Horn blows door locks light blinks windshield wipers turns on also washers radio interior lights until power is disconeted

My son was driving and all of a sudden the horn started blowing, the wipers were wiping and the hazard lights were all going. he pulled over, turned off the car an it still didn\'t stop. It eventually did stop on its own after a few minutes. He took it to the dealer the next. They told him no error codes came up , charged him $95 and sent him on his way. a quick look on the internet and I see this is a common problem and they just blew it off. We will take it to our local service station tomorrow (after driving 6 hours round trip today to get it from him at school). The car only needs to last less than a year. He will buy a new car once he graduates. We really don\'t want to pour a ton of money into it now.

My truck has been having electrical issues that is going to cost me a lot of money to fix something I have no control of.

Randomly while driving or parked, the horn starts honking, wipers start going, washer fluid starts spraying, doors will lock and unlock and airbag warning light comes on and off. We have are warranty but it does not cover these problems. When this happens it doesn\'t throw any codes. We cannot get it fixed because of the cost.

for about a month now, i have been having issues with lights on my pannel turning on and off, winshield wipers turning on on their own, also a few years back i had my vehicle turn off twice, ones while backing from my driveway and another ocasion while driving on the street, on my way to the dealership, also a few times the car accelerated on its own, almost hitting car on front of me, and another time, while on red light, but the scariest case was on july 13th 2016, at night on the freeway, while on the freeway with my kids, my car just shut down on its own, thank God.not to much traffic and i was on the far right lane, next day immediately did some research, and found out my car was NOT the only having these issues, i read about the TIPM is the malfunctioning, did call corporate but after telling them what had happened all they could say was sorry, and that my car is not under warranty, and suggested i take it to get diagnosed,
FYI i had that done when my car turned of twice before, but they did nothing, they said because they could not duplicate the issue, all they care about is to get us consumers to throw away our money for no result

Fuses m25 and m7 blow due to fyse line continuously running even in off position car spontaneously cutts off even while driving

TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) failed. My headlights stopped working on a Monday and only my high beams would work. After about a day my high beams and head lights both stopped working and only my running lights worked. I didn’t realize my lights were not working until a semi flashed their high beams at me twice as it passed by on a 2 lane highway near my home. My car was in the shop from Thursday to the following Tuesday and the only fix was to completely replace the TIPM. This cost me about $613.21 to replace and none of it was covered by the Manufacturer. There have been recalls for this issue on 2007 Nitros and other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep vehicles. When I contacted the dealer they explained to me that because my vehicle was a 2008, the issue would’ve been resolved and there were no open recalls for my year.

I PURCHASED MY CAR IN APRIL 2011. JUNE 2012 I HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY OUT OF NOWHERE. IN 2013 WHILE DRIVING, OUT OF NOWHERE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON, AS DID THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID, DOOR LOCKS GOING HAYWIRE, AND THE HORN WOULD NOT TURN OFF. DAMN NEAR HAD AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE ALARM. NEXT YEAR, JULY 2014, I HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY AGAIN. IN MAY 2015 THE CAR STARTS GOING HAYWIRE AGAIN. DOOR LOCKS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, AND HORN SPONTANEOUSLY GOING OFF. THIS TIME IT BURNT OUT THE BATTERY WITH SMOKE AND ODOR COMING FROM THE BATTERY. WHEN I REPLACED THE BATTERY, I WAS STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE BUT THIS TIME WHEN TURNING THE KEY OFF AND REMOVING IT FROM THE IGNITION, THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. ONLY WAY TO SHUT IT OFF WAS TO DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR. ALSO I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO START EVEN THOUGH IT HAD POWER. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS I DECIDED TO GIVE IT UP AND LOCK THE DOOR WITH THE LOCK BUTTON ON THE DOOR AND IT STARTED THE CAR. YIKES!. SINCE IVE HAD THIS PROBLEM MY HEATER HAD WENT OUT, BRAKE LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT, HEADLIGHT MULFUNCTIONING ETC. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN IN AUG 2015 AND THEN IT WAS DETERMINED THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE TOTAL INTERGRATED POWER MODULE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND AFTER SOME RESEARCH I REALIZE THAT IM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO REALIZE THAT DODGE/CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS THEY HAVE REPLACED THIS PARTS IN OTHER MODEL YEARS, JUST NOT THIS ONE. I AM VERY APPALLED AS TO WHY THIS PARTICULIAR YR WAS NOT CORRECTED. WHAT DOES IT TAKE. THEY NEED TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY AND FIXED THIS ISSUE. SOMEONE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE INJURED FOR THEM TO DO IT. THANK YOU

ALSON FAN/BLOWER FOR HEAT/A/C NOT WORKING AT ALL. MAY BE THE RESISTOR.
RESEARCHED ONLINE AT SEVERAL SITES/FORUMS. TRIED DISCONECTING THE NEGATIVE CABLE FROM BATTERY FOR 10-15 MINS.
NOW CAR WONT START OR NOTHING!!
CHECKED BATTERY IT IS GOOD. PULLED IOD FUSE 30 SECONDS STILL NOTHING.
ONLY THING WORKING IS DOME LIGHTS BY SWITCHES AND THE MIRROR BUTTONS.
WTH!!!

While driving to work about a month ago, the front & back windshields, power locks, & horn begin to go off by itself. I tried cutting the car off but it would not, so I had someone unhook the horn & the alarm system, which helped the situation.
A couple of weeks ago, while sitting in my house watching TV, the headlights came on by themselves. Every time I turned them out, they came back on again, moments later.
Here again, recently it all happened again on the way to work, everything went ballistic; horn, lights, windshields!!

Dvd play will not work. Lights flash on and off, doors unlock by their self, can’t start with key, it keeps turning off.

Faulty TIPM causing lighting issues(Headlights), blowing horns, uncontrollable front and rear wipers and wiper washer spray.

I purchased my pre-owned 2008 Dodge Nitro 2 months ago. A week ago it all went haywire like my car was possessed. It also happened the following week. I have a hard time believing that this was the first time these issues have happened. I think the people I purchased the vehicle from chose not to disclose these problems.

— While using the key fob to lock/unlock the car the horn starts blaring, the wipers (front and rear) start going, washer fluid shooting out, doors locking and unlocking, and the lights blinking.

— Doors will not lock/unlock with the remote. I have to physically lock/unlock each door with the key.

— Rear passenger doors and the rear hatch wont unlock.

— When turning on the engine the horn starts blaring, the wipers (front and rear) start going, washer fluid shooting out, doors locking and unlocking, and the lights blinking for about 5 minutes. When I turned the car off it was still doing the same thing.

— If I turn on/off the windshield wipers the horn starts blaring and lights start flashing

— When pressing the actual door lock the horn starts blaring

Based on the research I did and other 2008 Dodge Nitro owners the diagnosis is apparently a faulty TIPM. It will cost several hundred dollars to replace and they are not even sure if replacing the TIPM will solve the problems. Who can afford to replace a part on their vehicle when there is not any guarantee that this will fix things? Even if I wanted to make the necessary repairs there seems to be a national backorder on this part. How are we to feel safe putting ourselves or others in our vehicles? I am afraid to drive my car for fear of something major happening while driving. My doors wont unlock and I am terrified to have anyone in my car. What would happen if we are in an accident the car catches on fire? I wont be able to get any one out, including myself.

Dodge has recalled the 2010-2012 but has failed to recall the 2008 despite the national backorder for the part needed to fix these vehicles. This tells me there is a bigger problem that they cannot even keep these in stock.

I am really surprised that Dodge/Chrysler has not stood by their products and is putting the owners of these vehicles at risk. What is it going to take to issue a recall on the faulty TIPM on all Dodge/Chrysler vehicles? Why has Dodge/Chrysler not rectified this situation before it becomes a bigger issue like the Ford tire recall, GM ignition recall and the recent airbag recalls?

Dodge tells me I have a bad power control module (I’m assuming they mean the TIPM), took them 3 tries to diagnose it, they kept telling me the car was fine. Find out this is a reoccurring for Dodge/Chrysler but not a recall. Part is on back order for what could be months.

Totally integrated power system

the horn, windshield wipers, and lights wont shut off. the gauge cluster says “no bus”. i have no control over the car whatsoever. the car will not even try to turn over.

Faulty TIPM. I asked dealer about the Carfax that stated the vehicle had been checked 3 times with electrical issues and was told it was ok. I believe they misled me.

Headlights stopped working told I needed a Totally Integrated power module its unavailible no time frame on making of the part. no real answers. I just had a response from my local dealer he tells me from his two stores there are 130 TIPM on back order with no estimated shipping date……From just one dealer what about nation wide!

In September we had to have the TIPM replaced in our 2008 Dodge Nitro. This has gone out again. The windshield wipers just run and I have not turn signals. I also cannot turn off any other lights. There is not 1 available in the country. We are on hold while Chrysler searches to see if they have one. If not, we will be waiting while they make one. This tells me there is a bigger problem that they cannot even keep these in stock. They have recalled the 2010-2012. RECALL the 2008.

tipm system malfunctioning. power seats not working. washer pump not operating. horn going off when car is shut off, with wipers and wiper fluid going non-stop. This car is possessed. What an absolute embarrassment to me and my family!!!

On August 24, 2014, I pulled out of my driveway heading to my local grocery store, I was startled when my headlights flickered three times and then went out. At first I thought that I might have hit the light knob therefore causing the lights to go out or that I never even turned the headlights on but I knew this wasn’t the case. I should add that I was traveling down a dark street when my headlights went out and I basically had to stop dead in my tracks to avoid from running off the road or hitting anyone else. Frantically, I began turning the lights on and off to see if the headlights would come back on but to no avail. I then tried to turn on my fog lights and noticed that they did come on. Using the fog lights I was able to return to my house in one piece.

The next day I woke and went to my local Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer and informed them of what happened. They told me they would be glad to check it out, but at a fee of $90.00 per hour. After an hour and half of checking out my vehicle, the service adviser told me that I had a faulty TIPM module and that it would cost $1050 to replace. He then told me that even if I wanted to replace it immediately, the part was on a national back order so it would be some time before it could be repaired. He told me my best bet was to only use my vehicle during daylight hours……..no duh. He then charged me $160 for the diagnostic fee and told me I would give him a call in the following weeks to see if the part was available. Needless to say, I walked out very annoyed and agitated.

Before leaving he gave me the number to Chrysler Customer Care and told me that I could call and file a complaint. I promptly called the customer care hotline where I was quickly connected with a rep who took my statement and informed that there was no recall for this issue, but should one come up I would be contacted. She did her best to be sympathetic to my situation, but I couldn’t help but feel like she was brushing me off since I didn’t have an extended warranty.

This is my second episode with my Nitro. When I was leaving work and getting ready to put my key in to unlock my door, the horn starting blowing, wipers, front and back, came on including the water spraying out, doors locking and unlocking, gate open and closing, lights going on and off. I then opened the door and started the engine and it continued to do the same thing. When I turned it off it was still doing the same. It was doing this for about 15-20 mins. until I had someone take off the battery cable. I had to get a tow truck, rent a car for 2 days. The shop put my truck on the computer and tested everything. From the computer it was all fine. They put a new battery in and made a new key phoebe. Everything has been fine until not even 2 wks later. I was at a red light with a car in front of me and the horn went off and wipers came on for about 2mins. now I have to take it back. The first time this happened I was driving at 55 mph was almost in a accident and had to pull off the road. Someone said it may be TIPM

I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE A WEEK BEFORE. I WAS FILLING MY GAS TANK AND AT THE END OF THE FILL, I WAS COVERED IN GASOLINE. THE GAS CAME BACK OUT OF THE TANK AND COVERED MY CLOTHES AND LEGS. I WAS MORTIFIED!!!! I HAD AN INJURY ON MY LEG AND GAS GOT INTO MY CUT AND HURT TERRIBLY. I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE I AM AN EMT AND I RESPOND WITH MY VEHICLE TO REAL EMERGENCIES AND IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK, IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO PEOPLE I AM TRYING TO HELP. I DO NOT SEE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND IT FRIGHTENS ME!!!

