On our first day of travel to the Outer Banks our GMC was parked in the rental property’s driveway. When my husband opened the hatchback of the suv, the pump pistons (I don’t know what they are called) that allow you to lower and raise the window was no longer working. I and the rest of our party started to unload the vechicle and went inside, my husband came up to the glove box to find the ENVOY owners manual. When I and the others came out, the window was totally blown out of the vehicle!! He had just missed all of this glass hitting him. I took photos of the glass all over the driveway. We were shocked. My husband looked on line and found that there are other Envoy owners that have had similar incidents happen to them. While in the Outer Banks my husband took our car to a GMC dealer in Kitty Hawk. They told him someone had the same thing happen a week or so ago. I have contacted GMC (they don’t care), I have also contacted the National Highway Traffic Safety Adm. My concern is for all the families who have vehicles like this, we escaped injury, will the next child, adult, passerby be so lucky? This car has not been in any accident, no rear end damage of any sort. This should not happen to a vehicle.

My service records are too lengthy to post here. How can I request your help? I am in a stuck situation with GMC. They have demonstrated poor interest and keep pushing me around.

In 2006 the left and right rear door latches would not stay locked, and would open without warning when turning a corner. I had these replaced, which the dealer said was under warranty. In 2007 again, the same problem recurs: this time, the manufacturer refuses to fix, saying the warranty no longer covers. i insist this is a safety issue which could result in death or injury. GM sent a letter refusing to correct defective locks. Is this a safety issue?

When I fill the gas tank the gauge goes to empy and the light comes on and stays that way for 30 miles or so until it slowly comes back up to full. I see many others with the same exact problem. This is not right that they let this problem go.

the envoy flashes it lights or blinks any time your under powerand you slow the lights flash like your going form low to high beam. gmc says all envoys do it and they have no fix.

check engine light on, engine would not start sometimes, ignition switch contact failure took vehicle to local GMC dealership on 04/05/07 who could not find cause of above. I took vehicle to dealership where vehicle was purchased (distance of approx. 120 miles round trip) on 04/12/07 . Immediately service tech was aware of ignition switch problem. The ignition was repaired in less than 1 hour, the check engine light did not come on during that service call. When the vehicle started to lunge, the dealership was called to schedule an appointment. The service technician discouraged bringing in vehicle saying that the vehicle was not "lunging" he said it was "downshifting". One month later the vehicle was involved in a collision when it "lunged" and the accelerator stuck thus crashing into a building.

I purchased a 2005 gmc envoy in september 2005. in the past year (since january 2007, at least), i have experienced several problems with my vehicle. the first problem is with the headlights. everytime i have driven the vehicle the headlights appear to dim/flicker and then return to normal. this has resulted in oncoming vehicles turning their bright lights on me thinking my brights are on when in reality my headlights are dimming and then returning to normal. the second problem concerns the passenger side airbag. anytime a certain weight limit is met or exceeded the airbag sensor is supposed to switch to on, but there have been several occasions when someone was sitting in the passenger seat and the airbag sensor hasn't recognized it. third problem, driver side power seat failure. there have been several instances when i have tried to move the driver seat forward, but nothing happened. the motor sounded like it was grinding and wanted to move, but the seat would not move forward or backward. the most extreme problem to date has been with the vehicle completely shutting off without warning while in the middle of driving and then not starting or even turning over at all. every single day for, at least, the last month when i go to start the vehicle it fails to start and it takes a minimum of 1 hour to get it started. one instance in particular when the vehicle shut off without warning was while my wife and i were on the freeway. without warning the vehicle shut down and we were forced to pull onto the shoulder. we sat there for almost an hour in temperatures of 13 degrees trying to get the vehicle restarted. there have been countless complaints and reports of other envoy owners experiencing these same problems. some dealers have actually said that these failures/problems are normal!!!! what!?!?! are you freaking kidding me?! since when is it considered "normal" when so many envoys are displaying these same problems? *tr

Tl*- the contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy. the headlights, dashboard, and tail lights flashed randomly at any speed, this failure started in october of 2006. the weather and time of day were not factors in the failure. the dealership said that the failure was normal. there were tsbs for the failure, as well as for several others. the fuel neck had been replaced twice due to a design change. the seal around the licenses place holder came loose and had to be replaced. the brake pedal was squeaking, the contact took vehicle for service on three occasions, and replaced the serpentine belt twice, an airbag sensor, the rear wiper arm, the oxygen sensor twice ,the first time at 7000 miles. there were cruise control failures, when the contact tried to accelerate it hesitated and then surged. the weather stripping on the rear doors has been repaired three times. the abs would skip on a bumpy road and would not engage. at one point the contact could smell fuel in the passenger compartment and vehicle had very poor gas mileage, the dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, but air valve became stuck and would not close. the rear door hinges squeaked. this winter it won't go to full voltage until a minute elapsed after the vehicle has been started. the original failure mileage was 3829, and the current mileage was 23700.*ak the brakes were inoperative, the belts squeaked, there was a problem with the abs, the air bag light illuminated, the cruise control didn't work properly, the rear wiper would only wipe the middle of the back windshield. a new fuel neck was installed. updated 03/15/07. *jb

My accident was may 25th 2018, my back passenger went off of a soft shoulder throwing me into 2 trees, i hit first one and seatbelt came apart but still over one shoulder hitting second tree and only thing that saved me was my right foot was under the brake and not on it, i hit my head on windshield causing me to have vision problems, severe whiplash, and rsd in right leg, i have to have cane, walker, or powerchair, my husband wants a divorce bc of my depression, my kids get fustrasted bc i forget i said something and i continue to repeatedly say thing, i never had none of this wrong with me till this accident and monique hill in claims says none of my injuries nor my family problems have nothing to do with general motors and i didn't hit sensors, i never had a seatbelt on but if that was the case that ding sound wouldn't have stopped! my life has completely changed and i'm losing my family bc of a accident

The vehicles headlights keep going out at night will driving. i have been dealing with this problem for about 2 years, i am a certified mechanic and i believe the problem is the headlight relay that is overheating. this is the same gm part that is being recalled in other gm vehicles. gm part # 15016745. so why has it not been recalled in 05 . the problem happens at random the light will go out while driving or parked it does not matter.

I have a 2005 gmc envoy denali 4x4 and 've run out of gas 3 times in the 4 years of owning this vehicle and every time the steering wheel completely locks making the vehicle unable to be moved from the place it decides to finally come to a rest at- and causing nothing short of a giant safety issue when your car is stuck in the middle of the road and you are not only trying to exit your car but not cause a collision when it is in a blind spot of a turn of other drivers on the road when it finally comes to a stop. i live in nh and there are many mountain like areas and if it ever happened at the bottom of a hill or a windy mountain road i'd probably be dead. last week i had a full tank and was turning out of my work and the wheel completely locked up and i ended up going up over a curb onto someones lawn and missing their home by a few feet-not okay. i was going no more than 20 mph this time and the previous times were on city roads all going between 40-60 mph.

Fuel gauge is erratic. after i fill up the tank, the fuel warning light comes on, the gauge is on empty and the message "low fuel" displays. this happens when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street and on the highway.

Received a "check engine" light while driving the vehicle. the fault code that came up was po128 ( insufficient ambient temperature - ect ) upon researching the problem i discovered that this is a common fault on this vehicle. it is generally caused by a "sticking" coolant thermostat. this condition also results in poor heating poor heating of the passenger compartment. if this is such a common problem with vehicle as i have found. gm should issue a recall and correct the problem at no expense to the owner!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. while driving various speeds, the instrument panel malfunctioned. the contact stated that the speedometer, fuel, and oil gauges fluctuated and incorrectly reported the speed, fuel quantity, and oil quantity. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 129,872.

Tl* the contact owned a 2005 gmc envoy. while driving approximately 55 mph, the driver was flagged down by another driver who noticed smoke underneath the front passenger side of the vehicle. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and became engulfed in flames. the police, department of public safety, and fire department arrived at the scene. the fire department extinguished the fire. both fire and police reports were filed. there were no injuries reported. the department of public safety diagnosed that the fire was started by a fractured fuel line. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was totaled and towed to a tow yard. the failure mileage was 132,000.

My seat covers were originally cloth but at time of purchase they were replaced with leather seat coverings and there is recall #06v417000 has me very concerned.

I've had my 2005 envoy for a little over a year and had my headlights flash on and off while driving on the road and freway. on one occasion while driving on a two lane highway ay night the lights went out completely for a few seconds. i was so scared wss really glad for no one behind me or on coming traffic. on another occassion i had to pull over on city street as my lights were going on and off and i could see the car ahead was a cop and i didnt want him to think i was flashing for help especially at 2 in the morning. ive also had to exit the freeway because my lights started going on and off and on and wasnt sure if they would just go out completely while i was driving and since it was night time i didnt want to take the chance of causing an accident and hurting someone else or myself. i have a teenage daughter and am afraid to transport her and her friends in my car.

While driving in a 40 mph zone i glanced at the speedometer and it read 70 mph! i immediately applied the brakes to slow the vehicle down before i realized that the speedometer indication was inaccurate. upon coming to a complete stop the speedometer indicated 40 mph. this happened several times before resuming normal operation. since then i have noticed the gauge "sticking" when letting off of the gas pedal. this is creating an un-safe condition for myself as well as the occupants of this vehicle. i do not know when the speed indication is truly accurate. i have since learned that this is a common defect on this vehicle as well as other gm models made during this time frame. there should definitely be a recall on this problem before an accident occurs.

I starting smelling a sweet smell in the cabin. a leak was apparent that dripped from the inside of the cabin to the muffler later on to the pavement. the leak was discovered on a line that ran to the right rear side. anti freeze was leaking and i was getting really sick, not even dr's could figure it out. took a great mechanic called [xxx] in national city, ca; after so many missed it. thank god information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy xl. the contact stated while driving 30 mph, the door unlocked independently and became ajar. the contact stated that the door knob actuated up and down continually, while the vehicle was being driven. the contact stated that on several occasions and at some point each door swung open while the vehicle was being driven. the contact stated that there was no warning lights illuminated however, the door chime remained audible continually. the contact stated that the failure occurred whether the vehicle was being driven or while reversing. the contact stated that the failure affected both driver’s and passenger’s side front and rear doors. also included in the failure was the rear door and hatch. the contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 15v599000 (visibility) however, the vin was not included. the vehicle years included in the recall were 2006-2007. the vehicle was taken to ferman buick gmc - wesley chapel (24252 fl-54, tampa, fl 33559, (813) 242-2800) where the contact was informed that due to the manufactured year, the manufacturer was not obligated to offer a free repair. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the driver’s side door master switch needed to be replaced due to water intrusion into the circuit which caused the poles to be rusted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the manufacturer informed the contact the model year gmc envoy xl subjected to the nhtsa campaign number: 15v599000 (visibility) was 2006-2007. the contact was offered no additional assistance. the failure mileage was unknown. *dt*jb

While proceeding to take a left turn after coming to a stop at a t intersection both driver and passenger side curtain airbags deployed on their own. this scared my wife to death! it caused her to bump the curb with one if the tires only, no accident. thankfully she was off work and the kids were already at school and not with her at the time! i called gm immediately and reported this. an investigation was conducted and lasted about 2 months. i was informed that the findings were confidential and that they would not be repairing my vehicle! you have got to be kidding me. my wife suffered a minor head injury, scare of her life not to mention we were not provided with a rental, communications were poor at best with our car worker at gm. she was even out sick for a week, it took me 4 days for someone to finally tell me that. the envoy is a 2005 and was bought new and has been with our family ever since. low mileage just turning 100k. very well cared for. i am floored that gm is not repairing our baby! i have seen many reports of the same online. i truly feel gm is deceiving the public to a bigger problem. hence the reason they stated the findings are confidential. i just wanted our baby repaired.

My vehicle when purchased was altered from cloth seats to leather by the dealership where purchased. 3 days ago my car is signaling me to service airbag while driving the car or in idle. so i immediately took it to a certified mechanic at meineke and was told that this is a manufacturer defect and there is a recall for this on my year, make & model suv. i called gm on 11/29/2019 and was told by a supervisor named angel there has been no recalls by their manufacturer and there is nothing more she can do about the matter. i cannot drive my car like this knowing this can be potentially harmful and hazardous.

The gas gauge stays on empty when there is a full tank of gas. there rear windshield wiper comes on by itself. the radio plays like it is in a tin box. every so often it will play normal. but most of the time it doesn't. this happens when it is moving or in park.

Brake lights stopped working; the light bulbs work, but when you push in the breaks neither back brake lights come on. the only working break light is the middle top one. this is very dangerous.

Parked vehicle in the garage and went in the house. next morning went to use vehicle and found that the rear hatch glass had exploded. glass everywhere. the vehicle had not been moved for over 12 hours. have called to have glass replaced but have since discovered that this is a common issue with these types of vehicles. now am concerned that it will happen again. major concern is it will happen again while driving and have my grand children in the back seat and get injured from flying glass.

Fuel leaked everywhere had to replace the fuel pipe, hose and more pipes. representatives at gmc adviced me that other vehicles with the same tank has recalls and my vehicle should be part of the recall! i called gmc multiple times and they opened and closed the case without any investigation as they promised! i paid $991.55 for something that should have been covered in a recall. i believe it is recall id 12v459000 just based on my internet searches. gmc is denying me an investigation! please help me one case # opened with gmc was [xxx] i don’t know where i can get my $991.55 back and gmc keeps brushing me off and dismissing me. it is terrible! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt

About 4 years i noticed my low beam headlights sometimes would not work at night, forcing me to drive with my high beams on, blinding other motorists. this was reported to the dealer's service manager and he said it may cost $500 to determine the cause. i could not afford this expenditure. i try to avoid driving at night and only recently i had to drive at night and again my low beams would not work, forcing me to again drive with my high beams on. my fiancÉ did a google search and learned this is a common problem with this fuse/relay. we learned we could pull out the high beam fuse/relay which is identical to the low beam and switch them. upon doing so, the low beams once again worked.

Fuel light stays on constantly & fuel gauge always showing empty when vehicle running in motion or stationary

I had just drove my truck the night before headlights worked fine. i went to leave the next night and no headlights at all. so vehicle was stationary when i realized i had no headlights. i have to drive with my brights on at night. i have no regular headlights at all. then my passenger side window just quit working as well.

Front windshield leaks and rubber/sealant is weak in spots

Vehicle was stationary and in drive when it had a uncontrolled acceleration resulting in a collision with a garage where it was being parked. extensive damage resulted to the home and vehicle. no injuries.

While driving, low beam headlamps will turn off without warning...high beam headlamps still function

A while back, we noticed while driving down the interstate at night that our lights seemed to be flickering (low beams). it would do it occasionally, but we never knew when it would happen. since then, we have had the lights go completely out while driving, and had to turn the fog lamps on to have headlights of any sort. tonight, the lights went out, and i pulled into my driveway and was going to have my husband come out and see what was going on if he could. while i sat there with the car running and in park, after about 3 minutes, they came back on. i have read that there was a recall on the light modular for 2006+ envoys, but mine is a 2005, and having the same problem that i heard the recall was for. i have also heard that the 2005 trailblazers were included in the recall, but not the envoys????

My 2005 gmc envoy xl has the same recalled master window switch units as other recalls, both sides front driver and passenger doors burnt with a bad smell as i was driving. why? why is my vehicle not included in the recall when everything is the same as other recalled vehicles ?? i was driving on the parkway when i noticed a burning smell with nowhere to pull over for a few miles in great panic with cars going past me at 65 mph plus as i was being cautious to get to an exit so i could figure out what the problem was. it was the door switch so i lifted it out of the door and unplugged it so i could continue my trip. scary situation . plus my mechanic can't get the answer if just replacing the switch will make it work or does it need programmed into the computer ?

The low beam headlights went out while driving 50mph on a highway because a relay in the fuse box overheated and melted the fuse box. i know there is already a recall on the trailblazer from the same year because they are the same car but there is not one for the envoy.

Low beam headlights go off without warning. high beams still work. this has happened when moving on city roads and highways. the next time i drive the car the low beams may or may not work.

