2008 TOYOTA Camry

I have a very sticky/shinny dash in my Camry and dealer is refusing to honor the warranty extension. They stated that it was past the expiration point. I called Toyota and they stated the same (claim number 1903152237). I am having a hard time seeing in front of me while driving and have had a few new miss accidents due to the glare.

Dashboard is becoming sticky and shiny. Nothing wipes it off, and its worse in warmer weather. Called Toyota and they told me the warranty was up and it was the responsibility of the first owner of the vehicle to get it fixed. As the second owner (bought it used), I was never given any notice of complete coverage or repairs. No emails or letters.

Severe oil consumption

Engine excessively burns oil. I have to add a quart every tank of gas (400 miles).

The dashboard on my 2008 Toyota Camry is melting, and in the process becoming sticky and shiny. The stickiness is a nuisance, but the shininess is a hazard as it promotes heavy glare on the windshield. it makes me on a sunny day they can lose sight of the road, I almost hit another car due to the visibility.

I didn\\\\\\\'t receive any letter from toyota about enhancement warranty and even when I check with Toyota Dealer they said it has no recalls. Now Toyota said my car out of warranty 7 mpnths ago, and they can\\\\\\\'t do anything. This should be a recall.

The problem started in my vehicle last summer, but I didn\'t know about ther extended warranty. The date I entered was the date I contacted Toyota as I found information about this problem on the internet. I bought my vehicle used and went to the local Toyota dealer asking if there were any problems I should know about, as I needed an extra key made and I inquired why I was there. I was told no problems, no recalls. I noticed the dashboard getting sticky the summer of 2017, but thought it was caused by the cleaner I used on the dashboard. This summer was even hotter and the finish on the dashboard began peeling, cracking, becoming shiney, and very very sticky to touch. So I did a google search. I typed in \"how to clean a sticky dashboard\" and guess what popped up, Toyota Camry\'s problems with a defective dashboard. They didn\'t recall it even though it covered several years, instead they extended the warranty. I bought my car used. I check with a local dealer, and I was told no issues. I called Toyota today, and, I\'m SOL as the warranty has expired as of 11/2017. If I had known I could have gotten it replaced. I would also like to mention the defective visors, which I replaced at my cost as the extended warranty had expired. The fall down w/o warning and could have caused a crash. Lets not forget the oil burning issue. This vehicle is from 2005-2011 is riddled with problems and Toyota is leaving those of us who purchase used vehicles out in the cold. I\'ll never buy a Toyota again if this is the customer service they provide to customers.

I have a melted dashboard and apparently there was a recal that I didnt get notified for. Now that its expired, my dashboard is melted and when its sunny outside it causes a glare from my meaty dashboard to my windshield and I can barely see past my windshield. I have almost crashed with this and I feel as though if I ever crash due to this then Toyota should be held responsible since they refuse to fix this due to an expiration date. All I want is for this to be repaired.

Sticky dashboard and nothing will clean it off. Apparantly there was a recall for this however I never received notification and now the period to have the dash replaced at Toyota\'s expense has expired. Now I can\'t get the dash fixed without paying $1500. I am the original owner of the vehicle and I find it ridiculous that I paid for a vehicle that has a defect and I can\'t get it fixed because the time period expired!?! And the only way to fix this is at my expense.

I purchased the car in spring of 2015 and after about a year of having the car when I would bring in the car for oil changes the oil level was low and about a year ago the oil wasn\'t even registering on the oil stick and it has been burning oil at about 2 quarts every 1000 to 1500 miles. I took it to a mechanic today who checked out to make sure there was no oil leaks and he did not see any signs of oil outside the engine and only suggestion was to put new motor in or tear the current motor apart and replace anything worn which still may not solve the problem. So for now I\'m going to get oil topped off every 1000 miles which is a major pain having to watch and remember when the last time I was in for a top off so I don\'t run my engine dry.

Sticky Film on Dash Board.

This is actually my father\'s Philip E. Myhre\'s car. My father asked me to act on his behalf. Philip is 91 years old and depends on this car for his personal transportation each day. Philip is the second owner of this car and he bought it about 2.5 – 3 years ago from the original owner. As I recall the mileage when he bought it was about 130,000 miles it now has 158,300 miles on it. In late January 2018 I was driving the car when the oil warning light on the dash lit up, I immediately pulled over and checked the oil level on the dip stick as I thought the warning light was in error because Philip just had the oil & filter changed (which he does every 3000 miles) at the local Jiffy Lube about 1500 miles prior to what the mileage was reading. I was very angry when I seen that the oil level didn\'t even register on the dipstick and I had to add 1 1/4 quarts of oil (my initial thought was that Jiffy Lube was shorting him on oil) which I now do not believe. When he had driven the remainder of the 3000 miles I checked the oil again as I was going to change the oil & filter myself and found that it was approximately 1 quart low. I have since learned that Toyota Has had oil excessive consumption issues with this engine (2.4 L ,2AZ-FE on 2007-2009 Toyota Camry\'s) and they put out a \"Warranty Enhancement Notification\" letter # ZE7 to address this excessive oil consumption problem. My father did not receive this notification nor has he heard anything from Toyota. I did call corporate Toyota on 4/13/2018 and talked to one of their customer service representatives and was told because their cut-off point was at 150,000 miles or 10 years from initial start of the vehicle. I think this is wrong on Toyota\'s part as they knew there is a problem with this engine yet they did not put out a recall. I believe this is taking advantage of the consumer and they should stand behind their product. I am deeply disturbed knowing that if I don\'t or can\'t continuously check the oil level and keep it in the safe operating range this engine could be destroyed. Brian Myhre.

Heavy oil consumption, less than a thousand miles after getting oil changed in 3000 miles I need to add 2 quarts of oil. This 2 quarts only lasts 600 miles before adding 2 quarts

Burning 1 qt of oil every 600 miles. Toyota acknowledges there is a design defect but won\'t fix since it is past the warranty extension. How am I supposed to know there was a warranty extension? They said the dealer would tell me when I go into service. But, I say that I don\'t go to my dealer for service. They say that is why I should go to a dealer for service. Really shady way to say you have provided a warranty extension for a known design defect but then do not provide adequate notification to the consumer. This oil consumption defect can cause engine failure in a moving vehicle so it is a potential safety issue.

I have a Toyota Camry 2008. I bought it in Summer 2012 with bank loans. Since I bought this car, I have had abnormal engine oil consumption. Actually, I believe all cars may have engine oil consumption to some extent. However, my car has had always too excessive engine oil consumption such that I have had to add quarts of oil after 2,000-4,000 driving mileage which has been always far behind oil-filter replacement services at 5,000 miles.

I have had experience with Toyota Corolla, and comparing Corolla and Camry, I realized that the Camry engine oil consumption is much significantly more than Corolla despite that the Corolla is even one year older.

I tested various oil types, from the finest to the conventional oils, and various filters, from the finest to the genuine Toyota filters. All of these demonstrated much significant engine oil consumption without any observable difference for engine oil consumption between them.

Ultimately, in 2016, I took my Camry to a Toyota Center and they suggested to run an engine oil consumption test (which Toyota had offered in a recall due to a manufacturing problem in the engine — either in pistons or rings, or both). I accepted to run the test, and after the test, the technician confirmed that the test did not show significant engine oil consumption, and they did not fix my car.

I decided to run the test again in 2017; however, I could not finish the test due to going over the expected mileage for bringing the car back to complete the test. Right now, the car is out of the recall warranty period which is 10 years after the car purchase.

This engine oil consumption problem is a Toyota manufacturing fault and must be fixed as soon as possible by Toyota at any time without any test requirements. Toyota announced 2008 Camrys have this problem, and the problem is there in all 2008 Camry cars not only in diagnosed cars. Technicians may make mistakes in running the test; however, the manufactured pieces (piston and/or ring in my case) are all faulty in all 2008 Camrys. Requesting to run a test is not reasonable at all for a car type that is legitimately proven by the manufacturer or numerous customers to possess a faulty piece or pieces.

I called the Toyota Customer Services North America [at number (800) 331-4331] during the past several days (February 24 and 26, 2018) and talked to several ranking customer services agents up to a supervisor (named James Fewel Operation Supervisor located at P.O. Box 259001, Plano, TX 75025). All of them failed to resolve my issue as I requested them to fix my car manufacturing problem at Toyota expense. Their justification for not giving me any service was that they are fair to customers because they treat all customers the same with the same service that Toyota (the faulty manufacturer) has specified. They described the Toyota service as taking car to a Toyota Center and running engine oil consumption test (for a proven manufacturing problem originated from Toyota engineers or designers), which is not possible for my car anymore because I am out of the deadline to do so.

All in all, I strongly urge Toyota to fix this issue timelessly before people fall into bigger and far more serious troubles of losing the car engines (and consequent safety issues) and filing numerous lawsuits against Toyota.

I have had 3 oil consumption tests done with the dealer indicating that the car past the 1100-1200 miles test. However, whenever I change the oil, only about 2 quarts are emptied out, and the car now shows the oil light with 2,000 plus miles remaining since the last oil change. There is no way this car is not burning oil given the small amount of oil emptied during each oil change. The dealer is either wrong or the consumption issue only shows up after the 1200 miles.

I had received the extended warranty coverage letter for the excessive oil consumption more than a year ago. No issues until possibly October 2017 when oil maintenance light kept coming on event after oil change after just 1000 miles (usually every 5000 miles before). Then got car checked out and mechanic found almost no oil in car. Car was driving poorly with sometimes stalling. I got an oil change and car worked fine for 2 weeks and had same problem.again, By this time, I remembered the warranty and went to Toyota Dealership where the told me the warranty was not valid due to car being over 10 years old. Anyway they filled car with oil and told me to return in 1100-1300 miles for the results of the test which I will later know. I don\'t have much hope of getting this fixed under warranty.

I have been complaining to Toyota about oil consumption for years all in vain. At one time I was told it depend on my driving and I should check the dip stick after every 1000 miles. Last month I took the vehicle for oil change and multi-inspection. They did the oil change and off i left the dealer, after approx. 3 weeks my oil was gone, went to Walmart and bought oil, after a few days while my wife was driving the car to work, the vehicle started shaking and Engine light came on ! She stopped the vehicle and called me, after a few minutes the check engine light disappeared and she proceeded. I later went to where the vehicle was parked checked the oil and it was low. So, I added more oil. I called Toyota explained to customer service rep. and I was informed a manager will call me. I never received a call from the manager, The next day i called and requested for the manager he informed me to bring the car in the same day. I took the car and i received poor customer service I even had to plead with them to have a shuttle drop me at my house. While at the dealer i was informed vehicles that were built between 2006-2008 had a defective engine that would allow the vehicles to overheat at the same time to burn more oil ! I was shocked if this was disclosed while i was shopping for a vehicle i would have not bought the Camry. The agent/serviceman informed me i have to call the manager the next day. I did and he referred me back to the serviceman. I expressed my frustration, he informed me that they will do the oil change at my own expense and i have 3 weeks to drive 1100 miles then take the vehicle back to Toyota for them to repair. I told the agent it does not make sense since i will be driving a defective vehicle, he stated if i want the repair done then i must comply. He repeated several times am not suppose to open the hood to check the oil since it has been sealed for the oil consumption test. In addition i was informed the Radiator needs to be replaced which would cost $1100. The bottom line is that if the company knew of the malfunction why are they giving customers a run around instead of repairing the vehicle !

My car has been very well maintained, everything on-time. Back August, Jiffy Lube told us that my car is consuming about 2 QT every 3K miles. I read about it and it is a known issue with Toyotas, I need them to resolve my car issue because it is very expensive for me to carry with a manufacturer faults.

Extreme oil consumption. Not leaking just burning. Purchased August, 23, 2017 from dealer as is. Asked if there was anything about the car that I needed to know. They said NO! In the 3.5 months I\'ve put 2100 miles on the car. My oil light came on momentarily and went out. I checked the oil, I was 3 quarts low. That\'s 700 miles a month. The car has 101,000 miles on it. I should have been warned about the issue with the piston rings and oil consumption. The company I purchased from was Tuscaloosa Toyota in Tuscaloosa Alabama.

My dashboard has been melting and is now a shiny, gooey substance that I can\'t clean. It\'s worse because when the sun hits the shiny dash I\'m blinded. Driving home in the afternoon after work is so dangerous for me because when it reflects onto the windshield I can barely see anything. I also believe it may be the cause of this oily film that has been forming on my windshield. I keep cleaning but it won\'t stay clean. It leaves this iridescent film that just keeps forming again.

I received a recall notice for oil consumption I believe in the summer of 2015. I didn\'t have any issues with oil consumption at the time. However around October 2015, I began to notice the car was burning through oil, I requested a oil consumption test—but it came back that there was no issue. At the time of the oil consumption test my car was at 190,000 miles.

Now, the car is starting to burn more oil even after regular oil changes from Moss Bros Toyota in Moreno Valley. I just got my oil changed on August 4th 2017. Well two weeks (8/18/2017) after my change I noticed the oil sensor would flash every time I came to a stop. I check the oil in my car and there was barely any on the dipstick. As a result, I added more oil myself to avoid burning up the engine. I called the service advisor at Moss Bros who helped me two weeks prior. I explained the situation and told him I had an oil consumption test 2 years ago and was advised everything was normal. Unfortunately, he said there was nothing Toyota could do to help because of the high mileage on my Camry. He said it would cost $5,000 to replace the piston rings or $4000 to replace the engine.

As a result, I filed a claim with Toyota consumer affairs (Case#1708181590)–The girl Melissa on the phone didn\'t want to help and told me Toyota wouldn\'t be able to pay for the warranty work because of high miles. Toyota knew the piston rings were faulty from the beginning. They didn\'t want to spend the money or hours/years trying to repair/replace engines in these cars. So they make the consumer do this stupid worthless consumption test to avoid recall repairs. They are obviously trying to avoid taking care of a problem that many of us are facing.

I purchased this vehicle in October of 2007, brand new off the lot. Took it in for all of the regular maintenance appointments and know that I did everything right. My car should not be having all these issues especially for a brand that prides itself in reliability and durability.

I\'m going to have to look into another car to purchase and it definitely will not be a Toyota.

my car burn excessive oil. In 2014 I received a letter from Toyota and they refuse to correct the problem. the problem is getting worst I have to consciously check the oil and buy oil between changes.

Oil consumption, my piston shot out my engine leaving a hole open exposing the oil almost injuring a person when it shot out, now Toyota won\\\'t even try to fix it or compensate me for it all I wanted was it to get fixed, then they said mileage was past 150,000 and it had 175,000 but had the car since 2011 with 47,000 miles on it, I never received anything no recall or courtesy call as they said from customer service which means they knew about it but didn\\\'t bother calling me

My 2008 TOYOTA Camry is currently experiencing excessive oil consumption . Service technicians have not been able to identify any cause of this issue. I was informed about a problem that was detected in a 2011 technical bulletin about pistons needing to replaced.
I would like relief in this matter.

My 2008 Toyota Camry is using an excessive amount of oil (a quart every two weeks), accompanied by the clattering sound when the oil is getting low. I found a technical service bulletin that Toyota had installed defective rings that could cause this problem. However, Toyota won\'t repair my car due to mileage. My mileage is 184,000 and their repair window ended at 150,000 miles.

The oil consumption between oil changes is horrible. I have always taken my car to the dealer for all the work ever been done to my car and I am a 70 year old that needs the car I have to be reliable. I cant even check my own oil so when the oil is low and the dash light is on for it needing oil I have to pay or ask someone to add it for me. This is not why I purchased a Toyota. Toyota is or was the most reliable cars on the market at one point but now that I cant afford to purchase another vehicle I cant rely on my own Toyota Camry now.

The last oil change I had with my Camry 2008 was in February 2017. After driving about 2000 in 1.5 months after that oil change, I began to notice my car performance had degraded so much that I decided to check the oil level. When I checked my oil level I was shock to find there was no oil on my dip stick! I went to a local auto shop to pick up 2 quarts and added to my engine. The next day I dropped it off at a Toyota dealer to perform the oil consumption after I found out about this defect in the engine online. It failed the test. At this point my mileage was 191,400 and my cars was 7 months short of turning 10 years old. The excessive oil consumption problem had occurred well after the extended warranty of 150,000! I am out of luck and Toyota refused to service my car due to the expired warranty!! I feel cheated out of the warranty! THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALL.

