I have a vacuum supply hose that plugs into the power booster that is obsolete.

Was informed by a body shop on Oct 18th 2011 that the front of my hood the paint was bubbling and on my right rear fender over tire area, the paint was bubbling/peeling and rusting. Now my pain is peeling off my hood and the rust area got bigger. I have emailed Ford Motor Company about this problem when I found out 3 times and I was told there is nothing I could do as I did not have a warranty but to save any receipts in case there was a recall. This was told to me by the Customer Relations Center: My name is Yvette and I am from Fords Customer Relationship Center. I received your email regarding your 2005 Ford Five Hundred.

I understand that you are having paint issues on your vehicles hood and rear fender. I am sorry for the inconvenience that this may have caused you. I have looked into this matter for you.

Currently, there are no factory warranties or programs in effect on your vehicle that would provide assistance for your current concern. I suggest that you keep your repair receipts in case Ford initiates a recall or Customer Satisfaction Program in the future.

Also, I have verified that there are no known issues as evident by no open recalls available for your vehicle. That is what she wrote me and what I continue to get told.
Just recently I filed a complaint with the BBB and received a letter this darte (March 10 2014) from Virginia S Tucker Consumer Affairs Legal Analyst. She advised that the warrany for my vehicle (NVLW) provides coverage fir repairs as assurance against defects in facetory-supplied materials and workmanship for three years or 36,00 miles whichever occurs first. Because my vehicle is beyond all warranty parameters they will not be meeting the expectation for any compensation of the vehicle’s paint. They she said at the end Thak yo for bringing this matter to our attention. Please consider this our closing report. She acted like I was the first to bring this matter to Ford’s attention which they have already known.
So now I have to figure who I am going to go to next. I was thinking about going to the federal government next. They caused this problem and because it is too expensive to fix, they want to put it on the customer. It seems they could care less about it. I get the same old run around/response form these people.

Spark plug blowout required replacing front head

on the 500 awd with cvt, the tranmission will lock. The car won\’t move when shifting from reverse to drive. The vechicle is immovable for approximately 30 seconds then will move with engine revs over 4000. After several miles like this the car returns to normal. Twice I missed being rear ended by jumping out of the car waving my arms, my 3 year old was in the back seat. Ford told me there was a \"severe\" problem but their diagnostic equipment indicated no problem. The car was given back to me for 18 months this continued. Finally this past August they replaced a mechatronic control unit. Car is fine now. They told me they were waiting for the car to go to failure.

I bought the car new and have had a popping noise coming from front of car when turning. Had car worked on for strut mount, steering etc. so many times and now my warrenty has run out and it is making noise again.

Ford took car for inspection and falsified service ticket stating car now has 5000 miles on it and No Trouble Found and when the car was returned the Brake Rotors were still Rusty. Ford Zone Manager told me to sue them. Now I have a Recall for Doors flying open after water freezes them and FORD states that they will not pick up car and perform Recall because the car is not registered (It still has an affidavit of non-use) and Omera Ford told me that I cannot put tags on it if I wanted because it is flagged an-unsafe vehicle. It is now 2007 and time to make another pass at getting rid of this Lemon.

Paint is cracking on the hood, the trunk, as well as the roof of the vehicle in various places. This may be due to the iron contamination of the aluminum panels under the paint. Dealer claims this problem is caused by the elements/bird droppings. Took it to MAACO, an independent auto paint dealer, and they said that it is not due to the the elements or the bird droppings. They agreed that this problem is due to the iron contamination of the aluminum panels, as cited in an article by Christopher Jensen.

2005 ford five hundred with a paint defect. consumer states that there was a recall on the paint but was stopped. he also discovered a service bulletin for 2000 thru 2005 models due to iron contamination. *kb the consumer stated he discovered a small section of the hood with cracked paint.

While driving on the freeway going the speed limit i changed lanes and the rear of the car fished tailed. it happened so fast it scared me to death. i was very lucky to get the car under control. it was not raining and some what heavy traffic at the time. the car does not maneuver well. i have to be careful while changing lanes and do it slowly or the car jerks quickly and not smooth as my other cars i've owned.

I was at red light person crossing road i was i. drive foot on brake, rpms shot up engine reeves cat lunged forward i pressed harder in brake almost hit person. at the time no warning lights. then at pharmacy drive thru w car i. from and i. back of me car did same thing. i had to press brake hard to prevent moving hitting car in from of me. i was in drive but foot on brake! no warning lights at time. had throttle body replaced still had similar problems progressing little did i know when throttle body is replaced has to be reprogrammed by ford! spent so much money and time trying to figure out problem. this is a flaw w ford 500 2005 throttle body many complaints and test does never issues recall, unsafe. i could have killed someone.

When coming to a complete stop with my foot on the brake, the car continues to jerk and drive. it also does it while reversing which in both cases has almost caused me to run into the car in front or behind me. it takes a while to pick up speed after stopping. it jerks while picking up speed. the passenger door inside handle does not close on its own. it rains in the car on the driver's side. the front driver's side panel keeps popping out of place.. the thing under the car that keeps you from hitting the curb, is falling apart.

While driving airbag light came on several times and then made 1 bong. ford dealer said i have a bad control module and part is not covered. if this is a safety item should it be covered? should this module be recalled?

Harsh and delayed shifting. lunges forward when in drive at stop even with foot on brake, same in reverse. car shifts fine for first 20-30 minutes then starts to shift hard up and down... seems to get worse as car gets warmer

At low speeds, when turning and when accelerating from a stop, the car will shake, lunge and then shut off. sometimes it just shakes and hesitates and then keeps going. sometimes it takes a while to get it running again. it always happens when the car is in motion. a couple of times this happened, the transmission error codes were displayed. i have had the transmission checked out and it was fine.

Track bar bracket on the exit from my driveway to the road the car started to drive erratically. after stopping the car and investigation i found that rear right track bar bracket is completely detached from the car body. it looks like a complete structure failure. fortunately, the failure happened at very low speed and no one was harmed. photos of the car are enclosed.

Driving when the call rpm drop and abs goes out car won't excelerate "failsafe engine mode " is what it says n my check engine light and abs light and rench light on, had to pull over and shut off and turn back on. cleaned the throttle body and reprogramed the computer and it continues to happen at random and will randomly excelerate on its own with rpms rising and yet i'm no where near gas pedal, i'm on brakes. as my instrument panel will malfunction and all gauges will go to zero and wiggle and all warning lights will be displayed them goes completely black, this has also been very unsafe of an issue because at night when this happens you can't see your spend or gas or anything. and the fail-safe mode also has almost cause me to have crashed as well as been crashed into over four dozen times. seeing how i pay for it to be fixed and nothing can't seem to fix it ... it's very scary and i worry for my life each time i drive

Front driver side lower control arm ball joint sheared off at 25 mph while making a left hand turn and then snapped the cv joint axle shaft causing the driver side wheel to jam inside the wheel well and damage lower part of body and fender. the vehicl was totally disable at this point sitting in the middle of an intersection. similar incident happened two years ago with the passenger side front wheel and the lower control arm ball joint sheared and snapped the cv joint axle shaft at 45 mph and caused vehicle to turn 180 degrees blocking two lanes of hwy. that time front wheel damaged wheel well and sensor wires on that side fo the engine bay

I took my battery out my 2005 ford five hundred and the fail safe engine mode wrench light came on and it wont go off this need to be recall they say the compter shut down and i have to get it reseted i was driving the vehicle and it almost hit someone when it jurk to the front and i almost hit a vehicle backing up

My 2005 ford 500 some times the dash quits working radio heat that stuff is fine but the dash it's self rpm speedometor gas gauge all the dash quits and when that happens the airbag light comes on because when the dash quits so does the airbags that is a saftey and should be a recall

I bought this vehicle in 2016 i've had problems with driver and passenger front doors. when it gets to cold both locks get frozen and doors will not close.

In extremely cold temperatures, the door will not latch or will pop open while driving. it has happened multiple times, but only in below freezing temperatures. ford recall notice 06s45 describes it perfectly, but somehow my ford five hundred is not included in the recall. *tr

Transmission has very hard and delayed upshift and downshift making it difficult to control speed when accelerating and decelerating. rpm gets stuck around 3000 at lower speeds and upon engaging into gear has made my tires squawk with a sudden lunge in speed and same problem when trying to stop, the car lunges forward. it acts as though it is in neutral but then when it engages into gear sudden changes in speed occur causing rapid acceleration or deceleration. the problem gets worse after the car is up to normal operating temperature. it doesn't occur as often at colder operating temperature. this problem makes it difficult to get back up to safe highway speeds after having to stop for traffic or red lights as well as hard to get up to speed to safely merge into traffic from an on ramp. as far as "when" this happened it is every day as i drive daily.

I purchased the car used with the understanding that it had some issues with a misfire. upon initial inspection i fount the car was throwing the code p0351 i cleared all faults and problem went away weks went by and problem started again but more sever during normal operation the car started shaking and shifting erratic i then came upon some k formation as to a recall ford put in place stating improper calibration of pcm and tcm cause unnecessary interaction i the electrical system and malfunction of the vehicle

Received a code stating that i have a faulty pcm. when i drive all the lights come on and the speed gauge shuts down.

The fuel system is malfunctioning. the fuel tank has a crack caused by a welding point on the fuel tank was broken loose. over time i saw my fuel gauge drop dramatically. this causes me to get gas more often.

When i bought the car had engine light on so replace the spark plugs and put new battery problem still there. had a mechanic check out and he said codes reading fuel problem so change out the fuel pump and put injector cleaner. problem still there he said maybe the computer so now i don't know what to do. the problem is check engine light on and when you step on the throttle does not go pass 3000 rpm.

I was driving my car it started to shake very hard well i heard a snap sound and my car started to drag i got out my frame above my right lower control had snapped ive read that many other people are having the same problem i contactes ford about the issue and they said there is nothing they can do well i'm out of a vehicle but vefore all of this i kept going through fuel relay issues and eventually started losing my instrument cluster so now i'm fighting with them to do the repairs

The car jerks when accelerated.

(etb) electronic throttle body on my car causes an acceleration that makes the car jerk forward. i've almost hit a wall, and god forbid this happens on the highway i could cause an accident. its unsafe and should be recalled. poor design i guess but it's not worth my life. this happened while idling in drive thru when i tried to go forward it idled really high then dropped down. would bot accelerate afterwards.

Electronic throttle body a major complaint and causes the car to have no throttle response. elderly mother got stuck on a hill and could not get car rest of the way up the hill to safety. page after page of this complaint on internet. ford aware of these issues and still refuses to launch a recall. part cost $500+ for the part and dealer wants another $300+ for install. absolutely disgusting to have elderly or women with infant children stuck on roadways with this issue. will never but ford again based on my experience with this issue and them turning their back on this known problem.

Suspension: continuous rattle issues in the rear suspension. bushings? sway bars?? who knows. no one can seem to pinpoint the problem. happens only during driving. consistent noise from the rear. fuel: problems with fuel sensor. failed reading. all gauges light up. run obd and all fluid levels / pressure fine. no reason for the failure. dealership told me the throttle body was an issue and the sensor inside same. however, after numerous web based searches i found that throttle body issues are definitely an issue. found that removing the air cleaner box for filter replacement can cause sensor issues. why? since my last oil change i have had at least three failures here. this is dangerous, expensive and should be taken care of.

"takata recall" driver side front door won't latch close until car is warm up i sprayed it with wd40 this is the second time it did it to me. car was parked

Takata recall my car has a fuel leak problem and fuel tank is damage to weld defect cide: p04442. also previous own installed a aftermarket remote car starter. now my car has trouble starting ever after i replaced the starter. problem might be the (ecu) engine control unit now working properly.

As we were driving on the freeway our sunroof exploded cracking all the glass. luckley the protector was closed. it showed a bump like shape with the center cracked open.

When its cold outside the drivers door latch stops working and it is impossible to keep the door shut.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. while reversing out of the driveway, the contact noticed a puddle of fuel on the garage floor, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel line was detached and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 101,000. *tt consumer stated gas was leaking. even though it was repaired it happened again. updated 11/20/18*jb

The shift cable is burnt at the end. the gear shift started going from netural as drive and reverse was between park n reverse. the shop was going to ajust the linkage but upon looking found the cable was burnt.. it was also making a clicking sound when in park. which was actually sparking the cable somehow. park will roll so u have to use parking break.

I stopped on a city street at stop sign. as i tried to accelerate, but the car would barely move. the throttle control/transmission warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. i turned the car off and let it sit for about 2 to 3 minutes. i started the car up and was able to make it home. i am thankful that this happen on city street and not on the highway. i plan on contacting my ford dealer tomorrow.

Gauges drop check engine light comes on then wrench light then one shaped like a car n starts loosen power

I have researched online and a lot of people with my same car are having the same problem. while driving my whole dash board goes out . i can no longer see how fast i'm going. everything goes to 0 the gas goes to e and my reverse lights stay on until the dash board comes back up. if and when it comes back on my check engine light will be on. this has been happening every since i purchased the car 3years ago on and off.

During any wet weather, water intrudes into my doors and becomes trapped. when opening the doors, the water gushes out and you can hear water sloshing around inside. there has also been leakage from the front and rear passenger doors of water into the interior of my vehicle from the bottom of the doors being filled with water. during the cold weather, this water then freezes my locking mechanisms when opening and closing the doors. there is a recall for this exact issue with my model, but according to ford my vin is not included even though the issue also affects my car. there have been times when my door with "lock" but it is not completely closed and has opened while moving. fords only resolution for me has been to fix the issue at my cost, and they will reimburse me "if" my car would be included in the recall. the car has been doing this since i first bought it used and there has been no resolution otherwise by ford.

Bought the vehicle used in may 2010. realized early-on that the transmission was not smooth, but willing to settle for less than perfection since it was a 2005 vehicle. in late 2012 or early 2013, i received 'recall' notice that pcm (i.e. - powertrain control module) could need to be reprogrammed due to stalling, herky-jerky transmission, etc. took car to dealership, they ran diagnostics, charged me $100, and told me that my car wasn't effected because no error codes were noted and check engine light wasn't on. i was not happy, and refused to take my car to the dealership for repair. problem persisted, until check engine light came on in october 2017 at roughly 125,000 miles. took to local mechanic, was charged $150 for sensor replacement. light came back on a day later. took back, replaced sensor for free (nice!), but light back on a day later. took to a different mechanic, was charged $250, replaced multiple sensors, light back on the next day. took back to 2nd mechanic, when they shared with me that it was likely the pcm and the dealership would need to fix. called dealership 3 days in a row, on hold for nearly an hour the 3rd time, was never connected to a service writer or tech, left 3 voice mails for service manager and was never called back. researched issue and found nhtsa action number pe11018, where ford initiated a customer satisfaction program 12n03 to extend coverage terms of repair of engine idle rpm surge caused by pcm needing reprogramming with software containing updated idle speed control. per nhtsa, symptoms associated with the condition may include check engine light, diagnostic codes (dtcs) p0505, p0506, or p061b. ford issued bulletin tsb 11-10-21 that included updated powertrain control calibration.

When i test drove this vehicle the rpm fluctuated and jerking as if it was a manual opposed to automatic as increasing speeds. there was a recall letter mailed to me a few years later and ford dealership claimed the issue was resolved. within a few days it began again. i have owned this vehicle 10 years with the same safety issue and have had to pull over numerous times when the rpms dont reset while on the highway to avoid accidents. i am now filing a formal complaint because i was rear ended due to this issue by a person with no insurance. how can i get this to go away before someone is hurt

Gearing into reverse is heavy shifting transmission o2 sensor bank 1 need replacing

Ac compress went out at 99804, now with 1420000 the ac compress is bad again.

I have been having trouble out of my car and did not know what it was. i could be driving and the accelerator wouldn't have an power. i noticed that the message in my dash read: failed safe mode. i was in traffic when this happened and i had my children in the car and i afraid,we would be rear ended because though,the car was still on,i had no power to continue. i turned the car off and back on and it continued to go into fail safe mode,then i noticed there was a wrench tool,also in the message board. after being in the middle of the road for 20 minutes,the car finally crunk up,so i could move it out the road. as,i crunk the car,i didn't have my feet on the accelerator but i immediately had to put my feet in the break because they car was mounting as if i was pushing the gas. when i finally got ready to pull off barely touching the gas,it jerked off really fast,causing me to almost loose control of the vehicle. i was terrified! i got the car home and called my mechanic. he told me to bring to him the next morning. i get up the next morning to take it to the mechanic and it repeatedly went into fail safe mode,where i could not go anywhere. i finally got it to go after an hour and it did the same,as i was attempting to get it to the mechanic shop.the mechanic tested it and said,the throttle body needed to be replaced. i was also,told,that there was a recall on these same cars for the same problem as im experiencing. i did some research myself and there was a recall on these ford 500 for throttle body. im just not sure,what year they were recalled. the recall number is 12n03. i hope i have explained in full detail,as,im just thankful,that i,my family or others were injured,before i figured out how dangerous this car is!!

