These cars has bad headlight problems also which cost me a lot of money to get fixed. I think it should have been a recall on the headlights on these cars its been so many people having problems with this issue on these cars.

Airbag light came on after key was repaired under a recall. Dealer wants to charge $400 to fix. according to other complaints online there is an internal communication problem causing this to happen.

THERE IS A LOUD TAPPING NOISE WHEN YOU TURN THE A/C TEMP KNOB OR TRY AND CHANGE THE AIR FLOW. THE NOISE SOUNDS LIKE IT COMES FROM THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AREA. THE NOISE STARTED WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR ON MARCH 16,2010 BUT IT ONLY SOUND WHEN WE WOULD CHANGE THE AIR FLOW BUTTON. BUT TODAY ON SEPTEMBER 8,2011 IT STARTED TO MAKE A FASTER LOUDER TAPPING IN THE SAME PLACE BUT THIS TIME IN ADDITION TO THE AIR FLOW BOTTON NOW ITS TRIGGERED BY THE A/C TEMPETURE KNOB. THE NOISE IS EMBARRISING AS WE AS ANNOYING!

Drivers Sun Visor keeps falling down blocking view of traffic lights in towns and cities which could cause accidents.

power steering failed 1/24/08 entering the s. state pkwy. in ny. and again on 2/27/o8 getting on the entrance ramp to the Verrezzano bridge. Each time I had to be towed to a dealer; the second time I had to go to a 2nd dealer in order to get same day service. The first time I was towed to Bast Chevrolet in Seaford ny (I lease from them) they stated that the problem was the return hose on the power steering pump and that they replaced it and everything was ok. The second repair was made at 86th st Cvrolet in Brooklyn ny. They stated it was the same problem; when I told them that this hose was replaced a month ago, I was told it was the original hose and that only the clamp was replaced. When I called Bast to tell them I had almost been killed again due to the power steering failure and wanted to know what work was performed they said that the hose was replaced, as it says on my repair invoice. When I told him that another Chevy dealer said that only the clamp was changed, he told me they had received a bulletin about the power steering and now said that only the clamp was changed; I guess GM will be billed for the hose even though it wasn’t replaced. I have seen on the internet that I am not the only one having problems with this car and was not surprised to see Consumer Reports latest car issue list it as a used car to avoid.

Our 2006 Impala LTZ has made a loud high pitch constant buzzing noise that comes mainly from the drivers side front speaker and last an average of 23 minutes. Engaging the directional either way will cut the noise off instantly. This was reported to the dealer the DAY we drove away with the vehicle 4-15-06 and went in for repairs 4-17-06 and back for a total of 5 times now thru 6-16-06, the noise is still occuring and they are unable to fix it. We have the issue on audio tape and had a service writer from same dealership witness the technicle issue on 6-10-06. GM refuses to speak to us or do anything about our lemon of a vehicle. We need help!!!! There was other issues wrong with the car that was witnessed by the dealership on 4-17-06 when we demanded they put our vehicle on a lift and allow us to see it.

Transmission failure lost 4th gear overdrive while cruising on the highway. vehicles rpms rev like car is in neutral. causing me to stop on the shoulder of the interstate with passing traffic at 75 mph.

Very noisy front end components, it seems to be more noise at a slow speed. it rattles, roars, just very noisy. this is at slow speed going down a normal street.

I have had my car for almost a year now and ever since i bought it, it has caused nothing but an issue. i always get an "engine power reduced" or sometimes even "starting disabled service throttle." this can happen anywhere from 1-100 times a day while i am driving. it has happened on city streets, highways, turning, you name it and it has happened. it is becoming a very big safety issue as it will do it in the middle of intersections and i fear that i will get into an accident. i have ran the codes and replaced every part in the car that dealerships have told me to replace but it still keeps happening. i have done a ton of research on what could be wrong and it not only seems like this is happening to a lot of people but the things they replaced in their cars fixed the issue but mine seems to not ever be able to be fixed. this has become a dangerous thing, as it has happened to me in the middle of snow storms on icy highways.

Wire harness connection behind passengers side kickplate melting due to rear defroster window not having a timer to shut off. it stays on the whole duration of having the defrosters on which in turn melts the connection due to not having a inline fuse. the melting connection can cause fire due to arcing connection.

While driving the traction control light came on as well as the check engine light then reduced power so that i was driving at about 5 miles in traffic. car then stopped and there was no power at all. i put on my hazard lights and turned the car off waited a few minutes and it started and only check engine light remained on. i was fortunate to be almost at a red light when this happened in midtown manhattan so that there was only blaring horns when i couldn't move the car. my mechanic said i need to bring the car in when the lights are on so that he can read the error messages. the check engine light doesn't give him enough information. i haven't driven since as i'm afraid but will drive locally and bring the car to the mechanic as soon as those lights come on again. it has happened before but not when i could bring it to the mechanic. *tr

The transmission in these cars are junk i have replaced 5 of them and nobody can explain why the transmission keeps going out on these cars i just keep paying for new ones.

As many other 5.3 liter gm vehicles during this period, my car has been burning oil, fouling spark plugs, and throwing check engine lights for many years due to this all-too common issue. it is a safety hazard, and all gm vehicles with this motor issue should be recalled and fixed. it poses a serious hazard when you attempt to pull out into the road and the car sputters and misfires and you have no power because oil is seaping past the rings.

The chevrolet impala i own has had major problems about a month after i bought the car.... the whole electrical area in the front has went haywire on me.... i cannot signal, or turn my bright lights on at any time.... plus, it will not start for me when i need it to, i always have to get a jump from someone, & that even takes between 10-20 minutes.... the place that i bought it from, the repairmen cannot fix it right for me, it is not fair to pay all this money for my car, which will not work right... i have not been able to use my signals for a very long time now, it is very, very frustrating to me.... i have been stranded on the streets, the highway, even at work after my shift, it has even stopped on me while taking my kids to & from school....

Automatic transmission slipping gears on take off, wheels sound like bearings are going out, like a grinding noise. changed the front brake pads and rotors together due to wheel wobble and brake sensors on display. constantly displaying "service traction control" on message board. dealership has refused to assist with this issue as well as any failures of the vehicle. vehicle now is immobilized, and will not go into a forward movement only a reverse drive. wheels are locked up and vehicle is stranded! still making payments on this used purchase. please advise!!!

Neither of the two horn buttons on the stearing wheel activate the horn. either the buttons do not work or the horn does not work.

I was driving the car earlier today in the power steering pump was making noise. so i check it it was empty i filled it up with power steering fouled.come to find out its a leak again. for the third time in that the lights been flickering since i bought the car for two days the check battery system light was on. then one day it cut off on me in traffic. while driving .then after a while i got a jump but the car didn't stay running on its on after the fifth try it stayed running.i was able to drive home now every other week so. i have to messing with cable cord on the battery to get the car to start. just so happened today my alternator. was on fire. the fire department had to cut all the wiring off that was connected to the battery just to stop the fire from burning .

In my 006 impala ss the transmission is starting to slip. the car is around 83,000 miles when i first noticed this issue, and the vehicle wasn't doing any hard acceleration (around 20-25 miles an hour shifting from first to second gear). i am worried that i will have to pay to get it replaced.

The receiving seat belt connector coupling device at the base of the drivers seat will not secure the seat belt male end. the red button the normally flush with the top of the receiver. you would normally depress the red button down to release the seat belt once locked into the coupling device. numerous attempts with engaging the belt into the connector is unsuccessful. tried lubricating the mechanism. no help. it's a self contained device and can not be disassembled for repair. *tr

The back driver side door will not open from the inside or the outside when you pull the handle from the outside it doesn't feel like there's anything catching on the inside it's just loose, it's the same way from the inside also. i went to the store when i left my house i put my daughter in her car seat on that side the door open fine it shut and latched fine when i got to the store and got out to get my daughter out of her car seat the door just would not open it's like it's locked but it's not locked you can move the mechanical lock up and down from the inside , and you can also hit the lock and unlock with the key fob and it doesn't make a difference. the door just will not open. this really concerns me considering if there was an accident and the back passenger needed to get out of the car they wouldn't be able to. this could be a very bad safety issue, and has me extremely concerned considering i have three small children that ride in the backseat daily this is my daily driver

Last thing i have not received anything in the mail regarding the recalls on my car the 2006 chevrolet impala but i did get one for my 2005 chevrolet impala but i have neva received anything on my 2006

I got home from work at 7:15am this morning 9-29-2019 i was laying in bed watching a movie trying to go to sleep and when i finally doze off my son asked if he could go get a charger out of the car so he went out to the car and when he opened the door he said smoke hit him in his face he immediately ran back in the house yelling “mom your car is on fire so i ran down the stair and went outside and thats all you see is smoke my car was on fire i immediately called 911 they got the fire put out and the fireman and the police officer said my fire started from my steering wheel because after the fact the fire was put out the fireman said he noticed that the steering wheel was throwing sparks still so they said that’s what caused my car to caught on fire i don’t know what i’m gonna do i have 4 kids and that was our transportation that’s how my kids got to school and that’s how i got to work i’m lost i don’t know what to do i need transportation i’m a single parent with 4 kids it will not let me mark everything but every in the car is burnt my cd player 13” subwoofer speakers that was in the trunk my amp

3rd transmission replacement in less than 150,000 miles

A couple days ago on january 5th, my car started taking a second longer than normal to start up after sitting for hours at a time but when i shut it off immediately and wait about 3 to 5 seconds to start it, it starts perfectly fine. i have between 148,000 and 149,900 miles and i've had it for three years and this is the first time it happened.

It just been a like a real electrical problem like if i pull out in traffic is stalled it hesitate it has been hit a few times like that and like it just have to get a jump off every morning and every evening just to go anywhere and i truly don't know what to do i'm taking back to the dealer that i bought it from me at like i don't know what's wrong with it and i'm took it to a mechanic shop and they say it's electrical defect it it's going to kill the whole car and it's going to eventually kill me

The check battery system light was on for about 3 weeks ,was driving down the road and the vehicle caught on fire and burnt to the ground, the fire department and state.police said that it was an electrical fire. iwas on the highway and barely got out of the car before the whole car was up in flames.

Sunroof exploded. several years ago, i was driving on a sunny day, around 70 degrees. it was a 2-lane highway, and there were no vehicles nearby in either direction, no trees near the highway, and the roadway was clear. i was driving about 55-60 mph. there was a sudden loud cracking sound, and several seconds later a louder bang. i stopped and found the sunroof was in tiny pieces. fortunately, the inside cover was closed, so the amount of glass coming into the car was fairly small. i no longer own this car. i'm not looking for any kind of help on this. i just recently became aware that this is a fairly common issue, and simply wanted to report it. the date below is a guess, might even be a year or two off.

I would like it documented that someone is going to be seriously injured or killed all due to a known and reported issued unless chevy does the right thing and issues a recall immediately! i have a 2006 impala and while driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour my vehicle dropped down to 15 mph saying reduced engine power then completely shut off on the highway. please note my 2 year old son, and 10 year old daughter were in the vehicle with me. i was fortunate enough to make it off to the side without being hit much less killed but other people not may be so fortunate. what is it going to take for a recall to be issued?

The driver side sun visor does not stay up and it falls into your view when driving. this is a common issues with these cars. this should be a safety recall as it could fall into view of the windshield unexpectedly and cause a car crash.

Winter of 2016 i lost power steering while i was driving 60mph. my wheel was almost like it was froze and took all i had to pull off the road. i was leaking power steering fluid i was told by a motorist who stoped to help. he said drive it to nearest mechanic. i did and was told it was the hose had burst. he fixed it. then 4 mo later car was whinning and lost steering again. this time pump was bad and other hose was leaking. fixed it. now driving on a cold day and lost steering again!!! fluid all over ground and horrible whine again. i am a disabled 55 year old woman and its so nhard to steer car. im very lucky i didnt crash. as well as being on a very strict income of ssi disability and unable to afford getting same thing fixed. itsvery upsetting. i checked for mrecal and there isnt any for this. please help with info on what i can do next. thank you.

Trying to put car in gear its stuck in park all because of wiring near the bottom of the gear shut the wiring is weak and breaks real easy whitch is a safety hazzard because then you can be stuck somewhere. this has happend on multiple occasions to me and others i think it needs to be recalled and thicker wires.

Oil pressure sensor comes on and states the following: oil pressure low, stop engine. this message flashes and a beeping noise comes on. the vehicle is in motion highway, street, turning, etc... even after oil changes and checking oil level is good the above still comes on.

