I bought my car brand new from the Dodge/Chrysler Dealership. I was driving when I heard a ticking coming from the engine, I used my cellphone to call my mechanic who stated that it was probably my timing chain but that if it’s just ticking it’s not imminent danger of breaking. I arrived to work and upon leaving work, I went to start the car and it would not start. It made a grinding sound, I saw smoke come from under the hood. I called a tow truck company and had the car towed to my mechanic. My mechanic stated that the engine was blown and would cost $6000.00 to replace it. I had the car towed home ( 2 towing fees at this point at $90.00 each). I called a mechanic that specializes in intrepid/concorde repairs and he advised that I should tow the car to him as it might not be completely blown. Another towing fee ($90.00) and another mechanics opinion, yes the engine was completely blown and this mechanic stated the reason for failure was oil SLUDGE. I asked what I could have done to prevent that from happening and he stated that there was nothing I could do, it’s a known defect in that particular engine and that if I were to have it repaired, it was his advice to not put a 2.7L engine back in, but rather a 3.2 or 3.5L engine in as they did not have the defect of the 2.7L. I now have a paper weight in my driveway as I do not have the funds to repair the vehicle. I had to buy another car and now have a car payment to a car that I don’t even really like much. I would like to know why I was sold a vehicle with a known engine defect and why Chrysler won’t do anything about it.

I was driving a mile to the bank, when the oil light went on. I drove to store and bought 2 qt. of oil. I waited for 1/2 an hour and put in one qt. checked the level on the dip stick and it read full. The light stayed on and the engine was making a ticking noise. Usually indicating low oil.
My brother checked the oil and said that it sounded like a pressure problem. I didn’t drive it for another 7 months. When I moved I drove it around the corner and parked in driveway and let it idle so the battery wouldn’t die so I could park. Oil light stayed on and made loud ticking noise. So there it has sat for the past year. I haven’t driven it in two years.

With under 55,000 miles the timing chain failed and caused extensive engine damage. Chrysler has agreed to supply the necessary parts, I would be responsible for the labor. Originally estimated to be $600. I then recieve notice that other work has to be preformed and the engine has to be torn down again and the total cost in now near $1,500. Upon further investigation it appears this is a very common problem and Chrysler has not acknowledged the full extent of the issue involved.

While driving to the dealership for oil change and recall to be fixed. The engine stalled and locked up with no previous problems at all. Dealer informed us engine had to be replaced. We have had no previous problems or indications that anything was wrong. Oil changed every 3000 miles new belts we follow as instructed in manual. It seems there are problems with these 2.7L engines. We are now trying to find out why these problems are going unanswered with these LH model cars. With filing the complaint with Chrysler we received no help. We\’re told after 36,000 miles they are no longer liable for any problems with this engine. The engine did have oil sludge build up even though we changed our oil every 3000 miles. We have all documentation and pictures from the dealership of the engine .The car had 71000 miles at the time the engine locked up with no prior problems. We even got in touch with the regional rep for Chrysler before she said could decide if any help was going to be given we had to agree to pay 186.00 to have them drop the oil pan to check for build up. After seeing that was the problem we were told it was poor maintenance even with all records. We decided we could not pay Chrysler either 6249.57 for a remanufactured jasper engine or 5999.02 for them to rebuild & that they wouldn\’t receive another dime from us. So we bought a used engine with 17000 miles & had it installed .We spent 2200 for the engine and 1100 to have it installed. Hopefully we can pay a little extra a month to pay off the 15000 still owed on the car. If any of these docs can help let me know we would be glad to supply any information.

While driving on Feb 7, 2008 my husband heard the car make horrific knocking noises in the engine, he took the car to the garage and they informed him that we needed a new engine. We have a 2.7l DOHC V6 engine. I believe the term used was “Catastrophic Engine Failure”

While driving approx. 35 mph, the engine seized, and would not restart. Was towed to the dealership were timing chain and all guides, hydraulic tensioner and water pump replaced, and sludge cleaned. After approx. 22 miles the engine grinding and returned to the dealership, where the oilpan, oilpump,rod barrings replaced.

