2003 JEEP Grand Cherokee

Suspension-\\\"Death Wobble\\\"Jeep begins to shake when you hit a bump or at about 40 mph, does not go away until you slow down to about 20 mph or sometimes swerving will help it stop. We have replaced front tires, balanced them. Had an alignment, replaced tie rod and steering arm and also track bar and the \\\"death wobble\\\" is still there. Search all over the internet and seems to be a very common problem with this year, make a model but no one can really narrow it down to one issue. This seems to be a very dangerous issue that could cause harm to the driver/passengers or to others in cars around the jeep when the \\\"death wobble\\\" appears since the driver needs to slow down or swerve to make it stop.

There is either a design or manufacturing defect in the brake rotors/calipers of the recent Jeep Grand Cherokee. The brake rotors have been replaced on three separate occasions in the first 18 months (July 2003, Dec. 2003 and June 2004) since I bought the car in October 2002. Additionally I was informed on February 10, 2005 that the brake pads are thin and the front brake rotors need to be replaced a fourth time. This is no longer covered by any warranty according to the dealer and manufacturer. The dealer, Central Auto Group in Norwood, MA, service manager informed me that there was a design change a few years ago but neither the dealer or manufacturer are willing to absorbe the cost of repairs or to own up to the safety issues associated with this ongoing problem.

While commuting to work Monday June 30, 2014. Both side airbags self deployed while the car was in motion. There was no accident. I am having a difficult time getting resolution from Chrysler / Jeep.

when put into drive vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a wall 20-25 feet away. Brake pedal was depressed and accelerator was never touched during incident.

The airbag light comes on and is continuous and then flashes and beeps. The spring was replaced and is still malfunctioning.

I took my vehicle in for the routine oil change at the dealership I purchase the vehicle. After that day, the vehicle vibrates to the point you cannot play a cd. They are telling me this is how the vehicle performs. I have been to the dealership many times with the same response. I also have taken it to other Chrysler dealership with the same answer, it seems that the answer is the same after they look at the repair history. I also have met with the Chrysler marketing rep twice, and the dealership told me that the Chrysler technical rep drove the vehicle. Yet when I requested a encounter with him they declaim and said there is no technical rep. I also met with the general manager from the dealership twice, sales manager many times, I need this to be look into because I think my vehicle was tampered with, because if it was running like this when I bought it I would have not bought it. The vibration is getting worst. I do have a extended warranty, that I cannot use because they refuse to even look at the vehicle. Their solution was to sell me another vehicle, which I declined because they wanted more money down. Why should I buy another vehicle when I have a new one that they destroyed.

Dealership insisted loud, loud noise from steering column was “normal”. It took me more than 7 months after complaining (i.e. letters/research) that dealership finally agreed to replace steering column once they knew I was correct in proving car had a defect. Now, for the past several months, steering column makes a ticking noise. Just recently, I traded it in for a leased 2005. (didn’t want to go thru same procedure as before). I just learned that this vehicle has already been sold. Hopefully its’ new owners won’t have any problems with it.

Dealer says rotors are warped–no need to replace them now–no safety issue only vibration and steering wheel movement may just be annoying–OK to wait for repairs when I need brake pads in 6-10,000 miles!!!!!!! I have read many Jeep rotor complaints online–suppossedly rotor manufacturer was changed in 2002 and all problems were rectified. Sorry no such —2003 Jeep brakes are only covered for 1 year/12,000 miles–before 2002, they were covered for 3 years/36,000 miles—many people complaining–class action lawsuit pending with Gary Gaifman–www.KGGLAW.com in N.J.

At around 8500 miles the front end and steering wheel shake, and seem to lose control of the car when applying brakes at speeds over 35 mph. The dealer agreed to replace the brakes and rotors at that time (the car had around 5000 miles when I bought it) At 17000 miles the car is having the same problem. I was told by the service center that \’this occurs on this model with stops and go\’s\’. I have a extended warranty, which won\’t cover the costs-about $500.00. I feel these brakes and rotors are faulty and are dangerous. I cannot brake or stop properly. I paid good money for this car and the extended warranty which are both worthless. I have read complaints of many other Grand Cherokee owners With the same problems; including a class action law suit against DaimlerChrysler Corp. Does someone have to die to get these faulty brakes recalled?

Accelerator stuck as I entered my long driveway. Car crashed into retaining wall at end of driveway. My face hit steering wheel and air bag did not deploy. This occurred on 9-5-03 and I do not yet know repair costs.

A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD OF MY JEEP ON 4-24-06. IT IS A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND I ONLY HAVE 71, 000 MILES ON IT. STILL WAITING FOR THE REPORT TO COME BACK FROM THE FIRE MARSHAL. IT MELTED EVERYTHING INSIDE AND GOT HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE PAINT ON TOP OF THE HOOD. TOTAL COST UNKNOWN, WAITING FOR THE ADJUSTER AND MECHANIC TO LOOK AT IT.

Our family currently owns 4, (2002, 2003, 2004, & 2005) jeep grand cherokees, and have owned over 10 in the last 10 years. These are not commercial or service vehicles but rather are personal use vehicles. We are otherwise pleased with the jeeps but jeep division of Chrysler Corporation has 2 well documented and ongoing engineering defaults, both are dangerous. 1st: While sitting at red lights the engine will stall and lunge, if you’re not firmly holding the brake you would easily rear-end the car in front of you. This is an ongoing problem and my guess is, well documented, although jeep admits no problem or responsibility. 2nd: The windows simply fall down into the door. This happened to 3 of the 4 jeeps we own just last week. We’ve had this problem with all the jeep grand cherokees we’ve owned. My son who owns the 2002 has replaced all 4 electric windows and is now on his second replacement tour. To add insult to injury, the failing part is just a small part of the entire window regulator assembly but cannot be purchased except by buying the entire regulator assembly, boy; what a gig! I’m not through — for years you can only buy this replacement part at a jeep dealer, and of course at a shameful price. There are two men in my home town who have established window repair busineses that replace almost exclusively chrysler corporation windows, and particurlarly jeep grand cherokee windows. They will buy the part (from jeep dealers of course) and come to your home or office and make the repair in under an hour for just under $300.00, its $500.00 at the dealer. They laugh and say that their bussineses are almost exclusively jeep grand cherokee repairs. I’ve called, emailed, written letters and cannot get anyone with jeep division or Chrysler corporation to even acknowledge the problem. There must be a document history of this problem and should be some recourse for jeep owners.