Has been an ongoing problem for 4 years happening occasionally, now daily, and keeps getting worse. power steering fails at low idle and sometimes gets stuck until i give it a little acceleration to get it turning. happens while trying to park or turn at a low rate of speed, but now happening at a faster speed, while turning onto another street.

I was driving down the road when the engine just completely lossed power... the car wouldnt start up unless i unplugged the battery for at least 10 minutes. the dashboard read engine reduced power.. very scary situation..i dont feel safe driving this vehicle anymore.

Slipping from dead stop to acceleration. then it jerks forward does this couple times a month.

Takata recall my windows stop working all together my car some time dont go when i push the gas it will jerk real hard and then some times it takes along time to brake and this been a on going thing but when i called the dealer they gave me a hard time about if there where any recalls about it

Ongoing issue with error message relating to "service traction control" "reduced engine power" appeared 4/10/2016. ongoing history and service related to throttle position and sensor (also serviced) codes p2176; p 2135. 8/1/15 i have addressed through replacing of throttle position and sensor; battery cable (dealership svc dept suggested low voltage related to this issue - retested, issue continues) parts store has suggested "throttle actuator control module p 1516' codes also include p0121, po2135, p2119 found pmc to be faulty -- "repair and replaced" 12/30/2014; throttle body assembly replaced on april 5, 2014. this has been an ongoing issue for two years. engine power drops and car will only drive at a low speed < 40mph. this is when the car is in motion. various attempts to resolve the problem have been unsuccessful. this issue began at apx 140k miles and has reoccurred at 166l, 167k, 180k, 193k. speeds that it has occurred has been at highway speeds of 60-65mpg to residential 25-35mph. records have services dates are available; too many to upload all.

The dash in my impala cracked suddenly a few months ago. i didn't know it was an issue in chevrolet vehicles until i saw a report. also, my heater does not actually blow heat unless i am accelerating! it is such an inconvenience during this time of year b/c when it's cold outside & i have to slow down or stop at a red light or stop sign, the car gets cold inside! lastly, when the temperature is changed from hot to cold or if the fan is set to circulate over the entire car, it starts making a knocking noise for about 30-60 seconds. this has been an issue for a while.

Rear defrost stopped working. when i looked into why, i found the large electrical connector thats behind the front passenger kick panel to be completely burnt. the connections are obviously not rated high enough to handle the amps needed. when i looked on line there is hundreds of people complaining about the same thing. this circuit is also not protected by a fuse. it's a miracle that this didn't burn my car to the ground. this is a very large problem with a large number of effected cars. mine was just a small electrical fire, but could have been much worse.

I was driving my vehicle when it suddenly cut off with an "engine power reduced" sign and the car ultimately shut off completely. the car would not come back on. it had to be towed home and then towed to a chevy dealership in frankfort, il. the chevy dealership could not depict the problem and held my car for almost two weeks. the dealership said that it may be something intermittent but failed to fix the issue. the dealership released my car to me and the engine power reduced returned the next day. the car is currently out of commission.

The drivers side seatbelt fails to latch. on the morning of 9/9/2015 i was unable to get the seatbelt to latch no matter what i tried. the red button moves up and down freely just like the other seatbelt latches in the vehicle. is there a recall on this year impala? 

The driver seat belt will not latch. the passenger airbag says off.

At start up of my car the driver side airbag would say service required, but it would go away when we buckled up. when in a week it started to stay on. it no longer goes away. also now y when i shut off my car the radio will stay on even when you open the drivers side door and lock it. i have to manually shut it off.

I was driving north on route 24 - dixie highway - south of davisburg road / north of i-75 (oakland country, mi) at 6pm on thursday june 25, 2015. there was a chevy impala driving south in the northbound lane (i.e. he was heading the wrong way). i avoided him by swerving but he collided with a ford explorer heading north. the collision was nominally a head on, offset towards the driver's side. the impala was fairly new, afterwards i checked pictures on the web and i'm pretty confident it was a my 2006-2012 model. the explorer was fairly new as well. i was one of the first people to arrive at the scene of the accident. the impala driver wasn't wearing his seat belt and was unconscious laying across the front seats when i arrived. the windshield was cracked where his head had struck it. the horn was sounding and it looked like fuel had been spilled. i wanted to makes sure the car was off to prevent a fire so i removed the keys from the ignition. the horn continued to sound. it was eventually stopped when someone disconnected the cables from the battery. none of the airbags in the impala had been deployed. there was a knowledgeable volunteer near by who told us not to touch the driver because he may have spinal injuries. i spent the next thirty minutes at the scene and provided a written statement to the police. based upon the way the body was handled, i am assuming the driver of the impala was killed by the impact. i am surprised that there was enough force in the impact to kill the driver (i assume) but not enough to deploy the airbags. the driver in the explorer was injured but her injuries didn't look especially serious and her airbags deployed. i believe the impala should be investigated / inspected by a trained professional to establish the root cause on why the airbag didn't deploy.

Had purchased vehicle from dealer in ashland va back in september 2014. had no concerns about the vehicle until first trip not driving vehicle for a week and upon return vehicle would not start. had jumped started vehicle and got check engine light which was on for three days then cut off. in february 2015 had not driven vehicle for two week period and upon return vehicle would not start again. checked battery and had replaced along with cleaning positive battery post for corrosion. check engine light was on for two to three days then cut off - check code at firestone dealership showed code p2135 - dealership could not determine where possible power drainage could be coming from and recommended to take vehicle to chevy dealership and have them test for power drainage. as long as the vehicle is started/used without prolonged period of inactivity, vehicle operation for this model year is acceptable.

Ac blend door actuator (there are 3 of them) is insufficiently designed to hold up to normal wear and tear. the location of the switches makes maintenance nearly impossible. it would be assumed that the design would be sufficient to hold up under several years use since accessibility to these parts is very difficult. the parts themselves cost about $27 (twice that at the dealership) at your parts store but the dealership and/or independent mechanics charge hundreds of dollars to replace this part. my car is now 10 years old and i have had to replace all 3 of these switches at least twice and the most difficult to get to switch has been replaced a total of 4 times. it seems that the actual life expectancy of these parts (in actual use) is approximately +/- 15 months. *tr

While driving home from work received engine reduce power and service traction control light. i was on the freeway going 65mph when this message came on and lost power to my car. i was nearly hit by cars behind me. apparently my throttle body was at fault. about a year later had the exact same thing happen while coming home from work. throttle went bad and was nearly struck by traffic again. google chevy impala throttle body and you will see all the problems. not sure how this has not been recalled yet. when i took the vehicle in for service i was told that they do at least 3-4 of these a week. how is this allowed to be put on cars when at any random point this could quit. they said it has an issue related to oil corroding the wires which would also explain why i go through 3-4 qts of oil every 3,000 miles. the oil does not drip anywhere but gm said this was standard and common. *tr

I've been experiencing the same problem with my 2006 impala off and on for the last year, maybe more. the car will randomly give me an error of "engine power reduced." the car slows to a crawl, has no acceleration, the engine shakes and it sputters until the engine is turned off. i took it to a mechanic who said it was the tps sensor. he replaced the throttle body. the car ran fine for a few months and then it started again. since i was getting the same codes, i took it back to the mechanic who informed me that it could be an electrical problem or it could have been caused by my battery, but there's no way to tell for sure without troubleshooting. i have since been to several mechanics, all who say the codes point to the throttle body, but they also agree that i shouldn't be getting these codes so quickly after replacing the unit - which cost over $300. i'm a single mother who works and goes to graduate school full time. i don't have the resources to carelessly dump money into a car. i've put up with it because i can usually pull over, turn the engine off, wait a minute and it will crank back up; however, it has gotten progressively worse. last night, i was driving down the interstate when the console read "starting disabled service throttle." the engine then shut off while i was driving at highway speeds and left me stranded on the side of a dark highway, alone, with a car full of groceries and a son who was waiting on his mom to get home to put him to bed. fortunately, i was on a road without a lot of other cars around or it could have been much more dangerous. i've done a lot of research and this seems to be a very common problem with gm cars. an internet search will reveal the same symptoms and the same results from dealers, all without a permanent fix. gm needs to investigate this issue which clearly affects a large number of cars across the gm brand! *tr

In dec 2011/transmission failed at 88900 miles on my impala that i purchased brand new, car was out of warranty, i paid half and gm paid half , to rebuild transmission- so i thought, nov 2013- 25000 miles later, trans started to fail again, i called gm, opened another case, no results or response, once again, dec 2014, i contacted gm again, transmission gone in car approx. 30,000 miles later, from when they initially rebuilt the trans, and the dealer now wants 2200 to put a trans in the car, i paid almost 2000 before in dec.2011/jan2012 for that trans to be rebuilt, here it is 30000 mile later and the trans is going...they should have re-called the transmissions in that car, because everyone has same horror story about the 2006/2007/2008's transmissions/ i have 3 separate case #'s with gm, regarding that trans on my car. i also own a 2013 malibu, so the 2006 impala had not been driven enough for the trans to be gone on it again. *tr

The power steering pump has been replaced 4 times in 5 or 6 years. there was a recall on the power steering cooler line which was repaired by replacing clamps and hose as per recall in 2011.on 10/12/12 the steering gear and the power steering pump were replaced. on 10/25/12 the power steering pump that was put on 10/12/12 was found to be leaking and was replaced. it was still under warranty. on 12/16/14 another power steering pump had to be put on as the previous one had failed. the pump that was replaced was not under warranty. *tr

I purchased my 2006 impala ss brand new in 2006. i've been a loyal gm customer my whole life. at 99,000 started experiencing transmission issues, slipping,and hard shifting... at 101,000 miles i was driving down the highway and my transmission stopped working. i refinanced my car to rebuild the transmission for $2,200 . after the rebuild transmission was working ok. then at 122,000 miles it stopped working again... it was snowing and i was stranded in the turn lane of a road with a speed limit of 55mph... i turned off my car let the engine cool down and back on at least 20 times... my car moved about 200 feet each time... an hour later i got back to my house that was 5miles from the failure. i cant afford to fix it now and i am still paying for the car. its been sitting in my yard for 10 months. this issue is very dangerous and needs to be resolved. i also received a recall for my power steering hose, got it fixed and the brackets came loose from my frame causing my steering to get very hard. i pulled over and checked my power steering fluid at walmart and it was empty. i filled it and everything was working. the next morning i had no power steering again... my hose had rubbed on my frame making a hole. i went to the store and bought more power steering fluid but after i put it in my steering was making a loud sound and didn't turn well. i think it was damaged due to the leak. i too have a loud clicking sound coming from my dashboard when i turn on my car. i was told by the dealership it was the vent flap motor ... $750 dollars to repair... part is only $65 the rest is labor... also when i first bought my car i had to get all 4door windows replaced (under warranty) due to improper window guide adjustment. and my automatic trunk release works off and on, my keyless entry only works 5 feet from my car with new batteries,and all tire pressure sens. went bad$100 each help. *tr

The gm "fix" for the ignition issue is to replace keys so that nothing can be attached to the key, including not even the fob, the "fix" is not to replace the faulty part to the ignition. i've had my car since 2006 and driven it all this time with a lot of other keys and the fob attached. during that time i have had no trouble with the ignition. i think there may be an engineering oversight: it stands to reason that having used the key with the weight attached for 8 years probably would have worn the internal connections based on the weight of the inserted key. it also seems reasonable, that now having a key that is light weight being inserted into the same chamber as the heavily weighted key, will mean that the new key won't fit or make the proper connection in the ignition because the new key will not be as heavy, and therefore the "fix" is really creating a new problem. why wouldn't the whole ignition apparatus having to do with the key be replaced as well as keys????? i think this is a big oversight, and a big problem. especially since all the testimony i heard or read about this issue from gm is that they would replace the "mis-sized part" --- i was surprised to learn from my dealer that it is the keys that are being replaced, and will not be able to have the fobs attached. this is surely deception, and if the "fix" has not been tested on every car, how can we trust that the new keys will work with the by now worn internal and incorrect part? this is a big problem. i've written to my senator about this. . .and will follow up with the representative. in the meantime, i go thursday to get the new keys. . .thereafter the old keys won't work with my car. I've received a letter stating my vehicle is involved in gm recall 14299, thanks for the update, but parts are not currently available?! the letter repeats how the repairs will be performed for me at no charge... whoopie its your mistake i should not even have to worry about this type of thing. and so what you repair what you didnt get right in the first place, what about the gas i have to put in to drive over 50 miles away to get to a gm dealer? what about the days i miss from work and/or my college classes? oh you're sorry for my inconvenience? what good does your sorry do for me? i work full time, go to college full time and i run my own household i dont have the time or money to drive that far to sit around a garage for an hour or more for it to get fixed. not to mention the stress i endure while im driving in what i thought was a reliable family car, now i am merely waiting for it to go off the road unintentionally move the key away from the run position and lose my engine power, power steering, power braking and the air bags not deploying increasing my risk of injury or fatality?! now i am supposed to just rest easy and wait for my fatality to possibly occur at any moment while im driving my car that i pay good money for while you figure out when you'll be able to send me a letter which could take months and then set me up an appointment that doesnt interfere with my schedule which is highly unlikely and could also take months. so until then i am to just drive my death trap and wait for the next letter to arrive. i've never bought anything but a chevrolet but with this incident im not sure i'll ever buy one again. something should be done. i understand you make mistakes im not blaming you there but you should have to pay for your mistakes not me, a full time college/working student trying to make my while through college on what little i make.

