2014 HYUNDAI Sonata

Be aware that my second engine replacement was done as of December 5, 2018 as I wasn\'t able to add both dates above. I graduated High School in 1990 and shortly after purchased my first car which was a Hyundai Excel. I have been a Hyundai customer for years. Hyundai has over the years become a top dealership in this country. I purchased my 2014 Hyundai Sonata back in Nov 2013, what seemed to be a great experience with a reputable company quickly turned into a nightmare overnight please reference to Case # 67265174 filed, resolved and closed with the BBB. No serious issues with the car until around 125000 miles July 2017, my engine seizes up about 70 miles from home. The closet Dealership is Red Hoagland Hyundai, the service guy tells me I need new engine due to the 2011-2014 engine recall due to debris left in the engine during manufacturing. He also says that I would get a new engine and it would take 3 to 6 months. This repair only took about 2 weeks to complete and is referred to a remanufactured engine and not a new engine as previously discussed. On Nov 21, 2018 my engine on my 2014 Hyundai Sonata rebuilt engine has seized up again at 198000 miles. There have been many incidents where either Hyundai Sonatas have caught on fire or caused an accident due to engine fire or engine seizing up etc. My question is this, why arent these cars being properly repaired? How many times does an engine need to either seize up, cause a fire or crash? My confidence is filled with uncertainty and concern for the safety of self, family and others is paramount when on these roads and there is no amount of money that can remedy the loss of a loved one, the car can be replaced etc. My complaint resolved is for Hyundai to represent those already affected by this and more to come by either installing a brand-new engine or complete replacement of similar vehicle. I say this due to people paying the financing on the vehicles when the repair costs exceed the values of the vehicle.

We were driving to Hesperia in the pouring rain just passing the Cajon pass when we heard a knocking coming from the engine & moved our way over to the slow lane & made our way off the freeway. Upon exiting the engine completely died & would not restart. We luckily made our way over to the shoulder to pull over & had to wait over 2 hours for a tow truck to tow us 62 miles home.

This February I started to notice a knock in my engine and noticed that my engine oil was below low. I was surprised because I had an oil change in January. My first though was anger at the Mechanic shop which provided the oil change because they must have forgotten to fill my engine with oil. I bought the recommended engine oil from a Discount Auto Parts and topped off. Two weeks later I started to have a more profound knocking in my engine when ever I start to accelerate my car or go uphill. I checked my oil and it turned out I had none. I checked for oil leaks on the floor and every where that I park but there was none. I filled it up again and checked my engine the following week and it turned out that I was low in oil. Took it to a mechanic where I had an oil change and went through the same again in a few weeks. I was putting oil in my car every week keeping it full but I was experiencing engine knocks and sometimes white smoke coming out of my tailpipe.

I made an appointment at my local dealer on May 12th since I am a teacher and we were testing in my school from March through May 11th and I could not get a day off. My local dealer informed me that my engine needs to be replaced because of engine sludge. They said this was due to lack of maintenance . I informed them that I perform regular maintenance on my car and that could not be due to lack of maintenance. Turns out that their is a recall on my car for engine issues including knocks and engine sludge. The problem is that it is unresolved and the dealer may not provide a loaner for me. My car is part of the Alabama Theta II recall and Class Action Lawsuit Sonatas affected (2011-2014) and Hyundai Motors has been great so far but my local dealer is another story.

It\'s extremely frustrating to learn about the Hyundai Sonata lawsuit. I bought my Sonata from Enterprise Rentals in 2014 December. They must have known about the lawsuit when they sold me the car… They shouldn\'t be able to get away with dumping these lemons on the public who didn\'t yet know about the lawsuit.

My car started to make engine noises about the 10,000 mile mark. What should I do as I drive around 58 miles to work a day. In Minnesota during winter if your car stops you could be in a life or death situation. Can the dealer prevent major issue be replacing the bearing and flushing the engine block out?

The engine stop working, dealer said engine is sis up. dealer didn't want to apply the 100,000 miles warranty because the car was not certified and we are 2nd owner. we bought certify, but dealer wash the hands and said ups it was not, you need a new engine.

My steering system is loose and make the car hard to control at times. i have had a front end alignment done which has not helped. i have hyundai about the problem but have not gotten any help in this problem. i understand the the steering wheel coupler is made of plastic. this problem happens on any street or highway.

My vehicle didn’t pass safety inspection due to the brakes going all the way to the floor when pressed. hyundai case number #16939771 was created and it was taken to tony hyundai in waipio hawaii to be serviced. the active hydraulic booster was found faulty and replaced they stated all was fine but pedal will still touch the floor and brake sensitivity is extremely high causing full onset of brakes while driving at freeway speeds. this is a safety hazard and has nearly cause me to lose control at high speeds several times. i am unable to drive this vehicle on the freeway.

What seems to be random and without provocation, the car will sound a beeping alarm that only sounds on the interior, it will deactivate the accelerator (basically puts the car in neutral), and will display a warning message that reads "hybrid system warning! safely stop and do not drive. check brake". no matter what speed the car is traveling at, it can undergo this problem. if brakes are applied during this issue, it will sound as if the brakes are grinding and are not functioning properly. the issue can only be resolved by putting the vehicle in park, turning off the vehicle, and restarting it. if this is done, the car is back to 'normal' function. it has certainly been a safety hazard as it has done it multiple times in bumper to bumper traffic while traveling at higher rates of speed, and the car stalls out in the middle of the freeway. the hyundai service department has found no issue after running diagnostics, and says there is nothing that can be done to remedy the issue overall. i would estimate this exact issue has occurred approximately 20 times, periodically, over the last 6 months.

2014 sonata limited. headlights flicker when using left blinker signal. sometimes go off briefly. tried different positions on multi witch seems to be worse on auto. vehicle will do it when stationary as well as turning. research this and see this has been a problem on hyundai models as far back as 2009. son has a 2013 has the same problem.

I was driving on a local road and the car started jumping so i pulled down the block to park it and it turned off.

On 4/16/2021, i was driving late in the evening on the 60 w freeway, my sonata just turned off in the middle of driving. luckily i was on the right lane closest to shoulder of freeway, it startled & scared my boyfriend & i. i was able to react in time to safely pullover on shoulder without harming my boyfriend & i or any other drivers, this is a serious safety hazard & could've had deadly results. i quickly shut off the engine & restarted sonata, it was a little sluggish when turning ignition on, car turned on & i was able to drive home safely. the next morning, my boyfriend & i started the car again felt sluggish turning ignition on. i began driving on streets, as i was turning left the car shut off again. my boyfriend & i managed to safely push car off to side out of harm of traffic. tried turning car ignition on, sounds like engine wanted to start but wouldnt. my boyfriend & i pushed car to my boyfriends house. on 04/20/2021, had car towed to auto shop for diagnostic testing for explanation of car suddenly shutting off & engine not starting.

As i was driving my car one day my wheel suddenly became stiff, i was unable to steer. i almost hit two cars while driving, on my dash the wheel logo with an exclamation point came on and sleepy road icon as well. i almost lost my life that day, i went to an advanced auto part because i felt like it was a power steering problem, i bought power steering fluid only to find out that my car is electric power steering. i turned off my car and the icons went away, the next day it did the same thing out of nowhere but thankfully i was in a clear road. this defect has put a risk on my life and will to others, please recall this vehicle.

I was driving 70 miles per hour when my car started slowing down and the check engine light went on. i could not go more than 60 miles per hour on the freeway

My vehicles engine was replaced in october 2020 for a sudden engine stall. now 5 months later a gas smell has come up very quick and strong. my initial search of my vin number did not include my vehicle in a current open recall. as i searched further through the nhsta site for the complaint section and was promoted again to enter vin number is when i can see my vehicle should be eligible due to my engine having to be recalled and replaced with faulty installation. possibly causing my vehicle to have a fuel line leak due to a pinched or compromised installation from engine replacement. the first smell of gas came on this evening after a 100 mile drive vehicle was parked and now 6 hours later restarting vehicle the smell is overwhelming and definitely a danger and cause for concern. this 2014 model has had so many issues and should just be recalled and traded in.

My engine started making a knocking noise that eventually cut the engine off while in motion. as told the recall was about but hyundai claim since my car salvaged, they won’t pay for another engine when my is the recall problem. now when everytime i cut the car on it makes a knocking sound then eventually cut off

My engine was replaced last year because of a recall. since then progressively i've been noticing my head lights will turn themselves on and off at will. at times also the interior dash lights will do the same. where i will have to jiggle the nob to turn them back on again. if i happened to run over a bump in the road the flickers worsen. with everything shutting down early last year i wasn't driving often when the sun was down but now that i am this issue isn't resolving itself.

The passenger rear door will not open, it is a common problem affecting multiple lines of hyundai's for the last 10 years, at least that is what shows in a simple internet search, dealer agrees its a safety issue but since hyundai refuses to issue safety recall they will not fix it unless i pay nearly $2000. only way to even begin to try and open door is to break the door panel - locks, windows and handle all work fine, the the rod/cable that triggers the door release to open. this has been going on for nearly 10 years and still no recall - seems like they want people to get stuck int he car with no wasy to escape

My engine light came on due to the pipe lines over heating i was told at auto zone that i needed a whole new fuel tank the gas light goes in and out as well as the engine light goes in and out

While driving and parked the headlights will turn off when the left blinker is used. headlights will also flicker and then the high beams will turn on randomly. other times the lights will completely turn off inside and outside the car. since this started my battery has drained on 3 separate occasions requiring roadside assistance.

While driving the car started revving,no power,the car was stuck in fourth gear, had to turn car off,for it to run normally,but it keeps happening.

The check engine light illuminated intermittently at 92k miles, then the engine started making noises intermittently, and then the vehicle was slow to accelerate intermittently. the knock sensor software upgrade had previously been installed. the synthetic oil had been changed at 82k and 86k. south point hyundai changed the oil, replaced the battery and turbocharger at 92381 miles. around 93246 miles the intermittent engine noises and intermittent no acceleration and slow acceleration are back, and the check engine light is not illuminating. returned my sonata to south point hyundai who reports the engine is bad, but there are no diagnostic error codes, and they are waiting to hear back from hyundai on how to proceed. hence, the knock sensor software update is not a corrective action for detecting engine failure, alerting drivers to engine failure. the knock sensor software update is not an effective screen for engine defects. the engine noises occur when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street, and on a highway.

Steering wanders on a straight road. driving in a straight line is nearly impossible. more noticeable at highway speeds, but also at city speeds, the vehicle requires constant correction to maintain a straight track. the car simply 'wanders' or 'drifts' left and right, with no real 'centered' feel to the steering. maintaining a straight track is impossible and requires constant attention and correction. the steering wander creates hazardous driving conditions, especially on wet or icy surfaces and driver fatigue, which poses a public safety hazard. the vehicle has been brought to the hyundai dealership over 10 times for resolution, and the manufacturer has been informed twice. the dealership and manufacturer denies there is a problem and states that the individual does not know how to drive and/or that the individual would have to wait for a recall. hyundai us has not been responsive to complaints. cruise control has failed to operate since vehicle was purchased new. hyundai has attempted 3 repairs and are now denying claims.

Every three to five days when push to start vehicle it will not turn on. all lights/electronics come on but the vehicle just will not start. when towed to the dealer or tow driver arrives the car starts again. have had the battery tested and tested bad, replaced but the problem continues. hyundai says "cannot duplicate the problem" and sends me on my way with no resolution. now dealer as well as hyundai regional office refuse to answer the phone or return any of my messages. has happened at least if not more than 15 times.

I have spoken to the dealer multiple times regarding manufacturer recall number162. the dealer's only response is that they have no idea how to correct the problem, so i have to wait. considering that this issue may cause the engine to seize at any time, i don't find this to be acceptable.

My safety issue is that my vehicle would not start unless it is in neutral or it would not shift at all. it happens when i am in park or when i am driving it is in drive but goes to neutral on its own. so while i drive and it does that i have to shift to neutral and then back to drive. sometimes i will be parked and i turn on the car and it won't shift at all. i have tried to take it in and i have called the manufacture and no one thinks it is a safety issue because they keep giving me the run around. i have taken it in and they told me that it was not listed on my appointment. shouldn't that be priority?

There is a strange metallic crackling noise coming from the engine during acceleration and sometimes at constant speed. it sounds like small loose pieces of scrap metal hitting one another.

Upon acceleration, you can hear a rattling/scratching sound in the engine. my car has turned off on one occasion and on a few occasions it isles down very low. i have reported this problem to my local hyundai service center, but no one has a remedy for the issue. this issue is documented several times at the service center.

The headlights continuously go out on the car. the headlights haven't been as bright as they were when the car was first purchased. i have replaced the dim light bulbs at least four times and the bright light bulbs at least twice. i'm wondering if there's a wiring issue

The vehicle does not always start when turning the key. i recently had this problem and had the battery replaced, thinking the old battery was going bad. however, the problem persisted. something that seems to help is changing from the parking position to the drive gear, and then immediately switching back to park, all while stepping on the brake. then the car will start up. so it seems that the car computer does not always correctly recognize the gear that the vehicle is in. the problem persists sporadically.

Brought car in for service and mentioned issue with slipping transmission. was told there was a slow leak and it would need to be replaced under warranty. transmission was replaced but the same symptoms still occurred. dealer then replaced the transmission a total of 4 times before giving the car back to me with the same problem. after an escalation to corporate and many months of back and forth i receive an urgent phone call to bring my vehicle in immediately because the computer system apparently had the wrong part number in it and the transmission they had been putting in all this time was the incorrect one. i am currently still waiting for the vehicle to be returned to me once again with the right transmission in it and see if the problem is now corrected. however, i have no idea what residual issues the vehicle may now have based on having the incorrect transmissions in there for more than 1000 miles.

