My dashboard is melting and disturbing vision through glare on windshield

I had my Altima serviced at the dealership for as long as I have owned the car and was never informed about the CVT transmission issues. Over the last few years I mentioned that the vehicle whined when I accelerated on the highway. Then my transmission failed at 136,000 miles. I started looking into this issue and learned that Nissan was aware of the problem and extended the warranty on the transmission to 10 years or 120,000 miles. I called the manufacturer direct and they would not honor the warranty. How convenient for Nissan that they never recommended fixing the transmission when the symptoms first appeared while it was under warranty.

The CVT began making a loud noise coming from the front end. Did not attempt to repair due to the high cost of the repair.

After 120800 mi8lea my cvt transmission is going out upset Nissan never put out a recall for the problem they knew about now I am stuck having to purchase a new vehicle due to the fact my cars value isn\'t even worth what dealer is charging me to fix problem Nissan should be held accountable

with 91000 miles on my car the transmission when bad was cover under warranty but was told I am 175 on the list of back order and it may take 30 to 40 days to get the part but I am 300 + miles away from home this type of service is unacceptable service note this is a extended warranty they gave that was 10 years or 125000 miles the car just shot all the transmission fluid out while going up a hill was able to get to the side of the road I was luckey it did not catch fire this happen after 300 mile of travel that day

all the sudden I started hearing really loud rattling noises it started off faint at first no indicating light came on to let me know what the issue was. So I took it in to my mechanic and he put it on the machine and found out the code said it was the transmission. He was in the process of ordering the part but, suggested I check with Nissan corporate and see if that transmission had a warranty because he was aware of transmission under extended warranty I did and they refused to cover it because I was over 1000 miles of the warranty which is only two weeks more of driving. If I would have known about the warranty and the extended warranty I would have taken in a lot sooner. Within a week as I was driving my car started shaking and I was on a busy main street driving home with my one year old in the back seat and the car would not move or accelerate. not only did thisaffect my driving ability also he could have created a really bad safety issue I had to push my own car and -20 below weather in Chicago off to the side towards safety because I could have got hit from behind or any direction because I was stuck in the middle of a busy main street with lots of cars passing by I had to get to a safe place and have a tow truck tow it back to my house while my one year old was crying in the back scared and confused

The whole sway bar broke on my car. I haven’t even had it a whole year yet. I brought it used from the pence nissan place on midlothian turnpike in Virginia. I took the car down yesterday 4/10/2012, to see if they could take a look at it and i was told that they were too booked to take a look at it even though i have a piece of metal hanging from the back of my car on the rear passenger side. Then he saw the expression on my face and he decided to come out side and take a look at it. He told me exactly what was wrong with it. The sway bar had broken. He stated that he could do anything until next saturday 04/21/2012. I asked him if it was safe to drive because i have 2 small kids and he stated yes it is if you don’t go far or go around curves fast. That upset me. I told him that i took a chance bringing the car to them. I live about 45mins from where a brought the car. As i research the part that broke ive come across a whole lot of peeple with the same problem. Some go back as far as 2008. Im very upset that Nissan hasn’t issued a recall on this issue. Its a manufacture defect. The sway bar is so thin that it can’t support the tension that is being put on it. I feel that they need to issue a recall. If i have an accident and me or my kids get hurt somebody is getting sued!!!!!!!!!!

Vehicle taken to shop for the power windows no properly working 2 times, enternal antenna replaced for radio fading out, car would not start after setting 2 days taken in twice, made noise when turning ac off replaced the heater box, dvd player playing in black and white, replaced dvd, rattle noise still happing, said a heat shield needed to replaced and waiting on the part to be manufatored. been in the shop for 24 total days requested a repurchase under local lemon law and still have not hear anything (over 2 weeks now) Need help as i am moving (Military) out of state

2 weeks after I purchased the car the service engine soon light came on. I took it in to the dealer and they told me it was because of the my getting gas, that was service engine warning came on a week after I got gas. They reset it and I picked my car up. 2 days later I got into an accident, the accelerator stuck when I was backing up and I hit another car. Took the car back to the dealer again, they could not find anything wrong, this happened in my 2005 Altima as well but no one got hurt and I didn\’t hit another car.

Dear Sir/Ms., I would like to inform you that my car (2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid) accelerated suddenly and abruptly (first forward and then backwards), full throttle, on February 21, 2010, when I was trying to park it in the garage. The brakes failed and the air bags did not deploy during this incident. As a result, there was a major damage to the car, our home and personal property. The costs for repair of our home and car, and replacement of personal property are enormous (>$30K). I believe that this incident was caused by defective electronics/computer/ electrical systems installed in the car. Nissan has inspected the car, but has not taken any responsibility or accountability. I do not consider this vehicle safe, and accordingly, I do not intend to get it repaired. At the same time, I do not have another vehicle for use, and as a result I am immobile and going through great difficulties. Nissan has refused to cooperate and resolve this matter. I would like Nissan to take responsibility/accountability, pay for the damages to my home and personal property, take this car back, pay for an alternate vehicle, and waive all future payments to Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC), or refund all monies paid so far to NMAC by me. Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. whenever someone sits in the front passenger seat, the air bag light would flash indicating that the air bag was deactivated. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer on march 9th to have the front passenger seat air bag sensor replaced. in december the problem recurred with the front passenger air bag light indicating that the air bag was off. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the air bag light and sensor and they sent a technician to diagnose the vehicle. the technician could not recreate the problem with the air bag light or sensor; therefore, the manufacturer will not repair the vehicle. the contact is concerned about the risk involved due to the air bag sensor malfunctioning and the potential for a serious injury in the event a crash occurs. the failure mileage was 15,211.

I own a 05 altima. recently i was hit from rear, no injury, but air bag light came on. the car was sent for repairs and i was told that the rear end collision was not the cause of sensor failure but the fact the computer chip burned. my question is how long will this chip last and if you should give your customers a heads up on this information ? *tr

Within a week of purchasing the car i noticed that the light indicating that the passenger side airbag was off would illuminated when the 180 lb husband would sit in the passenger seat properly restrained. not only would it come on and stay on, but it would go off after a little while then come back on. a while later, it would come back on, then go off again. the dealership where i purchased the car reset the computer, but the problem occurred again. at this time, i had a 55 lb child sit in the passenger seat and buckle up the light did not come on. as i understood , it was designed to come on in this situation. the dealership has since put a seat from a new vehicle . nissan was in no hurry to ship the dealer a new seat into the car, but the same problem happened again. now, when i have articles that were somewhat heavy , 20-30 lb, ) in the passenger seat without the seat belt buckled the light will come on, go off, and come back on again multiple times at odd intervals. i didn't believe the sensor is working properly when anyone was in the car.*ak

The owners and or sellers of this dangerous and life threatening vehicle that was sold to me knowing that the car was in extremely bad condition. these criminals sold me the vehicle knowing that it was not smog cleared or approved. they sold me a fatal accident waiting to o happen! they intentionally modified the odometer/mileage to 85k/95k... but when i ran a check on car fax, it clearly showed that this vehicle was 206,851 miles of wear and tear to engine. the break system almost killed me on the freeway and made me lose control and forcefully made me spin out of driving control for 3 full spins in the middle of the freeway, bu the grace of god, i missed all incoming traffic.

Driving after work and noticed my car was shaking when it would change gears...i took it nissan dealer because i was told there was a warranty for cvs transmission and they told me that warranty expired. i only had 118,000 miles but was over year warranty and nissan told me it would be expensive to change it because it was a cvt transmission...so upset i looked online and there is so many complaints about the cvt transmission i would never buy a nissan again

Call has been stalling for a few years now it doesn't start at all. a mechanic came out and said it's the fuel pump.

Nissan altima 2007 4 cyl. the entire dashboard is cracking in various areas. many lengthy cracks which are beginning to open wider and becoming larger. also the dashboard is very sticky. this vehicle has been garaged for 4 years. would be nice if nissan would look into this defect. i have seen many other owners complaining of the same problems with the dashboard.

I was driving and my car started shaking. the engine light came on and i had to go get it checked out so i did and the guy said my transmission could explode on me, stop while i'm driving, or stop working randomly.

I recently just purchased this car and the check engine light came on so i checked it. turns out there is something wrong with a circuit in the transmission. it will give out on me.

I have a 2007 nissan altima 2.5s with cvt transmission that has failed at 181,225 miles. car has always been taken care of.. driving down the road a whining sound started lost acceleration then a very loud grinding noise and then shifting issues.. all with in 15 minutes.. no warning just quit going. mechanics state it is the transmission and has to be replaced. really love my car but the replacement is so expensive. nissan needs to help due to this is an on going issue.

My 2007 nissan altima dashboard is all cracked. the cracks run along the seams and also started cracking everywhere just out of no where. i took it to the nissan dealer in pembroke pines. they took a report and told me that someone would get back to me. i tried to tell him the story and he said he knew what to write. a few days later a lady called me and told me it was out of warranty and there is nothing they would do for me. it is the heat. i keep my car under my carport in the shade whenever i am at home when i go to work it is parked in the shade in the parking garage when i go shopping, i use a sun shade. my car has about 65,000 miles on it and it looks horrible inside with the cracked dashboard and is a safety issue. something needs to be done about this issue. i know i am not the only person that is having this issue. somebody needs to make nissan take care of this issue for their customers.

The whole engine is jerking when placed on reverse.

Driver seat height won't stay adjusted high like i prefer it. i have my mirrors adjusted to a high position but the seat gradually sinks down on its own.

My 2007 nissan altima dashboard suddenly started having cracks. the cracks run all along the seams but there are others that just cracked out of no where. i have notified nissan corporate who referred me to my local dealership and when i talked to my dealership they said they “ would look into it” and get back with me. i am aware of the class action lawsuits in florida and texas and they state it’s the heat. well i live in louisiana just as hot and i park in a garage. 80,000 miles. with all these cracks and goo and sticky stuff people are having has anyone tested this substance for toxicity. i now have two white spots appearing. my cracks looks like the dashboard is lifting and i was told it could be gases from “ glue” that holds dash down. as a former nurse this could be very dangerous as no one is testing this and it can be affecting thousands of lives who are exposed to this daily. nissan is aware of this problem and they state out of warranty. have they tested this. all complaints are 2007 owners. in my opinion this needs further investigation due to possible substances being released (i have asthma) and other owners who cannot see out their window. we have had our car several years and we also can’t roll down the windows with our key or power locks either.

"takata recall" i was driving in town & car started to do somewhat of a "jump/skip" when it was trying to shift gears one day.then it drove fine for a few days. then a few days later as i was completing a left hand turn, car decides that it wasn't going to do anything! it wouldn't move & smoke started coming out from under hood. thank goodness i coasted off to the side of the road. i had to have car towed.mechanic informs me, transmission went out. car only has 144000 miles! i've cars that have more miles then that! come on nissan, why are your transmissions going out so fast!

