Spark plug blew out on well maintained car. Since they can\'t find part needed I don\'t know cost yet.

While driving on an expressway, I applied the brakes to slow down for traffic. The pedal went to the floor without stopping the car. The car was towed to the dealer and they said my master cylinder had failed. I feel that this seems to be a premature failure in a 4 year old car.

Transmission stopped working properly. Began as shuddering as car went into first. Dealer wants to open up and rebuild.

Torque converter failed and transmission required an overhaul. Ford refused my request for reimbursement and their reasoning was because I didn\’t have the work done at a Ford shop. However, the Ford shop analyzed the problem and their quote was almost $1,000 HIGHER than a non-ford shop. Since when is "mitigating the damages" the incorrect choice, especially since this came out of my pocket? The repairperson told me that the trans parts being used simply can\’t stand the heat they are subjected to under normal conditions. Ford should fess-up to bad quality and recall their weak transmissions. Where is common sense when a relatively new car (well maintained and not abused) has a major failure like this? If Ford customers should just "eat the damages" for Ford\’s poor quality or design flaws, count me as an EX-Ford customer in the future.

REAR SPRING COIL BUSTED. PUNCTURING REAR TIRE. SERVICE CENTER WOULD NOT COVER. KTHEY HAVE A RECALL FOR THE FRONT SPRINGS, THEY SHOULD HAVE ONE FOR THE REAR.

Rear Coil Springs brokke and puntured rear passengers tire and drivers rear spring had broken and had worn drivers tire. I was only traveling about 5 miles per hour. I contacted Ford and they told me they would not pay, because recall is on front springs only. I have info on other complaints from the NHTSA if anyone has a problem with this I urge you to file a complaint with NHTSA

Pinging noise on acceleration. Had several diagnosis attempts. One fix attempt was supposedly the egr valve; it wasn\’t. Transmission grinds in reverse gear, slight buck. No one seems to know what the pinging is, although there was a service bulletin on the pinging and it might have something to do with a pcm reset, something with the pcm and octane. Gonna try that next. How much am I gonna have to spend to find out whats wrong with it though? Ford dealership wanted $700 but could not guarantee that ping would go away. Why am I paying Ford $700. Don\’t think so.

Paint on roof and hood is beginning to peel in large patches. I will seek Regional Service Manager per your sites advice, and seek further restitution from there.

My transmmission went out with what Ford calls an internal failure. I am waiting to see of Ford with help fix this problem. So far repair estimates range between 2100 to 2900.

my brake pedal has been going to the floor since june 2005 and to this day 1-06 its still doing the same thing. i have had the master cylinder replaced brake booster, rear brake shoes and abs hydralic contol unit replaced and my brake system bled and my brake pedal still goes to floor my car is still at the shop i’m afraid to drive it. the problem is not all the time it seems to come and go. and thats unsafe

I was driving to work and heard a big metal grinding noise and it was hard to steer my car. I pulled over and called my husband and AAA. In the first 45 minutes of talking to Dadswell Garage, AAA towing person and Cole muffler, we found that front coil springs breakage ( which is what occured on my drivers side) is notorius with the Ford Taurus. I had a friend at work that had a 1993 taurus coil spring break and had it repaired and Ford paid for the repairs, now they just say there is nothing they can do about it.

I haven’t had problem fixed yet, just discovered I had a cracked coolant expansion tank. Did some research on the net and am finding this is a common problem with Taurus’s at about 4 years old and up. I just want to know if Ford will pay for this, is there a silient campaign on this item?

I have exhausted all other know remedies regarding my 2000 Ford Taurus, short of actually filing a law suit. My problem is with the Brake Lamp Switch, which was recalled and replaced in May 2001. It has since failed twice(once in 2002 and once in 2003)This is problematic as it goes out with out warning and causes my brake lights to malfunction as well as my gearshift and cruise control, putting me and my family at risk of an accident. Ford cannot seem to tell why this keeps happing and continues to tell me that I have to live with the problem. I have gone through arbritration process twice and have contacted Ford Motor Company on several occassions, but to no avail. Can someone please help me. NSHTA does have an open investigation on this problem, but they cannot seem to help me resolve my problem with Ford. What is a consumer to do, live with this, sue? I don\’t want to have to sue, nor do I want to continue to live with this problem. Do I have any other recourse. Thank you.

I bought this car new and I have brake problems. The brakes do not hold up. The rotors keep warping because the metal is too thin. I have 55,400 miles on the car and have had the brakes done 2 times. I am having them done again after only 5,400 miles since the last brake job. The brakes are underpowdered for this size car. They heat up and this warps the rotors. After only 5,400 miles since the last brake job when I apply the brakes the steering wheel shakes.

I am the Maint. Mgr. for MHMR of Tarrant County, who owns this Taurus, as well as a 2 nd one with the same problem. Brake petal goes to floor intermittently, when brakes applied under a wide variety of conditions and with up to 4 different drivers over a 6 mo. period. Master cylinders and brake fluid replaced by Ford at MHMR’s expense. Ford stated no service bulletins or recalls & would not assist us with these expenses. Both vehicles purchased new in May, 2000 by MHMR. FYI -The second Taurus is VIN#1FAFP5222YA230202 and the same work by Ford. The first Taurus still has the brake problem and has been back to Ford, who cannot duplicate the problem. The second Taurus appears to be functioning O.K. at this time.

Head gasket failure and water pump failure. I bought the car in October of \’04 and immediately noticed the cracked coolant overflow tank and bought a new one ($80). This apparently was a tell-tell with the over-pressurized coolant system due to a gasket leak. On top of it all, I paid $1200 for an extended aftermarket warranty which does not cover head gasket failure. \"Honey? Where\’s the friggin\’ whiskey?\"

BUBBLES ON SURFACE OF DRIVERS REAR FENDER. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALER, AND GOT JERKED AROUND 3 TIMES BEFORE THEY FINALLY OWNED UP TO FIXING THE CAR PROPERLY. THE CAR KEPT GETTING TAKEN TO THE POOR EXCUSE OF A BODY SHOP THE DEALER USED FOR WARRENTY WORK WHERE I LATER FOUND JUST SIMPLY BEGAN BY COVERING RUST WITH MULTIPLE LAYERS OF BONDO AND APPROX. 6 LAYERS OF PAINT. I HAVE AND MY BODYSHOP HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT FORD AND MY DEALER ABOUT THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM AND CANNOT GET ANY RESPONSE BACK. MY BODYSHOP RECORDED THE PROCESS OF REPLACING MY REAR QUARTER WHICH SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE. I NOW HAVE A SAMPLE OF THE RUSTED OUT QUARTER THAT USED TO BE APART OF THE CAR AND A PICTURE OF THE ENTIRE QUARTER WITH A VERY REPUTABLE BODYSHOP TO BACK ME UP. THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR WILL LOOK LIKE THAT AS WELL.

Blistering and peeling paint on trunk. In June 2007 same problem began to occur on passenger side roof.

Airbag: car was in a crash, with the hit at the right of the left headlight. Car was declared \"totalled\" because everything under the hood shifted to the right. Air bags did not deploy.Other: for the past year or so, when coasting, the car would suddenly accelerate. I was never able to get it repaired because it would not happen for the service garage so they could not determine what to fix. Because of the car accident in June 2004 I do not have the car anymore. Am willing to join a class action suit if that helps you.

1) Transmission slippage/won’t go into gear/skips gears/jumps and stays in lower gear in hard accellerations. At 81K miles the transaxle warning light has been coming on, however this car has been well maintenanced and not driven hard.2) Also, since the car hit 80K miles the Emergency brake dash light is constantly coming on and going off for no apparent reason.3) The signal/windshield wiper switch will not always engage the turn signals. It feels like if you try and force it it will break in two because it’s not popping into a correct position.

Rear wheel panels paint blistered and rusted. Have been sanding and repairing and repainting both sides but keeps rusting out again. Gas tank funnel also rusted out two years ago and had to be replaced.

Front subframe extremely rusted. Dealer would not repair front coil spring recall due to extremely rusted subframe. Told us it was unsafe to drive. Only option was to pay repair cost for them to weld another plate on subframe to hold everything together.

Front spring broke and punctured the tire so bad it cut it all the way around. If I had been on the highway there would be no way to controll the car. NTSB has 8 reports of this failure. Ford has a history of problems with their springs. Warnings and a recall sould go to all taurus owners. This is a very dangerous problem

The air bag light appeared on the dashboard until the vehicle was turned off. the consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer for analysis and the mechanic noticed that air bag module needed replacement. *ak the air bag light would come on when the vehicle was started and the vehicle lost all electrical power. the consumer had to turn off the auto defrost, and then turn it back on to reset the componets. also when the failure occurred the consumer had to place the vehicle in park and a loud metal sound came from the front of the vehicle and it would have to be shut down before placing the vehicle in park. the valet switch on the left side of the steering column had fallen off. *scc *jb

Vehicle parked inside of garage consumer was backing out, and noticed that airbag light came on and stayed on until he took vehicle to dealership. so that mechanic could set the codes. *ak the vehicle had been serviced five times for air bag problem. twice air bag sensors were replcaced. the consumer feels the defect was substantial impairment to use and safety of the vehicle. *yh

My car is a 2000 ford taurus (vin number is [xxx]). i have the same problem as the nhtsa campaign id number 01v075000. the headlamp switch knob is fractured and does not correctly attach to the headlamp switch. i went to the dealership in macon, ga, and was told that this specific recall does not apply to my vin number, even though i have the same make, model, and year car. my only option the dealership gave me was to pay $80 to install a complete new light switch, even though all i need is a new knob. i was told that the knob is not sold as a separate part, only as a complete new switch. i would like this recall extended to cars like mine. this causes difficulty for me to turn on and off the headlights. *nm information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Poor design on brake light switch on brake pedal. the wires that connect to the brake indicator switch are mounted on the front end of the brake pedal. they are positioned 3-4 inches above foot level, a location where the wires are vulnerable to being sheared off with an errant foot. additionally, the wire coming from the wire loom is too short, leading to strain on the wire. the result is the wire disconnects and you lose the brake lights. in our case, the wire held on only by the insulation and would connect when the brake was lightly applied (allowing you to shift out of park), but would fail when the brake was fully depressed*ak.

I have a 2000 ford taurus with adjustable pedals. the car was serviced per the instructions associated with recall campaign 01v078000. shortly after this repair, the brake switch was contaminated with grease causing the brake lamp switch to be stuck in the closed position disabling the cruise control and causing the stop lamps to stay on. the car was repaired under warranty. a little over one year later, the same problem occurred and was again fixed under the extended warranty. in essence, the problem which was supposed to be addressed in recall campaign 01v078000 apparently was not adequately addressed as the problem as reoccurred not once but twice since the repairs associated with the original recall.*ak

Defective part (brake light switch) replaced once undr recall. 2nd replacement brake light switch lasted only about nine months, same as first one, and ford won't pay for replacement, even though 1st defective part was obviously replaced with another defective part. obvious safety issue and replacement parts under recall shouldn't be as bad as they part they replaced.*ak

#1 wire to the brake light switch located on the brake predal broke at the wire to switch connector. the wire loom was mounted to0 short and did not allow for brake pedal travel. the initial problem was for intermitten brake lights. the dealer could not find the problem at which time i trouble shooted the problem my self. with no brake lights the transmission will not come out of park and there was no brake lights when stopping causing a potential accident. additional wire was added to the factory wiring at the switch connector to allow for brake pedal travel. this could caues potential wireing problems at a lwter date. all repairs were made by self. i am an ase certified mechanic. *ak

Brake switch had a loose wire per gateway lincoln/mercury mechanic and was replaced under warranty. driver could not shift out of park. no brake lights were operational. fortunately this did not occur while driving or vehicle would have been stranded in the road or potential rear end collision from failure of brake lights to illuminate while slowing or stopping.

Car fails to accelerate at times. gas pedal is depressed but engine does not seem to be getting fuel. after repeated attempts -- hitting accelerator -- engine will suddenly "catch" and lurch forward. seems to be a throttle problem, but ford dealer will not address. even though car falls in recall range for 2000-2003 tauruses with "sticky" throttles (recall was issued in 2013), dealer says it is "not on recall list." over 450,000 vehicles are -- but apparently mine is not one of them. seems like a very dangerous situation to me. you're driving in a 55 mph zone an suddenly your car slows to 20 mph no matter how hard you press the gas pedal. then after 20 seconds it suddenly takes off? not good. *tr

I was driving about 35mph and i let off the gas pedal and noticed the car was gaining speed. i then shifted in to neutral and the motor began to rev to 4k rpms. my throttle had got stuck. i tapped the pedal and got it to stop. turned around and proceeded to take it home and it happened again this time pushing me through a redlight.

Returning from lake george we experienced a loud rattling ,shaking noise. within seconds the engine light came on. we pulled over to a safe spot and were towed to superior auto on 19th st. in brooklyn. awaiting part search!?!

When i make a left turn, my transmission disengages & my engine rpm's increase until i recover from the turn.

It presented a series of missed fired and over heating on the road , after driving around 150 miles , the engine leaking oil and it loss power make it on safe to drive . the air conditioning system is iced up like a fridge and less cooling in an over whole look the car need safety control and all of this can clearly seen on the city road way .

June 2018 passenger side airbag deployed while being driven on a city street by my granddaughter, no there no signs of a collision. it was taken to a mechanic.

