2004 NISSAN Titan

Replaces TCM twice now in a month I can hear noise coming from ECM and the column shifter won’t stay in gear plus the tuck keeps stalling while I’m driving on high way and steering wheel starts to make noise and locks up each time truck stalls out at excessive speed still recall issues

My brakes began to fail. I took my truck in for new brakes and found out I need rear axle seals. It appears that this is a common failure.

engine light states passenger airbags not working, took to nissan dealer in redding, ca and made complaint and they stated they would not fix it for free. After many complaints and disrespect they agree to fix it times one. Within a month they stated they will not fix for free we woould have to pay for it, this truck has never been in accident so I do not know why not working. Isn’t this a saftety issue?

We purchased our Titan in March of 2004. The brakes first went out in April of 2004. They went out every three weeks after that until at 11000 miles that was the last draw. Nissan told us they could not fix the vehicle, because they had already replaced the whole braking system. They have had the Titan since August 7. It is undrivable. They settled in a written agreement with me through the Autoline and a week later backed out. They agained agreed to pay off the truck and 45 days later I have to make a another payment on the truck because they have not done a thing. If I don’t pay my credit gets a mark. The Colorado State Lemon Law protects who again.

Tranny cooler lines leaking and replaced,A/C switch not working, master switch on locking system needed replacing, brakes needed replacing roughly every 3000 miles starting at 4,725, front tires were adversley affected due to brakes not working properly at 17,000 miles tires needed replacing, CD needed replacing,front end shaking on 8/29/05 and continues to be a problem with dealer saying they cant detect anything wrong with it, 2 defective valves in tires needed replacing, burning smell under dash, and MORE, what will happen after warranty runs out? I will be stuck with a $30,000 truck with BIGGER non warranty problems!! Nisaan refused to do a thing about it. They feel this is not a lemon truck. This is why we bought new, so we wouldnt have the repair bills, now we have a high payment and who knows what kind of repair bills after warranty runs out! Ron Bouchard’s in Fitchburg Mass refused to help in any way either. Our advice? Stay away from Nissan, they do not back up their products!

The drivers side door will not latch during cold weather.they no there is a moisture problem in the latch assemble but they do not know how to reapir it. I am using a rope to hold the door shut.

Problem with Nissan Titan 2004-We were traveling on 01/08/06 in our Nissan Pickup truck w/approx. 28,000 miles, when attempting to brake, the vehicle began swaying violently out of control, the brake pedal went to the floor and we proceeded to turn 180 degrees facing north on the shoulder of the southbound lane of the NYS Thruway. We were towing our Jayco 23\’ travel trailer; the trailer jack-knifed and hit our vehicle. NYS Police called a tow truck because brake pedal went to the floor and vehicle was not driveable.In the fall Nissan sent a letter to truck owners regarding a \"brake judder\" condition extending the warranty period. Upon receipt of this letter, we requested that our local dealer address the issue; we were told until we experienced the \"judder\" problem, they would not address it. Since that time, we have had our tires rotated, oil changed, and NYS Inspection in December. Nissan was aware of an existing problem and had ample opportunity to repair it! We are so very lucky to be alive!Contacted Nissan Corp Headquarters for assistance with rental car, towing expenses, etc and were informed that nothing could be done to assist us. They informed us that a factory rep would inspect vehicle on 02/02/02 – almost 20-days after incident. Local Nissan dealer could not inspect vehicle.There is no recall! On 8/26/04 a slight wobble was noticed when I started to brake. The problem gradually worsened, which prompted me to take the Titan back to the dealer ship for servicing. At that time I was told that the rotors were warped. The repair order included 2 # 40206-7S000 rotor disc brake, 1 # 41060-7S026 pad kit and 4 # 41005-7S000 bolt. On 11/26/04 my Titan was back at the same dealer ship for the same problem, this time the mileage was 9,119. The repairs included 1 #41060-7S027 pad kit- disk, 2 #41014-7S010 member- torque, 4 #40135-7S000 bolt, 2 #40135-7S025 boot kit-front, and 2 #40206-7S000 rotor-disc brake. All work covered by warranty. Upon receiving the truck I was told that a new kit system was put on and that would correct the problem. On 03/15/05, Titan was back at the same dealer, for the same problem. Approximate mileage was 14,965. On 03/10/05 9:45AM EST, the same day, Titan received an appointment for servicing, and Nissan Corp. in California (1-800-647-7261) was called and informed of the problem. I gave them my vehicle information and a brief description of my problem, as well as the vehicle repair history. I was then given a file # and transferred to another department. After a brief hold, the operator can back and said that due to the wait time (longer then 12 min.) I would be contacted on 03/15/05, as well as the dealer ship where the vehicle was being serviced. A day later, no truck and no return/follow up call from Nissan Corp. Cal… Next on my agenda will be a letter, certified mail, return receipt requested to the manufacturer. Followed by a call and a letter to the Consumer Protection Division of the Maryland Attorney General\’s Office.

On 13 August with ~1700 miles on the vehicle we were towing a travel trailer (~6500lbs), the pickup is rated and advertised to tow 9500lbs. About 120 miles after leaving home the rear differential seized. The nearest Nissan dealership was ~50 miles away. That dealership paid to have the vehicle and camper towed from Cedar City, Utah to St George Utah, where the dealership was located. Nissan has made no effort to provide any transportation or offered to make any arrangements to get the Titan pickup back to Las Vegas, NV where we bought the vehicle and live.Nissan (corporate) has not contacted us once to inform us of the plan of action. When a representative was contacted, through our efforts, no solutions or assistance of any kind was offered. No acknowledgement that the product may be defective and a fix was on the way was made. The representative was very smug and conceited in her response. When asked about recoupment of car payments for the length of time the vehicle has been sitting at the dealership waiting for Nissan to decide to ship the replacement parts, the representative said they were not authorized to do that. If the car maker is not authorized, then who is?The Planet Nissan Dealership in Las Vegas has offered no help in any way. When transportation of the repaired vehicle back to Las Vegas by flatbed tow truck was requested, Service Manager at the Las Vegas dealership refused. The Service Manager also refused a loaner vehicle, a rental car at our personal expense was offered.The vehicle has been awaiting a complete differential replacement for almost 3 weeks with no indication from Nissan that this has any priority of effort.After doing some research on the Internet, it has been found that several rear differential problems are happening with Titan and Armada owners across the US. Nissan dealers claim to have no knowledge of this. FRONT BRAKES HEAT UP AND WARP ROTARS. MAY 20 WILL BE 3RD TIME AT 11000 MILES. NO RECALL YET.

Bought the truck new in February 2004. Since that time I\’ve had nothing but trouble. The brake pedal was making a whooshing noise when the brake pedal was released. They looked at it and said it was one of three parts and that they would replace all three. The major problem is the engine started making a pecking noise and the gas mileage dropped to 12.5 mpg. The dealership took the truck in on march 22, 2004 and they still have it today April 8, 2004. They don\’t know what

Automobile has an automatic window down and window up feature on both the front passenger and drive side. There is no driver up safety switch or if there is it does not work. Have called the dealer and they are not aware of any up pressure switch. I have a 3 year old and if he or any child or an adult where to hit the driver up button and have any part of their body out the window it would crush them as you cannot stop the window from going up. I have tried and have not been successful to stop the window from going up with pressure applied. I have also called Nissan direct with no response.

2004 Nissan Titan at 60,000 miles. Replace rotor disk 3 times due to brake system not compatible with the weight and performance of the truck. Replace front and real differential seal due to fluid linking. My complaint is the tale gate door is too heavy for my wife to use the truck. When the talegate door open, the door needs some muscle to hold it open, like wise close. When my kid stand next to the door, without enough muscle to support the door, my kid’s head will be smash. I like my wife to be able to use the truck. I talk to the dealer, there is nothing they could do, I call Nissan corp. there is nothing they want to do. All Nissan titan 2005 and up has an easy talegate door opener.
I will be interested in Class Action when an accident happen as a result of the talegate door.

2004 is the first model year for the Nissan Titan. I decided to purchase the Titan based on Consumer Reports reviews of other Nissan vehicles. It turns out that I found two missing bolts which were never installed in my Titan. The bolts connect the front of the bed to the side of the bed which is significant if you are using the utili-track anchors. I didn\’t realize that my vehicle had missing bolts until I tied something in the bed of the vehicle and the tie down came loose while driving. I was very concerned so I contacted both my local dealer and Nissan Consumer Affairs in Gardena, CA. Both told me that this is the only vehicle which they have seen with this problem and they would install the bolts. I expressed my concern about the safety of this particular vehicle as steps during assembly were skipped and quality assurance did not catch these issues. I pushed for a full inspection of the vehicle but I did not get one. Nissan Consumer Affairs basically said that I have a warranty, as I find problems they will address them. I am really disappointed. I hope I don\’t find any more defects while driving down the freeway. I don\’t know what else I can do at this point.

