I purchased a 2007 Toyota Tacoma x runner 9-28-06. 11-17-06 on my way to work the truck overheated. I purchased a platinum service and warranty package from the dealership that covers maintenance up to 55,000 miles and bumper to bumper warranty from 5 years or 100,000 miles. The truck had 3,903 miles on it at time of incident. They towed me to their service department and provided a rental. I received a call a few hours later stating the problem was with a radiator hose that has been chewed thru by a rodent and that nothing is covered under warranty. Hose, towing, or rental. When I park my truck in my garage after driving it on any wet surfaces, the frame leaks rusty water onto my garage floor. The rusty water is coming from the frame weep holes. The initial dealer check told me the vehicle should not be doing that and the frame should not be so rusted, yet they had no idea on how to proceed. The Toyota FTS report stated the vehicle showed normal rust for a vehicle that has been driven in upstate NY for several winters. When the FTS looked at my truck, it had 22567 miles on it and had only seen 2 winters. Toyota tells me the FTS has the final say and they will not do anything for me. The dealer offered to undercoat the truck but they need to wait until some new sunflower oil process is approved and permitted. They also tell me the undercoating will run and leak off of the truck for several weeks after application. I am concerned about the undercoating just covering up the rust and having it start rusting again after the warranty is up. The tire complaint is that now at 24000 miles I will put my thrid brand new set of tires on the truck. The stock set lasted until 11,000 miles and now the replacement set is shot at 24,000 miles even though I put 70,000 mile tires on it.

Was getting on I-95 South in Florida. Was accelerating and when I reached the general traffic my accelerator got stuck in full throttle. I was in a state of panic and the only thing I knew to do was put both feet on the brake, of course this was not quite helping. I was in a lot of traffic, many cars in the fast lane and I was quickly coming up on the bumper of the vehicle in front of me. I tried to pull off on the shoulder and it seemed to calm down, so I merged back into traffic and the same thing happened again when I realized it may be the mat being stuck and it was. By then I was caught by the sheriff’s radar clocked at 85 mph in a 70 mph. Thank God he didn’t get me a full throttle. Anyways, not quite believing my story, he felt generous that day and only gave a ticket for being 6 to 9 mph over the limit which constitutes a 109 dollar ticket verses 259 dollar ticket. My lucky day or what. Well at least me and everyone around me are still alive. Now I get points on my license for five years, a hefty fine and one very dirty driver side floor.

This is a rust issue with the main frame and some supporting parts. There are two areas which are considered perforated. The Toyota representative denied my two attempts to meet with them at dealership. They only looked at photos and one assistant manager at dealership said I had perforation. The vehicle was also brought back into dealership on 2/22/2010 to further document the rust on frame. I have additional documentation to support my claim.

they have put a new computer ,four wheel drive modle , rear diff acuater switch , trans mission, passenger cv shaft, now both front cvs need to be replaced again and it hasent even ben 1400 miles now toyota doesnt want to fix the problem they are now blaming it on the 2.5 inch levling kit i had installed by alloutoffroad with i was told would not void the warrenty

The truck frame has extensive rust and it’s just a 2007 model. I have had it at the Toyota dealership several times and they said they would not undercoat the truck unless the State of Tennessee makes them do it. I was told at the time of purchasing the truck that undercoating was not necessary because the frame was electrostatically charged to resist rust. The dealership said they would get an independent third party to look at the truck but they never have. The people I buy tires from have told me that the turck is badly rusted on the frame—something they don’t see on a vehicle so new. Also, the truck is not driven much–I have another vehicle I drive to work–so the rust issue is not due to bad weather driving conditions. After all the recent news stories about Toyota products, it appears they have a quality issue and no effective means of dealing with problems until something tragic happens.

My trucks has a very bad rusted frame due to a toyota poor frame coat and it will need to replace not feeling safe driving not letter was sent out during the time to do the recall of toyota frames

I’ve noticed the the undercoating on the frame is really starting to deteriorate, and a lot of rust is happening,i know frame rust can cause parts to snap off or crack, which will really compromise the safety for myself, my passengers and other motorists. it may also significantly diminish the tacomas ability to protect my family and i in a crash. i know certain toyota’s have this recall already because of the dust magnet undercoating toyota uses. for some reason i was only able to load 1 photo, will send more if needed, i really need something done.

Steering suddenly got very stiff. dangerous think its the ujoint.been this way about a week

At 65 mph on ny i-87s - without any warning my toyota tacoma suddenly dragged to the right. guided truck to the right shoulder - went to see what had happened. found passenger side rear tire was not intact. found the tire tread was wrapped around the axel - separated from the rim. have never seen anything like this. tire was demolished. contacted tire manufacturer (continental/general) and dealer (mavis). they informed me that there was nothing they could do. tire was warrantied for 60k miles - i had <17k on tire.

I have a 2007 toyota tacoma which i bought in january of 2020. i noticed that the right front side of the chassis near the transmission crossmember had really bad corrosion happening. the rust has eaten up a large part of the chassis beam in 3 different spots severely and by the looks of it can split in half in no time.the truck was originally from the new york and pennsylvania area. not til months after i had purchased the truck i was informed that toyota had a massive recall for rusted out frames to be replacement. i gone 2 different toyota dealerships and they aren’t willing to inspect my chassis or help me out with anything.

Rust frame

A winter storm hit my area and i needed to engage my four wheel drive, the four wheel drive wouldn't engage. the indicator light on the dash would only flash. my truck only went a short distance before getting stuck on the road leaving me stranded.

This truck has a manual transmission and the problem occurs while it is in gear. if the engine is loaded at 50% of full throttle or more (accelerating, going up hills, interstate speeds) in 4th or 5th gear, and you take your foot off the accelerator pedal, the ecm (computer) consistently holds the throttle open for 10 seconds. in any situation where you need to stop quickly (yellow lights, car turns in front of you, pedestrian) and you step on the brake, the engine fights the brakes and greatly increases (>doubles) stopping distance. in one instance the rear wheels repeatedly broke-free, and it was extremely difficult to keep the vehicle going straight. on snow or ice, i expect maintaining control to be impossible: i'll spin at the first application of the brakes. toyota techs have examined the vehicle twice and confirm that it is the ecm holding the throttle open, supposedly "...helping the rpms to stay up for a brief period of time to help when shifting" and to mitigate emissions. it's not supposed to hold the throttle open when in gear, but i was told the ecm doesn't know when the clutch is engaged or what gear it's in. on my vehicle the normal "shift cycle" happens correctly between all the gears and lasts ~1 second as long as you don't "load" the engine greater than ~50%, as described above. but if you do, the ecm holds throttle for 10 seconds while the truck is in gear, which is 880ft at 60mph! i have spoken to toyota several times: brenton, (800) 331-4331, case #1610030909. brenton, a supervisor, claims that this is intended by design and is safe and refuses to do anything. there is more documentation at https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/unsafe-engine-revs-between-gears-3-4-4-5-and-shifting-out-of-5.458027/ i will continue to document the truck's behavior until i crash due to the severely degraded stopping distances.

Spiral cable diagnosed as needing replacement by a toyota dealer in may of 2011, replaced by an independant repair facility in december of 2011. a recall notice was sent out regarding this issue shortly after i had the repairs made. i sent toyota copies of my receipts to get reimbursed in may of 2016. toyota will not reimburse me for the repairs since the repair order of the independent repair facility did not do a diagnosis. i did not ask them to, since toyota had already done so. the symptom of the issue was a check engine light on the dashboard that was always on. the cable would wear prematurely, causing a short, which caused the check engine light.

Excessive rust on frame of truck. frame coating/ protection insufficient. toyota re-coated the frame on february 7th 2015 however the frame has continued to rust unabated as coating is flaking off.

Steering seized, later determined to be a severely corroded intermediate steering shaft u joint. was turning a corner at the time and was able to gain control of the vehicle. later learned through online research this is a common occurrence with this vehicle. dealer tried to lubricate. but later replaced the shaft as the joint continued to bind.

For the last year have been trying to get local toyato dealership (heyward allen toyato) to repair the recall keep getting same answer we have no product will call you when some come in. the same answer over and over. i want this done asap. if something happen to me or my truck i am going to sue heyward allen toyato. i do not want to do business with them is there anywhere else close that i can take my truck. and i want them to pay for my gas getting there why? because this should have been done 6-9 months ago. i have spoke with friends and strangers who have had there's done months ago the same time they where telling me there were none available. that they would call me when some came available that was in march of 2017.

Over the last ++18 months, when ac is on, the truck idle will idle at about 1500-1800rpm. after having mechanic do a couple throttle body cleaning it did come down below 1000-1200rpm. for the last 5 months, when shifting (either up or down) between 4th & 5th gear, the engine surge to 3200-3600 rpm as soon as clutch is depressed + accelerator is released. in 2011 when the dealer did recall # 09v388000, the engine surging issue was not that as severe as it is today. in last 3 months, beside engine revving up , i started getting engine error codes. 07/12/2017 took my tacoma truck to dealer for available recalls: 12v092: air bag spiral cable 13v337: seat belts 14v604: rear leaf springs; these broke in january 2013 & i replaced both sides with skyjackers tcr515s (4leafs) and i have no intention to replace them. i think that in early 2011, the dealer did recall 09v388000 but this dealer could not find any reference to it so they would not address that issue; but he would want to open engine to check that timing chain is not defective/ off which he claimed is the cause of the surging between 4th/5th gear. this diagnostic would be at my cost. i refuse because i disagree with this logic, i do not have lost of power but only engine revving up like crazy and high iddle when clutch is depressed

I had my 2007 tacoma rack and pinion steering replaced because it was stiff and a reliable mechanic recommended it cost over 1000 dollars. 90 %fixed times the steering sticks and have to muscle it in control. i've now read it might be the universal joint. and there are multiple complaints on this. i've had the recall on my frame replaced. any more recalls i hate to see this truck become a money pit.

The rear propeller shaft broke while driving on hwy 2 at 60 m.p.h. (washington state). the driveline flailed around and damaged the exhaust pipe and the metal bracket common to the fuel tank. this is a 2007 toyota tacoma 4wd. i found a safety recall for this exact problem nhtsa # 07v324000 that states the propeller shaft was incorrectly cast and could snap (just like this one did). i called toyota and they said they would not cover it because my vin did not match with this recall. the photos i am uploading shows the shaft broken off in a classic case of metal fatigue due to improper casting.

On a routine commute home, i was traveling approximately 70 mph in the #3 lane on the freeway when i noticed i lost acceleration, but the engine would rev. it regained acceleration then went away again with a harsh sound. i was able to safely move over to the shoulder and inspected the vehicle. it would not move in any gear and upon inspection of the underside, smoke/steam was coming from the differential and it was very hot to the touch. the towing company spent an hour trying to pull it onto the flatbed due to both rear wheels being locked despite all brakes being off and the transmission being in neutral. once it was dropped off at my residence, i removed the third member assembly. i discovered there was no fluid and the pinion gear looked ground down and there were metal flakes. it also appeared to be leaking from the pinion seal, something i was not aware of leading up to the incident.

My chasys frame have rust and look like my motor going to fell to the floor i call toyota but the say no open recall to replace my frame, also my car have a lot vibration on rear went aceleration. but toyota dont wante help

I called toyota of santa barbara to schedule this recall work to replace the rear leaf springs on my tacoma. i was told that the parts were on order and i would be called when they came in. i week or more later, i called again and told by a man in the parts department that the parts for the recall were still not in. he asked if i wanted to be put on the waiting list for the recall service. i was surprised to learn that despite my previous call i was not put on the list. the guy i spoke to was unable or unwilling to give me an estimate for when the service could be done, and said the faulty leaf springs could be used without risks. i was unwilling to be so cavalier with the defect and the potential for additional damage to my truck. i explained that when towing my small trailer the suspension bottoms out when hitting a dip or bump, even at slow speeds. i am planning a long camping trip across the west and canada and need this repaired before august 12th.

After purchasing this truck used in sept 2014, my mechanic noticed that the driver's side rear leaf spring was missing half of one of the leaves. i contacted toyota and was told there was no recall program, even though the internet revealed numerous other owners with similar problems. since toyota offered no assistance what so ever, i purchased an after market spring replacement kit, and upgraded the entire suspension. in 2016, toyota notified me of a nhtsa recall 14v-604, dealing with broken leaf springs, my exact problem. since i had already repaired the problem at my own cost, i submitted the invoices for the suspension kit, and my mechanic's invoice. they have continually requested additional and unnecessary paper work, including a separate detailed letter from my mechanic. one it has been almost 2 years, and two he is no longer in business. i would have been happy to comply with these requirements when the repairs were performed, but of course toyota was denying responsibility at that time. this is merely an effort to delay and avoid payment under the recall plan. i am not trying to get toyota to pay for other unrelated parts and repairs, only the rear leaf springs and labor to replace. every time i call toyota, they say they will take care of it, and then a month later i get the same robo letter requesting the same unreasonable info that i can't provide over 2 years later. i would file a complaint with the bbb, but toyota has an "f" rating, so obviously they have no concern for customer safety or satisfaction.

Both rear leaf springs failed in november 2014. the outer leaf of both rear springs fractured. i replaced the leaf springs with an after market suspension system which included rear leaf springs. this was before the toyota leaf spring recall. toyota just denied my claim for reimbursement stating that the after market leaf springs are not the part that was covered by the recall. they stated that after market parts are not eligible for reimbursement. based on what i have read of the law, i don't believe this to be a valid reason for denial of reimbursement.

Nhtsa recall: 14v-604. received official recall notice in early jul 2016. took vehicle to authorized dealer as required within one day after notification. inspection of vehicle indicated leaf springs replacement required. told parts were to be ordered and i would be notified. called dealer 8/12/16 and advised parts are on back oder with a forty eight day delay. if this is a mandatory safety recall why are parts not available withing days of inspection by authorized dealer

The problem with leaf spring started three years and after the final recall, we waited two months. the bad leaf spring caused a rough vibration, which caused rod, dry shaft, u joint, and rear end are connected which caused damage to all connected parts.the three years and two months of rough vibration caused a snowball effect while driving, turning and in motion.

Toyota tacoma truck 2007 has frame rust that can and will eventually cause a fatality if it hasn't already. i warn owners of these vehicles to start looking for rust for i will assure you that you will be the fincial looser in the long run of thing! please do not purchase without looking elsewhere. these are toys and dangerous.

Vehicle infected with extreme frame rust. motor support ; transmission and transfer case support; power steering tubing rusted holes making steering impossible. the dealership known as ramey toyota has my truck and charging me with unnecessary charges on towing the vehicle to their facility due to a spring clip become loose allowing the vehicle's right rear wheel to sway therefore it had to be towed. contacted toyota authorized the tow as well as a vehicle to ride so they can replace the leaf spring. toyota now denies they authorized these two issues and left me with holding the charges. they called the towing service and not i so therefore i am not responsible. please note all the aggravation caused from the above and added danger from this vehicle is the rust on the frame! please contact this dealership and get the dangers of driving this truck on the road. it is completely unsafe due to all that is mentioned here. please contact toyota as well that they are saying i called the towing service. trust me this vehicle is extremely dangerous to drive due to all the rust and if something happens then you have this information that you and i can lean back on in case something does happen upon driving the vehicle. thank you very much. i have taken pictures and videos of the vehicles rust and have tried to up load them to you but your system will not accept the images.