I will never buy another ford vehicle ever again!!!!!! i own a 2005 ford five hundred there was a recall in 2012 on the throttle body, a ford dealer supposably cleaned the throttle body, well now its not driveable. we have since talked to several ford dealers including ford motor company , they all said it was our responsibility to fix the problem. i do not think it should be my responsibility to pay for this since the part was recalled !!! the car could stall at anytime while driving putting myself and my family at risk, i don't think much of this automobile company for not standing behind there product, i will never recommend a ford vehicle to friends,family or even my worst enemy never never again!!!!

I was driving down the road about 45/55 mph going around a slight turn when all of a sudden the rear lower control arm and the mount its bolted to snaps lose and i start doing 360s thank god no one was in the other lane they'd be dead probably. ford needs to fix this pos car cuz that's definitely a manufacturer problem

2005 ford five hundred. consumer writes in regards to door latch may not operate properly in an wet environment recall notice. consumer states vehicle door latches collects water in locking mechanism/door frame due to manufactured design issues. *smd the consumer stated the driver side door/latch would not lock. the consumer stated he was able to drain 8-10 ounces of water out of the door cavities, by lifting the rubber gasket on the door frame at the bottom. *jb

The air conditioning system will only blow warm air if the rpm is below about 2000. the higher the rpm the colder the air. it is not the refrigerant being low as i have checked it. i've heard from many online sources that it is a valve inside the compressor and that it seems to be a common problem with the five hundred. given that it seems to be a common problem, ford should issue a recall to fix the issue.

I dont feel safe driving my car i put 2000 dollars of work and still do not feel save.

This car have a large amount of complaint of the lurching due to a sudden malfunctioning throttle body which cause irregularity in the speed and may cause crashes and might end to body injuries or fatality.

Instrument cluster not working. oil and brake light illuminate constantly. reverse lights and brake lights constantly on on the exterior of the vehichle. cruise does not work. blinkers do not work. starts doing this as soon as the car is started. started while going down the expressway now constant.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and jerked. all the lights on the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle had to be turned off and restarted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the computer needed to be replaced. the computer was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

The transmission disengages at various speeds even on the interstate at 55+ mph causing it to lose power. you must be able to get it stopped on the side of the road and shut the car off and then restart it to correct the problem for a short period of time.

I own a 2005 ford five hundred cvt. 2 months ago the transmission began acting up. driving along and the "wrench" lite comes on then the "skid" lite comes on. the car goes into a loss of power, like low gear. it moved but revs up and won't shifts up. i know its a constant velocity trans so it is at it's lower ratio. after hours of diagnostic it comes down to the trans control module, and still not sure. the obd codes say loss of communication, a u code. every inch of harness has been checked the whole interior has been removed, dash disassembled. i'm into it over $2,000. i love the car, it rides great. its has been well maintained. ford i need help. need to recall this issue or how about a p01 or z01 policy adjustment.

Takata recall door latches and links. as like all the other complaints when it gets cold my door will open but it will not close. when it first occurred my door flew open while i was driving. i looked up the recall but my vin number was not included this does not make any sense to me.on a city street at 6:00 in the morning.

The vehicle was in a front end collision with the front driver side primarily damaged. the vehicle was traveling down a city street at roughly 35 to 40 mph uphill. the vehicle rear ended a stationary vehicle that was attempting to turn. the airbag sensor was located on the vehicle and was hit, however, the airbags did not deploy. causing damage to the driver in the accident. they clearly should have deployed by the appearance of the sensor.

After it rained, the temperature dropped below freezing. my door was difficult to open, but would not close or latch. it was frozen open. there is already a recall on this, but ford dealers in the area says it does not apply to cars in the south. a recall is a recall. first of all, both tn and ok get snow and ice, and a recall is a recall. if i decide to move back to maine with this car, then i'll be able to get it fixed for free? what if decide to go skiing in colorado, but cannot leave because my door latches freeze? *tr

Leaving a grocer at 13:15 on 9/7/2015 started to back out of parking spot when auto suddenly accelerated backward, across the aisle and slammed into parked vehicle with impact sending that auto into a 3rd. damages to both vehicles. when i went to pull into my original slot to deal with situation, as soon as i removed foot from brake, auto lunged forward at high rate of speed, jumped a 6" landscape curb and plowed into the front end of a cadillac srx causing major damage to that vehicle, still unk total damage to mine. it was a very hot day and the ac was running. no other vehicles were occupied other than mine, and i was sole occupant. my airbag did not deploy and passenger's was not turned on. i did receive a significant bruise on my sternum from the shoulder component of my seat belt. my foot was not on the accelerator for either "lunge". crashes were witnessed and peoria az police did respond with 2 units. officers did take information, but when i inquired about incident # for my records officer responded that there would be no report and no citations as it occurred on private property. my insurance carrier was contacted from site, but being a holiday, i was not able to speak with adjuster at that time. knowing that it was not my actions that caused this incident, i checked the next day and discovered that this identical situation had been under investigation with nhtsa at the time i purchased the car on or about 11/16/12 at which a service program to retify was in effect. with my incident though, major damage occurred. neither at the time of purchase, nor throughout the investigation & tenure of my ownership (current) was i notified of the known safety problem nor it's program to mitigate. attached aerial photo shows back to back dimension to first impact and back to front dimension of 2nd. i was parked in position of white vehicle.

While driving dash lights, speedometer, tachometer, gas level, and temperature go out for several minutes at a time. reverse lights come on and airbag light comes on. this is dangerous; unable to tell speed! per internet research this is happening in several ford models and stems from a bad solder joint.

This problem is going for a while, even in a stop light, foot on brake pedal the engine accelerate himself and while shifting from park to reverse or drive the sound on the transmission is hard. it go from 700 rpms to 1300 rpms on seconds, and now is worse. took the vehicle to two ford repair dealers, after putting on the computer,both wanted to charge me $6,000.00 on a transmission, even knowing the recalls on this units.this car looks like new i can send you photos, and i love my car.

I was in heavy traffic and the car just stalled out on me while sitting at a light. had to put my hazards on and try to restart car, restarted and then as soon as i put it into drive it stalled again. this happened 3-4 times until i could move to the next light and stop and go through the whole process all over again. finally got on the highway and got home. thought it was a fluke. happened a second time while picking up children from daycare. stalled out while at low rpm and would not restart. had to have it towed. had fuel filter replaced. happened a third time at the store. had to have it towed. towed it to the dealer and the dealer spent over 6 hours to come to the conclusion that throttle body needed to be cleaned and pcm reprogrammed/updated. without much confidence, they returned the car to me and said they could not replicate the problem. drove it for a day and then had the same problem in traffic when at low rpm, with children in car at intersection car stalled out! finally got it started by holding brake and pushing on accelerator while putting it into drive so that it would not stall out. drove it home and have not taken it out since. expect the throttle body needs to be replaced but don't want to spend any more money on "diagnostics" when ford knows this is a problem part and they need to stand behind it!!!!! they have put my family at risk more than once and they need to fix this problem before someone gets hurt.

Spark plugs have backed out of the aluminum head in this vehicle twice now. this second time, it was a plug in the back head hard to reach and it pulled some of the threads out with it. these aluminum heads should be recalled and replaced with steel heads. *tr

As i was driving down 9e at approximately 3:20pm, i hit a pothole and popped my tire. i pulled over to the side of the road and after contacting my roadside assistance, i realized that there was 3 other vehicles that had been hit by the pothole as well. the police was notified and provided each driver with an accident report. *tr

One day driving my ford five hundred as i am gettin on the freeway the car didnt accelerate effectively activating rpm surges but the car wouldn't speed more than 30mph doing so taking long nearly causing a accident in addition to slowing flow of traffic after finally getting home and parked the next day the car didn't start it would crank but wouldn't start i had a mechanic come look at the car everything was in order the pcm would also click when trying to start after doing research i discovered nhtsa had a recall for ford five hundreds 12n03 and in the summary it included throttle and pcm reprogramming and cleaning or replacing the throttle body. therefore i brought the car to a ford dealership and they confirmed theses being the cars issues however ford dealership said that my pcm needed to be replaced not reprogrammed which is not covered under 12n03 protection program. *tr

I purchased new in 2005 a ford five hundred limited from a dealership. i have driven it and have been more than satisfied with it. i have had to do some work to it that according to the dealerships are common problems such as sway bar ends and a cv joint.especially living in the northeast. the reason i'm filing this safety complaint is due to the throttle body on this model vehicle. approx a month or two ago as while driving, my car engine would rev up slightly and momentarily. shortly after that started the vehicle (6 speed automatic) would not shift properly. i would only shift up if i would let off the gas peddle, shortly after that, the check engine light came on and then shortly after that while driving at any given speed it would go into "fail safe" check engine mode. i brought it to a mechanic and they found codes that had to do with the vehicle fuel system running "rich" but could not tell me what it was exactly. i then started reading about my vehicle and similar problems and found that many owners have complained about the same problem and found that it was a throttle body problem that ford new about on several models (including mercury) ford did not do a recall on this problem but rather sent a letter to owners ( i never received) saying that they would clean the throttle body and reset the control computer. the letter came out in 2012. the letter said that the problem would be covered free on vehicles that had less than 150,000 and under ten years. i do not qualify for the mileage. i have had the dealership clean the plates of the throttle body as the letter said and paid for it but the problem persist and in fact is worse. i called ford customer service that said that there was nothing they do other than go to another ford dealership to see if they could help. a car stalling while in in traffic is very dangerous and ford should take responsibility. *tr

I was driving down the road 35mph at the time and all of a sudden my car stops in the middle of the road and the wrench light came on. i had to cut the car off then sit for a few minutes then crank back up. the next time i drove it i was driving 55 mph and then all of a sudden it stopped while i was driving the wrench light came on again i was stuck in the road then after a few minutes i was able to crank back up. i drove the car for a few weeks so i decided to drive home one day on i-95 as i was driving it stopped again with crazy traffic. after this episode when i finally made it home i decided to park my car for several weeks until i called ford to see if there was a warranty and they told me to bring my car to be repaired only to be told it was not under warranty and it would cost me $2000 to get my car repaired because there was a also a leak which is supposed to be under recall. i've read a lot of things going on with this car in particular the 2005 ford five hundred. i called the ford 800 number that the mechanic gave me to see if they would repair the throttle for my car they told me that its over the mileage warranty and there is nothing they can do and they didn't even apologize for my inconveniences when i was stopped on the road, i am currently using a borrowed car because i don't want to put my life in jeopardy driving this car until i am able to get it repaired. *tr

Was driving in heavy traffic through metro city in rush hour on interstate.on 4 lane highway had to cross 2 lanes of traffic to exit;car lost power and message center said engine fail safe mode.tried to accelerate to exit;car had lost power with no acceleration.when i finally got to exit was down to 20 miles per hour.

Traveling down the interstate at 75 mph we received a message on the message center about a failure of some sort (i don't remember what it said exactly now). we lost all acceleration of the car. we pulled over and let it sit while i looked up the error on my phone. i tried the car a bit later and it was fine. then we kept getting the error. i took it to our ford dealer and he cleaned the throttle body...then replace it a week later when that didn't fix it. a about 2 weeks later we were getting another error about the transmission failing. it started making a terrible noise. i still owe 3200 on this car,,.and a new transmission is over 7k. seriously?? i have read so many posts about the cvt transmission on the five hundred and other cars failing. ford should be ashamed of themselves for passing off something like this. now i have a 3200.00 paper weight in my driveway....and i cannot afford to buy another car. thanks ford!! *tr

Throttle assembly problem. very similar concerns as earlier recall which supposedly applied fix to the car a couple years ago. except .along with unexpected acceleration while stopped a new problem arises. motor acts as if it is not getting fuel and slows to a crawl sputtering to a stop.. wrench malfunction light comes on. after cars sits for a period of time wrench display goes off and car operates normally. owners manual indicates that this may be a throttle assembly problem. prior recall notice that has expired. on multiple web boards problem is mention with great frequency for the ford 500. this happened to my wife on a side street at 15-20 mph. if it occurred on next bust street it could have presented a dangerous scenario. ford dealer acknowledged this as a known problem, but ford mfg only provided 1 time fix in recall & since the throttle cleaning fixed the problem at the time of recall no further attention was needed. i mentioned they did extend for recurring problem but that extension 2013. i don't feel a mfg should be able to time limit a problem resolution that they never permanently fix. by what i read on the web this is an issue that needs areal resolution.....cost me 900+ dollars to fix and ford nothing! *tr

2005 ford five hundred this product with a cvt transmission should be investigated and recalled immediately. there are thousands failing and it is very dangerous! the transmission disengages causing the automobile to lose power without warning. i've seen posts of thousands of this same failure beginning at 3500 miles! i contacted ford because mine is doing this and they basically sent a form letter saying oh well, sorry about your luck. many of ford's products have this same issue with the cvt transmission including the ford flex which is involved in a class action lawsuit. the five hundred should be involved in this lawsuit as well. *js

I just purchased a 05 ford five hundred and was on my way from california to georgia. as i was driving i noticed that when it would shift it would rev up even while slowing down. i also noticed that if the ac was on it got worse. i started doing research on this problem and found that i was not the only one having this problem. i have 4 children, i'm disabled and on a very fixed income and buying a vehicle that is safe is a must. unfortunately, due to this problem, it is not safe i asked them what it was going to take for them to issue a recall, injury or even a death, and his response was that it was not up to them but up to the nhts. i have done a lot of research on this problem and there are many more people with these vehicles that have the same problem. i don't think the consumers should be liable to fix a defective part. even a mechanic at a ford dealership said that he doesn't know why they just don't replace it instead. please help fix this problem before someone has to pay not with money but with there life! if i had the money i would replace it and have the ecm updated but that is not an option for me due to my finances. please put out a recall on the throttle body and make the updates on the system free. haven't we paid enough for our vehicles? these are things that are not due to negligence but defectiveness of a part. the company that made the throttle body is no longer in business so that should tell you something. and the updates shouldn't cost if it makes the vehicle run like it should. i believe if all owners of these vehicles come together we can actually fix this deadly problem. why should someone have to pay with their life just for somebody to become aware of this deadly, defective part. so please help! they say the recalls come from you, so issue a recall and include the ecm update that goes with it. thank you, concerned owner with children *tr

Part of an ongoing series of issues with this vehicle (see earlier reports), initial symptom was the dash lights & needles shutting off intermittently (but now for extended periods). vehicle then began showing random warning lights including "check engine", which was diagnosed first time as low fuel level sensors a & b. since that time i'd disconnected the battery on a suggestion of a mechanic friend and all the issues disappeared for a few weeks. yesterday the check engine light came back, and the car was running poorly (creeping when first off brakes, not up shifting), when the dash was operable it showed alternating check engine/check transmission warnings, and vehicle was surging/lagging noticeably at highway speeds. i again did the battery disconnect last night, and the car is operating normal today, but i'm sure it will recur shortly. i am hesitant to take it to a dealer as this sounds like a significant electronics issue, and i have already read up on the ford tsb 06-17-9 that is documented online, not all of which aligns with my issues. had the battery reset had no impact on the problems i would say it's a mechanical matter, but it seems clear its a computer or electrical issue. *tr

On the interstate headed towards denver, after about an hour, when to accelerate from about 70mph to ascend up the hills, the engine rpms accelerate, however, it feels that the transmission is disengaged (slipping) with no power to the drivetrain resulting in a drastic loss of speed. this happened numerous times in efforts to regain control and maintain speed. this was extremely hazardous as traffic was somewhat congested, and other drivers are expecting me to accelerate, however, vehicle was in a decelerating mode. this was only with light pressure to the accelerator. it sounded as if the gears had stripped in the transmission. we turned around and headed home, auto would not allow speeds over 60mph. later the same happened at speeds of 35-40 on local roads. these transmissions are extremely dangerous. ford knows of this problem and refuses to do anything about them. *js

I purchased the vehicle used on 2/21/14 w/31,000+/- miles, initial issue was with instrument cluster intermittently blipping on & off (sometimes for extended periods). that issue was followed by a check engine light, which when analyzed showed low fuel sensors a&b (occurred in late april 2014). up to this point the vehicle was drivable with no impact on actual drivability. last friday 5/9/14, i was at a light and when it turned green i proceeded to drive off, but vehicle was barley moving or responding to throttle input, this continued for a short distance & eventually built up to normal speed. it recurred again at the next light, with same symptoms. i contacted a mechanic i know and the next day i disconnected the battery cable in an attempt to clear the system, and as of a week later only the dash lights issue has recurred. however i feel the loss of power is a significant concern if it were to occur on a busy road or at highway speeds. *tr

Instrument cluster intermittently went dark and/or gauges went to zero/off positions, we pulled over to see if exterior lights worked and all did, as well as blinkers and flashers, but we noted that reverse lights were now on. it has recurred a few times, its most noticeable after dark as dash lights go black. only light on dash was the airbag light. i went online & found info on a technical service bulletin "tsb 06-17-9 09/04/06 - intermittent instrument cluster", it does not appear to be a recall item so assuming any repairs are entirely owner cost ? *tr

I have taken my 2005 ford 500 to my local ford dealer so many times i can not count for the same recurring issues. this vehicle always lunges when i put in gear in reverse or forward. the car lunged backward striking a parked car the first week i got it. i paid for all damage cause i didn't want to claim new car on my insurance. while driving on highway engine starts to decelerate while trying to pass car or change lanes..big problem in traffic..have to floor it till it kicks into gear. dangerous. then, everytime it rains, all 4 doors fill with water..i have to lift up rubber at the bottom..clear the holes..wait for 5 minutes each door. every winter the driver side door latch freezes up and i can't close the door..i thought they dealer fixed the door latch due to a safety recall..that is not the case..several times, i have had to drive to work 15 minutes holding the door shut while driving down the highway.dangerous. i have had it lubed with several products, doesn't work..the service manager at my local ford dealer showed me how to hold the door handle open while using a screwdriver to free the latch..handy little trick. i keep silicone lube spray, screwdriver, pliers, and a jumper box in the car at all times.i have called ford motor co. many times..always got run around and no straight answers. finally last week after calling 5 times, i was transferred to a supervisor that explained to me that the other 10 times i called.no complaint was filed and informed me on the complaint process..i just purchased a new taurus and am hoping to let my son use the 500 to drive to college daily..i am concerned about his safety in this car..so unless these issues are addressed and corrected, i don't know what to do..i have put a lot money into this car.what happen to the lemon law. this car is a lemon. *tr

Replaced low beam headlamp on driver side, noted electrical burn marks on one terminal. replacement bulb did not work, had to wiggle to get it to work. quit working daily without wiggling whole lighting socket , took apart noticed that the socket housing was brittle and cracked with burn mark on metal female lead. two to three weeks later passenger low beam headlight would not work, wiggled passenger side light, came back on. sometimes both light would go out at same time. problem kept occurring through august. found this has occurred on other ford five hundreds due to sockets overheating. checked passenger socket and compared to driver side and both sockets and light bulbs look identical in damage. burned/melted plastic on bulb base and cracked burned sockets. replaced both side bulbs and sockets last weekend, both lights worked for three days before apparently fused the socket with the bulb on the driver side. guessing the passenger side will do the same within next month like it did before.

