The buick enclave i have changes gear without any assistance and it is constantly slugging when making turns.

Timing chain fail

I purchased this Buick Enclave 01/10/08. In 11/08 took to dealership for clicking noise when turning wheel, can feel in throttle pedal when turning. They replaced the power steering pump 12/22/08 and ordered a power steering gear and replaced 3/23/09 (when part came in). In 4/09 clunking coming from steering, they replaced steering column, ignition key sticks and sometimes won’t turn after replacement. 10/6/10 loses power steering assist, dealership checked fluid, ok-test drove-no problem. 2/23/11 excessive play in steering wheel and shakes on expressway, /dealership no problem found. 6/5/11: total loss of power steering-causing lock up and damage to rear of vehicle while backing up and hitting a pillar (due to lockup), and steering tight around turns. 6/27/11 they install new style power steering pump, 7/7/11 GM inspects damage, 7/18/11 they replace the steering gear and 7/22/11 they repair ALL right rear damage /GM legal department. After replacing, Ron Marrese (GM certified engineer)stated there was still a small leak. He couldn’t figure out because everything is all replaced and new. He made me feel that the problem was fixed and done. In 7/2012 the steering locked up. 7/23/12 they replace the power steering pump. The vehicle continues to lock up since this latest fix, latest incident was yesterday (12/16/12). After the 7/24/12 replacement I contacted GM and got into talks w/their escalation department. The first person (Tiffany 866-790-5700 ext 41216, case #71-1089260176) I spoke with agreed that this car has an excessive amount of servicing, with over 35 different times with 6 of them related to the steering and replacement of parts for such, not including the service for the repair to the vehicle from the incident the steering caused in 6/11. She agrees this vehicle needs to be off the road and I believe she advised NOT to drive it anymore. After speaking w/ her superiors she came to me with an offer that they would give me $3000 cash over Blue Book. When I declined she called back to ask if I wanted her to take back for another offer and I informed her I had obtained a lawyer. She stated she then had to close the case. One of the reasons I declined was because I fear they will resell the vehicle. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED BEFORE IT SERIOUSLY HURTS SOMEONE. I continued to stress to Tiffany and anyone who would listen that I did NOT want this vehicle resold to an unsuspecting consumer. I have been and continue to be EXTREMELY fearful of this car and want it destroyed. I contacted lemon law attorney Steve Lehto in 8/12 and provided ALL the records for the services provided and advised I had bought an extended GM warranty (at time of purchase), which was 8 years 87,000 miles on top of the manufacturer warranty of 4 year 50,000 miles. This extended warranty expires 1/2015. He reviewed and took my case. Since then I have continued to get the run around. In October GM’s attorney, Edmund Yee responded that he was perplexed that I did not take their offer to repurchase the vehicle, then went on to state my claim for Breach of Implied Warranty and Misrepresentation/Fraud must be dismissed as a matter of law due to GM’s petition they filed under Chapter 11. He also stated my claim had to be brought w/in the 4 year warranty which expired January 2012 and the only way to extend the 4 period is for me to successfully argue that GM’s express limited warranty extends to future performance. He did somehow leave out though the fact that I did purchase the extended warranty at the time of sale that extends thru January 2015. In this same letter he offered (for a second time, as I declined the offer and countered) the same settlement as the first, which was to return the vehicle and they’d pay me $24,385.02. I again declined and their last offer was $8000 over trade in ($20,500). That offer came in 11/23/12. I declined and told him I need $18,000, plus trade in, plus attorney fees. I don’t want a trade in, because I continue to stress this car needs to be destroyed, BUT I am desperate to get out of this car. I have to drive my son to school everyday and I am freaked out every day as I approach the kids and other cars I have to maneuver thru, as several weeks ago, it did lock up while I was making a left to approach the kids ‘dropzone’. I ended up on the curb, which fortunately nobody was at. On top of everything I am dealing with a closed head injury I suffered in 1989, and continue to seek medical treatment for to this day. This situation has exacerbated my condition and has my physician very concerned for my well being. This vehicle is a lemon, and GM should be held responsible to do the right thing, so as not to create a devastating loss and/or more lawsuits due to a horrific accident. They have tried more then enough times to correct this problem, which has not resolved it. This car has never functioned properly as I’ve had to replace the brake pads 2-3 times and the rotors twice in under 38,000 miles, and the GM Engineer (Ron Marrese) had suggested replacing the tires because they were already worn out before 38,000 miles. I believe this information proves the quality of this particular car was not what I paid for and therefore, I believe I have the right to be reimbursed. I cannot stress enough how this steering is such a safety issue and how much I need help in getting this resolved and getting this car out of my hands and off the road permanently as soon as possible. Passenger airbag indicator is frequently in the “off” position even though an adult is sitting in the passenger seat. Dealers have supposedly repaired this item for me 4 times but the issue continues. GM seems unable or unwilling to address this presumed safety problem. Other 2008 Buick Enclave owners also have the problem and each of the 3 dealers I have dealt with on this issue tell me they are aware of the issue but have no long term solution. Car was supposedly repaired again yesterday and the problem re-occurred on the way home from the garage.

Vehicle developed an oil leak in the power steering mechanism. Was told by service department and the service manager that it was a serious problem and that the vehicle shouldn’t be driven and after a few days was told that there were no parts and that they weren’t being manufactured at this time due to a dispute with GM and the manufacturer.

2008 buick enclave. consumer expresses discontent regarding compensation for the loss of a feature on the vehicle that was paid for in the original purchase *tgw according to the recall letter, the consumer was to receive a $100.00 stipend to compensate him for the removal of the heated wiper washer fluid system. however, when he arrived at the dealer, he was informed he had to mail in a form and a copy of the repair order documenting the removal of the feature. the consumer has since traded the vehicle, but still believes he should be compensated since he paid for the feature in the original purchase. *jb

A little after we purchased the vehicle in july 2009, the passenger airbag sensor light would malfunction and indicate that no passenger was sitting in seat even though they were. we moved the seat, we bounced in the seat and the sensor still did not detect passenger. we took the car to dealer several times and were told that there was nothing wrong. we took the car to dealer 04/16/2014 to have the sensor check and they have reprogrammed the sensor, however, this cost us $103.17. dealer service advised us that if the sensor malfunctions again, they would have to replace it, however we would have to pay for labor and part. i just came across this website and decided to file a complaint because upon looking in your complaint database, it seems that other enclave owners have experienced the same thing yet, gm has not recalled the car which is obviously a flaw in their electrical systems. *tt

The front passenger air bag light frequently indicates that the airbag is off when my 110 pound wife is in the seat. i have noted the same complaint from other enclave owners on an enclave web site (http://www.enclaveforum.net/index.php?topic=449.0 ). *jb

Purchased a brand new 2008 buick enclave on may 10, 2007. subsequently, we noted that the "on/off" front passenger air bag light on the dash was inconsistent when my 5' 4", 115 lb. wife set in the front passenger seat. more often than not the light indicates that the air bag is off, but occasionally it shows that the system is on. we first talked with the salesman and he said this didn't sound right and i should bring the car in when it was showing the system was off while my wife was riding as a passenger. in august, we took the car to the dealer, bill kobach, in topeka, kansas with my wife setting in the seat and the light was indicating that the air bag was "off." the service manager said they were having some problems with the "on/off indicator light," but i should leave the car with them so that they could check the system. later, they called and said the system checked out okay and they had called detroit about it. they were told that the system was operating within the "parameters" set by the manufacturers for people of my wife's size. also, they said, these "parameters" were established by federal law. we find it inconceivable that we we paid $45,000 for a car with an air-bag safety system that was designed to protect both front and rear passengers, but yet it would not protect an adult of my wife's size when riding as a front-seat passenger. had we known this fact, we would not have purchased the vehicle at any price. safety is our biggest concern when buying a new vehicle. *jb. updated 01/09/08. *lj updated 12/12/07 *tr

Purchased new 2008 buick enclave on may 24, 2007. we immediately noted the "on/off" front passenger air bag light on the dash was inconsistent when my 5' 7" 118 lb. wife sat in the front passenger seat. about 40% of the time the light indicates that the air bag is off, but sporadically it shows that the system is on. june 1st, on my first dealer visit with this vehicle, i reported this problem and was advised that this was possible and we should view a seat sensing video. after several phone calls and visits to my dealer, royal buick of tucson (who have been more than helpful and concerned) the service manager called buick and was told that we were the only one in the us having that problem and the buick district manager said the system checked out okay but my wife's build was not designed for that car. we were told that the system was operating within the "parameters" set by the manufacturers for people of my wife's size. also, they said, these "parameters" were established by federal law. fast forward to 9-25-07, the sensor manufacturer sent an engineer to tucson and spent 2 hours having my wife get in and out of the front seat to establish a more realistic database or algorithm for people her size. buick or the seat manufacturer sent another seat right from the assembly line to replace our seat for their analysis. as of today 9-27-07 this new seat has a failure mode of 60% in the last three days (15 seat entries and 9 times the airbag failed to arm) we paid $40,000 for a car with an air-bag safety system that was designed to protect both front and rear passengers, but yet it would not protect an adult of my wife's size when riding as a front-seat passenger. had we known this fact, we would not have purchased the vehicle at any price. safety is our biggest concern when buying a new vehicle. this complaint is the same as number 10202517 with a few added details. *jb

Tl* the contact's daughter owns a 2008 buick enclave. the contact stated that while her daughter's boyfriend was driving up a hill at an unknown rate of speed, a flame had ignited from the engine without warning. her boyfriend exited the vehicle, checked under the hood and saw that the engine was on fire. a fellow motorist witnessed the situation and assisted her daughters boyfriend by giving him a fire extinguisher which the boyfriend used to extinguish the fire. a fire report was not filed and no injuries were reported. the contact's daughter had the vehicle initially towed to the contact's home where it was then towed to independent mechanic. the mechanic informed the contact the cause of the fire was due to a "mechanical defect" and was given an estimate for a repair. the manufacturer nor the dealer had yet to be notified of the failure. the vehicle had yet to be repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Passenger airbag sensor does not work with passenger sitting in seat at any time.

Waveplate debris in silinoid car jerks from park to drive doesn't shift well at all

I have financed this 2008 buick enclave, which i got in february 2016. love the car and all the space it has. that was until today! this week as i was leaving the car wouldn't shift into reverse. once i got it into neutral i was able to back down the incline from the carport to the street. it did shift into drive, but would only go about 25 mph on a busy highway and stayed in first the whole time. i contacted the local chevy/gm dealer and he said to bring it in. i couldn't because i was at work. this morning the dealer called again after being asked to by my husband and sent a technician to my home. the tech checked it and wrote some codes down and went back to the dealership. the dealer then called and said if i could get the car to him he would have the tech check the fuses and relays. he checked the codes he had pulled and checked all fuses and relays and said that i needed to contact a transmission shop because the computer was not talking to the transmission. all of this after an almost hour trip to drive 8 miles to the dealership and drive that same 8 miles back home because we kept having to stop on the side of the road and stop the engine and then restart it again on that same busy highway. we had several near misses (people driving the 65 mile speed limit nearly rear ending us). surely there is something that can be done to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else!

Had airbag recall done then light came back on

I drove my buick enclave 2008 to virginia from florida with no problems but when my trip was complete, i turned car off to go in gas station and tried to turn it back on...it did not start. it started to make a twitching noise as if something electrical was wrong. i got it jumped..bought a new battery and it worked fine for 6 days. now, it will not start at all unless it is jumped. it also locks the keys in the ignition if i tried to start it without a jump. the car continues to make a twitching noise when idle. im am agraid of a fire igniting. i notice that each time i had a problem with the car , it had rained significantly those days. i know of another owner that is having a similar problem witb their 2008 buick enclave. please help!

Rough shifting with a very noticeable 'shimmy' or shaking during driving.

I took my car to o'neil buick today for a safety recall on my enclave's lift gate. the recall letter from the dealer said that the lift struts may need to be replaced. obviously the recall work would be free. i was happy to get the letter because my lift gate was broken. however the service department at the dealer said it would cost $275 for parts and $109 in labor. that is was just a coincidence that my broken lift gate was but not covered at all by the free recall. this felt like i was being cheated. i would like to ask for help from the ntsa.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 buick enclave. while opening the trunk, the trunk door failed to open. on several other occasions, the trunk opened independently after being closed or did not close properly. the door would also fall and close independently. the failure recurred several times. on one occasion, the trunk door struck the contact's son on the head. medical attention was not required. the vehicle was taken to ron smith buick gmc (1900 auto center dr, merced, ca 95340), but the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure and stated that they could not find any issue with the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 122,500.

Nut came lose and fell off causing hydraulic fluid to leak from feont motor mount

I was driving my vehicle and a bunch of a.c. coolant came out all at one time and went into my eyes while i was driving. now my a.c. won't work. my husband has tried to put more freon in but it keeps doing the same thing. we took it to a repair shop and there are no cracks or leaks however they said the evaporator core was the problem. apparently they see tons of these issues with these models and years of vehicles and they all have low miles on them when it happens so i guess ours just failed later than others. he said there should be a recall with as many as there are and to report it here. also i would like to add that this vehicle has had a significant amount of recalls and should be considered a lemon. gm has had nothing but recalls with their enclaves, acadias and saturns in the years 2008-2010 models and all of these models have the evaporator issue! the cost to fix this is $2,000!!! the evaporator should not be going out on a vehicle like this.

I just bought this vehicle and the air bag light is on.

I was driving on the interstate on april 6th, 2017 with our two young daughters (spring break). our 2008 buick enclave made a subtle noise, then a second noise that was a bit louder. i pulled over just in time for me and my little ones to get out. within seconds, the car was smoking heavily with flames falling to the ground; and then within minutes, it was burning fiercely. two good samaritans had pulled over. a lady rushed to grab my kids and ran with them to her car. the 2nd (a former police office) called 9-1-1. the firefighters arrived on scene to put out the fire, but the car had practically burned to a total loss. we still have no idea what caused the fire. just worried that this might not be a one-off. i have included the firefighter's report. geico has deemed the car a total loss. not sure i can trust another buick. all our friends and colleagues who drive this same car want to know why this could have happened--as do we.

Various problems with electrical. had harness replaced (come to find out its due to water leak). air bag sensors go off and on so you really don't know if its working or not. engine shutdown completely and now when its started the engine makes loud knock. was told possible timing chain. only has 140,000.

Every time it rains water gets into my vehicle from sunroof. i researched information and it was a recall about it in 2009 under customer satisfaction recall nothing is being done about it and water may cause damage that i can not see.

Car was parked. water appeared to be coming from sunroof and running down pillars which flooded the front floorboards.

Service traction control and stabilizer. i believe this is a safety issue. and not covered by warranty.

Passenger side airbag warning light goes on and off intermittently with a passenger sitting on this side. warning light says to service the air bag. this vehicle has never had the airbags deploy.

This is a 1 owner vehicle, not driven long distances or on salted or rough terrain. in the last few months, i have had to replace both stabilizer bars, shocks, struts, and because the brakes were not put back on properly the brakes and rotors, and in 2011 the gear box had a leak which was replaced. now after spending $4k in the last few months, i am being told the rack and pinion (which is the same as the gear box) is leaking again! i only have 74k miles on this car! i previously had a 1990 chevy suburban that never had these kinds of issues! and yet here alone i see over 80 issues for the power steering alone! make gm recall this vehicle or i fully intend to start a class action lawsuit and include your organization as well for failure to protect the public!

My 2008 buick enclave has been an accident waiting to happen the entire life of the car. my main concern is the power steering. it has gone out 5-6 times in the 8 years i have owned the vehicle.if you would like invoice of each time/date i have them with the exact problem. five or 6 times it went out.-- three at slow speed low rpm trying to turn in the city and at 6 1 wt 230 it took all my strength not to hit a car head on during the turn.three on the interstate turning off exit an higher speed. if my daughter or granddaughter had been driving in the city they would have been dead. buick extended the power steering warranty to 150;000 miles . i had the last power steering pump put in at 149,432 miles 11/23/16. my concern to you and buick is about every 25k power steering goes out. i never had a power steering problem with my 2002 chevey sub with 160k witch we still drive--never had a power steering problem with my 2002 gmc den with 251k witch we still drive. .buick knows they made a engineering design flawed car with their first enclave suv at the expense in money and lives of the 2008 owners all 2008 enclaves should be grounded like the 787 was before boeing/faa found out what was causing the battery fires and fixed them!!.why is a flying public life worth more than the a driving public life? if you and buick will not ground the enclave then at least they should be a free safety check ever quarter for the life of the car for their design flaw problems.i think there are 12. ps i cannot write 6 times so i put last one on 'when did this happen.

I own buick enclave 2008. it was purchased in oct 2016. a few weeks later the passenger side air bag light keeps coming on. it goes on and off driving down the road. if you jump and move around in the seat. sometimes you can get the warning light to go to off. but most of the time the passenger air bag warning light is on. it doesnt seem to matter if you are 150 or 225 pounds. it happens when your moving or sitting still, it happens in the city and driving on the highway, turning or driving straight. it is rediculacy unsafe for the passenger!