Driver and passenger windows fog badly in cold weather. defroster has to be run on high constantly but still clears only about 1/4 of windows. the first 10 or 15 minutes it has no effect. i have to scrape ice off inside of windows(1 occupant so not that much breathing going on)you should not have to lower your windows in order to see cross streets in below freezing temperatures. dealer bled the system- helped a small amount. dealer claims everything works fine! very unsafe. 2 winters of this so far.

Vehicle wanders at highway speeds. this is a very dangerous situation and needs fixed. the dealer tells me the alignment is within specs. the problem occurs using all three steering modes. the steering has been like this from the beginning - not a new thing.

The trunk randomly opens by itself - no pressing on the fob. it can happen when driving but usually happens when the car has either been just turned on or off. trunk can be closed when walking away from the vehicle but open when you return. the latch has been replaced in case there was a defect but it has happened since then. the safety issue is when you are driving, all of a sudden you can't see out the back window and have to pull over as soon as you can safely do it - not a good situation on a highway. two different hyundai dealerships claim that they have never heard of this complaint but the internet is full of such stories, especially the electra models.

Vehicle extremely unstable on the highway, and characteristics proportionally get worse with speed. car will pull to the left and right needing immediate input and correction from the driver. the car feels as it is being blown by gusty winds, even though no wind is present. long distances are extremely fatiguing. the dealership cannot duplicate and explains that it could be the electric steering. this is a dangerous issue and needs to be investigated before it causes an accident or loss of life.

2/6/2018-had recall inspection done at claremont hyundai. all systems deemed ok. apparently, the engine should have been replaced. i want hyundai to replace my engine, and reimburse me for repairs. 2019-had 1 instance of engine cutting off while driving on a city street. 2020-had 2 instances of engine cutting off while driving; once on a city street, once on a freeway. very dangerous! 2/5/21-engine cut off while driving on freeway. engine light stays on continually. paid $1,500 for repairs. (1 itemized receipt for full amount, 2 separate receipts for separate credit card payments). engine light remains on, engine continues to cut off while driving. mechanics can find no reason for problem. .

Dashboard is cracked bear airbag on the passenger side. afraid that it might burst. recall for this problem was done in 2012 but now hyundai will not recall. not covered under extended warranty

I would be driving my car and it would just die even if i was on the interstate. and it did it multiple times.

"check charging system" warning message came on while driving on the highway at night 01/08/2021. suddenly no power to the engine. the gas pedal wasn't working. quickly i pull into the hard shoulder. the car failed to start the engine with the same error message. the car lost power shortly after. (the hazard light wasn't working. i contacted 911 for emergency assistance. penndot truck shows up after an hour to cover the road. ( to prevent collisions.) i towed the car to a nearby dealer. contacted by the dealer 3 days later. they said it was12v a battery issue and it's fixed. i went back to the dealer the next day to pick up the car. i paid $388 for replacing the battery. the car won't start with the same error message. i ran into the dealer asked for an explanation. the worse thing is the dealer never ran the diagnostic test for code or anything and assumed it's fixed. i demanded a refund. i made a few calls to check the status of service since then. no one has returned my call yet.

Hybrid system warning "safely stop and do not drive" warning sounded while driving at approximately 70mph on the interstate and the car immediately lost power and was unable to lost the ability to steer as the steering wheel locked! the dealer indicated it was the power relay assembly for the hybrid battery that faulted.

My headlights keep going very dimmed and brake lights consistently burning out in my car. i am replacing them every couple of months. this has been going on over a year.

When my brake light bulb went out we tried to change it. it was melted into socket. took to dealer they said 250.00 for each side. both sides had melted in. you dont just replace the socket u replace wires and all. 250.00 each side everytime they go out. i have since learned this happens in all hyundai models and years. why are they not recalled?

Took our car in for the fuel line recall in september 2020. since october we have been smelling gas here and there. this past week it hasn’t gone away. fuel is now leaking from the fuel line that they zip tied back together. the dealership said they only inspected the line and everything was fine.

There have been previous recalls for hyundai vehicles regarding the neutral safety switch/transmission range inhibitor failing to work properly, but it appears that this problem extends to vehicles outside of the previous recall window. the 2014 hyundai sonata se experiences a similar defect, as searches online will indicate a high number of forum posts and other resources where drivers outline their concerns. specifically, on an intermittent basis, the car will fail to display a gear when starting, showing a blank symbol on the dash and not illuminating the gear shift column. this leaves the car unable to be shifted into any gear. it appears that a wide range of hyundai vehicles have been effected by faulty neutral safety switches, and as i mentioned some vehicle years need to be recalled that were not previously done so in the last 'batch' of recalls for the similar issue.

There is recall 189 on my car (2014 2.0 turbo) for a possible leaking fuel line due to heat causing cracks in the fuel line. a "fix" was performed in july 2020 by the dealership which seems to be wrapping the fuel line from what i have learned. i started smelling fuel intermittently n the following months,, but wasn't driving my car much so let it slide. also my fuel mileage and performance was off. i recently started driving my car more and noticed the smell was unbearable at times. after driving the car i pulled the engine cover off and found fuel dripping onto the valve cover and after a few minutes the plastic quick disconnect fuel line that is part of the recall was loose (i could push it in and out on the fuel pump connector) since it had lost pressure from the fuel leaking. it was leaking between the quick disconnect to the rubber isolator on the line (see pics) and was not clear where the leak was, though fuel was covering the valve cover to the front of the car on the valve cover so seemed like the connector/o ring was not the likely cause. the next morning i started the car and there was not a leak when it was cold (and the fuel line was pressurized), but after driving it for a few minutes i checked and it was dripping fuel again. i contacted the dealer that performed the recall and they said to bring it in immediately. they looked at it and said the line was bad, but since the "recall fix" had been performed hyundai corporate would not cover the fuel line replacement. luckily the dealer said they would and they are currently replacing it. the "recall fix" that was performed was obviously inadequate and could have led to a fire. why wasnt the fuel line just replaced under the recall originally????

I was driving the vehicle on a highway going no more than 45 mph and all the lights came on and it shut completely off. i tried to get a jump but it still didn’t do anything. there was no engine lights or anything on my dashboard besides eco. the car hasn’t had any issues at all. for some strange reason my steering wheel been locking a lot.

With a odometer reading of just under 135000 miles a warning light came on with a message that the hybrid battery was not being charged and then the engine developed a serious knocking sound. we pulled over to the shoulder of the highway. after having the car towed to the hyundai dealership we found out that metal shavings in the oil meant that we needed to replace the engine

Potential sonata fire hazard info.........car purchased new in may 2014. car is 2 1/2 yrs. old with 42 k mileage. while replacing car's oem rear burned out brake light incandescent bulb at home during stationary, owner discovered both rear brakelight bulbs on rt/ lft sides had burned out and melted with normal use, smell of plastic melting and melted both side bulb housing, brakelight tail light assembly and connector wires. both main bulbs could not be extracted for routine maintenance due to melted housing. owner took car to local dealership who had to "crack open" both light bulb housings to replace bulbs for tail & brake lights due to melted fusing of plastic parts. car under oem warranty; suggest you have new led tail lights & assembly installed for less heat and potential melting of assembly.

This is a major issue thousands are having with this model 2014 sonata. when using the blinker, it causes the headlights to completely shut off while driving. soon as the blinker turns off it kills the headlights. extremely dangerous and hyundai seems to be ignoring this issue and pretending they’re not hearing of it often. i’ve had to pull over many times until the lights come back on. seems to be an issue in the steering column. cruise control also decides when it wants to work. sometimes on startup it works, sometimes it doesn’t. i believe it has to do when the car is started. something odd electrically with these cars. but the blinker/headlight issue is causing wrecks. this is wildly dangerous

When using the left turn signal the headlights turn off

My vehicle struck another vehicle straight-on, broadside in a "t-bone" accident at approximately 40 mph on a two-lane, 45 mph roadway on a clear, dry, sunny day with no time to apply my brakes and neither the steering wheel airbag nor the driver's side side air bags deployed. the speed of the other vehicle then caused my vehicle to be dragged across the oncoming lane and up a five foot embankment. only the passenger's side side air bags deployed on impact. the steering wheel air bag later deployed when my vehicle was being towed. my vehicle is a total loss. the other vehicle's two driver's side doors were pushed in past the frame of the car. the air bag recall for my year allegedly doesn't apply to my vin.

The windshield washer on this vehicle is an important safety feature. the water to the windshield washer does not flow from the water pump, which is functioning. i believe this is happening on more vehicles than just mine. i believe it is a manufactures defect. the water pump on the windshield wiper is not failing. what is failing is the line that directs the water from the water well to the windshield. when i took the vehicle to an authorized hyundai dealership for repair they wanted to replace the entire unit/water pump. but the water pump is not broken. i believe this should be a recall issue.

Engine stopped running while driving

While driving this car, it stalled on its own. it’s been running very sluggish - always keep up with oil changes. i see others are having the same issue and it’s very troublesome that with all the complaints hyundai is having with engines, i don’t feel safe anymore driving this car.

Low-pressure fuel im assuming that crack and begin the leak fuel. heat generated in the engine compartment lead to the crack and allow fuel to leak and lead to my car blowing up flames

Steering column feels to have play when i turn the steering wheel in either left or right direction

The headlamp switch appears to have a malfunction. touching it to turn on the blinker or the bright lights can cause the headlights and dashboard lights to flicker.

Sometimes while driving the car jolts back and then the gear indicator disappears on the gear shift and the letter disappears from the spot beneath the speedometer. when this happens and let off the brake the car stays still and when i attempt to accelerate the car struggles to shift gears. also if this occurs repeatedly the check engine light turns on. i’ve told multiple dealerships and carmax about this issue but every diagnostic test save for one never reports the problem and it seriously impedes my mobility.

In park after car has sat over night or for 24 or more hours, the car will start but will not move into gear the car has less than 50,000 miles on it i have had regular oil changes. i am afraid to go very far for fear i won’t be able to start the car and get home. my driveway is gravel and a little bit of an incline. today was the 3rd time in this week.

Started car knocking noise sounded like coming from near steering wheel after further investigation coming from air condition. did it for 15 seconds and then stopped. if the defrost is on is when it makes the knocking noise and the level is on 3. it was only making the noise when i started the car but now if i change to the ac or heat it starts the knocking noise.

I sent you an email regarding the problem. you want additional information. but didn't say what addition information. bottom line is i had brakes put on in may 2020 on my 2014 hyundai, they didn't feel rit., took car back, test ride, seemed ok. these brakes were manufactured by wagner brakes.; .for a few weeks when i pressed on brakes there was a squeal, while car was moving, and lately sounded like steel on steel. while care was moving took car back to jtires plus, brakes were defective, they replaced them with duralast gold brakes. i'd like to know if there have been other complaints against wagner brakes, and i'd like a full investigation of these brakes. the other issue is the recall on my 2014 sonata power train/gear shift; campaign # 123. this was completed in 2017; however, some months ago once the gear shift was in part with motor off, and i turned on the motor the shift would not move from the park position. i had to work with it a while; sometimes after a while i would put the key. next to the shift compartment and i could shift the gear. i'd like to know if you have received any other complaints about the shift gear and how to have a second recall on campaign 123. the other problem is sometimes when i put on the e brake, it seems like the car would take too long to come to a complete stop. the other day after being parked, i turned on the engine, put the gear in reverse, but it continued to go forward. i had to turn the engine off and restart it and then put it in reverse before it reversed. i'd like to know if you've received complaints like this and i am requesting that my car be tested for the aforementioned problems free of charge due to all of the recalls hyundai has had in the past. in all of the situations above the car was on city streets, with the exception of the reversing, i was parked in a fast food parking lot. *js

Drivers side brake light bulb exploded, and melted into the socket. i was advised that you cannot replace just the socket and hyundai is quoting $400 for the entire wiring harness. this is a fire hazard and causes an additional safety hazard with the loss of the brake light

While driving on highway, my car lost control my brakes were not working. only way to make the car stop was to throw the car into park. after stopping my dashboard lights came on, the car stayed on and key couldn’t turn

When driving at night my headlights some times flicker like from high beams to low. this is bad enough, but when they go completely out on 2 lane highways at midnight it is heart stopping. have learned it might be multi function switch ( turn signal switch). to be repaired at my expense even though there has been hundreds of complaints for this issue. rep from hyundai told me he had never heard of this problem even as dealer mechanics says happens all the time.. maybe another class action would get their attention before some is killed.

My vehicle has been under an incomplete/in process recall for over 2 years. i’ve received numerous important safety recall notices from hyundai letting me know over time “the fuel feed line connecting the low pressure fuel pump to the direct injection fuel pump in the subject vehicles could develop a small crack over time due to ambient heat in the engine compartment. a damaged fuel line could allow fuel to leak, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire.” as part of an product “improvement” campaign last year i took my vehicle in to have a light sensor installed that is supposed to notify me should there be an issue as well as slow the vehicle down, i believe. i have received yet another notice to take my vehicle in to schedule the recall repair. i do not believe the problem is being taken care of. hyundai should allow owners to trade in for a vehicle of like kind and quality since this recall is 2+ years in the making and is instilling fear in anyone driving vehicles affected by the recall. repeated notices alerting owners our cars could catch on fire is not a solution.