Part of the engine, top portion closest to the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle, caught on fire while i was driving on a city street near my residence in lancaster, ca. i noticed the smoke emitting from under the hood when i came to a stop at the stop light.

Takata recall i contacted the local dealership about the unsafe airbags and they seemed to feel as if it was no big deal and told me that they did not have the parts to fix my airbags.

I contacted ford in 2011 because my car caught fire while i was driving it and exploded. they wrote me a letter asking for receipts for oil changes at a ford dealership. i had bought it used from reynolds ford it had 1 owner. i did have it fixed by people not at ford and oil changes not at ford . i bougth a new car but the fire was scary and my liabilty does not pay for it. i recently saw another car on facebook it looked like my car ia sked what kind of car is that they said a 2000 ford taurus. i bleive that this should of been recalled when i told them what had happened to me. i was lucky i jumped out right away or i would have burned and thank god i had no children with me. i am reporting this to you. please let all other ford taurus owners know my car had just hit 200,000 miles. i hope no one gets hurt. ford should have the records of the pictures i sent to them. i was not going very fast on a local street when i noticed smoke coming out of the dash board i oulled over fast undid my seat belt and grab my purse as soon as i did that the motor exploded and was on fire. witness said that i was very lucky the fireman were there pretty fast and they believed it was an electrical problem. if i can help in any way please let me know at [email protected]

Broken speed control cable. broken in the same place as pictured in many online photos as being recalled yet the ford dealer says this car is not covered. same thing happened with a 1997 ford explorer with broken sway bar link. does anyone research the recalls, they are not complete. the nhtsa is no better than the bbb. just a complaint blog.

My 2000 ford taurus ses is having a problem with the radio and windshield wipers.when i start the car in the morning the radio is playing and the windshield wipers are working.as i am driving the car the radio suddenly turns off and the windshield wipers won't work.the radio and windshield wipers won't work for the rest of the day.the next morning when i start the car to go somewhere the radio and windshield wipers are working again.as before,while i am driving the radio goes off and the windshield wipers stop working again and they won't work for the rest of the day.

Daughter was driving down the highway and it was as if it went into neutral. no forward or reverse gears. there was no indication of anything about to happen transmission was not slipping or acting up prior to this. just glad there was not heavy traffic as this could have been a bad scenario. after research have found this is a very common occurrence on this vehicle. wondering why ford has not down something about it. bought a ford taurus because we thought it would be a very safe car for a young driver.

Transmission come and goes when it want to any equipment recalls on 2000 ford taurus

I was driving my 2000 ford taurus down the highway at 70 mph with my wife and small child, on our way to church, when the passenger side spring broke and nearly pulled our car into a guard rail and off a bridge. this happened sometime in 2004 and i can still remember the exact location on hwy 59. it's a day i doubt i ever forget. i remember the mechanic telling me a front spring should never fail. he said there were no current recalls, so i was stuck with the bill. i remember being furious with ford not only because my family nearly died, but because they wouldn't own up to something that should never happen. here it is nearly 12 years later, and i found an invoice from 2008 for new struts and sway bars that cost me nearly $1,000. i can't help but think that bill was somehow related to what happened when my spring broke in 2004, but maybe not. based on the number of complaints, i feel it is time for the recall to be expanded to include other ford owners, especially since we are all dealing with the same exact issue. i have submitted a complaint to ford 1-800-392-3673 and i believe my next step with be the ftc 1-877-382-4357. this is an obvious wrong that needs to be made right.

The car burnt to the ground out of no where.

Drivers side front coil spring broke and ruptured the tire. i bought the car in california and moved to new england 10 years ago, so it has been subjected to road salt. i called ford. the representative informed me that there was no recall on this vehicle. i read that there had been a recall on the 1999-2000 ford taurus for this precise problem. it is very possible i may have the same problem with the other coil springs while driving and not as in this occasion while the car was parked in my driveway. ma 10/8 ....updated 11/13/15 *bf *cn

2 months ago advised by walmart that tires were dry rotting. 3 weeks ago took car in to mechanic and was advised tire was separating and that all 4 tires needed replacing due to age and dry rot. went back to sam's club because i still had about 40% left on my warranty. they only would cover the one separating and refused to do anything about the other 3 tires. today, driving down the freeway, the tread peeled off the tire damaging my car but luckily no accident. also found out the tire was manufactured over one year before i purchased it. please crack down on retailers selling old tires and not honoring warrantes and telling people to drive on dangerous tires. i have pictures of the tire. update 9/15/15*cw updated 11/02/2017*cn

Started to smell burned wires in car. look under dash and smoke and wires where burned. brake lights dont work. reading online and other issue with this car and people where having same issue. when i called dealer they said theres nothing they can do because they are no more recalls on that. but i think this is a safety issue and can cause great danger.

As i approached a stop light i heard a brief faint wine and my vehicle froze. i could turn the vehicle on and off and shift it into gear but the car would not move. i was pushed to the side of the road and awaited a tow truck. we changed the transmission oil and filter hoping for the best but no luck. the car still sits. *js

Car had not been driven for a month or two. after starting it one day in early march, owner heard spring on the front, left strut pop and break. the car was not in motion nor had it been for quite some time. in an attempt to take it to a local ford dealership, the spring punctured tire. the set of four tires had been recently purchased by owner. owner had to pay for tow, brand new tire, and both front quick struts for vehicle plus labor costs. there was a recall issued on 7-15-2004 regarding installing panels to protect the tires from the exact type of damages incurred. dahl ford dealership stated the recall did not apply to vehicle's specific vin, so, they would not put the panels in nor replace damaged components at no charge. owner advised dahl ford that this recall was sent from advance auto parts online garage services, so, it cannot be too invalid. owner also was told by employees of a local meineke car care center that the issues for the car should be covered under the recall. ford motor company refuses to acknowledge that the vehicle has been registered in one of the states where the damage to struts and springs can occur--from road salt--and owner spent close to $800 remedying a problem that should have been covered under the recall. the vin does not indicate that the panels were ever installed at an earlier date, and the lack of doing so caused the exact type of issue outlined in recall number 04s17. *tr

Coil springs for this year are defective! my driver's side front coil spring exploded and shot through the side wall of the tire while the car was sitting in the driveway! i have pictures if you would like to see them. i had been on the interstate the day before; thank god it didn't happen then! ford towed the car in and replaced the tire and the front coil springs under their recall notice which had just come out. about a year later the rear springs broke; ford said it was not their problem. r u kidding me!!## i have never heard of coil springs failing except on baha racers or something just as abusive. this car was driven on paved roads and interstate! the coil springs are defective! the ford engineers & qc were penny wise and pound stupid. go get them! *tr

After purchasing this vehicle used for very little money, i had a lot of work done including some brake work. the brakes completely failed while my son in law was slowing to exit an interstate highway. my son in law drove the car off of the road, into a city park to avoid an accident. i spoke to several mechanics. all of them insisted that the whole brake system could not fail at the same time. a good friend of mine, who is not a mechanic, agreed with the mechanics that a total failure was impossible. this friend said he would drive the car for a while to prove to me that my son in law must have mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the gas. after driving the car for a couple of weeks, he had an identical experience - total loss of brakes. fortunately, it happened as he was parking the car and was already moving very slowly. after that i had the master cylinder replaced since it was the only major part in the brake system that had not yet been replaced. again, i spoke with more mechanics, including some ford dealership mechanics. they did not think that the master cylinder could cause a total failure, but could not come up with anything that could do this. within a couple of weeks, the brakes failed completely again. i was already worried that the problem might not be solved, so we had been driving extra slowly and carefully. i could not in good conscience sell or trade this vehicle so i took it to someone who could help me dismantle the car before junking it to make sure it did not return to service. *tr

Friday afternoon i took my 90 year old mother and drove to chick filet to buy a takeout lunch. i drove home to my mother's house and was in the process of backing up the car into her driveway. i stopped the car and looked behind me to check for anyone walking and then heard my mom scream fire!, fire!. as i quickly turned my head back i saw flames jumping out from under the hood of my 2000 ford taurus station wagon. i quickly turn off the car, grabbing the keys as i went, yelled at my mom to get out and then jumped out of the car and raced back to open the trunk so that i could get my mother's walker. as i arrived at my mother's car door i helped her out and pulled off her oxygen canula and told her to walk as fast as she could towards the house. i then grabbed the oxygen tank, purses, and lunch and ran toward the house screaming for someone to call the fire department. a neighbor said they would. i unlocked my mother's door and she pressed her life alert button and called the fire department. i walked out side to wait for the fire department and saw a man near the car looking at it. i yelled at him to get away in case it blew up. he did and in about 30 seconds it blew glass, and other bits all about and was fully engulfed with fire. the fire department took about 7 minutes to get there and the car was completely engulfed and burning up from front to back. we were told that it was a total loss. the scary thing is that there was no warning what so ever to let us know that this was about to happen. no smoke, no smells, nothing. my mother and i could have been burned up if we had not been able to get out in time. my car was well maintained and i had just purchased four new tires for it. we drove our car very carefully and we had owned it for 13 years and had low mileage only 46,000 miles on it. why did this car catch fire and explode without warning. *tr

Since 2004, i had to have my engine rebuilt in 2009 the cost was 1,700, due to failure in the coolant system"probable cause was the coolant system eroded', and still have coolant issues, the repairs on the coolant was almost 700. after those repairs were conducted, i had my car towed to grand prairie ford, because my car would not change gears. grand prairie ford presented me a repair list stating at that point my car needed a new transmission and would cost another 3,000 to repair. i had my car towed to eagle transmission in irving, texas. the manager told me nothing was wrong with the transmission and in fact it was an electrical error and that the brain would have to be recalibrated. i had the car towed back to grand prairie ford to have the brain recalibrated. the car at that point drove off their lot just fine. grand prairie ford would not give me an answer on why they tried to tell me that i needed parts when in fact nothing was wrong with them. they did state they replaced the seat belts due to the recall. my driver seat belt disengages still while driving. i have to replace the tires several times a year due to suspension issues'ball joints,tire rods,struts,shocks', even after repairs were conducted it has been a continuing issue now costing several thousands. i have not been able to have this car inspected in 2 years due to emission control. i have replaced all of the defective parts and still the car will not pass. also this car was a split year model and has been a nightmare when replacing any parts. i do have every receipt for all repairs and parts that have been bought for this car and the falsified statement from grand prairie ford and a letter from eagle transmission to prove this statement that i have made today is true. however, i still have a car that i can not drive because it would be illegal and ford motor co. does not honor their vehicle. *tr

The car burst into flames 30 minutes after it was parked. no one was in the car. the car was not running. the fire was under the hood. when the fire was seen the fire department was called. they arrived shortly and put out the fire. everything under the hood, and up into the dash was burned and melted. the car was a total loss. *tr

Driving at 65mph with the cruise on. the rpm's goes to 6000 with no warning and no lights on the dash. i turn the cruise off and the rpm's drop. i now start to accelerate and the rpm's just go up and the car doesn't move forward. i just get the car off the roadway before i am rearended thank god. once on the shoulder of the roadway i try all gears with nothing but high rpm's. i sit on the side of the roadway for 1 hour with 18 wheelers going by just inches from me until a tow truck arrives. i did a search on google about this vehicle and there are many let me repeat many folks that have had the same problem. this vehicle only has 47,000 miles and is very well maintained. *tr

After getting the car out of the body shop because of an accident, i was driving home and the temp gauge immediately went from normal to past hot. once cooled, i added coolant and noticed the coolant jug had cracked. as a result, the head/head gasket had cracked due to the overheating from loss of coolant. as a result of the cracked head, exhaust is now entering into the coolant system, and causing coolant to boil out, and pump exhaust fumes into the cabin. i took it back to the shop, and was told that it was not their problem, and that the blown engine was not a result of the accident. i have made it a point to talk to every taurus owner i can, and many have the same exhaust odor in the cabin. the stress of driving, or an accident, causes the coolant jug to crack and leak out coolant. i personally have replaced 5 of these jugs since the purchase of the car because of cracking on the bottom and coolant would leak out. once this starts, the car overheats without warning because the temperature sensor does not have coolant running across it to get the proper coolant temperature. *tr

I am having issues exactly as described in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v106000. i have a 2000 ford taurus where the the stomp lamp malfunctions when using the brakes. when i called future ford of roseville, ca in the automall they looked up my vin # and informed me that this recall is not in their list for my vehicle. but that the owner of the vehicle had the stop lamp replaced already in year 2000 for the same symptoms. i told them that this is a safety recall of the same year, make and model as my car with the same exact symptoms as found in the nhtsa recall article. there was not much interest in my problem and was told there is no recall for my vehicle. to me this appears that this should apply to my car also. too much of a coincidence to have the same year, make, and model with the same issues as described in the recall and having the part already replace when the vehicle was less than a year old.

Catastrophic failure of driver-side front spring during a turn on residential streets, causing temporary loss of control and near collision. ejection of broken portion of spring caused no injuries nor damage to tire of vehicle in question; however, other vehicles passed over resulting debris and drove on, possibly suffering tire damage that was not immediately apparent. evidently, ford has acknowledged a problem with these front coil springs, issuing a recall, but has failed to extend it to cover all failures. the incident described herein demonstrates that the condition is clearly a safety issue.

