2006 JEEP Liberty

Window regulators for the 2006 Jeep Liberty. They are designed so poorly and fail miserably. Some windows in my Jeep I have had fixed 3 times some 2 one once. Coming out to your vehicle to find your windows down inside the door is annoying. I just bought a new sewing machine had it in the car when my window fell. I came out from shopping to find my window down and someone trying to steal my sewing machine. I only have 119,300 klms on my Jeep and have had so much money spent on fixing the windows. I have been told that they have fixed the problem and the last time that my rear windows were fixed they would not fall again. Here I am in the same situation again

When fueling up my Jeep it overflows Everytime. It does not automatically shut off. I bought this vehicle for my 16year old son and definitely feel this is a safety issue. Have there been any recalls to fix this?

Rear driver window wont stay up. It is a common problem with 2006 jeep liberty

Rear passenger window slid down into door. Chrysler says this vehicle is not effected by the manufacturer\'s letter in 2010 regarding faulty/broken window regulators. This is a 2006 Jeep Liberty that has the same problems as many others but for whatever reason the VIN is not part of the manufacturer\'s proactive customer service.

I have owned my Jeep for 6 years, and not one time have I completely filled it with fuel, and it not overflowed. It gushes out soaking me and my Jeep

Every time I start to fill my tank it overflows. I lose approx. 1/2 gallon on the ground every time I put fuel in. This is ridiculous! I just bought this Jeep a few weeks ago. The previous owner/ dealership did not make us aware of this problem.

Fuel spillage when fueling. Happens immediately and all of the time. Take ~ 15min or so to fuel. Have to reduce the flow of fuel from pump down to a drizzle otherwise fuel spills all aver car, ground and me.

left rear window regulator failed, causing that window to drop into the door and remain wide open. self-replaced with aftermarket regulator.

Every time I fill up my gas tank the gas will shoot out and overflow. The pump will not turn off. I’ve had the vehicle for 9 months and it does it every time!

I am the original owner of this Jeep Liberty first of all and I love it, but it is dangerous! I can’t fill the gas tank on my Jeep liberty with out it spewing back out. The first time it happened gas was all on the ground at the gas station. It got all over my hands and paints leg and burned my skin. I was out of town and didn’t have an extra pair of pants to change into. All I could do is pull off at the next exit and try to clean my skin in the restroom. Now I have to hold my ear down to the gas nozzle to hear the tank filling up. My husband can’t hear well so I can’t let him fuel the liberty. Out of fear of gas getting on others and on the ground, I am the only one that fuels the tank. Chrysler will not replace the gas tank because it shows no problem under my VIN number. This is a public and environmental safety problem with gasoline on people and all over the ground! I need this tank replaced, just thunk about it….1/2 gallon of gasoline on the ground for every other Jeep Liberty like mine out there. I talked with Jeep customer service again today and was still denied.

The heat will not come out on the passenger’s side floor. It works everywhere else. Cost will run over $1,000 to fix. The power window behind the driver will drop and not come back up. I’m afraid the window will fall causing an accident or injury to the passenger. The part will cost $100.00. The manufacturer will only correct this problem for 2006 and my factory date is December 2005. My biggest concern involves the fuel system. I purchased my jeep used with low mileage. The fuel doesn’t just “splash” it is a flying projectile. I stand to the side now and make sure I fill the tank only three quarters. I have had clothes ruined and gas all over me. It is not just a fire hazard. What happens when the projectile hits a child or gets me in the face. This is not a laughing matter its serious.

Fuel overflow at the gas pump. Pump will not shut off when tank is reaching the full point, therefore spilling fuel on the car, and possibly the person pumping the fuel.

Liberty Sport: The power windows have failed on this vehicle a multitude of times. The six repair attempts are a conservative estimate. I have lost count. The most recent failure of the power windows was no longer under warranty, so I will attempt to do the repair myself. This is an engineering defect and any “repairs” done by the dealership are stop-gap measures.

Transmission seal leaked, brake rotors replaced 3,000 miles ago, told I need new ones again. Brain (computer) failed, rearend blew out, right blinker quits, replaced bulb but still intermittent. Rear passenger window falls down, doesn’t work and door won’t open. All but the brakes, battery, blinker and window were covered under the extended warranty I had purchased but that expired a year ago.

my power rear window regulator stopped working on my drivers side rear window shortly after I bought the Jeep. About a year ago, my drivers side window regulator stopped working. This has been very bad. I own a 2006 Jeep Liberty which has had enough complaints about this part that Jeep should recall this defect…

My window broke and completly fell in my door and the dealership won’t fix it because it was manufactured before the recall date. I have two small children and can’t drive them anywhere because it’s to cold and the wind is to much. I can barely afford to eat much less pay for a $240 window repair.

This is the 5th time I had to repair window regulators in my 2006 Jeep Liberty. Each time I had to contact Jeep for reimbursement. There has been many complaints on this issue and don’t understand why no recall has been issued.

This email is being sent to alert you to what I consider a serious safety issue. My wife owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty that has a problem with fuel spillage. While adding gasoline to the car, when the tank reaches full a significant amount of gas will gush out of the filler neck and spill onto the ground. This is a serious fire hazard. The car was taken to the Jeep dealership and they stated that its probably a problem with a fuel valve in the gas tank. They can repair the problem but at a significant cost.

This is not an isolated problem on my wife’s car but is common on Jeep Liberties as is evidenced in numerous posts on the Internet. Since it is a common problem on this model car, I believe that Chrysler should issue a recall and fix this serious safety problem.

I would appreciate being informed as to any action you can take to insure that Chrysler corrects this serious defect.

WINDOW JUST FELL DOWN

1: Remote Mirror switch had to be replace. $160
2. Window Regulator broke and had to be replaced. $210

The window regulators in this Jeep are garbage. The first (June 2010) failed and I had to pay for the repair. The second failed soon after that and Chrysler covered the repair and reimbursed me $333 for the first one. Now the third one has failed (September 2011) and they are “considering” reimbursing me for the repair. Google “Jeep Liberty window problems” and you will see that too many people are dealing with this problem. Chrysler placed some builds under an extended warranty, but mine, although it was built in 2006, is not covered. Apparently it was built before March 15, 2006, which is their arbitrary cutoff date for coverage under the extended warranty. TONS of time and effort are being WASTED replacing these window regulators. Chrysler should step up and fix these once and for all. Barring them being able to do that, they should at least provide FULL coverage of these regulators and lift plates for EVERYONE who owns a Liberty. Shame on you, Chrysler.

Well documented flaw with the window regulator of jeep liberty. Chrysler is only covering cars built in certain factory. This flaw is in all jeep liberty window lift extensions that have been evolving over the years. Window will fail to raise when a nylon piece breaks & the window will not raise.

When filling up gas tank at any gas station to full, whether pumping manually or automatically, when pump clicks off when tank is fuel gas begins to shoot/pour out of the gas tank and down the side of the vehicle/onto owner and to the ground. Jeep customer service notified, only recognized for 07-08 Wranglers, no help/service provided to fix this issue. Customer left to pay full price for defective vehicle with the listed solution for this problem being to replace the fuel tank. This issue poses a threat to the environment, safety of others due to fire hazard in public places and damage to vehicle paint from the gas pouring down the side. I do hope this problem will be publicly rectified/recognized by Chrysler in the near future.

Both window regulators have broken within months of each other. One window regulator part jammed my door shut. I did not repair yet because I was not paying 960 dollars for a manufacturer’s defect. This is my second jeep that this has happened to and my third window. Once it happened during a snowstorm and I did not have a garage and once it happened when I had my car parked in downtown Honolulu for the day and then it rained. Should not be happening on such low mileage.

Sun Visor hooks are in such a position(down), especially on the drivers side, that the force needed to release the visor to swing it to the left window causes momentary visual loss of the road. Upon checking other vehicles in our Chrysler-Jeep dealership all had hooks the same(up). It appears the Jeep Liberty is mutually exclusive.My question, is there a solution? In december 2020, i stopped at the post office to drop a letter in the outdoor box. i rolled down my window, deposited the letter, and drove off. as i was raising my driver side window, i heard a loud noise and my window dropped into the car door. it was another broken window regulator. it was 30 degrees outside and i had other errands to run. i had to drive around the city with my window half-way down in the freezing weather. jeep had a recall in 2010 stating "we are extending the warranty period for window lift plate repairs because some vehicles have experienced repeat concerns with window components. if you have already experienced this window regulator concern and have paid to have it repaired, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement." when i was notified about the recall, i submitted receipts for the three incidents i had with broken window regulators that needed to be replaced. chrysler reimbursed me my full out-of-pocket expenses of $708.28 on january 24, 2011. now i need them to pay me $461.50 for the window regulator that was replaced on april 14, 2021. this is an ongoing problem, and most of all, a safety issue because of the distraction it causes to a driver. i recently read the following: distracted driving is a deadly problem—it led to 3,142 deaths in 2019, according to the most recent statistics from the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa). chrysler should extend the window regulator recall on jeeps and reimburse me $461.50 because this is a real safety hazard. what if i had been driving on the interstate at 70 mph and my six pound baby was in his car seat in the back seat, and his window fell in due to a bad regulator? that would be a major distraction to me and a definite safety concern for my baby. this is definitely not a parts problem. this is a huge safety issue.

Jeep window regulator on rear passenger side door suddenly failed for no obvious reason. window just fell inside the door while the car was parked and the entire system must be replaced.

2006 jeep liberty. consumer writes in regards to passenger side rear suspension and lower control arms damages caused by corrosion. *smd the consumer stated when the arm broke, it caused the consumer to veer to the left into oncoming traffic. the consumer stated he was never informed of a recall, despite there being one issued for his make, model and year vehicle. *jb

Vehicle was in motion. a co worker told me my tail light was out and the next day i looked at it and tried to replace the bulb but the bulb was melted and broken inside the lens. the bulb was melted to a piece of plastic inside...to some type of fin. this is the driver side tail light. i also had the same problem with the passenger side tail light assembly earlier this year. i replaced the bulb 3 times before i figured out what the problem was. now the same problem has occured with the driver side tail light assembly. the bulb melted to that fin inside the assembly and could not be removed to replace the bulb. i had to replace the entire tail light assembly again, which is very expensive at $130 each plus the bulbs. this could have caused a fire...or a wreck since my brake lights did not work until this tail light assembly was special ordered and relaced, which took a couple of days to receive. this problem seems like a defect.

On crowded city street applied brakes as someone was starting to cross street in a crosswalk. engine started to rev up and car would not stop. i went through the crosswalk and managed to stop safely. tried a few slow speed stops, and car seemed okay. then a few minutes later at another crosswalk applied brakes. engine revved up. had both feet on brakes. rear brakes seemed to fail. rear tires started to burn rubber with loud squealing noise. i was able to shift into park. engine slowed down and was able to drive off afterwards. made it home (9 miles). did a few slow stops on the way. brakes worked okay and engine did not rev. very concerned about any further driving of this vehicle. pedestrian lives definitely were in danger.