I purchased a Dodge Nitro on March 18, 2011, within the first week I notice problems with vehicle. I did notify the car dealer, and they have attempted to fix the problems with no success within a week. The same issues come up. I have asked the car dealer for an even exchange, and they said that is not an option nor a refund. On May 12, 2011, I am scheduled to take the vehicle for another visit and for another attempt to fix the issue. According to the car dealership, the can only continue to repair the vehicle or get it re-appraised

On 2/11/2021 me an my mom was head to doctor at 445am and it was just raining cold and we hit a patch of ice going 20 miles and hour and i lost control and we went rolling 3 times and air. bags did not deploy and the seat belt restriors didnt restrict as we was rolling some time in process my head hit windshield and got knocked out it was on a hwy moving their was no one on the road but us.. it wount let me up load my pictures i have but will be glade to mail them to u waiting on police report he put wrong information about me on for so it needto be fixed.*dt

It started with all dash lights coming on saying it had issues and then just stopped dead in road. i had tpim put in, then alternator , and then new battery. was fine and then head lights stopped coming on . next, it starting with horn, and everything under the sun coming on and not stopping. took to shop and they thought they found it, and drove for a day and as soon as i turned on headlights it stalled. in motion on a street driving.

I purchased my car in 2012. in 2013 my car all of a sudden goes haywire. windshield wipers going off, fluid going off, door locks,and horn, [xxx] near had a wreck because it happened out of nowhere and car was in motion. took it to the dealer and they replaced the alarm. in july 2014 battery died and replaced the battery again. then may 2015 the car goes haywire again. wipers going off, horn blaring, door locks malfunctioning. i tried to start the car and the battery starts smoking. replace the battery and it continued to malfunction. this time when the ignition was turned off and the key was out of the ignition, the car was still running. i had to unhook the alternator for it to turn off. then i was parked and tried to use the key and the car wouldn't start.after several attempts to start the car i decided not to try anymore, pushed my key lock door and the car started. i took the car back to the deal and after 4yrs they concluded it was the total integrated power module. this has caused my heater, brake lights, headlights, and key fob/alarm to malfunction. this issue could have cause an serious accident and thank heavens it did not. i've done some research and notice that these parts were recalled and replace in previous and latter models of this vehicle but not 2008. im not the only one with this problem and someone could have been hurt especially if its dealing with electrical components. is that what it takes for them to correct it. dodge/chrysler should be held responsible for this defect that they know about. thank you *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving the wipers and fluid will start going off both wipers front and back and the horn will start blaring, have to pull over and pop open the hood and bang on the fuse box, everything will stop and i am able to start the truck up and go on. now the headlights stop working, i turn on the headlights and they come on for a split second and then off, only the running lights will stay on. i have opened the drivers door and the horn will honk and the wipers will move up briefly. other times nothing happens for days. *tr

Tipm computer is bad and affects many items. car will stall when driving. wipers and washer fluid will come on randomly. horn will suddenly blare on its own and stick. headlights will stop working. this is a very widespread problem and dodge has recalled other vehicles for the same problem but not the 2008 nitro.

Driving on a bumpy rode, i come across a pit hole, i hit the brakes to avoid any loss of control of the vehicle, and while doug so i feel my brake shake and the suspension give out cause the brakes to go all the way to the floor as if i have no brake power, took to shop they did a total break repair of $400, come another rainy day brakes go out the same way, shop said its must be a manufacturer defect

Driving on a long stretch of dark highway, lights started flickering on and off, finally lights went totally out leaving me in the dark not able to see forward i then crashed into the side of the off road scary, next day took to shop they said it was the tipm, goes out every 4 to 6 months going on my 3rd one lights are out, lighter, and window

The horn on the car will go off by itself, window shield wiper fluid will go off by itself. doors lock automatically.

The computer makes the the truck stall,wipers,horn,locks and washer fluid goes haywire and it does this while drive and parked.park brake dont lock brakes secure.airbag sensers stays on.its been happening since july 2015 took to dodge dealer in lake charles la.had computer replace but happening all over again.

The vehicle randomly turns on headlights, wipers, sprays wiper fluid, horn blows, lock/unlocks itself, windows and power lock button will not function during these episodes. this has happened with no one near the vehicle, upon opening the doors, and driving down the road. this has been occurring for a couple months very rarely. it's not done it daily for the last week. now it has added not starting to the list of issues. you can unplug fuses and put them back and sometimes will start. occasionally battery cable has to be pulled off and put back to finally get it to start.

Air bag dash light stays on

Two times our vehicle has lost all power while driving down city streets. we had no brakes or power streering.... thank goodness we weren't in heavy traffic and were able to get off the street without having an accident. the horn started honking and the wipers started going with the washer fluid pouring out. my husband opened the hood and banged on the tipm and was able to get it to stop. we were then able to restart the engine and drive to our home. we had the vehicle checked and was told it is the tipm and that it will be at least $1200 to replace. we are afraid to drive it anywhere for fear that it will happen again in the middle of traffic causing an accident. there are reports of people who have had their tipm replaced in their nitros and the same thing happened again after replacement. we are undecided at this point what we're going to do but we will think twice about purchasing another dodge/chrysler product .

Every time that i fill up, the gas comes out of the tank. i was told that this is a know issues and it is a part inside the gas tank and the entire tank would need to be replaced. i have researched online and it look the piece in question of the malfunction stops the gas from igniting in a roll over. how is this not been recalled?

I drive a 2008 dodge nitro, had it for 3 years, had no issues untill this year 2016, at the beginning of 2016 i had my car accelerate on its own while i was a red light, that almost caused and accident, took it in to the dealership to get that checked out but after paying $140 they did not do a thing because, they could not duplicate?? then months later, it happened a few other times, ones on my drive way and another in a parking lot at wal-mart, had.no issues for about afew months, but then suddenly just a few months ago i had a sudden scare of my car turning it self off on the freeway, i had my kids in the behicle and it was at night, glad nothing bad happened, but then i started to notice the lights on my pannel started to turn on, first it was the security red light, then, tire gauge, they till this day keep turning on and off, but the latest issue and most frequent is the windshield wipers, they stay truned on, the pannel lights and windshield wiper issue all started to happen since june2016 i called dodge not the dealership but their actually office, and all they kept doing was giving me the run arround, asking me to go spend my hard owned money to get it checked out, yet i had already done that when that first started, and they could never "duplicate" it, and that was when it would just take off on its own, i recently did a search and found out that all dodge nitros were going thru the same issues, yet no recalls have been done, not sure what they are waiting for, but these are very dangerous issues, why a lawsuit has.not been filed??? please of there is a lawsuit im not aware off please post it, we all need safe cars to drive, also im curious have any of you nitro owners have had dodge trying to buy your car from you, i have had offer after offer, i find this something strange

Having intermittent headlight problem some time has headlights and sometimes don't doesn't matter sitting or in motion am afraid to drive at night never know if have lights or not.

Takata recall ...once again nothing is still being done and my problems got worse it's already been diagnosed as the tipm and not only did it start out as horn blowing and doors locking and unlocking by its self and trying to stall while driving now lights are flashing while unoccupied and have flashed off going down the road..and as i went to go to work due to lights continuously flashing it ran my battery completely down left me stranded. this is a major issue.ive spoken with my warranty company they said it's not covered i've also called chrysler and they refuse to do anything about .let me add heat and air and heated seats go hay wire as well .but i guess it's time to get a lawyer..i'm not paying big money for something that's gonna cause me harm .

Fuel spills out when filled up .

Took my vehicle in for a recall. the recall was for replacing the emblem on the steering wheel. the emblem was removed but the replacement cover was not installed. also the recall for the drive shaft was not done.

Driving to work and noticed smoke. opened hood and flames were coming out of fuse box. closed hood and grabbed purse and phone. lady who pulled over behind me and people inside office called fire department because engine completely involved. took a bit for fire dept. to gain control and extinguish. i did research and saw several similar complaints re fuse box. insurance adjuster to examine 12/7/2020*dt the consumer provided photos. *tr

Tipm malfunctions..vehicle vibrated and shut off while driving..starter cranked continuously without turning engine over. continuously ran fuel pump which caused need for replacing,and a new battery as well. after replacing fuel pump,and battery,the vehicle shut off again..while driving. the vehicle,again will not start. starter keeps running unless you turn the key to the "off position"

Horn blows will unoccupied.doors lock and unlock by itself in or out if vehicle, vehicle has stalled several times,break light on and breaks failed ,heated seat either burn you or won't work, a/c comes on by itself,gas is disappearing really quick,oil light comes on, starter sticking, took to dealership and was diagnosed with tipm failing.s several times its tried to stall on me traveling on highway and friday ran upon a slow vehicle in a curve and break light came one as i applied breaks and had little to no breaks.i almost hit the other vehicle due to this .this obviously is a safety issue and needs to be handled .and its even affect the remote start as well .it won't run 30seconds and it shuts off .can't lock doors knowing they'll stay locked either .but most importantly above all is the stalling out its all tried to do and massive amount of fuel its dumping into engine getting into my oil ruining my vehicle and the electrical issue is gonna cause something catastrophic and needs to be recalled asap.

The winshield wipers turn on and off, the horn keeps honking, doors lock and unlock on their own, heater turns on and off, and the vehicle will not start sometimes. the vehicle isn't constantly doing this but it will randomly happen when the vehicle is in motion or even when it's on idle.

3 different times i have had to replace the battery in my nitro due to the stereo. the radio is not powering down properly and keeping the communication bus awake causing parasitic battery draw. i have a mygig head unit with navigation and sirius satellite dvd player. at time the the nitro will lock me in or out due to the stereo not powering off properly due to this issue you also can not get satellite service to work. dodge needs to recall this issue as we did not ask for the issue. also when filling up with fuel it does not stop on it is own like other cars and trucks, it spits fuel back out at you and spills everywhere on you the car and ground. the battery problem happens when it is turned off with no key in the ignition.

Was driving it an the whole dash lights up random codes now won't start

Two issues. it stalls going at speed on highway and it also had the dashboard light up like an xmas tree with everything going on and then the car will not start. everything has power when this happens but the truck will not start at all. when you exit the vehicle, the truck still acts like the lights are on and the key is ignition as it dings as a warning. i have had the power module replaced twice and the same thing happens. *tr

The tipm on this nitro is causing safety issues. its stalled going down the highway. it cranks but doesn't start. the wipers will not turn off. it throws up strange error codes then they just go off. my steering wheel controls and cruise control works when they feel like it. some issues happen while driving , but some happen when stationary. *tr

When refueling, gasoline splashes forcefully out of the filler neck every single time, no matter how carefully or slowly the vehicle is fueled. the quantity ejected is sufficient to create a significant fire hazard. i have learned to stand far to the side to avoid being soaked with gasoline.

I bought my nitro brand new in 2009. everything seemed to be working except the radio. in 2017 i started having brake issues . i had my breaks replaced and calipers 4 times because the back breaks would not release all the way causing my break pads to wear fast. i had to let it sit for some time because i was afraid to transport my children in it for fear that they would lock up completely. i took it 1 dealership where i bought my nitro from and them 3 other mechanics to see if they could figure out the problem. it is not 2020 and i just had it in the shop because the water pump went and found out my emergency break snapped i needed new breaks again. i hate to get rid of my nitro but it has been nickle and diming me not knowing what is wrong with these breaks.