While i was driving with my 13 year old sister in the passenger seat, on the streets,on christmas eve, going about 40 mph, i started to smell something as if plastic was burning, i turned into a shopping center nearby, but with it being christmas eve, it was so many cars inside the small structured shopping center that when the car began to smoke, i was uncertain if it was my car smoking or someone next to me. i continued to drive to the next open parking space, this guy quickly ran up to my car and told me to and my sister to get out because as i was driving he saw fire balls coming from the under my car. at this point it was clear that it was my car smoking very badly, i turned off the ignition and the front of the car was quickly engulfed in flames with in seconds. we quickly jumped out leaving the keys in the ignition. we called the fire department and they were able to put out the fire but didn't determine a concrete cause besides an electrical problem. while i was driving no kind of warning lights came on. no check engine light, the thermostat did not read "overheat" or anything. i had liability on my car. it was a 2000 ford taurus, but the insurance company wouldn't pay for anything. if it wasn't for that guy that ran up to my car and told me and my sister to get out it could have been a lot worse because we didn't see any flames until i cut the car off. *ln

My car door doesn't always latch immediately when i close the door. sometimes i have to drive 5 miles holding the car door closed with one hand before the door will latch. this happens during the winter months. the car has to warm up before the door will latch. i have tried lubricating the door latch and that doesn't work. there haven't been any technical service bulletins written about this issue. the car door latch works great during spring, fall and summer.

Car speed took off by itself burned up brakes trying to get home. put car in neutral and motor raced, had to turn off ignition. found cruise cable off at throttle put cable back on and it happened again. now car will not idle right. *tr

On may 13, 2010 at approximately 8:50 a.m. my 2000 ford taurus caught on fire while it was parked in the parking lot of most precious blood catholic church in corpus christi. i was attending morning mass at the time of the fire. if not for the swift action of the secretary who called the fire department, the fire would have spread from the hood to the gas tank and it would have exploded. my car was declared a total loss and i was grateful that i was not in the car at the time of the fire. i have elderly parents who are with me all the time and some times they stay in the car while i run in to get them something from the store. my car was well maintained and only had 90,000 miles on it. my allstate insurance did pay me for the value of the car, however, i now had to buy a new car and i have acquired a monthly payment of $300 for five years, when i had no car payment on my ford. i want to find out why this fire started. the fire report said it was electrical or wire. but, they use that as a default reason on car fires. what can i do about this?? i never have experienced anything like this ever before and i am wondering what i can do about it. please help. *tr

Front tires purchased at walmart p215 60 16 douglas xtratrac. with less than 10000 miles started shaking and vibrating in curves and to a stop, vibrates very bad at 65 miles per hour. i had walmart look at them for a broken belt. they balanced them and said that was the problem. i drove the car home ,the problem was worse. i gave a two week trial they just got worse. i went back to them and they said there was no problem. not being able to drive the car in this condition i had to purchase two new tires,(not douglas) i now have uniroyals, the problem is gone. i have the old tires, i want to have them looked at by someone but don't know where to take them. if of government has control over this type of thing why don't we have a place to go to for help. and i am talking about a building with people in it. so i can show them these tires. or are these people producing these products protected by the ronald reagan act? *tr

The 2000 ford taurus just stops running while driving on the road. some times the vehicle doesn't start at all and leaves us stranded where we are sitting, for example: at the grocery store, the church and sometimes at home. this incident occurs very often and we have taken it back to the place where it was purchased and to other garages because of the unconcerned people from where this vehicle was purchased. the place we bought it from said they wouldn't help us because there was nothing wrong with it. apparently there is or we wouldn't have towing bills and have to have it checked out all the time. this is a big problem for us. the owner of the place where we bought the vehicle did make the comment that there was nothing they could do about it and we where just complaining about something that wasn't there. again, we have bills from the garage, as well as bills from where is was purchased showing the problem that apparently cannot be found even from the people that sold us the vehicle. this 2000 ford taurus apparently has a problem and sold anyway. we are concerned that the vehicle is dangerous as it does stop running while driving it down the road and again leaves us stranded and we are elderly people and just wanted to purchase an affordable car that we could trust with safety and affordable transportation that has giving us nothing but trouble. also, the place we purchased this vehicle from has not been very helpful with us at all about the problem vehicle we bought from them. thank you. *tr

The seat belts in the front of my 2000 ford taurus will not release all the time. sometimes people have to crawl under the belt to get out. i know wearing a seat belt is good to do, but it is getting to be a real problem when one has to try to crawl out when it will not release when pressing the release button. i have a pair of scissors just in case it gets to the point there is no other way to get out of the car. i have some people who will not wear the belt while in the car because they are worried of becoming trapped in the car. *tr

My daughter is a grad student who commutes from michigan city, in to chicago, il 3 times a week in the evenings. on october 7th 2009 she left school and turned on wipers the worked for a second then stopped. we noticed that a fuse was blown replaced it and they worked for a second we replaced the blown fuse one more time and the wipers worked as before until the fuse was blown again. i went online and found a recall for 2000 ford taurus for this problem but my vin is not included in that recall. *tr

Rear right coil spring broke in two places. one jagged end was pushing its way into the tire causing a 3/16th inch groove in the side wall. fortunately it was not enough to puncture the tire. car has only 55,000 miles on it and has rarely been driven in salty road conditions. *tr

2000 ford taurus - rear spring coils broken - it hasn't taken long to see that 1999-2002 ford taurus models have high rates of failure in the rear suspension due to corrosion of the rear spring coils. i just learned that the spring coils on my 2000 ford taurus have broken, damaging the struts and the walls of my rear tire. not only should all of them be replaced (approx. installed estimate is $700), but i was told this could cause a catastrophic accident if the coil were to puncture the tire at highway speeds. because there is an existing recall for 1999-2001 ford taurus vehicles for the coils in the front suspension, i would appreciate an explanation of the justification for front suspension recall and how that case differs significantly from the rear suspension, which has not yet been recalled. *tr

I was driving my car in the grocery store parking lot when i heard a loud pop and my vehicle veered into a large mound of hard snow which bent the lower left front of my car. i had no idea what had happened then i began to lose air in my tires and i would replace the air at the gas station. one morning i came out and my lf tire was on a complete flat,it was replaced with the donut and taken to just tires for repair. they checked the tires and couldn't find anything wrong with the tire and put it back on. for some reason my car just wasn't driving properly the steering was off. at one point my steering wheel started to shake and i began to lose air in the rf tire. i took my car to a different shop and they checked it and couldn't determine why i was losing air but noticed my inside treads were wearing too much. well i took my car to an auto mechanic and found out that my 2 front springs are sagging really bad and requested that i replace with a full strut assembly. my rear left spring was broke and spring on right is sagging badly. i don't understand how my suspension is damaged so i only work 3 days a week less than 10 miles away carrying only two persons in the car. something is wrong with this picture, i paid $962.00 for repairs. i feel that these coil springs are substandard and defective and that the front as well as rear should be repaired by ford for free. this broken spring could have caused me a blow out on the expressway, i feel that i should be reimbursed because this effects your ball joints and tie rod ends other components necessary for suspension. *tr

I am writing to you about my 2000 ford taurus ses. i was driving it out of a parking lot when a heard a loud crack and noises from the front end of my car became loud. i got out of the car and found my front left coil spring broken. luckily, i had put the protective shield on my car, so spring breaking did not cause an accident or a flattened tire. the car was taken to the local ford dealer to be repaired as the front coil spring could not be left broken. when the car was at the dealership, both front coils springs were replaced under the recall warranty, but then a problem happened that since my front struts were original, then would not go back in after the coils were replaced, which then i had to spend $200.00 to get new struts because of the coil springs breaking on the front on my car. then i got the car back. i kept thinking something was not feeling correct about the way the car drove and looked. i soon discovered that both back springs had cracked and were now broken. the car was taken back to the dealership and i had to pay for the back coil springs to be replaced on my car. i find it interesting that the front ones are covered, but the back ones are not although they look the same are were the original with the car. luckily none of the broken coils springs caused an accident, but it seems like an accident waiting to happen that 3 of 4 springs broke in just a few days. this really is concerning and makes me worried about the future of this car and its coils springs. although they have all now been replaced, at not a cheap cost when i take into account paying for the front struts and new back springs it really added up and makes me wonder how many more cars like mine are out there that have broken springs or are just a moment away from cracking into pieces. i was lucky none of my tires were punctured and that i was not driving on a road with a high speed limit. this seems very dangerous to me. *tr

Brakes when i purchased car they were good first inspection period champion ford had to change all even master cylinder they have not worked right since you feel as if you cannot stop on time. i complained several times to champion ford i even filed a complaint awhile back with ford motor company about there repairs of any type on my car. i then began to take it to ferraro ford which has now closed up but they were not happy with the brakes either they even contacted ford about what might be done. i just need to know if there was ever a recall or safety concern. *tr

Backing out of my garage at maybe 1 mph the front driver side coil spring broke puncturing the tire on my 2000 taurus. i know there is a recall (although poorly worded) for that but there is no recall the rear coil springs and the driver side rear coil spring apparently broke before since there is rust at the fracture. i had a shop take care of the work and it looks like ford may not be willing to pay for any of it. the service people at sheehy ford in gaithersburg said they certainly will not pay for the rear springs and associated costs because there is no recall, yet it appears that the rear springs have the same problem (except the rear spring fracture did not puncture my tire). i do have both broken springs and photos if you need them for the investigation. did your review and denial of rear spring failures consider that a fractured rear spring may hamper a sudden emergency maneuver causing damage or loss of control? the way the original recall notice is worded does not make it sound significant, only if you have sufficient corrosion, and i would never think just surface corrosion without significant pitting would cause a failure. if you look at my coil springs, they only have surface corrosion and i would not think that corrosion severe enough to cause a fracture. the service man at sheehy even admitted that the parts supplier used substandard material. he then said if they saw a crack during recall servicing they'd replace the coil, but if it's going to fracture due to corrosion, they'd never see a crack because it would then fail immediately. the dealer obviously can't be trusted with lines like that. *tr

My mother had a horrifying experience and a accident while driving my 2000 ford taurus. as she was putting car in drive, when leaving restaurant the car suddenly went out of control and sped up on its own and even while she had her foot on the brake all the way to floor car would not stop, the accelerator was stuck and she was terrified as she was heading head on to the restaurants brick building where she ended up crashing into and people inside restaurant said they were hurt as well as my car got badly damaged and the building. my mother and the people inside are lucky to be alive because of this problem with the gas pedal and brakes this could have been a deadly accident. my mother is bruised and still very sore from the accident and the impact was so hard when she crashed into the brick building that both front air bags failed to deploy. please someone needs to look into this because this i understand that this has happen to others who own 2000 ford taurus. i called ford and they said they had a recall on this vehicle in 2002 and the problem was corrected but here it is 2009 and it has happened again so something isn't right with these cars and it shouldn't have to take someone to die before ford realizes that this problem is still happening and they need to do something about this. there are several complaints about this same problem. and if ford said they corrected the problem in 2002 then why is it still happening??????????? please do something before its to late. i was really upset after reading all the complaints about 2000 ford taurus owners who are having the same problem with there car and this was after the 2002 recall when ford claim they fixed it. i wish i knew this before i brought the car or even let my mother drive it because i would never have put her life or others in jeopardy like that. tow truck had to pull my car from building and then it had to be towed away. *tr

I was driving a normal day to work as i heard a loud noise from the front of my 2000 ford taurus, and after pulling over and removing the front passenger tire, discovered that the coil spring had snapped off at the base. close to a 6 inch piece of the spring was protruding out of the strut housing that the spring sits in. i was lucky that this did not puncture the tire at 55 mph. as this piece of sharp steal was rapped around my strut i could not remove it with my hand, i had to cut the broken section of spring in half with a cutting wheel, to make the car safe to drive. went to get estimates, prices ranged from 450$ to 750$, for one strut assembly. i don't have that kind of money to replace the broken part. thus broken spring remained on car. then about two weeks later the exact same thing happened to the drivers side. so now i have 2 broken front coil springs. this is not a random event, i have researched this a little and it seems ford says that it is due to rust that weakens the spring. b***s***! i have seen thousands of old cars on the road with rust that ate through the entire body of the car, with rust covered springs, yet their springs do not break. i had a 79 ford f150 that was a rust bucket, and its springs never broke after tons of abuse. i believe these broken springs are due to weak steal and poor design of the spring. and it seems that a lot of others on the web feel the same, and have had the same problem. *tr

I purchased this vehicle used and have had nothing but trouble since. the main issue is that it has had the potential to kill me,my family and passers by on 4 separate occasions . to start with we replaced all of the pulleys on the vehicle last winter, due to a constant squealing noise that replacing the belt did not fix. this cost a small fortune as we broke several tools (and 4 tensioner pulley's) as did 3 mechanics trying to get the pulleys back on. ford was absolutely no help, they wanted to charge 300 or more dollars to attempt the job, their quote was something like "those things are a pain in the a@# and we never know what we're looking at with labor when we get one in!" after nearly 2 weeks we completed the work and many dollars later only to later discover that when we drive it in the rain the belt comes off! as you can imagine this is not exactly fun when on a country road in the rain with your child at 55 mph and you suddenly have no control of your car. as was the case with me the first time by the time i pulled into my driveway 2 miles later i had something plastic smoking on the right front side and severe overheating issues!!! this has happened 3 times since, once leaving me stranded at wal-mart,once in a friends driveway and most recently after 2 days of rain i decided to take my kids to the end of the raod to the bus stop(this is only re: 80 feet or so away) and i hadn't been anywhere and hit no puddles out of fear, and yet still lost the belt coming back to my driveway. my child had a seizure at school a week and a half ago, 20 miles from me and i had to drive in the rains from tropical storm gustav to a family members house and get a ride to the hospital to be with my child. i am having to say no to work(substitute teaching) when it's raining again in fear of wrecking and or being stuck somewhere and can't sell it because it has these problems. we also have had major problems with the fan's burning out and the front tires wearing down. *tr