I get my oil changed religiously…at TOYOTA, no less. I am still 1000 miles outside of my next oil change but my oil pressure light came on and there is NO OIL on the dipstick. Burning excessive amounts of oil…

Oil consumption is a quart every 1000 miles or less.

At some point around 115,000 miles or so I was shocked to find little or no oil on the dip stick so I started watching it closely. There was never oil residue left on the ground, so I figured it was a minor issue.

Shortly thereafter, Toyota sends information in the mail regarding an engine oil consumption issue. I was very excited because that\'s exactly what was happening to my car. I took it in to have the repair and was told they needed to run a test prior to the repair. I hesitated but allowed the test to be run. Low and behold, the service advisor tells me that my car has 3 MAJOR LEAKS and is not driveable. He also says that I must get this issue repaired prior to Toyota fixing the engine oil consumption issue. Aren\'t those related??? Well anyway, they hit me with a prerequisite bill of $1700 before I could get the repair. My repairs include and as stated on my bill- \"perform timing cover re-seal(found engine oil leak)\", \"Replace oil pan gasket-(found engine oil leak)\", along with an additional $3000 worth of repairs.
Needless to say a year later, my urgent car repair hasn\'t been repaired. I have been refilling the oil every 3 weeks or so to maintain until…….

My car is a 2008 with only 134,000 miles on it. It is unfortunate that it is time to purchase a new vehicle. Toyota has been my family\'s trusted brand for many generations. I guess it\'s time for the tradition to be broken.

Dealership, over a period of 2 or more years, has conducted 3 separate excessive oil consumption tests on my 2008 Camry. After only 1200-1800 miles, I have been low on oil. Each time, I have been told that my car passes and does not meet Toyota\'s requirements to excessive consumption. We recently had warning that the oil was low only 1000 miles since oil change and in checking the oil level, we were surprised to see that absolutely NO oil was registering. Toyota knows they have a problem here, but is in reality refusing to do anything about it.

My car is consuming excess oil. I went to the Toyota dealer and they confirmed that though a test. However they said that they don\'t have the parts and that they don\'t know when they are going to receive them!

The car made a ding sound when the breaks were applied while it was being driven. Upon checking, I noticed that the engine oil was extremely low – the dip stick showed no oil on it. I was alarmed and immediately added 3 quarts of oil – for oil to show up on the dip stick. At first, I figured that, maybe at the previous oil change, sufficient oil was not added. Soon thereafter, I got an oil change; this time I made sure, that there was adequate oil.
About 3 months later I began to hear the ding sound again. I checked the oil and found that it was low and again it did not even register on the dip stick. I added 3 quarts of oil and proceeded to get an oil change; this time with Tansky Toyota dealership. Three months later, the problem recurred. This time I was concerned and checked all the mail I had received from Toyota and noticed a warranty enhancement letter that stated – 2008 Camrys had an oil consumption problem. As the car was close to the 150,000 mile limit, I immediately went to Tansky Toyota dealership and reported the problem and they began an oil consumption test. After the test, they told me that there was no problem and that it was a normal occurrence.
Clearly, I was not convinced with the report and challenged the adviser. He remained adamant that there was no problem and that the test result was normal. I emphasized that I own other Toyota cars presently and in the past and never had this problem. He responded that per Toyota guideline, there is no problem; he told me to check and add oil as needed regularly.
I contacted the General Manager of Tansky, Ms. Joanna Williams. She had the Service Manager, Mr. Mark Matthews, call back a week later. Mr. Matthews never acknowledged that the car had an oil consumption problem; rather that this is a normal occurrence and advised that the oil be replenished on a regular basis. I responded that, this was something that I have experienced on other Toyotas cars I own(ed); but my words fell on deaf ears. I felt like there was no desire to address a customers genuine concern but rather Mr. Matthews kept justifying the test result. He appeared to be insensitive and unwilling to listen to my concerns but kept interrupting me, and at times was even rude on the phone. I am concerned that this issue will damage the engine; in addition the problem is a safety issue, should the oil be depleted while on long distance trips.
This is not the kind of service that I expected from a Toyota dealership. I am disappointed with the way Tansky Toyota treats their customers.

The dashboard is extremely sticky and very reflective on the windshield from the sun shining on it making it very difficult to see while driving. Dashboard melting.

The dash melts causing a sticky residue. But that residue is highly reflective and this causes an extreme safety risk due to the distraction of the image on your window and the impairment to visibility.

I have 2008 Camry and have had a melting dashboard for few years. This is absolutely a safety issue because the melted surface reflects sunlight onto the windshield making it difficult to see through the glare. In addition the melted dashboard could fuse with the airbag cover and cause it to malfunction. I question what kind of chemicals may be released in the air as well.

A rock put a hole in the air conditioner condenser in my Camry Solara. This shouldn’t happen but upon further research appears to be common place heard by other auto owners as well. Perhaps a design problem? No warranty will cover this either since the dealer claims product is "damaged."

1) I have been noticing the sudden unintensional accelation in this vehicle during driving. Also, with little snow or smooth wet surface on the road, I seem slipping forward when brake is pressed, is the problem of anti-lock brake? I do not know. I do not feel save with forward moving car when brake is on. 2) I have been having problem with loosing tire presures since I had this car. I took to toyota dealer many times, they sais the probelm solved, but it keep coming back. I had to put air again. Dealer said "air is leaked from Valve and it was fixed. 3) Due to this low air in tire, car does not run smooth, it seem this problem causes to have de-aliment to car. When brake is on, steering wheel viberates

2008 toyota camry. consumer expresses discontent and comments on recall notice. *tgw the consumer stated the abs was flawed. there was short circuit due to moisture.

2008 toyota camry instrument panel to bright. consumer states that the radio on the right of the instrument panel is too bright and it draws your eyes off the road. they also say that the dimmer switch does not dim it enough for it not to be a distraction. *kb

We got a recall on dash , took it in at the time jay wolf toyota ,was told dash not bad enough to fix. took in november or december off 2017 showing them the dash! they said they will fix ! only to be told we where a month or two late..i called and complained to there main office telling them of my complaint they blamed the dealer ship for not showing we took in a couple years earlier,.the car is a 2008 recall is up to 2018 , there saying we bought it in the fall of 2007, so we are past time frame! my complaint they should have fixed it a couple years earlier when they told us the dash wasn't bad enough at that time, we bought and used jay wolf toyota at that time, we quit going to them because of there mechanics , and they went through several managers since we bought the car. we only have 61000 miles on car,please get back with me on issue

The car was parked outside on the drive way and at 4am on 12/4/19 when i was about to go to work i realized the dashboard had exploded. no signs of a break in because the car was locked. i am not sure what happened but i have never had any issues since i got this car and out of a sudden the dashboard just explodes. what if this happened when i was driving? i am concern about all other owners of same year and model who are at risk of such explosion.

My dashboard is becoming extremely sticky. it’s becoming unsafe to drive when it’s sunny out. there needs to be a recall. has a lawsuit been filed yet for this manufacturer mistake?

I contacted toyota over a year ago concerning a recall on my dash boad...i was informed that they were on back orde due to the recall...i have made several attempts to resolve this matter but every time i call to speak with someone they give me an attitude stating that they have had people waiting on a dash board longer than me and that i just have to wait.

My car has been excessively burn oil. in 2014 i received a letter from toyota. this letter advise me to have a oil consumption test. i have had 2 the dealer is telling me that there is nothing wrong, that oil burring is normal. i have to put oil in my car at least 3 times in one month. my oil light and engine light comes on to notify me that me oil is dangerously low at least two time between oil changes. the problem is getting worst and toyota refuses to correct the problem despite the letter and them knowing this is an issue with toyota camarys . i do not what else to do

Takata recall my visors in my car keep coming down and hindering my ability to drive with difficulties. i have fixed them multiple times. toyota needs to pop in and solve this issue. when driving on the highways in houston and the visors just falls. because of the sudden fall of the visor i jumped the curb and popped a tire. i didn't know what was happening. this is a safety hazard and it needs to be addressed. i shouldn't have to keep spending my time and money on something i already spent my money on. dont use crappy parts and you won't get crappy results.

Engine oil burning off way to fast. i have to add 1 qt every 1,200 - 1,500 miles. i took my cat in to the dealership for a oil consumption test and passed. but i did notice that they use 5-20 oil. which i believe is why it passed. because i use 0-20 oil, just like my owners manual says. so i'm not sure.

We are very faithful about getting out car's oil changed regularly. good thing! when we received a warranty enhancement notification that our car was covered for excessive engine oil consumption, we started watching our oil consumption closely. we were definitely going through a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. we took the car in to a local dealership for the oil consumption test in march 2016 and were told our car didn't consume enough oil to qualify for the repair. we kept an eye on the oil consumption and took it back for another test in october 2016--convinced it would qualify. the dealership claimed that the car again did not qualify. we were frustrated but had little recourse on 10/24/16 with the warranty expiring on 10/31/16. our car is now going through a quart of oil every 400-500 miles. no kidding. we reset the trip odometer each time we add oil and are faithful about checking it once it gets in that 400-500 mile range. at our mechanic's suggestion (he only works on toyota's but isn't at a dealership), we called toyota headquarters earlier this year. (our mechanic has his own reasons for not being impressed with the dealership we had taken our car to for the oil consumption testing.) my husband was put on hold for over an hour and then was disconnected. we haven't tried phoning toyota again. we have been faithful toyota fans and owners for decades but, as a result of toyota's poor handling of this problem, we will likely not buy another toyota. is this a safety concern? absolutely! it's also an business ethics concern. will our oil consumption continue to increase as rapidly as it has in these last 7-8 months. i hope not. we're already adding a quart of oil nearly every week. unconscionable!

Vehicle was stationary, i lowered my visor to look in my mirror, once i was done i tried to return my visor to its up right position and it would not stay. nothing looks broken but clearly something is wrong if it wont stay up and now it is in my line of vision for driving. very dangerous, it blocks my line of sight, i cannot even push it up against the window(you know like you do when it is sunny out) for it doesn't stay and falls back down blocking my ability to see out the windshield.

Takata recall 2008 camry is not a part of the recall but should be. i had an accident and the airbag almost separated my wrist from my arm and severely burned me. the cut was so deep they had to remove skin from me leg to close it. i have a huge scar and burn on my arm

We were in the middle of an oil consumption test and there is now a hole in the side of the motor and toyota told us that it isn't covered and it's not their fault but they will put in a used one for about $3000. how is it my fault when they seal everything up so that i can not check the oil levels?

In july 2016 i began to notice my car was struggling to maintain it's power. when i drove the car and stepped on the gas in wasn't getting much power. when in traffic or stopped at a traffic light it would stall when trying to drive off and then the check engine light would come on. i brought my car to toyota service center and they worked on my car for several days. they were able to get the check engine light of and remedy the problem but could not determine the cause. in december 2016 i started to experience the same problem. i was losing power and the car would stall when at a complete stop, it was right after the check engine light came on. i brought my car back to toyota for servicing and they had a difficult time determining the cause but came to a conclusion that it was a sensor code. i followed their advice for servicing and paid for the the sensor code to be replaced. now we're here in march 2017 and i'm having the same problem. the same pattern where the car struggles to gain power and when i drive to to stop in traffic the car begins to stall. it is right after the check engine light comes on. i returned to toyota for the problem but hey could not diagnose the problem. my car is being returned without a cause.

My car is consuming lot of oil, for every 5000 miles oil change i noticed that there is not a single drop of oil left in the engine, i had a oil consumption test at longo toyota dealer in january, they asked me to come when the i drove the miles between 1100-1300, i took my car at 1128 miles and after the test they said everything is normal and no further test is needed, i said what are you saying i see not a single drop of oil left in the engine, they are saying in order to fail the test 1 qt of oil should be consumed for every 1200 miles but my car consume 3/4 qt of oil hence test is passed.... what the heck is going on why is it normal to consume 3/4 qt of oil, they failed to realize that there is no oil when oil change is occurred, and now the other problem is i can retake the test only after 6 months or 5k miles on the vehicle but my 10 year warranty is expiring in sept, not sure why toyota put the 10 year warranty they should cover the warranty atleast 15 years... i am sick of toyota never going to purchase any toyota vehicles, they dont stand behind their vehicles ...

During an accident in november of 2015 i received substantial injuries as a result of the airbag not inflating or the seatbelt engaging. i spoke with the body shop as to why neither system worked as designed, they could not answer this question. they believed that the sensors were compressed to engage the air bags but it did not engage. they also noted that when i hit the brakes the seatbelts should have locked which would have kept me stationary instead of allow me to hit the driver door jam above the steering wheel. both vehicles were in motion. the vehicle that hit me made a left turn into my front left quarter panel damaging the entire panel and part of the front driver door.

I was approaching an intersection on a city street and started to slow down when the brake pedal dropped, the "check vsc system" message came on the dash, several dash lights turned on, and the power brakes failed so i had to step on the brakes very hard in order to stop. i was able to slowly drive home. the "check vsc system" ,message is still on the dash.

While driving uphill all of a sudden i received multiple warnings ( noise, brake light, exclamation point, and a message about abs). i went to make a right turn on a street to see what was wrong with my car and had no brakes. the brake pedal did not move at all. realizing i could not stop, i drove on the grass and coasted until the car came to a stop. to say this was terrifying is an understatement.i could have been killed or i could have killed someone else, i had the car towed to toyota and was told it was the brake actuator and it would be $2054.00 for the part. i never received any recall about this problem

Car lurches forward after touching an ice patch and scarily wants to speed ahead. even in my driveway, it suddenly begins to speed forward or backward when it merely touches a sheet of ice. this is extremely dangerous in areas where there are pedestrians because the car suddenly seems out of control. my solution is to go as slowly as possible until i am able to bring the car to a dealer on a nonicy day.

I have a 2008 toyota camry with a 2az-fe engine that began using excessive amounts of oil after about 120k miles. i took it to my local dealership who told me it was normal to need to add oil every 1000 miles or so. however it has been brought to my attention that toyota acknowledged this issue on august 11, 2011 with tsb #0094-11.

I have had my toyota camry since 2012 however when i called in to make a complaint about the excessive oil consumption, i was told i was not even registered with toyota. i find that disturbing because i have received notices in the past. i did not receive any notices about the oil consumption test. i even have notices from toyota to prove that i have received notices in the past. when i called in jackie the specialist said i was not in the system and had to be registered. now i'm stuck with this problem, and feel that this so unfair.

Earlier this year i started noticing that the dashboard of my toyota camry 2008 has become sticky and shiny. initially i thought it was because i didn’t clean it. but as i tried to wipe and clean, it got worse because of the stickiness. it was only after i looked it up on google that i learned that dashboards should never become sticky and shiny in the first place. i never received any notice about my car being one of those models that have this issue.

The problem i am having with my 2008 toyota camry is that the dash is melting leaving a very shinny look to it. when the sun hits it reflects off the glass making it diffucult to see. at night the street lights and on comming traffice tighs also reflect making it difficult to see. plus its very sticky and eveything that flys by dust lint hair will stick to my dash, very unappealing and dirty.

Car has always been garage kept and use windshield cover when located outside. noticed the dash was very sticky and shiny after the car had been sitting outside. called the dealer to ask about the problem. they said that they knew of the problem but that my car was no longer covered by warranty or by the warranty extension. they recommended that i file a complaint with toyota corporate. i filed a complaint with toyota who said they would investigate. i got a call today stating that they would not cover the vehicle. don'y know why they won't fix it since it is a known manufacturer's defect. they glare off the dash is so bad that it is difficult to see when driving. it's a real safety concern.

The ac does not blow cold air at all. the eco button doesn’t work. when pressed, the car stalls. this was while the car was parked. too afraid to try while driving. visibility is poor. i’ve replaced the brakes numerous since achieving ownership.

My dashboard has somehow melted and is completely sticky! there are so many things stuck to it and cannot be removed- an entire piece of paper, plastic pieces, fizz, dirt, etc.. i honestly do not know how this happened but it has gotten worse over the last year. i’ve tried to have it repaired but the price is outrageous, i do not know what to do at this point. my concern has heightened during the covid pandemic, as i’m paranoid that germs and many other things might be stuck on the dashboard. i’m not sure how likely that is, but i would really appreciate a recall or some sort of repair on behalf of this issue- as it is a fault of the manufacturer! thank you for your time.