I was stopped at a stoplight and tried to accelerate only to find out i was not moving much. i determined there was another issue with the transmission not shifting into gear. the light turned green and i was almost rear ended in a multiple vehicle accident until i slowly down shifted out of drive to 1st gear. i was finally able to up shift through 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears up to road speed and then shift into drive. this has been a regular occurrence since this time. i have issues with hard shifting when i back out of my driveway, from a full stop and even when the transmission tries to shift up when i am driving in town or highway speeds. this creates a very dangerous situation for me and other drivers. please research this issue and bring this to the attention of general motors. i think for as many impacted cars as are on the road there should be a safety recall issued. i don't think there needs to be deaths with people driving these cars before the manufacturer should make design changes. when i purchased this car i thought it would be safe and have just normal wear and tear issues. this has not been the case with my 2006 chevrolet impala. i have had numerous issues crop up that i see other car owners have endured as well from the online posts about said such issues. i am happy for youtube and others that had gone through the same issue. at least i was able to figure out how to resolve some issues when the local gm dealership garage and mechanics could not isolate and trouble shoot my issues. as i report yet another issue today i received a recall notice about the ignition today. *tr

Last june i went to the store and tried to open my back doors and they would not open from the inside. i was able to open one of the back doors from the outside only. the door locks indicated the doors were not locked. if i was involved in an accident and needed to get people out of the back seat of my car they would not be able to get out on their own. the locking mechanisms failed on both doors. both doors has this lock issue for about 3-4 months and then one of the locks started working again from the inside. eventually the other door started working again once it was getting close to winter. this is a serious safety issue that needs looked into and a recall done by gm. gm consistently puts out expensive cars with inadequate parts that fail. i researched this issue online and found this was typical of all chevy imapla's no matter the year. *tr

I had just purchased this car in january of 2007 and i had noticed the transmission having issues when shifting gears. i first noticed this issue when backing out of my driveway and pulling the car into gear (drive) there would be a hesitation and a "clunk" noise. i was not sure what the issue was at first so i waited until it happened again and called the local chevy dealer to inspect it, as it was under warranty. the mechanic could not replicate the problem and told me there was no issue. the transmission had continued to have issues over the past 6-7 years. i also had the transmission act up when i would be driving in town from a stop up to highway speeds. at a full stop the car would hesitate to shift into gear almost causing multiple accidents. many times i would need to down shift to first gear and up shift in order to get my vehicle going. in the past three years i have personally almost been in about 12 or more potential accident situations because of the transmission issue. i have read in many online forums that this is a serious and known issue with the chevy impala transmission. this is an issue that needs to be researched and resolved with a recall campaign. from what i have researched online there is an issue with a module with the transmission. please research this issue as i will be contacting gm as well over this faulty part/design of transmission. *tr

My 2006 chevrolet impala is experiencing problems with the tire pressure monitoring system, as well as the remote keyless entry system. both systems use the same antenna in the vehicle, and the module controlling each system is defective. many times a day while driving, an alert will appear saying "service tire monitoring system" and i will lose readings of my tire pressures. mandated in 2005, tpms systems are as important as air bags and seat belts in vehicles, so this is a serious safety concern. i recently had a flat tire that could have resulted in a blowout on the expressway had i not visually checked the tire because the tpms system was not working correctly. i have found a service bulletin regarding the issue with a document id of 1990156. i have contacted gm about the issue and was told that it was no longer covered by the original vehicle warranty and a service bulletin is not enough for them to replace the equipment without charging myself, the consumer. this safety issue needs to be addressed because these systems are in place to increase the safety of the vehicle and they are not serving that purpose due to poor design right out of the factory. in addition to the failure of the tpms system, the defect also makes the remote keyless entry system useless due to extremely poor range (~2 feet). this is more of a convenience issue, but it is still caused by the same defect.

There is a very common problem with 2006-2013 impala rear defrosters not working. look on youtube and you will see the problem is very evident. gm/chevy used a small bulkhead connector for the high current defroster wires located on the passenger side kick plate of the 2006-2013 impala's that burns out. this really should be a recall due to a fire hazard. the "how to" fix on you tube looks like it will work, but this really should be addressed and fixed by gm. inexperienced mechanics trying to fix this may get hurt, let alone increasing the electrical/fire hazard by improperly "fixing" the problem. gm is recalling their vehicles for everything else so why not fix a known problem? sad for people in winter climates not being able to see out their rear window due to this systemic problem associated with the impala. *tr

While driving home from work traveling at a speed of 70 mph i suddenly received a notification of reduced power and to service my traction control had the problem diagnosed as a faulty engine control module still having this problem. *tr

From the day i purchased this car i've had nothing but trouble out of it, about the second to third week of me driving this car i notice a slight slip as i would take off from a dead stop it felt like as if there were banana peals under the wheels as i would begin to take off at first it was slightly... now it will stutter vary badly then it will find the gear then take off!! from this occurring i've almost been in three accidents thank god that no cars hit me i've done numerous research on this car and everyone has the same problem transmission failure and the issues that i'm having seem like this is the beginning before the end, there's seriously needs to be a recall on the chevrolet impala transmissions everyone is having the same issue it's not safe and it's unfair to consumers i still can't believe that there hasn't been a recall on them, i hope no one has to die before it's noticed please do an investigation on this issue. *tr

I was driving on the highway at 60 mph when all of a sudden the message reduced engine power appeared and my speed dropped down to 30 mph. it was rush hour traffic and i panicked. i tried pressing the gas pedal all the way down but my speed would not increase. the car behind me almost plowed into the rear end of my car but luckily there was space in the lane to the right for that car to quickly move over to avoid hitting me. they honked and i maneuvered to the shoulder of the highway and put my car in park. i restarted my car about 10 minutes later and got off the next exit so i could take side streets home since i was frightened my car would again suddenly lose power. i drove to auto zone and had the code ran and it was for the throttle position sensor and throttle body. after researching online i came across the edmunds forum where hundreds of gm owners had the exact same problem ! gm needs to recall and replace these inferior throttle body parts but i guess until there are fatalities it will go ignored ??? *tr

I was turning from one street onto another and all of a sudden there was a clanking noise coming from under the car and then the power steering went out along with the brakes and my acceleration. i had to pull over and stop the car. after all this my car would not start and every time i tried to start my car, it sounded like the battery died but i know it wasn't the battery. *tr

From time to time i hear some banging noise like someone is in my trunk or like it the side. i'm not sure what it . also my power steering make noise all the time. and my driver side headlight bulb comes loose and blows out a lot. it seems like it's something with the connector. to many issues with this car. *tr

In the fall 2010 i purchased the 2006 impala with nearly 19,000 miles on it. . from the start i was having problems losing air with one of the tires, and each time i took it in, was told it was fixed. at the beginning of 2013 i started pumping air into that one tire every 3,4, days, and the grinding noise i heard since april of 2013, ( at which time it passed inspection) progressed into not being able to steer at all. on april 4, 2014,(car inspection time) i managed to bring the car to the dealership i purchased from. after spending $921. for the yearly ny state inspection, four new tired, the problem with the deflating tire, the power steering , i thought everything is "ok". not so. as i drove the car home, i heard this loud humming noise. i thought i purchased some bad tires??? so i drove the car a little longer, hoping the noise will subside. not so!!. so, on may 20, this year 2014 i again took the impala to the dealership. after replacing a front wheel bearing and another bill for $526. i needed to talk with one of the owners. at which time i also discussed the steering wheel problem. he gave me all kinds of explanation..... and reduced the bill to $356.. after incurring a total sum of 1,278. i do not know who to blame. the car manufacturer???, the dealer???? or my lack of car knowledge. i am a single 75 year old woman, on a very limited ss income who thought this car should last my lifetime. i drove other cars before, and never experienced such heartache as i do now. as of today 5/20/2014 the mileage on the vehicle is 43,882. i kept this car in the garage, as you can see by the mileage, this should have not happen. *tr

I was on the freeway going 60-65 mph. my car jumped or i just felt a change and my rpm needle moved. as i tried to push in the gas pedal the rpm needle would move up to 4rpms but my speed wouldn't increase it was almost as if i was driving in neutral i pulled off to the side of the highway just in time for my car to stall. i sat there for only a minute and started it again and drove back home fine to my cousins shop where he found nothing wrong, no codes found and their was never a code displayed on the dash during this. my transmission fluid wasn't burned and it was clear and pink. i'm frustrated bc this is an gm issue and they aren't doing anything. i could of been hit and killed. my dad has a blazer that is sitting in our driveway for the same issue, the gm dealership among a couple other places can't find out what's wrong. someone please help me among others get gm to look into our cars at least for free. i have a child that is always in the car with me an if anything was to ever happen to us because of an issue gm won't resolve there will be many lawsuits including mine. *tr

Well lets see i just bought this 2006 chevrolet. impala ls 4dr sedan and it surges like crazy im going from 0 to 35 and my car is trying to go but it almost like if i was pushing the gas pedal of and on and it makes m6 head bob back and forth when it does it i think its the transmission not running right but this is very dangerous and could cause a law suit towards gm plus the steering wheel gets real stiff some times its hard to turn . i have two boys and i hope that this stupid car doesn't get us killed because of this problem that gm wont fix are lives mean nothin . maybe i should go to channel 4 news and report this problem and how gm wont fix this. *tr

Its a 2006 impala she was driving down the freeway and smoke came out the vents of the dash !!! the traction light was on and the power seats do not work but it still runs, she left the car and had it toed ! so i was wondering if this has happened to any one else ? it looks like it happens a lot but gm has not done anything about it !!!! i read a lot of dash fires from the electrical box on different complaints and some the door locks do not work when the electrical problems begin and traps you in the car !!! its hard to believe this goes on with no outcome its like someone has to die or get killed before anything is done. *tr

At about 91000 miles my transmission started acting up (not shifting right, not going into any gear etc.) it finally would not shift at all unless i turned the car off multiple times and would then drive for about 2-5 minutes then all the gears would go out again. i had it towed to a transmission shop thinking it was just a censor and was told that my transmission would have to be replaced/repaired. it cost me almost $3000 to get it fixed. i have read on here and online that the 2006 chevy impala has had many issues with this. this is a very costly repair and wish there was a way to get at least a little refund on the cost. also i have tried about everything to get the passenger side body side molding to stay on and people i have talked to state that they have had issues with that one staying on. it catches my door if i don't remember to push it in before opening the door. it is going to cost me $50.79 plus shipping to get a new one of these as well. the third thing i have wrong is i have had to replace both wheel bearings in the front end because of my abs traction control sensor being messed up! *tr

I have been having an issue with my steering column in my impala i know there was a recall on some impala's but when i contacted a local dealer i was told mine wasn't in recall . yet there's a popping noise in steering column and just recently i started having problems with my high beam lights they will switch to high beam whenever i use my blinker and i have to push in n hold in the blinker switch for a few mins before the high beam lights will go off ! i've bright lighted so many ppl over this problem and i feel very guilty if i caused someone to crash over bright lighting them even though it's out of my control really . please help me find out if my car should be checked for this steering knuckle recall bc a mechanic told me that it sounds like that is what may be the issue , thank you . *tr

Driving 65 speed limit, traction control light and engine light came on. traction control alternates with engine power reduced. slowed vehicle to 40 mph. other cars dangerously close and blowing horns. pulled off road, opened hood shut off engine. found nothing wrong. restarted everything normal except engine light still on but power is available. this cycle repeats every few days. there are many people with this problem. about time gm sheds some light on the problem. *tr

There are thousands of complaints over this problem. not a lot have reported to you but just look up engine power reduced on google. i can not believe gm hasn't done a recall, i guess enough people haven't died yet. you will be driving and all of a sudden the car will loose speed, your car will not accelerate and the engine power reduced will appear on the info bar. i was lucky no one was behind me and i made it home safely. maybe i should call my local news station and have them do an investigation since gm doesn't care about their customers lives only their payments. *tr

