WHEN CHANGING FLAT TIRE THE VERY FIRST TIME I USED THE TIRE JACK, THE JACK COLLAPSED AFTER REMOVING THE TIRE THAT WAS DAMAGED, CAUSING THE CAR TO FALL TO THE GROUND. THE JACK WAS NOT ABLE TO BE USED TO INSTALL THE SPARE TIRE BECAUSE THE PINS WHERE NO LONGER IN THERE KEEPER.I FEEL THAT IF YOU EXAMINE THE JACK YOU WILL SEE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE JACK. FIRST MY FAN BURNED OUT WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD, IT BURNED OUT AGAIN TWO YEARS LATER AND BOTH TIMES I had to pay for it myself. The wiper blades wouldn’t park about 2 years old I had to pay for a new motor for that and now it is doing the same thing again two years later.

I was on my way to work and i was trying to turn into my job and i made it about half way into the parking lot where part of my car was sti'll in the road when my car just shifted down into neutral and would not go back into drive so i ended up having to be towed into the parking lot by a young man that stopped to help gi've me a hand to get my car out of the road i was on a major street that gets travelse alot and it was driving just fine until i went to turn into my job and it just quit shifting period

My impala keeps stalling!!! while driving it, and doesn't matter if i'm going 30 or 55, just stalls, its a death trap, but that's all we have to drive, and i have to haul a disabled person!!! am scared, have spent a lot of money replacing parts that it could "potentially" be! at a loss, please help!!! *tr

When the car is sitting at a stoplight, or pressing on the brake for long periods of time, it shakes lightly and it shuts down. it starts up again after restarting the car. this happens frequently.

Speed gage is not working correctly. it will work and stop working in rotation. when car in not in movement, it sometimes shows vehicle is going a speed of 60 to 120 miles per hour. when in motion the gage moves from random speed to speed. sometimes at estimated speed of 60 miles per hour the gage is showing 5 miles per hour or maybe 105 miles per hour.

Instrument cluster not working and the power steering went out.

Car wouldn't start and we thought it was battery so went and bought new battery.. but that didn't work either.. so called a mechanic friend and ''he told us to run a wire to the small screw and large screw on starter, and it started!! but there's a recall on these ignitions and ours needs to be fixed as its our only vechile..

From a stopped position, trying to take off car acts as if i'm neutral and then will suddenly jerk into gear. the automatic hear shifts are rough and delayed. there's very little power or struggle to register when applying gas. when on fwy especially when in slow moving traffic there is a lot of problems with the transmission and slipping, rough gear shifts both up and down. then the scary part is when driving with my 2 little girls and in regular or heavy traffic and making turns, especially left, i have had the car freeze up on me in the middle of intersections. when i try and accelerate i'm stuck as if i'm neutral and hear the engine revving and finally will violently like pop into gear. it's made me have a lot of safety issues for myself and children. it's very frustrating and problematic. with all these things happening the transmission nor check engine light has appeared, therefore making it tremendously difficult near impossible for me to have it properly diagnosed using scanner and computer reader. every repair shop has given different "findings" after only a drive around the block. it's a nightmare.

The indicators in the front panel next to the steering wheel work inconsistently. the speedometer, the odometer, gas gauge, turn signals,and emergency blinker signal work sporadically. the right turn signal doesn't work at all. so it is dangerous to try to turn left when cars are advancing towards me or to turn right when cars are driving behind me. the yellow warning light for low gas is the only consistent working signal. this condition has existed for two years.

From starting position to slowing driving the transmission slips and or jerks into gear heavily. from 1st to 2nd very noticeable.

The transmission started to develop a shudder at 140000 miles. i have taken it in multiple times to get looked at. the las resort would be to get a new transmission. this issue causes the car to not take off right away or shake pretty bad making it seem or feel that it will stop, shut down, or jam up even while driving down the road. i have read that this is a common problem with this vehicle model. it happens at stop lights, while running, and while turning. please investigate this matter before many people waste thousands of dollars trying to investigate this issue. thank you

When stationary and the key is inserted, the ignition switch will not turn therefore the engine will not start. we have already taken it in for the recall and all that was done was the key was retrofitted but the ignition switch needs full replacement. this happened prior to the recall and continues to happen after the recall. repair costs have become expensive and unaffordable!!!

When i go to turn on my car it does not turn on. it takes a couple tries to get the car started. on top of that problem the car is now jolting when i accelerate. i’ve had the car for only a year and have taken excellent care of it and beforehand it was at a dealership. i am very concerned since i have young children going in my car and it’s my transportation to make my income.

Internal security system fails without notice, car wont start. security light stays on or flashes. car still wont start. it can be hours or even days before this problem resets and car starts and works. but then will soon fail as soon as the vehicle is shut off. has coasted me several jobs, loss work hours, and extra money i spent on starter, but came to find out it was the security feature chevy put in, i'm not the only one who has been having this problem.

I am complaining about the just purchased whic was vavoline when placed in vehicle engine thermal viscosity breakdown happened and engine block seized. restarted after oil change same oil engine block seized. with what i’m reading and watching the third or fourth vehicle towed from the neighborhood maybe it’s the motor oil. i understand that high heat breaks down rapidly with soy based lubricants. i understand you might not be able to admit this or are unaware but could you please keep on file.

Wont go into park, key stuck in ignition while trying to park

I’ve replaced the battery along with new tires hoping that all the jerking would stop however they didn’t! the car seems to have bad timing or not wanting to shift in right hears

Hi i purchased my impala last year used and for about the first 6 months it ran fine...now electrical panel goes on the fritz dimming my lights and dashboard...power windows and mirrors not working... also abs light and traction lights on consistently...traction randomly activates and car lighters just stopped working. something is wrong with this specific model and it really needs to be recalled. also turn key to start car and the car doesn't start so i do this 2-3 times to start car up...really needs to recall all 2005 impalas

My instrument cluster is completely out of wack !! none of the gauges are working and this is a common problem that occurs in this model car . this should have definitely been a recall!!

Recently, i have been having trouble with my 2005 impala and the abs/traction system. at the beginning, the "abs, traction off and service traction system" lights would come on. the abs and traction lights would stay on and the service traction was intermittent. the car also makes a loud "dinging" sound when the lights come on. when i would make a turn, the car would also make a grinding sound and the service traction light would come back on. eventually, the traction began kicking in when it was not suppose to and the car would not stop properly. this of course was a serious safety issue. i have researched this problem and found complaints upon complaints about this same problem. i contacted gm and they told me they never heard of this problem which i find hard to believe. i have spent an enormous amount of time and money trying to fix this problem. my local dealership wanted almost $4,000 for repairs. i then took the car to a very reputable repair shop and they, like two other shops i checked with, told me they have seen this numerous times in these cars. they attempted to fix the problem but the problem still exists. i spent $2,000 having the wheel hubs, abs harnesses and brake pressure modulator valve replaced. the lights, although intermittent, are still coming on! sometimes it is when i turn the car on, back up or even just driving down the road. this car only has 77,000 miles on it and i feel i should not be having this problem. i have had to take it back twice and they are still attempting to find the source of the problem. this is the only major problem i have had with this car. any assistance you could give me would be appreciated.

I have another complaint about this vehicle and the list could go on.i purchased my vehicle and paid cash for it.about a few months ago my dash meters started going out.i have almost ran out of gas on may occasions with my children.the speedometer goes out and i have to keep up with traffic.also my power steering pump decided that it wanted to lock up in the middle of a parking lot.it's leaking and messing up other parts of my car i believe.my car has been maintenance and cared for.these problem came out of no where without warning.they should be repaired by the makers and not the consumers.this is a safety hazard that warrants a recall.