I found online that there's a recall on lower ball joints that get corroded and stop working properly, that can cause a break of the item and loose the steering while driving. well it's already corroded and no wheel alignment can be done without replacing both joints.already called the dealer and they denied any recall on ball joints. i decided to stop driving the car because it's getting hard to drive. when i turn the steering wheel you can feel the joint making a metal to metal sound, while stopping and when starting to move

Window regulator keeps failing. the first time it happened was in 2010. i have had 4 regulators replaced since i bought the car in 2006. i now have both driver side windows that are broken and will be fixed next week when parts come in. this is now the 5th and 6th regulators i have had to have don. very aggravating!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all own cars. my car has this problem where the power windows suddenly stop working. in other words, i can lower my window and have it suddenly decide to not come back up, leaving me with a vehicle subject to all kinds of theft. this problem has happened thirteen times now on my 2006 jeep liberty and chrysler expects me to pay $475 for each repair. i want chrylser to provide this service for me free of charge, only because they did the first twelve times. without this support, i am in a position where i cannot keep my car and cannot afford a new one. do you know what it feels like to lower your car window and have it suddenly not come back up? especially in the cold of winter? the customer service center gave me every excuse they could find to not help me out. and they also told me i was being pretentious. how would you feel if this was how a car manufacturer treated you? i come from a family of jeep owners and chrysler (the mother company) would rather lose my business and permit me to talk negatively about them then stop to help me. they even encouraged me to hit the net and start submitting reviews. this is sort of callous negligence is not what any kind of consumer should endure. at this point, what reason do i have to perform the service? what reason do i have to keep my car? what reason do i have to ever shop with their brand again?

My anti skid, abs, and esp lights are on. the cruise control is not working. also, at about 50 mph, my front end acts up. i am told that this is a known problem with the clock spring.

When filling car with gas on leveled surfaces. the car will burp fuel out the filling neck spilling out on the road and grass. spoke to a local dodge and they said they had no fix for it but it is an issue.

When fueling, the pump does not shut off. this has been reported as an o-ring problem and recalled in later models.

Shifter moves freely between park-reverse-neutral-drive-2nd-1st gears. this happens when the vehicle is turned on and off; and with or without a key in the ignition. if the shifter is bumped while driving down the road, the vehicle can be thrown into reverse and/or park. when i contacted the jeep dealer in springfield missouri, i was told that jeep has since redesigned the shifter control and the entire assembly must be replaced. cost for the entire assemble is approximately $480 plus labor. if the problem is so apparent that it can be found thousands of times using google, and if the manufacturer has since redesigned the entire shifter control system; then one would think that they should have issued a recall.

Since i brought the car in 2008 at times the interior dash light and head lights flicker also the air bag light all the sudden stays on. i have intermediate no start at this time so i can't really use the car. i believe this might be an electronic issue.

My jeep was part of a recall in 2012. the drivers side rear window wouldn't go up or down. l-27 rear control arms were replaced. 02-l2-71-82 rear control arms and cbfzl270aa arm lower control. the same thing happed recently, but on the passenger side rear. can you help me get the window fixed as part of the recall in 2012?

Gasoline will always blow out of the filler when fueling. at least 1/4 cup and sometimes a full cup of gasoline will be expelled at each refueling. gasoline will be sprayed on hands, pants, shoes, side of car and on the ground. this problem has happened over the past year.

Car can not be placed in park and have it stay there, key will not come out

Vehicle was in motion 30 mph. front passenger side made a grinding noise and entire vehicle shook. lost complete steering control and crossed 3 lanes of traffic before bringing the vehicle to a stop. vehicle was in the far right lane and crossed over 3 lanes before stopping. location was on a city street.

When filling the tank with fuel, the pump does not shut off, and the fuel filler tube belches fuel onto the side of the truck and the ground. this causes a fire safety issue, the fuel damages paint and plastics on the vehicle, it is wasteful, and is hazardous to the environment.

I was suffocating until the airbag exploded causing cuts to my hands holding steering wheel. a cut or slash above my left brow abraisions to my nose cut on face and upper lip bruised chest for 5-6 weeks of pain & explosion blew out the back of a front tooth crown & loosened 3 other front teeth as well as cracking my bridge to the upper right if my mouth! received a recall notice 2 days ago regarding the airbag i was furious! nobody could understand how i sufferred all those injuries. my insurance did not cover medical. i was totally bed ridden for the first 10 days. i could barely breathe and or move! i did not go to emergency i couldnt afford to pay the bills. i will have dental march 2017. i have been on state disability since 2005 and i'm financially limited . thank god my sister and neighbors helped me thank you repectfully ; agnes craig 3221 matterhorn way. ceres, ca. 95307.i almost forgot my lower right molar had a pin from root canal and the entire crown shattered and fell out of m i could have lost more than blown out teeth crown & bridge. cuts and trama to my hands face arms it was extremely tramatizing. i looked horrible 2 black eyes cuts on face scrape marks bumped bruised still cant eat normal food without discomfort & pain. i see the scars. i use alot of make up. im depressed and driving is not as enjoyable. it was dark rainy and driving in narrow 2 way traffic swerved to miss a dog or coyote? then went off the road rolling down a ditch coming to a stop by a tree. i was driving about 15 - 20 mph. i am 411 and was at first pinned and suffocating my chest was badly bruised for weeks hurting even to breath i was literally bed ridden and out of sight for the first 10 days. trying to figure out how ingit so cut up banged up bruised.

The car vibrates a lot , the car loses control especially with turns to dangerous, and slides from rear

Fuel tank fill tube shutoff is defective and fuel spills out when filling fuel tank.

I’ve had lower ball joints, bushing and control arms already replaced once in 2017 and now they are out again. i’ve been told by mopar that my 2006 liberty was made 5 weeks after the last one involved in the recall.this is inexcusable. i’ve had 3 window regulators replaced. this is a fatality waiting to happen if i drive. i started hearing and feeling the ball joints going bad about 2 weeks ago. i hardly have driven it since i work from home now. can chrysler see all these complaints about the ball joints and still not add these 06 jeep’s to that recall. this is not good business at all. also just had front brakes done 1 year ago and they need replaced already. ignition - my key will not come out of the ignition unless i push on the ignition cable. please help me to get these problems fixed. this is unacceptable from chrysler.

Rh lower ball joint broke today. car is immobile. this ball joint was replaced one year ago, when it first failed. the lh one also broke 6 months ago. all 3 failures where in parking lots. my liberty's vin is not in the recall range. jeep refuses to talk to me. their explanation about water ant corrosion is not technically valid. i am an aerospace engineer and deal with this sort of thing all the time. the cause is cyclic loading of the tapered pin, high tension load and a stress riser at the thread. replacing the ball joint only provides more failure opportunities. i would like to know the number of deaths and injuries this has caused. *tr

I recently purchased a 2006 jeep liberty 2006. every time i put fuel in it, it overflows. it is not automatically shutting.off therefore spilling over and getting all over the car or me. this is very dangerous. i tried filling up at a few different gas stations and it is the samerthng. on the internet it is showing many people have concerns about this why isn't there a recall? i am afraid someone will throw a cigarette out their window and i will blow up. i wipe it.up each time.

When filling the gas tank, there is almost always overflow that spills out of the nozzle onto the side of the vehicle and onto the pavement. i would estimate this happens about 80% of the time i fill up.

Yesterday my abs and esb lights came on. i did notice a bit of grinding type noise approximately twice in a full day of driving. today, same thing, but lights went off a couple of times right after start up. my brakes and tires were replaced in late august. the repair shop said my brakes were in good order but the right rear wheel speed sensor is bad. if this doesn't correct issue, a wheel alignment and reset the steering angle is recommended. none of these issues would warrant the odd grinding noise when breaking and only occassionally does this happen and it did not occur when the technician drove it. this was all on city streets and driving straight in good weather. a quick google search indicates this is a problem with many owners of the 2006 jeep liberty. many people have replaced the brakes, sensors, rotors and all things brakes but still experience the lights and the noise. often, there is reference made to the clock spring. since i saw so many complaints and my repairman was so vague that his recommendations would actually solve the issue, i felt it is worthy of investigating.

There is an active recall on some 2006 jeep liberty's, however mine was not included in the recall but is having the issues of the recall. i need my vehicle included in the recall since it is a problem my vehicle is experiencing. i was told by the dealer that the front ball joints (control arms) are out and that is what the recall is for. there was also a recall for the rear control arms and we had that recall corrected. please add my car to the recall list so thsi can be corrected.

While cruising a 50 mph not on crews control the engine started racing with out pressure on the accelerator. when stopped in natural the engine went to 4000 rpm and surged +- 500 rpm.

Both rear, driver and passenger side power window regulator,. failed.causing windows to drop while driving 1 month apart. very dangerous. in motion, on a city highway very scary and dangerous.could cause accident or harm to passengers.

I have been the sole owner of this vehicle purchased new in 2006 and have experienced door window issues occurring 8 times due to "lift plate, and regulator" problems. in investigating other complaint for this model year, window issues seem to be persistent problems. date of occurrence are 8/4/07 back window; 11/5/07 front window; 10/29/08 passenger side rear window; 7/16/10 left right window; 8/19/14 right passenger window; 2/7/18 driver window, 7/13/20 front passenger window. i contacted chrysler reporting the most recent issue and they stated the vehicle was too old for a active complaint or any reimbursement. i want awareness of this issue to be known and reported.

Parking brake backing plates have come loose and the parking brake shoes are dragging and wearing out too fast

My front lower ball joint broke my windows regulators don't last 6 months i tried to do the recalls since i bought thing and every time i tried i get the same thing we don't have the parts we don't have the parts not 1 of my recalls have been done tried n tried got feed up when i seen that there all off my vin look up for my 06 recalls but 1and the funny thing is i just i made a service appointment on line to get lower control arms this week didn't say about no really until i was there and they were getting ready to pull it in then all of a sudden they don't have the parts in they would have to order them what a joke my ac blower hasn't worked on 1 since bought it new can't belive it has not caught on fire yet i'm now at almost 100000 miles they ain't done anything yet and not going to either i'm sure i'm wasting my time typing this useless information as wasted my time trying to get all my recalls fixed wishful thinking thanks for listening have a good day

While driving heard loud noise , thought it was a tire blowout in front passenger tire. drove about 25 feet, sounded like driving on rim. parked and inspected car, no problem with tires. called tow truck. tow truck hooked car up from rear causing exposure of detachment under neath

Abs light keeps going off even when brakes and rotors has been replaced . brakes will skip or make a shaking vibration on the pedal when press and makes it hard to stop or impossible while in motion rather driving in the city or on the highway.

Purchased 2006 jeep liberty brand new, it is used only seasonally. garage kept, approximate mileage is 39,300 miles. safety recall on 2006 jeep liberty for upper and lower ball joints. the vehicle is dangerous. when turning, steering wheel does not come back except manually. chrysler advises my vin number is not included in the recall. i have seen that comment several times on this site. this is not my first issue with jeep vehicles. we went to the jeep dealer who stated there are no open recalls, we contacted chrysler who stated there are no open recalls. there are 10 recalls on this vehicle, whenever notified it was brought to jeep. the suspension issue is a safety recall on 2006 jeep liberty and conveniently my vin number is not part of the recall. a garage kept seasonally used vehicle properly maintained with 39,000 miles has this issue and is now being repaired at my expense. chrysler needs to be investigated. please advise what other info is needed.

Every time a fill gas the car overfills and lots of gas spills out. this is happening at all different gas stations and i have seen others online with the same problem, my car has only 65k miles. this is for sure a safety issue that must be recalled, it is a huge fire hazard.

I brought my car into the dealership for other recalls and was told that the front ball joints are very loose and that this is a safety related issue. i checked the nhtsa website and noticed that the year and make of my car had a recall for ball joint issues but my vin number wasn't included in the recall. i have a 2006 jeep liberty.