Original owner of vehicle. noticed sometime in august of 2013 that the rear window defogger wasn't working. checked fuse, relay, grid connections and found incomplete circuit. traced open circuit to a wiring harness connector behind passenger side kick panel under glove box. found that rear window defogger wire (purple) was burned and insulation was melted. separated the wiring harness connector to find that specific connector for this wire inside connector was also burned and melted on both sides of the connector. concerned about fire hazard. *tr

Engine light came on, "reduced traction control" light came on, power was drastically reduced and then "reduced engine power" light came on. car has a problem that needs to be addressed, but cutting off power and acceleration while i'm making a turn with oncoming traffic or driving 70+ mph is not a safe way of addressing that problem. i can turn off the car and regain power. nearly any other way of addressing the code would be infinitely better than killing power while driving. it is not safe. *tr

When driving down the road the car will start to slowing down and chugging then say engine power is being reduced and it will barley drive from there. the car can be going at any speed and be doing this. this is very dangerous driving and all the sudden your car chugs to almost nothing and their are several complaints about this problem in gm forum of complaints. *tr

Observed a fluid leak near right front wheel. the leak is power steering fluid. found the leak to be caused by a hole in the aluminum power steering return/cooling line. the line was leaking caused by the plastic wheel well liner rubbing a hole in the aluminum tube. *tr

I just got off the highway and attempted to go through an intersection, when i tried the transmission only revved up, the car did not pick up speed (very close to becoming an accident). after that the person behind me almost got hit by me because i was on a hill and my car wouldn't move. *tr

I was getting off the expressway when i just all of a sudden feel a shaking coming from the steering wheel i noticed the service traction control was on so i pulled over that's when it shut down on me. i then got the wheel hubs and ball joints changed because i thought that was the problem but it was not so my mechanic reset the vehicle went off for a day then came back on. *tr

Was driving in to work. stopped at mcdonald's and noticed car smoking. drove across the street to my job to my dash board lighting up warning me to shut the engine off because the car was overheating. i did exactly that (shut the car off) and went inside to call for help. this is the 3rd problem that i have had with this car and i have had the car almost 4 years. like many other complaints, my heat doesn't work properly, i'm going through oil like crazy, and i seem to be having transmission issues as it hard to get the car out of park and into drive and when it does finally go, i get whiplash from the jerk. gm needs to step up before someone is severely hurt. *tr

My car had been showing the service battery charging system for about two days. when i called southeast kia of somerset, they tried to say it was the actually battery, keep in mind, i have only had this car for six weeks. i knew that it wasn't because i had been having no problems with my car whatsoever before this, and i was raised around mechanics and truck drivers, i do know a little about cars. when i turned the car off it would not start back up. i had the battery jumped three times and it died sitting there, we finally got it charged so that i could drive to my mothers, but had problems on the way there. as i was driving, all of my gauges completely stopped working in my car, and i thought the car had died and that i was coasting. so i pulled over to the side of the road, with my three children in the car, and realized the car was running. i shut the car off, but it kept running. now, kia is saying that if it's the alternator it's not covered under a two year warranty that i have, because they don't want to have to fix it basically. i have been severely ripped off, and now me and my children are without a car. i think it is ridiculous that car lots are able to send out terrible and unreliable cars to people without a second thought, and then don't want to fix things. now i am trying to find a way to get a different car and leave this piece of junk on their lot, i will probably never buy a car again unless it only has about 20 miles on it and is brand new, and will definitely do more research on the type of car, along with the dealership selling it to me. and kia has not heard the last of me as well. *tr

My husband and me were on our way home from a funeral, when were about to turn into our subdivision the steering wheel barely turned and is now making a hideous noise. when i called one of our local dealership and advised them what happened, much to my surprise they told me it would cost me $100.00 dollars for a diagnostic test. when i gave her my vin number she stated that it was not listed as one of the vehicles that had a recall. i don't know how they determine which cars are supposed to be considered a recall, but i do know it has the same issue as those recalled. i don't think i should have to pay for their failed product. *tr

My 2006 chevy impala will not turn on. i replaced the battery and starter with the same results. starter relay is also good. i have researched this problem on the web and to my horror, this is a common problem with this vehicle, with very high dollar possible solutions that may not work. every time i bring in this vehicle i am charged 100 dollars for them to say what is wrong and when they (supposedly) fix it ( or say it did not do it with them and its all in my head and your doing something wrong to it), it does it again. the charging system is ok but there is no power at all thruout the car but if you wait a couple of hours it will show lights but it will not even crank and then go completely dead. this same problem has happened from every other customer who has had this problem and cost them plenty of money without a solution. i have researched youtube, yahoo answers, fixit, etc... and this is what all these other numerous customers are saying even when they went to the chevy certified mechanics throuout the country. i do not have the resources to keep paying for diagnosis and numerous possible fixes that does not remedy the problem. bringing the vehicle to a chevy dealer for them to charge me an arm and a leg to not fix the problem ( and no they will not give you a refund for not fixing the problem that they charge a 100 dollars upfront to diagnose). this is not the only problem, the transmission slams into gear especially when you come from a start or after you back up and drive forward. this is not normal but chevy will say it us. i take pride in keeping my car running so i know it is not from neglect or abuse this is simply an ongoing problem that these chevy vehicles have because i m seeing this exact same problem on their other models throughout multiple year spectrum. this is ridiculous!!! all these consumers across the country are not wrong. *tr

2006 chevrolet impala. consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. *smd the consumer stated the transmission was slipping. she explained to the dealer, there was a recurring problem with the transmission. each time, the consumer went to the dealer, she was informed they could not recreate the problem, and therefore no problem existed. besides the transmission problem, there was a horrible ratcheting machine-gun type noise coming from behind the dash, when she changed the vent position. the loud noise lasted for about a minute and was almost ear-piercing. also, the engine mount broke, the water pump, steering and tie rods failed, the engine burned excessive amount of oil, and the engine low oil light illuminated. the windows made a screeching sound, the sunroof would drag, the plastic headlight covered were fogged and faded. the tire pressure monitoring light was constantly on. on april 24, 2013. the consumer took the vehicle to an independent transmission shop to have them assess the same transmission slipping problem, she had been experiencing for seven years. they dropped the transmission pan, and they found fine metal, pieces of aluminum and clutch material in the pan.

I purchased this car used at 115,000 miles in february of 2013. on my way taking my children to school on march 22,2013 my service traction light begin to flash followed by reduced power light. now i'm doing 45 miles an hour with cars right on my tail and had to get over in the other lane..to keep someone from running into the back of me. but this morning of may 10,2013 did it for me. on the way taking them to school it happened again,but i had to swerve off the road. my babies were all shook up.something really needs to be done about this,because this could be very fatal. no one wants to lose there life behind this. there are far to many complaints of this issue. the guy i purchased it from kept up the maintenance on it and so have i. i have put more money into this car than i have anyone of my others and they were older. i paid a good bit of money for this car, and as we all no money is not easy to come by these days. have a blessed day. *tr

Purchased the 2006 chevy impala 3.9l with about 30,000 miles. at around 60,000 miles i started to notice the transmission slip, maybe happened once every 20 trips. at around 70,000 miles it started happening more frequently, once or twice a week. had the car looked at by a mechanic and was told no issue was found. now at 75,000 miles and it happens multiple times almost every trip i take with my car. it occurs after shifting from park into drive then pulling off or when pulling off from a red light or stop sign. engine revs, car hesitates for 2-4 seconds then slips real hard into gear. i have read in numerous forums that gm tech say this is normal behavior for this transmission, and numerous people having their transmissions replaced only to have this issue recur. this issue almost resulted in crash once when entering a 40mph zone from a stop sign, as after stopping and taking my foot off the brake and applying the gas, the vehicle began rolling onto the 40mph zone and encountered a 6-7 second delay before slipping into gear and accelerating, causing the approaching vehicle to have to apply its brake abruptly to prevent a collision. at this point the slipping is becoming a real issue as i now have a toddler in my vehicle and do not want to risk any neck or other injuries due to the jerking of the vehicle when it slips into gear. *tr

I had just started driving to work around 8:00 am. got about 3 miles down the road and had got stopped at a traffic light. when the light turned green and i went to accelerate i felt a hard jerk from the vehicle as the rpm's went up and the vehicle went nowhere. after reading reviews and issues with these vehicles it looks like the transmission is starting to go. there needs to be a recall considering the fact that gm knows of the issue tsb# 07-07-30-012c. *tr

The rear doors will not from either the outside or the inside regardless of all actions to open them. rear passengers have to exit the vehicle by climbing over the front seats to exit from the front doors. *tr

Well for a month i been geting power reduce ingine on the dash bourd i got my husband to check it out and he cant belive what he saw did some reseach on line and look like this is a command problem so he bought the throttle body and no luck so then bought the pedal possion sensor hope gm can reimburse all the people that have this problem.i spent already close to $500.00 and am still working on the car please help...it not cool that gm is ignoring the situation it look look there aware of it.... *tr

During normal use the driver's seat belt buckle will not enter into the latch so the seat belt cannot be fastened. this is not yet repaired. the dealer states this is not a no charge repair of this critical safety item (dealer estimated $180 to $200 to replace). is this in accordance with nhtsa rules and requirements for seat belts? *tr

I have a 2006 chevy impala and there seems to be a problem with the transmission. we have taken the car to the dealers several times. we have changed the spark plugs, changed and flushed the transmission fluid. we are still having the car jerk off at a stop light. we you are stopped on an incline it also hesitates to go into gear and the jerks away! the dealer can never find a anything wrong and we have done all the recommended fixes. this seems to be getting worse. the gas cap and solenoid have also had to be replaced which everyone has had problems with. gm should recall these cars before someone gets hurt! *tr

My fiance was driving my car on his way to pick my children up from their grandmothers and smelled something burning. as he was trying to find a place to pull over smoke came into the vehicle near his feet and all of a sudden the car was on fire. he pulled over into a restaurant parking lot but by then the electric was out in the car so the doors were locked and he wasn't able to open the door. good thing he had the windows down prior to the fire because that was his only escape. one of the employees brought out a fire extinguisher and tried to put it out with no luck. the fire department arrived and finally was able to put the fire out. it was determined that the fire was in the area of the fuse panel and wiring harness. my car is a total loss after just paying it off just two weeks ago! heartbreaking. i've been doing my research and was surprised to find that i'm not the only person that this had happened to. this is a safety concern and it needs to be addressed! i'm just thankful that my children were not in the car when this happened because the worst could have happened all because no one wants to do a recall! thank god there were no fatalities but who's to say the next person this happens to will be so lucky? *tr *js

When i start from a stop the transmission does not fully engage for a few seconds. if i step on the gas, it rolls slowly forward, but once it catches it jerks forward really hard. i've know 2 others with this same issue, and the transmission shop says it's pretty common with these. cheap part to replace (clutch gasket or something), but $1700 in labor. i'm ready for a recall... *js

Intermittently usually from a stop car acts like its in neutral revs up and all of a sudden bangs into gear and takes off. very dangerous when in traffic and it unexpectedly does it when your trying to inch forward. almost causes a rear end collision because its intermittent. i am afraid i won't catch it in time. sometimes it goes for days without doing it and you get comfortable with it then wammo. took it to my shop and they tell me it could be a trans problem. bought car brand new and its happened before but seems to be getting worse. *tr

I purchased a 2006 impala ss, just recently after reaching 60,000 miles my transmission started slipping in 4th gear and overdrive at highway speeds. a short 300 miles later the transmission failed completely while driving home from work on the interstate. i had the car towed to a local transmission shop where i was told it either needed to be rebuilt or replaced. i had it rebuilt for $2442 all out of my own pocket because my powertrain warranty had already expired. now a mere 3 months later and now currently at 69,200 miles the new transmission is showing the same exact symptoms it had when it failed the first time. again with no warranty and repair costs over 2000 dollars i will soon be forced to replace the transmission again. not to mention rental car costs and the inconvenience of having this happen twice within a year and 10,000 miles apart. other recent issues include a check engine light on for a cylinder 6 misfire due to an oil fouled spark plug and burning or using a full quart of oil every 1000 miles i'm sure major engine repairs are soon to come. it almost makes me sick to my stomach knowing i still have 4 more years to pay on this vehicle and all of these problems under 70,000 miles majority of which are highway driven. needless to say this will be the last gm vehicle i ever own. *js

My wife was driving home from the grocery store on jan 1st, with my daughter in the passenger seat. they began to smell something burning, so my wife pulled over, when my daughter got out of the car she saw flames shooting out from under the glove compartmented good samaritan came running over with a fire extinguisher to attempt to put fire out, my daughter called 911, and the cranford fire dept. showed up within minutes to put out the fire. in the fire dept. report they said the fire was caused by an electrical problem from the fuse box. the car was ruled a total loss, the passenger side air bag deployed and the windshield cracked, luckily nobody was seriously hurt, but gm is claiming they have no responsibility for this fire. both my wife and i disagree, the car was well taken care of only at a gm dealer, and had no after market accessories installed.we have several photos taken by insurance company and the fire dept. report. if you need any further information please feel free to contact us. Transmission slipping, hard shifts, broken motor mounts. transmission acts like it's not in gear, doesn't engage until about 2,000 rpm then slams into gear. also slips when shifting from 1st to 2nd and again when in 4th gear. *tr transmission failure, the transmission fails to fully engage in to any gear when it is supposed to, it will slip and catch from a stop, the torque converter fails to lock up and all gears slip under moderate to heavy acceleration.