The tail lights are failing on my hyundai. hyundai is very well aware of this issue and there is several online accounts of it from other owners. the tail lights flicker on and off rapidly like a hazard light. this occurs during the daytime with the daytime running lights and most especially during the night while operating the vehicle. hyundai has been advised of the issue and refused to replace them despite the safety hazard, citing the age and mileage of my car. however, at the same time the installed a new engine in the same car with the same age and mileage.

While driving on the highway, apx 70mph, occasionally my 2014 sonata gls will completely die. this has happened at least 10 times not in the last two months, always when the car is in motion usually at highway speeds. the dash lights all go black, radio cuts off, and engine dies, for apx 2-3 seconds, and then usually turns itself back on like it never died. occasionally though the car will not turn itself back on. when it dies, the steering also becomes very stiff and the brakes are extremely hard to use. my car has only 112xxx miles and has always been serviced regularly. there has never been any check engine light on or any codes stored when checked. i’ve contacted hyundai service center multiple times. each time they tell me that they can’t help me, there are no recalls and i should “check my battery connections”. i have, they are all fine. i’m very concerned for the safety of myself and my three children. three mechanics now have checked out the car and they can’t seem to find any problems.

Steering gets real loose due to a defective steering wheel coupler. causes a lot of play in steering wheel when you turn. the coupler is made out of plastic i think and it wears against metal.

On august 20, 2019, my car's engine failed without warning while driving across a bridge during rush hour traffic. i had to rush to the shoulder closest to the lane i was driving, placing me at the left side or the median of the bridge. my car's check engine light did not show up, so when my car was towed to obrien hyundai they were unable to identify or duplicate the issue. i refused to pick up the car after they had it for several days and after refusing to pick it up, they finally were able to duplicate the engine failure. they then shared there was a recall on the engine and that hyundai would replace it for free. i drove the vehicle without issue, until june 3, 2020. my engine failed while in motion on a residential street. i was able to safely turn around and park my vehicle back in my complex parking. june 10, 2020 i got the vehicle towed back to the hyundai dealership. they told me the engine failed again and i will need another replacement and hyundai would cover it. i have no trust in hyundai's replacement engines if the new one from august 2019 failed in under a year. i never received a recall notice before that point in august 2019 pertaining to an engine replacement. this vehicle model is a death trap and accident waiting to happen that i refuse to jeopardize my life and safety over. *tr

Hyundai installed a software update on our 2014 sonata due to engine fires about a year ago. this software update resulted in the car going into what is called " limp mode" and the malfunction indicator light coming on which results in the car losing acceleration and not being able to climb hills. this occurred when the car was being driven on the highway at 65 mph. once the car went into limp mode it would barely go up hills and presented a hazard on the highway. when i called the dealership they told me my car was no longer under warranty for anything other than engine or drive train and that they would not tow the car into their shop. they also told me i should not drive the car. i had the car towed to a local shop and they diagnosed the problem as a p1326, which i had to pay for out of my pocket. the mechanic told me there was a recall on the motor and it would have to be replaced. i then called the dealership and they agreed to tow the car to their dealership. after the dealership diagnosed the problem they informed me the software system detected a noise in the engine and went into limp mode to protect the engine. they said everything was fine and that the malfunction indicator light and limp mode were a false positive due to the software update that was installed. when i pointed out the inconvenience this had caused me i was told this happens all the time and i would have to get used to it or sell the car. i only have 64,000 miles on this vehicle and i no longer have any confidence in this vehicle to commute long distances. the issue with these false positives and the limp mode needs to be eliminated.

Within the last four months, the car has shut off while stopped three times. the first time, i was stopped at a red light when everything just shut off on me. took the car to firestone later that week to get it looked at and they thought it was something with the battery so they replaced it. the second time happened earlier this week. again, i was stopped further back from a red light in traffic when the car shut off. i was in the left lane in a 55 mph speed zone and the car had shut off right has traffic ahead of me began to clear and i was about to move. both times, the car turned back on after placing the car in neutral and turning the key. neither time did the check engine light come on before or after. the third time was yesterday. i was parked in a parking lot. a few seconds after i had turned on the ac, the car turned off.

I have replaced my light bulbs in the back 2 tail lights within a month of each other. and the light bulbs keep going out. it is something electrical going on. i have also a melted housing light. every time i put a light bulb in. it goes back out. the only stopping light that works is the one it the back window. so only my left light works when i turn on the lights. but no brake lights. just the one in the window. my car was stationary and you could plainly see the lights were not working. and also i had someone to step on the brakes to see if they would come on. and they are not. i did get them to work at one moment. but the just went out when u stepped on the brakes. this has been going on for months now. just thought the car need some work done. but it's only 6 years old. and i should not be having electrical issues so soon.

Sometimes when you are driving, the steering wheel will jerk in either about 2 inches. it is not enough to force you into the other lane but enough to scare you. when you try to correct it, the steering wheel seems to be hard to turn like it is locked. if i turn the wheel back the other way the attempt to steer normally, the wheel is loose and normal. speed is not a factor as this has happened at various speeds from 35 to 70 ph. i asked the dealer about this and they "test drive it but could not replicate it". i was told they could keep it for a week and let someone drive it around and they would try to figure it out. in the meantime, i would be without a car. also, there is an electrical buzzing noise coming out from under my dashboard behind the speedometer. i have actually called a couple different dealers and let them listen to it but no one knows what it is. my local dealer want s to again keep my car for a week to investigate. i took it to them while it was making the noise and the computer said nothing was wrong. this seems to be related to the climate control system according to my experimentation with the noise and changing the settings on the climate control. both issues have been reported to my dealer since about 4 months after i bought the car. when i asked the dealer for documentation, no one actually put my complaints in the system.

My brakes lights keep going out. changed multiples time and they burn out. also the right passenger headlamp keeps blowing out and is much dimmer than the right even when i insert a new bulb. driving on a dark road is like functioning with one headlamp. after having the engine sensor installed the engine light comes on.

When i turn my steering wheel either left or right there is a knocking/clunking in the steering column. this happens whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary. also, while the vehicle is in motion and i drive over a rough spot or dip in the road or cross a rr track, the steering wheel shakes and rattles. i understand this is a worn rubber cushion in the steering column and costs upwards of $300 to repair. the issue/item was a recall on 2011-2013 sonata's, but not on the 2014. this appears to be an ongoing issue with the sonata. why haven't the newer models been recalled as well?

The rear brake light bulbs located in the trunk get extremely hot and melt the light assembly. i have replaced the bulbs at least 3 times per year (approximately 30 bulbs) since purchasing this car in august 2015. i have been told that the reason is faulty wiring by hyundai. i believe this is a safety hazard because i am concerned that the bulbs may at some point reach extremely high temperatures and do more damage than just melting the light assembly.

I was on the interstate during torrential downpour, my car's check engine light started flashing and i couldn't accelerate above 2,000 rpm or go over 60 mph. it was very dangerous. i took the car to the dealership to be repaired. after 3 days i picked the car up, and they said they replaced the knock sensor and the car was fixed. since then this has happened 3 more times. car is currently in the shop. i started researching on my own, and i read that the knock sensor was an update hyundai added after the recall of the engines in these cars. this knock sensor is actually protecting my car (and me) by putting it in 'limp mode' because it senses something dangerous in the engine. i have contacted hyundai consumer affairs to inform them i am afraid to drive the car because this has happened so many times and clearly is't fixed, and i'm sure it has to do with the recalls they have and engine fires. they've done nothing. last time i went to get the car the manager at the dealership said that many people were having issues, but hyundai doesn't allow them to actually fix the problem. they have to do work-around fixes instead of the actual repairs needed. the manger said he predicts that "there will be a class action lawsuit because of hyundai not doing anything to actually fix this engine issue". i don't know who to turn to, but i' am afraid to drive the car. i don't want to be driving down the road and the engine catch fire. i'm currently pregnant and it has been very stressful dealing with this issue. i fear the dealership will disable the knock sensor so that it stops putting the engine on limp mode and then i will have a fire. i also fear that the knock sensor may not work correctly next time and the engine may catch fire. i need the engine fixed. i hope by submitting this complaint it will help get this engine problem solved for me and consumers.

Engine over heats and won't start for several hours. it doesn't matter if the engine has been running for 5 minutes or an hour or more. when turning the key the engine clicks and won't start. you have to turn the key on several times (when the engine is cool) to have the engine start running. i have read this problem has been under recall by hyundai, but my vin number is excluded according to online information. i have received recall notices on issues and believe my car's vin should have also been on the engine recall list.

The rear brake light bulbs located in the trunk compartment get extremely hot which has caused melting of the light assembly. this is an extreme fire hazard. it is believed that this is caused by faulty wiring by hyundai. since purchasing the vehicle in 2015, i have replaced approximately 20 bulbs.

The (mil) malfunction indicator light came on and my car just suddenly stopped running when i pulled up to a stop sign, when i braked for stop sign to make a left turn,while driving, leaving walmart shopping center. i checked the nhtsa website and found that the (mil)malfunction indicator light is under investigation

The ac actuator blender door keeps getting stuck and causes knocking in my dash board every time i turn on car. it makes the noise for few minutes and then stops.

The left rear door does not open from the outside or inside. when you engage the door lock/unlock for the remote or inside the vehicle, the door lock/unlock moves but does not disengage the lock. the door cannot be opened and this is a huge safety issue. there are several people on various message boards having the same issue. the dealer want to charge me $1000 to fix.

I have had to replace all of the exterior lights multiple times due to sporadic blinking, dimness or total outage. this includes all headlights, taillights and turn signals. this is quite terrifying while traveling at night. this has occurred in front headlights the most. i’ve changed these many times and was even warned by police in one instance. the local hyundai dealership wants $175 just to look at it. i have spoken to other sonata owners, and read about many more, who have similar issues. this is dangerous and something needs to be done.

Engine light came on not long after the oil light came on checked my oil and found metal flakes on the dipstick car died still rolls over makes a loud noise when accelerating and doesn't want to accelerate

The problem started with external light bulbs going out. had to replace 4 in the matter of couple months. smell of burning rubber (thought it was gas) , radio restarting automatically. one day was driving down a road, all the sensors started flickering, the vehicle lost power, engine shut off ,came to a stop. i managed to restart the vehicle in couple minutes and drive it the nearest shop. happened at 78 k miles. the shop said they cannot fix this problem, had to take it the dealership where it is now. will take a week to fix and well over a thousand dollars in cost. absolutely unacceptable electrical issue in such a young vehicle, hyundai needs to take responsibility and have a recall. looks like its a very common issue in this model.

Driving in light rain on normal pavement st louis county. approached stop sign at end of steep hill. applied brakes lightly and well in advance but car was not stopping. realized that engine had stopped so nothing was working. car began shaking violently as if brakes were trying to grab. finally came to a stop in the middle of intersection - fortunately nobody was in front of us are attempting to cross intersection in other direction. car was completely dead. tried to restart but nothing. had to move car so tried to start again - starter did not crank at all, but suddenly engine was running as if it had never stopped and all power was restored. drove immediately to dealer thinking it was something to do with engine recall. was able to get to the dealership about 5 miles away with no incident. after 3 days of being at dealer we were told that something in the brake fluid "module" had broken lose and brake fluid leaked into wire harness causing extreme corrosion. they believe the engine never actually stopped running, but rather the electrical signal was momentarily interrupted due to the corrosion. it was going to be a $5000 fix. we did not have car repaired. dealership said they would send it to auction. this car must to be pulled off the road as it is a hazard to anyone who purchases it, even "as is". reported to consumer affairs at hyundai on 11/6/19. spoke to a representative 11/14/19 and was told car would be taken out of service. i am reporting here to insure that it is indeed taken out of service. we could have been killed or seriously injured. wife drives about 35 miles per day and it could have easily happened while she was driving to work.

Headlights and brake lights consistently were burning out in my car. i would go to hyundai and have them replaced with hyundai parts but eventually had to fix the brake lights due to a burnout of the electrical harness in the brake system.

My car has stalled while i have been on the road and will shut off. it has restarted in the past over the course of the last year and half 2018-2019. today nov 1 2019, my car stalled and would not restart. it had been behaving strangely the past week. now i am stuck.

Air bag light on control module failed for no reason. cost me $1,141.00 to have dealer replace control module. i suspect the failure was due to wiring in tensioner recall. after hyundai tensioner recall in 2017 no accidents.

Vehicle stalls when accelerator after coming to a stop. try giving gas it want move or it will coast very slow. after 30-60 seconds it will pickup speed. sometimes it will not allow to reverse or go up inclines. i’ve shaken to two different dealerships and one mechanic shop. was told that if car is not stalling at the time problem can’t be diagnosed. i’ve been on major highways and this has happened which is very scary. when it started happening it would be in a rare occasion now after at least one year it is much more often. now i’m noticing after driving it for two hours continuous the battery dies down and the ac goes out. i’ll turn it off which charges the battery but does not help the stall issue. it started at around 80,000 miles i am at 120,000 now

Takata recall the vehicle is always stationary when i am unable to put it in drive from the park position. i am unable to put my driver's side window up, the interior lights went out, my tail/brake/turn signal all went out the same day. all fuses have been checked, they are fine. the car was sitting in my driveway overnight and the next morning i went to turn the wipers on to clean the window of bird poop and they wouldn't work followed by the clock saying 1:01 and it was around 8:30am. then i noticed everything else, the rear lights were called out to me by another driver on the main road by my house

Takata recall, the brake light & housing for the brake light burns & gets hot immediately after pressing the brake, whether the car is off or on. the brake light also needs to be changed too often...seems dangerous, there's a defect. i took my other car (same exact model & year) to ontario hyundai about 4 or 5 years ago & they changed the housing, stating there had been issues & now i'm experiencing the same issue & it's not showing on the recall list.

