sTARTED SMELLING GASOLINE ODOR WHILE PARKED IN GARAGE. REPLACED FUEL CAP AND STARTED PARKING VEHICLE IN DRIVEWAY, RELOCATED TO LAS VEGAS, NV IN 2011 WHEN GARAGING THE CAR THE ODOR WAS PROMINENT AGAIN. CONTACTED FAIRWAY BUICK IN LAS VEGAS AND SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME OF A FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT RECALL # 07V349000. UPON GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP I WAS ADVISED THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED AND THAT THE REAIR WOULD BE AROUND $1300, HE SUGGESTED THAT IF I DIDN’T WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY I COULD TRY AN OVER THE COUNTER SPRAY SEALANT. THAT WORKED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND NOW THE FUMES ARE BACK AND BECAUSE OF A FUEL TANK PRESSURE LOSS THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE EXPLOSIVE POSSIBILITIES IN AN ENCLOSED GARAGE.

We purchased this \"GM certified\" vehicle in Nov. 2004. (just found out it was not \"GM certified\").. 1. windshield wipers locked in the middle of windshield during rain storm and dealer blamed us for not garaging the car. they wanted to charge us $200.00 but we instead had them \"fix\" it for a while. It ended costing us $50 for them to realign it.. They said it was a module.. They refused to fix it and said it wasn\’t a safety issue.2. No emergency brake on car. They said it was our fault. Only we never used the emergency brake. and there was no light showing up on the dash which leads us to now think there is a computer or electrical problem (#3). 4. the transmission started slipping last month, then died. we had it towed to the dealer. they kept it for almost a week, but ended up doing nothing to it. at least it didn\’t cost us anything.. one day later, the transmission was slipping again. they have the car now.. 5. the vents for air conditioning and heat barely blow air. even when on \"high\". So far the GM dealer has fixed nothing to our satisfaction.. We don\’t really even know how to fill out the info on your chart above..

The heater fans do not work properly. The dealer says the heater meets specifications but admitted that they had 4 other Buick Rendezvous’ in the shop that day with the same complaint. I know two other people with a 2002 Buick Rendezvous who have the same problem.

The heat wasn\’t getting hot so I went to the dealer and he told me that the intake manifold gasket failed and is leaking antifreeze. Something that should last a lifetime or at least 100000 miles fails. I hear that this is a common problem with GM V6 engines. Is there any class action being taken on this?

On four prior occasions for sudden catastrophic electrical system failure / stalling while the vehicle is in operation, this creates a major hazard to safe operation of the vehicle. The dealership and General Motors have been unable to isolate / replicate and effect repairs for this intermittent nonconformity, yet they have expect us to continue operating the vehicle while they knowingly have failed to effect repair. My wife and I are afraid to operate the vehicle in its condition and jeopardize our safety by operating a vehicle that is unsafe for highway operation. Given the nature of the problem, automobile appraisers state our vehicle is worthless for sale or trade. Current Mileage 18187.

My car has had problems since I purchased it in February of last year. Two days after I purchased the vehicle I returned it to be fixed because the car was rattling every time I pressed the accelerator. The dealership told me that this was a characteristic of the vehicle. After that I have not stopped going to the dealership to bring it to be fixed and for some odd reason I could never get service there was always some excuse. My air conditioning works but sometimes it will not even cut on. 2 weeks after I purchased the vehicle, I had to get the oil changed. I\’ve had the vehicle to the dealer approx,10 or 11 times for excessive wind noise. They replaced the upper hinge on the drivers door as well adjusted the weather stripping and finally replaced it. On one occasion the dealer supposedly replaced both hinges according to the work order but only one was replaced. As of right now I have 31840 miles on and am trying to get fixed before the warranty runs out, the wind noise sounds like a window is open, you can\’t carry on a conversation with your passenger, much less hear the radio. I\’ve had this problem for over a year and I\’d like to have it fixed. I like the Buick for it\’s economy and riding comfort and I\’d buy another one but I\’d check out the wind noise problem first problem

I hit a post head-on and although I had extensive damages, my air bags did not deploy. Fortunately I had my seat belt on so I only slightly bruised my chest on the steering wheel

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous which I purchased new. Two days ago I noticed my gas tank had started leaking. I immediately took it to the dealership and was told because it is plastic it could not be repaired. I asked if this was a common problem and was told since switching to a plastic, the Buick Rendezvous and Chevy Envoy have had a problem where the tank fails and starts to leak. I asked if Buick would cover the cost $1112.09 and was informed that GM is aware of the defect but they have not issued a recall. While I was lucky to smell the gas as my car is garaged, what does it take for someone to realize this tank was not designed properly — a fire or a death? How can I find records to see how many of these tanks were replaced and then who do i contact to see that if necessary a recall is instituted. Thanking you in advance, Mr. Ted Dziedzic

I had just bought this vehicle from a Carmax, and luckilly got the extended warranty. I was driving one day down 95, when the odometer stopped displaying the mileage and displayed ERROR. Still having it repaired, so I dont know the final verdict. But-the instrument cluster had to be replaced…the thing is the current cluster had to be shipped somewhere for the factory to read the mileage prior to them setting that mileage on a new cluster and shipping that to the dealer for installation. SO I have been without a vehicle for about a week now.Around the same time, I had my A/C recharged. A week later, there was no cool air. The vehicle was at the dealer the same time for the electrical problems, and sure enough the condenser was shot. I have never heard of a condenser going out at 36k miles. There have also been some electrical problems, the mirrors move on their own every now and then – and the door lock/horn malfunctions sometimes. There was no error code, thus the dealer could not diagnose. I just hope I am not just waiting for yet another round of costly repairs.

One day last week, i noticed that the lighting behind my gauges was out and the light on the radio is dim. then the next day none of my windows work, they are stuck down about 2 inches. and then i get on the highway and at 60mph the front end feels like its going to fall off. and when in the drive through the engine temp was heading for the red zone, i had to shut the vehicle off. after coming to a stop and then accelerating to go, the front wheels act like they grab the car jerks then the tires squeal and car moves. i have a service engine light on now, that is some dealer code :autozone did a diagnostic check., but the dealer wouldn't tell me what it was when i called. i have a light that came on for the brakes, as well as a light for servicing the traction system?? all this happened with in a couple days time. its very frustrating. i don't even know where to start first, or if it just needs to go to the junk yard. very disappointed. i'm on disability, thought i was buying a reliable gm product. also a piece of rear window trim on the passenger side just fell off.. and $132 is ridiculous to replace a piece of trim. and i noticed on other vehicles like mine many are missing this piece of trim on the same side. whats up with that?

Fuel tank is defective, with the car in motion and stationary, when i put more than a half tank, gasoline will find a way out the tank, i already replaced the fuel tank for another original one and it was good for only 3 months. the traction system when the car is in motion and stationary is always giving an error on the computer and making funny noises and sometimes brakes make a noise like ta ta ta because of the traction system. battery system is a joke i had to replace and put the battery terminals on the top because cables get disconnected from the original way. i would like to see more recalls on this car, so many problems and my car have a little over 80,000 miles

The vehicle was running for 45 minutes on two-lane paved country roads. i drove the first 15 minutes, with one of my sons driving the other 30 minutes while i was a front seat passenger. we pulled into a parking lot and switched drivers so another son could begin a driving lesson with me. when he began to back out of the parking space he said that the brakes did not feel right and noticed what i thought was steam coming from under the hood. i told him to pull back into the parking space and release the hood so i could check for an overheating engine, even though there were no warning lights on the dashboard and the temperature gauge was in the center of the visible range. when i opened the hood i saw a six-inch wide area of flames to the right of the alternator. i told my sons to get out of the vehicle and asked one of them to call 911 on his cellphone and the other to go to the nearest building, about 75 yards away, and look for a fire extinguisher. in the meantime, i opened the rear vehicle hatch to look for something i could use to put out the fire. finding nothing useful, i ran to the building my first son had approached for a fire extinguisher and found him inside the outer door of a locked lobby area. we both ran to the next building about 100 yards away where we located a fire extinguisher and returned to the vehicle. i estimate this took less than five minutes. when we returned to the vehicle the flames were about twelve inches wide, still only to the right of the alternator. i was able to quickly put out the fire, but had to aim much deeper into the engine compartment than the visible flame area to stop all flames. when the dealer later checked the vehicle i was told it appeared that a ruptured brake line had sprayed brake fluid on the exhaust manifold and started the fire. there had been no prior leaks or brake issues observed.

Oil and anti freeze leaking valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. and also the wheel hub and the vehicle is currently running hot

My car has a gas tank leak from the intake tube. in 2007 i received a recall letter for this problem but it wasn't a problem until now. i'm the original owner and the car has only 130,000 miles on it. can i get help with this repair? my local dealer doesn't want to talk about it.

Over heating for no reason. sometimes the fuel line seems clogged or full but will act as if it out of gas. have changed the alternator and distributor and the problem is still occuring. was told that it was a radiator but there seems to be a defect with the fuel system. some days it will start to run hot and if you keep yoyr foot on the gas the hot temp will go down. leaking out gas from left side as well as blowing out white smoke as if the engine is blown but i know its a good engine. some days the car will run fine but it seems to.me like the cold weather causes matbe sensor issues with the fuel system. also the gas light will come on spiratically like when you hit a pot hole like there is an short

No notice from gm on recall dated 08/08/2007 fuel tank defect. fuel leaking from fuel tank at this specific location. dealers will not repair this defect. i am the orig. owner.

Vehicle showed check engine code for emissions for some time. now smelling fuel from car. mechanic diagnosed as cracked tank, same as recall number 06230a. vin does not match recall. dealership and buick were not helpful at providing alternatives to getting issue fixed. upon more research there are many complaints online of this same issue. cracked tank and vin is not listed in recall. this provides very dangerous conditions. car smells like fuel inside and out. never been in an accident or had any issues that would cause this problem.

Noticed smell of gas by the 2002 buick rendezvous. mechanic verified there was a leak near filling point of car. said would be expensive to fix this, thought he saw something about gm recalling gas tanks on some vehicles. looked it up and saw many complaints about this issue and there was a recall. this was my parents car, now being used by my teenage son, so i looked in their file and found a letter sent from gm that a crack could occur in the tank due to a defective product and if it happened to the vehicle they would replace it. wrong. apparently a dangerous fire hazard doesn't matter after 10 years. gm said this replacement offer has expired. gm told me to make an appointment at a buick dealer to have them verify the problem. the dealer i brought it to told me not to waste my money having it diagnosed by them, since my mechanic had already verified it was leaking in the defective spot, because gm never covers this previously offered repair anymore. the 2002 rendezvous has only approximately 45,000 miles on it!! owned by my parents who took meticulous care of it. what was supposed to be a great car for my 16 year old son is now a fire hazard, and essentially unsellable if i have any conscience!! i cannot believe gm refuses to uphold their promise to repair this completely, dangerously unsafe defect, that they allotted replacement parts and money for, because they knew it was their defective part they put into these rendezvous. i guess they are waiting for someone to actually blow up to put this repair back into place.

I find the 2002 rendezvous has a defective gas tank. when they make the tank they use two different plastic materials for the tank and the filler tube that result on the weld not holding on. and due to the unusual position of that filler tube in the middle of the gas tank a very dangerous situation for explosion and fire. there is plenty of reports on the internet pertains only to the 2002 model. according to buick its not their problem because the warranty expire.

When driving the buick rendezvous 2002 home the brakes began to not respond. after arriving home and driving down our driveway, the suv had smoke coming out of the engine. the buick rendezvous was turned off but continued to expelled large amounts of smoke under the engine area. within 5 minutes the engine area caught on fire. the bozrah fire department was called and by the time they arrived within 15 minutes or so the entire vehicle was on fire.

Fuel tank recall # 07v349000 i took my car to my service center to check out fuel leak a fracture in tank housing was found, i call buick to report findings over 9 months and many phone calls nothing was done they finely said my vin was not one of the ones with that problems and said i should have tank replaced at my expense if it is the same defect they should pay for it i would like the car fixed by buick at their expense if u have a recall then honor it no pick and choose i would like to hear from someone if buick doesn't want to repair my vehicle then they should buy it for the retail price or give me another vehicle of equal value

Vehicle gave no kind of notice just started jumping out of gear going down the main road. it will jump in and out of gear and just stops shifting. have to turn engine off then back on for it to go back into gear and sometimes that still does not work. almost got hit from the rear because it jumped out of gear.

Gm has recalled (fire hazard) 6 models for a small oil leak onto the exhaust manifold but did not include the buick rendezvous. my rendezvous doesn't drip a 'few' drops onto the exhaust manifold it 'coats' the whole underside of the vehicle all the way to the rear wheels. i have to carry a 5 quart jug of oil with me to re-fill. going to the dealer inquiring about a fix they asked me if i lived on a dirt road. i'm totally confused as to what that had to do with anything....but no, i don't live on a dirt road. with the severity of this leak compared to the 'recalls' it seems that gm should be liable for the fix. with that being said i'm sure there are other owners with the same problem. if the engine is running it's leaking, the motion of the vehicle just pushes the oil further to the rear. i don't have pictures now but i can get them.

Driving down the road over heat light comes on tried everything took to service and head caskets need replaced! 28 days after purchasing a used as is vehicle!everything i had to purchase a junk.looks good on the outside and run good for first few weeks even took to midas before purchasing all the fixes all very well hidden.

It started overheating , a very reputable mechanic checked it , said it was possible radiator , then said said may be gaskets . i saw where others had overheating problems on the internet . will the company pay for this to be fixed and are their other safety issues with this car i have a disabled son and do not want to be out in it and have it catch fire or worse .a older lady owned it and her sister sold it to us when she had to go into the nursing home its been well taken of its a four door.

Valet person was parking my rendezvous in dec 2012 and said as he applied the brakes to stop he noticed flames coming from hood. 2,000 in damages. my biggest complaintis that i have had to replace the head gaskets twice in the past six years. i keep being told there should have been a recall because gm has been aware of this problem. i cannot afford to purchase a new car now with all the repairs ive put into this, and its probably not worth much. we have always bought gm vehicles but we may think long and hard because once their off the lot it seems no one cares and no one wants to back up their product.