I've to replace the rear tail light assembly 4 times, it keeps blowing out the brake and tail light. i've also had to purchase 5 a/c compessors for this truck and the abs, traction light stays on.

I was leaving my parking lot when i heard a clunk and my driver side of the jeep lowered. i got out and looked and my tire was tilted at an angle. a couple of my neighbors looked under the jeep and said that it was the ball joint and that the axle was on the ground.

I was on the highway came to a stop at a traffic light the jeep stalled and would not restart (no crank, no start). the traffic light was on a incline of a hill, the jeep was too heavy for one person to push up, and rolling backwards into oncoming 60+mph traffic was not a option. a group of good citizens helped push the jeep to safety. battery was fully charged, but security light was on, preventing a restart. in addition when the key is turn to the start position the check engine light does not light up as normal. plus ecm is not connecting to the scan tool. scan tool displays connection error. the ecm failed. before the failure the jeep ran perfect.

After fueling and starting the vehicle, it fails to accelerate for several minutes. also when fueling it doesn't stop and will overflow onto the ground if you don't keep track of how much gas you are putting in. another issue is that the vehicle shakes very badly when idle.

1. front upper and lower control arms are not functioning as they supposed to. if there is a small bump in the road this suv vihecle got hit strongly. bolts are out of order too. on motion makes lots of noise and squeezing sounds as well. 2. internal elecrical wiring has some issues. the front ceiling light gets on and off on its own. the aircontioner led light as well.

I the vehicle safety inspection and was told the left side lower ball joint going bad. the transmission module is tripping the check engine light. the driver side windows (front and back) makes awful sound going up. the ac compressor has stopped working.

I own a 2006 jeep liberty that had a recall repair completed on the front ball joint prior to the purchase of the vehicle in 2012. since that time, the vehicle again had a problem with a ball joint corrosion in the same location right passenger suspension. jerry ulm refused to repair the ball joint unless i paid for the upper and control arm.. i had to repair the issue at a local shop for $500. now it is making a terrible sound and i tried to get another dealer to repair it on a recall but they refused.

Ignition key interlock. cant take key out of ignition due to gear shift interlock. have to leave key in ignition risking vehicle getting stolen.

So basically i’m driving my mom to work and about to reach and light and acceleration isn’t working and i’m like whatever it’s a red light ill just brake so i brake then the light turns green i press the acceleration and nothing it’s not moving so then the steering wheel locked up literally couldn’t turn it i miss the light turn off the car turn it on it’s working i get to a stop sign the same thing happens but the oil light comes on so i’m like ok maybe this then i buy oil then i’m on my way home making a right onto a main road i’m like ok i’ll make it and again the acceleration stops working and the steering wheel locks up so before it locks all the way i pull up and then turn it off back on and drive all the way home with the hazards you have no idea how terrifying it was to be on a main road and the acceleration stops like i pressed all the way and it wouldn’t increase the speed the steering wheel locked couldn’t even slightly turn so it was so scary i’m so scared to drive it and idk what to do or how to fix it that’s why i need help

When filling the gas tank, the pump fails to automatically shut off due to a faulty fuel filler neck. the entire gas tank must be replaced because the valve is part of the tank and cannot be replaced separately. the fuel spillage hazard creates risk of explosion at the gas station.

While driving my 2006 jeep liberty, for no apparent reason, the esp, abs, and brake lights all sarted flashing at once. since then, my vehicle would constantly lose power and stall out when attempting to accelerate. diagnostic check indicated a defective speed sensor. it was replaced, and the issue corrected itself somewhat for a couple of months. however...the same exact issue returned. it progressively became so bad i had to remove the abs fuses in order to even drive the vehicle, thus creating an equally dangrous situation. my jeep is out of warranty, of course, and i've read tons of complaints of the exact same problem with this vehicle, so i am basically (dangerously) waiting for a recall to occur.

Key gets stuck in ignition. forcing customers to pay $1,000 for a mistake made by chrysler. the vehicle was in a parked position and key wont pull to last click. there is a temp fix to this but requires you to pull out plastic from gearshift to push down cable. jiggling and doing everything you can to remove it will not fix the issue. chrysler made faulty parts and was told by the dealer they are new parts available in arch 22nd for a permanent solution.

This is regarding a 2006 jeep liberty. driving the jeep on a highway going approx. 65-70mp, something broke underneath the vehicle. the front end had broken down almost to the ground, but was able to get to the side of the highway without crashing. had it towed to a mechanic. the mechanic estimate reported there is major corrosion in the ball joint, the control arm-r&r 4wd upper, both sides need replacement, axle shaft cv assembly r&r transmission type 4-wheel abs both sides. ball joint-r&r 4wd lower, both sides, control arm with ball joint-front upper, ball joint front lower, constant velocity (cv) driveshaft-front left need new. was told this was not covered under the recall because the recall was for rear control arm fracture (nhtsa campaign number: 18v278000) causing corrosion in ball joint. not the front control arm. even though the front control arm seems to have the same problem. photo supplied of corrosion in front. had two mechanics estimate cost to fix, but when the recall was noticed online, had it towed to greenway chrysler jeep dealership in orlando. they performed diagnostics and sent the information to chrysler corp. to see about getting this covered under the recall, but told chrysler refused to cover the repairs.

Received recall notice u38/nhtsa 18v-278 in june 2018 via usps. took several weeks to get appointment with a local jeep dealer. car was taken in sept 17th to uftring jeep dealer 140 radio city dr, pekin, il 61554. this dealer determined that my vehicle does need the recall parts (rear control arm & any other necessary parts to complete the repair). i was told the parts are on backorder and uftring stated that there is no specific or estimated date for parts to arrive. this is very dangerous and my only means of transportation. is jeep willing to provide me with a rental car until the repair is completed? i want to know where these parts are and when they will be available in my area to repair my car?

Nhtsa 18v-278 replaces only trailing arms. what about worn bolts? dealer reinstalls used hardware to save money ($20-25 for new bolts at local hardware store, 1-2 hrs to install in driveway by owner. 6 hours estimated by dealer at $127.00 an hour not including hardware. according to dealer, new hardware is not included with this recall. this dealer will not accept any recall appointments at this time.

6/9/2018 around 11:30 am engine - starts and stalls without warning. was driving and slowed down to merge with traffic to enter the highway and engine shut down no warning. it started back up; however, the car behind me almost ran into the back of me - car behind me started blowing the horn continuously; although, flasher was turned on immediately. it occurred 3 more times within an hour - 2 times when attempting to park the vehicle and one time when on the highway and had to slow down as traffic came to a near halt. very scary situation. about 5-6 months ago this occur about 5-6 times in heavy afternoon traffic due to an accident. thought it was the gas; now i see it is occurring again. has to be a bigger or more serious problem. others are experiencing the same problem just look online. can not afford to allow car to idle too long. same vehicle where abs, esp/bas, traction/anti-skid lights remain on even after installing a new clockspring and all four abs sensors. do not have any pictures to upload.

When filling tank gas does not stop automatically, there is a lot of gas that overflows down side of car onto the ground. doesn't matter speed of filling the tank it will overflow unless manual stop of filling prior to gas tank being full and will sometimes still overflow. the vehicle is off and parked at the pump, doesn't matter what gas station is used the issue happens. this happens every time filling up with the last time on 5/12.

I have a dealership converted right hand drive jeep liberty. i was slowing down pulling up to a mailbox and the left lower ball joint snapped in half. two days later i was pulling away from a mailbox and the right lower ball joint snapped in half. both times i was in motion. luckily, i was going slow and they were on back roads. i had a mechanic check all joints prior to them breaking and he said everything looked fine. my husband and father even checked after him. i checked my vin number and it was not listed.

The driver side ball joint has broken 7 times in 1 year and has been replaced. using 4 different mechanics assuming it was the mechanic. this has happened each time while driving. the last mechanic put an additional nut and has assumed to work. he also indicated that he has repaired other jeep liberty's with same problem in one case he welded it on, i have seen 3 others in my small town that you can see they also have a driver fender that is damaged as mine is when the ball joint breaks and tires pushes wheel fender off. this is not an isolated problem and can not believe this issue has not been addressed in a recall, it asks for a date, well the first time was spring of 2017 since then it has happened 6 additonal times

I fill up the tank but the gas tank does not show that i put gas in it.

Driving vehicle and vehicle started making popping noises right rear, and vehicle felt like the rear end was fishtailing why front was still going straight. took to certified dealer and they reported unsafe vehicle report filed due to frame rotted through on right rear where lower control arm attaches to the frame. this is a recall item for 2006 jeep liberty in may 2018 (u38). outreached to mopar and as told no recall on vin for this yet if authorized dealer stated it is what recall is they would file claim. when told it is, was documented on invoice, mopar stated they never said that, was nothing could do, would not file claim against u38 recall, and because unable to fix and old vehicle nothing would be done to correct this.

On friday, 02/15/19, traveling back from austin to houston, tx, with my 4 year old son for my weekend visitation, i had stopped at the entrance to my apt complex and was waiting for the access gate to open to enter. turning right and elevating slightly to enter my complex, i heard a loud grinding noise and felt the front passenger side of my vehicle lower. i thought i had managed to run over the curb along the public street and tried to reverse when the same loud grinding noise could be heard. i immediately stopped, placed the car in park, and then got out of the vehicle to inspect. i could see that the wheel was folded inward towards the vehicle. looking under the car i could also see the lower control arm now resting on the ground on the passenger side. i had zero idea what could've caused this but was extremely thankful it had not occurred while i was traveling in excess of 80 mph on the hwy with my son in the back seat. the vehicle was still on the street in front of the back entrance to my apt complex and a passerby stopped to see if he could help. he recognized the source of the problem and told me that my passenger wheel had separated from the ball joint. he mentioned that he had seen this happen to number of other vehicles. a local harris county sheriff officer arrived on the scene and i called my state farm insurance roadside assistance to have my vehicle towed. the vehicle was towed to a nearby a nearby dealership, autonation jeep/chrysler. on monday, 02/18/19, i stopped by the dealership and was told that the wheel separation had caused damage to a number of components. i began researching on-line and found out that a previous nhtsa campaign had been opened in 2006 that centered around the exact problem my vehicle experienced; nhtsa campaign#: 06v288000, daimler/chrysler recall#. f23. this recall needs to be extended & additional owners notified.

The fuel tank has a chance of experiencing a fuel leak duringcertain types of rear end collisions. this could result in a fire.

The bracket that is riveted to the seat frame/pan and bolted to the seat back fractured into two pieces. the bracket on each side of the frame failed under normal use conditions. i purchased a replacement used frame and upon did-assembly discovered the same failure. this could be a fatal condition in a crash, especially if there is a passenger in the rear seat.

There has been an existing recall on 2006 jeep liberty front ball joints but i have been told by someone i called at your company that my jeep liberty was made just 6 weeks after the last date of the recall. it was made at the same plant!! my front ball joints need replaced badly and i do believe this should be covered. i bought new tires and cannot even get them aligned because of the ball joints i do not have the $$$

While driving about 55mph on 95 south (4 lanes of trafic), the front of jeep jerk, shuttering, loud noice, immediately lost power engine light came on. i pushed on emergency blinkers and strong armed jeep on an angle to the side of the road. emergency assistance tow required. dealer reporting catastrophic engine failure , now confirmed by second regionial consultant provided by chrysler earlier this week. agreed to replace engine. concern that if chrysler 3.7 engines have a historical problem a recall should be issued.