Galvanic corrosion, where hood latch bar attaches to hood, is eating away the hood metal. connection will eventually fail allowing hood to blow open while driving. *tr

I bought this car a year ago through rondupratt used cars in january 2012 car seemed to drag a little but didn't pay much attention to is as summer came around tried to use the ac it only blew cold on the freeway i just thinking it needed to be serviced buy the time i got the ac charged it was winter again. buy march of next year the car started doing this weird shaking at every stop light and every stop sign the car would start to shake in april a letter comes in the mail explaining the car was being recalled due to the cars rpm idle surging took the car to fairfield ford an when i got the car back it was worse then it. had ever been so i decided to go pay rondupratt to diagnostic the car the said where i took the car to didn't perform the recall and the car needed an ac compressor and an egr valve i have gotten the egr valve replaced an the same day the car wouldn't go in to gear so confused on why they are allowed to sell cars that they know are experiencing theses problems and rant willing to do anything to fix the problem. *tr

A throttle body warranty repair was done on this part on 1-26-13. on 6-6-13 vehicle lost the ability to go forward as i drove to work. put car in reverse and got it off the road. wrench light came on and attempted to drive and car still did not respond. after a few minutes of staying in park i put the car in drive and it did move without a problem. got an appointment at ford dealership to get the problem fixed. was told after car was put on diagnostic test that the throttle body was sticking, and needed replaced.. service advisor attempted to get body repaired under last recall but was unsuccessful . i then applied for the ford service credit card and put the repair on it.. i think repair of part should of been covered under recall.. if this isn't regarded as a safety issue, please direct me to the the correct place. *tr

Not having problems with car until after recall 12n03. returned 3 days later for repair. still having problems. took to another ford dealership. they want to replace the part that was recalled and charge me approximately $800.00. main ford customer service has been contacted numerous times and have not heard back from them with any information concerning my issue. *tr

Car drives on its own! if i do not have foot on gas on break it will continue to move. said failsafe mode then check engine light illuminated, dash board said check engine check transmission then the light went out the following day. now driving back to normal. i took to auto zone the day it went haywire & they advised me its a possible recall several ppl said the same issue with their ford.

While attempting to slow to a stop or make a turn, at approximately 25 mph, the transmission downshifted hard. it does not do this while speeding up. i have had two mechanics tell me there is no known fix, short of replacing the transmission, and there is no information available, parts brake down, etc, for them to diagnosis the problem. i had the vehicle at a ford dealer to have the throttle body issue fixed. at that time, the power control module and the transmission control module were both re-programmed. no long term fix was achieved. *tr

Since purchasing the ford five hundred there has been a high idle (rpms) when starting the car. we mentioned it several times and were told to let it idle till the rpms go down un 10,0000. we have done this since we bought the car and sit and wait for the rpms to go down before engaging into drive. forunately we have not experienced the power surges other have or the car shutting off while driving. recently we received a letter to bring the car in to have the throttle body cleaned and was told this would solve our issue. this was done on 5/23/13 and the next day the engine light came on and a wrench and we still had the idle problem. the car would act funny and when pulled off road and shut car off. when turned back on the lights would go off. every day until we left for vacation when we took it to our mechanic for an oil change and check the brakes my husband explained what was going on and asked him to test it with the analyzer. the car did not give us theses problems till after the cleaning. the mechanic called and said that the throttle body was bad we told him that we just had a recall for it to be cleaned. he said maybe it needed to be rest/calculated. we went back to ford dealer when we returned and they said it was not their problem and to call corporate service number and they also said was not there problem and we could have a new one put in at our cost. even though there may be one that cleaning does not help it was still our problem. i will not be buyin a ford product again because of our experiences with ford to date. The automatic gear shifter has a rubber mat under the metal plate with the prndl gears listed. it is difficult to shift out of p and then then you reach r and d the mat has bunched up so much that the metal plate telling you what gear you're in pops off. this is an extreme hazard, as i back into the road and then to put it in d, not knowing where d is because the plate pops off, i could be hit. i also have a 2008 ford taurus experiencing the same problem. i called ford and they acted as if there were no previous issues. this is certainly not true. this will cause an accident or fatality. *tr

I had previously had problems with unintended acceleration when parked and then putting the car into reverse (automatic transmission). after reading many complaints on your site in which consumers said the throttle body had been diagnosed as causing the problem, i had the dealership replace the throttle body. Car was brought in for throttle recall 3/28/13. upon the return, the car began experiencing erratic surges of rpm/speed. gears did not shift right with intermittent acceleration until vehicle shut off while driving on highway, barely escaping accident. vehicle would not start & had to be brought back to dealer. dealer stated it was a pre-exiting condition despite vehicle not having any prior issues before recall service. dealer diagnosed & agreed to replace fuel filter. vehicle restarted, but still with intermittent acceleration and improper gear shift surges at any speed. on 4/6/13, while driving on highway vehicle experienced several engine failures, narrowly escaping accident again. shortly after while completely stopped, vehicle lunged forward hitting another vehicle from behind, causing severe damage to both bumpers along with engine failure. car was brought back to dealer once again, and dealer refused to take accountability and re-service, stating it was a pre-existing condition. unserviced vehicle remains unusable and considered a hazard to drive. vehicle sits in stadium ford quality auto mall, rutherford nj with no resolve from ford despite numerous complaints. *tr

The headlight socket on both headlights are over heating and melting causing the bulb not to operate. i'm just nervous that this will cause a fire as all the parts are plastic. i also noted on line that it is a very real problem and i'm not the only one experiencing this. *tr

In august 2010, i had the continuously variable transmission replaced at ~98,000 miles. luckily, it was under warranty. now in october 2012, the second transmission as the service member said at the ford dealership "the transmission exploded, we're not even sure how you were able to drive this vehicle. this was at ~146,000 miles, but there is only ~48,000 miles on the transmission itself. two transmissions have failed in this vehicle. searching the internet i have come across several instances of the ford five hundreds continuously variable transmission failing. i called the ford care line to report it, but they claim they are unaware of any issues. my concern is this third transmission will also fail at some point. *tr

My car surges. it is mostly at idle speed. it's dangerous. i was at a drive through and a janitor was sweeping. my car surged and i literally stood on the breaks to prevent running over him. at the drive through it surged forward and i had to stand on the breaks to prevent it from ramming into the car ahead. it occurs more when air conditioning is running but will occur without ac on. i the local dealer replaced the throttle body recently but it still surges. it occurs when pulling to a stop at the lights or at the drive through as you slowly move forward. it happens when pulling into a parking spot or when backing up. i've seen news about the problem with the ford escape. my ford 500 is also affected and weighs a whole lot more. if this thing surges forward it could do some serious damage. *tr

2005 ford five hundred. consumer writes in regards to hard shifting and two instrument panel lights illuminating. *tgw the consumer also stated the rpm's would race at times. the consumer went to her local dealer and a diagnostic's test revealed a problem with the pcv valve. the pcv was replaced at a cost of $ 112.95. however, it did not resolve the problem. the consumer went back to the dealer for a transmission diagnostic test, but the dealer was unable to give a definitive answer as tow hat the problem was. ford customer service was then contacted and they informed the dealer to replace the transmission at a cost of $5000. there was also another intermittent problem where the vehicle would rev while stopped at a stop sign, or red light etc. after getting other opinions, the consumer was informed, the problem was not with the transmission. after doing some research online, the consumer discovered it was a very common occurrence with her particular make, which seemed to be a manufacturing defect.

On hot days, when backing out of parking spaces, the car has sometimes "surged" meaning that there has been unintended acceleration without the accelerator being pressed at all. i have had to suddenly and firmly put my foot on the brake to prevent the car from hitting other vehicles. this has happened on several occasions in august of 2012. i own a 2006 ford five hundred also and it has had the same problem in the same conditions (filing separate complaint). *tr

My ford five hundred has been unexpectedly surging when releasing the brake pedal when going forward and reverse. it has almost caused me to hit other vehicles in a parking lot on several occasions and makes it extremely difficult to control the speed of the vehicle when starting to accelerate. something needs to be done about this issue. i am not the only person who is experiencing this. there are many more people who have posted the same issue on blogs and websites i have read. please look into this issue. *tr

Out side air temp was approx 96 degrees so ac was on . while shifting into reverse the vehicle lunged so hard it was uncontrollable,and unstoppable, if some one had stepped out behind me they would have died as i could only stop reward movement by shifting into drive. this occurred three times trying to get out of a parking space at a crowded mall.the vehicle then stalled. the lunging was so fast the brakes could hardly hold the car from moving in reverse. in checking there is a service bulletin tsb-05-25-13 from ford motor company on this very issue but no recall, also many incidents/accidents recorded in this regard. if i was not prepared enough during this incident in a crowded parking lot some one would have died, this must be addressed b-4 someone is run over. currently ford has no comment. please contact me for further details. *tr

After having turned onto a 35 mph street, having only reached 30mph, the rpm's shot up to six and the car accelerated to almost 40 without the gas peddle having been pressed. if there were another car stopped or a person in front of us they would have been hit. another time the vehicle was at a stop light and again with out warning the cars rpm's shot up to about six. if my foot had not been applied completely to the breaks i would have been in a busy intersection resulting in the car having been totaled, death of more then one person. this is not safe. *tr

The car sudden surges forward or back when moving out of park. if your foot is not firmly on the brake it will go move significantly. upon research online and talking to ford directly this is known problem that is not under re-call yet but should be. our local ford dealer carries the throttle bottle in stock because they sell so many of them. they average 10 a year. a simple research of the problem shows up. it is extremely dangerous. also if there is quick stop it will go to a fail safe mode and basically shut off the car completely. the car has to be shut off and restarted in order to move the vehicle again. the throttle bottle must be replaced in order for it to be safe as a parts cost of almost $600.00. *tr

The electronic throttle body is bad in majority of vehicles in my class year. this costly repair causes the vehicle to lunge forward while in drive and lunge backwards while in reverse. it is worst when the ac is on,,it causes the vehicle to idle high and low to the point of almost shutting off the vehicle in traffic. *tr

We were driving down a highway and went to get back to speed after passing through a speed zone. i noticed a decrease in power and looked at the information screen. the fail safe mode and the "wrench" icon was on. i pulled the car over and turned it off. i then turned it on and the car acted normal. it has happened twice since the first incident. my wife took it to the dealership and ford cannot duplicate the problem and the issue does not throw a check engine code or leaves any type of electronic history of the issue. i cannot allow my wife to drive this car because she is seven month pregnant and cannot have her drive it if the car breaks down due to this issue. *tr

On hot summer days and only on hot summer days when stopped at light or stopped period car begins to surge forward while holding brake. went asked ford why is this happening they said they don't know. that i should get the throttle body and mass air flow sensor serviced if not done already. i guess it had to be done at 90k but i did not know. well i did what they said, went home and car is now idling rough went back and they want to charge me another $90 dollars ontop of the $105 they have already charged me for the throttle and mafs. i have almost gotten in numerous accidents because of this but ford doesn't want to acknowledge that this is a problem with this car. *tr

This happens frequently almost daily in the summer. but on a hot day (90+) when moving from a stopped position out of a parking spot or around a corner, when you lightly have the brake pedal depressed if you turn the wheel slightly (ie backing out of a tight parking space) the car will lunge violently and aggressively in what ever direction you are traveling, sometimes so aggressively it will stall the vehicle out and then go into a failsafe mode. this is very dangerous as you could unexpectedly hit someone walking around the car at a stop sign or crosswalk. i have also found numerous other complaints on various blogs, forums, and other sites. everyone basically stating the dealer gives them the run around. and as long as it is a hot day i can duplicate the results continuously, and would be more than willing to show this to someone else if possible. i am typically not one to complain, but i feel very strongly about the safety of this vehicle, especially since i have a 3yr old daughter. *tr

So here i am another victim of a faulty throttle body. thanks ford i love when my car takes off on me without notice, especially when you have kids in the car. how many of these do i have to read before action is taken. does it take a death or serious accident. cost me 718 dollars i expect a recall soon and my money back i will not quit until this is taken care of. it's sad when you go to a mechanic and they say "wow there is still not a recall on this". oh by the way it is such a common problem i diagnosed my own car issue in 5 minutes by using google and typing failsafe engine mode. *tr

When back up the car accelerates like you are on the gas but the gas pedal is not touch. when the car comes to a stop and the foot is on the brake, once you take the foot off the brake the car accelerates without warning. this has happen if stop at a light, backing out or even while in park the car will just accelerate without warning! my daughter almost hit a couple of people walking in the cross walk and all she did was release the brake to move up after a car turn and accelerated without warning. i have had the car accelerate after just being stop at a light or moving at slow speed without touching the gas, but it does not happen all the time. last oil change at ford dealership there was nothing wrong with transmission fluid and there were no leaks...... *tr

During hot ( 95 degrees) afternoon, with a/c on high, vehicle revs and lurches while vehicle is in gear. hard pressure on the break will stop the vehicle, but engine revs still continue. engine then dies and ' engine fail safe mode ' appears. turning the vehicle off and waiting to restart resets the fail safe mode. allowing vehicle to cool down clears the short term problem. reported to local ford dealer who claims to have not heard of the problem. *tr

During warm weather with the a/c operating, the rpms surge and the vehicle lunges in the direction of the transmission lever selection (forward or reverse) when moving the shift lever from park to drive or from park to reverse with driver's foot on the brake. engine rpms surge up to approx. 1,500 from idle at a dead stop without input from accelerator pedal. different indicator lights come on and often the engine dies after the surge. if driver does not keep appropriate pressure on break pedal while shifting from park, the vehicle will accelerate without input from gas pedal. this surge also happens when decelerating to a stop. vehicle slows down and rpms decrease to approx 600 (idle), and with pressure applied to brake pedal, engine rpms will increase, without input from accelerator pedal, forcing the driver to increase pressure on brake pedal or risk uncontrolled forward movement. initial reports indicate a faulty throttle body as referenced in nhtsa investigation # pe110818. *tr

While stuck in rush hour traffic, car was at a complete stop at a red light. when trying to let off the gas, the car lurched forward almost plowing into the car in front of me. this occurred on 06/20/2012. during summer 2011, this same type of behavior occurred 4 different times. the entire process begins with the car being at a complete stop, then when letting off the gas, the car's engine rev's and the car lurches forward requiring the driver to slam on the breaks from hitting other drivers/pedestrians. when the vehicle does this lurching forward motion, several red lights come on the instrument panel and also the computer reads an error of "failsafe engine mode". power steering, power brakes have been lost while this event occurs as well. seems as if it could be affected by warmer weather because i have owned the vehicle two years and have only had this happen during warmer (90 degree or more) weather. during summer 2011, two occurrences happened that also almost caused collisions. the first time was on a summer night in a parking garage. as i was coming into a stop in a parking space, the engine lurched forward and came approximately 4-5 inches from hitting a concrete wall. during the other occurrence, i was stopping at a red light and came close to running over a pedestrian due to lurching from car. when car enters "failsafe engine mode' and lurches forward, car must be parked and restarted for the vehicle to run normally again. also, it only happens at low speeds (i.e. when slowing the car below 5 mph or first beginning to accelerate the car while still below 5 mph). other owners that have experienced this same issue can be found here: http://www.fordtaurus.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9366 and also: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/ford/five+hundred/10439966 *tt