The frame of this truck is extremely rusted and has been for some time. have spent a great deal on parts due to the rust and now it is considered as a dangerous vehicle. i have tried to get toyota's attention about this safety issue but they keep turning me away. i have also noticed that on the internet and folks around my community who own the same type vehicle is rusted as well. please! i need someone to contact toyota about this dangerous issue.

2007 tacoma/toyota frame has bad rust an corrosion. there was a recall at one time but i was never notified. truck is in good condition 87000 mi. truck was serviced today 1-22-2021. mechanic said chassis not in good condition. could turn out to be fatal on the highway.

I have a 2007 toyota tacoma . i have called toyota headquarters about the frame they said the recall has expired and my truck has been “fixed” for the frame issue, now there definition of fixed is a undercoating that hasn’t done a single thing to prevent the rust. it will not pass the va state inspection. i spent a lot of money on this vehicle for some bullshit recall that has “expired” a safety recall should not expire. it is a danger to my life and others. i will continue to drive it until something is done. it is my only means of transportation. this either needs to be fixed or i need to get my money back. i have called several times and have made several reports it shows that nhtsa is a joke they do not care about anything other then the money they profit. thanks.

I purchase a 2007 toyota tacoma in june 2015 at that time we were told due to recall by toyota, the frame had been undercoated. recently researching the recall information, this was one of the options for repair by toyota recall. when we went for an inspection it failed because of rusty frame....how can you allow recalls to expire? i know this was huge expense to toyota to repair vehicles, but i feel like a life is much more important than a loss for a company that should have manufactured a quality product to begin with. my question is, how can you, in good conscience allow recalls to expire, when clearly one of the recall options did not take care of the problem? my son spoke with toyota and they could care less. i do not have the finances to repair or buy a new vehicle. i know i am not the only one having this problem. if part of the recall/repair process would deteriorate after a few years is this really a fix to the problem? doesn't that still leave a safety issue? i just do not believe the undercoat worked the way it should have and a new recall should be issued, as clearly this did not stop the problem and the issue is still there with owners of undercoated vehicles. i pray owners are aware of this and it does not result in a loss of life or limb. too many accidents are happening for negligence of the manufacture. i do applaud toyota for trying to make the vehicles safe, but this instance after a few years, clearly the undercoating failed to repair and make vehicle safe.

Clear coat gone and paint is peeling and fading on almost all surfaces

Air bag light is on. horn not working. fuses good- wire harness recall completed 2012 nov. problem seems to be related to the same components. now over 240k miles on the vehicle.

The shifter broke after pulling into park and the indicator light on the gear box failed. repaired shift cable 8/6/2020.

I purchased this vehicle new in 2007. recently upon my periodic inspection of the frame i noticed all the frame welds in the upper frame area rusted and the welds appeared to be breaking on the frame. if this is in fact the case this vehicle is no longer road worthy. the frame of any vehicle should last the entire life of the vehicle. this vehicle has 153000 original miles on the odometer.

I own a 2007 tacoma. it was inspected last year while frame recall was in effect. they said it was fine. now only 1 year later there are 2 baseball sized holes it front of the frame and a crack halfway down the frame. i've called toyota several times and they refuse to address it. how is it possible that any company can get away with. they've known for 20 years they have a frame problem. they should not be allowed to be sold here any more until they can figure it out. major safety issue. *tr

I've noticed my steering became very hard and stiff all of a sudden. i've checked the power steering pump and fluid, it all checked out fine. i did a little research and noticed people having issues with steering intermediate shaft no 2. (lower one by the wheels). i noticed that part was not protected by anything and is and was exposed to the elements like salt, water, dirt etc. overtime, the u-joint rusts up and starts to stick causing very dangerous conditions for the driver where it becomes very hard to turn the steering wheel when turning. i've attached a photo of my part in question. my toyota dealership wants $700.00 for parts and labor. that is outrageous. *tr

I have two concerns: first is the clear-coat and paint on the vehicle rubbing off causing the roof and other body panels to rust, which in turn causes the structural integrity of the vehicle to be compromised in the event of an accident/rollover. second is that the front headlamps fill up with water/moisture during cold weather/rain/ and car washes. this could lead to the headlamps shorting out causing an accident and possible injuries/deaths. toyota so far has offered no solution to either concern and my extended warranty company claims they won't cover sealed beam headlamps. if they are as they claim sealed beam headlamps how is the water intrusion happening? both of these concerns are safety related and should be addressed as such. i am the second owner of this vehicle and it only has less than 62,000 miles.

Drive shaft u joint failed while operating at high speed. drive shaft snapped off at high speed and cracked fuel tank and exhaust. truck has had frame recalled and leaf springs recalled. truck has been in shop already 4 times regarding frame recall.

All four door lock actuators have failed one at a time, and replaced under warranty (at the time). since then, two of them ( both on the drivers side) have failed again after the 1 year replacement part warranty ran out. this posses a safety hazzard and a security risk to myself and anybody else operating this vehicle. upon researching this issue on the internet, it is a very common problem, and therefore should be under a safety recall.

My 2016 hyundai tucson stumbles a lot upon acceleration from a stand still. sometimes while making a turn. a few times it put my daughter in dangerous situations. hesitating while acceleration though an intersection. it is very frightening. i took the vehicle to the dealer twice. once in july 2019 then again in october 2019. the first time they told me they had no idea what could be causing the vehicle to hesitate and stumble upon acceleration. they told me they had reset the computer on the car in hopes that it will fix the issue. then the second time they told me it may be my air filter and or my fuel injectors need cleaning. i declined both because the dealer who i bought the car from just had them cleaned and air filter was almost brand new. after trying to convince me that something else could be causing the car to hesitate he finally confessed that it was a transmission issue and that one other hyundai car had the same issue and they had no solution for the fix. they also said that they were waiting on hyundai to come up with a fix. in the mean time my daughter, who i bought the car for, continues to drive the car until hyundai recalls the car and have this problem taken care of.

Fuel tank strap rusted and broke. no warning. i was hearing a noise when i took take off and driving. couldn’t figured out what that was until i looked back and found the gas tabs strap was tangling and hit the prop shaft. then notice the tank was hanging 1/2”lower than the front. i called the toyota and the dealership and both said nothing they can do. no recall even though i told both that this is a safety issue. this vehicle has not had the frame replaced and i tried to get that done but they said it expired. i’ve only own the vergil’s for 3mths. since the frame did not get replace that means that the fuel, brake,spring, tank, straps did not get replace which is hidden recalled. the dealer ship that my frame needed to be replaced but toyota would not do fix it. so owning this vehicle for 3 mths and if i had known this before i would not have bought this vehicle. so now i maybe owning a lemon due to this with no help. the dealer ship i bought this told me that there was no recall and there was, when the had the vehicle on there lot. what am i supposed to do?

I was stopped at a drive through, finished my transaction vehicle was in park. i placed my right foot on the brake and moved the shift lever to drive. the vehicle immediately accelerated at full throttle. i was able to stop within 2 car lengths and no collision was incurred.

I recently purchased a 2007 toyota tacoma that was involved in the frame rust recall. my local toyota dealership informed me that even though there are currently rust perforations in the frame (many frames were replaced by toyota at no cost during the original recall) that because toyota inspected the frame (with a previous owner in 2016) and did not find any issues large enough at that time to cause the entire frame to be replaced, that their "crc" undercoating they applied was all that was necessary. less than 3 years later (maybe sooner, but i just got the vehicle) the frame has holes in it and toyota is not going to do anything about it but offer a full out of pocket $10,000-$15,000 frame replacement. there must be thousands of these vehicles from the original recall that were only sprayed and not replaced that are now unsafe to drive with absolutely no recourse for new (aka unaware) owners because no warranty of the spray whatsoever exists. undercoating in no way prevents rust from continuing to rot away and make holes in frames - all toyotas that were only sprayed but did not have entire frame replacement should be required to get new inspections by toyota and revisit the need for frame replacements.

We took our toyota tacoma 07 with 62,402 mileage for state inspection on 7/24/2019. significant rust perforation was found on the frame causing the vehicle to fail inspection, and the mechanic advised that it is unsafe to drive. we learned about toyota's warranty extension program for rust perforation from their class action settlement for 2005–2010 tacoma vehicles, but our 07 tacoma's extension expired on 5/26/2019. we called toyota customer satisfaction and were told that toyota would not do anything to help in our situation, even though the problem existed prior to the expiration of their assistance program and we only learned of the problem and the program at this point because of the timing of our state inspection.

This truck has 12 years and 62,000 miles on it. i was making a u-turn last week, and when i finished the turn i heard the noise of something breaking. then a clanking noise of metal on metal started to sound from under the steering column while turning the wheel and running over bumps. i also noticed excessive play on the turn of the steering wheel and vibration when driving above 50mph. i am a licensed auto tech and between the noise and the play determined that the truck was not safe to drive. i proceeded to diagnose the problem and found out that the mid steering shaft was worn out. the part connects the lower section of the steering column thru the firewall in the engine compartment to reach the rack and pinion assembly. the failed part is composed of two small shafts joined together by a rubber disk that acts as a damper. the shafts have a small metal base and in the section of the steering column it has a small u-joint. the small bases connect in two places at right angles to the rubber disk but the lower small shaft goes thru the center of the rubber disk and thru the center of base of the small u joint. at that point there is a plastic bushing that fills the gap between the two metals. that bushing broke and is the cause of the play and noise along a deteriorated rubber disk (see photos). this part has deteriorated over time and the rubber and plastic have degraded. i replaced the part but it has the same design and will fail again in the future. many people fix the problem by filling the gap with zip ties as i found out searching the web. my main concern is that two pieces of the part are hold together by a rubber disk that deteriorates over time and if it breaks, the driver can loose directional control of the vehicle causing an accident. also due to the high cost of repair, many people make mods to make the part work creating more hazards.

Vehicle in motion when the steering column came off and all steering of the vehicle was disconnected and impossible. adjustable steering column system appears to have failed and fell to lowest position unexpectedly. pulling up and out on the wheel to return to my normal position gave no resistance and steering wheel, blinker/wiper control housing, ignition housing, and adjustable column controls came off the mechanical connector for the remaining steering column, breaking the ignition switch and disallowing further operation. vehicle rolled to an uncontrolled stop and was able to be pushed to a safe place and placed in park.

The intermediate steering shaft u joint rusts and causes the steering to stiffen unexpectedly. i know there are technical service bulletins put out by toyota, it is disappointing that automobile company’s are not held accountable by the nhtsa, since this is a safety issue.

My toyota tacoma (2007) appears to qualify for the airbag recall but searching my vin does not bring it up. the manufacturing facility, dates and vin range all seem to match. how do i challenge this or appeal to have this corrected? the airbag light is constantly on i am told it will cost hundreds of dollars to fix the spiral spring. please help!

I went to the my local toyota dealership to remedy the suspension spring gas tank puncture recall on my toyota and they said, they couldn’t do it cause my truck has a body lift.

I have had issues with the steering being incredibly too stiff. there is no return once the steering wheel has reached past 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock on the wheel. i have done some research and it looks like the intermediate steering shaft is the issue and has been commonly reported. i do not understand why this has not been recalled as the steering is incredibly difficult to turn and can cause serious problems with being able to control the vehicle. if the part is faulty that was installed, why has this not been brought up as a warranty recall. this is incredibly frustrating that this could be a seriously detrimental issue that has not been addressed.

Timing chain cover seal is leaking oil. common defect in this year tacoma, resulting from lack of proper seal application.

"takata recall". i was in motion travel home on the highway when i ran off the road and hit a tree head on. the airbag part cut the left side of my chin. the er doctor said the hole was the size of two fifty cent pieces but together. and he could see the jaw muscles. the vehicle is total. i have a police accident report, insurance claim, medical expense and picture of the cut and the truck. i will need help with these photo and documentation to upload on the format.

Bought a 2007 tacoma 4x4 with approx. 300 miles on it. it had been stolen from a lot and therefore had a red title. we got a letter informing us the frame was possibly rusting and to take it to a toyota dealer which we did and was informed it was rusted beyond being repaired and would have to be replaced. after being told it would take a while to get the frame in before it could be repaired we waited about a year, in the mean time we have made several attempts to find out what the hold up was. after a year or so wait we were told they would not fix it because it has a red title, this truck was not water damaged or in an accident, so now the frame is almost rusted into with around 100,00 miles on it, please tell me how it getting stolen has anything to do with the frame rusting thru. ll had a recall on all of these trucks because of this happening. i would greatly love to hear how they can avoid repairing this one!! at a later date we had a recall on the rear springs and they replaced them... . .

I experienced a bad smell in the cabin, particularly when first switching on the ignition, which causes the cabin air fan to start running. i checked the cabin air filter. there were rat feces in the pleats of the filter, a smell of rat urine, and there was foam material from the inside of the car. presumably the rats had been chewing it to make a nest. they had also been chewing on the filter material. the local toyota representative said toyota usa would not do anything to help me. i removed the cowl at the base of the windshield. the cabin air intake is open to the space under the cowl. i found that that the top of the cowl is drained by holes where the windshield wiper drive shafts go through the cowl. the water collects in the space under the cowl, which in turn is drained through large drain holes at both ends, down into the fenders above the wheel wells, and to the ground. i think the rats were getting under the cowl and into the cabin air intake through one or more of these holes. i cleaned the blower fan assembly, the cabin air intake, and the inside of the cowl, and replaced the cabin air filter. i made screens from ¼ inch mesh to keep the rats out of the space under the cowl. i installed them on both sides. i also made and installed a screen over the cabin air intake to keep rats out if they somehow get around the side screens. i have had no more problems so far. since rats carry disease, i consider this a serious health issue for all the other owners of these vehicles. i am forwarding this information in the hope that you can pressure toyota usa to do the right thing and correct this issue for all owners.

I’ve been waiting on the toyota dealership to complete my recall for almost 2 years. they told me, back in august of 2016, that it would be a few months until they got the parts in. i called numerous times to get it done but nothing has come of it. the recall is for the rear leaf springs.

Steering is very stiff. turning left and right. need 2 hands to turn and return to center. this is the 3rd time . 1st time it just went away and came back and went away. now it's back. afraid to drive it after reading some of the minor crashes associated with this issue.

Corrosion issues with toyota. had my vehicle chassis inspected per a notification received in 2016. dealer indicated "nominal". i viewed my chassis soon thereafter and noticed metal separation. i reported this to toyota.com and received nothing. i now have a piece of metal whose weld broke due to corrosion. i was given an updated letter by my local independent mechanic. i never received this and have not received any treatment to my chassis. this is a safety issue, particularly since welds are breaking due to corrosion. this has been ongoing since july 2016. pictures were taken in 2016, within 3-4 weeks of the alleged dealer inspection.

Steering is very hard to steer dealer wants 600.00 to fix a steering shaft i don't think its right should be a re call on this truck before some one gets killed.