Keep liberty limited edition 2006 issue with front and back control arms along with suspension issues. i have fixed this 2 to 3 times in about 2 years.

Left rear taillight has gone out - replacing the bulb doesn't work. looks like the housing/socket is partially melted. also, left front parking light has gone out and changing the bulb has not resolved that either.

While applying brake & shifting to reverse, car accelerated in reverse at high speed with no throttle engaged. brake was pressed the whole time and pumped to stop vehicle, there was no braking. a pole was impacted crushing vehicle. no warnings of this issue. this has left the family in fear of ever driving a jeep. this was a jeep liberty 2006 with less than 70k miles. well kept maintained vehicle.

Received a recall for a safety issue. took jeep to dealership in mnt home, they confirmed my jeep was part of the recall and needed to order the parts. i informed them that i traveled 45 min on the freeway 80mph for work so it was urgent to fix. they said they would call me back with an appointment early the following week(this was on 7/11). they never called back. i have called them numerous times. one guy told me i wasnt even in their system and said he would call other dealers to try and get the part. everytime i call nobody is available to take my calls. its a safey driving issue and nobody has the part??? my vehicle is getting worse and is now at a point where you can hear it cracking or snapping and scary to drive as it is all over the place and swervy.

I had to have my front suspension ball joints replaced. i understand that my vechile was not on the recall list but it was built in march 2006. they were about to fall apart when i took them to be repaired. i think they should be covered under this recall. i heard a noise and when i took what i thought was breaks. i was told it was lucky that the ball joints had not fallen out. i had just got back from a four out drive to the beach. thanks for your help.

There is only one window that will come down and it’s the front driver side, they all came down and would not come back up. i replaced a regulator in the right back window and it went again so i just had them all pinned up. i’ve also had to replace the ac compressor twice and just put in 07/06/2018. i had to have a transmission put in 3 years ago. and now the truck is just shutting down when i come to a stop but it will start back up. i had a diagnosis test done and it didn’t show any problems, but it’s still shutting down and i don’t know why. the mechanic said it is probably something electrical or has to do with the computer.

The rear suspension lower control arm has been recalled. the front needs to be recalled before someone gets killed. same problem in the from. my boy could have been killed. created extensive damage. *dt no vin available*jb

There is a white powder like substance that comes out of the air vents and has an oily texture and an overpowering smell. it clouds the windshield and obstructs my vision. i cannot drive it due to the clouding and smell. this happens when i am driving anywhere, turning, or stationary. i do not know what caused this to happen as i have not had an accident in the car. i can't have it repaired as i cannot afford it. i have a nice vehicle, but cannot drive it in this condition. so the cause is unknown.

Have already filed a complaint. updating information. complaint #11105312. my vehicle was manufactured 9 days after the cutoff for the 2006 recall # 06v288000. my vehicle had the failure of the front lower control arm ball joint. it was not art of the 2006 recall however, it is part of the current recall for the rear lower control arm ball joints. the original cutoff build date was march 15, 2006. my vehicle was manufactured just 9 days later on march 24, 2006. it seems far too much a coincidence that my vehicle has the same rear ball joints that are subject to recall and replacement, which chrysler has done, but the front ball joints were not covered in the original recall. i was going 35mph when the part failed. the failure came without any warning and was instantaneous. the ball joint broke and instantly pierced the alloy rim and deflated the tire. had i been going 70mph, i would have flipped and rolled instantly. furthering the issue is as best i can determine, the front and rear ball joints are the same part. i am reporting that since my initial complaint, i found out my vehicle was built a mere 9 days after the original recall cutoff date.

3 out of the 4 window regulators in my jeep have mechanically broken inside the door. this needs to be addressed. it's not a cheap fix for me to keep paying for your mistake. i was going to buy another jeep, but not so sure anymore

Ball joint on right front lower control arm broke while driving causing vehicle to swerve and make a loud grinding sound. tires had been rotated a few weeks prior and there was no noticeable wear or looseness in the steering or suspension.

Gasoline over flows from fill tube every time the vehicle is filled with gasoline. this happens at every fill up and every station used to get gas.

6v288000 recall date 08/03/2006 component suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint summary on certain trucks, the constant tension front lower ball joints may experience contamination. if the vehicle is operated for an extended period with this condition, the ball joint may eventually experience wear and looseness. consequence when the driver continues to operate the vehicle with this condition, the contamination can lead to corrosion, accelerated wear and possibly separation from the steering knuckle causing a loss of vehicle steering control increasing the risk of a crash. what owners should do dealers will replace the front lower ball joints free of charge. the recall began on september 11, 2006. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

The tilt function of the steering wheel frequently comes unlocked causing the steering wheel to move up and down. this is particularly bad when driving at highway speeds or when reversing. there does not appear to be an easy way to tighten the tension on the adjustment lever.

The clutch ignition, power switch of my truck keeps stalls. the vehicle don't start, when the clutch pedal is pushed down. also the engine crank and start without the clutch pedal being pushed down causing the vehicle to unexpectedly lurch. i was notified by a dealer after inspection that said problem is a manufacturer problem, that was on recall. however said my vehicle vin# could not be located with the recall. i called the manufacturer on 1-800-992-1997, and was told i have to pay for the repairs. i will highly appreciate your immediate intervention.

While i was driving the abs bas esp stopped working and the lights came on. we were living in ft wayne indians at the time and without those features this jeep is flat out dangerous. i had the wheel speed sensor replaced twice but that wasn’t it. one dealer rebuilt all four of my brakes and purged the system. that didn’t work. i paid four different dealerships over 3800$ plus rent fees. it still is t fixed.

Due to a manufacturing error of a tire, i had a blowout on the interstate that ended up totaling my car. the tread completely split from the tire while driving at 70 mph. luckily, i was able to pull to the shoulder without any collisions or damage to myself or others. the blowout ripped off pieces of the front bumper, some siding of the car, and caused huge cosmetic damage in addition to wrecking the frame and causing some internal damage, including a leak of wiper fluid. my car was a 2006 jeep liberty (with 60,000 miles) and the tire was a goodyear wrangler st tire with dot # m671 eker. (there was no set of numbers following the eker as on most tires, just a blank space.)

On two different occasions while driving on the highway at 60 mph to 70 mph, the engine of the vehicle shut down completely, without warning, with the loss of all steering or control over the vehicle. on two other occasions, the engine shut down completely, without warning, with the loss of any steering or control over the vehicle, after exiting the highway and entering city traffic. that is a total of four engine shut downs or stalls while driving the vehicle. the dealer can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. we just bought the vehicle, and this is nerve-wrecking and dangerous to say the least. the engine shuts down after driving long distances, and has happened from driving distances of approximately 90 miles to 160 miles. if you wait approximately one hour, the vehicle will then start up again and run. but it will stall again with complete loss of power. others on the internet have also experience this problem with jeep 3.7 and 4.7 powertech jeep motors. our jeep is a 3.7 motor. this appears to be the same problem as jeep experienced with jeep commander and jeep grand cherokee models, which were recalled. this situation can obviously be life threatening. chrysler jeep should not be allowed to put life treating vehicles on the market and these jeeps must be recalled. we ask for your help in this matter before someone is seriously injured.

I have had a couple of pretty bad accidents to front end of my jeep liberty and the air bags never deployed. last accident was pretty bad. vehicle pulled out in from of me and i t-boned them, i tried to stop but didn't have enough time. every airbag in their vehicle deployed. i was driving down a state highway when vehicle pulled out in front of me.

Recall regarding front lower ball joint; 06v288000. while at firestone during a routine oil change and check up, i received notice of a recall on my car - i was i went to the nearby jeep dealership and they told me it was not applicable for my car even though i showed them the paperwork from firestone directly. jeep did not fix my lower ball joint and then approximately two weeks later, i was driving to school and my car jolted as if i hit a pot-hole but the road was clear. i turned on my hazard lights and pulled over to inspect. my tires were not low on air there was nothing abnormal under the hood. i parked my car and looked underneath to find a very obvious dislocation. i called a friend who could identify what part it was exactly and he said it was my lower ball joint. my car was a safety hazard and has become a huge hassle to deal with and jeep is refusing to take responsibility. it is being repaired in a shop now and i am seeking reimbursement from jeep.

As i was leaving the grocery store i heard a slam noise in the back passenger area of my jeep liberty. i pulled back into the parking and saw that my rear passenger window had fallen into the door. i went online to inquire about it and saw that this is a problem for the majority of 06 jeep liberty owners alike. i called chrysler jeep and because there's no recall on my vin i would have to pay for all repairs myself. it's too expensive and i'm not about to pay for another faulty part like everyone else did. my father paid to fix the rear driver's side window in march. the rear passenger side window fell in august 2015. this needs to be fixed by chrysler due to all of these consumer complaints!

I have owned my 2006 jeep liberty for 6 years, and not one time have i completely filled my fuel tank that it didn't gush fuel out everywhere, including on me !

I had to roll down the driver side window glass to pay parking fee and then the window never went up. had to drive in the highway when the window was down completely. i had to replace the window glass prior 4 times for their low quality lift plate on window glass and this time the dealer said it is not covered in 7 yrs extended warranty and asked to pay $500 to fix the regulator. the dealer fixed this lift plate issue prior under 7 yrs extended warranty with low quality material and so this issue reoccured but this time as they found warranty was expired they asked to pay $500 for regulator this time saying it is not under warranty or 7 yrs extended warranty expired. jeep needs to pay my $500 back for the regulator because i think they are ripping my money off because of their faulty design.

Recalls on this car were not taken care of before being sold to the current owner. information about such recalls were not disclosed before or during the time of sale. small issues arose during the first few months of ownership. recently ,in january 2016 bigger issues have come about and now the engine must be replaced. this has all happened while the vehicle has been in motion.

At 44,143 in dec 2009 i had 4 new tires and rear disc pads replaced. in july 2012, about mileage 54000, while driving in town, the left rear wheel speed sensor failed causing loss of abs, esp, and cruise control. i had dealer repair. at 67,642,in april 2016, i noticed the rear disc rotors were caked with a crusty rust and it appeared that the brake pads were worn out.. the rear brakes could not have been working. the dealer put on new rotors, calipers, pads, and flushed the system. the rusty rotors could not be turned to reuse, the calipers were both "stuck" and the brake fluid was "black". i also had the front rotors turned and new pads installed. the abs, esp, and cruise control still lights up on the dash for a minute then goes out by itself, leading me to totally distrust the system. i have never seen brake rotors so rusted in my 65 years.

H. this car has required engine oil to be added every 50 to 100 miles without any evident smell or sight of leaking oil, also torque converter needed replacement experienced deceleration of speed while driving at 50 mph.

2006 jeep liberty: fuel splashes back when filling gas tank at a gas station. this happens every time i fuel the tank. faulty fuel inlet check valve. other chrysler vehicles have this problem and have been recalled for repair. i spoke with a representative from chrysler, and they stated that chrysler has no plans of issuing a recall for this make, model, and year vehicle.

My 2006 jeep liberty will not start or crank. the computer does not show any codes. the battery had power, the relays are fine and the starter is fine. when you are in the jeep and try to start it, it does nothing. its like you forgot and left it out of park and tried to start it. the jeep does not click or even attempt to start. no one seems to know what's wrong with it. i love my jeep and it had been well taken care of. i have had numerous issues, and recalls. i still love my little liberty. if you could just help with a diagnosis, i would be forever grateful!