I have had to add oil in between oil changes over the past 5 years, often twice between changes. after being told there was a recall of this specific issue from a mechanic, i then found out that it was beyond the length of time to get it repaired under the recall. i was then informed that i should have received a letter from toyota in the mail stating there was a recall. i never received a letter about this recall. i took the car into the toyota dealership in town about the issue and they said they could perform an oil test on it to see how much it was burning after 1,500 miles. upon bringing it back i was informed that my car hadn’t burned enough to their required amount (amount not disclosed to me) to do anything, but told me that i could always come back and have another oil test done. i find it very disturbing that this has been an ongoing issue and that there is a claim of a letter being sent to me when i never received one. it also appears that there are numerous individuals with this same year have had the same problems and nothing has been done about it. i am wondering if there has been an investigation to anything about the supposed letters that toyota has claimed to mail out? it is overall bad business on toyota’s part to not ensure that their customers are taken care of enough to want to continue buying their vehicles. will think twice before buying toyota again. *tr

The dash has become very sticky. not only is this bothersome as i can not lay anything on it without it sticking such as parking passes and such nor can i use a sin visor because part of it stuck to the dash but it is also a safety issue. the sticky melted dash causes a bad glare and you can't see very well out of the windshield.

The oil consumption is way too high! many similar complaints have been documented on other online forum. i have to refill my oil every 2-3 days. i noticed this issue significantly when my car began driving wierd only 2 weeks after an oil change & when i went to my mechanic, he said there was no more oil in my car. my car could have stalled anywhere. the fact that this is a well known but ignored issue is absurd

Engine is burning to much oil, last three oil changes i have been complaining to toyota dealer that car is getting low on oil on average every two weeks, i never received any letter from toyota regarding oil consumption. on last oil change in june 2019 engine light came on and i took car back to the dealer they diagnosed exhaust manifold needs to be replaced but never disclosed it is due to the too much oil consumption. recently, car is consuming too much oil and car is jerking when gas is pushed. finally, i searched online and found out that there is an oil consumption issue with 2008 toyota camry. please watch this video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbqxcqa_pjk i emailed toyota company about this issue they never replied in writing. they called me on phone and said since this car is older than 10 years and has more than 150,000 miles, so this issue is no more covered by toyota. they also claim that they mailed me a letter in 2015 which i never received., received other three letters about other recalls from toyota and these letters are online in my car profile, not the one about oil consumption. i always took my care to toyota dealer for oil change. i have been telling them that either you all are not putting enough oil, or it is burning too much oil, but they never disclosed oil consumption issue with my car model. i request ntsha to please investigate why 1. toyota never send me a letter via mail regarding this oil consumption? 2. why this letter is not showing in the car profile online but all others are. 3. why dealer never disclosed me regarding this issue, even car is consuming too much oil? toyota is a big company and should not get by from their responsibility of customer service that easily especially when they admitted there is a defect with these cars. i request ntsha please have toyota company fix my car. thanks for your help!

Lost power steering while parking the car, ps light also became on. the car became difficult to steer, but was able to complete parking job as the car was almost in parking position. called aaa and towed the car home (2pm, no dealer was open) and later drove to a nearby dealer (the aaa driver told me how to handle the steering). the initial diagnostic by the dealer (stevens creek toyota, san jose, ca) is an ecu failure. dealer told me that we were luck as it is very hard to control the car with this problem. i was lucky that it happened while we were parking the car. if it happened on highway, it can potentially cause crash for sure. car is 2008 camry hybrid, 105k mile. well maintained, all maintenance work were done by toyota dealer. what made me extremely concerned is that this car has a history of critical safety function failure in the past. 1) driver side winder switch was overheated and generated a lot of smokes. dealer said the switch has a defect, and i believe it led to a recall later. 2) driver side window wiper stopped moving while driving in rain, lost visibility in seconds. dealer said a defect in the motor cause the problem, but not sure whether it led to a recall. 3) ps / ecu problem that made the car hard to control. i think toyota is doing extremely poor on their car's safety. the dealer report is not done yet. i will update it later thanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Melting dash board

While on the way back from a short trip to california from arizona, our "service engine" warning light became displayed on our dash along with "check vsc system." the braking became somewhat erratic and the vehicle seemed to "wander" more within the lane on the highway casing us to reduce our speed. when arriving home we made an appointment to have our vehicle serviced and it was found to have a faulty anti lock brake actuator that had to be replaced at a cost of $2900.00. i am reporting this because of the article i found during my investigation of this issue stating "feds investigate braking problems in toyota camry hybrid" (https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news/feds-investigate-braking-problems-in-toyota-camry-hybrid-012814.html), along with a multitude of other complaints found on the web pertaining to this same issue.

The car was parked outside on the drive way and at 4am on 12/4/19 when i was about to go to work i realized the dashboard had exploded. no signs of a break in because the car was locked. i am not sure what happened but i have never had any issues since i got this car and out of a sudden the dashboard just explodes. what if this happened when i was driving? i am concern about all other owners of same year and model who are at risk of such explosion.

The toyota melting dashboard is horrendous. my dashboard is so gooey and shiny that on any day with mild sun it is hard to see out the windshield because of the reflection/shine. i am very worried this will lead to an accident. this is not a cosmetic issue, it is a very serious safety issue that toyota needs to address.

The dashboard and sun visor are melting. the melted dashboard is gooey, dust, debris, and any insect lying there gets stuck. the melted dashboard, dust, debris, and insects reflect on the windshield and create glare making it difficult to see the road. toyota response was that an extended warranty for the melting dashboard expired in 2017 and there was nothing they could do about the melting dashboard. we protected our dashboard from sun with a windshield sun screen always, so the problem took longer to occur. the sun visors plastic components melted and sun visor fell off the metal support. under sun and glare have to use hand to block unmaking it difficult to steer car or see road. toyota's response was to buy new sun visors.

My dashboard is melting from the sun. this is harmful to my help and this is the first car that i have ever owned that did this.

My dashboard became sticky last year. i have done what i can to properly clean it but it kept getting worse. now, i can’t even touch it without pieces of the dashboard coming apart. items like lint and dust stick to it. in addition, the dashboard becomes incredibly shiny at night with a terrible glare that makes it difficult to drive. toyota says they will not repair it because a voluntary recall expired in 2017. i never received that notice and was not contacted.

While traveling down a city street, my driver side airbag deployed without impact. my vision was impaired by the airbag deployment causing me to lose control of my car and hit a curb to the right side of my vehicle. the impact did not deploy the right passenger side airbag.

I purchased a 2008 toyota camry almost two years ago with 100,000 thousand miles. the car was running great until now, it has 120,000 miles now and is starting to burn a lot of oil between oil changes, it burns about one quart every 800 to 1000 miles.

Oil consumption. at 78,000 miles required a quart of oil after 3,000 miles but gets progressively worse. now at 135,794 miles used a quart of oil after just 459 miles.

Abs lights comes on, brakes lights come on, check engine light, the milage hand stop working and the air wont get cold when this happens.

Dashboard has melted and become sticky and highly reflective. when driving in sunlight it reflects onto the windshield and obscures vision. was never notified by toyota that it could be replaced, but only by a certain date. this has become a hazard because of the reflection on the windshield. nothing removes the stickiness and the reflection.

The problem started in my vehicle last summer, but i didn't know about ther extended warranty. the date i entered was the date i contacted toyota as i found information about this problem on the internet. i bought my vehicle used and went to the local toyota dealer asking if there were any problems i should know about, as i needed an extra key made and i inquired why i was there. i was told no problems, no recalls. i noticed the dashboard getting sticky the summer of 2017, but thought it was caused by the cleaner i used on the dashboard. this summer was even hotter and the finish on the dashboard began peeling, cracking, becoming shiney, and very very sticky to touch. so i did a google search. i typed in "how to clean a sticky dashboard" and guess what popped up, toyota camry's problems with a defective dashboard. they didn't recall it even though it covered several years, instead they extended the warranty. i bought my car used. i check with a local dealer, and i was told no issues. i called toyota today, and, i'm sol as the warranty has expired as of 11/2017. if i had known i could have gotten it replaced. i would also like to mention the defective visors, which i replaced at my cost as the extended warranty had expired. the fall down w/o warning and could have caused a crash. lets not forget the oil burning issue. this vehicle is from 2005-2011 is riddled with problems and toyota is leaving those of us who purchase used vehicles out in the cold. i'll never buy a toyota again if this is the customer service they provide to customers.

Within the last month i and other such as mechanic, body shop operators have noticed sticky and gooey dashboard, melting and very soft, especially in the hot and humid weather. have also noticed a glare on dashboard while driving. you can also put your fingernail thorough parts of the dashboard, very sticky and soft. contacted toyota at 800.331.4331 and was told that the warranty enhancement expired march 2018 and that they could not do anything since the warranty was expired . i have not experienced issues with the dashboard till this last month and was not aware of any issues concerning this part of the car. nor did i receive anything which stated there was anything going on with the dashboard for this make or model.

This is in regards to the class action lawsuit filed against toyota for the oil consumption for 2006-2011 vehicles equipped with the 2az-fe engine. i purchased my 2008 toyota camry se in february of 2008. in march of this year as i was driving the oil light kept going on and i had just had an oil change not long before this happened. i stopped to have my oil checked and found out that i had almost no oil in my engine. put the oil in and it happened again. i began to research and found that toyota knowingly sold the vehicles with the piston defect. i called toyota and they told me they would not honor the repair due to the fact that it was over the 10 year anniversary date. the mileage was under 150,000 (112,000) and i was 2 months past the date and they will not honor the repairs to my vehicle. i have attached the oil consumption test invoice done by a toyota dealer and the letter sent to toyota. i can not afford to spend $3000 to $5000 to fix this problem. the car has also lost value and i could find myself in a dangerous situation if the engine fails. i need to know my options. toyota should fix my car at no charge to me.

My engine is burning oil at a fast rate. i have to add 2-3 quarts of oil between oil changes in order to keep the correct oil level. it has just over 100,000 miles so it is out of the 60k mike powertrain warranty. this wasn’t a problem for my car until around 90k miles. so it was already out of the warranty range when i discovered something was wrong. this is a faulty design by toyota and the car should be recalled and fixed at no cost to the consumer. their brand is built on reliability and that’s what i thought i was getting when i purchased this car. i was deceived by toyota.

Due to the toyota sticky dash problem caused by material degradation, i am experiencing a safety situation when sunlight produces a glare off the shiny dash surface. the glare is at its worst when driving into the sun. upon calling toyota, they stated that their voluntary warranty extension period has ended and there is nothing they can do for me.

Takata recall, oil consumption.

When driving the car, the check vsc system, abs icon and sometimes the battery icon appeared on screen. shortly after it starts to affect the entire car where it starts losing power in the cabin as well as exterior of the car. the vehicle also experience couple of bad shakes followed by speed decreasing, odometer going haywire where you are speeding or giving gas but the odometer is at 0. finally the car comes to a stop. it acts totally weird. if you are turn off the car to turn it on again, the car does not turn on. there is no ignition clicking as well. when this occurred the first time, the clicking of starting the engine could be heard. the second time, it was as the car has completely died although battery still has power since the dashboard lights do turn on. both of the time the accident was avoided. the first time the vehicle was luckily pulled into a side street and not on main road. the second time it was close enough but was able to pull on to the side street and to a parking space. in the first attempt, the battery was jumped and took off the cable in couple of minutes and finding the car dead. this was thought that the battery was bad. second time, new battery was installed and the similar incident was experienced. when the new battery was installed, the car was 'ok' for couple of days but the battery icon would come and go. when the above issue was experienced again and this time on the new battery, it was jumped and stayed for 5 minutes before driving away. the battery icon still comes and goes and it is not due to the battery being lose. everything is tightened properly. this was not experienced in the 10 years of owning this car. there are no major accidents on the cars. there was nothing minor or major happened to the car prior to the incidents

The dashboard of the car is melting and has become very shiny causing a glare on the windshield that partially obscures the view of the road, particularly when there is bright sunshine. toyota already acknowledges the safety issue and extended the warranty on the dashboard to 10 years. my car (purchased new) did not exhibit the melting issue until after we moved it from northern states, md and mi to fl starting in jan 2016. the failure only apparent after the extended warranty or 10 years expired in oct 2017. the reflection of the dashboard upper surface on window is highly distracting and significantly obscures vision of the road.

Excessive oil consumption. this is actually my father's car. his name is [xxx] and he has asked me [xxx] to act on his behalf. [xxx] is 91 years old and does not use computers. i talked to a toyota customer service representative about their "warranty enhancement notification" letter # ze7and was told that my fathers car does not apply because toyota put a cut-off at 150,000 miles or 10 years from first date of issue. my father is the second owner of this car and he has owned it for about 2.5 - 3 years. when he purchased it, it had about 130,000 miles on it, it now has 158,3000 miles. he has never received a notice or letter from toyota notifying him of oil consumption issues. i was driving with him in late january of 2018 when the oil warning light lit up on the dash, i immediately pulled over as i knew he had just had the oil & filter changed at the local jiffy lube about 1500 miles prior to what the mileage read. i was very angry when i saw it didn't register on the dipstick and i had to add about 1 1/4 quarts of oil. i thought jiffy lube shorted him on oil and i then started changing it myself. i keep a close watch on the oil consumption and have found that i need to add about one quart every 1200 miles. the engine is the 2az-fe, 2.4l and is involved with the oil consumption problem that toyota has acknowledged, but will not seem to help since the car has over 150,000 miles on it. as a consumer i think this is wrong on toyota's part and that they should stand behind their product when it is their fault for knowingly using faulty parts/ material, then leaving the consumer to absorb the cost. Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact had the transmission replaced three years ago. afterwards, the transmission began hesitating when attempting to shift into higher gears. the contact believed that she paid for a transmission that was never replaced. the repair was performed by moss bros. toyota of moreno valley (12630 motor way, moreno valley, ca 92555, (951) 247-8000). the contact called the manufacturer approximately a year ago who promised to conduct an investigation, but the contact had not heard back. the dealer even informed the contact that the manufacturer paid for half of the transmission repair cost. the vehicle was not repaired again. the failure mileage was 135,000.

The drivers side sun visor has failed. the internal clips mechanism is broken causing the visor to fall down while driving and blocking my vision to see the road and other drivers. . this is dangerous and could cause an accident. i have 3 young adults in my home who refuse to drive the car because of it. toyota claims to have sent a recall for the part that i did not receive although i have received other recall postcards for this car. they are stating the recall is no longer valid but the problem is known to them and has continued in the following years model cars and yet they will not cover it. i feel this qualifies for a class action suit.

The dashboard is cracking and meaty and i’ve been calling every toyota because i know this is a recall and they been telling me that they can’t help me with this problem they said that i have to pay for it 1,500$ i will get on contact with the tv news and let them know what’s going on with toyota i really love toyota but at this point i’m really upset with this.

The 2008 toyota camry se has a oil consumption problem, toyota has known about this issues since their 2007 camry models and continued their deception through the 2009 camry models. i've had my vehicle tested twice by the local dealer only to be misled. my vehicle has been loosing oil since the first months of parches. toyota has been concealing the oil consumption issue from the owners of these vehicles.

Excessive oil burning, i do have high mileage; odometer at oil change at hendrix toyota on february 11, 2019 was 195,562. today february 28, 2019 my odometer is at 196,162. i now have to add more oil to my car today, when only 17 days ago 5 quarts was added. i a afraid that i may not catch it in time to add oil, and the engine would lock up. the oil is really burning too fast.

Excessive engine consumption which started after 145,000 and because i don't put a lot of miles on my car. i am out of warranty which expired march 2018. i feel because the issue is a mileage issue this should be recall because of the number of cars involved.the car has lost mpg and takes one quart a month.