I bought my nitro brand new in 2009 2 years later my radio would not turn off after car was shut off and door was open. i had to pull the fuse so my battery would not die. it also would shift off and on when ever it felt like while driving. i took it to dealership and they flashed it but it only mad it worse. now if the fuse was in i would be driving and i'll of a sudden my whole dash would light up and my gauges would start going back and forth out of control and my windshield wipers would turn on. i took the fuse out in 2010 and still have not had a radio in my nitro since. *tr

Brakes not working properly, problems with heater core

While driving the exiter ring broke causing abs/traction control/esp lights to illuminate. opening the door the spring detached, door now freely swings open. heater core needs to be replaced due to poor craftsmanship. the car no longer heats up. the rear window wiper no longer works properly. the doors in the rear of the car no longer lock or unlock when using the electric lock control. the heat shield from under the car broke off the vehicle.

When i tried to start the dodge nitro the doors locked , horn blows, wipers and fluid run. and now the car wont start at all. unhooked the battery terminal and hooked it back up, doors all lock with keys inside. there was a recall on 2007 nitros for the same reasons. why wont they fix the 2008 models as well. there really needs to be a recall on this

While driving car stalls for no rhyme or reason at different times. i've almost put it in the ditch multiple times now. thankfully all while going 25-40mph and not faster on the highway

The door locks for the rear doors do not work. the engine heater core also stopped providing heat to the car. even after cleaning it out.

2008 dodge nitro with 80,000 miles driving in town and all the dash warning lights came on blinking and the engine almost stalled. it continued while driving it. took it to mechanic next day but lights were not on. 3 pages of "lost communication" codes printed. mechanic said it was most likely the main computer but the lights were not on so they couldn't fix. the next day lights all came back on driving on highway car almost stalled and it wouldn't shift. we drove it straight to mechanic. it would not restart. thankfully it was parked at this time. mechanic said it's the main computer module and will cost $1500-$2500 to fix. if it died while we were driving it would have been tragic! it has under 100,000 miles this should not have happened already. we did not take pictures of all the warning lights that would be the only evidence we have. we can upload a bill once we get it.

Airbag light had been flashing off and on for a short period of time. after a short period the light has now remained on for an extended period of time. vehicle has never been in an accident with airbag deployment. the airbag light just continuously remains on for a period of over 6 months.

The wiper turns on at a high speed, faster than normal, horn get stuck, radio goes off and on for a long period of time and when you turn the truck off all continue to work even with the key out of ignition. this happen when i'm driving or when it's stationary. does not matter where i'm at, could be on expressway, hwy or road. it gives no warning.

The abs, traction, bas esp lights came on just a week after i purchased the vehicle after i took it in to have a recall completed. yesterday the vehicle’s brake light illuminated red and the vehicle came to a brief stop abrupt while i was driving. the light went off and i continued driving. the a few miles down the road the vehicle suddenly locked up causing the gas meter, speedometer and rpm to all fall to zero and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. i made it off of the road by coasting the car and put it in park. the engine was still running so it wasn’t the battery. i turned the vehicle off and proceeded to my destination and the brake light came back on briefly and along with the check engine light then went away. imagine my dismay as i had just had a recall completed and was not informed as to what the other issues with the vehicle may have been. i honestly and truthfully believe that this vehicle should have a recalled placed on it for the antilock brake system. i could have died because of the malfunctioning of this vehicle.

Gas tank overflows after gas pump shuts off

Vehicle started having electrical issues. wipers and lights would jump on by themselves while i was driving. tipm and esp icon lit up on the dash shortly after. vehicle would make grinding noises when putting vehicle into different gears (park, reverse, and drive). doors would not automatically lock once the vehicle was moving as it was programmed to do. functions on key fob no longer worked as they should (lock button would unlock the doors and unlock button would activate the automatic start). i removed the battery from the key fob after my vehicle was broken into once the fob started malfunctioning. vehicle has been parked for the last 3.5 weeks after electrical issues got worse and the air bag light started coming on. i have read several reviews and checked for recalls and it seems that some of the issues that i have experienced with my 2008 dodge nitro are very common amongst other dodge drivers as well as chrysler 300 drivers. i know of 2 other people that are having the same issues with their chrysler 300s (older 2007 models). a recall needs to be started for safety purposes because operating these vehicles in this state are highly unsafe. i was driving to work (about 530ish one morning) and the abs, esp, tipm, and airbag icon all came on and then my truck started stalling out. i had to get it towed home and it's been parked ever since. owners of these vehicles need to be extremely cautious if and once these lights come on.

Since i purchased the vehicle in 2010, it’s had strange electrical issues. first, the door locks have been malfunctioning. after a couple of uses, they no longer respond to the remote, or door lock button. nor will they automatically lock while the vehicle is in motion. that’s very dangerous. the second issue is that the horn would randomly honk. the honking stopped for about a year. tonight, the honking started at random and wouldn’t stop. the key wasn’t in the ignition and the car was parked. i had to remove the negative battery cable to avoid a visit from the police for disturbing the peace. the third issue is that the airbag light came on. yet another strange issue. when starting the engine, there will be s long start as if the starter stays engaged for too long. sometimes , the engine will start, not idle and just stop. the engine has started and barely had any power and would barely move.

As i was driving to work, the alarm began going off, the wiper blades both front and back turned on, the doors were locking & unlocking themselves as i was driving & my vehichle stalled in the middle of the morning rush hour. thankfully, i was able to once again start it long enough to pull off to a safer area. i propped the hood open after doing some quick research on youtube as to what it could be causing the alarm wiper blades to turn on. i tapped the tipm (or fuse box) a bit just like in the video iooked up and sure enough the alarm shut off & my car started once again. i've looked at several forums online between dodge nitro users & they all seem to be having the same issue pointing to the tipm. in the forums the owners of these vehicles are stating there's thousands of dodge/chrysler vehichles with this same issue. yet, there has been no recall. not only does the tipm replacement cost approximately $1,000. but it is extremely dangerous to drive these vehicles that are stalling in the middle of traffic, during rush hour & with children in the car. please take a look into this issue, don't ignore the thousands of people that are having this issue with dodge/chrysler vehicles & do a recall. once, again i feel that it is very dangerous for a car to stall & behave in that manner while in motion. not only for the driver but for other drivers around these cars with defective tipms.

Vehicle lost power, brakes & steering, all warning lights lit up, wipers and pump running continually, horn blaring continually, and fan motor running even with keys out of ignition. this happened in rush hour traffic on the way to work and i barely got it off the road and out of traffic before coming a stop against a curb! replaced the tipm & battery within the last 4 months and it’s only gotten worse!

I love this vehicle except for the brakes. we've had to get the brakes worked on more than 10 times. we've replaced just about everything to do with brakes. just when you think they are fixed, something else happens. this is a 2008 and has less than 38000 miles on it. we take very good care of it. i can't take it anywhere because i'm not sure if it will make it. i was going to trade my nitro in for a for something new. i think i will be looking into a ford suv. very , very dissatisfied!!!!

Automatic 2 wheel drive emergency brake will not hold when applied. took to dodge dealership several times with no success or repair. was told nothing they could do about it. recall on 4 wheel drive only. had new brakes- rotors- calibers and pads installed emergency brake still not working.this is a serious safety issue.

After parking car any where and locking doors with fob or manually the locks will unlock themselves within seconds to hours multiple times causing battery to deplete. replaced batteies in fobs and car-didn't correct problem. this is a safety issue not being able to keep doors locked.

Started vehicle and drove a block with heater and wipers running. the heater shut off and on and the horn started blaring off and on. during this time the locks were going up and down too. pulled over, turned ignition to the off position and removed the key. the engine still ran for a little bit, horn still blaring, and front/back wipers still ran without a key in the ignition. eventually the engine shut down with everything except for the wipers. the wipers continued to run until we had the vehicle towed away a couple hours later. there was smoke coming from the fuse box and a terrible smell of a melting electrical system. this is a huge safety concern because i could have been on the highway traveling over 75 miles per hour in the rocky mountains when this all occurred. thankfully this happened while exiting a business instead. recall needs to happen before someone dies. unfortunately the local shop couldn't take my vehicle in to inspect. tried other shops in nearby towns plus a dealership and they were not able to take the vehicle either. so i eventually had the vehicle towed from eagle, co to the denver metro. cost me nearly $600 just for the tow to my house. i still need to have it towed to the local garage and accessed. looks like it will cost plenty. the garage suggested fixing the problem was not worth the effort. the cost to remove, replace, service, adjust, reprogram, and install would exceed $5500 and that would not guarantee the vehicle to properly work. blue book value for private sale is listed at $5804 when the vehicle was running properly. ended donating vehicle to vehicles for veterans so they could part out the remaining items that were still good. purchased new/used vehicle to replace the nitro. i would like to recover at least the blue book value of $5804 if possible. this breakdown has caused financial hardship within our home.

4 big things wrong: first, the fuel spills out onto the ground when filling it up at gas station because it does not click off. i am always in a hurry to leave the gas station so no sparks ignite the fuel on the ground and then blow up my truck. second, there are electrical problems. none of the inner dome lights work and the passenger headlight has a short in the wiring. 3rd, the heater stopped blowing through the main vents and also it gets cold then hot then cold again. the temperature on heater wont stay warm. 4th:the transmission is slipping and wont run right. it will not move when gas is pushed then after a few seconds it will kick in and go. then it slips between gear shifting. its an automatic

Premature rust through of oil pan and trans. pan. due to defective materials. will leak and cause a possible fire and or loss of control of the vehicle.

The heat shield protecting the tunnel on my 4x4 dodge nitro broke loose and began rubbing on the drive shaft. the heat shailed failed and corroded at all fastening points. the heat shield and drive shaft were both damaged. the service bulleting about the heat shield and drive shaft from the 4x2 model of the 2008 dodge nitro should also apply to this model year.

While driving or car sitting it randomly starts honking horn, wipers going, wiper spray, lights flashing. dangerous while driving on road due to lack of visibility. suspect tipm (totally integrated power module) is the problem.

When i start my truck it do not start right away. i have to try at least 3 times. when i put my truck in reverse the car stalls an then i have to appl the gas hard an it jerks an doesn't move. i have to put the car in drive the try to reverse again. there's also a loud rubbing noise while in reverse. there's also a electrical problem the radio goes in an out. there is black padding around my car battery to keep the wires from touching. i complained to the dealer several times. the heat was not working. they took the truck and made the repairs. the only thing that was fixed was the heat. i am still dealing with the other issues. i have three children. two of them have disabilities. autism and adhd. this situation is very stressful. when i purchased this leased suv i had all these problems an i still have them.

Every time i fill up the gas tank, it overflows and shoots out all over the vehicle, the ground, and any thing or any person that is close by. from what i understand, this is a common problem with this vehicle. it has always been an issue and is not something that has recently developed.

Doors unlock lights inside and out all lights come on when no one is touching the keys they keep doing it every couple of minutes and stay on for up to five minutes draining the battery. the vehicle is parked keys out and it still happens

It constantly honks horn, flashes lights and locks and unlocks unattended with or without keys in ignition.its so bad runs battery down. noticed it's tried to stall while driving going around curves or turns. it's been diagnosed as the tipm and warranty won't cover it. i've disconnected the battery due to annoying others as well plus running battery down.this is getting to be a bigger problem.more and more issues .it's definitely a safety issue and needs to be fixed by chrysler!

The car has turned off while driving on the city street. also, the car's horn, window wipers and lights in side have just started going on for no reason while leaving for school. even after stopping car and turning it off, everything was still going on. i've heard it's a tipm issue with dodge's vehicles.

We were driving straight through a parking lot on friday, may 11 and suddenly the wipers in the front and back started going at an accelerated rate and the wiper fluid was continuously pumping out and the horn was continuously honking. i got into a parking spot, tried to turn the car off and it wouldn't. i was even able to turn the key in the ignition to the off but it was still running and i could pull the key out while it was running.. i was so startled i am not sure if the lights or any signals were going off. i did research on the web and apparently many, many people have had that and it is the tipm. it is not an isolated incident with these nitros. i brought it to the dealer today and they said it would be okay but gave me their card in case it happens again. honestly, i am afraid to drive this thing especially reading about the many incidents they have had. i reported this to chrysler as well.

There have been variant problems such as the power locks stop working or go on and off by themselves, even when no one is by the car (we can hear it). now the car turns off while driving, even just goes black on the dash and the engine stops.