Suv dies and won't start back until it cools down. i was traveling 55 mph on a five lane highway and the vehicle just died. i had the vehicle towed to the local dealer and it couldn't be diagnosed.

My gas gauge stopped showing how much gas is in the tank. even when it is full, it still shows that it is empty.

Car was parked for 10 minutes when we noticed smoke coming from the interior upon opening the car door we realized the dashboard was engulfed in flames.

Reading numerous complaints that compare to mine the fuel gauge, oil gauges, air conditioner are all malfunctioning in my car and i'm very upset because all of this should have been recalled. i purchased my car brand new in 2005 and i will never buy a gmc car again for this reason it's one thing to recall repair parts that were broken that to repair malfunction parts. very disappointed. in short my gauges don't work, my air conditioner only works on one side and now my headlights low bean don't work. gmc needs to recall and repair.

Service airbag light goes on and off randomly. while driving the speedometer reads 0 oil pressure guage reads no pressure, all guages read 0, then speedometer reads random speeds.

Takata recall, early morning, my power steering stopped working, so i filled it and it started working again, as i was driving down a busy road turning onto my own street, the power steering and brakes failed resulting in me crashing into a pole, and the air bags did not deploy and the seatbelt did not lock, so i flew into the steering wheel, breaking my hand. the damage was so severe it was considered totaled.

Problem with both headlight low beam malfunction; going on and off. problem started on 1/10/16 and continues until today despite replacing both headlight low beam fuses and relay.

Lights go off and won't come back on for 2 hours. you can smell something burning but cannot find where it is coming from. i have replaced all bulbs 3 times. and nothing changes.

I was driving down the highway after dark and my low beams completely went out. i could only get my high beams to work. currently only one low beam is working and the other will not work even after changing the bulb or the fuse. i believe this is a huge safety concern especially having a young child. it was very scary going down the road at night and have your lights completely just go out. i have noticed that there are issues with 06-07 envoys but i wanted gm to be made aware that 2005 models have been affected as well.

While driving my 2005 gmc envoy my speedometer will stop working and register as 0 mph even when i am moving. it also has shown me travelling at a much higher speed at times. there are many issues with this that i've found while searching the web. it is unnerving and dangerous to not know the speed you are traveling. i have started to use a gps system when i drive to show my speed.

When stopped in traffic or at a stop light, my vehicle will idle roughly and sometime stall. it does this in drive, neutral and park. i've had it checked and they couldn't find anything wrong. there are no codes showing a problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. while driving at 45 mph, water from the rain entered the door module resulting in a short in the circuit board. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the contact confirmed that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v406000 (electrical system, visibility). the vehicle was taken to the dealer who refused to perform the recall repair. the dealer stated that the contact needed a notice that was addressed from the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 117,400.

While driving my envoy rear door opened up on the highway while driving. i pulled over and tried to close it. it wouldn't close, i had to use a bungy cord to keep it closed.

When backing the vehicle to leave a local restaurant, driver struck vehicle behind her. this happened so quickly that it was unknown to the driver how the vehicle traveled so quickly that driver had not even had a chance to turn the steering wheel to avoid striking the other vehicle. driver placed vehicle in drive to pull over to assess the damage. when placed into drive, the vehicle lurched forward and continued to accelerate despite the brakes being applied. the vehicle struck a brick restaurant. damage was also done to the interior bathroom of the facility and the business had to close to assure safety of it's staff/customers. witness states the vehicle was obviously lurching and appeared to have a mechanical problem. the driver's foot bounced off of the brake pedal on impact lodging it underneath the brake pedal. it was also noted that neither front airbags did deploy. driver did not seek medical attention however driver's foot was badly bruised.

I was driving on a curvy 2 lane road in the country and the sun was just setting and i couldn't get any lights on my car. my lights are automatic and i just assumed that i had bumped a button and accidentally turned them off, so i started turning the switch to turn them on and it wasn't working. i almost drove off the road several times trying to get some light on. i then hit a section where tree lined curved section that was pretty dark. there had been no shoulder or anywhere to pull over there or for several miles. i could get bights lights, but no dim. i ended up driving with my fog lights, unknowingly at the time. we had just replace the bulbs 5 months before but we tried new bulbs and fuses to see if this would fix the problem. unfortunately, it didn't. i have noticed a recall on lights for the envoy years 06-07 for what seems like the same reason and mine is an 05. *tr

I first noticed this problem when i was getting onto a highway and when i looked at my speedometer it registered 120mph. i was just merging into the lane with traffic. then when i exited and wile waiting for a stoplight to change to green, my car registered 60 while sitting still. this had happened the winter before and then stopped. this time i had to fix it. it never stopped registering my speed incorrectly. *tr

Low beam relay (headlamp driver module (hdm) burned out--same thing happened 4-9-2015. this time melted the fan relay and fused the two relays together. 2006 & 2007 envoys were recalled for the same identical problem. the hdm overheated and caused headlamp and daytime running lights to fail and not illuminate. gmc plans to charge approximately $800 for entire new set up because box is not sold without all relays. was told possible further expense if electrical problems are found. *tr

I have goodyear fortera tires (p245-65r 17) on my vehicle, car is pulling to the left & shakes, my mechanic checked out the vehicle and said your tire is coming apart. i heard on the news that there was a recall on these goodyear tires, but on the news...i thought i understood them to say it was the 18" fortera? any other reports on issues with other sizes of this model? Accelerating while entering a freeway, took foot off the gas and the vehicle continued to accelerate. applied brake but vehicle continued to accelerate. put vehicle in neutral to try and slow down and again applied brake. vehicle began to spin to the right and we hit the guard rail, hitting the passenger rear bumper and the driver's side front bumper. side air bags deployed. car spun into the middle travel lane and began to spin around. car was slowing down and was able to turn car off. fortunately no other cars were involved. an off duty sheriff's deputy stopped and said he noticed smoke and thought the car was on fire but no fire occurred. when state police arrived they asked us to move the car to the break down lane. was able to put car in reverse and backed car to breakdown lane. tried to put car in drive but car wouldn't go forward. *tr

The speedometer does not function properly anymore. this is a recurring problem in gmc envoys, but gm will not acknowledge nor fix the issue. speedometer currently shows i'm doing 60 mph while parked. this is a safety issue because drivers don't really know how fast they are going...... *tr

As i was driving the vehicle, the dashboard lit up and the odometer and all the information systems went to zero. this has happened often over the years. i took it to two gmc car dealerships and the first one said it was the kill switch installed by a buy here pay here dealership. the kill switch was removed and the dashboard continued to flicker. then the car would not start, i took it to another dealership and was told they couldn't find anything. the car began to tribble, again i took it in and was told that i needed to clean the fuel injection system. i did that and bought a battery but that didn't help. the tow driver said it seems to be something electrical but the car dealership can't find a solution. have you had this complaint before? not to confuse the complaint, i have several issues. 1. dashboard lights up and the information panels shut down (all are at zero) 2. the odometer goes to zero and the instrument cluster is black 3. tribble underneath while driving feels as if the car is shaking thank you for any assistance you can provide. *tr

My car was parked in the driveway of my home. my neighbor alerted me that my rear window exploded. i went outside and subsequently observed glass everywhere inside, on top, the bumper of the vehicle. apparently, this is a problem with this particular gmc model there is whole blog dedicated to it on edmunds.com. *tr

This is a recurring problem with not just my vehicle, but after a very simple web search a vast number of these gmc envoy vehicles. when traveling normally the speedometer decides to either drop its speed by 20-30 mph or raise it even as high as 120mph. when traveling in the city or hwy where the speed limit zones vary rather frequently and in heavy traffic, the driver naturally reacts to the needle unaware that the speedometer is actually faulty. i have therefore braked hard to reduce my speed when in fact i was going the speed limit. that can result in an instant to a rear end crash based on normal reactions. gm obviously are aware of this issue as there are multiple on line complaints for this same issue and indeed they issued a recall for similar gm trucks. they however continue to ignore the envoy problem and leave the owners "live or die" with the problem. how this cannot be considered a high priority safety issue is a mystery to me. even 10 mph variations in heavy traffic mean potential accidents from bumper hugging drivers behind. this issue is more common in the extreme cold weather and thus i am of the opinion that there is a definite testing validation problem. *tr

I was driving about 25 miles per hour @ night when all the warning lights on the dash came on and all the gauges read zero except the speedometer and tach, transmission gear selector wasn't indicating what gear i was in & radio also killed. headlights, wipers & directions were still functional. i only had a mile to drive to get home. parked vehicle in garage and shut off....only to discover that power locks had failed and i was locked in car, power windows were also out! removed key from ignition and fortunately the remote key fob unlocked the door. had this been an emergency situation, i would have no way to exit the car nor would any passengers. anyone else having this problem? i contacted dealer to apprize them of this new problem and was advised that if it's intermittent they would have problems fixing it. the vehicle seemed to reset in the morning and all dash warning lights back to normal! *tr

I was doing preventative maintenance on my 2005 gmc envoy and while i had the passenger side wheel off i had noticed a fairly large rusted hole in the side of the frame to the left of the shock tower. i couldn't believe that a 2005 vehicle had frame rust that went clear through the vehicle. i have a 1981 jeep that i use as a farm vehicle doesn't even have frame rust through. i am sure that before this vehicle is paid off it will have a broken frame soon. i just checked the hole yesterday and it is getting larger. very poor metal used in these frames. not satisfied. a frame ought to last longer than that. *tr

Drivers side window module became inoperable. while traveling on the highway a lot of smoke started coming from the panel causing us to pull over, open the door and turn the engine off. it never started fire but heavy smoke came out for about 10 mins and left a strong electrical smoke odor for hours. window panel is now completely inoperable. *tr

On september 16th, 2011, i was involved in an auto accident that was a head on crash. the air bags never deployed and i sustained back injuries. on site of the accident my back was hurting some but did not go to hospital until later that evening, after the adrenalin and the shock wore off. i now have sever back problems with a lot of pain and was declared disabled in 2012. at the time of doing research i was told by on-star, which never came on, that if my air bags didn't deploy they wouldn't come on.. but, the frame was bent so bad that they totaled the vehicle, with a lot of other damage. the whole front was damaged, the bumper was destroyed along with damage to the motor. and we could not understand why the air bags did not deploy. *tr

The suv has shut off on me three times in the last 2 1/2 yrs (the time i have owned it. ) each time i was just driving on the city streets going about 30 mph. all of a sudden the car just shut off and all lights, etc just turned off. i am concerned wondering if perhaps there is a problem with the 2005 envoy ignition switch as well? no, it was not the battery or anything to do with the servicing of the suv. i take care of the vehicle and i don't drive 200 miles a month. i guess i am lucky that each time i was not gong fast and the suv just slowed down and came to a stop, on the side of the road. however the 2nd time, i had 2 little girls in the car with me and it concerned me a great deal.each time the suv started back up and i was able to resume driving after about 2 minutes. what if i had been going faster ? what if i had been on a highway etc. if there is an issue with the ignition, please lets fix it before someone dies. i will make sure everyone in my family know about the shut off problems i have had with the car. just in case something happens while i am driving it. *tr

When backing a small trailer into garage, driver saw flames coming from hood, driver existed vehicle which soon was engulfed. entire engine and components were totaled due to fire loss. car a complete loss.

After filling my vehicles gas tank, the gauge shows empty, an the lo e fuel level warning light is engaged. initially, this only happened when the fuel level was above half of a tank, then the level would show correctly from one half of a tank and lower. eventually, it never showed correctly and always as empty with low fuel warning. *tr

Fuel sensors affecting proper read out on fuel gauge. window an door lock switches on driver side door does not work properly. works when it wants to. clips on headlight an grill assembly constantly coming loose.i have contacted gm. about wrong fuel readings they told me the problem is fuel sensors in the tank but will not pay for repairs due to closed recall. this problem has resulted in running out of fuel multiple times. even though this problem and other problems has just recently started.the cost is over 600.00 dollars that i should not have to pay..... *tr

On july 28, 2014 i was going down a hill and the engine shut off completely. fortunately i was only going approximately 5 mph and was able to coast across the main street and was able to coast into a parking spot. i tried restarting my envoy with no luck so i had the truck towed to the local gmc dealership and was told that the ignition switch had gone bad. i hate to think what would have happened if i was going faster or going down a steep mountain because where i live i am surrounded by mountains. i am not sure if anyone else experienced this problem with a similar vehicle. i do know that other gm cars and vehicles are being recalled for this same situation but was told that mine is not under a recall at this time. *tr

Fuel light came on, speedometer stopped working, engine cut off. before that, the muffler started making rumbling noise. i had just fueled the vehicle. findings by aaa: abs bad had to be replaced 1056$ and realignment. 2. exhaust manifold and pipe replacement 400. don't know about fuel system yet brakes /abs is 3rd time since buying the car in 2006. 2nd time for engine issues. car started overheating on beltway this week and blower motor not working right. also have issues with window passenger side front wont work now and rear wiper stopped working. holy you know! think i got a lemon! *tr

Filled up gas tank to full, when pulling out of gas station, fuel light came on and gas gauge showed it was empty. after driving for a short while gauge started to go to full. this happens everytime i fill up for gas. *tr

Gmc envoy shut down while driving. all power lost. vehicle came to a complete stop just a few feet before an intersection. dealer replaced ignition switch, due to "multiple codes stored in the ecm." ironically, almost 2 years prior, same issue with the vehicle happened on the express way. we were lucky to be able to get to the side of the road before the vehicle came to a stop. ignition switch was replaced during that incident as well. two ignition switches have been replaced in the same vehicle over the course of 2 years. i'm surprised that this vehicle isn't part of the gm ignition recall! *tr

At lees than 1/4 tank of fuel the gas gauge is close, after refueling, the fuel gauge goes way past full and will stay like that until fuel is below 1/4 tank. last time the truck took 19.85 gallons in a 20 gallon tank until it started working correctly again. one tank it worked fine and next fill up it was way beyond full again. at the same time when fuel gauge is wrong, the speedometer will be off. many times freezing at 35mph while traveling 65mph. after many resets of ignition, the speedometer will come back. also when all of this is happening with the speedometer and fuel gauge, the radio has no audio. every now and again, the radio will come back and work on one speaker. most of the time it is out. when weather is warmer, all 3 functions seem to work regularly. below 50 degrees, all malfunction. *tr

My 2005 gmc envoy has started experiencing a knocking sound in the right rear passenger side. it starts approximately a minute after the vehicle starts and stops within a minute or so. it happens when the car is moving or idle. this started yesterday evening. not sure what is causing it. everything is running fine in the vehicle. there must be other similar complaints and resolutions.

The gas tank sensor went out. lately received a letter from gmc for repair but with 2 criterias. first : vehicle must be under 120.000 miles and second criteria less than 10 years. my personal situation only applies the 10 years. *tr i talk to gms and gmc in turn says i have deal with the local dealer and local dealer says gmc must authorized the repair. i further investigate the issue that there are many similar situations and gmc knows that it's a defective part. i think it is in danger if i forget to gas up my car.

Seems that the fuel gauge reads empty even after i fill it up. it will chime, illuminate the low fuel light and read --- for range left till empty. this has been a known issue. after you drive and use about 5 gallons it will then go from f to e every few minutes and then the check engine light comes on with code p0463. this has been a known issue. gm stated that they did send out at one time a offer to pay half of the associated cost if we chose to fix this and it was only available for a short time. i was deployed overseas at the time so i never got that mail and i would not have been able to do anything at that point in time anyway, however they could have allowed me to do it upon my return, nope!!! they said that there is nothing that can be done now, and it is viewed on a case by case basis. they told me to see their liaison at my local dealership, he will then call the gm rep. it has now been over a week and still no reply. when i called gm back on my own, it seems they closed my case but did not have a reason why it was closed and i was placed from one supervisor to another. i have repaired or replaced so many thing on this suv in excess of 7k already its not funny.( power pedal relay, and module, self leveling suspension, ac control head, fan clutch motor, ac accumulator, entire fuse block, entire short block of engine and half the top end.)now the heat and ac system are giving me issues with the actuator door as well as the control box where no air comes thru the dash vents only the floor and gmc stated that is a known problem that has affected many but that there is no recall on that either. of course now i am over the allotted mileage and warranty. some of us live in rural areas where its not a quick trip to a local store but a 17 mile round trip just to get to a small store.