I have had to replace the rear tie rods a total of 3 times in approximately 2 1/2 years on a 2000 ford taurus. one of the three times was when the rear driver's side spring broke (which there is a recall on the front by not the rear). (i do have the parts from the spring repair). luckily i was just backing out of a parking spot when the spring gave way versus going down the highway. something needs to be done about the rear suspension. this is quite a short time span to have this many problems with the suspension. *tr

During a very cold snap, my wife started the car and hear a bang. i found the front coil spring had snapped and impaled the tire. it was an almost clean break, with a broken whisker of steel at the perimeter of the coil. ford had offered to supply a shroud to protect tires of cars in "rust-prone " states, but this was no rust-through. it was clearly a case of bad steel. others have had various luck with ford, even covering the cost of new springs and installation. i was told no, the warranty had expired, and that i didn't have the shrouds installed. where would i be then, except having a good tire and a broken spring that they still wouldn't cover? *tr

Brought 2000 ford taurus in to repair shop to have tires replaced. rec'd phone call that both rear strut springs were broken and they would not put tires on because of the safety issue of springs poking into tires & causing accident. so struts need to be fixed first to the tune of $1000, which i don't have. apparently, this is common in tauruses, and ford should be offering to pay some or all of the repairs. *tr

I have a 2000 ford taurus, approximately 2 years ago the front spring broke and went through the tire, thank god it happened in the drive way not the highway. it was replaced under a recall. i assumed they replaced all springs as if there is a stress relief problem it would be in all springs. i called the ford dealership that replaced the broken spring and told them that both rear springs are broken and if they replaced them previously. they told me no, the rear springs are not covered under the recall, he also stated that he had been inundated with consumers with the rear springs broken but ford refuses to fix them. he stated i would have to replace them myself at approximately $400. the vehicle is nearly undriveable and a safety hazard to the driver and others on the road the way it is. how can ford, knowing the springs are bad (recall on front springs) and it being a safety hazard and refuse to repair the broken springs. ford consumer hotline told me, only the front is covered and would not tell me why the rear are not. it is dangerous, however i have no choice but to drive it this way since i do not have $400 +/- to get them fixed. no wonder they are down 28% in sales. *tr

On the morning of june 23rd, 2008. i proceeded to get into my automobile, i started the engine, put my things away while my engine warmed up and approximately while backing up 1 ft to leave; my front right coil spring broke into pieces and blew my tire out. i am lucky that this did not happen on a highway. *tr

Driver started engine and shifted to reverse at which time the left front tire blew out. inspection revealed that the spring was broken and punctured the tire. further inspection revealed that the right front spring was also broken but had not yet punctured the tire. while these tires had only been driven 10 miles per day for 12 months they had no tread on the inside while the rest of the tires had little wear. both springs appear to have broken in the same spot. *tr

Today our ford service shop informed us we have a broken rear coil spring. the coil must be replaced along with the strut. failure to do so may result in a portion of the broken spring coming loose and puncturing the rear tire. obviously, a tire blowout at highway speeds is dangerous. we had the spring replaced. during the process, the repairman indicated ford had issued a recall for the front coil springs for exactly this reason. the repair man explained that the springs on both the front and rear of the car are exactly the same. failure of any of those springs could result in a blown tire. i asked him why ford had not then recalled all the springs since a) they are the same part; b) failure results in the same dangerous condition. he could not explain why. i wrote a letter for ford asking why they had not recalled all springs, they suggested i contact the nhtsb. so, why are the rear springs not recalled if they are the same part and the end result if they fail is the same???? *tr

Transmission (automatic) 2000 ford taurus, placed in reverse after repair for fractured coil springs (warranted) were replaced ,the vehicle shuttered while slightly braking now ford dealer handing me a bill for over $2,000.00 , vehicle ran and drove great before this repair (of course they said it was completely separate) please help i've read other reports of incidents. *tr

Around 2005, my front left spring broke while putting my 2000 ford taurus into drive and nearly popped my tire. about one year later, i received a recall regarding the front spring shields, and had that done. now, as of the current date in 2008, i received word from my mechanic that my replaced front left spring is broken again, although not yet protruding into my tire, and that i should not drive the vehicle. ford should be ashamed to offer these inferior springs and not cover them as a recall, but instead try to blame the problem on an inexpensive "spring shield." *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford taurus. the contact stated that the rear suspension dropped on his vehicle. the dealer stated that the front coil springs were corroded and overlapping one another. in march of 2008, the contact received a ford recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 04v332000 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs). the contact urged the manufacturer to replace the rear suspension as well; however, the manufacturer stated that nhtsa only ordered the front suspension to be recalled. the dealer will only replace the front suspension according to the recall. the current mileage was 58,200 and failure mileage was 58,000.

Ford taurus water leak on passenger side of cabin. over an inch of water on floor. appeared after cabin filter was replaced. dealer replaced rt. side cowl and weather stripping. still had leak. apparently they cracked or did not properly reinstall the cabin filter cover. had some work done since then with new cabin filter, had heavy rain and water damage again. this time, blower motor and blower resistor ruined. smelled electrical burning. very dangerous, i would imagine, not to mention, trying to drive with fogged up windows. they want me to pay over $450 to repair. i have refused. incidents were in 12/04 and now. have read plenty of info. regarding ford's faulty design of taurus' (mine) sables and other models. this should be recalled and repaired free of charge!!! *tr

Rear coil springs on 2000 taurus should be included in the recall of the front springs. mine were replaced on 3/26/08 from ford. but had to pay out of pocket for repair. *tr

2000 ford taurus with 58, 500 miles. vehicle was sitting in my garage, engine off. upon sliding into the drivers seat, i heard a loud bang and the entire car shook. nothing external evident on inspection. took to dealer and was informed that both front springs and one rear spring were broken. dealer replaced both front springs as part of a safety recall, and both rear springs for which i was charged $481. it was just my good luck that the failure occurred in my garage and not on the highway at highway speeds, where the spring could have ruptured a tire. *tr

Without warning, one rear spring failed upon entering vehicle while parked. although sound was heard, responsible failed item was unknown at time. metallic noise constantly emitted upon leaving driveway. immediately drove 10 miles to dealer without incident. spring failure resulted in groove in rear tire requiring replacement. both springs were in need of replacement per dealer. currently, noise is emitted from trunk area, dealer wants to replace struts. no work done yet. reported to ford today as well. *tr

Passenger side rear spring fractured, driver side is cracked and ready to fracture. no damage to the tire but i would imagine this is a direct result of living in a region where salty roads are normal everyday life and there is only a recall on the front springs so i guess i am out the 500.00 it going to cost to fix it. *tr

We have two ford taurus¿ and both have the same door latch problem. both are year model 2000. the issue is that when outdoor temperatures drop to the low 20 degree area and below, the doors will not latch. we found this out the first time by having the door fly open while driving. i¿ve done some internet research and it appears this has been a problem for many people going at least as far back as 1999, and forward to at least the 2004 model year. i could put a ton of links to sites where people are asking for help with this problem but they¿re easy to find. i believe this is a serious safety defect that could put people at risk of an injury. in order to get the door latch to work properly requires that heat be applied and then this is only a temporary band aid. the door latches will not function as soon as they get cold again. i believe this is a design defect that will either cause an accident or create a situation where an occupant is not protected during a crash. *tr

While driving off the parking lot of our corner convenience store, my son turn on the a/c only to have smoke and flames shoot out from the vents. in an instant panic he looked around and found that they were trying to flag him that flames were shooting from under the car. he immediately crossed the street and was able to get out of the car safely. the flames burned through the top of the hood and thankfully the fire dept was quick and was able to extinguish the fire. everything under the hood was destroyed and even the front tires wouldn't budge when trying to push the vehicle out of the way afterwards. we had the vehicle towed to our home and still are in possession of it. though no work has been done on it and in our opinion nothing left to work on, we know that there has to have been something faulty. several mechanic friends all say the same thing about looking into the cruise control deactivation switch which has been having recalls, however, our make and model is not on the recall list. still we know it doesn't just happen without a cause we are grateful that our son was not injured and though he was definitely traumatized, we realize it could have been worse as we hear the stories. we now have no car and still owe a balance since it turns out what we thought we were paying for in liability w/ comp and collision turned out to be only liability. the ford company says it can't help us and so we were given to this site for some kind of direction. *tr

I have a 2000 ford taurus that i purchased from a private owner about a month ago. when day i was driving it i started to hear a clattering noise coming from the right side of my dash board. i opened up the glove box behind is the air bag compartment, above this toward the back is a connection that looks like a thin rod that has a plastic connector. i felt the rod so i could find out were it went to, it seems to go into the fire wall. the plastic fitting is real loose so i do not know two thing`s. 1) will it being like this will it deploy for know reason? 2) is this part of the air bag and if it is would it make this kind of noise like a clatter since it is loose? i have kids and a wife and i do not want them to get hurt buy the bag deploying or anybody else getting hurt. i do not have the money to fix this please tell me that the nhtsa will fix. *tr

On 4/1/2007 i was exiting parking in front of my home. heard a loud bang. car froze. upon examination i found that the left front coil spring had cracked, exploded, punctured the tire and locked up the forward movement of the car, all in the space of 3 feet. being sunday with no service available i looked up recalls on the ford site, for 2000 taurus and found recall 04s17 for the front coils. upon sending my car on monday to the dealer. i subsequently was informed that the rear coils were cracked and also needed replacement. i called ford customer service to inquire as to why i hadn't received a recall notice and was told the 04s17 was a customer convenience recall only, not a safety recall. the rear coils were not covered but were the same units as the front ones. this is wrong . the front should be a safety recall as in my case, in only 3 minutes i would been on the highway with my family and grandchild at 55 mph and the car would have flipped at that speed. secondly , the rear coils could do the same as they came from the same parts batch(according to ford parts) and need to be replaced before we are confronted with another firestone situation from ford, that destroyed my 1996 mercury sable. *jb

My wife purchased a 2000 ford taurus in 2001 the vehicle has had some problems but nothing to out of the ordinary until 033107 on this day my wife went to drive the vehicle and the front drivers side tire was rubbing the wheel well i then proceeded to take it to the ford dealership and they told me that the front coil spring was broken and it would be covered by an extended warranty that they had done due to common problems that they were having w/ these springs. upon completion of the inspection of the vehicle they found that the drivers side rear spring was broken as well they stated was not covered they only cover the front springs and that i would have to pay a considerable amount for this repair so i chose to purchase the springs for the rear of the vehicle after talking with the 800 people that said they don't have a reason to cover them but why wouldn't you cover them if the front ones are known to break and they are the same component i just feel that if these springs are breaking that it should be a huge concern to every one and their loved ones we all share the same roads and what if they were to break at 65mph shouldn't we correct the problem and just recall the suspension components ie all four coil springs. *jb

The rear left spring had broken off at the bottom by the support. the car was drivable. but out of concern, i went to a local repair shop. also the mechanic noticed that a stabilizer bar bolt was missing. so i authorized them to replace the springs, struts and stabilizer bars to the tune of 1000$. i can verify the exact amount by receipt. unfortunately i didn't take pictures or save the old parts. *nm

I own a 2000 ford taurus model ses and have encountered suspension problems as related to the coil springs. two years ago the left front coil spring broke and punctured my left front tire while driving and i nearly hit a utility pole. i found out there was a recall and both left and right front coil springs were replaced by ford dealer. yesterday, while my car was at the body shop, they noticed that the driver's side rear coil spring was broken and it has cut a groove into the tire and will cause the same dangerous action as the front coil did two years age. i might not had been as lucky this time, depending on where and at what speed i was driving, if i had not had the vehicle in the body shop and they had not found the defect. it is amazing to me that ford motor corp.,would not have recalled the rear coil springs, the same as they did for the front. they are basically the same configuration, and perform the same function as the front coils, did they not think that it would not be the same outcome. this is extremely dangerous and could cause serious injury and most likely death in many instances. the real problem is that the owner is unaware of the problem until something happens. i did not know or have any inkling, in either case, that the springs were broke. there is no way of telling unless the car is on a lift, so if an owner is lucky enough to have the vehicle in the shop for repairs or inspection, it would most likely go unnoticed until a tire blew and put their life in jeopardy while on the road.

