20, 2015, and 2015 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 26, 2015, to February 28, 2015, and originally sold, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, snow or water containing road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply sealer and replace the steering gear motor bolts as required. If one or more of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. 2020-08-11	SERVICE BRAKES \| SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS	Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. An interim letter notifying owners of the safety risk was mailed September 21, 2020. A second letter will be sent once parts are available, which is expected to be the first quarter of 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. While traveling at near highway speed (45 MPH) on a late Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2016, my 2015 Ford Edge with only 9,000 miles, suddenly lost power and I could not accelerate. Fortunately I was on a decline of a bridge, so I was able to coast to the next corner and get off of the main thoroughfare. I was at risk of a vehicle crash, however, fortunately there were no cars following me at the time. The Wrench warning indicator came on, and after searching the owners manual, I called Ford roadside service to have car towed to dealership where it was purchased new only 7 months earlier. There were no warning signs prior to this failure!

On Monday (July 18), the dealer called to advise the electronic throttle body would arrive Tuesday and I could expect my car back Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday morning (July 19) I was called and advised the part is on back-order and not expected to be received until July 29. You can imagine my displeasure at hearing this, knowing Ill be without my car for two weeks, assuming the part arrives on schedule.

Note: The part is on back-order yet Ford can continue to build and roll-out new cars from the assembly line.

The dealership, Tom Peck Ford in Huntly, IL, has been good to work with through this. They willingly gave us a loaner because the Edge is our only vehicle. They have been courteous and professional, and kept us informed.

Ive been researching the Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) and have found it to be an issue for at least seven (7) years and with different models. Im concerned that Ford has not successfully resolved the problems associated with the ETB and continues to sell vehicles with this faulty part putting peoples lives in jeopardy. Im concerned that although the part will be replaced in my vehicle, how can I be certain I will not encounter this same issue in the future, and possibly when traveling at speeds of 65-70 MPH on an interstate? Although this time it occurred while under warranty, what if it happens at 36,500 miles or more? Im assuming Id be responsible for the repair even though this is a known problem, which is unacceptable.

With the many issues documented about the ETB over the years, the many warranty claims, etc., I do not understand why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not issued a recall, and ensure Ford resolve the issue, rather than allowing them to continue to sell new vehicles with this same issue. Instead, they allowed Ford to implement a customer satisfaction program but only for a certain years and models.

The NHTSA was established to achieve the highest standards of excellence in motor vehicle and highway safety, yet I believe they are failing to ensure highway safety by allowing Ford to continue selling vehicles with the defective ETB known to fail without warning, putting persons lives in danger.

In closing, I hope the NHTSA will continue to evaluate this issue and ensure a permanent fix is required to be designed by Ford and that Ford will take this issue seriously.

Please note that because of this major issue, when asked if I would recommend this vehicle to others, or if I would purchase this vehicle again, the answer will be a DEFINITE NO!