The dashboard is disintegrating. even the sides of the console which are not in direct sunlight are crumbling apart. the date of occurrence is a guesstimate as i only just found this site. it has been deteriorating for years.

While driving on hwy ** a very busy street the transmission acted up. would not shift into 1st gear after pulling into traffic. car started jerking and lost power almost causing a accident. had to stop the car put it in park turned it off and back on and then it was normal for a short bit, the once you hit 50-60 mph the car began jerking again. we managed to get over to the side of the road to try to restart and take off again .we never know when this can or will happen. i have read several people complaining of this same issue. this needs to be addressed before someone is killed in a accident over this problem. there are several of these vehicles on the road with this same problem. would hate to hear of my love ones or yours hurt or killed over this transmission issue. thank you

Nissan was sued last year for dashboards of nissan altimas for 2008 and 2009. my nissan is a 2007. went to the dealer because i have the same problems it causes a glare on the windshield when driving that i could easily cause an accident. for years my dashboard has been cracked. it’s sticky and discusting . my car has always slept in the garage . i do live in florida . i bought the car in florida . the lawsuit was for florida residents only . i want to know why these lawyers were able to sue nissan got millions of dollars but only submitted 2008 and 2008 the lawsuit gave customers only about 5 months to do a claim . total bologny . what do i have to do to fight nissan on this matter .

The dash is melting and giving large glare in sunny days its really sticky and quite the eye sore. only help offered was telling me to install new dash at my expense or cover which would eventually stick so you couldnt remove to clean07

I've owned this vehicle for 2 1/2 years now and every time i drive home from los angeles my transmission has acted up. i don't work, so it's only driven there occasionally which has helped it last this long. now the tranny is overheating and can't be driven uphill without it failing to get me home which is almost completely uphill for an hour. even from bakersfield it is overheating now which it didn't do before and this has been an ongoing problem with their cvt transmissions and there should have been a recall on them with a change to atf instead. it says there is a recall for my year, but nissan.com says no..what can i do?

While driving my 2007 nissan altima the rpm drops and the car loses power. the check engine light gives a code for the catalyst converter but the light goes on and off. once the rpm drops and all of the lights on the dashboard start blinking, the car jerks and stall. i have to pull over and put the car in park for a few minutes. the car jerks again and drives normal for about 15 minutes and then it repeats itself.

Re: 2007 nissan altima - cvt transmission: i was on the pennsylvania turnpike and more than halfway to my destination, as i increased acceleration from 55 to 65 mph, the engine began straining and the tachometer increased to 3500 rpms. the automatic transmission would not auto shift. i backed off the accelerator and maintained a speed of 55 mph. eventually, i arrived at my destination. on my return trip, the problem occurred again, this time only worse. again, i didn’t push the vehicle to high speeds. by the time i exited the pennsylvania turnpike, i could not accelerate the car beyond 45-50 mph without the tachometer once again climbing to alarmingly high levels. the engine whined as if it were straining mightily to shift into the proper high gear. i immediately drove the car to my qualified mechanic who ran a diagnostic test. several codes indicated transmission failure. my nissan has the cvt transmission which i now understand is deeply flawed transmission. i was unaware of the problems with this transmission until i did extensive research of my own and learned that many nissan owners had experienced situations identical to mine. i called nissan and a case was created (#34468600). i was informed that nissan has completely absolved itself of all responsibility since my vehicle has 153k miles on the odometer. at no time since i've owned this vehicle have i received a recall notification from nissan indicating this problem. this is unacceptable. when a multinational corporation absolves themselves of all responsibility after creating and selling a product that is well documented as being deficient, it becomes eerily reminiscent of volkswagen’s emission scandal and audi’s sudden acceleration problem.

Takata recall the car often doesn't recognize that the passenger seat is occupied. sometimes it takes minutes and sometimes not at all. this happens when i am driving it.

Takata recall: we were driving in a neighborhood at less than 10 mph (we were looking at houses). out of nowhere my airbags blew. we did not hit anything and we looked around to see if something hit us and there was nothing. there was also no external damage to my car. no one was hurt since there was no momentum, however, nissan will not take responsibility and they refuse to send me the report. i have left numerous messages with rep. dehenry kidd (615-725-7639 /case number 29409439).i was also told there was no escalation process.

Nissan melting dashboard - my dashboard has become permanently shiny and sticky to the touch. i bought this car used from tennessee and did not have this problem until i brought it home to florida. the shine reflects off of the dashboard and onto the windshield making it incredibly difficult to see while driving, especially on sunny days. i feel unsafe due to this manufacturer issue that nissan has caused for many vehicles. if i am ever in an accident due to this shiny dashboard i will take action against nissan. there was a lawsuit in fl for 2008 altimas with this issue but i did not qualify because mine is 2007 and i did not have the car when the lawsuit was still active. i have tried to make a claim with nissan but they will not do anything about it. if it takes someone dying from an accident from these melting dashboards that is too far. the nhtsa needs to force a recall on all models and years that this effects!! 2007 altimas are affected by these melting dashboards, not just 2008!! many 2007 owners i know have the same problem!!!! i am beyond furious about this issue!!!

Walked outside to notice something was loose and hanging underneath my car. after taking my car to the local nissan dealership, they told me that my stabilizer (sway bar) was broken and would cost nearly $400 to replace. after receiving the news, i decided to research and found that a myriad of people are experiencing the same problem. i would really appreciate this issue being taken care of without having to come out pocket, considering that my driving couldn't have caused this.

Driving home from a physical therapy appointment, i entered my street apps 1/4 mile from my house. i depressed the gas pedal to go up a slight incline. at this point the engine accelerated as the gas pedel was totally depressed. the car continued accelerating. out of fear for other drivers, i tried to turn to a side street on the right, an 1/8 of mile from my house with foot on the brake and nothing on the gas. the car fishtailed causing the car to severe a telephone pole and a stop sign on the end of that street. the car was totalled. i was not cited by the police.

Purchased this vehicle from the original owner. saw that the front passenger air bag "off" indicator light stayed on when the front passenger seat was occupied along with the air bag warning light blinking in the instrument panel (all the time). upon investigating the issue, i found that the "varistor" in the ocs control unit (occupant classification system) in the front passenger seat was bad. this varsitor is the switch that engages the front passenger air bag when the seat is occupied. this was recalled for 2007 nissan altimas under nhtsa campaign number: 08v521000. i contacted nissan north america about the issue and was told my car (by vin) was not affected. when i questioned why i was having the exact same issue as the recall, i was told that the customer service representative for my region would call me. when i was contacted, i was told that my car was already checked and that there was not a problem. when i asked how my car was checked when i was told it wasn't affected, i was told i could take it to any dealer and they would be able to diagnose/repair the issue. when i asked about the recall and the cost for repair the rep. told me my car was "x" months and "x" miles out of warranty. i explained that i was looking for a required safety device to be repaired not a alternator or water pump. the representative was very smug and basically told me too bad. i asked if it would take somebody being injured in one of their cars with this issue for them to do the right thing but again was told to take it to any dealership for repair. the representative would not even hear that the issue in my car could be related to the recall issue. photo taken with me sitting in the front passenger seat.

I had my vehicle maintained at the same dealership i bought it from since i first purchased the car and was never notified of the cvt transmission issues. over the last few years i told them that the vehicle whined when i accelerated on the highway but they never recommended replacing the transmission under the 10 yr or 120,000 mile warranty. the transmission just failed at 136,000 miles and the manufacturer said that they would not honor the warranty.

The vehicle takes over 40 minutes of driving to have the heat blower activate on cold temperatures. starting and letting the vehicle run idle for 20 minutes before driving doesn't seem to help this situation. heater will not work under any circumstance, cause the windows to fog up while driving and putting the driver and passengers in a serious situation in which they can experience frostbite from the extreme temperature, accidents because of not being able to see thru the windows and losing control of the vehicle because the cold causes the driver to lose grip on the steering wheel. dealership refuses to take a look at the heating system, saying that is typical for nissans to take that long to heat up. no other explanation provided or solution to this issue.

The vehicle is just past the 120k mile power train warranty period and the transmission/cvt began hard-shifting/clunking at around 40mph. took it to a certified mechanic who diagnosed it as a failing cvt and requires replacement. called nissan dealer and they said "yup, that happens." offered no guidance, their only solution is to replace the cvt for $6,000 (plus shop fees, taxes, etc.) i've talked to several altima owners and they've had very similar experiences with cvts failing between 125k and 140k miles, just past the warranty period. the failure is big, and nissan says the only option is complete replacement - no way to repair this issue.

I own a 2007 nissan altima with only 79k. the transmission went out of warranty by 6 months. i did some research and it looks like thousands of people have reported issues with the cvt transmission. all these transmissions were going out below 85k. i reach out to nissan for any assistance and they say "no we are sorry, after looking at your file you never complained previously to nissan with any transmission issue so you are out of warranty." seriously!!! you allow them to build junk and they know it and they only use 10 years or 120k warranty. i am a victim with 79k. nissan needs to stand by there product? i ask you this one question. do you think that you own a car with 79k that a transmission needs to be replaced? this is not just me but thousands with the same issue.

Takata recall

The exhaust manifold has a hole and crack prior to the catalytic converter. this has allowed carbon monoxide to be sucked into the cabin of the vehicle through the hvac system of the vehicle while it is stopped or parked and running. it has also increased the levels of carbon monoxide emitted by the vehicle while the engine is running as the hole is allowing some exhaust to exit the exhaust system prior to going though the catalytic converter.

Took road trip car stalled while on hwy. stared to ride in cruise control and cruise control got stuck and car stalled again.check eng light said transmission sensor. car restart drove some more then car stalled again. car would not accelerate or go passed 20 mph. took to mechanic they worked on my car for 4 months. still do not have my car .

Vehicle lacks sufficient ability to move forward following an emergency hard braking event (where the wheels lock up; i do not have abs). once the car comes to a complete stop, it feels like it has no power to move forward, pressing the accelerator to the floor does little to help. it seems like the cvt stays in whatever high gear it was when i hit the brakes. i believe this constitutes a critical safety issue because the vehicle is now essentially blocking traffic, the driver is unable to get out of harms way/moving traffic. i have experienced this twice now, both within city limits <=45 mph. the only way i am able to get the car moving again is to stop/start the engine or put transmission in park (p) then drive (d) to get the cvt to "reset". shifting into neutral (n) then drive (d) does not help. i have brought this to the dealer's attention and they say there are no recalls and no error codes reported via obdii.

The engine sometime stall and rav high when turning corner

The front door locks on our nissan altima will not operate with the keyless fob. this locking failure happens all the time when the vehicle is parked or whether in motion. i have had the battery tested and it's ok. this isn't the first time this has happened. the rear driver side failed to operate in the same manor and i had to have the our local nissan dealership make the repair a couple of years ago. i'm not sure if this is a door actuator problem or some other electrical problem. i know after researching this online many other people are experiencing the same thing. my wife drives this vehicle more than me and i feel this could be a safety issue if she needs to unlock the car in a hurry. i believe this should be considered a recall because it does involve personal safety.