In 2018 i started periodically to smell an electrical burning odor while driving my car. my driver's side headlamp went out. i replaced it on saturday with replacement part from autozone. sunday that bulb went out. took to dealership 4/24/18, they replaced it-hasn't gone out again. smelled burning again. received police ticket for driver's side taillight out. took to dealership 6/26/18, explained smell. verified wiring assy/socket was burnt up & bulb melted to socket. called hyundai cs because they wanted me to pay for repair, explained periodic burning smell. hyundai replaced harness & bulb, no charge to me. in june & july 2019, i had been told by unhappy motorists, you have no rear lights &/or brake lights. took to dealership 7/19/19 explained burning smell. was told passenger brake light burnt out. it was replaced, i was charged $44.84. they said nothing about smell. not being happy with the service dept not addressing the smell, i called hyundai cs again. a case was opened. took car to different dealership for diagnostic per hyundai case. they only did the rearend, tech said they had known issues on this. both sides were found to have burnt up wiring assemblies again that need to be replaced. tech reported to me that the last tech at the other shop would have seen this issue at the time they replaced the bulb, if they replaced it! hyundai gave me 2 options; they pay parts & labor-no warranty on either, or they pay parts & i pay labor for 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. i am paying labor for warranty. there are numerous reports online regarding this same issue. i will live in fear of my car burning up with/without me in it. or god forbid being in an accident for rear lighting failure which could result in injury or death to myself and/or others. this issue needs to be fixed by hyundai and a recall & extended warranty time granted due to manufacturing problems!

While i was driving on i-95 the 2014 hyundai sonata all of a sudden started slowing down while i was in the hov lane heading south bound, while i was driving the gas pedal was not giving in ( not working ) so i gradually slowed down with what ever speed generated before my gas pedestal stopped working and pulled to the side of the road and turned my car on and off toward my destination so while i was driving the car started rumbling and performing differently then usually so when i got to my destination to leave to work the car turned on but the gas pedal was not working for nothing so i tried to turn the car off and on again and it just gave up on me, i even got a jump and tried everything because i am very knowledgeable of cars, but when my mechanic checked it out he said that it was clearly a engine problem that was very common with the car and that he just worked on 7 of the same cars with the same engine problem.

The led tail lights are known to fail. the entire circuit board fries itself out. the tail lights flicker and pulse when on, and the brake light will do the same when it is pressed.

I was driving 60 miles an hour on 15 s 930 am in the fast lane. ok had a 3/4thba tank of gas when my car shook and then the speed declined rapidly. i put my hazards on and moved over basically glided to the side of the road. the car was dead. lights and radio worked but nothing else. i had it towed to hyundai hendersen. 4 recalls on the engine and it could have killed me if a car was behind me.

Had my hyundai for about a year now. there are very serious issue with exterior lighting, brakes lights, rear lights. break lighting assembly and wiring harness melts and burns to a black crisp, bulbs burst due to severe overheating during "normal operation" of the vehicle. safety and fire hazard with rear tail light lap assembly, bulb burns extremely hot right through plastic housing unit. unable to replace bulbs because lighting assembly melts to the socket's core and the socket melts over the bulb metal base. expect extreme damage prohibiting replacement of any bulbs. after being pulled over repeatedly, informed exterior lights were even after just changing them.. light bulbs burn hot rapidly, melt to the socket make it unable to get any replacement light bulbs to work because entire unit is then damaged, burnt and melted. bulb will not fit because plastic unit has melted from circular to inward. lights fail without the owner ever knowing until its too late. i've been parked at mall police officer informed me light was out, driving on highway pulled over 7 times given warning, repair orders due to lights out, pulled over on side street, road and lights just go out on highway. by the time bulb goes out its burned the entire unit through wiring, anything touching or around it. change lights every 2, 3 weeks. when changing them i notice damage worsening, metal and bulb are burnt to a crisp. when i replace on side, a week or two later i have to change the other side. creating a trickle affect. once one goes out. another goes out and so fourth. you literally have to replace the entire housing unit which is very expensive. same repeats.. did not work. my front exterior light are now out as of a week ago. meaning i only have 1 working light. i went to the dealership and was told it would be 300 per side to get it fixed because i need new electrical wiring ! seriously !

The low tire pressure came on, so i went home told my husband about the tire we was on our way to putting air in the tire. i went to push on the brake to start the car and noticed the brake pedal was hard(stiff), i went to pull off and really noticed that i was not able to push on the brake pedal to stop the car. i have taken the car to the shop to see what is wrong with it

In july 2019 2014 hyundai sonata as i was driving vehicle stalled. again in september 2019 vehicle did same thing. prior to that as i would put vehicle in park and turn off engine the shift nob would not completely be in park position. it would make a noise like it shifted. took it to huyndai dealership and they were able to approve warranty for engine,but then stated it was going to need new transmission. and that the 3rd shift was difficult. as i look under recalls i see that campaign recall 123 was done 2014. however upon researching came across if dealership repaired a recall and it failed they should have been able to repair the problem. unfortunately i was not getting anywhere with consumer affairs and getting recall campaign 123 repaired.. i needed vehicle running to get to work so since hyundai didn't want to repair something they supposedly billed out. i had to pay out of pocket for transmission repair.

When turning the steering wheel it makes a clicking or knocking noise. maybe the rubber coupler is worn out.

Driver door will not open from outside when parked. not with unlocking with key or fob.

Taillights constantly burn out and work inconsistently. my passenger side taillight currently does not work after the entire taillight connector/wiring harness has been changed due to the bulb burning and melting the socket. the fact that the light gets hot enough to melt thus piece is a fire hazard. additionally my esc light goes on for days and then suddenly goes off. i don't believe it possesses a safety issue due to possible unpredictable malfunctioning.

I constantly have to replace my light bulbs of my brake lights. the light bulbs over heat and then brake. it’s melting the the plastic around the brake lights. i’m afraid it’s going to start a fire.

About march of 2018 i noticed my headlights started acting up. i would turn my blinker on and once the turn was complete and the blinker turned off, my headlights would go off. very scary when it is so dark outside. it didn't happen again until about march of 2019. now it happens all the time. and it happens when i am not using my blinker. i am just driving down the street in the dark and my headlights go out (even the indicator on my dash that tells me the lights are on goes off). i have to jiggle the blinker handle to get them to come back on. sometimes they blink on and off as well. this is very scary as i go to work when it is still dark out. this happens every day now.

I purchased a car from toyota of hollywood in march of 2019. at the time of purchase the dealer kept vehicle for 1 day to make service repairs to the brakes. i brang vehicle back to the dealership in april of 2019 because of noises being heard from car ( brake noises, rocky noises, water rushing forward) but was told by service manager that noises were normal. i brang vehicle back to dealership in august of 2019 at 8am because of additional noises being heard from car (explained to employee) but was told to make an appointment. i called and made an appointment for the same morning at 9am. car was diagnosed with multiple issues ( brakes, rotors, axle). management (ray and michael ) made the decision to hold my car without consent due to safety issues. it has been held without my consent since friday, august 30th 2019. bid patrol was called by managers because they did not want to speak with me or release my vehicle and asked the patrol that i leave premises without my car. i have made multiple attempts to contact the dealership by phone, email and an in person visit( with police escort) but have been unsuccessful in obtaining my vehicle. visited dealership on monday, september 2nd with a police escort and was not allowed on premises. manager would not speak to me, would not release vehicle and requested i contact service manager michael. the service manager did not respond to any of my calls, voicemails or emails throughout the week. on friday,september 6th 2019 i made another in person visit( with police escort because managers did not want me on premises) and managers did not want to speak with me. an employee was sent in place of manager to speak with me and i was able to obtain my vehicle but none of the safety issues were fixed( brakes, rotors, axle). i was given documents i did not want to sign but signed only to get my vehicle released to me.

The vehicle has been at the dealer for more than 60 days and the manufacturer will not proceed with the repair of the safety recalls.

Since owning this car i have replaced the head lamps about ever 2-6 months. the next issue that is worse than the head lamps is the tail lamps. when the tail lamps burn out they melt into the housing so you can not just change the bulb you have to change the entire wiring harness. this first happened on the drivers side and now on the passenger side. called the dealer and they have no wiring harnesses in the state closest one is in ohio.

On 4/24/19 at approximately 5:00pm, i was driving down a busy city driving when my check engine light came on followed by all of the lights on the dashboard blinking. i drove into a parking lot and my car completely shut down on me. it would not turn on or start at all. i had to use my car insurance to have my car towed to my friends house because the hyundai dealership was not within the towing range to be covered by my insurance. i called the hyundai dealership service department at the very beginning of the next day, 4/25/19. the dealership came and towed my car to the dealership. after the inspection, i was notified that i suffered an engine failure and the engine had to be replaced. i was provided with a rental car, which i can use until my car is fixed, but hyundai will need to send them a new engine so they dont know yet when the car will be fixed. i was also told that i would have to pay for the hoses, gaskets; anything that wasn't either a black surface or metal because the warranty does not cover those. the estimate for me to pay would be around $300. also, during the inspection for the engine, i was told the axels were leaking and those needed to be replaced including all of the components of the brake system. i would have to pay the $50 deductible and the warranty would cover the rest. when the car completely shut down while it was still moving was very unsafe, especially during rush hour traffic.

I have recently noticed while trying to turn my wheel out of a parked position, that it is extremely difficult to move. i place my key in the ignition and try to turn it on it does not want to turn until i get the steering wheel turned. when it finally does and it releases the key to turn, i began to notice that when i am turning the steering wheel left or right it makes a "clunking sound". i am also beginning to notice a light clunking while driving at a lower seed when i am turning either left or right. it makes me nervous that the steering might go out while i am driving and i won't have control of the car. the car is 5 years old and just under 100k. i have gone online to a few hyundai forums and i am seeing many, many others witht hte same complaint yet i'm not seeing a recall on this. my fear is that someone may get terribly injured before something is done.

The left rear light keeps burning out very quickly. the housing has had to be replaced and the bulb was difficult to take out, like it was melting to the housing. the bulb looked burnt. also, both my headlights will not turn on normally, i have to turn on my bright lights in order to have any lights at all, and when i turn on my blinkers, the lights turn off and i have to quickly adjust to turn them back on. it if very dangerous! there seems to be a short in the wiring because the left rear light, the back license plate light, the washer fluid button, and the front lights do not work properly. they all seem to have quit working or intermittently quit working at the same time. i have gotten stopped by the police a few times and given warnings because of my dim or randomly non-working lights. this is extremely dangerous and terribly frustrating.

Engine recall it was friday night rush hour raining heavy traffic. while driving 35 mph on a busy street.the car engine stopped,no warning it would not go. i coasted to a stop all system lights were on the . dash board. tried to restart car no use ,car just made noise but would not start. no warning.from the car.now the car will not turn off even with key out of car it will try to start and keeps trying to start.i had to disconnect the battery to get car locked. brakes failed car rolling and used emergency brake to keep car from rolling. towed to local firestone and the reading was not done bc the obd was found just hanging there. car has only 51,000 miles. very dangerous i could have been rear ended. i could have had my children with me.if this had happened on the express way i would have likely caused a very hugh accident.

2014 hyundai sonata was dropped off to nearby hyundai dealership for scheduled recall appointment campaigns 180, 953, 160, 162, and 946 on 04/24/2019. dealership communicated to me all recall inspections were made, and no further repairs or replacements to the car was needed at approximately 11:30am on 04/24/2019. car was then picked up through the sales department at my earliest convenience on 04/25/2019 at approximately 7:00pm. after driving 9 miles on a 55mph street, my car lost immediate acceleration/power causing the speed to reduce without warning, and without brake lights activated (witness to this is the individual who drove me to the dealership to pick up the car, and was currently driving behind me at the time of the incident). after immediate loss of acceleration/power (the car was moving at 55mph), the check engine light began blinking. the car was immediately moved off the road, and a burning smell was detected after removing myself from the vehicle. as the service department was unavailable, the sales department from who gave me my car we’re unable to properly assist me with receiving a tow back to the dealership, and provide me with a loaner car for the cars inability to be driven. at approximately 8:50pm, a tow arrived to take the vehicle back to hyundai’s dealership in which the recall inspections and campaigns were performed. dealership approved a rental for the following day, yet unavailable/unable to be approved until the service department re-opened. currently, the dealership has me in a rental car through enterprise, covering the cost except for $1.00 a day (which is to be paid by me). more so, as this is not my car, an additional coverage charge of $9.00 per day was required to insure me coverage in the event the rental is involved in an unexpected accident. as of 04/28/2019, i am waiting to hear an update from the dealership about my car.

I was driving the call at about 50 mph and suddenly check engine light (malfunction indicator lamp) started blinking and car went into the reduced power and acceleration. i had to tow my car to hyundai dealership and its being repaired under hyundai recall campaign 953

The back door on the drivers side will not close. there is a problem where the close/lock latch will not latch. the door flies open and has to be bungie corded inside the car to remain closed. the door will not latch to close.

Around 115,000 miles my 2014 sonata developed a loud clicking from steering column when turning or going over sharp bump. steering has developed some "play" (no steering response) in wheel-neutral position. problem is getting worse over time.