There are 3 recalls on my vehicle in which i've been notified about. i called the dealership where i purchased the vehicle and tried to set up a date in which i can leave my vehicle. the recall notification from toyota stated that i would be provided a loaner vehicle while the work is being performed, since the rust treatment was going to take 4 days to dry. now since i've requested a loaner vehicle the dealership continues to avoid my calls or let me speak with the head repair technician. the problems with the vehicle has had recalls for safety hazards and potential death while driving.

I own a 2007 toyota tacoma. it's frame has been inspected by my local toyota dealer (hertrich) three separate times for rust to the frame. it received a rust inhibitor coating on 1/16/15. it was inspected again on 12/21/17 and 1/3/19. during the 1/3/19 inspection, the dealer conducted a multi-point inspection. my truck's steering components and steering linkage were inspected. it received a green check by the dealer, the highest rating. on 2/7/19, just one month after the inspection, my power steering failed while i was driving. i was able to make it safely to my local mechanic. my truck's rack and pinion steering system had heavy corrosion, and most of the power steering fluid had leaked. my mechanic replaced the rack and pinion steering system. it was heavily corroded. my mechanic said he had never seen one this corroded. please see attached photographs of my corroded power steering rack. toyota has refused to apply a second coat of the rust inhibitor to my truck's frame, even though i have new rust coming through the previous treatment. now, rust and corrosion to my power steering rack, exactly where it attaches to the truck frame, had massive corrosion, causing a total failure of the power steering system. i have checked toyota forums, and this problem is common with other toyota tacoma owners. please force toyota to properly address the corrosion issues with it's tacoma trucks. the rust inhibitor that was applied to my truck's frame in january of 2015 has failed. the truck's frame, and components attached to the frame, continue to rust and corrode, causing danger to me, my family, and other motorists. thank you for your attention in this matter.

Takata recall- i had a accident while vehicle was in motion which caused air bag deployment. injuries included facial cut to chin requiring external and internal stitches, a concussion, black eye and other cuts ( have photographs that could not be uploaded due to size) takata informed me i may have claim. i filled out there forms only to be denied three times, the last one due to my vehicle not on recall list. my question is why is my vehicle not on recall when i have suffered the exact injury’s from the air bag as described in the recall. thank you.

Lower steering shaft 4520304021 seized. repair cost is significant $400 plus. i don't believe this item is a normal maintenance item like brakes or belts. not to mention if it seizes while driving could cause a major accident or fatality. mine has not seized but is causing much harder than normal steering effort. there is no warning prior to it seizing. please advise.

Steering had intermittent problems. one day it was fine and the next felt like there was no power steering. after turning a corner, the steering wheel would not return to the center position without considerable force and only after hitting the curb. it turned out that the lower intermediate shaft of the steering assembly had a u-joint that seized and was close to breaking off before i could get it replaced.

The u joints on my 2007 toyota tacoma deteriorated to the point in which i was forced to replace them, multiple times. this issue with the u-joints has now led to an increase deterioration in my drive shaft as well. recently, i received a letter from the manufacturer stating there was a recent recall on the above described u-joints. upon taking my vehicle to the dealership they told me several different stories. in the beginning, my drive shaft was supposedly just fine and in need of no repairs; they informed me that they would still replace the u-joints in question. later on they changed their story to the drive shaft needing to be replaced completely due to wear on the item from the faulty u joints. after explaining background information they told me i was not eligible for the drive shaft to be replaced for free; blaming the damage on a previous mechanic who has been in business for himself for over 35 years. now, as i am writing this complaint, my vehicle sits at the dealership, with me unable to utilize it due to the fact that they now say they will not put the drive shaft back on and i will have to pay out of pocket to get it towed. they are telling me that i am not eligible for recall status, they will not put my drive shaft back into my vehicle, and they are costing me and my family a lot of money due to the fact that my vehicle is my livelyhood.

Last week i noticed tightness in the steering of my 07 toyota tacoma intermittently. it progressively worsened and at times would be very "jerky". yesterday it was tight nearly my entire way to work. i called and made an appointment to have it checked. on my way to the repair shop, as i was turning out of a parking lot, the truck started to turn fine but all of a sudden got very stiff and jerked. i wasn't expecting it and almost hit a mailbox . the quote for my repair, which includes a lower steering shaft, coupler, bolts and required alignment, is $820.00. as i was looking online to make sure that this was a legitimate pricing quote, i noticed that this seems to be an issue with the toyota tacoma between the years of 005-2014. this is a definite safety issue and needs to have a recall issued.

Steering became progressively harder to turn over a period of many weeks. it was ok with highway speeds and straightaways with little steering correction. it was very hard when all types of normal turns were executed at any speed and after warm up. it turned out toyota, by comment of the repairing mechanic, who had done many, has had an issue with corrosion of the steering column linkage. i have never received any info regarding this. i thought it was power steering and that i could muscle through it for a while. it became worse fast. based on a false assumption which many might make, this could have easily locked up and caused a crash. i have been around long enough and have never encountered this in the many vehicles i have owned. i feel that toyota should at east put out cautionary info to owners

I have a problem with the steering becoming stiff at times when turning the wheels either right or left. i took it in and i was told that they lubricated the universal joint; however, that did not rectify the problem. i've had the power steering pump replaced; but, this problem isn't the same as what was happening the the pump needed replacement.

On 29 nov. 2017, while driving back from an errand, the ab break warning system turned on. at that instance, i lost the breaking capability of my truck. fortunately, i was near my home and managed to park the vehicle in my driveway, using the parking break and pumping on the break pedal.

Called toyota dealership about a recall (rear leaf springs) they told me there were 2 recalls,but not told to the owners-no notice sent out .they said the other recall is the rotting frame & it would be checked when i bring it in to have the springs replaced,which they had to order( also this has been 30 days ago).(note) this truck is all i have to drive.i checked the frame and it is bad ! there are places that i can poke my finger through the frame...if something happens i will come back on the gov. & toyota for not publicly and formally addressing this issue. i always liked toyota but i will probably never buy another one.......

I received a recall notice & was told that there was a back order of the part. an inspection indicated no immediate danger so i was placed on a waiting list for the leaf springs & would be called, but months passed &i wasn't called. i checked many times & in between calls, they gave my part to another customer.when they got another set, i arrived for the appt &was told that they could not do the replacement of the leaf springs because there was a lift block installed. i was told the only way that i can have the recall completed was to pay to have the lift removed from another shop & then toyota would do the recall work. i priced the cost of having the lift removed and was told by the aftermarket shop that other toyota dealerships were doing the leaf spring recall work without requiring the lift to be removed. i told the dealership & they still said they would not do the work. i am unable to afford the lift removal and reinstallation, the modification that was done to the truck is a simple block that is put under the leaf springs so all that toyota would need to do is the same work they would already be doing if the lift was not present; the only difference is removing 1 lift block from each rear side, & putting it back when they put new leaf spring on. i even told them i'm willing to sign any waiver necessary. i am unable to afford the work they are saying is mandatory before they complete the recall & as time passes i am concerned about the safety of my vehicle including the rust spots on the leaf springs. the dealerships that are willing to do the recall said they will replace the leaf springs but when reassembling it they will not put the block back which means my vehicle would be lifted in the front but not in the rear and it would have to be towed( unable to drive in that condition) to a shop to redo all the work toyota just performed!

After driving on the highway for a few minutes at ~70 mph, the abs light run red on. when the light turned on the computer thought the car was in a bad situation and locked the brake pedal. this caused the brakes to not function and made the car almost impossible to stop. whenever the car was able to be slowed down to about 19 mph, the light would turn off and the brakes would start to function normally. this happened once a week for 3 weeks in 2015 and again in february of 2016. it happened again in april 2016. this problem did not happen at low speed and it would not happen twice in the same day, even during the same conditions. i went to wolfchase toyota to fix the problem. they decided not to do anything about it. i went to principal toyota and they said they had never seen the problem before. they said that they could reset the computer or put in a new one ($3000). they reset it and for the past few months it has worked.

For "limited service campaign", my tacoma was inspected for excessive rust holes in it's frame on 09/25/2015. the dealership declared that my truck passed this inspection. on my next visit ,05/24/2016, for a highway noise problem & oil change, the dealership decided on their own to re-inspect for frame rust and declared it had failed the frame rust inspection. they said the campaign was over and i would have to pay for the frame rust repair. the dealership did this inspect & re-inspect in this manner to avoid their responsibility. i filed complaint # 1606271989 with toyota and was denied . i have service reports #6207015 and 6240379 that document this service and results.

Driving normally and approached a stoplight with a stopped truck ahead. applied the brake and my vehicle began to accelerate. struck the stopped truck with pressure still on the brake and the acceleration stopped. minimal damage and no injury involved. very frightening experience. the truck was towed to the toyata dealer( afraid to drive it) and they could find nothing wrong.

Nhtsa recall: 14v-604- received notice stating "the remedy will take approximately two hours." i called rick hendrick toyota scion sandy springs and i was informed that it is a two step process the first step lasting 2 hours. then if needed they will order the parts ("we don't keep them on hand as the boxes are too big") taking 2 weeks then another 2 plus hours to install. now that is not what the notice states, it states two hours ( i know i see the restof the paragraph) but really double if not triple the stated time and 2 weeks to wait just does seem to be in the keeping of the spirit of the contract. craig

I purchased a 2007 toyota tacoma from bernardi toyota in framingham, ma in december of 2008. toyota motor sales, usa, inc. issued a service campaign to inspect and repair the frames of 2007 toyota tacomas due to a manufacturer defect which resulted in corrosion to the vehicles frame. i brought my toyota tacoma in for inspection at bernardi toyota and the frame did not have a hole in it. therefore, the frame was not eligible for replacement, rather it was only eligible to be sprayed with a coating that was supposed to prevent corrosion. in march of 2016, i received a recall notice for a defect in the manufacturing of the vehicles leaf springs (also corrosion related). i brought the vehicle in for the recall and bernardi toyota noticed a hole in the frame. bernardi contacted toyota corporate to replace the frame; however, was refused. i contacted toyota as well and they also refused to replace the frame with a known manufacturer defect, despite replacing frames for other customers. it is obvious that the spray applied to the frame did not work to prevent further corrosion. toyota replaced the frame on trucks with holes in the frame similar to mine, but refuses to replace the frame on my truck even though the problem is directly corrosion related and the spray they applied did not prevent the frame from rusting through. this is a known defect which was not sufficiently addressed by toyota. toyota should provide me with an equal remedy that they provided to other toyota tacoma owners and that is a frame replacement.

Dunlop at20 p245/75/r16 dot m670 c8er 1012, tires are the second set to be replaed on my 2007 toyota tacoma. first set failed to meet the manufactures warranty of 70k miles with only 43k on tires. were replaced after much hageling with good year. after putting 23k on second set of tires, found one with a large bubble in the outer sidewall. if this tire were to have blown out, a truck this size would have lost control and the possiblity of severe injuries were present. again i am hageling with good year to replace the tire, although defective, i am expected to pay 43.00 cost to replace it. this on a defective product, and should be at no cost to the consumer.

Last fall i received a limited service campaign follow-up notice from toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc. regarding potential hazardous situations arising from possible frame perforations. their letter said and i quote 'some vehicles may not have sufficient corrosion-resistant protection...this may contribute to the development of more-than-normal rust in the frame of some vehicles'. the letter suggested the owners of said vehicles schedule an inspection at a participating dealership no later than the march 31, 2016 expiration date. the inspection was performed on december 11, 2015 at sunrise toyota, 4002 sunrise hwy., oakdale, ny 11769, (631) 589-9000 and a perforation of the frame on the front drivers side wheel well was discovered. the dealership informed me that it presented a safety concern that would require total replacement. at this point i was told it was ordered and would take 4-6 weeks to arrive. at 8 weeks i had to make the first contact. they said now it could be between 3-4 months but never reached out to inform me of this change. at 12 and 16 weeks i called the dealership again to no avail. they have no idea of a delivery date and don't seem to care. at this point i called toyota corporate customer service and they provided me two things. they would have sunrise toyotas customer relations manager call me also to absolutely no avail and to provide me a reference number [xxx] for my complaint. please exercise influence on sunrise toyota to address this hazardous situation promptly and with full disclosure. thank you very much. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Frame rust. my vehicle exhibited perforated rust on the structural parts of the frame. i took the truck to toyota on 29 february 2016 for repair under their service campaign that was not to end until 31 march 2016. the technicians could not find the holes of rust until i showed them and then i was informed that toyota would no longer remedy the rotting frame because it had been previously coated by toyota while the vehicle was owned by a different owner. i pointed out to them that the remedy that toyota had employed was obviously ineffective and since the service campaign was still in force, a proper remedy should be employed. the dealership refused and referred me to toyota national for usa. they also refused to assist and sent a letter to me to that effect. toyota launched this service campaign but are not ensuring that their repairs are effectively fixing the issue which involves the undermining of the structural integrity of their vehicle frames. it is unacceptable that the frame recall is not working and that toyota is not willing to stand behind their product, leaving the customer with an unsafe vehicle due to the compromised structural integrity of the frame itself.

The frame is rusting out on my tacoma that i purchased and toyota says since they inspected it 9 month ago it no longer qualifies for frame replacement program. it had not been driven under any negative road corrosive conditions in this time, and this frame was i believe rusted when inspected and not discovered because it has rusted from the inside out. now the power steering has gone out and i have been experiencing acceleration problems with it since purchasing it. i contacted toyota about the frame rust and was told basically too bad so sad. they have told me they filed my complaint under file #1603091915 at their national headquarters. the frame metal is defective. the power steering has quit working at approximately 75000 miles, and the truck accelerates under its own power when shifting into 5th gear.

I purchased a new 2007 toyota tacoma (vin # [xxx]) from boch toyota of norwood ma. it currently has 44,836 miles on the odometer. in july 2014 toyota has a safety recall for corrosion of frames on vehicles like mine. at that time they only removed loose rust and applied some kind of rust proofing. on march 25, 2016 i took my truck in for another recall. this recall is for corrosion of leaf springs.both leaf springs were replaced. the manager said they had found corrosion damage to the frame of my truck, including a rust through or crack in an area below the passenger side door. he said the frame should be replaced and i should contact toyota, because they have replaced such frames under the terms of the frame corrosion recall. i contacted toyota. my case # is [xxx]. toyota said the frame recall ended in july of 2014, and since the damage was not noted until later, then it was not covered. my complaint is: ? this problem is not caused by normal use, but is a safety defect, which toyota acknowledged with their 2014 recall.. ? the inspection of my truck for corrosion and frame damage in july 2014 missed the severity of the problem with my truck. ? the application of rust proofing was either not properly done or inadequate to address the damage, which the recall intended to address. ? toyota?s deadline for having the frame replacement work done under their recall is march 31st 2016. i reported my frame damage and requested replacement prior to that date a toyota rep said that, because their technicians did not note the severity of my frame damage in 2014, a frame replacement by toyota is not covered now. this truck has seen very light use. the condition of this frame is a safety defect, which toyota has covered in other cases.toyota should cover frame replacement for my truck under the 2014 recall. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Received a recall from toyota regarding unusual frame rust for my 2007 tacoma. i brought it to a toyota dealer for inspection. they determined the frame was rusted through in places and had to be replaced. the inspection was in dec. 2015. they told ne they had to order parts and it would take 3 to 6 months for them to arrive. i checked with the dealer this week (3/14/2016) and was informed the parts are still on order and they could not give me an eta for their arrival. i think 3 to 6 months to repair something as fundamental as the frame in a truck is excessive. this recall should have a higher priority. the service technician told me they are awaiting frames and related parts for numerous tacoma trucks at this time. in the meantime, i am reluctant to drive the truck any distance or with any significant load in the truck. i also cannot trade in or sell the truck in this condition. this recall has a potential for a major accident if the frame fails while at highway speed.