I shut my driver side door and the drivers side air bag in the drivers seat deployed. i am a ase master tech with 8 years experience at a gm dealer. i don't believe this should of happened. my wife and 2 kids were in the car at the time of deployment. thankfully there were no injuries. im very worried about having the system repaired because im afraid there will be another false deployment. im worried we wont be so lucky next time and if will be a frontal deployment into our faces. *tr

1st occasion (3/11/11): i was driving east bound on a freeway, in the right lane, and at a speed of approximately 45 miles per hour. i also had my two young boys (ages 4 and 7) in the car with me. i had to brake suddenly when traffic backed up unexpectedly and it was at that moment my brakes failed and i had to veer off the right shoulder and up onto the embankment and fortunately did not crash into another car. i had minimal brake power. my regular repair shop was about 3 miles away and was able to very slowly drive my car there. the brake line on abs pump to right wheel had to be replaced. 2nd occasion (2/28/13): i was driving east bound in the right lane of a busy road during rush hour traffic. i was going about 30 miles per hour. i had to brake hard for traffic backed up at an intersection. again, my brakes failed and fortunately there was enough distance for me stop before hitting the car in front of me. i had minimal brake power. at the intersection i turned right, heading south bound and then was able to safely pull into a parking lot and park my car. this time i had to be towed to my repair shop. the same brake line failed “ the brake line on the abs pump to right wheel had to be replaced again. *tr

5 minutes after being on the highway at 70 miles per hour the vehicle started dropping speed and message center started showing low battery, lights problem, service engine soon, brake fluid low, windshield wiper fluid low, low tire pressure, security service. also, when i come to a stop the engine shuts off by itself as a low power, few minutes later, starts back up and can keep driving but hitting the gas pedal and releasing it after a few seconds at a time to recharge the battery so it would not shut off again. also, after this happened the emergency lights began to come on and off by themselves. took to a mechanic to have it serviced they said to replace the battery and alternator and if problems continued the starter. few months later after replacing these parts, it started giving me problems with low fan as if the relays were bad but they are in good condition, low battery fuel and had to be changed again because the battery was not retaining charge. the vehicle still has all the messages in the message center, they never went away. then within the last month i wanted to have the radio replaced, but i found out the speakers have power coming straight from the battery to the radio that causes it to overheat and makes static when the radio is on while driving. also, the neutral safety switch for the ignition key got burned so now it is not working but still has allowed for the car to turn on and off and dry. a week ago, 04/28/14 the vehicle has been showing an error message in the message center, every light possible in the message center about the services that need to be done come on, which i assume now is the body control module that has gone bad. most frequent message is security. gas gauge goes up and down and never gives an accurate reading of how much is in the vehicle. *tr

Had battery replaced during routine maintenance. after two days the car would not start battery was dead. after the 3rd battery we took the cat to the dealer. thet checked everything said it was the battery again!!! so we had it replaced at that time. we also had them fix the abs for the 3rd time in 5 years. the car was at home two days later would not start! had it checked this time it was a module and then the dash cluster wnet out while they were fixing the car. still same problems took the car out again this time after gm called us. they kept the car for three weeks, said it was a short in the stereo. now 1 week later car is dead again!!!!! *tt

I am a 70 year old woman. this is the last car my husband purchased before he lost his battle with cancer in 2009. he is a retiree from gm. he left me what i thought was a good car. i went out to start to go to my daughters in another town that day my car was dead! no lights nothing. my son took me got a battery car seem to run okay that evening. the next day or two dead again! well this time i had to wait a week or so for help! after 5 batteries we took my car to the dealership. they charged me like crazy for diagnostics and checked my battery, starter, and alternator! they said my battery was bad! so 170 dollars for that then my breaks needed done my tires needed air or sealed, list of things. so okay battery done car running fix breaks etc. 2000,00 later two days later car is dead! take it to dealership again! 1 week later now they say more testing, find a module gone bad 600.00 more! come get car its dead! wait 2 more days! battery again! get it home 1 week later car is dead! has to dealership again! do you see the pattern, this is over a 2- 3 month period! cold cold weather only! now the next recurring problem! 5 times replacing the awd harnesses and misc parts! and since all the trouble at dealership now they want more money for more test! that they should have already done! day 1! and now my cluster behind my dash is bad and my check engine light has come back on! please help me! thanks *tr

Bought used in 2004 with 45k miles. in 2006 i had to have the window control replaced. in 2009 at 70k miles i had to have main gasket on engine replaced (was told buick knew of problem but refused recall) and 2 heads replaced as kept losing coolant & overheating. the very next year the body control module went out & had to be replaced. the abs light has been on for years & no body, not even the dealer who replaced the control module, can get it to go out. last year the fuel gauge quit working. this year the left front hub has gone bad at 170k so i can't say it wasn't due, but the overheating gauge keeps going into the red & the overheat light comes. had it check and the thermostat is working fine, i am not losing coolant and the coolant is good, & there is no water in my oil. i can't drive more than 2 miles without the overheating light coming on & the gauge going into the red. *tr

I am the owner of a 2002 rendezvous, my name is, i went an got a oil change a few mos back & found out i had a leak at my fuel fill neck/fuel tank. i did research & found out that from 2002-2007 there was a problem with these parts with my make. there was a special service coverage extended on this. http://www.faqs.org/car/buick-rendezvous-2002/fuel-system/ i contacted customer relations rep alvin (ext 13040) service request # 71-11433-55671, i was told me that my coverage ended 2/2012 (unknown to me) but that he would manage to help me get it repaired after i went to a certified buick repair shop to get a diagnostic. if it is indeed the issue then it would be covered since i wasnt too far past the extension date (even with my make and mileage 130,000) he assured me he would help getting it repaired whether it was discount srvc or fully covered. i did go and get it diagnosed "checked & verified concern found fuel leak at fill neck to fuel tank" so i held tight with no worries. until received a call yesterday from buick customer relations stating if i want any repairs i will be needing to pay the full service price 1188.74 for the fuel tank and $300 for the evaporation to body connector that coincides with the fuel tank. i tried explaining everything but in her there was no budge..i am the father of a 2 & 4yr old and baby on the way whom ride in our only means of transportation with a leaking fuel tank...in total disarray. i am in sure need of other options because we are literally afraid to drive, but it is a must to provide for my family

Car is reluctant to move at low speeds (25/30 mph). gear moves very reluctantly into higher gear. hear loud cluttering noises from gear box, metals grinding against each other. this causes slowing the traffic and feel as if someone will hit me from behind. feel unsafe to drive. safety issue. *tr

Got abs & tcs lights and either "traction system active" or "service traction system". two dtc codes c0036 & c0245. ck'd left wheel sensor per buick service manuals by disconnecting connector at wheel hub & ck'd ok. no problem again for more than a year. recently got same lights abt & tcs and master light (ck traction system). also, concurrent got a thumping sound from left front of vehicle over bumps & when applying brakes. also, when turning left/right the abs pump would turn on (felt thru steering wheel). scan tool confirmed left wheel solenoid activated during test drive. ck'd the front wheel sensors ac voltage out put per buick service manuals & found left wheel sensor output at 150 mvac and right wheel sensor at 120mvac for "approx" same wheel speed; spec is 100mvac when "spinning wheel" (no speed of wheel in spec!). other sensor cks (open, shorts to ground, short to voltage, shorted together) all ok. during long trip (400miles) problem (abs,tcs, etc) lights never came on. problems that occurred during local/short trips totally went away during long trip???? sooooo what to do??? plan to change left front wheel hub as thumping in front end during braking (bearings?) hasn't gone away. *tr

There was and is a recall on the gas tanks of buick rendezvous since 2007. i was refused service by a dealer to check and inspect my gas tank. then when i took it back to another dealer i was charged $40 to have it looked at. in 2008 another recall was issued on the gas tank. indicating that the whole gas tank has to be replaced with a brand new one. i was never contacted by phone or mail or any other means that the gas tank on my vehicle has been recalled. i am requesting that i receive written documentation from gm that my vehicle's gas tank is included in the recall and that a dealer must replace it at not cost to me. *tr

Inlet check valve iicv) on the fuel storage tank is cracked and is leaking fuel onto the fuel tank and onto the ground, this is the same problem listed in nhtsa campaign # 07v349000 and buick's, safety product bulletin 06230. on 12/04/2007 a recall was issued for replacement of the tank on the buick rendezvous, 2002 on only certain vehicles. when i called gm they said my vehicle was not covered under the recall, as they have done with numerous other owners who have to bear the cost of from $1,000.00 to $1,400.00 my estimate to replace the tank. first why isn't my vehicle part of the recall and second who decides what vehicles are eligible. this default is prevalent in all 2002 rendezvous and there should be no time limit restriction on failure of the fuel tank. this is a major fire safety hazard and needs to be corrected by gm. i never received the notice of the defect so i could have been driving the vehicle and it could have caught fire and who know what would have happened. a recall notice should be issued on all 2002 rendezvous before someone is seriously injured or their house burns down from the fumes be ignited by an ignition source where they park the vehicle. *tr ## vin failed ##

My vehicle warms up fine and as i start to drive the engine temp rises to a hot condition and the heater starts to blow cold air. the system has been flushed, the heater core has been flushed, thermostat has been changed. i've been doing alot of research on these problems and there are thousands of overheating problems that never go away. it doesn't matter what you fix the problem reoccurs. i flushed the system and couldnt get it to repeat until a couple days later, then i changed the thermostat with the same result. i never get a warning light for coolant temp but engine temp increases and car will stall and wont restart until it cools down. after 2 weeks of working with this i have the vehicle parked and trying to figure out why gm does not recall these cars and fix them. i was told the only way to completely fix this problem is a new 3.4l engine from gm. who can afford that, not me. i have contacted buick but nothing but a report was filed and added to the pile of other complaints. if this happened at 70 mph on a highway it could be very dangerous. *tr

Main computer failed and has been displaying "error" for yrs. the exact mileage is unknown. leaking gaskets and intake valve. the most current issue is the leaking gas tank. the gauge is also wrong. the smell of gas is nauseating. there is a recall for this issue, but not my vin. gm couldn't possibly care less and it infuriates me that the government bailed them out. i will never buy gm again!! fortunately for them, i live in a state where there is tort reform and can't get in on the class action lawsuit. i have also spent lots of $ on this lemon and can't afford to fix it or replace it. hopefully i won't catch fire or blow up! it's no wonder why most people buy foreign cars, they are made better!!! i will be contacting an atty. to pursue a suit against them as an individual. they can also expect complaints on every avenue i can find. i also call them relentlessly and make sure they record all my complaints and concerns. best of luck to all....so unfortunate. *tr

Note: "service traction system soon" "anti-lock", and the "traction" lights lights began to come on, then off. ocassionally ,there would be a vibration on the brake pedal when the brakes were applied. i had my son-in-law drive it but none of these things occured. nest time i was driving all these lights came on then off and the brakes made the vibation. i drove it to the garage where i buy my tires and where they do service vehecles and asked them to check out all these problems. he drove it around the blocks but no lights came on nor did the brakes vibrate. he pulled a wheel but could not find anything wrong. a few days later the lights came on again and when i applied the brakes, the brakes would not stop the car and caused me to rear-end the car ahead who was stopped at the red light. my suv was totalled but thankfully there were no injuries but after my problem, i discovered a forum on line and there are blogs describing the abs, traction system problem in the buick suv so why did gm fail to recall these vehicles? i wonder if there have been any major injuries or even deaths as the result of the brakes failing? *tr

I had the car 2 weeks & the window regulator/motor in my drivers window stopped working. but was told it was not covered. i only had about 49,000 miles on it. at 75,000 my fuel gauge went out, that was replaced, but was told that my gas tank had been leaking. which explains the gas smell when i filled my tank up. i thought it was just where some might have gotten on the outside. then i read there is a recall, however, buick told me that they were not going to replace mine. a new one is 1,800. i can't afford that. at 80,000 1 of my back wheel hubs & assembly went out & i needed a new universal belt, so both were replaced.85,000 the second wheel hub & assembly went out. that too replaced. at 101,000 my transmission started slipping a little. had it flushed & filter changed, helped for about a day, then started again. awd light started coming on & going off, coming on & going off. blew 2 fuses in my car, nothing would work. at 101,000 car went from a normal temp.(just got off work, had not even drove 2 miles) to hot, pulled over, oh guess what thermostat stopped working, it was leaking coolant, cracked a header. that too replaced. check engine light came on around 108,000, now what, o2 censor, fuel pump, intake manifold, and catylic converter. all replaced too. when i start my car, sometimes it won't start. so i have to pop the hood & move wires around and play with the battery post to get it to start. i thought it was the battery but its not, because i have replaced that too. when your driving down the road at about 60, and turn the wheel either right or left, the steering wheel will shake, & you can feel something that feels like a rattle under your feet. i want to get rid of it so bad, but i have finally got it down to where hopefully i can trade it in, because the extra money i was planning on using to pay it off, has had to go into it to fix it. *js

The headlights, dashboard instrument cluster, and radio, cd player, interior lights, and tail lights on my 2002 buick, rendezvous kept going out for no apparent reason while driving on the freeway. i took the car to the shop and they said it is the body control module. it is my opinion that this malfunction is a very serious problem. in my situation the several times that the lights went out, i was in a dangerous place (on curvey highway between pennsylvania and ohio at speeds between 55-70mph) the situation when the headlights and dash lights were out could have had fatal consequences especially when tall hills surround curvey freeways and roads and such as a deer crossing the road or worse yet, a person on the side of the road. the problem is still occurring and the bcm keeps malfunctioning every few minutes turning off all lights and dashboard clusters and it costs too much for me to fix-almost $1400. *tr

No brakes, brake line rusted and burst, due to it being under fire wall, according to the mechnaic the fire wall gets wet and this causes rust to set in. the brake line was not visible to mechanic to do an inspection during regular safety checks. since the line was not visible there is no way to tell if it is viable. thankfully we felt the brakes go soft and stopped safely. this is a poor design, and am not sure how many more cars are designed in a similar manner.