My 2004 Nissan Titan has been having periodic complete brake failure without warning during normal driving conditions. This as occurred 7-8 times. It started about 25,000 miles, currently at 34,000. Took the vehicle to the dealer on 8-1-09, dealer reprogrammed the computer, said it had something to do with the ASB and VDC controls and that this would fix it, yesterday on 8-22-09 it happened again after normal driving as I was exiting the freeway, very frightening! When the problem occurs and you shut off the vehicle and restart, the brakes are back and seem to be working fine, they can go for a while with no problem, then one day they will just not be there, pumping the brake gives little brake effect and a noise emits from under the hood, a strange sound I have never heard comes from the vehicle before, brakes will go to the floor and will not stop if held, have to pump like crazy and resort to emergency stopping methods such as e-brake, downshift and rubbing tires against curb or driving into soft sand to stop vehicle. I went online and found out that this happening to many other people with Titans and Armadas (same exact vehicle mechanically). This is very dangerous! This vehicle is not safe for the road!

Evaporative canister defective which causes fuel to spray onto persons body while filling vehicle with fuel. Part has history of failing every 10 k miles. Part failed at 7 k miles out of warranty.

2004 nissan titan brake system problems. customer states the brakes are prematurely wearing, which causes steering problems and vibration. *kb the consumer began experiencing problems with the brakes at 12,000 miles. the dealer replaced the rotors due to them being warped. when trying to stop the vehicle, the pedal went all the way to the floor. yet, the brake system did not slow or stop the vehicle. nissan has attempted to fix the problem a number of times. the mechanic did notice the brake pedal going to the floor and the booster simultaneously making a noise. *jb

The consumer refuels the vehicle by placing the pump handle in the fixed position. after about 2 gallons of fuel has flowed into the tank fuel overflows onto the ground. *nm

The parking palm does not engage if the vehicle is rocking forward or backwards.*mr a a result the vehicle rolled backwards into a parked vehicle. *nm

I have taken my truck in twice now for the brakes and the carpet being soaking wet from the truck leaking somewhereand the passenger airbag light not turning off. they resurfaced my brakes and said the leak was from the a/c. they also told us about the brake problem with the 2004 titans and that they would put us on a waiting list for the replacement parts. we are now taking it in again for the same problems. the floor is soaking wet and we have not ran the a/c. the brakes are shaking violently again, and not to mention the new problem of the cargo light turning on by itself when it is parked. i only have about 8300 miles on my truck and i only drive 5 miles one way to work. these are major problems that are occuring in such short time of having the truck.

Sensor for the air bag is defective. when a passenger sits in the seat, who weighs approximately 130 lbs. the air bag becomes inactive. consumer contacted the manufacturer, who said that this was the way the vehicle was designed. on eof consumer's friends with the same vehicle make, model, and year had the same problem. *ak

Passenger seat airbag sensor fails to recognize my 125 pound wife. light stays on indicating the airbag will not deploy in event of crash. *ak

I have a consistently reproducible problem with the seat belt sensor for the passenger seat. 150 pound individual sitting in the passenger seat fails to engage the air bag (it is indicating that the air bag is off) about one-third of the time they ride in the vehicle. by moving in the seat and sliding forward, the sensor registers the individual and engages the air bag (shutting off the air bag is off light).

The passenger side air bag has malfunctioned. as a result, the sensor light stayed on. the consumer is concerned the passenger side air bag will not deploy upon impact. the dealer states the part is on a national back order. please provide additional information. *la

The sensor on the passenger side airbag will not activate with a 120 lb passenger. *ak

No crashes or injuries. the advanced airbag system on our 2004 nissan titan disables passenger airbag when a 132 pound female is properly seated in the passenger seat.*ak we have been able to duplicate this problem in every 2004 nissan titan at a local dealer's lot. *ak our dealer states 125 pounds on the seat sensor itself is necessary to enable the airbag, claimed there was nothing wrong and refused to run any diagnostics on the system. the nissan website claims 47 pounds, consumer affairs states 60 pounds is necessary to enable the advanced airbag. it is unclear if this is pounds of pressure exerted on the seat sensor itself, or if a person of this physical weight, seated properly, would have an airbag. my 132 pound wife is exerting about 110 pounds of weight on the seat itself.

Passenger airbag remains turned off with 170 pound passenger. sensor too far forward and if sitting normally doesn't activate, have to move forward on seat to activate. *la

My 120lb wife does not activate the seat sensor for the airbag in my 04 nissan titan. while it doesn't happen 100% of the time, it has occurred repeatedly. the dealer checked & confirmed that the system is operating normally and stated that they could do nothing more. at this point my wife is riding in our truck without an airbag. while she does wear a seatbelt, i would like to have the comfort of knowing the full safety system is operational in the event of an accident. research and other complaints posted here show taht this is not an isolated problem. *mr

While driving for 20 minutes and i’d say 25 miles per hour, my truck just stalls the electrical system working, but no engine power! the truck just stop running. in my attempt to restart the engine the starter will turn but no start. i am now stranded in traffic and if it was not for good samaritans who help me push the truck to the curb. this happened twice in the last couple of days. i’ve replaced my battery and it died for second time! thankfully i was on the city street both times. both times i waited awhile tried to start up with no success, but it started only afterwards getting a jump start!? the battery is brand new and the hope of finding the answer is websites at lease in the hopes of some answer and directions. eve since replaced the battery i’

There was a recall on my airbag/seatbelt and it since has gone out after being fixed, but they said that it was past the warranty. i had thought that airbags are life of the vehicle parts.

The vehicle brakes frequently go out and start to shake and make a springy noise when you push down on them and the brakes lose power and cannot be applied safely. this may lead to a crash and nissan cannot diagnose this with certainty so intervention from nhtsa is needed. i have learned that there is a possible faulty delta computer sensor and/or brake booster that nissan cannot problem solve very well. this problem could or has led to crashes when you cannot apply the brakes at speed. it only happens when driving and the only way to stop it is for the vehicle to be pulled over to the side of the road and shut off and restarted. please put out a recall for this so that way there are no crashes that can injury my family or others.

When stopping sharply to avoid hitting another vehicle traveling less than 20 mph which made a sudden turn in same lane brakes failed. this caused a near fatality. this is the 7th time brake failure has occurred in this vehicle despite numerous repairs costing thousands of dollars--thankfully nobody has been killed or maimed --yet. at this point and having reviewed similar experiences by many owners and noting that fatalities have occurred as a result of this defective vehicle/design flaw i would appreciate advice .

Ever since i have owned the vehicle, the fuel gauge would never read full but stop at 7/8 of a tank. not a big deal but last night my gauge read between 1/8 and 1/4 tank and i ran out of gas on a main road at night. the fuel light never came on and normally does when i am low on fuel. doing research on this i found that there is a recall for 2005-2009 titans for this same exact issue but not 2004. reading the full description of the recall, it 100% reflects the same issue that i am having. i called nissan and spoke to a representative and she says my vehicle does not apply to any recalls. she said to take the vehicle to the dealership to have them look at but for them to diagnose, they will have to drop the fuel tank which will cost quite a bit. i looked on other forums and this seems to of been a very common issue with 2004 model year but why it was not included in the recall is beyond me. this needs to be resolved because now i have no idea how much fuel is actually in my tank and i would rather this not happen again. i got lucky with the spot i was in where my truck stalled on a very busy road and did not get into an accident. i have attached the original recall notice for the 2005-2009 model year.

Was coming from daughters game and i made a left turn outta parking lot all of a sudden a hear a noise and then grinding. i inspected brakes and underneath vehicle i noticed fluid all over front diff . i got underneath grabbed my drivers side axle and shook it . it came apart and was coming out of diff. a month earlier i noticed rear diff had oil all over it and oil was leaking out of rear pinion seal and both rear axle seals , due to axle breather failure. i have never went off-roading or beat this truck . i am also experiencing gas shooting back out of my fuel tank filler tube . i have had my vehicle to local dealer 2 or 3 times regarding this issue and it seems as if it's a guessing game . i have spent over 300 bucks there and my problem still exists . then they guess again and says its something else. i know for sure this vehicle has had a rear end or rear diff already put in with very very low miles , with 1 st owner . i am being told that my last issue with front axle was c clip holding axle in failed and may have ruined my front diff , i traveled no more than 2 miles before i heard noise and i'm looking at a 1900 part not including labor .