Tipm failed causing all power to be lost while driving. there was a recall for the 2007 nitro and the 2009 nitro for the tipm and an investigation for the 2008 but no recall. this power module needs to be recalled. there are hundreds of complaints of this happening. how does one know if my 2008 nitro doesn't have the 2007 power module that was recalled installed

My nitro will not lock or unlock using the key or switches. driver side is the i my side that will unlock.

...so, i left my house, got about a block down the street and all of a sudden my horn starts blaring, windshield wipers started moving, the windshield wiper fluid sprayed, all of my interior and warning lights starting blinking in and out and my nitro started sputtering. at this point i had lost power steering and power brakes but i managed to pull it over to the curb and the car dies. i'm sitting there thinking to myself, "what in the hell?!" i was already startled from the horn randomly blaring, so i'm in the middle of swallowing my heart when heavy, thick smoke starts coming from under the hood. ...and it stinks like smoldering wiring. i snatched my keys, popped the hood (which probably wasn't too bright in hindsight) and ripped the wiring off of the battery terminals. it was hot under that hood and i'm glad i had the wherewithal to disconnect the battery. i realized then that the car was never going to start again, nor would i want to. i had a friend tow it to his shop and he had a look. the tipm, wiring harness/wiring and surrounding plastic was all destroyed. he said the wires got so hot that it would all have to be re-run throughout the vehicle, a $3500 to 4000 estimate. forget that noise. my biggest concern is that the car was moving when all of this happened and had i not been in a quiet neighborhood this could have been much, much worse, especially considering the power steering and power brakes failed.

I was driving my 2008 dodge nitro and felt a jerk then air bag tried to deploy and vehicle lost power while driving down the road. it did this twice and air bag on drivers side is trying to deploy with light and dinging every time driven. the gas cap will not seal causing check engine light to stay on and there has been contant electric issues. head lights and tail lights have to now be constantly replaced and air bag light is always coming on with dinging noise. i believe i'm having issues with the drive train and several other issues that are all recalls in this year of dodge nitro.

The breaks on my 2008 dodge nitro keep locking up completely while i'm driving down the hwy. which causes my truck to come to a abruptly forcefule stop. especially when i'm traveling at speeds of 65 or more. i can get the brakes to release by unhooking my battery for about 10 minutes. long enough for the system to reset. my brake pads are slightly worn . my abs light is also on / on my dash.

I just bought this vehicle. every time i fill the gas tank, the gas pump will click off when full and as soon as it shuts off, about a half gallon of gas will burp out of my gas tank and cover the side of my nitro and the ground. i've read a lot of reviews of a lot of other people having the same issue. they have taken it to the dealer and there is a defect in the fuel tank and the tank needs to be replaced. this is a major safety hazard!!! what if i were in a roll over accident? the fuel would poor out and one little spark, i'd be blown to shreds!!! or someone could hit me in the tank area and once again, an explosion!!! since buying the vehicle, i have read complaints from so many other people with the same issue. please recall these dodge nitros for the owners safety and the safety of everyone around us!!! please!!! it's a factory defect which should be covered by dodge for the consumer's safety. i should not have to pay $500 out of pocket for a mistake that dodge made. please help get these vehicles recalled for the fuel tank because it is definitely a major safety hazard!!!

While driving and getting close to a stop, if i hit a bump while braking, the breaks will fail and and loose all pressure in pedal. still brakes, but you really have to step hard on brake pedal. you get pressure back on pedal sometimes a few days after have to pump on pedal to get pressure

Car had not been driven regularly due to it throwing codes preventing it from being safety inspected. driven briefly around 12:00 noon on thursday, october 11th, 2018 to see what codes it would throw. on friday, october 12th, 2018 car was moved out of garage & parked in driveway where it sat until sunday, october 14th, 2018 when it spontaneously combusted and local fire department had to be called to extinguish fire. vehicle is a total loss.

I just bought my 2008 dodge nitro. every time i fill it with gas and top the tank off, the pump clicks off and a second later, about a half gallon of gas spews out of the vehicles gas tank, down the side of my vehicle and onto the ground. this is a major safety hazard not only for nitro owners but for the public around us as it could possibly lead to an explosion in the event of an accident. i've read many complaints online from other nitro owners with the same issue. a few have taken their vehicle into the shop and was told that there's a factory defect inside the tank which is causing the issue. they replaced the tank and the problem was fixed. please... we need to get these vehicles recalled and fixed as soon as possible!!!

My a/c and heat randomly stopped working out of no where. no matter how long i wait or how high i turn it, the air never comes on. it’s winter time and it’s dangerous to be without heat in a car. i know several people who have the same problem and mechanics never seem to know how to fix the problem. so it just keeps happening. it doesn’t work when it’s stationary or motion.

The intermitten windshield wipers go on and off whenever. even if the engine is off it still happens. also the horn with suddenly blow with no warning. i have had it go off at 7:15 a.m. and wake the whole neighborhood. unplugging the fuse from the electrical box makes it not quite so loud but still blowing. i have taken it to the dealership but unable to leave overnight. their suggestion was to disconnect the battery and horn would stop blowing. i am 77 years old of sound mind and that is not an option for me. told me to bring back when it did it again, which it did this morning 9/26/17. they are charging me almost $150.00 for a diagnostic when i told them what the problem probably is. the tipm circuit board. the service agent said it was a costly repair. i do not think i should be paying anything since this seems to be a problem with this particular vehicle. i'm extremely concerned that if the horn starts to blow and i'm behind someone who takes offense and could end up with a road rage incident. the vehicle is currently at the dealership and i am waiting to hear from them. help. it makes no difference if the car is in my driveway or on the road (which it was this morning). there is no warning it just happens. i've also been concerned the vehicle will catch on fire .

When filling the gas tank up as the pump kicks off at least half a gallon of gas spills out of the tank splashing onto my legs and spilling on to the ground. i bought this vehicle used and was told to contact a dodge dealer about a possible recall but the dealership has told me there isn't a recall but they've had several complaints about this issue. also, recently i have been unable to lock my vehicle because a few seconds after activating the locks either manually or using the key fob the car unlocks and the headlights come on. i had to take the battery out of my key fob as it would continuously unlock and activate the headlights during the day and night. when manually locking the vehicle it still unlocks itself a few seconds later but does not continually unlock like when the key fob is in use.

The park brake does not hold, causing unintentional movement. this vehicle has a manual transmission. even when left in reverse, the vehicle creeps on steeper inclines. when talking to chrysler, i am told my vin is not included in any recalls. there was a recall (h28) that addressed this situation on this model and year of vehicle. the problem exists in the hand brake slack adjuster. the emergency brake shoes were inspected and properly adjusted. the hand brake lever runs out of travel before the brake cable tightens enough to securely set the brakes.

I received a letter from chrysler customer assistant center which stated the fuel tank inlet check valve in cars like mine were defective and they would repair it at no cost to me. i seduced an appointment with my local dodge/chrysler shop. they found that my car was originally owned and registered in canada. i contacted the company who sent me the letter. the person i talked to said they have no record of the letter that was sent to me. he asked if i could fax him the letter, which i did. he said there should be no problem after that. he later left a message on my phone after he received the letter and said their company was not going to pay for my repairs because my car was originally purchased in canada. i called canada and updated the information they had on my car. i bought the car about 4 years ago at my local dodge dealer and i'm financing the car. if i received a letter stating they were going to pay for the repair of the problem with the check valve they need to honor that.

The keys fob and the key locks have stopped working in the vehicle, you can only enter the vehicle by the driver's side and if you are in the back seat you physically have to unlock the doors, the gate can't be open. this is a serious safety issue especially for children who don't know how to un-lock the lock itself. this needs to be a recall as the tipm is bad in all these vehicles. there are thousands of people and nitros with the same complaint and i want to see this taken care of before someone or even a child dies, or seriously gets injured due to this malfunction.

I purchased a 2008 dodge nitro about 2 years ago. everything was great until about a month ago. first the heater went out. next the dash lights and radio started to flicker and dim. now the only time the lights turn on in the dash area and radio area, is when i turn my right blinker on. i was pulled over last week and was told my 2 brake/tail lights were out, and only the brake light bar on the lift gate was working. i replaced the bulbs and still no lights. i have all the fuses check and also had the brake switch changed... and nothing! i took my car to 1 mechanic who could not find the issue. now, my check engine light went on so i was able to take my car back to the mechanic. he found an abs brake sensor issue... but that was not causing 2 of my 3 brake lights to malfunction. he believes the issue is with my tipm and it will cost me a few hundred more, just to confirm this was the issue. dodge also wants to charge me a few hundred to look at my car and diagnosis this issue. its very frustrating to know that this car manufacturer is aware of all the issues with the tipm and they are not willing to cover the cost. i feel like i bought a lemon. i loved dodge before this. my other car is a 2006 dodge magnum and its still hanging in their just great. i really hope this part is recalled on all models.

I purchased my car in 2012. in 2013 my car all of a sudden goes haywire. windshield wipers going off, fluid going off, door locks,and horn, damn near had a wreck because it happened out of nowhere and car was in motion. took it to the dealer and they replaced the alarm. in july 2014 battery died and replaced the battery again. then may 2015 the car goes haywire again. wipers going off, horn blaring, door locks malfunctioning. i tried to start the car and the battery starts smoking. replace the battery and it continued to malfunction. this time when the ignition was turned off and the key was out of the ignition, the car was still running. i had to unhook the alternator for it to turn off. then i was parked and tried to use the key and the car wouldn't start.after several attempts to start the car i decided not to try anymore, pushed my key lock door and the car started. i took the car back to the deal and after 4yrs they concluded it was the total integrated power module. this has caused my heater, brake lights, headlights, and key fob/alarm to malfunction. this issue could have cause an serious accident and thank heavens it did not. i've done some research and notice that these parts were recalled and replace in previous and latter models of this vehicle but not 2008. im not the only one with this problem and someone could have been hurt especially if its dealing with electrical components. is that what it takes for them to correct it. dodge/chrysler should be held responsible for this defect that they know about. thank you *tr

Currently driving a 2008 nitro. the problem started small, the keyless entry would not open the door &/or it would make the locks go a little crazy. shortly after the keyless entry remote would set off the horn, windshield wipers, wiper fluid, flickering head and rear lights, and the locks would go crazy as well. this occured while driving as well, not very safe. took the car to the dealership, the tipm (totally integrated power module) needed replacing, it was not a cheap fix either. of course the year im driving (as well as many others) was not recalled like the 2010-2012 models. crystler is not taking responsibility for putting faulty parts in their vehicles. i will never buy another or recommend a chrystler vechicle to anyone, not even my worst enemy. this issue needs to be re-investegated and fixed!!

My door locks were not locking via car door lock buttons and key remote.only could unlock via key remote and door button. and had to manually lock doors. replaced m38 fuse that was blown. still didn't work researched online and removed neg. cable from battery for 10-15 mins. also remove iod fuse, nothing now my car will not do anything!!! only thing working is the mirror buttons and dome lights button. nothing!!!! wth!!! researched online and alot of people with same problem. seems it may be the tipm !! chrysler needs to own up to this problem and fix/recall the 2008 dodge nitro too!! now have to havevehicle towedto dealership to get it fixed. andthe $1400 extended warrenty i purchased just expired in jan.!!!! also the fan/blower fortheheat wasnot working at all. thismay be the resistor but can't look into thisbecause car sont start or do anything!!!!!

The tipm (totally integrated power module) is malfunctioning. several electronic features (blower motor, power locks, and a/c outlet) in the vehicle stopped working at the same time. i have read that this is a common problem with nitros but for all kinds of different electrical problems stemming from the tipm and nothing is being done about it. every electrical feature comes through this box including power to the ignition. i would hate to lose power while driving down the road with my kids in the car.