When i am driving my vehicle the gear shift the stick on it's own.i hear a pop sound when it happens.this happens when i am in motion and driving the car..i have already taken my car in for a recall last year to replace a ignition switch.it has been happening for a few weeks and i thought it was normal,until i was in traffic and it moved on it's own. also last year i had to have the fuel injector replaced on my car.it had been leaking gas for a while.the dealership told me i would have to pay to have it fixed.there weren't any recalls during the time.

I was accelerating and merging onto a road and just got into the middle lane. suddenly the car kept accelerating even though i had stopped pressing the pedal. the engine was revving and the car got up to 70 mph in a 55 zone. the brakes did not seem to help slow the car. in a panic i shifted to neutral and was able to pull onto the shoulder and stop the car. even when i was in park, the engine was still revving. i turned the vehicle off and rested it about 5 minutes and was able to restart it. it did not seem to have any problems on the way home after that. it was an extremely scary and dangerous situation as there were cars very close to me. i noticed that my floor mat was much higher than usual and was under the accelerator. i don't know if that could have contributed to the problem. i do often use cruise control. i cannot remember if it was on at the time and i cannot remember if i was accelerating using the steering wheel button. i do not believe i was at the time but the cruise control likely was on. all i remember is it going out of control. it seemed best to report the situation. i am very glad nothing serious happened as it very well could have. i may get a ticket for speeding though. i don't think they would ever believe this happened to me.

175555 miles fuel smell and fuel loss when car is running. rough start, some missing. fuel filter failed at filter inlet spraying gas onto underbody of car so didn't see the fuel spill. replaced filter and o rings.squealing belt sound at start up. serpentine belt tensioner broke, replaced tensioner and belt. no check engine warnings, no electronic gauges i have the basic impala model. watched the fuel gauge drop by lines while driving and smelled gas when shut off car. fire hazard, and engine failure if the belt broke completely..another 300$ spent

Sometimes the vehicle will not start right away. the security light comes on and the vehicle will not start. we have had to wait 10 minutes to try again. to bypass this we have to leave the door open, insert the key and wait 5 seconds, turn the key to acc and wait another 5 seconds. then we turn the key to start but do not turn the engine until the door open warning light comes on. this will give the vehicle a moment to pass the security issue and it starts right up. i hate doing this every time! there has to be a fix we can all afford. i have small children and in an emergency i do not have time to guess or hope or even waste 20 seconds to start my vehicle. this is annoying and it should be fixed at the manufacturer's expense. or at least pay half of the repairs and diagnosis. please take into consideration that an emergency trip to the hospital or urgent care should not be delayed by the what-ifs of a car starting properly or wasting 10 minutes to try again.

While driving on a smooth dark country road at a speed of 50 mph time 10:35pm i had activated the high beam headlights and approximately 10 seconds later the headlamps went off leaving only the daytime running lights on. visibility was instantly decreased to an unsafe level without prior warning. i had immediately reactivated the low beams with the multi-function switch and the headlamps (low beam) resumed operation. prior to this failure the high beam headlamps were not in operation for any long periods of time. this type of failure without prior warning could lead to the probability of an accident. this electrical headlamp problem should be addressed as a vehicle safety recall. i have checked on-line resources about this problem and have found several complaints of the same or similar issues with chevrolet impalas from the 2000-2005 model years.

The hi beam headlights failed, which made the lo beam headlights go out when the hi beam was engaged. repair service found a corroded "pin" in a multi-pin electrical connection.this is a "protected" connection, in the engine compartment, it has been corroded for a very long time according to the electric serviceman. he informed me the other "pins" will fail also effecting the wipers and other "necessary" safety components, because of the condition of this connector.

Had to recently replace fuel ejection and other part for fuel leaking and fumes overcoming in car. now the speedometer, fuel and tack gauge stopped working. gm has not recalled this on the impala and they are aware this is a problem but will not take responsibility. these issues have been a serious safety hazard for my daughter and cannot drive the car. every chevy dealership and parts stores think there is a recall until they look it up. thats how much they are aware of the issues. once again ill have to pay approx. 300.00 just for the part. dorman oe solutions instrument cluster. how can we stop gm from getting away with this! we need help!

Intermittent no crank, no start. problem is known problem with ignition switch, tumbler, and defective "passlock system". dealers charge excessive proces for repairs that may or may not actually fix the problem. it seems to be a bad design issue, and is related to the defective ignition recalls. there is a fairly extensive complaint list, and the mfr certainly has data reflecting that the problem covers multi model and years of gm cars and trucks.

Intermittent non-start that resets in 10 to 15 minutes. non-start occurred once after the car stalled on a highway. it started after about 12 minutes of time lapse.

Starting in february of 2012, my car has failed to start on several occasions. i have had this car for 3 years and it has let me down so many times. i go to crank my car and it doesn't do anything. i took it to a certified mechanic and he told me it was the security system and he showed me how to reset it. you turn the ignition to the on position, wait for the security light to blink 3 times, then turn the ignition back to the off position and wait about 12 minutes and then your car will crank. if not repeat the steps and wait a few minutes longer before trying to crank it. i have waited up to 1 1/2 hours. i have been late for work, stuck in 100 degree weather with my kis, couldn't rush daughter to hospital when she had a 102 degree fever. this is very dangerous and i am sick of this unreliable car! *tr

When i was driving my vehicle a couple months back my car only steer one way and i had to stop on side of the road so i went to the shop and they told me ot was my rack and pinion so he repair that after a few weeks of driving ot my rack started leaking again now im stuck with that not to mention i replace my 02 shift sensor and i suppose to stop my car for stall in firest and second gear but it still do d the same and now it go n to gear and won't move

After the ignition is shut off with either the key in or out of ignition, when any door is open the radio is supposed to turn off. periodically the radio will stay of even after the door is opened. most times, the radio will go off if the door is opened back up, but there have been some times that the radio never shuts off. the sensor is combined into the lock assembly. i have been checking forums for any chevy, gmc, saturn, or other gm models and it seems to be a common problem. i also have a saturn outlook that is doing the same thing.

Over the last 2 years i have experienced numerous problems. the first problem was shifting of the vehicle which shifts very hard. the second problem was a lot of rust and needing to have body work done. now with a little over 70,000 miles on the car it might not pass inspection next year because the body/frame is so rusted that it would cost more to have it fixed than the car is worth. the car is well taken care of so it is not for lack of caretaking on my part. the third problem is in the last 2 months periodically we can smell gas in the inside of the car, not exhaust fumes - gas. it's awful; nauseating and unbearable. this smell can also be detected outside of the vehicle. i worry about the health and safety of me and my family in this vehicle for these reasons. also, at this point i am afraid to park the car in our attached garage for fear it could start a fire. *tr

Seems a lot of 2000-2005 impalas are experiencing the same issues as i am with the dash instrument panel and possible issues with the passlock system. sometimes i have to wait 10-15 minutes to crank my car when it wont start or do the lock and unlock trick to reset the passlock system. ironically enough haven't had issues with the ignition switch which now has an active recall. instrument panel speedometer stuck on 120 mph while in stop position. ..almost got a ticket over memorial day weekend because i was speeding. ..showed the officer my speedometer that was sitting on 90 mph at the time and he gave me a warning and told me to get that fixed. *tr