When I took the car in to the shop, they showed me Chrysler 2.7L Engine Arbitration Information sheet, showing me what to do. I do not think we are the first to have trouble with the Chrysler engine. They suggested I send this info off to you to get started, and that we may even get some compensation. The estimate was for $4,855.00 plus a rebuildable core, which may add more to the cost of the repair.According to the sheet I have, after filing a complaint I need to contact the Impartial Services Group at 1-866-332-3746 to see what they will offer us. They were hired by Diamler/Chrysler for the mediation of this problem.

We have to keep plates on the car due to the town ordinance. This means we have to maintain insurance on the car until we can turn in the plates. While driving car engine started making a loud banging noise, no engine warning lights (oil, etc) came on. The car up to this point had been running smoothly with no problems. Car could not be driven, called for tow truck to take to service station. Mechanic diagnosed loud noise in engine by removing valve cover and inspecting rockers and upper end. Determined noise to be in lower end. Vehicle was determined to need engine replaced or rebuilt. Total estimate for engine replacement would be $5,961.60. After calling many auto shops for new engine they all advised us not to replace/rebuild this engine as this engine is known to fail. The longest warranty any shop would give us for replacement/rebuild is 30 days. We owe $2,862.52 on this car and cannot at this time afford to pay 6,000.00 to repair/replace an engine that no one is willing to stand by. We hoped this car to last us several more years as we are financially in no position to purchase another car. We have taken very good care of this car as we needed it to last us a very long time. Thought the build and make of the car would do that for us. We had regular oil changes as recommended by the manufacturer, had the tires rotated, etc. We just had new brakes at a cost of $500 plus and also four new tires totaling over $400. We have had many problems with the driver side window of this car have had it fixed a couple of times but now estimated cost to fix was $300 plus. We can only put the window down about three inches. But right now that is the least of our problems. Just thought I would mention it as it has been a continual problem for us. Try going through toll boths, bank drive thru etc. We feel we did all the right things in taking care of our car. We think that Chrysler should have sent a recall out knowing that this engine failure existed. We now have a car sitting in our driveway that does not run. We have to keep plates on it due to the town ordinance which means we have to pay insurance on a it until we can get rid of it. As we look for someone to purchase the car as is our best offer has been $300.00. Chrysler should have sent recall notices out to all 2000 owners as to this problem to stand by their product. We feel we did all the right things hopefully Chrysler will feel the need to take care of the problems with this car

WE HAD 2 BREAKDOWNS11/2003 AND 1/2005Our 2000 Chrysler Concorde was only 3 years old when it the engine just died. We never drove it in the city. It was all highway mileage, due to my 35 mile daily, commute to work.One day, the car started to sputter, then just died on the side of the road. We were told by one mechanic with Chrysler that the engine was filled with sludge and that is why it died. He said we should have given it more frequent oil changes. I told him that my husband also took care of oil changes; but he didn’t want to hear it.I did some research only to find that another gentleman said that the engine we had was no good.A local auto repair shop found a used engine for us (1,000 miles on it); but, only gave us 6 months – 1 year warranty on it.Today, 1/6/05, the car broke down again on the PA turnpike.I had 4 women in the car and it was terrifying. I am unsure of what the diagnosis will be on 1/7/05.

Water pump blew apart, chain flew off, hole in valve cover,this is a no tolerance engine – damage to valves/heads, replaced engine with Jasper 3 yr/100K mile warranty.

Vehicle started making a knocking noise while driving it.The oil light was on constantly. When I took it to get it checked the engine was going out. When I tried to pick up the car to take it home because I couldn\’t afford the high price to get the car fixed, the engine then locked up and the car had to be towed.

Used car purchased in June 2005 with 67,900 kms on odometer. Within one year and with a total mileage of 8,653 kms since purchase, complete engine failure requiring total engine replacement. Dealer/Manufacturer blames engine sludge build-up. Vehicle was maintained with oil changes twice. No compensation from either dealer or Chrysler who both deny responsibility. TOTAL REPAIR COST: $5512.95 Canadian dollars for used replacement engine.

Transmission went out last yr.Engine went out almost exactly a year later. Mechanic states due oil starvation.