I own a 2002 buick rendezvous. i have had nothing but problems with the vehicle. the first problem was the speedometer going well over 100mph when i was only driving like 20 or 30. all the lights in the vehicle flashes on and off. the heat sometimes works and sometimes dont it overheats.now the biggest problem is the intake manifold gasket went on me. i called gm and they told me that they didnt show any recalls nor ever had any complaints. however, i read the complaints online about the same vehicle that i have and clearly have all the same problems. so the question is why didnt this vehicle in nys have any recalls for the manifold gasket. it's weird to me because in canada they had a class action lawsuit for faulty intake manifold gaskets on the 2002 buick rendezvous. can someone get some answers. it will be greatly appreciated. *tr

Bought my buick 2002 rendezvous a year ago with only 45,000 miles on it give or take. it was great until about 6 months into owning it when all of a sudden the lights would flash off driving at night (very unsafe) then when i would go to turn off the vehicle the lights won't shut off at all... they would flash and carry on the whole time i was driving. then the service engine light came on and then the security light. one day the locks started clicking on and off....the radio locked up.. the air conditioning won't work... the horn stays on so loud it is deafening and frightening to all cars around you... it is so loud you can't hardly stand it... it won't shut off.. went to buick dealer they said it would cost probably close to 1000 to fix... til they diagnosed it... another garage couldn't even figure out how i was going to shut off the lights... i told them to please disconnect the battery cable to at least reset it...my son is a mechanic and asked around and found out it is a common problem with this buick model and year and is the body control module and happens a lot in gm vehicles. this is a very dangerous thing.. lights going off while driving.. lights staying on to cause battery to die... horn blowing so loudly..it is unbelievable. and there is no recall.. this is so wrong. when you research online you see many owners with these same issues... to me this is a safety concern and not right that people who may not have the money to fix this are stuck with it and are unsafe. gm knows that this part is going out a lot in their vehicles and they do not recall it. i feel this is a huge safety concern... all of the things that flash in the vehicle on and off are very distracting while you are driving.. especially having no lights. *tr

Anti-lock brake sensor failed which caused excessive movement in the brake pedal when stopping. in addition, this sensor caused the traction control system to disengage and created difficulty in stopping the vehicle. in some instances the brake pedal would depress all the way to the floor of the vehicle when attempting to stop. buick would not honor the warranty on this part. as a result, i paid $700 for the repair on this part. *tr

My 2002 buick rendezvous had complete brake failure a few months ago. luckily i was only traveling about 10 miles an hour and was within a mile of home. the brake line had rusted out. this car was stored in a garage when not driven and has been in florida for two years. the buick dealership implied that this is just common wear and tear. there was no warning, and no repair shop that did work on the car ever indicated this rusting of the brake line was happening. car had about 100,000 miles on it. i have also been through three control modules, luckily covered under warranty. also, because i got an extended warranty at time of purchase, the air conditioning, the head gasket and various other problems were covered. this 2002 model definitely has some specific and expensive and dangerous problems. lately, it's calmed down. great car for comfort, and roomy for carrying household items. too bad toyota didn't make it. *tr

We purchased this vehicle used in 2004, and over the past years we have had to replace the following: both front hub assemblies (with speed sensors), intake manifold gasket and the air conditioner condenser (one year ago). just within the last 2 months we have had to replace the following: tie-rod, radiator, water pump, thermostat, head gasket, and the intake manifold gasket again. the vehicle only has 86,000 miles on it to date. the only thing that we had the buick dealer work on was the front hub assemblies, the rest of the work was performed by tire dealership, radiator shop, and an automotive repair garage. now, the abs light is on again meaning that one of the front hub assemblies are out (replaced by buick themselves) and our anti-lock brakes are not working. and, also, the air-bag warning light is on. i have noticed quite a long list of complaints over the internet concerning all the above problems others have had as well with this model buick which leads me to believe that it has been an on-going problem of which buick will not deal with nor step up to their responsibility. i have been told by auto-repairmen that they have had numerous customers come in with problems with the 3400 model engine. i have contacted buick concerning the air-bag problem, and they act as though they have never heard of any problems and deny any responsibility to look into it, even though they have issued a recall on the air bag inflator for this year, make, and model, just not for my vin#. over the years that we have owned this vehicle we have invested quite a sum of money into repairs on this vehicle, and it has never been in an accident! i believe that with all the nhtsa safety complaints concerning the air bags system, buick should be held responsible! all the other unique problems with this engine have been repaired by us, and is too late to expect any help

I purchased a used 2002 buick rendezvous in april of 2004 from a gm dealership (above). it is an awd v6 cxl suv. my car manual specifically states not to use anything other than dexcool antifreeze. i never received any notice from gm or the dealership or dexcool regarding the problems on this vehicle and dexcool. even after the lawsuit against gm in 2008 i did not get notified in any way, and the dealership never told me to stop using dexcool, so i have been continuing to experience engine problems! when i bought this car it had 37,591 miles on it. i paid just under $20,000 for it. on 12/8/05 i did a transmission flush. four months later, on march 9, 2006, the car was found to have the intake manifold gaskets leaking oil and coolant, and the front timing cover seal was leaking. it also needed front and rear brakes. at that time they told me the coolant was leaking all over everything and was getting into the transmission (and the brakes, too, i think.) had to have another transmission flush done and i think coolant flush done - cost was $222. i had 3 estimates done for the rest of the work and they ranged from $3,300, to 1700 to $1,380. it cost me $89 and $73 for two of the estimates. had work done at 4th shop on 4/20/06, cost me $730. on august 22, 2007, i had to have the intake gasket done again as well as a coolant flush; cost me $492. on august 11, 2009 i had to have the oil pressure switch replaced as it was leaking plus other work; total was $257. i was told about a year ago that the intake gasket was leaking oil and coolant again and had to be replaced again. the car did not pass inspection in june, 2010; one of the problems is transmission is slipping. is that a result of the dexcool coolant contaminating the tranny? other work needed is steering rack (again), air compressor, & rear air shocks. the coolant leaking has caused the failure of many of the parts i have had to have fixed on this car, not just the gasket. *tr

Main brake line between front brakes rusted through and all brakes were lost instantly. according to brake mechanic, the line runs under the firewall and has insulation wrapped around the line. the insulation retains moisture and allows it to start the rust process. brake failure would be sudden and without warning. brake failure occurred in this situation when vehicle was being backed out of a parking stall and brakes were applied. brake pedal went to the floor with little or no brake response. my wife and grandson were in the car. if this had happened on the freeway, they could have been killed with the sudden and total loss of brakes. *tr

2002 buick rendevous, electrical and head gasket purchased this car over a year ago so far had to replace transmission and repair transmission x2, needs head gaskets due to my car overheating gradually, have to bleed the system for air pretty much every other day to get heat in the car. my computer has been replaced 6 months after purchasing it after being unable to clear itself of the codes. this last incident the battery died and since now the computer is running the car causing my car to run in park at 3 rpm's, in neutral it shoots up to 4500, it drives about 2-2.5 rpms. the computer was cleared and reset last night rpm's dropped to about 760 still elevated but ok, then started it this morning to take my daughter to school and it drove itself, stalling as i watched the computer run through as it was possessed, i have since called the car "christine". i can see the computer running the car, as the rpms elevate and then decrease, shutting the car down etc, i can not believe that there is no recalls as this is so dangerous. there are no codes relating to this issue, no transmission, engine issues, this is completely computer related. i had someone with a complex system delete all codes and have the computer relearn itself. it worked. started it this morning and started all over. between the computer and heating and cooling system, this car is a constant headache not to mention i have had this car in the repair shop more than i have been able to drive it especially since i'm still paying on it.

I purchased 2002 rendezvous in 2002. it began in the second year i could not believe that i would be replacing the radiator and condenser assembly. each year following i was shelling out major bucks in repairs. each year there was something wrong with either the heat or the air conditioner. from replacing sensors, thermostat to water pumps. each year i have had to replace the brakes and rotors and had the hub bearing replaced once. in 2009 i began to have problems with the engine and electrical. i had the head gaskets replaced and once again problems with heat and replaced the blower motor resistor. in december of 2009 the driver side window no longer works. then in january 2010 despite my efforts in taking very good care of my car with regular scheduled maintenance, the engine took a finial dump. the cam shaft broke inside the engine that pumps the oil without any warning. i was left stranded and carless. i received a recall notice regarding the hub bearings but did not qualify because of the mileage. i was never notified on the recall for the dex coolant and when i found out it was too late. in my recent research i found that there was a recall for the head gaskets that closed in april of 2009, i was never notified. i did receive a recall for the fuel fill tube which is good for 10 years or 150,000 miles and i do qualify, however, i don¿t have an engine! i called buick consumer relations 1-800-521-7300, and they said the only recall they have is for the lift gate latch. i feel that gm should reopen the recalls for the dex coolant, hub bearings and the head gaskets. i am looking for some recourse because in no way should the cam shaft broken. *tr

Just purchased a 2002 buick rendezvous 4 months ago and have had nothing but issues with this car, it left me stranded and started up by a jump start. i got the battery, alternator, and starter checked all reported fine. car ran fine for about 2 months then it did it again. the headlights will flicker at night sometimes at a rhythm. the interior lights decided when they will and will not work. mainly the seat heater buttons. replaced battery yesterday and while driving to richmond va all interior/exterior lights flashed on and off with the battery light showing in the dash. after a few minutes everything went back to normal. these cheaply made vehicles will cause a serious accident if not deaths if these companies don't stand behind what they put out to it's public. considering that i owe 5000.00 for it i will not put alot into it to keep it running. this company needs to fix their vehicles the way they were advertised. *tr

I own a 2002 buick rendezvous and on many (at least once per month for the last 3 yrs) occasions driving (especially at night), the power goes out to all the outside and inside lights and the car seems to do a system reboot. we've been scared out of our mind and have to pull over to remedy it (by unplugging battery and putting it back on) we've had the whole car shut off, lose power steering and nearly run off an embankment. we've taken it to mechanics, but it still happens. other website complaints show it is the body control module and gm is aware of it, but no recall has occurred. i am attempting to get this looked at now, but after looking at the website complaints, i'm not the only one dealing with this. these have all been near-misses for our family and one was extremely scary when you have an 18-wheeler coming at you with not lights and no power steering at night. please move forward and have gm do something about this before it results in something more severe than near-miss accidents. *tr

I own a 2002 buick rendezvous with 86,000 miles. ever since i have had the vehicle i have had problems with the abs system, having it fixed over & over. about a month ago my vehicle began overheating all the time. since my extended warranty has expired taking it though the dealership i am sure would cost me mucho bucks which i do not have. my neighbor is a top licensed mechanic who has worked for a chrysler dealership for 30 plus years. he took the vehicle to work with him one day last week to see if he could locate the problem.. he informed me i had a leak in my intake manifold and it needs to be replaced. he checked to see if gm had any recalls for the problem, low and behold they did not. after telling me how much it would cost to replace it, i nearly passed out. i am a single woman and since the economy has fallen i have had to take 3 pay cuts at work. it was either take the paycuts or look for a new job. i can hardly even i have pay my mortgage, let alone pay for a major issue with my vehicle. i purchased gm cars before with no problems . i believe gm should stand up for their vehicles and fix the issue for me. i now understand there are many people out there that have this same issue. *tr

2002 buick rendezvous with approx. 80k miles at time of failure. at approximately 40mph while exiting the freeway, the front brakes failed totally. i was (barely) able to stop the vehicle safely due to the relatively low speed at the time of the failure. it is pure luck that there was not an accident or fatality. the brake failure was due to a rusted out front brake line that runs from left to right behind the engine and against the firewall. it is impossible to see unless the vehicle is on a lift. the ruptured brake line was replaced by shelton pontiac at a cost of $620. when gm was contacted about the failure, they took the position that rust was normal and it was the owner's responsibility to inspect the brake lines and replace as necessary. they refused to acknowledge a problem or to help with the repair cost in any way whatsoever. *tr

I have a 2002 buick rendezvous with 52,650 miles on it. in the past 3 months i have had to have the body control module, a rt frt wheel speed sensor replaced. when i had it in for the speed sensor replaced, the gm shop found that the intake manifold is leaking and must be repaired @ a cost od $1000.00 and then maybe the head gaskets may need to be replaced due to the type od gaskets that gm used and the dex-cool anti freeze used i by gm. this has been a problem for several years and numerous complaints have been filed. a class action suit was filed but no one--no one notified the public about it until it was to late to get in on it. i think that there needs to be a forced recall to correct this problem. tax payers have bailed out gm and we get stuck with a faulty product. i contacted gm and in the end they refused to make good or even admit this problem has existed since they started to use dexcool. *tr

While traveling home for spring break. my 2002 buick rendezvous experienced electrical problems and stalled on the highway. i purchased this vehicle in december 2008 and it is still under warranty. i had the vehicle towed from stockton ca to tracy ca where it remains awaiting a service authorization to be fixed from my contract holder. the mechanic at the tracy dealership stated the battery was dead, the oil was very low and that the engine had internal problems that would require him to dismantle or replace the engine. this particular vehicle is listed in many complaints in the data base here and has serious mechanical / electrical issues. to date march 29, 2009 i am awaiting service and a resolution. nothing has been done to correct the issue to date. *tr

My wife and i purchased a 2002 buick rendezvous and we've had issues with it not starting up once being turned off. it does it quite often. if we travel to different stores or appointments that require, estimating here, more than 2 hrs driving then we are stuck in that location. we've had it towed to a trust auto shop (grismer tire) and a buick dealership and neither can find a problem with it when it stops on us. we've checked the recall list for rendezvous for anything pertaining to this problem and the 2004 model does the exact same thing as our vehicle, but there is a recall for that year but not the 2002. it also state that this happens while driving and we thank the lord that we haven't experienced that. we spoke with someone from gm and they say to take back to the dealership when this occurs and have the dealership contact them, but with the economy being the way that it is we would have to save money to afford the price of them putting it on the machine to try and diagnose the problem. we are also frighten to drive the vehicle more than a few miles now due to reading that if could also cut off at anytime. we are also aware that there many owners of this vehicle that experiencing the same problem with no resolution or help from gm. *tr updated 05//05/10. *jb

At 54,000 miles and only 2 weeks after the purchase of this vehicle the head gasket had to be replaced. after only 80,000 miles the transmission was replaced. the blower for the heat or air conditioner only works on three or above, the air conditioning no longer works, both rear coil springs must be replaced, an outer tierod is bad, two rear bushings need to be replaced, the front right control arm is broken, the drivers side window goes down but not up, it is leaking antifreeze and the tires keep going bad because they are wearing incorrectly. this car is a total piece of garbage. every time i turn around it needs another repair. the cost of the repairs is almost as much as i have paid on the vehicle so far. *tr

My husband had driven the vehicle about 2 miles when all of a sudden it began overheating and a warning light came on. he returned home and the following day we took it to a shop. the mechanic checked everything. could not find the source. we finally had to have it towed to a gm dealer. they say that the head gasket is blown. however, they say that we should buy a new engine at a cost of $5131.00, because according to them with the hollow cam it will only be a matter a time before the head blows again. i researched and found this is a common problem with this vehicle. i was not notified of the dexcool lawsuit and have received no definite help from buick customer assistant. additionally, 3 of 4 window motors have gone out. through my research i find this too is a common problem. when the 2 second motor went out, i had a local window repair man lock the window so that it would no longer drop down, because i could not afford the repair. i have had repeated brake/rotor/tire work, so called "spark plug misfires" and expensive electrical repairs. i consistently service and perform routine maintenance on the vehicle. as of today, the vehicle has less than 91,000 miles on it, but is completely inoperable. *tr

After buying the car from a gm dealer in july 2004 one year later the ac system leaked and blowout the whole electrical board of ac which had to be replaced and never worked properly. then in june of 2008 the thermostat needed to be replace. then in august of 2008 a radiator hose needed to be replaced. then in september of 2008 the intake manifold and gaskets had to be replaced. in november 2008 the rendezvous is continuing to overheat. the car has been checked and the coolant pressure cap replaced but still the car continues to overheat the minute you start to drive it. i have had several mechanics check and they can not find anything wrong. in december of 2008 the rendezvous continues to overheat. it is january 1, 2009 and i am taking it into the shop again. i have read that the a/c system on the 2002 rendezvous is a major issue which gm is aware of but continues to ignore due to the fact that the car is no longer under warranty. i believe that they should be responsible for this. and if they do not want to take the responsibility on their own then someone should make them accountable. *tr