While parking, with foot on brake the car surged forward. the a/c was on as well. it has now happened 7 more times all while the a/c is on either parking or reversing from a parking spot. *js

Throttle body malfunction. engine reves up while placing the car in drive or reverse without touching the gas pedal, up to 1.5 on the rpm's on the speedometer. this is very scary, a child crossed in front of me while i was waiting at a stop sign. foot was on the brake but all of a sudden it just reved up. it lunged forward and i hd to really put that break on. scared me and the child to. i bought the car new and had all service done from the ford dealer in the service person there told my husband that this part "throttle body" was made by the same manufacturer that made the toyota parts that went bad "sticking gas pedals" ? and that toyota recalled this dangerous issue and fixed it. unless my husband misunderstood this gentleman, which i don't think he did. i spoke to ford and placed a complaint and they told me that there had been complaints, but there was no recall issued as yet, but hold onto my receipt in case there is a recall issued in the future. this will cost $850.00, "which i feel should be picked up by ford". pressing normally on the breaks is not good enough, you have to almost put it to the floor so that you do not move and pray that it doesn't lunge forward in the transition from break to gas pedal. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

Vehicle slipped out of drive into neutral while ascending hill. i had to pull over completely and stop, shift into low and slowly back into drive. the car behind me almost rear ended me as i had lost power with no warning. car once warmed starts to buck violently while driving at an even speed, bucks violently when coming to a stop and randomly slips out of gear with no warning. i have had this car since 2009 and have pot less then 20000 miles on it. the dealer tells me the computer does not read any problems. *tr

While changing a tire the jack collapsed under my vehicle. fortunately i was not under the car and the wheel was still on the car. it appears that the female threads on the jack stripped away. *tr

My wife, son and i were driving. the vehicle had random acceleration while at full stopped. about 10 minutes later after a full stop the vehicle had another acceleration while foot on brake and the vehicle stalled out. once stalled out the computer displayed the following error "fail safe engine". after doing an online review i noticed that many other ford five hundred owners having the same issue and seems to be caused by "throttle body". please note that whenever the vehicle is on park and put into reverse, the higher acceleration takes place. i always have to be extra careful. i have to be extra careful while driving as i am afraid for acceleration and stalling out in the middle of the road. *tr

When you are driving the vehicle will stop accelerating and a fail safety mode light comes on, if you pull over and restart it, it will restart and happens a few minutes later. *tr

Engine randomly accelerates during hot weather and cold starts. took to ford garage who reported defective spark plug wire. did not fix problem which has recurred. gt error code from parts store. ford dealer declined existence of such code. online search revealed reports of throttle body malfunction which can be treated with fuel additive. seemed to stop it for a while but has recurred on several occasions. another non dealer repair shop could not find defect. problem has again recurred with first hot(over 90) weather. *tr

I had the need to avoid an accident by suddenly changing lanes but when i step on the gas pedal my transmission failed to shift to higher speed. instead two clunking sounds took place before finally switching into higher gear .i was able to avoid the car in front of me , but now the car behind me almost rear ended us. this would have created a fatal chain reaction we could have been crushed in. i found out this cars have a great amount of failures on record ford 500 2005 please help *js

I have an ongoing issue with the transmission de-engaging when the temperature of the transmission warms up. when i accelerate when passing or using the cruise control the transmission will dis-engage leaving me with no forward power, i must put the car in neutral and hope it engages all the while almost being run over by two semi-trucks. this happened almost a dozen times down and back on my trip from buffalo to peapack nj on monday 4/16/2012. this is a know problem that ford is aware on the five hundred model, montego and some fusion models. many start to fail at less than 30,000 miles and happened at 65,000 miles on my vehicle. i consider this an extremely dangerous situation and amazed no one has been killed due to these defective transmissions. the ford forum has over 10 pages of complaints regarding this problem. ford told me they would not do anything unless there was a recall.

I notice years ago that when i would be backing up or pulling into a parking spot that my car would want to accelerate or just speed up. i would be barely pressing on the brake because i was letting the car use it's idleness speed to back out of the space or pull into the parking space. my husband thought it was because i was using the adjustable foot pedal. he does not drive the car very much. shortly after this all started we purchased me another car, i stop driving my ford 500 very much. it sits in the garage a lot. i let my daughter use the car once and she complain of the same thing happening to her and how it scared her. i am also scared of it and only drive it in emergency and i always try to be prepared to expect this to happen. it has no pattern of when or how it happens it all unexpected, working properly one minute and speeding up the next. this car has one other issue when it rains it leaks we find water in the floor on the driver side floor. this car is available for testing if needed because we have a 2nd car that i drive because of this issue. we keep it because it is paid for. *tr

Since 2007 the car intermittently will periodically lung forward and it is almost impossible to control the car. this has happened several times since june 2007 (88,000 miles). even hard braking does not necessarily stop the car...i have had to put the car in neutral the engine revs up as if i am touching the accelerator (and my foot is not on the pedal) and i shut the car off. turning the car back on does not necessarily remedy the problem. in addition, the car routinely goes into fail safe engine mode or cuts off while i am driving at a reasonable rate of speed both on rural roads and highways. this car is a hazard to drive, more so in the warmer months...my thought is something must get overheated but what i do not know. *tr

This has happened multiple times (meaning more than 5 times) during the summer of 2011. driving on highway at posted speed limits and car suddenly lurches then drops into failsafe mode (as indentified by alert posted on the dash). pull over, read owner's manual. follow directions how to clear failsafe and implement them. a few times it worked for short periods of time. other times, it would not work at all. twice the car was running at approximately 65 mph and suddenly go into failsafe mode then stall out. especially during street/city driving, car suddenly kicks forward then failsafe and will sometimes stall out in middle of street. unable to restart. last time this occurred car required towing to local ford dealer. initially said it was the throttle senor for a cost of $300. when i ok'd that repair, the dealership called back later and stated it was the entire throttle body and repair would come at a cost of $1000. the car now sits in my driveway where it was towed to and sits for safety reasons. after researching the internet, i have come to find that this is a common occurrence with ford and an announced recall should be implemented immediately. *kb

Driving from sj to la, calif. 200 miles into my journey with wife and 3 kids, pulled off highway for gas. slowed down and noticed the wrench and check engine lights on and car would only go 10 to 15 miles per hour and revved at more than 3000 rpms. the car clunked hard when put into drive or reverse. turned off the engine, several times and restarted. sometimes fixed problem, other times did not. i had car towed to hanford, california, and then again to los angeles-another 198 miles to ford dealership. i had to rent a car and drive the rest of the way to la and drive back - 198 miles-to hanford-to return the rental car. i tested the car a few times in hanford and when it was at the ford dealer. from a cold start, the car worked fine. drove and shifted well with no problems. but once the car warmed up, it went back into limp-mode, clunked hard when you shifted into drive or reverse, and would go only 10-15 mph at 3000 or more rpms. the dealer test drove it and had the same result. the dealer got codes p0701, p0871, and p0961 and said that meant the transmission had internal problems. they said they called ford engineers who told them the likely problem was when the transmission fluid warms up, it is not properly circulating due to leaks in what they called two variators inside the transmission. they quoted the cost to replace the variators as $3600 for parts and labor of $1200 for a total of $4800 and that is more than the cost to replace the transmission for which they quoted $4500. so they replaced the transmission. after starting, they found a broken transmission mount so they replaced that for another $250 (part only - no labor charge). i test drove the new transmission yesterday. the car no longer goes into limp mode and drives nicely except after it warms up it clunks hard into drive and reverse and wines in reverse gear. not taking car till fixed properly. *tr

I was driving down a residential street when all of the sudden the engine stalled on me and i received a "failsafe engine mode" message in the message center. i stopped the car and shut off the engine, then waited a couple of minutes and started it again and had no problems. i was then driving down a residential street again a couple of days later and the same thing happened where the engine stalled on me. the only warning signs that i can recall were that at times, i would experience sluggish acceleration. this is a huge issue to me and very dangerous since i have a child and what if i was traveling on the highway and this happened to me? *tr

Driving in town, at approx 25mph. car jerked/lurched suddently, then entered limp home mode. pulled over, turned off car. restarted and check engine light came on. turns out it is a throttle body failure. shop says this is a very dangerous situation - the car could suddenly accelerate/decelerate without notice. looking at online forums - it seem a fairly common failure, and something ford should issue a safety recall on. *tt

We bought my car in july 2011, its was garaged by the 1st owner so it was like brand new!! low miles just 12,850 , start what now seems to be the endless drives in a rental car and with empty wallets totaling now approx; close to an additional $3,500 now in repairs from the battery in aug 2011 to now to having the throttle being replace along with a set if tires and the 2nd set of both rear and front brakes in less then a year , all due to the consent stopping and going of the car by hitting the brakes too much and having to accelerate, because the car would while tempting to pull out of my garage at what should of been a mere 3miles per hour; resulted in flying backwards suddenly while foot was applying pressure on the brakes to keep from mowing down my teenage son at 15 miles a hour on its own with the mp rising rapidly , was the scare of my life!!!! please someone recall this car , before someone really does get killed or hurt!!! as of today the total this time to repair my car is at a total if$ 1,585.00; to replace the throttle and tires & brakes again, and ford wouldn't even comp, us a rental car this time on our 5 trip down to the service dept of ford!!!! *tr

My needles and controls fail on my 2005 ford five hundred awd. i have had the cluster replaced twice (out of pocket) when it fails, my reverse lights come on, turn signals fail and sometimes my radio fails (not really a safety issue but is annoying) my airbags are deactive when the event occurs. i know ford knows about the issue and should do a recall as i have noticed (more than i should for there not to be a recall) alot of other five hundred/monteigo drivers with the exact same problem. *tr

Not long after purchasing my vehicle my husband and i were driving on the interstate with the cruise control on and the transmission stopped working. we were able to pull off safely onto the shoulder and shut the car off and once restarted was fine. we have since stopped using cruise control in fear of an accident. the problem is still there and seems to be getting worse. the dash will light check transmission, traction control and sometimes check engine. once the car is turned off and back on it is fine for a while, the check engine light takes some time to go off. it is getting so we are afraid to drive it, sometimes it drives fine and others the transmission quits. the other day i went to pass a car and the lights came on as i had moved into the lane to pass on the interstate. once i was in my lane again a few minutes later it does it again and this time a big mac truck is coming up on me. i have read of several problems of this with this same car and it has been said there is a problem with the throttle body and/or electrical system. this is very dangerous and ford should be issuing a recall to fix the problem before someone is injured or killed. *tr

Cars enters into failsafe mode and engine cuts out. i have been almost rear- ended three times since first occurrence and one time almost t-boned. sluggish acceleration when taking off may occur also. i have noticed this has been a common problem with this model and the faulty throttle body has since been redesigned by ford. they should recall this as it is a safety hazard. i know that i was lucky to have not been injured in an accident due to this faulty part, but i am sure some have not been so lucky. *tr

Similar issue as in pe07058. instrument cluster fails for extended periods. in this time i have no instrumentation available, speed, rpm, fuel, etc. multiple warning lights illuminate, including airbag. all interior lighting dims significantly. reverse lights illuminate even while in park, or driving forward. *tr

The throttle body is defective and needs to be replaced. the symptoms are very dangerous: the car goes into fail safe mode and cannot accelerate. on one occasion this happened in the middle of the road; fortunately it was a quiet street and i was able to coast to the side of the street. if this had happened on a busy street it could have caused injury or death. several mechanics did different kinds of repairs, but the problem kept recurring. we are now getting the throttle body replaced and hope this is the final repair that removes the problem. numerous other ford five hundred owners have experienced this (per internet research). ford needs to recall the five hundred and replace the throttle body to prevent injury or death. *tr

2005 ford five hundred sel 3.0l v6 automatic 6 speed transmission accelerating on interstate car severely hard shifted and then rpms flared let off gas and car slammed into a lower gear now car hard shifts in down gears and rpms go up car doesn't move sometimes while accelerating very sporadic and dangerous. *tr

Tsb 10-2-13. i have inner rear tire wear, especially on the right (this likely existed when purchased new). there is a tsb that talks about some cars with rr negative camber, (which my car does have), and also talks about how to modify the rear control arm to remedy the problem. the danger in this defect is a blowout of a tire or tires while driving. car is immaculate. i bought it new and take great care of it. this is obviously a defect given how many other owners are commenting it on-line via forums. also, there is a tsb on it, so ford is aware of it. even though they should take care of it since it is a defect, they won't. ford, even with all their hype on quality and safety as job one, are just a bunch of hypocrites. they act only when forced to do so by you folks at the federal level. i'm old school. it's all about integrity for me. why do you think ford still lives up to their reputation as fix or repair daily. had a similar issue with the rear brakes several years ago on this vehicle. i took it for ford and they would not own up to it until i complained to you folks like many other did and they finally reimbursed us because of your intervention. again, they always have to be forced to do the right thing! just a bunch of thugs. where is elliot ness when you need him! 02/15/10. suspension - rear tire inner edge wear ford: 2005-2007 five hundred, freestyle, 2008-2009 taurus x, taurus. *kb

Not sure the exact time but within the past year or so my 2005 ford five hundred ( purchased new) is going into failsafe mode limited throttle power, very sporadic at first but now happening quite often. if you pull over and shut the car off and restart it clears and drives normal. my daughter was driving it yesterday and it happened 7 times from mall to the house (about 20 miles). once while she was in heavy traffic driving about 55 mph. car jerked then started slowing down. this is a safety issue that needs to be looked at. very dangerous. my mechanic is trouble shooting problem, looking like throttle body or gas pedal. i believe ford came out with a new throttle body in 2010 to correct the problem (tsb 05-25-13)but will only replace it at their cost if still under warranty, otherwise the cost is on us the consumer. I unfortunately own a 05 ford five hundred with 95,784 miles on it. the problem started happening about a year ago and at first i thought that it was my foot hitting the gas when i put my foot on the brake. then i noticed when i would but it in gear it would try to take off on it's own. i finally had enough just last night i was in a drive thru line and i put it in drive from neutral and i came inches from rear ended the person in front of me. today i'm taking it to the dealership to get fixed hopefully. not looking forward to paying a $1000 dollars for a common problem. well ford you lost me as a buyer. *tr

The vehicle lunges while holding the brake when putting into reverse or drive and continues to do so while waiting to pull into traffic making it very dangerous! it also does this while trying to park making it dangerous to park near anything! i have seen several complaints regarding this very same problem stating it is a throttle body defect that costs at lowest $700.00 to repair. front suspension is shot already with loud clunking noises, very rough ride! rear doors fill with water which will result in rust holes! all of these problems have been reported several times by other owners of this same year and make of vehicle. ford should be responsible for the repairs needed to fix these problems. *tr

The car accelerates by itself and transmission is not performing correctly as it does not accelerate after braking after the transmission warms up , they said it was throttlebody but replaced that and trans fluid but still have same trouble after about 30 miles of driving . this could get people killed and it should be recalled no ifs ands or buts about it !!!!!! ford take care of your customers. *tr

Vehicle will intermittently stall when accelerating from a stop. the vehicle has stalled numerous times in the middle of executing a turn, leaving the vehicle and occupants in a dangerous situation. a ford dealership diagnosed the problem as being the throttle body, however, after replacing the very expensive throttle body, the problem persists. a non-ford mechanic is now saying it is more likely loose wiring and is working to diagnose the exact wiring issue causing the problem. there seem to be many people online with the same stalling issue. in addition to the stalling, the vehicle has also been surging sporadically. it surges forward (or backward) without the accelerator being pressed. it appears that my vehicle is not the only one affected by this problem. ford needs to be held accountable for the precarious position they are putting vehicle owners in.

As i was parking in a parking garage, the car surged forward. it happened occasionally over the next year, but during the past year it became more frequent and pronounced. i would need to put it in park at red lights to insure i did not lurch forward into the car in front of me. we took it to a ford dealership and for almost $900 they replaced the throttle control. the problem still exists, but not as pronounced or frequent. however new symptoms appeared including intermittently dimming dashboard lights and the air conditioner began to surge up and down almost as if it were gasping for air. this lunging forward when your foot is on the brake or you are at a minimal speed could be dangerous.