My husband was involved in an accident august 17th 2016 resulting in his death. investigators can not figure out what caused the accident but his vehicle caught fire. we're not even certain the airbags deployed. when i looked at the truck after the accident there was no proof the airbags had deployed and cause for fire is unknown. updated 01/10/17*lj updated 09/19/2017*js

3'rd brake line rupture. all the connectors under or around bottom of frame appear rusted. i'm getting afraid to drive it. it seems these lines should have been made from a component that would not rust. i can't be the only one with this issue

Driving and 4 wheel drive kicked out. took to the shop and they said pass axle c clip came off.

The brake light in my vehicle came on while i was driving home on the highway 235 (md) road. when i applied the brakes it made what seems to be grinding noise. the brakes went soft luckily the i was near a shoulder and avoided a near rear end with another vehicle. i was close to a gas station. i pulled into the gas station with the grinding noise. i went outside to see if there were an brake leaks or any brake issues and noticed nothing. i turned on the truck and the brake light was gone and the brakes were normal. i took the truck to my dealer and sheehy nissan stated it was the power brake vacuum booster. nissan dealer stated they had a notice on this issue. due to safety concerns. i had it fixed - well $1,428.45 later. the sad part - this truck only has 15647 miles and lightly used. seems that there are similar issues with the brakes on nissan titans on the nhtsa website. invoice of the services performed are uploaded. did remove personal information per instructions on the nhtsa website.

Driveshaft failure, leading to differential lock. while driving down the highway, the driveshaft came loos and fell out of the truck. no one was behind me so no one was hurt! the pinon yoke that slides onto the pinon gear shaft of the ring and pinon differential assembly using a spline shaft. the pinon nut has completely unthreaded off the pinon shaft,but there was no damage to the threads on the spline. as soon as the pinon nut began to back off it would all the pinon gear to move against the ring gear in a forward and rearward motion against the shims. there is a wide range of complaints of the 04 titan forums that have indicated the rear differential and drive shaft problems and that nissan has covered some of them under a good will warranty. if they are knowing about all these problems and covering some of them why are they not recalling this. if anyone would have been behind me they could have been killed if this went through these window. sd lyons (5083369393) has seen this happen and a woman been paralyzed for life as the drive shaft went through her window and took off her roof and slice her head. how many more people before nissan will have to recall this!

Rear axle seal leaks are a recurring problem on this vehicle. i have had mine replaced 4 times at various points over the past 12 years and they are leaking again. it has been 12 months since the last repair, at which time i also replaced the rear axle shafts in an attempt to resolve the issue once and for all. fluid leaking from the rear axles directly onto the wheel hub, tires, brake pads and discs and all surrounding areas, saturating them completely, is a significant safety concern, in my opinion, and i believe is grounds for a safety recall. i believe both braking ability compromise and fire hazard are potential results of this issue. as leaks develop, they become both static and dynamic, which is to say that fluid leaks while driving and while parked. large puddles of diff fluid form under rear wheels after being parked for any significant amount of time. nearly all of my driving is done on-road so i don't see this issue being related to off-road driving damage possibility. regardless, this safety issue needs to be addressed and rectified by nissan.

Incident 1: i was driving through a parking lot and applied the brake. once the brake was applied, the brake pedal pushed back at me as if the abs system had been activated, and there was a loud sound that i know to be caused by the abs system being used. luckily, when this happened i was about to pull into a parking spot and it had a curb. knowing that my brakes were partially compromised, i slowly entered the parking stall and needed minimal braking. i noticed that my emergency brake light, vdc off light, and my slip light were all illuminated. at this point i turned off the vehicle and walked around it looking for any evidence of a brake fluid leak or anything out of the ordinary. i didn't see any brake fluid or any fluids or contaminants on the brake discs. i returned several minutes later and turned on the car and it performed as normal for about a week and dismissed it as an unusual one time fluke. one week later, i had a very similar incident detailed below. incident 2: again, i was going through a parking lot at less than 10 mph, and was about to pull into a parking space. this time, it did not start until i was pulling into the space, so i had no warning that i would have a hard time stopping. luckily, i had a curb at the end of my parking space. once i felt the kick back i immediately pressed on the brake as hard as possible and slowly came to a stop a few inches away from the curb. i then saw the same warning lights the same as before. dealership visit: at this point, i knew it wasn't a one time thing and took the truck to the dealer later that day. they told me my delta stroke sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. i have not had it fixed yet, and do not know if this is a permanent fix. i have seen several others with this same problem, just more significant. definitely will be a long time before i feel safe driving this truck again.

Nissan has at each service bulletin on this issues. tsb # ntb05-118a 2004 – 2005 titan and armada; outside door handle cable freezes; door difficult to close in cold temperatures nissan is aware of this problem as well as many many other owners after doing a google search. stationary happens every night when temperatures fall below 30 deg

All of the recalls are done, but the system keeps appearing recall incomplete and i need to ship my car overseas.

Front left axle slid out from differential. the retaining c-clip on the axle was intact but did not retain the axle. this has the potential to cause a catastrophic failure of the front differential. this was found when the vehicle was stationary. the vehicle leaked fluid on the garage floor, upon investigating the leak the failure was identified. otherwise the vehicle was operating normally with no indication of the failure.

This seems to be an issue for a lot of people so i'm officially reporting. i've owned this car for 16 years. in that time, i've repeatedly had issues with the braking system at different times starting in 2006, but definitely in 2009. i've brought it up with dealers in both saco, me & wake forest, nc. each time they cannot find a problem. finally after the last time the dealer said there was a bulletin about the computer needing an update. which cost multiple hundreds to install. this install definitely decreased the incidents of multiple brake failings while driving, but didn't completely fix the problem. i'm just now learning that it's a faulty delta stroke sensor in the brake booster and is a known problem to nissan for the titan and armada models. i never got the postcard about the class action lawsuit, but it wouldn't have helped since they never identified the issue or maybe even hid it from me during my visits. because of this i'm out of the window for the lawsuit and am still having problems. my '04 still only has 78,000 miles and multiple other people are having this same issue. nissan just had to pay 25 million to a family that was hit by one of these affected vehicles, but still will not claim there is an issue with the delta sensor and brake booster. please make them fix this issue to save lives and pay for something they know has been an issue for a very long time. the booster can be reset and the problem goes away, but to do this you have to stop the car with the brakes fluttering and not responding. then you shut off the car for 10 seconds and restart the car. this usually fixes the issue, but it can return at any time. usually when you've already been driving for awhile. started back in 2006, but got worse in 2009. computer fix lessened issue, but still occurs at random times.

I was diagnosing a metal on metal sound coming from my 4 wheel drive nissan titan and found that the half shaft was coming out of the front differential. i called a nissan dealership in utah and was informed that this was a huge problem with early model titans. the tech said he had repaired many titans with the same problem. he said it was due to a c clip that fails and allows the gears to get chewed up in the differential. i looked online to see if there had been any recalls on this and found there had not been. i then called nissan titan and they informed me of the same and guided me to this website. this seem like a huge issue that either not been reported. this seems like it would leave people who bought this for snowy areas or offroading in an unsafe situation when their 4 wheel drive fails or locks up. in certain areas in utah, we are required to have chains or 4 wheel drive in certain areas. with the failure of a c clip and the gears getting chewed to pieces this seems like it would cause huge safety issues, not to mention costs to consumers over a unsound design.

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 armada, titan, infiniti qx56 and model year 2005-2006 frontier, pathfinder and xterra vehicles. the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) assembly contains an engine control module (ecm) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. the ecm relay may allow silicon vapor to form and, over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ecm relay contact due to arcing., i have owned this truck since 2005, why was i not notified by nissan of this recall, and what can i do to correct this dangerous situation?

In july 2016, i appealed to nissan north america for paint defects on my truck. the paint continues to peel off . my truck in patches and has had no other repairs. i did a presursory search online and found numerous owners with paint delaminating,peeling off and chipping.i filed a complaint with nissan and they denied my claim stating that it was aattached to a past warranty, but it clearly is a larger issue. i looked at the club nissan forum, and carcomplaints website and others are having a similar issue.

Break sign appears on dashboard while driving the vehicle. strange noises come from brakes and breaks does not apply properly. it happened many times in the past and i pull over safely, turn the engine off and turn the engine on break sign is gone and breaks start working ok. then it happens again and again. very unsafe to pull the car on side of busy highway, then turn the engine off and on.

I went in to get a truck on july 11th... they had to get the truck started by jumping the battery that they said would be replaced. while rushing us without offering a test drive insurring the truck was sound and mechanically stable. we then drove off in the 2004 nissan titan and all the lights on the dash came on shortly after. vrd abs and brake as well as check engine light. the brakes then went out on us as we reached out home. the next day we informed them of what happened, they said it was just water on the brakes to give it a day and see what it does. it happened again and when we took it back they said the mechanic was gone to come back. thats when we noticed the cara registration was for another vehicle and started to wonder if they had taken the car to emmisions at all. check engine light was om since we left the lot. before our first payment i spent $900 on parts had roadside called 4 times and replaced the battery. the truck didnt last to the first payment. completely lost all braking power. this truck was taken to a mechanic that told us it would not have passed emissions when we got it because the history on the check engine light showed it was only cleared and not addressed.