My dashboard has become soft, mushy, has many cracks and has become shiny. i have noticed that if i am driving during the day at high sun, it is most difficult to see the road due to the glare that it makes on my windshield.

I was driving northbound on western avenue busy main street in chicago all the sudden my car started shaking and vibrating as i approach the lighti had to turn my car off put it in park first turn it off and then try to turn it back on to accelerate it only works once until i got to the second main light and my car would not move or accelerate and i was stuck in the middle of a busy main street with cars behind me beeping and driving past me. not to mention my rpm's we're going all over the place and i could not drive past 20 miles per hour and the car would speed up and slow down on its own and it felt like it was over working itself. prior to this ionly a week ago that i heard a rattling noise and took it into my mechanic to see what the problem was and the computer told him it was a transmission issue which at this time nissan had refused to repair and replace based on the warranty because i was over a thousand miles which at that point i never knew or was notified there was an extended warranty otherwise i would have taken in the car a lot sooner thousand miles is only two weeks more of driving for me. also my rpm's were going all over the place i couldn't even drive past 20 miles per hour and then the car would speed up with the rpm's increasing not only does this present a problem need driving the car but it also created a safety issue i could have gotten hit from behind with my 1 year old child in the backseat crying hysterically and i could have gotten hit moving my own car to safety because i had to get it out of the main busy street and no one came out to help me and i was pushing my car by myself in 20 below freezing weather in chicago.now it's going to cost me $2,000 to fix this problem that nissan already knew was an issue never notified me of even with the extended warranty and did not want to cover it because i was over the mileage.

I have had all of the issues concerning power with transmission as others and am told it is an expensive fix that all 07 altimas have. transmission should be recalled. i do all regular maintenance on my vehicle. i can't afford a new transmission.

The dash board appears to be falling apart. it has become shiny, sticky, and has multiple cracks that can be seen all over the dash and they are getting worse with time. my vehicle is parked in an enclosed garage most of the time. this does not appear to be simple wear and tear but a defect with the material used to construct the dash. this is ultimately a safety issue as the glare inside the vehicle at times can cause you to be unable to see out your front windshield.

Passenger side airbag turns off with adult in the seat. if adult moves around the warning light goes out but returns within minutes. although nissan is fully aware of this problem with a variety of altima model years they ignore my safety complaint. the factory says see the dealership service. if the service dept verifies the problem have them contact us. the service dept says call the factory. service dept says inspection is my responsibility and could cost $200 or more. this seems to happen when the vehicle is in motion but i have not monitored it when parked. cannot 100% say it is only when in motion.

Sunday 10\25\15 my daughter was driving on 118 in ventura county at 5am. a large animal ran in front of the car, she swerved and hit some construction sign/sandbags. she lost control spun across road, may have flipped and ended up in a deep ditch. all airbags deployed but the front passenger side. this air bag has had sensor problems before and was replaced during a recall because i insisted. i was told it was fixed, the young lady who received a concussion yesterday doesn't agree. the car was totalled and all other airbags deployed but the one that had issues?

My complaint is for oil leak and electrical system problem. 1 year after purchasing my 2007 nissan altima, i took it for oil change were they stated we think there might be a leak somewhere. 3 months later i took the car for another oil change and all of a sudden it was a major oil leak. this just one incident and i have read several complaint forum where people are having the same problem and some resulted in there cars catching on fire. then on approximately april 22, 2015 i was driving my vehicle and it randomly shut off, none the car would start, the key entry wouldn't work, the radio would come on and the heating/air unit would work nor would the truck open and actually the truck stopped opening a month before the car shut off while i was driving. nissan refuses to fix any of these problems and i really feel that they should fix this problem since it is a multitude of cars with this same problem. also, my car has been sitting since april 22, 2015 down the street from my home

My door behind the drivers side doesn't open and we have tried everything, i have taken my car 2 a dealership and they worked on it for over an hr, and they couldn't get 2 open. and until my door is fixed, i can't get it inspected. and this is the only vehicle i have. i need my ddor fixed or formula nissan needs 2 replace my car and put me in a different vehicle. this has been an on going thing, and i don't have the money 2 pay someone per hr. as i live on a fixed income.

Back in 2012 my nissan altima starter switch failed to work. i took the car to a nissan dealership location and it was determined that the brake light switch was faulty and had to be replaced. on march 15, 2015, the car exhibited the same issue, starter switch failed to work again. this time i took it to an independent mechanic, who again had to replace the same part, the brake like switch. i suspect that there are more nissan vehicles with this same issue. the recall should be extended to other models and be tested for an issue with the starter/brake light switch. ...updated 09/22/15 *bf updated 11/27/2017*cn

In 01/12, we specifically purchased this pre-owned vehicle for its low mileage & new cvt transm replaced on 8/30/2010 at 69,421 mi at nissan fort worth, tx. vehicle had 92.069 mi. on 6/22-25/13, trophy nissan in mesquite, tx supposedly replaced the burnt up cvt transm with a new one again, flushed out lines at 105,022 mi [after only 35,601 mi]; also performed electronic fuel injection service, clean throttle chamber, decarbon upper engine area; replaced & reprogrammed intelligent keys. i paid pay $398.48 for air intake cleaner, intake kit, basic inj flush and replacing drive belts & fan. i really didn’t understand what that had to do with replacing the automatic cvt transmission.] service advisor ignored memo from corporate office not to place intelligent keys to prevent a "no start fault error". on 7/3/13 the car refused to start due to keys being placed together. new cvt transm installed by trophy nissan still whines, stalls, hesitates, jerks & gears not shifting right. due to bad service, rude, nasty, unprofessional people at trophy, i took car to courtesy nissan, richardson, tx in 7/13, service advisor, bob schille contacted trophy nissan & refused to check cvt. on 8/10/13 at 110,856 mi, i took car to clear lake nissan, league city, tx. cvt was whining, jerking,stalling, hesitating, not shifting properly when test driven but yielded no diagnostic codes. on 6/28/14 - 7/1/14 at 118,531 mi, took car back to courtesy nissan. i was lied to, car was never test driven nor cvt diagnosed. took car back to clear lake 11/22 still cvt didn't give diagnostic codes. went back 12/12/14, cvt gives codes for new cvt after abt 25,000 mi. now warranty has run out! contacted nissan usa again via phone, then email 5/18/15. contacted by angie, nissan usa, regional consumer affairs specialist, 5/28/15 refusing to repair this defective cvt tranm. no car needs 3-4 cvt transm in 8yrs!

I replaced the radio in my 2007 nissan altima and when i did the dashboard around the radio completely crumbled. this is when i realized that my dashboard was melting. my whole dashboard is melting. this is starting to affect my driving abilities because its so shiny that it reflects in my window and makes it hard to see.

Heard a loud pop while driving forward, pulled over only to find a broken stabilizer bar, hanging on the rear driver side. looked on the web to find many people having the same problem. part is defective, called nissan told it would be about $500.00. owned many different cars and never ever had a stabilizer bar just break. very disappointed with nissan america....

While walking to the vehicle an object was seen hanging down from behind the left drivers side rear wheel area. after crawling under the vehicle to investigate i positively confirmed the rear sway bar was broken off right at the bushing. the driver side end of this bar is still attached at the linkage rods, but is completely broken off from the rest of the sway bar at the left side bushing and bracket. please force nissan to step up to the plate and at least issue a service bulletin if they are too stubborn to issue a recall. make them agree in writing to dump the manufacturer of this inferior hollow part. judging by the numerous broken 2007 altima sway bar complaints, there is an apparent quality problem here. *tr

The rear sway bar broke while driving under normal conditions. it prompted me to get online to see if there were any problems with this issue. it seems that there is an engineering defect in the product as thousands of altima owners have attested to the same problem with the sway bar. and, they all seem to break in the same place. why is this not a recall issue? it's certainly dangerous enough driving down the road with a piece of pipe hanging down dragging on the road. i do not understand why nissan is not held to a higher standard or expectation, and why so many owners are having to pay to get a defective engineered product fixed. come on guys...do something about this before someone gets killed. We were driving to tampa and car suddenly stopped and had to go on the side of the road and will not start. had to be towed to the closer transmission repair shop. they checked the engine and had a hole in it and could not figure what the cause of the hole, it took two weeks to get the diagnosis and told us we need to get a new transmission, we paid $5000 for it and had no choice as that was the only car between me and my husband to go to work. i contacted nissan and they said it was not under warranty and could not help me even if i told them there were other complaints about the car. even the repair guy told us that nissan had so many problems. after 2 months there were more problems, seems every few months something is wrong and now my car is sitting again in the repair shop just after 2 yrs and they said i need another transmission!!!!! this is crazy, i wish i had trade in the car before this happened as this is a piece of junk. i will never buy nissan before and hopefully i can get the word out not to buy nissan. *tr

I took my niece to this crappy dealership today to get her car serviced because she has a recall to replace the exhaust manifold. i spoke with [xxx] on feb 18 at 0245p to schedule an appointment. well we arrived today at 0730hrs this morning. first off service person [xxx] spoke with her(niece) and convinced her she needed to have diagnostics ran on her vehicle. i cancelled that idea because we already had established on the 18th that there was a recall for the exhaust manifold(sulev emissions alt 07-08). that was $110.00 he wasn't making.. after we sat for 2.5 hrs., this joker returns to tell me that it took his mechanic 2 hours to find a recall on the vehicle. mind you we knew about it and that's why we were there to begin with and two it was a bs line he was trying to get away with. i spoke with [xxx] (she too brushed me off) who informed me to speak with a stand in stupidvisor named [xxx]. well it didn't get any better because after being told by victor it would take 4-5 hours to do but only after they took care of the other afternoon customers that had later time slots, [xxx] said they were not going to do it. now im heated after being jerked around all [xxx] day, you're telling me its not going to get done??? i told the to bring my car out and i wanted paperwork. victor [xxx] attempted tried cover his [xxx] by saying on the paperwork that we declined serviced after we were told by him and the supervisor [xxx] that it wasn't gonna happen. tacky tacky tacky... ive purchased 4 cars from these clowns at this dealership since 2001. well they just lost my business and my loyalty to the dealership. i wont send anyone there again.. very unprofessional and they are liars. my money will be well spent elsewhere. not only do we have to find another nissan dealer, she is forced to operate and unsafe vehicle with a six year old son. shame on rt 22 nissan.. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The dashboard of my nissan altima 2007 is melting (literally). i noticed a small pond of goo like material on my dashboard. in less than a week it spread out like cancer and continues to spread. this pond of goo reflects the sunlight on the windshield, creating a glare that blocks my view and endangers my ability to drive. not to mention the loss of my investment not caused by improper use of the vehicle (see picture) i've unsuccessfully tried to get nissan to assume the repair of their defective dashboard. i'm not claiming normal wear and tear or mechanical items but rather a real life threatening issue. i've talked to adrian (457295), john (457263), jessica (57758). i went a nissan dealership where they diagnosed that it'll continue to experience melting and only replacing could fix the issue. today nick (7583) called me to sympathize with me but how unfortunately nissan cannot replace my melting dashboard and that the issue cannot be escalated any further. it is shameful to see how nhtsa has more than 200 reports of melting dashboard, nissan can spend millions of dollars in a super bowl ad #with dad appealing to customer loyalty but nissan cannot assume responsibility of a defective material that couldn't perform in florida. ..updated 03-04-15*bf updated 6/17/2015*js updated 12/09/15.*jb