Backing out of the driveway in a 2005 ford 500 awd, car stumbles then launched backward violently. luckily i had my foot on the brake or the car would have kept going. "failsafe engine mode" appears on the dashboard. this has happened several times before. should be a recall on this car. *kb

The vehicle in question was idling in park. vehicle was shifted into reverse with the foot on the brake. once foot was released from the brake the car lunged backward, the tachometer read about 3000 rpm, with no pressure on the gas pedal. just as quickly pressure was applied to the brake and the car entered "engine failsafe mode" and shut down. turning the vehicle off and restarting would clear the problem. this has happened 4 more times since the reported incident date, all with the same circumstances. the vehicle had the a/c on and was idling in approximately 90 degree fahrenheit temperatures with +50% relative humidity. *kb

I have the wrench light up on the dash board and it said engine failsafe mode in the message centre? this started happening to me a few weeks ago from time to time. no warning, i just accelerate from a red light and i notice i have no power, i look down and sure enough - wrench is lit and engine failsafe mode. i pull over, turn the car off for a few minutes and then the problem is gone when i start again. i couldn't find any specific info on what is causing this around the 'net - and even the manual says, if it is persists, take it to the dealer. it happened a few more times, but this time it seemed the rpm's were revving without my foot on the accelerator. i had my foot on the brake so nothing happened, but did it a few times, so i brought it to the dealer last week. they ran some diagnostics and ultimately said they repaired a vacuum hose at my airbox. ok, sure, whatever. next two days, no problem. the third day, happened again. this time, i was going into an underground parking spot and it started revving and i ended up (very lightly) hitting the wall as it lurched forward. when i went to leave the spot - in reverse - happened again - almost hit the parked car behind, as it lurched. so took it to the dealer this morning - and the service advisor mentioned he suspects the throttlebody as he has had some other 500's in for the same thing. no idea why, but the computer didn't have a code for the throttlebody problem last time - but it did this time, so as i write this, they are putting the new one on and i'll be there in an hour to pick it up. *tr

We have a 2005 ford five hundred. two days ago, the car failed to respond when the accelerator was pressed, even as it was pressed to the floor. the wrench light came on and the car started lunging and hesitating in addition to not accelerating properly. this occurred while driving through a very busy intersection; thankfully, i was able to move the car with my two small children out of traffic. a diagnostic computer provided two codes - p2106 and p061b. this is not the first time the car has lunged; it has been doing this for approximately 1.5 years. it has repeated this several times in both drive and reverse. in most instances, the air conditioner was running at the same time; however, the car has lunged when the a/c was not on. the lunging occurs when the car is being driven or sitting idle (i.e., stop lights, preparing to merge into traffic). i have been able to avoid accidents by keeping my foot firmly on the brake and by creating a large stopping distance cushion. we contacted the dealer and were told the entire throttle body would need replaced, at a cost of over $530.00. we are now reviewing our options. *tr

The car entered engine "failsafe mode" and shut down while trying to merge into traffic on a busy rush-hour highway. after pulling over and restarting the engine, operation was normal. this was the 3rd time in a 2.5 week period this occurred. the car experienced the same issues in july 2010 frequently (it had existed for 2-3 year on and off before then). ford applied the service alert fix by replacing the throttle body and refreshing the pcm. this fix has not worked. the car will sporadically enter failsafe mode on warm days when trying to accelerate/shift gears. the original fix in july 2010 was covered under warranty. in october 2010 there was a transmission control failure and the computer had to be replaced. the warranty had expired and the fix cost $2000. operation was normal during the winter months, however, when the warm weather returned so did the problem. an independent mechanic believes the failsafe mode issue was the beginning of the transmission failure and ford should not have charged $2000 for a new computer. the problem has not been resolved and continues to occur. the dealership's suggestion is to pull over and restart the car to clear the computer. the car is unsafe to drive, especially on multiple lane highways. once the failsafe mode engages, there is little power to get the car off the road. if you are on an incline it will stop altogether. this is a dangerous situation and the possibility of a rear end collision is great. ford has not issued a recall, only a service alert for a fix that does not work. *tr

This is the second time the dash cluster has failed in my ford five hundred. it was replaced the first time. while under the part warranty of 12mo/12k miles, the cluster failed again. i took it to the dealer and they pulled the identical codes as the first time they replaced the cluster, but would not replace it this time because none of the indicator lamps where on at the time they looked at it. now the wrench, traction control, check engine are lit, and the display reads check engine, check transmission, and transmission data error. these are the same as the last time when it was replaced. the car will not accelerate properly, and this time after parking the car it would not restart. i came back in about 20min. and the car started. i took it to the dealer, now out of the part warranty and now they immediately want to replace the cluster. seems ford just wanted me to pay for the repair, again. *tr

I purchased a used 2005 ford 500 ltd awd in may 2008. i was told it was a lease turn in. the mileage was very low, under 30,000 miles. the factory warranty expired in july 2008. in october 2008, my dash began malfunctioning. the gauges would go completely dead. i could not tell how fast i was going, how much gas i had left or the temperature of the engine. nothing on my dash would work. it varied from lasting seconds to appx a half an hour. i drove home one night (it took me appx 25 minutes) not knowing how fast i was going or how much gas i had left. also, the reverse lights were on when my car was in both drive and park. i stopped at a red light (my car was in drive) and the reverse sensor alarm went off when a car pulled up behind me. we took it to the dealership we bought it from & were told it was a cluster in the dash that was a "known problem with this vehicle" but because it was not a "safety issue" ford did not have to recall this. i feel that not being able to know what speed you are driving down the highway to be a huge safety issue. also having your reverse lights on while the car is in park or drive seems a bit dangerous as well. we had it repaired and it cost us over 400.00. about 2 weeks ago, we had to have another "cluster" repaired that was making my transmission shake & the check engine light as well another warning light appear. it was a sensor that went bad and was making my car think it was out of gas. this cost us almost 350.00 to repair. not sure what's going on with the sensors/clusters on these cars but it seems to be a safety issue to me. *tr

The gauges periodically go flat and the reverse lights come on. ford knows about this, they've issued a technical service bulletin (tsb 06-17-9). the problem is a faulty solder joint and the instrument cluster needs to be replaced. this is not due to normal wear from driving but from poor design and should be recalled. ford should correct their mistakes.

Defective electronic throttle body (etb) on 2005 ford 500, freestyle, and mercury montego. causes car to move forward or backward in drive or reverse without using any pressure on the gas pedal. must place foot on the brake to avoid running into something, especially while parking. ford has a technical service bulletin (tsb 05-25-13) on this but has not notified any owners of vehicles affected to date. it appears that ford has come up with a new replacement part for the etb unlike the original that was just made available in july 2010. i paid a local ford dealer $128.08 to have this problem diagnosed and another $615.83 to have it fixed. i was told the etb part number was "5f9z-9e926-aa". another number for the new etb part on my sales slip dated 07/30/10 was fmc 6f9z 9e926 a. they called it a kit for the electronic throttle body. the price for the kit was $495.86. since i have heard of this problem coming up on more than one occasion, i thought i would turn it in for your investigation. since the affect of the defective etb actually can cause the car to move on its own, forward or reverse, and requires you to use your brakes simultaneously to keep it from hitting adjoining objects, i thought this is a safety hazard that should be addressed on several ford and mercury 2005 products, it is not the money, it is the safety issue i am most interested in. to parallel park or get into a parking stall with this problem was a real chore keeping you foot on the brake as you tried to maneuver in and out of a parking space. if you did not hold your foot on the brake, the car would move in its own either in drive or reverse. this is not acceptable and a true safety hazard, but i have not seen the problem on the recall lists for my car or others affected in the ford tsb. nor have auto owners been notified by ford or offered compensation for the expense to have the kit installed.

Around 102, 000 miles, during a snow storm, i was driving my 2005 ford five hundred awd limited on a main road. as i was driving, the car seemed to "lurch". i reacted by removing my foot from the gas, in fear the car was sliding on ice, and the wrench illuminated on my dash, as it displayed "failsafe engine mode". the car continued to drive, and the engine was still running. however, it was not handling very smoothly. i pulled over and turned the vehicle off. i waited ten seconds and started the car. everything was fine. i began to drive on the road again, and the situation repeated. the car seemed to shift very hard, and the wrench illuminated and "failsafe engine mode" was displayed. the check engine light also illuminated. i pulled over and turned the car off again. once i turned it back on, the check engine light was still on. two days later, i disconnected the battery and when the car was reconnected, the check engine light had turned off. atleast one month passed with no problems or re-occurrences. however, this morning, there was another snow storm. while i was driving, the car lurched again, the "failsafe engine mode" displayed, and the check engine light is on again. both occurrences have been followed by the inability of my car to drive well in the snow. both times my car has fishtailed horribly, and been difficult to maintain. this problem did not occur until this winter, and i have had it since august of 2008. *tr

I took my 2005 ford five hundred sel in for a scheduled oil change a couple of weeks ago and was informed by the mechanic that the torque strut mount, also known as the top motor mount was broken. price to repair is $619. after doing more extensive research, i have found out that this is apparently a dealer known problem with these particular cars! so, why doesn't ford motor company issue a recall to fix these faulty parts instead of making consumers pay these ridiculous repair bills??! *tr

While driving the instrument panel blacked out and when it came back on the instruments all registered 0. after the initial incident it has continued to escalate. on or about december 26, 2010 the panel blacked out and the car bogged down and i had to pull off of the road, turn the car off and restart to get it to run normally. there is a real safety issue with the car and i feel that there should be a recall on this vehicle.

As i was slowing to turn off of a state highway, my car shut off and displayed a message that said "failsafe engine mode." i was somewhat able to steer, so i completed my turn onto a side street, where the car drifted to a stop. i was able to restart the car and drive home. the next morning, the car would start but immediately shut off, displaying the same error message. i had it towed to a garage, which indicated that the diagnostic test revealed a failed electronic throttle body. they ordered a replacement part, which was then installed. incidentally, the part had since been redesigned by ford. once that part was reinstalled, the computer was reflashed to "learn" that a new throttle body assembly was installed. the computer would not learn the new part, though, so a new computer had to be ordered and installed. over the last five years, this same problem (shutting off while driving) had occurred, but in each case i was able to restart the car without any further problem. this was dangerous in that my car simply shut off while i was driving,making a left turn across oncoming traffic. fortunately nobody was coming the other direction, so i was able to safely drift through the oncoming lane to another side street. also, it is important to note that while my car was at the dealership having the throttle body replaced, i was told that there were approximately five other ford five hundred vehicles in the shop at the same time for the same problem with their electronic throttles as well.

Apparently, i am not the first person to bring this issue to the nhtsa's attention. i like so many other, have also had a problem with my instrument panel on my ford five hundred. i would like for a recall to be issued as it has nearly caused me an accident today, and can lead to other hazardous driving conditions for others. the instrument panel on my car has failed completely, and my speedometer, odometer, and all other gauges shut off. whenever i drive my car, the reverse (or white) light turns on despite the fact that i might be driving forward at 55mph on a highway. i think corrective action should be taken towards a resolution. there are countless others who have filed complaints and concerns regarding this very issue.

While reversing my car it will all of a sudden accelerate quickly on its own, i immediately step on the brakes and my car stalls. on the dash board "fail safe engine mode" appears on my console. this has happened about 7 times now. *tr

Traveling on mountain highway and attempting to pass tractor trailer depressed throttle and transmission downshifted to next lower gear than slammed into the next lower gear. loss of all acceleration transmission illuminated. than transmission appears to have electronically disengaged from engine (no forward movement at all, mind you i was trying to pass) engine revolutions increased to over 7,000 rpm. both transmission light and check engine light illuminated. after a brief rest at side of rode vehicle restarted and could be moved both lights remained illuminated. after 5 or 10 restarts both error lights extinguished. *tr

Our car stalls while driving. it often happens on the highway, but also on residential streets and at all speeds. the car will lurch forward, the lights on the dashboard will all light up, and then the engine will shut down causing us to have to shift into neutral and try to pull over to safety. when we try to restart the car it will sputter and die again. occasionally we will be able to get it to a parking lot, we have had to be towed home. we have replaced the fuel pump and spark plugs. the ford dealership drove it and ran diagnostics on it for weeks at a time and found nothing to tell them anything. this has been happening every week or so for nearly a year, and no one can tell us what's wrong. there are times when it happens every day, and there are times when it doesn't happen for a month. many people's description of a defective transmission body matches our description, but that part is, apparently, on backorder. the car is essentially un-drivable, because we cannot count on it to get to us work on time or safely. *tr

I purchased a 2005 ford 500 4-door sedan 2-1/2 years ago from a ford dealership. it was described as a "program" car. i soon noticed that the dashboard display lights would not light up during daylight hours, even though the rheostat was set on maximum brilliance. i proved this by driving into a dark parking garage and saw that the said lights turned on at maximum. i asked the service manager about this and he said ford had wired the lights through the solar switch via the electronic control unit and could not be changed. this is a dangerous distraction when driving in daylight hours and to see the information o the dashboard the running lights must be turned off. in my opinion this defect needs to be remedied with a recall. thank you. *tr

Ford five hundred (500). fail safe engine mode comes on and engine " shuts down" have to pull over and restart car. it seems that it doesn't want to accelerate when you want, but does when you don't want to. serious safety issue. i had throttle body "cleaned" however, car still is not performing as it should. on top of that i had it serviced, oil change and tune up, and i am still have problems. problem still is not corrected. *tr

At first our 2005 ford five hundred had issues with instrument cluster failures (blacking out and needles zeroing etc. but now rear back up lights come on going down the highway because of this electrical problem. i believe this has to be considered a safety issue and should warrant a recall .thank you

We own a 2005 ford 500 and my wife has taken it to 3 different ford dealers to have an issue looked at. the vehicle has stalled on her over a dozen times while driving down the highway and it has gone into fail safe mode. the vehicle seems to lurch when in gear either drive or reverse. i've looked up the issue on line and it appears to be very common with this model of vehicle. throttle body and reprogramming of the pcm. i believe this to be a very big safety issue and there needs to be a recall on these before someone gets severely hurt. *tr

Hi, i have a 2005 ford five hundred while driving one day about a month ago i heard this noise when i press the brake pedal,i didn't think it to be nothing, but it felt like a stuggle to stop and the noise get worst it feels like the cables of the brake line are to tight and evertime i step on the brakes it makes a creeking sound, a few day ago i took the car in to have the noise check i found out that it was the brake booster and master cylinder and was told it was no need to have it fix because the noise would only come back and that the estimated cost to repair was around $1345.99. i contact the ford corp., by e-mail and recieved a reponse and was told that there was no recall or warrant on this part in other words they could not help. i hope that you can help because i'm afraid of the safety for others and my family. thank you *tr

When vehicle is in drive or reverse and there is a load on the engine (a/c on high) and you turn the steering wheel, the engine accelerates on its own. this happens every time i go to turn at a low rate of speed, in drive or reverse. the garage said it was the throttle body that needed replaced. they also told me this was a common problem and the part was on back order. *tr

Monday, june 28th my vehicle seemed to slightly accelerate when i was backing it into a parking spot. then about a week later (july 06th), i was stopped in a line of other vehicles, and the same thing happened where it would accelerate, only this time, it happened approximately 5 times consistently. my vehicle¿s check engine light appeared with a message that read, "fail safe engine mode". the next day, i immediately took it in to a ford dealer to have it inspected. they said that this is frequent issue with the throttle body and it's unsafe to drive with these conditions. they also mentioned that they have seen a case where a customer's throttle was wide open and accelerated uncontrollably and is shocked that it hasn't been recalled yet. he suggested it not leave the lot until the repairs were done. we left it at the dealership to get repaired, but took his advice. we believe this a default in the manufacturing of the throttle body, and causing unsafe driving conditions. we hope this will get investigated, so no one is injured. *tr

My 2005 ford five hundred has been a very dependable vehicle, except when the compressor went out. after doing much research, it seems that i am not the only one with this issue. ford should do the right thing and repair the compressors on the ford five hundreds because it is a very high safety concern. i have had to drive around with no air because i cannot afford the repair on top of the monthly payments for the car. if i had known that there was an issue with the compressor going out, and a $1200 bill to ensue, i would have reconsidered buying this vehicle. all the ford five hundred drivers, including me, need help on this across the board repair. it is obviously a manufacturing error and should be made right by ford. *tr

Ford five hundred lunged dramatically as i attempted to make a right turn from a stopped position. i immediately attempted to brake in order to slow the car down and yield to a pedestrian that had begun to cross the street. it took an extreme amount of pressure on the brake pedal in order to fight engine's acceleration and stop the car. upon removing my foot from the brake, the car attempted to re-accelerate hard again, scaring the pedestrian enough that they waved me through and refused to cross until i passed by. the next day, while parking the car in a public garage, the car suddenly lurched forward very hard, again requiring maximum effort to prevent accelerating. this time i was headed into a concrete wall and stopped 2 inches short. for the first time, car entered failsafe mode and presented a check engine light (this light had not been previously presented). dealer informs me computer reports codes of p610b and p2106. they want to replace the throttle body assembly and reprogram the pcm. while i had experienced the sudden acceleration issue intermittently over the years; i never got resolution (unable to recreate the problem) and had never received a check engine light with this code before. investigating this very expensive repair has led me to discover that my experience is not unique and is a recurring issue for this vehicle. further, the costly repair being recommended appears to be a stop-gap fix at best with no certainty of actually fixing the problem. *tr