My family was driving home from a summer vacation and while on the highway suddenly heard a loud almost gun shot sound. we were surrounded by tons of huge 18 wheelers so we assumed something from one of the trucks hit us. as we kept driving, we kept hearing noises so we pulled over and looked around the whole car but didn't find anything, until the passenger looked up and saw that the sun roof was shattered. luckily the inside of our sunroof has tiny, so it was kind of staying together. since we were on the road, far from home my dad found some clear tape and taped both sides of the roof, so that the glass wouldn't fall on them during the drive. luckily it did not rain, or our trip would have been completely ruined. we still have issues with the roof to this day, even though it was replaced when we got home. it leaks

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 buick enclave. the contact stated that after rainy weather, water leaked into the vehicle. as a result, the electrical system became inoperable and a puddle of water accumulated in the front passenger side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions where the technician informed that there was a puddle of water inside the radio system. the contact stated that the technician stated that the sun roof needed to be sealed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure continued to occur and also began to leak into the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer but the failure was unable to be determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle makes a unfamiliar sound in shifting in 3rd and 5th gears. it sounds like the tranny is staining to complete the shift. the noise doesn t happen every time. the noise is annoying and the shift seems a little slower.

While driving engine turned off on 4 separate occasions in the past 2 weeks. never any warning lights or check engine light just engine turns off suddenly.the first time i was driving on a busy city road middle lane at 25-45 m/hr. no power steering or brakes. unable to restart i was able to push into a parking lot and call for help, it was towed to my mechanic who said rollover switch tripped. 2 days later engine turned off again while exiting highway at the same speed but was able to restart in neural after a min stopped, i drove it straight to my mechanic who reset computer and drove it around for 3 days unable to diagnose problem on computer. 2 days later while driving 45 m/hr engine turned off again. i was on a small decline 2 lane busy road and able to restart in neutral position. a few times in the past few weeks vehicle would not start after parked for a few hours but would start in neural eventually after many attempts, 12/24/2016 while driving on a busy 2 lane street in town engine stopped again no power steering or brakes at 20 m/hr. unable to restart and passengers had to get out of my buick and push into nearest parking lot. unable to restart, towed on 12/26/2016 to local buick dealership to be diagnosed by a certified dealership per the suggestion of buick usa. they can not find a problem per computer diagnosis and are trying to tell me there is some water damage behind dash on fuse block that will cost me thousands of dollars to repair but no guarantee that that is the problem i have never had any problems with lights, radio , ac or any other electrical issues that would lead me to believe that the fuse block has water damage..per gm forums there are many issues with ignition switches or ignition control module . could this be the problem . my engine turning off while driving is a real safety concern and how do i resolve this problem. *tr

Takata recall, i have problems with my transmission running hot. there have recalls on buick enclave 2008, but they claim its certain vins. it would not shift into gear like it should when the car is hot and then you get a warning transmission hot engine idle. then the transmission starts to drag, had to pull out of traffic to prevent being ran into. then i would shift into gear real hard and jerk. the vehicle has a bad roll back. *tr

At 90k miles vehicle had check engine light along with warning for stabilitrak and traction control. later that day the vehicle shook and stalled at a red light. the buick dealer identified timinig chain and timing actuator as issues. these parts were replaced under an extended warranty that we purchased. at 104k miles the check engine light is on again; the dealer says it is the same timing chain that needs to be replace. but this gm nor the dealer can explain why the timing chain failed after only 14k miles of use. timing chain appears to be an issue on 2008 enclave even though gm has refused to cover them. also it appears the replacement parts are not any better.

Takata recall power steering pump is bad and all it does it hum

Check engine light came on at 70000 miles. brought into dealer and told stretched timing chain. although gm has an extended warranty on many of these engines in the enclave, i was told that mine was not a part of the qualified batch for the extended warranty and that all costs would be out of pocket. i am currently stuck with a vehicle that needs over $3500 in repairs on a known issue for this engine. the vehicle will not pass needed emissions testing and is as such undrivable.

The power steering on my vehicle has been failing more frequently to the point i'm afraid to drive it. i am a polio survivor and depend on the full function of my right arm @ all times. since purchasing the 2008 enclave in june 2019, the power steering has begun failing every time i use the vehicle. the worst failure was on the freeway @ 80 mph while returning home to idaho, from the death of my father in tuscon. the steering failed while i was negotiating a curve. i was able to pull out of the curve @ the last minute. it scared me half to death! over the last few months, the steering has become more impossible to manage, which has caused the rotator cuff of my right arm to become exceedingly more painful. the power steering pump has been an on going issue with these cars to the point of the pump being redesigned by gmc. i feel this issue is a serious safety hazard and warrants a recall. sincerely, c.a. edmunds, rn (retired)

The engine blew out today. caught fire. scared the living daylights out of my daughter. the car made a jerking motion and noise while on the hwy. then flames were shooting out....pulled it over immediately and turned off. it was smoking. the police officer said the lower part of the engine blew out ...it literally was missing pieces of metal.

Left my house it was fine. i stopped and turned it off and waited for my family member to come out of an appt. i tried to start the vehicle and wouldn't turn over and only clicked like the battery was dead,it also wouldn't let me remove the key. then i got a jump start and it started right up. after i was home i tried starting again and it did. i just don't trust it now.

The passenger airbag off light come on for no reason while there is a passenger seated. we replace the seatbelt and seat belt sensor. the next code says to replace the seat sensor itself. that's a $1000 repair. and that does not ensure that the airbag will deploy. the seat belt replacement was supposed to fix the issue. based on the codes. will the airbag deploy in the event of an accident? we do not know. this occurs both when the vehicle is stationary and/or moving.

The "service air bag" light is on in my 2008 buick enclave. i had noticed that at first, it would go on and off if i was sitting in the seat and someone else was driving. i assumed it was because it thought i was a child sitting in the front seat, as i am a 30 year old female who barely weighs 100 lbs. the light is now constantly on.

I have own this car for 1 year. shortly after purchasing it i started to notice that every once in a while the steering wheel would lock up making very difficult to turn but it wouldn’t do it all the time. it seems to get worse the longer the car is running. it is now doing it pretty regularly and has caused some pretty bad scares when on an off ramp etc. there was a recall on this very problem but it says my car/vin is not included. i would like to find out why?

The lift gate will go about half way up and then shuts back down every time you try to open it.

The power steering fails on turns with no warning. from what i read this is common on buick enclaves. i was almost in an accident from the power steering failure. once i was on a 55 mph highway changing lanes when it failed, the rest are usually when turning. my mechanic said the power steering pump needs replacement. *tr

The a/c was working intermittently until it didn’t at all. i had recharged it, simple stuff first. again, worked intermittently. finally, had it looked at for leaks, compressor, etc. the mechanic found 2 aluminum pieces that crossed (original vehicle design) and had worn a giant whole into each other. hence, my leak! i feel this is an buick issues. and would like a response. thank you

Steering makes a clicking noise when turning the wheel. the vehicle makes a clunking noise when hitting minor bumps in the road and intermittently the steering wheel shakes at highway speeds. the vehicle has a rattling noise when first started and recently the abs/traction control service light comes on when first started. also the vehicle has decreased horsepower and the mileage lcd screen has been acting up and not always showing the prndl and also the transmission acts up when shifting into 3 and 6 gear

Black mold found in vehicle, rain leaked thru sunroof, found floor boards soaked in water, mold and moisture present on the dash, seats, air conditioning vents, and all over the interior. back door liftgate doesn't work. was not informed by seller of health dangers of this vehicle, nor did he inform us that it had been wrecked before.

Air bags light stays on rear wiper stop working

At 125,000 miles the timing chain it's going out.

While the vehicle is stationary, with the shift lever in the park position, the key cannot be removed from the ignition switch on an intermittent basis. the engine shuts off, and the key turns toward the off position but the instrument panel remains lighted and the key will not turn to the off position so that it may be removed. not a good anti-theft device for certain! the shift lever can be moved when the "stuck key" issue is going on and the vehicle will roll down any incline large or small if the shift lever moved from park. i have heard of "stuck key" issues with many other gm vehicles and am wondering if a recall will be issued. i called a local gm dealership and the service department had no information regarding any recall for the "stuck key" issue regarding my vehicle.

2008 intermittently and unexpectedly shuts off while driving. no matter the speed. sometimes 30mph on the street, sometimes 70mph on the expressway. sometimes it starts right back up, sometimes it doesnt. no one seems to know why. cars cost too much to be playing guess the problem!! take to dealer at $100. a visit for them to guess and ultimately not fix the problem. because a week later the vehicle is doing the exact same thing you took it in for. i just wish someone new what the real problem was. very disappointed in gm. this vehicle has had so many problems, but it's supposed to be low end luxury. it's dangerous and i guess people have to start dying and a class action lawsuit against gm will happen before anything is done.

While driving 60 mph on the interstate in bumper to bumper traffic, my car went into limp mode. rpms were high and i had to pull over from the fast lane with tractor-trailers driving around me after researching the issue, it seems this has been seen in alot of cars. this is a dangerous defect that needs to be resolved. i hope no one dies to make the manufacturer resolve this issue. the mechanic said this was a known issue with this vehicle. recommended a transmission replacement. in fact, there were two other buick/gm cars with the same issue waiting to be worked on. the codes were p0776, p0796 and p0700.

Service airbags just started illuminating today. from the research i have been seeing. it's because the wiring harness under passenger seat gets pinch. also the sun roof is leaking through the air bag area on the driver side to the left of the windshield while sitting inside the car....

I have had continuous problems over the last year with the stabilitrack system going off and it telling me to service stabilitrack. however, now my transmission is going out and i have a car that i owe way too much for and can't afford to get the transmission fixed. on top of the transmission my ignition only works part of the time. there is no point in replacing the ignition if the transmission is gone. i have already replaced the motor on the windshield wipers but apparently the previous owner had the motor replaced during the recall so i had to pay out of pocket for that. not to mention spending over $200 just to get my headlight bulb replaced at a shop because its not simple enough to just take the cover off and replace the bulb. this car has been nothing but a money pit. the transmission has been acting a little strange like occasionally not wanting to shift one day and then being fine the next. the other day i was driving and it wouldn't shift, rev"d up to 4000 rpm and wouldn't go over 40 mph. i'm at the point where i can not afford to continue to pay full coverage insurance plus my car payment on a car i cannot drive.

The car was spitting d sputter and overheating on the main hightway... engine light started flashing a d it showed misfires on cylinders 2,4,6.... the problem is on going and has had my 2 year old and myself sitting on the side of the road in 110 degree heat index waiting on a tow truck!. we were driving straight down the main highway. then the accelerator would be floored but the vehicle wouldnt move at all. thus i couldnt cross the last main highway to get home. it said service stabiltract/ traction control, with wngine light flashing... still isnt fixed

Wave plate failure at 80 mph (legal speed in sd). fortunately no accident or injuries - it could have been a lot worse! tow truck driver said this is a common gm transmission issue. apparently a known defect as gm issued special coverage for the vehicle to 120,000 miles or 10 years. this vehicle is at 11 years, 2 months, but only 55,128 miles. most definitely a safety issue and widespread enough that these vehicles should be recalled.

We where driving the other day, lost all power to dash cluster. found water in fuses under glove box on passenger side. dried out and got power back; but not abs light is on and if it goes off we lose all brakes. the traction control and stabilitrak say service and we lost our back up camera as well.

This suv is the devil it self. is giving me all kind of problem right now it have a limp mode and i have no idea what to do the transmission is not working in any gear. the soft codes said p0171, p 0174, p 0420, p 0300 is crazy. i have change the alternador, the purge valve, the valve canister on top of the gas tank and the other sensor that tell you about the fumes of the tank went filling. i also change the pcv valve all the breathers hoses in the intake housing , i change the troutle body, the spark plugs, the coils, the intake gaskets, the oxigents sensors,the batery poles. and this suv still giving me problems now it went to a transmission limp mode and is not coming out not even if you erase the codes and all fuses are good.

Oil pressure light came on first, then heard loud tapping noise and check engine light came on. pulled over checked the oil (fresh oil change the day before) it was still full. got the vehicle home and had the codes pulled. the dreaded timing chain codes of p0008 and p0017 at 128,000 miles on the car. most shops that i called won't even touch this because of the extensive repair. that leaves the stealership at the price of $3000 and that is if nothing else was damaged. why were the 2008's left out of the buick timing chain recall when it has the same 3.6l engine? this is a known problem. i will never buy another buick. this happened last year (06/2018), but i knew it would be a costly repair, so the car sat until now.

Sunroof water leak. when it rains water pours from all parts of the roof onto the interior of the car. from falling water to water running down through the walls of every part of the car. it has started to cause electrical problems with the vehicle and also i have found mold under the carpet where the water accumulates. it is usually 1 to 2 inches of water on the floor boards after raining. causing mold, rust and mildew. this happens whenever it rains, a little or alot. this may be causing unhealth iisues. it would be smart for buick to fix these issues now before medical bills are involved.

My tailgate opens on it's own with no buttons being pressed when the car is parked. also the tailgate does not sense if something is blocking it from closing it will just try and close on the item or the person

I was driving 70 mph on i-80 and heard a loud popping sound, like a balloon popping but louder. the kids noticed that the moonroof was shattered. we took pictures and there is no point of impact. it doesn’t appear anything hit the vehicle, and no vehicles were close enough to us to have had any impact. the glass made a lot of cracklings sounds and pieces started to fly off of the car before we could safely exit the interstate. we stopped at a gas station and decided we had no choice but to get back on the road and find a walmart to get supplies to cover the moonroof. after getting back on the interstate the glass started making the crackling noise and glass flew off in large chunks. we were again forced to exit and remove all of the glass from the frame.

My vehicle randomly opens the lift gate when it is in park. this happens both when the car is running as well as when it is not. i came out of the bank and my tailgate was open. i turned it off at the switch inside the car. it still attempts to open when i am in park. i have to lock all the doors to keep it closed.

The transmission is in limp mode and is not responding. i call the manufacture low jack security system and they said i need to buy the insurance before they can unlock the vehicle. i think they playing with the computer of my vehicle. my car was running okay. no i can't use this car anymore!

Check air bag monitor keeps coming on

While driving and making a turn the power steering failed to function. took the car to a mechanic and he replaced the rack and pinion and pump. the problem continues . power steering works when accelerating and stepping on the gas. when you take your foot off the gas or are stopped power steering does not work. when making a turn at an intersection the power steering goes off and it is difficult to complete the turn. i read on line that other 2008 buick enclaves have the same problem.

Front passenger seat air bag warning works on and off while driving or sitting in traffic when someone is sitting in the seat

I bought this vehicle july of 2017 probably about 6 months driving my radio makes a loud static noise and then no sound not even blinker sounds. i get in it later that day crank it it's fine. then begin to have intermittent cranking issues crank it nothing everything on the dash blacks out nothing nothing happens turn the key back turn it back over it cranks that still seems to be a problem it still does that. then a few months later my liftgate just opens by itself that has happened on several occasions i just been wake up in the morning the and the liftgate is open. one morning my husband wakes up to go to work and goes outside my car has actually remote start itself i was just sitting in the yard running like somebody remote started it but no one was up to do that. at night when i go to bed i don't lock my vehicle because i'm afraid it may be auto started the next morning when i get up and now my check engine light is on with my service traction control and service stabilitrak light the engine is giving the code for injectors 2 4 and 6. p204 202 206. these lights will randomly come on and go off and when their own the vehicle won't start bog down and try to cut off or cut off it doesn't want to stay running came to a red light three days ago those lights come on in the middle of pulling off from a red light it was green so i was pulling away car just shuts off put it put it in park crank it up drives right off.

My service stabilty track keeps coming in and off and it’s like the car just wants to stop as i’m driving on a major highway. also, my check engine light is now on and staying on and seems to be with the transmission. the car will not go over 20/25 mph and the rpms are going up really high with out the car really accelerateing. it’s even worse knowing my children where in the car and it to happen out of no where. i have been in motion with both issues from fine one minute and not the next. i have a pic of what happens with the stabilty track but didn’t get one with power problem due to where and when i was on road to dangerous. service stabilty track happened 08/28/2018 and the power trans problem happened 09/01/2018 and is still a problem not able to drive vehicle. will try a pic and upload later if possible. was driving on hwy 20 in nebraska on both occurrences coming home from work on 08/28/2018 and headed down same hwy to go camping with my children on 09/01/2018 with power team problem that is still happening not driving vehicle now.

Power steering pump failure. at low speeds wheel becomes almost impossible to turn. this has caused several near accidents. dealer quoted almost $1600 to replace. online research shows this is a common problem for this vehicle. i have already had the steering worked on once before after having difficulty turning the wheel. as it is over 3 years since then, i am told the cost is due from me in full.

This car is a mess. it didn't pass the state emission test sticker. the traction control system in conjunction with the stability track control system. are bringing up a check engine light with error code p0174 and p0171. every time those system showed up in the instrument panel i got a follow up check engine light. i don't know what the problem is and two gmc buick dealer have said different fix method. very back for me. they want to fix different problems. they don't know what the real problem is. they are guessing.

Rear liftgate opens randomly, liftgate failed to stay open and closed while getting things out of back, would then go up and down on its own and was unable to close manually. reviewed complaints and see this was problem with a campaign number of 15v415000 but when we check the vin of our car says there are no recalls.

Transmission failed while in motion at 116,000 miles. began shuddering / slipping while driving uphill. eventually jammed in 2nd gear and will not shift, with check engine light (code p0700). gm will not replace it because it is 6 months past the "extended coverage" of their service bulletin. (10 years / 120,000 miles) . i am now having to pay $3,800 to have certified transmission replace the transmission.

Passenger seat air bag sensor does not work if somebody under 175 lbs is sitting there

The passenger airbag light always says off and the service air bag notice is always on. we took the car in to a dealer several years ago and were told it is not covered under the airbag recall. this is hard to believe; the vehicle has never been in an accident. gm should not risk an important safety issue defect to go ignored.

The sunroof leaked into the side panels resulting in all the electric being ruined to the fuse box. $5,000 worth of damage. the engine now does not start.