Driving a jeep 2003 mich lx tire 235/65/r17 sidewall dry rot, reported to mich they said it was the ozone, as a scientist and an ndt level 4 inspector i was surprised that the person they sent me to address the issue spent less than 10 minutes looking at the remaining 3 tires. the person refused to give me any written report the tires only have 15k on them. michelin will not give me a voucher for 4 free tires i am afraid others will have the same issue the dry rot side wall will blow out and cause a death or several. michelin recalled 1,3 million tires voluntarily but refuses to recall mine. beware of michelin tires.

On friday october 9,2020 approx. 5:56 pm i was coming out of acme parking lot, stationary at traffic light awaiting a green light . all car windows were up, ac on. next thing i knew i heard a "ding" and before i knew it, both air bags deployed , shattering passenger glove box apart, sending debris and plastic in my face. driver steering wheel destroyed. entire vehicle filled with "fire like smell" from dual air bag deploying. no injuries to myself, no one else in vehicle with me at time of incident. no accident of any kind had occurred that would explain dual air bag deployment without any impact to vehicle. i can provide photos upon request. this is definitely a manufacturing defect.

Driver's seat frame/bracket broke in front of driver's seat, allowing the driver seat to lean detach from the floorboard and move backward toward the rear seats. when researching this specific issue, it seems that this is a common issue and is an obvious safety defect. if the driver seat frame cannot hold up to normal use, how will it hold up to the forces exerted upon it in the event of a rear-end collision? this is an obvious safety defect and based on the volume of other consumers that have had this issue, it is unbelievable that action has not been taken to resolve this issue.

Just recently in the last three months front passenger window fell while driving and back driver window fell while driving while it what snowing while my son was in the car. have a popping noise in steering or somewhere in front end. i can't use my accelerate button on steering wheel while it's in cruise because it won't stop acceleration once you press it. i was going about 55 and was trying to accelerate to 60.

I started my jeep, noticed my hatch was not closed, got out while it was running, the second i closed my driver door, my jeep went into reverse on its own, and kept accelerating higher, this vehicle took off very aggressively, luckily my wife was in the passenger seat, she put it in natural, and shut the car off before anything was struck, now due to i believe the rapid acceleration it runs horribly when i put it in drive. this jeep is an 2003 , well broke in and maintained, there's no other reason as to why it "became self aware" i have a lot of vehicle knowledge and this is virtually and unfathomably impossible , please review every aspect of this vehicles complaints as this is very unsafe

Front seat brackets for power seats snapped and separated causing seat to no longer be attached to floor. seat wobbles from side to side especially in curves and turning. renders seatbelts useless in an accident.

Electric door lock on drivers side makes a loud buzzing sound when trying to engage.

Hydraulic cooling fan quit. can run direct power from battery to solenoid and the hydraulic fan solenoid works but does not work when vehicle is running. caused vehicle to over heat and need to be towed off the highway.

The shift cable is rubbing against the fuel line, after 156000 miles it has worn a hole in the line. during a resent vacation i noticed the smell of gas but could not tell where it was coming from. when the car was shut off it would stop leaking. after i was back i was using the car again backing up and noticed a drip drip drip on the ground. as i was only a mile from home i went home and parked and it still leaked a bit until the pressure stopped. i did not think to take a picture of the line after i removed it. i took the fuel line to a shop to have a union put in the line but that is leaking as the fitting is not tight enough. i guess i will need to buy a new line. i have not seen a report of this happening to other jeeps but it is a dangerous problem as it could have caught fire.

Airbag sensor continues to beep

Was driving on thruway at 65 mph, hit a slight seam in the highway and the entire front end began to shake uncontrollably, forcing me to leave the highway immediately and stop on the side of the road. at about 10 miles per hour, the shaking lessened and actually stopped. thinking it was a fluke occurrence, i continued on my way. unfortunately, next time i hit any sort of imperfection in the road, the "death wobble" started again in the front end.

I had new orc module as per recall ro6.part no cbszro65aa air bag light still on comes and goes. had scanned got code p000201 left front sensor failure..i found that the new module on wj models disables the front sensors.they are not needed. help!!!!!went to dealer he was no help.

Jeep grand cherokee recall.it was in motion driving on the highway. occupant restraint control module is ro6 / nhtsa 15v-046 or m35 (12v-527) or n13 (13v-040) i took my jeep to the dealership, they said it was repaired, i believed what they said. i believe they fixed it around 11/07/2016. the seatbelt and airbag came on around 6/3/2017. it is still on today, i do not know what to do about that defect in my vehicle.

I was driving and smelled burning. pulled over on a four lane highway. i then saw smoke. i drove a block away to a safe spot got out of the car and called 911. the firefighters extinguished an electrical fire that started in my passenger side door. they believe the motor in my door caught fire. i had to have the vehicle towed. now i'm at a loss as to what to do. thank god i had just dropped my son off at school so no injuries.

While driving at 55mph in daylight on a dry paved country road, i stepped on the brakes and the car shuddered like i ran over something, and was thrown violently into the other lane, then almost off the road into the trees. on examination, i found the car's frame had failed and ripped away where the right rear control arm attaches to the frame. the control arm mount is on the frame that came loose, allowing the real axle to shift backwards several inches on the passenger side. i live in new york and i expect rust but not to the point of the disintegration of several inches of frame. the sheet metal used for the frame appears to be thin, perhaps 20 gauge steel. the rest of the vehicle is in great condition, and is driven daily by my wife. i am glad i was driving when this happened. i reported this failure to my local chrysler dealer (goldstein chrysler, latham new york) and to the chrysler corporation customer service line. neither offered any history on such a problem. i cannot be the only person to have such a failure, as this is a common vehicle. i will take photos to document what the damage to the frame looks like. i don't know how to upload them. please contact me and i will get them to you. the vehicle is available for inspection.