The drivers side rear axle broke while traveling 70 mph up 75 in ky with my whole family in the truck on the way home from vacation it looks like the axle seals started leaking and then it locked up for a split second and lost all ability to pull itself all the axles and seals have already been replaced multiple times and it's about time for nissan to start taking the hit instead of the vehicle owners

The brakes in our 2004 nissan titan failed while driving down the road, thankfully we were not going fast and were able to pull to the dirt on the side to stop. there was no warning. we had no deferred maintenance on the truck. brakes were mechanically perfect.( two mechanics verified this ) once we turned the truck off and back on the brakes worked again. found a class action lawsuit in la for this exact issue. contacted nissan, they denied knowing anything about this issue. no help. towed the truck to the dealership, they denied knowing anything about this chronic problem. turns out its a delta stroke sensor part of the abs system. nhtsa you need to order a recall, this is a public safely issue. there is no warning before failure. please protect the public get these trucks off the road and fixed before one of them plows into your family. so saddened by nissan, never again will i trust this company.

Cruise control will stop when hitting a bump fuel spills out whilst trying to put gas into the truck. certain times the brakes want work until you put the truck in the parking position.

Whilst driving in bad weather i had my 4 wheel drive engaged. i was driving 5 miles an hour on a straight gravel road, when i started hearing a grinding noise. before i could get stopped safely to see what the issue was there was a large thud and my entire truck shook. it was then pouring gear lubricant out of my front differential. after taking the truck apart to find the damage i discovered the axle shaft (nissan part no.: 38220-8s11a) had been stripped of its splines on the end. the part looks as if it was machines perfectly cylindrical. the metal shavings from the shaft slightly marred up the seals so i replaced the seals and shaft, spider gears seemed okay to reuse.

For the last several years i've been fighting an evap problem. it started 5 yrs ago when it wouldn't let me fill it with gas. then months later it got worse n worse where it would take 20min to fill tank. i've replaced purge vale 3 ties in last several years and it works great then 6 months later back to same routine. there needs to be a better fix to address this issue n i know it's old but there's thousands of people dealing with this issue

There is a recall on the gas gauge for the 2005 nissan titan but my 2004 nissan titan has been having the problem with the gas gauge registering more and sometimes less gas than is actually in the vehicle for the last ten years but it was not included and the dealer refused to make the repair. how can i get this issue repaired by the dealer? sometimes the gas gauge will drop all the way to empty when it has more than half a tank of gas.

While changing the rear differential fluid, the magnet/drain plug had a broken piece of metal attached to it. i can only assume it's part of the gears inside. i have no idea when the piece broke but i have read that other titan owners have had similar issues. those gears are a big part of the truck and should not break easy. my truck is 4x4 so i'd assume the gears would be reliable. i bought my truck used with aprox 275k miles so not sure when part broke.

My fuel gauge reads 1/4 tank when i have no gas in the tank. it will go back to partial full when i fill up but then it will show 1/4 tank after a period of driving. there is no rhyme or reason or accuracy. why was the 2004 not recalled for this when every year afterwards was recalled for this problem.? i have contacted nissan and they will not respond.

I noticed in may, 2016 that a paint spot about the size of a quarter on top of my right front fender was missing. i have noticed that my paint seems to be chipping along the edges. when i was loading up my truck this weekend, i noticed that the paint on my roof is chipping all along the rain gutters on both sides.

Two cracked exhaust manifolds. at times i an getting exhaust fumes into drivers compartment. i understand this is a wide problem with nissan 5.6 l v-8s and a big problem with the titans. my local nissan dealer est. repair at $3,507.50 and he told me the it is not uncommon for both to fail at the same time. nissan customer support will not do anything. i started have problem at 100.000 mile i am at 124.000 now. from what i have been told this is a design defect. i think this should be made into a recall. my truck looks like new from the outside.

I'm filing a complaint for the missed recall on the nissan titan! the design of the rear axle of this vehicle causes a rear axle seal leak. many consumers reported this problem and complained and nissan or this government has not issued or demanded a recall be made mandatory for this rear axle seal issue?! seems a little odd to me as this could cause major repairs and serious injury or death of this fails while out on a public roadway! i unfortunately am a nissan titan consumer and have experienced the same issues as everyone online complaining about them leaking and going out. i contacted nissan and will be pursuing reimbursement for this repair!

The exhaust manifolds on this vehicle are extremely prone to cracking. there are hundreds of reports online of them cracking so nissan is certainly aware of the issue. they cracked on my vehicle and exhaust gasses leak into the passenger compartment so this is definitely a safety hazard.

I backed my car out of the driveway and proceeded approximately 100 yards toward the entrance to my subdivision. i applied brakes to stop. the brake pedal pulsed as if abs was active and went nearly to the floor. the road was dry yet the abs acted as if i were on ice. i pumped the brakes multiple times. each time the pedal went to the floor with abs pulsing. i was able to pull to the side of the road and stop before entering the intersection. a warning light was illuminated - i don't remember if it was brake or abs. i placed the vehicle in park and turned it off. upon restart there were no warning lights and the brakes functioned normally. i parked the vehicle pending diagnosis. there are numerous issues documented online pointing to the delta stroke sensor. it seems that a problem with this sensor compromises the function of the entire brake system.

While driving my 2004 titan, i noticed a banging and clanging sound. i thought it was a limb stuck in my tire. upon further inspection, i noticed oil on the inside rear rotor, passenger side. i was already miles from home on a hunting trip. i only have 79,000 miles on the truck. after hunting, i limped my truck about 30 miles home, travelling about 35 mph, while it is banging and clanging, sounding as though the wheel is about to fall off. i made several stops on the way home to make sure the wheel was still secure. i feel blessed to make it home as the wheel started to bind when i hit the driveway. after talking to several mechanics, they have seen this issue alot. the repair will cost somewhere between $3,000 to $4,000. apparently the axle seal blew without warning and now this has chewed up the gears inside and destroyed the housing. the mechanics simply suggested to buy the entire rear axle and replace. they also stated the original design was piss-poor. of course, this happens after placing $2,000 replacing the exhaust manifolds that were under warranty for 80,000 miles and 10 years old. mine were 11 years old and the truck had 79,000 miles on it. the local garage said there was nothing they could do to help. it was more than 10 years old. i would hope there is something you could do to make the manufacturer liable for this expensive repair. thanks for your time.

This is a finance vehicle saw the 2004 nissan titan really like it for the work that i do and my husband agreed to partially financed it. the first driving off the car lot the service engine light came on when we got home i called back the dealer to let him what had happened, he said to bring it back the following thursday to see what was going on, during the same week the two front windows fell down into the slot couldn't come back up so we had drive in the dead of winter with the windows done. finally we drop the pickup off at the dealer, it was there for 2 full weeks before we got it back, thinking everything was fixed .a few days after the engine light came back on we called them again they in replied telling us they can't do anything about the problem because the vehicle is a used vehicle.oh my god. now i have put over a $1000 in parts and now the mechanics are telling me it needs a new engine. please i need help because i have to be paying the finance company for something i cant use.

Trying to accelerate from a stop at crossroads to go right onto a roadway with high speed vehicles approaching. my rear end made a loud bang and back end seemed to lock up or skip and couldn't get going - nearly rear ended by vehicles on roadway while trying to enter as couldn't get going. took to nissan dealer and apparently rear end spider gears gone. 71k on vehicle, changed rear diff. fluid to nissan recommended type at 35k, no towing, no hard driving, and less than 1 hour total lifetime use of 4x4.

When applying brakes with out a warning ,brakes made a spring popping noise and total brake pressure loss,brake light came on ,after pulling over and checking for oil leaks or loose parts nothing was found when re starting vehicle brake light reset and brakes work normal.

Pulled out of the gas station by our house and all of a sudden my brake light came on and a weird noise would sound anytime i would tap my brakes . pulled over restarted the car and everything was fine again and still is !

When driving my rear end making loud knocking noises.. it is not gernaded yet but it only a matter of time. havent been driving it be cause of further ware of saftey issues.