At 146,938 miles, the engine has died (pistons have collided with valves at two points and engine has jumped timing). the transmission needs to be replaced for the second time (originally replaced at 56k miles). there was no sign on the dash that there was a problem with either.buick offered no help with this being so unusual for the engine to need to be replaced and the transmission for the second time.

Passenger airbag sensor does not work property. thus, anyone sitting in the front passenger seat may not get an airbag at impact. there is no recall on this, however a lot of posts about it. i can say that the front seat has not been used that much in the car nor by a large individual. $1000+ to replace for a $4000 car is too much. this should be a recall before someone dies.

The rear hatch starts to go up when you press the button but about half-way up it reverses and the control motor pulls it back down-frequently hitting you in the head. initially it was only occasionally but now it is every time we try to raise it.

Went to get out of the vehicle from driver side and the door wouldnt open. you can pull the door handle back but door will not open. door will open from the outside. also, the passenger side air bag notification comes on for a while but then will go off periodically. when you start the vehicle it will say "service air bag" (picture attached).

When attempting to open the rear lift hatch (using either my key fob, the dashboard control button, or the button on the rear lift hatch) while the vehicle is parked, the rear lift hatch rises to near the top. it suddenly starts closing before it goes into a complete lift position. the part that may be defective is unknown. i am concerned that someone could reach in the rear of the enclave to grab items, and the hatch closes in on the person before they can escape.

While driving in the city the rpm's was fluctuating from around 2,000 and 3,000. and also got stuck in 3rd gear. once cleared the code it worked a little, once trying the gears in low the changing in gears was more smooth.

2008 buick enclave (recall# 14030)-failure of the passenger side impact air bags intermittently not working. researched and discovered that general motors llc (gm) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 buick enclave. the air bag indicator remains illuminated intermittently off and on while driving with a passenger in the drivers seat. the airbag sensor will not register any if the person in the passenger seat is not of a certain weight. this is really a dangerous situation given that my teenagers ride in the front passenger seat most times. please have someone contact me immediately to get this resolved. this recall is identical to my 2008 buick but yet not showing for my vin.

2008 buick enclave without accidents nor sunroof or windshield repair or replacement has been experiencing water leakage from visor joints, side curtain panels and under the steering column. my radio amplifier suffered water damage and 2" of water has pooled afoot of my vehicle floor. the issue has been present as of march 2018 and has returned for repair every two months since to date and is there again today. this issue is not able to be rectified nor solved. i have researched and found flooding and water accumulation issues are a known, common and repetitive issue with this make model and year. this will result in electrical and more significant power, and operation problems. a repair, fix compensation and deep cleaning is necessary.

Passenger side view mirror housing is attached to the body of the 2008 buick enclave in a very broad and bubbly manner. this enhances yet another large and dangerous blind spot. this blind spot is activated when a vehicle or pedestrian) approaches from 120-140 degree angle- or right hand side crossing merging into traffic or approaching the front of the vehicle to proceed across to the front end of the vehicle. when i attempt to pullout into traffic with two way passing vehicles and pedestrians, i stop and observe traffic, a car on the left is approaching the buick it disappears into the blind spot where by assuming all clear to proceed to cross lanes of traffic to be stopped in the middle of the street by the surprise of a vehicle at the front corner nose of the vehicle. a near miss luckily if not an accident. if at a 4 way stop at times when the street doesn't line up perpendicularly but slightly askew, a vehicle is invisible until it is near accident. countless times it is the other vehicle that stops short of my oversight due to the blind spot. a repair or fix is necessary!! this issue has been a problem for many years, i just did not know the appropriate venue to voice my concern and issue.

Transmission had an overheat indication on a trip. had the trans fluid replaced, car worked fine for another 1k miles. car would then not shift properly, nor could it be shifted manually, took it in. tech found a wiring connector with bad continuity, fixed that. car good for two months. trans began slipping badly and would only go into three gears, could not drive over 30 mph on the freeway after a 65 mph cruise. transmission required complete replacement at 158k miles. cost $4,285.00. come to find out this known defect has happened to thousands of enclave/acadia/saturn suvs since 2008. some with as little as 20k miles, others up to 200k miles. of course, nothing has been done about this. this is a safety and drivability issue that needs to be recalled and the owners compensated for their repair costs. insane!

The stabilizer system is showing a warning light. saying : the stabilizer system need service. at the same time the tire pressure symbol light come on and the check engine light follow and stays on. showing 3 error codes p0700 - p0174 - p 0171. this is like one error code pull the other. then the next day the light is gone, when you come and start the car and then after several hour the light comes back again.

Loss of power completely during merging into expressways. transmission will not allow vehicle to accelerate.

I am having a problem with the brake light coming on and a chiming alarm. the only way to make the alarm clear is to either turn the engine off or press the emergency brake a little then release it. i am also having problems with the sun roof drain rail overflowing. as i saw in another post, i think water is the issue. this didn't happen with the brakes until water ran down both of the a posts. i saw in another post that others had this problem during rainy travel. is anyone having this problem with enclaves? the sun roof rain rail issue has been ongoing for a long time now. but, the brake warning light issue is new. electrical problems due to water leaks.

This 2008 buick enclave vehicle with this vin# has had probably a hundred or more instances over the past year of the back hatch door lifting to about 2/3 of the way up, then suddenly for no reason it closes automatically by itself. the close button was never pushed. the most recent date this happened was below. persons have had to duck out of the way to avoid being hit, but it actually has hit a person in the head several times. always happens when car is stationary. it is not showing up as a recall on our vin# on the gm recall site or on your website, however i have seen other websites that discuss this particular model and year as having a recall for this same reason.

After a horrable rain, i came to my car, and found the front passenger side was flooded.i followed the water leak and found it was the sunroof, took the car to buick dealership, and found the drain tube was clogged, my warrenty did not cover it so i had to pay $178.00 for the repair. i then looked it up and found there is a known nhtsa item number on the car, it is 10026482. after looking into this i found it is a reoccurring problem, it needs to be fixed-blown out every 6 months. if it is a known problem it should have been fixed a long time ago. i am on a limited income and can not afford $178.00 every 6 months.it is destroying the carpet. i looked on youtube to see what the process is in fixing it and i see so many wires in the path of the water. i think this is a bigger risk factor than a simple leak. we have had this car for 6months now and this is the first problem. i have one family member and one friend that is interested in this car and i will be sure to let them know of the problems that we are begining to have. this car was taken to buick dealership, national city, ca.

The power steering seems to fail at times. it becomes very difficult to turn the wheel after stopping at an intersection or traffic light. it's also difficult to make turns into traffic when i have to quickly merge into the flow of traffic.

The front passenger seat sensor does not turn on the front airbag system if an individual is under 150 lbs. the vehicle has only 125,000 miles and replacing the seat sensor is approximately $1000.

The buick dealer is saying the timing chain(s) is slipping and needs replacement and that the heads and or cams may also require replacement. the vehicle went into the shop because the 2nd and 5th gear was not engaging properly, there is hesitation in the transmission/engine. the vehicle has 94,710 miles. the powertrain warranty is 5 years or 100,000 miles. gm issued an extended warranties of 10 years and 120,000 miles for both transmission clutch wave plate (3/5/r) and for timing chain slippage. so they acknowledge they have these problems with the material used and or engines. my concern is that for the timing chain extended warranty gm skipped the buick enclave 2008 year model and cover only the 2007 & 2009 year models and they do not want to extend the coverage to cover my timing chain replacement. this is not a normal routine service item per their buick enclave user manual. timing chain should be covered under the powertrain warranty. i should not have to pay for replacing the timing chain on a vehicle with under 100,000 miles because gm used poorly manufactured chains. usually metal timing chains last well beyond 100,000 miles. i've never replaced a chain on any of my vehicles past or present. this is a known defect with the gm timing chains which should be covered. if the timing chains breaks it will cause tremendous damage and may cause me to get into a catastrophic accident. the diagnostic codes provided by the dealer are as follows: p0011 intake cmp b1 p0391 exhaust cmp b2 p0366 exhaust cmp b1 chains noisy diag doc 08-06-01-011k repair cost range: $2,577 + tax to $5,231 +tax depending on whether heads and or cams require replacement.

Lift gate stops at upper lift position and starts to close with out notice. if your not paying attention to full operation of lift gate can come down stricking a persons head. seems that automation safey feature would be to stay open !!! not close unexspectedly??

I bought this 2008 buick enclave a year and a half ago with less than 80,000 miles on it, and it's been giving me transmission problems already. i almost got stranded and couldn't go aby faster than 30 mph. it almost cut off on me in the middle of the road. my transmission and engine both would lose power and wouldn't go past first geat. myrpm hand went all the way up to 4 which it normally stays between 1 and 2, and my gas hand went from full, to half, full, and almost empty in a few seconds. engine rides rough and has to take off speed. transmission and engine problems were advised by buick as being a known issue but apparently they haven't stayed true to their name "buick." this is a safety hazard as i could've gotten easily hit with no take off speed as it barely moves. it has happened 5 times with these same issues but dealership kept saying that no codes would pop up to see what's the issue until a week ago, it did it again for about 5th time and i took it to the dealership who advised all kinds of codes were popping up with my engine and transmission. also the writing on my control buttons have worn off and my front suspension needs replaced and my driver seat tracks which are not covered under my warranty. buick nerds to hold true to their name and compensate or replace these detected 2008 buick enclaves. buick is not holding true to their name. i'm very dissatisfied and is my first time being a buick owner. now the dealership is trying to fix these issues, bit i shouldn't have to pay anything .

Purchased used vehicle from dealer feb 2016. noticed vehicle leaks when it rains through the sunroof, top of the windshield area and also from the drivers side floor area, under the dash toward the brake pedal area. i've had my dome lights fill with water, water leaking from the dome light as well as the top windshield area while i drive and stationary. this leaks are consistent whenever it rains, both while driving and while stationary. when this leaking/rain occurs the vehicle runs and idles very rough. the problem has been consistent since the vehicle purchase. when the vehicle was inspected and test driven it was not raining, therefore the leak was undetected prior to purchase. the water contacting the electrical components is a fire safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately.

The air conditioner does not work most of the time. once in a while cold air will come out but the majority of the time it does not work at all. it seems to have started when my car battery died and i had it jumped to start it.

I own a 2008 buick enclave which was parked stationary in my driveway on march 24th 2016. as i exited my home and attempted to unlock my vehicle i was surprised by a cloud of smoke that was released by the front passenger airbag. it had deployed for no apparent reason. damaging the dash, radio, and destroying the windshield glass. i immediately contacted gm service department in which they sent out a tow truck to remove my vehicle from my premises and shipped it to a ed rinke chevrolet service department. their investigator claims that there was a previous crack in the windshield that caused the 12" of standing water damage on my floorboards and in the airbag sensor module. there was no crack... so after being inconvenienced for almost a month, gm claims that the windshield was an aftermarket product and that they've got no responsibility for the deployment or totaled vehicle damages. the truck was returned today apr. 19,2016 very inoperable!

Airbag light on passenger side indicates airbag will not deploy. vehicle has been brought in to several different dealerships to be evaluated, each claiming a different code has been activated, however no fix has been permanent. vehicle had previous recall (2011) on airbag sensor - fix was not permanent. most recent time, dealership claims a sensor in the seat is bad and will require $1200 fix due to its location in the seat??? codes b0074 & b0081 (internal fault in passenger presence module) there is not a time that the airbag engages - still or moving. this has been an issue while was still in warranty and beyond warranty - gm refuses to work with me.

My 2008 buick enclave had the transmission go out at at 135,000 as we were traveling home from my parents house and left us stranded about 60 miles from home. after this happened i looked online and seen that this has been a problem for others as well. now at 148,000 the timing chain is stretched and caused the stabilitrack and traction control warning to come on and off, even though there was nothing wrong with the traction control. this causes the traction control to stop working when it is feburary in minnesota and still have snow and ice.

The driver side inside door handle broke away from the mechanism. in order to exit the vehicle i had to roll down the window and use the exterior door handle. locks, windows, and exterior handle work properly. i drove to work and it worked fine. when i parked and tried to get out it would not work. it happened originally in 10/2014. the dealership told me i had to replace the entire door, which i could not afford, so they "jerry-rigged" it with a screw and charged me $125.00 labor. it has now happened again, and another dealership said i can replace the interior mechanism for about $350. i contacted buick cs regarding the issue, and was told that due to the age of my vehicle they could do nothing. this is a safety issue. in an emergency, i would not be able to exit my vehicle. and as a person with a disability this is a primary concern. on the internet, you can find hundreds of people who have had the same issue with the buick enclave and the gmc acadia. this needs to be investigated for possible recall.

Parked stationary but engine running: 250 pound male had left hand over the top of the door with the window down in 11 degree weather. he was backing himself into the car because he was on crutches so his left hand was using the open front passenger door for support at the top by the window. the window started going up and his pinky caught between the outside window seal and the window. it chopped off the tip of his pinky along with the tip of finger bone. feel the outside black window seal above the front passenger window. it is very paper thin and very sharp like a razor if you were to lightly rub your finger along it. now, imagine the black seal in 11 degree weather. it hardens. maybe because it happened from the outside in we believe the window caught and forced the finger up and the seal shaved it off like a razor slice. a skin graph did not take and his pinky is now a deformed tip on the finger. keep kids (and adults) hands away from the windows--especially in freezing cold weather.

While traveling on a florida interstate at express way speeds, the transmission just quit functioning. i had just gone over the top of a bridge, let up on the throttle, than pressed down again to maintain speed. the engine increased rpm's but i continued to slow down. this was with heavy traffic on my side and behind me. when i found room enough to pull over, i had slowed considerably causing traffic to swerve around me and caused panic braking on their part. buick motor has a notice out saying they will repair at no charge for 10 years, or 120,000 miles. i had 124,276 miles and they have refused to reimburse me. i consider this feature to be a safety issue, as there could have been a very serious accident because i no longer had any control in order to get out of the way. if this were to happen on a multilane express way, and you were in one of the center lanes with heavy traffic, the result could very easily be accident/death. i believe buick should be forced to recall before serious things happen. they should also be forced to pay for those that have already had the work done.

My car has less than 75k miles on it and been maitained very well! the transmission has gone out and i am being told that it will cost 5k dollars to replace due to a wave plate issue. whay has this not been addressed with recall? in addition to that the sterring has a terrible sound coming from it and this is not being diagnosed right. all the buick dealers want to do is charge for a repair instead of really fixing the problem. i would like to know where the transmission comes from so when i have to spend money i do not have on a new transmission i don't have the same issue with shotty crafsmanship! i am not ever buying another buick. i will also encourange all my freinds to steer clear of them!

Steering wheel squeaking and rubbing on something when turning? when i turn from side to side i can feel a slight drag and rubbing/squeaking noise. i was told it is the steering rack. i have been doing research and see complaints of this dating back to 2009. if they know there is a problem with this why have they not done a recall. the repair cost that was quoted is high over one thousand dollars. there is also the the service lights and stallig that resets itself on the buick enclave it happens when vehecil is sitting still the doors lock and unlock and the lights flash and the car engine makes a sound and the service engine light comes on. we have taken it in twice for this and it seems to reset itself because dealer does not find a problem.

The pps module keeps breaking every 1.5 years. this is the passenger presence module in the passenger seat that gives indication to the vehicle as to whether there is a passenger over 100 pounds, and tells the vehicle whether to deploy airbags. since the original purchase, it has broken 3 more times. it was replace twice under warranty, and now it has broken again out of warranty and ritchey cadillac tells me that i have to pay for it. it is over $1000 to fix...every year and half?? the 'service air bag' message comes on, the airbag icon comes on. it breaks so often that i don't trust it at all! clearly this is a passenger safety issue, that is not being properly addressed. they keep replacing the issue with a junk solution.

Under 100k miles, transmission went out. dealership stated, faulty wave washer and snap ring. this caused the vehicle to go into a neutral position at 70 miles/hr. engine revved. lost steering and vehicle would not accelerate. had to coast to the shoulder during heavy traffic. gm stated replacement would cost $4500 for new transmission. declined gm's estimate and went to a different auto shop and rebuilt the transmission. mechanics at the transmission shop stated that gm/buick was well aware of the faulty transmission but they have not recalled these faulty transmissions. auto shop stated the part to fix the transmission only costs $7. didn't want to get a new gm transmission as it may be just as faulty as the current transmission that had the problem. gm should be held accountable and i expect full reimbursement for the payment and emotional distress this problem has caused me.

Driving at interstate speeds with cruise control on, set to 80mph. after hitting a ridge at edge at edge of bridge, the vehicle suddenly shuttered causing vehicle to automatically shut off cruise control and decelerate quickly. i went from going 80mph to 55mph in a short amount of time. after touching the gas to try to maintain speeds, car suddenly shifts into a neutral position pushing engine to red-line, then shift into 5th gear roughly. the vehicle from this point on, had issues shifting into 3rd and 5th gears. this car had absolutely no prior issues with the transmission prior to this date. i had the car serviced and completely checked out by a mechanic for any mechanical issues a few days prior to this trip. i took it to the dealer, who fixed two separate transmission plates and replaced the transmission module. i was guaranteed by the repair shop manager that i would have no further issues with the transmission. little did i know, i should have gotten that conversation in writing. i continued to have hard shifts after the repair, only to be told that's the transmission module sensing how i drove. less than one week later, transmission completely failed, leaving my wife stranded on the side of the road with the vehicle unable to not shift out of 1st gear, forcing me to call a tow truck to bring it to back to the dealership. now they are telling me i have to replaced the entire transmission, all at my cost. after paying for the plates and module to be replaced less than a week prior, now they want to again replaced those parts with a completely new transmission. if i were being followed too closely by another car or semi on the interstate, i would have been rear-ended. if that were the case- there wouldn't be a complaint, but a lawsuit. get this transmission issue fixed. i have read countless stories of the same exact problem.

