The engine has developed a bearing knock in May of 2012. Upon researching on the internet, Toyota has stated that oil gelling or sludge can develop, causing engine failure. A friend and I were performing a valve cover gasket replacement resulted from leaking when we were both surprised about the sludge buildup under the valve cover. We thoroughly cleaned the valve cover before tightening back on the engine. Shortly thereafter is when the engine started the bearing knock. I brought my car to a professional shop, dropped the oil pan and discovered that some of the main caps had overheated from starvation of oil circulation and the oil pump pickup tube was completely clogged. We removed it and thoroughly cleaned it before bolting it back up. The bearings were removed on the ones we can see and discovered the bearings were chewed up and the crankshaft showed scratches, knowing the engine at this point needs to be replaced.