I am buying a 2005 ford 500 limited with an 6 spd transmission it now has 136k miles on it. it has been a problem ever since i purchased the vehicle used from crossroads ford in memphis. i had to have the engine replaced at 54k miles. now the transmission/transaxle is starting to slip and stall in traffic. you start to move from a traffic light and it will go slowly then jump to about 4k to 6k on the tachometer and at that point the car stalls and you are about to be rear ended by other drivers due to the car stalling. according to ford they have known of this problem but only offer selling you a new transmission which they should be responsible for since they built the product even if the factory warranty is gone. cant afford to buy another car or trade this one in or get the transmission fixed according to ford the replacement is around $4600. don't have that kind of money lying around. *tr

Driving our ford five hundred 2005 sel at 30 miles per hour my wife and felt a sudden crack on the drivers right rear side. i stopped the car and saw that the position of the tire was not adequate and suspected a damper situation, not so. luckily we were 5 blocks away of a friendly ford dealer, we drove with painfully squeaking tire there and when inspected the rear cross member had a crack where the welding of the adjusting camber caster is. we thanked the lord we were not on the highway as it would have been certain death. i know this is a structural failure as is the whole rear cross member part and believe is sufficient for a recall of all ford five hundred ford the car has only 55,000 miles an is a 2005 sel model. *tr

In 2009 i took my ford 500 to sutton ford in the auto mall in matteson, il because i was having an acceleration issue. the ac light and board light was on. they call me and i paid the bill for almost $800.00, they told me that they had repaired the problem and gave me the car back. i returned the car to them the next day because the ac light came back on and the acceleration problem still existed. they replaced a few parts and returned the car to me after a few day. well the problem was not corrected and they insisted that there was not an acceleration issue with my car and would not work on it any more. well we have deal with this issue for almost a year later when on last night, may 25, 2010, my husband and i along with my grandson was sitting in the drive through at mcdonalds when we proceeded to have an extreme sudden acceleration. it really scared me and my husband. to our surprise the problem exist. it wanted to jet off at the stop sign and while shifting from park to drive and while backing up. i'm returning the car on tomorrow to sutton ford who was to do the first repair. there is a serious problem with my car and i need to get to the bottom of it before a serious incident occur. *tr

I was driving my vehicle on a city road doing 30mph when the car made a horrible exploding sound. after that point the car was making numerous grinding noises and would not accelerate. i stopped and had the car towed. the dealer told me it was electronic and wanted $1800 to fix it, but would not guarantee that it would fix the car. i got a second opinion and they showed me the inside of the transmission which was in shrapnel sized pieces. the damage was obviously not electronic. the vehicle is out of warranty by time but only has 33k miles on it. i am 70+ years old and have never driven the vehicle in any way that could cause this type of damage. i have spoken to several dealers and to ford customer service and no one will help me. the repair is over $6000 and i have no guarantees that it will not happen again. there is an obvious massive mechanical defect in the vehicle that needs to be investigated. i have seen numerous complaints on this transmission yet ford does not seem to acknowledge the problem even after saturn had the same problems on a similar transmission. *tr

I have been trying to work with ford ref # 366023289, and korum ford in puyallup for a "water intrusion" problem on our ford five hundred. after investigating this problem i see thousands of people with the same problem. i have kept good records of these emails and have a bill from korum. if you search for the problem it is everywhere, and people are suffering financially dealing with it because ford is not holding up their end. there is one recall on "door latches" leading to some of the water intrusion, but it is so horrible for the ones like us who have puddles of water in the driver's side and water in the doors sloshing around. korum supposedly fixed the problem, then charged us for the fix because our extended warranty has ran out, although we've complained many times while it was still a good warranty. please check the "ford forum", and please tell the people paying out of pocket that all of us are having trouble with this issue. my husband is not feeling well so i'm afraid there can be mold/mildew under the wet carpet causing health problems. *tr

When the car is very warm (start after a short time of being parked or 100+ degree day), when the transmission is shifted into drive or reverse, the engine revs to 1,500 rpm and the transmission engages making the car lurch forward, then stalls occasionally. the service indicator (wrench) light comes on and the engine operates in fail-safe mode. if this happens, then the car lurches when you let of the throttle (transmission "clunks"). turn the car off and let it sit until it cools and the service light turns off and the car drives normal again. it's a cvt transmission. *tr

2005 ford 500 rear brake problem. at 42,469 miles a grinding noise came from the rear of the car. both rear rotors and pads were damaged and needed to be replaced. the front brakes were not worn. ford does not pay to correct this which is evidently a design problem. *tr

Hi i'm from mexico and i got a problem with my ford five hundred 2005 transmission which i have read a lot of consumers also got, in fact i was on my way to the job (in the chaotic city of mexico) when suddenly it began to jerk and then the car got no traction, i cant accelerate neither sustain velocity, fortunately the car that was behind me realize of my problem and aware the traffic to de-accelerate, after that i stop the car and see that it was spilling oil from the transmission. i turn it off and restart the engine but the car still does not move by itself so i wait for the wrecking crane to take the car with the dealer. what impressed me is that the car only got 25,000 miles and it was spilling oil. the told me that the transmission must be changed, but my warranty run out on january and the change of will have a cost of 10,000 us dollars. i'm writing to you to check with ford this problems cause the lose the lose control of the engine and the jerk spilling oil will probably have caused an accident. *tr

I would like to see the investigation reopened for nhtsa action number : pe07058 and a recall by the ford motor company due to the failure of the electrical system:instrument panel on the 2005 ford five hundred. while driving my 2005 ford five hundred the oil pressure light and brake light illuminated. at the same time this occurred the radio volume would decrease as if i was coming to a stop, the turn signals would fail (just the indication on the instrument cluster), and most importantly the reverse lights would illuminate. this would last from a few seconds to several minutes at a time. on the way to the dealership, i was pulled over by the police and given a verbal warning in regards to my reverse lights being illuminated while driving. the police assumed my brake lights were inoperative(blown bulb/broke lenses) as my reverse lights were illuminated causing an unsafe condition. the vehicle is at the ford dealer now, the dealer did supply me with another car until mine was repaired as they deemed the car unsafe to drive in this condition. the dealer has ordered the entire instrument cluster for replacement. the dealer also stated that i will be looking at a $100-200 dollar deductible as this is not directly covered on the warranty. this needs to be addressed before an accident/death occurs as a result of this known existing problem. *tr

For the past month or so my ford five hundred (2005 @ 64,000 texas hwy miles) has been shifting hard and changing gears erratically, while making clunking noises. we took it to our repair shop and they were mystified so they sent it to their transmission specialty shop. it turns out that they have another five hundred in the shop getting its transmission replaced because of the same problems. we just had the transmission flushed and oil changed but that did not help. the transmission shop contacted the ford dealer service center and they gave them the codes to ¿flash¿ the newest codes into the transmission & throttle computers. no change. they tested new transmission modules with no change. so now they say they have to change out the transmission @ $4,300. this is not good! the transmission specialist says this is the 4th five hundred he has had this problem with and that they cannot get parts to repair the transmission so they have no other option but to replace it. i contacted my ford dealer and they also say they cannot get parts for the transmission. tomorrow i am going to the big guys at ford and get an answer from them about what is going on. *tr

I have a ford five hundred limited. the car has stop running while the car is in gear and moving. it also stopped when i started to drive from a stop light. while it was being fixed at the car dealership it stop (died) on them several times. the ford dealer company thought it was the power steering pump because the power steering pump was making a knocking sound. they also noticed that if they was to turn the wheel it would usually die on them. the dealership has replaced the battery, powersteering pump, belt and the throttle and the car still dies. my understanding from them is that they have never come across this problem before. what made me take the car in to begin with was that i went to start the car after playing tennis for about 45 minutes and it wouldn't start. the battery was somewhat dead and the security light was flashing rapidly. *tr

Engine began to lose power while driving in the city(surging). check engine light came on. just before getting home the engine backfired through the tailpipe(twice) the car stalled and had to be towed to the dealer. upon investigation it was found that the engine had blown up. an exhaust valve head and the remains of the piston were found in the oil pan. a new 3 litre duratech engine is going to be ordered under warranty to replace the broken one. *tr

I purchased a 2005 ford five hundred used last 2/07; on 3/4/08 my instrument panel went out completely while driving. no gauges, lights, nothing. i took it to my ford dealer 3/5/08 who looked at it, after 3 hours returned it to me saying i needed a new instrument panel, but they had to order one and said to come back when they had it. the panel worked, so i wondered what was up; however after a few days, the gauges would quit momentarily before working again periodically. i have yet to hear from ford about my part, also, they say i have to pay for it. this is not normal wear and tear and obviously a defect, i've owned 5 cars in my life and never had an instrument panel replaced ever. i've owned vehicles for 10 years. i shouldn't have to pay for a factory defect which is a safety hazard. i have yet to get the part replaced, as they don't seem to have one yet. so i risk my safety every time i drive. *tr

I would like a safety recall issued for the ford 500, the instrument panel has a defect causing all of the needles and controls to malfunction leaving the driver with no speedometer, gas gauge or temperature gauge, ford is aware there is a problem and has issued a technical service bulletin to the dealers, however, with no recall you will be charged for the replacement of the panel and this may keep some people from having them replaced, i was charged a $100 deductible for this repair and in all fairness it should have been covered by a ford recall since they are aware of the problem and has the potential to be a serious safety issue!! *tr

Tl*the contact's client owns a 2005 ford five hundred. while the client was driving 35 mph, she removed her foot from the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. she attempted to apply the brakes, but the speed continued to increase. the client also applied the emergency brake and encountered a pickup truck traveling in the same direction. she crossed over the double-yellow line on a 2-lane road and passed the pickup truck. the driver of the pickup informed police that he noticed brakes being applied, smelled, and saw blue smoke coming from the vehicle. the vehicle continued accelerating. the air bags deployed. the client then side swiped a guardrail for approximately 40 feet. the front tire blew out and the vehicle was pushed across the roadway. a police report was filed. two passengers sustained injuries. the front end of the vehicle struck an embankment on the other side of the road. the vehicle became airborne for approximately 70 feet and landed on its side. at that time, only the driver's side air bag deployed. the vehicle rolled over twice and landed at a recently planted flower bed. the driver seat belt disengaged as well. part of the crash was caught on tape by a pennsylvania dot surveillance camera. the current and failure mileages were 22,000. updated 04/29/08. *lj

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled on the highway. the contact was able to pull off the road. on july 11, 2007, the dealer performed a diagnostic test. the vehicle was returned one week later. the failure recurred on july 17, august 31, september 25, october 3, november 2, and december 18. the dealer did not return the vehicle until february 23,2008. the dealer was able to duplicate the failure once the vehicle was returned. the contact experienced the failure again and the dealer picked up the vehicle on march 20, 2008. the dealer replaced the instrument panel. the failure and current mileages were approximately 31,058.

Was driving in town on tuesday morning and my ford 500 (2005) shut down and the message failsafe engine mode came on along with a wrench. this could have been potentially dangerous, i was fortunate that this occurrence happened when there was not a lot of traffic on the road. car is now immovable and waiting to be towed in to dealership. *tr

I purchased my first ford product in the spring of 2007. in december the driver side door would not close. there was a tsb dated 06-25-04 for which service was claimed to have been performed. on february 11, 2008 again the driver door would not latch. i had to drive it up to family ford in waterbury, holding the door closed. all they did on that day was spray some sort of lubricant in the door latch. today, february 28th at 5:30 am while taking a right turn on my way into work, the door flew open. it had not latched. i had to slam the door five times to get it to latch closed. this is now the third incident with this door. i feel this now falls into the lemon law category. family ford just wants to spray lubricant and try to blame damp weather. i have always owned gm vehicles and never have i had this type of problem. this is a safety issue. *tr

Purchased my 500 9/05 it only had 5 miles on it. 6 months later loud explosion in engine which began to leak some sort of fluid got the car towed to dealer purchased was told a/c leaking oil and they had to replace the manifold i wasn't even using the a/c was march!!! my dash console had to be replaced since it was defective and the computer also had to be reprogrammed since the car wouldn't start in 30 degree weather this happened in jan06......my fuel straps were replaced due to recall and my door locks were replaced due to recall and i had 22k miles when the back brakes began making a terrible grinding noise when backing up took to dealer said that although car is under warranty brakes are under wear and tear and would not be covered now which didn't make any sense since the front brakes were good how could back brakes go bad before front brakes unless you only drive your car in reverse????? i paid the $400 to fix since was informed 500 rotors cant be turned ever will always have to purchase new ones......then 6 months later brakes were recalled and i did request refund which i did receive. however i now have 44k no longer have warranty since expired and i didn't buy extended warranty brought car in to ford since transmission light was turning on and off along with the traction control light then had trans censor replaced was told that was problem then 2 days later light still turning on and car will not reverse took into dealer again was told trans axle broke in half and need new trans which costs $5300 car is only work 9k!!!! ford company said they will offer assistance only of 3k since out of warranty they also informed me that had i purchased the extended warranty i would only be paying $100 nothing like throwing that in your face. i have no choice but to pay it need a car and am a single parent of 2. also back doors trim is coming apart passenger since is completely rotted out. *tr

I own a 2005 ford five hundred. when i took the car for oil change maintenance on 11/25 and to have the tires rotated and aligned, the mechanic said the rear brakes on the vehicle were 95% worn, and should be replaced in short order. this is unusual since the vehicle is front wheel drive and only had 21,300 miles. the mechanic at the dealer stated that they were receiving several complaints regarding the brakes for that make of vehicle. *tr

Driving at approximately 40-45 miles per hour a loud noise emanated from the bottom of the car, engine rpms raced from 1500 to 4500, a clattering noise followed sounding like a metal spoon dropped into a running garbage disposal, car dramatically slowed complete loss of acceleration control, steering control uncertain as car wandered. no unusual events occurred prior to this incident, its occurrence came without warning and was totally unexpected. event occurred on two lane rural road,vehicles following and oncoming had to take evasive action but no collision occurred. passengers stranded. vehicle towed to dealership. right axle shaft broken in half. right axle carrier bearing broken transmission and splines damaged. old parts are available. axle shaft and carrier bearing were replaced and transmission splines filed down. *tr

2005 ford five hundred rear brakes worn at 14,000 miles. scrapping sounds were coming from the rear of vehicle, taken to dealer, told 15 days to get parts. 1 month later went to dealer, told parts available feb 2008, told to repair vehicle on my own and would be reimbursed. called ford, told to go ahead. found parts and had vehicle repaired (new pads and rotors - $192.00), later in the afternoon dealer calls, parts have magically appeared, dealer told car is repaired. both ford and dealer refuse to reimburse. this seems to be a problem with the vehicle and ford will not own up to it. the rear wheels up to the time of scrapping sounds showed excessive brake dust vs the front which showed almost no dust. both ford and the dealership dismissed the reimbursement saying repair was offered, where were the parts that just appeared out of thin air when the were supposed to be received in feb 2008? this is a safety issue that ford is ignoring. guess i will never buy a ford again if this is the way they treat a customer. *tr

Ford five hundred '05 brakes applied in heavy braking situation on highway and the fuel cut-off mechanism activated. car would not restart, had to be towed into dealership. dealer reported that the wiring for the cut-off switch, by the front passenger foot area had come lose. re-set of mechanism not possible, had to have the wiring re-done and re-configured by the dealer service area. this is a definite design flaw and should be investigated as it could occur when car is operating at highway speeds if it is exposed to passenger foot bump. *tr

Car randomly stalls. on occasions when the accelerator is depressed the car does not move it stutters, i even tried to depress the gas pedal to the floor and still nothing. i have taken my car to the local ford dealer for service. the only thing that i was told "the computer chip in the transmission needed updated." ok this hasn't corrected my problem. i am afraid that this could cause me to get into an accident. i have two small children, i hope that they are not in the car when it happens. i am assumely that the reason this hasn't been recalled yet, is because ford doesn't have a repair for this. besides the obvious, replacing the transmission. please look into this. you may need to drive one, i will let you use mine. just so this gets taken care of. *tr

I was driving my 2005 ford five hundred to work and the "fail safe mode" message came on and the wrench lit up. the engine starts to die and the car starts lurching forward. i pulled over, shut the car off. when i started it back up, it ran fine. i called the dealer who said they would need to have me bring the car in so they can look into it. ford has no bulletins on this - this should be a recall. as i research online, this has happened to many ford vehicles, not just the five hundred. *tr

The 2005 ford five hundred had just under 30000 miles on it and for the last 5000 miles the dashboard had been acting up to the point that it did it almost every time we used it. symptoms: aib ag light went on and dash lights went off, the 4 gauges in the instrument cluster went to zero, digital display went out and some times reset gals used & miles traveled, directionals went out when dash lightswent out.*ak

The ford five hundred had rear brake pad and rotor failures after only 22,137 miles. this required replacing the pads and rotors at my expense. my last car required new brakes at 53,000 miles. in addition only the rear brakes were warn out. the front pads were still okay. in my opinion this was clearly either a design failure or a materials failure. i contacted ford, and was told that brakes were a wear item, and they will do nothing. from the number of cases of this type failure on the ford five hundred and the mercury montego, on this web site i would think an investigation would be started. *ak