I own a 2002 rendezvous that has intake manifold / head gasket issue. i have condensation under the oil cap and have been told that this problem was part of a class action lawsuit as the result of dexcool antifreeze deteriorating the intake manifold and thus damaging the head gasket. it is now way past the class action filing deadline and am left to pay for the repairs myself. gm service departments have acknowledged that this is a problem with the 3.4l engines yet is not owning up to their responsibility by remedying the defect. build a faulty product and get off scott free. the only time it seems the auto companies take responsibility is when someone is seriously injured or dies. sad to say the least. *tr

I've had problems with this car since i purchased it in june 2005. first it was the fuel pump/sender,then came the brakes and traction system failure. i've many close calls, and had taken the car to a certified gm mechanic 5-7 times, to no avail. i'm still dealing with the brakes and traction system failure til this day. i will be getting rid of this as soon as i can get it good enough to sale...i will never buy another buick as long as i live. this was one of the biggest mistakes i've made. i've called the customer service center in the states and this is what they have said to me "since you're overseas, there's nothing we can do about it, sir". i've served my country and sm still doing my part as a civilian. and i can't get any good service. wow!! *tr

The rear hatch door unlocks by itself from the body computer problem when you first start the car also other things that are controlled by this unit work or don't work including air bags sys outside temp air cond. cooling fans among others. if you shut the car off and turn it on it goes away until you shut the car off. *tr

We filled the gas tank up and parked it in the house garage, that night the house filled with the smell of gas, leaked on the floor .thankfully the gas water heated is off the floor or alot more than gas would have been lost.. i have not been able to afford to have it fixed at this time so it is parked outside and only small amounts of gas is put in at a time. *tr

Had to replace the intake manifold gasket due to dexcool antifreeze issues on the 3.4 l v-6 of my 2002 buick rendezvous. i saw where there had been a class action suit filed but i never received notification from gm or the dealer where i bought the car. according to the class action web-site, the date for filing a claim has expired. i have had the intake manifold gasket replaced at a cost of $747. according to several internet sites, this was a problem that gm was aware of but never notified their customers. the mechanic told me (substantiated by the internet sites) that dexcool destroyed the intake manifold gaskets and this problem could happen again. i plan to contact gm directly, but wanted to file this complaint first. *tr

I have a 2002 buick renv. and i bought it from a used car dealer in albany ny, i have had to return the car 2 times for different problems, once was the check engine light and it came on 3 hours after i bought the car, they told me that they already took care of it but they did not, so they did fix that, there were a few other problem they fixed, but the big problem came the other day when it was raining i came out to find a leaky sunroof, so i took it to be sealed and come to find out the whole roof of the car is rusty, it needs almost 2,000 dollars worth of work, and the people that i took the car to try to fix it told me that the car should have never been sold to me, and to return the car to the dealer, this roof could cave in, it is in that bad of shape, that is what i am told, while the repair shop was trying to seal in what they could, while this was being done the corner of the roof by the sunroof just came off now there is a hole in the roof, he told me that the roof could just crack any time, well i am stuck and i tried to return the car and the dealer will not take the car back, or repair it, i don't know what to do, so i am hoping someone can help me here. *tr

My 2002 buick rendezvous with 79,300 miles on it blew a head gasket. there was no warning on vehicle overheating. all of a sudden temp gauge was in the red zone and a warning light and sound came. i immediately pulled over and turned off the engine to check the manual. the manual said the vehicle needed to be serviced immediately. i was one mile from the dealership and drove straight there. they said the vehicle had a blown head gasket. repairs normally approx $1,800. dealer did it for $950 because my son-in-law works there. i was told this is a common problem with the rendezvous and my investigation reveals the same. a well maintained vehicle should not have a blown head gasket at 79,300 with no warning of the vehicle overheating. contacted buick customer service and was told there was nothing they would do as vehicle was outside of warranty. *tr

2002 buick rendezvous. dealership has informed me that bcm needs replacement. internet searches show me that this has been a problem for many owners. this is a very serious problem & i am just relieved that my family did not suffer any serious physical harm from the incident. car packed to bring son back to college. all of a sudden, while traveling at highway speed, all electrical controls seemed to stop. radio cut out, all windows became inoperable, air conditioning stopped, back hatch inoperable. control panel gave security alert and locked message across radio display. biggest problem was fact that we were traveling at high speed on interstate on a very hot day. no operable windows and no a.c. had to exit over to shoulder. took short spurts of stopping car to manually open doors for air, until we could return to our house. in the two weeks proceeding this incident, we had some sort of coil replaced in our steering column, and the car's battery replaced (already had replaced last year). car only has 77,000 miles on it. also were a victim of the rendezvous' cracked a/c condenser about 2 yrs ago. this car seems to have some major problems and there are tsbs on this stuff, but no recalls. this latest problem with the bcm was very scary and dangerous! even though getting replaced at nearly $1,000 to me, i am afraid of driving this car on the highway. it was like the car was possessed. *tr

Power window clips break or crack then window falls down and won't work. i have complained repeatedly about the grease stripes on windows and have been told the problem is universal with all rendezvous. not covered on warranty or extended warranty. *tr

Smelled gas in garage and moved our buick rendezvous and found gas on the floor under the gas tank and saw gas dripping from the gas tank. i took the vehicle to my local repair shop. it was determined after inspection the gas tank has fracture and allowed gas leak. the repair shop located the recall from gm. buick advised the repair shop and myself the tank was not part of the recall and would not be covered by buick. i had the repair shop replaced the fuel tank at my cost. failure to make the repair could have cause a fire. even though the vin number wasn't part of the recall it should have been covered by buick because the defect was consistent with the defective fuel tanks of the recall. *tr

I have been having intermittent problems with the abs brake system whereby when i apply the brakes at a slow speed of about 5-mph the vehicle feels like i am stopping on a gravel road when i am driving on clean dry pavement, also when this happens the vehicle doesn't stop like it should and it slides to a halt. also sometimes when you apply the brakes while driving under 35 mph and apply the brakes the vehicle shutters and doesn't stop properly. i sometimes get the anti-lock indicator light and sometimes i don't. i also will get a warning light that states; "service traction system". i have taken the vehicle in to have it serviced and i am told that they can not duplicate the problem and that they don't know what could be causing it. they said to continue to drive the vehicle and as far as they can tell it is safe to drive. the mileage on the odometer was approximately 85,000 miles. *tr

We have a buick rendezvous. the car's interior lights go off without warning, and it becomes impossible to see dashboard lights, including speedometer, at night. other times, horn will start blaring for several minutes with no warning...almost caused an accident yesterday...it startles anyone around. now, when we turn off the car, the headlights won't go off at all, no matter what we try. will have a dead battery next time we go to drive the car (tomorrow morning). *tr

Was informed by a friend of an ntmvsa-related recall (number 07273) on their 2003 pontiac vibe for a problem that has been happening on both of our 2002 and 2003 buick rendezvous. window hardware deteriorates, resulting in the snapping of window support hardware. in most cases window glass drops totally inside the door and is irretrievable unless taken to the dealer, who charges for a repair. this has happened twice about a week apart in our 2002 rendezvous. also, the characteristic "popping or clicking sound" listed in the recall is happening on the driver's side window in both our 2002 and 2003 model rendezvous, signaling that the window hardware is failing again. this results in a hazard situation in either extremely hot or extremely cold weather, regardless of glass breakage (which didn't happen in our case). since i do not have a gm factory custom warranty on my 2002 rendezvous, repairs have cost me approximately $250 dollars out-of-pocket. i was able to secure a coverage letter from gm if this happens again, but i am reading many accounts of a similar failure from many rendezvous owners on the internet. *tr

Alarm goes off any time you lock doors, can't open locks without using keys so can't open rear doors to get my kids out. light will not shut off, exterior thermostat is inaccurate, a/c does not work at all times. door unlock buttons do not work all the time. car goes into security mode, so no a/c, no clock, no stereo. trunk pops open by itself. the interior door alarm won't go off even when door is closed. need to disconnect batteries at times to shut off lights. *tr

Starting sometime at the end of october 2007 into november of 2007 my 2002 buick rendezvous started having starting problems associated with the security system. vehicle would intermittently not would be hard to start or not start at all. if jumped off the alarm system would go off. sometimes the radio would not come on, a/c would not come on, lights would flash, etc. in late november the vehicle finally went haywire and started blowing the horn, lights blinking and lights not going off after vehicle was turned off. disconnected battery repeatedly to reset until that would no longer work. took it to the dealer to have it checked. was told it was the bcm. had bcm replaced and reprogrammed. on march 14, 2008, vehicle started doing the same things that lead up to this part being replaced. am taking it in again this week if i can keep it started. doing this complaint because after reading various internet blogs, forums and chats this problem seems to be a recurring problem for many 2002 buick rendezvous'. *tr

On my 2002 buick rendezvous the a/c would not cool. went to mechanic. added coolant and test dye for leaks. found a/c condenser to have a leak. bought new condenser and installed it. upon further investigation on the internet it was suggested that a complaint be filed here due to the overly excessive incidents involving the a/c condenser on the model vehicle. *tr

I have experienced a series of mechanical failures on my vehicle since the year i purchased it. the latest incident was 02/15/08 wherein the lights on the vehicle console began to flash...engine coolant light, change oil, battery-the vehicle then began to slow down approaching 42mph (the car had regular maintenance on 02/08/08). this occurred on highway 680 southbound during rush hour traffic. the vehicle has been serviced repeatedly for the same issue with no remedy more than five times. i now feel at risk and feel the vehicle is a safety hazard. the car completely shut down on me 08/30/07 in triple digit heat on highway 680 northbound. i had the vehicle towed to the dealership for service. i was told the problem was a faulty fuel filter. the filter was replaced and the problem recurred about 3 or 4 weeks later. the dealership and gm tell me that since they cannot duplicate the problem, there is nothing they can do. the previous time i had my vehicle serviced for mechanical failure, my husband picked the vehicle up for repair and he experienced the same problem immediately after pulling off the delearship property. all of my services have been performed by the same dealership. all of my maintenance is current. there must be some reasonable explanation for this recurring problem, but no one seems to have an answer. i have had the computer/parts replaced twice within 6 months, fuel filters replaced, sensors replaced and a host of other items. i want to get rid of the vehicle at this point because i have to travel almost 30 miles one way to my place of employment. since gm says there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, i should at least be able to trade the current vehicle in at the highest trade-in value and purchase a vehicle of similar design and value. *tr

I reported a problem with a leak in my gas tank of my 2002 buick rendezvous as a result of a failure of a plastic weld last year. i was notified last august as a result of my letter that gm was recalling 20,594 rendezvous but only from certain states where the heat caused the weld to fail due to expansion and contraction. as my car was purchased in florida where the failure rate was not good enough for a recall my v.i.n. number was not included in this recall. i was told in sept by an n.h.s.t.a. representative that although i was not in the recall i would receive a service bulletin letter from gm and be entitled to a refund for the cost of this plastic piece of junk buick had installed. well i've been in contact with gm and the representative i am assigned to told me gm has no plans to reimburse me for the $700 plus i paid for the tank. ( i was successful to get them to reimburse my labor cost last august or so.) i can not speak with any gm executives as my gm contact informs me that their names and phone numbers are confidential. i have called the nhsta rep i worked with in the past and left voice mails but despite 3 such calls i have yet to receive a call back. beside writing my state senators and congressmen who else can help me to get my refund for a gas tank that should be as a safety factor the responsibility of gm not the consumer. *tr

Due to a persistent smell of gasoline in the vehicle and the check engine light coming on, we took the vehicle to our local repair shop. they detected a leak in fuel tank and had to replace the fuel tank. in december, i received a recall notice that described this problem as a manufacturer defect and that i may be eligible for reimbursement of the repairs. i sent the required documentation and have been getting the run around since. i have been told: 1. vin # not in recall - yes it is. and it has been registered in arizona for 3 years. 2. repairs not done by a gm certified dealer - nothing in the documentation i was sent stated only repairs done by a dealer certified repair shop would be honored 3. the team is reviewing it, but no one will give me a name or contact number for "the team". *cn

My 2002 rendezvous was purchased mid-year 2005. at first there were only small flickers in the headlights, like blinking quickly. the auto electrician said our battery was overcharging and replaced it. about 6 months ago,my car wouldn't start, no sound at all like the battery was dead. bought another battery and two days later it wouldn't start again. again electrician looked it over, could find nothing. soon my door locks began to lock and unlock by themselves even when the car was off and no one was in it. coming home one night on a very dark road, all of my lights went out, inside and out. there was no where to pull over and no outside lights. it scared me bad. the weather sensor would say there was ice on the road when it was 95 degrees outside. when it was really hot one day some kind of lock was put on my air conditioner ,power door locks and windows and i thought i'd suffocate before i got to work. the car did the sensor lock by itself. i have paid another 145 dollars to the auto electrician to try and trace what we thought was a ground fault. he ordered the electrical schematics and traced all grounds and could find nothing. the only way we could reset the computer was to unhook the battery, then hook it back up. i haven't driven this car in 6 weeks because it is so unreliable and dangerous to drive. i can't afford to keep paying people to fix something that we're not sure is the problem. from reading complaints on the internet, i'm not the only one dealing with this. someone needs to do something before there is a bad accident stemming from this. *tr

I bought my 02 buick rendezvous in oct of 05. it had 53k. i just hit 90k the largest part is highway miles from this passed year with several deaths in my family. to start with my passenger floor would get soaked. at first i thought the window was left down or the sunroof was leaking. i checked and the rubber is still intact and i can spray water on the roof and nothing leaks in. the tract around the sunroof is not wet. one morning my on star system had water dripping from it but no water was felt around the sun roof and the windshield sits below it. this had been going on since i got the car. now within the past 6 months everything on the car is failing. my driver door will not lock with the remote. this is a 300 motor. my coolant disappears from reserve with no sign of leaking. i had the check engine light come on and the first day off i had to go get it checked it went off. my ac stopped working. i have 3 kids and no ac in 100 weather suxs. had it charged and within 2 weeks back to no ac now after weeks of research i am finding out that the intake gaskets on this motor are made from nylon and the dex cool that is said to be used in it can eat them prematurely. i have been stranded on the highway because my car was over heating. the ac condenser is also known to go out regular. i just bought brand new tires in may and had the alignment done. i noticed that the front of my car has began to shake and the front left tire is ate up. i am wondering if this is the bearing problem that this vehicle was recalled for. i am not understanding why the government is not forcing gm to recall this vehicle. my research has found hundreds if not thousands of these problems. a class action lawsuit in canada not including the recall that canada has forced over this exact yr and model. i still owe a lot of money on this car and my repairs are almost more then what i owe. *jb