2006 jeep liberty clockspring malfunction. contact with dealership yielded info that no replacement part is available, yet the car is rendered unsafe without the replacement of malfunctioning part. owners have to decide whether to drive unsafely or park it until the part is available, which most people cannot afford to do. this is a widespread problem that chrysler is not addressing.

Went to start smoke came out from dash was parked in gargage truck is still in shop ins told me only reason they woul d cover is because is was a long coustomer thy only gave me 883 to repair there are at least 14 codes due to this don't know if they will reset if not i have to pay for repairs i do have fire protection on truck this is allstate i will send paper work if needed at a later date i have none also waiting for check told for me to pay repair shop

Parking break mounting plate attachments have sheared separating the the parking break assembly from the axel housing rendering the break useless on both sides of the vehicle. cause of failure unknown but the issue appears systematic with the vehicle and is not easily repaired.

The back right passenger window regulator broke and the window fell down into the door. it has been taped for a while because it is astronomically expensive to fix. i see many jeeps driving around all the time with tape on the windows because of this exact issue. after googling the issue it is well known in the jeep community.

When filling up the gas tank, the automatic shut off does not function, resulting in gas pouring out of the tank. this has happened consistently, no matter where or when i fill up.

Ignition, key fell out of ignition as i was driving down the road, i put key back in ignition and had no response to shutting vehicle off, key just went back & forth sloppy couldn't shut engine of! i actually had to take battery cables off to shut off engine? jeep ran and drove fine but had no ignition control on stopping or starting? cost me a new steering column to fix the problem! didn't even make 1 payment on truck when this happened.

Original owner drives 5000 miles per year, errands, stay-at-home mom, parked in garage during vehicles life. in dec 2014 took to dealer for tire rotation and balance. was told ball joints bad on both front wheels and upper control arms needed replaced @ 60,000 miles. when liberty was brand new took to dealer for recall f-22 and was there maybe 30 mins. was told good to go.... vehicle currently has 65,000 and have received second opinion from reputable mechanic who states the driver's side is worse than passengers and should be replaced, that this is either a "failed recall" or premature wear. with my mileage being so lite, this defect would have initiated long before it should have. the average miles a person drives is 12000-15000 a yr which would have put this defect occurring 3 yrs after initially recalled. the replacement parts are faulty themselves or jeep isn't being honest about the life cycle of this recall. i cannot believe a company would allow people to drive vehicles with gas tanks ready to explode and ball joints about to come unglued any moment....

The jeep was being driven by my granddaughter leaving her work at starbucks, when she tried to exit the parking lot the right front ball joint dropped out and the jeep set down on the a-frame and stopped. had this happened on the highway she could have been badly hurt or even killed. chrysler has a recall on this specific problem for the 06 jeep liberty but insist that a recall is issued by vin number, which does not make sense, the ball joint is a very bad design and the should recall all 2006 or later models with this condition.

The brake light switch on my vehicle regularly fails. my mechanic has done this replacement so many times i have lost count. his first try he used a less expensive brake light switch, but since the first time he has only used the manufacturer part. the last replacement lasted 6 weeks.

Originally purchased tow hitch and paid for installation at a car repair shop, then later had to stop by a jeep dealership to inspect it. the jeep dealership removed my hitch to install a new one but stole my old hitch that i already paid for. i could have returned the old hitch or used it for my other vehicle but instead they refused to give it back to me and wouldn't even give me back the small rubber tow hitch cover i had on it. so now i'm out the money i paid for the original hitch and now chrysler jeep gets away with stealing my aftermarket add-ons. this is criminal and i should be reimbursed for what they took from me. the dealership was rude to me and told me they had to destroy the tow hitch i brought in. overall, it was the worst service ever.

Manual transmission slams out of 1st gear into neutral when accelerating from a stop. this could cause a serious rear-end collision because the vehicle is suddenly out of gear at a critical point of acceleration. it is unpredictable and the only way to prevent it is to hold the stick shift securely while accelerating. it happens quite frequently.

The vehicle was in need of new brakes, rotors, parking brake shoes and hardware at 93000 miles. a grinding noise from the rear drivers side braking system was present when in motion and assumed to be warped rotors. when the rotors were removed it was found that the parking brake backing plate and the bolts that secure it have rusted to the extent that the plate is loose and no longer secured, which makes the parking brake defective and is a serious safety concern. this appears to be a very common problem and for a vehicle under 10 years old and 100000 miles to have parts rust so severely that they fail is an issue that chrysler should address, as it is obvious that this part was not made to last.

Today the jeep dealer said the frame rail was not good enough to install the hitch as called for in the recall. i called the chrysler complaint line and was told there is nothing chrysler can do. so now i must drive an unsafe vehicle, how can i sell it, or even trade it in. what am i supposed to do now? i read that vehicles less than 10 years old could be purchased back. these jeeps were recalled for rear suspension componets rusting up so now that the frames is rusting i have to drive a death trap. i am wondering how many times chrysler is using these excuses in order to not do anything. one could even think this recall was crafted in such a way that chrysler could get off using these excuses what are the people in my situation supposed to do????

[xxx]: complaint about jeep backing plates: 2006 jeep liberty vin # [xxx].i am writing about a safety problem we encountered over the past few weeks. on 2 separate occasions; 8-13 and 9-3-15 i almost drove off the road when suddenly my vehicle began to shake,loud, clamoring noise occurred, which made it imperative that i pull to the side of the road/await assistance. the problem was that the backing plates had corroded and rusted to such a severe degree the car was inoperable without expensive repairs (557.97 each time).the close timing of these incidents show that the lifespan of these parts were not made to last. jeep declined the request to reimburse expenses paid, and failed to address the bigger safety concern. i worry someone will not be as lucky when this problem occurs. it is a very dangerous situation when a vehicle <10 yrs old used solely as a passenger vehicle, is made of such poor quality parts that they literally rust off the vehicle while it is in transit. in doing research on the extent of these backing plate issues, i see that there have been a significant customer complaints from a quality, financial, and safety perspective, yet i see that nothing has been done to rectify this issue. it is my view that i should have been notified of this quality issue before i almost had accidents twice within a 3 week period. this make and model has been the subject of several consumer safety recalls, i am surprised that this has backing plate issue has not been brought to attention of owners so that it could be resolved in an expeditious manner at the cost of jeep corp. this is an issue that their company was aware of and parts should not ?rot? off quality vehicles. jeep responded on 9-29-15 and failed to mention the safety issue related to this problem. i attached their letter via attached file. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Abs system goes out which in turn makes the cruise control go out. then when you use the vehicle again the abs is on so is the cruise control but the brakes don't work well and grab. then when you are using the lights at night it dims for no reason inside and out. still waiting on the fix for the rear end fuel tank issue

Cannot fill gas tank without gas spewing out even if trying to fill it very slow. i'm only able get a few dollars in a time, but always end up taking a "gas bath." also when i purchased the jeep liberty in 2009 i cannot let the gas auto fill or it will "splash out" when it clicks off. i have to watch it fill and shut off at 16.5 gallons or less if completely empty or i'll have a mess on my hands.

On september 2, 2015 i brought my 2006 jeep liberty in to a dealership, benson chrysler, in greer sc for a rear structure reinforcement recall repair. after being left at the dealership for 4.5 hours, i was informed that the recall repair could not be completed due to a large amount of rust on the bolts. i was told by the manager, brad that more than one technician look at the car and determined it could not be repaired. i left the dealership in despair with major concern because the recall involves a chance of the jeep fuel tank leaking during a rear end collision which could result in a fire. now as a mother and wife i cannot imagine continuing to drive the vehicle knowing the at any given time i could lose my car and possibly the life of me and my family. please help me by addressing the issue of how chrysler plan to handle this recall. i strongly feel it should not be ignored by suggesting me to continue driving a vehicle that pose such a great danger . your attention is greatly appreciated. updated 11/02/15.*jb

From the time i received the recall notice i have been trying to resolve the issue. i called when first received the recall, then again in june and spoke to a jennifer, stated that the part was on back order and that i was in the 100 and they were on 30. i asked what i should do during the waiting time and she said to try not to get hit. i called again the beginning of september and jennifer stated that i should receive a part or call in a few days. it is now september 14 and i have not heard anything about fixing or setting up an appointment for fixing the jeep. i have three children that ride in my jeep, i do not have a choice but to drive it, all i can do is pray that i do not get hit from behind one day and cause the gas explosion that could occur do to manufacturing issues.

Abs, bas/esp, tcs indicator lights illuminate, vehicle loses power, brakes are applied ( most likely right front as car pulls to right) releasing throttle cancels the braking. as throttle is reapplied same action is repeated. so far it has only occurred at speeds< 35 mph. should it occur in slippery road conditions it most likely result in loss of control.in researching the problem on the internet, it seems to be or is becoming a more common occurence which fca is not addressing. if you read the other complaint of the same problem it dates back a few years, yet there doesn't seem to be anything done to correct it. some complainants say they have been unable to have it corrected even at jeep dealerships, others report it's something called the clock spring that is causing the problem and the parts to repair it aren't available. having just recently had fca's gas tank solution corrected, i hope a fix for this won't take as long. i neglected to say this was not a one-time event in as much as it happens now on an almost daily basis. a local shop checked for fault codes but there were none in memory; i have it scheduled for further tests 09/16/2015.

Fuel spillage every time fueling tank. takes ~ 15min to fill take. need to reduce fuel flow from pump down to a drizzle otherwise fuel spills all over car, ground and myself. very dangerous!

The pain on the outside roof is peeling, i do live in a state where the roads are salted however, there is no salt used on the top of the vehicle, this, while not a new vehicle should not be peeling the way it is. the front windshield had a severe chip & the installer was barely able to sand this area down enough to be able to seal the windshield. i have done some research & this is a very common problem along with the rear window regulators both of which have had to be replaced. there are problems with the emergency break & the jeep dealership gives one reason for the abs, esp among other wheel and breaking issues. and now the one thing that jeep is finally supposed to be doing something about rather than me having to put more money into this vehicle for, the gas tank recall seems to be a ridiculous fix, and i have been on a waiting list for this for months and still have not been able to get it in to get this fixed. i saw a news story that said that chrysler was being mandated to fix these very poorly made vehicles. i would like to know how this particular vehicle does not fall into the other recalls when it has been having the same issues. i have been having breaking system issues as long back as 13 months after i purchased this vehicle.

My car was parked in my driveway, not moved or in use and the back left windows mechanism fail to work window wouldn't go up or down window did not stay up while driving keep falling down. replaced the part. parked car in my garage started to use the car again after bringing it in to dealer for two recalls to be done spending over 500 dollars changing all the fluids buying a brad new battery drove car every day since august 21,2015 car has 358 miles at this date august 28 2015 the back right windows mechanism doesn't work just like the previeus time. car its like brand new and the two rear windows have stopped working. can you let me know if other people had this problem. thanks

While driver is parking car, the ignition released the key while the car was in gear, causing car to roll and crash into another vehicle.