The passlock sensor went bad at 74000 miles. i could not start my car for up to a 1/2 hour. this happened several times. i had the pass lock sensor replaced at a cost of approximately $600. shortly after the replacement the speedometer became stuck at 60 mph. i discovered when i turned my key in the ignition the needle on the speedometer would drop. if i turned the key several times it would reset itself. i do not want to do this because i fear it will wear out the ignition switch. then the gas gauge stopped working. the needle gets stuck far beyond the full or empty line and will not budge unless i do ignition switch thing. i have to use my trip meter and guess how much fuel i have left. the "needs fuel" light is still working so far. then the temperature gauge stopped working and now the fan motor sensor is also going bad on the a/c unit. these issues should be part of a recall. i cannot afford to keep fixing this vehicle. as i understand it these problems are part of the cluster gauge system and there have been many complaints about it. *js

This is for information only: our car's speed odometer started acting up--registering high speeds when hardly moving and no speed when on the interstate- in november, 2010. i called the 800 number in the owners manual and after exchanging phone calls for several weeks the told me that they would furnish a new instrument cluster for our car free as long as we paid the labor to have it installed at a local dealer. i had to take car to dealer so they could get correct instrument cluster number so they could send correct one. dealer contacted us when cluster was there and we took car in. as luck would have it we had a card from either the dealer or gm for a one time 10% discount. we were able to use this and had cluster replaced for $135.00 total labor and no cost for parts. well worth a few phone calls to gm/chevrolet. *tr

Found out my horn stopped working while driving. nearly got in several accidents because i couldn't sound my horn as warning. found out from shinee la fleur at the dealership that chevy put in a update to cover the horn from water damage. this should have been a recall not an update. the horn shorted out because water got to the electric part of the horn. this problem could have shorted out my entire electrical system but luckily it only shorted out the horn. the dealer wants to charge me $425 for there mistake. i would like this car to be on a recall for possible damage by water because the shield they put on now protects it. why wasn't this shield sold with the car from the beginning. the tech stated that this problem does exist on all these cars but chevy does nothing about it. *js

I've heard a lot about the recalls regarding several chevy vehicles in regards to the ignition and i was wondering why impalas are not on the list. you can look at numerous web forms with people having trouble starting their impala's like my self. you can also read that there is really no explanation or fix to the problem. the problem in general is a good majority of the time older chevy impala's have a hard time starting or just won't start for a good 15 minutes. from the many impala owners i talk to a lot of them are wondering if this was the start of the issue with the recalled chevy vehicles. i have yet to experience any other described issue related to the recall but again i am worried if this is a sign of the issues or slightly related. *tr

I was driving at approximately 40 mph on a straight roadway with brights on when the headlights went out. this occurred in the early morning while it was still dark out. the parking lights remained on. pulling the headlight switch on the left side of dash to the "manual on" position did not help. i turned on the fog lights and returned home using the fog lights only. upon arriving home, i was able to get the headlights to work again by switching to high beam and back. this has been an intermittent problem for this vehicle in the past month. the multifunction switch felt like it was fully engaged and gave an audible click when pulled. i have ordered a replacement multifunction switch to repair this. *tr

The transmission hesitates at stop and go traffic, tranny shop says it is a switch solenoid that is defective in the transmission itself. it is commonly reported by many consumers of this make, model and year. seems to shift fine when driving on longer drives ie. interstate driving. could cause potential safety hazard when trying to pull out into traffic from stopped position. *tr

I noticed a strange smell like melting plastic coming from my passenger side dashboard under the glove compartment. took it straight to the dealer. they discovered my back window defrost shorted out the fuse box on the passenger side. completely melted it and ruined the box. if i had waited any longer it probably would have started a fire. *tr

When i first got the car i noticed that while driving it would sound like it wanted to cut off and eventually it did every time i came to a complete stop. eventually it would not start at all. had to get the fuel regulator pump changed twice. then my car was claiming to be overheating so i changed the thermostat, temperature sensor and fan relays. but my temperature gauge is reading out of whack saying my car is overheating when its not. a couple months later my speedometer just started acting up as well . it keep moving up all around and sometimes may stay on zero. yesterday it made a complete 360 and is stuck it at the bottom. a coworker was jus telling me about her chevy truck speedometer problems last week and literally within a weeks time the exact thing happens to me with no warning. there must need to be a recall if i don't even have to finish typing chevy impala and speedometer problems automatically pops up!!!! *tr

I have spun the motor in my wipers 3 times now. the snow or ice build up under the hood where the wipers rest. i have had it fixed 2 times now. this time wipers were doing fine, made sure that i had no ice or snow on the wipers as they turn on (wake up). then when i went to shut them off after our last ice storm, the ice build up under the hood stopped them from going down under the hood, and made them spin again. now its a visual distraction as i am forced to drive with the wipers in the upright position on my windshield. it makes for blind spots. i know that i am not the only one who has this problem. the first time i checked out carcomplaints.com and was able to find a diagram on how to fix it from someone else. but now its spun so many times i will have to take it to a mechanic and order parts and spend unnecessary money to fix something that should never have happened. *tr

August 2013 involved in a car accident, quick deceleration, frontal crash. other driver pulled into traffic, with her view blocked of moving traffic approaching her. once the truck driving in front of me turned she was stopped in the roadway. i attempted to stop my car quickly but did not have more than 4 seconds in which to stop my car. i impacted the front end, driver side quarter panel, and engine compartment of a 2005 honda civic. the 2005 chevrolet impala shoulder harness locking mechanism failed. the airbag did not deploy at the time of the accident. my body propelled forward upon braking and i impacted with a fully extended shoulder harness. the length of the shoulder harness only extends to 1.5 inches from the steering wheel, my body continued to travel beyond the extension of the harness causing injury to my left clavicle, upper sternum, neck, shoulders and ribs. my upper body, sternum and torso hit the steering resulting in whiplash, to include abdominal, neck, sternum, clavicle, shoulder and scapulothoracic injuries. my knee hit the dash underneath the steering wheel. *tr

My car just lost all power so i coasted to a stop. i smelled smoke and saw it coming from under the hood. the car started on fire and was a total loss.

While driving on the interstate with the cruise set to 65 mph, the needle on the speedometer started to slowly show a decrease in speed eventhough the actual speed of the car did not change. over the next 50 miles the speedometer continued to decrease until it was below 0 although the cars speed stayed a 65mph. since then similar problems appeared with the rpm guage where the needle shows it redlining even though the car is idling.

After shopping, my wife started the car and the fuel gauge needle went far to the right well beyond the full mark. at that time, there was approximately 1/2 tank of gas. we noted the mileage from the odometer and have used that as a basis on when to fill the car. we checked with a garage and they showed us a notification that had come from chevrolet that this happened frequently with 2005 chevy impalas. they said it is probably the dashboard cluster or the sensor from the fuel tank. either repair would cost over $500.00. i checked online and noticed that chevy suv's from that era were fixed for free if they had less than 120,000 miles. i also noted a large number of complaints from 2005 chevy impala drivers about the lack of response from chevrolet. if that is the case and their is no compensation for a mistake made by the manufacturer, then this will be the last chevy product i or my family will ever buy.

Wipers quick working. *tr

This has happened a few times now with both the speedometer and temperature gauge. i start the car and start driving and happen to look down and either the speedometer or the temperature gauge will be giving a false high reading. seeing as the car had just started it could not possibly be overheating. i find if i shut the car off and cycle the key from off to on without starting engine i can get it to drop back to where it should be. i hear this is a very common problem and it will fail eventually. i drive highways mostly and not knowing my correct speed when trying to enter and merge with traffic is very dangerous.