I was driving about 40 mph on a four lane highway in traffic when my car engine suddenly shut off. the brakes seized up, but i was able to get the car was able to get the car off on the shoulder. after trying several time to restart the car, i called for assistance. by the time assistance arrived, i was able to start the car and i drove it approximately five mile to my jeep dealer. they found that the crank sensor was faulty and that was why the engine had shut down. the cost to replace the sensor was $275; however, because shutting down the engine caused the breaks to seize up, the breaks and calipers had to be replaced increasing the total cost of repairs to $1567. if i had been driving at highway speed when this occurred i would probably not be writing this letter. *tr

While driving north on i-75 from manatee county to tampa to go to work, both side air bags self-deployed. i had the car towed to ferman jeep on sr 54. i called chrysler and was told that the incident had been elevated and that an investigator would go out and call me within one business day. i called the next day and was told that the issue had been escalated and that i would be called within 1-2 business days, meaning thursday. i called thursday and was told i needed to wait until 8pm that evening. no call. i called saturday requesting an update on my vehicle. no call. i called this morning monday july 7, requested to speak with a supervisor and was told that was not possible. i have no update on my only form of transportation and am desperate to understand, if my vehicle can be fixed. i need temporary transportation. i commute 100 miles in this vehicle every day. i need help escalating my case to the proper people. thank you. *js

Vehicle was not included in chrysler recall number j14 for front seat electric heater elements that could over heat. both chrysler and jeep dealer were notified of excessive heat generated by vehicle seat heater and declined to make fix or repair without charge. specifically, they told me they would fix it and charge me for the repay, but were not going to accept responsibility for the problem. seat did eventually overheat to a point the heater no longer worked. owner set forth to repair seat and during seat teardown observed evidence of seat fire. multiple pictures and melted wires were collected and preserved. these items will be provided to nhtsa upon request. it is amazing death/injury did not occur due to this known defect that chrysler refused to address. all chrysler vehicles with similar heater design should be inspect and repaired without charge to vehicle owner. in addition, chrysler should be made to provide compensation to those that had repairs done at their cost. *js

Dear sir/madam: this concerns the m35 recall relating to the jeep grand cherokee (2003 in my case). yesterday, 2-26-14, the dealership supposedly performed the fix to resolve the issue with the airbag system. this was the 3rd time that i had made an appointment after they had presumably gotten the parts needed to do the job. the previous 2 times, in march and september 2013, after getting to the dealership and considerable waiting, i ended being told that they could not perform the service because they did not have the parts--€”prior to march 2013, they said not to know what parts were needed. the problem i have is that the airbag warning light is still on and they refused to fix it alleging that the recall did not provide for that. i found this illogical. on the one hand, i believe the warning light comes on when there is a problem with the airbag system and, on the other hand, they are telling me that they have now fixed the problem with the airbag system. around the time chrysler jeep informed of the problem, my airbag warning light turned on. it took contacts over a year's time with the dealership to finally have them "correct" the problem and i am now left wondering if it has indeed been corrected. i would appreciate it if someone were to look into this. *tr

The car should be recalled because the driver seat design/manufacture is defective. i first noticed a clicking noise when in the car. i became accustomed to the noise and basically overlooked it for months. one day when getting into the car in a parking lot i landed in the back seat. as i was getting into the car the driver seat tilted backwards like a rocking chair and i was halfway dumped head first (upside down) into the rear of the car. i was not injured. i looked under the seat and was able to see that the seat frame is bolted to the car and that the front of the seat is attached to the seat frame by two very thin "cast iron" brackets. the two brackets (left and right) had both simply sheared off and there is nothing holding the front of the seat to the seat frame (the rear of the seat is still attached to the frame). i speculate that the brackets just gave out overtime from the simple activity of getting into and out of the car. i was lucky the car was parked and i was simply getting into the car when the brackets gave out. if in fact i had been rear-ended i expect i would have been thrown out of the seat (seat belts or not) and seriously injured or killed. i reported this on the jeep facebook page so other folks could be aware of the potential danger. jeep responded to me on facebook, email and telephone but basically said it was a 10 year old car and the defect was not their problem - sorry! when looking online to find out how to repair the seat i discovered what appears to be thousands of consumer complaints for the same exact defect. in fact companies have been started to make frames and brackets just to fix this defect and i am fearful that people have been seriously injured in accident (or killed) because of the defect. in my opinion no one should be driving around in a 2003 jeep grand cherokee unless the defect is repaired. *tr

Had my jeep for about 4 years now, and i've recently had many issues with it. for one, there's a recall, which parts are not available right now for an orc sensor. the recall letter said there may be a chance that it could cause an electrical distress on the computer. now, i don't know if these caused many electrical issues or not, but i'd like to see something done about it. around later november 2012 i took the jeep to get the ac/heater work because it wasn't working. paid $400.00, labor and parts. also got my signal lights fixed, because they weren't working either. few months pass, now its march 2013. the signal lights work when they want, even after getting it fixed. the right signal light works fine, the left works when it wants. my driver foglight went out. i don't have a bad bulb so what is it? few weeks later, driver headlight goes out. again, no blown bulb. few more weeks pass, and my ac/heater stopped working again. why? also, the driver tail light, at times goes out. no bad bulb. i feel as if i give it more time, the problem is just going to get worse. we need to look into this problem. *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee. consumer requests reimbursement for repairs to heated seat elements recall notice. *smd the consumer stated the seat heater was not working properly. he became aware of the recall and had the dealer check, but was informed that his vehicle was one of the few that was not included in the recall of seats that posed a danger of catching on fire. the consumer stated he was led to believe, that his vehicle was not included in the recall, because the heated seat element posed no danger of fire. having been led to believe the part posed no fire hazard, and that it may have just worn out, the consumer agreed to pay the cost to replace the heated seat element. however, when the element was replaced by the dealer, it was discovered the part was not worn, but clearly damaged by fire.

I have no heat in this vehicle. i replace a part and detached the glove compartment permanently so that i can turn a knob to get heat, at least, on the driver side. there is zero heat on the passenger side, but i engage the "c" button and the passenger side gets recirculated air on that side, (not warm, but at least not freezing cold). sometimes turning the knob engages the heat, sometimes not. i have discovered that this is a defect in manufacturing for 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited vehicles, along with prior years. however, to my knowledge, there has been no recall. i purchased this vehicle pre-owned, with 80k miles on it. my question is if this is a defect in manufacturing, why should i have to pay hundreds of dollars to repair it. it seems that the dealership should absorb the cost of this repair and not the consumer. additionally, why hasn't this problem been listed as a recall? *tr

03' jeep grand cherokee with 100k miles. has been well maintained and taken care of. i'm in the navy and am stationed at ns norfolk where there many tunnels. so, i'm driving home from the naval station and my jeep is running perfect, then all of the sudden nothing. it just dies. i let it sit a few minutes after barely making off the road and it started back up. ever since it has started doing this periodically and always no prior indication. i've done some research and noticed that several jeep owners are have similar issues. this seems to me to be a major safety issue to me. i can only imagine my wife and child trying to get through a tunnel, or a curve anywhere and it just dies. all of the sudden no power steering, no power brakes and traffic zooming everywhere. i would be curious to see how many accidents have occurred as a result of this. it seems to be difficult to diagnose, but appears to be a defect with the pcm shorting out. *tr

I had just bought this vehicle and taking the off ramp in a hard arc while slowing down i felt the drivers seat move. i only had a couple of hundred yards to go so i waited to check it when i got home. the front left seat bracket had sheared away leaving the seat sitting at a funny angle. this is a dangerous thing to happen. luckily, no one was hurt.