I purchased this vehicle used with an (nissan certified) extended warranty with approximately 25,000 miles in 2010. i have had the automatic cvt transmission replaced (under warranty---cvt replaced with new transaxle assembly) on three separate occasions between 2011 and 2013. in early 2013, ross nissan claimed there was nothing wrong with the transmission and did not replace it, one month later i took it too valley hi nissan in victorville and they told me that it should have been replaced by ross. the problem is as follows: the car when driven over long periods of time in traffic (1 hour or more), the transmission begins to whine,especially when climbing up hills. on over five occasions the car speed topped out at about 45-55 mph on the freeway and could not go faster on steep inclines. i would have to pull the car over to the slow lane as it would not accelerate past the 45-55 mph until the incline in the freeway leveled off. this has happened several times and each time it has happened, the nissan dealer would evaluate it and state that the transmission was faulty. the transmission were replaced approximately around 45k, 77k, 109k, in doing the research the following bulletins seem to match the problem that i've been having ntb-13-079 and ntb-12-057 and the one mentioned by the dealer which i couldn't find on this website tsb-ntb10-143a. they all seem to indicate a problem with the fail safe for the cvt transmission fluid protector. i don't understand why nissan will not replace this issue as it has happened on so many cars. although my warranty had expired, the problem was never solved correctly. i don't take the car on the freeway, because i am in fear that i will be rammed by another vehicle as the car will not accelerate on occasions when the car is running too hot. the car/transmission is defective. *tr

I noticed something hanging down from beneath my car while approaching the vehicle yesterday. brought the car to the dealership today and was told that the rear axle suspension bar is cracked. one nissan employee in the service department said he had "never heard of" this happening without a root cause (accident, etc.). this car has not been in an accident, has not hit any pot holes, etc. most likely the issue is due to some type of manufacturing defect that would allow the bar to either corrode or break spontaneously. i did some research to learn more about the issue and found hundreds of complaints have been lodged about this exact issue with this year, make and model. i am wondering why there has not been a recall yet. the back suspension of the car is compromised and the issue could have led to something much more serious in terms of safety. i will not have an estimate for the repair until morning, but i am quite sure i need to pursue this issue with the manufacturer. if there are that many of us having this problem and reporting it, there must be quite a few more people out there who have not gone to the trouble of reporting but have eaten this expense/repair as well. *tr

While approaching the gate to my office parking lot this morning, i attempted to come to a stop while the gate opened. as i approached the gate, i could have been travelling no faster than 4-5 miles per hour. the brakes failed to react. i floored the brakes, but to no avail, and crashed into the gate. fearful of the safety of the car, i had it towed to the nissan dealership, and i was informed that there have been past issues with the 2007 nissan altima master brake cylinder. after checking the car, i was informed that it was a problem with that part. it had leaked internally and at the time i attempted to brake there was simply no more fluid to provide pressure to the brakes. i asked if this could have happened at any speed, and was told that it could have done so. apparently the nhtsa has dealt with complaints on this before, but as a second owner of the car, i had no idea this issue was out there. had i had to brake at a high rate of speed, there could have been serious casualties or even fatalities. please investigate and consider a recall of this car. *tr

First, no problems but at regular oil maintenance, they said we had an oil leak. had it fixed. engine started stalling. no warning lights. said had an oil leak of some kind. fixed it again (so we thought). happened again two months later - car started stalling. engine light came on that time. towed it nissan. said had an oil leak. fixed it (again we thought). two months later riding down road at low speed, car caught on fire. got it put out before engulfed because of a gentleman passing by had a cooler full of water. engine is now totally no good and have another year to pay on this car. *tr

Yesterday while pulling out of a driveway, heard a sound out of the right rear of the car and after previously seeing hundreds of posts about the well known and documented rear sway bar defect in the 2007 nissan altima, i came home, jacked the car up, crawled under, and found what i suspected; the rear sway bar had snapped on the inside of the mounting bracket toward the center of the car. it's not dangling down because it's held up by the left side bracket. the portion remaining connected to the right end link is still held by the right side bracket. if someone who didn't have a clue about cars had experienced this defect, they may have driven for hundreds or thousands of miles, placing themselves, their passengers, and other drivers in danger due to a diminished capacity in the handling of the vehicle. nissan is well aware of this problem, yet fails to offer owners any assistance. the government should be aware of this problem simply because of the hundreds of complaints about this issue. the car will be repaired with a solid steel rear sway bar, not the hollow oem type from nissan. there is less than $20 difference in the cost of the parts (oem crap vs better quality solid steel). it's past time for nissan to step up and offer at least partial reimbursement to everyone that has had to repair their known defective part, and recall the car to replacement the part for those that have yet to fail. it's past time for nhtsa to "persuade" nissan to take action. what may be needed is a class action suit to begin the process of compensating altima owners that have put themselves and thousands of others unknowingly in danger. i could also mention the well known and documented issue with the air conditioner clutch in the 2007 2.5l altima, but there wouldn't be space here to do it. needless to say, i will never recommend a nissan to anyone, or ever buy one again. *tr

I contact nissan corp and file a complaint pertaining to the engine oil cooler. nissan had a recall on this part back in 2007. they call it the 2007 campaign. the results were giving to me on 6/11/2013 stating that they will not pay for the repairs. i paid 70 dollars to get the inspection at nissan for them to tell me they will not repair my car. my car is dripping more oil than usually and the issue is the same issue they recall my model car back in 2007. my car is at great risk of catching fire because of the poor quality engine. *tr

Rear sway bar snapped off at point inside rubber bushing on driver's side. i researched online and found numerous complaints of this issue on various message boards, youtube, and the nhtsa safety complaint web site. the sway "bar" is actually a hollow tube, like a pipe, which is obviously not strong enough to support the load of the vehicle during normal driving conditions. broken piece was hanging down very close to the ground (less than 1/2 inch) and was rattling/banging/rubbing against other suspension components and cables. others may have noticed sparks coming from under the vehicle when hitting bumps/dips while driving, which could potentially cause a fire on the side of the road. (it is not uncommon for dragging metal to start fires like this.) i had also noticed that while making turns, it feels like the suspension is "loose" and the vehicle is harder to control. i hope that someone is able to investigate this issue and get a recall issued before anyone is injured or causes a fire. *tr

Rear sway bar broken for no apparent reason. while walking up our driveway it was noticed that something was hanging down on the rear underneath the car. the rear sway bar had snapped in half. the car has always been driven responsibly. there was no reason for this to happen other than faulty equipment. nissan should recall this problem since it is so common. *tr

Observed pipe suspended from beside right rear wheel of the 2007 nissan altima 2.5. vehicle was parked. looked under vehicle and determined it was a pipe linked to the rear wheel and suspension assemblies. the end of the pipe was nearly dragging on the ground. did internet research concluding that the broken pipe was the rear sway bar or torsion bar. prior to observing the visible hanging torsion bar end, we frequently experienced the rear end of the vehicle was unstable when cornering at highway speed such as when entering or exiting a highway ramp. given this frequent experience, the actual failure in torsion bar functional strength may have occurred months earlier. after determining there was no recall or service bulletin, and also noting that nhtsa records in this database show over 50 event descriptions nearly identical to ours, i went to the nissan dealer to ask if they offered payment or credits for this repeatable defect. the dealer was not offering any credits. then, took my vehicle to my master mechanic. he performed the service replacement of the broken sway bar and end link assemblies. we retained the broken sway bar in hopes that nhtsa begins to research this problem. according to the mechanic, this "bar" is really a 5/8" diameter pipe that seared near one of the bushing supports. there is surface rust present within the pipe indicating that the pipe had fractured some time earlier with water entering the fracture causing the rust. it is not a solid steel "bar" as typically found in other vehicles throughout the industry. cost of repair was approximately $200 for parts plus 1 hour shop labor. we respectfully request that nhtsa investigate this failure due to its apparent common failure mode and for the potential risk of injury should the rear end of the vehicle lose traction on curves or rough pavement at highway speeds. *tr

Starting in 2011 every once in a while the cruise control lights started blinking which disabled the ability to use the cruise control. the vehicle had to be turned off and restarted to reset the lights and be able to use cruise control. this became more frequent as time went on. now in 2013 the cruise control lights blink 99.99% of the time and cannot be reset by turning vehicle off. the cruise control now does not work at all even on the rare occasion when the light is not blinking. *tr

Approximately 12/24/12 noticed a knocking sound coming from the right rear. on 12/27/12 stopped to have tire pressure checked and asked if they could check the rear end. the tech advised that sway bar was broken in two on the right rear of vehicle. *tr

I was driving my car heading home from work on the highway in steady traffic and the car wouldn't go just dropped down to zero, however the car was going about 35...i contacted my dealer and they said it was probably bad gas and to bring it in for a check..after going in and paying the 90 plus dollars i was told nothing was wrong..after time passed it didn't do it for a while and around 95thousand plus miles it did it all over again.. took car in and was told nothing was wrong..after driving and finally it wouldn't go anymore and my cars was at about 160 miles by now i took it in and was told that i need to maybe get a tune up after getting a tune up. it drove fine until i drove out of state and the car was driving but speedometer was @0. finally made it home safe after letting car cool on the highway every 50 miles and took back to shop and was told that when gettin a tune up if fluids look ok they aren't changed..so upon finding this out i was told i needed a new transmission @ a different shop put new transmission in and drove fine for 35 plus thousand miles and everything started all over again..took back and was told i needed a catalytic converter a new down flex pipe and a new transmission...i would like to know how to get a car transmission recalled or off the market cause i've never had to deal with a car like this before..i guess that's what i get for stepping out on the acura and honda family...:-) please look into this for me thank you!! *tr