During a snow storm, traveling with traffic at a safe speed. i was cut off by another vehicle because my horn failed. i was not able to alert the other driver that it was not safe to merge into my lane. resulting in my car entering the ditch to avoid a multi-car accident. i have researched 2005 chevy impala horn failure, and i have found many have burned out. my mechanic states he believes it is a known issue with chevrolet due to the placement of the horn itself, the horn is in an unprotected area, it can and will "burn" out due to rain water, snow, etc. this is a safety issue. as important as any other. the cost to replace the horn is over $200.00 with labor because of the additional labor to get to the horn.

Speedometer getting stuck & not registering properly. driver is not able to tell what speed the car is traveling at. this could result in traffic infractions for an otherwise very good driving record & could be a safety hazard. chevrolet really needs to step up & fix this issue as research has shown this is a common problem with this make, model, & year. a family member also has the same car but the base model & his gas gauge suddenly stopped working about a year ago.

I was driving my car at 45mph and suddenly my speedometer and instrument panel went crazy. it said i was going 120mph. furthermore, my temperature gauge was inaccurate causing my car to overheat. this caused the head gaskets to blow and other parts had to be replaced. i have spent over $1,900.00 fixing this issue. i was told the instrument panel cluster is not working properly and needs to be replaced which is over $2,000.00. chevrolet knows about this problem yet chooses to sit on the sidelines as thousands of people are having the same issue. action needs to be taken with chevrolet to resolve these issues. thank you

I was on my way to work at at 6:30 am on 9-24-13 when my headlights went off. it was pitch dark and i was totally without headlights. i was able to turn on the fog lights this car has, but it was still hard to see. i have noticed the lights seemed dimmer than what i consider normal. i made an appointment with a local mechanic. he cannot find the reason for the dim lights or the lights going off by themselves. this is very dangerous and i am surprised a recall has not been issued to address this very serious safety issue. when i conducted a google search i noticed that this is a common problem with a number of gm vehicles. it is a wonder i did not crash my vehicle as i never expected my light to go out as i traveled down a highway. *js

Car has just rolled over to a little over 165,,000 miles and when we bought it at the time we didn't think anything of it and then turns out a year after we bought the car it started smelling like gas big time but we didn't know where it was coming from then when i went to put the car in park the check engine light came on so im like thinking now what and so we take it to a garage and they say oh your entire exhaust system is rusted out and that there's a dollar size hole near the front of the exhaust but we didn't get it fixed becuz we couldn't at the time so they just told me to drive it as is and i have been but i've been noticing that it sounds louder and louder almost like how a car does not have an exhaust system and i really don't feel safe becuz its loud and it smells like gas on the inside and im afraid of it catching on fire one of these days and as for the resistor blower module for the a/c and heater we already had to replace that three times becuz it kept going out and i really don't want to have the car catch on fire becuz the blower motor resistor module isn't working properly and i don't have any money to keep fixing things on my car. *tr

First bought the car in 2011 with 160,000 miles on it and four months later my entire steering goes out so i had no power steering the people i bought the car from didn't bother to tell me about it and the car wasn't under warranty so when we told them about it they didn't want to fix it. then exactly a year later the same problem happens i don't have any power steering so we got the power steering fixed twice now so im thinking ok something is going on here then this year about the exact same time as the previous two times my power steering goes out again for the third time so we got that fixed again and i don't wanna sink anymore money into my car. as for my traction control and abs system i have nothing even though we took it to a garage to have it fixed and they said they fixed it now three days later the abs and traction control light are on again saying i don't have either and as of now i don't feel safe with my car anymore because the power steering has gone out so many times and since i don't have abs or traction control anymore. *tr

At 60000 vehicle had a transmission slip. re-manufactured transmission installed under extended car warranty. at 120000 vehicle had a transmission slip. worn internal transmission gears replaced under extended car warranty. at 160000 vehicle had a transmission slip. re-manufactured transmission installed under extended warranty. so as you can clearly do the math the first transmission failed at 60,000, the second at 120,000 and the third at 160,000. now at 180,000 in the month of june 2013 the trans is slipping again but i have yet to have the fourth incident evaluated.

My wife was sitting still at a red light on a road with a 50mph speed limit. the other driver did not see the red light or her car & rear ended her at full speed. the back of her seat snapped all the way back and the bottom of the seat lodged upward causing her thighs and pelvic area to be severely compressed between the steering wheel and seat while her head was jostled around vigorously due to the lack of back support. her seatbelt was on and worn properly. her body was thrown forward then slammed back hard. she sustained injury and was diagnosed with a brain contusion and severe whiplash by the trauma unit after being rushed via ambulance to the nearest local hospital. *tr

First... my car all of the sudden started leaking like an oil tanker last january 2012, and the abs/traction control lights came on. took the car to the chevy dealership, and had major repair work done on transmission, and engine for leaks. spent $2100 and was quote $2600 to replace the abs/traction control modulator for my abs/traction control to work again. the code they pulled was c1218. needless to say it has not been repaired yet. a month after spending this money, i had to replace the water pump, and almost a year later i had to replace a plastic elbow from the water pump to my radiator which was another $300. then this past december 2012, my transmission all of the sudden jerked hard from 1st to 2nd and so on during local driving. max speed limit is 40mph locally. took it to chevy and was told i need a new transmission, so i took it for a second opinion and was told code p1811 was coded for a long shift, but that my transmission was a 1/2 quart low so they filled it with trans additive. they suggested i try a "transmission shop" for them to check because maybe my trans solenoid was bad, which would still cost quite a bit for repair, but not nearly as much as a new transmission. my car has 122,000 long highway miles, not local; stop & go. i do not feel my abs/traction control, nor my trans should be bad. i maintain my car, and based on my internet searches many people have had the exact same problems with these cars. i emailed chevy and was basically told this is my problem and no concession was offered on their part to assist me with these repairs. i have been laid off from my job, and returned to school so needless to say cannot afford a new car, but this car is costing more than it is worth. chevy needs to quit ignoring these problems, and take care of loyal customers before they lose them. *tr

I'm not sure what this would be classified under but here's the description. the gauges go haywire, i.e. the speedometer just keeps going up even if you slow down - until it goes almost all the way around again. it normally stops at the bottom like at the 200 degree position if on a 360 degree view. this has been happening on my car since around the 30k mileage. starting just last week [march 2012], now the temperature gauge is starting to do the same thing. it started running "hot", [but not really] so i immediately shut down my car, called my mechanic, etc. the temp gauge also went all the way around and sometimes stays there, sometimes it comes back around to normal. upon restarting the car, the temp gauge would start coming back down in segments - turning the ignition switch on/off would make the gauges come back down to normal in notches or spaced increments. now i'm running my car without knowing the proper speed and also not sure if my car is really overheating or not. *tr

I purchased a car from icarsnow (704-551-0990) on south blvd in charlotte on october 28, 2011. i drove the car for a week when the gears started slipping and the car started to stall and jerk the car had a 90 day warranty so i called southern warranty (704-282-1814) and they had me to take the car to carson automotive 10940 a e. independence blvd. matthews nc they replaced the transmission and converter on 11/4/11. i picked the car up drove for a week or two and the car was still stalling and jerking. i called carson automotive and took the car back.. i also heard a noise in the engine. i took the car back to carson automotive they could not find why the car was stalling and jerking but the said the engine needed to be replaced because of a rod the engine was replaced on 12/27/11. that is when i found out that the 90 day warranty was 50/50 where if anything major happen to the car the warranty company would pay have and i would have to pay half. this is not how it was explained by the salesman at icarsnow. he told me after the 90 day warranty if anything happens major that the warranty company and i would share the cost. in order for me to not loose the money already paid on the car i have to pay half on the engine. after the engine was replaced the car was leaking anti- freeze i took the car back again carson automotive could not find anything. the rear window replaced because the defrost was not attached and sparked when you touched it. there was also a leak in the trunk that had to be repaired. after that the temperature gauge started to move up i took the car to my mechanic for him to check it out on 2/25/12. the problem was possible head gasket damage. i took the car back to carson automotive since they put the engine in. they told me that it was not the engine but a cracked radiator. radiator was replaced on 2/27/12. *tr