The replacement sensor which is supposed to correct my problem, the message service airbag comes up on the dash beneath the steering wheel and the passenger airbag light indicates the air bag is off even with the passenger sitting in the seat, will cost me $992.50 to fix, just for a censor this seems more like a computer, not an itty bitty sensor. sounds like an engineering design over-kill, $992.50 really, this is unreal for a sensor!!!! something is wrong here. it only takes 8/10ths of an hour to fix it. that is why i call it an engineering design over-kill!!! i can see a computer costing $992.50 to fix, but not a censor which only takes 8/10ths of an hour to fix. *tr

At the time my chevy had 105,000 miles on it the transmission went out, so i got it rebuilt it hasn't quite been a year a now the new transmission is stalling and not shifting correctly at times. also when using my turn signal to turn just as the wheel straightens up and the turn signal turns off it triggers the high beams to come on, this only happens if it's cold out or raining. *tr

Bought 2006 impala lt used in june 2009 with 41,000 miles replaced the factory tires didn't like the way they rode. started hearing a grinding noise that got louder with acceleration mechanic said all four tires were bad wearing on the inside. the tires only have 21,000 miles on them and most of my tires last me 40,000 minimum. did some online research found numerous complaints about premature wear for tires on chevy impalas. looking at another $500 + for brand new tires if the place i bought them doesn't uphold the warranty which is for 50,000 miles/5 years. i really like this car but there a numerous problems major and minor gm needs to focus more on quality. *kb

I have been hearing a clunking noise with my 2006 impala around 21,000 miles. when i brought it to the chevy dealer where i purchased the vehicle, they told me it was the rack and pinion system that needed to be changed. at this time the vehicle was four years old and no longer under warranty. i done some further research and spoke to a few other impala owners and they had the same issue, and had the intermediate steering shaft replaced. i brought it to another chevy dealer and self diagnosed the problem and they agreed with me. i had it changed with 28,000 miles on it. i contacted chevy and asked how this part can fail with so few miles. they blame it on wear and tear and didn't want to give me any assistance with the repair. this has been an ongoing problem with many impala and lumina lines for years, and should be covered under a recall. *tr

Transmission failure clutches worn slipping, had to have whole tranny rebuilt, took it to chevy dealer 8 months ago after it was slipping and banging into gear and whining noise (which was the bearing in the transmission being worn, chevy dealer said nothing wrong sent me home.. 8months later and $2,600 later had to have it rebuilt by private transmission shop. *tr

There is a loud tapping noise when you turn the a/c temp knob or try and change the air flow. the noise sounds like it comes from the passenger airbag area. the noise started when we bought the car on march 16,2010 but it only sound when we would change the air flow button. but today on september 8,2011 it started to make a faster louder tapping in the same place but this time in addition to the air flow bottom now its triggered by the a/c temperature knob. the noise is embarrassing as we as annoying! *tr

2006 impala ss, 5.3l v8. excessive oil consumption; 1 qt every 1,200 - 1,500 miles. problem started before car reached manufacturer 3 year 36000 mile warranty. dealer replaced valve covers to repair what were believed to be faulty pcv valves integrated into valve covers. oil consumption continues. dealer now wants to clean upper part of engine to open oil flow ports, still indicating oil is accumulating under valve covers and being pulled back into engine thru pcv valve. dealer has never performed compression test to determine if problem is really related to combustion chamber problems, such as bad piston rings. dealer has reported that this is a common problem on silverado pickup trucks with the same 5.3l v8 engine block. car now has 51000 miles and problem has not been solved. car will be going back to dealer with a demand for a compression check. *kb

Impala "ss" with only approximately 71,000 miles, major transmission malfunction / failure without any prior warning. vehicle had only been serviced at gm dealership since purchased, all regular maintenance followed. transmission slippage combined with harsh shifting, torque converter shudder, grinding noises from gears. vehicle would alternate between not going forward or, once moving, very difficult to stop vehicle because transmission did not disengage (nearly rear ended other vehicles, had to stand on brake pedal). no warning lights nor dash indicators, but remote diagnostic via onstar confirmed transmission failure and directed for immediate repair. valve body, pressure regular, all solenoids (rebuild) replaced under gmpp extended warranty coverage. not even two weeks later, problems returned but worse. nhtsa campaign # 10021844 and tsb # 070730012c seem to address this issue. vehicle now at gm dealership being assessed. onstar diagnostics found no issue. still no warning indicators, but vehicle have high rpm without any forward motion when accelerator depressed. rpms would also bounce up and down erratically on highway at steady speed, vibrations and whining noises from transmission. apparently this is known defect with multiple vehicles equipped with the 4t65-e transmission, but there has never been any recall. cost of repairs for this between $4,000 and $6,000 if not under warranty. this likely effects hundreds of thousands of gm vehicles covering many model years. *tr

The heat has never worked correctly unless you are accelerating. the vehicle can be warmed up and heating, but if its put into idle or at a stop it begins to blow cool. i have been told there is an air pocket that has to be bled out because there is a bad design where the hoses are above the block and they get clogged up. i have had it bled and it worked but now have had the same problem come back. *tr

I have had nothing but issues with this car. it started out with tire pressuring monitoring, pretty much fixed except on extended trips still get dummy light. driver's and passenger side windows scratched and still on occasion screech. i just apply oil and it stops for a while. tranny line leak - repaired, brake rotors where replaced 13,000 miles ago went bad again, vehicle out of alignment again and wearing tires out. mechanic states that intermediate steering shaft needs replaced. car has 95,000 checked on line and all of these items are known problems with chevy / gm vehicles. *tr

I have a 2006 impala ss. the car was purchased used with approximately 12k miles, in early 2009 at 62k the transmission failed, stranding my family on the pa turnpike. in january 2011 at 101k we had to replace the transmission again. luckily we purchased a gm power-train transmission and it came with a 3yr warranty. the failure symptoms were identical for each occurrence. 1st the transmission would occasionally shudder while shifting. eventually it would shudder and predictably slip when maintaining a speed at or near 1800 rpm. this was especially noticeable driving up hills. finally the car would not move while the engine rpm spiked when pressing the accelerator pedal. the entire failure period was around 1000 miles from the 1st sign that the transmission was having difficulty to shifting to the final failure. the transmission appears to reach very high temperatures and has a long cool off period. when replacing the power steering gear i noticed that the exhaust and engine were cool to the touch, but the transmission remained warm through out the repair. thank for your attention in this matter. *tr

2006 chevy ss impala started having issues with the dash board readings, the car would not start because it would show the car was in drive when it was not, there was no readings for the speed, all electrical readings were out of control, finally the abs would not work and then the car would not start at all and had to be towed in. the abs module at only 75,000 miles had to be replaced. this is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed by chevy, the repair needed put me in a serious driving safety concern and chevy should not say sorry this is no longer under warranty and we can't do anything for you. *tr

I am writing to complain about the 4t65e-hd transmission in general motor's lineup of v8 powered w-body platform cars. i have experienced many issues of this transmission slipping and hesitating on acceleration from a stop. i have been experiencing the issue for about 30k miles now. the car is not beaten, or driven hard at all. all my routine maintenance has been done. i first took it to the dealer to complain about the slipping transmission, and even though the tech felt the transmission issue, i was told that unless the transmission is throwing a code, there is nothing that they could do for me. i have put about $500 into work on this transmission so far with minimum success. i have flushed the transmission totally, which seemed to have fixed the transmission for about a week. another thing that i attempted per the recommendation of a gm master tech was to change the valve body. which i did and it corrected the issue for 3 days. now the transmission is slipping when driving on the highway at a constant speed/rpm.. almost like it feels the motor is misfiring. i have checked the fluid level, and the fluid. the level is fine and the fluid is not burnt. i feel that gm needs to step up and rectify the problem of these garbage transmissions. i have owned 2 other cars with the same transmission (95 monte carlo z34 and a 01 pontiac gtp). both vehicles experienced these same issues and the transmissions blew up. why would gm continue to use such a weak major component. i know of 100+ other v8 w-body owners experiencing these same issues. *tr

Transmission has been rebuilt once, then subsequently replaced with a remanufactured unit from general motors. this remanufactured transmission is now displaying anomalous behavior. prior to each failure, the transmission exhibited a variety of incorrect behavior, including rapid torque converter clutch locking and unlocking, slipping and revving from a stop, without the car moving, then suddenly slamming into gear with the car moving away from rest. the most recent issue has been an oscillation on 4-3 downshifts at approximately 60 mph, as well as excessive transmission heat build-up with the torque converter unlocked. the first time the transmission displayed odd behavior, which was torque converter lock and unlock at cruising speeds, dealer drove the car acknowledged the problem, and upon disassembly, found torque converter clutch material in the pan. they rebuilt the transmission with new soft parts and replaced the converter. vehicle had 59,000 and this was all performed under warranty. about 23,000 miles later, when pulling away from a stop, the engine would rev up momentarily, but the car would not move. it would then slam into gear and move off. dealer confirmed issue, disassembled, and determined that the torque converter clutch had again failed. dealer replaced transmission with a remanufactured unit. this was all done under warranty. vehicle had approximately 86000 miles at this time. immediately upon receiving car back after replacement of transmission, noted oscillation on 4-3 downshifts, as well as much higher transmission temperatures with converter unlocked (about 40 degrees higher), as well as excessive looseness of the torque converter. returned to dealer, who claimed all was normal. since that time, warranty has expired. the oscillation and heat issues have worsened, and the car is now being serviced at an independent shop and having a partial rebuild. *tr

We purchased a used 2006 chevy impala in 2008 with 21,000 miles and now we have just over 55,000. after more use in down hill driving about a few months of owning this car and using more brake the steering wheel will wobble from the front rotor(s) warping. i talked to a chevy dealer service man and he said that chevrolet made them out of softer metal and that is normal, they should straighten out and work properly. yea right. i should of had him drive it down hill at 75 mph and see if he craps his pants. a year ago i had the rotors resurfaced and that cured the problem till now 09/01/2010 and the problem starts again. i think the rotors are made from soft metal and is a manufacture defect. i would take that to the bank. upon inspection of the rotors the right front had some different coloring from the heat and warpage i think. i have been my own mechanic since i was a teenager. i am now in my 50's and it seems the metal is too soft. now just get chevrolet to admit the error and replace them with good rotors by the standards of safety not chevrolets idea of a bandaide. *tr

I have a 2006 chevy impala lt 3.9 with 55,000 miles just had to put water pump 2by pass hose and bottom hose bill came to around $470. this car has been babied ever since new and with top notch service performed regularly. besides this problem the tire air sensors are also a joke replaced two of them at around $70.00 each. still don't work properly. while i'm on roll i should mention the remote start, unlock, system is also a joke, took it to a dealer told them it would not work anything, they came back to me two hours later and said the module in drivers door was bad, two remotes ,module, calibration and $917.00 and they would have me on my way. ha ha. told them to put it back together and i was paying my 80.00 for the time spent and leaving. as i was going to my car the service rep. said when they put it back together it began working, everything but tire pressure info. i have read other people have remote problems just wondered how common this problem is. also i cannot believe my water pump went bad @55,000 miles. *tr

Driving on interstate highway in a rain storm - the windshield wipers abruptly stopped. dealer installed new wiper transmission 8-23-10. i asked if this happened very often. dealer said after i called, they had another call for the very same thing. this was a very dangerous situation. *tr

My 2006 chevy impala ss was recalled for a power steering oil line leak. when it was on the lift, it was discovered that the oil line on the transmission also leaked. the line leaked where the rubber line was crimped onto a metal line. the dealer stated that they had replaced several of these. it was not covered by warranty. since there was no oil dripping onto my concrete driveway, i assume that it leaks under pressure. this is a defective part. *tr

