2017-06-05	LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:HOOD:LATCH	Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed. Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owner’s may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai’s number for the recall is 163.
2017-03-31	ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE	Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Sonata and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. Machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine. Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine, replacing the engine short block, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 162.
2013-12-16	TIRES:SIDEWALL	Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2014 Santa Fe vehicles manufactured November 5, 2013, through November 15, 2013, and equipped with P235/65R17 103T Continental Crosscontact LX tires. The tires may have a damaged sidewall. Remedy: Hyundai notified dealers to suspend sales of affected Santa Fe Sport vehicles equipped with the P235/65R17 103T tires, and replace them with alternative tires. All affected vehicles were remedied prior to retail sale. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Care Center at 1-800-633-5151.

This is to report our vehicle fire that occurred on 7/17/18. The vehicle is (was) a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4 cylinder Turbo with approximately 60,000 miles, and it was completely destroyed by the fire. The vehicle was purchased new January 2014 from Annapolis, MD Hyundai that included the purchase of the extended 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. All vehicle maintenance was performed at Annapolis Hyundai according to schedule, and the last vehicle service and inspection was completed on 6/25/18.

On 7/17/18 we reported the vehicle fire to the Hyundai Corporate office located in Fountain Valley, CA. Within a few day\'s we provided Hyundai the extensive information they requested, and also photos that we took of the fire. It appears that Hyundai has our complaint; Case # 11449537; listed as \"reporting a mechanical problem\". We also notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding the vehicle fire incident, and the tracking number is 11113354.

Thus far Hyundai\'s reaction to the vehicle fire, and our interaction with them, has been very disappointing. Our primary concern is that Hyundai take our fire incident much more serious then what they have exhibited, and they try as best possible to minimize what happened to us occurring to someone else. If our vehicle fire had happened just a few minutes earlier on the New Jersey Turnpike it would have been very difficult for us to get away from the vehicle, and entire incident would have been a lot worse. Listed below is the incident information we previously provided Hyundai. We would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

On July 17, 2018 Linda and Richard Brockson were driving home from vacation from Boston, MA to Arnold, MD. The vehicle; a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4 cylinder Turbo 4; was running fine with absolutely no indication of any engine problems. There were no dashboard light indicators, smells, car sounds, handling problems, or anything at all to warn us of what was about to happen. At approximately 10:30am EST; and after about 3 hours of driving; we stopped at a service plaza rest area to use the restroom. We were at the rest area about 15 minutes. At the rest area there was no indication that the car had any kind of problem. We did not notice any leaks or anything at all to indicate that there was a problem. At about 10:45am EST we proceeded on our trip home. At that time we planned to eat lunch and refuel around 1:00pm EST. At approximately 12:40pm EST; and about 2 hours after leaving the rest area; we exited the southbound New Jersey Turnpike, Exit 7A, to proceed onto I-295 toward the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Immediately upon exiting at 7A the vehicle lost all power. The dashboard went completely blank. We were able to drift the vehicle to the side of the highway and luckily there was space for it. We estimate the vehicle drifted between 100 to 200 feet before it came to a stop. At that time we noticed there was smoke coming from under the front hood. Richard immediately exited the vehicle and opened the rear trunk and front hood. There was smoke and flames coming from the engine. Richard attempted to put the fire out with bottled water and ice from our ice chest. As soon as Linda saw the fire she gathered as many car items as possible and tossed them to a nearby grass area. Richard may have slightly slowed the fire enabling time for most of our luggage and other items from our trip to be tossed out of the vehicle. We probably had 8 to 10 bags of miscellaneous items such as food, shoes, reading materials, toilet articles, coats, and grandchildren gifts. As flames began to engulf the entire front of the vehicle, Richard was able to grab our two large suitcases from the trunk area. All of this happened within a very short period of time, maybe a minute or two. The primary vehicle compartments that we werent able to retrieve items were the center console and spare tire area. We then ran away from the vehicle towards a nearby underpass and Linda immediately called 911. Two males in a car with a New York license tag had stopped to help and they also called 911. We arent sure which 911 was first. We watched as the entire vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames. The Robbinsville, NJ fire station responded to the 911 call and they arrived we believe 5 to 10 minutes after the call. The vehicle, for the most part, appeared to be completely destroyed by the time the fire department arrived. After the fire was put out the Haines Towing driver gave us a ride to their business. At about 6pm EST we went to a hotel.