This report is about sudden and repeated headlight electrical system failure in a 2005 chevrolet impala sedan, and a request for a nationwide safety recall and repair at gm expense for this issue. after getting in my 2005 impala sedan at approximately 4:55 pm on 16 february 2012, i started up and drove out on the road then i smelled burning plastic and noticed the headlights (low beam) were out. i tried the high beams and they worked as did the left and right turn signals, the windshield wiper controls and the cruise control functioned. as darkness increased i had to hold the switch in the high beam position so i could see to drive so i could get home. from what i could determine the problem seems to be in the wiring to/from the multifunction light control switch or maybe it is the switch itself on the steering column. the fuses and relays and the all seemed to be in working order but the low beam lights still did not work. this failure is extremely dangerous and happens without warning. this is the second time this has happened to me now. with dealer parts cost for a replacement multifunction light switch at $350.00 alone, not to mention labor costs and the criticality of lights while driving means this should be a required safety recall item. i have searched mechanical forums on this subject and there are many such occurrences documented, but gm does not seem to think there is a common problem or a reason to investigate and fix the malfunction. this problem is common knowledge at gm dealerships nationwide. smelling burning plastic is an indication of a serious electrical problem which could lead to an onboard fire in the car in addition to causing injury and or death from a sudden light outage at night. again, i request a nationwide safety recall and repair be initiated as it appears to be a manufacturing defect and an extreme safety issue. *tr

The temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and speedometer have gone completely haywire! the temperature gauge goes to hot and buzzes but my car is no where near hot. i don't know if my tank is full or empty because the gauge is always on the bottom. i don't know how fast i'm going because my speedometer is stuck on 120. the dealership knows that this is a common problem but they insist on charging $500 or more to fix it...just own up and do the recall!! *tr

Several types of gm vehicles (approx 2000-2008) have severe leaking and decay problems like my chevy impala shows currently. i noticed early february 2012 when my factory speakers stopped working all together. the radio sound didn't get through, door chimes didn't work, safety and warning chimes didn't make noise, etc. a warning chime didn't signal for me to turn off my lights on a rainy day at a grocery store so that when i came back, i was stranded! this however isn't the big problem. this leak under the cowl seems to be prominent in many other vehicles and allowed gallons to enter in under my rugs, floor mats etc., and travel all over the passenger cabin so that wires were submerged, corroded, mold grew, and airbag sensor hubs became islands. yes my airbag sensors and wiring are submerged with water! please have gm recall this common problem to fix this! my car smells terrible inside from this (especially in the summer) and more importantly, i am worried that my airbags will malfunction. thank you. *tr

Started smelling gas while driving home from church on january 8, 2012. smell of fumes intensified. must roll down windows whenever driving. my eyes began to burn. i parked the car when i got home, and i could smell a lot of gas when i got out of the car. car sat until monday january 9, 2012. i still smelled gas. my car began burning extreme amount of gas. car sat until the 13th. i filled up to a full tank of gas. i drove 7 miles to the store and 7 miles back. the car burned 1/8 tank of gas. learned of 2005 chevy impala recall due to fuel system/ fuel pressure regulator. recall id# 64377. i contacted dealership. i drove home with the windows down in 19 degree weather. now it is sitting again due to mechanic recommendation. *tr

The speedometer has gone haywire. you cannot tell how fast you are going. the rpm gauge is going haywire as well. it jumps all over the place. took the car to the dealership but wouldn't you know it the warranty expired with no written notice from warranty company. the clusters are the root of all the problems and chevrolet needs to recall to repair the issues described. another alarming problem with the 2005 chevy impala i own is what is called the passlock protection. it also does not work at times and i had to find out ways to bypass the passlock on youtube. this could turn into a dangerous situation if you need to start you car in an emergency and you cant because the passlock will not let you turn on the car. sometimes you have to wait ten minutes with the key in a certain position. that is totally not acceptable. *kb

The heat on the driver side of my car will not come on but the passenger side blows like a champ. i took it to the chevy dealership and they said the door that flows cold and hot air is stuck on cool air and since its a dual air vehicle one side is blowing hot the other cold. i am very surprised this is not a recall since there are over 1,000 complaints on this one part please do something about this; i've been a long time chevy owner and i understand that things happen after driving but this is really not a driver induced problem. thank you from a valued customer. *tr

2005 chevy impala. first had an electrical problem with the abs brake system. traction control feature would engage whenever the brake was applied. this occurred at 30,000 miles. dealer warranted this. at about 80,000 miles the display panel indicated erroneous problems, ie. truck open when not. the lights would flash off and on indicating all kinds of issues when none existed. also the speedometer began to work erratically. the speedometer would indicate speeds of 30-60 mph higher than actual driving speed. turning the car off/on would gradually lower and reset the speedometer. this occurs randomly with no real pattern. seems to be electrical in nature. also could present a safety issue. *kb

My chevy impala began shaking when i attempt to slow down on the freeway from speeds of 55-65 miles an hour. i have replaced the tires, brakes, and balanced, aligned, rotated and the shaking has not stopped. this is very dangerous when you need to come to a quick stop because when your car shakes like it's falling apart your first instinct is to let go of the brake. i have researched this problem and have come to discover this is a common problem with chevrolet impala's. i can not afford to keep dumping money into a temporary solution. *tr

My speedometer gauge doesn't work it will get stuck on 20 mph constantly it never reads the correct speed but my other gauges work fine. my transmission shifts/slips harder than it should from 1st into 2ed and 2nd into 3rd. my headlights flicker when i push on my window controls to roll my windows up or down. the heat only blows on the passenger side of my car including on the defrost for the front windows and the rear window. *tr

I am trying to file a complaint about a known defect with all years of chevy impalas transmission's faulty first gear or pressure control solinoid issues. for the last year i have experienced issues with my car failing to adequately shift from starting off to the 30 mile per hour mark...you could feel my car jerk when it finally shifts. so i did what i thought would help and had a transmission flush and filter change which only solved this issue for not even a week. i went onto gm's website and was reading the forums specifically for chevy impala transmission issues and there was numerous complaints about the same issue but no offer from gm to even look into this issue. my car started to noticeably have this issue before even having 100k miles on it and right now i have 131k miles. i have followed the preventative maintenance schedule with my car since i took ownership in 2006. i posted my said issue on facebook and one of my high school classmates commented that he works at a chevy dealership (has for 13 years) and only knows of the pressure control solinoid issue, so apparently gm just doesn't want to do their customers right by fixing even the known defect or followup with the numerous complaints stated on their forum. i just paid off my car and i feel that i shouldn't have to pay such a large sum of money to fix a defect on their part. i also asked a friend of mine, that owns a chevy impala, and they too have started to experience the same issus as i. please assist us consumers in probing into foresaid issues. thanks! *tr

The only event leading to the failure was a loud sound coming from the rear left side of the vehicle. the failure involved a pull to the left and excessive heat being generated from the back left tire. the component that failed ended up being the wheel bearing. i had a mechanic replace it and also kept the old part. the old bearing was scorched (the mechanic showed me) and warped. the bearing could have locked up had it not been replaced, resulting in an accident. *tt