Two years ago my locks just stopped locking and unlocking. my windshield wiper fluid also stopped working. this presents a safety problem because on this vehicle there is only a manual key lock on the drivers side door. there is no way to lock the hatchback either. anyone can have access to my vehicle at any time. when i'm driving if there is a dust storm i have no way to clean the windshield as the fluid does not dispense. i have contacted dodge and they want me to pay to have it evaluated. i understand from a dodge forum website that this is a common problem in the 2008 and dodge does not want to take responsibility.

My thirteen year old daughter and i were leaving a store parking lot when i started the vehicle. after starting i attempted to turn on the air conditioning, blower motor would not work. while pulling onto the road horn started blaring, wipers fore and aft started going without being activated. windshield wiper fluid spraying uncontrollable, again, without my activation. pulled into a parking lot and shut of vehicle, all problems stated above persisted. left parking lot in an attempt to get the vehicle the seven miles home. halfway home, all problems stopped. wipers stopped in complete vertical position, horn stopped blaring, washer fluid stopped spraying. upon reaching home disconnected positive battery cable in an attempt to somehow "reboot" the system. after reconnecting cable, started vehicle and up to this point all seems normal, for now. in my opinion under different circumstances this could have been a very dangerous situation. i just purchased this vehicle three weeks ago and do not feel it is safe to drive if this should happen again, potentially causing injury to me, my family or the public in general.

The first time it happened i had just turned off the highway and the vehicle completely shut down but the horn was going non stop and the wipers too. i couldn't pull over because the steering was not working correctly. i eventually was able to get it to stop when my fiancÉ attempted to unhook the battery. this has happened about 4 times totally. the last time i was driving home from work at night, it was dark and the wipers went crazy and my lights went out then the vehicle just shut down, i couldn't see anything, thank god no car was passing by. at times it doesn't want to start but the wipers come on. i took it to the shop and after a few hrs they said it was the integrated power module. very expensive that i can't fix right now. very unsafe!

While driving home at night lights randomly go off almost causing me to wreck. also before this the car would randomly honk, light flash, horn blow really fast and windshield washer's and fluid would go off.

Driving down the road, the horn started blowing steady, wipers came on, washer fluid squirted, lights went off, engine would not shut down. this continued for 10 min as i drove it home to get tools to disconnect the battery. it seems to have fried the horn as it started making funny noises then quit while others continued. i could smell burnt electrical. the keys would not shut the car off. i disconnected the positive battery cable and after about a minute everything stopped then the engine shut off. the pcm relay was very hot. car is currently in my driveway with positive battery disconnected.

The horn goes off in the middle of the day for hours. once it stops the vehicle won't start and (no bus) shows up on the cluster gauge. the local dodge dealership tells me that the tipm might have went out. from what the reviews are on this vehicle, the part and replacement of this part are very expensive and i think chrysler/dodge should replace and recall this part. great vehicle just crappy manufacturing company. won't drive a dodge again even if they gave me one for free.

The headlights stopped working. at first they would flash on and off. after 4 or 5 times of turning on the lights, they wouldn't even flash. we tried changing the fuses, but nothing worked. the lights remained inoperative until it rained. once it rained, all of a sudden the lights started operating normally. this pattern has continued for over a year. sometimes the lights work and sometimes they don't. the dealer says it is a tipm problem. apparently, this is a common problem with dodge nitros. we did have a mechanic replace the lights/turn signal lever in the car. the lights worked without issue for about 3 months. now, they are not working again. and now we are having other issues such as the horn going off and the windshield wipers and washer fluid going off randomly and nothing i do will stop it. after about 5 minutes, everything stopped on its own. thankfully, we were in a parking lot at the time. i can only imagine the danger if this happened while driving in heavy traffic or at a high rate of speed. this is a huge safety issue. chrysler should recall this and repair the vehicles affected.

Driving down road when all of a sudden heard herendous squealing noise so loud couldn't stay inside vehicle while moving. upon examination i discovered a heat shield had fallen against and wrapped itself around the drive shaft. i now know the aluminum piece to be the heat shield from the transfer case. this shield is one involved for recalls of same year make and model two wheel drive. my dodge nitro 2008 is a 4x4 model not included in said recall. my question to the government as well as chrysler is one of why not??? fix my vehicle safety hazard too...

Windshield wipers start /spray-doors lock/unlock- horn blares- engine dies and wont restart-

All of our dash warning lights would come on and then eventually go off but the check engine light would stay on. from then on the car would fail to start on occasion. took in to dealer three times, the first two times they said everything is fine maybe you just need a new battery. finally on the third try when we couldn't get the vehicle started, they diagnosed that the tipm was bad. seeing as how this is a reoccurring problem for dodge maybe they should have started there, also the part to replace it is on indefinite back order.

What driving in my neighborhood and all of a sudden the airbag light came on and has not went off ever since. i have did the reset with turning the key in the ignition but it will not reset or turn off.

This is my third incident with a faulty tipm on my 2008 dodge nitro slt. lights, horns, front and rear wipers as well as the washer fluid spraying out of control. i remove the fuse for both the left and right horns to silence them, then remove the positive battery cable to reset the tipm. it has been successful so far. looking for a replacement unit for preventive measures.

I bought this car used in october 2014 from a friend and every time i fill it up at the gas station , the gas over flows with force and gets all over my hand and feet, sometimes it gets on my body too. i don't understand why it doesn't stop when it gets full.? *tr

My truck has a tendency to stall when at idle speed. happens on an intermittent basis. i first took it to allen samuel's dodge on 610 freeway in houston, tx. they could not reproduce the problem, suggested throttle body service which was perform. didn't correct the issue. took it to gilman chrysler on 59 sw freeway in houston, they couldn't reproduce the problem. within the past two years have had fuel injector service, spark plug replacement and fuel pump replacement in an attempt to correct this issue, all at the above dealerships. vehicle now has about 75,000 miles. problem still exist on an intermittent basis. i am afraid that it may stall in traffic while at traffic light or freeway traffic jam which could lead to injury or death. it is my understanding that the 2007 dodge nitros were recall for the same problem. i showed the dealers the recall form safecar but their comment was that my vehicle was not recall and since they were not getting any codes my problem was different. i disagree, it has to be computer software as with the dodge nitro 2007. i bought the vehicle new in 2008 and am the only owner. *tr

I have a 2008 dodge nitro 4x4 3.7l . my rear brake pads have worn about 1/8" into the rotor. i had gotten new tires for my vehicle not too long ago & ever since then i have been hearing what sounds like a clanking sound that seems to be coming from either the driver side rear or front tire area. it only makes this sound between speeds of 5mph to 30mph, then it seems to go away after doing 40+mph. my brakes don't squeal or make sounds when i push them. only when i accelerate from a complete stop does this clanking sound occur. i have not inspected the rotor yet,but looks fine from what i can see. i know i'm gonna need new brake pads soon but i have no clue what or where this sound is coming from. *tr

The windshield wipers either won't come on at all or will continually move all over the windshield as you drive. the wiper malfunction is extremely worse if you have the headlights on and use the turn signal. this causes them to quickly fully extend to the very edge of the windshields drivers side. this causes extreme visibility problems. the dodge dealership has not been able to fix the problem after several visits and multiple attempts of replacing parts including the turn signal wand and the entire wiper assembly. the mechanic said dodge recommended replacing the tipm, which the manufacturer was aware of a huge problem with this part on nitros. after doing some research i could not believe all the complaints with no action being taken by chrysler or the government for my model year. recalls were issued for older years, so why not the 2008 with the same problems? i can't safely drive my car with my vision constantly compromised and i can't even sell it with all the horrible reviews. now it just sits in my driveway because i am too nervous to drive it with these problems. *tr

It was may of 2013, not sure of exact date. it was evening and raining out. i went to get in my car and when i started the ignition and put my headlights on, they went off. after about 15 seconds they came back on, but started to flicker. after i shut the car off and turned back on the headlights remained on. over the past year this has happened more and more. each time is when there is moisture: rain, snow or frost. this year the occurrences are getting more frequent. i have had head lights replaced. the switch. a battery. i was finally told it is the tipm. the part will be between $600-700 (just for the part), its on national backorder, it could be months until they even get it in. now this means my only vehicle i can't drive. i leave for work at 5:00 a.m, which is dark and return in the evening (in winter) around 5:30 which is dark. these lights go out randomly and dodge said they are unaware of any tipm problems. this is a major safety issue to myself and the public. *tr

I had 2 consecutive instances yesterday where, while driving, all of the notices came on on the dashboard display, my anti lock brakes locked up and then released, along with my horn and front and rear wipers engaging and not being able to be turned off. also, once i pulled over and removed the keys, these issues continued, and the vehicle was still running despite no key being in the ignition. after waiting approximately 20 minutes, and once all of the anti theft features had stopped, i got back into my car, started it, and no more than 40 feet down the road, the vehicle repeated the earlier issue with the anti lock brakes locking up momentarily, the horn was blaring, and both the front and rear wipers started and wouldn't stop even when trying to use the wiper control to turn them off. again, the vehicle appeared to still be running even after shutting the key off and removing it from the ignition. *tr

I have had problems with what i believe is the electrical and i am afraid of it causing a fire. i have had dash lights come on for the breaks only to have the chrysler dealer tell me nothing is wrong. then when the turn signal is turned on the dome light was flashing. then 4 dash lights come on and it has something to do with the break system brought to mechanic he done an analysis said i needed a part. a week later the lights are out so i went back and this time was told as long as the lights are out there is nothing wrong. i am not a mechanic or scientist but i don't think it takes a rocket scientist to know something is not right with the electrical. the locks lock and unlock by themselves and this zaps my battery. i have a brand new battery which is dead today. i have called chrysler and they said i have to have another analysis done???? this is crazy! *tr

As i was driving down i-459, there was a large piece of a 18 wheeler tire going across the interstate. the car in front of me in the other lane swerved to miss the tire which knocked it directly in front of me. i had no choice but to go over it. immediately after i rolled over it my vehicle began to overheat. i stopped my car and had to call a tow service to come and pick my vehicle up to be serviced. i had a busted radiator, condensor, and radiator bracket.

On august 20th, 2014, i noticed that my power door locks and front windshield washer pump had both stopped working. looking this up online, i saw that there were numerous complaints with the tipm system for my nitro as well as other chrysler models. since the repair costs were estimated at more than $1000, i decided to go without getting this repaired for the time being. today, while heading into a local supermarket, i noticed a horn beeping, and turned around to find that it was my nitro! the horn was going non-stop, the wipers were moving and the washer fluid was spraying out continuously. i ran to the car, embarrassed i moved it to the back of the lot, where two men helped me try and pull fuses out of the tipm unit, in an effort to get the horn to stop. we finally found the right ones, but the wiper pump had to be unplugged as it wouldn't shut off. what a coincidence that this happened to me, after reading numerous stories of the exact same thing happening to other people who own dodge nitro's. if chrysler does not take responsibility for this defect, not only will i never buy from them again, i will tell everyone i can to never waste their hard earned money on a chrysler product; that's bound to have a negative effect on their sales. *tr

When attempting to turn on headlights, they flash 2 or 3 times and go off. they will not stay on. it's like the computer or a relay is attempting several times and then gives up. i disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and the problem cleared for a few hours. it came back exactly like before. another disconnect would not clear the problem again. also, the horn will now sound when unlocking the doors. this has been an intermittent problem for several years. press the remote unlock and the alarm horn sounds. previously it was about once every couple of months but now is several times per day. sometimes it does it even when unlocking the door manually rather than with the remote. the fog lights are fine but high and low beams are unusable, now. based on internet research, this is a very common problem among various dodge vehicles and often requires replacing the tipm for around $1000. *tr