Total engine failure at 60,412. Dealer would not honor extended warranty we were sold. We were told that we were improperly driving our car. That we should have let it warm up for at least ten minutes if we were driving less than 2 or 3 miles – like going to the grocery store.We believe that in addition to the poor engine design the warranty coolant replacement procedure which did not require the purging of the system has much to do with these premature engine failures. Chrysler released a TSB to all their dealers instructing them to be sure and purge the coolant system after replacement especially if the customer had complained of ‘loss of cabin heat’.In addition to the very poorly designed engine the improper and inadequate warranty maintenance procedures have cost us complete use of our car since Dec 22, 2002. We have had to make payments of $464.00 every month since and the sits and ‘rots’ because we cannot afford to fix it. Our credit has been affected in that three times we have been overdue on the payment. Once 31 days, twice 32 days on an otherwise perfect payment record. They call us everyday once we are 10 days late. Everyday, every month. The car has not been moved and none of the fluids have been stirred so even if we did get the car fixed it will not be of much value. Six hundred dollars of tires were installed one month before the car died. We are out $12,000 and were just informed that we cannot write off any expenses against this car even though it was our business car. They said if you can’t drive it how can you use it for business. They have a point, so we are actually out the $12,000 plus almost $2,700 in additional income taxes.

Today I was told my engine spun a bearing on the crankshaft. Vehicle is still operable. I simply took the car in to the shop, as I began to hear a ticking noise. Nothing can be done to fix the problem, other than replace with a rebuilt engine, or a new engine. The range is from $3,500 (used) to $6,500 (new)

Timing chain failed which caused the pistons to malfunction thus destroying the engine.

Timing chain broke causing valve & piston damage. Vehicle was started, not on highway moving. Immediately shut off. and was towed to Dealer. Engine is unrepairable. New engine costs $6,250. Car is in mint condition with regular oil changes.

timing chain broke and destroyed gaskets, cylinder heads, and all 12 intake valves. Chrysler was giving me hard time covering it due to mileage and stating I may have not changed the oil on time, even though I purchased an extended warranty. Meanwhile it has been taking over 3 weeks for them to repair, and when it was supposedly fixed, it broke down again not even 24 hours after I picked my car up.

This morning (3/24/05), the check engine light came on and I parked the car 15 minutes later. Drove the car during lunch and out of nowhere the car started hesitating, stopping, jumping, and knocking. We immediately took the car to a mechanic, he looked at it and immediately told us that the engine was gone, just like that. The car showed no prior warnings, nor were we having any problems up until now. I purchased this car two years ago and still owe $7,000 and three years of payments. I have no means of coming up with the $5500 the mechanic stated it would cost to repair the car. He also said that repairing the car with a like engine would be a waste of money, because it will ultimately do the same thing. I feel Chrysler should take responsibility to all who loved these vehicles enough to make the major purchase. We now have no way to get to work, nor get our son back and forth to school, since his school does not provide transportation. I am interested in joining any class action lawsuit filed against the company.

This engine has been junk since it was made. In September we had to replace the timing chain tensioner, and then in May of 06 the engine began knocking again. The dealer would not even pull the oil pan to see for certain what was wrong, they just quoted me almost $7000.00 for a new engine. Doesn’t make much sense to put $7,000 into a $5,000 car.

This car was seen by two different dealerships regarding a clicking sound coming from the engine compartment. The last visit before the engine failed included an oil change. The engine failed as I parked in my driveway less than a month after that visit to the dealer. The tech who broke down the engine write, in part, “the rod bearings worn and rod tap noise the engine showed no signs of abuse or alteration the engine had no sludge or varnish buildup…” I replaced the engine with great cost to me. I am requesting that Chrysler compensate me. Failing that, I will pursue more aggresive measures.

This car was bought used and I checked all of the fluids before I bought it. It sounded great, very quiet, no clicking or tapping…NOTHING. This was in Nov. of 2006. At the time of purchase the car only had 71,643 miles. I changed the oil the day after I bought it, not knowing the last time it was changed. I also changed the oil about 2700 miles ago. The the other day It was making a clicking noise near belt area, like if one of the belt pullies were loose and rattling. I tried to get home, but to no avail. The car died coming off a highway, entering a smaller highway, in a construction zone, blocking traffic! I had a family friend, who is a Crystler mechanic, look at the car and this person said that this is a very common problem. I feel that if it is this common then someone should take responsibility for this. These problems are probably not getting reported because people don’t know how to and just pay for the repairs or just junk the car. I could have been killed the day my car engine died. I just go out of my car and call AAA. My car was almost hit by every car coming through this offramp.