2000 taurus drivers door handles failed. *ts several times, while the vehicle was still covered under it's extended warranty, the consumer had to have the driver' s door open on the vehicle. the dealer claimed that moisture got into the locks. the dealer sprayed the locks. during the winter of 2004 and 2005 the consumer had to hold the door while driving until the lock thawed enough to close properly. the consumer also had a problem with the rear driver's side door not unlocking. now all four door handles are not working properly. *nm

Noticed within last 2000 miles that the transmission would slip and jerk when driving up steep grades or sharp turns, when it would attempt to downshift from 3rd to 2nd. it failed completely last night while driving home, fortunately we were only 3 miles from our home. now it will only go 25 mph and has a burning odor. it has 103k miles and the auto trans was serviced (filter/fluid changed) every 35k miles. we will get an estimate for the repair/replacement, however i suspect a bill from $1500-2200 is in order. all the news i heard about ford automatics is now substantiated....this is the last ford for us period. *nm

In the summer of 2006 i took my 2000 ford taurus se in to get the brakes checked. auto mechanic informed me the rear springs were broken. took vehicle to local ford dealership and they said the same thing, springs broken. last weekend (1/13/07) i took the vehicle in for a couple of new tires. this auto mechanic also informed me rear springs were broken and advised of danger of rear tires being punctured and blown out. technician actually showed me broken springs. were very rust and pointed. got new rear springs, struts, sway bar, alignment for a cost of approximately $800.00. this car has less than 40,000 miles! *jb

Traveling at 70 mph on the interstate, the car just stopped accelerating when pushing the gas pedal. the transmission had simply shut down. the transmission had given us no problems before this time. we brought it to a transmission shop, the torque converter had to be replaced. the cost was $1100. the owner of the shop says he gets in 2 taurus' a month with the torque converter stripped out. he replaced it with a higher quality torque converter. we contacted ford, and explained that the car only had 56, 000 miles on it and that a transmission should not fail after only 56,000 miles when it has been maintained and taken care of. ford refused to help in any way at all. they were not concerned that we were left stranded on the side of the interstate after dark, with no warning that anything was wrong. they did not care that our safety had been compromised because of a defective product that ford made. *nm

At ~92,000 miles on my 2000 ford taurus a noise developed, when turning the steering wheel, that was diagnosed by the dealership service department as a broken coil spring on the driver side front suspension. they warned of possible tire failure if a piece broke off and punctured the tire. they noted that the cost of this work would be covered due to the recall. at the same time the service personnel reported that both of the rear coil springs were broken. it seemed unusual that they would inspect the rear suspension for a noise that was coming from the area of the front left wheel. dealer service personnel offered that the rear springs may have been broken for a 'long time, possibly years...' . further warned that rear tires could be punctured by a piece of these springs. clearly, they knew the rear springs were suspect and were looking for a non-recall service opportunity. obviously all of these springs were either improperly designed or of substandard material or substandard workmanship. i would not want to replace the rear springs without some assurance (over seen by the nhtsa office) that the new springs were not of quality similar to the oem springs that were prone to failure. i was lucky not to have suffered an accident from any of the failures, i do not want to 'press my luck'. i will have the dealer replace the right front spring and install the guards on both front suspensions. i will request the failed spring. *jb

I have a 2000 ford taurus. left front spring punctured tire and damaged abs system. repairs were taken care of at dealership (front coils under recall). now i have a problem with rear coils ( i know two other people with same car and same problem). one day i heard a "dragging sound" could not visually find the source. i just went for state inspection and was told that both rear springs are broken, both struts are damaged and a sway bar link is broken. i can not get an inspection sticker without paying out of pocket over $900.00. i am told that the damage is not covered. i am shocked that three coils have broken on my low mileage car. after reading over 80 similar complaints, i feel very lucky that i was not driving during these incidents...*jb

I have a concern about what happened last week to my tires. all four tires went bad within a couple of weeks of each other. i began to feel bumping on the road, and within 2 weeks it was bad enough to take the car in to the ford shop. i was shown where each tire had begun to separate and get warped. i could feel the up-and-down bumpiness in the tires with my own hand when they showed it to me. this was on all the tires. one was so bad it looked like a bubble. these tires only had 53,800 miles on them; on a new car i got through military overseas car sales in april 2000. i have had all the regular servicing/rotation/checks and my husband routinely checked the pressures. my concern is that these all had the same lot number - we checked them to be sure. the a3x844p0400 number was on all of them. the report reads "all 4 tires are worn out - belt separated." the ford shop personnel said this is a very rare occurrence and they felt it was worth reporting. if someone else has these tires and and accident results from this separation, it would not be good. therefore, i am reporting my event so that if there are others, you may take appropriate actions to prevent injuries/damages. i will also send a copy of this note to dot and mil overseas sales. i had to replace all four tires @ a cost of $717.91 thank you for your attention. linda shiraishi 1760 150th ave san leandro ca 94578. *nm

Car door open light remains on and door locks will not secure when car is placed into gear and moved. you may press lock mechanism on the door, but locks will unlock again almost instantly. i believe and have been told by my mechanic that this is a problem with the door lock switch. it may be one or all four doors causing this lack of security. *nm

I recently purchased a car in december of 2005 and have $6000 as a current balance. on 05/03/2006 i was cranking up my car when it ignited and caught fire and was completely destroyed before the fire department could get there. i called the ford customer relation department and explained the situation to them and requested that they replace my car because a 2000 ford taurus should not just ignite on fire from cranking it up, and they denied my request. i would very much like for your assistance on this matter or are companies allowed to sell customers defective cars and nothing be done about it. i only had liability insurance on it so the insurance company could not assist me. i informed the dealer from where i purchased it and they also said they could not help me. *jb

When turning to the left or going over bumps sounded like items were shifting or clunking in the trunk. everything taken out of the trunk and the noise continued. the rear suspension was looked at and found to have loose rear sway bar links. the sway bar was replaced. *nm

I was backing out of a parking spot and noticed rubbing and resistance in the rear driver's side of the car. i pulled back into the parking spot. as soon as i put the car in park there was a very loud pop. i got out of the car to find the rear driver's side tire had blown. i had the tire replaced. when the mechanic was driving the car out of the garage he noticed the grinding and rubbing in the rear driver's side. when further looking at the car it was found the rear driver's side coil spring had broken. the jagged edge of the coil spring had gouged the sidewall of the tire nearly all the way around. in the short drive of the mechanic driving the car to the front of the building and back in the garage to further look at the car, another tire had been damaged by the broken coil. i had to replace 2 coil springs, 2 tires and sway bar. i still have the old tires and coil springs. thank goodness i was not driving down the highway when this happened. *nm

I had an appointment on saturday 5/6/06 for a recall to put a guard on the front coil springs. on tuesday, 5/2/06, the front driver's side coil spring broke, rupturing the tire and causing the front end of the car to hit the road. ford replaced the front coil springs, put on the guards and replaced the front tire as part of the extended warranty of the recall. the rear driver's side coil spring broke as well, tearing up the rear tire but not bursting it. both the tire and the coil spring needed to be replaced which was not covered under the warranty/recall. the faulty coil springs used on the front of the car are also used on the back and should be included in the recall. normal use of this type of vehicle with less than 65,000 miles should not result in broken coil springs even in a so called "corrosion state". *nm

The rear drivers side coil spring broke causing the remaining spring to come out of the lower mounting bracket/support. i almost lost control of the car and while my tire was not punctured it has a gouge in the sidewall all the way around where the spring rubbed against it as i was stopping. *nm

I was driving my 2000 ford taurus along a smooth road at 35 mph. the rear driver side tire, which only had 10,000 miles on it, went flat with a loud bang and hissing sound. after the vehicle was taken to my residence i jacked up the vehicle and removed the flat tire. upon inspection the tire had a 1/2 inch hole through the sidewall and a groove cut all the way around the tire making repair useless. i looked at the strut area and noticed the driver side rear strut spring had broken and it was pointing toward the area needed for the tire, it was shiny on the end of the spring from rubbing the tire causing its failure. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20mph, the rear of the vehicle dropped followed by a popping noise. after an initial inspection, the left rear tire had blown out. while the contact attempted to change the tire, it was determined the rear coil springs were fractured and had punctured the tire. the vehicle was not seen by a dealer.

I had just pulled out of my driveway recently and heard a loud crack come from the rear of the car. i thought i hit something, so i stopped the car and went out and looked at the rear suspension. i had heard of the front springs cracking, but not the rears, but i was surprised to find the rear spring on the left side of the car had cracked. having taken automotive classes before, i was able to replace the springs myself with a new set from ford, bypassing the dealer because they would not cover the cost of replacing the springs. this was an inconvenience for me at the time, and it ended up costing me money for a part that shouldn't have failed. i didn't think much of the part failure, and ford didn't help me much, so i did not report it. it wasn't until i talked to others who have had the same problems recently that i chose to report this to you at the nhtsa. i hope something is done to prevent future failures, it could be dangerous if i was on the highway or moving at a faster speed. the car is a 2000 ford taurus sel. i didn't think much of the failure at the time. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 35 mph, a loud bang was heard from the rear end. the vehicle was taken to the contact's residence and then to the dealership. the dealership determined the rear driver side coil spring fractured. the coil spring and tire are being replaced.

2000 ford taurus with 42500 miles breakage of driver rear coil spring that wedged against tire and was cutting a section out of the side wall of the tire. that tire had approx 32,000 miles on it. it had a huge layers out of the side wall of the tire inb under 10 miles. would have been a blow out if it had happened during highway driving. repair cost 1216.80. *nm

Brought vehicle in for servicing and mechanic found that one of the rear spring were broke and the other was in bad shape. both coils had to be replaced along with the struts. *nm

Having trouble with shifter cable on this car, after putting car into i thought was park, the car drifted and the brakes had to be applied. the bolt fell out and the car would not start. this should be looked into asap and then recall said item, this is a serious safety matter. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25 mph the left rear coil spring broke puncturing the left rear tire. the vehicle was driven to a local independent repair shop. the mechanic replaced the left rear coil spring, left and right struts, and left rear tire. the dealership was alerted.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle displayed no obvious signs of a suspension problem, however, at an annual state inspection, it was determined that both front coil springs were broken as well as the tie rod assembly and sway bar. a nhtsa recall, # 04v332000 concerning the suspension was performed on the vehicle. the front coil springs were previously repaired accordingly as indicated in the recall. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer repaired the front coil springs under an extended warranty, but did not cover the cost of the tie rod assembly and sway bar.

Had right rear spring break and cut into my tire. car has less then 52,000 miles on it. both rear springs, shocks and damaged tire were replaced and car was aligned. ford motor company picked up half of replacement cost even though car was out of warranty. *jb

This taurus has only 40,000 miles,driven locally,garaged and adult driven. i was pulling out of my driveway head-first and noticed that the rear of the taurus suddenly bottomed out on the "skirt" of the driveway. the" bottom-rear "of the taurus scraped heavily on the concrete surface. i pulled over and noticed the rear of the taurus sitting much too close to the ground. upon further inspection with a flashlight, i noticed the left rear coil spring had snapped in half. one piece of the spring was now rubbing against the tire and brake line. the other half of the spring is still mounted, but a broken jagged edge just missed puncturing the left rear tire by a half of an inch. if i had driven the car any further, one spring would have eventually cut the brake line and the other probably would have punctured the tire on the first right turn made. ford has failed to acknowledge the safety consequences of this rear spring defect. the car has been sitting in my garage for three days until i can afford the $550-$600 repair. the sole reason i bought the ford taurus was for its overall safety and crash test ratings. little did i know that the cause of the crash would be the failure of the front(recalled already) and/or rear coil springs on the car itself. and now ford chooses to look the other way. *jb

Driver side rear spring coil broke, puncturing my tire and almost causing an accident. called dealership. my extended warranty had just expired march 10, 2006. today is march 13th 2006. the spring coil malfunctioned march 12th 2006. they want to charge $475.00. i believe this should be a recall issue. *nm

Had vehicle in local shop for oil change and new battery, asked them to research clanking noise coming from front driver side wheel/tire. upon investigation they stated broken spring coil, then noticed that rear passenger side spring coil broken and edge was rubbing against tire to the point where it has created a groove into the tire. mechanic stated that it should be taken care of immediately and decision was made to cut 1-2 inch piece to relieve pressure from tire until vehicle can be brought into dealership. until this point i was totally unaware that anything this severe was wrong. contacted ford customer service line and they indicated extension of warranty on front spring but not rear. suggested to take it to dealer. contacted dealer and they immediately took a "defensive" attitude, by asking has the vehicle been in a car accident or what did i hit. neither has occurred, otherwise car would have been seriously out of alignment. *nm

Front passenger seat belt locked up in a partially extended position. it will neither extend further or retract, rendering the front passenger seat of the vehicle unsafe for use. *jb

Rear spring (driver's side) fractured while driving causing damage to the rear tire. the front springs on this vehicle were part of an nhtsa recall (#04v332000) which allowed ford to address defects with the front springs fracturing by placing shields on them, rather than replacing them. obviously the defect could happen on all springs on this vehicle and ford needs to replace them, not just put a shield on them. luckily this was a low-speed incident. i shutter to think that i might not be here to write this, if this had happened at highway speeds. *nm

Pe05054 add my vehicle to the number of those that have the problem. i took my car in for an alignment and the dealer told me of the broken spring. my car has not been repaired yet. *jb

Nhtsa action number: pe05054 i was sitting at a red light when i heard a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle. this was followed by a "grinding" noise. i was extremely concerned having no idea what it was. i was fortunately less than a mile from a bp procare where a friend works. i immediately pulled in driving less than a mile and never exceeding 30 mph. the passenger rear coil had "popped" as he put it. i only have 52,000 miles on the car which is only six years old. i find it to be a nuisance to replace a tire with less than 5,000 miles on it, and am extremely disappointed that the coil spring would have such a short life span to it. thankfully it happened at a red light, not on the highway, especially without my children in the car. *jb