Wiring harness that goes behind valve cover is melted. i have had to have my 2003 jeep grand cherokee's # 3 injection wire replaced twice. once before 70,000 miles and again within the last year. while it was still under warranty the vehicle would spit and sputter and i'd smell gas. the vehicle would stall. the facility changed the #3 injector and it ran okay for a short time. it did it again and "something else" was the problem. traveling after the first 'fix' and it bogged down, heavy gas smell, hesitation, etc. the #3 wire replaced. a little over 1000 miles to next destination and it took 4 tanks of gas, horrible smell, spit and sputter, etc. limped into port, #3 wire and injector replaced along with a tuneup for fouled plugs. this year it happened again. took it in and was shown the wiring harness is melted. #3 wire replaced. this has been costly and even though the facility sees the melted harness they haven't questioned why. is this a fire hazard waiting to happen? i'm not sure of the dates but can hunt done paperwork if needed. *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo: heater/defroster intermittently blows cold air while driving. while driving in the winter with heat and/or defrost on and temp control turned to warm/hot, suddenly there is cold air only. in rain/snow windshield will frost over making it impossible to see. this defect may only last a few minutes, maybe longer. if i stop the engine for a minute or two, and don't touch the heater controls, restart the car, there is heat again to defrost the glass. this however may only last a few minutes or maybe an hour. if the engine is stopped again and restarted, there is heat again. this is extremely dangerous as a cold defroster in a snowstorm causes ice buildup inside the car. i have seen many heat/defrost problems with this generation of gc's on the internet. i have to question why chrysler has not issued a recall for such a danger to myself and others. *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee has experienced prolonged acceleration problems. the problem at first was subtle, accelerating slowly but noticeably at any speed over 35 mph. eventually, the car died at a traffic light. mechanics repaired the throttle body. within two weeks of the repair, the car began unwarranted acceleration at full throttle. engine red lined when put into park or neutral. genuine jeep part replaced the aftermarket throttle body. unwarranted acceleration problem continued...accelerator was determined to have a "sticking problem" and was repaired and/or cleaned. the problem persists...this time, again, the throttle body is apparently the target of blame. in this situation my brakes/emergency brake and not sufficient to hold back the jeep. this is a dangerous and very scary situation which needs to be seriously addressed by the manufacturer. total repair costs to date: approx. $500.00. *tr

For the second time in 5 years the drivers side seat support has broken. both time the break has occurred on the front left corner. the broken part is of the support assembly, it is a tube that pivots to allow for up/down adjustments and holds the weight of the seat. *tr

2002 jeep grand cherokee limited v-8 4x4 with climate control. the hvac fan quit functioning. when i took the vehicle into the dealer i purchased it from, i was told, without them doing any teardown, that it was a common occurrence for the hvac wire harness and connector behind the dash to overheat and melt down. with the vehicle being out of warranty, the estimated repair cost in 2005 at over $1200 in labor plus the wiring harness and a set of 3 air doors, i could not then nor now afford repairs and have done without heat or cooling ever since. to eliminate the possibility of a fire from the damaged wiring, i removed the fuse, which i recall to be 40 amps. i strongly feel that possibility of a fire from the overheated wiring is just cause for a recall to replace the wiring harness and related parts damaged by the apparent short circuit caused by the overheating. i also suspect that the cruise control was damaged also as it hasn't functioned properly since. *tr

While on an interstate highway at normal speeds, the cruise control stuck, causing full throttle acceleration. the only way to slow the vehicle down was to shift into neutral because the brakes were insufficient to control the speeding vehicle. the over-revving of the engine resulted in severe damage (main bearing/rod) until it could be shut off. it would have been impossible to steer it to the side of the road without having the engine on. this was a seriously life-threatening situation for two people who survived only because of quick thinking. as a result, repairs for this vehicle total over $6000. *tr

Noticed a decrease in gas mileage and check engine light on. about 1 month after radio would pop loudly gauges on dash would act erratically, digital mileage screen would flicker, vehicle stalls while driving or sitting at a stand still and then restart on its own. while driving and it stalls you loose steering, antilock brakes. car returns to normal idle and symbols stay lit on dash, (brake, airbag, check engine light, etc) brought to dealership code po123 so replaced the throttle/pedal position sensor switch a. dealership said that would resolve the stall. 2 days after repair vehicle stalled, instruments were erratically going from 0-100 mph 0 rpms-? no antilock brakes, steering, etc. whole vehicle looses power. brought to dealership with all instrument lights lit on panel and no diagnostic codes would populate. after this happens and the car is shut off the next restart has a sluggish restart. battery was checked multiple times and is good. occurrence is about 8 times a weekly intermittently. the consequences is it happens with no warning, puts driver in dangerous situation due to stalling when ever it decides to and loss of control of the vehicle. also on posted forums this is discussed heavily and nobody seems to know how to fix this very unsafe and potential deadly fault with jeeps. they recommend to replace the pcm but i have been told this is a 50% effective resolution and dealerships i called have stated this issue is well known and none of them have been able to find the cause. *tr

Oct 13, 2008 my 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited, vin # experienced an unexplained driver and passenger airbag deployment, while stopped with the engine running. i was unhurt, but my passenger who was reaching over to shake hands with a neighbor was slightly injured (no hospitalization). insurance, jeep dealers, extended warranty parties would not repair bags. jeep (corporate) did send investigator and did arrange for air bags to be repaired at spring chrysler jeep in spring, tx. the dealer, per corporate directive, replaced both airbags and seat belt modules. they did not replace any wiring harnesses, or other associated parts. the dealer did not attempt to determine the actual cause of the accident. they were directed to send the removed parts to chrysler. since they did not or would/could not disclose to me the defect and did not replace the entire system, i am very concerned (scared) for my safety. an uncommanded airbag deployment (rare or none documented since no severe injuries occurred) could have catastrophic consequences. the suv is currently at the dealer. it was ready/repaired 16 dec 2008. i am not sure how to handle this. could you please help? tr jones *tr