I have a 2002 buick rendezvous which has the exact same defect in the fuel tank at the inlet as described in the recent recall notice, gm recall no. 06230 and nhtsa campaign id no. 07v349000. i called the phone number for buick as described in the campaign notice and have been told by buick/gm that my rendezvous does not qualify as part of the recall; my vehicle is an earlier manufacture date than those in the notice. i was told that if i chose to pay for the repair myself that if my vehicle was ever introduced into the recall that i would be reimbursed for my expense. this repair and replacement of the fuel tank and inlet is nearly $1,000 according to my dealer. i have made temporary repairs, but feel that buick/gm is ignoring a more wide-spread problem with these vehicles than the recall indicates. my rendezvous is an early 2002, manufactured in mid 2001. i have been trying to get this resolved since october of 2006. any assistance would be appreciated. *tr a stress crack developed on the fuel filler inlet to the fuel tank at the icv coupling. updated 09/18/07. *jb

I am experiencing a gas leak at the fuel tank inlet filler pipe, just as the nhtsa investigation (ea07006) has described. this is very disturbing as my whole family is transported in this vehicle. it appears the leak is where the icv and fuel tank are joined. this is on my 2002 buick rendezvous cxl. i just noticed it today (8/10/2007) when my garage smelled of gasoline. the temperatures in this area have been very hot (100+ degrees) as of late. *jb

Wheel bearings need replacement. fuel pump was bad. replaced tires and brakes 3 times since i hav e owned the vehicle 2 years. intake manifold was leaking, causing the car to be sluggish and not start sometimes. abs lights came on frequently. the car was a big nightmare. wish i never would of bought a buick rendezvous. *ak

I am having electrical problems with my 2002 buick rendezvous. first, the power door locks, windows, air conditioner, radio and remote keys entry would lock. then yesterday the vehicle lost all power while i was driving in traffic. somehow i managed to turn a corner (without power steering) and park the vehicle. after waiting a while and removing and replacing the connection from the battery to the fuse box under the hood, i was able to get it restarted and return to work. when i tried to leave work, it died in the driveway. again i was able to reset everything after several tries and park the vehicle. i am afraid to drive it. i also have problems with squeaky brakes, which have been bad since i purchased the vehicle but the dealer and an independent garage cannot find a cause. i also am starting to have problems with the coolant level going down with no visible leak. *tr

I have a 2002 buick rendezvous and i believe it should be recalled. we have had many problems with this car! on top of our 400 dollar a month car payment we can not afford to replace all of these problems. our ac condenser and blower do not work properly. in fact only the two highest settings of the heater work on our car. so it's great driving hours to christmas knowing that our three young daughters will either be freezing or sweating. next the wheel bearings went. that was going to be a very costly repair. we purchased a wheel bearing at sturdevants to help us save money. then when that didn't fix the problem we brought it into the buick dealership again. only then did they tell us that they were recalled and replaced them for free. the 150 we spent personally to buy the wheel bearing? too bad gm said. the electrical unit does not work properly. the car will lose power or not start at all sometimes like the battery is dead, but then it will work fine 20 minutes later. my kids love sitting in a cold car when it's 20 below zero here in south dakota for 20 minutes until our car decides to start. this is great for the 8 month old baby. a small gust of wind hit our car door when we were getting out and now the whole darn thing is off it's track and ruining the front panel of our car. we can barely get the door open at all. another repair we can not afford. every spare dollar that we have gets put into this damn car. we pay 400 dollars a month in car payments and the rest of our money fixing it. too bad for my daughters that we can't afford to put money in their college fund until we get a reliable car. only 3 more years left on our loan. wonder if the whole damn thing will blow up before we get it paid off. we've only owned it 7 months!!!!!!*jb

I purchased my 2002 buick rendezvous cxl in early 2003. by 2004 i had to have the a/c condenser replaced, the shocks & struts replaced and numerous problems with the a/c. then in summer of 2006 the car engine started misfiring and the car stalled out with smoke coming out of the hood, etc. had it towed to buick, they said the engine had a leak somewhere and water leaked into the oil...huh? anyway, of course even though i had the extended warranty, i was just out of warranty and they refused to fix it. the option was to replace the engine for $6,000. this vehicle was already paid off and worth about $14k prior to the engine blowing up. i ended up selling it for $3k. is this normal? i think not. i submitted my case to several "lawyer" claiming to specialize in this type of rip off activity by car manufacturers but they said it wasn't worth it to them to pursue it. maybe if someone had died it would be worth more. i would like to see buick at least admit poor manufacturing and refund me some of my money. i took a loss of $11k on this vehicle. *jb

Stainless steel fuel line failure according to the authorized dealer mechanic, failure of plastic retainers permitted the fuel line to rub against firewall metal causing failure of the fuel line. *jb

Car had smelled like urine for a few months on a routine oil change. we were told that the head gasket was leaking and needed to be fixed. has not been fixed yet due to cost. this seems to be an on going problem for this vehicle and we are waiting for so action to be taken. *jb

None of the three buttons on my on-star system work; my plan is paid to dec. 2007. at the same time i discovered that the back turn signals and back hazard lights do not work (totally off while front ones blink too fast). *jb

Own a 2002 buick rendezvous. after numerous problems including speed sensor replacement, hub replacement multiple times, lift gate replacement, washer motor replacement, brake failure, odometer that zeroed out, now i am told the intake manifold has failed. have been advised by independent garage that incidence of intake manifold failure in this vehicle is well above average. also advised that since initial model rollout, gm has modified, redesigned the intake manifold to address manifold failure. gm is unwilling to correct problem with vehicle which at the time of initial intake manifold problem had less than 60,000 miles on it. repair will cost in excess of $850.00 as long as the head gasket has not been damaged. unfortunately while saving up the $850. for repairs, the head gasket could very well have been damaged. will not know until i take it in for repair in a few days. shouldn't have to pay to repair a defective design but gm is unwilling to stand behind their product. *nm

I have owned my 2002 buick rendevous since april of 04. around may of 05 my a/c unit stopped working. i had it checked out and was told it was the a/c condensor unit. i was very surprised and disappointed that such a new model of vehicle would have issues so early on. neeedless to say i was even more surprised to read and speak to other 02 rendevous owners who had the same problem. in my opinion i think buick should step up to the plate and take responsibilty for producing a faulty a/c system. it seems very strange that so many different people are having the same issue with their vehicle. any help you can give regarding bringing this to buick's attention would be greatly appreciated. thank you, april howlett

On tuesday nov. 22, 2006 i noticed a strong smell of gas in my garage where my 2002 buick rendezvous was parked. i looked under the vehicle and noticed the gas tank was leaking where the filler pipe meets the tank. i immediately called buick to see if i could bring the car in and was told yes. i was informed that because the tank is plastic it would have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $1100. parts and labor. i also asked if this has happened to other rendezvous and was told yes and was also told this happens to the chevy envoy. i then asked if buick would pay for the repairs if this is an apparently defective tank and was told that a gm knows about it but has not issued a recall i must absorb the repair cost. i was lucky that my car was parked in doors and i smelled the gas leaking. what happens to the poor soul who parks out doors and does not know his tank is leaking. does it take fire or death for the people at gm to realize their mistake and fix these tanks before someone is injured or killed. i would like to know how i can get the information as to how many of these tanks were defective and how many were covered by warranty and how many replaced att the owners expense. i had an extended 75,000 mile warranty that just expired last month or i would not have had to endure an $1112.06 repair bill to ensure my family's safety. thanking you in advance, a dissatisfied gm customer. *jb

Fuel gauge for 2002 buick rendezvous cxl was reading incorrectly. the operator of the vehicle ran out of gas while gauge indicated full tank. dealership indicated that the vehicle needed a new fuel kit. dealership (certified buick dealership) installed new fuel kit. next day, there was a puddle of fuel on driveway. vehicle was leaking gasoline from fuel tank. dealership was notified and able to correct. during same time period, transmission was not properly shifting gears. the vehicle would never shift into overdrive and would sometimes shift abruptly or very hard (jerks). dealership indicated that the vehicle needed new transmission. dealer corrected. several months ago, vehicle turning became increasingly difficult and power steering failed intermittently. dealership indicated needed an entire new rack and pinion. dealer corrected. current defect involves coolant leaking into engine due to a leaking lower intake manifold gasket. several service bulletins out for same component in this and other gm vehicles. dealer indicated that this will cause extensive damage to engine if not corrected. currently scheduled to have vehicle serviced in 2 weeks. total repairs for 4 year old vehicle are now over $8000. all repairs have been paid by owner and none have been covered by dealership. *jb

Three safety related issues with my 2002 buick rendezvous cxl. the abs sensors failed which was a difficult problem to diagnose as the problem was actually caused by water in the insulation to the sensor wiring harnesses. i'm now being notified of a front wheel bearing problem that has not yet reached a formal recall. second issue involves the awd rear axle assembly (differential). moaning noises start in the rear end, in low speed turns such as parking lot maneuvers. occurrence increases in severity and frequency fairly quickly. the rear axle is to be replaced by the dealer under my extended warranty. but i notice that this is not a random or unusual problem with this year/model buick. i would think that both of these issues due to their rate of occurrence would trigger a formal recall. why does the rear drive axle continue to fail? if it should fail catastrophically, will it pose a safety issue, especially if highway speeds are involved and the vehicle becomes unstable? *nm

I was driving in the dark and the lights shut off almost causing a crash, luckily, i was able to pull over in time, but this issue affects all the lights so no one can see me stopping. *jb

I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. i took it into the dealer the other day to have the front wheel bearing replace (paid for by gm) and in the process, the mechanic found another serious problem. i had been hearing a banging noise coming from the rear end for a few months now. i jacked the rear end of the car up and couldn't find the source of the noise. i was told by the mechanic that it is the right rear knuckle that was making the noise. when they got it on the rack, they found that the tire is moving front to back about 2 inches. i was told that this is a serious safety issue and that i will need to get it fixed asap at a cost of about $750. i took my vehicle to another mechanic to get a second opinion. i got the same diagnosis from the second mechanic with the addition of "we've never seen one of these go bad. you should never have to replace this part" they went on to say that they didn't want to do this work because it is extremely labor intensive and not their specialty. i am going to take it to a frame specialist and have the work done there. did i mention that i had to replace the body control module two weeks ago?. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated after starting the vehicle, there was an error message on the dashboard, the power controls were inoperable and the lights did not work intermittently. the dealership determined the body control module needed to be replaced.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at night, the headlights and the dashboard electronics failed to illuminate intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the bcm module; however the problem was not corrected. upon further inspection the dealer could find no problem.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's front wheel bearings went bad. the wheel bearings made a loud sound and were replaced. the replacement wheel bearings were also defective and had to be replaced.

The electrical system reboots or becomes inoperable while driving. replaced body control module twice and problem still exists. service dealer cannot seem to duplicate problem and they don't get any readings off the system. this has been an ongoing problem for about 1 1/2 years and they cannot resolve it. *jb

I own a 2002 buick rendezvous. this vehicle has been nothing but trouble for me since the get go (2004). i have numerous amount of problems that are going on with my vehicle as other owners. all of these problems started at or around 70000 miles. the exterior lights and interior lights go off with out warning and for no reason for sometimes up to a minute (and this has happened at nightime) "major saftey issue" no one can tell us why the vehicle does this. the noise that comes from the front of the vehicle when driven at 45 mph or more is outragious...it makes an awful humming sound so loud that the radio can't be heard. the vehicle also will not start at times as well...for no particular reason at all...nothing can be found wrong with it all!!! it will stall or will not start at all after several starts and turn offs. it has also done this on inclines or after filling at the gas station once as well. if you go back and try to start the vehicle in about a half hour it will start...i figured this out after calling a tow truck several times...and by the time they got to me..they tried to start the vehicle and it started. the vehicle burns a qurt of oil every 3000 miles or so. now my brakes are to the floor which i have recently had it to the shop again and the mechanic has told me that my brakes are fine that i need my abs pump (master cylinder) replaced it is leaking 800.00 +++ just for the part alone hmmmmm??? just another issue reported like all the above from other buick rendezvous 2002 owners. oh and also my driver side window regulator has broke and that will be costing me 450.00. passenger side door does not shut correctly now at all the hinges are messed up on these models. the door gets stuck all the time. all of these problems are problems that other buick rendezvous owners of the 2002 models are having and something needs to be done about it asap. *jb

At approx 20,000 miles my air conditioner unit went bad. i believe it was the condenser. at approx 23,000 miles my radio will stay on after we exited the car and would drain our battery. took it to the dealer and found no problems. they regrounded the electrical system. after a couple of hundred miles same issue returned and didn't bother taking it to the dealer. at approx 30,000 miles we were getting a check engine light but dealer didn't find anything. they thought it was air in the fuel tank. had same issues for a couple of times but didn't bother taking it to the dealer. at approx 45,000 -50,00 the computer unit went bad. the speedometer, odometer, temperature gauge and fuel gauge was going haywire. the dealer replaced the computer unit and at the same time they found the intake manifold gasket was bad. they went ahead and replaced it. at approx 50,00 - 52,000 the key cylinder went bad. i couldn't put in the ignition key and had to tow the truck to the dealer. i never had those problems with previous vehicles. now at approx 57,500 miles there is a noise in the engine compartment. there's no noise when the engine idles when the car is stopped. when the truck starts speeding up you hear a hum in the engine compartment. the faster you go the louder it gets. it also gets louder if you steer to the right. i have to take it to the dealer to find out what's wrong. the problem is that after you get the car fixed, there's always some other things going bad. once after another. i have to be at the dealer once a month. there is a website that you can reference to these similar incidents that correspond to what i have been experiencing. it is http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_75095.html. *jb

I have been having so many problems with our 2002 buick rendezvous. took it to the shop so many times but they can not find nor fix the problem. had electrical problems just couple of months after purchasing. right now of 8/8/06 its currently in the shop for: 1. all external and internal lights including headlights and back lights turn off even while car is in drive. turns off for about 6 seconds. drove couple of nights when this occurred 1 incident on major highway while merging, almost an accident. left in pure darkness. happens anytime of the day. safety issue that gm service has not yet fixed. 2. car goes on like a security mode. service engine light soon indicator stays on, radio not work, ac not work, windows and doors lock, clock stops. everything electrical locks up. took this to the shop many times and still not fixed. bcm changed in 2004 to try to fix the electrical problems but did not work. 3. 1st time only suv completely won't start. last driven was july 31st 06 and it worked fine, it sat in the garage after. next day of wanting to use it was aug. 5th 06 would not start and tried to jump charge it but did not work. had to get it towed out of our garage. my vehicle is currently being diagnosed for the electrical problems that it has been having. so far, no luck on what's the cause of it again. the internal and external light issue should really be addressed for this is something to be concerned about. could possibly lead to an accident therefore it may be too late. *nm