Was driving my car at 60 mph on freeway and suddenly car's speed dropped to 20 mph with check engine light (mil) blinking. also car was hesitating and wasn't going beyond 20 mph after that. this happened on last friday 4/19/2019. i got my car towed to dealership (fred beans hyundai of doylestown, pa) on 4/20/2019. i was informed that there was an issue with the knock sensor harness and it has been replaced under campaign t3g. i picked up my car from the dealership yesterday 4/23/2019 but my car is still having knocking sound, car is hesitating and i got the engine light(mil) back up again today 4/24/2019.

On 4/13/19 i drove to pa. when i was on my way back right before the commodore barry bridge i got into the right lane exit 4 on to 322 east towards nj when my car dropped gear and then my car engine shut off while in motion going about 40mph without warning. when i looked at the dashboard all of my lights were on, the check engine, oil, transmission,etc. luckily i was not on the bridge yet and pulled into the shoulder lane. i tried to start my car again and it shuddered then came on and remained on for about 10 seconds before it died yet again. i had to get my car towed to mt. laurel nj where a mechanic told me there was nothing wrong with my car that they could find and that all they could find was that i was a little low on oil. this is the second time this has happen with this vehicle. the first time this occurred was about a year ago, i was pulling out of my drive way when my car suddenly died and jumped out of gear even when it was in park the car would not stay still. i had to push the car to the curb where i applied the handbrake. i had the car towed to burns hyundai dealership near mt. laurel where they told me that my front axle had pulled my car out of gear, which did not explain why the engine died. i had to replace the axle again. when i told burns hyundai that there was a recall on this vehicle that included the engine and the transmission which applied to my situation they told me my vin number was not on the list of cars with that specific recall when i clearly told them that it was happening to my car. they told me that there was nothing they could do and that the car "seemed fine" as far as they could tell. clearly the car is not fine regardless what these mechanics are saying otherwise i would not be breaking down while driving. being at 87,348 miles this car should not be experiencing a breakdown without warning twice within two years

Break lighting assembly and wiring harness melts during normal operation. unable to replace bulbs because lighting assembly melts to the socket or the socket melts over the bulb metal base. this causes break lights to fail without the owner knowing. which could result in accident due to no break lights also the traction control system can be effected by this short by shorting out the break light relay.

I just bought this car about 2 months ago, i’m quite surprised to see a air bag light on a car that had less then 100,000 miles from the dealership that was certified preowned.

The software update per hyundais "953" service campaign, when activated, reduces engine performance which could lead to accidents (due to insufficient acceleration, etc.). i had the recent engine software update per hyundai's 953 campaign. on 3/22/19, i exited a highway and slowed down prior to merging onto the next road. i needed to accelerate, however my engine bogged and hesitated significantly. as such, another car quickly approaching had to break heavily to avoid a collision with my car. i looked down and observed my engine light flashing. i took the car in to action hyundai (millville, nj), and they stated that the newly installed software had detected issues with my engine and automatically placed my engine in this low-power mode. i have since learned that i will be receiving a warranty engine replacement.

The driver’s and front passenger’s airbags exploded severely injuring me and my daughter. i was sitting in the driver’s seat, my daughter was sitting in the front passenger seat. i was driving slowly turning left when a speeding van hit my car on the driver’s side. i and my daughter became unconscious on impact because the airbags in my car exploded causing us severe head, chest, neck and back injuries. we were taken to the emergency room at lake norman regional medical center in mooresville, nc, and then transferred to atrium health level 1 trauma center in charlotte, nc.

Fuel leak/ fuel smell / loss of fuel after filling the tank to full mark

Engine completely shut off while driving 75 on the interstate; taken to mechanic who reports that engine oil is full of metal shavings and will need a new motor. the vehicle only has 150,000 miles and has been well maintained so this happened without a warning.

The drivers side brake light melted to socket. i had it replaced & hyundai dealer charged me over $300.00. now the other side has melted and i cant get the part.

I and many others have had to replace rear brake bulbs, and rear running lights consecutively over the past 7 months and they burn out to quickly and are a serious fire hazard. this needs to be considered as a recall because of the hazard with of the harness burning. fix it!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 hyundai sonata. the contact stated that while driving about 65 mph, the vehicle jerked and decelerated. the entire dashboard illuminated. the vehicle was pulled to the side. the contact saw smoke from underneath the hood. the contact's companion opened the hood and noticed that the engine was on fire and called the fire department. the fire extinguished itself before the fire department arrived at the scene. there was no injury sustained. the contact was not sure whether a fire report was filed. the vehicle was damaged but was not totaled. the vehicle was towed to the premier hyundai of tracy dealer (209-820-3550, located at 3480 naglee rd, tracy, ca 95304) where the vehicle was kept for investigation. the contact was provided a loaner vehicle. the contact stated that prior to the fire, the vehicle was taken to the same dealer to inquire about a recall which the contact was notified about (nhtsa campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling). however, the technician told the contact to come back if a knocking noise was heard from the engine. the vehicle caught on fire again a few days later. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number as well as an escalated the claim. the contact was not called back. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 87,526.

On 4/19/2019, i was driving my car at 60 mph on freeway and suddenly car's speed dropped to 20 mph with check engine light (mil) blinking. also car was hesitating and wasn't going beyond 20 mph after that. it went into limp mode / low power mode. i got my car towed to hyundai's dealership on 4/20/2019. i was informed that there was an issue with the knock sensor harness and it has been replaced under campaign t3g. i picked up my car from the dealership on 4/23/2019 but my car is still having knocking sound, car is hesitating and i got the engine light (mil) back up again on the very next day i.e. 4/24/2019. my car is at the same dealership since than for the repair and they are waiting for the parts from the hyundai factory. i also contacted hyundai consumer affairs center for this and case#: 15700612 has been created for this complain.

The issue started to occurred recently when the vehicle reached 98,000miles on the odometer. i did a little troubleshooting myself and realize where the noise (clunk) was coming from. i came to a conclusion the steering column coupler , a rubber material that sit before the steering shaft was going bad. we never received by mail that hyundai motor america was conducting such recall and that it was imminent to get it check out. but they added that my vehicle was expired from such recall. i believe this is a safety hazard and should be taken care of by the dealership.

I have had my car about a year now and i have had to replace the rear light bulbs 3-4 times because they keep burning out. it will eventually lead to a fire with this hazard. the bulb housing is burnt inside and the bulbs were stuck in there from being burnt. also, the headlights are so dim and short out. i have to use my lights on bright and they still are dim. there needs to be a recall for this for the 2014 hyundai sonata before it causes a fire. i am only commenting because i read the exact same thing as my car has been doing and figured if enough people complained then they would realize this is hazardous. this has happened about 3-4 times and i am picking the date below for the last incident. also, it only has a yes or no under was there a fire. i would have picked almost due to the burnt housing. i just wanted to point that out

Brake light failure-replaced bulbs 4 times in the last 2 years using the manufacturers suggested bulb stock number. this is a fire hazard .hyundai recalled 2011-2013 for brake light failures- what about 2014??

This is an on-going issue. originally began mid march of 2019. thus far all have been covered by warranty. luckily, i'd just gotten off of i-95 when the following symptoms began. the engine light flashed, car only accelerated to appx 30 mph, hesitated and sputtered, as if it wanted to stall. on the occasion in march my car, with appx 82,000 miles, was towed to dealership. on, or about, april 5th i was told one of two issues are involved. one was the wiring harness (knock sensor) or engine replacement is required. hyundai authorized the knock sensor replacement and i received the car on april 14th. i f i recall correctly, the knock sensor was a recall issue. all was seemingly fine until june 10th. at that time, the same issues i described above happened, including that the speedometer indicated i was traveling at 60 mph when i was probably travelling at 30-35 mph. my car was towed to hyundai, again, and i am now awaiting their diagnosis. i don't feel anything less than engine replacement will be acceptable at this time.

Lost control of car on minor ice patch on the interstate. when it finally caught traction, it was slung into the side of a semi truck traveling at 75 mph, but the air bags failed to deploy. the driver was injured, the front end was destroyed, and the car was totaled. can obtain crash report and better photos if needed, just don't have them on me at the moment.

My brake lights don't work i checked the bulbs and fuses and there ok

The gdi high pressure fuel pump has a big problem. the car will read empty with a full tank in the car. the spring loaded fuel pressure pump will seize or either temporarily stop working. my car has 62,500 miles and always has been serviced. i have talked about this part with many dealerships and it’s the number one part on the car that sells because how faulty the part is and goes out quickly. i can be on the freeway with half tank reading and the car will shut off on me while driving on the freeway, which is very dangerous considering everyone is traveling at a fast speed and my car loses all power with nothing i can do. i have had a couple close calls on the freeway with near fatal accidents. used auto parts even say it’s the number one issue on the car. and it’s happening to all hyundai’s. it’s poor made and needs to be resolved immediately.

Purchased a hyundai sonata 2014 nov 2016. are very serious issues with interior and especially with exterior lighting, brakes lights, rear lights. break lighting assembly and wiring harness melts and burns to a black crisp, bulbs burst due to severe overheating during "normal operation" of the vehicle. safety and fire hazard with rear tail light lap assembly, bulb burns extremely hot right through plastic housing unit. unable to replace bulbs because lighting assembly melts to the socket's core and the socket melts over the bulb metal base. expect extreme damage prohibiting replacement of any bulbs. after being pulled over repeatedly, informed exterior lights were even after just changing them.. light bulbs burn hot rapidly, melt to the socket make it unable to get any replacement light bulbs to work because entire unit is then damaged, burnt and melted. bulb will not fit because plastic unit has melted from circular to inward. lights fail without the owner ever knowing until its too late. i've been parked at mall police officer informed me light was out, driving on highway pulled over 7 times given warning, repair orders due to lights out, pulled over on side street, road and lights just go out on highway. by the time bulb goes out its burned the entire unit through wiring, anything touching or around it. change lights every 2, 3 weeks. when changing them i notice damage worsening, metal and bulb are burnt to a crisp. when i replace on side, a week or two later i have to change the other side. creating a trickle affect. once one goes out. another goes out and so fourth. you literally have to replace the entire housing unit which is very expensive. same repeats.. tried to replace bulb with a halogen bulb instead and the base and bulb also burned.. under assumption that doesn't burn hot. did not work. during severe rain pre-existing issues only worsen and magnify..

I am having to replace tail lights and head light bulbs frequently. if not mistaken i am changing a bulb out every month on this vehicle. i had to purchase new tail light assemblies due to the bulb melted the plastic housing and the new bulb will not lock in. i also have an issue with the headlights going out and turning back on. i was pulled over 3 weeks ago, due to having a head light out, but when the office walked to the front of the vehicle he apologized and said it was back on. this is not the first time i have been stopped due to either my head lights or tail lights being out and magically turning back on. on going electrical problem.

I took my vehicle to the hyundai dealer and requested an emissions inspection, a safety inspection, a correction of all recall maintenance items, and an oil change. i told the representative that i did not want to order the 60,000 mile service since i still had not reached the 60,000 mile mark, and wanted to wait for a short period since my daughter's college tuition was due this month. the representative requested and drove the vehicle for approximately 40 miles as part of the emissions test and completed all requested services. i drove the vehicle home (approximately 10 miles) and parked it in the garage. the next morning i entered and started the vehicle; however, the gear shift was completely locked and i could not release it. moreover, the check engine warning light on the dashboard appeared. the check engine light was not active prior to executing services. the car was parked on a level surface in the garage and the gear was properly placed in the park position. the emergency brakes were not engaged because the vehicle was not on an incline. a check of the internet revealed that the problem is occurring in a number of sonatas; however, there is no recall for this defect noted on the nhtsa's safety recall site.

Will be driving down the road and the tail lights will start flickering. sometimes one will go out, or not come on. sometimes it the other one doing it.i haven't had the occasion to noticed it when sitting still..

Engine began to slow down...i pulled off the freeway safely as the car beeped and displayed a warning: “hybrid drive failure. place car in p. do not drive” they should also add, call a wrecker, in all fairness. waiting on hyundai’s answer. after tractoon issues in ice and snow in addition to this...when i get this car back, she’s a goner! i need a real vehicle.

Motor began to fail on the highway. pulled over. “hybrid drive failure. place in park and do not drive.” the warning should also have added “call a wrecker.” dealer says hyundai is looking at pictures. car was serviced twice and oil changed regularly. waiting to see what hyundai says.

The back lights are going out extremely to often. i have to change them out at least once a month and when changing them i notice that the bulb is black, almost like they are burning out. when i replace on side, a week or two later i have to change the other side. it seems to be a wiring issue.

Tail light bulbs melted into socket. had to get both replaced. fire hazard and a defect in design.

The left rear light where i place the bulb is burned out. the housing of where the bulb goes has to be replaced. also, both headlights where i replace the bulb has burned out and needs to be replaced. there is a shortage in the wiring in the rear lights.

I have had my alternator and battery replaced within the last month and my car is cutting off while i’m driving it. the lights on the dashboard come on the radio powers off and the wheel starts jerking back and forth and it cuts off or begins to cut off and corrects itself. i was driving in the city during these incidents and the car was either turning or pulling off. once on the highway it cut off while in motion.

While making a turn into parking lot at about 3mph heard very loud bang like a bomb. got out of car and sunroof was completely shatered. had inside sunroof shade closed so no glass came in car.

I have had problems with the waste gate actuator and now a blown head gasket.