The transmission suddenly failed. upon taking this to both a gm dealership as well as a transmission specialist it was identified that an internal clip failed resulting in complete transmission damage. it is my opinion, as well as the opinion of both mechanics, that this transmission should not have failed at such low miles. there are many complaints on the internet regarding this same premature failure.

On 7/11/2015 when i opened the lift gate of my vehicle, the gate would not stay open. it slowly started to close. this problem persisted for about 4-5 days. about 6 days later, the gate was working fine. on 7/19/15 i opened the lift gate and was standing underneath it getting my child's stroller out of the back of my suv. i heard a loud pop and the lift gate came crashing down on the top of my head. i was then trapped under the lift gate and struggled to get free (i had the stroller in my arms). i was able to free myself and locate my sunglasses (which were on top of my head when the gate crashed down) about five feet away. at this point, the lift gate was completely closed. i tried opening it again and it came crashing down. currently, the lift gate will not stay open and i am unable to use the gate, and therefore unable to use the interior back area of my car. in terms of injury, i had a bump on my head, frequent headaches, and persistent neck pain.

While i was driving vehicle it failed to accelerate as necessary between the speeds of 35-50 mph. it has continued to do this .i'm sure it is because of the transmission. the transmission has a humming noise for the 1st, 2nd,3rd gears. it (transmission) also gives a slight jerk when putting in reverse gears. i have canvased a couple of transmission shops for information about problem and have been told that this is a common problem with this vehicle and all the other early models ( gmc-acadia, saturn-outlook). it has been expressed that the 3-5-rev waveplate and other possibilities of failure. i have less that 84,000 miles on my vehicle and gm has a 5yr/100,000 mile warranty. gm, i am told is well aware of these failures and has repaired them under the original warranty, i am trying to find out if they have extended this warranty outside of the 5 year limit, especially since i have less than 100,000 miles.

Dec. 2014....wipers would stop with no warning...which would cause me not to see were i was driving rain or snow, at the time, no dealer was able to help due to work loads.....so i had it fix from a tech other than a gm tech..(which some gm tech should not be) anyway.....it was the wiper trans was corroded that's was causing the problem...this is a very unsafe problem to have,....due to not having gm tech work on it i was told they will not reimburse me. not a happy gm owner (over 50 yrs). ..updated 10/15/15 *bf

Airbag service light came on....now when a passenger sits in the seat the light says off. so that now the passenger will not have the airbag infliat if there is a accident...not good. this should be a recall.

I,the driver, wife, mother-in-law were stopped for traffic when we were rear-ended. my vehicle then struck the vehicle ahead of me, that vehicle then struck the vehicle ahead of it. the vehicle that struck me was then rear- ended. my car was totaled. the occupants in my car were transported to emergency room.. i had a broken back, broke ribs, damaged right lung.

Transmission would not shift above gear 2. dealer agrees this is a wave plate issue. both of us initially thought this would be covered under: #14404: special coverage adjustment - transmission clutch wave plate - (mar 3, 2015) but my vin isn't covered. not sure why, and i would like to know why. there are many other 2008 enclave owners complaining that their vins are not covered either for this issue. http://www.enclaveforum.net/index.php?topic=26706.160 it looks like #14404 needs to be extended to additional enclave vins

We have had with the drains from the sun roofs and now we have water under the floor board and i am afraid ther might be mold growing we pulled up the floor board and found the water we have had the drains blew out every months but still there is water we have had the rubber around the sun roof looked at and there is nothing wrong with it.

For about 6 months my radio has been going in and out like it is shorting out or something. at the same time my put seat belt, turn signal, car open anything with sound goes in and out of working with the sound. my radio sometimes worked sometimes doesn't. today was blow out sound and i could not turn the sound down or off. it was like poltergist. thank god it did not happen when i was driving. it scared me half to death. i turned my car off and on again to see if it would go away. i finally called my husband said i cant drive my car with this sound. about 5 minutes later i tried again just to see what would happen now i have no sound for radio, fasten seat belt nothing. not sure if poltergist will be back but this is a real problem. this is not an isolated incident now that i have been on line. buick has a recall on their hands. something is seriously wrong with the enclave electrical

Air bag service light came on and was taken to dealer for service as i already had a letter stating this could happen and if so take it to dealer for repair. after being check out by dealer i was told they could find the problem however my battery check out bad and that could be the problem, so i paid them to replace battery. after battery was replaced the service light went out, until 1/13/15 while driving vehicle home after having it serviced by dealer the air bags service light reappeared and when i took it back to the dealer i was told they would be happy to check it out at my cost which i said not knowing what the cost could add up to i would just continue to drive with the service light on. it is now 5/21/15 and it continues brightly burn. The 2008 buick enclave have a module air bag sensor in the passenger seat that when a passenger sets in the seat the air bag intercator light in center consul lights up letting you know that the air bag is on and working. my air bag module sensor needs replacing. i was told from dealership that the seat would have to be taken out to replace this part which will cost 850.00. people just don't have this kind of money. the buick enclaves especially the 2008 model have had numerous recalls.i feel this is a safety issue and buick should address this issue to insure our safety. if not, there will be those on the road driving without the proper safety they need. i believe this is a part that was cheap made and buick knows it and they should take responsibility to ensure the customers safety. will you please review this case. i am one that is driving around with this issue. *tr

In 2014 our enclave began having a popping noise in the audio system. all sounds, radio, dvd, turn signals, warning chimes, stopped working. after the vehicle sat for a time the audio would work again. it happened several times with the last time occurring may 5, 2015. on may 5, 2015 the audio started making a loud, ear piercing popping noise which almost caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. my two young children were also in the vehicle right next to the rear speakers. the only way to stop the noise was to pull the vehicle to the side of a busy highway, turn the vehicle off and open the driver door. (to turn the power to the radio off) the audio has not returned this time. this is happening to most 2008 enclaves at around 70-75k miles. buick refuses to assist as usual. without the audio system working, all warning chimes are silent. check engine, seat belt, tire pressure, airbag, rear park assist. this is a huge safety issue!

2008 buick enclave. consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for vehicle transmission repairs. *smd the consumer stated gm denied her request for financial support. in spetember 2014, the transmission was replaced due to a wave plate defect. the consumer received a letter from gm stating they would offer full reimbursement for vehicles that had the repair if they were less than 10 years old or had less than 120,000 miles at the time of the repair. the consumer was denied, because her vehicle had a 122,000 miles by the time she was able to afford the repair. *jb

I have an 08' enclave and i live in wisconsin, today i started my vehicle and proceeded to drive and about 2-3 minutes into the ride, the vehicle rapidly began to slow down and the vehicle began to jerk. the check engine light and the stability-track light both came on during the jerking and slowing down of my vehicle. the dic strolls the following message "reduce engine power and service engine." i drove my vehicle all the way home and the entire time i was unable to drive no more than 20 miles per hour even though my foot was completely down on the gas pedal. this is my only transportation and im hoping that there is a recall for this issue because i googled the problems with my vehicle and apparently im not the only one with this problem. *tr

Power lift gate opening and closing on it's own, while vehicle is off, on but parked, and while driving down the road. water leaks from sunroof causing the water to drain throughout the whole inside of the vehicle. *tr

I purchased my vehicle january 2014. since then i have had major issues with it leaking when it rains,. water enters the sunroof and drips throughout the vehicles overhead as well as soaks the passenger side carpet. water drips from the visor, the overhead lights (which could result in an electrical fire) in the front middle and back of the vehicle it seeps through the seat belt height adjusters and the area where the side airbags deploy (which could cause deploy issues). the problem has gotten so bad my vehicle is starting to smell like mold and i am afraid that after a year of this problem mold has grown under the carpet as well as in the overhead foam. my biggest concern is if my child is exposed to this for an extended period of time it will flair up his asthma. a child with asthma is very sensitive to mold and mildew and he is very sensitive as well as has allergies to mold. additionally, when it rains my exhaust smokes and car putts as if water has gotten into the engine/exhaust, the check engine light has come on several times while traveling and no one can seem to find the issue, the check airbag light came on a couple of months after the purchase, and my steering wheel tightens up when i turn and i have already had that taken care of once. as i was driving home today the emergency brake light came on and dinged all the way home. i believe there are now electrical issues with the vehicle due to the leaks and may cause a malfunction or fire. *tr

Was driving on i-35 almost to wichita ks, about 9 miles out, low oil pressure light came on and binging alarm for me to stop engine, had grandkids with me, and it was dark on highway, pulled over and turned off engine, waited for about 10 mins, made it to a hotel in wichita, it was about 1 am sunday morning. had a mechanic look at the oil pan and check the oil, said when i get home to have it checked out. noticed that car began to make a shaking or shutter noise upon acceleration, made it back to home, took car to buick dealer on 3/26/15 buick dealer said it might be something in the transmission after they test drove it, quoted me a $4000 repair price, i just paid the $123.12 for the diagnosis, dealer said that if not repaired i might lose my 3rd, or reverse gear. on friday 4/11/15 i received a letter from gm about a possible broken/cracked wave plate on 2008 enclave which stated that i might lose my 3rd , 5th or reverse. since it was the same wording as what the dealer told me, on saturday 4/12/15 i took my buick back to the dealer, because of the mileage requirement in the letter, dropped it off 04/15/15 and . on 4/16/15 dealer informs me that this is not my issue, they want to replace my transmission at about $4,000. i am just leary because i received the letter after they had informed me that i might lose my 3rd/reverse gear, but now they telling me that this is not my issue and i will have to pay to have my car fixed. so i have to pay $520.00 for them looking at my wave plate, and putting my enclave back together. after seeing so many other enclave owners on this site, i just decided to add my own so others owners can be informed of the ongoing issue with the 2008 buick enclave. i love my car, i want her fixed. *tr

Was driving and the vehicle just dropped speed,motor revved. the car continued to lose speed, pulled to the side of the road had to have it towed in to a shop. mechanic informed me the wave plate was bad and that it was/is a really common problem. dealership informed me gm knows its bad but no recall. got a letter in the mail on 4/2/2015 saying they would reimburse me if my mileage was l20000 or less. nice that they get to choose which ones they fix. waited till now to report thinking sense so many are bad gm might do something. hope this problem doesn't hurt anyone. *tr

It was a rainy day and my passenger side floor was soaking wet and there was water marks on the above upholstery. it took days to get it out and the dealership says it was bought as is. i have been researching online and there should be a recall for this because several people have complaints on this same issue. *tr

In 2012, my 2008 buick enclave was recalled due to a malfunction of the airbag. the recall number was #10085. the vehicle was repaired by coleman buick in lawrenceville, nj in 2012 and the cost of the repairs was covered under the recall. on feb 10, 2015, i took the vehicle to coleman buick because the passenger side airbag was not performing properly again. the dealer indicated the "passenger presence module" was not functioning correctly and that it would need to be replaced at the cost of over $875. i do not feel this is fair or proper since the vehicle has previously been recalled for air bag issues and because gm is currently recalling thousands of vehicles for known airbag defects. *tr

The vehicle repeatedly stalls at random times. this includes at high speed, in the middle of the eisenhower tunnel on i-70, to driving down the street. repeated visits to the dealership reveal no "codes" so it continues to be ignored. my wife will not drive it anymore so i do. the dealership says "trade it in" but we feel like we would be passing a coffin onto another family. my family has been killed nearly twice from stalling in tunnel and high traffic. *tr

While braking aggressively during heavy rain, rainwater poured from the passenger side headliner onto the dash. rainwater has been leaking into the car for the past several weeks. this issue was apparently repaired three (3) prior times in 2008, but has recurred. general motors has only offered me one free hour of diagnosis time. this is a major safety issue regarding driver visibility, distracting the driver and could effect multiple electrical systems in the vehicles dash due to the introduction of rainwater. the second issue is the vehicle's transmission is failing. transmission loses power while shifting from 3rd to 4th gear, then abruptly jerks into gear. the car has less than 64,000 miles. *tr

Driving on the highway rpm's were going up but car was hardly moving. we could have been hit! after checking on-line this seems to be a problem for the 2008 enclave. why has there not been a recall? i believe no-one wants to take responsibility for such a costly problem but someone is going to get hurt.....we were on the highway. i will not stop here....i am hoping someone will actually read and respond to me. *tr

The engine light came on... (4) recalls for other malfunctions..., the current re-call - 10/2014 on side air bags, that was taken care of. the engine light continued to stay on ...the dealership found the problem... the gas tank...a brand new gas tank was needed. how can that be, the car is ( 6 ) years - six . the mileage ( 64,000 ).. record shows consistent car services, good care from the initial purchase. the dealership states the cost would be $505.00. "the car could at any time stop receiving gas into the tank!!!.... the car at any time, could just stop!!!, due to a defected gas tank; assembled at a gm plant, 2008 to me, this is their/ gm responsibility. this is definitely a **safety road issue, not caused by me.... they did some sort of test; automobile was not even at the service area, when the so-called test was administered; it was then declared that the charge is mind.... i spoke to a gmbuick rep, in detroit . mi., he sent me to dealership, dealership determines who pays. gm transfers its responsibility to a dealership... please advise.... gm lacks the ability to interact with customer; no options, no customer service, no consideration, no satisfaction was given, especially; no manners... dealership did not make the car; nor equipment...please . *js

The tailgate/liftgate is broken for the second time. the first time it was replaced was when it had only 40,403 miles. now, it is broken again at 77,000. the hatch will go up automatically, but doesn't hold so it comes crashing down. this is very dangerous! am i to expect that every 30,000-40,000 it needs to be replaced? *tr

The car started to have trouble shifting into gears, especially overdrive. then it wouldn't go into reverse. the 3-5 reverse waved plate broken, replaced 3-5 reverse housing, replace 3-5r piston and dam assembly, replace all seals and gaskets, replace front cover piston spring assembly, and transmission fluid filter.......$3,173 later i was out the door not happy. i was out of town on vacation at the time! my car only had 74,074 miles on it. *tr

While on the highway on a trip, the transmission of my 2008 buick enclave started skipping/shifting roughly when accelerating/upshifting. soon the transmission would not go faster than 30 miles an hour and seemed stuck in 2nd gear. i exited the highway as soon as i was able to. by then, it could not go on reverse either. at the repair shop, the transmission was disassembled, with a broken wave plate replaced and complete overhaul. a very scary experience! please help look into this safety hazard. your help is so very much appreciated. *tr

The front passenger service airbag warning light comes on intermittently. the problem was traced to a faulty passenger presence system assembly. the cost of repair is estimated at about $650. i would deeply appreciate your investigating this matter. thank you so much. *tr

Check engine/emissions control light came on as we were driving. stopped about a half hour later to put gas in, as we were stopped at a stop light the car didn't want to go (no power, no shift). as we were leaving the station, the car would not go. it would not shift into 3rd year, rpms were at 4000 at only 40mph. drove home and later drove it to the mechanic. drove fine then, but the rpm gauge was fluctuating. mechanic read the codes as 716 and 717. took it to a transmission specialist and it did the same thing, wouldn't shift. trans mechanic states its the clutch wave plate that probably broke and magnetic pieces attached to the sensor causing it to go into a limp mode. approximate cost to replace the $20 part (wave plate) will be in the upper $2000! ridiculous. i'm losing my faith in gm vehicles. per a web search, this is a common problem with enclave, acadia, outlook and traverse. something needs to be done about this! *tr

Friday dec 26th at 4:30 pm i was accelerating to merge into rush hour traffic on i-35 when i had a catastrophic transmission failure. there were no alarms, lights, noises, smells or anything else to alert me to the fact that my vehicle was about to fail. as i merged my rpm's suddenly went past 5000 and my 2008 enclave began to decelerate. by the grace of god there was no loss of life, mine or the other drivers around me, as my vehicle lost power. i was surprised to learn that the situation described above is not an isolated event. like so many others before me my vehicle (at 80,000 miles) was diagnosed with wave plate failure (p0776). i have called gm and requested that they pay for the repair since it's due to a faulty part, but their response is to deny, deny, deny. the manager i spoke to stated that there hasn't been a recall so gm is not obligated to do anything about the problem. the most distressing part of this situation is not the $3500.00 i'll be paying after gm's "assistance". it is the fact that i was never notified of the high failure rate of the gm wave plate. i should have been given a chance to fix it before i was put in such a dangerous situation. this transmission problem is like a ticking time bomb. thankfully, the "bomb" going off in my enclave didn't result in any casualties, but is that what it's going to take to get a recall? i hope that nhtsa does something about this issue before someone is killed. *js

Just bought the car on thursday. today is sunday and we had a light rain. i had to run to the store and noticed water running all over the seats and the dash. the car is leaking all over. called the dealer and they said to bring it in tomorrow morning. *tr

During acceleration on a busy highway, car lurched and lost power. evasive action was taken to avoid collision with big rig trucks hauling large hay loads. check engine light came on.told by shop the vehicle needed a new transmission. gear 3,5 and reverse were affected by automatic transmission clutch failure. vehicle only had 72500 miles on it. have several other owners who stated their transmissions in like vehicles also failed well short of 100,000 miles. danger to driver and passengers due to sudden lurch and loss of power. *tr

When accelerating i was just coasting. i put it in park and then back in drive and went about a block then lost acceleration again. i had the car towed to the dealership. i was told the 3-5 clutch failed. some metal pieces in the transmission come loose. when the car cools down they settle and the gear may work. as it warms up they get in the way again and the gears stick. i was told i needed a new transmission or a rebuilt one. i was told they would be putting in another 2008 transmission but that the part that failed had been corrected. i asked them to contact gm to see if they would cover the cost but they would only cover half of the cost. i am thankful for that but i feel this should not have happened to a 2008 car with 96,000 miles on it. i had been on the expressway the day prior to this happening and the very next time i drove the car this happened. it could have resulted in an accident. so i was without my car for eight days. *tr

