2013-01-16	AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE \| SEATS	Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed. Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. 2018-10-04	HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM	Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2014 Toyota Prius and 2012-2014 Toyota Prius V vehicles. Excessive voltage in the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) within the inverter may cause the hybrid system to shut down, causing the vehicle to stall while being driven. Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the motor/generator control electronic control unit (ECU) and the hybrid control ECU as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 22, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota’s number for this recall is J0V. Note: The software updates in this recall are needed even if the vehicle had the software previously updated under recalls 14V-053 or 15V-449.
2016-06-30	AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW	Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 Toyota Prius, 2010 and 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, and 2011-2012 Lexus CT200h vehicles. A weld in the curtain shield air bag inflator may crack causing one or both portions of the inflator to eject into the passenger cabin. Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will install retention brackets to the curtain shield air bags, free of charge. The recall began on October 17, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota Customer Service Department at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota’s number for this recall is Toyota G0U, and Lexus GLJ.
2016-06-02	SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER	Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2005-2011 4Runner, Highlander, Sequoia, and Sienna, 2005-2010 Avalon and Tundra, 2006-2008 Camry Solara, 2006-2010 Highlander hybrid, 2006-2011 Rav4 and Tacoma, 2007-2010 FJ Cruiser, 2007-2011 Camry hybrid, 2009-2010 Venza, 2010-2012 Prius, 1988-1990 and 2005-2010 Camry, and 1989 and 2009-2010 Corolla vehicles equipped with aftermarket accessory seat heaters with a copper strand heating element. The electrical wiring in the seat heaters may be damaged when the seat cushion is compressed. Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the seat heaters, free of charge, and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory. The recall began on July 14, 2016. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET number for this recall is SET16B.
2014-02-12	ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE \| HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM: INVERTER	Toyota is recalling certain model year 2010 through 2014 Prius vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) inside the inverter module (a component of the hybrid system) contains transistors that may become damaged from high operating temperatures. If this occurs, various warning lamps will be illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle will have reduced power allowing it to only drive a short distance. Remedy: Toyota will notify owners and dealers will update the software for both the motor/generator control electronic control unit (ECU) and the hybrid control ECU, free of charge. If an owner experiences a failure of the inverter before the vehicle receives updated software, the dealer will repair or replace the inverter assembly with a new one at no charge. The recall began on March 21, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

2013-04-09	EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS	Southeast Toyota is recalling certain model year 2008 and 2010-2013 Toyota Tundra, 2010-2012 Rav4, 2012 Toyota Sequoia, 2010-2011 Toyota Corolla, 2010-2011 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2010-2013 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2010-2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2010-2013 Toyota Venza, 2010-2011 Toyota 4Runner, 2010-2013 Toyota Tacoma, 2011-2012 Toyota Sienna, 2012 Toyota Prius, 2013 Scion FR-S, 2011 Scion XD, 2011 Scion XB, and 2012 Scion TC vehicles. These vehicles were sold with labels that were outside the allowable one percent of accuracy of actual weight added. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.” Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners and provide a corrected label with instructions concerning its installation. Excess oil consumption
Had a 85,000 mile servicing with a green check mark on the engine oil.
About 2000 miles after this 85,000 mile servicing a check engine light came on. After a quick check found NO oil on the engine dipstick. Took 3 1/2 qts of oil to fill. Brought this to the service departments attention at the 90,000 mile servicing. They ran diagnostics and of course found no codes saved in history. In their (what I now know as famous) state of denial they added to their comments being a possible leak but of course unable to determine & excessive oil spillage under the hood.There were no leaks or excessive oil. I started checking for leaks immediately after discovering this problem.
Then I questioned about the service tech who gave me a green check mark on the engine oil at the 85,000 mile servicing. Of course that tech didn\'t work there anymore and they could only go by the paper records. This was also the time I was introduced to their (Toyota\'s) definition of excess oil consumption as being 1 qt in 1200 miles. Becoming aware that I needed to inspect my car before and after each servicing I found at that time the oil consumption was about 1 qt in 2000 miles under normal driving conditions which includes quite a bit of time on electric drive.
After the 105,000 mile servicing I went on a 2000 mile trip and into hilly areas where the engine was worked harder than normal. On this trip I went through 2 1/2 qts in the 2000 mile trip which over qualifies for their definition. I talked to the head of this service department after this. He agreed I shouldn\'t be having these kinds of oil consumption issues and we agreed to set up an oil consumption test.
Well surprise surprise the test didn\'t meet the excess oil consumption standard SO I didn\'t have a problem.
I\'m sure if we set up the test again and I pounded out 1200 hard and hilly highway miles I could meet that definition of excess oil consumption. ( neither convenient or practical)
I did file a complaint with corporate Toyota customer service but after talking to that bozo (who was in that same famous state of denial) I was told that of course if I did meet the definition of excess oil consumption in the future – Because this engine was not under warranty any longer any repairs would be at my expense. At the 85,000 mile interval where this showed up the car still was under extended warranty coverage.
After going through this and running into this Denial status on many different fronts led me to post this complaint here.
I also changed my opinion on that service tech that did my 85,000 mile check. I thought that he might have had some responsibility on this issue but now I have to wonder if he realized there was a problem here and didn\'t want to give me a green check on the engine oil but wasn\'t allowed to and maybe that\'s why he wasn\'t working there anymore.

When driving this car (VIN # JTDKN3DP2C3002175), a major safety defect in the windshield is noticed when viewing lights through the windshield. Light passing through the windshield is replicated/ghosted several times above and below the source of the light, based on the distance of the light source. This defect can cause objects on the road, such as pedestrians, to be hidden from view until, in specific cases, it’s too late. In instances where the light is bright (e.g. sunlight, oncoming headlights, parking lot lights, etc) the light appears to be amplified, creating a blinding effect for the driver. I can attribute at least two recent near misses with pedestrians due to this defect. This defect appears to be present in many (NOT ALL) of the 2012 Prius PHVs based on input from other drivers with the exact same model/body style.

The issue with the windshield is easily noticed at night, however during the day it can be difficult to see. The issue was not of a high priority as I typically drove during daylight hours to and from work, rarely, if ever, at night. Once daylight savings time (DST) ended, this issue became more of a priority for me.

Since noticing this issue, I have tried repeatedly to remedy the issue with the selling/servicing dealership with no success. At this point Toyota believes this is simply a “characteristic” of the vehicle.

I have had the car in four times since delivery in March to have it looked at and at this point, I have filed for arbitration to try and return the car. Driving at night does result in headaches and I simply do not believe the car is safe to drive at this point. I have had a couple near misses because either I am blinded by oncoming headlights appearing too bright (and they were NOT high-beams or floods) or because of low, overhanging lights from buildings causing pedestrians to be hidden from view behind a copy/image of the light.

There are two videos on YouTube from other Prius owners somewhat documenting the issue and I have attached a photo another person took of the problem. I haven’t been able to take a picture of the issue yet as the cameras (cell phone) I have been using do not really capture the image properly. I am working to borrow a HD SLR camera to take pictures of the issue when it appears with either 2x or 3x the light effect. If I had the proper equipment, I bet I could also prove that the windshield is amplifying the light passing through the windshield as well. Headlights seen through plain glass or no glass appear less dim than when viewed through the windshield.