I was just entering the city slowing from a 55 mph zone to a 45 coming up to a traffic light when i hit the brake to release the cruise control, as i slowed down with my foot still breaking then released the brake the cruise tried to reactivate. i pressed the brake again and released and again the cruise feature tried to accelerate. i did notice that the 'set' light was off as it does when you brake but the cruise was still trying to speed up when brake released. i purchased this vehicle new, it has a little over 95k miles, but i have never had this issue before. i came to a stop at the light at which time when i released the brake it was not trying to self-activate. especially coming into city traffic this was very concerning.

I noticed as i was using my turn signal as i was getting on the highway at 5:00 in the morning that my headlights had appeared to go out. a few seconds later they came back on. i thought maybe i was seeing things but then it happened again as i was signaling to change lanes. for the rest of the 25 miles to get to work on a busy highway i stopped using my turn signal for fear that my headlights would not come back on. i took by car to the dealer to have the headlight issue and check engine light issue fixed. i was called while my car was still at the dealer that they could not replicate the headlight issue and that they replaced some part that had to do with the oil. of course with the engine only being 2 years old i had to pay. i paid $458 and when i left the dealer the check engine light was off. i let my nephew borrow my car for a week and when i picked it up the check engine light was back on and was still having the headlight issue when signaling. i took it back to the dealer to have the same issues looked at again. a week goes by and i hear nothing but i do get an automated voicemail from the dealer regarding a great incentive to trade in my car for a newer model. no thanks!! i'm done with hyundai. i call the dealer to check on the status of my car twice and get no answer. i drive to the dealer to speak to someone. once again i am told they cannot replicate the headlight issue and diagnostic shows no issues but it could be the turn signal switch. then the check engine light was on because the cam shift sensor went bad. now i'm trying to figure out why this was not found the first time i brought the car in. so now i'm told the shop foreman was out all week and they are waiting for him to look at my car to see if he can figure out the headlight issue. i'm really irritated at this point and will be trading this car in and it won't be with hyundai.

2014 sonata 56,000 miles i am requesting further information into my blinker switch makes my headlights flicker on and off when in use of the blinker. this is absolutely terrifying when this happened friday night... and reproducible; i lost all seeing capability for a moment . as a mother and i travel to and from work during night hours i fear for my safety and others safety. i fear in the safety and design/construction in the vehicle; as stated i would like further investigation into why the headlights flickering, as well resolution and repair. i have found others on complaint sites with the identical issue and same year sonata.

Fire hazard rear tail lap assemble, bulb burns through plastic housing

During a routine oil change the technician found a large amount of metal in the oil filtered from the engine. thid may be due to abnormal wear from a previous recall that was incomplete.

During a brake change it was discovered that the compressor was not decompressing and causing abnormal wear on the brake pads. without knowledge of this it may lead to safety issues.

The interior/exterior lights flash off and on when driving.i have the lights set for automatic-i am traveling both highway and city streets.

Headlights go off when using turn signal. vehicle does not have to be in motion for this to occur. when this happens, inside dash lights will usually be brighter - the same as when the headlight switch is in the off position. this presents a great risk for nighttime driving. not only are you without exterior lighting, but you are also blinded from the sudden change of interior lighting. i believe the faulty part is the multifunction switch because it can be tapped or quickly turned off and back on to get the headlights to come back on. sometimes the turn signal does not even need to be activated for the headlights to turn off - only touched. it mostly occurs when signaling to turn left.

I wos draving on the haiway 75 south tampa. and the motor stop working. and the mecanic sed the motor have problem on piston # 2. and now i have new motor on mi car.

My brakes lights stopped working in mid air. this can pose a danger to other drivers who are riding behind me with my vehicle having no brake indication. this happened in my 2009 santa fe and had multiple rear ends. this is a big concern for myself and my families safety as well as other.

I have never needed to replace my brake lights so they are the original ones my car came with. after being informed my brake lights were out when i went to check them the light bulbs were melted to the socket and have not been able to get any replacement light bulbs to work even with new sockets.

Bulbs will blow within 3-4 weeks after installing them.

Cabin air filter design flaw allows alleged rodent infestation to render said filter ineffective and causes pungent, ;offensive odor to permeate cabin; owner alleges design flaw, ie: failure to protect filter with screen/sufficient device to prohibit alleged rodent invasion. owner retained failed filter as evidentiary.

I was stopped at a light on a city street. when i went to accelerate my engine turned off & wouldn't turn back on. my car was not recalled, but it was under a safety campaign. i didn't receive notice of the campaign until after my engine stopped. hyundai ended up replacing my engine. thankfully i was able to move my vehicle from the road with the help of some nearby drivers and no one was injured.

Wednesday evening, february 27, 2019 at approximately 7:40 pm, my engine lost power and quit running. i was driving 50 mph eastbound on wa highway sr500 turning in a curve when the when the car lost power even though i had the accelerator pedal depressed and the engine did not respond. thankfully it was at a time of the evening when there was not a lot of traffic on the freeway, but it was dark, so when the engine quit, and the power steering quit, i was barely able to control the car safetley off the freeway. when i had determined i was in a safe position, i tried starting the car again unsuccessfully. the engine would not turn over, so i assumed the motor was seized up.

Esc light and hard braking issue(abs module?): esc light turns on and the car applies hard brakes without any action from the driver while driving. this happens while driving on a straight road or freeway (not while turning). sometimes, the esc light doesn't turn on but the brakes still get applied while in motion without any action from driver. it has happened 5 times so far - 2 of those while driving at more than 60mph on freeway but was fortunate to pull to the shoulder safely. one instance of the problem showed up when the car was stationary but with engine running (at a parking lot). as you could see, this is a safety issue putting us in danger without any prior indication or no known resolution. i have taken it to the local hyundai dealer service center but they cannot find the root cause yet. they have already tried replacing brake switch but that didn't help. i have filed a case with hyundai directly too and waiting to hear from them.

Check engine light illuminated, code reading of p2565. wastegate actuator. this is an extremely common problem on 2011-2014 hyundais with the 2.0l turbo that dealerships exclude from any extended warranties. the wastegate actuators are only available through hyundai.

I was driving to pick up my friend and her son, when i notice the car was revving up as if it was in the wrong gear. then it got worse as i kept driving because the car began to jerk as i tried to pull off, and when it checked the gear, it was stuck in the fourth gear. after rushing to get back home my check engine light came on and i started searching to figure out what’s wrong. i noticed a previous recall but when i told key hyundai about the problem, i was told my vin number was covered by the recall

The car was token the dealer, where it was bought, since they had told us they had some repairing to do but the car stayed the same. the engine makes a very unpleasant noise, every time. with the steering wheel, while turning left, it semi gets stuck. in order for that to not happen, you basically have turn it right away. it is at very high risk due to the fact that if it would manage to get stuck, it may cause an unnecessary accident. when it comes to the wheels, every time it turns left or right it makes a very rocky noise. we have called time and time for a reparation or to at least have something done. no one has seemed to really care nor catch their attention.

The headlights point at the ground less than 30 feet in front of the car. the headlights are not level and even. left headlamp is brighter than the right headlamp i must use high beams to see at night. dealership states they cannot adjust the headlight levels or 'replicate' the problem...it can be see by driving up to a wall with lights on. three other people/friends replicate the issue during night time driving without issue.

Car in dealership for second time due to engine failure while driving (second time in shop for engine recall). my concerns are the safety of this vehicle with my family, my home and my community. these cars are catching on fire throughout our country and there is no price on a life.

My vehicle has approx. 84000 miles, has routine maintenance. recently upon acceleration, white smoke expels from the exhaust. the engine runs hot and burns oil at an excessive rate. having to add at least 2 quarts every 2-3 weeks. while driving, the check engine light came on, took car to mechanic immediately who then explained there was so much sludge on the plugs (causing misfires and engine light to come on) from built up oil that all needed to be replaced. after replacing the plugs and oil change, white smoke continues to expell from exhaust. mechanic advised the engine will not last much longer and will need to be replaced/rebuilt.

When accelerating past 3500 rpms there is a clanging sound coming from the engine and you can't accelerate anymore. there has been at times a large plume of white thick smoke coming from the tail pipe when trying to accelerate.

When signaling to turn left the headlights would go off and back on. it happened when the car was parked, or while driving on city streets

I was driving on the highway (about 65 miles per hour) on a smooth road and then all of the sudden i hear a loud popping sound and then i hear air coming through my sunroof. i stopped and got out of the vehicle and noticed the majority of around the edge glass on the sunroof was gone and residual cracked pieces of glass (tempered glass pieces) remained around the edges. i noticed that when the glass came off it hit the rear trunk and scrapped the paint on the trunk.

Led tail lights started flickering while driving down the road. driver side brake light would flicker on and off when brake was depressed. checked wiring connections, replaced turn signal bulbs, nothing would stop the flickering. finally the passenger side tail light failed completely. then about 2 weeks later the driver side tail light failed. these are leds. took it to a hyundai dealer. the checked out the lights. verified power was coming to the lights, but they would still not illuminate. applied external power to the lights, still no illumination. recommendation from the dealer was to completely replace the units. suspect brake lights can fail next without warning to the driver.

The fuel level of the car isn't reading correctly on the dashboard. it is showing that my fuel level is empty at all times, when there is actually fuel in the car and it stays on that level the whole time. the distance to empty the tank is also blanked out and empty and doesn't provide any information. this occurs when the vehicle is driving and in motion.

Hyundai has ongoing problems with turn signal stalk switch assembly, which causes intermittent blinking of dashboard lights and headlamps even while cris in motion. this is a dangerous problem that has been noted in multiple models across multiple years. search any owner forum group and there will be multiple mentions of this problem.

Started a couple of months ago first time it happen the car turned off by it self when running, second time it just turned off while at a red light, have check battery, alternator and started everything is fine fuses and relays are all good, yesterday went to lunch, went to vacuum car turn it off when i was done it would not start up the lights, a/c and stereo come on but it just wont crank after pressing the break still nothing, got off the car and waited about 15 min and while doing research on google one page suggested to that i locked it and unlocked it and try it again and it turn on right away. went back to work for another 4hrs when i went back at 5pm it didn't want to turn on again, i did the locking and unlocking again and this time it didn't work someone came to try to jump start it and it didn't help, we tried everything we saw on the internet and nothing work, had to leave it at work overnight and came back today and still does not want crank everything else turns on engine just wont crank, we have research all night and it seems like there should be a recall on this since a lot of people with the push button have been having issues

I went into the dealership to have my engine recall replaced. my car would not start the following day i got my car back after the repairs. the engine caused my starter to go out. the dealership would not honor fixing it so i had to pay for those charges which i think should have been fixed by hyundai interstate.

At 83, 000 miles on my vehicle my car stop while i was driving. i had to get it towed to a car shop were i was informed there was something wrong with my engine. this car is a 2014 with early engine issues.

When i stopped my car and put in park i turned the key in the ignition to the lock/off position but the key would not turn to lock/off go in the off position. so, the key was stuck in the ignition. i turned the car on and shifted to drive than back to park and turned the car off to remove the key however it was still stuck. i did this several times because i had the same problem two week prior and this method worked. i was by a locksmith that i could was to unhook the battery until i could take it to the dealership.

Brakes lock on car. the brakes are being applied without pushing the brake pedal. the brakes will lock and the car is not able to go without pressing hard on the gas. this has occurred 4 times. the dealer could not find the problem. it happened again on 06/17/2018. the brakes locked again and you could see smoke coming from a small fire by the brake area at the front wheels. the car has been towed to the dealership again.

On june 15, 2018, my car caught fire while driving down interstate 70, near greenville, illinois. there was no warning, just a noise similar to a loose piece of plastic. black smoke billowed from behind the vehicle, and as i attempted to pull over, the engine shut down. once we were on the side of the road, the fire was visible from under the engine. we contacted 911. the car is a total loss. this car had various recalls, all deemed 'resolved' by hyundai. they did extend the warranty due to the known issues. i have reached out to them daily and have not heard back.

I went for an oil change, and they listened to my engine for the engine recall. i told the service department that it was the noisiest starting car i have ever owned. i believe they out an oil additive in it to quiet my engine before testing it to try to avoid replacing the engine. it is suddenly the quietest starting car i have ever owned. this upsets me greatly, as i believe they are not honoring the engine recall by using an engine quieting additive. i have been working on cars for over 40 years. i am very jn happy that this is happening.

We were driving to hesperia in the pouring rain just passing the cajon pass on the freeway when we heard a knocking coming from the engine & moved our way over to the slow lane & made our way off the freeway. upon exiting the engine completely died while we were driving & would not restart. we luckily made our way over to the shoulder to pull over & had to wait over 2 hours for a tow truck to tow us 62 miles home.

Hyundai sonata engine failure. i was driving and my car stalled in the middle of the road. i put it in park and put my hazards on. i proceeded to start the car and when i did, the car caught on fire. smelled like wires on fire. hyundai was notified and my car was towed and fixed at the dealership. it took about 6 weeks to fix. to my disappoinment, hyundai is only offering 12k miles or one year warranty. this car has had several recalls and i have brought it to the dealer for every one of them. i spent 30k on this car (hyundai sonata 2.0t) love the look of it but not reliable. i have sent them a letter to ask for a better warranty on the "new" engine they replaced.

The headlights and breaklights on thw passenger side of vehicle keep blowing. i have changed them out several times and need to change my break light out again now. it is getting to be an expensive problem.