At approximately 67,000 miles, the rpms in my 2008 buick enclave started going wacky and i could not accelerate when i pressed the gas pedal. it felt like transmission problems, so i took my enclave to the dealership immediately. turned out the 35r wave plate was broken -- debris throughout transmission -- and $2700 later they returned my enclave to me with a repaired/rebuilt transmission. i was extremely fortunate i was not rear-ended when my car lost all power as i had to literally limp my enclave into the dealership. after researching this, i found that this transmission issue is extremely widespread among owners of the 2008 buick enclave, but neither nhtsa nor gm is moving on investigating and solving this problem. all parties seem to be kicking the can down the road until someone gets seriously injured and then maybe something will happen. issue a recall now before it is too late !!! *tr

2008 enclave developed a clunking noise when turning a slow speeds. took to dealer who says it needs a new rack and struts. car had been totally serviced in july with no issues seen. i have seen many reports of these parts failing on this model year. *tr

Purchased vehicle end of feb 2014. problems started right away. 3-13-14 replaced front struts, complained about trans shifts and heater motor working part time. dealer said they could not duplicate. 4-8-14 replaced blower motor and pigtail. 6-5-14 replaced ac evaporator old one was shot. 7-5-14 replaced transmission,& water pump, & steering gear pinion shaft seal. now we currently have clear coat pealing and water coming in on the drivers side floor. *tr

On passenger side, air bag sensor does not detect a passenger sitting in the seat so indicator light always says "off" and will turn on sometimes, but most times not turn on at all. we were concerned that in a crash, the passenger air bag would not deploy as it thinks no one is seated there. we took the car to berglund chevrolet for repair. they had to replace the sensor and passenger side seat cushion to resolve the problem and it cost in excess of $700. this should have been a recall as i have read on this website that others had similar problems with their airbag. this is a follow up to our earlier complaint @10583156. *tr

Car was not accelerating properly at low speeds and the transmission seemed to be slipping when depressing the accelerator to accelerate at highway speeds. we took it to the dealer and they mentioned that 3-5-r clutch had failed. the car only has about 85000 miles. we feel this is a safety issue based on research that indicates there is an unusually high number of failures of this part, which can cause sudden decelerations, not enough power to accelerate, or failure of the transmission to engage when in "park" causing cars to roll. (our car had issues with acceleration.) we feel lucky we did not have a major incident. gm has not acknowledged they have a wider problem and so far has refused to cover the total cost of repair. *tr

My family and i were on our way back to wisconsin from a trip to florida on saturday, august 16, 2014. my husband had exited the interstate and was pulling into a parking space at a fast food restaurant. the space was on a slight incline. as he pulled into the space, the enclave started to roll backward. i checked the position of the gearshift thinking that he had accidentally shifted into neutral but found that the vehicle was still in drive. the engine revved when he pressed the accelerator but the car continued to roll backward. the only gear the would work was park. we had the vehicle towed to the local buick gmc cadillac dealer. on monday, august 18, a service technician called to let us know that the 35r wave plate had failed and the 35r housing was also damaged and that metal debris had been found throughout the unit. the repair took about two days and cost $3589.49. thankfully we were not on the interstate when the failure occurred. had we remained on the interstate another mile and suddenly not been able to keep the vehicle moving forward while the traffic around us moved at expressway speeds, we could have had a serious accident that resulted in terrible injury or fatality. i wrote a letter to buick requesting reimbursement of cost of the refund and expense we incurred due to having to wait to have the vehicle repaired. i also requested that they issue a recall for the wave plate failure due to the severe danger that the failure creates. finally, i mentioned information i found on the internet stating that this failure is common on the enclave and its sister vehicles. they refused to reimburse me since there was no recall on the vehicle. they also said that the nhtsa, not gm, issues recalls and gave me the phone number to contact the nhtsa to file a complaint. *tr

As the 2008 buick enclave vehicle was slowed to make a right turn into a driveway, it suddenly and unexpectedly became very, very difficult to steer, such that the vehicle almost went off of the road and into a telephone pole. fortunately, the vehicle was going slowly enough that it could be abruptly stopped in the middle of the road and it was not rear-ended. this is a very dangerous condition. when i called general motors customer care, i discovered that this was a known condition for which special coverage #14329 was issued. given how dangerous this condition is that dramatically affects the ability of a driver to steer the vehicle, i am very upset that general motors failed to notify owners of the affected cars that this hazardous condition existed and that general motors failed to issue an emergency vehicle recall. it is urgent that nhtsa requires that general motors issue a recall for this safety defect. pasted below is the dealer notification that was issued to gm service departments on september 16, 2014 by general motors. "#14329: special coverage adjustment - loss of power steering assist - (sep 16, 2014). condition. some 2008-2011 model year (my) buick enclave, 2009-2011 my chevrolet traverse, 2007-2011 my gmc acadia, and 2007-2010 my saturn outlook vehicles may develop a power steering pump wear condition that can cause an intermittent drop of power steering hydraulic pressure that will cause reduced or loss of steering assist. the vehicle may revert to manual steering which requires greater driver effort, particularly at low vehicle speeds." *tr

I was driving at 60 mph on a busy road after i made couple u turns with no problem and then when i tried to get off the road the steering get to hard to turn i think this is danger need to be a safety recall now! *tr

The radio stopped working including all of the safety chimes associated with the vehicle, backup sensors, blinkers, on dash warning lights and chimes. the cd /dvd player emits a high pitched squeal when a cd/dvd is inserted into the player. *tr

The passenger airbag light doesn't come on when a passenger is seated in the passenger seat. after i first noticed the light not being on....sometimes it comes and sometimes it does not come on. *tr

While driving the vehicle just shuts down. the first time it restarted, but on the second occurrence it would not restart. the vehicle has "stalled out" several times while traveling at rates anywhere from 25 mph to 45 mph. we have had it towed to the shop (including the dealer) 3 times and are told nothing is wrong. but the problem happened again today. i see other people are experiencing the same problem. although we have avoided it thus far, it is going to cause an accident. *tr

The timing chain in the engine of this vehicle began to slip at 85,000 miles. this caused the vehicle to drive erratically when the chain slipped. at the same time, the 3rd gear wave plate in the transmission failed causing the car to shift poorly when accelerating. when changing lanes on 9/23/14, the car would not accelerate and to avoid hitting another car i had to steer off the road and i hit a street sign (no damage). *tr

Since i bought my truck i heard a weird noise from the steering wheel i thought well maybe because im not used to it because before i was driving an nissan x-terra 2002. so im a women don't know anything about cars so i said it looks good it was from only one owner before so i think we are good. plus i thought it's not like i'm paying $5,000 for a truck and it's a buick it's consider luxury so i didn't think i was making a bad choice. well the noise it's getting worse i barely made it to my house yesterday because the steering wheel didn't want to work anymore it was raining so hard im 9 months pregnant i made that investment doing a huge sacrifice so me and my child could be protected, feel confident that at the end of the day we are in good hands in that truck. also when i bought this truck a month later the air bag service light was on i did a research it said that this truck had a recall for that so i took it to the buick and they fix it. and now the engine light turns on every now and then. i mean i'm doing everything i should for this vehicle i change oil regularly and i pay for the synthetic oil because they said it was better for this type of brand cars that are luxury for our middle class people. and it's not like i travel in that vehicle i only use it to go to work, groceries, family and friends house honestly i don't use it to travel where i live is a small town so it's not like i have this truck all over the place if you see it's like new it's the cxl it has 2 sunroof, leather seats, dvd player i mean im in love with this truck but c'mon that's not safe for me and my baby. *tr

Car would loose complete power. the first three times it would take a jump off. so i thought it was time to but a battery. i went to get my battery tested first and the mechanic said that the battery was perfectly fine. i drove it to work the next day and it wouldn't start again. everything would work in the car but no fire was getting to the ignition. i had it towed to wiesner auto in huntsville texas and they found that the wires that goes from the starter to the ignition had shorted out. i ended up spending $204.00. this is something that don't just happen. i think this should be looked at. thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion.

My car has been maintained the whole time i've had it. i've had to have replaced the motor for the electric seat, the hinge mounts for the lift gate, the dvd player, and an oil leak fixed. now the 3/5/r wave plate has broken. what's up with the buick enclaves? they cost too much for all these items to break and need replacing. i could understand if the suv was abused and not maintained. if i wanted to have my car in the shop all the time, i would have bought a clunker. why doesn't gmc have a recall for some of these items, especially the transmission 3/5/r wave plate. it isn't safe when it goes out and you are on the road. i have grandchildren that i drive around in this suv. we could be killed. gmc needs to wake up before someone is killed in regards to this problem.

About one month ago when i would get in my vehicle and attempt to back out of my driveway, the power steering wouldn't function for a few seconds. this happened about four times. this weekend on saturday i drove from my house to a gas station, was pulling up to a gas pump and lost my steering again for about 10 seconds. on sunday i was pulling out of a restaurant onto a busy road and lost my steering for fifteen seconds!! after bringing it to the dealer, being charged $50 and being told nothing was wrong, i called buick. this is a serious safety issue and you can clearly see online that more and more people are experiencing this same problem with the same make, model and year vehicle. recall this vehicle before someone is seriously injured! *js

While on an on-ramp to an interstate, my wife was merging into fast moving traffic. as she accelerated and merged into traffic, the vehicle lost the ability to accelerate causing the engine to rev and the vehicle to lose speed. not only was the surprise and shock of the event to include the very high revving alarming, but the vehicle was in an unsafe situation by failing to be able to maintain proper lane position in traffic. my wife managed to coast the vehicle onto the shoulder where she waited in an extremely unsafe position for help. it was found that the transmission was the cause of the issue which required expensive repairs. there was no warning prior to the malfunction and the event could have been much worse (i.e. crossing traffic, train tracks, etc...) at less than 70,000 miles, there shouldn't be spontaneous transmission problems which proved to be common with this vehicle. *tr

Three weeks ago i took my 2008 enclave to o'neal buick gmc to have the air bag recall completed as i had the airbag warning light illuminated in my dash along with the service airbag warning sign. i also noticed when i dropped my vehicle off that the passenger side airbag wasn't working regardless if anyone was sitting there our not even my husband who's 210 pouinds the light stayed off. after looking at the vehicle the technician came to me and advised that the passenger side airbag issue had nothing to do with the recall and that i would need to bring it back and leave it but that they were fixing the recall which had to do with them touching wires under my driver side seat. upon leaving the dealership i expected the passenger seat to be the same as they told me i would need to bring it back. however the airbag warning light and service airbag sign should have gone away and they both were still present. i questioned it and the tech said again it has nothing to do with the recall. upon driving home i noticed that i now had another issue a clicking noise coming from under my driver side seat which was nsot present before they did the work. i dropped my vehicle off to them again on 7/28/14 for the follow-up visit and advised the dealer that based on my paper work from gm the warnign lights i have are a result of the recall. i also alerted them to the clicking noise and they said we will look into it. to my surprise when i picked my vehicle up on 7/29/14 all lights were off and even the passenger side seat was working and of course no charge to me. however, as of today 7/30/14 i still have the clicking noise and it's worst. i hear it all over my front end and now even when i turn my steering wheel to the right. i think something went wrong electrically when they initially tried to do the recall. but it may not be them since someone else is having the same issue. *tr

After 66,000 miles of easy driving, our 2008 buick enclave has a broken wave plate and needs a new transmission! the transmission failure caused two separate dangerous driving situations, one of which could have been fatal. the first event occurred when stopped at an intersection to make a left turn. i had two children in the back seat. when the intersection cleared, i began to make the left turn, but the engine failed to accelerate and merely coasted into the lane of on-coming traffic. the left side of the vehicle and the 7-year-old child sitting there were left exposed to the threat of impact by fast-approaching traffic. after about 2 seconds, the engine accelerated and we were able to leave the intersection moments before on-coming traffic arrived. the second event occurred two days later. traveling 45-50 mph on a local highway, the engine slipped gears and would not shift out of first gear. the check engine light came on. we returned home at slow speed. in the driveway, we put the car in park, then in drive and reverse. it barely moved in either direction. the next day, we were able to drive it to the nearby dealership. it shifted gears on the way, but the warning light stayed on. the dealership informed us that the wave plate is broken and that the transmission must be replaced. we tried contacting gm customer service but received nothing more than a recorded message asking us to hold on the line. we held for over one hour and received no customer service. a review of many website postings reveals a widespread failure of the enclave wave plate and transmission, that gm is fully aware of it and has taken no steps to address it or to ensure of the safety of the thousands of enclave owners and other drivers on the road. failing any accountability by gm, we insist that nhtsa take action on this widespread safety hazard and issue a recall. *tr

Engine lost power...on interstate 90 going 70mph....tried to accelerate and engine revved up but no power to the wheels....i was able to steer the car from the passing lane to right lane then on to shoulder of road and turned off the engine. prior to this event the vehicle's transmission was shifting a great deal as well....car has been towed to a buick dealer in rochester, ny awaiting a call....from the internet readings expect the problem to be the wave plate and transmission to the tune of $4000....i plan to escalate this problem to the highest levels at gm as the failure was very scary being on the nys thruway driving at 70mph *js

While driving our 2008 buick enclave in a parking lot, i attempted to turn into a parking spot and when turning the steering wheel completely locked up on me and i was unable to finish the turn and almost ran into a car. luckily i was going slow enough that i was able to step on the brakes before i hit the car parked in the space next to the one i was trying to park in. after a few seconds the steering started working again. since then every time i am going at a slow rate of speed and make a sharp turn the steering goes out of the car. took it to a local auto repair shop and the diagnosed that the steering pump is faulty. this car only has 67,000 miles on it. as i researched on the internet i saw that this is a very common problem with this make and model of car. there needs to be a recall as the fix for this is over a $1000.00. for a vehicle that costs almost $50,000 brand new this is ridiculous. i should not be taking this car to the shop for steering problems at this low mileage. *tr

Was driving on interstate at 70 mph and as car was trying to climb a hill and transmission shifting gears, it slipped. happened a few times while on interstate. got to location and then went to leave again and backing up car was hesitating. pull forward then needed to go in reverse and car hesitated like someone pressing on and off gas. arrived back at home and took the vehicle in to transmission place (had already researched through weekend on problem and saw alot of problems with 2008 buick enclaves with wave plate (snap ring) going out on transmission. just received call and my buick is another one that has joined the rank of all those who have had this same problem. should not have to have transmission rebuilt/replaced at this stage of vehicle life. i am one year out of my warranty, but under the mileage, however, that doesn't matter! gm needs to do a recall on these transmissions! there is definitely a problem and in light of all the recent news on gm problems, i think we have found another problem that should have been recalled and wasn't. *tr

The "service air bag" light consistently comes on and the dealer states there is nothing to worry about as far as the functioning of the airbags when we were under the bumper to bumper warranty. but, now that i have 108k and still dealing with this issue, along with the recall notices for "some" 2008-2009 and all of 2010-2013 enclaves i requested the dealer take another look at the sensor issue. now, the dealer states that yes there is an issue with the air bag sensor and my air bags will not deploy properly in an accident but that the issue is not what is covered under the current warranty out for the enclaves based on my vin number. either the warranty should cover the cost of repair or the dealer should replace the part that should have been replaced under the bumper to bumper warranty. *js

The steering has been an ongoing event since the second year of having the model. i would lose control of the vehicle when turning left. it would have a mind of its own and not turn. i have run off the road and went into several ditches not being able to turn (tech service date 6/20/12 rack and pinion binding causing stiffness in steering--replaced steering gear and flushed system). we almost had a head on collision when i turned it in again with the same issue demanding something be done. (5/10/13 correction-replace leaking steering gear and failed p/s pump, fill system, bleed sys and verify operation). difficulty steering and loud popping noise while turning left (service date 4/18/14- found internal leak form power steering rack -replaced rack and bleed system and aligned vehicle. drove out of the the dealership and noticed a/c not working and same noise coming from the front while turning left. took it back in (5/5/14-found left front axle shaft to be popping needs to replace at owners expense. the dealership had the vehicle for 20+ days and did not fix. airbag warning light illuminated so i took the vehicle into the dealer (6/29/10--poor connection at sir harness--diagnosed and repaired. received a recall notice in the mail-took vehicle into the dealer (4/18/14--correction completed). airbag warning light illuminated again. took vehicle to the dealership (5/5/14-intermittent short in passenger presence module, checked an rechecked -- corrections needs from passenger presence module at customers expense i was called to picked vehicle up as is after 20+ days. dealership would not fix. *tr

A small grommet failed allowing the sunroof drain located inside the roof to drain water to the interior front drivers side. the leak was not easily detected until a moldy smell developed inside the car, humidity issues, and the radio stopped working. the amplifier located near the leak shorted out and failed. (no fire luckily) after $1700 worth of damages and repairs were made by buick, this design defect was corrected at full cost to the owner. this water leak could have easily caused more problems and possibly even a electrical fire. other enclave owners with similar problems should form a class action suit. gm does not take responsibility for this obvious design flaw even though the buick enclave forums have numerous similar complaints. gm's response was to offer a $2500 credit on a new vehicle purchase. i certainly have no need to ever purchase another problem. *tr