After placing luggage in trunk of car after a trip. i left the parking area, i heard a rubbing sound from the left rear area of the vehicle. i checked for the noise, but could see nothing, and continued home. trip was approximatly 30 miles. the next day i took the car to my mechanic, and was informed that the left rear spring had broken about 1/4 quarter of the way down from the top. the rubbing noise was the broken end of the coiled spring coming in contact with the inside of the tire. thhis was caused by the excessive rusted and corroded condition of the coiled spring. i was very fortunate that the tire had not blown out. in september of the same year (2005), i had brought the car into the dealer for a recall for the front coil springs, where the installed a shield to prevent the spring from puncturing the tires. (this was for vehicles in high salt corrosion areas). i feel that the same recall or an additional recall should have been issued for the rear springs. upon inspection of the right rear spring, it was determined that there was not rust or corrosion, only the left one had this problem. *nm

(1) heard loud "sprong" sound while driving at highway speed. i thought i might have hit something in road. the right rear tire went flat a few minutes later. it was early morning and dark so i replaced the tire with the spare and did not notice any other issues. today, 1/6/2006, the sears tire center found that the right rear coil spring had failed and then wore into and punctured the right rear tire. (2) right rear coil spring failed puncturing right rear tire (3) replaced tire and waiting for parts to replace both rear coil springs. old springs will be available if requested. tire was kept by sears. *jb

On 12/2/04 i brought my vehicle to ford for a repair. my cruise control was not disengaging from the steering wheel, i had to step on the brake to accomplish this. the repair was done. i had no further problems with this until aprox 12/14/05. the same exact problem recurred with the cruise control not disengaging from the steering wheel. when i contacted the ford dealer who did the original repair, i was told i would have to pay for the service repair since they only warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. i feel this is a safety hazard. clearly a repair such as this should not recur if new parts were used. either there should be a recall for this issue or faulty parts were used. when i contacted ford mfg i was told the same >>>my warranty had expired (by 2 weeks i should add)>>>so i was out of luck. no wonder ford is going under! anyway, that's my issue. please advise. *jb

The incident happened as i was driving home in my 2000 ford taurus sel on the illinois toll road on 12/20/2005 using cruise control in extremely cold weather (8-11 degrees). i drove several miles, and then exited the expressway when suddenly the accelerator stuck at about 50-55 miles per hour. the accelerator pedal would not release. i drove the car for nearly 2 miles trying to decide what to do, and was unable to stop the car completely. finally, near my home, in an open, less-traveled area, i tried to stop, but the engine continued to race, and the car jumped forward. i proceeded through the red light, pulled over to the side and flipped the key to the off position, which stopped the car. i immediately lost all steering capability and came to a stop. i tried to restart the vehicle, but the engine revved to 4000 rpm and i immediately turned the car off. after trying this twice, and tapping the pedal heavily to try to release the stuck accelerator, i proceeded to open the hood with the car off. i tried to find the accelerator cable in the cold (now 4 degrees) and dark. after searching for approximately 15 minutes, i again tried to start the car and it started normally. i was then able to drive home cautiously. tomorrow i will contact my ford vehicle for service. this has happened a few times recently, but it never stuck for more than a few seconds. however, this incident was not only extremely frightening and dangerous, but also could have potentially damaged the engine and brakes. the nhtsa must recall these vehicles immediately, as this is an extremely dangerous situation!! i am lucky that i was driving at approximately 2:30 in the morning with little traffic, with no other passengers in the vehicle, and that the brakes were able to slow the vehicle. otherwise, this could have been a potentially deadly situation for myself and other motorists. *jb

The front coil spring broke and punctured the front tire on my 2000 ford taurus. i had the damage repaired then found out there was a recall. i contacted ford and they refuse to reimburse me because i did not use a ford dealer. they admitted they did not send a recall notice because they did not have me as the current owner, i have owned the car for over four years. they told me they are not responsible to notify me of a recall because i am not the original purchaser of the car. *jb

My car is a 2000 ford taurus (vin number is 1fafp55ugya213531). i have the same problem as the nhtsa campaign id number 01v075000. the headlamp switch knob is fractured and does not correctly attach to the headlamp switch. i went to the dealership in macon, ga, and was told that this specific recall does not apply to my vin number, even though i have the same make, model, and year car. my only option the dealership gave me was to pay $80 to install a complete new light switch, even though all i need is a new knob. i was told that the knob is not sold as a separate part, only as a complete new switch. i would like this recall extended to cars like mine. this causes difficulty for me to turn on and off the headlights. *nm

Gradual loss of heater, defrost capability. then total non function of either. bad visibility from foggy windows, no defrost at all. repeated flushing of cooling systems will help for a while. the heater core will eventual need to be replaced. *jb

I heard a rather loud snap in the right rear of my 2004 taurus. the right rear suspension spring broke causing the broken part of the spring to lodge against the right rear tire causing it to cut the tire badly enough that it had to be replaced. car was taken to repair shop and diagnosed and repaired. this is the second spring to break on this car. the other one was the right front spring. it broke, if i remember, in may of 2004. *nm

While inspecting the brakes on our 2000 taurus, our mechanic was surprised to find that both rear coil springs were broken. it is troubling because he has over 30 years experience and never saw that before. they are being replaced. *jb

On march 16, 04, a part to correct the steering on my 2000 ford taurus was replaced. in october 05, the same part needed to be replaced. i was told the parts are only under warranty for 12 months. the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. i have paid to have this part replaced. *jb

My 2000 ford taurus se rear coil spring broke on 11-22-05 which in turn punctured my rear tire cause it to lose air. i have to replace the coil and tire. i have not replaced it as of yet. i called ford on 11-24-05 after hearing about a recall to see if it was covered yet and it's not. ford customer hotline told me that i would have to cover the cost of the parts and repair because the front coils are the only ones covered by the recall. i asked, what's the difference between the front coils and the back? she couldn't answer it. i wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when this happened i was driving on the highway didn't hit any bumps or anything. it just broke! thank god i made it home without an accident.*jb

Dt: the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph the left front driver coil spring broke. after the coil spring broke it tore the front tire into shreds. the vehicle made it back home, and was towed to the dealer. they replaced both coil springs on the front. this was covered under a previous recall. now, the contact was worried about the back coil springs being affected, and that they may fail also. the contact was in contact with ford motor company. they said that the front coil springs were covered under the recall ,and they gave the contact an extended warranty on the coil springs. also, the consumer heard something on the news about someone wanting to open a congressional hearing on the back coil springs, and that was where the concern was coming from. the vehicle is a 2000 ford taurus.*ak

Nhtsa campaign id # 01v258000 - windshield wiper/washer motor...i have a 2000 ford taurus, my windshield wiper motor has stopped working. i remembered that there was a recall on it. when i called the ford customer service department (and i use that term very loosely), i was told that a ford dealership has already repaired the recall (don reid ford). when i explained that the part was never, ever repaired by them...the customer service rep. & her supervisor, said that there was nothing that they could do, because the "records" showed it was repaired in october 2001. my car has never been taken in for this repair to be done. i asked the unhelpful customer service rep (and her supervisor) what my options were, and i was told that i was welcome to take it to any ford dealer to have the repair done, at my expense...even though the recall has never been repaired. i know that the dealers get paid money when they do recall work...and i also know that there are a lot of dishonest people out there that will do anything to earn a dollar. now having said that...what is a person to do, that has an unrepaired recall problem, and it has been labeled as repaired? all of the symptoms that i am experiencing right now, are the exact same ones listed in the recall notice. can someone please lead me in the right direction? *nm

Dt: contact stated that the coil spring on the right rear suspension broke and punctured the tire. consumer stated they drove the vehicle for about a week while it broke, but could hear a rubbing noise. consumer's husband checked the vehicle, then had it towed to a dealer, and the dealer repaired the vehicle on august 5, 2005. dealer did not state what might have caused the problem.*ak

While having vehicle wheels aligned, mechanic noted drivers side rear springs broken and passenger side spring cracked. when consulted by phone, ford offered a repair estimate of over $600 dollars. *jb

I own a 2000 ford taurus on which the drivers side rear coil spring broke. the broken spring cut a gouge on the inside of the tire and punctured it. this resulted in a flat tire while my wife was driving. to correct the failure our local ford dealer had to replace both back springs and two tires. the broken part is not available, but the problem is noted on the service order. *nm

When driving the car there was a sound like something was rubbing on the tires. when pulling in to the driveway the noise got worse. later in the day when driving the car it started to smell hot like something was burning. we took the car to the nearest repair shop ( as we were afraid to drive the car any further). the repair shop told us that the left rear spring had broken, destroyed the strut and damaged the left rear tire. they also told us that when springs and struts are replaced they are done in pairs (you just can not fix one). so the rear springs and struts on both sides were replaced for the cost of $635.00. we had the recall covers installed on the front of the car to prevent this same thing happening in late summer of this year. in 2004 we had to replace right front tine as it was punctured from the inside. the ford dealership repair dept. stated at that time that it was not because of spring failure but know we wonder if that was true. we do have the defective parts in our possession. *jb

I bought my ford taurus in 2001 and it was a daily driver. summer of 2005 i had my rear spring snap on both sides and pop on tire, i had to replace my struts/springs and tires for a total of $1,300. both struts where leaking, both springs broken, and one of the rear tires was pops because of the broken strut. my car had about 75,000 miles at the time. i replaced all four tires as a set.

In june 2005 while on our way home from vacation we heard a loud thunk and rubbing in the rear of our car. we got the car home at which point my husband jacked up the car and took off the tires. he found that the coil springs were broken on both sides of the car. we took the car to our local service center. it cost me 600.00 to fix the springs, alignment and the 2 tires that wore unevenly. we called the local ford dealer to get pricing but they were a lot more than our local service center. this is not the first major problem i have had with the taurus. *nm

Very poor visibility through windshield especially on humid days. i use my windshield wipers and defroster and still can't see. the car has been like this since new. i've noticed it more since i started working days, it is dangerous driving car on morning commute.*jb

I was involved in a car accident on 09/25/2005. i was at a stop light and there was a 1996 ford f-150 in front on me. i was driving a 2000 ford taurus. from behind at approximately 60-70 mph came a 1996 ford taurus that slammed into the back of me. my car was forced into the f-150. my car was totaled in front and back. the driver of the 1996 taurus was under the influence of crystal meth & alcohol. he was arrested. his airbags deployed in the 1996 taurus. in my 2000 ford taurus neither my driver's nor passenger side airbag deployed. i was thrown into my steering wheel and my neck jerked. i am 5 months pregnant. i was taken away by ambulance. they were able to do an ultrasound on the baby, but they could not give x-rays because i am pregnant. so i have been in pain taking extra strength tylenol. i have obtained a lawyer, because i feel that my airbags are defective. *jb

Dt: the contact owns a 2000 ford taurus. while driving the vehicle at various speeds the car will stall, it will choke, and completely shut off. took the vehicle to the dealer, and they were unable to correct the problem. the dealership did a diagnostic on vehicle, and she was unsure of what the part was called, but it was something electrical under the engine (sensor switch). she took vehicle to mechanic for repair of the part that the dealer diagnosed as the problem. the part has been replaced twice and still has not corrected the problem. the problem first began in march 2004. since the beginning of this problem her car cut off at least 12 times. four of those 12 times was while she was on the freeway. *ak

Vehicle intake manifold exploded resulting in near fire which also damaged the emission valve. *ts the consumer had difficulty starting the vehicle and on the second try is when the explosion was heard. the consumer was told when the intake manifold exploded it shattered into large fragments and scattered through out the engine, 2 weeks later the emissions light illuminated. the consumer tool the vehicle to the dealer and upon examination it was discovered the emissions valve was damaged due to the explosion or was the origin of the problem which may have caused the intake manifold to fail. *jb

With out prior warning, both rear coil springs broke. i had the coil springs replaced at the ford dealership. also as a result, after getting new tires (unrelated to the problem with the coil springs), there was something else broken in the back end which will not allow a tire alignment. this has not yet been repaired. *nm

I should have filed this earlier this year. my 2000 ford taurus had a recall in 8-2004 (but the shield to cover the coil springs was not made available for almost 6 months - which could have prevented the ultimate problem). the front coil spring broke and punctured the passenger side front tire while i was backing up. luckily i was not going fast as it was very apparent i would have been in an extremely serious crash otherwise. this was towed to tire shop first, then to dealer and coil springs in front of car were replaced as was affected tire at no cost. however, now i see that the rear coil springs have malfunctioned in the same way on the same year/model car. i am not looking forward to a wait, or guessing game to see if my car will be one of the affected ones. i have had many problems and would like some assurance that i or my family will not suffer the consequences of the failure of yet another coil spring on my car. incident date is approximate, as i will have to pull out records. *nm

Rear coil spring broke on my 2000 ford taurus and punctured passenger side rear tire. i was going about 15 mph since the traffic was backed up, otherwise if i would have been going faster, i could have been killed. i had to drive to nearest open tire dealer for new tire and new springs. ford would not help me since i didn't get it fixed at a ford dealer (but they were all closed when this happened (around 6:30 pm). i contacted the ford dealer and gave them all my receipts, but they won't do anything. *nm

Tire blow out caused by a broken right rear coil spring. fortunately happened in driveway a low speed. had repaired at a tire dealer. broken parts not saved. *nm

The rear middle seat belt retractor on my 2000 taurus has failed making the rear middle seat usuable only without a seat belt. the seat belt itself retracted all the way back into the mechanism but will not retract back out. this is the second such failure of the rear seat belt i've experienced. previously, the rear passenger side seat belt got stuck in a similar fashion. this car is becoming increasing unsafe and i am loosing confidence in its other highly touted safety features.