I am requesting that dot nhtsa investigate the driver's contribution to a leak with the master cylinder and to request that dot nhtsa force nissan to issue a recall. the vehicle is 2007altima 27k miles this leak causes loss of brake fluid. when enough brake fluid is loss, the brake system is not able to generate enough pressure to squeeze the brake pad to the brake rotors. end result is that the operator of the vehicle cannot stop the car (no brakes!!!). this poses serious danger to the vehicle operator, its passengers and the public. please formally investigate and when found valid, force nissan to do a recall. my personal experience: it started with the brake light turning on then after a few minutes, turn off. all the while my brakes starts to diminish. i looked the brakes system and found that the brake fluid level is low. topped it off and everything was back to normal.around 60 days later, brake light again turned on and a few minutes turned off. same problem. i had it checked with a professional mechanic. heÂ??s conclusion is that the master cylinder has a leak and needs to be replaced. a 5 year old car with 27k miles should not have a problem with the master cylinder. this is a defect that nissan needs to address with a recall before somebody gets seriously hurt due to loss of brakes. The day i purchased my vehicle around dec 2007, the brakes were squeaking. the service department and dealership where i bought the vehicle from told me it was just dust on the brakes and it could be washed off with a pressure washer. this problem has never been solved even when my brake pads had been replaced. i began to have a serious problem with my breaks a few months ago when every time i would push on my break pedal, the break pedal would kick back, car would jerk, and i would have to reapply the break pedal to stop/slow my vehicle. i finally took it to my nissan dealership/service dept and was told the vehicle's master cylinder had a leak and needed to be replaced. this is a serious problem and an expensive price for something that should be under warranty. *tr

My brake light randomly turns on/off regardless of the speed i am going. also when i apply the brakes, it is definitely a rough and jagged slow down, compared to previously owned vehicles. nissan should take responsibility of the issue, otherwise their reputation may suffer from this. i am hoping word of mouth and individual research will result in more documented incidents, and the nhtsa will grant a long awaited recall. *tr

I was just notified that my 2007 nissan altima has a broken sway bar. the vehicle only has 53,000 miles. i have seen multiple reports online of this happening to 2007 altimas, yet the dealership where it was purchased claims they've never seen one break before. there have been no accidents/towing/driving conditions that should have caused this to break. i drive 8 miles per day through a residential neighborhood. this is a huge safety concern and i'm disappointed in the quality of mine (and others') altimas. *tt

Brake light is illuminating. investigation shows that the brake fluid level is low. i have filled the brake fluid multiple times but it continues to lose fluid. this complaint is being filed based on car forums on the web that there is a known issue with a faulty master cylinder. there is also an open nhtsa investigation for this issue.

The brake light on my car came on. i took the car into the dealership to check the brakes and was told the master cylinder was leaking and needed to be replaced. the vehicle is a 2007 model. it seemed too new a vehicle to need such a repair. the cost was 638.95 to repair it. when i picked up the car, and started driving it again after the master cylinder was replaced, the brakes were worse than before. pedal went all the way to the floor. they had installed the new master cylinder, but the new one wasn't holding pressure, so i had no brakes. all of the brake fluid leaked from my vehicle. the car had to be towed back to the dealership. they had to replace the master cylinder yet again. i looked online and saw that the master cylinders were needing replacement in this make and model quite frequently, but a recall has not yet been issued on the problem. therefore, i am adding my complaint to the list toward that end. *tr

My 07 altima has a braking problem. i push the brakes at any speed and it has a residual pop and jerk. it begins to slow down as normal and then it seems to catch again and it will jerk and become a extreme brake. i took the car to my mechanic and they replaced the pads and turned the rotors initially and bled the lines. that did not fix it. they then recommended that i take it to nissan and i did and they said it was the brake booster and i had that replaced and they realized that the master cylinder was leaking and they were both replaced but that did not fix the problem. my mechanic can not figure out what it is and it is a definite safety hazard but i have no recourse because i have to get to and from work. he has also contacted nissan and they told him that is normal for the altima's. i read that there are other altima's that have a similar type issues. i just want the issue resolved. i have a discount on my insurance that involves my good driving and i can not apply that because of the breaking issue. my insurance monitors my driving and base my discount on my driving performance. *tr

The stabilizer sway bar for the nissan altima just broke on its own under normal conditions. i was just driving going speed limit on a local road and the bar snapped. although i had an accident with this vehicle 4 years ago, the car still ran smoothly because it was minor. the bar snapped on its own and we drive this vehicle with care. *kb

Upon inspection of an unknown metal tube hanging visibly next to the driver's side rear wheel, i was able to determine that the sway bar had deteriorated and broke. it is a very poorly designed hollow tube steel. my vehicle has approx 43,000 miles on it. i did research and found this to be a common yet unadressed issue with nissan. *tr

I have had several issues with my nissan 2007 altima. i bought it brand new with only a few hundred miles. i have had an oil leaking problem ( first it only leaked when parked, got fixed & now leaks when driving only), engine rattle, clicking when driving and not moving(sounds like diesel engine), transmission feels unsmooth sometimes when shifting(since purchased but blamed on cvt transmission & not being used to it), button under brake pedal had to be replaced (car wouldn't start when pushing button and thought it was a battery problem, but button under foot pedal was sticking & wasn't getting contact to start car) belts were rubbing strange, had to be replaced. tires are too small for car, every speed bump i ground out. engine hesitates sometimes on highway. i've had this car worked on and maintained perfectly and i have had alot of issues. i want to get a new car but feel bad selling this to anyone. *tr

Since i have gotten my 2007 nissan altima, there has been various issues/problems with it. one of my complaints has been the brakes. i was told by my dealership that the squeaky screeching noise is normal for all nissan's which i thought was a bunch of crap. through the years, no matter if replacing brake pads to calibers i should not have the squeaking still. *tr

On september 30th, 2011 i had to have my master cylinder replaced due to leaking. this was identified at the mccarthy nissan dealership in olathe, ks and replaced at the same location on the same date. *tr approximately three months ago, noticed that my emergency brake light would intermittently illuminate while driving. this was noticeable during acceleration and the light would go off after i let off the accelerator or started to brake. i had the dealership look into this issue when i took my car in for a routine oil change. after the master cylinder was replaced i noticed that the braking was much smoother and more efficient. i have kept my vehicle well maintained since owning this. bought the vehicle from the dealership and have been the only owner. *tr

Rear sway bar broke during normal driving / operation. the sway bar on the driver's side broke through at the driver's side bushing. the broken section was eventually observed dangling beneath vehicle causing obvious safety concerns. the exact milage of component failure is unknown as bar likely was supported by bushing for sometime before becoming visable. this situation really warrents a recall in my opinion. *tr

At 50,000 miles, the brake light warning indicator on my 2007 nissan altima 2.5s began intermittently illuminating on the dashboard. upon depression of the brake pedal, the light would turn off. at first, the warning light did not illuminate again after another week of driving. however, during the next several weeks, the brake warning light illuminated intermittently again and again during driving. now, it is on almost all the time unless i am depressing the brake pedal. the brake fluid level is just north of "low." so, perhaps refilling the reservoir will correct the issue. additionally, my pads are fairly worn and simply may need to be replaced. however, i have seen dozens of similar complaints online that indicate the master brake cylinder may be failing, and that is my chief concern. i have no difficulty stopping the car at this juncture. but, i have noticed that, if i depress the brake pedal just before starting the car, the pedal demonstrates a considerable amount of mechanical resistance. the amount of demonstrated resistance is directly proportional to the duration between engine starts (e.g., if the car sits for a few hours, there is minimal pedal stiffness. however, if the car is not driven for three days or more, the pedal is nearly impossible to depress until the engine turns over). i am uncertain if this is a related issue, but it is worth mentioning. *tt

I noticed around 55k miles that my brake light started coming on intermittently. it would go away if i pressed down the brake, and seemed to come on most while i was accelerating. i needed an oil change anyways, so i took it in and asked them to look at the brakes as well. they said my pads were fine. eventually the light started coming on more and more until it was on more than off. i started searching around and found that there were a lot of 2007 altimas with master brake cylinder failures where they start to leak. i went out to my car and checked the brake fluid, it was just above min. i stopped off on the way home from work, purchased some dot 3 fluid, topped it off, and the brake light hasn't been on since. it is my understanding though, brake systems are closed systems more fluid should not need to be added. i will monitor it to see if the fluid level goes down, but it appears that i have the same problem as everyone else with the master brake cylinder problems. apparently sentras have already been recalled for this, so i hope it is only a matter of time before altimas are. i really don't want to spend $500 to get this fixed if it is a widespread problem and equipment failure of nissan. *kb

Scanned vehicle codes were: p1715, p1574 and p720. all three codes are for the transmission speed sensors. primary and secondary speed sensors. both were replaced because of burnning or rubbing due to improper spacing. new spacers were added along with new sensors. total cost for parts only were- $445.13! additional fees were the labor and sensor washer, bringing the whole invoice to $762.83! this was a fault from the manufacturer. *tr

There has been no incident, but i have a concern of future failure. my car is losing brake fluid, as i've had to refill the reservoir periodically when the dash light illuminates. today, the dealer confirmed that there are no external leaks in the brake system, so it is likely inside the master cylinder. first occurrence of low brake fluid was at about 75000 miles. i am concerned that the corrosive fluid may be causing damage that will lead to a sudden failure in the braking system. i know there is an ongoing investigation for this problem, so i wanted to register my car as having the problem.

I was told when i got my oil changed at an express oil change that my brake fluid was a little low and to keep an eye on it. with in a couple days the brake light was coming on and then it would go off. it would do this on and off every time the car was driven. took the car to moore nissan in bessemer, al and told them of the problem. they checked out the car and i was told that i needed rear brakes and that my master cylinder was leaking. they showed me the leakage and i inquired as to what would cause the brake master cylinder to leak in a car that is only 4 1/2 years old. the tech said its actually a common altima problem. i said, really. i had the repairs made. *tr

2007 nissan altima rear passenger door will not open from outside or inside the car. it has been like that since i purchased but did not find out until car was past warranty because i rarely have passengers in the back seat. *tr

I bought this vehicle brand new and it has been properly maintained. while driving down the road the vdc off and slip light came on. after turning the car off, and restarting the light would go out. this happened twice so i made an appointment with nissan, while driving there it came on again. the stated that my master cylinder was bad and needed to replaced, the cost was $620.00. this car was recently inspected and has not even needed new brake pads yet. i also have a problem with the tire pressure light coming on even when tires have correct pressure. i had to pay $ 50.00 to have it reset so it would not stay on. after doing some research this seems like a common problem, that nissan is doing nothing about.

Passenger airbag light warning that airbag is off when passenger is in the seat. dealer cannot fix since they cannot duplicate it. i have it on video while the car was driven and passenger in the seat. i wonder if other owners complained. i have this problem for some time.