Fuel sensor no longer works on vehicle. although this doesn't appear to be a safety issue per se, its a manufacturing defect with the vehicle that gmc has recognized however they continue to put stipulations around vehicles that have this issue that they are willing to fix. for example, the vehicle must be under 10yrs of age or under 120,000 miles whichever comes first. this is ridiculous. i think that gmc should be required to fix this known problem regarding of how many miles or years of age is on the vehicle. *tr

The back passenger doors, at times, wont shut, they keep popping open. i had the parts replaced back in 2009, now it is 2013 and i have to replace again.

In march 2012 i had motor mounts installed on my 2005 gmc envoy at the dealership jay gmc buick columbus georgia. on august 26,2013 they are telling me i need new motor mounts because of the age of vehicle and miles they need to be replace. i guess parts are old and professional installing is old to. during this same time had a tune-up {major} and now have to have coil and plug install. this make it seem paying for professional serve is a waste of time. my fuel injector also needs cleaning again. in the future i can only expect 40,000 miles on anything fixed by dealer. *tr

We were driving at night and the head lights went out leaving us in the dark. we have checked the fuses but they are all fine. the fuel gauge does not come off of empty even though we fill it up. *tr

I filled up at the local exxon gas station and when i started the car the fuel gauge reads empty with the yellow light illuminated. tried starting the vehicle several times,to no avail.carried car to a mechanic and diagnosed the problem as the sending unit in the fuel tank. repair cost roughly $800 - $1000 dollars. *tr

Initially the amp gauge pegged out followed within a month by the speedometer giving up or sometimes reading 120 mph while sitting at a red light. i was told that this was a common problem and could be repaired at a cost of about $600. not being able to afford that at the time, i installed a gps unit so i would have some type of speedometer. within 2 mos. time the car stalled upon takeoff from a light with ringing bells,the dash warning lights dimly lit and the tachometer bouncing from 500 to 2500 rpms while the engine was stopped. the car would not re-start until the key was turned off once or twice and the warning lights lit brightly. this problem has been recurring more and more frequently sometimes at highway speeds over 65mph. i'm told gm is well aware of the problem but refuses to issue a recall because it is not mandated as a "safety problem". i drive the interstates for a living and have nearly been rear ended numerous times already. how can this not be a safety issue and how can a company which took millions of taxpayer bailout money not be forced to deal with this issue. *tr

The speedometer stops working after about two hours of driving. it goes to zero. it sometimes starts again if the vehicle is stopped and started again, but it will quit working if a long drive continues. it works perfectly when driving around town on short trips. the service bulletin apparently says to "clean ground connection". however, this did not fix the problem. i am told i need to have speedometer replaced at a cost of over $600.00. *tr

We parked our gmc envoy in the driveway the evening of 6/8/13 around 7:30 pm. i hadn't used the rear hatch at all on this day. my husband was outside and left and came back in his vehicle after midnight. so sometime in the early hours of 6/9/13 the rear window exploded. at first we though something or someone broke it, however there were no foreign objects found that could have caused it the break. it wasn't a nick or crack, the glass was completely shattered. most of the glass was on the outside of the vehicle and all over the side walk with only a small amount on the inside of the vehicle. the vehicle was locked from the inside. after doing an internet search i found many other instances of the exact same thing happening to other gmc envoys. in some cases people were near enough and some being inside the vehicle and incurred injuries with no known or apparent cause for the glass to be shattered. thank goodness we were inside sleeping and there were no injuries. the problem comes in that i cannot afford to have it fixed even with my insurance as my deductible hasn't been met, so we have plastic over it. with all the reports of this happening to other people gmc claims to have never heard of such a thing. i'm going to take it in to a dealership this morning, but wonder if anything can be done to compensate replacing the glass. *tr

A recall has just been issued for gmc envoy. driver side door panel shorts out and may cause a fire. recall for 2006 and 2007 model years. my car is a 2005 and the driver door controls have been shorting out for about a year. i have not yet had a fire but why was my model year not recalled and what steps can i take to have this model year included in this recall? *tr

While i was driving on the ramp, my headlights started to flicker in and out. at one point the lights went completely out. after hitting a bump in the road the lights came back on. went to the mechanic and they were not able to find anything wrong. *tr

I have been reading a lot and it seems to be a common problem in the 2005 series gmc envoy, chevy trailblazer. basically the cooling fan clutch goes bad easily and quickly. when you start the engine it is fine but after the clutch needs to engage it either clicks, and doesn't engage or it just makes that common jet engine roaring. this is all to common and gm needs to do something about it. there have been people with 40,000 miles or 140,000. i my self am on my second one and it is already doing to the same thing after 5 months. *tr

On way driving down the road at 8:00 pm central time at night to mothers house at speed of 45 mph which is speed limit 55 mph. all of a sudden while driving, the headlights start flickering on and off. as i still driving, the headlights flickering on and off got worse and worse. i was immediately concern with the safety of myself and other drivers on the road that i had to stop at a store to check the lights. lights and vehicle is intact and nothing seem to cause any obstruction for the lights to flicker on and off. i immediately came home which i was only 15 miles from the house. *tr

The fuel gauge on my vehicle started to go up and down and then the yellow empty light came on all of a sudden while driving. even after filling up the gas tank, the fuel gauge does not read correctly. i'm now at the point i have to keep track of my gas usage by using my trip meter and tracking the miles that i drive. i'm afraid to take my vehicle on long trips, not knowing when i may run out of gas. *tr

The accident happened on 2-15-2013 on pennsylvania avenue se during rush hour the other car did not yield to ongoing traffic on pennsylvania avenue and dodged out from a side street and hit my vehicle on the front side and my son who is 13 head hit the dashboard and my daughters dog flew from the back seat up to the front. the other vehicle airbag did deploy but mines did not. *tr

Fuel gauge stopped working in april 2011. showing empty even when full. took to dealer. mentioned i heard trailblazers also having issue. was told no recalls. had to pay for repairs. finally got notice can get portion of money back. it took months to get portion of money back. i had to keep following up even though they confirmed they had my paperwork. strike 1. had car in for 100,000 mile service, 9/24 - 9/25/2012, only to go back later because of car seeming to now have issues accelerating and car was not reset after oil change. told needed engine mounts. disputed this as seems strange car was running and sounding fine before 100k mile service. went back and forth with dealer.took car back to have master tech check and also because oil gauge stuck in one spot. went in 12/31/2012. was quoted repair price for oil sensor and now repair quote not only has engine mount replacement but also quoted trans mount replacement. really....refused repair. strike 2 and 3. btw, also needed new tires. i went to other dealer approximately 35 minutes away instead to get tires. on 3/5/2013, on way home notice speedometer showing about 90 miles even though gps says i'm only doing about 67. exited interstate, shut car off and turned back on. no change. got home, turned car off. speedometer stuck at 20 miles. morning of 3/6/13, started car, speedometer stuck at 7 miles. worked full day. got home and it was back to zero after turning car off. current odometer is approximately 106,102. these people need to own up to their mistakes and errors. we spend enough money with them. grass may not be greener with other make vehicle but customer service goes a long way!!!!! will take a lot to get me to buy another gmc or similar vehicle. *tr

In december of this past year (2012) my 2005 gmc envoy began to have issues with the speedometer. i would be traveling down the a busy road at a traffic light barley moving and the speedometer would read 80mph. the needle would fluctuate anywhere from 20 mph all the way up to 120 mph and peg there. one occasion the speedometer would go back to normal 0 mph and work normally, but now that is an extremely rare occurrence. *tr

I purchased my envoy approx. 1 year ago. i have 105,000 miles on it currently. my speedometer would get stuck at 50 mph but would seem to always end up fixing itself. now it is pegged at 120 and has been that way for 2 months. # 5 on my ac/heat blower is not working. my engine light is on. my windshield wipers turn on every time i start my car. i can not turn them off , usually after about 30 wipes it will turn off. this is very frustrating to me. as i am researching these problems on the internet, hoping to find some sort of recall, i find many other envoy owners with the same problems!!!! i really feel that gmc should be responsible for this as many people are in this situation. i have to say with this many problems, it's the vehicle not the people and i think gmc needs to back their product and take care of these issues. *tr

As i was driving on the highway, i noticed that the speedometer was no longer measuring my speed, and was stuck on 70mph. the needle remained there, occasionally lowering itself in 5mph increments after restarting the engine, but then getting stuck again when driving. the needle generally buries itself at 120+ and does not readjust even by small increments anymore. my fuel gauge is also not working, reads on e regardless of how much fuel is in the tank, i wonder if these two problems are connected? *tr

Rear windshield/back window shattered on it's own while parked in parking lot. couldn't figure out why or what had caused this to happen. took the vehicle to shop for windshield to be replaced, and when i got in the car to leave the shop the rear windshield shattered again. my daughter was in the back seat at the time and this scared the crap out of both of us. the shop could not believe this and replaced the window for a 2nd time. when i got home i googled 'gmc envoy, rear window' and see this has happened to many others with envoys of different year models. something needs to be looked into here for the safety of those of us driving these vehicles. *tr

Almost dusk, high beams were on. thought i saw a flicker. got behind another car and saw that it was my lights. looked to my panel and my voltage was swinging between 9 volts up to 18-19 volts. turned all power draw off except my low beams. needle kept swinging and lights kept flashing. was 6 miles from home. i made it. there was a discharge to my system instead of continueing to charge. took to dealer. nothing found. 11-6-2012 it happened again. has happened inbetween also. very intermittant. had batttery & alternator checked at least 3 times. always good. after incidents, works fine until next time. never happened in summer. always when cooler weather. now that it is december, afraid to drive after dark. there must a bullentin or recall??? too many complaints on this problem. don't want to get rid of my car. engine is good. only 69,000 miles. is dealer just acting dumb? *tr

Fuel gauge registers empty after filling tank. light & sound sensors indicate low fuel level. fuel must drain slowly into tank or gas pump shuts off. electrical dash indicators do not work for a time after fueling so cannot set the trip indicator to gauge the mileage to a tank of gas. fuel on occasion does not shut off at the gas pump when tank is full. *tr

Service brake lights stay on even after repaired , gas gauge goes crazy, tachometer doesn't work properly lights dim and flash, windshield has recall needs replaced , gas gauge quit working electrical system keeps failing. three recalls need to be replaced gmc admits fault to electrical problem, noted on website safercar.gov. want to know what dealer to bring my car to for repairs. i am a cancer patient with metastatic liver cancer i have thousand of dollars worth of medical, i can't keep paying for this car to be repaired when gmc owns up to the fact that these defects are their fault please tell me where to take this envoy for them to fix all these problems thank you *tr

Gas gauge continuously fluctuates between empty and full even with a full tank, this also causes the engine light to come on. there has been numerous complaints from other owners with the same problem but a recall has yet to be issued. called the dealer and they said they will cover half the cost. why not the whole cost since this issue is so prevalent? *tr

Headlights began to dim, then brighten repeatedly, as to appear to be "flashing" other drivers. shortly after, the oil pressure gauge malfunctioned. after the oil pressure gauge, a few days later the battery gauge malfunctioned. a few weeks later, the gas gauge stopped working right. now, the engine continuously jerks, like it is missing due to lack of fuel. contacted gmc on 11-09-2012. no solution. *tr

After receiving recall for fuel pump and sender,gas gauge started acting up. when filling, gauge would read empty with light on or would go all around pass full. wife had to use trip meter to estimate how much fuel was in tank. took to dealer and they said level sensor failed and replaced same at no cost. picked car up and was driving about week, when wife said gauge not working again. checked and found when car was started gauge went to half, turned car off gauge stayed at half and when started again went to 3/4 full. did this several times and gauge went pass full. called dealer to ask if gm had come up with something for their cars to make fuel so i would not have to pay $5.00 per gal. they said no, so took car back to have checked again. this time was told it was cluster which was bad. so had replaced at a cost of $486.10 and guess what not part of recall. so had to payout of pocket. i told them they need to stop putting so many chinese parts into so called made in america cars because they cannot talk to each other. just crossing fingers it will get me to midwest and back before something else goes bad. need the good old days back when you didn't need a computer to trouble shoot a computer in your car. oh by the way, you cannot expect the politicians to call for gm to pay for these repairs, because it might lower their stocks from inside trading, when they found out they were bailing gm out from bankruptcy. *tr

Fuel gauge indicated nearly 1/4 tank and the car ran out of gas. from that time forward the fuel gauge would bounce back and forth from empty to full right after i filled completely up. it would start to work properly after about 40 miles or so. i was told by a mechanic that my running out of gas may have had an effect on the calibration of the level sensor since it was only doing it when it was completely full and then would work fine after awhile. the problem continued to get worse, it continued to bounce back and forth when the tank was full, but within a few weeks started to do the same thing once the tank got down to around 1/2 full. it continued to get worse and now continually stays on empty. my check engine light would also come on when the sensor was going crazy, and now that its always on e, the engine light is continually on. i have to completely fill my tank and set my trip odometer everytime i fill up so that i have some idea of how much gas i have, but it has still caused me to run out two additional times since the initial time i ran out and i realized there was a problem. i have taken it to a dealership and was quoted a huge amount of money to have it fixed, especially since i have recently found out this is a very common problem with the sensors on gm trucks from that time frame and gm issued a recall notice. my truck currently has just under 117,000 miles on it. i bought it used from a gm dealer in 2010, and have not received any recall notification. *tr

I was driving my 2005 gmc envoy through a parking lot when the engine failed, causing the car to jerk and come to a sudden and complete halt. the gas needle suddenly registered on empty (although there was fuel in the tank) but the suv wouldn't restart so i had it towed. per the independent mechanic's diagnostics, the fuel sending unit was bad, which caused the car to stall. in addition to that, the fuel level sensor was bad and required replacement along with the tank. gmc had direct mailed me a letter several months prior regarding a fuel system issue; in that letter, gmc offered to pick up 50% of the costs of repairs. i contacted customer service to get information about the process and to confirm that it would be honored prior to towing the vehicle to the dealership, which i reiterated several times. during that call, i provided the vin, mileage and a description of the problem per the independent mechanic. gmc customer service bridged in the local dealership, who agreed that the work could be done within a day's time. neither provided any caveats to honoring the "special coverage" offer. based on our verbal agreement, i towed the car to the dealership who later agreed the fuel level sensor failed but stated the sending unit and tank weren't in need of repair as they'd put in 5 gallons of gas and started the engine. they also provided an estimate of $1150 for all of the work with the expectation that i'd pay 100% of the cost. after several calls/escalations, gmc refuses to pay any portion of any repairs not because the system wasn't faulty, but because my mileage exceeded their 120,000 mile "special coverage" limit (which was only disclosed after multiple calls). gmc has shown no regard towards the safety hazard the faulty system presents to my life nor my passengers' lives or any unsuspecting motorists traveling the same course should the suv stall again. *tr

As reported by many other gm customers my vehicle has experienced the same fuel gauge/sending unit failure. it began slowly with minor inaccuracies in fuel amount. then it quickly and steadily got worse until the fuel gauge doesn't work at all. i understand that gm acknowledges the problem, but refuses to pay the full price. i believe the nhtsa should force them to fully repair their faulty equipment which renders the driver blind as to how much fuel they may have. this could be very dangerous. *tr

The speedometer is reading incorrectly. for example, if going 25 mph, it shows 70mph. it does not show the same speed each time either. never goes to 0 mph. this problem just occurred one day. *tr

I'm back! yes here we go again a repetitive issue w/gmc here it's july 20012 and yet no reply from gmc or dealership on my continual problems with all gauges located on instrument cluster. sure reimbursed partially for charges replacing fuel sensor but notified to contact dealer where repair was completed but no return calls from gmc and the so what dealership which they call their establishment. this was only one of many problems. gauges fluctuate speedometer, rpm, fuel, battery, water temp just say all the damn gauges suck. how does gmc guarantee today try are vehicles today if not satisfied bring them back bs why not take all these gmc envoys from 2003-2008 back or better yet resolve our issues. strongly i feel let's all unite & file a major law suit against gmc for hardship, false information, defective product sold, stress, anger maybe they will address our issues asap. disabled vietnam vet who depends on envoy for medical appointments. today rarely drive my envoy due to my personal fear running out of fuel or being in an accident. please department of transportation & highway safety or safercar.gov address our issues with extreme urgency, would be appreciated, check my previous issues reported. yeah, was planning purchasing new gmc truck in 2013 gmc blew this from occurring totally,thank you for your valuable time. *tr

I have a fuel gauge that read full but my tank was empty my son and myself was on the hwy ran out of gas and had to get out and walk as it was 100 degrees outside i had to push him into a ditch as we almost got hit by a semi truck they say its not a life hazard however had i not pushed him and jumped myself we would have gotten hit and killed how is that not a hazard also what if we would have had someone stop and try and hurt us .........there are alot of strange ppl in this world and alot of things can happen when you run out of gas due to a faulty part. *tr

The rear light, located at the top of the vehicle snapped off while traveling at a speed of 55 mph. fortunately there was an accident as result, but very easily could have created one. would like for gmc to cover the cost to repair. *tr

The gas gauge on this vehicle is off. on two separate incidences when the gas gauge is just above the red empty indicator, the vehicle acts like it is running out of gas. this is demonstrated by difficulty excel-orating after stopping, or going up hill. then 15-20 miles later the gas light comes on and the vehicle is struggling to go because it is literally running on empty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the steering wheel began to steer on its own to the left and right. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnostic test. the mechanic stated that the front driver’s side wheel bearing, the outer tie rods, and the upper ball joints would have to be replaced. the tie rod and the wheel bearing were replaced. also, whenever the contact drove over an uneven surface or turned, a clunking sound could be heard coming from the rear end of the vehicle. there were no further repairs performed. the approximate failure mileage was 69,700.