My wife was involved in a fatal accident on july 2, 2006. she was a promising micro-biologist whom worked on cures for ovarian cancer. she was ran off a road by another driver and sent into a line of trees in our buick rendezvous (2002 cx). the driver-side headlight made direct contact with one tree and the force opened the driver's side door allowing it to be "ripped" off the hinges. thereby, exposing her to the natural elements and making her vulnerable to strike a second tree that broke every bone in her face and killed her. i am concerned because when the 2002 rendezvous was tested, it received 3 to 4 stars and the consistent problem that arose, based upon the article that i read, the driver's side door opens during an offset frontal accident. we were never sent any information where buick was looking into this defect and it only had a recall on the rear hatch that we had to have fixed in 2003. if this problem would have possibly been corrected or at least addressed, i sincerely believe the outcome of the accident would have been slightly different. please investigate for me. *nm

Rear wiper in 2002 rendezvous turning on when the button was not depressed. followed by, all lights flashing on and off while driving causing the vehicle to go into security/locked mode. security mode keeps all cabin lights on, but all the other lights still flicker. resolution not found as of yet. *jb

Purchased 02 rendezvous cxl awd last fall from dealer. last week vehicle started acting like it was constantly running in 4wd or dragging and we noticed a whinning noise in the rear end. took the car in to the dealer, was told that the left rear wheel bearing was shot and the right one was starting to go bad. estimated cost of over $1,000. $303 for each wheel bearing hub assy (auto part store max price of $134 ea) 1.4 hr labor for each side (manager said his mechanic could have each side done in an hour). equals $606 ($338 in profit) in parts and $400 in labor for 2 hours of work. vehicle has 79,000 miles and the service manager said that the front wheel bearings will probably have to replaced every 30-40,000 miles. *nm

I have a 2002 buick rendezvous that just recently started having abs and traction active issues. this only occurs at slow speeds such as pulling into or out of a parking space, going through drive thru's, etc. when it happens, the anti-lock brakes come on and the pedal vibrates and it takes the car longer to stop. when the abs kicks in, it sometimes then activates the "traction active" light. i also notice this happening when driving on downgrades or small hills that i'm traveling at slow speeds. i also sometimes hear a rubbing sound when the traction activation light comes on. i have had this car in the dealership twice and they first said it was because i had two different brands of tires - so i replaced them and that didn't make any difference. i have asked them to check the abs sensor/wheel bearing, but they state it's fine. after reading several of the same issues on this site, i feel there is definitely a faulty issue with the abs sensor. my car has 73,000 miles on it. *jb

Brought a new 2002 buick rendezvous cx from a dealer. at about 10,000 miles the car started having numerous problems that were beyond normal wear and tear. starting with the engine light and other problems. they were repaired under the warranty. but about 24,000 and without warranty, the car got overheated for a 15 minutes traffic jam. turned out the front wheel bearing needed to be replaced, and the ac sensor wasn't working. replaced the front wheel bearing sensor. about 6 months later, the other wheel bearing needed to be replaced. just about 1 month ago and 35,000 miles later, the overheated problem happened again, compounded with the a/c linkage, and the abs sensor wasn't working. i paid $1,200 for fixing the overheat problem and replacing the abs sensor. i didn't fix the ac linkage because it would cost me another $900!! now i am so worry that another major problem going to happen anytime soon. i am so disappointed with this car. i am hoping gm will issue a recall and stop cheating consumers. *nm

Gas gauge works erratically...with driver's menu stating gas gallons used at 13 gallon. the gauge shows full, then flops back and forth from 1/2 full to full. when the vehicle fuel reaches less than 1/2 full then the gauge goes nuts. how much gas does this vehicle have once this occurs? what is the corrective action? *jb

The intake manifold gaskets deteriorated and started leaking on my 2002 buick rendezvous and on my 1997 chevrolet malibu. the same thing happened on my mother's 1997 chevrolet malibu. all of the vehicles cited had less than a 100k miles on the odometer. the buick being the latest victim had 67k when it was discovered. the gasket failure could result in severe engine damage and potential fire. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds the air bag light illuminated. the dealership determined the coil had burned out and the coil and driver side air bag needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was alerted.

Two safety related issues with my 2002 buick rendezvous cxl. the front hub abs sensors failed at 51,000 miles (left side) and 58,500 miles (right side). difficult to diagnose the problem until actual failure and error code. meanwhile, the brakes are very erratic at low speeds. often long stopping distance while the pedal pulsates severely. vehicle pulls severely to one side. dealer replaced a wheel hub the first time it happened. they rewired the abs sensor on the other front wheel the second time. it was corrected when finally diagnosed but, particularly with the first incident, we had to drive the car with unsafe brakes until the error code would register and the dealer would perform the repairs. second issue involves the awd rear axle assembly. moaning noises start in the rear end, especially in low speed turns such as parking lot maneuvers. occurrence increases in severity and frequency fairly quickly. the rear axle assembly has been replaced twice by the dealer. once at 27,000 miles and once at 55,000 miles. this is a $3,000+ repair and is no longer covered by warranty. why does the rear drive axle continue to fail? if it should fail catastrophically, it will pose a safety issue, especially if highway speeds are involved and the vehicle becomes unstable. not only is safety involved but the very high cost of replacement is unacceptable if it happens again. *jb

I have a 2002 buick rendezvous that had been having some electrical problems. lights would shut off going down the road, security locking things up, doors locking and unlocking on its own. on april 6th, it caught on fire, causing a total loss. the insurance company has been dragging their feet and now tell me that there has been 232 reports of electrical problems causing fires in the same make and model as mine. therefore they now are calling in a pyro team? i just wonder if buick should not be responsible for something is there has been so many problems.*jb

Vehicle's rpms kept racing when gas was pressed. eventually felt a slipping in gear when car was in drive. soon it started happening in reverse. took in to dealership for diagnostics and a test drive and was told no error codes came up and nothing was wrong. this continued to happen and about a week and a half later - gear shifting got much rougher and the vehicle would not move when initially put into drive, then would jump into gear - but would jump out of gear while driving! brought it to another service company and was told it was major transmission problems. vehicle only has 54,000 miles on it and is used mostly for local driving. i have heard about 4 others who have rendezvous state that they are having transmission problems within the past month. vehicle is currently undergoing extensive transmission work - shouldn't happen on such low mileage. buick should be made to look into. *jb

@ 81,000 mile the intake manifold, head gasket and front drivers side speed sensor needed replaced! recently the window has come off the track and the switch for the sunroof is no longer working! problems, problems, problems!!!!!!!!*jb

We purchased a 2002 buick rendezvous and been having electrical problems. all external and internal lights completely shuts off for 6-8 seconds and turns back on. we went to the dealer to have the problem fix but they can not find the problem because it is an intermittent issue. been in the shop over 5 times and problem started couple of months after purchase and continues till this day. we purchased in oct. 2001. dealer changed bcm and problem still occurred. this is a great issue that needs attention! couple of nights driving on highway lights all shut off and highway not lit, extremely terrifying!! happens anytime of the day & any weather condition. *jb

Transmission was kicking in and out and found out from transmission dealer that the electrical carriage was burnt and repaired/replaced. now the gas gauge does not work, air conditioner quit and sensor for reversing quit as well. we are wondering if this carriage issue would control these other issues? there are a number of issues that continues to be a problem, that appears to be sensor/electrical related. we have also had several instances lately where the car would stall. we thought it was the battery, but the battery was fine. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated there was a slight thumping noise in the driver side front tire area at any speed. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop to have the tires rotated. the repair shop determined the driver side wheel bearing had significant play and needed to be replaced. also, the repair shop determined the rear brake pads were completely worn and needed to be replaced. updated 3/20/2006 - the rotors were also replaced. *nm

Dt*: the consumer stated a whining noise was heard when driving around 30 mph. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. the local mechanic discovered the front hub bearings were worn and recommended replacing the hub bearings.

Dash instruments and remote access clicker failed. we had no speedometer or any other engine indicators and could only gain access with key in door lock. after one week delay waiting for a new cluster it was replaced. two weeks later, same problem and dealer again replaced the instrument cluster. upon picking car up from the dealer it was driven home and parked in front of garage. next day same problem again but, when door was unlocked with the key, smoke was observed inside. as soon as 911 call was made, car burst into flames and blew out windows, and sunroof 10 feet into the air. by the time the fire department arrived (located only 1/4 mile away) car was fully engulfed in flames and subsequently totally destroyed. if it had not burned, we'd have returned it to the dealer for the third instrument cluster.*ak

Dt*: the contact stated after driving for 10 minutes the vehicle overheated. the vehicle was taken to the dealership. the dealership determined air was getting into the radiator coolant and the head gaskets need to be replaced. *ak

At a slow turning speed the brakes give out and you have to re-pump the brakes for the brakes to work again . also when you make a turn it sounds like somthing is straining ( sounds like a bunch of dying cows are under the hood of the car ) had the car in twice and was told i am turning the car to hard and there is nothing wrong with the brakes ! i have almost had two accidents because of the brakes and the moaning under the hood of the car is getting worse .this has been going on since they end of april 2005. *jb

Dt: the contact stated transmission failed. while stopping at a red light she depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would not go forward or in reverse. the vehicle was towed to the dealership. the vehicle was examined and the transmission was replaced. *ak

Dt: the contact stated while driving there was flickering and clicking coming from the dashboard. all of the lights went out and the vehicle began to idle. although the vehicle went into gear, it would not move when the contact took foot off the brakes. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic , who replaced the electronic control module (ecm). the vehicle was then towed to the dealership to have the computer reprogrammed. prior to this incident, there were other components replaced on the vehicle which the dealership stated were related to the aforementioned failure. also, the dealership stated that there may be other problems with the vehicle. however, the ecm needed to be replaced before they could be diagnosed. *ak

Parking brake adjusters froze, allowing parking brake to become non-functional. vehicle failed state safety inspection as a result of this defect. *nm

My buick rendezvous with 65,000 miles had it's third major repair in 4 months. this time the intake manifold gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. i was told by the service technician that this was a common problem on this vehicle and should not have happened. gm customer service has refused to take responsibility for any of this. *nm

Our 2002 buick rendezvous began acting up shortly after purchase. once when it happened, we called the buick hotline number on the window sticker & the onstar people. buick guy said sorry not under warranty & a certified center would have to look at the problem as it was happening. onstar couldn't offer any advice. when the vehicle was taken to buick for a recall/latch repair, we asked about this problem & were told unless they saw the problem right then they couldn't help. obviously, i was driving the car & it was starting and running like it should. the problem: pulled into a non-buick garage to get vehicle inspected. when mechanic was done he pulled the car out of the bay & parked it turning off engine. i got in to leave & engine cranked but wouldn't start. this happened before in our driveway but we thought it was a fluke. the mechanics couldn't figure it out so we left it there for them to work on. when staff went to start the car an hour later it ran just fine. another time, my finger slipped while turning the ignition key so i went to turn it a second time. the car would not start, or if it did it would stop, as if choking out & not getting gas to the engine. i tried several times then gave it 30 minutes to sit & it then started. another time we pulled up to a gas pump, got gas, got back in, & the same problem...had to let vehicle sit where it was for 20 minutes without cranking the ignition then it started fine. again: on a weekend while shopping, pulled into a parking space & cut off the engine; realized needed to go to the bank first & when attempted to restart the car, it kept shutting off. now, finally, i am very lucky if this car will start at all. took it to my friendly garage, thinking it needed a new starter, & they cannot find the problem. am now on my way to a local buick service center, which will no doubt cost me an arm & a leg for something it seems like has been problematic with this vehicle since purchase! *jb

Following a head-on collision at approximately 20 mph, the frontal airbags did not deploy and the seat belts did not tighten instantly which caused severe injury to both driver (broken shoulder) and passenger (internal chest injury). *nm

Bought a used 2002 rendezvous in december of last year. first month of ownership, oil light on. took to pennzoil. oil changed. two weeks later, low oil light on. took back. low on oil. took to garage, says it's leaking from around the trasnsfer case (they think) and can't fix it. now big problem: traveling to an appointment. had just filled gas tank about 30 miles before, low fuel light came on. fuel gauge went to empty. started surging and idling so fast it could drive itself. just quit at 60 miles an hour in the middle of the road. caused a slight fender bender, but no one was hurt. everyone agreed it was ok not to call the police for a report. (mistake) called onstar. they said something about a relay getting too hot, probably causing part of the problem, but not all of it. had it checked out by a mechanic friend. related he had no idea what is causing the problem. husband took it out a few days later to see if it was acting any better, drove just fine and then did the same thing. quit in the middle of the road. will have to take it to the dealership, but have no money. stretched our budget to buy reliable transportation for our family. was told buick was a reliable automobile. has turned out to be the worst we've ever owned. also, have had to have the wheel bearings changed twice, and we've only had it since december. mechanic says it's a chronic problem with rendezvous. the ones we got to replace the bad ones were even bad. have no idea where to turn. it is unsafe! i have no way to transport my children without taking our two smaller cars everywhere. i would apppreciate any assistance you could provide. thanks and have a blessed day! *jb

While driving at 60 mph, with no warning car stalled, towed to the dealer who replaced faulty theft deterrent unit and said it was fixed. car then stalled again while driving, towed to dealer, who said their was a internal fault in the fuel pump harness and car is fixed. car stalled again at 55 mph. *nm

2002 buick rendezvous consumer returned from a trip and found battery dead. next morning consumer gauges were not working. *ts the dealer installed a module to correct the gauge problem. the warning lights came on and the dealer installed another module to correct the problem. the next problem was the air condition blowing hot air, it was soon discovered that the incorrect module was installed. the dealer then notified the consumer that the radio kept the air condition from working and a new radio was needed. the consumer stated after the vehicle was jump started due to a dead battery, he began to experience all types of problems. *jb

Dt: 2003 buick rendezvous suv. consumer's vehicle was involved in an accident on october 3, 2005. upon impact, the airbags did not deploy. took vehicle to dealership and called my manufacturer, and they asked questions that did not pertain to this vehicle. the consumer wanted to know why the airbags did not deploy. vehicle was being inspected to see if it could be fixed. this was the first accident. the consumer sustained injuries. was knocked on conscious, when the consumer woke up he was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and the driver of the other vehicle was also injured and taken to the hospital. a police report was taken. took pictures of the vehicle. it had all the original parts. the consumer purchased vehicle in 2003. the only damage made was to consumer's vehicle and the other vehicle. the consumer was wearing seat belts. the road conditions were clear. the consumer was concerned why airbags not deploying. *ak