No events appear to lead up to the problem. it occurs randomly without warning, especially during backup operations. the abs seems to come on whenever it likes during braking, causing heavy loss in stopping power. this can occur regardless of road conditions or speed. similar to this, the traction control system appears to come on during acceleration at random times, especially at low speeds or in reverse. this occurs on dry roads frequently and occasionally causes the vehicle to pull heavily to one side as neither side is actually slipping. an accident has not yet occurred but certainly can given the nature of the failures. a tsb is available concerning the abs. this vehicle has a whopping 75 tsbs! service bulletin number : 4615 nhtsa item number : 10023171 *tt

Car: 2005 chevrolet impala, v6 3100 engine the horn in the car began having intermittent problems with functionality. it is unknown how this began except that the sound of the horn became somewhat strange to start. over time the horn failed completely. the result of this failure is a rather big safety issue given the need of the horn to warn other drives and pedestrians of your presence when they are unaware. we nearly got into three accidents (two in parking lots, one on road) as a result of our inability to honk at drivers to let them know we were there. i am a handyman/mechanic type and replaced the defective horn and added a custom water shield to prevent water from corroding the horn. there is a tsb about this issue. i believe a recall is necessary. service bulletin number : 4043 nhtsa item number : 10020089 *tt

I purchased a 2005 chevy impala in 2008. the first time i was driving on a state hwy, a very twisty road . i had my headlights on high, right in the middle of the first curve my headlights went out, i jumped the brake and flipped the lever back and forth and they finally came back on low beam, i almost wreaked. the second time i was on the freeway just coming into the outskirts of town, heavy traffic, i flipped the lever back and forth and the low beams came back on. i spoke with a dealer who said they had no complaints from other owners and was told there was no recall. it has happened too many times and can't be pinned to any particular times, now i drive with my lights on low all the time. i went online and found hundreds of people having the same problem. some had to replace their whole steering column to solve the problem. i can't afford to do this, but the car isn't safe. it keeps doing it and one of these times i will forget and it will catch me unaware and i will wreck. *tr

3.4ltr 6cyl base model has had multiple defective sensations for some time now; among those are steering, transmission shifting from a standing stop, braking and odd noises. this vehicle's 5 y/o with only 20k mi, owned by elders & used locally, i've been driving them, & now i have this car. the left outter tie rod end had to be replaced with less than 20k mi. the steering still has an unstable feel when turning and make a metal to metal clinking noise from a defective (& as told by my mechanic & nhtsa reports, repeatedly reported) intermediate steering shaft. there should be a total recall because of this defective gm engineering problem. there is also a clinking noise occasionally when accelerating from a standing stop; can not tell if this defect is from the steering or something else like the engine mounts. have not yet discovered this source. from a standing stop, the transmission will occasionally shift abruptly, either from a neutral disposition into 1st gear or from 1st to 2nd gear; the car lurches forward & the occupants heads are whipped back. this is similar to other reports of defective power train functionality i've read about with this model. braking, when just starting a trip, has an improper feel and sometimes sounds like it's grinding, as if the brake pads or rotors are cracked/worn; this is a sensation i've had with vehicles having 100,000 miles, not on a car like this with only 20k miles. the center arm rest's pad support is flimsy/cheap plastic & has broken simply upon entering & shifting in the seat. i now see why so many police departments have discontinued the impala's in favor of the charger's, crown vic's, taurus's and escapes. the us government should be severely fining gm for marketing this car. >>>this car needs to be recalled for many reasons<<<

"service traction control" warning light comes on intermittently during operation of vehicle even in perfect driving conditions. when this warning light appears, the brakes respond by becoming "spongy" or "less reactive" limiting the driver's ability to brake safely. car was inspected by two different auto repair technicians and they were able to rule out tire/hub/brake issues but were unable to pinpoint a cause for the warning light to appear and cause the problem described above. they said they reset the car's computer and this resolved the issue for about 3 weeks, then the issue recurred. *tr

After clearing snow off the windshield with the wipers, they no longer go to the park position. the wipers stop in an upward position blocking your view of the road. found bent stop tab on wiper motor assembly due to many write ups on the web. this is a very common problem and i believe gm has a fix for it. i was quoted $500+ for a replacement motor assembly. the motor still works. *tr

All three of the gauges in my 05 impala have malfunctioned. i have no way of knowing how much fuel is in the car, the temp of the engine, and at times the speed of the car. my research suggests a faulty stepper motor used by gm. while i can live with the fuel gauge malfunction and the temperature gauge malfunction, the speedometer malfunctioning presents a safety issue. when it acts up the gauge will indicate a speed that is obviously errant, leaving me guessing as to my actual speed. *tr

Tire pressure monitoring system failed repeatedly during warranty by not showing one or two of the tires pressure. was never repaired at the gm service, only reset. the defect reappeared in 3 days to 6 months after the reset. initially would appear while driving on highway. now at over 100,000km it failed for all 4 wheels. i did not attempt to do anything about this yet. the absence of tire pressure information may cause accidents due to lack of information about loss of pressure in tires. *tr

At approx 100,00km the high beam is activated when signaling a right turn. when keeping the handle in certain position the high beam goes off but comes back again when released. lately remains on when the switch returns to mid position. never experienced when signaling to the left. this behavior may blind the incoming cars' drivers and also distracts my attention from the road. i did not do anything yet for fixing the defect. *tr

There are no events leading up to the passlock security system leaving a motorist stranded at any given time. the failure happens at least once a week leaving the driver stranded at whatever location he/she cuts the car off. sometimes it will be 5min before the alarm will reset and sometimes it will be days leaving the motorist without a vehicle. nothing done to correct the problem because in this instance the alarm won't reset so the only alternative i was given by a gm dealership is to have the system disconnected. *tr

First issue took place on a clear sunny day at highway speed. the speedometer at first seemed to stick as it moved up and down instead of moving normally. the speedometer jumps to extremes in speed, either substantially higher or substantially lower than actual. once the issue started, it has remained a problem. after looking into the issue, it appears this is a fairly common complaint for gm vehicles, specifically with model years 2000 - 2006. the car in question is a 2005 impala. the current recommended fix by gm seems to be to replace the instrument panel which can cost upwards of 700 dollars. *tr

Driving at night, headlights go out within 30-60 seconds of switching from low beams to high beams. headlights stay out until the high beam switch is flipped again. it started happening once in a great while spring of '09. as time has passed, it now occurs almost every time high beams are used. cannot find a dealer or mechanic that can duplicate the problem with the car in possession, or that has a solution for the problem. *tr

Driving to work approx 06:30 am. power steering went out, managed to turn the car towards ditch to avoid oncoming vehicles. approx 45 mph, two lane frontage road. the car has always been rather weavy on the highway. the dealer couldn't find anything wrong until the recall for steering linkage was pointed out. even after that, the car handled poorly and was reported to dealer. About 1 1/2 yrs ago i bought a 2005 impala, within 4 mths my speedometer, gas gauge & rpm gauge all started acting up. my gas gauge goes way past the full line and never comes back down, the speedometer will say i am doing over 200 km when i may be doing 50 km, the only way i have found to "fix" this is by letting the car cool off for about ten minutes and then turn the key off and on until it drops the speedometer back down to zero, and my rpm gauge will drop to under zero while driving. this happens mostly during cold weather, but has been known to happen while highway driving during the rest of the year. i have been in contact with the rcmp and they feel this is a disaster waiting to happen. i have been in contact with the company and have only been told that i may get a discount on having the part in question replaced...i was told by one dealership it was a cluster problem in the dash and the part alone is $600 not including labor. i have to travel 6 hrs a month atleast for doctors appointments and the safety issue makes me very nervous on the drives to and from my doctor appointments as i do not know how fast i am going on the curves, down hills, or on icy patches on the secondary roads i have to take to my appointments. i know there are other people who have had the same issue from the complaints on the internet. the first time this happened i was december 2008 and since then has happened numerous times. *tr