There were no repair attempts made as manufacturer was not willing to acknowledge problem or compensate in any way. Due to Oil sludge problem engine was shot, done, finished. I owed close to $3,000. on vehicle and had heard of a Chryler vehicle w/oil sludge problems but model was not identified at that time. I was not willing to pay Chrysler any amount of money to put another of these engines in my vehicle when the original engine didn\’t hold up. I felt like my back was against the wall, having absolutely no value on my vehicle. Westgate Chrysler did work with me to purchase a 2005 T&C MiniVan. I received $500. for a trade-in, owed $3,000. on the vehicle and started fresh with 5 more years of payments. I had no vehicle, no money for a down payment. If the vehicle had held up as one would expect, I would have had blue book value to use for a decent trade-in. I lost big time. Needless to say, I will not in the future purchase another Chrysler product. If they can\’t stand by their damaged product, I will look for better value in a vehicle next time, when I\’m not pinned against the wall, such as a Toyota or a Honda. There ought to be a law against this type of Corporate robbery.

The whole enginefailed when I was driving to work. It had sludge in it. I replaced the engine once before approximatly a year ago in July 2006. When this happened in July 2006 I had my brother inlaw and father inlaw clean it out real good and we changed all fluids in it and it ran for about a month if that and then completly failed on me. Luckly I made it home as I was very close to my house without an accident happening or being killed. My brother in law came and checked it again and said the engine was toast. So now I owe $8,000 on my 2000 Chrysler Concord and it sets on my lawn as a lawn ornament since I have not the money to fix the engine again. Me and my brother inlaw changed the oil in it frequently and so I know it wasn\’t a maintnance problem. What do I do with this car now? Also the window on the drivers side keeps coming off track and the metal peice that holds the window keeps breaking. I have had that problem for who knows how long!

the timing gears and guides are going out, I also had a constant problem with the door ajar light and in turn is making my bat. run dead. I have tried many times to shut and reshut the doors to get this to go out but has failed to do so. I received a letter from the Jasper engines and transmissions outlining the problems that are wrong with my vehicle and Concordes with the 2.7L V6 engine. I am having a problem with getting my oil light to go off. I am making this complaint to insure that I can get these problems fixed as soon as I can because that is the only car I have

The repair cost is an extimate as we are yet to find a suitable engine. It could be substantially higher. Have owned the car approximately 10 months prior to failure. Failure occured approximately 3000 miles after last oil change. Requires total engine replacement. Mechanic recommends replacing it with 3.2L rather than the 2.7 because of known defects in that engine, but admits he knows of know one who has ever performed the conversion. Our repair options are both risky and expensive. Like many other we are now reading about, we are now faced with our regular car and insurance payments, engine replacement costs, and rental car costs in the mean time so we can get to work to pay for the piece of junk. The GM at the local 5-Star Chrysler dealership where we bought the car WHO IS A FRIEND ON MINE insinuates that we probably didn’t properly maintain the car in the last ten months since we bought it from his dealership. We are outraged!

The problem started on a mid March evening where I heard a clicking in the enguine. Being that it was after five p.m. and It just started I told myself I would get it loked at first thing in the morning. Well not more than fifteen miles later the car stopped and shut itself off. I then had the car towed by triple a to a reputable car shop in Columbus Ohio. After about an half hour or so of examination I met with the Mechanic. He had grave news. He said that a new enguine was needed because there were small flakes of metal blocking sensors and deteriorating itself from the inside and could not be fixed, but had to be replaced ( the 3.5 litre. He went on to note that this was synonymous with this enguine ( the 2.7 litre )and in most cases it happends around 60,000.( in other word that it was a manufactures defect)The mechanic also mentioned that a sludge build up IS not to the neglegence of most drivers but as a by product of a chemical reaction with a chemical in the enguine when oil is added. a A easy excuse for chrysler to use as a scapegoat. (DON’T YOU HAVE TO HAVE OIL IN A CAR?!) My car was at 130,000 and I have not had as much as the enguine light come on yet before this incedent happened. I established preventive mantainance checks daily. The total repair cost is around $4,800. This is my first repair attempt and i will not press on with getting it repaired until I hear something further. What is the next step? The power options failures are the least of my concerns at this point. The power locks make a horrendous noise when the button is pressed, and they only work less than half the time. The rear passenger power window does not work at all.The majore problem is the engine. Yesterday it went from a completely silent car to sounding like a diesel engine. There’s a ticking and a bit of a knocking coming from the engine.I took it to several mechanics and each one cringed when they heard it was the 2.7L. They knew instantly, and all confirmed, that it was a problem with oil getting to the engine. It’s a problem with the engine itself (a manufacturer defect) and the engine needs to be replaced.Chrysler is well aware of this problem, yet has not done a recall or advised consumers of this.