I received a letter from gmc approximately a year ago stating that there was a recall to the fuel gauge on my vehicle. i didn't think anything of it since i had not experienced the issue and the letter stated not to take it to the dealer unless you currently had the problem. as of a week ago the fuel gauge stopped working. i fueled up until the tank was full and the gauge reads as if the tank is empty and the low fuel light is on. in addition the speedometer has is having issues now as well. it sticks at highway speed and then just goes to zero and stays there. if it weren't for my gps i would have no clue what rate of speed i am traveling. i have contacted gmc customer service as well as the dealership and the repair for the fuel gauge will cost me $240 with gmc paying the other half. it seems to me that they were aware that there was an issue before i did so why am i now stuck with the repair bills? why was this not fixed before the vehicle was sold to me since i purchased it used from the dealership? something should be done about this.i should not be held accountable for gmc's errors! in addition there are recalls on the other gmc models for the cluster gauge that affects the speedometer. the envoy was not included because there were not a sufficient number of complaints. once again why should i be stuck holding the bag on faulty equipment? what can be done to get this resolved? *tr

Windshield wipers will not stop wiping when control is moved to stop. must stop vehicle, turn ignition off in order to turn the wipers off. *tr

The gas gauge started failing. it started marking random fuel values which were completely incorrect. it would mark half a tank when it was full. it would randomly jump to different setting after each start. and finally it got stuck on empty with the empty light on. *tr

Since february 2011 fuel sensor problems inaccurate reading fuel gauge displays full then empty indicator light turns on then off, driving on the 10 freeway east with grandchildren aboard very close to accident had to immediately pull off to side no fuel in tank. reported problem to mark christopher auto center ontario calf. replace fuel sensor also recommend fuel pump module replace at the same time since fuel tank was off vehicle estimate for service $324.88 tax included to replace fuel pump module parts and labor $800.00. very costly since on set income just service envoy replace fuel sensor total amount due $740.34. received letter from general motors 8/9/2011 reimbursing charges of 50% only for fuel sensor charges paid. year to date continual problems with fuel gauge reading, returned to dealership on february 10, 2011 did explain fuel gage reading were inaccurate, service technician placed on scope & scanned for malfunctions stated no problems found. personally upset for the amount paid thinking gm only cares about labor charges and price on parts contributes to their profit no losses. customer service is no longer their priority.today speedometer operates inaccurate reads over 150+miles, oil gauge is locked, rpm gauge inaccurate fluctuates back & forth, fuel gauge reads fuel present actually empty indicator light displays empty or inoperative stops suddenly confusing me adding fuel especially with todays price. water temp gauge reads vehicle over 180 degrees so incorrect. today disable service connected vietnam veteran also two family members unemployed on set income how in hell to get this problem resolved before a accident occurs on some isolate dark highway, everyone texts, cell phone usage, gps reading their screens little attention to the road ahead. requesting help soon with my issue, notified general motors of this today through mail. *js

Fuel gauge shows empty when tank is full. it will work again at about half a tank, then when we refuel it will go to empty again. then it will start to go up to about 1/8 tank, then go back to empty. sounds like this is a major issue with gm vehicles. *tr

At approximately 8 am friday january 27th i opened the back hatch of my gmc envoy. approximately 4-6 inches pulling it down to shut it the entire window shattered all over me, the ground and inside my car. i called my insurance, paid the deductible to have it replaced, it was fixed and then today january 28th, one day after having it replaced i was closing the door again and at approximately the same point in closing it completely shattered again. this is twice in two days. i was told the first time it probably had to do with the weather but the weather was warmer today than yesterday and several forums have shown this problem occurring in all weather conditions. this seems to be a vehicle issue vs a weather issue. *tr

I have had a problem in the past with the fuel gauge reading empty continuously as i have read from many other complaints. recently i experienced a problem with the oil pressure gauge. at first the check engine light appeared intermittently and then the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero, at which time the message in on the lcd reading said "stop engine" and "oil pressure low". i immediately went to my gas station and checked the oil, which was only down a 1/4 tank. my mechanic stopped the car and started it again and the oil pressure gauge reset itself but once i started to drive the car again, the oil pressure dropped. my mechanic believes it is another sensor problem like the fuel sensor but is not completely sure. i only started with this issue today but it is more worrisome to me than keeping track of how much gas should be in my tank. i am curious to know if others have started to experience this problem. i have had the car since it was brand new and have drive 79000 miles. i also had a major issue with the suspension system with i believe is common in this vehicle. *tr

The rear windshield of my 2005 gmc envoy xl exploded for no apparent reason today. i lifted the full hatch (not just the window section) to place items in the back that i had purchased at home depot. i placed a can of paint, one bag, and a bag of sand in the back - nothing that was near the glass of the hatch. i then closed the hatch with enough force for it to close securely, but not with excessive force. as i walked to the driver side door to enter the car, i heard a loud pop that i thought was someone hitting the back of my car with their vehicle. as i walked around to the back, my rear window was shattered into a million tiny pieces. there were no objects or people around the window close enough to break it - it just shattered for no reason at all! the dealership says they have no record of issues with rear windshields, but i found information that differs on line. fortunately, the deductible on my insurance is only $200. however, for others, i have seen where they have had to pay up to $1500 out of pocket for the expense because the dealership refuses to replace the window. the company that is coming to replace it said the window itself costs $937, not including the installation. *tr

Repeat problems since car was purchased brand new at dealers. air /o2 sensors defective/replaced. defective fuel pump/fuel sensor/electronic gas gauge; flickering/dimming headlights; freezing/inability to control driver's side seat and controls. 1/4 of front instrument panel lights out; drivers side seat control lighting 1/4 out; check engine light and low fuel light on continuously since 1997. tie rods both replaced as well as both front sway bars. immediately following vehicle purchase, check engine light would continuously go off. i would call onstar at which point i was told to take car in for repair w/i 7-10 days (often told a problem w/powertrain or transmission) . at dealers service dept, told over and over again after tons of worry, concern and time spent, that electrical system on this car tends to trip/trigger check engine light and they would just reset it so after awhile, i began to disregard the light as i was in the dealership almost weekly. approx 2 yrs after purchase, filled up gas tank and fuel light showed "low fuel". went back up to full, dropped to 1/2 and back to empty. went back to full after car was turned off and continued to do this. after about 2 weeks, constantly stays at empty. called repair shop and was told approx $700-800 to drop tank and replace fuel sensor which i could not afford and began to track odometer and refill tank after 200 miles driven after fill up. have been doing this for 5 years. jan 29,2011, i go for emission test. fail d/t low fuel and check engine light being on. go to mechanic, approx $950 repair. check engine light goes off...and back on next day. read thousands of posts online and am finding many, many envoy owners experiencing same problems as mine. these are safety issues and gm should issue a recall on entire fuel and electrical system. please call for questions/clarification. *tr

I was driving down the highway when i noticed that the speedometer indicated that i was going 90+ mph. i slowed down to the point that people were passing me in a 65mph zone and my speedometer was indicating 60 mph. i pulled over and stopped the vehicle and the speedometer needle continued to erratically go up and down. *tr

I was getting my tank filled with gas and the fuel gauge needle pegged out past full, then bounced down to empty. it did this three times then went back to full. since then it has continued to bounce around. the only way we knew if we had enough gas was to fill it and use the trip meter. the fuel gauge has ceased to move at all since april 2011. the check engine light has been on continuously as well since the incident. i love the vehicle but it is a major pain to keep track of the fuel when 3 people in the household rely on it. i looked online to see if there was a recall, only to learn this is a common complaint and nothing is being done about it. i priced a new cluster and it was over $500. needless to say we still have to keep track of the fuel with our trip meter. gm should step up to the plate and fix this issue. they had no problem taking a bailout. my family has been buying gm products for years, however, no one in my family will ever own another gm product if they can't do the right thing for their consumers, and do it now. not 5 years from now!! *tr

My complaint as with thousands of others......if gmc is acknowledging that they are responsible for the faulty gas sensors, then why do i have to be responsible for half of the bill to correct it ? my car cannot pass my states emissions testing, because as long as the check engine light is on, it will continue to fail...i don't have the money to pay for the repairs. i want gmc to take responsibility for the entire bill...not half !! *tr

Instrument panel fuel level indicator shows incorrectly. at first it would show half tank or more when in fact there was less gas. now the fuel level indicator shows empty at all times. the audible fuel warning for low fuel also rings constantly. after running out of gas in the middle of nowhere on several occasions the vehicle was taken in to the local dealership. the repair was too costly. we were however charged a $100 fee just for the gmc dealer to look at it. we now track fuel using the trip computer. look online for some help i was amazed to find out that many, many, many people have and are having the same issue. *tr

Exhaust manifold is cracked. had exhaust manifold and gaskets replaced. took 5 working days to fix. checked on line and found many complaints on the envoy and trailer blazer 's manifold. *tr

I noticed that when i filled up the tank the light came on as if the tank was empty. i actually stopped when i was pulling out of the gas station and looked at my receipt and questioned the attendant. the tank was full. the gauge was erratic from then on going from full to empty in a matter of two to three miles and it has been happening regularly. the funny thing was that i just got a letter from gmc advising me of this problem and magnanimously offering to pay for 50% of the cost. i couldn't believe the timing. thinking it was a minor thing i called the local dealer to set up an appointment and found out that i am facing a minimum of $600.00 for dropping my gas tank and checking to see what the problem is. seriously!!!???? when i researched this it appears that this is a rampant problem with these vehicles. why is this not a recall?? why am i burdened with this ridiculous cost when it is apparent that this is a manufacturing problem. this is a very dangerous situation as a false reading on the gas gauge could make the driver think they have a full tank when in fact it is empty an the vehicle could stall out in the middle of traffic and cause a horrific accident. i would like to add my request for action from gmc to fix this problem immediately at their expense - not the consumers'. *tr

The fuel gage stopped working and the low fuel light stays on. the check engine light keeps going on and off the port to check engine code does not work. the inside courtesy lights stopped working one back up light will not work the left brake light gets no power and won't work. only 3 of the 5 speed settings on the fan work. gmc dealer says they can do nothing, and that they do not have other complaints on these problems. however i am able to find thousands of the same complaints online in various consumer sites. gmc won't even return my calls. *tr

I thought my vehicle had a unique problem, after recently being taken advantage of by gmc + their dealer, i have done some research and realize the problem is widespread. the electronic gas gauge + needle stopped working at 90 000. i received a letter stating they would pay for half the repair to the fuel level sensor and i took the vehicle to be repaired on 10/20/11.waited all day and watched the mechanic test drive my vehicle,i was walked to the cashier + paid 146.14, pulled out of parking lot and thought they forgot to reset the computer as gauge + dash were not working.i immediately returned and was told the sensor was working but there was a problem with the cluster panel + that would cost 900.00.this is a major safety hazard and gmc should own up to the defect and recall the vehicles affected. i've run out of gas on several occasions, once on the highway with small children at night. *tr

Let me start like this. my family including my grandfather always had chevrolet or gmc cars. i was raised learning how strong they were, smooth driving and extremely comfortable. i bought a chevy trailblazer 2002 in 2006 which i loved, but unfortunately somebody had crashed and after fixing i sold. next, i decided to buy an envoy slt v6 2005 with 27kmiles in 2008, which i have until today and i love so much. smooth drive, comfortable, powerful, great looking, spacious and great engine. as my grandfather used to say, "son always have a normal maintenance and this car will last forever". i never had any serious problem, except now that the fuel sensor level is dead and i have the chime always signalizing low fuel even if i fill out the tank. well i wait for more than 3 months filling out the tank and tracking the mileage. 2 weeks ago i received a letter from gmc with my vin number standing that this is a problem that they find out and they are willing to pay 50% of the cost. i did call them in fact to know the authenticity of the letter and they confirm the issue recommending to take to the dealer. i did, and this problem has a cost equivalent of almost a thousand, which with 50% of discount with the letter will be close to five hundred. gmc is avoiding having this paid 100% since it's a recognized and it should be a recall. i refuse to pay for something that it's a manufacturing defect part. my car has 86k miles today and its still with the problem. i called gmc more than 3 times and the answer is always the same "we'll pay 50% of the total cost". this is ridiculous!!! i want this solved. it's a safety issue !!! i want this paid 100%. *tr

2005 gmc envoy xl has several issues with the instrument cluster. the battery and temperature gauges are reading off the scale past their maximum readings. it should also be noted that this vehicle also had issues with the fuel gauge sending unit and the engine thermostat. *tr

July 26, 2011 i filled my vehicle up with gas and noticed that my gas gauge showed that my vehicle was on empty....after driving it for about an hour the gas gauge started working properly. over the next month it continued to do this off and on. then i received a letter from gmc stating they are aware of this problem with 2005 gmc envoy'(weird how the letter appeared as i was starting to have the issue) and that they would pay 50% of my cost to have it repaired at a gmc dealership. within two weeks my fuel gauge stopped working all together. i never know how much gas i do or do not have in my vehicle. what if i run out of gas in the middle of traffic!! this could be dangerous !! gmc is aware of this problem and should consider it a recall and repair this issue at no cost to the consumer. *tr

The instrument lights regularly blink in and out on my 2005 envoy. there have even been times when the headlights blink off and on for no known reason. has happened a few times over the last 3 or 4 years. scary stuff! plus, i have read on several forums that this is a common problem with these vehicles. one fellow said he took it into the shop and they could not find the problem. recall - and now the problems with the gas gauge and check engine light. my husband was laid off from his job and we can't even afford the 1/2 that gm is offering to fix the thing in their recall. if they knew it was a failure of their equipment why are they not paying the entire amount? *tr