"toyota piston ring recall"i have not recieve a notice that a recall for 2008 camry, which i purchased in june of 2017. i have driven it only 6,000 miles and have changed the oil twice. both times, i realized that the amount of oil in the car was abnormally low. i recently got an oil change at valvoline store, about 1200 miles ago, on march 15, 2018. it is already dangerously low, after driving in a normal fashion, 10 days later. i am now aware that a recall has occurred for millions of toyotas having the improper piston rings installed. since i bought the car during this recall period, i would like to have the issue resolved by toyota bearing all of the costs to repair it. this ongoing problem will prove to be fatal to the engine in my cat and will continue to be a safety concern, should the engine seize, or otherwise malfunction, while i am driving it. i have visited and addressed my issue with my local, copeland toyota dealership. they deny any responsibility to repair it. i have spoken with 2 representatives at toyota headquarters whom also deny that toyota has any responsibility. there are still millions of cars by thus maker, out on the road, driven everyday with this safety issue. i would like to hear from another authority , what i am to do about getting toyota to fix my car.

Excessive oil consumption, oil light never turns on even thought there is no oil in resivior, brought to attention or spot city toyota dealership dallas and was never resolved prior to damage of engine.

I have noticed exceessive oil consumption since 2015 is 2016 and have gone through numerous repairs only to still have the same problem. the latest estimate is for an engine replacement because after all of this time one guy actually noticed that the oil was literally burning up right after he changed the oil. i have been stranded on the interstate at night with a toddler for hours, as well as not being able to start the car at times. i have also experienced my car randomly shaking and smoking in traffic, after which the check engine light would come on. my car has been stationary for weeks at a time, most recently this past week after i was unable to find out who could fix it and not keep ripping me off. to find out there was knowledge of this issue by toyota and nothing was sent to me says a lot about how the lives of their customers, and/or their customer family and others on the road, are actually valued. the number of camry’s manufactured and sold to unknowingly trusting consumers is both shocking and scary.

Excessive consumption of motor oil. i have taken it to the dealer twice. they have sealed the oil gauge and when i return they have told me that consumption is normal; it is not. every month i have to put a quart & a third to keep the vehicle at the mid-mark of the oil dip stick.

I have always had abnormal engine oil consumption such that i have had to add quarts of oil after 2,000-4,000 driving mileage which has been always far behind oil-filter replacement services at 5,000 miles. my wife’s toyota corolla does not have this consumption issue at all even though it is one year older. ultimately, in 2016, i took my camry to a toyota center and they suggested to run an engine oil consumption test (which toyota had offered in a recall due to a manufacturing problem in the engine -- either in pistons or rings, or both). i accepted to run the test, and after the test, the technician confirmed that the test did not show significant engine oil consumption, and they did not fix my car. this engine oil consumption problem is a toyota manufacturing fault and must be fixed as soon as possible by toyota at any time without any deadline. toyota announced 2008 camrys have this problem, and the problem is there in all 2008 camry cars not only in diagnosed cars. technicians may make mistakes in running the test; however, the manufactured pieces (piston and/or ring in my case) are all faulty in all 2008 camrys. requesting to run a test is not reasonable at all for a car type that is legitimately proven by the manufacturer or numerous customers to possess a faulty piece or pieces. i called the toyota customer services north america during the past several days (february 24 and 26, 2018) and talked to several ranking customer services agents up to a supervisor. all of them failed to resolve my issue as i requested them to fix my car manufacturing problem at toyota expense. all in all, i strongly urge toyota to fix this issue timelessly before people fall into bigger and far more serious troubles of losing the car engines (and consequent safety issues) and filing numerous lawsuits against toyota.

Engine consumes oil during operation. as much as 1 quart is consumed in less than 1,000 miles. toyota is not standing by the fix or passes the test all the time.

Burning 1 qt of oil every 600 miles. toyota acknowledges there is a design defect but won't fix since it is past the warranty extension. how am i supposed to know there was a warranty extension? they said the dealer would tell me when i go into service. but, i say that i don't go to my dealer for service. they say that is why i should go to a dealer for service. really shady way to say you have provided a warranty extension for a known design defect but then do not provide adequate notification to the consumer. i have had the oil light go on well before the next oil change. this defect causes the engine to burn up to 4 to 5 quarts of oil between oil changes so can easily lead to an engine failure. this oil consumption defect can cause engine failure in a moving vehicle so it is a potential safety issue. if engine failure happens then it will cause an accident.

Takata recall: i was involved in a collision on january 27, 2018 with a jeep ranger in my 2008 toyota camry. i was getting on the freeway exit road, the posted speed was 65mph and had no time to avoid the accident. after making contact with the jeep my car then went into a fence. the air bags in my camry never deployed. and i have suffered from injuries and significant medial bills as a result of the air bags failure to deploy.

Excessive oil consumption

Dashboards can become cracked and/or sticky/melted over time. toyota issued a warranty enhancement notification on this issue which expired january 2, 2018. my 2008 camry did not experience this problem until may 2018. this is a huge safety hazard as the sticky/melted dash acts as a mirror reflecting any light into the drivers face. it is especially hazardous in night driving when street lights and headlights glare into the drivers face reducing visibility considerably. if there are both street lights and oncoming headlights there is no visibility. it acts like a mirror on the dashboard. this should be a recall, not just a warranty enhancement.

Dash board and steering wheel is melting and the dash is causing a terrible glare on drivers wind shield making visibility hard . hands tend to stick to the steering wheel. i did buy a cover to help with this.

My vehicle has a oil consumption issue. i know there was recently a recall on this issue however i took the vehicle to toyota and they stated i needed to get the oil changed then drive 1000 miles. i did as they said and took it back just for them to tell me that the recall expired!!!! i never recieved any notices via mail or email. i feel as though they need to do something about this oil consumption

My dashboard is very sticky and shiny. i have tried unsuccessfully to clean it, and it is only getting worse. when driving during the day the sticky/ shiny surface causes a glare on the windshield and makes it difficult to see while driving. i learned earlier today that there was a recall for my car regarding this issue, however there was an expiration date to have this repaired which has already passed. therefore in order to have this fixed i will have to pay $1700 out of pocket. that is ridiculous. i am the original owner of this car and its ridiculous that i have to pay to fix a defect that is no fault of my own, but is the fault of the manufacturer. i did not receive a recall notice, if i had i would of had it replaced accordingly. this dash is a safety issue. i cannot properly see out of the windshield. there should not be an expiration date on fixing a safety issue!

I have a melting dashboard that interferes with my vision on the road. my dashboard is sticky and it’s cracking and it makes the car less attractive. i contacted toyota and they told me that there’s nothing they can do because a recall already happened and it’s expired which doesn’t make any sense because i didn’t receive any notice of a recall. now all i ask is that there be another recall or at least repair this because there’s already been times where i almost crashed due to this and one day i feel like it’s going to happen if this doesn’t get repaired.

My toyota camry is consuming engine oil very fast, i filled the synthetic oil and drived just 250 miles one way, oil level coming down to minimum

My wife was driving home one day and told me that the car was shaking violently. when i drove it, it shook but was not too bad. i thought it was a tire balancing issue. then it happened. i was driving one day on the freeway, the car started shaking and the abs was activated! i stopped the car on the road and i could smell the brake smoke. the the last straw, i'm driving home one day and the brakes seized i was able to get the car to the dealer who told me the brake actuator was the cause and it was common for the year/make/model but there was no recall and the cost of repair was $3k. three thousand dollars for something that is "common". after having my car for 3 days, toyota agreed to pay half of the costs, so it still cost $1500 to repair, plus $100 for a brake job, though i had a brake job 6 months old! like many many others, our 2008 toyota camry has and continues to experience major issues affecting the safe operation of the vehicle, including but not limited to brakes abs activating on its own, brakes seizing, premature brake pad/rotor wear, dashboard lights not working, car mats, brake pedal, sun visors, dash board melting, motor mount breaking for no reason, dashboard gauges not working (speedometer/odometer/fuel/temperature etc), cruise control working intermittently where it turns off by itself, door panels coming loose, speakers stop working properly. i could go on, but i think you get the picture. though we've enjoyed owning toyotas in the past, we've owned this one for almost this one for almost 11 years. and though we're looking to get a new car soon, i'm fairly certain that because of the issues and more importantly the corporate treatment by toyota regarding issues with their product, this may our last one. the nhtsa should encourage toyota to do whatever is necessary to fix these issues before they become fatal.

Took the car on a long trip across the country. had an oil change just before the trip. as we were arriving home, we lost power going up hills. pulled over and checked oil. it was low... very low. no warning lights or check engine ever came on. took it to the dealer. they said that it now needs new rings and that the cylinder's are scored. repairs totaling over $10,000. apparently there is a known defect with these cars that they burn oil. the low oil warning light didn't come on when i was 3 1/2 quarts low on oil. that is unacceptable! this car has been ruined due to this defect.

Interior visors broken and won't stay up and keep falling into the line of sight impairing vision.

I purchased the car in spring of 2015 and after about a year of having the car when i would bring in the car for oil changes the oil level was low and about a year ago the oil wasn't even registering on the oil stick and it has been burning oil at about 2 quarts every 1000 to 1500 miles. i took it to a mechanic today who checked out to make sure there was no oil leaks and he did not see any signs of oil outside the engine and only suggestion was to put new motor in or tear the current motor apart and replace anything worn which still may not solve the problem. so for now i'm going to get oil topped off every 1000 miles which is a major pain having to watch and remember when the last time i was in for a top off so i don't run my engine dry.

Dash material seems to be melting and reflection is causing visibility issues with reflection on windshield. dash has turnes into a putty type consistency which is stickky to the touch. it is not a crack due to heat exposure!!

Engine oil warning light came on and almost stalled engine on highway after breaking hard. heard later on about the excessive oil consumption problem because of poor rings. this can be dangerous.

My 2008 camry le has 35,000 miles on it. the coolant level has always been maintained. i am the original owner. the water pump bearings failed so that the pump made grinding noises, the drive shaft was wobbling, and the pump was leaking coolant. the noises began abruptly while the vehicle was being driven (6/16/18). i took the car to a shop (6/20/18) and replaced the pump, making sure the shop put in longlife coolant and replaced all the old coolant. a check of complaints against toyota water pump complaints reveals that premature failures are a common problem in camrys between 2007 and 2009. toyota does not want to accept responsibility for replacing the pumps. i kept the old water pump, serpentine belt, and shop invoice. i would like my costs reimbursed.

The driver side visor will not remain in correct position. the visor drops while vehicle is in motion startling the driver and temporarily impairing vision.

When i bought my car, the passenger sunvisor wouldn't stay up. the dealer said it was about a $500-$600 part & he wasn't going to pay to fix it. being that i never sat in the passenger side it did not bother me. there was however a recall on this part, & after many attempts to contact a local toyota dealership to order the part & schedule to get this fixed by the time allotment they had placed. so, my actual complaint is that they placed a time allotment. because, after that time allotment expired. all of a sudden the drivers side sun visor broke. you don't think about how useful a sun visor truly is, until you are no longer able to use it. it's installed for a reason, not to be something fancy in a car. i can't tell you how many times, the sun has played a major role in almost causing an accident due to failure to see oncoming traffic, traffic lights, etc. clearly, toyota recalled this due to the many failures it had already received. if, i was aware that the $500-$600 part was going to break a month after it's recall date. i most likely would of tried to get it replaced somehow? of, course they won't fix it until it's broken. it's going to be awfully hard to get a fair market value when trying to eventually trade in the car or sell it outright. when, it is obvious that something is wrong with the car. and, nobody is going to pay $500-$600 to fix this. so, for major safety issues to try & stop a wreck or fatality from occurring please do something about this. thanfully, my airbags have not been recalled yet! toyota is liable for this, & they should be mandated to fix this! the recall was for 2007-2011 toyota camry's

I had received the extended warranty coverage letter for the excessive oil consumption more than a year ago. no issues until possibly october 2017 when oil maintenance light kept coming on event after oil change after just 1000 miles (usually every 5000 miles before). then got car checked out and mechanic found almost no oil in car. car was driving poorly with sometimes stalling. i got an oil change and car worked fine for 2 weeks and had same problem.again, by this time, i remembered the warranty and went to toyota dealership where the told me the warranty was not valid due to car being over 10 years old. anyway they filled car with oil and told me to return in 1100-1300 miles for the results of the test which i will later know. i don't have much hope of getting this fixed under warranty.

In march of 2015, while leaving my place of employment parking lot the floor mat apparently interfered with the accelerator pedal causing the car to speed up resulting in loss of control, hitting a fire hydrant head on. the car was totaled. after the car was totaled, i received a recall notice regarding this issue shortly afterwards. a letter from my insurance company indicated that i was not at fault at causing the accident but rather the accident was the result of one or more recalls with regard to braking concerns: in the letter my insurance company referenced a recall notice; nhtsa campaign number: 10v017000. i have contacted toyota regarding this matter; however m requests have gone unanswered or have been ignored. when my car was totaled my insurance paid the fair market value to the lender which ended up creating a deficiency. i'm struggling try to pay for another vehicle as well as paying the deficiency.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. while driving various speeds, the horn would sound independently when making right and left turns. also, the air bag warning indicator illuminated independently. the contact drove the vehicle to the local dealer (westchester toyota sales, 2167 central park ave, yonkers, ny, 10710) where it was diagnosed that the bracket within the steering wheel failed and needed to be replaced. the dealer confirmed that the steering wheel and air bag were properly intact. the dealer stated that the failure was due to wear and tear. the vehicle was not repaired because the contact felt that he was not at fault and a crash did not occur. the manufacturer stated that they would not assist, the vehicle was not under warranty, and there was no recall. the manufacturer referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

My car has been very well maintained, everything on-time. back august, jiffy lube told us that my car is consuming about 2 qt every 3k miles. i read about it and it is a known issue with toyotas, i need them to resolve my car issue because it is very expensive for me to carry with a manufacturer faults.

On multiple occasions while driving brake warning lights come on brake pedal sinks to floor. had this fixed as part of recall in 2014. problem is now back. brake fluid level was just above minimum. added some brake fluid and problem stopped.

My sunroof exploded while i was driving. i heard a loud bang and it sounded like my tire blew or something else and then i heard air. i thought one of the windows was hit but it was actually my sunroof. there's huge hole and glass is shattered. i am thankful that it wasn't open and that my son was not in the car at the time.

Just found out that there is a problem with air bags,, my dashboard is melting and went vero beach toyota and they’re no help,, how can i get help to fix the airbag and if possible the dashboard

Excessive oil consumption, burns more then a quarter after 1000 miles.

My dashboard has been melting and is now a shiny, gooey substance that i can't clean. it's worse because when the sun hits the shiny dash i'm blinded. driving home in the afternoon after work is so dangerous for me because when it reflects onto the windshield i can barely see anything. i also believe it may be the cause of this oily film that has been forming on my windshield. i keep cleaning but it won't stay clean. it leaves this iridescent film that just keeps forming again.

I have owned my camry for several years, and i bought it from the original owner (family), who purchased it new off the lot in 2009. since 2010 the car has started to burn more and more oil. in late 2015-2016 (after the oil consumption recall was closed) my catalytic converter failed due to the oil consumption. during the recall, i had it checked by a dealership who said that it passed. at that time i was adding at least a quart every 1000 miles. they told me that was normal. currently i run through all of the oil, mid way through the oil change period. i'm burning through roughly 4 quarts of oil every 1500 miles. it cost me over $1000 to get the catalytic converter replaced, and at this current rate i'm going to need to get the second one replaced soon. i love my car and this is the only problem i've had with it. but the rate of oil burning is excessive and needs to be fixed.

I received a recall notice for oil consumption i believe in the summer of 2015. i didn't have any issues with oil consumption at the time. however around october 2015, i began to notice the car was burning through oil, i requested a oil consumption test---but it came back that there was no issue. at the time of the oil consumption test my car was at 190,000 miles. now, the car is starting to burn more oil even after regular oil changes from moss bros toyota in moreno valley. i just got my oil changed on august 4th 2017. well two weeks (8/18/2017) after my change i noticed the oil sensor would flash every time i came to a stop. i check the oil in my car and there was barely any on the dipstick. as a result, i added more oil myself to avoid burning up the engine. i called the service advisor at moss bros who helped me two weeks prior. i explained the situation and told him i had an oil consumption test 2 years ago and was advised everything was normal. unfortunately, he said there was nothing toyota could do to help because of the high mileage on my camry. he said it would cost $5,000 to replace the piston rings or $4000 to replace the engine. as a result, i filed a claim with toyota consumer affairs (case#1708181590)--the girl melissa on the phone didn't want to help and told me toyota wouldn't be able to pay for the warranty work because of high miles. toyota knew the piston rings were faulty from the beginning. they didn't want to spend the money or hours/years trying to repair/replace engines in these cars. so they make the consumer do this stupid worthless consumption test to avoid recall repairs. they are obviously trying to avoid taking care of a problem that many of us are facing. i purchased this vehicle in october of 2007, brand new off the lot. took it in for all of the regular maintenance appointments and know that i did everything right.