2000 ford taurus. driving at night, headlights and all running-park lights failed. parked car and idled while trying different headlight switch positions. after about 15 minutes, lighting resumed normal operation. dealer (of course) could find no problems nor cause of the failure. factory customer support was contacted, and have yet to receive call-back. *nm

September 5, 2005 my car started to smoke and when the hood was lifted there was a fire. within seconds my car was engulfed in flames. it was reported that there was some sort of electrical problem. *nm

We had this vehicle checked several times due to the airbag light coming on/staying on/flashing. on one occasion the sensor was replaced, after that it was cleaned, due to corrosion at the connection. my wife was involved in an auto accident on 8/16/05 where the car was hit on the drivers side front end at approximately 50 miles per hour, the posted speed limit. none of the airbags deployed. my wife sustained whiplash from the accident. *jb

The "low coolant" sensor on my 2000 taurus has failed a second time. the "low coolant" indicator light comes on every time the car is running even though the coolant level is correct (within the specified range). previously, the first failure was under warranty. the second failure at 68,000 miles cost $120 to replace at the dealer. replacement parts were only available through ford dealers as no after-market parts stores could get these parts. the sensor itself is integrated into the coolant overflow tank, cost approximately $60.

While taurus was being serviced for a broken right front coil spring and link,the dealer notified me to tell me that the rear springs were also broken and needed to be replaced. they said it was caused by weather conditions in the northeast, the same cause given for the front springs. the front springs were covered by a recall,however the rear springs were not. they were replaced at a cost of $322.43 which i had to pay. *nm

2000 ford taurus headlights failed.*mr the headlight seals failed which allowed moisture to form on the inside surface of the lens. this reduces the amount of light given off by 10-25%. *nm

Vehicle "chokes" out without warning. has occurred while in reverse as well as driving at 60 mph. vehicle will stall without warning at various speeds. have had to repair facility who can find nothing diagnostically wrong. no reading off computer equipment to signify a malfunction. this is a repeated failure beginning in march 2005. vehicle had approximately 68,000 at the time of the initial failure.

Salt corrosion lead to failure of rear coils. rear coils replaced. *jb

Dt: 2000 ford taurus. the car was in an accident on the july 4,2005. while driving at 25-30 mph an oncoming vehicle turned in front of consumer's vehicle and it swerved to miss the car and hit a lamp post head on. the air bags did not deploy. the passenger sustained injuries. a police report was filed. the body shop said they did not know why the air bags did not deploy. called the dealership where the car was purchased and they said it could have been that the impact was not hard enough or the car was not hit the right spot to deploy the air bags. *ak *nm

I took my 2000 taurus se to my local ford dealership since i heard a loud "bang" under the rear of the car and a scraping, motion induced, noise (i had heard a similar bang before which immediately went away, but no scraping). a rear spring was broken (and was scraping against the tire), but both springs had to be replaced (expensive repair) since they have to be "tuned" and be the same. the dealer mentioned that there was over a three week delay (maybe more) from ford for the springs, so he used "after-market" replacements. this tells me that there are likely a lot of bad ones (likely defective metalluragically or badly designed/engineered) and it could be a bad situation if it had occurred on the road. mine fully broke in the parking lot behind my apartment. later, i found the broken piece of about 8" in linear length, indicating one old break and a new one (breaks were different color). i believe that this is a metallurgical failure with defects in the metal of the spring. i'm a retired person and treat my car well (avoid chuckholes, etc.). this has never happened on any of my other cars in my entire lifetime. i also believe it could be very dangerous in an open road situation and should be investigated for a recall. months ago there was a recall to put shields around the front springs to avoid contact with salt and the elements. i still have the broken piece that i found in my apartment parking lot. i suspect that there are too many of these, and that is why ford motor co. has a long backlog on the parts (my car isn't that old and it only has 51,000 miles on the odometer).

Over a year ago i heard a metal hitting metal sound on the front drivers side. my auto repair guy could not find any problem. so life went on driving over 50 miles a day to work. one day i came out of the house and saw my tire flat, the same drivers side front. i took my husband's truck to work. when i returned home after work my husband had been working on the vehicle. he saw that there was a flat tire so he went to the store to get a can of fix a flat. he used it per directions. he could still hear air leaking so he put air in the tire with his air compressor. he could still hear air so he figured he would move the car and get the fix a flat mixing around. he put it in gear and heard the tire blow. he decided to fix the flat tire. it took him almost an hour to get the broken coil spring out of the tire. we had no idea that this was a recall, we had not recieved notification of any recalls on the taurus. we had no money to fix it, since my husband is on ssd, it sat in my drive way for 3 months. a friend stopped over and said hey check on line see if this is due to a recall. sure enough it was a recall. and so wasn't the break pedal switch that made my break lights stop working last winter. i did not know what it was so i stuck electrical tape on the wires until the break lights worked again. it is not right to allow ford or any other manufacturer off the hook with these safety recalls, that have caused accidents injures and deaths. everyone who owns one of these vehicles should be notified of the recalls. i was never notified of anything. when i called ford headquarters to ask about it they to me that it was my responsibility to register my car and id # and adress, phone so they can contact me if there is a recall. then they read to me rebatum the law indicating that they are to go thru the state vehicle registrations to inform all owners of any recalls. i informed them that that was definitely an excuse and it was not an acceptable answer or statement.

The headlight swith knob (which is plastic) fractured. the electrical part of the switch is fine but the plastic knob is broken so there is no way to turn the headlights off or on unless you use a pliers.

Dt: 2000 ford taurus station wagon. the headlight assembly was cloudy and got moisture on the inside of the plastic itself. it sweats from the inside. called manufacturer, and asked for any recalls or problems on the headlights. they said no. the only solution for this was to replace the headlights for a cost of $155.00 and with only a year warranty or 12,000 mile. consumer spoke to a junk yard, and they said that this had been a problem since 1985. consumer owned this car since it was new, i, and just noticed this last week. consumer inspected vehicle and could not find any i seal fractures or broken lenses on the light or assembly. *ak

2000 ford taurus was involved in an accident when the consumer was trying to park the vehicle. the accelerator pedal became stuck and the brake equipment was not responding.*mr pulls to left. tires were rotated and front end alignment performed. check engine light came on and the dpfe sensor was replaced.

I was driving a country road, going around a curve and a bridge, heard a loud bang (clunk) sound, then the rear sounded like it was dragging. my husband inspected the car and found that the right rear coil next to my tire broke in half and dug into the tire, causing a big tear all the way around the tire. we had to have both rear coils replaced (he said the car would be off balance if they changed only one) and also replaced the tire that was destroyed, this is on a 2000 ford taurus. *nm

Left front coil spring broke. fortunately, i found the broken spring and had it replaced before it caused other damage. the spring was corroded all the way through. the ford dealer replaced both front springs.

My car was towed to a garage on 6/26/05 due to a passengers rear spring break and tire puncture. when both tires were removed it was found that both srpings were broken and drivers rear tire had some wear on the inside. the cost to repair and replace tires was $600.00 and i was without a car for 5 days.

Dt: took 2000 ford taurus to the mechanic for service, and they said new spark plugs were needed. ford dealer replaced another part on the vehicle. currently, when it gets up to 40-50 mph it lurches 2 0r 3 times.*ak

Dt: while consumer was leaning up against the car the font coil spring broke and busted the front tire. took vehicle to the dealer ,and they fixed the font coil spring, and replaced the tire due to a recall. currently, dealer said that the back coil springs broke, and they will not release the car unless the car was towed off the lot. dealer said that one of the back coil springs was poking into the tire. repair costs cost is $420.00 rear spring and $272.85 for tire. *ak

My husband got a flat tire which by itself is nothing. however, the day following the tire incident, after having purchased two new tires and an alignment for the back of the car, the steering wheel was shaking. he, ofcourse, went right back to sears and asked them what is up with the alignment of the car. they took a closer look and found that the rear coil spring had broken. we were advised not to drive the car anywhere except to the dealer. the car is now at the dealers. they told us we were in luck because there was a safety recall and they would fix it free of charge. after leaving the car with them, they called us the next day and said that the recall was for the front springs only. i was just letting you know that the rear coil spring breaks too. hope this information is helpful for someone in the future. we ofcourse have to pay for this repair.

Dt: consumer has 2000 ford taurus. fuel pump died in mid march. consumer has been in contact with ford for two weeks. consumer contacted dealer before burning ethanol, and was told that as long as the vehicle was marked fuel flexible she could burn ethanol. burning ethanol was the reason the consumer believed the fuel pump failed. the emission control lights came on and then the vehicle began to surge and die. the consumer said this happened in her driveway. it could have been a real safety issue. the vehicle was serviced for emission light on may 20th. *ak the sticker on the inner door of the gas tank read use ethanol or unleaded fuel only. the consumer needed a new fuel pump because it was not holding pressure. *sc the consumer was told the vehicle was not a flex fuel vehicle and that it had been mis-labeled and the vehicle was only to have unleaded fuel not ethanol. *jb

I was driving to a nearby gas station for gas and heard the flat tire on the rear passengers side. since only a block from teh station which had air i drove there in hopes of putting air in the tire to get to somewhere to repair or replace the tire. that did not work. after 2 1/2 hours of waiting for someone to come from aaa to change the tire. i was told i had a broken spring and he refused to put the spare on. i waited and 2 hours for a tow truck to have it towed to my garage. on inspection, it was found that the tire had been worn down by the broken spring and punctured a hole in it. both rear springs and tires are replaced. i contacted ford and they said that i need to have it towed and diagnosed by a ford dealer at my expense, before they would decide if they would pay for the repairs. if not i would be responsible to pay all costs. both springs are repaired due to a fear that this may occur on the other side at a high rate of speed and kill me or someone else. i intend to seek reimbursement from ford, but have been told that unless it is recalled i will most likely not get reimbursed.

Right side passenger doors (actuators) failed

The transmission in my 2000 ford taurus suddenly failed as i was leaving a business establishment and was merging into traffic of a 4 lane highway. there had been no warning that there was a potential problem of any kind. after having my vehicle towed to a reputable repair shop, i was informed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle has a little over 52,688 miles.

Dt: the airbags did not deploy during an automobile accident. they deployed after impacting, and consumer hit the steering wheel. the impact was on the front end of the car. the accident had been over for 6 seconds before the airbags deployed. then the airbag deployed and threw the consumer backwards. this was the driver's airbag that was late in deployment, but passenger's air bag caught on fire.*ak *sb

Dt: air bag light came on . took vehicle to dealer and had it fixed. now the air bag light is on again. has not taken back to dealer. air bag light came on, and then started blinking on and off. then it stayed on.*ak

Dt: the vehicle did not start. when the key was placed in the ignition and turned, there was no sound. if the car is driven for a long period of time, it will not start back up after being shut off. *jb

Paint splintered off of rear bumper when a stray shopping cart reportedly bumped vehicle. black rubber bumper exposed. such a slight bump that no structural damage; paint just shattered off of bumper.

Dt: last week the car was serviced, the tires were rotated and a alignment was performed. may 9 2005, the consumer heard a loud noise in the rear end and he discovered the brakes did not work. when the consumer was on his way to the dealer, the rear brakes froze up. the car could not be driven to dealer, the consumer had to have it towed. the mechanic took the rear tires off and the brake drums just fell apart. *jb

Pulling into my driveway, my left rear tire on driver's side blew out, and after investigation by repair shop to replace tire, they discovered that the coil was broken and had cut into the tire causing it to blow out the side wall of the tire. i am having my coil fixed and had to purchase a new tire as a result. this appears to be the same situation for the recall for the front coils on this same vehicle. *jb

I noticed a flat tire on the rear driver's side one morning when i pulled out of my garage and when i brought it to a tire company to get some new tires put on, they informed me that my rear coil spring broke and chewed up my tire. i had to replace both rear coil springs and obtain a new tire. the tire company (suburban tire in berwyn, il) informed my mechanic that many customers of theirs have had the same problem and that ford had reimbursed them for all charges incurred in connection with same. fyi, this car only has 42,000 miles on it.

My husband was driving my car that we paid for in cash, going about 30mph on a slippery road and spun out and hit an electric pole, drivers side hit and the air bag did not deploy. after we already got rid of the car, then someone told me about contacting ford. we didn't have any insurance on it yet. the insurance guy was coming out that night. so this was a total loss. it happened about a month ago and i am still without a vehicle. someone to contact me would be nice about a possible lawsuit.