This situation has happened quite a few time and has escalated over the time period. the first time i walked out to my car. i pressed the key to unlock it and the horn started honking, the windshield wipers and spray was going and the lights flashed. this lasted approx. 5 seconds. and stopped. the next incident occurred while driving down the fwy. same symptoms occurred, but this time lasted approx. 30 seconds then stopped. the third incidence: same symptoms but would not stop. i opened up the hood, for some reason slapped the fuse box and it stopped but when i went to drive it would not shift from 2nd to 3rd. gear. this kept happening with increasing frequency and duration. i took it in to the dealer. as i was waiting in line to check in, it happened. everyone was stunned and amazed, and laughed at my possessed vehicle. now they can't get it to happen while it is on the computer. it has been almost 2 weeks and i still don't have my car. *tr

I was driving down the highway and my horn and lights start flashing and at the same time my windshield wipers and water started going off. as i slowed down and exited the highway i notice my air conditioning had gone off as well. i was lucky i was able to remain calm this was very scary especially with my 15 month old baby in the back seat. after i exited and turned off the car nothing stopped. i pulled out the key and the vehicle remained started with the horn, lights, windshield wipers and water remained on. i ended up popping the hood and undoing the battery to make it stop. after 5 minutes it tried to reconnect and it was still happening. i came back to the car after 30 minutes reconnected the battery and the car acted as normal. *tr

I have been a police officer for over 21 plus years of my life worse dodge vehicle i have ever owned. this vehicle is a 2008 dodge nitro.i am praying that this will help before somebody gets killed in this vehicle. the road noise in this vehicle is so loud u cant hear yourself talk. the vehicle started shooting wiper fluid driving down the roadway, turned windshield wipers on and they don't work. stopped the vehicle without wrecking because of traffic they come on and wont turn off. horn goes off all the time going down the roadway. the headlights will turn off without any notice. the transmission will stop shifting, stops u in the roadway. the back running lights go off and on. the air conditioner has now stopped working. the window will roll down at any given time. this has happened several times in rain storms where nothing works vehicle will shut off. i know the 2007 had a recall on the tipm but nothing yet on the 2008. i had this vehicle in the shop sense may i had no other means of getting to work so i'm driving this vehicle now and letting my wife drive my truck. the mechanic said i should sell this death trap. i cant do that i will trust that someone on this site will help. do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. please help with getting these problem placed on an active recall. been making payments on a vehicle i cant even drive. i would even be glad to let yall run test on this vehicle. they call me moparlawman. i don't know how long i can stay fateful to a company putting vehicles out for sale like this. thanks *js

I think that something should be done. i am having air conditioner problems with my 2008 dodge nitro. i bought the car from hamilton auto group on rt 33 in hamilton nj, days later they closed their doors. i bought the car in 2009, so it was 1 yr old. i purchased an extended warranty which i never used. now i have an air conditioner blowing warm to hot air. i have been researching on line and it seems like this is a common problem with this vehicle. it also seems as though all of the complaints i read on line also state that dodge / chrysler is not covering the repair. so i am looking at about $600.00 just for the part plus labor. it seems to be a common problem. isn't this a defect from the manufacturer?? shouldn't they be responsible for correcting the issue if so many people are having problems with the same part?? *tr

The airbags failed to deploy when i was in an accident. i t-boned another vehicle at approximately 35 mph, when they turned into my path. i hit the car squarely in the rear passenger door. both vehicles came to rest 90+ degrees clockwise from the direction we were traveling. the plastic front bumper, grill, fenders, and inner fenders were destroyed. the right side front tire of my nitro was pushed back about 3" from its normal position. the center support of the bumper was broken and pushed about 12" into the radiator. i am sure there is a defect that prevented the air bags from working. *js

While pumping gas, the gas poured out the fillerneck after full. this would happen all the time until i had enough of it and on feb. 2014 i took it to d dodge dealer who told me it was a wrong part number and replaced my fuel tank no charge even though my warranty was used up. after i got it home and a few days latter it was time to fill it up and i did so. now gas is flowing from the tank from an unknown place to me when the vehicle is parked in my driveway either slowed with front of vehicle high or rear of vehicle slowed high or on level ground with vehicles right side higher that the left by even the smallest amount. now i must be without a vehicle until they fix a problem that is even more dangerous that it was before i took it to them to be fixed. this is a very dangerous problem and could put my family at risk. they said they would fix it but i would have to rent a car but it is their fault it is leaking and i have to drive 180 mile round trip to the nearest dealership to get it fixed. *tr

Intermitent problem only corrected by removing the battery cable and reconnecting, the windshield wipers will start working at start up of engine, no lights will respond, signal lights, horn, headligths and wipers cannot be turned off. car is able to be driven during this malfunctions making it unsafe in case of emergency. also during normal driving door locks unlock and lock on intervals of one second or two, radio changes stations on its own continuously. problem has been happening more often now, almost daily. *tr

All things electrical go crazy, locks are locking and unlocking on there own, even when i am driving down the road and eventually don't work at all. lights don't work on drivers side of car. i push the brake and the dome light in the hatch area on passenger floor light up. all sensor lights are on, in the dash area, seat belt, brake, air bags, etc. brake light is flashing on and off and dinging when it feels like it. this is an on going problem for a lot of the 2008 dodge nitro and i see 152 complaints alone on this website and a lot more on the carcomplaints.com. since they are no longer making this vehicle, but a majority of people that bought this 2008 nitro are having this problem. i beg you to please look into this and have a recall on this! thank you! *tr

The 2008 dodge nitro slt's alarm randomly went off in the parking lot and would not stop even after attempts to turn off the alarm with remote key. windshield wipers were also turned on while the fluid was constantly squirting out. even after driving the car alarm and wipers would not stop. this issue happened several time until one day when the vehicle stopped making any type of sounds (no honking, no alarm). problem is said to be caused by the tipm. lack of honking caused numerous potential accidents by failing to warn other drivers. i am complaining so that chrysler issues an overdue recall for the tipm as numerous other consumers are experiencing the same issue.

The last 2 times i filled my fuel tank in my 08 dodge nitro rt it spills out all over the ground. this occurs when the pump stops...then the tank starts to spill at least a half gallon of gas gets all over my truck and the ground!!! this can be a safety hazard at the fuel stations for myself and others around. a simple spark due to a faulty ground in the area could cause this to ignite and be potentially fatal. i feel chrysler should be held responsible for this and a safety recall be issued. many people have had this problem and it appears that the powers that be are not enforcing chrysler to make this a recall issue. i guess it will take someone to become severely injured or killed before anything is done about it. chrysler has a tsb (14-001-09) in regards to this issue so they know it is a problem and they continue to want to charge customers to fix the issue. someone needs to do something about this asap!

While filling the gas tank, my husband was covered in gasoline. i purchased the vehicle 2 weeks ago and it happened to myself, but i thought it was the gas pump that i was at. my legs were covered in gas and i had a cut on my leg and the gas was in my cut and burned terribly. my husband is a volunteer fireman and i am an emt. we will be using this vehicle to respond to real life emergencies. i am very concerned that it may cause injury to myself and others. this is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. the valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and my car could possibly explode in a rollover accident or if on an emergency scene it could be hit and cause and explosion.. *tr

This vehicle caught on fire in may, we got it put out, and i turned it into my insurance company, they had us take it to a garage and i did. i took it to waterfront jeep garage, they said they didn't see anything that had been on fire and we told them how the wires are and everything. we paid $94 to get it back. i was taking my daughter and niece (1yearold), nephew(2yearold)swimming and decided to go pick my husband up first, i dropped my nephew off and was going home, stopped at my mother in laws and it was smoldering with smoke we all got out safe but my vehicle burnt. the insurance company now is geico, and they have been good at taking care of it, but they don't pay the whole loan off, only what it was worth, which is -600. the bank keeps charging interest but what to do until they are paid. my question is can i do anything about waterfront sending us back out in an unsafe car or the insurance company i had then, which i had to pay the taxes of the difference of the rental car since they don't pay taxes. *tr

The tipm malfunctioned on my car. which causes me driving down the interstate to lose electronics, horn stayed on, wipers stayed on and my car down shifted and would not up shift. i had to swerve to the side of the highway to avoid being hit. the dealership saw the car in person while all the electronic parts were going haywire. then car would not shut off even with the key out of the ignition. the battery had to be disconnected. this could have been a major accident on the highway in rush hour. *jb

Wife was driving home from a dinner date with a friend, we were on the phone with each other when the horn started going crazy, wipers rear and front started running on their own spitting out washer fluid, door locks going crazy, both horns going off constantly, and accelerator not working properly. she pulled over and shut the vehicle off. everything continued to happen she removed the key from ignition and same result. i told her to try door locks on keychain no change, tried panic alarm on key chain and still nothing. she did not have tools to disconnect battery. after a few minutes it stopped. she made it home safely without any injuries except sever panic and anxiety. when this happened first thing i did was get online and look for issues. apparently this is a commonly known issue by chrysler. the tipm is bad. many people reported having same issue. chrysler wants to rip you off cause its a dealer only item. known issue and yet no recall was ever issued. i contacted chrysler they said per the vin they could not authorize any repairs except for the current recall that is active. this could have led to a serious accident. especially when you hit the brakes and not slow down at all and have to use emergency brake. so now we are stuck with a vehicle non op and don't have $1000 to fix a known issue by chrysler. i will never buy another chrysler product. i will be in touch with them again to seek repairs. *tr

Pulling into my driveway when engine suddenly started running at high rate of speed and car started speeding. managed to miss house and enterer garage with engine going at top speed. at beginning of driveway when car started speeding, i hit the breaks but it seemed to have no effect. when i realized car was out of control i pushed the brakes with both feet with very little effect. two of the four brakes finally took hold three quarters of the way in the garage and i skidded to a halt hitting several cabinets and shelves. the only clue i have as to why this happened is that the cruise control has been having a problem for the last few months. it sometimes worked and sometimes would not turn on and sometimes i could not shut is off...... *tr

A week after i bought the truck i was driving home and all the lights on the dashboard came on. there was a slight shaking from time to time when i would go and stop. it did not do it every time i drove it. i took it to the dealer and told them i did not want the truck. they told me there was nothing they could do that they would fix the problem for free. i had to fight with them for 3 months to figure out what was wrong. they never gave me a direct answer, but said they fixed the problem . the following month the abs light came back on, and i took the truck back again. i described the shaking that didn't happen all the time. they made the light go off, and told me if the shake happened i should bring it while it was happening because they couldn't tell otherwise what the issue was. about 2 months ago, my back brake locked up and started smoking after my vacation which the heat shield was flapping in the wind out of no where on the ride home and fell off when i stopped(still yet to be fixed). i replaced the caliper, brake, and the rotors. i had the front checked and they said the brakes were fine. 2 weeks later the shaking started again, and the front brake locked up and started smoking. i had to repeat replacing all the same parts. 2 weeks later again! the front brake started locking up so hard it pulled to the left, and was glowing red when i pulled over. i took it to dodge this time, and they told me the brake line had collapsed. when will this end and are all these things related to the recalls? if not considering i drive my 4 children in this car and it is a danger what can i do about it? why did they not tell me these cars have these issues, and why are they selling them and not notifying buyers of potential life threatening problems.the coils, and brakes and all are rusty like a old car i don't understand how a car as new and well taken care of could be this way. *tr

The first incident, i was leaving my house at night. as soon as i pulled out of my driveway, the headlights shut off.i replaced the headlight switch and thought that fixed it. within the week, the headlights quit working again only this time i was on the interstate approximately 50 miles from home. while trying to figure out the problem, i was driving only in daytime hours with clear sunny weather. about two weeks later, my vehicle seemed to become possessed. the wipers turn on spontaneously along with wiper fluid spurting and the horn going off. this continued even after my vehicle was turned off and the key out. my battery had to be disconnected to stop the madness. i found out by internet research that my problem was most likely the tipm since many people with the same vehicle had to replace it. i replaced that part today and thus far fixed my previous problems. however, now my front passenger airbag light is on indicating that airbag is turned off. the light stayed on when i had an adult riding in that seat. i feel the makers of my vehicle put many of their customers in danger knowing this was a problem. the tipm was on back-order at my local dodge dealership and many others. *tr