After putting my front driver side window down completely, it will not go back up. the motor runs, it makes a sound, but window does not move. i was forced to leave my car parked in a medical center parking garage during my work shift 4:00pm to 12:00am. of course, it was completely unsafe for me, a young female, to return to my open car and had to be escorted by a security officer. i then drove the 25 freeway miles home completely exposed to the elements. having googled the malfunction, i learned that this is a very common issue with the 2006 jeep liberty and is very expensive to repair. i am astounded to also learn that chrysler did not issue a recall on this mechanical failure. as a college student, i am not financially able to incur this expense, nor do i think i should be required to, and am asking that chrysler perform repairs on all four windows at not cost to me. please advise. thank you for your consideration. *tr

My daughters front wheel broke loose from her car while turning into a parking lot. the right front wheel came off about 2 months prior to the left wheel coming off. both sides had broken lower ball joints. jeep dealership told me the car was not covered since there were no recalls for this vehicle. if this had happen going down the interstate or highway it would have been a disaster. the car had to be repair onsite, because both times the wrecker company said it may damage the finder if moved.

While driving the vehicle, i tried to operate front left and right rear windows and they would not roll up or down. i took it to the dealer where i purchased it and they repaired both. however, since then there have been 7 more instances on all windows not operating properly. currently, the back passenger window is not operating and the dealer refuses to repair it because the vehicle is not under warranty. this is a newly opened dodge, chrysler, jeep dealer in my town. this is just one of the many problems i have experienced with this jeep liberty, including the pcm is currently not functioning properly making the vehicle impossible to drive. at my wit's end with this vehicle.

Over the course of the nine years i have owned this liberty, each of the 4 power windows have failed multiple times.the windows simply fall down freely without warning, and can not be placed back in an upright, closed position. this has occurred twice on each front window, and on each the left/rear and right rear windows it has happened three separate times. though this is an ongoing and known safety and security issue, there has been no service bulletin or recall as far as i know. chrysler/jeep customer service and local dealer are unwilling to recognize the problem or cover the repairs. jeep quotes us over $600 for the repair before reducing the estimates, due only to my persistent complaints. i understand there has been a class action suit brought by others on this very issue.

My blower motor resistor is partially inoperative. there was a issue with the blower motor that was a recall item and it was addressed in this car by previous owner but i believe the blower motor should have been replaced also

Every time i fill up the gas tank it overflows. i have spoken to other people who have the same car and they said they have same problem and in one case the person told me that jeep repaired it as part of recall, but i do not see it as a recall specifically, and when i called chrysler about it they said it is not a recall item for the car. this is a liberty submodel

The lower ball joint broke causing the frame and wheel to separate. the frame fell onto the tire. the rim was sliced completely in half. and the brand new tire was busted. it caused us to loose control of the vehicle. the vehicle feared of the road and landed ina ditch. we had to have a tow truck pick up the vehicle. it cost us 300 dollars to have the vehicle brought home. after getting home we found out the piece that broke, the lower ball joint, was part of the jeep recall in 2006. i called chrysler and they did admit that part was a recall fix in 2006. we are now waiting on chrysler to call us back to let us know what we are suppose to do next. we are without a vehicle.

While driving there is a rambling sound coming from the front of my front of my vehicle, when i press on the breaks there is a grinding noise, i have taken my vehicle to southern chrysler jeep of greenbrier located in chesapeake, va and they advise the unit need front upper control arms and lower ball joints. according to contacting chrysler the manufacture i was advise the part was inital change in 2007 and the current part (lower ball joints) is currently on back order. according to the dealer/service facility they stated there is approximate 500 lower ball joints on back order, i have contacted chrysler via web chat and they confirm part is not available. i have express my fear of driving the vehicle due to issue and ask to be compensate for a car rental in which i was decline. i am complaining due to part stock availability is un-acceptable and i fear of driving this unsafe vehicle

I was driving down the street when the diesel jeep stalled. luckily i was able to get to the side of the street. i checked and there was air in the diesel fuel line. when i used the pump to prime it fuel started leaking around the heating element electrical fitting. when i pulled the fitting you could see charring around the end. the vehicle now gets air in the lines and stalls all the time. i have pulled the electrical connection because i am afraid of fire. *tr

Parked vehicle after driving 20 min. going about 70mph. after turning the car off, the car started steaming. i popped the hood to find coolant and water overflowing from the coolant reservoir. i got the car towed to the local mechanic who after doing extensive diagnostics to find the leak within the system. took the manifold off the engine and realized it was caused by bad/ cracked heads on the engine connecting to manifold. a lot of this type of engine has this problem, seen by the local auto mechanic in vail valley, colorado where jeeps are common. this is a manufacturer problem.

After a service at ferman chrysler in new port richey, florida ...my anti lock brake system lights came on and when i was traveling in a congested area the vehicle just started coming to an extreme stop without my control or even applying the brakes.

This has been happening since the jeep was brand new. there is no auto-stop when filling the jeep. up to a gallon, or more, will spill out if you cannot stop it in time. this causes fuel to get all over the vehicle and the person pumping the fuel. we have talked with the dealer about this problem repeatedly (in two states - new jersey and maine) and it seems there is nothing they can (or will) do. we cannot be the only one with this issue.

Esp/bas, abs and skidding vehicle icon lights came on in the instrument cluster! the cruise control stopped working. this is the same issue we had on our 2007 jeep wrangler, which i filed a complaint with the nhtsa, which issued a recall on our jeep. the clock spring module, located under the steering wheel, controls, the abs, esp/bas, cruise control, horn, and air bag! this is a safety issue and should be recalled, like my 2007 jeep wrangler was!

Passenger door window fell down. linkage/regulator had to be replaced. this has happened to the windows, on all 4 doors, 3-4 times each. this just happened again to the rear drivers side window on 5-10-15.

I bought this used vehicle 2 years ago. it currently has a recall on the gas tank. the way the dealership "fixes" this recall is to install a trailer hitch, which is laughable, at best. the testing agencies have proven that a trailer hitch is only minimally effect up to 25 mph and not effective at greater speeds. i requested the dealership "work with me" so that i could buy a safer vehicle from them. they are only willing to offer me the same trade-in amount as if i were trading vehicle solely because i want a new vehicle. i would keep this vehicle, if it were safe. i've contacted metal manufacturing businesses and requested that they build me a safe, strong gas tank and bumper to replace that which is currently in the vehicle. i am willing to pay the price to make this vehicle safe. the manufacturing facilities have refused to build any parts for me because the liability, after an accident, would revert to them rather than the burden being on jeep. i have told the dealership that i have a safety problem but they don't seem to think i should get any financial consideration when trading in an unsafe vehicle that can not be made safe either by me or by jeep. they will only offer me less than kelly blue book for trade in and have taken $1,000.00 of the retail price of the new vehicle. this is inadequate considering they sold me an unsafe vehicle which can not be fixed. the dealership is darlings; po box 277; brewer, maine 04412-0277. phone: 207-669-6570.

Unable to close rear lift gate. vehicle was not using anti-lock brakes. vehicle was not using cruise control. was able to have a 'work around' by using the key fob to release the gate latch in order to close the window. as of saturday may 9,2015, that work around has failed. key fob is still able to lock/unlock doors and set alarm. noticed no superficial water damage /leaks around weather strip. read and noticed several complaints about the rear window latch not closing properly if at all. this is a driving hazard that will surely cause drivers to have infractions and/or accidents. please advise.

In nov 2014 as i was delivering mail in my rhd jeep liberty 06, my heat was on and my blower fan "blew up", blowing black smoke into the jeep from the vents and a burning smell came from the dash board. i took the jeep to my local garage in which time they tore the dash apart and found it had in fact "blew up". it now only runs on one speed (high). during the next few months (winter) every time i run my heater with the fan or the defrost my dash board goes haywire. meaning gauges shut down, all alert lights go on and/or flash and all beeps, buzzers and noises sound. it continues until i turn the heat/defrost off. i took it back to the garage on numerous occasions in which they ran the scanner with 7 codes coming up. after a few hours of sitting it would just reset itself and codes would disappear. everytime it rains now the dash board does the same thing. i have had 2 garages and several different mechanics look at it and can't figure out the problem. on april 25 i called chrysler to get my jeep in for the n46 recall and asked about the electrical issue and explained the situation. i told her it was a known problem in the jeep libertys. her response to me was "in the last 25 yrs i've worked here, i have never heard of this problem." so i said i'd like it looked at while its there for the recall issue. her response again was " you need to take it back to the garage that looked at it the first time, and you do know that we automatically charge $98 an hour for diagnostic checks." i was looking over my paper sent in the mail to me about the n46 recall today and found at the bottom of the paper it reads............"ask your dealer about the following notification. our records indicate that your vehicle also requires repair for notification g03" i google searched jeep liberty 06 recall g03 and found.........this is a blower fan issue. and chrysler won't even look at it. *tr

My windows fall down due to a faulty window regulator. each window has fallen at least once. my back passenger jeep window has been fixed twice and fell again last year. originally i was told my windows were fixed via a recall, but when i called last year and again today in reference to my window falling for a third time, i was told the issue was fixed via an extended warranty, which has since expired. i called the chrysler/jeep complaint line today and was told that even though this will be the seventh total time a window on my car will have to be fixed due to the faulty window regulator, i will have to pay to fix the problem out of my own pocket. i understand how an extended warranty works; however, i should not be responsible for fixing something that has already been fixed twice on one window. not only is this a safety hazard while driving. every day i fear someone will gain access to my car and either steal it, or wait until i get in the car and kidnap me or worse. i love my jeep; however, i will not remain a jeep owner for much longer. thousands of people continuously have this issue. just because someone hasn't died from it yet doesn't mean a recall shouldn't be placed on the car. *tr

I am the original owner of this jeep liberty first of all and i love it, but it is dangerous! i can't fill the gas tank on my jeep liberty with out it spewing back out. the first time it happened gas was all on the ground at the gas station. it got all over my hands and paints leg and burned my skin. i was out of town and didn't have an extra pair of pants to change into. all i could do is pull off at the next exit and try to clean my skin in the restroom. now i have to hold my ear down to the gas nozzle to hear the tank filling up. my husband can't hear well so i can't let him fuel the liberty. out of fear of gas getting on others and on the ground, i am the only one that fuels the tank. chrysler will not replace the gas tank because it shows no problem under my vin number. this is a public and environmental safety problem with gasoline on people and all over the ground! i need this tank replaced, just thunk about it....1/2 gallon of gasoline on the ground for every other jeep liberty like mine out there. i talked with jeep customer service again today and was still denied. *tr

The sunroof drains into the passenger compartment and on to the fuse panel and freezes. i have to replace at $822.00. a service bulletin was issued in 2006 addressing this issue the drain issue was repaired by dealer during warranty in 2007. a frozen fuse panel can cause an electrical fire inside the car. *tr

3 times while driving on the saw mill parkway this morning in stop and go traffic, while coming to a stop the vehicle started to accelerate out of control. the brakes could not control it. the first time i put it in neutral and the engine reverted to idle speed and i was able to continue normally. a few miles later it did it again as i was coming to a stop in heavy traffic. this time when i put it in neutral the engine raced at full speed as if it was being floored. i had to turn off the key. when i restarted the engine it ran fine for a few miles until i was exiting the highway. again when i slowed to a stop the engine raced at full revs. going into neutral did not help. turning off the key fixed it. at the end of the day after work the vehicle behaved normally. this jeep has done this 3 times in the past, in january 2009, feb 2012 and october 2014. *tr

My air bag light indicator activated, and at the same time my horn stopped working! after having it checked out by a repair shop, it was determined that a faulty clock spring assembly is the cause of the problem. this assembly has been responsible for the malfunction of air bags in other 2006 jeep liberty's; however, recalls of this problem apply to other vin numbers (beginning with the letter k). i have been told by a jeep dealership that the cost of repairs will exceed $400.00, and that my vehicle is currently not on the recall list. how is it possible that clock spring assembly's are that much different amongst the different vin numbers? i am highly suspicious, and in the meantime i have been told that in addition to having no horn that my air bags would not employ in the event there was an accident. does someone have to be killed in a vehicle for another vin number to be checked out on the current listing? *js