Steering has become very difficult. parking, changing lanes, and turning have all become quite a dangerous chore--. to the point i do not feel safe even operating the truck.

Rust perforation on frame. was not notified that this was an issue by manufacturer. first inspected by dealer 4/15/15 and was missed. inspected by another dealer dealer 1/31/16 and found large perforations in frame measuring 4". was informed by dealer thi was a known issue and would be taken care of free of charge. manufacturer was made aware of issue and declined frame replacement or repair.

The vehicle's entire electrical wire harness had to be replaced. diagnostic code pointed to a corrosion problem with the harness hook-up point with the automatic transmission. toyota put out a mechanic's bulletin for it's mechanics when this code came up to replace the entire electrical wire harness probable cause corrosion. the problem showed up after starting the truck, driver pushed the brake, to move transmission from park to reverse. the right turn signal indicator light lit up while brake was depressed. check engine light came on. right signal came on every time the brake was applied, all the way to the dealership service department.

When heat control dial is turned from cold to hot, an inside door within the heating/cooling system closes off. this keeps any hot air from blowing into the cab and through the defroster. this decreased air volume from hvac vents will not heat the cab in cold weather and will not properly defrost the windshield in wintry conditions as no hot air will blow. toyota service bulletin (t-sb-0072-09) covers this costly repair. the inability of the defroster to provide hot air to the windshield has caused me to pull over several times due to inability to see through it either from internal condensation or from ice buildup during times of precipitation and freezing conditions. further, with the heater not able to provide hot air into the cab, occupant safety is at risk in times of extreme weather during both driving and/or times the vehicle might become stranded. this condition occurs in all modes of operation, both driving or idling in park. air velocity tapers off as the heat control is increased (to the right) to the higher settings effectively cutting off hot air flow into the cab. this is both when the vents are open and when in recirculation mode. see attached file for reference. primary safety concern is visibility through the windshield during inclimate weather and occupant safety in colder conditions. this is not a new problem with my vehicle- but has recently become a very significant safety concern due to recent weather conditions and temperatures. i cannot load the pdf file (t-sb-0072-09) as it is too large.

Due to combination of the spiral cable design and characteristics unique to the chassis components of the tacoma, steering wheel vibration (“flutter”) caused friction between the flexible flat cable (ffc) and the retainer in the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel. this occurred in a ffc with sixteen-channel circuits and damaged certain circuits on the flat cable that provides connectivity to the driver’s air bag module. as a result, connectivity was lost and the air bag warning lamp illuminated. in addition, the driver’s air bag may have become deactivated, causing it to not deploy in the event of a crash. this could increase the risk of injury to the driver. the 2007 toyota tacoma with a ffc with seven channel-circuits have already been recalled for this problem. indications of a developing problem was first noted through illumination of the airbag warning lamp illuminated after starting the vehicle and rotating the steering wheel. vehicle mileage was approximately 125,000 miles at that time. initially the lamp would cycle off and on with the frequency of the lamp in the on position increasing over time. this suggested that the loss of connectivity was a result of increased wear in certain circuits. eventually the lamp would stay on continuously indicating that all connectivity was lost in the driver's airbag control module. vehicle was taken to dealer for service at a mileage of 129,094 and the problem was corrected at a cost of $461.83 plus tax.

When i driving on local street, my truck felt odd when i step on the gas acceleration (( slow)) the speedometer hit between 30mpg to 40mpg i feel shudder like the gas got joke {{intermittent)) i feel my engine shaking till i pass the 40mpg, if i step on the gas down fast its run normal, i heard alots of people complaint about the same problem..my milages now 73,000.00....

2007 toyota tacoma, rusted frame.. i purchased used in austin texas on oct 2015 from a dealership. the truck is from a northern state, affected by massive amounts of rust on the frame. i took the truck in for a look over, i was told i had a few years left in the truck before the rust rots completely through. toyota needs to recall the 2007 models as well. i just bought this truck thinking this was going to run for a very long time, i was mistaken and buyer beware.

Toyota can't build frames for their trucks. mine is rotted. toyota plans to spray it with a rust inhibitor. they have recalled every 2006 and older tacoma for this issue and won't recall the 2007's. i now own a pile of junk and toyota won't do what's right even though they clearly know there's an issue.

Steering actually locked up requiring extra effort to make a right curve. after stopping and looking for aa problem working the wheel back and forth freed up the steering enough to drive home. an internet search found hundreds of complaints about this issue with tacomas. lower steering u joint rusts and seizes.. lubed the shaft and plan to replace the steering knuckle.

Steering is hard, binding up at several points in a 90 degree turn, and then the wheel does not recover automatically as turn is completed. it would stay in the "turned" position if i did not manually return the steering wheel to the "straight" position.

While making a turn on to the entrance ramp to the highway steering wheel became hard to move.

Try to make small adjustment with steering wheel and the steering appeared to fight me. when first starting the truck and go to back up, the wheel is difficult to move. after rocking the wheel back and forth a number of times the steering seems a little more normal. this same wheel fight can come on even when you are on the road and traveling the speed limit. since this happens while driving, i am worried that it could seize up and cause an accident. if it was just my vehicle i would just pay and get it fixed, as i am currently doing, but the internet says there are a lot of people with the very same complaint and they have contacted you folks. the range of model year appears to be 2005 and up. please look into this as it is a very dangerous problem and people could die.

One by one, all four electronic door lock actuators that lock and unlock the vehicles doors stopped functioning. the local dealership replaced them, one at a time until all four were working again. this was covered under my extended warranty that i had purchased with the vehicle. now, at 84,000 miles, two of the door lock actuators have failed again ! this time, the dealer told me because the extended warranty expired i was out of luck and would have to pay roughly $500.00 per door to have it fixed! my response was " this is a pre-existing condition, so they should be replaced by toyota". the service rep told me that the parts were only warranteed for one year. the dealership contacted toyota, and submitted all of the paperwork from my previous problems. toyota responded with a "too bad, we're not going to do anything to help you". so, here i am with faulty door locks that you think are locked, but are not. which leads to a safety and security issue for me and anyone that rides in my vehicle. after doing some research on the internet, this seems to be a common problem with these trucks. i'm wondering why there hasn't been a recall regarding this safety issue. *tr

After a couple of months i started experiencing a loud "squeak" coming from the rear of the vehicle and a "whistle" at speeds of 65-80mph. i contacted dealer and took it in for them to troubleshoot the issues. after about 4 months of ownership along with the above mentioned problems i started noticing a heavy vibration at slow speeds. i bought new tires, front end alignment, and had tires balanced as per my dealers recommendation. then the acceleration issues started..... i took it back to my dealership and they performed the "floor mat fix". the vibrations just kept getting worse and the constant visits to my dealer and calls to toyota's corporate office always ending with the "that's normal for these trucks" saying. the other day i was returning home and i was approaching a curve i removed my foot from the accelerator and depressed the brake pedal and slowed down to take the curve, i went to accelerate through the curve and my truck was not turning. the rear tires were locked even though my foot was off the brake which by that happening i had no control over where i was going. ... i ended up not being able to steer around the curve and went straight through someone's yard taking out a mailbox and sliding sideways into a tree crushing the passenger side of my truck. called toyota's customer support and reported the locking up off my rear end, the failure of the anti lock system, and the loss of steering. all i got for my troubles was a rude "well there's nothing we can do" (as always). i have had nothing but problems since i purchased this truck. toyota needs to address all of the issues that has plagued the tacomas from day one. i have contacted a lawyer and have been instructed that a class action suit needs to be filed against toyota by all of us. my email is [xxx] if you want to pursue this with me contact me. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

We own a 2007 toyota tacoma. back in 2009 i had an instance where i was driving during snowy conditions and when approaching an intersection, while applying the brakes the abs kicked in to where i could not stop and i coasted into the intersection and got in a minor accident. i have noticed several times throughout the years in the road has any wet, slippery, lose grip the abs will kick in and prevent me from being able to stop. even when the road is dry, if one tire of the three lose any traction my brakes stop functioning making it incredibly difficult to stop because the abs system. after researching online, apparently this issue is common with my generation truck. there have been countless instances of people sliding into intersections unable to stop because of the abs. not as many as unfortunate as me to get into an accident because of it. i have been searching for a solution and feel that toyota should have a recall to prevent further accidents. *tr

I bought my truck used. a total of five times i've taken it into the dealership because of suspension issues. each time i was told there's nothing wrong. my drive shaft was replaced a year ago. i noticed the leaf spring sticking out and broken. i took my truck straight in. i was told the truck was undrivable. toyota gave me a rental and replaced the leaf springs. i picked my truck up three days later thinking the problem was fixed then two days after that, my truck felt loose and was making a popping sound when i put it into reverse. it felt like the drive line was out again. i took it to be looked at again. i was told my driveline u bolt snapped and was caused by the broken leaf spring. toyota wouldn't fix the damages because the shop they recommended didn't use toyota parts. my truck had 250000 miles on it. the damages to my truck were add do extreme that i had no choice but to give it back to the bank. the vibrations caused tranny damage and the axles and differential the frame had damage because the leaf spring was shoved up into it.(i wasn't told until after) no i've got nothing..... thanks toyota...... *tr

Took toyota tacoma, 4x4 to team toyota in langhorne, pa. for annual state & emissions inspections. failed state inspection due to hole in chassis frame due to corrosive rust. had dealer call toyota with no results. i called from the parking lot & received a case #. nothing else has been accomplished. called a few days later & spoke to a corporate person. "toyota can do nothing at this point , because a recall has not been issued for my vehicle's vin# . my truck's chassis has been compromised & yet they won't repair it yet! this is the second time this has happened to me. the first time was a 1998 tacoma which they bought back for the same reason--a rusted chassis frame. think they would have corrected the problem by now! my sticker runs out at the end of november. what do i do after that? i need help to convince them to fix my truck!please! *tr

I first noticed that the steering on my 2007 tacoma is very often extremely stiff turning in either direction last year. i brought it in to the dealer to check it out. was told: "lower shaft starting to get stiff". was quoted a replacement/repair cost around $550. could not afford that at the time. this problem had been intermittent but now happens nearly every time i use the vehicle. this is a safety issue that could lead to an accident. looks like i will have to pay toyota to fix this. my research indicates that the problem is with the "steering intermediate shaft number 2". it seems this part is either defective or poorly designed as there are numerous reports about this issue on many automotive websites which specifically cite this vehicle for a range of years from 2005 on. *tr

When i removed the baby seat from the rear driver side seat to take a trip after returning i could not get the seat belt to lock in place after several tries. *tr

At approximately 42000 miles i noticed a vibration in the front drivers side wheel. i had all four wheels replaced and the vibration continued so i took the vehicle to estabrook toyota in pascagoula, ms (because that is where i was at the time). when i went to pick the vehicle up i was told the repair manager had personally checked the car out and determined it was the right front bearing so it was replaced and supposedly test driven. i left the store and immediately felt the vibration once again on the left front so i brought the car right back and they replaced the left front bearing as i had initially identified as the problem area and the problem went away. now, two years later the left front wheel bearing has gone out once again and i am afraid to drive the vehicle. *tr

Parking brake cables fracture of the housing at the point where cable enters rear brake backing plate. rust and corrosion prevent the rear brakes from releasing or applying. have seen on numerous other toyota vehicles with this design cable system from 2004 to 2012 model years. rear brakes can overheat and cause fire or uneven brake operation and low pedal feel. *tr

I took the truck in for it's yearly inspection and was informed that the frame will not pass inspection next year. it was suggested that i check if this truck frame was under a recall. i spoke with my toyota dealer and was told that this truck does not fall under current criteria. i have called toyota experience to lodge my complaint that this is unacceptable that a truck with 51335 miles frame has rusted so badly that it will not pass inspection. i am waiting for toyota to follow up with a broadened criteria that will repair my truck frame. *tr

2007 toyota tacoma double cab with daytime running lights. the orange plastic lens material has cracked and burned due to the excessive heat from the bulb. the effects were noticed around 60,000 to 70,000 miles. running headlights during the day to avoid having running lights on. *tr

On or about july 24, 2014, i noticed while pulling out of my driveway that my 2007 toyota tacoma trd extended cab with 62830 miles that the steering was quite hard to turn. but the problem seem to go away after a minute. this then continued to happen intermittently at various speeds for the next couple of weeks until i had near collision while driving out of town in new jersey. while proceeding at an intersection at about 20 miles per hour and turning with multiple vehicles paralleled to me, i nearly swiped another vehicle on my right. this was because my steering became very stiff which made it very hard for me to turn the wheel. driving my tacoma had now become dangerous and i couldn't take any more chances. the next day i called toyota dealership and set up an appointment to take my truck in for the following day. when i drop-off my vehicle, i indicated to the attendant that the intermediate steering shaft my be the culprit. this was because in doing some research i discovered that the same thing had happened to a multitude of people who own a tacoma. well my vehicle was repaired, with the root of the problem being the intermediate shaft. a repair that cost me $579.00 since as part of the repair they had to do a wheel alignment. *tr

Similar to other complaints, the power steering becomes intermittent and it become very difficult to turn the truck when the power steering cuts out. this could potentially be very dangerous in certain driving situations. i am bringing the truck to toyota for inspection and hoping toyota will pay for the repair, as it seems to be a chronic issue for this year and model. *tr

We were inspecting the underbody of our company owned tacoma. there is major rust on the front frame, and the steering arm (a-arm?) where it attaches to the frame. the rust is substantial enough to allow possible separation of the arms from the frame. we did some internet research and see that corrosion was a problem with earlier models of the tacoma. we will take this to the dealership to inspect but we thought it should be reported. it appears that if those connections fail stearing would be substantially impaired. *js

While driving onto entrance ramp of highway, attempting to merge onto traffic, the steering wheel became very stiff with loss of power steering. i pulled harder to enter highway and steering finally caught causing me to swerve over almost hitting vehicle in far left lane. checked power steering and is full. did some internet searches and have come up with several complaints of this same issue. the intermediate steering column becomes faulty and is dangerous. this can cause death or serious injury. toyota should issue recall on this part and have replaced. steering column joint is not protected from the elements and becomes rusted away. *tr