The dashboard is melting away. the glare currently is so severe i have difficulty seeing through the windshield on a sunny day. the dash looks as if someone sprayed glue all over it and feels that way. i was at the dealer in janurary as toyota has a safety campaign currently which does no good if they have no parts.

The sun visor on 2007 to 2011 toyota camry are defective. they droop and eventually fall off due to usage. the visor has now fallen off twice. toyota knows there is a problem and extended their warranty for this problem 7 years but it continues to fail over and over. bad design, bad customer service.

Toyota excessive engine oil consumption. toyota issued a warranty enhancement notification on their camry's - ze7 for "excessive engine oil consumption". my car was tested and failed the test in january 2016. toyota has not repaired the vehicle and i am unable to get an appointment. each time i call the dealership, they say toyota does not have enough parts and there is a backlog of thousands of vehicles waiting to be repaired. again today when i called, i was told they are just now repairing vehicles that failed the test back in march of 2015, failed the test 15 months ago, and that my vehicle will not be repaired for at least another year!! horrible customer service. if toyota can prepare parts for new camry sales, they should be able to prepare parts to repair vehicles they already sold. i have reported this problem to the local oxmoore toyota dealership as well as toyota consumer affairs. many families are going through this same issue. toyota needs to make this a higher priority and stop stringing families (customers) along. as consumers, what can we do?

I'm experiencing a melting dashboard that causes a such glare on the windshield that it has the effect of of us not being able see thorough the windshield as was intended by its installation. we now wear uv sunglasses in order to try to combat the glare. this melting dashboard is a safety hazard! i've sent/spoken with toyota and its dealers and they have not agreed repair or replace my melting dashboard. did i mention it is a safety hazard and has further decreased the re-sale value.

The driver side sun visor keeps falling off and blocks driver's view. i searched online and it seems that it's a common problem for toyota camry model between 2008 - 2011. many owners complains about it. i contacted toyota headquarter but they refused to fix the problem

Oil consumption problems with my car. i went to the dealer and they confirmed that through a test, however they said that they can't fix it because they don't have the parts and that they don't know when they are going to receive them!

The car made a ‘ding’ sound when the breaks were applied while it was being driven. upon checking, i noticed that the engine oil was extremely low - the dip stick showed no oil on it. i was alarmed and immediately added 3 quarts of oil - for oil to show up on the dip stick. at first, i figured that, maybe at the previous oil change, sufficient oil was not added. soon thereafter, i got an oil change. about 3 months later i began to hear the ‘ding’ sound again. i checked the oil and found that it was low and again it did not even register on the dip stick. i added 3 quarts of oil and proceeded to get an oil change; this time with tansky toyota dealership. three months later, the problem recurred. this time i was concerned and checked all the mail i had received from toyota and noticed a warranty enhancement letter that stated - 2008 camry’s had an ‘oil consumption problem’. i immediately went to tansky toyota dealership and reported the problem and they began an ‘oil consumption test’. after the test, they told me that there was no problem and that it was a normal occurrence. clearly, i was not convinced with the report and challenged the adviser. he remained adamant that there was no problem and that the test result was normal; he told me to check and add oil as needed regularly. i contacted the general manager of tansky. she had the service manager, call back a week later. he never acknowledged that the car had an ‘oil consumption problem’; rather that this is a normal occurrence and advised that the oil be replenished on a regular basis. i responded that, this was something that i have never experienced on my other toyota cars; but my words fell on deaf ears. i am concerned that this issue will damage the engine; in addition the problem is a safety issue, should the oil be depleted while on long distance trips.

The dashboard is sticky, melting, and causes a very dangerous reflection on the windshield from the sun, making it extremely difficult to see out the windshield while driving or otherwise.

The crash happened in a parking lot on march 19th, 2016. i had entered into the parking spot, by turning right. the car had come to a complete stop and my foot was on the brake pedal. suddenly i heard a loud revving noise and before i could even react to it, the car had jumped on to the walkway of the building. since i had stopped, my foot was on the brake pedal and even though i was pressing on it really hard, the car didn't stop. it slowed down a little bit for a fraction of a second, but then accelerated itself again, jumped ahead once more, went through the awning of a business suite in the building and hit a light post. the airbags didn't deploy. the car was totaled. as, i had turned right to enter into the parking spot, the steering wheel was still turned to the right and the car turned right and went parallel to the cinder block wall of the building, instead of going straight and hitting the wall, which could have turned fatal for me and my child. this vehical had been recalled earlier. i had received the recall notice from toyota in early 2010 for "potential floor mat interference with accelerator pedal (safety recall 90l)" and had it repaired in may 2010, from a local toyota service center.

Dash is melting. the residue from the dash is causing a sticky reflective surface. the reflective surface is distracting for drivers and can during bright days cause reduced visibility.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 toyota camry. the contact stated that the front passenger side spring prematurely fractured and then months later, the front drivers side springs prematurely fractured. an independent mechanic repaired the vehicle for the failure that happened twice, on each side in the front. it was mentioned that the metal material might not be structurally sound. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 34,902.

My 2008 camry xle has a very shiny, sticky dashboard. this problem has been getting worse over the period of a few years. now, i can hardly see to drive because of the glare on the windshield when the sun is shining bright and sometimes with certain night driving conditions.

August 10 2015 i was driving my car when the windows began to go up and down by it self then the driver window began to smoke i pulled over where i was and got out to get help by the time i got back out the driver door had flames coming out of the car all the doors locked and by the time the fire dept got there they had to pry the doors and hood open nothing electrical worked they got the fire out and my car was concidered a total loss toyota came out to look at my car in september and i got a response in october where my case manager troy higga told me it was do to the recall that my car cought fire and they would take care of any finance that i paid out of pocket here we are 10 months later i have heard nothing im over 6000$ in dept my credit messed up and my savings gone when i got that recall in the mail i did call toyota and they told me that they did not have the parts in yet they would contact me back when they had it in also

The abs and brake lights of my toyota 2008 camry come on and off intermittently. when the lights are on, the whole dashboard readers; the speedometer, rpm, engine temperature and other gauges jump and flicker, the light markers for abs and parking go off. went to dealer to get it checked out but there were no codes to diagnose the issue. it keeps happening at various times of the day (morning and evening), when the car is stopped or moving, and on all types of roads and driving conditions (city streets, highway, at a stop light, at a stop sign, when i am turning). i have noticed that toyota has already issued a recall for the same issue for the 2007 camry hybrid. given the sheer number of complaints i have read about this issue for the regular camry 2007, it seems ridiculous that toyota has not issued a recall for this for the 2007 camry.

Excessive oil consumption 1qt every 500 miles

Sudden brake failure due to brake booster leak/malfunction. many other same complaints on same part failure for same camrys on internet blogs. toyota refused any responsibility despite car having less than 40,000 miles!

When i took my 2008 camry in to the dealer for an oil change they found no oil in the car. they said i needed to take an "oil consumption test". they did something to my car and i drove for another 2000 miles and brought it back in. i was told it had failed the oil consumption test and that i would be put on a waiting list for repair which is covered by an extended warranty from toyota. i was told the wait could be as long as six months and that in the meantime if my car runs out of oil and anything happens to the engine, the warranty would be void. my car might have oil in the morning and the be completely out of oil by the afternoon. i feel i should be given a loan car to drive while i am waiting for these repairs. i contacted toyota directly in california and they would not approve this request. the parts needed for the repair are having to be manufactured and this takes months. my dealer told me there are people waiting since last year for repairs. i'm just asking for a car to drive while i wait so that i don't have to drive mine and risk voiding the warranty.

Sun visors for both passenger and driver broke. i can understand the driver side to come off, but the passenger side too came off. i am the only one driving the car. this has to be a serious quality issue. my warranty expired last year but the poor quality of the camry visors cannot be excused. its ok for me to spend money to get it repaired, but i do mind but the amount of time i have to spend to get it fixed. this is just very annoying.

When slowing down on intersection on the stop sign with the intention to completely stop, i pressed the brake pedal and removed my foot completely from accelarator pedal. car engine suddenly revs up and engine rpm shoots up, i need to press brake really very hard to stop the car to go into the middle of intersection or eventually car wiill roll into intersection and i had to cross the intersection to avoid collision with vehicles coming on cross intersection. this has happened at least 5-6 times. i took the car to the mechanic and he ran the diagnostics test but could not find any thing wrong. i took it to the toyota dealership in freehold he suggested to remove the unsecured floor mat, which i did but still having the same issue. this issue was experienced yesterday also 2 times.

My toyota camry hybrid all sudden after 2 minutes of driving, had all of its warning lights on (like abs, engine...) and with the vcs warning text across the dash board. it was very hard to control the vehicle to pull it off the road. i am not sue what is happening, but god forbid if this thing happened on the highway, i would have been in accident. the card was in no drivable and constituted a huge hazard. a car must never be allowed to lose power suddenly while driving. scary experience and must be looked by the relevant authority to compel toyota to investigate and may be recall those hybrids.

While driving highway, approx. 50 mph, my car engine quit running with no unusual noise, no warning lights or indicators. oil was gone, but the oil indicator light had not lighted. no warning to quit driving before engine damage was experienced. the engine has not been disassembled for definitive diagnosis, but two auto repair shops, one being a local toyota dealer service dept., have indicated that the engine must be replaced because the engine is knocking loudly and the bearings are probably overheated and "welded" to the part surrounding them. i learned from toyota corp. about their "excessive oil consumption" extended warranty program, but they are refusing to stand behind this defect in my car and refuse to perform repairs at their cost. my engine burned up because the oil was depleted within a two month period - this happened on 12/28/15, and i had topped off the oil in october with 2.5 qts, and the remaining oil was clean. toyota refuses to acknowledge that a highly abnormal event has occurred with my car, gave me no warning to act in a safe manner, and led to engine failure with repairs estimated $5,300 - $7,600.

Toyota camry 2008 was parked with the engine off. driver, sitting in driver's seat listening to the radio, hears an explosive noise directly behind him. turns around to see two four-inch diameter holes on the right side of the back window. the entire back window exhibits fracturing. within five minutes, ninety percent of the back window has disintegrated into pieces. no one is near the car. no evidence of projectiles in or around the car. ambient temperature is in the seventies. weather was raining. driver had engaged the rear window defogger prior to spontaneous shatter. defogger was off at the time of shatter. air conditioning was not on prior to shatter. mileage 62250. toyota disowns responsibility for the spontaneous shatter.

I bought this camry 08 last year at 43000 miles on it, when i drive it on the freeway or city road , the front end was bounce exessively and not really stable. after i do the inspection and check the strut, the front right strut need replacement (it's bouncing a lot when i push it down and release). my complaint is why it fail for only 45000 miles?. is this suppose to be a recall for replacement?. because it involve safety driving. and i read, there 30 complaints already about this suspension.

I purchased a used/certified 2008 toyota camry in 2012. i had not noticed any problems with the car until about a month ago when i kept hearing a bumping sound coming from the the passenger rear tire, after having the tires air pressure checked the problem seemed to be gone. however, later the car began pulling to the left, whenever i drove on a side street, the pulling was not there on the freeway. things changed on this past sunday, on my way to take my grandchildren home from church the steering wheel was uncontrollable and the car pulled sharply to the left and i decided to pull off the street, i was afraid to continue driving because i didn't want to put my grandchildren in any further danger. i had to call my daughter to come pick us up. the car was taken to the repair shop to get a wheel alignment. i told them about the problem with the steering wheel they assured me that they would be able to take care of the problem. the problem with the steering is still there, why hasn't there been a recall for this problem. i am afraid to drive my car!

Purchase a 2008 camry and notice that the dashboard is sticky and shiny and real mess. i took the car to toyota place because of a recalled on the power switch in august 2015. i was told that there is a recalled on the dash board but i have not received a call from the dealership. today i called and was routed to a salesman who was trying to get me to purchase another toyota. i don't think i will purchase another toyota. my first one was great a 2005. but this second one 2008 has made me not believe in the product anymore. what happen to toyota dependability? this is what made me buy the product in the first place. accountability and dependability has disappear for most car companies. what's a consumer to do just lie down and take poor workmanship?

Excessive oil consumption i own a 2008 toyota camry le the currant mileage is 149,000 miles. it burns one quart of oil every 250 miles, and it's costing me a lot of a money. this problem is not only from me their are much more people complaining online. in addition to that their is lawsuit against toyota because of excessive oil consumption. the government needs to take action and make this a recall for all vehicles that are affected. i also feel very sorry for the other owners because i know how it feels, so please help. thanks

I did not have an accident. i just wanted to vent my feeling on the problem. toyota issued a warranty enhancement notice concerning the sun visor assembly. the notice gave you 7 years from the date of purchase which seem like a long time. they stated only to bring it in if you have a problem. i did not have a problem until 9 months pass the 7 years. this could be a safety issue as the visor fell down blocking my view. i had to remove it in order to see the road. my question is why was this issued as a warranty enhancement notice instead of a recall. they must know that customers have a problem with it since they issued the warranty enhancement notice.

I purchased this vehicle used from savannah hyundai. i immediately noticed and was very concerned about the substantial glare that comes off the melted, sticky dashboards. which has impede the ability to safely operate this vehicles. there is a reflection off of the melted dashboard that has from time to time temporarily blind me. alternately, this may , very well could lead to an accident. also, i am very concern about the chemical smell associated with this 2008 toyota camry dashboards that seem to be melting and prematurely degrading.

Purchased a used 2008 camry on 7/15/15. the car was serviced for the oil change right before i got it and i still had over 900 miles left before i hit the 3000 mile mark to have the oil change done. we checked the oil and it was completely dry. not a drip on the dip stick! i think it's safe to say that this vehicle has a engine oil consumption issue.

Just purchased a used 2008 toyota camry on 7/15/15. on 9/1/15 we were driving at about 25mph. when we put the driver's side visor down to protect against the crucial sunlight the visor snapped! currently will not stay up or completely down. this is causing a safety issue because its nearly impossible to see with the visor snapped.

The exhaust shield that protects the fuel tank from exhaust heat fell off. upon inspection, it appears as though the fasteners used to install this critical heat shield are of a dissimilar metal to the heat shield itself. this is evidenced by corrosion electrolysis around the fasteners only, the rest of the shield is corrosion free. a little research has shown that this is a well known problem that could prove dangerous if not corrected.

The sun visor became weak and has broken completely. i would venture to say the visor has less than the average amount of normal wear and tear. the visor itself will not stay up in the proper position nor stay down/back (more flatly adjacent to the windshield). this causes decreased/awkward visibility when driving in general and offers no relief when needed from driving into the sun's path. it is also very distracting (even frustrating) when operating the vehicle.

While driving, the driver side sun visor began to slowly drop down and eventually fell completely off falling into my face and onto my lap. the visor appears to have broken off at the point where it is held to the car itself. there was no warning it was about to break completely off and fall on my face. when toyota was called to check to see if it is a know issue, toyota's response was there is a known issue with my vehicle. apparently the sun visors are drooping and breaking on select models, causing then to fall off. they advised my vehicle was included in this visor issue. however, there is not a recall. i advised toyota this is a safety issue. i drive to and from work often driving in the direction of direct sun. not having a visor is a safety issue. i now am concerned abvout this issue. toyota's response was this is no longer covered under the vehicle warranty and they will not cover the repair cost. toyota advised if i wanted to have the issue fixed, i would need to purchase a new one at my cost. this issue is more around safety and supporting the "known issue." i now am at risk of an accident without a working visor due to this known issue which toyota themselves identified.

The dashboard is melting in the heat. it get's sticky and shiny in the heat and reflects a glare on the windshield. you can put your hand on it and it sticks to the dash and you could peal the surface off.