I recently purchased a 2003 jeep grand cherokee overland over the summer of 2008. i live in mn and it is rather cold here. around october the heat in my jeep when out, i took it into the shop and they told me it was the "blend door" that was causing the problems and its going to be $800 to fix it because removal of the dash is required and there is a lot of labor for a part that only costs $50. i have been doing my research and it seems this is a very common problem for jeep owners and it is actually quite common when you reach around 60,000-80,000 miles my car had 74,000. i go to college and don't have that kind of money to fix it right now and i live in a very cold state, im very upset with jeep right now if problems like this are happening to people something should be done about it. *tr

Loss of any and all heat. started with the failure of the blend door actuator, resulting in the loss of heat on the passenger side. blow cold air when setting is set at a high temperature. then the recirculator door that fell off the small hinge and dropped on top of the blower disrupting the flow of any air though the heating system. then the blower itself failed resulting in no air, hot or cold, being produced. currently no heat or defrost is being produced resulting in limited visibility while driving and no heat when outside temperature today is at 1 degree above zero and over a foot of snow. *tr

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee has had the window just begin to fall into the door on three out of the four windows now and it is usually at the most dangerous moment possible while i'm on the highway or on the road in general. i turn to see no window or the window mysteriously down and i am unable to roll it up. this presents many different hazards not only to the vehicle itself but, also to the occupants whether it is a child or my canine companion they both like to lean on the window and look out even though a child will have a seatbelt on if the window falls down and the child falls out towards the opposing traffic still hanging by a seat belt this is not a situation i am willing to risk. and i will lose my puppy if he is sitting there no doubt about it he will fall right out and it isn't easy to leave him at home every time i go somewhere because i'm afraid of the window failing again it's completely unpredictable. also with the weather it is not very practical to pull off of the highway which is an extremely dangerous area already but to try and somehow prop the window up isn't a safe situation any way you look at it. as cars whisk by at upwards of 70 miles an hour i try and fix something that can be fixed by changing one part on the window regulator. there is already an after market block that can replace the faulty brittle plastic piece. i would appreciate some consideration with this issue. //s// jake trione *tr

April of 2006 i purchased my 2003 jeep grand cherokee overland. about 2weeks after i purchased the vehicle, i noticed that the heater was not working properly. i took the vehicle back to the dealer where they informed me that the blend doors where broken or not working properly and it would cost approximately $1000 to fix and would not be covered under the extended warranty i purchased. i had to go through the various levels of management until they finally agreed to repair the vehicle. just over 1 year later in august of 2007, i noticed that the ability to direct air to specific vents, stopped working, now the air just blows into the dash. i have gone back to the dealer, where they told me that the problem is the recirculate door, which was suppose to be changed when the blend doors where replaced, according to their "technical service bulletin", which was not done when the blend doors where replaced. the cost to do the repair would be approximately $1000 because they have to go through the same process as when the blend doors where replaced, except this time they will replace the recirculate doors. i really didn't realize the safety issue these components posed, until i drove in a snow climate. it was impossible to defrost the windshield. i literally had to reach forward wipe the windshield every couple of minutes while driving in order to see. it was extremely unsafe. these failed components are not considered luxury features, such as ac, it's considered a safety feature. there is an unusually high level of complaints of people experiencing the very same problem with their jeep grand cherokees, and chrysler has yet to address the problem. defrosters are a safety feature. in cold climates you cannot operate the vehicle safely without them. when is the manufacturer held responsible for faulty parts that pose a safety risk? does something have to happen? does someone have to get injured, possibly worse? the dealerships are capitalizing the consumers are hurting. *tr

I just had the valve stems replaced (due to cracking) on my jeep. they were coded as tr413 (obviously the same dill number covered in the recall. however, these tires and valve stems were installed on my car in december of 2005 - clearly not manufactured during the august-december 2006 time frame of the recall. this raises the question about the dill/chinese valve stem problem being much larger than has been claimed. i am a retired former rubber chemist, and have run hundreds of ozone resistance tests on rubber compounds, so i am fairly familiar with what to look for. nhtsa should expand its investigation of this problem. i kept the old valve stems which were removed, and will make them available upon request. *tr

I was completely stopped at a 4-way stop sign. each time the van in front of me moved forward, i would let off the brake to drift forward a few feet, and then re-engage the brake to stop. when the van that was directly in front of me moved forward to take its turn at the stop sign, i again let off the brake to drift forward & then re-engaged the brake. however, my 2003 jeep grand cherokee's engine revved/idled high & it lurched forward. i smashed the brake to the floor, but the jeep lurched forward a 2nd time. i lifted my foot for a split-second & again pushed the brake pedal as hard as i could, but the jeep lurched forward a 3rd time & hit the van in front of me. my daughter was in the car with me & felt the jeep lurching/jumping forward as well. not to mention, she heard me saying that i couldn't get the jeep to stop. i am certain i was not pressing the accelerator simultaneously because my foot was firmly/solidly on the brake pedal. if i had been on the gas, i would have hit the van much harder/faster. now, i will be responsible for paying for the damages done to the van, as well as paying for higher insurance premiums. the truth is, i am not at fault; the jeep is.

Blend door malfunction. on the passenger side of my jeep i always have cold, no matter how many times i try to change the temp to get the doors to adjust. driver side has sporadic problems with the blend doors. sometimes it will be the temp that i want, and other times it will be the complete opposite. when i asked the jeep dealer in town, he estimated that it would cost $1400 to fix the problem. i had bought the jeep from a dealership 4 months prior to this happening. i have done nothing to correct this problem because i refuse to pay out of my own pocket for faulty equipment that was installed by the vehicle manufacturer. *jb

I have a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with automatic climate control, and 1 week ago i tried to use the heat and had nothing. i have blower functions, but it only blows cold air. i then got on the internet to find that all grand cherokee owners are being or soon will be affected. i also called some local dealerships to discuss with them. i found that there is service bulletins and new parts that were developed for this issue. i also found that the repair requires complete replacement of the hvac sub assembly at the cost of $900-$1200. they also say that because my heat died at 44000 miles that the warranty is up and they will not help unless i pay. the biggest problem with this issue is that with no heat, i can not defrost my windshield, or even the whole car. i drive 20 miles to work one way, on i-69, from indianapolis to noblesville, and i cannot imagine what it will be like on freezing, snowing day. please research this and the other complaints in regard of this failure and make chrysler corp. do the right thing and fix this problem, before someone gets hurt or killed this winter. *jb