Safety hazard: cracked fuel tank leaking gasoline/gasoline vapors on 2002 buick rendezvous. the car is driven on city/highway pavement and has not been in any crash or driven on rough or offroad terrain. note that on nov. 10, 2003 buick issued a recall on 2004 rendezvous for cracked fuel tanks. see nhtsa recall id number 03v454000. we noticed strong gasoline odors in our garage beginning in mid-september. on september 30, we could not start the car and had a buick dealer tow the car to dealership to identify the reason for the no start and check for gasoline fumes. the dealership identified a bad cell in the car's battery, worn fuel level sensors and a cracked fuel tank. this complaint only deals with the cracked fuel tank unless nhtsa's investigation identifies a link between the others. the vehicle was purchased from don stein buick in overland park, ks and towed to john bailey buick in buford, ga. on today, oct 5, 2005, i will be picking up the vehicle following replacement of the gas tank. i have asked the bailey dealership to make the cracked gas tank available for my review and transport. i intend to take pictures of the tank prior to accepting custody of it. the nhtsa hotline representative was unable to determine if nhtsa has any chain of custory procedures for conveying the cracked tank to nhtsa custody. (note: i do not know the exact purchase date but do know the car was purchased in july 2002. i have listed july 15, 2002 as an approx. date.). *nm

A/c condenser failure in 2002 buick rendezvous. in late july 2005, i noticed that the air conditioner was not blowing cold air. in august, the car dealer service department looked at the problem, and determined that the a/c condenser failed, and would need to be replaced, at an estimated cost of $1,000. i refused service. this car is only 3 years old, and is garaged and driven in pennsylvania. the a/c is used for approximately 6 months out of the year. why would this part fail after 18 months of use? when looking at the nhtsa web site listing of reported problems, i found many instances of this condenser failure in the 2002 rendezvous, pontiac aztek, and the chevy venture van. all of these car models have the same condenser part installed. is there any technical service bulletins issued for this problem? *nm

2002 buick rendezvous developed problems with the brake system.***no answer required***.*mr the consumer heard a grinding noise and felt a vibration when braking. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician stated the he also heard a slight noise in felt the vibration but the computer didn't detect a failure. he believes the problem may be a faulty abs sensor. *nm

The air conditioner on my 2002 rendezvous stopped cooling when the car had 60713 miles. i took the car into the dealer and was told that the condenser had 2 holes in it and it would need to be replaced. this repair was completed at a total cost of $910. *nm

The air conditioning stopped blowing cold air on our 2002 rendezvous. when we took it to the dealer we were told that the condenser needed to be replaced at a cost of over $800.00 and that the intake gasket also needed to be replaced. we ended up having both replaced at a cost of over $1500.00 to us. when having repaired we were told that both of these problems are very common on gm vehicles. we were past warranty so the dealer was of no help with the cost. after reviewing other complaints on the nhtsa web site, it appears that both of these parts are failing and gm needs to take responsibility for the repairs. *jb

Dt: 2002 buick rendezvous - the part that attaches to the gas tank or the filler tube broke off. while driving on a paved road going about 55 mph the filler tube broke off and all the gas slowly leaked out of the car in five minutes. the consumer was able to drive to a repair shop, and it is being repaired now. there were no recalls on the gas tank problem the repair shop could not give any reason for this to happen. *ak updated 3/3/2006 - *nm

Anti-lock brakes activate at low speeds. basically the same thing that is stated with the new recall for gmc! when i unplug the sensor and plug it back in the problem goes away for a day, then the problem lasts for several days until the sensor is unplugged again. *jb

While driving all electrics shut off- engine seems to keep running. this is especially troubling at night. there is a ding-ding battery display turns on briefly then all interior lights, dashboard, and exterior lights shut down for 2 to 3 seconds. this has happened to my wife 3 or 4 times and to me on a very dark road. we purchased the car used and had it 3 weeks -the dealer replaced battery which tested bad -the dealer took care of labor but we had to pay for the battery. 3 days later same issue occurred. *jb

I own a 2002 buick rendezvous and the "check engine soon" light came on. the car was taken to a garage on 8/19/05 and they fixed what they thought was the problem (r&r fuel tank connection to clean and re-secure, had water in connector). total cost of repair was $145.07. on 8/26/05 the light came on again, we took the back to the same garage and they found water again in the connector and determined that the water was coming from the inside of the vehicle. they discovered the water was coming from the air conditioning drain tube. as long as the car was sitting still the a/c would drain properly, but at speed the force of air would force the water back into the interior underneath the seats where many of the electrical connectors are, therefore shorting them out. the seats had to taken out, the carpet had to be removed and dried out and a new a/c drain tube was installed. the evaporator case was also resealed. total for this repair was $276.38 upon ordering and receiving the new drain, the mechanic was told that the part had been "updated". the updated part had a slight bend in it now, and the old was just a straight piece. my complaint is, if a piece needed to be updated obviously something was wrong with the original design and i the consumer should not have pay for the damages or repairs due to a faulty part. thank you. *nm

Restarting and delayed start on 2002 buick rendezvous. only 7/1/05 stopped to fill gas tank. after refill, the car started and may have moved no more than 2 feet. shut off and wouldn't re-crank for at least 15 minutes. on 7/5/05 took the car to master pontiac in augusta, ga for diagnostics and they could not find anything that could have caused the problem. on 7/17/05, husband was driving the car. took some friends home, shut the car off for 5 minutes. tried to restart and car could not start. they tried for several hours before they had the car towed to master pontiac augusta georgia. on 7/18/05 the car was started immediately at the dealership. they could not find anything wrong with it. on 7/22/05 again at a gas station the car would not start after refilling. had to push it out of the way and wait 30 minutes before it would start again. on 7/23/05 (saturday) called master pontiac and told service manager about the night before incident. he stated that the next time it happens to call them immediately. though i truly appreciate the offer, i personally don't see how this will help, since they immediately will try and start the car and sometimes all you have to do is wait 15-30 minutes before it will restart. master pontiac has been very helpful, but unfortunately nothing can be found. i supplied the service manager with a listing of other complaints from edmunds forum to show them i'm not making up this problem. this is very frustrating especially when you do not know when the problem is going to happen. this is unsafe for mothers with small children. it's unsafe for anyone. there are numerous complaints regarding this on edmunds forum and something must be done. in addition to the above not starting problem, the car will 80% of the time have a slow start when cranking. something is definitely wrong. the question is what. *nm

After driving in hot weather for about 30 - 40 miles, i stopped to fill up the vehicle with gas. afterwards, the rendezvous will not start. after letting the car sit for 30 - 60 minutes, the car starts normally. this has happened several times. *jb

After operating my 2002 buick rendezvous for about an hour on a hot day, i turned off the engine for a few minutes (5) while i completed some errands. when i attempted to start the engine it would turn over but would not fire. i assumed the engine had overheated so i let it cool for 15 minutes and tried it again. no luck. this went on for the next hour. i finally let the vehicle sit for 45 minutes and it started right up. this has occurred 2 previous times and seems to be a recurring problem with this make and model. buick refuses to admit to a problem. *nm

Buick redvous died and would not restart... it was towed to the dealer and they dianosed a clogged fuel filter. i proceeded to die and not restart on the way home from the dealer. $167 for towing and $95 repair bill 3 days later dealer dianosed a bad fuel pump. total repair bil was $698

A/c condenser failure (leak from crack), failure disables the a/c unit, dealer indicates it is a $1000 repair. vehicle is 2002 buick rendezvous with just under 50k miles

After running for a while if you shut the vehicle down and try to restart it within minutes it doesn't always want to start. the first time it happened i had the vehicle towed to the dealership. it was afterhours, so it sat overnight. the next morning when the service dept. checked the vehicle it started right up. they put it on the computer and found no problem. the problem has happened 3 more times since then. i just let have to let the car sit for upto 30 minutes and it will start up again. i spoke with gm and they said there is really nothing they can do. the dealership can't duplicate the problem and therefore can't find a solution.

2002 buick randezvouz with 20,000 miles. failure of plastic collar on top of the fuel tank for no aparent reason. fuel spills out of the tank in considerable quantity to make a the situation a dangerous hazard. for the past two weeks the unit has been at the dealer's shop waiting for the new fuel tank which might have the same design or manufacturing problem.

Noticed fluid on garage floor behind right front tire, took to dealership and was told the intake and head gaskets needed to be replaced.

2004 buick rendevous 64k miles - complete ato transmission failure - including transfer assembly. occured 40mph with no previous signs or symptoms - almost caused rear end collision. lost all gears, 1,2 and reverse - only 3rd barely operable. 5 miles from dealer - had to be towed. superior buick (kansas city) pulled pan - said lot of ground up metal. initial cost $5k! investigating other cases - finding gm knows of this problem - in some cases dealers buying back '02 rdv's. finding this exact same occurance with other owners is not just a random - but many failures. just 30 days ago also had to replace entire ac condenser unit $1,500 - now finding this too is a gm defect with lot of other rdv oweners. will try to pursue vehicle back by from gm - seeing a lot of 'lemon' cases out there.

Both right and left front wheel bearings had to be replaced on the vehicle. the first (left) was replaced at approx 35,000 miles. the right bearing was replaced at 43,000 miles. the vehicle has no heavy use and is driven approx. 1,400 miles per month.

My 2002 buick rendezvous cxl shuts down while driving down the road. it also will not start after being turned off. the problem always occurs in hot weather. typically, it's a hot summer day and i have to wait for about 1 - 2 hours before the car will start. on at least three occasions, i was driving down the road and the car stalled, once on the interstate at 60 mph.

2002 buick rendezvous started making noise. when turning on ventilation control to 60 degrees to get a/c to turn on due to it being our first hot day of the season, noticed compressor was not kicking in nor was the vehicle cooling off. dealer states condenser has failed at 40,000 miles and requires replacing. cost at dealership $925. seems to be a pattern of the number of complaints related to condenser.

Dt: while driving the body control module cut off the tachometer, speedometer, air compressor, headlights, and locked the windows to the car so that one could not row down the window. the body control module could go out at anytime while driving.*ak

Bought 2002 buick rendezvous cxl from carmax with 29k miles. seemed to run ok for first couple months...at around 36k miles, the condenser went out at the same time as the odometer started to display "error". unacceptable for condenser to fail with just 3 years of light use. also, had to replace instrument panel to get rid of error - took a week to ship the error panel to factory so they could read mileage and set on a new panel to ship back to the dealer. luckily i purchased extended warranty, but i still have a 75 deductable for every repair and rental vehicle is not covered.

(1)loud road noise from right front wheel, wheel bearing failure, dealer repair-very expensive! (2)ac no longer worked - ac condenser failure. dealer repair also very expensive!! (3) gas gauge quit working , misc electrical problems- at dealer right now probably expensive!!!

Had my local mechanic replace rear brakes. still getting noise from rear wheels, took it to buick dealership to investigate. they adjusted brakes and they failed within a week. i was then charged $1000 plus a $400 rental car bill while they "fixed the brakes." after getting my car back it was still "whirring", turns out the problem was a hub bearing failure on all four tires.

Low roar in front underside of vehicle, 53,000 miles. took to dealership. told it was a front wheel bearing and would cost $450+ and $36 diagnostic fee. took to independent and had service done for $330 inclusive. on march 10, same noise occurring. other front wheel bearing, 65,000 miles. complained to gm. they assured me if i took to dealership for repair that gm would reimburse. did so and then was denied. total cost was $494 for second wheel bearing. reason from gm: wear & tear. i was able to put 65,000 miles on original tires. obviously not a 'wear and tear' situation. obviously defective equipment. gm should be liable!

The service engine soon light came on. my manual suggested this has to do with the emmissions system and my person that does my oil changes had told me that they should change the fuel filter and clean emissions system. i took and had the previously mentioned done. light still on. i took the vehicle to dealer who said that the computer indicated a transmission solonoid but they would replace the transmission fluid and filter and hope that would unstick solonoid. to drive for a few days and see if it cleared. light stayed on. i took to an independent mechanic and he took transmission apart, checked all parts (including the solonoid) all parts were fine. however, he did put in a new solonoid. light was still on. he consulted gm (buick) database to learn that this is a wiring problem that gm is aware of. that there is a short somewhere in the wiring and can cause transmission to burn up.

I took my car to the dealer complaining of a rubbing/clunking noise while driving. the diagnosis was the exhaust was bent and was rubbing on the driveshaft. dealer replaced complete exhaust system and driveshaft. i was told this could only have happened due to rear end impact. no impact occurred that i am aware of and no visible damage to vehicle. i contacted my insurance company and they inspected the vehicle and did not find any evidence of rear end damage. they suspect design/safety defect and asked the dealer to provide them with the drive shaft. dealer said they have seen this happen one other time. i am concerned about the safety of this vehicle

37,700 mile vehicle didn't blow heat. next day vehicle overheated in town. after coolant flush and air bleed vehicle overheated on highway. dealer diagnosed bad head gasket and replaced at owners' expense minus parts.*ak

Weird noise coming from back wheels. dealer found that rear brake pads were worn down to rotors. vehicle had 22,000 miles. dealer fixed rear brakes under warantee and resurfaced front brake rotors. dealer indicated that this was a problem they had been seeing on the buick rondezvois'. i thought this was very unsafe.*ak

The interior rear view mirror broke off and fell while driving. when this occurred it caused a distraction, causing consumer to remove his focus off of the road, almost resulting in a collision. this occurred due to a bonding failure at the factory. *ak

Windshield wipers stopped working. consumer intended on taking the vehicle to deale r for service when the rain ended. *ak

We own a buick rendevous. it has running lights that are on all the time the problem is that you have no tail lights with the running lights on. so if you get in to a rain storm where you are required by law to have your "headlights" on it gives a false sense of security that they are already on. but unless it's dark enough for the actual headlights to come on you have no taillights. this is dangerous to both you and the cars around you.*ak

Vehicle has 24,200 miles. dealer says rear (awd) differential is ruined and needs replacement. dealer won't tell me if condition is dangerous. odd noises noted five months ago. second time to dealer. first time - no problems noted. now tell me differential ruined by bad tires (manufacturers choice) - this not noted by dealer in june. if tires are not proper size, etc. "awd disabled" light is supposed to illuminate. have never seen this light on this vehicle.*ak

Front left side wheel bearing failed at 30,000 miles of wear. within two week or less the right side wheel bearing failed. dealer was notified and made the repairs.*ak

My wife had a flat tire and destroyed the tire on the highway. we were sold the tire monitor system with the cxl. it is also circled in our brochure from the salesman. the vehicle does not have the system and gm is blowing us off! this is false advertising. *ak also, this year, both rear axle hubs have gone bad as well as problems with the rear drive module.

I work at a buick dealership and i also drive a buick rendezvous. we are seeing multiple gas tank leaks at full tank fill ups. the filler neck joint is leaking and the tank needs to be replaced. i have actually been asked to glue over the hole because tanks are on back order, so the customer can have their car to drive.