My fuel gauge stopped working 8 months ago, took to gmc dealer for service estimate. service manager said these fuel gauges always go out on envoys and the cost to repair was $578.00 (plus tax) - i choked and did not get repaired. 3 months later after trying to operate the vehicle without the fuel gauge - it became a nightmare to know if we had gas in the vehicle or not, i took it to an independent repair shop and they said "we see this fuel gauge problem all the time on the envoys"... they said the gmc parts were a rip-off and expensive, they would have to use gmc parts for the fuel gauge and they quoted $408.00 (plus tax) for the repair. the service manager for the repair shop said he could not understand why they have not had a recall on this since they have seen hundreds of gmc's with the same problem. he said we may want to wait on the repair to see if gm has a recall. on august 30, i received a written notification from gmc stating an issue with envoys and the fuel level sensor failure problem; however, gmc stated they would only cover 50% of the cost of repair. what a joke, 50% of a $600 repair bill for a problem they admit in writing is a scam to try and get as many people to pay for the repair ($300) before the gov't. mandates a recall. i called gmc and requested a 100% paid repair and they refused. i will be glad to forward the "fuel sensor failure" letter if you need. can you please help? the are several hundred thousand owners of gmc envoys that would be very appreciative - thank you in advance... *tr *kb

"gmc envoy fuel sensor may fail prematurely". i got this information from gm in a letter. they will pay 1/2 cost to have it replaced if the vehicle is less than 10 years old and has =<120k miles. my vehicle has 148k and is a 2005 model. gm tells me they will not help me with this problem due to the higher miles. i consider the fact that the fuel sensor may read empty even when full or full when in fact the tank is empty to be a safety hazard. i am asking for your help to have gm recall the affected models and repair at no cost to me or the thousands of others who in fact have the same problem. i have never filed a complaint before and hope that i have provided enough information for the board to take positive action. *kb

The wipers were the first to go. that needed a control module. the touch pads for the tail gate were next. first the drop down then the swing. then the right side passenger door inside handle stopped working. then the left side rear door outside handle doesn't work. then the four wheel drive doesn't work. then the fuel gauge doesn't work. now the passenger's window doesn't open. 5th speed on the heater stopped working. what is the matter with gmc? that is a high end vehicle and as such should not be plagued with such problems. *kb

The fuel gauge in my 2005 envoy xl goes to low fuel anytime after 1/4 tank left. after filling up, it will read low fuel for about 15 miles. it then fluctuates for awhile before settling on what i hope is an accurate reading. *tr

The fuel system started to malfunction around the first week of sept 2010. i was going on vacation stopped to get gas, after filling up the gas gauge read empty and the warning light came on. after shutting the envoy off and restarting it the gauge seemed to work. as the days went on the gauge completely quit working and the low fuel light has remained on. i reset my trip meter after every fill up, how annoying. i am not the only consumer with this complaint. i rec'd a letter that gm states its the fuel level sensor. the only fix a new fuel pump from a dealer at 50% off? who can afford dealer prices? this is obviously a defect that gm is failing to own up to. any help would be appreciated. *kb

Fuel gauge does not go above 1/8 tank. speedometer "sticks" usually at highway speed and when stopped does not return to zero then when vehicle is moving again the new speed is accumulating on "stuck" speed. sometimes speedometer "sticks" before reaching steady speed and when vehicle is stopped the reading is below zero in this scenario when the vehicle is moving again the "registered" speed is below actual speed. as i drive 1,000 miles a week, it is quite important to know how much fuel i have in my tank and of course how fast i am traveling. *kb

I purchased this car used with approximately 24,000 miles in 2006. within a year of purchasing the car the cluster panel (gauges) stopped working. i took the car in to have it checked and was told that there was no recall and that it would cost approximately $700 to repair as the entire cluster panel would have to be remove and replaced. after talking with co-workers with the same vehicle experiencing the same problem; i later discovered that there had been a recall on this issue but you had to be the first owner of the vehicle. after having the cluster panel repaired, my gas gauge has stopped working and i am told that the entire tank has to be removed for repair and that there has not been a recall on this issue either. the window and door lock system on the front passenger door also is non-operational. this vehicle seems to have several minor electrical issues but i am most disturbed by the fact that after spending the money to have the cluster panel fixed my gas gauge is still not working properly.

Driving down the road i glanced to check my speedometer and saw it registered about 100 mph. i was only going about 40. the speedometer continued to climb and went below the highest registered number, which is 120, and that's where it now sits apparently for good. now i cannot tell my speed. the needle remains buried below 120 mph and does not move at all no matter what speed. *tr

I filled my gas tank up to full around 2 months ago. after i was done, i started the vehicle, and noticed the gauge dipped to empty and showed that i was low on fuel. i went in and had the attendant verify that indeed i did have gas dispensed into my tank. the gauge continued to fluctuate for the next few days, and ever since has shown empty to 1/4 or 3/8 of a tank, never showing the same reading for more than a few minutes at a time. i have a family and do worry for their safety. there is no way of knowing truly how much gas is in there at any given moment, and the cost is way to steep to repair. i have spoken to multiple gm dealers and customer service reps, and have found that they like to pretend that this has never happened to anyone before. very uncooperative. my concern is for myself of course, but also for those purchasing these vehicles used from private parties without being notified of this acute and widespread parts failure, which indeed must be defective if it is happening to so many. safety is of course the biggest issue here, and gm should take note. *tr

I bought my vehicle used in 2006 and have had problems with it stalling several days a year. now my gas gauge is not working. i fill it up and it starts blinking with the red light that its empty.

Faulty fuel gauge. after filling up tank with gas, fuel gauge reads empty. after some driving, fuel gauge indicates a changing level of fuel with the range indicator fluctuating from 0 to ~114 miles left. usually gauge reads 0 regardless of how much fuel is in the tank, but sometimes it will indicate a higher reading than what the tank actually holds. this issue has caused 1 incident where the vehicle ran out of fuel while the gauge indicated there was still fuel in the tank. i believe the problem to be with the sending unit on the gas tank.

I bought a 2005 gmc envoy used but in good shape. after about 5000. miles the speedometer started to read 120 mph. it reset itself a couple of times but now it's completely stuck at the 120. also the gas gauge sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. i can fill it up and it will ding and the light comes on and it won't show a drop of gas on the gauge. then a day or so later it will be fine. also the check engine light is on. i replaced the gas cap since the owners manual said it could be a faulty gas cap. it helped for a few days but it's back on. after reading all these reviews and complaints i'm sorry i bought it. i don't have the money to keep getting it fixed. it cost a $100.00 for the dealer just to hook it up so they could tell me it needed a speedometer head.(?) that will only cost $468.00. but that won't fix the check engine light or the gas gauge. i'm worried that i'll get a ticket because the speedometer doesn't work or run out of gas when the gas gauge isn't working. *tt

My husband filled the envoy with gas, and when we drove off we noticed the gas gauge was reading empty. we thought that maybe the pump was defective and we hadn't actually pumped gas, so we drove a few miles down the road to another gas station to see if we could get more gas. we were only able to pump less than a gallon, so we figured out the gauge wasn't reading correctly. after driving about 45 minutes the gauge slowly moved from empty to half full, would drop back to empty at random points (sometimes while stopped, sometimes while driving). ever since this time our gauge has fluctuated wildly, reading empty the majority of the time, but occasionally moving about from a quarter full to half then back to empty. we have not attempted a fix as we cannot afford anything extra at this point due to my husband being diagnosed with a terminal disease and the resulting medical bills piling up. *tr

Out of nowhere my front head lights went out. its not the fuse or the bulbs, both front low lights went out. the high beams work. there is no power going to the lights and i have to buy a new switch. the gas gauge is broken. the abs/brake light is on. i feel so stuck with this car! *tr

The speedometer does not accurately record the speed while traveling for my 2005, gmc, envoy, slt model. it will indicate that i am traveling 20 mph or even 0 while on the highway and seems to increase my rpms while malfunctioning. this has caused several tickets as i can not personally track how fast/slow i am going while driving. this malfunction happens everyday. my oil gauge is also unable to read, it never moves and reads under the start of the meter (south) at all times, even when the vehicle is not started. *kb

I have a 2005 envoy, today i was driving going the normal speed and got to a stop sign all a sudden the truck started revving up on its on and then would stop. then i began to give it gas and to my surprise it did not have enough power to get up a hill.minutes later the truck began to move as if nothing was wrong.i have onstar so i called for a diagnostic check, they stated that the cooling system needed to be checked , the antifreeze may be low and can effect the way the truck is performing.well after going to the gas station to purchase the antifreeze then i start the truck and it begins to rev again on its own and suddenly i can not move...i had to have it towed to the dealer....is there a recall on this ..im afraid to drive this is dangerous....i have young children......someone please advise......i have never experienced this before.... *tr

Sitting at a rr crossing awaiting train to pass , my fuel gauge came on that i needed gas even as the tank was over 1/2 full when it happened. has not read correctly since goes from full to empty and to a 1/4 tank, to 1/8th to 1/2 tank. does not read accurate has just turned 49000 miles 2005 gmc envoy. *tr

One day i filled up my gas tank and it read empty when i drove away. it has read empty ever since with the exception of moving slightly above e for a few mininute while driving or after filling the tank again. i have seen all the complaints on here and am hoping for a recall. i fill up every other day just to be sure i don't run out of gas. this first happened about 6 months ago. my envoy is a 2005 with about 85k miles.

Just as i just filed a complaint yesterday my car for the first time turned off. i was the must scary thing that ever happen to me. my 2005 gmc envoy has been having problem with the gas gauge. i would fill up but it would show empty. so this was what happen yesterday. i was leaving work around 3pm and just as i ease pulling out of the parking lot i felt something was wrong. i step on the gas pedal the car didn't go as fast then out of no way the car got harder to drive. the steering wheel got harder to turn. i knew i had to get out of the streets before someone hit me. i turned to make a turn into the gas station but as i was turning my car completely stop half way into the gas station. so just picture my car in a turn position in the street trying to pull up into the gas station. i was then truly thankful three stranger came out to help me. i don't know what i would have done, especially being a young women, and a mom. i also glad my son was not in the car with me especially if something bad would have happen. i'm just glad i was not on the freeway yet or at night. please help me figure out why my car is doing this. *tr

6/13/2011 vehicle taken to gmc service for transmission flush and filter change. returning home same afternoon vehicle transmission started slipping and stopped moving. after repeated attempts to move vehicle it was towed to local dealership. service manager stated that probably broken hard parts inside the transmission were to blame. rebuild trans. in range of 2$k, replacement $3k. spoke with gmc customer service, no explanation why transmission failed or assist to replace transmission. this vehicle has 105,151 miles on odometer. *tr

In july of 2009, my fuel gauge stopped working, it was reading empty all the time. even after a fill up. i went to the dealer and they told me that the fuel sensor was not working any more. they would have to drop the fuel tank and replace the sensor. the dealer stated that it wasn't necessary to fix. so i have been getting gas every 300 miles. today i took the car in for a oil change and was told that the fuel sensor problem was putting a strain on my computer for the car. the computer controls everything in the car. that eventually i would be paying a lot more if something happens to the computer.

One day my oil gauge stopped working. a few months later the speedometer stopped working and eventually every gauge in my panel stopped working. this all started around nov of 2008. i could not figure out what was going on. i checked all fuses, bulbs and wiring. now two days ago my head lights stopped working on low beam. nothing was found to be the problem. i recently found hundreds of envoy owners with the exact same issues and now know it is the instrument cluster panel. est cost for the part only $570. *tr

I have a 2005 envoy and it just started smelling of gas fumes really bad and as i was reading some information on your site i have also agree it is a manufacturing problem you see where it was sealed not by oil clay or any gooey substance of that source its secured by welding i know this because i work for nummi and i was a qc inspector and did the tear down on the gas tanks for safety it sounds like some tanks slip by because not every one is ck there random checks i believe its the o yes o ring that was not properly welded properly causing leaks that is the gas fume i am smelling in my current envoy (2005) .and yes it is a safety issue people can die from these fumes you know it and so due i .let me tell you about what had happen one day there was this gentleman who was on the job and lots of gas tank slip through that day rolling off the assembly line and ship out to dealer ships where the o rings were not holding up during the tear down process of the inspection. well need less to say the units went out to be sold to consumer .and they wanted to fire the inspector but they just suspended him for a week.another problem occurred on my inspection route in body n weld i had found a split on the floor pan of the corolla very large and hard to see guess i just got lucky but so the manager at that time was a female and she went to the end of the assembly line and sure enough those split had been ship out to the dealer ships they turn a blind eye to the ones that were ship you see if you know nothing about medal it will continue to split of course the carpet cover it who will know .the reminding ones well they place a spot weld on each side of the split and some sealer. with that said i certainly believe the manufacture is certainly responsible and pay for these repairs no matter the mileage or the year. by the way i work in the body-n-weld shop. it is not a ware and tear issue. *tr

The fuel gauge on my 2005 gmc envoy failed to correctly report the quantity of gas in the tank starting at about 30,000 miles. it always reports a value that i know is wildly inaccurate, and even sets off the low fuel alarm when i know the tank is nearly full. i stopped relying on the gas gauge a long time ago, because that would inevitably lead to the vehicle running out of fuel causing vehicle stall with no restart, with obvious safety implications. instead, i fuel the vehicle on the basis of number of miles driven, an inherently flawed method with higher probability of failure. my dealer has advised me that repair would cost over $400.

Our 2005 envoy had a gas gauge malfunction around 2 to 3 years after we bought it as brand new. good thing it was still covered by our insurance but after a year and a half, the same problem occurred, and it was not covered by the insurance anymore since it's already pass 3 years. having it fixed is quite costly. i just recently found out that there were 285 people who complained on the same problem. i do hope that gmc will do a recall on 2005 gmc envoys. *tr

Inaccurate fuel gauge reading. car can run out of gas unless carefully monitored by operator. gauge became faulty with time when car was 3.5 years old. at first when tank was filled, the empty light would come on and then suddenly register as full after approximately 20 miles of operation. gauge now only registers 1/4th tank or not at all after tank is filled. without careful watch, the car could run out of gas on a highway and be struck or cause significant problems. dealer estimated cost of repair = $650.00 and stated that it was a common problem for this make and model. i do not wish to pay this exorbitant amount for repair. it appears from my research that this is a very dangerous problem and rampant with this make and model. *tr

As i was driving down the interstate i noticed that my fuel gauge started moving back and forth repeatedly. originally it always said that i had a full tank of gas, but now it tends to read that i am almost out of gas even when i have just filled up.

Please add our vehicle with a gas gauge that is faulty. condition began last fall and we just escaped running out of gas the first time it happened. fuel light indicates that the fuel is empty or near empty when in reality it is full or near full. just the opposite happens when the light indicates fuel is in the tank when in reality, it is almost empty. our local mechanic was not sure what the problem was the repair could approach $150. we now refuel when the trip odometer hits 300 or so miles.

Fuel gauge erratic after warranty expired. knew it would be expensive repair. lived on resetting trip odometer every 200 miles and would fill up. this inconvenience lasted two years until constant audio and visual low fuel signals. ended up paying $450 for repair. completely confident that gm knew the original was faulty. *tr

While driving i looked down to check my speed and was surprised to see the speedometer reading 120 mph. while doing research on the internet i found there was a class action suit that was settled in 2008 because of this problem however, my vehicle was not listed as covered in the suit. i feel it should be covered as my vehicle is experiencing the same problems as the ones covered in the settlement. under the settlement agreement gm would provide the cluster at no cost to me and i would be responsible for the labor cost.

Fuel gauge suddenly stopped working properly after fill up. moves from empty, to 1/2 full, to 1/4 full to empty, back to 1/4 full, back to empty. i can't determine how much gas in may tank. this could cause me to unexpectedly run out of gas while driving in traffic and cause an accident. this is apparently a very common problem in gmc envoy and chevrolet trailblazers. there is no warning in the owners manual or suggestion that the gauge and sensors be replaced. i understand that this is an expensive repair - between $600 and $900.

The fuel gauge is inoperable due to the failure of the fuel sending unit. this is a common issue in the 2004 -2007 gmc envoy, chevy trailblazers and buick ranier. i know at least 4 other people who have experienced this issue. the dealer states that this is not a class action issue but to many comments are on the internet. the vehicle will stall at intersections and parking lots when proceeding through the intersection after being stopped. i contacted gm customer service and they stated that this is not a recall issue with the gm products. gm should be recall all vehicles and replace the fuel sending units at no charge or a reduced charge(cost of part or labor whichever is the least cost to the owner). the government has bailed them out now it is time for gm to do the right thing. also the instrument cluster stopped working correctly also and this resulted in speeding tickets. i have replaced with a remanufactured instrument cluster at the cost of $150.00 vs $600.00 with the local gm dealer.