2006 chevy impala caught on fire, and was completely destroyed. i called gm to notifiy them, but they made it impossible for it to be investigated. our insurance company gave us a check for the car, but we still had to pay over $2000 to pay off the car. the fire started after the car lost power on the highway outside wisconsin dells. the fire started in the engine , and only took 13 minutes to completely destroy the car. at the time we were the only ones to have this happen, but the more checking around the more reports i see. me, my husband, and our two children were in the car when the fire started. how many engine fires does there have to be before gm is held responsible? *cn

2006 impala - during the winter of 2009 i had to rev the engine for it to put out heat. during the winter of 2009 car overheats unexpectedly and now during the spring 2010, car continues to overheat unexpectedly. took it to an independent mechanic when the overheating first started. the replaces antifreeze and hoses. it helped for a while. *tr

Gm 2006 impala transmission failure. upon initial operation transaxle shudders, stutters, and stalls upon acceleration demand. failure creates an unanticipated and warning-less slow-down of my vehicle directly in front of other accelerating vehicles. a safety hazard results from possible rear-ending by following motorists that have to be unaware the car in front of them has stuttered and slowed down. it also is a problem for drivers as they cannot accelerate or pass other cars, and cannot safely or confidently evade road objects/debris/potholes. a review of this transaxle problem indicates many gm motorists share the same problems and voice the same concerns. *tr

Rear window defogger-- when we had a recent snow storm (one of many), i used my rear window defogger (defroster) only to find out it wasn't clearing the window of fog or melting the blowing snow. this prevented me from seeing the vehicles behind me except from my side mirrors. the lamp on the control lights normally, but there is no voltage going to the rear defogger grid connectors (on each side of window). there is no separate fuse going to this device, only a relay in the forward fuse box. the problem turned out to be a burnt pin on the large connector block under the kick panel on the passenger side. as a new connector (both halves) would boost the cost from $261 to $411, at the dealers suggestion, i had them jumper the wire from each side of the connector instead of replacing the connector. (as this connector is there for assembly purposes only, why not jumper it.) i believe this problem was due to either a poor connection of the pins during manufacturing (high resistive connection) or improper sized pins that are not heavy enough to carry the current. as this connector is not normally accessible to the owner/operator and does not move, it is not a "wear item" and thus was a manufacturing issue. my service writer tells me that this has happened on at least one other impala that he has seen in his gm shop. why isn't this power grid fused as it used to be in earlier impala's? is the pin the proper size for the current going through the pin? this needs to be checked out before it causes a fire in a car. i have a photo available of this connector if needed. the old connector and pins are still in my car. *tr

I owned a 2006 impala with 100,000 miles on it. on 11-11-2009 i was driving to work and all of a sudden the traction control came on. i had to slow down to 45 miles an hour and cross 3 lanes in heavy traffic to get to the right hand lane. at that point the engine completely shut down and started smoking. i got out of the car and there were flames coming from the front driver side of the engine. within 3 minutes the whole engine was completely engulfed in flames. car is completely totaled and i owe more on it than it is worth. luckily i have gap insurance but finding a new car without a sizeable deposit is nearly impossible. this was an error that gm should have known about and i should have been notified of this. car fires just don't happen out of nowhere especially when it's an electrical fire. *tr

Steering: i started hearing a noise - like a clunking in, at the same time i would feel it in my steering wheel...when i would turn left or right, it would clunk and kind of shake or vibrate....it got worse and worse and every time i would turn the car to the left or right, it would clunk louder and could hear it and feel it. i went to the local auto repair, and they found that they had to replace the intermediate steering shaft....this part cost $120.00 plus the labor to install. *tr

On many late model chevrolet and gm cars, there is a clunking issue on the intermediate steering shafts. i have taken mine to the dealer and at that time the fix was to repack the shaft with grease or put a new one on. this fi is at the owners expense. gm and chevrolet are very experienced with this issue as doing an internet search will bring up many articles. there are at least two redesign of this component. this component is not even a scheduled maintenance item. the fact that there are design iterations but still no recall is ludicrous. if my owners manual said grease the steering shaft every 10000 miles, i can understand no recall. but chevy has never stated it to be a maintenance item and the fact there are redesigns says there is and issue that needs to be looked after. *tr

I am a deputy sheriff and was driving a 2006 chevy impala when i lost control of the vehicle ending up in a ditch. during the collision my airbag deployed fracturing my sternum from top to bottom along with breaking a rib. since the collision i received my mri result finding i also have two compacted disks in my neck and a compacted disk in my lower back. i am an average size man 5'9" tall 190 pounds very physically active and was wearing my seat belt and a bullet proof vest. the "black box" in the vehicle showed the impact was at 11 mph. according to my doctor the break to my sternum would take a massive force which was also verified by my pulmonary specialist.. i have investigated hundreds of motor vehicle accidents as a peace officer and this is the first time i heard of an airbag breaking someone's sternum or rib(s). i strongly feel if a elderly person, teenager, woman or short individual would more seriously be injured if they receive the impact i did. *tr

I have a 2006 impala with multiple problems. the main problem is the heater occasionally will not produce heat unless you are revving engine. problem is that the cooling system is designed defectively such that it is prone to air pockets. if air pocket develops, chevy has issued a service bulletin detailing a complicated procedure whereby the system has to be drained and antifreeze then put back in system. if a mechanic is not familiar with this service bulletin, he may tell you about problems with head gasket, incorrect antifreeze mixture, etc. this problem may reoccur everytime the closed system is opened if not then closed as per the service bulletin instructions. *tr

I own a 2006 chevrolet impala with goodyear eagle ls2 tires as original equipment (m-s p225/55r17 95t, dot m643 bhdr 3905). i was advised that all tires on the vehicle had a defect which caused the tread to separate from the tire in the same spot. the tires still had from 7/32 to 9/32 tread remaining. having taken off one tire to inspect it properly, the defect was found to be so bad that the dealer would not remount the tire on to the vehicle under california law. at the direction of goodyear, the defective tires were then taken to be inspected by a goodyear dealer and the defect was again confirmed. the identified defect could cause failure of a tire at any time without advance warning. as a result all tires of this manufacturing lot should be recalled immediately. *tr

In january 2007 i purchased a 2006 chevy impala and approximately 6 months later i had my first problem with the car. first problem: "service tire monitor system" (7/07) i took the car to the dealership and the sensors were replaced for free in two of the tires. i have since experienced this same problem over and over again. i did not have this fixed at all in 2008 because the dealership wants to charge me for the replacement of the sensors. i just let the monitor continue to blink on and off. i had it replaced in 4/09 due to other standard replacements. second problem: heating (found problem 10/07) to get heat in the car your foot must be on the peddle and the car must be moving. the moment you take your foot off the peddle to press the brake, the heater goes out and the air turns cold. this problem was fixed in 4/09, when the other replacement parts were fixed. third problem: on and off jerking (9/07) if you are at a stop light and it turns green. you press on the gas tank but the car does not go anywhere for a moment. then it jerks and takes off. it seems like there is a delay in the thinking process like the car is not aware it should go when you press the gas. in 4/09 i addressed this problem with the dealership but nothing could be found wrong with the car and of course it did not happen when they took it for a test drive. *tr

I was driving my vehicle to work in heavy traffic in the middle lane of major michigan highway (i-75). as i headed into a right curve on the highway, my vehicle began to make a very loud squealing noise under the hood and my steering wheel pulled out of my hands, and the vehicle began to pull back straight. it became very difficult to steer my vehicle to the right, so i pull out of traffic as quickly as possible. once i was able to pull off to the shoulder of the highway, i shut my vehicle off. i took my car to the closest chevrolet dealership for an inspection. the service department explained to me that the power steering line had burst, causing a rapid loss of power steering fluid and lack of vehicle control. they replaced the defective line at a total cost of $438. i reluctantly paid for the repairs after finding out this defect was not covered by the "gm certified 100,000 mile powertrain warranty". what i fail to understand is why would a product that serves such a vital safety feature in a vehicle, not be held to higher quality standards and be covered for a longer period of time. based on the recent number of incidents reported by consumers for this same year, make and model, i feel this type of defect needs to recalled by gm before serious injuries or lives are lost. i don't think i have been more panicked behind the wheel than i was at that time. *tr

While driving in the rain i had too stop quickly at a stop light applying the brakes significantly all i did is skid the abs never worked and no indication light came on i then had too stop slow in the snow same scenario. *tr

I was driving vehicle and went to turn onto my street and power steering failed causing loss of steering and came close to hitting a utility pole. upon inspection i noticed hydraulic piping for the power steering had sprung a leak. in searching for a bulletin i discovered #060232014. nhtsa campaign#10020769. i have set an appointment at a dealership to repair. however,this incident could have had fatal outcome. i believe that this goes beyond a service bulletin and should be further invesigated. loss of life should not be the determining factor. *tr

I took my car to the shop the other day to have it checked because it stopped getting hot and i was putting antifreeze in it about once a week. it would only get hot if i was pressing on the gas or was driving. they told me it was leaking from my head gasket and that they have seen this problem with these cars often. they told me to take it to a chevy dealer and they should fix it. im going to go to the chevy dealer and see if they will fix it or not. *tr

When the car is running but in a stopped position, ie., at a stop light, the heater blows cold air - on any of the dial options, i.e, feet, face, combination, etc. when driving, it then heats, blows warm air. when i had my car into the dealer last year (mahowalds motors in new prague where i purchased the car) for the normal scheduled oil change, they were told about this. the service manager pulled up a bulletin from march of 2008 and it stated that this make/model car would have this problem. it told the dealership how to fix it (no parts involved - just taking off some hoses as there was air bubbles or blockage that was causing this - and they wanted some where around $186.00 to do this.). i asked why this wouldn't have been done when they knew about this, that this make of car was going to have this problem, and i was told that as long as we didn't bring it up, they were not fixing it as it was not a "recall", just a bulletin letting them know it will happen. something is wrong with this process when a dealership or a huge company like chevrolet knows there is a flaw but sits back and keeps their mouth shut about it and then when confronted the customer is told it will take $186.00 to fix. i was also told that because there were no 'parts' involved in this repair, that this was the reason it cost this much.....it almost makes it sound like, if there do not have any parts cost to fall back on, then they boost up the labor charges. bottom line is, the bulletin came out in march of 2008, and my car was in every 3000 miles for the oil change, this 'error' repair should have been taken care of and not 'hidden' in the backroom. this is my complaint. i have talked to the service manager at this dealership (where i purchased the car new), a couple of times, and he said he can't and won't do anything about it....i asked him to call the key company on this and he said that isn't part of his job. where does customer service end that it isn't 'part of his job. *tr

I have only had my car for 9 months and have had trouble from the beginning, the heater will not heat up and when it does it goes cold unless you are pressing the gas and will not defrost and it keeps losing fluid so they replace the radiator cap.it has a bad shimmy and a popping in the steering wheel it has less then 45,000 i really think they need to check in on all the problems people are having with the 2006 impala. *tr

On friday, jan. 23, 2009 i experienced a loss of steering on my 2006 impala ltz mileage 45,500. while driving on a dual lane hwy. when the traffic light allowed i tried to turn left, steering very stiff i pulled over, raised hood saw smoke, called dealer was told could not get repairs until monday. i called tow truck as it was covered under my extended warranty. i asked about a loaner car, none available, extended warranty paid all but deductible. i picked up the car on monday seemed okay, after leaving work place tuesday afternoon, lost my steering again was able to drive back to dealer about five miles, was told the hose hadn't seated properly took an hour for repairs this time. today stiffness returning. will look for another car soon, lost confidence in gmc products. please recall for this problem before somebody gets hurt. *tr

I pulled out of the driveway and the car's power steering was limited. i thought it was just because it was a very cold morning, and it started working properly. i checked the fluid when i stopped and it seemed fine. a week later, i pull out of the driveway and the same thing! my husband checked the fluid and it was low. when i returned home, not only was there a bunch of fluid on the driveway, but you could see how i pulled out and the stream of fluid of where i went. thank goodness, i learned to drive on a jeep that had no power steering!!! if it had been one of my teenagers, it would have been a different story. from what i have read, this is a major issue and chevrolet needs to step up and place a recall on these hoses!!! *tr