We lost our transmission entering onto a busy interstate! no indicator lights ever came on until it happened. we are not in the habit of beating our vehicles. we are a retired. this i feel is a defect in something. there were many cars coming behind us on the ramp. it was a 2 lane ramp that went to one lane. i got into the right lane when i noticed the problem that the car was jerking and would go intermittently. i sayed right until i could get to a pull over area. full lines of traffic behind us were having to slow down which it looked pretty scarey when i looked in the rear view mirror. my husband and i feel that the way we drive should not make us lose a transmission. also, when we purchased the vehicle we took it in for a steering squeek, loud, and were told nothing was wrong. it still squeeks and worse. we are having that looked at now, again! we do not trust the warning lights on this vehicle. we purchased it new. *tr

About 3 weeks prior i noticed very subtle clunk when changing gears. than out of no were the car started slipping gears at around 40mph. the engine would rev high rpm but it wouldn't kick into 5th gear. only did the it once. within 1 day it slipped every time 5th gear was engaging, within 2 day of that 3rd gear was slipping every time. brought it to aamco and was informed of a r/3/5 wave plate clutch disc tsb with this model transmission. transmission needs a rebuilt to the tune of $2000-2500. pathetic that a $45k vehicle cant even make to 100k miles. who says china makes all the crap? gm must employee the chinese. *tr

Rack and pinion gone bad only 62,000 miles on my suv estimated cost $1200. how can this be happening on a $55,000 plus vehicle. also had to replace the water pump a year ago got stranded on highway. was out of quite a bit of money with towing back to illinois from ohio plus the cost of repairs. i'm at a point where i'm afraid to drive this vehicle out of state in fear of a major breakdown. *tr

My wife and i, with our 2 kids were driving on the highway and the transmission just stopped working. we were stranded on the highway for hours and wound up having to replace the transmission. my wife was driving. good thing there wasnt a lot of traffic on the highway. that was last year. now this whinning noise thats been going on for a while has gotten louder and louder. i looked up online and there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints on this issue with the rack and pinnion. this should be a recall. *js

Transmission has become defective on the vehicle, not sure of the extent because it is currently in the shop. stopped accelerating the cost so far to fix is $625 and that is just to have it taken out and looked at but i am sure it will increase once they find out that the problem is the same issue as a lot of other 2008 buick enclave owners have had. this is a manufacturer issue and needs to have a recall, why should the consumer have to pay for a crappy gm product. *tr

My husband, i, and our 3 young children were driving on i-94 at 70mph when our check engine light started flashing,the vehicle immediately starting shaking and riding extremely rough and the engine died. fortunately we were in the right lane, and there was a wide shoulder for us to pull onto. we had the car towed to a gm dealership, who ran diagnostics and found that there were cylinder misfires on cylinders 1,3 &5. they ran further diagnostics and found that a valve spring broke & dropped into the cylinder. the piston hit the valve, knocked a hole in the piston, and pieces of the valve went through the engine. this vehicle was purchased 5 yrs and 9 months ago (9 months out of the warranty), but only halfway through the 100,000 mile warranty. we were given a gm customer service contact name ([xxx]) and number, but she will neither answer her phone, nor return our numerous messages! we purchased this vehicle brand new and have done all maintenance work on schedule, and have never had a problem with this "luxury" vehicle. we chose this vehicle for all of its safety features, as parents of 3 young children, safety is of our utmost concern. we certainly didn't feel safe 3 hours from home, traveling back from vacation, in the middle of wi completely stranded with a vehicle whose engine died within 5 seconds of the warning lights coming on. as inconvenient as it is that our vehicle is 3 hours from us, we are so thankful this didn't happen in downtown chicago, where a dead vehicle on i-94 could have easily turned into a fatal collision. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

A little after we purchased the vehicle in july 2009, the passenger airbag sensor light would malfunction and indicate that no passenger was sitting in seat even though they were. we moved the seat, we bounced in the seat and the sensor still did not detect passenger. we took the car to dealer several times and were told that there was nothing wrong. we took the car to dealer 04/16/2014 to have the sensor check and they have reprogrammed the sensor, however, this cost us $103.17. dealer service advised us that if the sensor malfunctions again, they would have to replace it, however we would have to pay for labor and part. i just came across this website and decided to file a complaint because upon looking in your complaint database, it seems that other enclave owners have experienced the same thing yet, gm has not recalled the car which is obviously a flaw in their electrical systems. *tt

The power steering failed during a low speed turn, fortunately, there was no other traffic and i was able to complete the turn, the condition is repeating itself and i consider it a safety issue. i have called the dealer service dept twice and they are not returning my call. *tr

Power steering failed out of no-where while turning at an intersection. barely missed side-swiping a police car. only had assist under high rpm's.(i am an adult and have had previous experience driving vehicles with no power steering, my teenage children would have not known what to do or how it feels to lose power steering, so i am thankful that this happened while i was driving the car and not them!) this was an extremely hazardous situation, and no recall? car was completely unsafe to drive. prior to this incident the vehicle made loud whirling noises when the steering wheel was being turned. dealership found steering rack-leaking from end seals, they flushed power steering system and power steering gear, pump, fluids replaced. $1987.49 to make the car safe to drive again. *tr

Driving through intersection roughly 35mph, transmission stalled and vehicle quit moving. luckily all other vehicles stopped and no crash occurred. vehicle had all seven seats full with passengers, 2 adults and 5 children. vehicle had to pushed out of the way to side of road. passengers (adults,children and babies) were stranded in snowy weather and had to be picked up by another vehicle. vehicle has 78,000miles on it with no previous issues with transmission. was told by mechanic that its the 35r wave clutch plate. there is a service bulletin on this vehicle and other models like it such as the acadia. cost will be upwards of $3500 to replace and the vehicle barely has any miles on it! why has this problem not be taken care of....???? it is a huge safety issue. could have easily caused an accident and killed all seven passengers had we have gotten side swiped! this is a large suv multi passenger vehicle...not a two seat car!! *tr

My power steering went out and had to have the rack and pinion replaced completely. the mechanic stated that they are doing 100 of these a month to enclaves, acadias, and traverses. there is currently no recall, but obviously there is a problem that gm is not acknowledging. *tr

A water leak caused by a backup in the drain tubes of my wife's 2008 enclave evidently caused an apparent computer system incident whereby i was locked in the vehicle and could not get out. the key was stuck in ignition (and could not be removed) and manual door locks would not unlock vehicle because there was some kind of safety interlock. evidently there was a short in the electrical system which disabled all methods of exiting or starting vehicle. for some reason the onstar system worked, but onstar had no clue as to how to assist or override the interlock feature. it was winter time, and my wife and our dog were also stranded in very cold weather outside the vehicle. luckily we were assisted by a stranger that used his jumper cables to get the car started. i am concerned that this could happen if the car were submerged or the computer system was somehow compromised it could cause a similar problem. filed problem with buick customer relationship via email but all they wanted to do was to replace the battery. as of this date (4/4/14) we still have the original battery, but they deny any knowledge of the problem. i have emails from buick and their service request number if you would like to verify my claim. i only recently became aware that i could file a complaint with nhtsa in this manner. *tr

Transmission failed 3 weeks out of powertrain warranty and required a rebuild then failed again about a year later. steering pump and cooling motor failed during warranty period and were replaced and then both failed 18 months later (out of warranty) stabilitrac and check engine lights keep turning on after the dealer has repaired it 3 times (turns on about 30 minutes away from dealer each time). nhtsa really needs to take action against buick and gm regarding the 2008 enclave, it is a lemon and people are being ripped off over it and put at serious risk because of its' short comings. *tr

Car lost all forward motion with no warning. diagnosis: transmission gone. i was on a narrow 2 lane roadway and was stuck on a curve. a sitting duck. i was able to pull over to side a bit but still in harms way. no indication of any kind that there was a problem prior to incident. 12 hours prior at 11 pm at night, i was traveling in the tunnel under boston. thank god it didn't go then. the car was 9 months out of dealer 5 year / $100,000 warranty. also had to repair steer gear bushings for $350 (which i see on this site has been a problem for many others). these seem to be defective parts, that put me in danger. *tr

The power steering lines as well as the transmission cooler lines have defective crimps where the rubber portion of the hose mates with the metal portion. this causes leaking power steering and transmission fluid that could potentially leak onto hot exhaust and start a fire. or these lines could burst and cause rapid loss of fluid causing vehicle control issues. *tr

While accelerating from a stop through an intersection, the transmission failed and the vehicle coasted to a stop blocking traffic. after turning the key off and then starting the car, my wife was able to get the car to move at a crawl 15ft at a time. after doing this several times she was able to park the car safely off of the road. we had the vehicle towed to the gm dealership and they diagnosed the problem as a r, 3,5 wave plate failure. the dealership has recommended a new transmission at a cost of $4,400. after some research i have found this to be a common problem with the 6t75 transmission across the entire gm line of vehicles manufactured in late 2007. there is a service bulletin (09-07-30-012b) that addresses this, but no recalls yet. *tr

This is the 8th time+ we've had water enter the car through the closed moon roof. water drips down through the left and right windshield pillars, flows out of the seatbelt tensioners in the 3rd row and through the headliner onto the inside of the windshield. you can hear a wave of water flowing above the headliner,and when woosh it flows when the car dips to one side or the other. there's has to be electrical issues and rust that's being created by this problem. the dealership says the drain is clogged with leafs, from a moon room that's never been opened. this problem is pervasive for this platform (2007-2012/traverse/acadia/outlook/enclave) but i don't see any activity from this organization to address this. the last 2 times this happened braking system failed. warning on the dic: break assist off and then the red critical failure warning and tones came on while driving. so now i have water on the inside of the windshield and failure of the braking system, while i'm driving. the dealership was unable to pull any error codes, but i recorded the event on my cell phone. now this is a ntsb issue. failed brakes and not being able to see out the windshield is a real accident waiting to happen. (note, once the vehicle dried out, the brake failure warning and tones went away.) good thing we live in drought stricken california or we'd probably be dead a long time ago. *tr

I just had my transmission repaired, cost me my savings, and a known issue with many owners. now the power steering is caput. have to waist my precious time and money on taking the car to the shop again. there is already a class action law suite for this exact issue. shame on gmc for producing such poor quality car. *tr

As we were driving around a dark curve on a well traveled country road, the car quit pulling, the battery died, and the car would not shift. we were unable to move the car and were in the dark. there were two adults and two children in the car at the time. we had to call a wrecker to pick up the car and a deputy sheriff to direct traffic and keep from being hit by oncoming traffic. apparently, the shifter broke and the transmission died. both had to be replaced. i found out later that the transmission is the #1 complaint on this particular car. why has a recall not been done? do lives have to be lost before something is done??? *tr

I started from park and shifted to drive. as soon as i gently stepped on the gas to accelerate there was a jolt and loud noise. it shifted rough basically. the check engine light came on immediately. i stopped and looked under the car and hood for any signs of damage or leaking fluid and found none. i then decided to stop at the first auto part store i found to get the code read for the warning light. the codes read p0717, p0716, p0700, p0756. the tech told me that this indicated one of three problems all dealing with the transmission. so i decided to drive home and figure out what to do. as i started to drive it failed to shift from first gear. so i ended up driving slow due to the car being in first gear. then suddenly the car acted as if it was in neutral, not allowing me to go forward or reverse. so i coasted to a stop and had the vehicle get pushed the remaining block. the shop tells me that it is some kind of wave plate and requires a new transmission at close to an estimated $5000. i just bought this car because i recently had a baby and have another child. i work for the military and can't afford this kind of repair 8 months after i had purchased it. since this problem i have done some research and there are hundreds of people with the same problem. which leads me to my question, when is enough? how many does it take to have a recall? my family are now down to one vehicle until i can figure out a way to pay for this repair. *tr

While driving down the freeway at 70 mph the vehicle kicked out of gear. engine was still running. pulled to shoulder of freeway and coasted. once the vehicle slowed to approximately 50 mph it engaged back into gear. was able to drive between 55 and 60 at about 3000 rpm but transmission would not shift to higher or lower gears. took freeway exit and came to stop. upon turning onto adjacent road the vehicle only used 2 gears to reach a speed of 55 mph, shifting from a low gear to a high gear at 4000 rpm. *tr

My wife, with 2 children in the car and one on the way, got stuck in a parking lot, unable to turn the steering wheel. she was pinned in and called me in tears to help. i drove down to the store to help her expecting something simple but found that i could barely turn the wheel. steering fluid was fine and i was able to muscle it into a space. the next day we went back to try and move the car and it seemed fine. i drove it home but when i tried to turn into my road i overshot the turn and found myself sideways across the rd. halfway passed the intersection! this is a dangerous vehicle! i have since been online and found many, many similar stories. the dealer that fixed this said that this effects other buick models as well and informed me that there is a class action suit filed over this problem. this is a $2200 repair and i've read that it just comes back for some people in another 20,000 miles! please look into this... its just a matter of time before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr

Transmission failed while driving. driving home, stopped at a red light, when the light turned green the car wouldn't move. engine was on and would rev, transmission was in drive, but car didn't go. turned off car for a couple minutes, turned back on, car started. tried to drive home, but at about 20 mph all power to the wheels failed and we coasted to a stop. car had to be towed to dealer, $5000 repair bill, 10 months out of warranty. the worst part was that there was no warning about the failure. it was going fine, and then suddenly we had no power to the wheels. fortunately we were going slowly and no one was injured, but if this happened at freeway speeds it could be a major accident. in doing some searching, it seems that many people are having the exact same issue in cars built around 2h 2007. buick needs to address this before someone is injured or killed. *tr

Loss of power steering at low speeds. occurs when turning from stop signs/signals, turning into parking spaces, and other low speed driving. my 2008 enclave is at the dealership today for repairs. they say it may need not only a new power steering pump, but that the entire rack and pinion steering system may need replaced. the service dept. states that there is not enough pressure at low speeds for the power steering to kick in. this is extremely dangerous in intersections. almost traded it in last week to avoid all of the costly repairs, but can't find another vehicle that suits my needs as well as this one (i've owned it for 4 years, and am spoiled). however, this problem seems to be one that gm is fully aware of and should recall since it is obviously a common issue with this model year. although the car is almost paid off, i don't have $3500 laying around and am having to refinance the vehicle to pay for the high cost of repairs to the power steering system. *tr

This car has a whinning noise coming from the steering column that gets louder the more drive it. i have contacted the buick care dept and they indicated it is a known problem but they will not fix it. they had me take my car to the buick place where i purchased the vehicle and they come up with about 1900.00 to fix this and say that it is a known problem with the buick steering that some housing is too close to the steering column and it creates the noise and steering problems and that buick and everyone else is aware of it and that they should issue a recall but do not. in addition i have engine stalling problems where there is lack of power upon sudden acceleration. this happens frequently. *tr

Had warning in the dic. warning was service air bag. i had a bulletin that said vehicles may exhibit wear which could lead to corrosion in the connector terminal pins at the connection between the body main wiring harness and the front driver and passenger side impact air bag. brought vehicle in to bill walsh gm superstore and they found another defective part - they replaced passenger seat presence module at a cost to me of $400.00. wanting to know if there are others who have been sold a car that had defective air bags. i bought this vehicle new and it has never been in an accident, however the air bags became defective over time. *tr

Loss of power steering. power steering pump was replaced at approx. 9000 miles for a failure then under gm warranty. car now has 62500 and dealer advises pump is bad again. will not cover replacement even though it has already been replaced once. this appears to be a known safety defect but gm is not issuing a recall and the replacement pumps are no better than the originals. thank you for your research on the issue and holding gm accountable for the safety issue that many are experiencing. *tr

Attempted to make a right hand turn from a shopping mall driveway into oncoming traffic. the steering system failed and would not allow the driver to turn the steering wheel. power to the system returned within 5-10 seconds, but the vehicle was narrowly avoided by cars traveling the roadway being entered. *tr

After stopping at a stop sign my vehicle would not move... i shifted into neutral then back to drive and it went forward very slowly, then nothing. i coasted off the road (at a very busy intersection) and fortunately 2 policemen stopped to help me. they looked under the hood and could smell something burning. they called the buick dealer for a tow and when i went into the dealer they said they 'thought' it was probably the transmission, but wouldn't know the problem until the trans. was dropped. also that the warranty had expired in july! i was told, two days and $3100.00 later it was a wave plate problem. after searching online i found that this seems to be fairly common for this vehicle and other gm products. i bought this enclave used in jan./2010 with 41,000. miles. it supposedly had rave reviews, and now has terrible ones. that says a lot. no one should have to replace a transmission after 5 yrs., or 66,000 miles, especially in a high end model vehicle that costs this much! *tr

The steering rack & pump were replaced at 23,000 miles under warranty. now, at 70,000 miles, it needs to be replaced again ($1900 repair) for the same reason. the steering whines whenever the wheel is turned, and loses power at any time during low speed. serious safety concern for me and my family! others have had this same issue. needs to be recalled before someone gets killed. *tr

My two children and i were traveling on a highly elevated ramp between major highways in san antonio (281 and 1604) when my car no longer would move into a higher gear and suddenly stalled at its current speed. the engine roared, but the car would not go faster. the traffic behind me almost hit me, as i unexpectedly was not increasing speed as one would typically do entering a highway. it was extremely frightening to all three of us (especially my 9 year old) and required our exiting the highway immediately. the problem continued, and we immediately took the car into the dealership service center. the technician was able to determine the problem quickly, because it has been a frequent repair. the "wave plate" failure led to the failed transmission with additional engine problems. the bill exceeds $6000. both the near accident and cost have been highly stressful. we want gm to address this "wave plate /transmission" issue before more people almost get hurt. the forums for gm vehicles containing this part have dozens of complaints already. *tr