I am the owner and sole operator of a 2007 nissan altima 3.5se with 37,000 miles. the rear sway bar snapped while making a right turn into a parking lot under normal driving conditions. the car is very well cared for and has never been driven harshly. further, this is a part that should, realistically, _never_ fail under normal driving conditions; and upon doing some research on the internet, i have found that this is a common problem for this model and year of manufacture. i have tried to remedy the situation with nissan dealers and with nissan's "customer care" line without satisfaction. this part is clearly defective in its manufacture and should be replaced at nissan's cost. more importantly, this is a safety concern, as failure of this part can compromise handling during emergency maneuvers. *kb

Discovered today that the rear sway bar had snapped just inside of the right side center mount. there is rust inside the hollow sway bar. i have not hit any pot holes or curbs or bumps that would cause this damage, nor is there any other damage to the suspension. the sway bar appears to have snapped from being weakened by rust. *tr

On june 8, 2009 took vehicle into nissan north for routine maintenance, but also requested the brakes to be checked because they had just recently began to grind. with this service, nissan noted a complete brake inspection was performed and nothing was found to be wrong with the brakes. before i got home, the brakes began grinding again so took the vehicle back into nissan north on june 9, 2009. although, just the day before we'd been told nothing was found wrong with the brakes they charged us $100.00 to machine the front rotors. on july 8, 2009 took the vehicle back into nissan north because the brakes were now grinding much worse than initially. nissan said they could lubricate pads, but not much else. on march 19, 2010 took the vehicle back into nissan and they replaced the front pads and turned the rotors as well as replaced the rear brakes and turned the drums and rotors at a cost of $400.00 to us. brakes have squeaked off and on, especially when it rains and nissan says this happens sometimes? june 2011 the brake light began coming on when the car is started, and has continued to do so intermittently.

On july 8, 2009 took vehicle into nissan north for service and requested they check the sunroof as well, it had been squeaking when operated - opening and closing. nissan lubed the track. on march 19, 2010 took vehicle into nissan north for service and requested they check the windows and sunroof, sunroof still squeaking off and on when operated - opening and closing. nissan lubed windows for noise. june 2011 took vehicle into nissan north because sunroof made and awful noise and stopped working in mid-close. the service technician manually had to close the sunroof.

I own a 2007 nissan altima. i noticed a piece of metal hanging from under the car close to the rear driver side tire. i took it to the dealer last tuesday afternoon and they said the sway bar was broke. the car has not been under any abuse. i am the only one who has ever driven this car. because of the broken sway bar it cause the ball linkage joints to wear and the shocks to leak. it cost me $ 794.13 to have this replaced and repaired. i am very unhappy with nissan because this is a well known product defect and a safety device that has failed and should be recalled. i feel that the car may have reacted poorly in an emergency situation. i would appreciate any and all the assistance in getting a recall, bulletin or special policy to reimburse this cost to me. june 5th, 2011. *tr

I own 2 sunshine kids radian xstl car seats. both seats were purchased at the same time and are installed next to the window seats in my 2007 nissan altima. both superlatch belts loosen themselves when attached to the latch system in the car. i am appalled! my children have not been safely secured due to this! i have installed and uninstalled both seats many times and make sure the seats are installed securely each time. the belt that tightens the superlatch hits right at the belt path and will tightened when installing, but loosens easily even when it is not touched. i want my children safe! I have a 2007 nissan altima with 90,000 miles on it. all of a sudden i noticed when checking my air pressure that a piece of metal was hanging down under the rear passenger side of the vehicle near the suspension. i took the vehicle to my mechanic and he told me the rear sway bar on the passenger side had snapped in half. he asked me if i had hit anything and i replied no... he also found no damage around the area to suggest that i had hit something. so when i arrived back at my house i did some searching on the internet and to my surprise this seems to be a somewhat wide spread issue with alot of others owning my same vehicle. i spoke to my local nissan dealers in jacksonville florida who informed me they had never heard of such a thing, and had never received a vehicle in for service with this issue. so then i called nissan consumer affairs directly, who also stated they had never heard of this issue, which i find very hard to believe considering a simple internet search will reveal numerous people have had and reported this problem! i believe this is definitely a product defect, and nissan should issue a recall immediately! *tr

I bought this car brand new when it was released in late december 2006, almost 2 years later, i had informed my tech when i would bring my car in for scheduled oil changes that i hear a slight noise coming from under the car and sometimes a vibration, over these next few months and yeas i have been told it was either a bend in my rim, needing new tires, to having exhaust leaks or alignment needed. so i would take it to another shop and they would tell me different or if they confirmed i would get the service done at a licensed mechanic. over time the noise grew louder and louder and dismissed each time i bought the car in for service. until recently i figured out that the noise would only be heard and present after highway driving for 45min or more. so i reproduced the conditions before i took the car to the dealer for diagnostics then the advised me that there was sever rust taking place inside the transmission. the tech preceded to tell me that may have started when my car was in an accident 3 years ago in 2008. i contacted the bodyshop that did the repairs the provided paperwork proving that my transmission was never effected or touched as part of the accident. the transmission is still under warranty, and i even have paperwork from the same nissan dealership that shows that nissan did a multipoint inspection where they inspected the transmission and its fluid just 8 months prior and found it to be in good condition n no presence of rust or fluid issues. nissan is refusing to own up to the malfunctioning of there cvt transmission and cost for replacement. *tr

March 2010 my 2007 nissan altima se started smoking out of the exhaust when first starting after sitting awhile. the check engine lamp came on.the altima had less than 40,000 miles on it. the smoking got to the point of smoking all the time with dense black smoke. i checked the oil and found it low. after performing an oil & oil filter service, i started monitoring my oil level and found the 3.5 v6 engine was showing signs of excessive oil consumption. i checked the engine lamp codes(po420-3way catalyst function and po300-multi cylinder mis-fire). i took my altima to the dealership i bought it from and had it checked under my warranty, 60 month /75,000 miles gold preferred plan. on the repair order it stated "ses needs engine / slugged". i was charged $107.07 and was told this was not a warranty issue. i contacted the quality control engineer @ nissan north america's headquarters in franklin, tn and she set up a diagnostic inspection with the field rep from the engine plant / deccard tn. he stated since the tires were needing replacing in the near future and the altima needed washing, it was a sign of neglect and there-fore the smoking and oil consumption was not a warranty issue. the rep said the check engine lamp code was for reference:ntb10-009 - a seized exhaust sensor, which was covered under warranty but not related to the smoking/oil consumption issue. i was employed at the time of this issue with nissan north america, smyrna tn. i was a pre-delivery repair tech @ the manufacturing plant for 25 years until my retirement june 28, 2010. i used the same diagnostic tools that the dealer used and the engine plant field rep used on my car and know for a fact this is a warranty issue. i followed - up the complaint @https://survey.nissan.usa.com with no results. *tr

I have push button start. when i push the button it will click as if the battery is dead (new battery) and then nothing. i push 7 to 16 more times and then the car starts. it may do that several days in a row, several times on one day, or not for several weeks. i took it to my mechanic (not nissan) and the diagnostic test showed nothing wrong. mechanic thought maybe it could be a starter beginning to go bad but there was nothing to point to the starter. he called it a "ghost" problem because it comes and goes. it seems to me that the problem is the ignition switch. once it catches, the car runs just fine. i believe my issue is related to the present nissan recall although my car is not part of the group. i have not taken it to nissan yet because it has been working for two weeks. i bought the car new in august 2007.

My brake light on the console stays on for long periods of time and then turns off. i went to nissan and they told me that there was a leak in the brake master cylinder and with the part and labor it was about $450! my car is no longer under warranty but as i do my research online i find that this is happening to other nissan owners not only 2007 altimas. there is already a recall for the brake master cylinders for sentras. why not for altimas? it is clear that there is a issue and there is historical data to prove it. why do i have pay $450 out of my pocket when it is a know issue that nissan is aware of? do they want to wait till there are a lot of accidents before they do something about it? please investigate on our behalf so that nissan will remedy the situation and start a recall. *tr

I noticed a noise coming from the engine whether the engine was cold or not. it was louder as i accelerated and diminished as i the rpms went down. it was a sound similar to the sound that cards make when inserted into bicycle spokes. after a quick inspection the nissan dealership was able to ascertain that the transmission is cracked and needs replaced. several weeks later i am still waiting a new transmission due to high demand. *tr

I own a 2007 nissan altima. i purchased this vehicle new in july 2007. i had to replace the tires @16,000 miles. i had problems with the tire pressure light on the dash always coming on for no apparent reason. the a/c compressor had to be replaced at approximately 37,000 mi. the second year i owned it, at a cost of $750.00. now, just after my third anniversary of ownership the rear sway bar has broken. in checking on the internet, i find that all these are common problems. however this sway bar problem is a danger for personal safety. the bar is made out of a hollow tube and it rusted into close to where the bar joins the frame. i have never had an accident, had the car towed or driven on anything but paved roads. it just broke for no apparent reason other than poor materials. of course this is not covered either!!! i feel this should be a recall item and owners should be reimbursed for their expense. *tr

My car would not start consistently. i have a 2007 nissan altima with push button start. you have to engage the brake for the start button to work (and have itelli key). the brake light was not registering regularly, so you could start your car and drive somewhere and be stuck. i am lucky i have an honest mechanic who figured out it was the brake safety switch under the pedal and replaced it to resolve the issue. when nissan was notified they confirmed they have sold that part very often. i would think this part should not be one that stops working so easily and is a recall/manufacturing issue. *tr

On 01/25/2010, i was driving from work and while i attempted to stop to a light,the brakes failed to respond. i couldn't control the car anymore. the car slid, and hit another car in the back,but because the speed was low, the damage was minor. after that, the car was frozen ; the police came and the car was towed to a nearby autobody shop; after the outside damage was fixed, the car was transported to a nissan dealership because the car was not drivable.(the soft ware was messed up,as the dealer told me).at the nissan dealership, the software was reset. they couldn't guarantee though that this incident will not happen again. i contacted the manufacturer and explained that this car had a general inspection less than 2 months prior the accident and the annual revision less than3 weeks prior the accident, and now, even the car was fixed the nissan dealer cannot guarantee that the system will not fail again. the manufacturer decided to sent the car for another inspection to the same nissan dealer that couldn't guarantee the safety of my car. at this point, i am afraid driving the car. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. whenever someone sits in the front passenger seat, the air bag light would flash indicating that the air bag was deactivated. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer on march 9th to have the front passenger seat air bag sensor replaced. in december the problem recurred with the front passenger air bag light indicating that the air bag was off. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the air bag light and sensor and they sent a technician to diagnose the vehicle. the technician could not recreate the problem with the air bag light or sensor; therefore, the manufacturer will not repair the vehicle. the contact is concerned about the risk involved due to the air bag sensor malfunctioning and the potential for a serious injury in the event a crash occurs. the failure mileage was 15,211.