I was on my way home from work when my low fuel indicator light came on; my gauge showed approximately 1/8 remaining. this was normal, and the point where the low fuel light normally turned on. the next morning, on my way to work, the light turned off and the needle showed just over 1/8 tank. this was also normal for the light to switch on and off as the level teetered around the switch point. a few miles into my trip, the needle jumped to around 1/4 tank, which was not necessarily normal, but i had no reason to question the level based on the previous accuracy of my gauge. halfway to work i lost power, and had to pull over on a busy highway. my truck would not start, although it still showed 1/4 tank remaining. i did an internet search on my phone for /2004 titan fuel gauge problem/ and immediately got rashes of hits for descriptions exactly like mine where their titans showed 1/4 tank remaining, but ran out of fuel. after walking a 4 mile round-trip to the nearest gas station and back, i put gas in the tank, and drove to work. after a quick internet search i found a recall nhtsa# 10v074000 for 2005-2009 titans (mine is a 2004) and nissan service bulletin el08-013a for 2004-2009 titans. i was told by the dealership and nissan america that my vehicle is not included in the recall, and will not be covered. i am fine with a fuel sensor failing after 186,000 miles and not being covered, but not if identical vehicles (2005-2009) with identical hardware are being recalled and recognized as having safety issues. the internet is full of people complaining about this issue on their 2004 titans, and they need to be included in the recall.

Emergency brake and rear brakes got covered in gear oil because the rear differential seal leaking. it started spewing all over the place and when i tried to come to a stop it took way longer than normal forcing me to swerve to miss a pedestrian and hitting the curb and a bush. this should be a safety recall because the differential leaking on the brakes is definitely a safety concern.

Brake light came on when brakes were applied. pedal was soft and made a grinding noise. brakes worked but not very well. took a video of it with my cell phone. this has happened multiple times. i took it in to the dealer several years ago and they reset something. they said it may or may not fix the problem. it didn't. they said the repair would cost $900.00. i think it should be free. this is a potential hazard. turning truck off and on fixes the problem but not permanently. *tr

The abs light, vdc light, slip light and brake light illuminated and the brake pedal went to the floor accompanied by abs actuator sounds. the braking effort did not slow the vehicle effectively. recycling the ignition switch returned the brakes to a satisfactory condition. after my wife drove the vehicle home, i scanned the abs for fault codes: c1179. i am an ase certified master automobile technician with 28 years of experience. this device measures the travel of the brake booster and is a necessary component of a vehicle with stability control (nissan calls it vehicle dynamic control [vdc]). this vehicle has done this 4 times in the ten years that i've owned it. the frequency of failure is very random, duplication of the fault is extremely difficult and it occurs without any warning at all.

I had the dealer inspect the vehicle. they said both exhaust manifolds had cracked. they said there was a previous notice from nissan and they should be replaced. i was not notified and the dealer did not contact me. now they said too much time had elapsed to take advantage of this free replacement. this is clearly a design defect since nissan had them replaced on some vehicles. this is a safety hazard because cracked manifolds can cause a carbon monoxide leak or set a fire while driving fast. the cost to repair is near $1000 for the parts plus labor to install. there must be other people who had this safety problem so the government should force nissan to fix all the vehicles. mine has only 86000 easy miles on it. *tr

I was driving down the highway at normal speed around 55-65 in houston texas. a car pulled in front of me and i had to put the brakes on quickly. when i applied the brakes the pedal mushed completely to the floor making a grinding noise and the vehicle barley slowed down. i made my way to the side of the road as the brakes made an loud grinding noise, and lost brakes completely. when i finally stopped(with out getting hit my cars) i depressed the brake and there was no response. i had to turn the truck off and as i sat there i heard a noise under the dash, like something reset itself. i start the truck up and moved slowly forward to see if i had brakes and suddenly they were working again. this truck has done this a million times and it is just by luck that i have no been involved in an accident when the brakes go out. the dealership says there is no recall and nothing he can do without a thousand dollars and then he isn't sure it will fix the problem. i am stuck with this truck and it continues to loose the brakes. the passenger airbag light has been on since 2011. *tr

The vehicle showed 1/4 tank of gas, was running fine and suddenly shut off while a young girl 18 years old was driving home from dropping off siblings at school. at 55 mph there was no power brakes, no power steering while driving on a two lane road heavily traveled by 80 ton gravel trucks. nissan knows this is a common problem and has had a number of titans experience this issue caused by a faulty fuel level sensor. they did a tsb on all but 2004s even though they have the same part. nissan required me to take it to a dealership for nissan diagnostic ($93) even though the dealership already told me this was an issue and nissan would probably cover it. the nissan regional rep ([xxx]) reimbursed the repair but refused the diagnostic fee she required me to get. nissan denies responsibility for recalling these vehicles which they know can just shut off while driving. this is a very serious safety issue and needs to be recalled immediately!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The front driver side axle is popping out of the front differential housing. this should not be happening especially after it has already been fixed once. there is an obvious defect in the nissan titan front final drive assembly starting from 2004 as there are many similar complaints on the internet on many of the nissan titan forums. i will be bringing the vehicle in for servers to the dealer and hopefully they will assist in cost of this major malfunction. again, this should not be happening to this vehicle as it does not get much heavy use. no towing and hardly ever uses the 4 wheel drive. *tr

Randomly, several time a week..and then not for months..and then the symptom reappears. while driving the truck, the brake light will illuminate. if i depress the brake pedal, while the brake light is lit, the pedal moves to the floor easily, the brakes shudder and the feel of the power brake system is gone. the stopping power is dramitically compromised. the fix seems to be to pull to the side of the road. turn off the engine and restart the engine. the brake light goes off and may remain off for days, the brake feel and function are fine. then randomly, the problem will reappear. i can't find a code for it. a lawsuit was filed and settled in california for this issue..see: the nissan brake / delta stroke sensor class-action lawsuit was filed in the u.s. district court for the northern district of california - banks et al v. nissan north america, inc. et al. believe the manufacturer should recall and repair. scary when this occurs on a highway and the 5600 pound truck is traveling 60 mph or more. sincerely. *js

I was driving my 2004 nissan titan from work when coming up to a stop leaving the long driveway to enter the main rd i pushed on the brakes and the pedal dropped to the floor and began vibrating and making a grinding noise like when you step on the pedal very hard and the abs comes on, except the brakes did not engage. the truck did not stop. i flew through the stop sign in front of other coworkers leaving a building to the north. the road only went left and right so i could not make the turn so i had no options and went across the road, hit the curb, went into a field where a mesquite tree stopped me. i put the truck into park and shut it off. when i restarted it the brakes are back and working like nothing ever happened. i left the truck there and went home to begin my normal google searches and what's the cause and how to fix this problem myself. i've found hundreds if not thousands of online complaints on this very issue. the most recent notes are of a class action lawsuit that nissan has agreed to pay because of faulty parts that cause their vehicles not to stop. they where quoted that they will not issue a recall unless ordered to do so in numerous news articles. please process this recall before someone else gets hurt or killed. please help. *tr

Attempted to stop while traveling down parking garage ramp. when brake pedal was depressed it went to the floor and the audible sound of the anti-lock brake system (abs) pump cycling. at this point there was no braking power. pedal was lifted and brakes where applied again. again, the pedal dropped to the floor and the audible abs pump could be heard. at this point driver had to decide to crash the car into a concrete column to prevent larger accident into payment booth. driver continued into a concrete column at approximately 15 - 20 mph and crashed. airbags deployed. vehicle had to be towed from scene. after accident, mechanic repairing vehicle informed the driver of technical service bulletin (tsb) 452131 pertaining to this same issue, "antilock brake system (abs) code c1179. intermittent brake pedal supposedly goes to the floor. tech has not experienced". *tr

While driving, red "brake" dash warning light suddenly came on. truck's brakes then had limited braking ability & were hard to use. they pushed a ways down, had crummy stopping power, made grinding noises, and a vibration when trying to use them. i was able to finally stop. i shut off truck and restarted it. the light went off and brakes act normally. after braking again a short time later, the light came on again and had the same problems. i once again was able to reset the light by shutting off the truck. this is very dangerous, as it just suddenly happens and your braking ability goes to "poop" when driving. after this happened to me, i see there are many complaints on-line in various forums about this issue which has not been addressed by nissan or a government recall. the dealer claimed they fixed the brake problem by replacing the brake pads and rotors. however, a week later, the consumers nephew was driving when the brakes failed again, and he drove into a ditch. the consumer returned to the dealer, where they claimed the brakes were not working properly and the vehicle needed a new pump/delta stoke sensor. updated 02/23/15

Transmission fluid diluted with anti -freeze from faulty radiator /tranny cooler nissan needs to address this problem it is a stall issue , a safety issue , its an expensive repair ,and not uncommon. *tr

At 55,000 miles the rear axle seals failed on my 2004 nissan titan. the seal failure caused a leak which saturated the rear brake apparatus and reduced its holding ability. i reported this to my local nissan dealer and it was repaired under warranty. i was told that an upgraded rear axle was installed to address the root cause of the premature seal failure. at 138,000 miles the rear axle seals have failed again despite regular fluid changes, and the rear brake apparatus is once again soiled with gear lube. i believe this constitutes a safety hazard and should be addressed as a recall. the dealer refuses to repair under warranty and states that there is no recall. based on my research, this is a very widespread failure on the nissan titan and there are thousands of other titan owners in the u.s. with the same problem. *js