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with 105k miles. i am the second owner. we purchased the jeep second hand from sheehy ford mercury in ashland virginia on january 15th 2007. the part failure appears to be a very common problem on the jeep models with dual climate control based on the hundreds of online forums describing similar problems with the hvac "recirc" doors and the "blend" doors. my problem was the recirc door had broken loose and had fallen down covering the vent system entirely, in effect, we had no heat, no a/c and most importantly, no defrost. virginia state law requires that the vehicle must have defrost to pass the state safety inspection. i did the repair myself after reading how daimler/chrysler has completely ignored the design fault. now, anyone who has these model jeep's will have to pay $1200.00 and up for a repair that breaks again due to the same problem using the same faulty parts. the plastic door stops break off first, then due to the poor design, the door finally breaks off and falls down blocking all airflow from the heating and air system. a recall needs to be issued to fix the problem. i ordered from ebay, two kits from someone in texas who offers replacement stainless steel hardware that replaces the recirc doors and blend doors. the kits cost me $232.00 dollars and about 16 hrs labor along with bloody knuckles. i decided to not waste time going to a dealer and getting denied repairs due to no recall. the kits i used were called heatertreater. i repaired both recirc and blend doors even though the blend doors were not a problem yet. please, please someone force daimlerchrysler to face reality and fix this safety problem. *tr

Problem with brake rotors keep on warping, we have been to dealer numerous times for same problem, they work for a while and then warp. when driving on freeway when at freeway speeds braking feels like they skipping, sometimes shaking the steering wheel. dealer still has not resolved the problem. *jb

My complaint is regarding the 2003/2004 jeep grand cherokee seat heater recall (f17). the recall letter was mailed out on or about 07/21/2006.my wife has called the dealership in 2006 and again in 2007 in order to schedule the recall with the dealership. both times, the dealership claimed that the part would not be available for months and that the dealership could not schedule an appointment at that time and did not offer to place her on a 'waiting list' or a 'call list'. i contacted the dealership, elk grove chrysler jeep (california) on 03/08/07 and was told that the parts were in and an appointment could be made. i made the appointment. i believe that this constitutes a failure on the part of daimler chrysler to repair a potentially dangerous situation in a "...reasonable time,...". i know of nothing else that i have to wait almost eight(8) months for. *jb

July 2006 i was driving my 2003 jeep when i heard a pop. i was unsure where the sound came from so i looked around the vehicle to see if a rock had hit the window. i then proceeded to roll down each window to see if there was a problem there. i found that the passenger side window was broken and the window slid down into the door. when i called the dealership the person who answered the phone knew immediately what the problem was without even seeing the vehicle because this is apparently a common problem. when the vehicle was taken in for repairs i asked to speak to the manager because i believed it was unfair that i had to pay well over $300 for something that seems to be a defect. he then explained that the genius engineers decided to replace what used to be a steel rod with a piece of plastic! i requested the address to send a formal complaint to chrysler regarding this matter and i followed up with a letter via e-mail. in return, i received a form letter from chrysler that had not been completed. i feel cheated by a company that has taken my money and ran. i will never buy another jeep or chrysler vehicle because of the treatment i received. they didn't even care enough to proofread the form letter they sent... i'm guessing they probably didn't even read my letter.*jb

At 35,000 miles the passenger-side window regulator made a popping noise, then the window slowly sank into the window-well and would not move. i had to have the regulator replaced at a cost to me of $447.20. *jb

There were no events leading up to the failure. i purchased my jeep in the summer 2003. everything was working properly. the following summer 2004, the ac went bad and stopped. i had it quoted and repaired. now, in the first qtr of 2006, the ac does not work again. i had it quoted and the repair cost was estimated at $650.00. this time, the failure is due to the trap door and face not working. *nm

Vehicle had approximately 50,000 miles when engine service light came on. took vehicle to dealer who noticed gasoline leaking on the ground under the gas tank. gas tank was removed and dealer found that the o-ring sealing the fuel pump to the gas tank had slipped allowing gas to leak out when the tank was full. the service rep said i was very lucky that nothing had ignited the leaking fuel. *jb

Dt: the contact stated that the vehicle consistently stalled and leaked gas. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where they determined the gas leak was caused by the fuel pump. the fuel pump was replaced however gas continued to leak. on 07/13/06 the vehicle was taken to the independent repair shop for the stalling problems and the gas leak. the mechanic determined there was a blown fuse which causing the vehicle to stall. the the fuse was replaced and tighten. while stopped in the dealer parking lot with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle lunged forward accelerating and almost hitting a pedestrian. the mechanic test drove the vehicle and was unable to make the involuntariy acceleration reappear. the vehicle continues to stall and leak gas.

I was sitting in my jeep with it running and my foot on the brake and talking to my daughter in her pickup and my niece was getting into the passenger side when all of a sudden it start to accelerate. i pushed harder on the brake and slammed it into park .it went forward almost running over my niece. it lunged forward with nothing stopping it, and the right back tire left skid marks. something must be done before some one is killed. i am afraid to drive it,i t has a mind of its own and did what it wanted and i could not stop it. *jb

The passenger door window went part way down, it then failed to move . you could hear the motor working but the window remained in the same position. the failure caused rain and debris to enter the window. the entire regulator had to be replaced which included the motor because a plastic cam broke. the part cost over $200 to the public and failed with less than 31000 miles on the car but was out of warranty by exceeding the three year limit. same unit on both sides of car could cause problem of objects flying in face of driver. *jb

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with 16,168 miles. my driving pattern for the past year has been within downtown city limits and connecting freeways where speeds over 50 miles per hour are rare due to traffic congestion. on a recent interstate trip when i apply the brakes at speeds above 45 mph they pulsated and the front end would shake violently each time the brakes were applied. i immediately took the vehicle to a jeep dealer for an inspection. the car had warped front brake rotors. prior to proceeding with the repair i contacted daimler chrysler to authorize the repair at their cost as the problem is a known design/manufacturing defect affecting 1999 through 2004 grand cherokees. after over an hour on the, phone they authorized replacement rotors as a goodwill repair albeit with the original defective rotor design. i learned from the dealer service rep their service department has replaced the rotors in about four thousand 1999 -2004 model grand cherokees. this is essentially a 100% failure rate. any abnormal brake operation is a potential safety issue. stopping distance will be increased by compromised inefficiency of the warped rotor against the disc. from a human factor standpoint the driver is distracted at a critical point in bringing the vehicle to a stop. instinct may cause the driver to ease off the brakes to reduce the vibration thereby risking a collision or loss of control and veer into opposing traffic. i understand from the dealer there is an after-market fix to the factory rotors. daimler chrysler should on their own provided an engineering change to existing replacement rotors to correct the heat problem and in the absence of such the nhtsa should take appropriate action. has the manufacturer filed an early warning report on the brake pulsation problem? *jb *nm