Just leaving work to go pick up my children from school, i noticed a strange rattling coming from the bottom side of my truck. i stop and proceeded to see what it might be. i noticed the middle (of three) leaf springs had completely broke, slid out of place, and was rubbing against my brake line. i then taped it back in place to prevent any further damage to my brake line. the following afternoon i was able to take the truck to the dealership where the technician advised the service advisor (#8987) that there was no sign of any external shock or damage that could have caused this. he then explained to me that he "saw no reason why this could have happened". *tr

The frame is rapidly rusting through. this vehicle: a) was purchase new by me in 2006, b) is stored in a fully enclosed garage, c) is not used for commercial purposes, d) my home is in westchester county, ny (immediately north of new york city and not a hostile vehicle environment) and e) the truck has very low mileage - 31,000 mi. the frame has rusted entirely through in two places and shows extensive rust throughout, including at points joining the frame to the chassis. updated 09/04/14

Truck steering at various speeds, particularly at lower speeds, became stiff at times and required more force to make either a right or left turn. it did seem to affect the steering when going straight, meaning it did not drift or pull to the right or left, even on tapered road surface. wheel did not pull when braking. i understand there maybe bulletin concerning this issue. *tr

Was approaching a red traffic signal, coasting in case the light turned green before the need to stop. light was still red, so i stepped lightly on the brake pedal. the was no sign of braking. i then increased pressure on the pedal, with no braking action. surprised and concerned, i then set my left foot on the brake pedal and pushed with all i had with both feet, but there was no braking action that i could feel. the truck stopped as it bumped the vehicle in front of me. engine speed was normal when the event began, and when the event ended. i did hear a relatively minor increase in engine speed during the event. the brakes worked properly before and after the event. one additional note. for years i have noticed a few times per year a momentary increase in engine speed immediately after stopping at a traffic signal. you never know when it will happen. the speed increase is greater that an a/c speed pickup, but lasts only briefly, then returns to idle. i keep my foot on the brake pedal with enough pressure that the truck does not move forward. had truck towed to dealer following the incident. dealer found nothing wrong. they spoke with toyota reps and were told toyota was unaware of any problem. unable to trust the truck and having been advised that ford had similar brake failures in the past caused by abs brake actuator, i paid the dealer to replace the actuator. after spending more than $1200 for repair, i still do not know if the brakes will fail again. a brief internet search indicates to me that this was not a loan, random event as indicated by toyota reps. the consequences of brake failure are serious. the dealer did provide me with the original actuator that was removed from the truck during the repair work. i will provide the original actuator for any legitimate agency to check it out if that could be helpful. *tr

I heard a loud noise (boom), good thing i was able to pull over on the side of the highway when the vehicle stopped and stalled. when the tow people came and saw the damage underneath, it was the drive shaft joint that broke. i could have gotten into a serious accident. the vehicle is fairly new, my mechanic is having a hard time looking for parts (drive shaft) and all the other parts that were damaged because of this incident. *tr

While stopped to take a ticket before entering a garage, with the car in neutral and my right foot on the brake, the engine twice accelerated to over 6,000 rpms. the acceleration lasted about 3 or 4 seconds before the engine returned to normal idle. my foot was not on the gas pedal, but rather on the brake. my tacoma has a standard transmission. last week, the same thing happened as i approached a stop sign - car in neutral, foot on the brake, not on the accelerator, and the engine zoomed to 6k rpms. i contacted the dealer where i bought the truck new in 2007 and who has serviced the vehicle every 5k miles since purchase and i have a service appointment for this friday. all the information i have been able to read about toyota and this problem is from a couple of years ago and references toyota's cover up of the issue, etc. is there a more current source of information that would help get this problem resolved, since it does appear the that issue is with the electronics and not the mechanics? is the truck safe to drive? *tr

Rear leaf spring on left side broke at approximately 105,000 miles. the leaf broke at both the front and rear mounting points. the left side of the vehicle dropped three inches and the broken spring made contact with the box frame. fortunately there was no loss of driving control. both rear leaf springs have squeaked since 2010 and required periodic lubrication to quiet them. this is a one-owner vehicle driven in the mild weather of the mid-atlantic states. *tr

The truck had approximately 62,000 miles when we drove it to florida christmas day. on saturday, december 30th, we ran some errands that covered about 15 miles of city driving. upon returning to our hotel, as we backed in to a parking space, the truck accelerated wildly. the tires screamed as we backed up onto a parking berm (pictures included) and continued to squeal while my foot was standing on the brake pedal. i put the truck in drive, the truck came off of the berm, but the tires were still squealing all the while i'm still standing on the brake pedal. i put it in park right away and shut it off. looking down at the pedals, there was nothing unusual to note. no mats had moved and the pedals were as they should be. if it were not for the berm, there is no telling of what the consequences would have been. i recall that as we backed in, my foot was either about to step on the brake pedal or i had already begun to brake. my foot was not on the accelerator because, with the air conditioner on, the engine has sufficient rpm's to slowly move the truck without it. i went out a few hours later to start the truck and move it back and forth. at that time, everything seemed fine. i also took photographs of the berm and tires at that time, which i can supply. this was a very unnerving experience and i've been mindful of it since. even though it has been a couple of weeks since the incident, i'm unsure i can have faith this will not happen again. i have since gone to the dealer who preformed two open recalls, but said there is no evidence of any "incident" as stated above ever happening. *tr

My truck has a vibration in the rear of the truck we have balanced the drive line 3 times replaced both u-joints and there is still a vibration between 30 and 40 miles per hour. i took it to the toyota dearer ship and they keep it almost 2 weeks and first said it was the tires, and then the transmission and then the wheels and then maybe if i spent the money and put a new drive line on that might fix the problem but not sure. i have been out over 1,000 dollars and no luck with fixing the problem. *tr

At highway speeds, during upshift from 4th to 5th or downshift from 5th to 4th, with clutch pedal depressed, engine rpms do one of the following: 1)remain constant, and then increase for several seconds before starting to decrease, 2)remain constant for several seconds, and then decrease, 3)decrease very slowly (far to long to execute a "clean" shift). while 2) and 3) are more of an annoyance likely due to poor engine control software, 1) is a serious safety concern in that engine speed (and vehicle speed) continue to increase despite the clutch pedal being depressed. "goosing" the accelerator does not appear to have any effect--the engine rpms wait several seconds before falling. in addition to the safety issue, you also wind up with a lot of clutch slippage because you are letting the clutch out while the engine/transmission are still engaged at a high rpm. *tr

While passing a slower vehicle my accelerator stuck in full throttle and would not release, i tried to put on the brakes but the vehicle keep picking up speed. i put the vehicle in neutral and started hitting the gas pedal with my right foot, the accelerator released and my truck was doing over 70 mph or more. the engine was running at full speed while in neutral and i was just about to shut off the engine when it released, i contacted the toyota dealer where i bought the truck and the man asked how many floor mate's were in the driver side of my truck. i informed him that the only mat was the mat that came with the truck , i was informed that i would have to drop off my vehicle and leave it until someone went over it. i was also told that this would take about one day or more, and that i would have to fill out a bunch of form's first. i told the service person that this was my only vehicle and that i had no other vehicle to use until they were done with there check of the vehicle, the service person ( [xxx] of pgh pa) said that's the way it is. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

I was on my way to get gas i came to a stop light there were about 4-5 cars waiting for the light to change, my truck started to accelerate as soon as i applied my brakes,unable to stop the truck i pulled into a gas station that was on my right i was able to put the truck on park and it began to accelerate even faster.i turn the car off and the acceleration stopped i missed the gas pump by 2 feet.i had the truck towed to mcgeorge toyota 9314 west broad street richmond va and they did a diagnostic test,they came back to me and said that i had loose mats,and wrong pedals on my truck,which had nothing to do with what i experence(,i report this also to toyota ),i feel that they are trying to brush this under the carpet by saying it was my mat,and gas pedals that were installed in my truck,i know what i went through and almost had a real tragic accident it was not the mats,or my pedals..this truck took on a life of its own and i could have killed someone or myself, and would like to go on record in case anything happens to me or someone else..there is something wrong with this toyota tacoma by the way i only have had this truck less than a month and have not even made my first payment ! *js

The daytime running lights that came with my tacoma started running so hot that it is melting/cracking the plastic lens/housing. after a simple google search of the problem, i came across multiple forums with users who have the same problem. some were lucky enough to have this problem occur within the warranty period but others, such as myself, were asked to pay upwards of $800 for new housings. after looking at the bulbs, i noticed that even the housings for the bulbs are showing burn marks. on the road i have seen at least 8 different toyota tacomas with the same problem, their lenses are either bubbling up and burning, or fully cracked. this safety option that came standard on my tacoma is now a safety issue that needs to be addressed. *tr

Vibration occurred between 15 and 20 mph. the truck felt like you were driving over a gravel road. research indicated there were tsb's for a similar problem at a little higher speed which extended the warranty to 5 years or 80,000 miles. i was first told by the local toyota dealership that the problem was a rubber insulator engine mount in the transmission. i was later told when the truck was in for repair that the problem was not that. the problem was now one of the u joints was not turning like it should. the repair recommendation was replace the drive shaft and 3 u joints at a cost of about $1,000.00. i ended up spending $731.00 and toyota paid the rest. the repair bill states "drive shaft froze". the repair was done on november 29, 2011. *tr

2007 toyota tacoma sua (sudden unintended acceleration) my incident started from a near standstill with my right foot firmly on the brake. as a formally trained observer and troubleshooter of aircraft electronic systems, it is my opinion that this vehicle delivered uninitiated stimulus to the electronic throttle control system. i am 100% positive about this finding as i personally experienced this failure with a clear mind and excellent vantage point. i was finally able to stop this vehicle after violent and aggressive braking was applied while contacting a cement picnic table. this finally occurred just short of a 267 foot cliff/hill pointing into a reservoir. this is my second entry into the nhtsa database concerning the unintended acceleration of a 2007 toyota tacoma. i have now been through the entire toyota process and have had all recalls and investigations performed. damage from the accident due to sua has been repaired. toyota findings were conclusive. "could not duplicate". this means they do not have to do anything at all. i have to date engaged in extensive research of this phenomenon and i am shocked as to the findings recently announced by ray lahood and nasa that exonerates electronics as a possible issue. i have been supporting, maintaining and troubleshooting electronic problems since 1980 and consider myself a credible professional technician. this was definitely an electronic ghost in the machine. *tr

The air bag light on my 2007 toyota tacoma prerunner double cab 4x2 came on and will not go off. the toyota dealership planned to charge me $115 to diagnose the problem. they did not recognize the code and charged me $59.50 stating that they would call back after speaking with technical support. later they said the problem is the spiral cable and quoted me $562.44 to replace it. the problem occurred in july 2011 at 59,000 miles. i plan to fix it soon for 2 reasons: my life is worth more than $562 and i believe in virginia the light needs to be off to pass the yearly state inspection. this is definitely a recall and a safety issue, the dealership let me know when i took my truck in that the airbag will not deploy without fixing this issue. my truck is practically still new, i have never had an issue like this before with any of my other vehicles. *tr

I bought an undercover truck tonneau cover to cover the bed of my 2007 toyota tacoma truck. after three years of use the cover developed severe fatigue cracking around the mounting hinges. fearing a catastrophic failure, with the cover possibly flying off into traffic, i removed the cover from the truck. the failure has not been corrected by undercover and the part remains in my possession. their response was that they would not replace or repair the cover since it was out of warranty and that it should be removed if i felt it was a safety hazard. pictures of the cracked hinges are available. *kb

While on a camping trip my 2007 toyota tacoma suffered a sudden unintended acceleration event. while applying the brakes and coming to a stop the tacoma suddenly accelerated and flew over two good size boulders a cast iron fire pit and came to a rest after hitting a solid concrete picnic table. a report was filed with coho campground hosts acting as to go on file with the washington state forestry department. this even occurred at the wynoochee dam and reservoir located in the pacific northwest of washington state. the truck was remanded to toyota of olympia washington and the insurance carrier was notified. the truck was due for the well documented toyota floor mat, gas pedal and braking acceleration override modification. now listen carefully here...the floor mats were heavy duty rubber non-toyota brand mats. they were not impeding the gas pedal in any way shape or form. the truck accelerated instantly while braking and almost at a dead stop. review of nhtsa findings on this issue are shocking. i did not hit the accelerator by mistake, there is a huge difference in the size, feel and consistency of these two incredibly different pedals. many children and campers were present in this campground, the sheer luck that no one was killed is a matter of fate. the fact i am writing you from my living room and not a jail cell while being held for vehicular manslaughter is a miracle. this is not driver error, you have a bunch of 4 wheel time bombs out there traversing the nations highways. with over 30 years in technical electronic systems i assure you this truck accelerated from an almost dead stop while my right foot was on the gigantic break pedal, not the little tiny gas pedal. hear me, believe me..... end of story.

I bought this truck new and purchased the optional anti-corrosion system at the time of the sale. at the 2-year check required by warranty, i noticed corrosion in the vicinity of the rear bumper and frame. the dealer, atkins-kroll toyota on guam, submitted this concern to the maker of the system, who denied any responsibility because i used the truck to haul scuba diving equipment. we have subsequently engaged with atkins-kroll directly, and they have failed to fix the problem, claiming they need to consult with their headquarters to determine if this is covered under warranty. meanwhile, my bumper has corroded through on the right side and separated from the frame. the majority of the corrosion is in the bumper and a crossbar at the rear of the truck bed. all the hardware in the bed has corroded as well, even though i fresh water rinse my truck bed every time after i haul dive gear (i have done this since purchasing the truck). there does not appear to be any appreciable corrosion beneath the forward portions of the bed, just the back. a fellow dive instructor with a 2005 tacoma pre-runner experienced the same thing, and his bumper completely came off. i understand earlier tacomas (i believe 1999-2004) were recalled for similar corrosion issues. i am convinced this corrosion is due to a materiel defect, a design flaw, or both but i have not been able to get conclusive action from the toyota dealer to date. when i contacted toyota's corporate headquarters they said they could not help me, that i had to work this out with the dealer. it is just not right and, more important, just not safe.

My son and i were going to the courthouse. i do not know what component to blame the problem on, so i will just describe what happened. my son was a witness to the incident: i was trying to parallel park. my right foot was still pressing on the brake as i put the gear in r. when i did this, i heard an extremely loud whir from the rear wheels. i immediately put my truck in neutral. my truck was still not properly aligned in the parking spot: there was a car parked on the left that could hit me. i put the car in d. then i again heard an extremely loud whir from the rear wheels, so i pressed down completely on the brake, but my truck still moved forward and crashed into the car parked in front of me. my truck kept pushing into that car parked in front of me, so i immediately put my truck into parking gear and this stopped my truck. i took my truck to the toyota dealer and the dealer blamed the problem on the floormat. the dealer made the process of investigating the case and getting a satisfactory resolution too bureaucratic, so i just gave up and did not pursue the matter so i do not know what the case # is at the dealership. an example of the bureaucratic headache: i wanted to do a trade, but if i did that, i had to pay another $7,000, and i did not have that kind of money. there was another witness identified in the police report. according to the police report, this "witness #1 advised that he came to his vehicle and adjusted where he parked. he advised that as he was getting out, he observed vehicle #1's [my vehicle] tires began to spin. he jumped back into his vehicle and observed it [my vehicle] crash into the curb and vehicle #2." the police report ends with: "there were leaves on the ground around where the crash occurred."