This is a recurring problem. i have a 2007 nissan altima 2.5s. as indicated by the safety light on the dashboard, the passenger side airbag in my vehicle will turn on and off repeatedly when i have a passenger sitting in the seat. this is despite knowing the passenger weighs far more (over 150 lbs) than the safety limits for which the airbag should be designed to turn off. the airbag indicator will light notifying us that the passenger airbag has turned off and will often remain lit for 20-30 minutes at a time, but the time will vary. but almost 60-70% of the time when i have a passenger in my vehicle for longer than 5 minutes, at some point in the trip the airbag will turn off for a significant amount of time. this has been brought to the dealer for inspection and i have notified nissan corporate, neither of which has resulted in anything beyond a cursory inspection which resulted in no action being done. this has been on-going for some time now. the "incident date" reported below is when i first began to notice the issue. but again, this is an on-going issue. research online shows that on various forums, i'm not the only one to experience this problem. and again, this happens often enough that i think it more than accounts for simple "sitting awkwardly" or in a weird position. *tw

My 2007 nissan altima 2.5 s has had a ongoing problem for more then a year now. the problem is when a passenger is in the passenger seat, the light stating air bag is off comes on. the individuals in the seat are over 100 pounds in weight. nissan has told me the problem is with the way we are sitting and that the airbag "should" work. should is not a option. the car has been in many times to no avail, including a "expert" from nissan to fix the problem. car is going back for the documented 6th time on this concern. *tr

I own a 2007 6-speed manual transmission nissan altima that persistently malfunctions. since that november date and having reported this problem to the nissan dealership on january 5, 2009, i have experienced on the highway and city streets with passengers, the manual transmission would not upshift, would not downshift, nor release from the position it was in. after repeatedly returning the vehicle to the nissan dealership for the same under warranty repair, the same problem persists to date! despite the dealerships claim of clutch master cylinder and transmission replacement, pressure plate and disc replacement, i have no confidence that this problem will cease to occur, as it is idiopathic and the re-occurrence is unpredictable. thus, operating this vehicle could cause accidental injury or even death. i continue to report my concern to nissan north america usa and to date have not received any satisfaction to quell the unsafe fear factor in owning and operating this vehicle that has not owned up to the nissan manufacturer's moniker, "made to drive. built to last." this internet correspondence serves as my official complaint and request for the office of defects investigation (odi) to open an investigation regarding the 2007 6-speed manual transmission nissan altima. *tr

I owned a 2007 altima at the time. the problem occurs at speeds over 45 mph. if emergency brakes are slammed and lockup until vehicle comes to complete stop the throttle becomes totally unresponsive for up to 1 minute. this happened to me at an intersection and scared the¿[email protected]#$% out of me. similar thing occurred a few days later. i decided to test if this issue can be duplicated. it can with almost 100% accuracy. took car to dealership. duplicated the issue for their confirmation and left car for examination. according to service rep "it is to dangerous to drive car in this condition\". a few hours later got a call from dealer with the following explanation. they tested this issue and were able to repeat it on 3 identical cars. apparently manufacturer told them that this is an expected behavior to protect certain components of a car transmission. i have been in contact with nissan usa and was told that this is not a defect but a design to protect transmission. i have taken several other altimas for test drive and spoke to a number of people. apparently this issue affects all altimas equipped with cvt but not with abs. i believe that abs allows transmission to rotate thus correcting the issue. as far as i am concerned not been able to move a car for up to a minute after an emergency braking could be more dangerous then the emergency itself. can you visualize your self being stuck at an intersection (happened to me) or on a highway? this issue can be easily duplicated . i have traded my car in as i was too scared to drive it. *tr

Passenger air bag light is not active while passenger is in seat. this problem happens intermittently. my wife and i are both about 160lbs and when we sit in passenger seat the "not active" airbag light comes on the vehicle. i contacted nissan about it and they said there was no issue. i took it to the dealer and they could not reproduce. i submitted an issue on nissan website and have not heard anything. if i get in an accident and the airbag does not deploy there could be serious injury or death to the passenger. now there is a recall on the product but dealership is telling me my car is not listed and i have to pay to get it looked at when i'm still under factory warranty. there is no specific incident date since it occurs so randomly. *tr

Follow up to complaint number 10198578. the entire cvt transmission was eventually replaced while the car had only 4500 miles on it. at around 60,000 miles the check engine light came on (8/31/09) so i took it to do the dealership and they received transmission codes. nissan headquarters got involved and determined another transmission was needed. this will be my third transmission on a car that is a little over 2 years old and has only 60,000 miles on it. nissan has said that the cvt transmissions have had few problems, and instead of repairing them, they are just getting replaced. no further explanation was given. i think it's ridiculous. *tr

My new nissan altima 2.5 sl had a dead battery 4 times within 20 months of ownership. the vehicle was returned to nissan factory service three times (one time the service department was closed) - but the problem never resolved. the problem has been widely reported on the internet and is not the battery itself, but related to failures in the vehicle electrical system and "smart key" electronics. nissan refuses to acknowledge or repair the problem. *tr

After 14,000 miles of use the clutch failed to engage the transmission. while driving up hill and shifting lost all drive gears and forward power. stranded in traffic unable to get to the side of the road. problem was that the clutch had burned out which required replacement of the clutch disc. *tr

While driving our 2007 nissan altima the engine stalled. upon exiting the car we saw smoke coming out from the hood. after opening it, we saw the air filter housing glowing and the smoke coming from it. the police pulled the air filter out which stopped the smoking. the car was towed to a nissan dealer who wound up replacing the air filter assembly, cover, air flow sensor, etc for $888.19. the only explanation they could give me for the cause was a cigarette butt or something similar got sucked unto the air intake. there were no other components involved that could have caused this. i had done some research and found a recall for this exact problem - pe07026. i was told my vehicle was not part of this recall and nothing could be done to help us. the dealer brought in a nissan representative who would not honor our request. i also had purchased an extended warranty through nissan but was told this wasn't covered. since the cause of this fire is an exact match to the reason for this recall i believe the recall was not as comprehensive as it should have been. if this can happen to us while just driving on a highway, it can happen to any other owners of this vehicle. the dealer has been in contact with nissan to try to get this covered but has been unsuccessful. *tr

While traveling approx 50mph approaching a curve brake pedal was depressed and car would not stop. driver noticed traffic slowing and reacted by shifting car to neutral and slowly applying parking brake. doing such caused car to fishtail and slide (as roads were wet) and caused a collision. driver has complained since 2007 to dealership regarding brakes and told each time (4 complaints) that nothing is wrong with brakes. brakes were "replaced" 6 months ago by dealership (customer paid) however brake issues still remained. such negligence has resulted in a car accident and thousands in property damage. *tr

The passenger air bag sensor in the seat often does not detect someone in the seat and will disconnect the airbag system from deploying in the event of a crash. spoke with a nissan tech who said the sensor in operating normal; however, i know many people to include the tech's at the dealership who know this is an issue! *tr

No particular events; low tire pressure light came on when there was no problem. not sure of occurrence interval but has happened three times. the consequences are that the light stays on continuously and occasionally starts to blink resulting in driver concern over nothing. have taken vehicle to dealership and they say "no problem with sensors but recommend setting air pressure to 38 psi to get light to stay off" which is 6psi above air pressure decal on door frame that recommends 32 psi. they say this pressure (38 psi) will not impact tire wear which i disagree with completely as well as if you have a 10% pressure build up from normal driving it would exceed the tire manufacturer maximum tire pressure of 41psi. *tr

Our vehicle has had problems for almost two years with the passenger airbag light staying on during travel. we have made numerous visits to the dealer, and unless they can replicate it, they cannot fix the problem. we have even made a complaint with nissan. no one seems to know if the airbag is defective or if there is an electrical problem. we are tired of trying to get this resolved through nissan and the dealer. we do not want to have an accident to see if the airbag works properly. *tr

On 12/13/2008 at 9:00 a.m. my 24 year old daughter entered her 2007 nissan altima and was going x-mas shopping. the entrance to the expressway is less then one quarter mile. she entered the expressway and changed lanes to the far left. approximately one mile of driving on the expressway her steering wheel locked and she was unable to navigate the steering. she started to brake and as she was attempting to navigate and slow her vehicle on the expressway, the steering wheel started to spin causing her to crash into the median wall. no injuries, no other vehicles damaged but her vehicle had extensive damage to the front grill ,fenders and bumper. this is the first time the steering wheel locked. *tr

Oil consumption problem causes engine to lose oil and run rough, rattle, miss. this has been occurring within 2,500 miles after each oil change. the dealer only now acknowledges that it's lost oil, but is requiring that i drive it again for 1,000 miles to run an oil consumption test. the fix is apparently a new engine. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan altima. since 7500 miles, my brakes squeak when brake pedal is pressed. i have had my car in numerous times at the nissan dealership and have been told that there is nothing wrong with my brakes. they acknowledge that they hear the squeak but do not consider it a defect. i complained to nissan usa and was told that when they contacted the dealership that checked the brakes, they were told that there was not a problem and they were never able to duplicate the noise that i was hearing when i stopped. i told was told via email that there was nothing that nissan north america could do to help me. this is very poor customer service. i was also told that when it was time for a brake job, the new pads should not squeak. the service tech told me that the 2008 altima's did not have this problem. *tr

I have taken my altima to the dealer numerous times for a problem with the air bag passenger sensor for the passenger side of the vehicle. the light indicating that the air bag is functioning is coming on and off randomly when someone is seated there. sometimes it will indicate that the air bags are shut off for the entire time that someone is seated, and sometimes it will come on and off intermittently. this is irregardless of the weight of the passenger. also, it will malfunction when no one is in the passenger seat. i am unsure whether the air bag will function in the event of an accident in this state. nissan has replaced the passenger seat cushion 3 times with no effect, and tells us that is the only part that has anything to do with the passenger air bag. laughably, they also tell me that the passengers must be squirming around. based on the number of similar complaints that are filed here, i feel that it is prudent for nhtsa to take action. *tr

We purchased the car new and never experienced any problems with it, at 7k to 8k miles my wife was driving down the highway with our 6mth old baby, she was going to make an attempt to switch lanes and pass a car when the car hesitated and jerked, she thought she was hit from the back but there were no cars behind her, she tried accelerating again and it jerked and wouldn't go at that point the car just died. she managed to pull it over on the shoulder and called me to tell me what was going on. i advise my wife i would be on my way, a minute later i get another call back from her and she tells me that the car is smoking from the front, i tell her it probably is overheating and to stay in the car (we hang up). she calls me one more time about half a minute after and tells me more smoke is coming out and tells me is black smoke, i tell her that black smoke means something is on fire, as im telling her this she tells me that smoke is now coming from the ac vents, that's when i tell her to get out and take the baby and to call 911. i tell her im on my way and we hang up. 2 minutes later she tells me it caught fire and the fire department is on the way. the fire department put the fire out but the car is not totaled at the bodyshop, the car was all burned from the front doors all the way to the front bumper. *tr

I drive a 2007 altima and the passenger airbag light goes on and off and at times stays on for a while, up to 15 miles while driving. we've took it twice to get fix at the dealer ship and the first time they replace the seat liner and that worked for two weeks and the back to the same thing. we took back and they said there was nothing wrong. again the light comes on once in a while and the director at the dealer ship ask us to bring it back, again they could not find anything wrong. we also purchase the extended warranty and as of now it's still malfunctioning every so often. i'm just worry it will not perform properly when needed. now i just don't know what else to do. i don't feel safe to carry my family in the passenger seat anymore. *tr