After regular maintenance and with no warning the car started making metallic noise in first gear and reverse. noise disappeared in second gear. the condenser for the air conditioning failed. the car has 44,600 miles (most are highway miles). *jb the dealer has agreed to "split" the estimated $4,576.

When driving 55 mph rear right tire blewout. this caused the consumer to pull of the road and change the tire. consumer stated that the tire looked like it just melted ,and there were no objects and the road. this was a firestone tire. *ak the consumer noticed that the passenger side front floor mat was wet. the technician determined that the a/c evaporator drain was clogged due to leaves coming from the windshield cowling. the dealer cleaned the drain and removed the leaves. the left front hub and bearing had excessive play and were noisy. the check engine light illuminated. the trouble codes indicated that the gas cap may have been loose. the vehicle body control module (bcm) failed and had to be replaced. it caused the security lights to remain on, the a/c not to work and at night the horn would sound when the vehicle was off. after the consumer locked the door the vehicle radio would come on. this caused the battery to drain and as a result the vehicle had to be jump started. *nm

The consumer stated the horn would blow and the radio would come on for no reason. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection; however the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. *ak the consumer had taken the vehicle to another dealer and they fixed the module the same day. there has been no other problem. currently the vehicle is in security mode. the consumer was unable to open the windows and the rear doors. *sc the consumer noticed the floor mats were discolored , it was determined that the air condition system had malfunctioned. there was a screeching noise in the steering column, but no problem was found. the left front hub and bearing was replaced the brakes were replaced.*jb

Various electrical problems. horn only works some of the time. sometimes engine will not crank only the warning lights come on but no engine crank. various chimes for delayed door locking etc. do not work. special programmed features do not work such as removing the key from ignition should open locked doors. bcm has been replaced but problems persist. dealer states they cannot recreate problems while in service. no events lead up to failures, just started to occur. *la

When changing the oil to our 2002 buick rendezvous, my husband found bubbles in both front brake lines. we took the vehicle to bob myers buick dealership in our home town of anderson, in and was told the service department inspected the brake system and found all rubber components damaged due to possible fluid contamination. they advised it would require replacement of all rubber components and complete system flush to prevent further damage. the estimate was quite expensive and we were advised this would not be under warranty. we took our vehicle then to dean's engine shop, anderson, in and had them do repair work. he advised on our paid receipt " checked for contaminated brake fluid, took master cly apart and checked, none found, possible defect in rubber hoses; replaced rubber lines at all 4 wheels replaced master cyl flushed out and blead total cost of $572.26 (repairs done 3-4-04) first inspection from bob myers buick 2-25-04. we also had to pay for a rental vehicle while our vehicle was in for this repair 02-27-04 to 03-02-04. *ak

Front wheel bearings defect twice in six months. (cannot understand how this could happen twice in one year on a new car. i only do highway driving live in ny and work in ct. i was told part (hub kit 6.307 r )on back order for at least three weeks. i could not be without a car for three weeks nor could i rent a car for three weeks. so i took it to my mechanic who fixed it in one day.

At 43,000 miles my 2002 buick rendevous lost freon. the buick dealer quoted me $848.00 to fix. i found a service bulletin on a 2001 pontiac aztek with similar problems.*ak both the rendevous and aztek share components from gm. they fixed the ac condenser and 2 seal of the condenser. also they recharged the freon. after i asked about a sevice bulletin on the rendevous, gm paid for the fix with a $100 copay.

I have a 2002 rendez vous with 37,000 miles on it. the handling on this car is extremely poor and seems to be getting worse. it understeers horribly and has an excessive amount of body roll on even the most gentle turns. i feel that some sort of aftermarket stiffening of the suspension is required. i purchased new, firmer tires and this did not improve this dangerous problem. i find it hard to believe that gm would let a vehicle like this get on the highway with its poor handling. i am frightened to let my wife drive this car. in an emergency maneuver it will roll. i have no doubt. *ak

After about 1/2 hour of driving my 2002 buick rendezvous, all of the check bulb lights came on and the gauges went to zero. this lasted for about 1 second, and the engine did not shut down. it began to happen every few minutes and with greater frequency until it was occurring continuously. i pulled off to the side of the road, and after 20 minutes it appeared to go back to normal. after 20 more minutes of driving the same thing happened again. i took the car to the dealer and they said "the black box failed" and they replaced it. *nlm

The headlights on my 2002 buick, rendezvous kept going out for no apparent reason. i took the car to the shop (vanatta buick in vestal ny) and they said it could be the body control module. they scanned the data output and found several codes that indicated a malfunction of this unit. i had them replace the unit. they covered the cost of the unit and i payed the labor.. the problem has not occured sense the unit was replaced. it is my opinion that this malfunciton is a very serious problem. in my situation the several times that the lights went out, ii was not in a dangerous place (ie on a super highway going 65 mph) if i had been in that situation, the second or two the headlights and dash lights were out could have had fatal consequences-- such as a deer crossing the road or worse yet, a person on the side of the road. *ak

Just opening a buick rendezvous door caused a $900 dollars damage. we opened the driver side door of our new buick rendezvous 2002. it was a windy day and the door went too far bending the hinges and causing damage to the frontal body part of the vehicle. apparently, the doors have no door brake and therefore, this type of damage could easily occur. Vehicle stopped running in middle of the road. would not start. towed to dealer. it was determined the fuel pump was not working. there was no warning this was about to happen. vehcile stayed idle for 8 days before a fuel pump could be located! this seems to be an issue with several models of gm vehicles. dealer confirmed the problem.*ak

The outside rearveiw mirrors are too big causing a blind spot in several areas. shorter people as myself a 5'4" can't see over them also they are to wide causing a 2' blind spot for vision. they also have too large of mirror making the images in the rear appear like they are in front of you. several missed accidents with bicycles and other cars due to blind spot. contacted buick and they said nothing could be done. need to replace with smaller mirror. *ak

The cruise control light on the instrument panel would come on and flash when the vehicle was not in cruise control (but was being driven on the highway). i checked to see if maybe the cruise swtitch had been left on; it had not been. turning the switch on and off did nothing -- the cruise did not work and the light flashed. i checked the vehicle owner's manual and it did not state the reason why this light would flash -- i had to assume it was doing so because the cruise was broken on the vehicle. took the vehicle into the dealer and sure enough, the cruise switch was bad. the owner manual should have contained information on what to do when the light was flashing.*ak

2002 buick rendezvous sudden electrical failures while vehicle in operation. the most recent event occurred on friday, august 8 while traveling in idaho springs, co while driving on straight level road and not accelerating nor decelerating -- i was maintaining a constant 40 mph and had the vehicle simply cut off and was unable to control. fortunately, we came to stop before crashing. this is the fourth incident of the type since we have had the vehicle. dealership and general motors are unable to determine the cause of the failures and has returned the car to me with the caution that "condition did not reoccur. due to infrequency of condition, customer needs to drive to see if condition is repaired." i am concerned for the safety of my family and others because of the sudden, unpredictable failures. are there other 2002 buick rendezvous vehicles with similar reported problems? *nlm

Automobile cuts off and does not want to restart. then, steering locks , and she cannot get it to unlock until she beats on it for 5-10 minutes. then, it releases. she has had it to 3 different dealerships, and they all told her that they could fix the problem because they could not get the vehicle to duplicate the problem.*ak

Buick rendevous - 2002rear liftgate can be inadvertently opened by depressing either the key fob button or the dash board button while the car is in park.the car can be placed in drive and driven, and the dash board warning indicator does not illuminate, warning the driver that the gate is ajar. while i haven't investigated this, the sensor is probably a plunger or pressure sensor. the gate is heavy enough, even when unlocked, that the sensor does not activate on unlocking. as the car is driven, the gate moves and the sensor comes on. there is a possiblity that a car's load or passengers could be ejected from this unlocked lift gate while the car is in operation. we have inadvertently activated the unlocking mechanism three times, have pulled off the road and secured the gate without incident. the remedy would involve having the sensor linked to the locking mechanism so that any time it is unlocked, the driver is aware of the issue.*ak

The size of the side view mirrors cause a blind spot. this causes poor visibility when switching lane. *ak

Vehicle driver-side door hinge, and door and front body panel edges, were bent by only a small amount of wind pushing door forward. two attempts by dealer to reset the door, including a new hinge, have failed to return the door and window to original position against the door seal, resulting in a constant wind noise which is very annoying. hinge or door frame to which it is attached appear to be insufficient in strength. every time the door is opened fully the hinge can be seen to bend away from the structure to which it is attached in the door frame. door also does not seem to have a "stop" to prevent reoccurence of this problem. gm does not seem to have a retrofit program in place to replace the hinge or door frame.

The windshield wipers locked together and stopped rotating. the consumer had to physically unlock the wiper arms. *jb

After stopping on a hill with the transmission in 'd', as soon as i took my foot off the brake, the car started rolling back. this is a dangerous situation when cars are behind and you come to a stop on a hill and then need to go. *nlm the dealer replaced the torque converter but that did not solve the problem.

The tailgate hatch opened while being driven. the dealer stated that there was nothing he could do. the consumer requested a replacement vehicle or a buy back. the left front door had a winding sound, can see a gap, and did not open properly. the hinges were adjusted. the heated seat was inoperative. the rear hatch light had come on when going over bumpy roads, and the rear hatch switch was sticking. the rear hatch switch was replaced, and the liftgate lock assembly was replaced. scc

2002 buick rendezvous very low passenger heat, trouble defrosting windsheild. car taken in to dobles buick in manchester, nh three times then tulley buick of nashua, nh. informed, will not put out more heat. driving in cold weather a blanket is used. some times turning left or right a blast of hot air comes out of vents. more hot air comes out of top vents than floor vents. both dealers tested car and informed it was working to factory specs. we have asked to have the buick area representive contact us on this matter. this car purchased new 12-20-2002 , currently has about 1600 miles. dealer said wait until the weather got warmer and it would not be an issue. have contacted buick @ 1-800-521-7300 assigned case 1-66914926 and doretha holder, this was 1-24-2003 @ 1-866-952-4368 x58900 she has failed to respond to our phone calls. called main number again now talking to elisa ortiz @ 1-866-942-4368 x48335 she said she would take over the case. the car is not enjoyable to drive is a hazard as the passenger compartment does not get adequate heat for defrosting windows and heat the passengers. i told dobles that we would claim it under a lemon law they informed us that being they do not find a problem that our case would be weak and would perhaps be thrown out. every person that has been in this car in the cold weather complains it is too cold. can not feel safe in car in cold freezing weather as the windows ice up. our family owns chev 2001 silverado, a 1997 chev conversion van, 1997 cady- catera . all of the other cars will provide enough heat for defrost and passengers. this will not. is the burden of proof on us because the factory says it is normal? we initially liked the car and all we asked is for a resolution to our problem. i have taken car to an independent service station and they said buick should look at connections in the "air connection box".

On florida tpke. i was cut off while travelling in middle lane. i evaded a crash by pulling to right and my vehilce spun180 degrees and then flipped over 360 degrees coming to rest right sode up. my vehicle was a 2002 buick rendezvous which was totalled.

Car stopped in front of me, was room to stop in time, however abs system kicked in & prevented vehicle from stopping - it only slowed it down. road was clear & dry, no need for abs brakes. brake pads & rear rotors were less than 3 weeks old & front tires were only 3 days old at time of accident. tested brakes by removing abs fuse & car stops great - fault in abs system. also, air bags did not deploy, but air bag warning light on dash came on solid red & stays on at all times now. accident was caused by abs system improper setup or manufacturer. *tr

I have 35,000 miles on my 2002 buick rendezvous and i am having the second fuel pump installed. the car stalled out while traveling down a busy road with no breakdown lanes. the brakes and stearing were minimal creating a dangerous situation.

I've had several problems with my car. one of the problems is when vehicle is at a stopped position while driving, vehicle rolls back. dealership claims it is normal. air conditioning/heater does not cool/heat enough. there is a "klunck" noise from under the car almost everytime i stop. dealership is looking into it and has buick corp involved. *la

I have had all four wheel bearing on my 2002 buick rendezvous clx which was purchased new in may, 2002. i drive alot of miles, perform all regular maintanence and the vehicle currently has 120,000 mile. the first wheel bearing went bad at around 92,000. *ak

Water enters inside of vehicle and causes the carpet in front to become soaked. mechanic noticed an opening near front and repaired it. *ak *jg

Gas gauge would be sporadic, would show a correct reading, but opposite of what was happening, vehicle would be filled with fuel, but gas gauge would show empty or vice versus. vehicle has a back fuel system. *ak consumer stated dealer fixed the problem which was a faulty sending unit.*slc

While on a steep hill vehicle will not go in reverse. wheels will not spin at all when it is on a hill. contacted dealer, and the dealer is not willing to do anything. *ak

Lemon law in process vehicle was returned to owner w/ manufacturer aware of defect. independent diagnostic report completed concluded vehicle unsafe to operate garaged. no ignition start invalid computer codes overide security system and safety systems intermittent operating engine & emergency brake light & windows & ac & radio, etc. dt

The brochure and owners manual for the 2002 buick rendezvous both state that the dic (drivers information center) includes a tire pressure monitor. the dealer i bought a 2002 rendezvous also believed the car had a tire pressure monitor. however the 2002 rendezvous apparently is not available with the tire pressure monitor. the sales literature and owners manual incorrectly say that it is available, and my experience is that sales personnel often also believe it's available. an unwary consumer could buy and drive a 2002 rendezvous incorrectly believing the car will warn them of a dangerously low tire. i believe buick should notify all owners of dic equipped 2002 rendezvous and clarify that the car does not have a tire pressure monitor. this notification should also include a mechanism permenantly correct the owners manual. reference: description of dic, page 40 of brochure for 2002 buick rendezvous. also 2002 rendezvous owners manual, page 2-107 describes non-existent tire pressure monitor mode in dic. it does not describe it as optional.*ak

Slight wind bent driver door and bent hinge. there are no restraints to keep door from opening beyond the bending point. than a week later it happened again. buick would not warranty the bent hinges. customer out $400.00 for 2 repairs however buick welded the hinge.*ak

1st time/rear differential leak over 1-1/2 quarts of rear diff.gear oil all over driveway. dealer replaced with complete new rear housing assy. 571 miles later, which was 05-20-02 rear diff. leaking again. car is at dealer, and i called general motors, they are looking into the problem. i don't want the car back. calif. has lemon law 2 times for same repair, which could cause bodily harm or death we are to get another car. if the rear end locks up at 65 mph and i live thru it there will be a major law suit. i don't understand the promblem with changing me out of that lemon, into another buick rendezvous. please e-mail me with any info. you have on this.

This vehicle was struck on the side at the left rear quarter panel, as a result the right rar seat collapsed resulting in the occupant sutaining serious internal inuries, the rear liftgate latch remained engaged but separated from the body (torn from fiberglass) resulting in occupant ejection. nlm