Front differential failed. many reports online suggest a common failure. cost over $2100 to fix. parts have been redesigned so manufacturer is aware of the problem and will only guarantee a full differential replacement. *tr

Since the vehicle was new the fuel gauge has never shown the correct reading on the fuel in the tank. it will never register "full" and will run out of gas when it still shows 1/8 of a tank left. i complained to the dealer and they replaced the gauge with another one just like it that also doesn't work properly. *tr

Nhtsa recall 10v074000. (nissan). the recall should apply to 2004 model titans. curiously it applies to the same make and model for years 2005-2009. in my case the fuel gauge never worked well (purchased new) but at least the low fuel warning gauge light came on. on october 21, 2014 the gauge completely malfunctioned. it stuck at approximately 1/3 of a tank and the vehicle ran out of gas (no light indicator) without warning. at 70 mph on a tollway, the vehicle lost all power. given the significant risk to driver health and safety posed by this type of malfunction (which was curiously addressed for 2005 and thereafter) and the extreme risk of crash that it causes, the recall should be extended and not exclude the first model year of this car. without power steering and brake control at 70mph, i was lucky on this occasion. others may well not be. *tr

I've been having problems with a leak in the roof. i always noticed a damp musty smell after it rained but never found anything other than rear sliding window was damp until after a heavy rain i made a sharp left and caught out of the corner of my eye water flying out of the sliding window track. i've tried looking to see where it was coming from but can't find the exact location. let me point out i never use the rear window. after months and yrs of frustration i siliconed the entire rear window and took off brake light and did that too but still getting water. i've read online its very common problem with no remedy yet. *tr

I have same problem as everyone else with cracked exhaust manifolds starting around 65000 miles. expensive to replace so i have no choice but to listen to a horrible exhaust leaks. next is the rear axle seals first around 65000.replaced 2x. after talking to nissan tech who is a friend apparently its a very common problem. the axle tubes tend to warp causing a leak all over tires n brakes and eventual failure of gears inrear pumpkin if not caught. just waiting for it to happen again. brakes have always been a problem. every 7000 brakes n rotors r shot and need replacing. pedal always has a mushy feel when u occasionally need to slam on the brake. goes all the way to the floor even when brakes r good. *tr

Brake pedal became mushy. brake light and abs light came on. coasted to a stop, turned vehicle off and restarted. lights went off and brakes worked properly again. this is approximately the sixth time this has happened in this truck. brake pads and rotors are new. it first began happening approximately six months ago. this is dangerous and nissan should have recalled this vehicle due to this issue, which they have been aware of since 2004. *tr

My 2004 nissan titan with 81k mile has 2 cracked exhaust manifolds. both passenger and driver sides have crack just in front of last cycle on both sides. my truck was running fine one night. the next morning my truck was sounding like it had an exhaust leak. send my truck in to have recalls address and it was confirmed by nissan mechanics that both sides are cracked. was told it would be about $3000 to replace both sides. many people have reported this issue and nothing has been done. *tr

I was driving up an icy incline on a side road with the 4 wheel drive engaged and the front differential failed. the vehicle lost traction and almost hit other cars and pedestrians. this is the second failure to occur on the front differential on this vehicle. *tr

While using 4wd my front axle popped out of the front differential. luckily i was offroad and going slow. after researching the issue i see it is a common complaint and can lead to catastrophic front differential failure ( if retaining clip is ejected and gets between gears) causing the front end to temporarily lock up. again luckily i was going slow. but this is to common an issue and something that can cause a lapse in control of the vehicle, this needs to be addressed. *tr

Rear axel seals leak causing rear differential oil on wheels, rotors and brake pads. could lead to a complete brake failure on rear two wheels due to oil. *tr

My 2004 nissan titan has had numerous instances of the brake warning light coming on while driving at different speeds. when this happens, the pedal goes to the floor and the brakes make a loud grinding sound. several times i have had to go onto the shoulder of the road to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of me. once i get the vehicle stopped i can turn the engine off and the brakes reset and work correctly. however, these incidents are occurring more frequently now and sometimes i have to restart the engine several times to get the reset. this is a very critical safety flaw and i have read many other titan owners having the same problem. nissan needs to recall these trucks and fix the problem before there is a serious injury or a fatality. i bought this truck new and it has been serviced at proper intervals. *tr

This will be the 3rd rear differential on this truck. the first blew on warranty at approx 10k miles. now with 56k miles the 2nd dana rear axle has blown. i don't off road and tow only a motorcycle trailer. this is obscene, time consuming and very costly ($3,630.00) to fix and days waiting away from home. this isn't right

When trying to backup the truck the column gear shifter moved into reverse but the vehicle was still moving forward. fortunately i didn't run over anyone but it could have easily happened in a busy parking lot. the gear shifter was moving up and down into every position but it was continuously engaged in drive. i drove home and parked. the shifter is still moving up and down; the gear indicator shows that the transmission is in "d" - drive but the vehicle is rolling as if it was in neutral and can't be started. there is a nissan recall no. ru403 but nissan says my truck is not affected.

The air bag sensor went on i reset first time last about 2 months then came on again. i reset again and last 2 weeks and keep coming back on i keep resetting still on. i took to dealer, i was told due to the age of the vehicle i will have to replace the air bag. i don't understand this my corolla is 21 years old and has 191000 miles, have never had any air bag issue. i contacted nissan north america, inc. and was receive "nissan carefully considered your request during a review of all of the available facts pertaining to your specific situation. nissan is unable to offer financial assistance with the repair of the airbag/airbag module due to the vehicle being outside of the new vehicle limited warranty". *tr

When to stop as entered freeway entrance, brake pedal dropped about 1/2 way and no initial brake power. then vehicle dynamic control kicked in and got limited braking back as vehicle shuddered and twisted slightly. restarted and worked ok. also happened july 12. happened again on 8/17 while towing. can't trust the brakes!! other times brakes work fine. *tr

Sudden brake loss while driving at about 30mph. it has occurred before and seems to have increased after a fuel pump replacement. i'd guess 10 times in the last week now, i've known about the issue for some time and was reading about the class action lawsuit which i believe only covered the residents of california and the comments suggested to file a complaint here. it's the same thing, the emergency light comes on while driving and when apply brakes there is no pressure and an awful grinding noise. once you come to a safe stop, turn off and back on, and the problem is gone! previously, it had been weeks and even maybe months in between but now it seems to have turned in a daily task. any update on recall or nationwide class action lawsuit would be appreciated. *tr

I have been experiencing a brake / abs problem with my 2004 nissan titan. on several occasions as i was driving, the brake light would come on and as i attempted to push the brakes under normal braking conditions, i have almost not been able to stop the truck in time. it felt as though the abs system is activating and brake pedal is fluctuating, vibrating and grinding. i brought it to the dealership on 7/17/14 they said it was a programming issue. i paid about $100 for them to upload a new program. they told me the new program didn't take and then told me the delta sensor in the brake booster was most likely the issue. but unfortunately the entire brake booster assembly must be purchased since they don't sell the delta sensor separately, and the cost is $950 to replace. i called and filed a complaint with nissan consumer affairs the next day 7/18/14. today 7/24/14, i finally received a call back from nissan consumer affairs letting me know that they were unwilling to help me with this problem. i was told that because it' out of warranty, nissan north america will not pursue any further action in regards to my case & considered the matter closed. *tr

Driving down a main road when i felt an odd vibration coming from under my feet. pulled over immediately to see that my axle shaft has pulled out of the differential. after getting the vehicle home i researched online to find hundreds of the same problem. the front differential on these trucks is and will always be a safety issue until they decide to recall the problem. nissan definitely knows this differential is not strong enough for the engine. needs to be recalled before more people get injured! *tr

Vehicle would start to make loud noise when braking, and then brakes would stop working altogether. the first few incidents in the past year because we were driving at slow speed we could coast to a stop. turn off engine, and then turn back on. problem went away until next incident. we just completed a factory repair costing just under $1400 and it was to replace a mechanism that was failing to deliver the signal, or fluid (i don't understand this very well enough technically) to make the brakes stop. the parts were over $600 and labor also over $600. while vehicle is 10 years old this type of problem seems to be a defect issue and not wear and tear. i've read that this is a reported issue with nhtsb so i wanted to file also. *tr

I'm glad to hear that nhtsa is finally doing something about nissan titan brake problems. i own a 2004 nissan titan with brake problems. i have experienced no brakes at all when the traffic suddenly stops in front of you. i have complained about these brakes to the nhtsa, nissan, etc, to no avail. the problem is very intermittent and you cannot simply take it to the dealer and show them the problem. it has something to do with the electrical system. when the brakes fail to work, you pull off the side of the road and turn the truck 's ignition off and back on again. the brakes are then re-set and working fine. my son discovered this temporary fix solution. it is a serious, real problem for nissan titan and armada owner's. it happens to our titan two or three times a year. many owner's complain of the same trouble online. i'd love to hear that nissan takes responsibility for all these vehicles and solves this problem for their loyal owners. *tr