Since october 2005 i have had 3 power window regulators fail. i have replaced 2 and currently need the 3rd replaced. it is expensive and absurd to have to go through this in less than a years time. *jb

I bought a 2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo in 2002 brand new. i now have 42,000 miles on the jeep and the rear seat belt mechanism has broken. i have 3 grandchildren that i haul back there every weekend. i called skyland olds where i purchased the 30,000.00 vehicle,took it in for an estimate. the service advisor gave me a business card with "center seat belt $166.75 before tax". i then called him back today and asked him (john licka) to fax me a formal estimate and he did so which says $84.00 labor and $61.75 parts " for another total of 145.75 before taxes. i called the jeep corporation and they offered to pay for the part and me pay for labor. i then spoke to mr. snyder who is the service manager and mr. sidespinner (general manager) who informed me that since i had 42,000 miles on the vehicle he could do nothing about it. this isn't a money issue. but he had the attitude that after 36,000 miles,,oh well. they are putting the general public at risk but even moreso now, my grandchildren!!! mr. sidespinner had the mentality that so are brakes and other things on a vehicle a safety issue, but we as consumers are responsible for maintaining these other items. is it to the point now that when we have our 36,000 mile maintenance done, we should have all our seat belts replaced too? mr. licka did inform jeep chrysler corp. that is was not abused or caused by me. please let me know your thoughts on this. do we wait for many people or children to die before we get a recall????? and they are actually trying to dictate to me where i have my jeep fixed. i asked the jeep representative (bob at 1-800-9921997 with reference # 15002480) how many of these problems they had to have before having a recall and (shrug) he had no idea!!!!! i purchased the vehicle at skyland olds. at 255 smokey park hwy. in asheville n.c. 28816, phone 828-667-5213. i started at the bottom and worked my way to the top to the general mgr. and they act as if it's no big deal. *jb

Drove vehicle into garage stall. put vehicle in park, opened drivers door, left door open and vehicle running to retrieve personal item from house, went to walk out garage and vehicle started backing out garage. drivers door caught on garage support pole, twisting door around to front fender as it proceeded out of garage. dragged myself past tool box and by garage door. vehicle then proceeded down driveway, did u-turn past neighbors vehicles and lodged on boulder in neighbors front yard. went to emergency room for treatment, no broken bones or major injuries. sustained lots of deep bruising, bad scrapes and swelling of upper body, left lower leg, and arms. *jb

2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo the mode control located on the ventilation/air conditioning panel failed. the knob control functions in that it will shut the system/fan off but it will not divert the air to the passenger compartment and has stuck in the windshield vent position only. in addition the cruise control has malfunctioned in that when the cruise is turned on the light in the instrument cluster illuminates but when you try to set the speed control it does not function. i am not sure if these two situations are related but they both seem electrical. i will be taking it to the dealer to try and solve the difficulties. *nm

I would like to register a complaint against chrysler. i own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee and i had to have the motor replaced for the driver side rear window. what is bothersome to me is that i never put this window down. no one sits in the back seat nor do i have children putting the window up and down. i also had to replace both the driver and passenger side motors as well. it's quite clear that there is a defect in this part. i would appreciate it if we start holding companies accountable for their products. *nm

In august 2005, passenger side power window regulator failed (lower pulley broke allowing cable to become entangled around motor drum). window fell within door housing and i had to drive vehicle with no side window in a downpour to the dealer. vehicle had approx. 42k miles. dealer refused to repair under warranty in that vehicle has > 36k miles. in may 2006, drivers side power window regulator failed, with the same symptoms. both repairs were funded out of my pocket. *nm

Window regulator is faulty. this has occurred 3 times within the past year in which i need to replace the regulator to make the window go up and down. occurrences have taken place on may 2005, january 2006 driver's side window both times and april 2006 passenger side window. all three times i have paid at my expense to get this faulty equipment fixed. *nm

I have had my jeep grand cherokee 2003 for 3 years. it has 55,000 miles on the vehicle and is in excellent condition. in may 2005, the driver's side window regulator (the component that makes the window go up and down) popped. i had it repaired at my expense. it also occurred again in january of 2006; same side driver's side window and again i had it repaired at my expense. it is now april 2006 and the passenger side window regulator popped and is no longer operational. i will need to bring the vehicle in and get it repaired at my expense yet again. *nm

On 03-19-04 i took my jeep for repair because the brakes were pulsating. on 07-12-04 i made a return visit because the brakes were pulsating again. on 04-13-05 i return because the brakes were pulsating again. the third trip to salerno duane came nine months later, on april 13, 2005 at 22,731 miles. again, service advisor reported that the front rotors were rough and were resurfaced. when asked if this work would be covered by a warranty as well, which was obviously necessary due to past experience, manager said she believed it would be. when i requested documentation as proof to that statement, she refused. i then asked to speak to the service manager, a mr. g who was, less than professional is an understatement, just plain rude is more accurate. he refused to warranty the work that had been done on my vehicle stating the problem was not salerno duane, but possibly a chrysler defect. as of april 2006 i am experiencing the same problem of my brakes pulsating. i phoned salerno duane on april 5, 2006 and spoke to service manager and she informed me the work will not be warranted and i will be charged for the repairs. being this is an ongoing problem i feel that this repair should be the car dealer responsibility. i am afraid to continue driving this vehicle for i feel it is very unsafe for my family and for other motorist and pedestrians on the road. i would very much appreciate you assistance in resolving this ongoing and unsafe problem. i have records and documentations for all these incidents. *jb

The front brake rotors became warped and needed to be replaced at only 23000 miles. the rotors warped because of heat build up during braking,and the dealer replaced them with vented rotors to avoid this in the future. pads and all other brake components were fine. i have learned of several other jeep gr cher owners who experienced the same problem, and i believe that a car of this size should have had vented rotors installed at the time it was assembled. *nm

When applying the brakes at high speed the vehicle would shake and vibrate violently. at low speeds using the brakes the vehicle would pulsate slowly forward while removing pressure from the brake pedal. the conditions continued to get worse especially the vibrations and shaking at high speed braking. i brought the vehicle back to the dealership at 19,000 (roughly) where they proceeded to tell me that the rotors were severely warped and would need to be replaced along with the pads. i asked why they are warped beyond serviceability and they stated this is a know problem. i wrote to diamlerchrysler as well trying to get some type of refund back after spending $550 on the parts and labor for something that i feel was a quality issue to begin with. they stated rotors warp due to various driving conditions. i disagree, it is poor quality materials being used. they will lose my business over this. the reason i bought a new vehicle was to avoid costly repairs for a few years. *nm