The dodge nitro has to be the most poorly made car i have ever owned. they just replaced my entire gas tank 2 weeks ago and another letter came in the mail, regarding a recall with the drive shaft. so far 2 recalls and now my car is unlocking itself and turning on its interior and exterior lights on its own. my car was parked in my driveway and keys in the house. a young man from next door came to my door to inform me that my lights were on. we locked the doors and watched the lights go off, only to find them back on an hour later and doors unlocked. woke up the next morning to find my car dead. at first we thought it was the battery and replaced it for the 3rd time in 5 years, but the problem continues to occur. a friend of mine also has a nitro that experienced the same problem several months ago. she had to pay $600 for them to rewire her car. *tr

Upon disarming the alarm/unlocking doors the wipers, sprayers, lights, and horn went off. i unlocked the door with the key and tried to start the car to disable and it wouldn't. when i removed the key from the ignition it kept running as well. it would not shut off. with the key in the engine wouldn't shut off either, nor get out of park. we disabled the battery... nothing. finally disabled the alternator and it stopped, only to start again when we plugged it all back in. there have been various occasions that the wipers have turned on when unlocking the doors in the past. along with quite a few times upon starting with a turn of the key you must turn it twice for it to engage. this has been in for service and they couldn't find a problem at the dealer either time i took it in. this car is a hazard and cant imagine if it happened driving as in a previous story i saw. unfortunately, none of this happens while still under warranty and if it does, they cant find a problem. *tr

My 2008 dodge nitro's electrical system is operating on its own. it seems like it is possessed. on several occasions (at least 10 incidents) for the past few months the following occurs. the front & back windshield wipers start operating by themselves. they go fast & then sometimes they move in a stop & go method. the rhythm of the wipes is random but its common to see them do a partial wipe,then pause, another partial wipe, then pause and keeps repeating. then all of a sudden it will go fast. the windshield washer sprayer shoot fluid (front & back) on its own, until the tank is empty. the horn goes off non stop. it just goes & goes & goes. the horn & the windshield wipers seem to operate as one. hazard lights are blinking constantly. the light above the trunk door is blinking. the signal lights stay illuminated. the doors lock/unlock repeatedly. on the dashboard the h.a.s. and the slick road icon illuminate. this occurs while i'm parked or driving. it occurs whether the keys are in the ignition or not. there seems to be a relation between using the remote unlock & a incident occurring. yet, it happens also when i unlock the door manually. based on other customer complaints from this message board, they are being told its the tipm or total integrated power module that is causing the madness. dealerships & chrysler/dodge corporate has told them the part is on back order. basically they have got the run around and not received any help. *tr

When filling nitro, you can not fill to full tank without fuel being spit back onto car ,ground and yourself. pauses in fueling helps somewhat but not completely. *tr

I began having problems with my 2008 dodge nitro in nov 2010 (still covered by extended warranty). i was driving and the car systems went haywire, the dash lights illuminating, windshield wipers and washer fluid engaged, the headlights cutting out and the horn blaring uncontrollably. turning the car off did not correct the problem and it eventually stopped after 3-4 minutes. this happened again on the way to work (this time the radio turned to full volume with no assist), the heat cut out and the windshield/lights/horn went nuts. i took the car in for a diagnostic and was assured they'd find the problem. the dodge dealership ran diagnostics, pulled codes, but could not replicate the issue so told me it was "absolutely fine" to drive. i continued to deal with the 'freak outs' throughout the years, until another one happened where the car would not stop (until we disconnected the battery). i brought it to a private mechanic who pulled codes and said there was a problem, but i had to bring it to dodge. on the way to work at approx 70 mph, i lost control of the car (it was as if i were slamming on the brakes-although they were never engaged) i am lucky the person behind me was able to swerve around me and not rear-end me. dodge determined that the computer told my transmission to go into 'fail mode' thrusting me into 2nd gear. i paid for another diagnostic and they told me a tune-up and a cleaning of the battery coils would clear the problem. the car worked normal for a while, but then had two more incidents, another fail mode on the highway (which also included lights/wipers/horn). i am pregnant and feel very unsafe in this car. dodge continues to maintain that there is nothing wrong with the car. i have videos of the 'freak outs' so they cannot deny it, but they choose not to help and to continue to encourage me to drive an unsafe vehicle. *tr

Every time i fill my fuel tank in my 08 dodge nitro rt it spills out all over the ground. this occurs when im setting the pump to stop automatically and the pump stops then the tank starts to spill. it seems to a check valve issue with the tank an can be a safety hazard at the fuel stations for myself and others around. a simple spark due to a faulty ground in the area could cause this to ignite and be potentially fatal. i feel chrysler should be held responsible for this and a safety recall be issued. many people have had this problem and it appears that the powers that be are not enforcing chrysler to make this a recall issue. i guess it will take someone to become severely injured or killed before anything is done about it. chrysler has a tsb (14-001-09) in regards to this issue so they know it is a problem and they continue to want to charge customers to fix the issue. someone needs to do something about this asap! *tr

Power steering fluid leak !! on these vehicles their is insufficient clearance between the power steering pump reservoir & the lower radiator hose connection at the engine block !! this is causing the reservoir to crack or melt & fluid to leak & blow all under the vehicle !! this is a real fire danger due to the exhaust converter being within 3 ft of the power steering !! lets not forget that this exhaust converter runs at approximately 2000 deg f. inside !! the dodge corp .esquires you to pay a $50.00 dol. core charge on these pumps !! this is because they want them back & not out for the n.h.t.s.a .to get hold of this !! these parts a not cheap !! $269.00 for pump , plus $50.00 core charge $6.99 p/s fluid & $200.00 labor to replace pump asm. !! they want aell you the pump reservoir by itself , they only service it with a complete asm. !! if someone has not been hurt by a fire from this vehicle they have been lucky !! this is really a fire danger due to the exhaust converter being so close !! i sure wouldn't leave a child in this vehicle by himself due to the fluid could ignite & engulf this vehicle !! i put 10 mph. in the vehicle speed at time of incident , because i cant give you a real mph . for this fluid leak from power steering !! the power steering reservoir is to close on drivers side of engine block next to the left front engine mount !! *tr

While driving the car stalled,horn started honking,lights were flashing and windshield wipers turned on and started spraying windshield wiper fluid. i was going 25 mph the first time this occurred, vehicle sat for a few hours then started back up. the 2nd and 3rd time it did the same as the first when i pressed the door unlock button on my key fob, when i hit the fusebox in behind the battery under the hood it ceased. *tr

3 weeks of owning the vehicle the windshield wipers started to go all by themselves, gauges went to 0, a/c stopped working, horn would beep, windows and locks did not work. this would last for approximately 5 minutes as you would drive down the road. this went on for a few days before i could bring it in. also each and every time i would fill the gas tank it would over flow. obviously the sensor to know when the tank is full doesnt engage properly. the elestrical issue was fixed and was said it was a censor gone bad. this is now happening again. i can not get anyone to say there is an issue, i am afraid that a fire may start or i could be in an accident with my child and possibly other passengers.

My 2008 dodge nitro, while driving on hwy, 60-65 mph, out of nowhere the vehicle powers down. the windshield wipers spray out fluid and moves back and forward. the horn continues to make noise. my satellite radio has no signal. my driver side window button has some kind of short when trying to roll it up.this issue has been going shortly after purchasing the truck. no one seems to know what is wrong. at first dodge chapman in vegas, they thought reprogramming the remote key. then i paid over $600,to lithia dodge in renton, wa because they thought it was something with the fuel tank. but no this issue continues to go. it is beginning to be a safety issue shutting down in the middle of the highway with my kids and me in the car. so i google if anyone else is having this problem and yes it appears problem has arised and it lies with the tipm. this product was recall on the 2007 dodge nitro. i took my truck into the dealership 7/18/12. told them what to check, because i brought the truck there before and they couldn't find the problem. i told them to check the tipm. the service department called me today 7/20/12 and tells me yes, it is the tipm (totally integrated power module). please help. i called dodge customer service and they are looking into this, but states there is no recall on this issue with the year of my vehicle. *tr

The problem is filling up my gas tank. every time i go to fill up the pump shuts off and then about one half of a gallon (maybe more) comes gushing out of the tank all over my vehicle, the ground, my shoes, and whatever else may be in the way. i have read online that it is a default in the gas tank dodge puts on these nitros. its supposed to be a safety thing in case the vehicle were to roll over. but we are talking about a highly flammable liquid just pouring out of my vehicle and onto me and the ground. i am not under warranty anymore, as i bought this vehicle used, but i really don't think i should have to pay to have something like this fixed when dodge knows that it is a defect. thank you for any help!!! *jb

I recently filed a claim with dodge due to rust developing under clear coat of my 2008 silver dodge nitro r/t 4x4, i am the original owner and purchased the vehicle new from dealership. i also purchased the interior and exterior protection package at the time of the purchase, i developed rust on the rear hatch so extensive that it had to be repaired. during the talked to other owners with the same year, color, make and model and all are experiencing the exact same rust developing on entire car. the anti-corrosion perforation limited warranty states all panels 3 years 36,000 miles and outer panels 5 years 100,000 miles in which my vehicle falls under the requirements. i have been denied warranty coverage for the repair under the dodge case number 22173077 along with one other person who was denied under case number 22212592, i was told that it was rail dust from transporting the vehicle via train, and the dealership should have cleaned the car prior to having the outer protection being applied. being that it was on the vehicle prior to taking delivery i feel it should be covered under the warranty. pictures from my and other vehicles are available if needed. *tr

As i fill the tank the pump will shut off and after a few seconds it the gas has a large splash back from inside of the tank i consulted a mechanic and he stated that it is the roll over/vent valve inside of the tank and that it does not open and close correctly and that the only fix for it is to replace the entire fuel tank at my expense. this creates a safety hazard in two ways when fueling the car, ground and the operator should not be covered with gasoline at any time second if the roll over valve fails then it should be a failure of the mfg and should be replaced. *js

I was driving down the highway with the cruise control set to about 70-71 miles per hour when suddenly i heard a ding and check engine light came on. the closest exit was less than a quarter of a mile away so i took that exit. as i began to exit the interstate the truck began to act really strange. the speed of the truck was acting up, slowing down/speeding up unpredictably, and even the steering got really hard to control. at this point a few more warning lights dinged on. as this happened, i quickly pulled off to the shoulder of the frontage road, put the truck into park, and engaged the parking brake. the engine had already shut itself off. at this point i turned off the truck with the keys, opened the door and noticed white smoke coming from under the hood. i pulled the hood release prepared to inspect under the hood and noticed a lot more white smoke than the few moments before. having walked over to the front of the truck, i wondered if it was safe to put my hand under the hood to release the locking mechanism due to the large amounts of white smoke. i decided not to and proceeded to walk around to the passenger side when i immediately noticed fire. up until this point, the total time elapsed from the moment the check engine light came on was no more than a few minutes. because i was driving up state to move into a dorm for my last semester of college, most of my possessions were lost in the fire. *tr

I live in metro atlanta and i have a 2008 dodge nitro. i love my truck but 12/01/11 brought my love to like and i don't know what to do. i work 2.7 miles from home - on my way home 12/01/11, the horn started sounding, lights were flashing, doors were trying to locking and unlock, front and rear wipers came on, and the water for the wipers started spraying. i pulled over, cut the truck off for about 5 minutes and started it back up. needless to say that did not resolve the issue. i drove all the way home with all these things happening. once i got home, 'i cut the truck off" and the wipers were still going as well as the horn, the exterior lights, and the door locks. so 'i took the key out' and wouldn't you know - everything continue to do the same thing. ended up disconnecting the battery. 12/02/11 i connected the battery from the disconnect the night beofre and the horn sounded for a few seconds but now my heater is not working - on the way into the office everything happened again. pulled over and had truck towed to the nearest dodge dealer. my nitro has 77,006 miles on it. *tr