Last march, 2008 power steering went out of car, so took to mechanic. after paying over $400 to repair hose and power steering pump on car that had only 30,000 miles. now in february of 2009, less than one year later, i have the same problem with the power steering going out again. i see that there are alot of complaints about this same thing. i think gm should do something about it and launch a recall to fix the problem before someone gets hurt seriously or worse killed. *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet impala which required the front brakes to have the rotors machined and replaced 3 times in the first 33,000 miles. i was told that this was caused by the use of inferior metal for the rotors which could not withstand the heat generated by braking, especially when exiting from a highway. additionally, the front outer tie rods required replacement in the first 65,000 miles of driving because they had become worn out which caused the front tires to be loose or "wobbly." *tr

First the wheel had a shimmy in it. the rotors were replaced and new brakes. that wasn't it . it was the front ball joint. 2. car wouldn't heat up. radiator cap replaced at dealer for 45 dollars. rear defogger quit working. 4. power steering out now and it feels like the rack and pinion going to fail. car no longer under warranty now with 64k. i am tired of this lemon. *tr

Without warning, the power steering "went out" on my car as i was driving down the road. i sensed the stiffness in the steering, was on a very straight road, and was able to slow the car and bring it to a stop. had i been on a road with curves, i would most certainly have had a bad accident. i had the car towed to a dealership for repair, and when i picked it up i noted this on the description: "customer states car has no power steering. cause: improperly sealed. " further: "diagnose and replace split power steering cooler pipe hose and per bulletin 060232014." i don't know if this is a reference that is strictly "how to repair this problem" or if this indicates that this is a noted problem. if so, it should be a recall! my car has less than 30,000 miles and has been driven very conservatively. if this problem has occurred with any frequency, then it is a dangerous condition that requires a recall. when the power steering goes out completely and without warning, and you're on the expressway or a road with curves, a serious traffic accident is bound to occur. *tr

I own a 2006 chevrolet impala ls with 45,500 miles on it. in december 2008, i experienced wobbling in my front left tire. the outer tie rod was broken and had to be replaced. the tires were severely and unevenly worn, requiring a new set of tires due to bad alignment, and now i am hearing and feeling vibrations and clunking in the steering column. a google search revealed dozens of similar and recurrent steering column and alignment problems and complaints with both the 2006 and 2007 chevrolet impala. the replacement of the steering column is only a temporary fix. it comes back. i did not purchase an extended warranty, but gm does not regard this as being covered in the extended warranty outside of 36,000, anyway. several have complained of steering failures and lock-ups which resulted in both injuries as well as damage to property and other vehicles. this is clearly a problem that can have fatal results if not corrected. consumers should not have to pay to correct this problem. replacement of the steering column would incur an out-of-pocket cost exceeding $1,000. please issue a recall, if not for me, then for the people for whom the problem has not begun to occur and spare them injury and/or death. *tr

Pulling out of driveway steering was hard pulled back in and noticed fluid on the pavement which ended up being power steering fluid. inspected under the hood and found the leak was coming from the return hose from the power steering pump. took to local chevrolet dealer and it was fixed. after i had my car back for 6 days the same hose blew a hole in it in a different spot. took to the dealer two days ago and they replaced it again picking up tomorrow. i constantly hear about other having the same problem on chevy's mainly impalas' and it seems to be primarily the 2006 model. this is ridiculous that there is no recall on this. i've called gm and they are no help at all and seem to just ignore this ongoing problem. something has to be done about this before someone is seriously hurt in an accident due to the loss of power steering. *tr

While driving on the publicway, power steering cease to operate, steering became almost nil. this is the first time that this happen, there was no prior warning, steering just went out. vehicle was taken in to have power steering hose replaced. *tr

The right and left rear doors are inoperable. i opened the door and when i attempted to close the door it would not shut. the jam was unhooked and when i attempted to open the door again it would not open. this happened with both sides of the door. if an accident were to occur the backseat passengers would be unable to get out of the vehicle. *tr

I purchased the 2006 impala in 11/2006 when stopping the steering and front end shakes and vibrates. 1st the keyless remotes stop working which included my automatic start not working that happened 12/7. i am a trooper so i waited took my car to the chevy dealer 4/08 and they said there was a recall on the system so they fixed that and my tire monitoring system(which went out again on 12/1/08). my seatbelts wont lock in you have to force it hard several times and then still comes out on both the passenger and drivers side. my rear left door stop wrkg 6/08 1st the door would not close now it does not open at all. on 12/21/08 the power steering went out while driving at 55mph on the expressway. also the heat stop working and the rear defrost 12/16/08 and it is freezing in chicago. took car to dealership and of course the warranty was expired so i was stuck paying the $300 bill for the power steering. my husband refused to pay the 400.00 for them to replace the thermostat and thermostat gasket. well two days later car is back in the shop because now 1/3/09 the water pump is leaking waiting on a callback now from the authorized mechanic with the final report on what all is wrong with this car that just came from the other authorized shop on 12/21. mind u the car was only driven like 4 miles b4 the other problems started happening. i have had it with this car. i will send in more information when i get the final verdict on the death trap from the authorized mechanic when he calls me back today 1/3/08. *tr

Battery died. my car is an 2006. i work approximately 10 miles from work going and coming. i purchased my car in february 2007. in august 2008 by battery died. i had to purchase a new one for 89.00. i believe something in the car is causing the batteries to die in the car as i have knowledge of at least 4 other people with impala that have also had to have them replaced in a little over a year time period. *tr

When applying brakes on long incline car's front-end and including the steering wheel vibrate very badly. gm dealership has made 6 attempts to repair without success. gm felt they could do nothing else to rectify the problem. cash settlement was made. we still have what feels like a dangerous situation. don't know what else to do and would appreciate any suggestions. the problem began shortly after purchasing the car. *tr

During march 2008 the power steering pump kept breaking on the 2006 impala, we had to take it in 5 times during march through april to repair it, and now december 5th 2008, the same problem occurred again, it could of been dangerous if the power steering faulted during driving, and a crash could of been caused because of the power steering. *tr

Recall on something in the brain of the car (it's computer).about 2 weeks later car started losing power on the freeway going twenty five and the rpm's as high as it could go in the red, the car completely shut off after making a loud noise rebuild the transmission due to an ?electrical? problem. they did not replace the transmission on my new car 1 week later car would not turn off! key out and it was still running kill battery several times speakers are not properly working along with the factory alarm 2 months later the car did it again i can't even get the car to lock period, every time i manually lock the doors, they automatically unlock i'm downtown los angeles with my children in the car and it totally just over heats and cuts of in all of five seconds with a big city bus directly behind me. this starts july 3rd, 2008 the car will not cut off, not even when my husband pulled its fuse, period, it just kept running till the battery died and the car lost all power. july 10th, 2008 they call me to pick my car up, it's ready again!!! july 11th, 2008 they had to tow it back because the car overheated, then would not turn off and the engine stated it had low power, what ever that means...grrrrhhhh!!! august 27th, 2008 the car would not shut off, even once we pulled the fuse, the engine started shaking uncontrollable like it was going to jump out and the dash board was reading all types of crazy messages!!! this car really scares me! i'm looking for an attorney to help me with this, i can't do it anymore, this was 8 times too many and now that i'm less then 10k from my warranty being i feel like s & j has been scamming me!!!! *tr

My driver's side sun visor was falling down and would not stay up. the company replaced it for free. however, the passenger side is falling as well and my warranty is expired. this blocking view not to mention unattractive. i have an otherwise beautiful car. *tr

Moaning noise when turning at low speeds, and loud shrieking noise when accelerating. thought it was power steering pump &/or alternator. i look under hood and ground ps fluid on ground, ps fluid was leaking out of the bellows boot on the rack and pinion. took to dealer and was told the spool seal and the input seal were leaking in the rack and pinion. luckily i was able to get the rack replaced under warranty. but 1 month later, the new rack developed a leak from the same input seal that was bad on the oe rack. dealer replaced it again under warranty. *tr

Brought to a dealer that advised the front seal was leaking they repaired it and gave the vehicle back. then the rear defroster stopped working and she still smelled the burning. the vehicle was brought to the dealer again and they advised that the wiring harness was melted and that they were surprised that the vehicle did not catch fire. the dealer replaced the wiring and she still experienced the burning smell. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they contacted the manufacturer who advised on how to repair the issue. the contact does not feel safe driving the vehicle until the source of the problem is found. the failure mileage was 22000. vs

1/24/2008 and 2/27/2008 my power steering system failed. once entering a highway and once entering a bridge; both times i narrowly escaped accident and injury. t he first time i was towed to bast chevrolet in seaford ny (my dealer). bast said the problem was the return hose of the power steering pump, and that there was a bulletin on problems with this pump. i was told the hose was replaced and everything was fine. the second time after being towed to 2 dealers(the first said he had no time to look at it.) i was told that it was the return hose on the power steering pump. when i told him it had just been replaced last month, he told me the first dealer never replaced it; he only added a clamp. the first dealer when contacted repeated that the hose was replaced but when i told him about the second dealer he changed his story saying the second dealer was right, and that only the clamp was changed. my copy of the repair invoice says they changed the hose. *tr

Vehicle has bouncy/shuddery ride driving over 35mph. looked at by 2 different shops, one said it was a bad tire and replaced under tire warranty, the other said it was separation of tread (bad tire). all four tires replaced with brand new tires (out of my own pocket) and the ride did not improve, then the shop says that it is "bumps in the road" even though there is a distinct difference between a bump in the road (felt from front tires and back tires) and the shudder of the vehicle. *tr

My wife was rear ended by an 04 lincoln while traveling 40mph. this turned her 06 chevy impala into oncoming traffic and a head on collision with a ford ranger going in opposite direction. ranger doing 40-45 mph, impala doing 40mph. my impala is being repaired and is not totaled. my wife was the driver and was injured in this crash. she has neck, back, and shoulder pain as well as head aches. air bag never deployed!! i have pics of impala showing dead on / head on impact. *tr

Lost the power steering. lose of all power steering fluid on home driveway. had the car towed to the dealer. dealer said a hose came off and replaced the hose and clamp. tow truck driver knew what the problem was when he viewed the fluid on the driveway. he said he has towed seven impalas in the last month for the same problem. *tr

I noticed the front right tire was wearing extensively on the outside. first i checked the tire pressure and it was at the proper amount. then i went to have the tires rotated and was told to have the alignment check by the tire serviceman. then i went to have the tires aligned and the technician said the tie rod ends had to be replaced because they were worn out and loose. i personally observed the front wheels and they both were extreme loose. the car has been regularly serviced by the chevrolet local dealer and only had 37,500 miles on it. i had it serviced at approximately 35,500 miles by the chevrolet dealer. i took the car to the chevrolet dealer, who agreed that both the tie rods ends needed replacing and that he thought they could be replaced with chevrolet paying for them. both the alignment technician and the chevrolet dealer service person told me that the reason the tie rod ends were worn out was that they contained no grease fittings and further that the ones chevrolet finally replaced the worn out ones they do not have grease fittings. this car is a 2006 chevrolet impla. i still am going to have to replace what was the front tire(s) before this discover due to this manufacturing defect. further,i am expecting to have to replace the current new ones which have no grease fittings within 30,000 or again risk my safety and excessive and unnecessary tire wear. i am told by service people and technicians that i can purchase aftermarket (non-general motors tie rod ends) that would have grease fittings. this lack of grease fittings is obviously a very serious manufacturing defect, that endangers the lives of hundreds of thousands of chevrolet impala owners and their passengers and others on the roads. i am concerned about this what appears to me to be a manufacturing defect. *tr

Lt re her 2006 chevy impala lt having problems with a vibration and the car jumping on numerous occasions leading to replacement of tires; would like to know if nhtsa knows anything about problems with tires. *kb the tires were replaced with another brand of tires, because one of the tires had excessive road force. however, the vibration continued. *jb

I am a police officer and have had several occasions while on traffic stops, that my assigned 2006 impala has rolled backwards after i had gotten out of the car to approach a traffic violator; i had to jump back in and put it back in park.. on 10/ 04/07 this car almost cost me my life. i blocked an entrance ramp and when i got out of the car i stood by the open driver door. the car jumped into gear and backed over me. i was drug backwards and could not free myselfas i was being helplessly dragged under my car. when the car went into the median it dug my body into the dirt. i was able to roll from underneath the car. i then jumped back in and stopped the car from crossing the expressway. i have been on the streets as a beat officer for over 21 years and have never had anything like this happen. i spoke with another officer and he also has had the same problem while on traffic stops. i was advised by fleet management that there has been one other incident reported. my patrol car was towed on oct 8 and later i was advised by fleet management that gm reps looked at the car and found nothing wrong. fleet management personnel refuse to give me any information as for a contact person with gm. note -as of 10/19/07 they still have the car under lock and key. i sustained road rash, bruising, cervical strain, and a possible fracture in my back. i have contacted my local fraternal order of police president and he has been gathering information as to several other officers that have had their assigned 2006 impala go out of gear and strike objects. in addition they had been charged with the accidents and points assessed. per my fop president an investigation is being done to remove those officers points and diciplinary action per my unfortunate incident. my concern now is for the safety of the citizens on a national level, while these chevy impalas are being used for public safety. *tr