Nhtsa recall campaign 04v332000 concerning front coil springs. while performing recall repairs mechanic determined that the front driver's side lower ball joint, and the tie rod broke, and needed to be replaced. *ak

About 100' from my house, i experienced a loud explosion. i got out and saw the tire was flat and had spare tire put onto car. could not find any punctures in the tire. took to tire store. person in store told us the driver's rear spring was broken and that it sliced the tire. had the vehicle towed to ford dealer.*ak

Windshield wiper hoses defective on ford 2000 taurus thin platic hoses cracks and brittle to touch causing washer to leak and obstucting drivers ability to see clearly in winter road salted conditions. i have two taurus and both hoses have failed after 4 years. also oil pan gasket have slipped on both vehicles causing oil leaks which if not caught can severly leak oil from engine causing motor to cease. *ak

04v332000/front coil springs. owner received notification from the manufacturer in august, 2004 in regards to this recall. owner was informed, at that time, that parts would be made available in december, 2004. it is january 2005 and there has been no notification from the manufacturer or the dealer informing the owner when the parts would become available. provide further details. *jb

Upon entering the vehicle, the consumer heard a cracking sound. the noise got worse upon starting the vehicle and after driving a few feet. the consumer immediately stopped the vehicle, and arranged to have it towed to the dealership, who indicated that the rear coil spring cracked and cut into the rubber of the tire. the tire and coil had to be replaced. the vehicle is currently sitting at the dealership. this failure was similar to the defect described in recall 04v332000 for the front coil spring. *ak the consumer requested reimbursement. *sc *jb

Consumer complained about passenger's side seat belt. the seat belt will not retract properly when release. it some how, get tangled and twisted when the belt goes back into the retractor.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and had the seat belt serviced. however, the problem recurred. *ak......consumer had the rea rseat belts repaired at $54.00. claimed that deaker should have replaced them at no cost to consumer. it was bad from the beginning, and consumer insisted that dealer inially promised to replace them at no cost to consumer. has a statement to that effect. *ak

Driving vehicle about 30 when the left front spring on my 2000 taurus broke which destroyed the cv voint and stabilizer links. since there is a recall on the front spring on these towed to dealer who said recalled part covered but subsidairy damage covered under warranty i would have to pay 50. vehcile repaired. *ak

Complaint received via e-mail. 2000 ,ford, taurus sel shut down while driving in high speed traffic. it has been to the local ford dealership twice regarding the issue. today after the third occurrence the service technician suggested that i use a different ignition key while operating the vehicle - i do not accept this as a viable solution to the trouble. when the engine dies while in traffic power steering/power brakes, and directional signals are lost. the car is a menace to the driving public. it is only a matter of time before its behavior causes an accident. my car is only 4 years old, and has only 33000 miles. all i wish is for ford to fix the car, so that it is reliable and no longer a danger to myself and the motoring public.*ak

While driving 35-40 mph, the front passenger side wheel separated from the vehicle. no injuries to report. the vehicle was towed to the repair shop. the mechanic informed the consumer that all the lug nuts had shear off. the dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. *jb

Consumer complained about an intake manifold problem. there was a loud noise when starting the vehicle. consumer opened the hood and saw the entire intake manifold blown apart. consumer contacted the dealer, and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. consumer has been waiting for the repair results. *ak

Intake manifold in my ford taurus 2000 sel exploded.vehicle: fafp56s2yg125733. i had this happen to me yesterday with my 2000 ford taurus se. it has 25,000 miles on it. i had taken it to the dealership for some service last week (30th dec) and then had this happen yesterday when i started the car in my garage. we had been driving the car in the meanwhile. i don?t think it is related to the service (they did an oil change and replaced the air filter in addition to other things unrelated to the engine). there was a loud noise immediately after i started the car. it was scary enough that i was ducking behind the steering wheel with my hands covering my head. i thought something had fallen on the car from the garage shelves. then i saw smoke coming from under the hood. i popped up the hood and found that the intake manifold had blown open completely. i called up ford to see if there were any reported cases of this and was told that there was none. i got the car towed to the dealership and they are looking into it as i write this. i have pictures of the manifold and i have asked the dealership not to start any work before they inform me in a written report what the problem is. i have already found 3 other cases of this on the internet, 2 of which are 2000 taurus and sable and other one a mazda with the same engine as mine. i think two of them have already filed a complaint with your office. i would like to know how this problem will be addressed. *ak

I have had to replace my rack and pinion twice (in 2003 and 2004). i purchased my 2000 ford taurus new and have been the only owner. this vehicle has not been in any accident. i am curious if there has been any other complaints or recalls on the rack and pinion for this vehicle. *ak

Backfire and explosion. recall was issued after intake manifold was destroyed along with other parts. the problem was due to weak gaskets. after repairs, the vehicle had begun running rough upon acceleration along with missing. *sc

Delivery status notification (failure) concerning complaint against rome ford mercury lincoln car dealership. *bf the vehicle had been sitting at the dealer with a blown head gasket since july 30, 2004. the consumer was contacted by a representative who informed him that his vehicle was irreparable. *nm

The headlamp switch broke off. other taurus had the same problem and there was a recall, but ford says my car was not involved. the exact same thing that happened to these other cars happened to mine. *jb

Slight noise and vibration but could not locate where from in the car. ront passenger side wheel fell off. all studs were broke.*ak

The complaint was received via e-mail. in june of 2004 i was involved in a head on collision at 40 mph. none of the frontal airbags deployed, but fortunately the seat belts did work, quite possibly preventing serious injuries. a couple of weeks after the accident i notified ford consumer service division about the air bags, but they didn't provide any assistance because my insurance company had already covered the damages, and they have current possession of the vehicle. they just blew me off. *ak *sc

Two front coil spring break, require replacement of tires that were punctured *bf both of the vehicle's front coil springs broke within a week of each other. the consumer requested reimbursement in the amount of $571.71 but only reimbursed $474.83. *nm

When the windshield wipers are turned on the only way to turn them off is by turning the car off. also the intermediete part of the wipers doesn't work since all this started. this has been going on for a couple of months now. i have listed the last day it happened below. *ak

This vehicle had broken a spring in the front. ford issued a recall on this year/make, and model for the same problem. however, the manufacturer was only willing to reimburse the consumer $183.00 of the$ 762.98 that was spent by consumer for the repairs which were needed due to defective coil springs. *ak spring/coil broke on july 14 the day before the recall for this vehicle was published. Ongoing/continuous problems with vehicle stalling at low speed of 25 mph or lower. vehicle had been to the dealer on several occasions but problem recurred. *ak after being serviced the vehicle has the same problems. *tc

Left rear seatbelt would not retract at all. right rear seatbelt was apparently ok. took car in for inspection at 57,945 miles. was told that both seatbelts do not work and need to be replaced. as stated, right side one was fine until they "tested" it, now they claim it will not retract either. car has extended warranty (although we were not told that it did not cover safety items) but safety items are apparently only covered 50,000/5 yrs (we are within the 5 year limit). i am aware that there is a ford technical service bulletin 99v-250 for seatbelts, but i cannot access further info as it is on ford's internal website. i am also under the impression that other taurus model years have been recalled for seatbelts. although my extended warranty is still in effect, i seem to have no recourse, and i find it odd that the right seatbelt failed at the dealer during inspection. service provider is burns ford of huntington, ny. thank you for your attetion to this item.*ak

Failure of air bag deployment in 2001 ford taurus. *mr this was a high speed crash where the consumer could not control the vehicle and impacted a concrete bridge rail. *sc when the consumer first took possession of the vehicle, it had a bad shimmy in the front end when the brakes were applied. the dealer found the rotors were warped, a few days after the rotors were replaced the rear end of the vehicle fish tailed, the dealer then discovered the rear drums were not round and had to be replaced. months later the vehicle fish tailed again and the tires had to be replaced. *jb *sc

The consumers son was driving the vehicle at 40 mph and without warning, a loud noise was heard coming from the left front tire. suddenly he lost the control of the vehicle, but regained control . the consumer was able to pull over. the consumer discovered the front coil spring on the driver's side had broken and punctured the tire and the brake line. dealer has been notified. *jb *nm

While parking the vehicle in the driveway consumer noticed that the speedometer was not working. *ak

My 2000 ford taurus was expericing a grinding noise upon braking during slow speed stops. had ford dealer check brake componants and they found that the abs sensing rings were cracked. when asked why theses ring were cracked i was told by the service manager at ray price ford in mt pocono pa. that this was do to" poor wormanship".

While driving at 15 mph passenger air bag deployed. dealership and manufacturer has been notified. *ak

Defective abs speed indicator ring. it is cracked,slides off the axle and contacts the lower control arm causing front end vibration and noise. there are no abs error messages or indicators. my concern is that in a panic stop the this will cause incorrect information to the abs braking system and cause poor braking. ford service says there are no service bulletins & want to charge me $200 to fix what i consider a manufacturing defect.*ak

Consumer took the vehicle to dealer because it stalled in the middle of the highway. the gas meter showed that there was gas in the tank. however, the tank was empty. engine light came on later. vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the manufacturer, who showed that the problem was repaired under a recall. *ak

Complaint regarding having to pay for something that has been recalled.*mr the vehicle brake light switch failed prior to recall notification. the consumer had an extended warranty therefore only had to pay a $50 deductible for the repair. the consumer call the manufacturer and requested reimbursement but was denied. *nm

Combination metal/rubber transmission cooling lines rotted out spraying hot transmisiion fluid through out the engine compartment and onto the hot engine. this failure on my 2000 ford taurus wagon with 77,000 miles was a complete surprise as my previous car was a 1992 ford sable wagon that i sold with 395,000 miles on it and all the major oriiginal components in good working order. i just realized what the difference was. the 1992 sable transmission cooling lines were all steel, not a combination of steel/rubber as in my 2000. the quality has been lowered to save money. fortunately, i was near my repair shop when the transmission started to die from the loss of fluid and the smoke started coming out from the fluid on the hot engine and exhaust. a little earlier and the car could have died on me in fast moving heavy rush hour traffic on on i-684. the rotten lines were subsequently replaced at a cost approaching $400 for parts/labor. it took 6-quarts of transmission fluid to replace what was blown out! *ak

Both front springs on vehicle needed to be replaced. *mr the consumer noticed that the front tire was flat due to a broken spring which had punctured the tire. this had been a problem per mechanic. the consumer requested reimbursement. *sc *jb

If you have any advice or information that might help to rectify the situation below, i would appreciate it if you would contact me. i started my 2000 ford taurus with 56,000 miles to go to work on july 29th, and as soon as i turned the ignition key, a loud explosion under the hood occurred. it was like a bomb going off, the motor became loud and started revving. the plastic manifold had exploded due to the pcm (power train control module) having the wrong flash (a software problem programmed at the factory). the pcm caused a backfire out the top of the motor. ford dealers were suppose to correct this in april/ may of 2000 . i purchased my car in july 2000 after they were all suppose to be fixed. the ford dealer has come down from $500 to $250 to fix my car, but refuses to to fix it free. we are now at a stalemate unless i agree to pay for the manufacturer's defect. as of today 8/4/04 the car is still not fixed. i also have digital pictures of the damage. *ak

While driving in reverse from the driveway to the street consumer heard a loud noise, on investigation by independent mechanic front coil spring on the driver's side broke and punctured the tire. also, the stabilizer bar broke. if the car had moved it would have been in a wreck, and possibly in roll over. *ak *ts

First our car engine light came on and started blinking. we had to have it towed in to an auto repair shop and have it checked out. while they were checking out the car, they found a problem with the fuel rail pressure range and performance and the fuel level sensor ckt fault. the car also showed that it needed a major servicing. two months after the car was serviced, i was heading home. on a busy hwy, when all of a sudden my car starts acting like it is out of gas. my gas hand said the car still had a 1/4 tank of gas. so i didn't know what was going on. well i managed to get to a gas station and found out that i was indeed out of gas. the gas hand didn't show that of neither did the gas light come on to tell me i was running low. after i filled up the car, my engine light came on again. so i called the auto repair shop i took the car to. i didn't know if it was something they did. come to find out when they ran the check on the car it was a recall they had found wrong with my car. i mentioned earlier what the problem was called it is in the third sentence. the repair man ran a check to see if it was a recall with my vehicle and found out that it was. in aug. 2000 ford motor co. sent out a service recall bulletin to all ford dealers, that there was a emissions recall 00e10 - certain 2000 model year taurus flex fuel vehicles- fuel delivery module replacement. i contacted ford about fixing this problem and they refused to do so. they told me that it was already done but i still have the problems and they can't give me the proof that it was fixed. so in my eyes until i see proof and until my car is fixed i don't believe them. i don't like having to drive my car around when at any moment i may run out of gas because i forgot to keep a check on my mileage. something i should not have to do in the first place since that is what gas hands are for. i also have two young children and i baby sit another whom i am constantly having to drive around with. please help me! *jb

While driving out of the garage front driver's side coil spring broke, damaging the strut and puncturing the front driver's side tire. the coil spring was logged between the tire and the wheel. this made it difficult to remove the punctured tire or tow vehicle. the vehicle had to be taken out of the garage with floor jacks because the left front tire wouldn't turn. once out of the garage they were able to slid the vehicle onto the tow truck. the front coil spring was replaced, but the cause of the failure wasn't provided by the dealership. *ak *sc

One morning car was started and an explosion came from engine compartment. the explosion resulted in destruction of the upper intake manifold and egr regulator. cause of explosion is unknown. *jb

While pulling away from my driveway the front left coil spring broke and severed the tire. car had to be towed to dealer. took one week to repair. if i were drivning at high speed when the spring broke i probably would have ended up crashing the car. given the number of problems that have occurred and are occurring with taurus coil springs, there should be some kind of recall. it costs anywhere from $400-$600 or more to have a coil spring and related parts replaced, plus the towing.*ak