With every fuel fill up i attempt, upon completion when the fuel pump shuts off and stops pumping the vehicle 'spits up' fuel spewing it on the car and ground. i have found no way to avoid this, even pumping slower or attempting to pull the nozzle out at the end quickly or leaving it in to block spewage. it is hazardous, messy, and not to mention annoying. i don't know why there has been no recall for this issue, as i've seen multiple dodge vehicles and complaints about the exact same thing happening everywhere to everyone. *tr

My husband and i purchased a brand new 2008 dodge nitro slt on 9/22/07. less than six months later, the nitro began having problems with the driver's side door locks not working properly. on 3/8/08, the master power window switch was replaced by a dodge dealership and seemed to solve the problem. on 11/18/09, vehicle was taken to a different dodge dealership as one where it was originally purchased had closed. at this visit, the battery was replaced as it was thought to be the source of all of the electrical malfunctions that had been occurring with the car for several days - horn honking on its own, window wipers (front and back) working on their own (with spray), door locks going up and down by themselves and engine light coming on, plus the a/c heater unit stopped working. the car had been towed to the dealership for this repair as it was not drivable in the condition it was in at the time. on 9/2/10, the car was taken back to the second dealership that had worked on it prior for the following problems: windshield wipers working by themselves (with spray), tire pressure warning lights indicating low tire pressure when pressure was normal, both turn signals flashing at the same time while car was either at a standstill or in motion, for no reason. i was told by the dealership that, because no codes showed and the vehicle passed all their tests, not duplicating the problems i had told them about, there was nothing they could do. i needed a warning light to appear on my suv or something that would help indicate to them what the problem is. now the nitro is in the same shop yet again as, on 2/9/11, as i had just started up the vehicle, the horn began randomly chirping, the dash lights all were faintly blinking and the wipers worked by themselves again. i drove out of my parking deck and onto a street when the entire dash lit up, the car completely died and began rolling downhill backwards. neither the gas nor the brakes would work. horn stayed blaring. *tr

Dodge nitro 2008 back braking system - little to no notice back brakes have grinded down to the rotor on my nitro - there are several recalls for 2010 2009 2007 on braking issues but non on 2008 i have had my nitro two years don't drive it much have 25646 miles total it appear that the brakes are braking even when not in use to cause them to wear out so uneven. front brakes are fine and have no issues. called chrysler called carmax where my car was purchased in or to check out the issue i have to pay for an inspection even though i have an extend warranty brake check or inspection is not covered. even though i explain there might be some issues with the braking system. *tr

Sunroof of 2008 dodge nitro sxt leaks after it rains. the problem started one month after the vehicle was purchased (march 2009). dealership could not find source of the leak on first occurence so sunroof glass was adjusted. second occurence was in april of 2009. leak was finally discovered by dealership's service department and all components dealing with the sunroof was "replaced". third occurence of same problem occured in early january 2010. water that leaks into the vehicle not only will eventually ruin the interior but the water leaks in around a set of map lights located just above the rear view mirror. this combination of water and electricity could result in someone being electrocuted or the vehicle catching on fire as a result of a shortage. *cn

Last evening my wife drove our 2008 dodge nitro to take my daughter to her high school (5 miles from our home). after dropping my daughter off and starting back home the vehicle began smoking under the hood while still moving through the parking lot of the high school. i quickly turned the engine off and got out. very quickly the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames coming from the engine compartment. the vehicle is a total loss. all service for the vehicle was performed at the dealership and the vehicle was never in any kind of crash nor did it have any major mechanical work performed on it prior to it bursting into flames. i believe the high school may have video of the incident as the parking lot is monitored via cctv cameras. *tr

Inadequate high beam headlights. when the high beams are selected, the roadway actually becomes darker. this vehicle utilizes a single headlight assy on each side consisting of an h13 high/low beam lamp. single beam headlight systems have traditionally powered both the high and low beam filaments when the high beam mode is selected and when low beam mode is selected only the low beam filament is powered. when high beam is selected in this vehicle, both filaments are enable briefly during the transition from low to high. during this transition period the light intensity is at the level one would expect to see when high beam lights are selected. however this ideal illumination is short lived because immediately the low beam filament is extinguished leaving only the high beam filament to light the way and it simply is not sufficient. on a dark road acceptable lighting can only be achieved with the combination of low beam lighting and fog lamps. i carried my vehicle in for service and i was told that the lights were operating properly and that this is the way that chrysler vehicle lighting systems operate. i purchased this vehicle new in june 2008 and after a road trip in jan 2009, i realized that the headlight system on this vehicle is woefully inadequate. i did a google search and discovered online bloggs where other owners complained about weak headlights on the dodge nitro as well as other chrysler products. *tr

The chrome accent piece on the rear hatch of the dodge nitro (just under the rear windshield wiper) is a large highly reflective surface area that is located at eye level for most drives following these vehicles. the surface reflection from this 'mirror like' piece blinds the drives following these vehicles creating a safety hazard. i was stuck in traffic following this model vehicle and despite my best efforts to shield my eyes from the reflection was blinded to the point that i had to pull over to allow my eyes time recover (the effect was similar to that of starring at a welding arc). a simple design change by the manufacture could eliminate this hazard. *tr

I bought my dodge nitro back in jan of 09, every since i've been bringing it back for a loud engine which knocks when going up hill, wind noise seems to be leaking into passenger front cabin, (driven other vehicles of same model, little or no noise) sales at riverside dodge in california was a dragging horror, they held my keys hostage until they could make a deal, i've taken it back and had a service person tell me my vehicle is front wheel drive and that's why i hear noise when i turn, i've been told that my computer has to catch up with the engine when i stop quickly that's why my vehicle shuts off on me when i brake quickly, rattles come from the passenger side front fender like there's a loose panel, brakes squeal from time to time, it shifts up into a higher gear instead of down when climbing a hill have to floor it to get it to shift down and climb hill, that's just to get it up to 35. its a daily non-stop battle with this vehicle and dealership. if there's any help out there please contact me. *tr

Whistling noise coming from vehicle. doors have been adjusted and windshield resealed, neither of these fixed problem. listened under hood and appears to be coming from head gasket/air intake area. possible issue with head gasket being wrong size. *tr

Driving through the neighborhood on the way home from work, and next thing i know my vehicle's front passenger side has dropped down causing me to lose control colliding into a parked car. the knuckle had broken causing the suspension to drop to the road. my passenger front tire made contact with the parked cars drivers rear tire. *tr

Chrysler denies responsibility and no lawyer wants to fight chrysler. i am not putting my family's life in jeopardy with that car. on 2/18/08 i leased a 2008 dodge nitro at crestwood dodge. on 3/31/08 my wife routinely started the nitro, put her foot on the brake (and not the gas) and engaged the gear from park to reverse. within a split second, the car made an unusually loud noise and the car bursted backward taking out the right side of our gate and a portion of the fence adjacent to the gate. this took her by surprise. she applied the brake but the brake was not able to engage as the transmission had torqued the engine so hard that it forced her into the side of the house and the rear bumper rammed into a brick pillar supporting the roof of the front porch and damaged the car. the impact of hitting the house and the pillar eventually stopped the momentum of the nitro. i called the service mgr at crestwood to see if there were any known recalls on the transmission malfunctioning on the nitro. he told me no. i asked him for advice on what to do. he referred me to the chrysler customer claims resolution group. (cccrg) i filed a claim with this cccrg. then we received a form letter from them stating that they will send an investigator to see if there was a problem with the nitro. cccrg informed us that an investigation was performed at dearborn collision and that we will receive an answer. they referred me to the case mgr. on 4/9/08 we received a letter stating that the inspector found no indication of a malfunctioning defect. i spoke briefly with dearborn collision and asked about this investigation. they stated that the investigator hardly looked at anything. never even started the car and that he were in and out within a few minutes. on 4/10/08 i spoke to the case manager and discussed how we can just get a new lease. he advised me that if i would have to go to the dealership and arrange a meeting with the district mgr that governs crestwood dodge. *tr

I purchased my pre-owned 2008 dodge nitro 2 months ago. a week ago it all went haywire like my car was possessed. it also happened the following week. -- while using the key fob to lock/unlock the car the horn starts blaring, the wipers (front and rear) start going, washer fluid shooting out, doors locking and unlocking, and the lights blinking. -- doors will not lock/unlock with the remote. i have to physically lock/unlock each door with the key. -- rear passenger doors and the rear hatch won’t unlock. -- when turning on the engine the horn starts blaring, the wipers (front and rear) start going, washer fluid shooting out, doors locking and unlocking, and the lights blinking for about 5 minutes. when i turned the car off it was still doing the same thing. -- if i turn on/off the windshield wipers the horn starts blaring and lights start flashing -- when pressing the actual door lock the horn starts blaring based on the research i did and other 2008 dodge nitro owner’s the diagnosis is apparently a faulty tipm. there seems to be a national backorder on this part. i am afraid to drive my car for fear of something major happening while driving. my doors won’t unlock and i am terrified to have anyone in my car. what would happen if we are in an accident the car catches on fire? i won’t be able to get any one out. dodge has recalled the 2010-2012 but has failed to recall the 2008 despite the national backorder for the part needed to fix these vehicles. i am really surprised that dodge/chrysler has not stood by their products and is putting the owners of these vehicles at risk. what is it going to take to issue a recall on the faulty tipm on all dodge/chrysler vehicles? why has dodge/chrysler not rectified this situation before it becomes a bigger issue like the ford tire recall, gm ignition recall and the recent airbag recalls?

For the past year i have been dealing with my horn randomly honking at all times of day and night, doors locking and unlocking on their own, headlights and taillights turning on by themselves as the nitro is parked with the engine off. on top of all this, since october 2014 my engine as been stalling when i tried to start it. i tried to start it numerous of times and it would turn on for about 3-5 seconds then shut off and recently it has gotten to the point that it doesn't want to start anymore. a diagnostic test was done and nothing could be found. due to all these issues, which have drained the battery life, i have replaced the battery twice within the past year. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge nitro. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the windshield wipers and door locks independently activated. the vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. no repairs were made to the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owned a 2008 dodge nitro. while driving 40 mph, the contact suddenly heard a loud pop and the air bag inadvertently deployed. the deployment caused the contact to instantly lose consciousness. the vehicle ricocheted over a tree, ditch, and then bounced until it came to a complete stop. the contact received medical attention and was treated for a concussion, head injury, chest wall pain, back pain and contusions to the knee, chest, and abdomen. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not associated with nhtsa campaign number: 13v121000 (air bags, power train, structure). the failure mileage was 100,000.

In a letter dated august 21, 2014, the center for auto safety (cas) petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the totally integrated power module (tipm) installed in chrysler suv’s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. the petitioner alleges that tipm defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. on september 25, 2014, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened dp14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. odi analyzed complaint data provided by cas as well as complaints submitted to odi from consumers. in total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with tipm-7. approximately 3 percent of cas complaints are related to vehicles equipped with tipm-6 and odi’s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. odi conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by cas and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available customer assistance inquiry reports (cair). analysis of the field data indicated that my2011-2013 jeep grand cherokee and dodge durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (fpr) failures than other subject vehicles. in a september 3, 2014 letter to nhtsa, chrysler submitted a defect information report (dir) identifying a defect in the fpr within the tipm-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (my) 2011 jeep grand cherokee (wk) and dodge durango (wd) vehicles manufactured from january 5, 2010 through july 20, 2011 (14v-530).in a february 24, 2015 letter, chrysler submitted a second dir expanding the scope of the fpr defect condition to include an additional 338,216 my 2012 through 2013 jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured from september 17, 2010 through august 19, 2013 and my 2012 through 2013 dodge durango vehicles manufactured from january 18, 2011 through august 19, 2013 (15v-115).odi analysis of the cas allegations of tipm defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the tipm assembly. the most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). no valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from tipm faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. in our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a nhtsa order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is denied. this action does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. the agency will take further action if warranted by future circumstances. please see the federal register notice in dp14-004 file (www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/defects).