Our 2014 hyundai sonata gls 4-door sedan came equipped with kumho solus kh 25 tires, size 205/65r16. the car has approximately 27,000 miles. when removing a flat tire, i noticed that small chunks of rubber were coming off of the tire. i then checked the other three tires & found the same problem. some of those rubber chunks coming off were along the edges & some were in the central part of the tires. i called the manufacturer & was referred to an authorized dealer, kauffman tires in this care. they claimed that this is not a warranty issue so they stated that nothing could be done except to sell me new tires & other car services. it seems to me that this is abnormal for tires to be failing after only approximately 27,000 miles. since i'm concerned about safety, i will be replacing all four tires but not with kumho tires. i certainly never buy that brand of tire &, will check to see what brand of tires are on any car that i will buy in the future to be sure that they aren't kumho tires

My car was parked in front of my house when the sun roof shattered. there was broken glass everywhere. i have a picture but i need help to send. at first i thought that it was vandalism, but the entire glass was shattered and the was no projectiles in the area.

I own a new 2014 hyundai sonata, and my main concern from what i recently have researched is that some of these vehicles are prone to major motor and power train problems, that can lead to fatalities. i understand that the nhtsa has been notified of these problems, and there is a current class action lawsuit pending. what i'd like to ask is, why a recall has not been issued by the agency, given the grave nature that one of these motors could potentially seize while driving at high speed and can very well lead to fatalities. a personal note: when i first bought the vehicle. in august 2014, it stalled once, while driving at 5-10 miles mph, i took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with it. it has not happened ever since.

Brakes fail to depress during attempts to start car, occurs at least once per day. occasionally, when parking car, park position does not register and alarms sound when you try to lock car. occasional transmission slip during stop and go type traffic conditions.

While driving the car, it needs constant steering correction due to drifting - right left -- doesn't matter -- wherever the road takes it. it is more prevalent at highway speeds. it has been happening since the car was new (3/26/2014). the most recent occurrence was 7/9/2016.

4 kumho tires, original tires with less than 30,000 miles & 2 years age are chipping away on the tread. contacted hyundai & kumho & they were denying any defects. these tires seem defective & tread separation at highway speed is possible making them very unsafe. these tires were used on city streets & state highways only. *tr

I have a push button ignition. three times this past week, my car has failed to start. when i press the button, all of the lights come on, but the engine does not turn over and when trying to press the break in conjunction with pressing the push start engine button, the break pedal is stiff and does not press downward. the third time this occurred, i was stranded for 1.5 hours. my brother came to give me a "jump" as he thought it was my battery only for sparks to come from my battery and for his cables to get so hot that they melted. i had my car owed to allen samuel's hyundai in north richland hills, tx the next morning only to be told that because they are unable to "recreate" the issue, there is nothing they can do. i also reached out to hyundai and was told that since there are no recalls, there is nothing they can do. this is a safety issue and because they are unable to recreate or do not have any recalls, then i am stuck with a lemon car. the second issue i have been facing (which has been ongoing) is the sensor in my gas tank recognizes my tank as "full" when i fill up with gas but this is not indicated on the gas hand readout. again, this was brought to hyundai's attention and because they can't "see it", "recreate it" and there are no "recalls", then there is nothing that they can do. again, this is another safety hazard as i may think i have a certain amount of gas in my car when in reality i do not. the first issue occurs when the car is stationary. the first time i was at home, the second time i was at work and the last time (most recent) i was at a restaurant. i believe the cause of both issues are sensors with the break that connects it to the push button and a sensor in the tank that connects it to the gas hand. the gas hand issues occurs each time i put gas in my car.

At 70 mph (and higher speeds and some lower) 2014 sonata weaves all over the lane from one side to the other with no driver control except to keep trying to straighten it out. it is an extremely dangerous situation and hyundai dealers are denying any problem even though 2011's were recalled for this very issue and 2013's have numerous complaints and 2014's as well.

I heard a grinding engine noise from the car. i took it in to ask what the terrrible sound was, i was told the computer pulled a "internal engine failure" code and it was no longer able to be driven. i was told they had a recall on earlier models but not the year 2014. i was told it needed a new engine, metallic flakes were found upon investigation at hyundai. i was told if the car continued to be driven it had a high risk of seizing up during use which would cause an accident. i was told it was recalled then later told that year 2014 had not yet been recalled, but that it was covered under warranty. they have had the vehicle for 2 months now and are stating i need to call the consumer protection agency and notify them of the situation to encourage a recall.

As i was exciting the freeway i began to hear a "knocking" sound, as i made the turn on to the street the car completely shut down and all the lights on my dashboard came on. since i was in the middle of the street i attempted to restart the car and after initially starting up it then abruptly turn off once again about 20 seconds later. at this point i managaged to pull into a parking lot with the left over momentum. had to get it towed to the newrest hyundai dealer. after they inspected it, they determined my crankshaft had seized and 2 and half weeks later here i am still waiting for an engine they say is on backorder.

Was on highway north ga when i tried to pass someone and the engine just stopped. towed it to the dealer where i bought it. the dealerts hip tore the engine down to find metal shavings in the oil pan also scarring on the lifters and valves this is 2014 sonata with 107,000 miles. i was also made aware that this problem has acured in earlier models. hyundai is replacing my engine with a new one also have a loaner car while mine is being repaired

Car has just over 30,000 miles on it. started shaking while we were driving it. we took it into the dealership within 15 minutes. the dealership stated that the engine blew and that there was no oil in it. oil was changed regularly and no oil pressure notification indicated low oil.

Hesitation and delays in acceleration when driving from 0 - 30 mph. originally it started with the rpms dropping way down before catching. brought the car in for service and they replaced a brake sensor. the problem became much worse. when reaching 30 mph the transmission felt like it went into neutral and had a problem catching. rpms jumped way up to 4 and revved 3 times before catching. leaving me unable to have control over the car. very scary. the car has been at the dealership for a week and will not duplicate the problem when driven by the mechanics and is not throwing any codes. according to the dealership they are unable to fix this because they do not know what the problem is. i am being told to bring it back if it happens again. the majority of my driving is city driving. my commute to work is approximately 30 miles round trip, 5 days a week and seemed to get worse in the rain.

Had a near death incident at freeway speeds in heavy rain when the car lost total control, hydro-planed from the 2nd to left lane and hit the cement barricade on the left and in the process the steering wheel is locked along with the brakes and with that impact, ricocheted all the way to the right hand shoulder of a 4-lane freeway before coming to a stop. freeway is 280 s (san francisco to san jose). location was palo alto, just a few miles after sand hill rd exit (menlo park) where the freeway is just straight for miles without any steep curves. have driven so many other brands over the last 20 years in heavy rain on the same freeway without an incident. the car cannot handle freeway speeds and became very unstable. could be defective tires, their technology controlling the wet traction which caused hydroplaning etc fortunately there were no other cars in proximity else could have been a bigger accident.

My vehicle has for the last year showed signs of the recall and we have gotten a hyundai to fix it with a ring but the next day the vehicle showed the same things. the symbol in the middle that displays drive when it disappears the car struggles to accelerate and drive , and when i come to a complete stop with it disappereared the car takes alot of gas to accelerate. which i believe is from the transmission and the car not being on the same page.. which is terrible as it can cost a lost of life due to the car suddenly stopping and it is a extreme hazard to myself and my family. and i wish that hyundai would do something or replace the vehicle.

I have had this car for 4 months and this incident has happened twice in 2 months. i get in the car and put my key in turn it over & the steering wheel locks up and i have to keep working with it to get it unlocked. both times it happened it has been annoying to fight with it. my car was under my carport and wheels & steering in straight ahead mode. i feel there is something causing this problem. also, i have had my a/c to freeze up on a 3hr. trip. my husband checked it and there is no leak and is showing normal. so what caused this problem... very concerned about these issues....

Approximately 4 pm on august 24, 2015 driving my 2014 sonata limited with 11450 miles onto the local freeway on ramp, car stalled and total loss of steering occurred. i had just enough time to get the vehicle to side and avoid possible collision from behind. had absolutely no warning, and was driving normal for the clear road driving. weather was good, clear and sunny, upper 80f. traffic was starting to build for rush hour and had this occurred 5 minutes later major collision would have occurred due to traffic congestion on freeway during that time. at the time of occurrence it felt as if i had a flat tire with the front wheels wanting to turn in direction of weaker tire side. complete and total loss of power both electrical and engine were immediate. i placed shifter in neutral as quickly as possible maintaining some momentum to get car to side of road while trying to restart it. vehicle started but i did not have any steering control at all. hyundai bluelink roadside assistant then called and summoned a tow truck to take it to local dealer for warranty service and repair. service technician has stated that the steering column needs to be replaced. no indication as to what caused the fault to occur and to whether the cause of the fault has been determined.

Went to start the car all it did was go click. tried different key fob, it started, replace both batteries in key fobs. next week, wouldn't start, let it set for a bit, it started, week later on a saturday tried would not start, called hyundai 24 hr road service, they had trouble starting it. next morning it started, 6 hrs later it wouldn't start, moved the shift lever from park to drive back to park like the road service guy did, it started. it started the next morning monday 6/22/15 took it to the dealer, said they couldn't find anything wrong, even though the battery shows a charge of 10 volts. i have a print out from pep boys showing that the battery needs replaced soon as it may not start a car. which they were right. hyundai corp. could care less about me or my car, what i think, they sold a car is all they care about. between me and my two sons we have purchased over the years 8 hyundai vehicles. because what they are doing, or should i say not doing for me there dad, no more hyundai cars, hyundai does not stand by there cars, warrany their products. i'm asking if they will buy the car back, guess what no word from them, ms tiger the rep was to call me never herd a word from her. more of their we don't care about the owners of hyundai sonata cars.

I was traveling east on us i90 in charlton ma in heavy holiday traffic keeping a safe interval as cars kept braking off and on and someone a dozen cars up slammed on thier brakes causing a chain reaction. i hit my brakes hard also but did not slow down fast as if i was still pressing on gas pedal i was slowing but not (right ?) or fast enough as i was standing on brake but still keep moving faster ahead then seemed right? this had happened a month or so before and i thought maybe my rug had slipped under brake petal and over my gas pedal as it seemed the harder i pressed on brake i still kept moving forward as if both were being pressed at the same time it seemed very odd or erie as i just kept moving forward. i did manage to stop just in time before i hit his bumper. like i said i thought at the time maybe the rug had slipped or something because it had slipped off the hook on the floor but it had not realy moved that much and i secured it with hook on floor and checked to make sure it was still secure the second time in july 3rd and it was . since then i have read about 2014 sonatas having problems with thier brakes that fits what happened exactly on over 800,000

On three occasions my car would not start. after the second time it failed, i brought it in. hyundai service department could not find anything wrong with it after hooking it up to the machine. no codes showed on the system check. they said they checked the battery. they said it could be the brake sensor, which was changed from a recall, so they said i have a new one, they would just adjust it and hopefully would fix the problem. three days later on a saturday morning, the car would not start again. i brought it back in. they kept my car from 06/20 - 06/30 and could not find or reproduce the same problem. updated 09/17/15*lj updated 11/07/2017*cn

Parking vehicle in front of home when power steering gave out. took vehicle to dealership and was informed that steering column had to be replaced due to a defect. nhtsa should seriously review the electric steering columns on the hyundai sonata . i have read many online complaints about steering loss and control at high speeds. potential for serious injuries and fatalities on this issue.

The first incident of our tires exploding happened on march 18 while driving along an empty street. the car jumped a curb and spun. the tires ending up having to be replaced, the suspension was damaged and had to be fixed and the rims were also damaged. due to my husbands fast reaction he fortunately did not hit another vehicle. yesterday, 5/21/15 will be the second time his tires explode except this time it is on the opposite side from the two previously repaired. what is going on with these tires?! these tires are horrible. i have a small child and god forbid my child is in the vehicle when this happened or if it happens again. something needs to be done. i will never again purchase a lease a hyundai or recommend this vehicle to friends and family!

Driving the car the transmission stays in high gear and should be down shifting into lower gear makes a grumbling noise then goes away when at higher speeds 45 plus. i have gone back twice to the dealer and they tell me and the the man that worked on the car thats the 6 speed transmission and thats how it works. i owned the same model 3 years before 2012 and never had this happen. i think theres is a problem with the transmission. nothing has happen to me or my wife. but something is wrong with the cars transmission. this has happen many times before but dealer states nothing wrong.

100 % brake failure. 45 mph,moderate traffic, 6:30pm thursday may 7th 2015, dry pavement and approaching traffic that which made an abrupt stop ahead. stepped on brake pedal, pedal fluttered as if anti locking brake activity was be activated. car continued to free wheel forward, i stepped harder on brake pedal and pedal began pushing back to me. the harder i pushed the brake pedal the more it pushed back (there was no braking action).the vehicle failed to stop , and had enough distance to stop (i had a minimum following distance of two car spaces) but brakes failed to do so which caused me to crash into the vehicle in front of me. i have owned many cars such as dodge charger 2006 sxt/chevy malibu 2009 to name a few and never had this problem when applying the brakes. i'm the first owner of this car and this is the first hyundai i have ever bought.