Ongoing problem i hear from chevy bout this, the speedometer clusters continually fail, speedometer intermittently works, or doesn't work t all, speed sensor is functioning properly, just speedometer reads anywhere from 0 to 100, hangs up anywhere in between, when stopped can show any speed , or when moving may show 0 and not work at all, also temp gauge does not register engine temp anymore , so you have no idea when engine is overheating ,both problems can cause dangerous situations from inaccurate speeds to overheating engine which could cause a fire, i have been told from gm employees that they are aware of these problems and will not do anything to correct their defect, online you will find many many clusters for sale to replace bad ones , but they are out of other crashed impalas,and the dealer will charge way to much to correct their defect. looks like when this causes a death then it will get someone's attention, speed kills especially depending on weather and road conditions, gauges are equipment to help us judge what we do safely, when they don't work then we put everyone in harms way. *tr

2005 impala bought in 96 w/25k miles. after 1 year car had 37k miles and started exhibiting crazy performance on the display gauges. sometimes the gas indicator would reflect an empty gas tank though it was nearly full. the speedometer would reflect 35 miles while the car was stopped and other speeds when in motion. the temperature gauge would tack way over to the right indicating excessive temperatures. i tried to get this fixed but the problem was intermittent and could not be duplicated when taken to the shop. i have been told the entire instrument cluster was known for these issues. now that i've had the car a few more years the crazy markings are more frequent. the biggest concern is the temperature gauge because i can not tell when i have a real problem. i took it to a chevy dealer and after a number of calls to the corp office by the dealer, gm would not do anything about this other than charge me almost $800. what irks me is that there is a recall for this on gm trucks but not on cars. shouldn't that be a clue? i'll go back to nissan as soon as i can. *tr

On saturday july 18, 2009 i was driving my 2005 chevrolet impala on highway 10 in tawassen british columbia heading east bound. i accelerated from a stop light and was traveling at approximately 40 mph when my driver and passenger airbags deployed. i had not struck anything with the vehicle, nor had the vehicle been in any prior frontal collisions. no mechanical repairs have ever been done to the vehicle, and no parts have been modified aside from basic maintenance (brakes, rotors, oil changes, etc.). luckily, me and my passengers (2) sustained no major injuries (only light minor) and i was able to safely pull the vehicle to the side of the highway. i am filing this in america because i am an american citizen and the vehicle is registered to me in the united states. i have filed a claim with my insurance company and with the manufacturer (gm, chevrolet). gm/chevrolet are having problems with jurisdiction between gm canada and gm usa, and have yet to investigate the issue. i am writing this to help me investigate the issue and potentially save lives. thank you *tr

Tuesday, 1/27/09, while driving on a local country road to work at 6:15 am, vehicle headlights and other exterior lights went dark. dashboard lights stayed on, but other exterior lights went dark for 8 to 10 seconds. same thing occurred again monday morning, 02/02/09. no dimming or warning, lights just went off and i was driving in darkness. 02/03/09 took impala to gm dealer to run diagnostic. they determined problem with the multifunctional high/low beam lever switch (this unit also houses the cruise control, windshield wipers, and directional light controls). est for repairs $735.00. 02/07/09 had the unit replaced at another garage for $435.00. i kept the defective unit. have since done research to find other people reporting this same problem occurring on other impalas ranging at least from model years 2001 thru 2005. in some cases the headlights stayed on, but they were unable to switch the headlights between high and low beam. i feel this is definitely a safety issue. i contacted gm customer service to relate what happened as i believe this is a very serious problem. i feel that due to the high potential for accidents involving injury or even death, this multifunctional lever switch should be "recalled". *tr

9/29/2006 i purchased a used 2005 chevrolet impala from mission automotive and an eagle warranty. on 1/31/2008 the car had a "coolant" problem or over-heat problem of which i took it immediately to the certified chevy. dealer. eagle warranty sent an agent to look at the car after i paid $600 to have it torn down. i also incurred a rental car during this time. the problem was diagnosed by the chevy dealer as an "engine coolant" problem. the agent from the warranty concurred and would not pay for anything. i have that report. the chef 2005 impala operators book states the cooling system in your vehicle is filled with dex-cool engine coolant. this coolant is designed to remain in your vehicle for 5 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. my car was purchased with 84,460 miles, the defect occurred at 96,542 miles. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy impala, currently with 22,320 miles. at my oil change and tire rotation, (~20,500) i was informed by repair place that they would not perform the tire rotation as i would be needing to replace the tires soon. i asked why they were wearing so fast- i was told, they noticed it on many impalas- premature tire wear between 18,000-25,000 miles. ~ 15 months ago, with only about 13,000 miles, when i had an oil change done i was informed me the engine was leaking oil from the rear of the engine, i should take it to the dealer for repair. the dealer had to replace (under warranty) several seals/gaskets- oil pan, drain plug, oil filter, plus replace the drain plug. the car is sometimes hard to start and have to hold the key in the start position, and/or lightly press the gas pedal to start it. about two weeks ago, i grinded the starter. sometimes the car will start roughly and immediately stall, or will stall the first few seconds as i am backing out the drive way. dealer about this they told me i was using cheap gas and to use a better brand, but i always use "brand" gas, i even use fuel injector cleaner dealer later told me i needed to have the fuel injection "flushed" with their system for $199, plus tax and charges, hearing it was not good for the vehicle, i declined. i have also noticed a "clunking/bumping/banging" noise when turning, especially hard turns. my brakes need to be replaced, the front brakes are starting to make a thump when braking, and yesterday when braking hard, i heard a squeal noise, (rear?). fuel gauge sometimes rapidly fluctuates, when driving, and at times when accelerating,(though not concurrent) i hear a "swoosh/gargling" sound. i was accelerating too hard. the fuel gauge will swing as much as a 1/4 tank when driving before recovering to the correct position. gauge shows low fuel level, low fuel light comes on, i only needed 10-12 gals to fill it (~16 gals). *tr

I own a 2005 chevy impala. the high beam headlights started going out a year and a half ago around july or aug. 2006. around 75,000 miles was when the problem started and i now have 96,000 miles. at first i was able to fix it by switching back to low beam and then could switch back to high beam and they would work. in feb. 2007 i had the car into the dealer to replace the blower fan and told them what was happening. i explained that when the lights were about to go out i could hear a buzzing in the satellite radio, like a shorting noise. first i was told that i had to bring it in when it happened so they could check the problem. the only issue was that i drive 40 miles each way to work and it would happen in the middle of the trip. when i went back to pick up the car i was told that it was a multifunction switch and it was about a $500 part. i decided i could deal with the situation and have held off on getting it repaired. last week i got in my car to go home from work and i didn't have any high beam lights at all. you can make them work if you hold the lever back. *cn

I own an 05 impala we have had the headlight fail on us about 6-12 times we will be driving down the road and the headlights will go out i have tried running with the switch on and they still go out its has even happened to me on a curve i just about put the car in the ditch ive asked my dad witch is a gm certified mechanic about it and there's not a known problem that he knows of i would like this fixed before i do go in the ditch and my family is with or i get a call from the cops that my wife has smashed the car there is a problem and gm should have to fix the problem before some one is killed from it. *jb