On may 22, 2015, when i got into my car, the sun visor was down. i tried to put it back into its proper place, but it would not stay up. no matter what i tried, it kept flopping down, obstructing the view when driving. if i push it forward toward the front window, i can see better, but still i don't have maximum visibility. it flops back down at times, totally blocking my view of the road and the review mirror. this is a definitely safety hazard and if authorities were aware, i would probably be given a citation for driving an unsafe car. when it flops down and obstructs view of the rear view mirror, the only way i can see what is behind me is by using the side view mirrors which takes longer and, therefore, could easily cause an accident. i find that many others have filed complaints about the sun visor problem, yet toyota continues to deny responsibility. if this is the way toyota stands behind their cars, i need to return to nissan for my next car.

Golf size hole in the engine according to the adjustor. incident occurred while driving on the highway. the car was serviced on time. the oil light used to come on occasion along with the engine light. this was within service sticker window. each time oil (1qt to 2qt) was added to the tank. on the date of incident, while driving, we felt like we drove over a metal object that impacted the engine. cannot believe that the engine blew up on it own. if it did - that is a major issue as it could have caused unnecessary damages both to vehicle and drivers.

My abs light and brake light came on and my speedometer, tachometer, temp gauge, gear lights stop working, and the a/c stop blowing cold air, and the gauges bounce around. tried replacing the dash and it did not work. took it to several mechanics and they cannot figure out what is wrong. had my brakes checked out and they are fine. i can push the up/down lock button on my door and the gauges will start working, but that does not always work. i have to put gas in my car every week because of the gas hand not working properly either. i have read several complaints on the same problem and no solutions and no recalls. this should be a recall issue. there should be a recall.

The vehicle is burning excessive engine oil. i received the paper from toyota three months ago that they are processing to build the part for the solution of burning excessive oil.(the paper does show about the reacall of excessive engine oil burning they said i will receive the letter in two months to fix the problem from the dealership since then i have not received any letter for the recall.) thanks

The sun visor on the drivers side won't stay in place - it falls down and totally obstructs my view out of the front window. toyota refuses to fix this so i now have it tied up with string so i can see out the window. i don't know how long this temporary fix will last! this is my first toyota - i've always had fords for many years (40+) and have never experienced this problem with any other car! toyota received numerous complaints about this - especially with the 2007 thru 2011 camry models. they sent us a "enhancement warranty" in 2012. earlier this year, the sun visor began to slowly drop only about an inch. living in michigan with all the ice and snow and since the dealer is about 50 minutes away in good weather, i decided to bring my car in for this when my oil change was due, which was in may. when i called to make the appointment i was told that it's out of warranty and no longer covered by the enhanced warranty - that it expired in jan 2015. i called the 800 # and they refused to cover it. this is a dangerous situation - which blocks the front window view - it is a clear safety hazard!! the sun visor on the drivers side of my car is completely dropped (won't stay up at all), while tons of others toyota owners have same/similar problems - they have either dropped or drop suddenly when going over bumps, etc. - in others, they never know when this will happen and their view is obstructed! toyota is aware of this problem but refuses to acknowledge that this should be a recall!! toyota new motto should be "money is more important than lives" - or is this already their motto? please don't let toyota get away this serious defect too!! shame on toyota again!!

The engine consumes 1 quart of oil every 1200 miles. toyota says this is acceptable but 25% of oil loss is way too much. if i wait till the maintenance of 3000 miles, almost 75% of the oil will be gone and would cause damage to the car. *tr

I was in center lane. driver in right lane changed lanes and struck my 08 camry in passenger side. this forced my car head first into a concrete wall. a 3rd vehicle then struck the drivers door. air bags did not deploy. i had to be taken to the er by ambulance. i incurred shoulder, neck and head injuries as a result of the air bag failure. car was deemed a total loss. *tr

While driving or idling, brake and abs light get lit and speedometer is not working, odometer is jumping up and down and heat needle is intermittently going normal/cold. the mileage meter is not working and this all goes away when those lights either reset on their own or some other way not known to me how. while driving, not knowing how fast this vehicle going is very dangerous, i am a female and i drive most so the time during nights and i am very worry if something happens. i went for toyota service and they mentioned that the root cause of this situation was that i did not bring my car for maintenance with toyota in the first two years which is not true. i want to know if toyota is not doing something on this regards, i do not have that quantity of money to correct the situation and they mentioned that if it is not corrected i will have an accident because the brakes will fail. *tr

Oil light went on. i took the car to sun toyota, holiday, fl. they advised me to have an oil change at my expense and to come back later to see if there were any issues. i called later and they said it was too early and to come back at about 1100 miles. in the meantime, i received a letter from toyota re. warranty enhancement up to 10 years and 150k miles for excessive oil consumption. i was unable to return until today (3/28/15) despite my best efforts. the mileage was 1568 since the oil change and they said it was too late and outside their parameters. they would not do the test again for 6 months. i asked them to at least check the oil and they did so at my insistence and 2 quarts needed to be added and they advised me it was dangerous to drive the car with low oil and to check the oil every week and add oil as necessary. i complained to the service manager and he refused to do anything for 6 mos. i phoned the national toyota service center and they confirmed that the warranty enhancement existed but refused to do anything for 6 months. they want me to have the oil change done again at my expense for a second time and to pay for the diagnostics for their defective vehicle at my expense. they refuse to do anything about it at their expense for 6 months. i think they should take care of the oil change and the diagnostics and the repairs immediately at their expense. thank you. *tr

I was at a stop sign crossing an intersection that has no traffic signals. the speed limit on the street i was crossing is 45 mph. i looked both ways and saw no cars, so i proceeded to cross the intersection. as i entered the intersection, i was struck by a truck in the left front corner panel of my car. i spun several times and was struck again in the back of my car. i was knocked unconscious and did not regain consciousness until i was in the ambulance. i was transported to a trauma hospital where i was treated for a broken clavicle, broken ribs, multiple deep body bruising, and a concussion. i underwent surgery to repair my clavicle and to this day still recovering from my injuries. i am writing today to request an investigation be made into the fact that none of my air bags deployed in this accident. i have reached out to toyota and received no resolution. i would think that with the multiple points of impact on my vehicle that my side curtain air bag or my driver€™s airbag would have deployed. i believe that if the airbags had deployed, i possible would not have had the broken bones i suffered. i feel this issue needs to be looked into for at the very least to prevent further accident injuries. my car had been in for service multiple times over the year prior for engine issues and my engine did need to be rebuilt. i feel that my airbags may have been faulty as well. i am asking that toyota be investigated for their practices and that i be compensated at the very least for wages lost due to time lost from work and medical expenses. thank you for your time....updated 12/03/14 *bf

The issues started with both the abs and brake lights coming on every so often. the lights would come on for about a 30 seconds to a minute and then turn off. this would happen maybe once or twice a day. then they began to turn several times throughout the day for longer periods of time. when the abs and break lights are on, the speedometer and odometer falls to zero, and the temperature gage jumps up and down. the ac also begins to blow hot air when these lights are on and the car begins to shake when idle. it is very unsafe when the speedometer is not working and you cant tell how fast you are driving. it is also an issue when the other gauges in your vehicle are not working as you cant tell if something else is seriously wrong (for example, you cant tell if your car is actually running hot or cold because the temperature dial jumps up and down). i have researched this issue and there are a lot of people out there experiencing this same issue. i also reported these issues to toyota and shared with them my research and they basically aren't going to do anything about it. *tr

In march of this year i noticed an area on the dashboard. thinking someone had spilled something, i attempted to wipe it and the cloth literally stuck to the dashboard. it was gooey. over the next few months it got worse and more widespread to now be all the dashboard area. i am finding out that this issue is becoming more and more common. toyota should recall the dashboard and replace this defective equipment in the vehicle. it is a safety issue in the shiny sticky material reflects sunlight back into the eyes of the driver. additionally, keeping the car clean is extremely difficult because everything sticks to it and is impossible to remove without further damage to the vehicle. the problem has gotten so bad that there are spots where the dark material of the dashboard surface has come off and the surface beneath is now showing. i called the dealer and was advised that toyota knew about the issue in 2011 but i was never contacted as the owner of the vehicle. the vehicle was purchased brand new and i have been the only owner/driver of the vehicle. additionally, the vehicle is now out of warranty, so toyota will never be responsible for their defective manufacturing and cutting corners. please investigate this issue and ensure that for the good of the public and the safety of consumers purchasing these defective vehicles a recall is enacted. *tr

Camry is hit by a pick up truck on the left passenger side, causing the camry to lose control and rotate more than 360 degrees on the road but none of the airbags, even the side airbags deployed. i called toyota and asked by the side airbags did not deploy and was told that they could inspect it but they will be charging me $99 to check why the airbags didn't deploy. i was obviously distraught over the fact that they will charge me first before they can look at a potential safety issue about my vehicle and the person we talked to just basically asked me to call back if i wanted them to look into it and hung up. *tr

My engine mounts were broken -all of them. thought the engine was idling rough, but the engine was moving around within the car and "could have fallen out" is what i understood the mechanic to say. i previously reported very premature failure of brakes, broken water pump, belts, and more. now the engine mounts. i do not drive fast, and i drive smooth highways, not our locally bad streets. no reason the mounts should all be broken. there should be a recall on engine mounts and water pumps at the very least. *tr

[xxx] , wife, was parallel parking this vehicle driving in reverse. vehicle had unintended acceleration. brakes did not work. vehicle went up a set of cement steps and stopped for a second, but then accelerated in drive down steps into street. again brakes did not work. [xxx] drove vehicle into an alley and hit a stone wall where it stopped. engine was smoking. in reverse and in drive, [xxx] had her feet on the brakes. the brakes did not work. this was witnessed by her son, [xxx], who was the front seat passenger. Sporadic failure of the headlight(s) turning off either one or the other and at times both light go out at the same time. turning the lights off and then on again sometimes resets the light, but then go out again. changing the bulb did not correct this failure. contacting the dealer resulted in no action/resolution even though the vehicle was still under warranty. *tr

I purchased my 2008 toyota camry se on 8/18/2012. several days after the purchase i noticed that the dashboard was excessively sticky and shiny, so much so that the glare on the windshield made it difficult to see through the windshield while driving. i then returned to the dealership to complain about the matter, but no one at the dealership had any answers and their only solution to remedy the problem was to suggest that i purchase a dashboard cover.

Our family owns a 2004 toyota tundra which we love so that made us buy a camry in 2008 big mistake! ever since i bought this car new in 08' had nothing but mechanical issues and as of date 6 recalls and counting. a month after i purchased the veh they replaced my axle, brakes and then that's when the recalls starting coming in. from my visors falling to now the window recalls. my front dashboard is nasty sticky no matter how i clean it it's gross the sticky won't go away and the arms rests on the driver door and passenger sides are both rotten from the inside their cracked and broken. i don't use arm rests so they shouldn't be! the top ceiling cloth in my car fell down the 4th month i had my vehicle so my father spray glued it (how sad is that!). this was my first car i purchased brand new so going thru this after complaints at the dealership they still didn't do anything. i'm so upset i have no words left to say about this vehicle i'm driving a crap car that's falling apart from the day i purchased it. thank you toyota!!!!! unless they take care of my car situation i will never recommend toyota to anyone nor buy another toyota it's sad!!! *tr

We bought this vehicle used in march 2014, i noticed thruout the summer that the dashboard melts in the sun. it still melts even if we put up the windshield sun screen. i saw on the local news that this is an ongoing problem here in south florida.

My brakes needed replacing at approx. 40-44k miles. my belts/water pump broke/cracked at approx 50k miles. the mechanic said the water pump, if it ever broke at all, shouldn't break till min. 100k miles. i am about to take the camry to a mechanic to check engine racing and grinding front passenger side window motor. this car has been a money pit with awful visibility. i've spent many thousands on this car before it reach 50k miles.

About a year after we bought our camry, we noticed that the dash panel was starting to get sticky. we tried wiping it down but it did not work and has continually gotten worse. it also creates a tremendous glare that makes it very hard to see out of the windshield. it is definitely a safety hazard for drivers as well as a ugly and nasty eyesore. *tr

I own a toyota camry 2008, and within the last 3-4 months i have noticed my dashboard is gooey and sticky i cant seem to clean it or get rid of the stickiness. i have called the toyota help center and they refused to help me or pay for any repairs. i explained to them how bad the damage is for only toyota to deny any responsibility. i have went to the toyota dealership in carson, california to get an estimate of $2,480.75 for repairs. i would think toyota would make a recall and get this dashboard situation fixed. now my dashboard is causing a glare on my drivers side to only make the situation worse while im driving on the road. the glare is sufficient to give me a blind spot. i need any help to get this fixed before an accident takes place due to toyota being irresponsible. *tr

I was driving in a residential area and i was talk with my friend and i took my eyes off the road and before i knew it, it was too late and i went straight up the curb through the front lawn an crashed into the pillar of the patio and the garage. the air bags did not deploy i hit the steering wheel with my upper chest an chin and mouth then someone asked me if i was ok an said they called 911 and they helped me get out of the car an asked if i was hurt and that my air bags didn't deploy. the cops and ambulance arrived and i was immediately checked out. i told them i was ok, but my chest hurt a little and my jaw. they said i was lucky it wasn't, especially with the air bags not deploying . updated 09-03-14 *bf

In summer of 2013, power steering pump failed on 2008 toyota camry. car was very difficult to steer, turn and park but had to be driven, though unsafe to drive, for 3 days while pump was ordered and replaced. in the week before the power steering pump failed, the engine was found to be burning oil and had to be rebuilt. during this same month (august, 2013), the gas cover could not be opened to refill the gas tank while out of town, requiring a temporary cable fix by an out-of-town dealer. in the summer of 2014, the anti-lock brake system (abs) actuator failed, also causing loss of speedometer, temperature and tachometer functions. abs actuator part was ordered and replaced. then a week later, the brake booster failed (check engine light on multiple times), leaking when brake was depressed. these are just the major safety failures of this 2008 toyota camry, which has had other problems, purchased new in 2007 and maintained by the same dealer. this car is not safe or reliable to drive.

I was driving home on route 287 near the route 23 south exit. i began to change lanes to use the exit. as i started to move into that lane, the car in front of me hit a piece of blown tire from a truck. i did not see this and i hit it. the tire ripped off the right rear of my back bumper panel. luckily the person inback of me missed the tire. it was not until i got home that i found the damage to the car. i was lucky that i did not have an accident or lose contrrol of my car. i am very angry becaue if i report this to my insurance, it will increase my rates and i will get a surcharge. t i am respectfully asking the department of highway safety to aid in the repairs to my car. it is the dept responsibility to clear the areas on a regular basis. this is a very dangerous area of increased trucking and should be top priority.

The dashboard of my camry se began to crystalize and became sticky to the touch. it is now so sticky that the least touch and nick pulls the vinyl right off. it is so shiny that it gives off a reflection while driving. it is very distracting when driving as it seems that something is in your eyes. the glare makes for a dangerous situation because your judgment is affected. this is a safety hazard and should be recalled by the dealer. i have several others with camrys having the same problem.