My new 2014 sonata se is a safety hazard while driving down the freeway at speeds of 60 to 75 mph. the problem is more relevant at high speeds than low speeds but the car still wanders. it will not stay in a straight line. it is a constant fade from left at one point to the right at another point. hyundai dealership told me it is made to go to the right in case you fall asleep at the wheel. if i drive down the road and left the steering wheel go it wanders left and then right. my safety concern is when in traffic if i don?t have both hands on the wheel i will wander in another lane of traffic. when there are wind gusts while driving it is very hard to keep this car in the lane. i have driven many ford?s and never had a steering issue like this. since, it fades i have to compensate that with grasping hard on the steering wheel to keep it in line and straight. i. this will be my 4th attempt to get this resolved. i have reported it to hyundai customer relations. no one has resolved my problem. this is an issue hyundai knows about but refuses to deal with. i really don?t think anyone cares and they figure consumers will just go away or trade the car off. i have done some research on this problem and wished i had done it before i bought the car. the 2011 to 2013 models have had problems with this same issue and i have been told it?s the electric steering pump and it is what it is. i have had the computer reprogrammed; tire replaced and reset or changed the mode. this has not solved the problem. why not change out the electric steering pump and at least that is something. maybe electrically it is defective. i have thought it is tire related but can?t check that out without changing both front tires to different manufacture tire. *tr

I was driving east bound highway 495 to work on 11/13/14 and my car shaken and i found check engine light is on. i was so worry to drive the car and try to pull over nearest exit. and i was able to find a hyundai dealership near by. i've called hyundai bluelink to check my car issue and they've told me possible transmission related issue. advantage hyundai took my car for service and i had to call taxi to go to work and i was late for my work with my co-worker. we both late for work and i had to go back to dealership to pick up my car. based on what they've told me that spider web causing the issue which i don't understand. i've lost time and extra money for taxi money. after about 2 weeks later, i was driving back to home from work and my car shaken again and i saw check engine light on my dash board again!!. i was so terrified to drive and pull over nearest exit and drive slow to my home. it was around 7pm and dealership was closed. i took my car back to dealership's service center where i leased this car on jan of 2014. same incident happen 2 times in a month and i do not feel safe to drive this car. also dealer's service center advise me that they don't have part for this car and i have to wait until mid next week. dealership manager told me they will be no loaner car or rental car they can provide and just told me to wait. i've request dealer to exchange to different car due to safety issue and they can't do that and telling me to contact to buy back my car from dealership, otherwise i have to drive the same car. main point is i don't feel safe to drive this car. i do not want put myself risky situation. what should i do? *tr

1) the miles per gallon reading is unpredictable its advertised to give around 27 combined but i have never reached that 27 mpg, though i drive in low rpm ) the vehicle does not slow down for long distance even after releasing the gas pedal resulting in abrupt braking in lieu of gradual braking in stop & go traffic 2) the drivers side seat malfunctioned at around 15,000 miles 3) the car has a leak from 1000 miles onwards but the service center refuses to help, i called hyundai they advise me to call the service center, i feel as if after a valuable investment there's no customer satisfaction or customer redressed process. 4) lack of corporate service department that can answer warranty related questions. *tr

When starting the car, the "mpg" meter decrease about 1/8 percent every single time i start the car. dave never received services for sales, services, owners plus and hyundai refused assistance because they said you will never receive services until your car runs 7,000 miles for "any" services or pay right then and there $100 - 115/hour to 'drive-in' their services! all hyundai were rude and bias and i will send a letter to the fta federal agencies in the united states. *tr

I noticed that my blinker were working but i could not hear them and my seat belt did the same. i went to the morgan hyundai dealership. they found that the vehicle was not making chime sounds caused by insufficient volume coming from chime in bcm.they ordered the module to correct and replaced it a few days later. when i left the dealership i could not tell any difference in the chime sound. so i thought it might be my hearing and scheduled an apointment with and ear doctor. i explained to him what was happening. he tested me and said that i did have some difficulty in hearing high pitch sounds but that it was not bad enough to have hearing aids. he went out to my car and listened to the car chime and said that he had good hearing for his age and he was also having diffficulty hearing it. so i left his office and went back to the dealership. i was met by a very young lady and she said that she could hear it but it was not very loud. she then got an elderly man that worked there to listed and he had the same problem as i did. then we got a middle age woman sales person to listen and she had difficulty also. then they got the keys for four 2014 sonatas and tried them all of them failed the test. so as a last resort we got the keys on a 2015 sonata and we could hear it fine. they said that they would contact hyundai to see if this is something that will be recalled or if they have had any other complaints. it concerns me because i am use to hearing the chime when i put my keys in my car and if fixed may cause me from having an accident with out my seat belt on. please let me know if yall are having this problem anywhere else. thanks edsel mckee

(hma) via cust. care line & preliminary investigation rpt. vehicle: 2014 hyundai sonata se 2.0t sedan details of incident: incident occurred while parking the vehicle in parking lot. parking spot: perpendicular parking (park between painted lines) curb, shrubbery and wall in front of spot (in that order). approached parking spot, toward front of parking spot applied brake. upon application of the brake the vehicle suddenly lurched forward --- felt like it was flying --- went forward and over the curb and stopped in the shrubbery before the wall (did not hit the wall). seat belt prevented injury (head movement only). fyi, no airbag deployment (given situation i would not expect deployment). after landing in shrubbery, reversed vehicle out and back into parking spot. damage to vehicle appears to be all front end (bumper, fenders, hood, under front end, possibly engine). there is significant damage to front of vehicle. aug 4, 2014: rpt€™d to cust. care. aug 11, 2014: hma received completed pir packet & vehicle towed to local dealer. aug 18, 2014: told (by service advisor) vehicle picked up from dealer on aug 14, 2014 for 3rd party engineering inspection. however, owner's insurer conducted claims evaluation on aug 15, 2014 at same dealer. aug 20, 2014: 3rd party inspector called owner trying to locate vehicle. hyundai case worker and local service advisor unable to locate vehicle. aug 25, 2014: 3rd party inspector committed to find car (estimated inspection and release date aug 27, 2014). aug 27, 2014: 3rd party inspector found car in local dealer's service lot (vehicle was lost€ for 2 weeks). 3rd party inspection completed sep 2, 2014 and vehicle released for body work repairs. 3rd party inspector was not authorized to provide any information on findings of inspection, expected turnaround of hma review is an additional 2 weeks.

This car is difficult to steer on the highway. the cars drifts to the left and right and is difficult to steer in a straight line. constant correction of the steering wheel is required. the control most difficult on milled pavement and is variable depending on road surface. my first thoughts were that the tires were an issue after reading others comments it appears there are other issues. it will be interesting to see how this effects winter driving. *tr

While driving on the freeway at about 60mph, 100 degrees outside, a/c on low inside the car (no a/c vents in the rear of vehicle), i hear a loud pop. i thought a tire blew. i looked in the rear view mirror to see the back window shattered yet still in place as it's safety glass. with each bump in the road the glass began to fall into the car. my car has 5340 miles on it. i had no chips in the glass. this could have been a terrible situation had i had a rear facing baby seat in the car with an infant. or rear passengers or been so startled by the situation it caused an accident. none of these things happened, fortunately. *tr

I was disgusted to see the currently playing hyundai sonata commercial in which an adult man is illegally and dangerously driving through a parking lot with a child in the back seat. as the car stops it is apparent that the behavior is a game which is then repeated. i am not sure if it is the purpose of the hyundai organization to promote child endangerment or they are just sick. . can you do anything to stop this commercial, specifically, and prevent similar commercials which might demonstrate harmful action against children in the future? My husband and i purchased a 2014 hyundai sonata on may 31st. on june 15th, i was sitting in a parking lot waiting on my husband, and i reached into the back seat to hand my one year old a toy. when i reached back, my seat belt snapped and broke from the connecting point on the floor board. my husband took it on to hyundai and they have stated they are unsure as to why it snapped. my husband went back to get the vehicle and the service tech stated that it still wasn't fixed. he stated that when it was initially fixed and someone sat in the seat and turned it snapped again. our vehicle is still in the shop waiting to be fixed. *tr

No accidents with vehicle at this time. we purchased on a monday, may 26th, and i had not driven the car on the interstate when testing, actually i did not drive the vehicle, my wife did since it is her car. when driving the sonata for the first time three days later, may 28th, i noticed on the interstate, 55-70 mph, the car drifts and has to be continuously corrected left and right. doing further research on the internet, this seems to have been an issue in the past model years and not corrected by hyundai. i am 58 years old, a car nut, and have worked on my vehicles as well as totally restored a 67 gto and i have never experience a new vehicle with this type of steering problem. i contacted the dealer's service manager and his response to my question was that this is normal for the car with electric steering and there is no adjustment. i have directed my wife to be cautious during rain until we have experienced how the car handles water buildup on the road surface. *tr

On may 7,2014 the sonata was leaking transmission fluid on my garage floor. this vehicle is only two weeks old and about 700 miles on it. when o'brien hyundai towed it to urbana,illinois. the service manager told me the transmission had leaked one quart of transmission fluid. he also stated one of the ports had not been sealed at the factory. when pressed he told me the transmission fluid could have caught on fire. he also stated when the car ran out of fluid it would just lock up. frightening thought of the car was traveling 70 mph. thanks for your time in this matter. *tr

The new sonata is a safety hazard when driving down the freeway. it will not stay in a straight line. it is constantly moving or fading right to left. hyundai dealership responds its built to go to the right incase you fall asleep. i have done some research to find the sonata has had a long history of this same problem since 2011. the dealership says its the electric power steering pump. well at high speeds its hard to handle and the reaction time is more difficult to compensate the right and left movement. i will be taking into a second hyundai dealership next monday so they can evaluate it. these sonata's really need to be looked at. if driving at high speeds they move into the other lane and that is a major concern that hyundai is not looking at. the only thing the first dealership did was check air in tires and torque the suspension as well as hook up a computer to the steering assembly and tes the steering modes. which sonata has normal, soft and sport. the fade to right and left happens in all modes. *js

As i was leaving my parking space and approaching the intersection and stop sign, i pressed the brakes and the vehicle failed to stop. i pressed brakes again and the car failed to stop again. i put the car in park and the car stopped. *tr

Car battery goes dead,unable to start car, could happen at any time. this has happened 3 times. the dealer has no idea why. even hyundai corp does not have any answers. the car has been back to the dealer for days at a time with no resolution. i feel this is a safety concern because the car can leave you stranded, it is so unreliable. this is a 2014 sonata. i see many problems on the internet for this problem with hyundai cars. it appears to be associated with cars with "push to start". *tr

Car is advertised to get 25mpg city and 35mpg highway with a combined rating of 27mpg. i am driving 50-55 miles per day on the highway and 10 miles in the city. i drive this vehicle the similar to my previous car. i am using low rpm acceleration and maintaining a consistent speed on the highway. my cars mpg is averaging 27.5mpg for at least 3500 miles. *tr

The office of defects investigation (odi) is expanding the investigation to include the equipment supplier and vehicle manufacturers (oems) using this unit.the investigation focuses on acus manufactured by trw, now zf-trw (zf) , the tier-one supplier to hyundai and kia and the other affected oems.the acu senses a vehicle crash to determine whether air bag deployment is required, and if so, deploys the appropriate air bags and other supplemental restraints.zf supplied subject acus to six oems: fca, honda, hyundai, kia, mitsubishi and toyota.internal to the acu is an electronic component (an application specific integrated circuit, or asic) that monitors signals from crash sensors.a failure of the asic may prevent deployment of the required air bags and devices, or may otherwise affect the proper operation of the acu.the acu is located in the passenger compartment, and electrical wiring connects the asic to sensors located at the front of the vehicle.odi’s current understanding is that a crash event may, in and of itself, produce harmful signals on the sensor wiring capable of damaging the asic, although the probability of this occurring appears to be low.while the acu incorporates electrical circuitry intended to protect the asic from harmful signals, the level and effectiveness of the protective circuitry varies by oem customer.during pe18-003, hyundai and kia filed recalls (18v-137 and 18v-363 respectively) to address a defect that could result in acu disablement and non-deployments.according to the filings, the disablement occurs in certain types of frontal crash events.both filings discussed a condition known as electrical overstress (eos) that affected the subject asic and was likely caused by electrical signals that entered the acu via sensor wiring.the recalled vehicles used acus that had the lowest levels of asic protection while non-recalled hyundai and kia products using subject acus had higher levels of protection.odi has not identified any eos failures in the non-recalled kia and hyundai populations.in september 2016, fca filed recall 16v-668 for certain model year (my) 2010 to 2014 chrysler, dodge and jeep products also manufactured with the subject acu.in that filing, fca also discussed an eos condition that resulted in a failure of the subject asic, which caused air bag non-deployment. fca noted that the defect condition had only been observed in vehicles equipped with sensor harnessing routed across the front of the vehicle.other fca vehicles that also used the subject acu, but not the cross-car harnessing, had not experienced eos failures, despite similar time in service. the recalled fca vehicles used a mid-level form of asic protection.other fca vehicles that did not use cross car wiring, or used higher levels of asic protection, have not been recalled.odi has not identified any eos failures in the non-recalled fca population.recently, odi has identified two substantial frontal crash events (one fatal) involving toyota products where eos is suspected as the likely cause of the non-deployments.the crashes involved a my 2018 and a my 2019 corolla equipped with the subject acu that incorporated higher levels of asic protection.additionally, both acus were found to be non-communicative (meaning the acu could not be read with an event data recorder) after the crash, a condition found in other cases where eos occurred with other oems.no other eos events have been identified for other toyota products (including corolla models that used the subject acu since my 2011), or for the honda and mitsubishi vehicles that use the subject acu.odi plans to evaluate the susceptibility of the subject acu designs to electrical signals, as well as other vehicle factors that can either lead to, or reduce the likelihood of, an eos event.additionally, odi will evaluate whether an unreasonable risk exists that requires further field action.