When pushed to speed up at a fast rate and upon approaching 65mph or faster the service engine light flashes slowly. my mechanic found the code reader saying a misfire was happening. when that light flashes it starts to shake pretty bad. determined that cylinder 1 has low compression. only way to find out for sure what to do next is to tear down the motor which i do not have the money for that. sad how waistful people are forced to be with vehicles. its still pretty new!! we took good care of this jeep maintaining it correctly since we got it with only 37k miles and has not had any problems till now. so this was a shock! before 37k miles i am not aware of this particular jeep's engine repair history. also this same jeep had the clogged fuel line causing the tank to spill out while fueling up when it was not full yet. *tr

We are the original owners of the jeep liberty 2006 that had a recall on the ball joints and stabilizer bars in 2006. of course, we had the vehicle repaired when the jeep was only a few months old. it may have had less than 1000 miles on it at the time. when visiting the dealer on dec 2, 2014 for an oil change and tire balance. i was informed that the ball joints on driver's and passenger's side of jeep were in need of replacement at a cost of 1100.00 (we only have 61,600 miles on jeep) i was shocked that a vehicle that has been garage kept and only driven by the mom of the family around town of about 6000 miles a year could incur such a drastic problem. this is a valid safety issue with the integrity of the recall. the repair should have a lifetime warranty or at least 100k miles. there is absolutely no way, these ball joints disintegrated without being faulty from the being. my question lies if my vehicle was really taken care of, or was it just looked at because it was brand new at the time. our liberty has had full synthetic oil changes and treated with the utmost care. so it really saddens me that chrysler has such "safety" issues. of all things that can go wrong with a car, when it refers to a previous recall, it's obvious the issue was never really addressed. *js

The lower control arm and ball joint failed per f 23 recall of jeep chrysler and damaged the tire and rim which had to be replaced. we filed a claim with chrysler customer assistance on aug 20, 2014 and they were processing it and told us they would reimburse the $1146.83 not later than oct 20, 2014. we had not heard anything from ccassistance so we telephoned today. brad, the agent, could not find any record and also said that the recall was completed and that there would not be any reimbursement to us for the repairs we had to make. that is not in accord with the recall and furthermore, the lower control arm and ball joints failed again on august 18, 2014 and the safford chrysler jeep dodge of springfield virginia replaced the control arms and ball joints on both the left and right side under a f23 recall warranty at no charge to us. we request that nhtsa contact chrysler and require them to reimburse us for the $1146.83 which we paid out of pocket. *tr

When filling the vehicle, fuel comes splashing out of the filler neck all over the side of the vehicle and possibly anyone standing too close. i feel this is a huge safety issue as the amount of fuel and vapors splashed out is a big fire risk. does someone need to be badly burnt or killed before this gets fixed? *tr

It has been brought to the attention of the nhtsa that there is an issue with jeep vehicles that when fueling up the gas tank a geyser of gasoline will erupt from the tank upon "completion" of filling the tank. covering the car, the individual filling the tank, the ground, and anyone else within a certain vicinity in gasoline, a highly flammable liquid. chrysler has a history of this issue with their vehicles. in 2009, 45,000 cars were recalled for it. currently, chrysler has agreed to "initiate a lifetime warranty program" to address this very issue in 135,000 jeeps manufactured in 2007 and 2008. leaving all other jeep owners with this issue to continue risking their lives and the lives of others by getting continually doused in gasoline. recently, chrysler issued a recall for 430,000 jeeps because of a weakness in the gas tank that can burst into flame in the event of a rear end collision. so they know their gas tanks are weak! this latest recall admits to it. so why the discrimination against the rest of us jeep owners with faulty inlet check valves? where is justice, and concern for our safety? *tr

I have two (2) jeep liberty's both 2006 (1) renegade, & (1) sport, both vehicles have had the window regulator's fail, (2) - window regulator's failed on the renegade, (1) on the driver's front side window, the regulator had to be replaced on 02/12/11 & again (1) on the driver's rear window, the regulator had to be replaced on 05/18/12 this was on the 2006 jeep renegade. (2) - window regulator's failed, on the jeep sport, (1) on the driver's rear window, the window regulator had to be replaced on 09/19/11 & (1) window regulator again on the same window on 10/08/14 needs to be replaced, the same window regulator needed to be fixed twice within three years & 20 days, the dealer would not fix the window under warranty because it was over the exp. date by 20 days, why is it always the window regulators because it's a plastic part and that's why it keeps failing, that's just bull i have spent over 1200.00 dollars on repairs on windows regulator's alone & it's the same part each time all 4-windows, i used to be a great fan of jeep, i've owned jeeps for (20) years now, but i have become really disappointed with my vehicle's, the first time it happened i was on the highway driving at 65 mph when the window suddenly opened, the wind ripped through my vehicle started to blow things around so bad that i had to pull over and tape my window up so i could make it home, and i'm not the only one, alot of jeep liberty owners have had the same thing happen to them and had to replace the window regulators, thank you *tr

I purchased what appeared to be a well maintained 2006 jeep from a local reputable dealer at a cost over of 10 grand on 10/3/14. the first tank fill up the gas overflowed out of the tank. there was no "stop" the gas just came out. i asked the cashier if there was a problem with the gas pump and they said they didn't know. so, the next gas fill up a week later, the gas shot out of the tank this time. still no warning to stop filling the tank with a gas "stop". i contacted the dealer, who could not find anything mechanically wrong with the tank, and had to pay for and send the car to a local jeep dealer for repair. to make a long story short, they replaced the gas tank. albeit i received the car back with less gas than i had left it with. took the car home, filed the car on friday 11/7/14 and the gas mechanism did stop the gas, but only after gas leaked out from the gas tank again, and they never even tested the car to make sure it didn't happen again! as i found out later, they replaced the tank with a used tank. i am incredulous about this issue. my dealer is going to take care of this issue, i hope. and if it is not fixable, i will never buy another jeep or chrysler product! from what i am reading on the web no one is listening to us jeep owners. thankfully i have a small warranty period that covers this issue, but i implore you to reopen this issue. i can attest this is not internet hype. i have worked hard for most of my life and feel as a consumer i am being taken advantage of. to make such a substantial purchase to only find out that thousands of others are being ignored with the same issue is beyond me. please fix what is already broken. *tr

2006 jeep liberty's gas tank overflow malfunction. every time i fill the liberty's gas tank it has overflowed. this has been happening ever since the first time i gassed it up after purchasing it in 2006. i have reported it several times to my local jeep dealership it was even reported to the dealership when i went in to get my free oil change (at 3000 miles) for the purchase of the vehicle, but they have constantly passed the blame down on me for not properly filling the gas tank. because i am either a. at fault because i am toping off the tank or b. i am at fault for apparently using the same gas pump all the time. but it doesn't matter who's filling the tank, nor does it matter which gas station i go to gas ends up getting on me, the side of the jeep, and on the ground which is hazardous all the way around. i understand that the tank is under recall to have a hitch installed, to protect it from rear end collisions but i have no interest, in participating in the recall until the overflow problem is resolved. *tr

I was in stop-and-go commute traffic traveling approximately 15 mph. traffic started moving a little faster when the car in front of me brake hard, i pressed hard on the brake pedal and my jeep lurched forward before braking hitting the car in front of me. the road was dry and there were no skid marks.the way the jeep lurched forward it felt like the brake pads were worn out or the rotors were warped or the shocks were faulty. we had bought the jeep liberty new less than one year earlier. i was able to drive the jeep home. that was a friday and by monday my stomach became so distended i could barely move. i had been in contact with kaiser advice nurses throughout the weekend and that monday i was hospitalized. 2 weeks in the hospital resulted in the first of 3 surgeries that changed my life and my families life permanently. surgery 1 was an illeostomy in july 2007, surgery 2 was j-pouch surgery in december 2007. surgery 3 was abdominal reconstruction surgery in september 2013. i have permanent nerve damage in my stomach, painful scar tissues throughout my upper torso, a degenerating disc in my lower back and ongoing abdominal and hip pain. the physical and emotional toll this has had on my family is tremendous. my 2006 jeep liberty has been determined to be a lemon by the state of california. *tr

When driving i would stop somewhere get back in to the jeep go to turn the jeep on and nothing would happen. it wouldn't turn over. mechanic said to pump the gas. sometimes it would start sometimes it wouldn't. key would get stuck in the ignition and you had a hard time pulling it out. took it in to the mechanic for a day and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, no codes. drive again jeep would do the same thing. then when far from home got into jeep to go home and it wouldn't turn over, wouldn't start, couldn't jump it, but the battery and all electrical worked. had to have it towed to the mechanic. after 2 days they found it to be a broken pin inside the ignition. a plastic piece wrapped around a metal piece broke. $800 later after towing,parts and labor. this is a manufacture defect or just plain cheap parts. liberty's should be recalled too. *tr

Whenever i fill up the gas tank with gas the filler tube over flows with gas and does not allow the fuel pump to cut off automatically. this has happened since the vehicle was new. gas gushes out of the filler tube and down the side of the vehicle and creates a large pool of gasoline on the ground. this action can be easily repeated. one must stop the fuel pump before the tank is full and not allow the pump to cut off automatically. *tr

The lift plates on all side windows of jeep liberty vehicles can be defective. the window will unexpectedly completely drop down. chrysler corporation accepts the fact there are window defective lift plates. they extended the vehicle warranty to replace the lift plate parts if they fail. to my knowledge chrysler corporation did not notify owners about the defective parts or the extended warranty. i found this information out when the vehicle was taken in for window repair at the jeep chrysler dealership (the faricy boys chrysler, jeep) on september 18, 2013. chrysler knew all the side window parts were defective, but would only replace the window lift plates that were not working on that day. another side window lift plate on the same vehicle failed on may 30, 2013. when driving the vehicle and a window completely drops down it can startle the driver and is a distraction that could cause an accident. the vehicle was again taken in for repair at the jeep chrysler dealership. the dealership said the extended warranty had expired and the cost of repair needed to be paid by the owner. in summary, chrysler corporation knew the side window lift plates are defective, but would not replace all the defective parts. i am asking the nhtsa to order a mandatory recall and require chrysler to fix all window lift plates on the jeep liberties. a defective lift plate can cause the window to unexpectedly drop down and can present driver confusion and a distraction while driving. this can present a dangerous situation to the health and life of americans. thank you. *tr

Whenever the steering wheel moves between the 1 and 2' o clock direction the esp/bas light comes on and cannot be turned off without shutting off the engine. it has happened while parked and in motion at low speeds. i took it into my local dealer for a diagnostic and it was reported to be a faulty steering sensor/clockspring. which controls the esp/bas program as well as the deployment of the airbag should there be an impact. i took my jeep in early february and the part was placed on back order because there was none available in the nationwide inventory was expected at the earliest, mid-may. the recommendation is not to drive the vehicle. i followed up in early may and that date was shifted to august. i followed up in this past week and the date has been shifted yet again to mid-september. going on 7 plus months without my vehicle due to one part that is a safety issue and seemingly a common one looking at the other complaints filed on this site is ridiculous. i have tried getting this part through other after market places online and it can only come through jeep/mopar part authorized supplier. this needs to be looked at or recall needs to be issued to escalated to give this problem more visibility in orde for it to be corrected. *tr