While taking a exit ramp at approximately 45 mph brake light came on and when the brakes were applied due to stopping traffic pedal went to the floor with a grinding sound. i had to swerve to the right to avoid the car in front of me and went past 2 cars before stopping in the emergency lane. i turned the engine off and when i restarted the light was gone. reported this to the nissan dealer ....they stated they have never heard of it before.....there are hundreds of reports on the internet and also filed with nhtsa. according to the dealer they will do nothing until a recall. i certainly hope no one dies from this as the class action lawsuit that will follow will be very embarrassing to nhtsa, dot, and nissan as you have all been made very aware of this.... *tr

This is the second time in over several months that my driver side drive axle for my 4x4 has pulled its self out. it was fixed once on my dime and is now going to be fixed on my dime again it is a dangerous failure that could cause my suspension to lock up an rip my wheel off then leading to a serious accident. it needs to be addressed and the nhtsa has done nothing to pursue this. another problem that nissan will not cover is the rear axle seals that blow out due to a faulty design which may also lead to a serious accident, they will not address any of these issues under a recall an there are thousands of people that are suffering from these issues from 04-010 for the axle seals and model years 04-08 for the axle shaft pulling out from the 4x4 causing serious damage to internal and external parts. this needs to be addressed an the nhtsa is doing nothing about it. *tr

Rear axle seals on my nissan 2004 titan have been replaced 4 times in the last 2 years, i just had them replaced and the new seals are leaking. this is due to a poorly designed axle by nissan; of course they will not stand behind their poor design. the bulletin put out by the car manufacture is to replace the axle's being both sides in the rear at a cost of thousands should nissan do the work. i find this very disturbing as do thousands of other 04, 05, 06 model year titan owners. the real problem is if gone undetected by some, the rear can lose all of its oil causing the rear to lock up! this could and would kill people if the accident were bad enough. the second issue here is and i quote, ?c'mon nissan, stand behind your product and recall what could be a fatal situation here? unquote?. as much as i like the titan, this issue has sickened me to the point that i will shop elsewhere when the time comes. talk about passing the buck! i have seen the axle removed and rust pits form under the seal causing the leak. it is as though the metal used is from china. *tr

Imagine driving down a mountainous road in idaho state. you are going down a hill in a pick-up truck pulling a camper. all of a sudden your vehicle goes into limp mode - it won't rev over 1000 rpm. you look to pull over but there is only a small shoulder. vehicles are skidding trying to avoid an accident as your vehicle is disabled and only partially off the road. after fixing the problem, i realized the truck should never have gone into limp mode. it is a critical design flaw with the vehicle. i was put in harms way for no reason. all vehicles use to have the engine speed controlled via mechanical linkage or cables for the gas pedal. very few failures existed with this design. today gas pedal run by a wire that sends an electronic signal to the vehicles computer. the computer in turn evaluates the gas pedal position which then sends a signal to the fuel injectors and throttle body to control the engine. the critical design flaw comes into play when vehicle designers combine other electronic sensors on the same circuit as the gas pedal. non-critical components like gas evaporator sensors, power steering sensors, air conditioner sensors. when any of these non-critical items experience an electrical short, the vehicle goes into limp mode potentially putting drivers in harm's way does this recommended solution fix all problems related to the gas pedal? no it does not. it is a lot safer. i believe nhtsa should evaluate & assess this critical design flaw. i have been a controls engineer for 28 yrs and this design is not safe. please refer their model a60 series manual. nov 2003 edition, rev-april 2004, pub no. sm4e-1a60u1. section b , pages ec-423 thru 427. i would find it satisfactory if nissan redesigned and fixed all vehicles by separating circuits with critical engine components from non-critical components. *tr

On 6/20/2008 i went to a nissan dealership to resolve a recall item to replace rear door wiring harness, recall # r0616. the recall was performed and in the process the dealership also replaced lh-pretensioner, seatbelt and body harness, and reset airbag warning light. on 6/03/2013, the airbag warning light came on and i went to a nearby nissan dealership and was advised that i would have to replace the lh-pretensioner, seatbelt and body harness, i informed the service advisor that this work was already accomplished once and that i had the documents if he needed them. the service advisor then stated that since the work was accomplished five years ago that even though the parts are a safety item that they were no longer under warranty, resulting in a 574.30 charge of which i paid. my contention is that this is a safety item, and thus should not have a warranty restriction, i am not sure if the truck is even safe to drive. *tr

During routine recall for ecm module the dealer informed me that both exhaust manifolds are cracked as this has been a recurring issue with this model vehicle causing exhaust fumes to enter the cabin and also cause poor performance with the vehicle. dealer quoted this as a $3200.00 repair and will not assume any portion of the repair. dealer "beaverton nissan" has informed me that this issue is due to the poor quality of the exhaust manifolds any possible faulty welds on the product combined with material that is too thin to start with. the presence of exhaust fumes in the cabin while idling and/or driving is a severe safety hazard. i have opened a case with nissan north america and have been advised by three independent mechanics to park the vehicle until it is safe to drive. *tr

Transmission cooler hose leak caused transmission failure. there was a service bulletin on this, but i never saw it or was made aware of it until it happened and i googled it. the spring clamp fail. this should be a recall because something as simple as replacing the 2 spring clamps with screw clamps would save a ruined transmission. seams to be a big issue and could cause fatality if failure happens on interstate. *tr

I was traveling towing a 33 ft camper. usually tow at about 62 mph. all of a sudden the truck cuts out then turns back on and "bucks". my lights on my dash light up like a color blinking christmas tree. my speedometer goes all the way to 140 mph, my rpms max out, my fuel gauge goes up and down along with the temp gauge. furthermore all the gauges and warning lights flash or move in no form or fashion. steering gets stiff along with the brakes because the truck shuts off. i controlled the truck to avoid crashing in between the on and off periods. this happened several times. thought it was wiring from camper or brake controller. however, over the last few weeks from about mid sept it has progressively gotten worse. now i can't go out of the driveway before the truck starts acting up. there is a bad accident waiting to happen. in my past experience with nissan is they are reluctant to say anything is wrong and to fix things. i have had enough go wrong with my truck from brakes, electrical, and rear end unit. just last weekend 20 oct 12 i took the truck on about a 15 mile round trip and it acted up again. between july and sept 2012 the truck would start the shut completely off in parked position. it still does that now too. the truck is now parked until i figure what is the problem. i don't have mega bucks to fix it! someone said nissan has a computer recall but i have not been notified and i contacted a dealer but they have not called back. its been 3 days now. they said the description i gave them matches the recall?????????? *tr

On may 3, 2012, i saw my side mirror lights were not turning off, even while driving. i scheduled work for my truck for may 5, 2012. my truck was parked at my place of employment from around 6 am to 2 pm on may 3, 2012. when trying to leave work i tried to start my truck and it would not turn over, tried to jump start with no success and even had a tow truck company attempt to start the truck. after the truck was towed to local shop the truck started up with no problem and the mechanic said since its not showing any issues that it did before there was nothing they could do. on may 5, 2012 i took my truck in for the electrical problem and they also fixed a recall with the ecm relay. on the same day around 6 pm in the afternoon the truck would not start again. the truck was towed back to the nissan dealership on may 6, 2012 and on may 7, 2012 the technicians at nissan contacted me stating it was my bcm which was in the same area as the ecm. i had to pay about 600 dollars for a new bcm. i believe the bcm went out due to the recall work that was performed earlier. *tr

The wiring harness, in the back door has broken, because of a nissan engineering problem, both the harness and wires have broken, which according to nhtsa the front passenger side airbag will not deploy, resulting in my having an unsafe truck according to nhtsa, i contacted nissan and was told that the campaign had ended, so they refuse to repair my truck according to the guidelines set by nhtsa. at what point does nissan decide that they can decide which trucks to repair, i have to wonder how many other unsafe nissan trucks are on the highways. *tr

The vehicle displayed intermittent chemical type odor through hvac system, 3 dealerships unable/unwilling to confirm, or seek direction from corporate as to method for resolution at my suggestion/request. i waited one year to allow for vehicle to "off-gas" interior odors from materials used in manufacture, had to insist that dealer staff document the concern which is yet unresolved and denied assistance from consumer affairs department to satisfy health and safety concerns. incurred significant additional expenses to alleviate issue such as in cabin air filter and purchase of ionizing unit; plus missed workdays, transportation, fuel and service and diagnostic fees at dealerships. *tr