We were pulling into a covered carport, and there was a bbq grill and house addition in front of us. my husband applied the brakes to his 2007 toyota tacoma and the vehicle accelerated causing us to hit the grill/addition that was in front of us. he had both feet jammed on the brake pedal and the vehicle did not stop until after we hit the grill/addition. this is the last time it happened because the vehicle is still sitting at the scene of the accident, we are too scared to drive it. toyota and the insurance company have been contacted. toyota recorded the complaint, told me that someone would call back in one business day...that did not happen i had to call them back. after reaching a person in the second claim department, he then took my statement again and said that the case was being transferred yet again and that someone would contact me in 10-14 business days. after that contact they will set up an inspection of the vehicle and toyota will issue a ruling 30 days after the inspection takes place. the gentleman said that he does not recommend that we fix the vehicle or drive it until the inspection takes place, but it is our choice. well the dealership refuses to fix the vehicle until toyota resolves the claim so our hands are tied. we are hoping that the vehicle gets repaired and that toyota can guarantee that this will not happen again. but for now we are just waiting, and paying on a vehicle we cannot drive while they take their good old time to call us and set up an investigation....very frustrating. we received the recall floormat notice on or about the week of 8/30/2010 but were moving on 9/17 so decided to wait until after the move to schedule the appt. needless to say that we didn't make it that far. i also feel it important to note that the floor mat is rubber has teeth on the back of it and was and is no where near the accelerator pedal. i do not believe that this is a floor mat issue i believe that this is a sudden acceleration issue. *tr

I have a toyota on recall for floor mats. i did not have the toyota floor mats, not provided when purchased. on 2/12/10 40k maintenance was done on my vehicle i expressed concern about the accelerate / brake issue that toyota was having said my vehicle was not on the recall list. i asked the adviser if the mechanic would please check the accelerator & brakes while performing the maintenance check, he stated he that it would be done with the inspection. upon receiving my toyota from the service adviser, i again asked if it had been done. he stated that my toyota was in perfect condition. prior to the accident, i did not notice any problem with either the accelerator or braking system. on the morning of 2/26/10 approximately 10:15 - 10:30 i was taking my child to school. i parked my toyota in a car space and took her to class. i returned to my vehicle to drive home. i was wearing my seat belt. i stepped on the brake, started the truck, shifted to reverse and gentle tapped the accelerator. the truck accelerated out of control at least 53 ft backwards into a tree. i tried to stop the vehicle with the brakes but the didn't work. i remember glancing forward for a split second to make sure my foot was completely on the brake pedal and applying additional pressure turning back around and then the back of my truck hit the tree. per police there was a 53 ft skid mark from one of my tires. tires were still spinning per witnesses after car hit the tree. i turned off the truck. at that point the fire & ambulance arrived and shortly after that the police. police report. i do not know the exact speed i was traveling. i do not know the exact mileage on the truck. *tr

The engine throttle controller on my 07 toyota tacoma does not release the throttle when the gas pedal is lifted. the engine continues to rev excessively. this is true at startup, between gear changes and when letting off the throttle to slow or stop. also, of greater concern is that the engine surges when attempting to slow the vehicle. after letting off the gas the engine initially slows but then abruptly the engine rpms surge propelling the vehicle ahead. i complained about this condition to my toyota dealer at the 5,000 and 10,000 mile services. both times they alleged that the engine was performing satisfactorily. the service manager tried to suggest the gas pedal was being caught on the floor mat but the mechanic dismissed that cause. the mechanic further informed me that this complaint was not uncommon and that a fix could be made by purchasing an after-market chip to be installed in the engine controller. toyota is totally in denial that the electronics are responsible for these engine revs and surges. the gas pedal fix is a farce. *tr

I own a 2007 toyota tacoma double cab 4x4 pick-up truck . i have been experiencing the following situation : when stopped in traffic my foot on the brake with either the heater , fan , or ac on ( one of these components on ) the engine will periodically surge and you can feel the truck want to move forward . it sometimes feels like someone tapped me from behind. my foot on the brake pedal stops the truck from moving forward. this only occurs when one of the above mentioned components is being used. it seems to be associated with engaging the above mentioned items. i had lakewood toyota of nj check it out however they were unable to reproduce the complaint at so they say. i'm very concerned about this situation because of the recent safety recalls. maybe there is a problem mechanically or with the software. this problem occurred immediately when the vehicle was new and continues today at 40,000 miles. please look into this and advise me on what to do. *tr

I was exiting the parking lot of home depot in barboursville, wv in my 2007 toyota tacoma 4x4 and when i attempted to stop for a vehicle to enter the parking lot, the engine revved up causing me to strike the incoming vehicle in the passenger side door. during the time before i could put the vehicle in neutral and turn of the engine, i was applying as much pressure on the brake pedal as i could and the tacoma was still moving into the other vehicle with the engine revving at a high rate. this is the only time this has happened in the vehicle since i bought it new in march 2007. the tacoma has been checked by the dealer where i purchased it and by toyota's field technician and according to toyota nothing was found. i have been denied access to the field technician's report twice. the only thing that was brought up after both reviews was floor mats. i can personally attest that the floor mats had nothing to do with the problem in my vehicle. the accelerator pedal was completely untouched by anything and the engine was still revving at a high rate. the problem appears to be in their electrical system and toyota refuses to acknowledge it. *tr

Driving my 2007 toyota tacoma (v6, 4-wd, automatic, access cab), i experienced sudden unintended acceleration as i was turning from w. seventh avenue in eugene, oregon onto northbound interstate-105. i was traveling at a safe rate of speed (approx. 20 mph) as i made the turn from the surface street to the left-hand, curving, on-ramp which is the beginning of an elevated freeway structure. it was mid-morning and, although there had been some light rain overnight, the pavement was dry. about halfway through the curve the tacoma inexplicably accelerated. the rear of the truck swung out to the left at which point it was moving sideways up the on-ramp. the front of the truck jumped the curb and the truck proceeded 20-30 feet sideways along the curb and eventually slid up a concrete wall where the curb transitions to the bridge rail of the elevated structure. just short of the start of the actual bridge railing the front right wheel and fender struck a tree. at this point, the vehicle bounced back, continued to rotate to the left and came to a rest, straddling the transition wall, having turned 150-170 degrees. at this point i realized the motor was still racing and i switched the engine off. my foot was on the brake pedal. the air bags did not deploy. no one was injured, no other vehicles were involved. police were called to provide traffic control while the vehicle was removed from the scene but no report was filed. i have lived within two-and-a-half miles of this intersection for more than 36 years. i have been through this intersection thousands of times as a private citizen and in my role as a transportation planner. i have been and am baffled by this incident. the collision damage was repaired. other than that all parts are original. original equipment toyota floor mats had been removed previously. *tr

My 2007 toyota tacoma, i had experiencing the engine revving quite high when my foot is on the brakes. this happened intermittently over the past 3 years. my other symptom is sometimes i feel like there is no brakes . that is i hit the brakes and nothing happens. i had to pump the brakes a few times.

Erratic cruise control operation. on slight to moderate uphill grade, the cruise control will often accelerate the vehicle to well over the set speed while holding near full throttle. if not monitored closely, the cruise control will continue to accelerate to 15-20mph over set speed. this has been most noted when the set speed is set to 70mph. this issue can be quite scary when the vehicle can reach speeds of 85-90mph while the throttle is still near full throttle. the system does not seem to be able to back off the throttle in an appropriate manner. if at the beginning of this acceleration sequence, the cruise is cancelled, then immediately re-set, the cruise will behave as expected and hold set speed. this has been addressed by the local toyota dealer and returned to me with no attempt to resolve with the statement that this is normal operation. the issue was then elevated to toyota customer care with the same response. *tw

Both seals in the rear differential of my 2007 toyota tacoma failed and had to be replaced. the leaking oil also required replacement of the brakes. the vehicle only had 52,000 miles at the time. *tr

I bought a new toyota tacoma in 2007. about a year ago, i noticed that the accelerator pedal would become hard to depress or would travel an inch or more before any result in acceleration. i took the vehicle to the toyota dealer where i bought it. they informed me that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. since that time, it happens on a random basis but virtually every day. no incidents have occurred. however, sometimes, as a result of the accelerator pedal travel as it is depressed down, the engine will kick in, resulting in a surge forward. additionally, when i am traveling along and have to let up on the accelerator pedal, when i press it down again, it does not respond until it is pushed down about an inch or so, making it difficult to maintain traveling speeds consistently. *tr

In my tacoma truck, after stopping at an urban intersection i depressed the gas pedal and the truck accelerated to a safe speed normally. i then removed my foot from the petal and the truck continued to accelerate reaching a very unsafe speed. i began to brake with all of my strength and finally got the truck to stop with the engine still running at some awesome rpm. i turned off the ignition and after waiting 5-10 min. restarted the truck and it responded normally. this problem has not happened again probably because i drive very slowly, never accelerate rapidly. this malfunction occurred when the truck was new with only 250 mi. on the odometer. after three years i have only 2,500 mi. on the odometer so you can see how much i trust this toyota ! *tr

I have a 2007 toyota tacoma double cab 4x4, all oem, no aftermarket equipment. i am having a problem very similar to the toyota prius braking issue. the problem is with the braking system. when in the situation i have to drive on the shoulder of the road and onto less stable surface, gravel, i can't stop!!!!!! yes, i realize the road surface is not stable usually gravel. but the truck doesn't slow down while the anti-lock brake booster is humming. i live on a single lane road and when an oncoming car is approaching i have to drive off of the pavement and onto the shoulder of the road. in this situation it is usually a surprise and yes i am applying the brakes but the truck will not stop. i tried my wife's honda crv in the same location on the shoulder of the same spot on the road. the honda crv stops like it should. i took my truck to my local toyota dealer this past week and explained the issue i am experiencing. they tried to diagnose the problem and charged me labor to diagnose the problem. the toyota dealer found nothing wrong with the trucks braking system. the tires are in very good shape just replaced 6 months ago, about 6k miles, on oem style tires. this morning i joined a toyota tacoma forum to see if other tacoma owners experienced the same issue. yes, there is other tacoma owners that have the same issue with their toyota tacoma's. how do we get this message to toyota that their tacoma's are dangerous? somebody is going to get injured or killed the way the truck is. i will not let my family members drive my truck until i have resolution to this problem. toyota needs to know that there is a braking system issue with the toyota tacoma and that the floor mat replacement will not fix it... i have not had a crash yet but a crash is immanent that i will be in a situation that i cannot steer out of. please help!!!! this truck is dangerous!!!!! *tw

On november 16, 2009, i pulled my 2007 toyota tacoma pickup into a parking space at a local walmart store parking lot and as i applied the brakes to stop, the engine accelerated causing a "forward bucking" motion forcing me into the car parked in the space in front of me. due to the damage to the car, i reported the incident to my insurance and also reported the matter to toyota customer service because similar incidents have occurred on prior occasions (and since) but no damage was done. i am aware of the floor mat recall by toyota for the pickup, but in my strong opinion, this "acceleration" issue is not caused by the floor mat. rather, i believe the issue is due to a faulty design of the brake pedal/system and/or the accelerator. the current design allows my foot to catch the accelerator when i apply the brake pedal. the accelerator and the brake pedal are less than 3 inches apart and the brake pedal is only about 1inch higher than the accelerator when neither part is being depressed. however, when pressing the brake pedal, it becomes level with the accelerator and if my foot is near the side of the pedal, my foot can also contact the accelerator, causing the engine to accelerate while the brake is being applied. this situation has occurred on at least four occasions, but only the one involved another vehicle. when i reported this matter to toyota, i was asked not to have the pickup repaired/checked until it could be inspected by a toyota technician. after eight weeks and several phone calls, nothing has happened. while i now know how to correct this problem when it occurs, another driver might not and a serious accident could result. moreover, my foot size is less than an 8 so a driver with a larger foot size could easily have similar or greater problems. i have driven numerous vehicles during my 50 plus years of driving experience and never encountered a similar situation!

I was driving my 2007 toyota tacoma, which is a 4 cylinder standard shift model, and approaching a stop sign with the clutch depressed and my other foot on the brake when the engine went to maximum rpm. i shut the ignition off immediately and looked at the accelerator which was all the way up. i then restarted the vehicle and it ran normally. a subsequent visit to the place where this happened revealed a utility pole with 3 transformers on it. the static from these transformer was so intense that it drowned out the radio. this incident would appear to contribute to the theory that electromagnetic interference is a possible factor in the toyota accelerator problem. no previous or subsequent problems have been experienced. *tr

On two or three occasions the brakes were soft on slow speed stops at intersections. the experience can be described as a rolling stop. i had to really stomp on the brakes to get them to grab and/or come to a complete stop. dealer examined the brakes an found nothing wrong. brakes still don't feel normal like other cars; they seem ok, but below average. i'm still very concerned over the braking ability on my 2007 toyota tacoma and wish a investigation to see if there is a link to accelerator/electronic problem. floor mat was not an issue at the time. *tr

I was traveling to a training op on hwy 301 south with 2 co-workers in my vehicle. i eased out to pass a vehicle and punched to gas to get on around him. the gas pedal stuck in the wide open position (or felt like wide open). it acelerated from about 50 mph to 100 mpg in such a short time, it seemed like seconds. i had heard a rumor that the floor mat may be the issue, so..while accelerating at an absolutely unbelievable speed, i attempted to re arrange my floor mat. i was scared to death, bent over, traveling at over 100 mph. omg. finally something happened and the vehicle pedal let go. i was visibly shaken as were my passengers. it scared my to death. *tr

I have a 2007 toyota tacoma. i have had one experience of the accelerator sticking. i was driving on a highway when all of a sudden the car was going like 80 mph, engine screaming - the brakes didn't respond at all. i was not in cruise control (i never use that) and i have just factory installed mats, which were not stuck under the accelerator. thank god the road was empty, i pulled over, put the car in neutral and shut it off. it didn't do it again so i forgot about it until all this news about so many people describing the exact same thing. i have a flawless driving record for 34 years, i can drive anything. the fact that toyota says tacoma not involved i do not believe for a second. they are lying. now i have to sell the car because it feels like an accident waiting to happen. please please investigate further the problem with the tacoma. thank you. *tr

Sunday after 2009 christmas, we went to church. as we pull into the church parking lot and getting ready to back in one of the parking lot and our car toyota tacoma accelerate all of sudden with rapid speed and slam into the rear bumper of another parked vehicle (honda accord). no one was hurt but our tacoma front bumper and honda's rear bumper was damaged. after that our truck brake light remain blinking and we can hear some clicking noise. we called police and reported the incident. we also left a note for honda's owner to call police for further claim to fix they bumper. the following monday, we took our truck to nearest toyota dealer (lakenorman toyota dealer over huntersville, nc) to have them check on our truck. the technician had to adjust something with brake and he told us that, the accident was likely caused by brake or gas pedal being stuck. i requested him to put that in writing and he was not willing to do so. we requested statefarm claim adjuster to file the claim to toyota's claim department and they sent letter. *tr