I have a 2005 gmc envoy xl-slt and the fuel gage has stop working properly i have no idea how much fuel is in the envoy i am afraid that it will cause a system failure and shut down in the highway unexpected and cause a collision, their needs to be a recall on these vehicles to have the problem fix from what i have read on the internet their are a lot of people having this problem . *tr

On 1/31/2011 my 2005 gmc envoy showed my gas was down to a quarter of a tank. i stopped to fill up before a snow storm came in and put 16 gallons of unleaded fuel into my tank. immediately after my gas gauge went to empty and my gas light came on. it went up to a quarter of a tank and then went back down again. it is still showing empty, with the gas light on, and i know it has a full tank of gas. *tr

Blower motor resistor harness melted and started on fire. some burnt plastic behind dash and melted wires. had to replace blower motor resistor and harness, and will probably replace fan speed controller. not sure what cause is...... *tr

Speedometer failure ignition switch failure (multiple times)

I own a 2005 gmc envoy the drivers side headlight continues to go out on a monthly basis. the last time it actually melted the connection and needs the whole lamp to be replaced. the gas gauge has stopped working and part of the interior dash lights. we replaced the fan switch a while back for the heater and the cd player started working again and the drivers side temperature light came back on for two days. *tr

2005 gmc envoy xl 64,900 miles. speedometer erratic operation. since first incident, symptoms under varying driving conditions are; speedometer erroneously indicates too low a speed, speedometer indicates too high a speed, speedometer indication sticks at a fixed speed with changing vehicle speed.

The fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle. the fuel level sending unit has a variable resistor attached to a float inside the fuel tank. as you use fuel, the float changes position (downwards) causing the variable resistor to change value. the change in resistance causes a change in the voltage sent to the fuel gage. my p0463 error is saying that the variable resistor is showing high input, instead of a typical small value. this means that the variable resistor or something else inside the sender unit is causing the ecm to "see" an invalid voltage on the fuel gage circuit. if the voltage is too high then the resistance is too high. possibly a bad connection between the ecu and the sender or a grounding problem.

Speedometer stuck at 60mph while traveling. didn't matter if stopped, accelerating, decelerating, or turning vehicle off. turning off the car and restarting it seemed to cause the speedometer to decrease, some, finally getting it to register 20mph. upon restarting the vehicle in the morning the speedometer still registered 20 mph and upon acceleration the speedometer fluctuated finally settling at 80mph. we were unable to tell how fast we really are traveling because the speedometer is wacko. stopping and turning off the vehicle does not help. the speedometer does not reset to zero it is now stuck at 80mph. our local gm dealer advised that no recall has been issued but an extended warranty to 75,000 miles was offered on the vehicle for this particular problem. our vehicle is over the mileage for the warranty. gm is aware there is a problem with wacko speedometers hence the warranty extension. one would assume being able to monitor ones speed in a vehicle is an important safety concern. *tr

I'm having the same issue with the fuel gauge on my 2005 gmc envoy. i can register 1/4 a tank but the minute i fill, the gauge drops below empty and the fuel light comes on. i have to drive at least 25 miles to have it register even a 1/4 of a tank and a full 70-85 miles for the gauge to get to show a more accurate level. the mechanic i went to admitted it was the fuel level sensor causing the issue but advised me that i had to replace the entire fuel pump. he quoted $505 for the fuel pump and an additional $360 for the labor its not fixed i don't have the money, what happens if i run out of fuel on the highway or on a tight turn on a hill and the car shuts down and the steering locks? i've read 1000's of complaints and horror stories about this and no recall. this is extremely dangerous! *tr

Gas gauge stopped working. this has also happened on three other gm suv's (1999-2005 model years) in my family. coincidence? no way. there should be a recall. this is a very expensive repair and one consumers should not have to pay for. i have not seen this happen on any other vehicle that i or any member of my family has driven (vw, chrysler, honda, subaru, jeep) but that the same part has failed on four gm suv's in the same family tells me that this is a wide-spread problem and there is a defect in this part. *tr

For the last few months my 2005 gmc envoy denali has had repeated problems with the fuel gauge. after re-fueling the vehicle, the gauge will go to empty and illuminate the empty tank warning light. the check engine light also comes on. within a few miles the fuel gauge will begin to fluctuate wildly for a period of time, making it impossible to know how much gas is in it. the fuel gauge sometimes begins to operate again after the car has been driven for a few days. car has become unsafe because it is difficult to determine how much fuel is in it and empty tank sensor "cries wolf." also, the fuel gauge has begun to register a full tank when really the gas tank is near empty. once you start driving the fuel gauge begins to fall slowly until about 10 minutes later it finally registers the proper gas level... i've thought my husband filled up the tank and almost run out of gas because the fuel gauge didn't tell me i was out of gas until i was on the highway stuck in traffic - away from a nearby gas station. the trip odometer is not an exact science so it cannot be relied upon. Sporadic failure of speedometer - registers correctly one moment, or may read 30 mph or 0 mpg when keeping with the flow of traffic on the interstate. while this does not occur each trip, it does occur several times each week. fuel gauge malfunction - reads one-half tank at 179 miles; 20 miles later reads one-quarter tank. issues "fuel level low" warning after refueling and for next 3 to 4 times vehicle is started headlights dim briefly when accelerator is released. frequent need to replace exterior lamps the problems first manifest in the need to repeatedly change brake and taillight bulbs, and the dimming of the headlights, which continues. then, sporadically, the speedometer stopped functioning, or only registered a fraction of the speed the vehicle was traveling. after that, at start up, the "fuel level low" warning, which activates when the vehicle determines it has fuel to travel 40 additional miles, started to chime when there was more than one-half tank of fuel. the warning also now issues whenever the vehicle is refueled. the potential failure of the exterior lighting system presents a clear hazard to the occupants of the vehicle and others - the driver wouldn't be able to see where he is going, and other drivers wouldn't be able to see the vehicle heading toward them. the fuel system issues could lead to unexpectedly running out of fuel, creating the potential for a disabled vehicle or its driver being hit by another. in addition, depending on the cause of the malfunction, the vehicle could be susceptible to fire. without a functioning speedometer, the driver can easily travel too fast for conditions, or endanger himself and others in a construction zone. currently, until the sporadic problems become regular, the garage will not fix the vehicle. *tr

Out of nowhere my front head lights went out. its not the fuse or the bulbs, both front low lights went out. the high beams work. there is no power going to the lights and i have to buy a new switch. i also had to replace the engine almost a year ago because the o rings went up. the gas gauge is broken and my passenger window will not go down. i feel so stuck with this car! *tr

I was on my way to work during the winter months and my blower fan stopped working. at first i couldn't see very good out my window and my headlamps started dimming. there is an overload someone near the blower and my vehicle only has 70,000 miles on it. i think this should be a recall because you need heat and light to see when you drive and without it can cause accidents. i was down in a ditch when mine went out and thank god someone was watching over me. the price you pay for a nice vehicle their should be no defects with under a 100,000 miles. i have still from this day haven't had the money to replace it because my truck payments and insurance break my budget. *tr

2005 gmc envoy would not pass state inspection after 3rd year; fuel meter no longer works. dealer wanted $400 to repair. dealer wanted $1600 to replace air injection unit and fuel sensor and thermometer so car could pass inspection. i had all the items repaired and engine light still comes on. it has approx 60k miles. the dealer is refusing to repair air injection unit stating it is not under warranty. when i purchased car it came with 100k warranty for drive trane. after taking to certified gm mechanic who fixed everything on list the car still will not pass inspection because the air injection unit continues to take on water. this car is a lemon and gm should not be able to get away with this. i cannot afford to get it repaired therefore, i am subject to get a ticket. i still owe money and cannot trade it in. how much longer are american made car manufacturers going to screw the american people!!!??? i will never purchase another american made car as long as i live!!! i have not even mentioned the fact that the car loss complete power while i was driving at 60 miles/hour on the trnpk. everything shut completely down. i could not steer. fortunately there were no curves and i was able to drive to side of road as the car slowly came to a halt! there must be a law against this!!! what recourse do i (we) have???? *tr

I have gmc envoy 2005. the speedometer is not working. basically sometimes it gets stuck past 120, sometimes at 0 or in between. i could be driving 30 mph and the speedometer will be showing 110 mph. this is a known defect on gmc 2005 envoy, but the company is only taking a responsibility on models 2002-2004. i have called around dealer shop and they said gmc is only willing to fix if the car is between 2002 and 2005, eventhough this is a known problem. almost about everyone i talked to, who owns gmc envoy 2005 indicated to have this problem. i really think gmc should own to its defect and take care of this issue. *tr

The gas gauge stopped working and shows that the vehicle is on empty. the "low fuel' indicator on the dash will blink randomly and "ding" to draw my attention to it. the gas cap was replaced a week later but the problem has not been resolved. it continues to read "empty." since then the speedometer has also stopped working. the speedometer hand has completely dropped below the 120 mph mark, although for a few weeks it would register that i was driving much faster than the speed of traffic around me. moreover, it would register 30 mph when the vehicle was completely stopped. yet, it has since stopped working altogether. the vehicle has also recently stalled in reverse and several times has surged/accelerated quickly when i am driving slowly and push the gas pedal to accelerate. i have an appointment with the local gmc dealership and have called the national gmc dealer to document my complaint(s). *tr

Never had fuel gauge problems before, filled my tank, drove away from gas station and within one mile, the fuel bell went off and the warning light turned on. went back to gas station thinking i had been ripped off, but owner showed me on gas pump that it had pumped $60 worth of gas. now the fuel gauge doesn't work at all, the warning light is always on. i've been given quotes to fix it ranging from $400 to $600. with all these problems, gm should issue a recall and fix for everyone free. *tr

My 2005 gmc envoy gas gauge began to become erratic in november of 09. at that time it would work some times and not others. after a few weeks it stopped working in any manner and constantly fluctuates up and down, causing the low fuel indicator to go on and off. this occurs even when the vehicle has just been filled with gas and the gas cap tightened. the only way to monitor gas at this time is through tracking mileage. vehicle will randomly stall when idle. the stalling is noted to be occurring more frequently the longer this goes unrepaired. stalling at lights, in parking lots and while backing up puts us at risk of being hit by another vehicle. also the inability to accurately monitor the amount of gas in the vehicle puts myself and my family at risk of being stranded while traveling. the only other person i know with this same make and model has the same problem. correction is replacement of the part which is between $600 and $800. *tw

The speedometer constantly shows different speeds. will be driving down expressway at 65mph and next thing you know it shows 90mph so you slow down 65 again and realize that everyone flies by. the best i can figure is it will suddenly show a different speed than one is actually going from 20mph less to 40mph more. different every time. *tr

There was ignition switch failure while driving the vehicle. the power steering and brakes gave out, the engine shut off, and all the lights on the dash came on. it resembled the car running out of gas without doing so. after i pulled off the road with great difficulties, i put the car in park and the vehicle got stuck in it. the engine would not turn over after this occurred and needed to be towed. there is no release switch which the tow truck driver said there should be so he could get it onto the truck, so the vehicle has to be drug with the wheels locked onto the flatbed and then pushed off in the same manner. we paid to have it fixed and it has now happened again 5 months later. there are many reports of this online and it is not just with the gmc envoy denali it also includes the chevy trailblazer and possibly other vehicles manufactured by gm. there was one person online that said they keep spare ignition switches in the vehicle and the tools to swap it out because of how frequently it happens. the dealership replaced the part and it is not available as far as i know, because it was not returned to me. the vehicle was a 2005 gmc envoy denali. *tr

2005 gmc speedometer failure. stops working and gets stuck on the 120miles point even when the car is off and not just driving. occurs after about a few minutes of driving and, after online and offline research, it turns out a lot of people have these problem with some gmc trucks, especially the gmc envoys models. and gm is not doing anything or refusing to fix it since it is a manufacturers default. there hasn't been any recalls to address this issue and there are even lawsuits in some states about this. my truck is not even old only 52,000 miles and i don't drive a lot just to work and home. *tr

Rear suspension on my 2005 gmc envoy denali has an air load leveling system. it continuously deflates. manufactures owners manual says after 3 days of non-use will it deflate. while driving, the air compressor starts intermittently to inflate it back up. this started in october of 2008, and continues to this day. *tr

I have a 2005 gmc envoy. the envoy began experiencing problems at approximately 58, 000 miles when the gas tank began reading empty no matter how much gas was in the tank. eventually, after much complaining to my local dealership they stated they would only repair the problem if i paid for half of the repairs. i refused. later, at approximately 80,000 miles, my speedometer began malfunctioning. the speedometer works intermittently, just recently it was stuck at 120 mph even in park. now, the battery gauge has begun to malfunction. the battery charge ranges from the lowest to the highest with no real rhyme or reason. it is apparent by reading on the internet forums that this is a major product defect as it happens to many, many gmc owners, especially 2002-2005 envoy owners. i have filed complaints with gmc directly and received responses that are not satisfactory. these items should be a recall effort and repaired by gmc as they are clearly product default not just general ware and tear of the vehicle. these problems are costly and present safety issues while driving. *tr

Problem just started with no warning. speedometer reads 60 mph while vehicle is parked with engine off. when you crank the vehicle. speedometer indicator drops down approx. 5 mph (55 mph) then when you drive the vehicle the speedometer indicator (needle) goes past the 120 reading on the speedometer. i feel this is very dangerous because you cannot determine the true speed vehicle is really going . vehicle odometer and trip odometer are not affected (checked by mile marker on interstate). failure is consistence . occurs everytime vehicle is operated. notified dealership and they said (no recall) . vehicle has approx 52,000 miles. *tr

Gas gauge has not worked since 2007. headlights and some dash lights as well as ext temp gauge sometimes flicker. no positive response from dealer for gas gauge. was initially told headlights were supposed to do this, a "feature". i asked them to document this for me, they said they would look at it. replace body control module, no change. said it could be this or that, but out of warranty at my expense. i told them i would pay for it, but if it did not fix the problem i would not. they refused to work further on it. *tr

I have a 2005 gmc envoy. i am having problems with my shift lever; it goes in park and stays there for about three minutes before it releases the key (to be taken out of the ignition). when i start the truck, it will not go into any gear for about three minutes, then i hear a click which then release the shift so it can be moved into another gear. it began about two months ago and has gotten worst over time. once in any gear accept park it can be shifted to another gear without any strain. the consequence of this problem is not being able to get out the vehicle with my key once in park until after the lever cable "snaps in place." i have not been able to do much of anything about it thus far due to financial difficulties. *tr

The check engine light kept coming on and i took it to the dealer for repair and was told "it's ok. forget it." on 01-09-2009 while traveling on texas highway 60, i had the cruise control set for 70 mph. traffic was normal but continually passed me as if i was going slower. i pulled over at a convenience store and parked the vehicle. the speedometer registered 45 mph in park. i continued home gauging speed by the other traffic. the vehicle was parked. on 01-14-2009, my wife and daughter were in the vehicle returning from school. the speedometer appeared to be working. at approximately 3:00 pm while driving home, the electric door locks began to lock and unlock themselves. at the same time, the a/c went to maximum heat and high blower. my wife stopped the vehicle and put it in park. the side curtain air bags deployed, striking my daughter in the left temple resulting in a mild concussion. onstar notified the police of a collision. i contacted the dealer who referred me to gmc customer assistance. the agent told me that this kind of thing happens when traveling too fast and turning too sharp. an investigator was dispatched to gather computer information and determine if there had been a collision. his results were there was no collision and the bags deployed per command from the vehicle control system based on the vehicle traveling 20 mph and turning too sharp. the vehicle was actually traveling 20 mph on a residential street in a straight line. turning right would have resulted in going through a fence and left would have put the vehicle in a park. gmc refused to investigate the discrepancies between the computer and the driver's account further. i contacted a local gm dealer who has as much concern about this incident as i do. no repairs have been initiated to date as it is unclear what is at fault. several gm technicians and service managers believe there is a problem with the vehicle control system but are unable to proceed without approval. *tr