I purchased a vehicle from bill wink chevorlet under the assumption that it was a quality used vehicle. as soon as i drove it off the lot, i noticed there was a problem with the way the vehicle veered and stopped. i took it back to the dealer to have it looked at and was told that it was ok. i repeated this several times and was told the same thing. finally i had enough of this car and attempted to trade it back in to the dealer who offered me very little for the vehicle. so i went to another dealer and was at that point told that my car was once and enterprise rental car and had been involved in an accident prior to my purchase. i have two young children and i don't not want this car if it had been involved in an accident. i contacted several people including the owner bill wink himself and was unable to reach a resolution, which brings me here. *tr

There are times when i am driving at night my headlights will go out. i usually can get them back on. it is scary when this happens. it has happened in rain storms at night and there is oncoming traffic. i have also had a wheel hub that has been replaced when my car was only 1.5 years old. i was told there is no recall on this and i can't find one. i had to pay to replace the new part on a fairly new car. i have the old part in my trunk. *jb

Clunking/banging noise felt in steering wheel, gas and brake pedals when turning right or left and sometimes when going straight on a rough surface. taken to dealer three times for repair. the first and second time lube kit was replaced on steering shaft. the third time, owner was told that the whole steering shaft would need to be replaced and that the part was being redesigned by gm and would not be available for six months or more. owner was told that car was safe to drive in the meanwhile. owner was told that there was a bulletin regarding this issue. owner filed a complaint with gm. *nm

Found the right rear seat belt connection twisted where it mounts to the car chassis. it does not appear to be mounted in the same manner as the left rear seat belt connection. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on normal road conditions, without any warning signal smoke started coming from under the dash board and noticed the a/c blower had seized. the contact pulled over and with police help disconnected the a/c blower fuse. the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined over load current to the blower motor, the control module and the 30 amps fuse. a police report was taken. the vehicle was taken to a dealership who replaced the blower, control module and 30 amp fuse holders. the contact expressed concern due to the lack of warning signal in the presence of a serious electrical failure.

We purchased a 2005 chevrolet impala from a dealer on march 16, 2006. on march 21, 2006, we were traveling down a 2 lane highway at 45 mph. the traffic in front of us stopped suddenly. i applied the brakes and heard a loud pop. the brake peddle then went to the floor and i hit the van in front of me twice before i was able to turn down a side street and let the car coast to a stop. our insurance adjuster came out the next morning and took pictures. the car was sent to a body shop to be torn down. gm was notified of the problem with the brakes. the body shop was told not to touch the car until gm could send an inspector to take a look at it. the inspector finally came out and retrieved the information from the black box and took pictures of the brake linkage system. he asked if we had found any parts in the floor under the steering column after the accident. we told him no. gm then took 5 months to finish their investigation. we were not allowed to allow anyone to touch the vehicle until they were done. they came back to us and told us that they were not responsible and that the brakes had been tampered with. we were all set to go after the dealer when my husband decided to look at the brakes himself. when he did, he found the "missing" part the inspector had asked about. the part was visibly broken. gm has laughingly offered us $2,000.00 for this incident. my husband and i sustained more than $2,000.00 in medical bills. this is a complete joke. in addition to the brake failure, neither one of our air bags deployed even though we hit the other vehicle straight on twice. there has been no recall on this brake part or air bags. *nm

Airbag light keeps coming on. sensor is being replaced, but now dealership says it's the wiring under the seat. the cost to repair is $550! this is a gm certified vehicle warranty with 39,000 miles...car has 40,200 miles. *jb

Rear window molding loose will not stay in tact after repair, delayed crank-hold key in ignition for a few seconds before starting then at times it wobbles then cuts off,electrical shocking, going over humps or turning there is clunnking noise, passenger side feels a lighter weight when operating,intermittent chuggle or hesistant when in light acceleration,on star system comes on automatically when key in ignition and the push is not pushed to activate,car only had 5600 miles at time of purchase and now has 11300 only had the for 5 1/2 months,engine make a whirling noise when accelerating from light start, transmissions is now starting to hesitate as if it shifting, when a/c is on and sitting in vehicle the car mumbles and stops when a/c is turned off. i've saved allm paper work from services performed when problems occured and will be taking the car back in again mon 7-24-06.also have a reference number on file with gmc concerning these defects.on star mailed me a notice concerning system alert this week. i have a 2005 chevy impala base model. had about 15 or more failures on the aspect of delayed cranking.dealer still cant solve the issue to keep me from having to repeatedly taking the car in for inspection and service as well as resolution. i purchased the car dec. 15, 2005. *nm

I have a 2005 chevy impala. about 2-3 times weekly, my car will not start properly. i turn the key to crank the vehicle, and it turns over without firing up. sometimes it may do this one time, at others it may do it 4-5 times. it is very irritating, and sounds horrible. i am not sure if this is damaging to my vehicle in any way or not. i have taken it to the dealership about 3-4 times since i purchased it. they have told me that there is nothing wrong with it. they say that gm has installed a chip in the ignition that will cause this to happen. i do not believe that is true, and cannot get a response from gm. i have sent them emails, and have gotten replies but nothing that helps. i would appreciate it if you could give me some help of any kind. perhaps you have heard of this problem already and know of a solution. thanks so much. *jb

Traction control system failed on my vehicle. the failure turned off my anti-lock brake system and my traction control system at two inopportune times. this failure has twice in the past few months. it first occurred at the end of december during a snow storm. the second failure occurred a few weeks ago while driving through a rain and hail storm. both times the vehicle was taken to the dealership to be fixed. the dealer replaced a faulty speed sensor. my car is about a year old and two speed sensor have already failed. i'm upset at the fact that we purchased the car based on its safety features and twice now they have failed, as i mentioned earlier, at the most inopportune moments, where we were relying heavily on said safety features. *nm

On 3/30/2006 at 1715 hrs a 2005 chevy impala police car was traveling on a gravel road in rural ogle county, illinois when both front air bags deployed, the car never made contact with anything, there are at least 30 pictures to the car and the roadway. since the 30th i personally have called general motors about my concerns involving the rest of my 2005 squad cars, i've called every day since the 30th, with no response, i'm concerned that there is a defect in the air bag system that gm is avoiding the incident, i need some help in getting this resolved. *nm

When in drive car rolls backwards even on slight incline, also rolls forwards in reverse even on slight hill or incline, have taken it to a dealer and they said this is normal of these cars. *jb

Fuel line on vehicle do not match parts catalogue causing mismatch. parts are not made available by oem unless you purchase a new fuel line assembly. two separate dealers informed me that the vehicle could not have the parts that my car had. repairing dealer is now pinging me with a major repair bill to repair the component. vehicle fuel filter is not serviceable unless you take it to a dealer based on input from dealer. *jb

Car was running in my driveway while in park. i went in the house because i fogot my cell phone. about two minutes later the car crashed through my fence and i ran outside and jumped in it as we crashed through the garage door. the car had to be in park because the door opened from the outside and the wheels were locked so it drove straight. it has now been at the dealership for 20 days and nothing has been done. gm hasn't been any help and my insurance cannot touch the car until gm inspects it. my rental runs out in 8 days.

No crashes no incidents, just driving down the road and the speedometer and temp gauge went haywire. speedometer would not read or register. understand that this is a common problem, that chevrolet acknowledges. this is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed by the gov.'t. *tr

The speedometer just stopped working, the transmission shift hard but when you shut off the engine and start it back up it stops shifting hard, and the car stalls. *kb