While replacing lifetime warrantied suspension which was not honored by nissan or tenneco, i found the rear pinion seal to be leaking severely, and rear axle seal leaking in wheel assembly. possible source of "ticking" noise from differential, which until then i thought were exhaust heat shields. this condition could cause catastrophic drivetrain failure while vehicle is in motion. the fluid leaking from axle seal can reduce effectiveness of braking components. other owners have described inadequate engineering & possible use of substandard differential materials & components along with axle vent assemblies which could create internal pressure conditions that could cause seals to fail. *tr

The rear axle hub seals leaked after the 1st and only pulling ever done with my 2004 (4 x 2) se titan p/p. my vehicle is equipped with " big tow pkg." dealer replaced the entire rear axle. " no" pulling or towing done since replacement by dealer svc. done 12/24/2008 at 85,417 miles. however, a right/passenger seal leak noticed on 08/29/2012 at 152,247 miles. i was told by the regional warranty service manager that the issue had been resolved with an " upgraded better axle system " which would resolve the problem when the rear end was replaced. the rear axle diff. fluid leak is causing periodic braking issues and noises. i am very concerned about safe braking, especially when driving the vehicle in wet weather. needs to be addressed as a safety issue. *tr

Don't know if it's been reported, but alot of people are having issues with the nissan titans (many years) with the exhaust manifolds cracking. i have a 2004 and both of them have been cracked for almost 4 years now. i contacted nissan, they suggested to contact nissan corporate, and pretty much told me i was out of luck. the manifolds are over $850 each, and both of mine are severely cracked, causing engine, emission, and safety/health problems. i have had to replace many o2 sensors, cat's, and mufflers, due to burning up, and have to drive with all my windows down and short trips due to the exhaust filling the cab of the truck. something needs to be done, as this is not only an issue, but a major flaw in the design of the truck. i have had checked out at a local shop, and their exact words were "there is absolutely no flex in the exhaust, so when the engine shifts from driving and revving, the manifolds are the weakest point and therefore crack". something seriously needs to be done or looked into. many nissan titan forums hundreds of people are complaining about the same issue. usually only one is cracked, but i have both cracked. if you need a vehicle to inspect, you can look at mine. i even had the exhaust upgraded to bigger exhaust in hopes of relieving some of the pressure, so it doesn't leak all out under the hood, and that has helped some, but this is seriously an issue with the design and usability of these nissan titan trucks. and, i don't know about alot of people, but i can't afford to spend over $1600 in just 2 parts, plus all the other required parts, when i can barely afford to pay the bank on the truck. *tr *bf *tr

When driving down a residential road, the brake light illuminated for no apparent reason. then, when slowing to turn, brakes shuddered violently and did not feel as if they would succeed in stopping the vehicle. i slowed enough to turn, then proceeded slowly to make 2 more immediate turns before reaching my house. the brakes shuddered and were not 100% effective each time the pedal was pressed. fluid levels are normal, brake components look good. after turning truck off and back on, problem was not able to be replicated. however, after doing online research, this appears to be a known issue that the manufacturer has as yet refused to address, even though it could lead to collisions and fatalities. *tr

Rear axle fell apart while driving. no warnings, or anything. this will be the second rear axle to be replaced at a cost of 3500 per incident. only light driving has been done on this vehicle. no towing, no heavy loads, no anything. *tr

I took my truck in for the service manager at wallace nissan, kingsport, tn, to find out if they would repair the broken wire in the wiring harness in the rear door, i was told by the service manager and by nissan consumer affairs office that nissan would not repair the broken wire, even though the nhtsa had a recall for this problem, nissan told me that the campaign had ended and they would not do anything about the problem, as i recall in the nhtsa recall the wiring affects the passenger side airbag, which would explain why the passenger side airbag has been flashing continuously for about 3 months, i have been in contact with nissan consumer affairs office but they have quit answering my emails to them, all i am asking is for nissan to repair the wiring harness and broken wires on my unsafe vehicle. *tr recall # 06v459000.

Rear passenger axle seal is leaking and is coating brake pads and brake rotors. this should not be leaking especially when this vehicle is not high mileage nor is it driven crazy/recklessly. this is causing brakes to not be as effective as it should be. *tr

On certain king cab trucks, the wires in the harness were routed through the rear doors and into the body. these wires may break due to over bending of the harness as the door is opened and closed. the harness contains wires for the driver seat belt pretensioner and for the front passenger seat belt which is part of the occupant classification system. wires for the rear audio speakers are also contained n the harness. consequence: if the wires for the seat belts and speaker wires break and make contact, there is a possibility that the pretensioner may deploy. if this happens when the seat belt is retracted, it will not be possible to use the seat belt. if one of the wires on the right side harness for the seat belt tension sensor breaks, the passenger side front air bag will not deploy as designed in a frontal collision increasing the risk of a crash and personal injury. i went to wallace nissan, kingsport, tn, on 07/18/2012 and described the above mentioned problem, and was told that the campaign had ended and they would not repair this problem, i explained that the dome lights and the door lock were effected by this flawed design problem,. i am very much afraid that the broken wires will short out and start a fire. *tr

I was pulling out of the parking lot and driving onto a main street when i heard a clunk clunk and the rear end started hopping and i noticed i had no gears. we call ed aaa and had them tow us to a few different places before we ended up at nissan in spokane valley and they put in a brand new rear end. price and labor cost us...$3,583.33. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. the vehicle was included in the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 06v459000 (electrical system) and was taken to the dealer for the replacement of the front passenger side wiring harness. after the repair, the srs light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technician stated the wiring harness on the front driver side would have to be replaced but also stated that the part needed for the repair would have to be ordered. the contact did not hear back from the dealer and contacted them after some time. the technician then advised that another diagnostic test would have to be performed in order to determine the failure because the part had arrived and was sent back. the technician stated that the repair would not be covered under the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

While driving on the road, i pressed the brake pedal to avoid hitting the rear end of another car while it was stopped to make a turn. without warning, the pedal went to the floor and the abs unit came on as well as the "brake" warning light. i had to pull off the road to avoid hitting the car in front of me. the pedal action continued until i could get off the road safely. when stopped i checked the brake fluid and it was at the max line on the reservoir. as a mechanic, i later checked the vehicle for codes stored. it was found to have code "c1179" indicating a possible delta stroke sensor/signal fault. this has happened twice with this truck. luckily, the first time, no one was in front of me. i really am concerned that this type of fault could seriously injure any occupant(s) in either vehicle or possibly a pedestrian. it may prove to be fatal in any case. one possible fix could be to allow the abs unit to be turned off when code "c1179" occurs. thank you for your time. *tr

Rear differential went bad so i had the rear end replaced in june of 2010. in may of 2012 i noticed the rear end leaking fluid all over my rotors. this could cause my brakes to fail. other titan owners are reporting the same issue. *tr

I first heard a "whine" or "howl" coming from the rear end 2 years ago, when i took it to the dealership, they told me i need a complete rear end assembly at the cost of 4000$. i could not afford that, and they said you couldn't rebuild the rear end, because nissan wouldn't release the parts for it. i drove on it for 2 years before it went out on me on the 21st of april, 2012. ive read up on hundreds of complaints, about the rear ends on nissan titans going out, and nissan not having a recall. *tr

2004 nissan titan the rear wiring harness is routed over the frame rail directly next to the tailpipe causing it to melt in the event of an exhaust leak. this happened to me and now i'm stuck splicing wires together as the local dealer in saint john nb want over $1000.00 to replace, this problem seem to be a common one among other owners i have talked to and poses a serious fire hazard / potential accident due to complete sudden loss of all power. nissan canada should be made aware of this (i'm sure they already are) to avoid any legal problems that may arise due to them not recommending an inspection / notice or recall of the rear wiring harness. *tr

Both rear wheel axle seals have failed at 67,906 miles. leaking both sides. caught in time so that rear brakes are not destroyed and rear end/differential not destroyed. this is a known defect affecting this truck prior to 2008. a definite design defect. someday someone is going to get hurt due to rear brake failure or loss of control when catastrophic rear end failure occurs. *tr

Just had both manifolds replaced under nissan warranty. as i was driving away from the dealership i heard a loud pop turning right from the rear of the truck. turned around back into the dealerships parking lot i heard another pop? the service tech drove it around their service area and said my rear differential was going out. nissan has known this has been an issue for years especially in the early trucks years but refuses to fix it under a recall. this is a $3500.00 fix which the consumer has to pay and nissan profits from a poorly designed component. there needs to be a recall on all nissan titans from '04 - '07. *tr

After front differential had failed and would not engage 4wd. took to dealer and replaced under warranty. after 1 1/2 years started to whine and grind again dealership said sorry was out of warranty. 3 differentials in 3 years woohoo a real winner here. *kb