There is an issue with seat rails in my 07 nissan altima. when i have to stop sudden, hard the seat shifts forward and back. they have replaced 2 times already, but need to be done again. nissan told me they new they had an issue after 2nd repair, that is why they took over month tom fix., now they want to fix with same broken parts, even though originally corporate tech told the dealer not to replace until they had a fix for the problem, they were over ridden by the area rep here. they can not guaranty me it will fix the problems, as well as they can not tell me the seat is going to stop if i had to break for an accident. put a buy back and nissan basically has told me to eat the car nd that they wasn't to keep fixing it. the seat shifting is a safety issue and looking at the nissan altima forums, this is a common issue with this car. had the car in at 1550, and 3000 miles to repair this part, then again in march 08. *tr

We bought a 2007 altima (used) which still had all original manufacture parts on it. the second day that we had it the brakes started squealing. when i took it to the dealer they had it from 7am until i finally got it back at 11pm which seemed weird and upset me very much. they told me that all they needed to do was clean the pads and for extra help they sprayed some stuff on them to keep it from squealing. the next day started squealing again, so i took it back and they told me that they just found out that nissan's corporate tech's were trying to find out what caused all of the altima's to have this issue. then they wanted to put new pad on for me to see if it would help. i agreed and to bring it in the next day and i went home and marked the pads myself and when i took it in i asked to see the old pads when they were finished. when i went in and they showed me the pads they were not the ones i marked and they insisted that they were and the issue was fixed. and they said there will probably be a fix or a recall by next year and to just deal with it if it started squealing again which started as i was still in the dealers parking lot. please help. *tr

Exited interstate highway, traveled up ramp, was unable to lift left foot to brake (possibly caught under parking brake pedal, which is close to the brake), traveled through intersection and hit guard rail, causing $8,800 damage to my 7-mo.-old leased 2007 nissan altima. the whole front end crumbled. because i was not wearing a seat belt, i was thrown into the windshield, hitting and smashing the rear view mirror and cracking the windshield. injuries sustained were not serious, but there would have been no injuries at all if the air bags had deployed. none of them did. i am now very concerned about the safety of myself and any passengers i might have in my car. the dealers service center said that the impact was too high up on the front end to trigger the sensors. if my vehicle had slid under the rear of a truck, i would have been killed in spite of being surrounded with air bags. *tr

Purchased a 2007 nissan altima 2.5s. 1. first problem started when i heard a loud rattling noise when i start the car (this was 2 months after i bought the car). increase rpm to 1.5 rpm to get a louder, crisper noise. took it to the dealer and was told that the heat shield was cracked and needed to be replaced. took 2 weeks for the dealer to fix the problem. noise went away. 2. noise came back again 2 weeks later after it was fixed. brought it to a different dealership to have it checked out to get different opinion. finds out the heat shield was installed incorrectly. resolved, and later told me that there was many complaints about this noise. 3. had a 110lb passenger on the front passenger seat and the air bag off light turned on. have yet to go to the dealer to see why this is happening. 4. after all this, i start the car on december 10th, 2008 and did not warm up car. when starting to accelerate car on street, clicking noises started to emerge. was wondering if there was a problem with the clutch motor or the belt. noise starts disappearing when the car is warmed up (after 8 minutes) decided to test it out by warming up the car first later in the day after it had cooled down, and then driving it, clicking sound emerged again. bought it to the dealership, and told them to make sure to check noise when the car is cold (giver or take 3 hours), they did not listen and checked it when warm, when there is no clicking occurs. deemed fine. 5. brake squeals once in a while when used. have yet to check this one out to the dealership. 6. on a morning of jan. 2, 2008, i have started the car only to notice that the air mode has switched from defrost/foot air mode to foot mode. i thought the air control unit was supposed to memorize the last time i had the mode on but once every often, it switches back to the foot air mode plus turning on the a/c every time the car starts. computer problem maybe? have yet to go to the dealership for this. *tr

I am writing to inform you of a safety concern i have with my 2007 nissan altima hybrid. the vehicle is equipped with tcs and vdc. on december 13, 2007 we got approximately 6 inches of snow during the day while i was at work. on my way home i approached switzer hill road and saw that it had been sanded so i turned and started up the hill. approximately 40 yards up the hill the tcs light came on and my car stopped. the front wheels would not turn at all. i was forced to turn around on the hill and come back down. i was very fortunate that no one was coming down the hill at that time or it could have been disastrous for my self and/or others. the owner¿s manual for the vehicle refers to an off switch for both the tcs and vdc systems in case of an emergency. the manufacture has acknowledged that there are times when the system may need to be turned off. my vehicle has neither switch installed so i am unable to turn off either system in the event i am in heavy snow or mud. the non hybrid version of this vehicle has the switch installed as per the owner¿s manual. i have been in contact with the dealer and nissan both in writing and on the phone. they have stated that the system is working properly because it does apply brake to the wheel that is slipping, and also reduce power from the engine. the problem is that the system works too well. the vehicle has the potential to come to a complete stop and strand the operator. with out the off switch there is no way to move a stuck vehicle. the reason i was given for the switch having not been install is that they thought it might cause the battery to be discharged. as per the manual the system automatically turns back on when the car is turned off. nissan only sells the hybrid in a limited number of states. most of which are in the northeast where it does snow. *tr

I own a 05 altima. recently i was hit from rear, no injury, but air bag light came on. the car was sent for repairs and i was told that the rear end collision was not the cause of sensor failure but the fact the computer chip burned. my question is how long will this chip last and if you should give your customers a heads up on this information ? *tr

I leased a nissan altima 2007 five months ago. the vehicle had about 7000 miles on it when last night i was driving on the nj parkway and my accelerator wouldn't work, so i coasted to the shoulder dodging cars along the way. at this point the check engine light came on. when i reached the shoulder i could see flames under my hood. within ten minutes the entire car was engulfed in flames and had several small explosions. please help me to find out what i can do. since this i have found that there have been 30 similar complaints about the car and when i contacted the car dealer they tried to act like they have never heard of this complaint. *jb

Within a week of purchasing the car i noticed that the light indicating that the passenger side airbag was off would illuminated when the 180 lb husband would sit in the passenger seat properly restrained. not only would it come on and stay on, but it would go off after a little while then come back on. a while later, it would come back on, then go off again. the dealership where i purchased the car reset the computer, but the problem occurred again. at this time, i had a 55 lb child sit in the passenger seat and buckle up the light did not come on. as i understood , it was designed to come on in this situation. the dealership has since put a seat from a new vehicle . nissan was in no hurry to ship the dealer a new seat into the car, but the same problem happened again. now, when i have articles that were somewhat heavy , 20-30 lb, ) in the passenger seat without the seat belt buckled the light will come on, go off, and come back on again multiple times at odd intervals. i didn't believe the sensor is working properly when anyone was in the car.*ak

While driving 60 mph the car jerked forward as if there was a hard shift, the rpms dropped, and vehicle started to decelerate. i thought the cruise control disengaged so i pressed the gas pedal and i was still decelerating. i pulled to the side of the highway. within 30 smoke started coming out from underneath the hood on the drivers side and through the vents. i got out of the car and went to safe place on the side of the road and turned to see the inside of the car completely filled with black smoke. within a minute the flames came out from under the hood of the car. within 10 minutes the car was completely engulfed in flames. this was a rental vehicle that was just completing a round trip of 180 miles. it was approximately 93 degrees with a heat index of 100. he vehicle was rented through enterprise rent-a-car. the agreement number id d-590774 with claim number 76j52. *ak

Brand new 2007 nissan altima took to deale r at 2915 for oil change and asked them to check brakes. they told me they needed to replace back brake pads. while waiting 6 hours they finally were going to let me take it, but the warning light came on. the mechanics were not sure what caused this and they needed the car to stay. at one point i was told the computerwas not doing what it was supposed to with the car. after several days i was told they would need to replace the wiring harness. needless to say when i finally picked up the car they only fixed the wiring harness. it had trouble starting as well. i wait several minutes checking to see that car was in park and brake pedal pushed in and pushed on the ignition with thumb, and nd it took several tries before car started. mind you this was a brand new car? very frustrated.*ak

On some minor slopes, but not all, the cvt transmission-equipped 2007 altima will roll backwards several feet while in "drive" posing a hazard to objects and persons behind the vehicle. this is consistently reproducible in our home driveway but not on steeper slopes such as a parking garage. the surprising condition caused my wife to panic and almost lose control, nearly striking another vehicle. the dealership has been very responsive. however, as of this posting, nissan north america acknowledges but refuses to fix the issue. *jb

I purchased my 2003 altima 2.5s new from the dealer. at approximately 50k miles i began hearing a water noise in the dash and was told by my local shop that i had a cracked radiator. i had the extended warranty so the dealership replaced the radiator for $50, they also fixed the water noise in the dash stating it was related to the radiator. now at 78k miles, i hear the water again and was told by the dealer i had another cracked radiator. i now have the third radiator in my car but still have the water noise. i do not believe 3 radiators in 4 years is "normal" wear and tear. nissan clearly has a problem with radiators/cooling systems and they need to step up and offer some resolution to the many unhappy customers that have purchased these "lemons". *tr

Took it to nissan dealership. air bag light flashing. they found passenger side occupant control unit sensor failure. they said i needed to replace passenger seat cushion at a cost of $2123.88. also, the light on the dashboard reads “passenger air bag off 2 “ when a adult is setting in passenger seat and won’t go off. i contacted nissan corp. and they told me this wasn’t covered by recall. this is a safety issue for me and my family and nissan needs to correct this issue immediately. i look forward to your response in this matter. i wasn’t notified about any recall during the time i had this car. i purchased this car new.

2007 nissan altima. consumer writes in regards to passenger air bag sensor warning light issues. *smd the consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, for a scheduled service visit, as well as for a blinking passenger air bag light. the dealer informed the consumer, the seat cushion needed to be replaced and it would cost $ 1693.55. the consumer declined the replacement. through research, the consumer discovered his make, model and year was subject to a recall campaign on november 8, 2008. however, he was not notified of the recall campaign bulletin. nissan north america, informed the consumer his vehicle identification number, did not fall within the range of the affected vehicles. the consumer referenced recall # 08v521000. *jb

My brake light has been going on and off for a couple of years now on my 2007 nissan altima. i have the car 3 years now and the dealership addressed the issue by resetting the alarm and topping off the brake fluid. now, they tell me that i need to pay $560 to replace the master cylinder brake and if i don't it will fail and i could be involved in a fatal crash depending on where i am at when it happens. of course my car is just out of warranty. i see many complaints on this and the nissan sentra was recalled. why not the nissan altima. it's almost like they are gambling with our lives and taking care of the situation only after the warranty has run out. toyota apparently was not the only one with a brake issue!! *tr

Brake booster was leaking into the master cylinder causing reduced braking efficiency and poor brake operation. brakes were also catching when releasing the brake pedal from use. low brake fluid levels in the reservoir were observed along with the illumination of the brake warning light due to low fluid levels. when fluid was topped off, the illumination light turned off, but brake catching problems continued. dealer replaced master cylinder and brake booster and the problem was resolved. dealer stated that the leak between the two components was the issue. i was charged approximately $800 for the repair. *tr