Steering locked up while turning at low speed, almost hit another car in the process. buick knows this is an issue on the enclave platform, still, no recall. if i did get into an accident and a fatality occurred, litigation would have been in order. is this what buick is waiting for? someone to get injured, this is a safety issue. the original sticker price for my 2008 buick enclave was north of $40,000, wow and they can't get something as simple as a steering rack and pump right? this needs to be a recall, i just had to pay $2800 to get this fixed, and not really sure if it will or will not happen again in the future. i just can't believe there is no recall for this, apparently buick does not care one bit about their customers and definitely does not want repeat business. i will tell everyone i know to avoid buick at every expense and never, never, never buy an enclave. i am also considering selling the enclave and buying something that is worth it and safe. *tr

We brought this car from landers ford collierville in 19apr13 and i have had to get the brakes redone, and a valve with the air conditioner fixed. but we went to sunrise gmc on 28jun13 and they advised us that we need a brand new transmission in the car due to a crack in some part of the transmission. i haven't had the car that long and now it needs a new transmission. landers ford knew that car had transmission problems. gmc advised us that this is a problem that happens in the buick enclaves and the arcadias. so if you know that this car had these problems, then why haven't a recalled been done on the cars. we did research this past week and everyone complains about the transmission. we also called gmc and they advised me that since i brought the car from a ford dealership and not gmc that they can not replace the transmission. but they can give us 70/30 we pay 70 percent of the repairs which i can not afford. they advised us that the car came off the line in 2007 and that is why the car is 10 months out of warranty. *tr

Steering rack system had to be replaced due to steering issues while driving. when we took it in to the dealer we were told that it needed to be replaced as it wasn't safe to drive in that condition. we were told that the steering could fail or lockup. *tr

I was driving and upon trying to press the brake the car jolted almost causing me to hit another car. the car said traction control off. i cautiously drove home with the same issue occurring but realize that the traction control kept going on and off constantly. when i read online about this issue i realized a lot of people with the same model and year are dealing with this issue no matter the mileage. *tr

During wet weather, the power steering seems to shut down and making it very hard to steer the car. this has happened many times over the past two years. it seems to happen after just starting out and driving thru a small puddle of water and after a few miles seems to operate normally. this is the same complaint i have seen from other owners and needs to be considered for a recall because this is an accident waiting to happen. we had one close call, how ever do to the low speed was able to stop the car in time. somehow water must be getting into the steering components. *tr

Steering unit emits growling noise when turning the wheels. there is feedback thru the steering wheel. i have had the power steering fluid changed at 10,000 mile intervals and that seems to help, but the service station that changes my oil tells me that the unit needs to be replaced! he has seen the same issue on the gmc acadia and saturn suv as well. also, we continue to have wet carpet on the passenger side due to the sun roof leaking. *tr

The steering on my car is almost impossible when i am driving under 15 mph. places such as parking lots, backing out of my driveway, etc has become dangerous for me to maneuver. i am very concerned for my safety. i took it to the shop today and they're telling me it's a known issue but there is no recall...it's going to cost me over $2,000 to fix. the power steering pump and rack need replaced. it's completely ridiculous for buick to not stand behind this! *tr

Entering parking lot power steering failed. parked, returned to vehicle and it was working. since that time multiple failures have occurred without any warning. very dangerous, vehicle is out of warranty and dealer and independent mechanic states the pump and rack require replacing. there are a number of similar incident reported on the internet affecting 2008, 2009, 2010 enclaves. recognizing that gm is now owned by the federal government, i suspect that there is little motivation for this agency to investigate the issue, but many believe it has significant safety implications. i am not one to complain, but as an aeronautical engineer this has all the ear marks of a design flaw. reading the internet entries it appears that for $2k+ the pump and rack are replaced and then x miles down the road you are back to square one. don't know if this issue applies to the chevy traverse and gm acadia, but suspect the whole family is sick with this problem. *tr

An audible "sloshing" sound had been detected for some time but origin/exact location of sound not identified. when parking car after driving in thunderstorm all warning systems lights flashed, radio stopped, and radio and turn signals failed. car did restart after sitting for brief period of time and systems worked except for xm radio. took vehicle to buick dealer who diagnosed problem as leaking windshield, removed and reinserted fuse for xm radio, and referred to company who had replaced windshield several months before. windshield company determined windshield not leaking, but drained water from motor blower and blew out drainage tubes. one week later, water started to pour on to passenger floor mat. warning lights for all systems flashed and electrical system shut down and care would not restart for a few minutes (and could not connect to onstar). when car restarted, lights did work, but turn signal indicators inside car did not, nor did speedometer, power windows, passenger airbag, etc. had to drive 60 miles to dealership without these working. paid to have "foam seal" replaced to prevent rain from entering car (the presumed source of problem). they also claimed to have drained water from motor blower housing cleared tubing. on the way home from repair, water again poured from area of motor blower onto passenger floor mat, and once again, electrical systems not working. buick still does not know where water is coming from, [but believes that since electrical systems working fine...after sitting there for 24 hrs...everything is fine. obviously it is not. i have seen numerous similar complaints online dating as far back as 3 years. i will add that this follows 2 years of dealing with stabilitrak ...which is supposed to be a "safety" system but can be life threatening when the car suddenly reduces power in heavy traffic and/or no maintenance lane. *tr

My 2008 buick enclave only has 54000 miles on it and the transmission had to be replaced. the rpms would race up but the car would not move. the air conditioner also quit working at 39,000 miles but i waited until this breakdown to fix it because it was the beginning of the cool season. the high pressure line to the condenser and evaporator had to be replaced. *tr

Steering would click, grind & knock while driving, particularly when turning. we took our enclave to an independent shop where they found that the rack and pinion assembly had to be completely replaced. it was a safety concern, so we had the independent shop replace the rack and pinion assembly immediately. i've contacted gm as well as the local dealership several times regarding this issue. asking for reimbursement of repair costs since this is a design flaw by gm, not a consumer driving issue. i have 60k miles on my 2008 enclave and all maintenance has been kept up to date on this vehicle and we are the original owners. i was told that they would in no way reimburse me because one i took the vehicle to an independent shop not a dealership and two my bumper to bumper warranty is out and rack and pinion assembly is under bumper to bumper not the power train warranty which is available to us for the next year (approx). i told gm that there are several postings on the internet (including nhtsa.gov) regarding rack and pinion issues with the enclave. i was told that the internet was free and anyone could post on there. my response back was i personally know two enclave owners that this happened to and their repairs were covered by buick because their warranty hadn't expired. gm told me there is no recall to date. i find this to be disappointing as there obvious design flaw issues with the enclave. i am getting the run around and on my latest call with a supervisor at gm i was told that he would pass the information to his manager, but i probably wouldn't get a call back because they are more hr they don't handle customer issues. i was told to send a letter to gm via usps. the enclave is unsafe to drive as the steering can lock up at any time. i believe that this should be investigated more closely and as a result i believe a recall will be done. *tr

As i begin to accelerate the rpm's would go to 4 but my speed would only be 25mph. this has happened several times. when i pull over, turn the car off, start it again, then it runs like it should. i contacted the dealer and they said i needed a new transmission which will cost $4000. i have researched this problem and it seems that many people have had this problem but so far no recall. i have read that a part in the transmission is not properly hear treated which is the cause of the transmission problems. *tr

Driving home from newark liberty airport on tuesday 1/8/2013 on highway ( rt 78 and rt 24 in new jersey ). hesitation in acceleration noted when pressing gas pedal . concern that i would be rear ended as car did not respond to acceleration attempts on a busy highway with a speed limit 65. took car to dealership on 1/9/2013- norman gale buick in cedar knolls new jersey and after evaluation i was told told i need a new transmission on my 5 year old car with low mileage at a cost of $4100. car warranty 5 years $100,000 miles expired 11/7/2012. i took the vehicle for a second estimate at my local service station,gulf station route 124 morristown nj. service manager , zee also confirmed that the transmission would need replacement but the transmission expert that he contracts with told him they will not touch this make and model .no reason provided to my husband . i have researched on the internet and have noted several other reports of transmission failures on this 2008 buick enclave with mileage under 70,000. *tr

Vehicle hit a stationary object, telephone pole, in the center of the front bumper. the vehicle was totaled by the insurance company. the issue are the air bags of which none activated. vehicle had a history of air bag recall and warning lights repair. vehicle was repaired by the dealer on 1/18/11 for the recall at 42,968 miles. previous repairs were at the dealer and not from the recall. my concern is there are additional air bag recalled vehicles on the road, which the owner felt the recall solved the problem. they may have an issue if involved in an accident as the repairs did not solve the problem on my car. *tr

The passenger side airbag is off while an adult is sitting in the seat. does not reset after the adult adjusts their posture in the seat. based on my internet searches, this appears to be a problem that many owners have reported. if there is a crash, the passenger would not be protected because the airbag is off. *tr

My wife weighs 120#. during normal driving the passenger airbag on and off light is erratic at best. once set to off while driving even bouncing up and down won't turn the airbags back on. *tr

Once or twice a week my enclave continues to roll another 5-7 feet after being put in park and the key removed. the accident occurred when i was unloading groceries from the rear passenger door. the vehicle moved forward and ran over my foot. *tr i have a 100,000 zero deductible warranty, as well as gm's powertrain warranty, but still zubor buick in taylor mi wanted to charge because they couldn't find a problem. since my injury, i took it to another dealer today, red holman in westland. they couldn't find a problem either. it looks exactly like the recall with the 2009 enclave nhtsa campaign #09v073000 (on some of these vehicles, the transmission shift cable adjustment clip may not be fully engaged. if the clip is not fully engaged, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. with this condition, the drive could move the shifter to "park" and remove the ignition key, but the transmission gear may not be in "park".)

Steering column makes a clicking and squeaking sound when turning. also, when slowing down to turn and at complete rest, the power steering goes out, making it difficult to turn. we were told by the dealer in our area that there were several complaints on this issue and he thought a recall would be issued, soon. *tr

Without incident or cause, our 2008 enclave began leaking an excessive amount of water onto the passenger and driver's side floor boards. only by online searching have i found that these leaks are most likely coming from inadequate drain tubes or other component of the sunroof. our local gmc / chevrolet dealership has completely brushed us off and refused to honor extended warranty or even look at the vehicle in their service department. they have sent us to local autoglass companies and a local body shop, neither of which even slowed down the leaking. at this point, i just want to get rid of this vehicle. i have two young daughters, age 3 and 4, who will undoubtedly be exposed to mold and mildew in the ventilation system of this car. aside from this, there is no doubt that electrical problems and rust are bound to occur in the future. buick has completely failed this consumer. *tr

The first problem that occurred was the engine overheated and the water pump had to be replaced. car was only 3 years old with 20,140 miles on it. since then the main problems have been with the sunroof leaking. this caused the blower motor to fail. the water leaks have happened at least 4 times. the drains keep clogging. there is no fix for this according to the dealer. not acceptable! they told me not to park under trees. are you kidding me? i've had sunroofs before and never had a problem. the recall for the drain extensions did nothing. eventually there will be other problems. who knows what else is getting wet where i can't see it. mold is inevitable. i have 3 kids and this is ridiculous. i didn't spend all this money for a piece of junk! i will never buy gm again if they don't do something. *kb

Twice within a month, while traveling at 70mph, my vehicle suddenly and quickly slowed to approx 20mph all on its own, with traction control and engine warning lights turning on. vehicle would not accelerate and stayed at 20 mph. ability to steer and brake was hampered, but on both occasions i was lucky enough to be able to ease over to the shoulder without being hit or hitting anyone else. both times the car was taken to the dealer for repair, but because the dealer could not recreate the problem, the only remedy done was to clean the connections to the traction control module. it is sheer luck that no one was hit or injured. *tr

I own a 2008 buick enclave with a factory installed sunroof. i have had the vehicle back to the dealer on several occasions for excessive leaks in from the sunroof. the water collects above the headliner and when the vehicle is moved, can drain down onto the driver causing a reaction to the unexpected event. in addition, i have had water leaking from the light fixtures both over the center console and from the rear seat roof light. in looking at the enclave owners website, this appears to be a highly common issue with the 2008 enclave. i was advised the last time by the dealer their is a design flaw with the a pillar that causes it to clog and not drain properly. this is not only an inconvenience, but also a potential fire hazard with water leaking into electrical components in the roof, console, and dashboard. buick has not accepted responsibility or acknowledged there is an issue with the drain condition. vehicle has been back to the dealer at least 3 times without resolution. *tr

2008 buick enclave water pump failure. 48000 miles on vehicle. driving home on freeway at night looked down at temp gauge and saw it was on red. smoke was coming out of the back of the car as well as the hood area. i was afraid to pull over on the freeway since i was in dead cell phone zone and am female. i was an exit from home so i was able to make it home. as i approached my drive way the "check engine" light finally came on as well as "change oil soon" info flashed on the display, by this time car was smoking from under the hood as well as the under the car. called tow company next morning to tow to nearest gm dealer. waited to hear from them all day and nothing finally close to 5 pm the rep called and said i would get a rental on gm overnight until they can look at it. next day i was told water pump failed. section 5 page 27 of owners manual said motor oil would need to be changed after operating in overheated vehicle engine protection mode, asked dealer if they would be changing the oil since it was water pump failure that caused oil to breakdown and they said i would have to pay for it. this is no ok gm should change the oil as well as filter included in warranty repair. the water pump failure lead to having to run in overheated engine protection mode in the first place. local dealer just returned my call in to supervisor. they are now willing to change the oil and filter on them. water pump should not go out in a 2 year old vehicle! please help protect consumers. i wanted to buy american but this is the 5th time enclave has been towed to the dealer. one time is bad enough but 5 not acceptable. *tr

Vehicle was making a right hand turn into a parking lot at approximately 15 mph when the steering wheel jerked to the right. the resulting jerking movement/feedback resulted in the operator under steering the vehicle and striking a large boulder on the shoulder of the parking lot entrance. the vehicle sustained moderate damage to the bumper, skirting and right front fender. this vehicle had it's power steering rack replaced less than 12 months prior for the same performance issue. in the summer of 2010 gm redesigned the power steering racks for all lambda platform vehicles (buick enclave, gmc acadia, saturn outlook, and chevy traverse) presumably as a result of complaints lodged by customers directly through dealers or general motors.

This is an update to complaint 10280929 for a 2008 buick enclave awd after fuel efficiency reaching an all-time high of 17mpg combine hwy&city, within weeks it began dropping and settled between 14-15 mpg. water leaks that began dumping cup full of water on occupants last year fixed. more definite hesitation between gears continues, as well as momentary lapses in power relationship between pedal and engine. last month a whirring sound started that was associated with turning the car. the sound would rise during acceleration and fall during de-acceleration. break job took care of it (although i doubted the dealer's assessment) until yesterday. the whirring has returned, albeit intermittently. after 3 yrs i know that if a problem can't be replicated on test drive or show up as codes on a computer--the dealerships (and i have been to 3 over the years) will do nothing. my solution is to turn this pretty looking car in (3 weeks!) and turn my back on all gm cars after 30+ years of driving all sorts of them. *tr

My vehicle has been in the shop x 1 for a leak in the sunroof. i am now on my second attempt to get the vehicle repaired. on the previous leak water could be heard in the dash while turning out of my driveway, the location of the leak at that time was near the passenger side a post. this current leak is also on the same post but on the drivers side. this time i had my brake light flashing on and off with my parking assist lamps. an audible chime could also be heard. their is an obvious history of problems with this specific body from all of the research i have found online. i am concerned for the health and safety of my family as we drive in a car that may have mold and the possibility of electrical problems causing the vehicle to stall out or catch fire. i hope the matter is taken seriously and a follow up is done. thank you. *tr

Just bought my 2008 buick enclave used with 30,000mile on it last month. since that time i have experienced several dead batteries after driving the car most of the day. i had turned off the radio, air conditioning and un plugged any adapter in the outlets as precautions after the first episode but the problem continues. i browsed several forums that suggest this is a wide spread problem with this car as well as the gmc acadia. someone even said that gmc had a recall for the acadia that solved the problem, curious to know what that was. very frustrated that my $35,000 car has more problems than my 2003 van did upon selling it!!! anyone know what the end problem was with the acadia was so that i could guide my dealer in resolving the issue. *tr

Within the last four months, i have noticed a vibrating noise as part of my steering. my major complaint is a very loud sharp whistling noise coming from my engine after driving it for a short time. the screeching, whistling continues while it is idling for long periods of time. i am concerned of what it is and also find it not acceptable to have to put up with the noise constantly, especially being only 2 yrs. 4 mo. old and less that 25,000 miles. obviously it is a defect by gm and they are responsible for fixing it asap as i'm not sure if the noise is all there is to it as far as safety. the technicians at the dealership worked on it, put in a new defibulator, took it back out and said they called gmc. according to the technician, gm said all enclaves make the same noise. i am irate as not one on the lot makes the noise nor do any other's that i know people drive. i did not pay close to $40,000 for a luxury vehicle that sounds like a 15 year old clunker in which again is embarrassing as well needs to be reckoned with before my next description may be a big safety issue too! .................. take care of your consumers gmc as integrity should be #1 in your company. *tr

I was driving my enclave and i pulled into a parking lot i lost power steering. i called on star and they said it was not something they could diagnose. suggested i check the ps fluid...i did and it was just below the min line. i added fluid, it got better but i could still sense some problem. svc shop said there was a leak, needed to replace the rack and pinion. bringing to dealer next. i've seen several complaints/articles about pw pump problems, leaks. i have 60,200 miles. seems like this is a big safety issue (what if i lost ps on the highway), why isn't gm doing something about it? *tr