I purchased a 2005 ford 500 new in september 2005. on april 17, 2007, 20 months i took it to the ford dealer for a routine oil change and the 16,000 mile check up and i was told it needed new rear brakes. there was absolutely no reason why rear brakes should be required since i drive very little, and i took extremely good car of the vehicles. i own two other cars. this appeared to be a manufacturing or an engineering flaw. i was surprised on how quickly the ford dealer knew to look at the brakes for problems. they must be doing this on a regular basis. i called ford, and they said that the warranty on the brakes was only for 12 months, very convenient. nhtsa should start an investigation giving the number of complaints on this problem.ak

Ford recall no. 06s45 did not fix the problem. our ford five hundred drivers door failed to latch the day after a trip through the car wash in below freezing weather. my wife tried to latch the door many times and locked and unlocked it several times. it finally latched. the local dealer looked at it and lubed it (again). the technician stated that this was not the first one he had seen. *jb

Driving my 2005 ford 500 with 36, 216 miles to work in a.m. on 1/22/07, suddenly experienced car going from side to side while driving on highway. hard to control, had to greatly reduce speed to keep control of vehicle. upon accelerating, felt as if i was having to pull the vehicle down the road. took immediately to ford dealership and was told that the sway bar in the rear was bad. service told me that this was very unusual and advised me to contact ford directly. phoned ford and was told that they would have to research the sway bar problem more and would contact me within 2-3 business days. currently waiting on parts for repair, as dealership does not keep them in stock due to this being a very rare occurrence. service feels that factory sway bar must have been defective. *jb

Took my 2005 ford five hundred in for an oil change and tire rotation (17k miles), 12 months old. was called by the ford dealer service manger and told i needed rear brake pads asap!. i question how a car that has only been owned for 12 months need brakes (and only rear ones!). told ford knows of the problem and resigned the pads, but i would have to pay $250 for the brake job (i declined). multiple contacts (via email) to ford hqts. have been a waste of time. no response to the problem, no attempt to resolve the issue. *nm

Tl* - the contact has a 2005 ford 500 with an odometer reading of 34900 miles and his rear break pads have worn out. the contact heard a grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and found that his rear break pads are grinding into the rotors, but his front break pads are less than half way warn. the contact stated that there is service bulletin (06-22-17) from ford which states that defective materials used on the rear break pads. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer (webster dudley lincoln mercury) and they stated that he was not covered by ford and he would have to pay for the repair. the contact also called ford and stated that it is a wear item and is no longer covered. *nm

Received a recall notice from ford moco. took the wifes vehicle into the dealership for repairs, the technician called and said the car was repaired and we took the vehicle home. i took the vehicle to work that evening and when i got off work my freind and i that rides to work with me noticed thast the door still wasn't shutting properly. i slammed the door 3 or4 times and thought it had latched as the dome light went out. i dropped my freind off at his home and was heading to a nearby convenience store when the door popped open. i was startled and was trying to close the door, while i was distracted with the door i went off the road and struck a power pole and chain link fence. i refused an ambulance ride to the hospital but had to go later with nech pain.

Upon starting car and a few minutes after driving the car, the car starts to spit and sputter and totally shuts down. this has happened at least 8 times in the past 4 months and has left me to swerve on the highway before it shuts completely down so i am not in a dangerous situation (completely stopped in the middle of flowing traffic). the message "engine fail safe mode" comes on. we have had car to the dealer numerous times and they cannot find anything wrong. problem has not been fixed and car continues to stop. *jb

I purchased a 2005 ford five hundred in july 2005. i had noticed immediately that a large amount of black brake dust accumulated on the rear wheels. this vehicle is driven 80 to 90 percent of the time on the highway with minimal braking. at 6000 miles i noticed a grinding noise coming from the rear wheels. i took the vehicle to the dealer where i purchased the car and they told me that the rear brake pads had worn out and ruined the rotors. they replaced the rotors and brakes on warranty. at 32,000 miles during a routine maintenance the shop mechanic told me that the rear brakes were gone. i returned the vehicle to the dealer where i had purchased the car and had completed the last brake replacement and asked them if premature rear brake wear was a problem with the 500 hundred. they did not respond. i asked them if they thought it unusual for the brakes to wear out twice in 32,000 miles? i told them that all of my other vehicles which wear/are driven in similar conditions usually do not need a brake replacement until they are at 80,000 miles or more? they told me that it all depends on the my driving habits. i do not drive any differently now that i have over the past 25 years. they told me on this second visit for a brake problem that they would have to charge me to inspect the brakes and if they did not find a mechanical problem, i would have to pay for the repairs. they came back to me and said that the rear calipers were sticking. i don't believe that was the problem. the rear rotors and pads were replace again. for some reason twice now the rear brakes are failing long before the front brake pads have event 25% of their wear gone. it appears that the rear brakes are doing most of the braking and the front are doing little. this may cause a safety problem . *jb

Purchased 2005 ford 500 new on oct 11, 2005. at first oil change 3000 miles on jan 10, 2006 i reported vibration and popping on right front of car. they replaced upper strut mounts/bearings. vibration continued. on march 7, 2006 a tire specialist stated tires were showing light chopping on the outer edges and the right front tire had it. march 8, 2006 returned to dealership reported the vibration again-nothing done. tires checked. may 30, 2006 reported vibration. did road force balance . vibration continued. aug 8, 2006 told the mgr about the vibration again. week of oct 9 the mgr said nothing more could be done. mgr said his service rep would not be back for 2-3 months. i asked the manager if i could contact his service rep and he said no. oct 19, 2006 called bill mccort, took car to the garage again. test drove with bill mccort, joe essex, tech, my husband, and myself. tech confirmed the vibration. car left at dealership.. scott vasko, asst. service mgr. called and told us all readings were within specs. said they did four hook-ups for testing. still vibrating. oct 19, 2006 bill mccort authorized the continental tires be replaced by new michelin tires. still vibrating after new tires were put on. oct 20, 2006 met phyllis stoves and, owner of dealership. she drove my car and felt vibration. oct 21, 2006 stoves and, my husband , and myself drove two 2007 ford five hundreds. they had the same vibration. stoves said she would e-mail an engineer and will contact us week after next stoves called me and asked me to bring the car to the dealership because an engineer was coming to look at my car. i was not allowed to see or talk to the engineer. stoves said customers are not allowed to meet with or talk to the engineer. later stoves called and told me she and the engineer drove my car and it drove wonderfully. vibration continues. i once again reported jan 4, 2007. *jb

Vibration on right front of car during speeds of 55 mph to 62 mp. replaced continental tires with michelin and vibration still occurs. *jb

Tl* - the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. the contact stated when the vehicle was parked for an extended period the brake pads fail when restarting the vehicle. the vehicle had been parked for eleven days when the incident occurred. the contact was driving 65 mph and could hear the sound of metal grinding on metal when attempting to apply the brakes, it was also very difficult to stop the vehicle. ford agrees that the incident occurred due to premature wear on the vehicle. the dealer stated the contact was liable for the repair cost. the contact maintained thiswas not a wear issue instead itwas a safety/failure issue. ford refused to reimburse the contact, but advised the contact it was unsafe to drive the vehicle. ford redesigned the brake pads due to this incident. ford stated rust appears on the brake pads after being parked for an extended time. the contact's vehicle was inspected prior to the incident and there was no evidence of brake problems at the time. the contact referenced ford bulletin # 06-22-17. *ak

While conducting a weekly inspection and pressure check of my tires, (continental contitouring contact as p215/60r17) a split measuring approximately 2" in length was observed in the sidewall of one tire. the split does not appear to be caused by any road damage or other external force. there is no air leakage associated with the split. the car has been taken out of service and new tires have been ordered to replace this set. *jb

Tl* - the contact stated that the car accelerates unexpectedly. the contact stated that once she starts the car and drives a short distance at 10 mph and comes to a complete stop the car will then accelerate unexpectedly. she has taken the car to the dealer (freemont ford) a dozen times and they have not been able to find a problem. the contact said that the car is still at the dealer.

I purchased a 2005 ford 500 new in july 2005. i had it serviced by the book at my dealership. on nov 14,2006 i took it in for a routine oil change and the 22,000 mile check up. i was told it needed new rear brakes and "rotors". since 75% of these miles are all highway miles (very little braking), there is absolutely no reason why rear brakes should be required....and certainly no excuse for the rotors needing replaced. since i take extremely good car of my vehicles, including washing it by hand, i have noticed since i bought it that the rear wheels are always black with brake dust. the front wheels are typically clean. that must mean the rear wheels are doing most of the work. this is without a doubt an engineering issue. also, having visited the nhtsa website, it is littered with complaints from other ford 500 owners experiencing the exact same problem. and via their reports, a denial by ford that there is not problem. (wonder why they are on the ropes as a car maker???) i "chatted with the service advisor to no avail. i plan on going higher....wish me luck. on the other hand, i present to between 15 and 20 thousand individuals each year across the country talking about integrity and customer service. ford is about to learn the true meaning of the term "customer terrorist". i can assure them that i will get my money's worth a couple of hundred times over. maybe you should wish them luck...they are going to need it. *nm

Subject: excessive rear brake wear on 2005 ford five hundred. new car was purchased from local ford dealership on april 17, 2005. rear brake pads were replaced and rotors turned by ford dealership on april 13, 2006 at 29,976 miles. ford dealership replaced the rear brake pads and rotors on nov. 17, 2006 at 46,691 miles. why did the ford factory rear brake pads/rotors get 29,976 miles and ford dealership installed rear brake pad/rotors get only 16,715 miles? pads front: ford factory installed still on car with 46,691 miles: left front: outside 6mm thick inside 8mm thick right front: outside 6 mm thick inside 8 mm thick pads rear: ford dealership installed new 0 miles left rear: outside 8 mm thick inside 10 mm thick right rear: outside 8mm thick inside 10 mm thick ford recommended replacement of brake pads is less than 3 mm. the front pads are 6 inches long and the rear pads are only 2 inches long. why are the rear pads only 1/3 the size of the front pads? the rear wheel rims are always black with excessive brake dust. the front wheel rims have very little brake dust. the rear wheels when jacked up and spun by hand seem to drag on the pads/rotors. other cars i have will spin by hand 8 to 10 seconds. the ford 500 will spin only 3 seconds. is it possible the emergency brakes are the problem for this drag and wear? the ford dealer is helpful, but ford warranty is only 18,000 miles/12 months on factory installed brakes, and 12,000/12 months on ford dealership installed brakes. i have filed a complaint with the ford motor co. customer relationship center. their answer was that there are no brake problems. ford dealership checked with the ford factory tech and again no brake problems. nhtsa web site has 11 complaints like mine. how can ford corp and the ford dealership tell me there are no rear brake problems with my 2005 ford five hundred. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while attempting to put the vehicle in reverse, the rear rotors made a grinding noise with no prior warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, who replaced the rotors due to brake pad damage. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer who stated there was a service bulletin advisory in regards to this matter # 10014650 about the service brakes, hydraulic. the vehicle was on its third set of brake pads.

The electrical system through out the car is being heard in the speakers. if the seats, window, etc., etc. are touched you can hear them through the back end with a loud roaring noise. it is so loud that you can not keep the radio on. it only reacts when it is extremely hot, extremely cold or after the car has been washed or it rains. we have taken this to the dealer where the amp, radio, cd player and speakers have all been replaced 3 times. they have even eliminated water leak which only leaves wiring issues in which they refuse to replace. our fear is that it could cause fire. we have arbitrated and contacted corporate and they refuse to do anything about it. we even took this to another ford dealer in which they told us after showing them all the work orders that they will not get involved since it is a pre-existing issue that another dealer has tried to resolve many, many times. just be cautious and place your vehicle inside away from these conditions so it doesn't act up and cause more issues. *nm

Purchased ford five hundred in february 2006, an sel automatic. around 15,000 miles began noticing transmission issues, mostly hesitation when shifting into gear. first major incident occurred oct. 22, 2006 while traveling at 65 miles per hour on the freeway, engine revved while pressing the gas pedal but vehicle slowed as if it was in neutral. then it punched violently and resumed driving normally. we pulled over thinking something major was wrong with the vehicle. we began our journey again and had several incidents of minor punching of the transmission, like it was slipping out of gear and going back in again. after we returned home, these problems were very intermittent. about 2 weeks later while driving on the freeway, the vehicle slipped out of gear and almost came to a complete stop before re-engaging. we brought it to the ford dealer the second week in november. they said they could not duplicate the issue, however they said there was a computer technician log that suggested a reset. they reset the computer, changed the oil, checked the transmission fluid, etc. a few days later the transmission was back to slipping intermittently. on november 20, 2006, the severe punching began again, so bad this time the vehicle almost came to a complete stop. we had to shift the gear into 2nd before it engaged and we were able to accelerate. since we were on vacation, we had to continue on our trip with the transmission slipping in and out of gear. when we returned from our trip, back to the ford dealer we went. we took the transmission technician guy for a test drive and luckily we were able to duplicate the problem. he was amazed, hadn't seen anything like it before. he talked to other transmission tech's who were stumped by the problem, too. he ended up calling ford headquarters and spoke with the engineers. they decided a complete replacement of the transmission was in order because they weren't sure what was causing the problem. *jb

I took my 2005 ford 500 with 18,000 miles to the dealer for a noise in the back of the car and after replacing the strut under warranty to take care of the noise, i was told that the car needed new rear brakes and rotors. there is absolutely no reason why rear brakes should be required and certainly no excuse for the rotors needed to be replaced when the vehicle only have 18,000 miles and the front brakes are fine. it is clear that this vehicle has a design problem since the rear brake wheels are doing most of the work. this is a serious safety issue that needs to be address by ford and nhtsa. *jb

2005 fore five hundred- the following problems have occurred; 1)four times the check transmission light has come on , and car then was unable to drive faster than 40 mph. each time car was brought to the dealership for repairs, including replacing modules and the trans axle pan. currently the car at the dealership for this problem. 2) on two separate occasions driver's side front window would go to the down position when the button was pressed for the up position. the window motor and harness were replaced after the first incident. currently at dealership for this problem also. *nm

Continental tires (215/60/17), chunks of the tire are coming off. contacted manufacturer about issue, did not seem to be concerned about the issue (jose). ford also was contacted about the issue and they too did not seem concerned, however both parties acknowledge that there is something wrong with the tires. a common question of both was, do i drive on gravel roads. i told them i did not, however ford dealer said that there was shell and small gravel on underside of car. there have been roads replace in the area that i have driven on. bottom line. i now have concerns about the tire safety on my car and both ford and continental will replace them for a cost, but both refuse to acknowledge a tire "issue" at this time. will someone have to die before something is done. i at one time owned a ford explorer and went though those "issues". have there been any other complaints about the tires on the ford 500 or continental tires? could someone look into this issue and assist me. thank you for your assistance. *jb

Brand new 2005 ford 500 purchased on september 24 2005 began at 15000 miles with brake problems. same problem occurred at 30,000 miles. my job is 100% sales and my car is my only revenue provider. at 35,000 car showing problems when hitting the gas, it would not run. at 39,000 miles an electric short circuit. at 39,000 i asked the dealer to recheck the whole car that it was showing transmission and brake problems. at 43,000 miles now is sitting in the ford dealer where i purchased at since last friday sept 22,2006. the ford dealer mechanical director was inside the car and me test driving it, and could not believe the problems with the transmission. his words were' if this was my car i would not be sitting in it, it's a risk to anyone's life" today, ford informed me that they have to bring the transmission down and open it. they ask me every time to sign in acceptance they will pay for everything. it is being reported to consumer affairs department tomorrow, i have notified the bank who gave me the loan. this does not include all the car rental expenditures i've had to incur in addition to constant repairs prior to car reaching 1 year. *jb

2005 ford 500 robin marshall ford motor company executive offices form letter states that fords "review indicates that the previous decision provided by ford motor company is appropriate" dated oct 3 2006 as i was watching cnn news about recall 06v383000 and ford # 06s45 of sept 28 2006. purchased march 28 2005 and as previously reported numerous suspension and braking problems. odi id number : 10123895 - odi id number : 10135289 and numerous communications with ford they finally had dave munn ford rep have the car towed to omeara ford for an inspection. the vehicle has been sitting for 15 months with a colorado affidavit of non use for safety related issues, after omeara ford ground down the rear rotors to within 1/1000 of minimum and braking issues continued . i had a heart attack and 5 way bypass and cannot take the stress this vehicle has put me under. i consider the car unsafe to drive. fords inspection was a sham, as omeara ford's service ticket indicates no mileage in and 5000 miles out but the car has 4190 miles on it today. the service ticket indicates no-trouble found plus the rotors were still rusty when the car arrived back at my residence. even braking and straight tracking on the road with this car has always been an issue. *jb

Rear and front suspension have failed within five months of possession. first repair attempt on rear suspension occurred in may 2006, just 4 weeks after purchasing the 2005 model. ford certified technicians claimed there was a loose bracket and that problem was solved but problem with noise and hard bounce still occurred. second repair attempt occurred one month later, found broken right, rear shock. repair took three days. four days later had to return to get front end aligned. on september 9, 2006, took back again for same noise coming from right rear shock. certified technicians stated that there was not fix for problem and simply greased cables. taking back to shop to address front suspension noise and handling problem. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 mph on the interstate, the right rear tire blew out without warning. there were no obvious road hazards. complete tread separation was present. the contact managed to pull over without incident. the tire was removed and taken to the dealer who determined there was a pinhole in the tire that possibly caused the initial blowout. the tire was shipped to the manufacturer for further inspection. the tire was a pirelli p225/55r18, dot # n9wnf7. updated 10/31/2006 - pirelli replaced all four tires under the condition that all four tires be sent to them. *nm

I have had my rear brakes on my ford 500 changed twice. vehicle had 53,000 miles on when second brake job was done. dealership stated "they are see the rear brakes go about every 20,000 miles. heavy brake dust and heat around brakes are also a concern. *nm

I have a 2005 ford fivehundred that is equiped with continental contact touring tires. according to continental's website, these tires should last for sixty thousand miles. currently my vehicle has 15,000 miles on it and two of the tires are completely worn out. i have been advised by my dealer that it is not safe to drive the vehicle. continental states that ford should warranty the tires. ford states continental should warranty the tires. tires that wear out this quickly must be defective. this type tire should be investigated further to prevent someone from being in an accident and/or being killed.