May/2014 was my last oil change before my next scheduled oil change august/2014. my oil pressure indicator did signal that there was low oil pressure.i had driven my car earlier that morning there was no indication that something bad was going on. later that afternoon, i was going to work and tried to leave and the car made a sluggish noise like it didn't want to crank up. i thought it was bad gas at first, then i heard a rattling sound from the hood.upon looking at the oil gauge, my car was severely depleted of oil. even after putting oil in the car, engine damage had already been done, leaving me without a vehicle. my mechanic advised me that the engine was badly damaged. and that i could either purchase another used engine or a new engine. both have been quoted to be in excess of $4500 and up. i have researched the internet and have found that the 2008 camry is known to have this sort of oil consumption problem. i just purchased this car a year ago june 2013. and i still owe a balance. this is my sixth toyota vehicle purchase and have not had a problem with neither cars until now. toyota has a reputation for good quality cars that last a while. i wouldn't want this incident to deter me from purchasing another toyota vehicle in the future. *tr

It is extremely difficult to understand why toyota has not been advised and demanded to recall toyota camry year models 2008 when there are so many issues with regard to the brake actuator assembly failing in these vehicles. after reading an extended volume of complaints on many sites and blogs with regard to the failing of these assemblies, i now see that nhtsa has demanded toyota and lexus recall 2013 and 2014 year models because of this same defective issue. why is toyota not being demanded to recall all year models that have these defective brake actuator assemblies???? it is incomprehensible to me that a recall can be made or demanded for a current year model however all of us who own 2008 toyota vehicles (especially and no explainable reason, camry's) have the exact same problem with no concern. will it take a death or mutilation to further nhtsa to mandate that toyota to recall a totally defective brake system part. toyota demands approximately $4,000 to replace the brake actuator assembly in these 2008 toyota camry's. that is robbery without a weapon. why will current year 2013 and 2014 toyota and lexus owners get their cars repaired "gratis". i would love to hear an explanation of why 2013 and 2014 toyota and lexus owners will receive a "complimentary" recall of the brake actuator defect while we all drive a 2008 camry with squeaking, jerking, slams to a stop when starting in reverse and short of it sounding like it will break at any moment with all the brake warning lights beaming (and cannot get the car inspected for legal road use because of the brake issue). please please value the 2008 camry owners. bottom line is that this defect is not created by the car owner. it is a defective part that toyota placed within these 2008 camry models and they will not remedy the situation. please help. thank you for your time and consideration. *tr

I'm reporting on my 08 toyota camry. the dashboard has a shine to it and is sticky. it has been getting worst over the past 2 years. it has gotten to the point where i can't even wipe the dashboard off to clean it. i have to be extremely careful around the dashboard or bits and pieces of the vinyl will come off exposing the foam layer underneath. this has already happened by my driver side ac vent while cleaning the dash over a year ago. the shine of the dashboard causes a glare on the windshield from the sun and oncoming cars at night. i contacted toyota's customer service and also my local toyota dealership both which refused to admit that it was a manufacturing defect and would not replace or discount any repairs. hopefully this will be fixed and anyone else who is experiencing these problem and myself can have piece of mind of our safety and the safety of our passengers not to mention our investment. *tr

Discovered engine is consuming excessive oil, causing oil pressure light to flash on momentarily during a sudden quick stop. engine has been maintained within prescribed intervals for oil changes using approved optional 0w20 oil. now it appears to be consuming over 1 quart per 1500 miles. haven't taken this problem to a dealer yet, but from what i'm reading in other complaints, toyota has steadfastly refused to take responsibility for this issue. unlike others, i have toyota's full bumper-to-bumper warranty, good for 7 years or 10800 miles. i'm not sure even that would move toyota, since they could simply stall until the vehicle purchased 6 years ago is out of warranty. the engine probably won't die completely until after then, as long as i keep the oil level where it should be. however, i shouldn't need to check the oil so often, when the service interval is supposed to be 5000 miles, there are no leaks, and i'm using amsoil, a premium synthetic oil. *tr

I own a toyota camry 2008 le (4 cyl. ). i had taken my car in for servicing several times (normal oil changes), the dealer noticed that the dashboard was getting shiny, disintegrating and falling apart. they took photos of it and told me they would replace it when toyota granted them permission to do so. on june 19, 2014, i was called by a female from the dealer and told that they would replace the part ( allegedly the part costs $2200.00, and they would bear the costs of the part), but since i was not the original owner, but second owner, i would have to pay labor costs of $525.00. obviously, i do not want to part with $525.00 for a faulty, cheap, badly engineered part which has safety issues and or design flaws, and replace it with another one of the same kind. if replacing the dashboard is a safety issue, it should not matter if you are the original owner or not. i thought that the standard to be used is whether the car is safe or not. apparently toyota has forgotten about making cars safe. *tr

I bought my 2008 toyota camry in september 2012 and shortly after the dashboard started melting. it is now very sticky and continues to melt. because of the melting, the windshield produces a glare and makes driving very difficult during the day. i cannot drive unless i am wearing polarized sunglasses, which helps minimize the glare. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle because of the constant glare on the windshield from the reflection of the melting dashboard. i am especially nervous when i have to drive my 10 month old niece around! nothing will clean the dashboard and it continues to melt becoming stickier which in turns causes every little particle of lint, dust, grime, etc to stick to the dashboard. i even use a sunshade daily to help keep my car cooler and i also park in the garage at home, but the dash still melts and is sticky. absolutely disgusted with toyota's quality! *js

My dashboard is melting. i am not sure exactly when it started but i noticed a very bad glare on my windshield a couple of years after we purchased the vehicle. the glare kept getting worse and was making it very hard to see out of the windshield. in 2012 we realized that the dashboard was disintegrating. if you touch the dashboard your hands will stick to it and the black sticky substance will stay on your hands until you wash with soap and water. i thought i was the only one with this problem until today when i saw a news article about other people having the same issues. not only am i concerned about the lack of visibility due to the glare, i am also concerned about the possibility of toxic fumes from the melting dashboard inside my vehicle. we have spoken to multiple vehicle mechanics and they all say the dashboard needs to be replaced. at this point we have purchased a dashboard cover to help with the glare but i feel the dashboard is a defected product and toyota should replace it at no cost to me. *js

The driver's side sun visor dropped down, completely blocking my vision and no longer stays in place making it a permanent safety hazard to the point where the car in no longer drivable. checking the internet, i found out that this is a widespread problem. however, the dealer tells me that there is no safety recall for this problem. *tr

The abs light on my dash started appearing intermittently in october; the mechanic said the codes were inconsistent and must be diagnosed by dealer. dealer evaluated in february; they first suggested it was my abs ecu going bad ($2400); upon prodding, they said just my rear tire sensor must be replaced ($600). the inconsistent answer and cost has deterred my from replacing either. internet search indicated many people have similar problem and after many misdiagnosis, abs ecu appears to be culprit. last week, abs and brake light lit on dash; tachometer, temp gauge and speedometer went to zero. car drove and braked ok. gauges fluctuated from normal readings (average temp, tach 3000rpm, mid-level temp) to all values at zero, even when i am driving 65mph according to gps reading. readings would recover and fail continuously, and in other cases worked properly for 30 miles. in some cases, ac stopped blowing cold. further internet searches suggest ac, dash lights, abs all point to bosch abs ecu. i found three nhtsa complaints that look same/similar for camry: 10587648, 10555094, 10521931. reports for abs on other cars sound similar (possibly bosch ecu?). the fault codes pointed to multiple tire sensors failing at one time; other failure codes were also reported. the faults did not point to the ecu. while abs is not necessary for driving, it is desirable. however, it is a safety issue and a financial burden to have wrong or inconclusive codes that either lead to fixing the wrong thing (tire sensor vs ecu) or preventing safety information from being properly reported (0 mph, engine temp 0, brake light on, etc). i have not decided to replace ecu yet, as i am still trying to confirm there is no other possible problem that will cost even more than $2400. *tr

The warning lights went on and immediate the vehicle shut down while i was traveling a city street in san francisco, california (dewey blvd). fortunately the street is fairly level and i wasn't on a hill. i loss power to the brake, steering and everything as everything was dead. i was able to coast to a curb putting all my effort to stop the car. i tried starting and moved about 10 feet before everything went dead again. i did not move it further i called for a tow (aaa) and the initial diagnosis was that the alternator was dead. the car was towed to a mechanic who also said that this alternator was dead and it was replaced. i told him where it happened and he said i was lucky that i wasn't on the freeway. *tr

When pulling into a gravel parking space at less than 5mph. car suddenly accelerated full throttle, jumped a concrete parking stop, became partially airborne on the right side , coming down in a depression after 25 ft. brake was fully depressed through event. visual inspection and manual check after incident showed nothing impeding either gas pedal or brake. mats firmly attached. we have photos of the acceleration tracks and the ditch where it landed. damage to fascia, bumper, air dam. alignment, possible tire damage. est. $800 - $1200. our complaint is car sat at dealer for 2 months deemed unsafe to drive. the outcome was that nothing was recorded on the black box and vehicle passed inspections on a lift. therefore even though this was an unintended acceleration issue toyota will do nothing. recommendation from both consumer reports and edmunds is a brake override should be installed. when this was mentioned they said no the car doesn't need it. one of our complaints is toyota motor sales u.s.a. took 2 months to resolve this. they didn't return phone calls or notify the dealer of any results. dealer stated toyota wouldn't let them work on the car and it was listed unsafe to drive. during this 2 months we had to rent a car out of pocket (insurance paid 2 weeks). over $1000. both my wife and i feel very lucky this incident didn't happen on a busy highway or next to a solid wall. if it had there was a good chance we could have been injured and the damage much worse. dealing with both the dealer and toyota u.s.a. was frustrating and pointless. we have picked up the car and are considering trading it in but are shocked to find in 2 years it has deprecated by $8000! this has been a complete nightmare and a monetary loss as well. to at least get the brake override would be some satisfaction. On my way home from work, at approximately 4:00 pm, while driving at approximately 35 mph, i noticed my dashboard panel lights fluttering, and that the panel instruments were moving up and down (specifically my tachometer and temperature gauge). my speedometer was not registering any speed, even though i was doing about 35 mph, and the brake and abs lights were on and bright red. i took the car to the dealer next day, and i was told that the abs actuator was defective and it would cost me $2492.00, plus labor to replace the abs actuator. i was also told that regular braking would work, but the abs would not. i like my toyota camry 2008. my prior 1996 camry is still running well, and i also liked it. that's why i bought the 2008 model. what i don't like a is a car with under performing, unsafe, faulty engineered or substandard parts, which may lead to accidents, loss of life and customer frustration. *tr

Slowly entered rite aid parking lot at 5-10 mph. turned right into a parking spot. lightly tapped the brake and the accelerator went faster than if you were driving on the highway. car jumped the concrete bumper onto the walkway. had to cut the wheel all the way to the right to avoid hitting the brick wall of the store and drove into the parking lot guard rail. car went into a high speed skid and when it came out of the skid was still accelerating at a very high speed and had to turn the ignition off for it to stop. there were skid marks and smoke. air bag did not go off. waiting to hear from toyota with a date to have the car inspected. would like for toyota to buy back my car which we have spent top dollar having toyota maintain it for the last five years, which included the 100,000 mile service just a week or two before the accident. do not feel safe driving this car again. please advise. *tr

November of 2013, it was brought to my attention by a certified mechanic during a routine oil change that my vehicle was burning oil. this would lead to a serious damage to the engine which could lead to fatal complications such as a fire. i am officially filing a complaint against toyota regarding this issue. concerned, i performed an official oil change at a local toyota branch. approximately 800 miles since that oil change, nearly all of the oil had burned off. i spoke with a toyota customer service representative, and i was told that there is no 'customer care center' that deals with this issue. it is vital to raise attention to this issue as it is a severely dangerous problem not only for the driver but for the public. it is unacceptable for a vehicle, merely five years since production, which has been heavily branded as reliable to have such a poor performance. given the responses i have been receiving from toyota customer service, it is even more jarring that such a reputable company as toyota would take such matters so lightly. *tr

My husband was putting on the passenger side seat belt and it was really loose and failed to retract. we were in the parking lot of wal mart and he had to go without wearing a seat belt due to its failure to work properly. *tr

The drivers side visor will not stay up. very dangerous. my husband is taller and it affects his range ov vision and plus it is annoying. looked online and see that there have been problems with the visors. i am taking it to a dealer to see if its covered under my warranty, if not, i will contact toyota directly to correct this very dangerous situation.

When braking, i noticed the engine oil light came on. i checked the oil level and it was extremely low. i called toyota dealership where we had the oil change done and they recommended a oil consumption test. when they tested my vehicle, they noticed that the oil was leaking into the engine because of the defective piston rings. the dealership told me i needed a engine replacement which would cost $6000. since i bought this car brand new and only had this car for 5 years-this was a big shock. i bought toyota because of its reputation and i had always kept up with all my maintenance at the dealership. this is a big disappointment and i feel toyota should compensate for this defect. please make a recall available for this issue since there are numerous ones experiencing the same problem. *tr

Alot of people have complain about this issue but it doesn't seem like anything is done to correct the issue. a year ago, the visor on the driver side droop alittle and my husband tried to fix it but it broke and was hanging. we end up purchasing a new visor for about $100 and i don't want to use it because of the risk of having to pay another $100 to fix it. just recently, the visor on the passenger side broke and now it is hanging. it is dangerous for me because i'm on the highway all the time and the visor become a safety hazard because it blocks my view from seeing other vehicle merging in or switching lane. there should be a recall on fixing this issue as it is dangerous. *tr

A spider got into the a/c drainage tube causing water to drip inside of the car. this caused the airbag light to go on in the car. prior to bringing it to the dealer i cleaned out the car and noticed the floor was soaking wet under all of the mats. the dealer told me i could not drive the vehicle with the airbag light on that it is dangerous. i was informed that it would not be covered by the platinum warranty i took out when i purchased the car. i had to pay for the repairs even though it's a hazard. today i found out that there was a recall on camrys, avalons and others but for the 2012 and 13 models. i called toyota headquarters and they told me they would not reimburse me because my car was not included in the recall even though it's the exact same issue. i'm lucky the airbag did not deploy on it's own and cause damage to me. please help!! thank you. *tr

My dash on my camry is sticky and shiny. when the sun hits my dash it causes a glare on my windshield. there is documentation online about some camry's having issues with this. this is a defect with the car and toyota refuses to replace the dash for free. i am told the price to replace the dash is $1,586 and that the dealership will give a 10% discount. the toyota corporate office i contacted stated they would offer assistance to fix the dash and my portion would be around $700-$750. i feel like this should be replaced free of charge as this is not normal wear and tear and is obviously a defect from the manufacturer. *tr

My son and a friend were driving in a neighborhood when a driver failed to stop at her intersection. he t-boned her vehicle and the toyota clipped her ford explorer making her car airborned. her vehicle fishtailed rear end of vehicle into a tree with our toyota attached to front end. our entire front end is smashed in and both airbags failed to deployed. *tr

Due to the deterioration of the dashboard, where it is basically melting and very shiny and sticky, when driving in the direction of the sun, the suns rays reflecting off of the dash basically are a blinding factor on visibility of the driver. it is very difficult to see clearly through the windshield. i contacted toyota care center and explained the issue with the dash deterioration to them. their rep acknowledged they recognized other owners had reported an issue with the dash but unless the car was under original warranty, they can not do anything to rectify the situation. the rep also noted toyota determined the cause to be "environmental" and primarily occurring in florida, where i live. in researching other owners complaints on-line, this issue is clearly systemic. and, there are other complaints of this condition effecting visibility. has the nhtsa investigated the potential safety concern to the public due to toyota's systemic defect in 2008 and 2007 camry's they have sold? i can provide photos upon request. *tr

I have a 2008 toyota camry with a certified warranty. there is a clicking sound in the steering wheel when turning. i took it to toyota and they said that it needed a grease kit for the steering shaft assembly and this would not be covered under my extended warranty. if they replaced the steering shaft, it would be covered. they also stated this could happen again and i may have to do a grease service again down the road. i took it to my local mechanic and asked them what they thought and they found that the 2007 had issues with the steering shaft assembly and the remedy was to replace the steering shaft with an updated part. they recommended replacement as it would occur again. i communicated with toyota corporate and the local toyota and their position was firm that they should not have to replace the steering shaft under warranty terms. they also stated that this should not cause any issues if i did not do the grease kit so i did not have them provide the service. long story short, it sounds like my 2008 (which was manufactured in 2007) was assembled with the wrong steering shaft part but they have created a grease kit to avoid having to replace this under warranty. is there any additional action i can take to have toyota provide the appropriate remedy to this such as replace it with the more updated steering shaft? i appreciate your help and look forward to your response. have a great day! *tr

After 95,000 miles of usage the sun visor has decided to come apart and i'm no longer able to use it to block the sun or store it in a safe manner. every passing day it seems the visor gets lower and lower until i can no longer see the road correctly. i almost have to drive holding the sun visor up. it doesn't feel safe but i don't yet have the funds to replace it. and even if i did replace it, it's only a matter of time before it happens again from what i've been reading. *jb