Truck frame has extensive rust and it's just a 2007 model. i have had it at the toyota dealership more than once and they said they would not undercoat the truck unless the state of tennessee makes them do it. i was told at time of purchasing the truck that undercoating was not necessary because the frame is electrostatic charged to resist rust. the dealership said they would get an independent third party to look at the truck but they never have. the people i buy tires from have told me that the truck is badly rusted on the frame---something they don't see on a vehicle so new. also, the truck is not driven much---i have another vehicle i drive to work----so the rust issue is not due to bad weather driving conditions. after all the recent news stories about toyota products, it appears they have a quality issue and no effective means of dealing with the problems until something tragic happens. *tr

My 2007 toyota tacoma it showing excessive rusting on the frame. it actually leaks rusty water whenever the vehicle is driven in the rain. a toyota fts stated in his report that "the vehicle shows normal rust for a vehicle that's been driven for several winters in upstate new york". my truck was only driven 2 winters and only has 23,000 miles on it. i know of someone who had a 2005 that was purchased from him for 125% of bluebook for the same reason. i have spoken with several other tacoma owners online and hear the same from them. this is a serious issue and has been with toyota since 1995. they have had recalls for both tacoma and tundra pickups for this reason. toyota will do nothing for me. the dealer offered to undercoat the frame but i'm concerned the undercoating will cover up the rust that is inside the frame and make things worse. *tr

Moving very slowly downhill on a snow-covered driveway. depressed brake pedal, but abs failed to engage. brakes locked-up instantly, causing an approximately 200ft slide, hitting utility pole and guard rail. about one week later, brakes locked again (abs failed to engage), but i was ready for it and immediately let off and reapplied pressure. this time abs did engage. i have since tested the brakes on slick surfaces in safe zones. only three times did abs fail, and the two times that i let off and re-applied the brakes, the abs engaged at that point in time. each time the abs failed, it was while moving downhill. the issue for me is that i do not know how to react when braking in critical situations: do i pump the brakes as for w/o abs, or steadily hold brakes as one would with functioning abs. i took the vehicle (2007 toyota tacoma) to dealer, but they said brakes looked ok. *tr

Accelerator moving to wide open position and sticking. intermittently occurs. toyota motors sent recall notice for mats only and the mats aren't what caused the problem. i had and still have dealer installed mats in my vehicle. the notice for the mats was sent a couple of months ago and i have yet heard from toyota but it appears that they are not including tacoma's in the recall and my tacoma did not accelerate on it own because of the mat. it moved without any outside force and it has also stuck in the wide open position when i have tried to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed. *tr

After pulling into a parking spot, prior to changing the gear from drive to park, the engine revved up violently on it's own. my foot was no longer on the accelerator. luckily, i was able to apply hard and fast pressure to the brake pedal as soon as the engine roared, and put the truck in park before lurching into the brick wall in front of me. i turned the truck off, and restarted it. it started normally, and i had no more problems with it. this happened in the summer of 2009, and hasn't happened since. i marked it up as being some strange eletro-mechanical anomoly, but after receiving toyota's ridiculous 'floor-mat' explanation and hearing how wide-spread this problem was, i wanted to go on record that the 2007 toyota tacoma suffers from the same unexplained safety hazard as the vehicles listed in the january 2010 toyota recall. it would have been bad enough hitting that wall, but someone could have been walking in front of me. this is not a good thing. *cn

On 1 dec 2009 i was driving behind a lebanon riii district school bus at approximately 3pm on washington ave in lebanon mo. i was driving my 2007 toyota tacoma at approximately 20-25 mph when the school bus began to slow to make a left turn. i was approximately 30 feet behind the bus and lifted my foot off the accelerator to coast my truck and then began to brake when the bus stopped to make its turn. when i applied the brakes the truck did not slow, instead it kept at about the same speed despite pressure on the brake pedal. at first i thought i had brake failure and pushed harder on the pedal and was practically standing on the pedal when i impacted the rear of the bus. the crash resulted in minor damage to the bus, but major damage to the tacoma ($8k). there were no injured children on the bus, however, some parents took their child to a doctor for a check-up. eye witnesses of the accident verified that i tried to stop the tacoma and could not. additionally, there was approximately 20 feet of fresh tire skid mark behind the truck which indicated the brakes worked as intended. the crash occurred after both vehicles had crossed a series of railroad tracks at a train crossing. i called toyota later on in the day to report the accident and followed up by mailing a narrative description of the accident, police report and insurance adjuster's estimate of damages to the truck on 15 dec 09. toyota also send a representative to investigate the truck who inturn filed a report with toyota hq. i received response from toyota on 20 jan 10 and their report said that they could not find any manufacturer defect with the tacoma which could have caused the accident. i believe they are in error and believe there may be a software problem with the ecu or accelerator control module which may have been affected by radio signals or electron signals by the train crossing.*tr

I have a 2 1/2 year old toyota tacoma that i purchased new in april 2007 from lebrun toyota in canandaigua, ny. about a month ago i noticed 4 rust stains on my new garage floor directly under the frame weep holes on the tacoma. i made an appointment at lebrun to have it looked at. i was told that the tacoma should not be doing that but that they also had no idea on how to proceed. the service manager offered to have it undercoated using the same process they are currently using on the older tacoma's and tundra's that are under recall for the same issue. i declined the undercoating because i felt it was covering up the rust only to appear again in a few years after my warranty expires. the service manager agreed to have my tacoma looked at by a toyota fts. today the toyota fts, rob brown, looked at my truck and stated the rusty water coming out of the frame and staining my garage floor would be happening on any 2 1/2 year old truck whether it was a ford, chevy, or dodge. i told rob that i have owned older vehicles previously and have never had this problem. rob ignored me and again stated this was normal for my tacoma. his official report stated that this rust is normal for a vehicle that has seen several winters. my tacoma has seen exactly 2 winters. i currently have a complaint in with the nys attorney general's office. i am looking for some assistance to help me force toyota to repair my truck as no 2 1/2 year old vehicle with only 22,580 miles should be rusted in the frame. *tr

My 2 1/2 year old toyota tacoma with 22188 miles needed the rear brakes adjusted today. i asked that why they needed to be adjusted because i know drum brakes have an automatic adjuster whenever the emergency brake is used that i use quite often. i was told by the technician that "although my tacoma is equipped with an automatic rear brake adjuster, all tacoma's do not self adjust. the failure of this to not adjust caused me to have to pump the brakes before getting full braking power. when asked why they would not fix them i was also told that then they would need to issue recalls for all toyota tacoma's because the problem is widespread. *tr

2007 toyota tacoma 4x4 ext cab pickup. on 12/5/09 i hit an icy patch and went off road and hit a tree. traveling approx 40 mph. no airbags deployed. hit the tree in the exact center of the hood of truck. vehicle was a total loss. subsequent inquiries to toyota have resulted in two explanations for non-deployment. a) airbags are designed to go off on rapid deceleration (i told them i hit a tree) b) airbags are designed to go off when the engine breaches the firewall and enters the cab (i told them if the engine was coming into the cab, i would be screwed) they sent me a nhtsa airbag brochure that pretty much told me what i already know about airbags and totally contradicted what they told me about airbags. i know there was a recall of 05 & 06 mechanisms. maybe i got an early 07 that used one. i don't know. i am not buying a toyota anymore. *tr

The truck leaves 4 rust stains on the garage floor after using the truck in the rain. the 4 rust spots are under the frame weep holes. the dealer looked at it today and stated that the truck should not be rusted like that with only 22,188 miles and only 2 1/2 years old, but they stated they did not know what they could do about it. *tr

On november 27, 2009, my boyfriend and i were driving my 2007 toyota tacoma home after attending a football game at auburn university. my boyfriend was driving and as he was accelerating to pass a semi, my tacoma¿s accelerator sucked to the floor, pushing my vehicle to dangerous speeds nearly causing us to rear-end the vehicle in front of us. he was unable to get the vehicle to stop using the brake and was unable to pry the accelerator up with the toe of his shoe. he resorted to putting the vehicle in neutral and turning it off. we were terrified, in heavy traffic and in a vehicle we no longer felt safe driving. approximately an hour after the first incident, the truck suddenly accelerated again. as we were speeding up after being stopped at a red light, the vehicle surged pulling the accelerator away from my boyfriend's foot to the floor. he resorted, again, to putting the vehicle in neutral in order to stop it. we took the tacoma to toyota of dothan the next morning to determine what the problem was. the dealership kept the vehicle nearly a week to determine the problem. they reported that the floor mat must have been caught under the gas pedal. i know for a fact the mat was not under the accelerator. i had read reports prior to the incident where misplaced floor mats were causing the accelerator to hang and i had pulled the mat in my vehicle back into a secure location. i talked to my boyfriend; he reported that the mat was in its proper place when the incident occurred. *tr

Sudden acceleration of my 2007 tacoma, more then once when i came to a stop, the truck would suddenly accelerate, it happened at a stop just before my accident and a school bus was going though the intersection. when i got out of my truck at a public storage gate a minute latter and got back in and waited for the gate to open i suddenly had a unintended acceleration of my 2007 toyota tacoma, when i hit the break it went faster, i had to put it in park to stop the back wheels from spinning, the gate was totaled from my truck. i was not even driving and it took off on its own! i had toyota inspect it and they could not find anything wrong, i have not had any accidents for 20 years, now my insurance rates are high, please investigate this, it is not a wrong peddle problem. it also happened once before and i had less then 5000 miles on the tacoma, but the road was wet so i was not sure if it was the road. it was less then a year old when it happened again, and i was gone to take it to the dealer after i almost hit the school bus, but didn't get the chance. i had to stop at the storage place and that was where i ran into the gate. i since had a voluntary repo and gave it back, i would not drive it and feel safe again. *tr

I was driving from tucson to queen creek on highway 79. i set my cruise control to 65 and enjoyed the ride. i came around a bend in the road, and there was a pickup pulling a trailer a few hundred yards ahead going much slower than 65. i tapped on the brake to disengage the cruise control, and slowed down to ~ 50 before i could pass due to oncoming traffic. once the road was clear, i accelerated by pushing the resume feature of the cruise control. the truck accelerated, and i was waiting to feel the overdrive gear kick in but it did not. the truck kept accelerating past 90 mph. i looked down to the gas pedal to see if it was blocked or obstructed and it was not but i could feel gas pedal was flat against the floor. i first tapped on the break again but the truck kept speeding up. i turned off the cruise control, but the truck kept speeding up. at close to 100 mph i put the truck in neutral and tried to get the truck off to the side of the road, but it felt as though the brakes were not working. i got the truck stopped by placing both feet on the brake. the engine was running at ~6000 rpm so i looked at things i thought might be obvious such as an obstruction of the gas pedal, but the pedal was clear and un obstructed. i looked under the truck to look for anything leaking or broken and everything looked fine. i turned off the engine, let the truck sit a minute, then started it again. i drove my wife home, and went straight to the toyota dealer. the dealer told me they couldn't find anything wrong but said the floor mat was obstructing the gas pedal. i can assure you that this is the first thing i checked when i realized the cruise control wasn't disengaging the engine. i checked it again once i got the truck to stop. if i had seen the pedal was obstructed, i wouldn't be filling out the complaint form and chalked it up to checking the floor mat before driving. this was the scariest situation i have ever had behind the wheel of any vehicle. *tr

2007 toyota tacoma double cab 4x4...pulled up to a stop sign, stopped, nudged forward to see intersection better, engine rpm's spiked, gas pedal floored itself...i placed both feed on the break pedal with every ounce of leg strength to keep the truck from going into intersection...rear wheels were spinning while both feet on break pedal. truck inched toward intersection with oncoming traffic coming both ways...suddenly the gas pedal returned to normal position and wheels stopped spinning. this could have easily killed me and other drivers approaching in the intersection. service department could find nothing wrong with vehicle. *tr

Two incidents: 7/9/09 heading down to the keys on us 27 about 6pm. cruise control set at 60 for several miles (had been raining. speed limit is 65mph). back end starts to pass me on right. i am now sliding south bound facing east. i cut wheels to right. this works great. in no time at all, i am skidding southbound facing west. i notice i am not slowing down even though my foot was not on gas (cruise control). i cut my wheels to the left and spun back around again sliding southbound facing east. i went off onto the shoulder. i could see mud and grass in passenger window until i hit the guardrail with r side of bumper. this impact apparently disengaged the cruise control (?) and launched me across both south bound lanes of us 27 where i began to come to a stop. i stomped the gas to get out of on coming traffic and again spun to the right coming to rest in the median as 2 cars passed me. at the time, i thought it strange that the cruise control did not disengage when the wheels started spinning on the wet road. none the less, i wrote this off as me being a ¿!@#$% for using the cruise control when the road was too wet. now, in light of the 7-22-09 accident, i am not so sure it was the cruise control, or that i am such a ¿!@#$%. 7/22/09 about 7:15am as i completed the turn, the truck (i now call my truck christine) accelerated. when i reached the desired speed, i took my foot off gas but continued to speed up. i tried applying the brakes, but that didn't work out so i stomped on the brakes causing me to fishtail to the right so i let up on the brakes to regain control and i was still accelerating! as i continued to accelerate, i hit (pulled the knob toward me) the cruise control (which i had not engaged previously) thinking i might be having a repeat of 2 weeks ago, but that didn't work either and i continued to accelerate. i put gear selector into neutral (i thought) but continued to accelerate. i overturned in a ... *tr

I was initially traveling on a two lane country road and had the cruise control set at 55 mph. as i approached a four lane divided highway ahead i was required to stop, thus disengaging the cruise control. i pulled onto the four lane highway and floored the accelerator to quickly reach the 65 mph speed limit. when i was at the speed limit i eased off of the pedal in order to cruise at 65. the vehicle continued to accelerate. at this point i realized that the accelerator pedal was "glued" to the floor. thinking it was stuck, i stomped on it a couple of times hoping to free it. this was to no avail. in these few seconds i had reached approximately 95 mph. i had forgotten that the cruise control was still on but not set. i turned off the ignition and coasted to the side of the road. i have no idea if the cruise control was the culprit ,however, my impression was that the throttle linkage was not binding, but again, i do not really know. i can think of no circumstances where this could be considered normal. i tried to duplicate the condition with the cruise both on and off but was unable to. i plan on notifying toyota also. *tr

I've noticed that my 2007 toyota tacoma extended cab will on occasion lurch forward while at a complete stop. it seems to happen when the air conditioner or defrost unit is activated. i assume it is the increase in engine speed when the compressor kicks in. to date i just have to push harder on the brake peddle. i hope it doesn't get any worse. when it happens as it does suddenly, it usually catches you off guard. if your reaction time isn't fast enough or you panic, you could lose control of the vehicle. when it happens, the vehicle will usually move about 6" ahead. *tr

I have had a number of incidents where the rpm's and the speed of my 2007 tacoma truck have shot up (run away uncontrolled) when i removed my foot from the accelerator pedal. the rpm's will ramp up and exceed 4500 in a matter of a second or two. the speed of the truck increases proportionally with the rpm's to 85+ mph. it is difficult to observe the exact readings of rpm?s and speed, because all my attention is needed trying to control a situation where i might be killed in a head on collision with another vehicle or permanent fixtures along the road or freeway. the only way i have of avoiding a crash because of the excessive speed is to depress my clutch at which time the rpm?s go up even higher and then i brake extra heavy and pull off to the side of the freeway before shutting down the engine. upon engine restart, i have no indication of having had any problem. i also experienced the instantaneous ramping up of rpm?s while stopped at a stop sign. i had one foot on the brakes and the other depressing the clutch. again, i have to turn the ignition off to stop the run away rpm problem. it is only a matter of time that i feel i will be involved in a serious accident because of this problem. i have no other vehicle to drive and have been less than successful in having toyota take the vehicle back. *tr updated 06/15/10.*jb

New 07 toyota tacoma access cab 2wd with 400 miles on it emits loud wind noise from windshield area at freeway speeds around 70mph+. sound was more like a screech than a whistle and will likely distract most drivers from focusing on road as it did me. i drove it around for the first few weeks of ownership to make sure it wasn't an isolated incident and found the problem could be re-produced about 90% of the time on the freeway at the right speed. took it to dealership and they advised they had just received a tsb about it being a bad seal on the windshield. (i did not find the tsb on the internet yet, but it could be quite new and not yet posted) as the truck is well under warranty, they promptly arranged to have the windshield completely re-sealed. it's only been one day since, but so far the problem appears to be repaired. tacoma owners should be aware of this issue as it could present a safety problem just by how distracting it is while driving. *tr

When stopped at idle engine speed, my 2007 toyota tacoma dbl cab prerunner v6 will surge / lunge suddenly. although i have the brakes firmly applied, the truck will still move a little bit. i've damaged personal property because of it. no injuries (yet), but it'll sure get your attention when it happens. also, the truck will sometimes accelerate a bit when you have taken your foot off of the gas. nothing drastic, but it shouldn't do this. this is a major concern with me; enough that i won't let anyone else drive my vehicle for fear it may startle them and they may lose contrrol of it. this happens very frequently.