I have had my 05 gmc envoy for several months now and have taken it to be repaired at least once a month! my issue is with the electrical system and the headlights and console "flashing" at night. i have taken it to the dealership twice and the first time they checked the battery, some cables and gave it back to me saying they could not find anything. the second time i took it back about a month later because the light were still flashing. the dealership had it for 2 days and told me it was my alternator. i did not believe them and did not get my alternator changed ($675.00) and my car has been starting and running fine. my headlights still flicker, but there is nothing i can do about it. i have read several other complaints about this and most of them go through a new battery and alternator and it still does not fix the problem. this is something gmc needs to look into and fix because it is a huge safety hazard. *tr

2005 gmc envoy denali w/37,800 miles. on several occasions, while completely stopped, the vehicle would slightly lunge forward as if going to accelerate although the brake was engaged. when local gmc service dept. was called by owner to inquire about problem, service tech said he had no reports of such situation. the surge happened again on 10/31/08 and there was a passenger in the vehicle who also experienced the sensation. on 11/17/08 while at a complete stop, after turning wheels sharply to the right to go around a road equipment vehicle in the parking lot, upon removing foot from brake, the denali lunged forward enough to bump the tire of the equipment vehicle and then it accelerated as if the cruise control was activated. there were no brakes when an effort was made to stop the vehicle. steering of vehicle was hard due to power steering failure . vehicle jumped upon a curb, driver forcefully turned steering wheel to avoid hitting a brick building as acceleration was still ongoing. vehicle crashed through a steel garage door and continued until it crashed into a retaining column at which time the motor was turned off. the impact of the collision could be felt up to the second floor of the building. the driver was wearing a seat belt. the onstar services did not initiate response to driver despite the fact that the front bumper of the vehicle was no longer attached to the vehicle, nor did the driver airbag deploy upon impact. vehicle was towed away from the scene. driver was transported to hospital by ems for injury evaluation. several witnesses described incident as "vehicle out of control". *tr updated 10/29/10

The gmc envoy's speedometer stopped working and gmc is aware of this issue and only solution they have is 450 + labor which doesn't guarantee the issue is resolved...i have researched numerous articles as well as websites where other gm victims have reported their vehicles to do the same thing....the speedometer is something very important which shouldn't be a common problem, serious if not life taking accidents happen when drivers aren't able to be aware of their speed. i would hope that this complaint will follow with others and there will be some type recall that takes place. *tr

I have a 2005 envoy that i purchased less than a year ago from a local chevrolet dealership. on the day of the failure, i did not drive the vehicle to work. when i returned home, i found that the back trunk hatch had somehow opened on its own, causing it to separate from the glass. the trunk hatch was broken in such a manner that it could not have been brought on by another individual or object. after noticing this defect, i contacted the dealership. the automobile was taken to the dealership the next day where they filed a claim with the warranty company. however, the service technician decided that the struts were not the cause of the defect and worked properly and could not hypothesis on why this failure had occurred. he reported this to the warranty company who thus denied the claim because they do not cover the glass on the automobile. i was displeased with the outcome and contacted both the warranty company and the gmc headquarters myself, hoping that this initiative would resolve the situation. it is my belief that there is some type of defect that caused the hatch to open on its own. the company will only replace the struts and are requiring me to pay for the glass replacement and labor for something that i neither caused nor could have prevented. *tr

Emissions light would come on for a day or two and then go off for weeks. when having vehicle 50,000 mile service they hooked it up to the computer and got both a p0128 bad thermostat code and a p0463 fan clutch failure code. this care is less than 3 years old and should not have these problems. the thermostat was replaces as well as the fan clutch at great expense as the extended warranty did not cover the thermostat or the flush of the coolant system that went along with replacing said thermostat. *tr

The vehicle has a severe hesitation when the engine is under a load. this has been called a surge by one mechanic. had truck 2 months bought it used with 29,000 miles it's a gmc envoy. while going up hills on the highway at 60 mph, the engines starts to miss/surge/hesitate causing the vehicle to lose speed and rpm's. as you slowly press the gas pedal to gain speed the engine misses more. i had this truck to the dealer 6 times for this problem. they changed the fuel module on the engine then rebuilt the transmission. i was told by them it's the characteristics of the vehicle. *tr

Purchased a used (had previously been gmc exec's) 2005 gmc envoy in september 2005. since january 2007 we have experienced multiple issues with the vehicle. we have had problems such as the headlights dimming on and off while we're driving, the airbag sensor saying off even when my wife is sitting in the passenger seat, and the driver side power seat would move up, but wouldn't move forward or backward. however, the biggest problem and safety issue has been the vehicle shutting off while in the middle of driving it. there have been numerous occasions where we have been on back roads, rush-hour freeway traffic, etc. and the vehicle shut off, lost all power including power steering and you can't pump the brakes-you have one shot to hit the brakes. last thursday, march 6, 2008 this happened to us 5 times in one day!! my wife was on her way home from a job interview and the vehicle shut off on her 3 times. then, it shut off on her again when she was driving to pick me up from work. on our way home it shut off for the 5th time that day and it did it in the middle of heavy, rush-hour traffic on the railroad tracks! this is an issue that needs to be fixed. we keep this car in tip-top shape, properly maintained. it is barely 3 years old and having these types of problems is not right. gm needs to issue a recall on this asap. this needs fixed immediately...and apparently this is happening with a lot of, if not all, envoys. one envoy...that could be a fluke, but more than one, even just 2 is a duplicate problem and should be recalled. *tr

2005 gmc envoy rear door locks do not stay latched. consumer states that the latches were replaced in 2006 and now the locks are defective. dealer told the him that the locks did not work and made him pay $100 to tell him that. *kb

I purchased a 2005 gmc envoy in september 2005. in the past year (since january 2007, at least), i have experienced several problems with my vehicle. the first problem is with the headlights. everytime i have driven the vehicle the headlights appear to dim/flicker and then return to normal. this has resulted in oncoming vehicles turning their bright lights on me thinking my brights are on when in reality my headlights are dimming and then returning to normal. the second problem concerns the passenger side airbag. anytime a certain weight limit is met or exceeded the airbag sensor is supposed to switch to on, but there have been several occasions when someone was sitting in the passenger seat and the airbag sensor hasn't recognized it. third problem, driver side power seat failure. there have been several instances when i have tried to move the driver seat forward, but nothing happened. the motor sounded like it was grinding and wanted to move, but the seat would not move forward or backward. the most extreme problem to date has been with the vehicle completely shutting off without warning while in the middle of driving and then not starting or even turning over at all. every single day for, at least, the last month when i go to start the vehicle it fails to start and it takes a minimum of 1 hour to get it started. one instance in particular when the vehicle shut off without warning was while my wife and i were on the freeway. without warning the vehicle shut down and we were forced to pull onto the shoulder. we sat there for almost an hour in temperatures of 13 degrees trying to get the vehicle restarted. there have been countless complaints and reports of other envoy owners experiencing these same problems. some dealers have actually said that these failures/problems are normal!!!! what!?!?! are you freaking kidding me?! since when is it considered "normal" when so many envoys are displaying these same problems? *tr

Speedometer stopped working correctly. *tr

Left and right rear door locks will not remain latched, whether locked or unlocked. these latches were replaced in july 2006 and the replacement locks are now defective as well. van devere dealership in akron, ohio charged $100.15 to determine locks will not work; advised me to call gm customer service. called gm customer service 866-790-5600 x 32380 complaint file 71-585106455; robert johnson stated that the service manager of the repairing dealer in july 2006, premier in rittman, ohio would not replace locks because parts beyond 12 month warranty. i explained that this was a safety issue, and explained the danger of defective locks; robert johnson stated there was nothing else he would do. aside from the poor quality, locks are crucial to vehicle safety, and locks on a 2005 vehicle should not fail in 2006 and 2007. moreover, i am appalled that gm would not insist that these be replaced immediately at company expense, considering the safety risk and embarrassing lack of quality. *tr

Transmission failure, mechanic can not find what the cause is from, gmac sent a technical service bulletin to the mechanic that states this problem has been seen with these vehicles, no guarantee it will not happen again. *tr

Right after the warranty ran out on my 05 gmc envoy the gas gauge started beeping when you would fill up the tank. then it started to not read full when it was filled. now it never reads full and when the tank is half empty the light will come on. it will always beep when i first start it. this unit should not have went out after 36,000 miles. this is a faulty unit and i believe the manufacturer should replace it. if i was to replace it myself it would cost me over $500.00 . terrible product terrible product that should be investigated. *tr

2005 gmc envoy doors and windows failed to open. consumer states that the doors and windows failed to open. he also states that the vehicle would not start when his wife tried to start it. *kb

At various time, especially when depressing the brake pedal, the headlights and interior lights dim. gm knows about the problem - tsbs 05-08-42-001 and 06-06-03-004 but does not have a fix. this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. *tr updated 10/23/07 *tr

My 2005 gmc envoy continues to have the same problem over and over. i'm taking it in again today for the 4th time. it loses power going up hills. it's like the engine is stalling, and it has actually cut off on me. the first 2 times they could find nothing wrong. so it didn't get fixed. the 3rd time the check engine light finally came on. they said it was the oxygen sensor, and carbon build up on the fuel solenoid. once again the check engine light is on. this time i had onstar do a diagnostic test. i was informed that there is a power train system malfunction. which is the part of the engine system that provides power to move the vehicle. obviously this has been the problem all along that the dealership can not seem to fix. of course the gas mileage is terrible due to this situation, and with gas prices the way they are it's killing me. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the engine made a loud knocking noise when driving. while driving uphill, the vehicle dramatically decelerates as if the engine was stalling. the engine and oil lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. she took the vehicle to the dealer for an oil change, but the oil light remained illuminated. she took the vehicle to a local dealer four times and they reprogrammed the p.c. another dealer stated that the engine drags when traveling uphill, which was probably due to the clutch fans. the contact also stated that the air conditioning system does not work. after all four repairs were performed, her vehicle continues to experience the same failures. she contacted the manufacturer and they stated that they would not provide any financial assistance because the extended warranty expired. the speed was unknown. the failure mileage was 3,809 and current mileage was 82,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the low fuel indicator illuminated when the gas tank was full. the mechanic stated that the float needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 44,000 and current mileage was 46,000.

Reported earlier gas odometer broke when fueling vehicle on 2 seperate occassions, first time fixed, then again while fueling gas, it broke. failed to mention my problems with the speedodometer. it was fluctuating all the way up, then all the way down irratically before it dropped down to the middle. *jb

2005 gmc envoy - since purchase, the headlights will dim when driving at night; seems to happen after first starting the vehicle. the battery gauge will drop down to under 11 volts when this occurs. the dealer has tightened the ground connections and replaced the alternator twice; after returning the vehicle to the dealer a third time, i was told that this is "normal". the vehicle is now out of warranty with 50k miles and the problem still exists. *jb

1) in both instances while pumping fuel. 2) gas gauge began to move erratically while driving. 3) first time the fuel level sensor was replaced by dealer, the second instance we were advised to use fuel additive and higher grade of gas, no difference has been detected. *tr

Since i purchased my vehicle in august of 2005, i have experienced dashboard lights and headlights dimming at intermittent times. i reported this to the dealer ,where i purchased my vehicle at various times. each time it was serviced, i am told that they were unable to locate any problems with the vehicle.*ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. while driving the vehicle approximately 30 mph the high beams began to blink when the contact removed the foot from the accelerator pedal. the contact was driving behind a police officer, and when attempting to decelerate, the high beams started blinking. the officer stopped him and stated that it was a safety problem. the contact took the vehicle to dealer for repair, but was unable to perform repairs. after the vehicle left the shop the failure occurred at 50 mph. the mechanic performed a diagnostic, and found no failures. the gmc technical support representative stated that they were aware of the failure, but did not know how to perform the repairs. the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 1,000. *ak

Vehicle has intermittent throttle problem that causes the throttle to surge and the headlights to go dim to bright and dash lights to go dim to bright. this condition happens intermittently, and the dealership states there is no problem. this condition is most dangerous when driving in confined spaces such as parking lots. i have taken this problem to the selling dealership four times since july 2006 and continue to be told there was no problem.*ak

There are 3 consistent problems with my 05 envoy. my lights flicker and battery gauge goes down suddenly this happens about once a month. upon exiting my truck i always get a huge shock!! the knobs on the sides of my front seats keep coming off, i have had one replaced before now they are both off and missing, they must have fell out the door one day. *jb

Tl* - the contact owns a 2005 gms envoy. in mid february 2007 the contact's vehicle was involved in a head on collision while driving at 35 mph. the contact drove into a tree due to icy road conditions. none of the air bags deployed. there were no passengers in the vehicle. the contact was wearing a seat belt. there were no warning indicator lights on the dashboard before or after the crash. the vehicle was towed to a the dealer, and the insurance company advised the contact that the vehicle was totaled. the contact had requested that the manufacturer issue a computer read out indicating why the air bags didn't deploy. the dealer sent the contact prior to the collision a diagnostic email stating the vehicle was operating normally. a police report was taken. the current and failure mileage were both 25000.*ak

Tl*- the contact stated that while driving the 2005 gmc envoy with 32000 failure mileage at 35 mph on many different occasions the vehicle switched into 4 wheel drive on its own and slowed the vehicle down in the process. the contact kept control of the vehicle and pulled it onto the side of the road. the vehicle was towed and repaired on several occasions, but nothing seemed to resolve the problem. the current mileage was 41000.*ak

Tl*- the contact owns a 2003 gmc envoy. the headlights, dashboard, and tail lights flashed randomly at any speed, this failure started in october of 2006. the weather and time of day were not factors in the failure. the dealership said that the failure was normal. there were tsbs for the failure, as well as for several others. the fuel neck had been replaced twice due to a design change. the seal around the licenses place holder came loose and had to be replaced. the brake pedal was squeaking, the contact took vehicle for service on three occasions, and replaced the serpentine belt twice, an airbag sensor, the rear wiper arm, the oxygen sensor twice ,the first time at 7000 miles. there were cruise control failures, when the contact tried to accelerate it hesitated and then surged. the weather stripping on the rear doors has been repaired three times. the abs would skip on a bumpy road and would not engage. at one point the contact could smell fuel in the passenger compartment and vehicle had very poor gas mileage, the dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, but air valve became stuck and would not close. the rear door hinges squeaked. this winter it won't go to full voltage until a minute elapsed after the vehicle has been started. the original failure mileage was 3829, and the current mileage was 23700.*ak the brakes were inoperative, the belts squeaked, there was a problem with the abs, the air bag light illuminated, the cruise control didn't work properly, the rear wiper would only wipe the middle of the back windshield. a new fuel neck was installed. updated 03/15/07. *jb

There have been numerous occasions when the lights on the vehicle flicker and dim. this has been noted to occur most frequently when driving in high humidity conditions. the voltage gage jumps approximately 6 volts. the vehicle has been to the dealership for this issue, but i was told that the problem could not be recreated. *jb

Fuel gauge does not work. this is very bad as my wife ran out of gas not knowing she was out. took place in a bad part of town. *jb

At the beginning of nov there was two occasions that i got into my vehicle and while i was driving to work my headlights and the lights in the dash board would dim and flash every time i let my foot off the accelerator. the gauage to the battery would drop down pass the half point.and i would here clicking in my steering column,this is something that has been going on.i told the gmc dealerabout this,they could not duplicate my concern at that time. he gave me a #02-06-03-008a form and told me it couldnt be fixed. i am very upset by this i am driving a defective suv. i am afraid of going out to start my suv and it not start.that is one of the problems it could have. *nm

First the engine started making noise and the engine light came on, the dealer replaced a belt for 200.00. secondly the gas gauge stopped reading fuel levels, dealer stated that the sensor was dead and would cost 300.00 to replace. next the engine died in the middle of the street. the vehicle will not turn over and the engine light is back on. also they had a sunroof installed for me. a week after purchase the sunroof started to open and close even when the car was shut off, it was repaired but now i am having the same problem again. *nm