If after within approximately 2-4 seconds after dropping my 2008 buick enclave into passing gear i need to perform an emergency stop, the vehicle continues to try to accelerate. it's as if the accelerator and brake are depressed at the same time. i took it to the dealer and they were able to experience the issue but when they checked with gm tech support the dealer was told a 2 or 3 second delay was normal and within specifications. this has happened approximately 5 times since i've had the car (late 2007) and has caused 2 near misses but no accidents. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) 2008 buick enclave vin [xxx] gm case #[xxx] has had electrical failure resulting since october 2008 in total vehicle being inoperable and once began smoking in the right side of fire wall when jump started. dealer has replaced all wire harnesses, bcm, 2 radio head units/navigation, all light bulbs, check for water intrusion, bpp sensor calibration, lgm bracket, checked for chaffed wire, replace both sun visors. vehicle was in the shop for 30 days in last 6 weeks and a total of 42 days since vehicle was purchased new with 61 miles on september 2, 2008. the vehicle would not start 45 minutes after being picked up from dealership last friday, 5-28-10, after being in shop for 2 weeks. contacted dealers service department at that time. no phone calls from dealership since, i stopped in at dealership on tuesday, 5-25-10 to ask for another service. dealer has not picked up vehicle and i spoke with the general manager of the dealership regarding a buy back or trade in this morning. gm customer service offered to pay 2 months car payments, detailing and an oil change at no charge. i told them i wanted this vehicle to be safe for my 22 month old, his friends that ride in this vehicle and my wife. gm told me that they will not consider a replacement vehicle, a gm engineer would not be sent out to make sure this vehicle was fixed properly and this was their final offer. i am concerned the vehicle will catch fire with my family in it. when the car looses power, none of the electronically controlled safety features operate as it is totally without power as if the battery was taken out of the car. this vehicle has been taken to the dealership on a flat bed tow truck on 2 occasions. *tr

My 2008 buick enclave became unable to control in the rain at 55 mph. took to dealer after 3 day run around was told that there was a bulletin on this vehicle that the steering position sensor became wet and started boosting steering control. they replaced sensor and inner fenders (to keep moisture off sensor) this vehicle was the most dangerous thing i have ever tried to control. how can anything stay dry under the hood of a car in the rain?? *tr

08 buick enclave normally downshifts and upshifts all the way up a hill. took in three times and they said everything checks out normal, just drive it. then driving out to arizona, it started out downshifting at the start of a hill and upshifting at the top of the hill like a normal car. then once every five to ten hills it would not upshift at the top of the hill until i shut off the cruise control. once i went five miles downhill before i shut off the cruise and it upshifted. i took it in to the dealer, but the few miles they drove it, they could not make it happen. they said there were no codes so there was nothing they could do, so just drive it like it is, as its still under warranty. it had also happened only once before when it was new,but they could not find anything either. i don't know if this is connected or not, but if i want to accelerate slowly,i have to push the gas pedal down farther and then back off quickly to not accelerate too fast. i sure hope they can come up with a fix for this problem. *tr

Snowy conditions - about 2 inches on the ground; as i began to descend the hill near my home i tried to apply the brakes to keep a slow pace down the hill. brakes failed and i began to slide down the hill. steering was unresponsive; messages interchangeably flashed on the dashboard - 'service stabilitrak' and 'service traction control'. i had no control over the vehicle, and halfway down the hill jumped an 8" curb. fortunate that the vehicle swerved to the right because there were parked cars to the left. also, fortunate there were no people/children around, who could have been hit. $3000 damage to the underside of the vehicle. very frightening to lose complete control of the car - i thought awd, abs, traction control and stabilitrak are supposed to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle in adverse conditions. everything failed at once. got the vehicle to the closest gm dealership; they ran diagnostics and surprise, everything checks out. they have no indication anything failed, so nothing further they can do except repair the physical damage. i experienced a complete failure of brakes, steering, traction, and electronic stability control and the dealership is telling me i did not - that the conditions were slick and that's what caused the accident. isn't that when all of those safety features are supposed to engage? this is the first time i experienced a malfunction like this in this vehicle. now i'm afraid to drive the vehicle, once it's fixed, esp. with other passengers. i may not even keep it. *tr

Buick enclave stops suddenly without warning on highway due to some sort of transmission failure. occupants in vehicle narrowly escape serious injury from possible rear end collision. onstar diagnosed problem as some sort of transmission related failure. vehicle was towed to buick service facility. gm technical support recommended that electronic codes be reset and vehicle is to be returned to customer. customer picked up vehicle and vehicle transmission failed again one hour later on same day. onstar diagnosed problem again, this time a similar but different problem relating to the automatic transmission system. vehicle is buick shop again waiting for gm solution to fixing problem. fix is unknown at this time. exact cause is unknown. *tr

I was driving on randall road traveling about 50 mph. i slowed to enter a right turn lane and the steering began to shudder when i moved the steering wheel. i braked aggressively and was able after much effort to maneuver the enclave into a parking space. i phoned my husband and upon arrival found that the steering wheel would not move with the engine running. he phoned the dealer and buick assistance. after 3 hours the car was loaded on a truck and taken to the dealer. the service person stated that the cooler line had developed a pin hole leak and lost fluid to the power steering system. i am still waiting since the steering pump was also damaged. no mention of replacing the rack and pinion (my husbands help with that term). i do not feel comfortable driving a car that the steering locks up if the power steering system fails. this could have been a fatal outcome under different circumstances because i could not steer the car. this is the third safety related problem since it was delivered december 31, 2007. the driver windshield wiper came loose (husband fixed) and the right rear strut weld failed leaking oil all over the garage floor and making the car feel loose driving it to the dealer for repairs. we have also noticed the passenger seat belt sign does not always work. i do not trust this car. the only bright spot is the dealership has been very responsive. *tr

I drove my 2008 buick enclave like normal to get kids from school. turned the car completely off while i was waiting for them. went to start it back up and nothing dead would not even turn over. tried several times even giving it a break in between and still nothing. called a tow company to tow to the dealer i use for servicing (plummer pontiac gmc and cadillac in lodi, ca.) and awaiting a call back to see what needs to be done to repair it. i have about 28k on it. i did know others were experiencing the same problem. thank god i wasn't in a dark area or stranded in a bad area. this is definitely a safety issue being stranded in a newer car is not what the consumer pays for with this vehicle costing well over 40k you would think you were purchasing reliability. not so much. *tr

2008 bought new in july 2008 has had two dead batteries. dealership can find nothing wrong. the gm acadia which is a "sister" car to my enclave, has a recall for the same problem. there are many owners on the enclave forum that seem to be having this dead electrical system problem. *tr

New 2008 buick enclave, the battery went dead after not being driven for 6 days. buick told me i need to drive the car at lest every 3 days to prevent this. battery was jumped and car started fine. i can't live with a car that needs to be driven every 3 days. *tr

Approx. 380 miles, the service traction control & service stability track light came on. i took it to a buick dealer in my town & they did not find anything wrong. periodically this keeps happening & each time they cannot diagnose the problem. i was given a device that was plugged into the computer& set in the cup holder. if it happened again to push the button to record the code, which i did. it has been 3 weeks since i gave the device back & still no call to bring my car in. the last time it happened the car acted like it was not gripping the road & we felt a jolt when stopping or going forward from a stop. i am afraid it will cause more damage if not taken care of. i have 13,000 miles now & i bought my 2008 enclave in july 2007. it seems to be getting worse each time it happens. i have taken it to two different buick dealers to no avail. the car handles a little different while it is going on. i am afraid it could cause me to get into an accident. *tr

Campaign 08v41000 issued 8.6.08 indicates that remedy is only available in certain, mostly northern states. since i live in one of the other states it must be unsafe for me and my family to travel to one of the listed states. i realize the gm is trying to keep the cost down, but this recall as listed,does not make sense since i travel in the winter to the covered states. *tr

Safety problem with the power liftgate on 2008 buick enclave. when closing, it does not reverse at my shoulder height. a few days ago, it pushed me down to about to halfway point before it stopped (ouch!!!) later tried this a few times... in the first 6-12" of closing, the gate does not reverse, even with very firm hand pressure. further tests showed that it fails to reverse at even more that the 12" mark (i didn't measure). at about midway to closed, it reverses with just a light touch. according to owners manual: * "if the liftgate encounters an obstacle during a power open or close cycle, a warning chime will sound and the liftgate will automatically reverse direction to the full closed or open position." *tr

Passenger front seat airbag does not work properly. 132 lbs, 5'8" female sitting in passenger seat gets intermittent "on" status for the airbag when car running. tends to be in the "off" mode about 80% of the time with this same person sitting in the seat. the first time this was addressed was in sept of 2007 during the test drive prior to purchase. at that time we contacted on-star while the same passenger described above was sitting in the seat and the sales rep was present. on-star rep could find no problem and suggested restarting the car. we did and the airbag went to the "on" position. about three months later (after purchase) the passenger airbag began to register in the "off" position most of the time. restarting the car did not always solve the problem. within the past month we have only seen the "on" light three times while the same passenger is in the seat. we took the car to the dealership 2 times and they said they could find nothing wrong and that the passenger must be too light and therefore it is unsafe for the airbag to be in the "on" position. it is our contention that there is in fact something wrong with the bag deployment system especially given the system would in fact be "on" sometimes. however gm was unwilling to provide passenger weight parameters so we could further investigate if the sensor is malfunctioning. in checking with nhtsa for national specifications we found it uses a 108 lbs 5'2' dummy to ensure deployment. as noted above we are talking about a person 24 lbs heavier and 6" taller than the minimum nhtsa specification. so there must be something wrong and gm does not seem willing to help us with this problem. this is very unsafe for the passenger. i am the primary driver. i am 120 lbs and 5'4". gm says the passenger must be too light an therefore it is unsafe to have an airbag. if this is the case then why is the driver side airbag designed for someone my size and weight. they can't have it both ways. *tr

2008 buick enclave cxl awd the seatbelt casement on both front seats in this suv are being damaged (cut into) by the belt moving out and back over the housing, causing the belt to occasionally catch and not retract into the b-pillar. this problem has been reported to the local dealer, as well as gm corporate offices, and neither will replace the worn out and catching parts, claiming that this is not going to be covered by warranty at this time. we have been told that this will be addressed in the future and in the meantime dealers are being told not to repair this problem. safety concerns lie in the fact that the seatbelt fails to retract occasionally and does not sit tight against the passenger and drivers chest. *tr

I slowed for a curve in a two lane country road. after the curve i pressed the accelerator to resume speed of approximately 45 miles per hour. the car engine raced loudly, the rpm gauge shot way up, and the car decelerated rather than accelerate. i again pressed the accelerator to speed up and the engine again raced but the car kept slowing. i became afraid that the engine was going to accelerate and engage the transmission and take off on me. i looked at the gearshift to be sure i was in "d" mode, and i was. i downshifted into low gear and limped home about 20 mi les per hour, but could not accelerate more than that without the engine racing. it scared me to the point that i am afraid to drive it, nor will i let any one else drive it until i know the problem has been completely resolved, and i have a clear understanding of what caused it. i am so thankful i was not driving on the freeway when this occurred. i called the dealer and told them to expect the car to be towed to their service dept first thing in the morning. *tr

My airbag sensor light came on and i immediately took it to the dealer. i was told the part was on order. after not hearing anything for 10 days i called and was told that the part would not be available for 5-6 weeks. i have a new vehicle without a properly functioning airbag and the only thing gm could do was give me a rental car. i am concerned because after researching this i discovered that this is not a problem with only my enclave but also with others. i also found that there was a similar problem in the acadia and there was a recall but nothing is being done by gm regarding the enclave. when i tried to contact the gm executive office i was told that there was nothing else they could do and i could either drive a rental car or drive my car without the airbag. *tr

The front passenger airbag system on my '08 buick enclave cxl does not activate 100% of the time when the seat is occupied. i have taken it to the dealership where i purchased the car twice and was told there was nothing wrong. they told me that they had at least three other enclaves in the shop at the same time as mine with the same complaint and that nationwide, other enclaves owners were making the same complaint. they told me that if the passenger does not sit in a certain exact position, with their legs in a certain position, the system will not activate. this does not allow for any variables, such as height, weight and body shape. i find this to be a totally unacceptable and quite dangerous inherent design flaw on a new model of car. *tr

2008 buick enclave that has had transmission problems for 8 months (new car was picked up in august of 2007). after several service attempts to fix this problem, it still doesn't perform like it should. today when driving the car the engine was racing to over 4,000 rpm while driving down a 35 mph road -- thought the thing was going to blow up because it wouldn't shift into the next gear. also had water (from rain) on the inside of the car after it rained due to faulty rail connectors (not sealed) on top of car. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 buick enclave. while driving approximately 55 mph with the windows down, the contact shut both front windows and left the back windows down. the vehicle began to shake and vibrate. the sunroof began shaking as well. the contact shut the rear windows and the shaking and vibrating stopped. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that all new vehicles perform in that manner. the current and failure mileages were 1,897. updated 3/25/08 *cn

On aug 20 the truck in front of me with a hitch stopped; so did i. the car behind me and the car behind him didn't stop. i took the car to springmall auto body in springfield - $5500 worth of damage. one week after i picked it up, i was driving and the engine shut down. i got on onstar and they said the traction and abs control module failed. i took it back to springmall. because it's so new, they drove the car to where i bought it - rte 1 pontiac, gm and buick, woodridge va. upon receipt of the vehicle, the mechanic never asked for paperwork from the autobody shop who delivered it - they had no idea the extent of the damage. the mechanic said he needed to drive it home to see if it would do it again. the next day, they said they fixed it and told me to pick it up. one week later after a 2 hr ride to richmond - it petered out again and i had to dive for the breakdown lane. i brought it back to rte 1 buick and they said they would have to keep my car (which i am leasing) and apparently it was something else wrong. i asked them to immediately call springmall and get a fax of the accidnet and extent of damages - they were shocked. i said i didn't mind leaving it, but i wanted my miles refunded. they said no. the whole scene turned ugly and they told me to leave the shop. i have a pregnant daughter and a granddaughter who ride in that car a lot - why did they tell me it was fine to drive if it wasn't? the car just stops!! the head mechanic said the only thing he could do was put a black box on my car, which he did. that was over two months ago and the problem hasn't occurred yet. he said just becuase onstar said what it was, that may not be the problem. they told me to stay in the slow right lane and if it occurs, push the top of this plugged in black box and head for the breakdown lane. i never know when it will happen, and i am scared to death. please help me i have a new car that i can't drive; it may even take the lives of people i love. *tr

I recently bought a buick enclave 2008. while driving i rolled down the back windows to let some air in the next thing i heard was a terrible noise and it hurt my ears, the faster i drove the worse the noise became. i took the enclave back to the buick dealer and after they drove it they also heard the noise. from what they told me it is because the enclave has a lot of air space in the rear of the vehicle and that is what cause the noise but, why does it not make the noise when, i open the driver window all the way down?? they could not answer that question. however i did find out that all of the buicks and gmc's are built the same and make the same noise. i enjoy the enclave but i do not like being able to open the rear windows of my enclave. can you help me or tell me what i can to to resolve this problem? my wife and i are both in our mid 60s and we wanted to enjoy a good vehicle. thanks james boot *tr

The front passenger air bag light frequently indicates that the airbag is off when my 110 pound wife is in the seat. i have noted the same complaint from other enclave owners on an enclave web site (http://www.enclaveforum.net/index.php?topic=449.0 ). *jb

Purchased new 2008 buick enclave on may 24, 2007. we immediately noted the "on/off" front passenger air bag light on the dash was inconsistent when my 5' 7" 118 lb. wife sat in the front passenger seat. about 40% of the time the light indicates that the air bag is off, but sporadically it shows that the system is on. june 1st, on my first dealer visit with this vehicle, i reported this problem and was advised that this was possible and we should view a seat sensing video. after several phone calls and visits to my dealer, royal buick of tucson (who have been more than helpful and concerned) the service manager called buick and was told that we were the only one in the us having that problem and the buick district manager said the system checked out okay but my wife's build was not designed for that car. we were told that the system was operating within the "parameters" set by the manufacturers for people of my wife's size. also, they said, these "parameters" were established by federal law. fast forward to 9-25-07, the sensor manufacturer sent an engineer to tucson and spent 2 hours having my wife get in and out of the front seat to establish a more realistic database or algorithm for people her size. buick or the seat manufacturer sent another seat right from the assembly line to replace our seat for their analysis. as of today 9-27-07 this new seat has a failure mode of 60% in the last three days (15 seat entries and 9 times the airbag failed to arm) we paid $40,000 for a car with an air-bag safety system that was designed to protect both front and rear passengers, but yet it would not protect an adult of my wife's size when riding as a front-seat passenger. had we known this fact, we would not have purchased the vehicle at any price. safety is our biggest concern when buying a new vehicle. this complaint is the same as number 10202517 with a few added details. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 buick enclave. the contact stated that the vehicle was leaking water on the driver and passenger side of the vehicle where the fillers that hold the side air bags were located. the vehicle was also leaking water through the roof in the rear, underneath the sensor used for reverse assistance. the rear seat belts were also leaking water. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the dealer determined that the headliner needed to be removed in order for a water test to take place to indicate the origin of the leak. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 buick enclave. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to dealer for diagnostic testing, who stated that the front passenger side air bag sensor failed. the failure was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the failure and current mileage was 76,000.

Central locking has failed resulting in persons being locked in the car. all buttons and fobs still seem to illicit lights and beeping etc. but the doors will not lock or more importantly unlock. the plunger on the driver door could not even be pulled up manually. this is about a dangerous as a failure can get. i'm pretty clever but this is not something i'm going to able to fix.