Own 2006 chevy impala, noticed since began lease with vehicle that seatbelt doesn't always lock. driving on 9/12/07, had to slam on the brakes to avoid a vehicle running a red light, i flew forward into the steering wheel because the seat belt was not tight and locked. took vehicle to dealer the next day and they acknowledged the issue and replaced the seat belt parts. *tr updated 09/17/07. *jb

Filed previous complaint, #10202892. this was in reference to my seat belt retractor not locking on my 2006 impala. the new retractor the dealer put in my vehicle, also does not lock. i have already hit the steering wheel once, do i have to be seriously injured. called chevy again and they stated they were sorry for the inconvenience. they stated to take it back to the dealer and have yet another one put in. *jb

My car is in the shop today because of the tire monitor system. this is the fifth time that it has been in the shop for this problem. around late january i had it in the shop for a rust spot close to the sun roof. also someone who was looking at my car told me it had swirl marks on it because it apparently had been buffed before i purchased my 2006 impala ss, in june of 2006. *jb

The 2006 chevrolet impala had a technical bulletin on a power steering hose i was never notifed off. the hose exploded, and the car could not move. it was towed to the 1st dealership. they said it was fixed, but it would not steer out of the bay. they flushed the power steering unit, and with days it would not steer properly. i took it to another dealership, which after two visits, determined it needed a new power steering pump. then the accelerator stuck to the floor while turning. the car was taken to the dealership and a new accelrator was installed. the vehicle was returned to me again and athe steering went out, this time, i nearly hit a telephone pole while turning. the dealership took the car in and replaced the rack and pinion. the car again did not steer properly, and i nearly hit a phone pole on the way home. at one point the second dealership put over 200 miles on the vehicle. gm said the carwas. in operating order . t had less than 17,000 miles on it, and demanded i pick up the vehi or be charged storage fees. i have nearly wrecked the car due to mechanical defects on three seperate occasions. *ak

Leased 2006 impala lt 3/06. 2/07-first thing that happened was power steering line blew while driving on highway at 70 mph. had towed vehicle to dealership and it was fixed. they left all the fluid all over engine and brakes. shortly after, experienced clanking noise from front of vehicle. took to dealer first time, they said they couldn't find the cause of the problem, could be left over power steering fluid from the blowout, causing noise on moving parts. also noticed tires were wearing. got oil change and 3rd tire rotation for vehicle. tires still wearing in front and noise becoming more prominent in front. took back to dealer, said it was a trans axle problem, and was also causing an alignment problem. they corrected the trans axle problem under warranty, but said the alignment and excessive wear on tires was my problem. this didn't seem right, a problem on the vehicle caused another problem, but it was my responsibility. they said they alignment was ok now. i asked if they checked and they said no, it would be okay since the trans axle problem was corrected. they said i could complain, they just follow the rules from up above. *ak

Automobile has a bouncy ride. front right axle has been replaced as well as tires replaced. ride is still bouncy, especially when accelerating through first and second gear. *ak

2006 chevy impala ss has had several mechanical issues most recently flat tires. the first incident was a front right tire loosing air slowly. today the front left tire went flat suddenly and on the interstate. the damaged section of tire was on the inside and appeared to have been punctured by another piece of the suspension. the dealer ship insists that i need to pay for repairs everytime. the car is an unbelievable inconvenience. *jb

The ignition switch will not allow me to take the key out. it is still in the on position. the windows will not go up. the engine light is on.the service airbag light is on.the service tiremonitor system light is on and i just took it to the shop last week for the fourth time for these same problems.we've only had the car 5 months and this cointinues to be a problem.

Side air bag did not deploy. had a car impact my car on the drivers side at the driver's door. glass in door shattered. driver only suffered a small scrape on back of shoulder.*ak

Tl*- the contact stated that every once in a while when she drove the 2006 chevrolet impala with(11718 failure mileage she heard a pinging noise, but the vehicle drove without a problem. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who needed to duplicate the pinging, but could not. the vehicle was taken to a dealer on another occasion and they replaced the rack and pinion, and since then the contact had not heard the pinging noise since. the current mileage was 12000.*ak

Tl* - the contact called regarding a 2006 chevrolet impala. the contact was traveling at 45 mph, the road conditions were snowy, the contact's vehicle hit a patch of ice and the vehicle began to fishtail. the contact lost control of the vehicle, struck an embankment, and went down into a ditch. the contact stated the seat belt pretensionser did not engage. the contact sustained severe injuries, and was transported to a hospital. the vehicle was towed to a body shop. a police report was filed. *ak updated 03/07/07. *jb

Tl*- the contact stated that the computer system on the vehicle is not reading the tire pressure correctly. the keyless entry doesn't function correctly either. in order for the keyless entry to function correctly, contact has to be directly in front of the vehicle. the contact has taken his vehicle to the dealership at least 5 times and he continues to have the same issues with his vehicle. contact currently has the vehicle at the dealership and they explained to him that they won't be able to repair the vehicle until further the manufacture provides information on how to perform the repair. the contact has copies of the invoices if needed.

At 9000 mi. a loud whinnying noise in the engine occurred. dealer discovered the steering fluid was low due to a lower hose leaking at a clamp. the clamp was replaced and after a short while (about 25 mi.) the pump noise subsided. maybe this will require a recall due to a nhsta report of a blown hose. *jb

I purchased a 2006 chevrolet impala ltz in december of 2005 and approximately 3 months ago i started to receive a message from the driver information center that the tire pressure monitor system needed to be serviced. i have taken the vehicle to our local chevrolet dealer on at least five occasions for this problem and it is still not fixed. the dealership has more than fulfilled it's part of the bargain in that they have re-programmed the system on at least two occasions and have replaced the entire instrument cluster at the suggestion of the factory rep. individual sensor on the problem wheel, (right rear), has also been replaced, all to no avail. there have been numerous contacts between the dealership and the manufacturer during this time. the last that i heard after having the vehicle at the shop for two days was that they were waiting for a call back from a service rep and that the manufacturer was considering replacing the entire right wheel and hub. this was about three weeks ago and i still have this problem. *jb

My complaint probably does not warrant a recall, but should be handled by consumer notification. my 2006 chevy impala has developed a fuel related problem that causes the check engine light to activate. this is caused by the use of e-85 fuel. the computer detects high alcohol content in the fuel. the dealer was able to solve the problem with both a software update and by flushing out the e-85 from the fuel system and resetting the computer. the cause of this problem was lack of proper instruction, from the dealer, in the use of e-85. i have been instructed that after filling the gas tank with e-85, the vehicle must be driven a minimum of 11 miles, before shutting off the engine. this gives the sensor in the fuel system sufficient time to adjust to the fuel. this needs to be done every time the vehicle is switched from conventional e-10 gas, to e-85. i was unaware of this procedure, until after the problem had occurred. gm should notify all consumers who have purchased 2006 and 2007 vehicles equipped with flex-fuel engines of this requirement. after the problem occurs, the dealer needs to perform the reset procedure for the fuel computer. this procedure requires approximately three hours. it is not a serious defect, but it is unnecessary. the dealers should inform customers, when the vehicles are delivered, of this procedure. *jb

Grinding when the steering column was turned. i contacted the dealer the car is still under warranty. they said gmc was aware of a steering column problem that caused the owner of the vehicle to have the steering column greased at about 30,000 mile intervals. i contacted gmc and they confirmed that yes there was a problem in some of the impalas but it was covered in the 30,000 mile warranty. i asked what about after that they said since it was not all cars it would then be a maintenance item. dealers are charging about $100.00 to grease the steering column. i am concerned because this car is just now 1 year old and if there are problems with the steering i would like them permanently fixed. gmc said since no deaths have been caused and it was only some cars, that is was not really worth their time to have them permanently fixed. no on top of regular maintenance we must pay to have a default in the steering column fixed on a regular basis as long as we own the vehicle. what about individuals that cannot afford to have the vehicle fixed on a regular basis and it causes accidents? please look into this problem thank you for your time and effort. *nm

Car speeds up with no cruise control when i the hit brake it goes back to normal speed. it is an intermittent problem. car wants to stop at stop signs must step on gas to keep running. driving along car sometimes feel like its not getting gas and shakes and misses. air condition works sometimes blows cold then goes to hot air. i think this is unsafe. dealer can't find problems chevy won't do anything about it. this is a 2006 chev impala with 3.9 v6 engine 8400 miles on it . we bought car in may 2006 and problems started right away. *jb

Brake recall is not listed on site for impala 2006 ss.. i had a problem with my brakes which the recall corrected the problem. the upgrade is not completed car is harder to stop. gm and ted evens (cs department) from the chevy did not think of it has a big problem. however i can tell you my car will stop much better now. *jb

I purchased a 2006 chevy impala on march 1, 2006. it was purchased under the name of virginia brady. i got married in may of this year. i had my car in 3 times to fix the drivers window. it screeches like someone's finger nails on a black board. to me this is a big safety issue as when the window screeches when you put down the window. a person cringes and sometimes will close their eyes. i have to be very careful that i do not do this as it can cause an accident. the screeching happens when the car sits in the sun for a while. in cool weather it doesn't happen. the first time i took the car in was may 22, 2006. the report that i received from the service department seemed like i didn't know what i was talking about because i am a woman. the second time was june 8, 2006 and the last time was july 14, 2006. on july 14, i received a notice that this problem is a problem with a number of 2006 chevy impalas. i have the paper work that chevy issued on may 18, 2006 about this problem. now i am suppose to bring back my car and leave it again. why am i paying for a new car that seems to spend so much time in the service department because chevy doesn't know how to fix it. the next problem that i consider a safety problem is the driver's side read view mirror. i am a tall person so i didn't notice this before, all i noticed was a crack underneath the mirror when i backed into the drive way at home. now i found out that the mirror doesn't go to the right far enough for safety. if someone shorter than myself or someone who likes the seat up further than i do, they wouldn't be able to use the rear view mirror properly. today, sunday, august 27, 2006, i got a call from jason who works at the chevy service about me taking my car back to the service department for them to fix a problem that they don't know how to fix. *jb

At about 5000 miles on my 2006 chevrolet impala the power steering line blew out. had the vehicle towed into the chevrolet dealer where i purchased it, and the problem was fixed, slowly i might add. the car now has about 12,000 miles on it and i am noticing some noises in the steering. when the wheel is turned all the way to the right and gas is applied, it makes a weird clicking sound. this noise only happens when the wheel is turned to the right. i am trying to delay bringing the car to the shop, because of the inconvenience of not having my car. i understand that cars do have defects and just thought i would report this in case it is something serious. i would hate to have mine or someone else's steering go out during driving and someone get hurt. i really hope this is no big deal, but i think it's worth looking into. thank you so much for your time and may everyone have a safe and prosperous life. *jb

2006 chevrolet impala rear tires had a slow leak causing tires to go flat. *kb the vehicle was a rental. the day the vehicle was rented the consumer noticed instability in the rear end but assumed it was the way the vehicle was designed. each time the vehicle was driven the instability was noticed. a few days later the consumer noticed that the right rear tire was flat. upon further investigation it was determined that nails in the tire caused the slow leak. the rental agency lodged a claim against the consumer for the damaged tire. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated an object was dragging under the vehicle. an independent repair shop determined three of the four plastic clips that held on the heat shield were missing. the repair shop made a temporary fix with plastic ties. the vehicle was taken to the dealership who replaced the heat shield and fuel tank. *ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet impala. while making a turn at a low speed, the contact heard a noise emitting from the front of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the steering shaft needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 09e005000 (steering) but the vin was not included. the failure mileage was 68,000.

Ss model: the driver side visor would not stay in place and when i was inspecting it the metal piece connecting the visor to the roof was extremely hot. after driving more you could smell an electrical fire. i got home and when i opened the door the interior lights were flickering. i then noticed that the visor was actually burned and it burned the interior on the roof. i then pulled the circuit breakers for all interior lighting. it's not fixed yet. i've had nothing but problems with this car. two transmissions replaced, torque converter replaced, four batteries, water pump replaced, power steering pump replaced, engine mounting bolt replaced, windshield washer pump doesn't work, and the traction control/abs warning lights are mostly on. when the warning lights are not on they both "work" when they not supposed to. none of these problems has been under warranty. an awful lot wrong for a car with less than 100,000 miles. *tr