2007 toyota tacoma 4 dr. 4x4:the low beam headlights are designed with only illumination on the lower part of the roadway blocking short distance, night time visibility with a black line and dangerously limiting reaction time. when going down an inclined roadway that approaches an uphill change in the cartway, there is no opportunity to see more than thirty (30) yards in front of the vehicle due to a distinct loss of visibility created by a shield in the headlight lens assembly directly in front of the lamp bulb. there was no consideration given to driving on hilly roads when this headlight was designed. one would never have enough reaction time to avoid hitting a pedestrian or animal, even driving at thirty (30) mph due to the very dark line in the headlight system created on low beam only. there are many times when one cannot drive just with the high beams. this is a very dangerous design and presents a very serious night time safety visibility issue. toyota should recall these vehicle from 2005-2007 to replace the headlight assembly before someone is killed. i have never seen such an engineering blunder that was not known during daytime test drives. *jb updated 01/07/08. *lj updated 12/12/07

I was driving my new 2007 toyota tacoma on the highway. i went to accelerate to pass another vehicle when my truck suddenly went completely out of control(as if the cruise control had taken over) the gas pedal *pushed itself* to the floor. the truck was accelerating as fast as it could go, rpm past 7000(completely red lining). i applied the brake which did nothing, truck just kept accelerating to top speeds. i had both feet on the brake with all my strength to keep from crashing into other cars on the highway. counterbalancing it at about 60-70 mph(while the brakes were smoking). i tried pumping the brake, but the second i took my foot off, it kept accelerating faster trying to go 120 mph. somehow riding the brake as hard as i could i weaving in and out of traffic i got into the brake down lane. still not able to stop the vehicle i threw it in park, which stopped it, but the gas pedal was still stuck to the floor. engine was screaming, rpm at 7000, and the tires are spinning burning rubber. i then turned the truck off, turned it back on and it was still doing the same thing until i realized the gas pedal was actually stuck so i hit it and it released. once i unstuck the pedal the vehicle seemed ok so i drove home very cautiously. when i as almost home i accelerated with a little to much juice and it did the same thing a second time. the pedal took over and floored itself, accelerating to top speed and top rpm's. this time i immediately turned the vehicle off, unstuck the pedal and again carefully finished my drive home. reported the incident the next morning. they said nothing is wrong with it, after a month of fighting traded the truck in. *jb *dsy

Over a period of several months after purchasing a new 2007 toyota tacoma, i experienced five incidents of brake/acceleration problems finally resulting in a crash. first incident: stopped at a traffic light with my foot on the brake, the truck lunged forward a few feet. the dealership told me they could not find any problem. a month later, stopped in a gas station drive with my foot on the brake waiting to exit, the rear wheels began spinning out of control. i pressed on the brake as hard as i possibly could to keep from entering traffic. three weeks later, approaching the bottom of a hilly sharp turn, i tapped the brakes to slow down. again the rear wheels accelerated to a high rate of speed. i could not stop the truck to keep from striking a van in front of me so i crossed over a double yellow line to avoid a collision. it took about a thousand yards to gain control. the dealership said, "we can't fix the problem" until we can duplicate it". i called toyota of america, again only to be told that toyota could do nothing. the fourth incident occurred on an entrance ramp to a highway. i tapped the brakes to slow down. the vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed. i got it under control quickly. finally the fifth and final incident. coming out of nashville where it was raining hard, i got further northbound on the i-24 where it was raining less and the pavement was wet. while in the shoulder lane, a vehicle in the left lane started moving over to the right causing me to tap my brakes. the rear wheels accelerated to a very high rate of speed causing the truck to hydroplane. the rear end of the truck spun around to the left and, still accelerating on its own, drove into the embankment, first skidding sideways then the truck began to roll several times. it struck a rut causing it to go airborne finally landing on its roof. it rolled several more times coming to a stop in a ditch on the drivers door. i was transported to the hospital. *jb

I purchased my truck from toyota of waldorf on july 19, 2007. on the way home from the dealer i noted a severe wind whistle at approximately 60 mph and above. at this time the truck had 800 miles on it. the following day, august 16, 2007, while driving the truck i stopped for a red traffic signal. while stopped at the signal the truck remained in drive. when the light turned green, i accelerated and the vehicle momentarily acted as if it was in neutral slamming into gear and lurching forward. thereafter, the problem repeated itself the entire trip home. the vehicle also was shifting erratically. i also noted after the incident, having set the odometer to zero the last time i filled the tank with gas, that i was getting approximately 9 miles to the gallon in mostly highway driving. the truck also has never seemed to track the road easily. i reported all of the above problems to the dealers (waldorf toyota) service departments representatives mary prichett and jim clemens. they had the truck towed to their facility, waldorf toyota for repair. i believe it was august 20, 2007 that i notified toyota in california. nicole of toyota's customer experience center assigned me case number 200708201412. the following day i was contacted by my toyota assigned case manager kevin spillane. as i understand it, from mike pavin, the service manager, waldorf toyota's is trying to repair the vehicle. additionally i was informed august 21, 2007 by mike pavin that a new transmission was being installed in the truck. the new transmission was installed and tested and i was informed aug. 24, 2007 by the service manager that they are still getting the trouble code and still have no fix for the problem. this is a major safety issue. i believe that someone is going to be killed unless the federal government makes toyota own up and fix this problem. i o be killed because this some ei repairs are continuing. i still do not have my truck back. *tr

This e-mail concerns the operation of the cruise control system, and concerns all vehicles that operate this way. i recently purchased a new truck with a 4 cylinder automatic with a cruise control. i was not told and did not know that the cruise will activate the passing gear to help maintain the speed of car. the concern that i have about this is, if you are set at 70 mph and have a blowout before you can tell what has happened the cruise control can activate the passing gear and easily cause the vehicle to go out of control, and when hitting the brake to stopped cruise and the car could loose it. i am telling you about this because there have been a number of cars that have wrecked because of loosing control and jumping the medium and so on. this could have been the cause. also i have found that the cruise kicked in the passing gear on most hills when set than when it was not set.. i have retraced my path on a given stretch and with the cruise control off there was only one hill that it needed more help to maintain the same speed. someone of authority needs to investigate these problems. i believe this can be a very serious thing. *ak

Truck lurches forward when a/c conpressor engages while stopped. it is so severe that the truck moves forward and creates a potential risk for an accident

My truck a 2007 toyota tacoma double cab, lurks forward a bit when air conditioning (a/c )is on. this happens when at stop even with foot on the brake. i suspect this occurs when a/c compressor kicks in as it recycles. couple of times either i almost bumped the car that stopped in front of me or hit a pedestrian walking right in from of me. i never experienced any of it on other vehicles. it just makes me concerned. i thought i was the only one experienced this on tacoma truck, but noticed almost all of tacoma owners agreed with this problem(according to internet forum, toyotanations.com. i will be visiting the dealer very soon ,but heard from other people that they were told by the dealer that it was just normal. my safety concern regarding the truck led me to file this complaint. please note that this problem is ongoing .i can't remember when i first used a/c on my vehicle. thank you. *ak

This is not a failure, but something i see as a safety issue.. when i am stopping at a stop light/ stop sign and am in driv with the air conditioner (a/c) on the truck will surge forward and i have to push the brakes down harder. this only happens when the a/c is on, and seems to come from the increase in engine rpms when the compressor kicks on. this is very unsafe and could cause me to rear end someone. *ak

2007 toyota tacoma double cab offroad 4x4 . vehicle surges (rpm increases 200-300 rpm)when in gear at a stop. doesn't matter if ac is on or off. this has caused numerous near accidents with vehicles in front of me, my garage door and the work bench in my garage. vehicle idles extremely fast (1500 rpm) when cold which is dangerous on slippery roads and has caused me to slide through stop signs. vehicle idles rough, doesn't matter if ac is on or off. vehicle has a harsh stutter shift between 1st and 2nd. vehicle has a very noticeable vibration at speeds between 15 and 25 mph. this vibration occurs when accelerating, driving at a constant speed or decelerating. the vibration occurs whether braking or not. the vehicle feels like it is engine braking when letting up on the accelerator. this is most noticeable at speeds 40 mph or slower. it is a safety hazard on icy roads. all these problems began after the vehicle had 500 miles on it. the dealer was made aware of these issues and test drove the vehicle. the dealer said they could not detect any of the problems. also, the original equipment tires are terrible in snow. *jb

I bought a 07 toyota tacoma double cab with automatic transmission in february. i have noticed on multiple occasions that while sitting stopped,a/c off, right foot on brake, the truck suddenly surged against the brakes. i think if i had not had firm pressure on the brake pedal the truck would have actually moved forward. i became aware of other tacoma owners experiencing this on the internet toyota forums. the incident date below is just the last time it happened. *ak

On march 24th i drove to a neighboring town about 120 miles away in my new toyo tacoma 4x4 2007. i did my shopping, and every time i exited the vehicle i would smell the odor of burnt rubber. i would then inspect my tires (exterior) and there did not appear to be any problems. i drove home that evening okay, but when i arrived at home, i again smelled the burnt rubber odor. the next day, i used the truck off road to get a bundle of firewood (under 15 pounds). but, on my way over i had a blow out on the front driver's side tire. we took off the tire and found that the tire had wear marks on the inside of the tire caused by protruding metal off of the a-frame. we changed the tire and put on the spare. i returned home, and became concerned. i took a look at the other passenger side tire and also noticed that there was also a protruding piece of metal also beginning to tear into the right tire. i called the dealership where i purchased my vehicle, and they advised me to get the truck into the shop to have their technicians take a look at the matter. i am a little concerned, being that i have no spare tire, and my nearest toyota dealership is 120 miles away one way. but, all in all, i think the defect is in the a-frame, where a piece of metal was overlooked in being grinded down before complete assembly. this defect could have caused some major damage and injury, luckily, i usually drive under 60 mph. i hope more people that do purchase a 4x4 toyo tacoma take a good look at their front suspension a-frame before purchase, so they themselves don't have a blow out. i plan on getting my truck to the toyo dealership as soon as possible. *jb

Vehicle has a extreme high idle and or high transmission head pressure. vehicle only indicates approx 600-700 idle rpm's warm, however; when letting off the gas vehicle wants to lurch and take off. very uneasy in stop and go traffic, feels like driver is about to loss control and strike the vehicle ahead. took to dealer and advised this is a normal condition. this was also verified by testing 2 other like vehicles(07/v6/automatic) *jb

I was driving on interstate 55. i went to pass a semi truck. my speed at this time was 65 mph. i stepped on the accelerator and started to change lanes, the transmission down shifted to a passing gear and the throttle was wide open and it stayed that way. i shut off the ignition and turned it back on, the throttle was still wide open. i tried this a total of three times, now i am going well over 80 mph. i finally left the ignition off and coasted over to the side of the road. my wife asked what had just happened and i told her that the throttle was stuck open. i asked her to look on the floor so she could she nothing was stuck anywhere near the accelerator pedal. i might add the cruise control was not on. i restarted the truck and cautiously went to our dinner engagement. after dinner we used extreme caution on our way back home. i tried several times to replicate the problem. it never did produce itself on our return trip. i called toyota on monday morning and after telling them the problem they wanted me to drive the truck back to the dealer i refused. i made them come tow it. it was checked out by the field engineer and was returned to me. they said nothing was found to be out of order. but went into detail that the floor mats were not installed correctly. this truck had 149 miles on it. it was only 4 days old. *jb

At highway speeds, the throttle sticks open causing the engine to continue at high rpm and the vehicle won't slow down. in heavy traffic, there is great safety problem. *nm

I was driving down hill along about 50 km/h. i noticed stop lights and cars spinning and sliding everywhere. i gently took my foot off the throttle to start engine braking and as usual nothing happens immediately. worse, truck started to accelerate because of rpm hang problem on every manual transmission equipped model (my complaint to dealer was ignored twice). this is not exactly a place where you can push the brakes even with abs because it also is an off slope turn. instead of slowing down gracefully, the rpm hang actually acts like a cruise control. combined with the downhill and the rpm hang i am not decelerating at all! suddenly the ecu finally decides to close the throttle (fuel cut off). at this point truck tail of my truck slide to the right and to the left. only my 20 year experience and good luck let me avoid a fatal accident. the non-linear throttle response is not safe. this is just dangerous how the ecu is programmed! maybe because only <10% of all trucks have manual transmissions toyota doesn't want to hear about it. toyota must issue ecu patch for manual transmission models v6 tacoma, fj cruiser to eliminate: 1. rpm hang when shifting 2. high rpm (1450) when rolling downhill in neutral or with clutch depressed 3. make linear throttle response. *jb

I was stopped waiting for oncoming traffic at rt. 136 west newton pa. with my foot on the brake the truck accelerated so hard the brake would not hold it even with full pressure applied. the oncoming car missed me by inches. after trying to get toyota to take care of it with no luck, i traded the truck in with only 3000 miles on it. i am very concerned that the truck will be sold to someone that may have the same problem and not be as fortunate as i was. *jb see also 10180652 *dsy