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee, with less than 33,000 miles, was repaired for the same problem twice this year, on 9 feb and 26 jul 2005. the repairs were done at 2 different jeep-certified service facilities, and focused on decarbonization cleanings. based on the invoices and my own research, it's clear this problem has several interrelated factors: multiple cylinder misfires, and exhaust valve obstruction with excessive carbon buildup. further, it is directly linked to short-trip/city driving. a few weeks after the second repair, i had an independent (non-jeep) ace-certified mechanic inspection. his findings indicate that the misfires continue; the underlying problem apparently persists. in the big picture, jeep did acknowledge the problem in tsb-09-003-03, encompassing a span of models, from 1999 to 2004, w/ 4.0l engines. the tsb prescribes a valve check and possible cleaning, but does not address the root cause of the misfires and carbon build-up. in the smaller picture, i might mention: the jeep representative a/w the july repair told me this problem was the result of using 'cheap gasoline'. this theory is not supported by anything i've learned in my own reserach. it is just not feasible that gasoline grade could cause such an extent of carbon build-up twice in 6 months, esp with such low mileage. i should probably also add that i don't know the absolute answer to this problem. there is a good deal of reference material online id'ing this as a chronic problem w/ grand cherokee, yet no clearcut permanent solution. i have supporting documentation on what i state here, and will be happy to follow up in writing if that will help. lastly- since most of my vehicle use is short-trip city driving, i am worried that i may face long-term inconvenience, expense, and safety risks. my intent is not to cause problems for jeep- i simply want my vehicle to be functioning and safe for my family. *jb

2003 jeep liberty ball joints replaced approx. 30,000 miles under manufacturer recall, at that time vehicle was making significant road noise from the front end suspension. dealer replaced lower ball joint assembly at that time. approx. 66,000 miles vehicle was taken to dealer to find source of front end noise again, dealer could not duplicate and stated there was no problem. approx. 71,000 miles vehicle taken back to dealer for same problem because it was getting worse. i had a factory authorized repair technician go on a test drive with me on september 23, 2005. within about a minute of the test drive the technician stated that it was most likely the lower ball joint assembly and that he believed the recall had been extended to lifetime. i scheduled an appointment to bring the vehicle in for repair on september 27, 2005. the dealership had the vehicle the majority of the day and could find nothing wrong. they stated that the ball joints looked fine. on sunday october 2nd, 2005 the lower ball joint on the driver's side failed. fortunately it was a speed of under 5 mph as we were turning out of a parking lot. the front driver's side suspension had collapsed. vehicle was towed to the dealership sunday evening. currently waiting on the dealership's response. this is a repeat failure and a major safety issue that to date the dealership has chosen to ignore. *nm

Strange electrical issues start happening. my car wouldn't start and couldn't be jump started. had to be towed to the dealer. the problem was a corroded positive battery cable lead. the battery cable assembly had to be replaced at a cost of $300.00. the car is two years old and i live in colorado. i fine it difficult to believe that a battery cable could corrode to the point of having to be replaced in two years. i believe that it is a defective cable not corrosion that caused my problem. *nm

Touching the brakes at high speeds causes shaking and shuddering of the entire vehicle making it difficult to maintain control during emergency stopping. brake rotors were replaced at 7500 miles and now need replacing again at 30000. the dealer says that all 2003 jeeps have this problem. they say that the problem is poor design of the factory rotors. i can not believe that emergency stopping and anti-lock brake function is not affected by this. jeep says that this is just a nuisance. how can this not be a safety issue?*jb

Dt: 2003 jeep grand cherokee. the consumer stated driver's side rear tire sidewall disintegrated. there is only 31,000 miles on the vehicle. the rest of the tires were weather rotted. these tires have never been repaired. they were the original tires on the vehicle. goodyear, p255/75r16. the tire was taken to the dealership. instead, it should have been taken to goodyear. there was no wreck when this happened. the tires were properly maintained. it is a leased vehicle.*ak

Dt: consumer owned a 2003 jeep grand cherokee,, it had 50,000 miles on it. vehicle has gone through three sets of rotors. when braking the vehicle shook;. rotors were first replaced at 18,000 miles. the second time they were replaced 35,000 miles, and the rotors needed to be replaced again. consumer stated the wheels were chrome, and the front were black like carbon has got on them. the rear wheels were still shiny. three sets on the front and one set on the rear were replaced. the brake pads were effective, but the rotors were warped. the vehicle is currently at the firestone service center. *ak

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee has faulty brake rotors. when the brakes are applied at speeds above 35 mph, the car shakes and control of the car is lost. it does not stop properly or quickly. the dealer replaced the first set of rotors and brakes at 9,000 miles. the same problem is happening again at 17,000 miles. the dealer and chryslerdaimler corp. is not accepting any responsibility in the defective brake rotors. (the is a class action law suit against chryslerdaimler corp. currently). *jb

The front brakes on the consumers 2003 jeep cherokee wore out irregularly.(nar) *jb the front brake rotors caused the vehicle to shimmy excessively especially at higher speeds. each time the vibration would take place, the front rotors would have to be replaced. the consumer requested a refund of repair monies. the chrome peeled off of the wheels. *sc *jb

2003 model jeep grand cherokee overland shakes at high speeds when braking approximately every 9,000 miles. dealer replaced front brake rotors and pads at 9300 and 18,000 miles. now vehicle has 24,000 miles, it shakes when braking again at high speeds and dealer states it is out of warranty. they may or may not repair the brakes this time. brake rotors should not need to be replaced every 9,000 miles. the excessive shaking caused by the defective brake system could cause serious personal injury to occupants of the vehicle or others who are on the road.

Dt: prior to failure, the vehicle was hard to steer. i turned into a parking lot, and it sounded like a tire was blown out. the tires were fine, and as i started the front fell outwards and the tire fell sideways. had it towed to the dealer, and an investigator from chrysler is looking at it today.

My problems began at 9300 miles. brakes pulsating and shaking in the steering. front rotors where warped and needed to be resurfaced. had front rotors resurfaced 2 times and replaced 1 time, all occured under 20,000 miles. at 21,000 miles the rear rotors where resurfaced and now i have to return to the service center for the fifth time with 23000 miles on my vehicle brakes are pulsating again. found that there was a service bulletin that was issued on dec.02 regarding front brakes pulsating during light to moderate brake application for 1999 to 2002 jeep grand cherokees. this is due to excessive thickness variation of the brake rotors. obviously this problem still exists in 2003 models and daimlerchyrsler still refuses to fix the problem at no cost to the consumer.