On the two occasions that we had snow this past winter, my ford 500 began to surge uncontrollably and the engine failure light came on when accelerating. it became necessary to pull to the side of the road and turn the vehicle ignition off. when i restarted, the trouble light was off and i continued my journey home. within a few minutes the same problem occurred, engine failure light and the surging. needless to say, it took quite awhile to get home. i brought the vehicle to an authorized ford dealer the fist time and they could not find anything wrong. after the second snow storm, and the same symptoms, the dealer said the problem occurred because the filter was installed backwards. somewhat skeptical, i accepted their explanation because of my good relationship with the dealer owner and service manager. while at work the other day, i noticed a co-worker with a similar type vehicle and inquired as to how she liked the ford 500. her response shocked me when she stated that she liked the vehicle, but had trouble this past winter in the snow. she described the same problem that i had experienced and now i wonder how many other 2005 ford 500 owners have experienced the same problems. i am hoping that you will be able to assist me in determine the cause of this problem. *jb

Dash gauges drop to zero while car is running usually for a few seconds, sometimes for several minutes. occasionally the led display also goes out with headlights and turn signals for 10 seconds to 10 minutes while the engine is running perfect. *jb

While driving my 2005 ford five hundred with 18000 miles on it all gauges dropped to zero. the lights went out and air bag failure light came on. i took the vehicle to the dealer who said they needed to order a new dash cluster panel ,after 2 weeks called dealer and was told it would take a month to get part i was told by another mechanic that car was unsafe to drive because of air bag was in failure mode. not once was i told this by dealer. has not been repaired. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60mph on wet pavement and black ice, the vehicle spun and collided with a guardrail. the seat belt did not hold the passenger tightly in the seat, resulting in leg and back neurological injuries. the passenger in the rear seat was also injured during the collision, however the rear seat belt held tightly. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to determine the problem.

I purchased a new 2005 ford 500 in mid 2005. i only have 3600 miles on the vehicle. rear wheels of my vehicle are completely blackened by brake dust that he had . rear rotors were are deeply grooved and should be repaired or replaced. shop foreman at dealership showed a release from the ford engineer division that notified ford dealers that ford was aware of the problem. they are investigating the problem and will use different brake pads in the ....4th quarter of 2006, but were presently considering the problem to be normal and will not allow any warranty work. the shop foreman admitted that he considered the problem to be an engineering issue, was having problems with other new ford vehicles, and was going to call ford engineering about the issue. shop foreman called june 22, 2006 and advised that ford was not considering the problem to be a problem and were not going to back any warranty work. i was advised that the ¿¿owner¿¿s manual" recommends that the wheels be washed at least once a week. a serious problem and the answer is to wash the wheels once a week? son-in-law also determined that after driving several blocks, the front and rear brake rotors were be incredibly hot. he advised me that the excessive heat could cause my brakes to brakes to fail and me or others could be injured, or worse. ** rear brake pads degrading and rear brake rotors need replaced. excessive heat in rear rotors. *nm

2005 ford 500 rear right female half seat belt is difficult to buckle due to poor design. i have complained to ford and was referred to the local dealer who after months of delay referred back to ford who stated that it meets their standards. the belt is too short and flexible. it retracts back into the seat cushion making it difficult to buckle. this condition can and will lead to non use of the belt and can lead to serious injury or death. *jb

My 2005 ford five-hundred. it does have 56,000 miles but almost all are interstate miles. rear passenger brake is scraping badly and even making noise going down the road. i suspect a failed system and the pad's on the rotor all the time. kayser ford in madison tried to sell me entirely new rear brakes for $400. that's ridiculous. i don't ride the brake. why are the front brakes okay and the rears gone already on a 2005??? i suspect a defect. i want it fixed without being gouged. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving from a stop sign, going less than 5 mph, the vehicle stalled suddenly. the vehicle was towed to the dealership where they determined the fuel cutoff inertia switch was bad and needed to be replaced. on 6-14-06 the same problem occurred while in the middle of the road going 5 mph. the vehicle restarted only for a short time allowing the contact to get out of the road. once on the side of the road, it stalled again. the vehicle was towed to the dealership who determined the problem was with the inertia switch; which was partially detached. the dealership put a strap around the switch. on 6-16-06 the dealership was asked to start the vehicle and tap the passenger side floorboard where the inertia switch was located. the vehicle suddenly shut off again. the service dept. manager tested other ford 500s on the lot to see if the same thing occurred and it did. the dealership determined there was no guarantee the same thing would not happen again.

Starting in december we have had numerous starting problems with this car. we have had it back to the dealership five times for this problem and three other times for other warranty problems. when you go to start the car is turns over but will not start or it will start then die. when it acted up we also had a loss of power once it would start the second time it went to dealer for the problem we could not get it stated at all and it had to be towed. after the last repair it now is getting only about 19 miles to the gallon in combined driving. we have asked ford to buy the vehicle back and three times we were told a ford regional rep would call us back to work with us and they never would call us back. we are currently trying to have ford buy the vehicle back or replace it through the bbb dispute replacement but they will not. we have also had problems with the doors and moldings not being aligned correctly and this caused damage when the rear door opened and damaged the doors. also the power windows have malfunctioned twice and needed repair or replacement of the window regulator. we are very disappointed in this vehicle and ford. *nm

Consumer 2005 ford 500 door came open while driving. *ts water leaked into the vehicle from the doors. the dealer replaced both front door latches and new water canels. the dash had a bubble in the leather and the dealer replaced it. the molding was coming off the vehicle. the vehicle would not start on one occasion. *nm

Purchased a new ford five hundred in october of 2005. i was unfortunately involved in an accident, that caused extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle. my concern is that the air bags never deployed. with the amount of damage i would have thought they would have deployed. *jb

Dt: the contact owns a 2005 ford new model 500 that had a light tan interior including the dashboard. due to the interior color there was a reflection from the windshield that was present only in daylight hours. there have been no accidents or injuries, but the contact wished to file a safety complaint at this time. the contact put a black blanket to eliminate the reflection while driving during the day. this was no longer a problem with the contact. the contact contacted ford, and they would not return his calls regarding the matter. *ak

Paint chips due to what i feel is a body flaw. the tires flip small gravel against the flare directly behind the rear car doors. this caused chips in the paint. *jb

While attempting to accelerate, electronic throttle is very slow to respond. in times when needing to accelerate immediately, throttle will not let you. it can be very scary. this is a big safety concern for me. dealer has no solution to the problem. dealer said it is common with other 500's. *jb

Continuation of suspension and brake problems after last filing with nhtsa. braking in wet weather, descending steep grade, car pulls and fades. 2 days after longmont ford had car for 6 days and returned it with clean bill of health. omera ford diagnosed brake and transmission programming problems and once again turned down rear rotors to very close to minimum specifications. consumer report jan 2005 reports similar issues with braking, auto-week may-16-2005 reports brake fade and stability problems in their test track report. this is a first model year car for ford which is based off of a modified volvo design of under-carriage. the vehicle is now parked with an affidavit of non use on it because of the number of incidents and repairs that have occurred on rear suspension and brakes. ford at arbitration maintained that in late july there were more tsb's issued for the 2005 ford 500, but i am unable to find same on nhtsa website. with the number of independent trade and consumer publications that site the same issues that i am having with this car, i petition nhtsa to pull some of these early model cars and subject them to suspension and braking test as stated in nhtsa 99.6583-1 consumer braking information initiative, aberdeen test center fall 1998. *jb

Dt: the contact owns a 2005 ford 500 sel. the vehicle was made with a six speed automatic transmission. when going down hill it has a overdrive in the transmission. when the consumer removed his foot from the accelerator the vehicle began to speed up going down hill and if pressing the brakes for a long distance, the brakes will get hot. manufacturer told him that this was the way the vehicle was designed. the contact felt that there should be some way to turn the overdrive off. he owned other ford vehicles that had the option to turn the overdrive off. *ak *jb

Dt: last sunday the consumer discovered she had a flat tire. when she attempted to start the vehicle, the motor starting racing and making a loud noise like it was revving up. the transmission light came on. the consumer placed the vehicle in park then put it into drive and it would not move at all. the transmission would not engage. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. they think it was just a glitch. *jb

Dt: consumer complained about reflection of dashboard on windshield. the tan colored dashboard reflected in the windshield even in the daylight, but it was worse in the sun, causing poor visibility of front windshield. consumer said that reflection of windshield in the sun light was very bad and very dangerous. *ak *nm

Dt: 2005 ford 500 sedan did not have an intermediate or second gear for gearing down to going down mountains. this was a safety issue, and needed to be brought to ford's attention. *ak *nm

I noticed shimmy in front end while applying brakes, and grinding noise from right rear at the same time.there was a squeak in the rear suspension going over the slightest bumps. the car had 1443 miles on it. i took it to the dealer and left it for the day. their response was, customer states vibration when braking, test drove and resurfaced front rotors. customer states right rear brake grabs, test drove and could not duplicate customers concern at this time. customer states there is a squeak noise going over bumps, seems to be coming from the rear. per ssm18479, ford engineering is looking into this concern, we have applied krytox grease to suspension. the 2nd visit to the dealership, 3429 miles on car, it had a hesitation when accelerating, still having right rear brake grinding, extremely excessive brake dust on right rear wheel. dealer response, customer states there is a hesitation on acceleration, test drove to verify concern/vehicle did hesitate on rolling take off. diag. system and found no codes/checked pidsall ok checked oasis and found tsb 05 11 08 performed tsb reprogrammed pcm/tcm, rechecked, all ok. customer states right rear brakes seem to be dragging, excessive dust. checked right rear brake for sticking/checked ebrake system and found working ok/checked brake caliper for binding and caliper slides and pad slides, all ok. could not duplicate customers concern at this time. the car has 4700 miles on it now, still has extremely heavy brake dust on the right rear wheel, still feels and sounds like it is grinding, still no satisfaction with dealer's response that there is nothing wrong with right rear wheel/brake system.

Dt: consumer states he has a new 2005 ford five hundred. the dash reflects so much on the inside of the windshield that he cannot see through the windshield. he does not know if it is due to the color of the dash or if it is the windshield itself. the inside of the window is the same color as the dash, a tan color. he noticed this the first sun day after he bought the car back in february. the dealer said they couldn't do anything. ford motor company suggested he trade vehicles. he says that at night and on cloudy days he can see just fine. it's just when there's a lot of sunshine on the windshield. *jb

I recently purchased a new ford 500 limited. this vehicle has a problem that i feel is a serious safety issue to children. the seat belts in the rear are positioned in such a manner as to cross children's necks. the seat belts hit our 9 year old granddaughter, who is tall for her age, on her neck and we also have a 6 year old grandson who is very tall and the belt rides his kneck even with him in a boster seat. this car needs to be equiped with "comfort guides" like the ones found in gm cars. it is not safe for small adults or children who no longer need car seats to ride in the back of this vehicle. i believe the problem should be retrofitted by ford at their expense.

Dt: consumer said that the engine failed and caused a safety problem. the vehicle lost power when pressing the accelerator. this happened for a month but has been intermittent. the engine felt like it was skipping. the speed that the vehicle was traveling was not a factor nor were the road conditions. the consumer took vehicle to dealership twice but the problem recurred. the manufacturer has not been contacted. the dealership suggested that the problem could be a computer related issue. the owner had the black box installed in the vehicle and turned it over to the dealership this morning. the problem has still not been resolved. owner is taking the vehicle back to dealer next week for additional testing. *ak

Problems with suspension on 2005 ford 500's. numerous technical service bulletins address rear brake and suspension problems. lemon law criteria meet in colorado, submitted certified mail and it took ford over a week to accept letter, only after i visited attorney general. car could not be driven at speed limit on i-80 creating a dangerous situation. as of today the car is at the ford dealer again. ford regional rep says they won't take it back. tuesday 4/19/2005 miles in to dealer 2091 miles problems going to lincoln, nebraska, could not hold speed limit on i-80 because of handling problems and suspension reporting vibrations and noises to driver. no trouble found – balanced 1 tire with ½ oz of weight. friday 5/06/2005 miles in to dealer 2523 miles same story as above. replaced rear brake pads, machined rotors installed ford part # 5f9z-2200-b kit brake sho ford part # 5g1z-18125fa rear struts times 2 lubricated e-brake cable per ford tsb service manager took for test ride and problems persist with service manager driving. monday 5/16/2005 miles in to dealer 2556 same story as above failed test ride by service manager on 5/06/2005 service ticket ford part # 5f9z-5500-ar arm assembly right rear ford part # 5g1z-5a772-b bar stabilizer rear (2 times) this time i have been without use of the vehicle or loaner since friday may 6 2005. 11 days.

The consumer's 2005 ford 500 provided insufficient lighting in the dash. *nm this problem affected the consumers view of the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and the oil unit(s). *jb

Vehichle consistently fails to start on the first try. hard starts, dieseling, and stalling are constant.*ak

Vehichle constantly shifting. "searches" for for correct gear. had computer replaced and a week later reoccurred. reprogrammed computer again and reoccurred. ford unable to repair. losing 6-8 mpg.*ak

Upon putting the vehicle in park it will put itself into reverse. this happened twice. going down hill the at 50 mph the speedometer will drop to 20 mph. losing two to two and one half miles to a gallon. contacted the dealer. took the vehicle in. ford had the vehicle for four weeks. ford stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. however, the problem recurred. *ak

The front windshield defroster does not defrost the driver's side properly. this condition caused poor visibility when driving in inclement conditions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions. the dealer and the manufacturer were unable to resolve or correct this issue. the consumer stated this condition almost caused him to be involved in a crash.*ak *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. the contact stated that the transmission failed. upon shifting into gear, the vehicle accelerated on its own even with the brakes applied. the vehicle would then enter into fail safe mode and stall. the failure would recur upon restart. there were no lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection and they stated that the failure was due to a throttle body failure. the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the wrench warning indicator illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where the vacuum operative valve behind the throttle body was replaced. the failure recurred after the repairs. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 121,000.

Instrument cluster failure. all gauges drop to zero. multiple dash warning lights come on, dashboard lights go black, turn signal lights will not operate. problem is intermittent. problem began 8/3/07. off and on since. dealer can not find problem. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle slipped out of gear and the rpm's increased. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not provide a remedy. the contact feels that a crash could occur due to the over acceleration. the current mileage was 120,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford five hundred. the contact stated that her vehicle shut off while driving various speeds; however, within a few minutes she was able to restart it. the dealer confirmed that the throttle body failed and that the parts are on a national back order. the dealer advised the contact to purchase the parts from a local junk yard. the manufacturer stated that over 1,000 parts are on back order and that they are unsure of when the parts would be available. the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 78,000.

One day in june i was pulling up to a store parking space rolling roughly 5mph. i had my foot on the brake, i was about to stop. without touching the gas my 2005 ford five hundred lunged at the building as if the throttle was stuck wide open! i had to push the break as hard as i could to keep it from crashing into the store! ford should have a recall on this issue! it is extremely dangerous! this has happened to many ford five hundred owners! last month in january my five hundred had other issues. i was driving 35mph and all of a sudden my car had no power, i gave it gas and it would growl but no power. i had to pull over and shut the car off. one restarted it returned to normal but the wrench icon light was on the dash. i have also had an idling problem. while at idle my car would sputter. the rpm's were low and it would idle rough and surge from low to high, i tried hitting the gas pedal and the car stalled! again other ford five hundred owners also experienced these issues! ford its time to step up and do a recall!!!! *tr