On or around this date my driver side visor began to droop. it would slowly drop & over the course of a few months completely dropped, you couldn't put it back into its upright position, or any position & it obscured my visibility. i took it to my dealer & they replaced it at no charge because it was still under factory warranty. the guy in the service department said that the visors were breaking and that it was known. they wouldn't replace my passenger one (even though they knew it would break) because it was not broken. i tried to tell him that being the driver's side that was dangerous because i couldn't see with it just hanging there. well, low and behold, after my warranty ran out my passenger one broke. i just took it down, my husband tried to fix it but couldn't. i can't afford to replace it. now the driver's side one that i initially replaced is breaking again!!! same problem. i can not and will not dish out almost $200 freaking dollars every time one of these breaks!!! this needs to be recalled and fixed!! especially for the driver's side because that is dangerous!!! you cannot see out of the windshield when that is just hanging in the way. if you take it down then the sun is in your eyes, and that is dangerous. why is it that people cannot see that this problem makes visibility very bad or you have none at all when this happens?? *jb

My sun visors on both sides have messed up and now have both been replaced. my cd player also started messing up earlier this year. it says there's a cd in, but there's not. you can't load a cd or eject it. the service center at the toyota dealership told me they don't see anything jammed in there and that i would be better off replacing it with an aftermarket stereo system b/c it would be cheaper and they would have to send my car off to have it fixed. hopefully, i'm not the only one experiencing this problem and a recall will be issued! *tr

Passenger sun visor fell from it's folded position from ceiling. 2 or 3 days later the visor completely falls off the support arm altogether. not even in use during either incident. no passenger even in the seat using the visor. 1-2 weeks later the same thing occurs with the driver's visor. this is a known issue with all 2007-2008 camry's. toyota has extended the warranty for the sun visors for all camry's built in the u.s.a., but has elected not to offer this extended warranty to it's owners of the japanese built models (such as mine). the visors are only available through toyota for replacement and they ask $230 per visor plus labor for install (over $500 when all is said and done). upon calling toyota customer service to ask why they aren't offering the extended warranty for japanese built models that are having the exact same issue as their american-built counterparts they had no answers for me. they did offer to extend me a one-time credit for $250 in repairs to offset the cost of their inferior product and known problem. this doesn't even cover 50% of the cost of parts and labor to have both of the visors repaired. *tr

I am an owner of a 2008 toyota camry se. the dashboard on my vehicle started melting, became sticky/shiny and has an awful glare on the windshield. this started after the warranty had expired on the vehicle and my extended warranty purchased does not cover trim for the vehicle. i brought the vehicle into toyota for routine service for scheduled maintenance and inquired about the dashboard. i was told by the service manager that this is a recurring problem for these vehicles and they have already changed multiple dashboards. i was told this was an expensive problem to resolve (1100 for part and 660 for labor), and to call toyota customer service to file a complaint to see if they would help resolve this issue. after a review by toyota they said they would pay for the part but i would be responsible for the labor. i was told that due to this not being a recall they are not required to offer anything by law. i am concerned because it is creating a shiny "reflecting" effect on the windshield that impairs visibility while driving. this is a recurring problem and needs to be addressed given that it is a hazard to the general public. due to this i am biting the bullet and will pay to have this repaired. although, what worries me are the drivers having this problem and unable to afford the repairs due to toyota not honoring their product. please consider investigating this matter further. *tr

When you drive car for more than 20 - 30 minutes the shift solenoid lock gets extremely hot; the higher the speed the hotter it gets. i mentioned it at the toyota dealership when i brought my car in. the mechanic said it didn't get hot for him but he didn't drive it over 45 mph and only for 10 - 15 minutes; but then he offered up the part name, i.e., shift solenoid lock. he told me to follow all the recalls and that i could file a complaint. *tr

When i first used air conditioning on vehicle, noticed rough idling. it was so bad the car would sometimes shudder and shake. i called local dealer and they told me it was normal for the car to behave this way when air conditioner was running at idle. the car is now 5 1/2 years old with 39,000 miles on it and still does the same thing. i had it in to dealer within the last year with another recall and i talked to service advisor about it. he said he also had a 2008 camry and it did the same thing. it was the way the engine was set up when manufactured and could not be changed. i have owned two other camrys and still have a 99 model with 125,000 miles on it and neither had that kind of problem. i find it difficult to believe that the car or any car would have been designed to idle the way this car does. this seems to me to be a safety issue since if you are in heavy traffic and you are stopping and starting and the weather is hot and you have your air conditioning running and the car is shuddering and shaking and you are trying to get out of the way of traffic and you are afraid the car is not going to accelerate the way it should. *tr

A noise is coming from the sunroof that sounds like metal against metal when backing out of the drive way or going around a corner or over a bump. i have owned 3 toyotas and i have never been so frustrated as i am with owning this toyota 2008 camry. from the beginning the car has had problems with the brakes that cause the steering wheel to shake, the sunvisors falling, the rear wheel bearing to be replaced and now the sunroof. i'm taking time to write this because i want owners of toyota to be aware of how poorly toyota is handling these problem. toyota has stalled taking action so that when the warranty runs out than is the owners responsibility to pay for the repair. shame on toyota. instead of spending so much time in learning how to avoid doing the right thing they should concentrate on doing the responsible thing. toyota you lost a loyal customer. sincerely *tr

The abs light on my 2008 toyota camry came on monday, june 24th. the ac started blowing warm air, and the rpm and temperature gauges started fluttering. stadium toyota in tampa, fl had me bring it in and diagnosed that the abs actuator had gone out. this backfeeds electricity into the entire vehicle. i did some research online and have found this is a fairly common problem on toyotas. i have to pay $2300 for the repair, which is for a computer of which i had nothing to do with it malfunctioning. the abs is obviously one of the most important features, and i can't imagine everyone can afford it. is toyota setting up the roads to be filled with vehicles without abs? *tr

I took my 2008 toyota camry to wal-mart just to have tire rotated, on 7-2-2013 i was told the tires on the rear were really bad rounded off with bumps on tires, i was told that the rear suspension was bad, and that had caused the belts to brake inside my tires. i had taken my car to scott toyota in jasper al 1 year before this and had it alignment. i still have my paperwork. i have notice something wrong with the way it handled for a long time. also the sunroof has leaked like a waterfall ever since i bought it. but toyota says it's not there problem. it has cost me 4 knew tires and now a full alignment and a rear suspension to be done at a toyota place. i just hope this car does not cause me to have a accident from the messed up suspension ! *tr

I was unable to insert the driver's seat belt into the latch. repeated attempts failed. finally, i was able to latch the belt by first depressing the red latch release button and then inserting the seat belt. since that time the seat belt will no longer insert unless the red release button is pressed and held during insertion. the vehicle was purchased in november of 2007 and the warranty has expired. *tr

I bought my 08 camry in 2010 as a used but certified toyota. i noticed right away that the car seemed out of alignment. i mentioned before we closed the deal and they told me not to worry they would re-align the vehicle at my convenience. long story short, the dealer stood behind their word and re-aligned the vehicle several times. nothing has fixed the problem! the car constantly pulls, usually to the left but even sometimes to the right. it's like the steering has a mind of its own. the dealer has chalked it up to "sensitive steering". i've put new tires and new brakes all the way around the vehicle and it has made no difference. if i'd known this steering problem was going to persist i would have never bought the vehicle. *tr

My visor on the driver side was wobbling around and would get in my way of driving numerous times. one day the entire visor finally just fell off and within two weeks my passenger side visor did the same thing. this should be a recall, it impairs your driving when the visor starts malfunctioning and if the sun is out and there is now now visor, the glare could prevent a driver from seeing someone or another vehicle. toyota needs to step up and cover this issue. *tr

2008 toyota camry, purchased new in december 2007. first oil change done at 2500 miles, at which time switch was made to mobil 1 5-20w synthetic. oil changes done since then at approx every 5500-6500 miles. noticed early july 2012 when doing routine oil check it was almost a quart low. this was the first time ever noticing any oil consumption between oil changes. no oil noted around exhaust pipe, no oil leaks apparent in engine or on garage floor. late july, after oil change at 76,220 mi, until the next oil change approx 1.5 qts of oil were added. at that next oil change late nov 2012 (81,788mi) it was still almost a quart low. oil consumption does not seem to occur at all until after first 2500 mi are driven on new oil. also seems to have slowed some during the winter months: only added 1 qt from late nov until recently changed on 3/23/13 at 87,500 mi. at this time it was again almost a quart low at oil change. yesterday, with a little less than 3000 mi on the car since the last oil change (on 3/23/13, 87,500 mi) i added half a quart of oil. we have 2 other, but older, different model toyotas and neither uses oil. *tr

Prior to july 17, 2010, the driver's side visor, had loosen up/broke and would not stay in place. this was a hazard and i had to have it replaced. the passenger's side visor began making noise similar to the driver's side when it first started, then the noise was louder. we received a "warranty enhance notice" where toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. was informing us about extending the warranty of the visors for a period of 7 years. they also stated that they would reimbursed the owners that had them replaced and we needed to submit a copy of the repair order, proof of payment, and proof of ownership. we submitted the repair order from the toyota dealer that replaced the driver's side visor which is also proof that the dealer was paid for, and a copy of the registration; no dealer let's you leave without paying or make invoices as a favor for consumers; plus the fact that they are representatives of the manufacturer. well, to our surprise they wanted a receipt on how this bill was paid. this is a tactic of the manufacturer or the consumer service department to avoid or delay the reimbursement process and to discourage consumers from pursuing their claims. the dealer replaced the other visor at no charge. the driver's side visor is begining to make the same noise as the previous one, not even two years from the time it was replaced. *tr

Structural noise coming from l and r front sunroof area. there is a tsb about it toyota has put out, and it is very common. toyota thinks this should be only covered under the 3 year / 36000 mile warranty but it is a structural issue and not a sunroof issue. the welds were not done properly and it makes a creaking / knocking noise. i wonder if my vehicle is safe in a crash?? *tr

Driver side sun visor support failed while driving. went to tilt it down and broke loose to a point where it just hangs straight down and swings freely and completely blocking my vision. had to hold it with one hand until i was safely off the roadway. there is no way it will support itself, so i had to tape or wire it up which makes it useless blocking sun (it's purpose.) *tr

My visor on the drivers side will not stay in the up position or down against towards the windshield blocking the sun. it seems to be defective. i called toyota to see how much it cost to replace the part. i was advised $148.00 for the part. however the previous owner had also had this visor replaced prior to me purchasing the vehicle. this seems to be a big deal with alot of the toyota visors, but yet there is no recall on this item. i would like to have this issue fixed and not at my expense as this is a safety concern. if you put the visor in the up position against the top of the car, it will continue to fall down in front of my view. if you push it forward towards the window it again will come back towards me. if i were to get into an accident, it is right at my head level and could cause severe injury. *tr

The sun visor had been flopping down a bit for the last couple of few weeks, then it just quit gripping the shaft that keeps it in the "non-use' position -i.e. visor horizontal parallel to roof - so that it was hanging down perpendicular to the roof plane, blocking vision out the front of the car. it has not stayed up since. research online has proven to me that this is a widespread problem with these model year (and 2007 model year) camrys and they do represent a driving hazard, particularly if and when they flop down unexpectedly while in heavy, urban traffic and the like. *js

At 60,000 i noticed my engine running low/ burning oil. i since had 2 oil changes, now at 66,600 miles, 2,400 since the last service, my dipstick is halfway between "min" and "max" it was at "max" after the last oil change. i have been in communication with bernardi toyota in framingham ma who has been helpful however i am very concerned regarding my car starting to burn oil at a low mileage. i also plan to file a complaint with toyota directly.

Both (driver and passenger side) sun visors are defective via disconnect and/or inability to move from windshield view (occurring only 3 years after purchase of vehicle new). also, vehicles electrical plug outlets also do not work, and have not worked since after 3 years of vehicle purchased new. searching online, it appears that both items are extremely common for 2007-2008 toyota camry owners, with at least thousands pleading for a recall as the fixes are extremely expensive, for an item that does not typically break with normal wear and tear, and is obviously not derived from wear and tear. *tr

My mechanic noticed that all 4 struts were leaking when i had my tires rotated. i noticed that my car was very unstable on the road and swaying all over the place. took the car to my toyota dealer. they said that the struts were leaking, but according to toyota extra care, some leakage is normal and the struts were not leaking enough to have them replaced under the warranty. the car continued to get worse and i took it back to a toyota dealer on 2/14/12. they told me all 4 struts were leaking past the normal amount and should be replaced. they also said the front and real links and bushings should be replaced because the car is all over the road and there is noise from these components. they contacted toyota extra care who said they needed to send an adjuster out to look at the vehicle. the adjuster said that only 2 struts were leaking enough to be replaced and no other parts needed replacing. he also said he didn't hear the noise. amazing! extra care has refused to honor the warranty on the other parts because they say they have not failed. the dealer claims they should all be replaced. i think it is absurd that toyota extra care is standing on a technicality on how much the struts are leaking and will not cover all 4. they are leaving me with an unsafe vehicle. the certified mechanics that have looked at my car all say that once the strut is leaking it should be replaced no question about it. i have read that this is a problem with many toyota camrys from this year. i paid for the extended warranty and toyota should do the right thing. not wait until more parts fail or i have an accident because the suspension is compromised. i will never purchase another toyota because of this. this is a safety issue that should be taken care of. *tr

Camry 2008 hybrid: visor slowly dropped down until finally it will not stay up. it obscures visibility and i had to take it down to drive. now the sun obscures visibility ! when is toyota going to do something about this hazard ? i can see by the other entries that this is a common problem. the dealership wants $260 just for the part, then labor on top of that. ridiculous. before this happened, the floor was wet. the dealership said it was the air conditioner tubes that were blocked. the floor was wet again after the repair. they said it the cause that time was the sun roof tubes being blocked and i would have to pay for that since it was after the warranty. so i did. had to. now there is mold under my carpeting. the dealership now wants $1000 to replace the carpet. there were multiple problems with their communication and they were not truthful. i didn't get a customer survey. how convenient for them. this is my first and last toyota. going back to ford. *tr

The trunk has a defective design, upon opening the trunk with the remote and then lifting the trunk lid, the trunk lid does not fully open. this resulted in my head hitting the trunk lid a causing a cut to my head and a mild concussion. i believe that the springs in the trunk do not have enough force to open the trunk fully. *tr

4 tires worn out about 28000 miles. i had to replace them this is because of suspension system problem that wears out the tires very fast. having wheel alignment does not solve the problem. i have aligned the wheels and still have wearing problem with new tires. i believe that toyota should fix this problem and compensate the loss. *tr

The sun visor on the driver side just flopped down. it startled me and i almost got into an accident. the sun visor is unable to stay up by itself, and it remains floppy and hangs straight down. i am short, and i have my seat all the ways forward and in the highest position; so the floppy visor is a visual obstruction to driving. the only way to keep the visor up is to tie it and wrap the tie around the ceiling hand holder on the driver's side. so, if i'm driving into the sun, i have to untie it; but because it hangs straight down, it blocks my total vision. the problem is compounded because i live in florida and i am constantly using my sun visor year round. *tr

I have a 2008 camry that has steering issues. the steering wheel is loose and hard to control with severe vibration at speeds of 35mph and up. i have made several trips to the toyota dealer and told "nothing is wrong" with the car. i have had new brakes and rotors recently as well as new tires. i can not get help from anyone with the above issue. i do not feel safe driving this car let alone putting my kids in it, however i do not have a choice. toyota needs to do the right thing and issue a recall on the 2008 camrys. *tr

The sunvisors are very cheaply made. they use a metal clip that swivels around a road and a plastic casing around the metal clip. the metal clip puts way too much pressure for the plastic to withstand, resulting in failure. numerous people have complained of their sunvisors breaking and suddenly hanging in their face, blocking their vision. when this happens, the sunvisors must be forcefully pulled out of their socket to allow unobstructed driving. both of my sunvisors failed in the same manner within a couple of months of one another. the car was 2.5 years old. the bumper-to-bumper warranty had just expired -- due to mileage, as we drove a lot of highway miles. there's no justification for these visors to fail this early. this is poor engineering, poor material selection, or whatever you want to call it. it is unacceptable. toyota should be forced to recall these sunvisors. local toyota dealers are unwilling to help. this is a potentially dangerous situation. *tr