Transmission broke! every owner of a 2005 or 2006 jeep liberty diesel that i have spoken with,has had to rebuild or replace their transmission.the manufacture had a recall to tune down engine to help prevent problem,i had this done,but this is only a temp fix,(a band-aid). the real problem is a weak link in the tranny,(the torque converter). when the torque converter fails it destroys the transmission.. which is what just happened to me. my jeep is 8 years old, but i only had 68,000 miles on it. the reason i purchased this vehicle was for the long service life of the 2.8l diesel (300,000 plus miles before rebuild). i live in a somewhat rural area and i have spoke with over 12 people who has experienced this same problem with there 2.8l diesel transmission #545rfe. i know this is a nationwide problem,i have gone online and spoken with alot of liberty owners and all have had transmission problems,i have also spoke with many former liberty owners who said they would never drive another jeep, because lack of dealer concerns over transmission problems..they had! i am correcting the problem by replacing the damaged stock transmission,with a highly recommended aftermarket one made for the torque of a diesel engine.. i feel consumers should not half to endure that large out of pocket expense,to repair a manufacturer problem! thank-you *tr

I received a recall letter in 2013 recall number n46 and nhtsa campaign number 13v-252. i have not received further notification to take my jeep in to be repaired. i called my local dealer who said they have not received any information or parts to repair our jeeps. this is a safety issue....why has it taken a year to get the parts to the dealers to fix our jeeps? when filling the vehicle with gas, the pump's handle will suddenly and forcibly stop (as though the tank were full) and gasoline will spit out of the fuel opening, despite the fact it is gallons away from being filled to full capacity. this happens with every different gas station's pump handles, so to be clear, it is not an issue with the pump or handle, or the individual's ability to pump gas correctly; it is an issue with the gas line of this vehicle and the indicator or regulator or whatever part is defective. *tr

For the last 2 years the gas tank belches fuel every time if the tank is filled up. i never top off the tank but by the time the automatic release on the fuel pump shuts off about 1/2 second later several ounces of fuel pour out of the gas tank and down the side of the jeep and onto the ground. it seems like a major safety issue and there are hundreds of complaints online. is there a recall or investigation for this problem? *js

Car starts accepting gas then you can hear it gurgle back up while it shuts off the pump. it doesn't matter how far in or out the hose nozzle is either. it is taking forever to get gas into my car most of it ends up spilling out over the top of the gas door. this is utterly ridiculous and from the web i see i am not the first person dealing with this issues and of course paying for this problem out of my own pocket. *tr

The nhtsa safety recall of my jeep liberty to repair a deadly defect with the placement of the fuel tank has not yet been repaired by chrysler. they informed me of the recall in december, 2013, but the dealer (jim riehl's friendly chrysler jeep in warren, mi) told me they didn't have the part yet. when i called that same establishment on march 3, 2014 to schedule the important safety repair, i was given the same response - they didn't have the part in stock yet. today i just received a mailing from jim riehl's friendly jeep in warren mi which states:"recall notice. as of december 12, 2013, this vehicle has the following incomplete recalls/customer satisfaction notices: n46 (n46 / nhtsa 13v-252) please contact us to schedule an appointment. recall/customer satisfaction notice repairs will be performed free." when i called russ in service at that same friendly jeep today, may 28, 2014 - - part not yet in stock. the statement about the recall repair is fraudulent - the mailing contained two coupons for vehicle maintenance. when will you stop this farce and force chrysler to stop endangering their customers and repair their deadly defect? *tr

My daughter was driving and a truck in front of her stopped quickly causing my daughter to slam on brakes to avoid a collision but ended up rear ending the truck. her airbag deployed and her jeep had to be towed from the site. it has been in the shop since 4/28/14 and was repaired except for the clock spring which is necessary for the new airbag. we have been told that this part is no longer produced or manufactured by any vendor in the country. therefore, our jeep cannot be released to us which has caused a hardship on our family as well as a hardship for the shop manager as he cannot be paid until the car is released. because of this i believe that anyone driving a 2006 jeep liberty in the country is possibly at risk due to this device not being readily available in the proper supply channels. *tr

Key will not release from ignition on steering column due to restricted (degraded range of motion from a subassembly with weakened spring) movement of automatic transmission shifter interlock cable. vehicle can not be put in park (shifter freely moves through p r n d 3 2) and key will not make the last little turn before release. seems to be an extremely common occurrence among owners, based on cursory online research. requires replacement of entire center console shifter assembly with an "upgraded/improved" mopar part to fix the known high failure subassembly (but not available for purchase separately). inability to place vehicle securely in park would seem to be biggest safety issue, not to mention vehicle security compromised with key perpetually in ignition. *js ..updated 02-10-15 *bf updated 8/28/2017*cn

As i had just exited the florida's turnpike north bound at kendall drive in miami and attempted to enter the town and country mall at about 20 mph, the front passenger side ball joint of my 2006 crd 4x4 jeep liberty came apart causing the vehicle to lock the front wheel as the steering arm with part of the ball joint enter and landed inside the rim and the tire, perforating it and preventing the tire from turning causing the jeep to almost buck like a horse sending us head first towards the windshield. thankfully, it did not happen 45 seconds earlier when my family and i were on the express way driving 65 mph...it would have been catastrophic! this equipment/part failure is known as recall f-23 by chrysler/jeep and they are well aware of it!! i was never aware of such recall !! chrysler/jeep, after one month at their dealer continue to refuse to fix the collateral damage on the vehicle (rim, etc) created by their defective part!! using as an excuse that the factory warranty is over when it has nothing to do with that. chrysler sent an "independent" inspector to view the vehicle. this "independent" inspector's bill is paid by chrysler. this equipment failure is extremely dangerous!! and could be fatal!!! please help!! at this time i only want my jeep fixed properly, and that chrysler honors the traditional jeep quality and commitment to their customers!! a letter has been sent to chrysler claims after multiple attempts to solve this problem in person and via telephone. no results!! updated 06/04/14

Had recall notice for installing a trailer hitch. took to midway jeep in kearney ne. on february 3 2014 and they told me that they had to order a hitch. as of today may 5,2014, i still don't have a hitch installed.

I filled up at 2 different gas stations about 300 miles apart and the same problem occurred. i set the automatic stop and the pump automatically shuts off. i go to remove the handle about 2-3 seconds later and gas comes spewing out all over the side of the jeep and onto the ground. there seems to be a reoccurring problem with thousands of liberty owners. many people i have talked to tell me that there is no permanent fix for this and i have to live with it. i have owned about 10 different vehicles in my time and not a single one of them ever had this problem. i will not stand for the "there is no permanent fix" bs anymore. this is a design flaw by chrysler inc and needs to be addressed as the owners are at risk of injury and the gas stations are at risk of fire and the general public are at risk as well. something needs to be done by chrysler, if not i will report them to the better business bureau. *tr

I have a faulty window regulator in my back right window. i have had each window fixed at least once due to a faulty window regulator. i have one window fixed twice. this issue was previously covered under an extended warranty; however, the latest issue occurred after the extended warrant expired. currently the back right window won't stay up. i've pushed it up on a weekly basis and it slowly falls. i'm concerned that pretty soon i'll have to keep the window up using tape or other measures. it's not safe to drive with the window constantly falling, especially if and when i have children in the back seat of my car. *js

This started aprox 3 years ago. when filling the gas tank to full, the pump would kick off and then gas would always spit back and overflow on to the ground (scary) to avoid this, i stopped filling the tank to full and only to 3/4 full and the problem stopped. but now, i can't add fuel without gas shooting back all over the place even when the tank has low fuel. the only way fuel can be added without getting drenched in gas, is to find a pump that you can feather the on/off handle to run slow enough so it's barely adding fuel, then it will not back up. it takes at least 20 minutes at the pump to add 10 gallons of gas. unfortunately i gave this vehicle to my 20 year old daughter and she is scared to add fuel so i have to do it. also, i've had to replace the clock spring and the "gas cap" light never shuts off. i took it to the dealer for clock spring issues and the part was not available so she drove it for months with the warning lights on and the part is still not available but the lights have now shut off.... the gas cap warning could not be fixed by the dealer so that stays on all the time. but this fueling problem is a serious issue. *tr

On the first incident the rear passenger window fell, so it was replaced. then on 09/10/10 both front window regulators started to go out and one was completely out so i had both regulators replaced. then on 08/29/11 the rear driver window regulator went out and the regulator was replaced. then 01/20/14 the rear passenger window regulator went out again. *tr

My original intent was to file a complaint about a gas overflow issue, but after seeing all the other liberty complaints, i have included other issues i have: 1. for at least two years, when pumping gas, the gas has continued to flow even after the automatic flow has shut off. i now stand at the pump and when i think it is getting full, i start pumping by hand to avoid the overflow. after checking on the internet, this is an issue other liberty owners experience. i did receive the initial recall notice for 13v-252, but nothing since to say the part is in. since the gas overflow is experienced by many owners, is this part of the recall? 2. check engine light is always on. it has been re-set many times; is ok for a day or two and then re-appears. per owner's manual, this is not an issue unless the light is flashing, which it is not, but why does this continue to occur? 3. both back electric windows have fallen down without warning. both are now secured in place with tape, as it would be too expensive to repair. 4. the back left door will not open from the inside. *tr

Dashboard lights for electronic stability control, and traction control come on and stayed lit until after turning the motor off. the systems don't seem to function when the lights are on. this occurs several times a month with no apparent reason, ie: not slippery conditions, weather is variable. i noticed another driver said it happens when their lights are on. i always drive with my lights on, so i don't know if that is a factor. *tr

We purchased a used 2006 jeep liberty last year. last night we went to drive it up the road and the right front passenger side tire disengaged from the steering knuckle and the ball joint disconnected. luckily enough we weren't driving very fast otherwise it could have caused injury considering the tire is now almost at a 90 degree angle and we can't move the car. i understand the statute of limitations is 8 years after the original purchase date, i would like to know if i can get a manufacturer repair done free of charge, and would rather have it done at a dealer knowing they would have the correct parts. normally my 1 year old is in the car, luckily he wasn't last night, but would like to know if i am entitled to repairs. *tr

The key cannot be removed from the ignition switch. tried restarting and shutting off vehicle, made sure it was completely in park and even wiggled the key back and forth. the key has been stuck in the ignition ever since. nothing else is affected by this just cannot remove the key. *tr

I was sitting in a parking lot and my back passenger side window fell down. i didn't hit any of the buttons, it just fell. i took it to get looked at and they told me that the window regulator went bad again. this has happened multiple times and i believe it is crazy that this part isn't apart of the recall. the place didn't have any in stock (seems to be a problem probably because it has happened so many times to countless customers), so basically i was charged 110$ for them to look at and tell me what is wrong while me knowing it was either that or the lift plate. don't think i have been more frustrated in my life. *tr

The vehicle shift assembly for these model of jeeps fails to operate correctly. the cable will not set in the proper position when shifted back into park, disabling the owner's ability to remove their key from the ignition. the only solution is to remove the cover covering the shift assembly and forcefully push the cable into place to release the key. in addition to this, the shift handle can be bumped and shifted into gears, or into reverse or park, without the brake being pushed as would normally operate the assembly. this causes the risk of accidentally bumping the vehicle into a gear that could cause an accident and risk the driver's life. *tr