I purchased a 2005 gmc envoy sle in march of 2006. since i purchased the vehicle it has stalled several times. once while stopped waiting for traffic to resume and numerous times while driving at a very slow rate of speed. i have taken it to the dealer twice and both times they have said that they can not find what the problem is. *jb

In august 2005 on a trip, exiting off ramp brake pedal went all the way to the floor, was able to "pump" it and get response. after shutting vehicle off, setting & restart brake pedal again goes all the way to floor. upon return to dealership master cylinder was replaced. a few months later brake pedal becomes extremely "spongy" with no stopping power. dealership bled brakes and said problem was air in system. still no improvement, extremely soft pedal and unit will not panic stop. took back to dealership end of june 2006 and they replaced master cylinder a second time. unit is still no better and in my opinion unsafe to drive if it will not panic stop. dealership says gm has told them to order more parts, but do not know what the problem is. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's airbags deployed without an accident. there was no braking prior to the air bag deployment. the vehicle did not hit any potholes or other objects. the air bag warning light was not illuminated prior to the deployment, however it did illuminate after the deployment. a police report was not filed. updated 7/25/2006 - *nm

2005 gmc envoy xl purchase april 29, 2006 just a few weeks later my drive shaft was replaced. a few weeks later while trying to merge into heavy traffic off of the express way engine died. vehicle is now at the dealership for the 5th time for same problem of engine stalling dealer has not been able to find problem. drivers side door panel rattling and finally broke. *nm

I have an '05 gmc envoy slt. i've only owned it six months, since nov '05. i've dealt with flickering headlights and dash lights until just a couple of months ago. i had that issue looked at while installing step rails. i was told this was a typical issue with envoys and they only needed to 'tighten' some bolts. when i initially mentioned the problem i also commented that i would get the 'shock' of my life while exiting the envoy and asked if it could be a grounding issue but they said no. anyway. the problem was solved for a few days but it started all over again and it gets worse as time goes on. before i took it in the first time it was so bad i could feel the engine surge in unison with the flickering of the headlights and dash lights. i feel this could be an extreme safety issue since it involves the headlights and it more noticeable in the dark hours. *jb

When driving at slow speeds, in the process of slowing down or at a complete stop the truck experiences engine surges. it happens unexpectedly and gives no warning. it's extremely dangerous because i've almost rear-ended people numerous times due to the surges. it was brought into the dealership for service and they said they did a software update but could not duplicate the problem. i'll be making an appointment for another service call within the next week. i thought it was just me but then a co-worker said she had the same issues to the extent that she sold her car back and bought a completely different make & model. *jb

My son was killed in a rollover accident on 4/18/06. he was ejected through the driver's side door in which the top part of the door was pulled away from the roof of the car during the rollover. by looking at the tire tracks of the accident, he was just entering the on ramp of the road and the tracks show no skid marks, swerving, etc, just a straight line into the ditch as if he didnt have control of the steering or brakes, possible stalling ?? both tires on the driver's side were flattened. air bags were never deployed. *nm

I was driving home from work entering the freeway on ramp. the ramp is controlled by a signal and i was waiting my turn when the engine failed. i was coasting downhill into another car when i hit the brakes and there were no brakes. i bumped the car in front of me damaging the front grill and hood of my car. submitted the car to the dealer for evaluation of an electrical problem. the dealer has been unable to duplicate. *jb

We purchased our 2005 gmc envoy slt in dec. 2004, which came right off the showroom floor. we had low fuel economy but thought this would get better with more miles. after 30,000 miles our transmission went out without warning. at no time did any internal sensor system detect a problem and we did not notice anything until it was to late. we took it back to dealer and luckily it was covered under warranty for repair. according to mechanic the problem was a small o-ring which was damaged at the factory and that the transmission came from the factory this way. they did rebuild the transmission but now i only have a 12,000 mile warranty on a rebuilt transmission. we feel this is unfair as the transmission was damaged at the factory and was not caused by anything we did. we paid a hefty sum for this suv and now the value has depreciated even more because of this problem. now we feel we have a lemon on our hands and no way to remedy the situation, not to mention the gas we wasted and the time it was in the shop for approx. 2 weeks. we thought we were getting a reliable vehicle!!! *jb

I turned on the defroster on a cold evening in a gmc envoy i had rented from national rent a car. it was, i believe, a 2005 model. it was a cold night and the defroster had to be turned on. while driving, five minutes later, a large "crack" was noted. the windshield cracked starting in the exact shape of the central defroster. the single exit defroster is a hazard as heat is too concentrated. *jb

I own a 2005 envoy - 7 months after owning it - while driving in the dark all the sudden the headlights and dash/radio/mirror lights started flashing on and off. "like a cop car" to the point we pressed on star-afraid the car was going to stall on busy/dark freeway. when i called a dealer they said oh "that's normal" you had to much running and new cars can not handle "heater/radio etc. "its no big deal" > i called another dealer and they said no-this is a problem bring the car in. ends up there was a bulletin for this and the chip had to be updated. very wrong for the one dealer to say no big deal-when they know a update was out. *nm

On the night of saturday (at 9 p.m.), december 10, 2005, i drove my gmc envoy slt to michael's. when driving through the parking lot, my daughter and i heard a loud grinding noise from the underside of the vehicle. we parked the car, turned off the engine, then turned the vehicle on again. several icons that had never been displayed on the dashboard screen appeared, and my vehicle's clock reflected 12:00. the clock was set for the correct time initially, and never tampered . we shopped for 20 minutes and returned to the vehicle, started it up and again several icons appeared. the clock said 12:00 though it was 9:30 p.m. we drove through our neighborhood viewing some christmas lights for about 10 minutes. as i pulled onto our driveway and began breaking to stop the vehicle and and park it outside of our garage, it did not respond to breaking. when i pushed the brake pedal down harder, the vehicle continued at the same speed. i screamed that we were going to hit the garage door, and at that moment felt the vehicle accelerate although i had the brake pedal pushed down all the way. it slammed through the garage door, i quickly shifted into park and shut off the engine. my front and my daughter's front passenger door could not be opened and we smelled gas. my husband called 911 and emergency vehicles responded. they determined it should be safe but asked the furnace be turned down so that it would not cause any combustion and to keep the area ventilated.. the garage door was totally demolished, and drywall damages in several spots. a technician from overhead garage doors removed the remnants of the door. my daughter's car had minor paint and dent damage as it was in the garage already. gm's roadside towing hauled the envoy onto a flatbed to take to the dealership. we explained the accident to gm when we contacted them for roadside assistance. the vehicle is now at our dealership, andy mohr, noblesville, in. *nm

(2005 envoy) about 1 month ago i noticed that my headlights were dimming while driving at night . this happened sporadically. when the lights dim, the heat slows down as well. the interior lights occasionally dim when this happens, too. my husband and i thought it might be the battery and started to look at the battery gage, while one of us kept an eye on the lights. this problem has happened about 7 times over the last month. last week it happened about every 2 minutes while driving down the road. very scary, as i thought the truck was just going to shut down. i took the truck to my gm dealer and the mechanic said that there is nothing wrong with the truck. the battery, alternator and wires were fine. he stated that with new vehicles and everything that is run in them this is normal. although he also stated that he has never seen this problem before. their computer told them that nothing needed to be fixed. we have no aftermarket products in the vehicle and the only things running were the heat and radio. *nm

I recently bought an gmc envoy xuv suddenly one day while i was driving it and it started raining, i turned on the wipers and then adjusted it to the slowest mode. they stopped working and i had to drive home in the rain with poor visibility. i also bought an extended warranty on my vehicle and as of this date there are only approximately 6000 miles on the car. i called to have it looked at and was told it may not be covered by my warranty so far i have not had this problem fixed and therefore have not been using this vehicle. until i get better service at gmc i will continue to not use it. *nm

Dt: the contact stated the vehicle stalled without warning. the dealership stated the vehicle defaulted into third gear and will not accelerate. this was due to a computer problem. the dealership has been able to duplicate the problem, but was unable to find the solution. *ak

Consumer lost control of 2005 gmc envoy while driving. ***no while making a right turn onto a highway the consumer suddenly lost control of the vehicle. the consumer attempted to correct the vehicle when it rolled over twice. the consumer and his wife were seriously injured. the consumer request that a safety investigation be initiated in reference to this problem. this was a rental vehicle. *nm

Dt: the contact stated while driving at 45 mph hit the brakes and the side air bags deployed and knocked him unconscious. he had a friend in the vehicle and he was able to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. there was no collision, and he was unsure whether he ran over anything. the roof lining fell because of the air bag deployment. he sustained head abrasions; he could not hear out of left ear, and could not see properly out of left eye. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they could not touch the vehicle without a gm engineer's approval. he received a history of vehicle at time of purchase, and has since noticed there had been body work done.*ak

When rear entertainment dvd is used, there is no rear visibility. the screen blocks the rear completely and you are only able to use the side mirrors. this i feel is a major design flaw, as my other vehicle by a different manufacturer does not have the same problem. *nm

2005 gmc envoy has developed multiple problems. *mr the driver side front seat side cover was coming off and the passenger side front window was inoperative. both issues were recurrent. *sc

I have a 2005 gmc envoy. while driving at night both the interior and exterior lights began to flicker periodically. i was following my wife home and she said that it was a huge distraction to her when she was driving. i took the vehicle to the dealer and they said that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. i have less than 400 miles on the vehicle. according to my friend, his 2005 trailblazer does the same thing. nm

Dt: consumer owns a '05 gmc envoy and has difficulty towing a trailer within gm rates, gm states that his envoy can tow a weight of 5,800 pound capacity, however he feels the vehicle is unable to maneuver a travel trailer of 3,400 pound capacity. the consumer has been to the dealership twice for this. the dealer stated there was nothing they could do. consumer has pulled the trailer with other vehicles and it pulls fine but when attached to the envoy there is a problem. consumer feels it is not with the suspension of the vehicle but within the engine which is a v6. when pulling trailer for a distance as little as 2 miles the engine heats up, and he experiences a loss of speed and engine the bogs down to 30 mph. envoy is equipped with the 373 axle ratio and can not pull an enclosed 24ft travel trailer on it's 6 cylinder engine. the 2nd trip to dealer, the service manager did duplicate this problem and suggested the consumer needed a v8 engine. also, there is a electrical problem that only occurs when the engine is running. consumer gave examples of automatic door locks unlocking by themselves and the anti theft system enabling itself resulting in a shutdown of the vehicle. took to dealer 10 times for this problem. dealer could not duplicate problems. the dealer said gm would not authorize repair unless they could duplicate problem. has contacted gm customer service at least 100 times for these issues without any luck. no repairs or corrections as a result. consumer is still experiencing these problems as a result. *jb

I own a 2005 envoy sle. i was involved in an accident that was a result of a tire blowout. i was changing lanes on a city street. i moved from the right lane to the left lane. the vehicle did not want to adjust to moving over. i than excellerated the vehicle and it began to fish tail. i tried to correct the vehicle from swirving and i hit the guard rail. when i got out of the vehicle the rear tire on the passenger side was flat. i did not hit the guard rail with the rear of the car only the front. i believe the blowout was the reason the car was out of control. i am saving the tire to have someone inspect it just to see if my claims could be right. the dealership did not find any cuts in the tire to represent i ran over something prior to the accident. please contact me at 517/636-6528 my name is rose heyer i am peter deluca's daugher who was driving the vehicle.

Purchased new 05 envoy xl 12/04. windshield is so defective it is dififcult to focus or see clearly to drive. causes extreme eye strain and headache to the point of being unable to continue to drive. dealership replaced with another windshield they found at another dealership. it is just as defective. envoy is extemely difficult to drive because you can't focus clearly thru windshield. it will make you literally sick to try and drive it it causes inability to focus clearly, extreme eye strain/pain, migraine headaches, dizziness and no one wants to ride in it because it makes you sick. dangerous to drive...can't see well. dealership won't fix. says they have a memo saying not to fix anymore because they are all defective. we have waited 3months for a rep. to be available. say they have none to look at it. they are reassigning reps soon to our area. there must be someone for gmc who can fix this dangerous and 'sickening' situation. $40,000+ vehicle and can't drive it. it is so dangerous to drive as you can't see well to focus it is so distorted. everything is wavy, out of focus and hurts your eyes. to try and drive it on a bright, sunny day is almost impossible as the brightness makes the distortion all the worse. i have had to wear three pairs of sunglasses at one time trying to darken it enough to drive on a sunny day. *ak

While going over any type of bumps at night at various speeds the fog lights flickered on/off. also, the lens covering the headlights were loose. took vehicle to dealership, and was informed by mechanic that nothing could be done to resolve problems. it was the way the vehicle was manufactured.*ak

While driving driver heard a loud banking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. drive took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem.*ak

Severe car crash with my leased 2005 gmc envoy. much side and front damage occured, but air bags did not deploy. gmc will be sending someone from the protection allegation department to perform a diagnostic test on the air bags within the next 14 days. the accident occured on 4/22/05. i do not want the vehicle repaired and given back to me for the following 2 reasons: the vehicle incurred (in my opinion, police report, allstate insurance co., sterling auto body repai shop) etc ... extensive damage. the 2nd reason is the airbags, as stated, did not deploy. if anyone were to be seated in the passenger seat, they would have been seriously hurt. i have readily at my disposal any and all additional info. which i will gladly submit when necessary.

The only problem is with the memory seats and mirrors. on prior year envoys, when you pressed the unlock button on the remote, the seats and mirrors would recall to that drivers position. now you have to push the 1 or 2 button on the door, while in park, to recall the seat and mirror positions. there is no tie with the remote and the memory seats. i don't know why gm would do away with this feature, but it is very inconvenient and in my opinion - a big step backwards.*ak

Complaint received via e-mail. my wife was in her 2005 gmc envoy when it was hit on the driver's tire, and was driven into a concrete power pole at 40 mph head on. the power lines were knocked down. driver's side air bag never deployed, and her head hit the steering, causing a bump on the head, a black eye and a cut lip.*ak

I had three cars in front of me stopped. i did not see any breakl lights and i hit the car in front of me pushing the other cars to hit each other. my front end of my car was severely damaged bad enough to damage the radiator and destroy my ac unit. i'm not sure what else was damaged. it sent the person in front of me and myself to the emergency room. " my air bags did not deploy ". my vehicle was moving on a city street.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly stalled more than three times. the dealer was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 gmc envoy. the contact stated while driving 78 mph the speedometer malfunctioned. the contact was unable to identify the speed of the vehicle which caused the contact to be cited by a police officer for speeding. the contact took vehicle to the dealer who stated the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the instrument cluster was not replaced; however, he noticed numerous complaint regarding the speedometer for his year, make, and model and other gm vehicles. the failure mileage was 83,500.

In june of 2007 i could not close either of the rear doors on my vehicle. they failed approximately two hours apart. i was transporting two grand children at the time. thank heaven they were young enough to require car seats. we were at the mercy of strangers on the highway. with donated rope to secure the doors we made it home. the dealer replaced both door lock assemblies. i paid $125 for labor only. the dealer must have replaced the door lock assemblies with the same faulty part. on 10/12/10 the left rear door failed again! after tying the door and using duct tape to secure it i drove the 30 miles to the nearest dealer. although i had to pay $295.35 to replace the left rear door lock assembly the dealer was able to do it immediately. i am now carrying rope and duct tape in anticipation of failure of the right rear door lock. my vehicle is well taken care of. maintenance is followed religiously. (there is nothing in the manual to indicate door locks should be checked. lubricated but not checked for possible failure.) these failures are in no way my responsibility. this is a faulty design that can very well end in injury. i would have assumed that gm would have been concerned and if not issue a recall take responsibility for the defective locks. have dealer service departments check these locks when vehicles are brought in for normal maintenance. not only do they not take responsibility they actually replace the locks with the same lock assembly that is doomed for failure. *tr

I was driving alone and the dash board light went out i and the 4wd light came on i could not see the speedometer. i pulled over and could not remove the key from car or put the card back into drive .the car shop had to reroute some wire but i don't have any aftermarket add ons. *jb