The oil light would come on very dim when the car was stopped at intersections. When oil was checked it was always very clean. We changed oil regularly between 2000 and 3000 miles. After a week or two of this the valves started rattling very loudly and there was a knocking sound from the inside of the engin. G&M Service Center in lorton Virginia worked on the valves and had to replace the timing belt tension arm and pully and flush the engine as much as possible. The mechanic showed me the parts that came out of the engine so I would know the engine was sludged up so badly that it would not be wise to use the car as our primary means of transportation. I had to get another car and I know only use the concord as a backup vehicle. I was told I would have to change the oil at least every 1200 to 1500 miles or the engine will have more problems.

The motor just stopped running while my wife was coming home from work. It was towed, and after a Chrysler dealership opened up the motor. Upon inspection; it was found to be full of sludge, the lifters clog, the valve seals blown out, timing assemble wore a groove in the block, and pistons seized. The above repair cost, $6600.00, is what the dealership wanted for a long block; “the best solution”… not going to happen. I’m having it towed to a local shop who said he could do better in price, so that’s what I’ll try.

THE MOTOR IN MY 2000 CHRYSLER CONCORDE JUST WENT OUT ONE DAY. NO NOTICE. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I TOOK IT TO SAID THIS MOTOR (2.7L) IS KNOWN TO DO THIS.

The Engine was not getting Oil due to Mfr. Defect in the Engine, and it just stopped working.

The engine was making a weird noise and a ticking sound. I drove it to a dealer and he said it was the timing chains and head gaskets and not even sure until they took it apart. I took it home and called Chrysler, who told me that it wasn’t serviced properly, and that there were no problems with the engine. Called the dealer I bought it from, who told me he would help me if I brought it back to them and who also told me there was no warranty. It would not start. I had to have it towed. It has been there since the middle of August. I missed two days of work and had to borrow a car from a friend. They called to say that there was just too much wrong with it and that the engine should just be replaced. I do not have the money to replace an engine. I am a single mother trying to get two kids thru college and I bought a Chrysler because it was suppose to be a good car. A good car does not need a new engine after 55,000 miles. Thank you. the engine started making noise suddenly but there were no warning lights on the dash. i parked the car and tied to start it the next day, it would not. the timing chain broke and i was told that the motor was no good. i was also told that i have to change these things before they break. i was told that when the timing chain breaks it also bends the valves and messes up the block. i can not afford to replace the engine when i still owe around five thousand on the car.i have a lot of knowledge about engines and i have never seen what i saw when i removed the valve covers. i have diligently changed my oil with top grade oil.

the engine quit on the interstate on our way home from the mall in april, they diagnosed it to be the fuel pump in may when the engine quit on my husband he had it towed to a dealer and they diagnosed the sludge problem then. They said it would cost approximately 8,000.00 to fix.

The engine of my 2000 chrysler Concorde failed while I was driving the car on October 13, 2004. I have slightly over 60,000 miles on the car and it is 4 1/2 years old. I had the car towed to my dealership. Upon inspection, they stated that they “found engine sluged up causing minimal amount of oil preassure (Rod bearings and timeing chain bad)” They stated the engine needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $7000 plus tax. The service manager said that this engine is a continual problem and that they hate to see these cars come in for repair. I had the automobile towed to a private repair shop on October 19, 2004 for a second opinion. The repair shop came back with the same issue and a repair estimte of $5400. The repair shop also stated that they have done several of these engine replacement to the Chrysler 2.7L engine. They informed me that the engine has a very poor design that leads to sludge pulling into the engine even with regular and timely oil changes. It is a problem of the engineering design of the engine. I have performed the oil changes on the behicle based on the recommended miles in the owners manual. I still owe about $4800 on a vehicle that does not run due to a manufacturing defect. Chrysler refuses to extend their warranty. I am a single working mother with two children. I now have a automobile sitting in my driveway that I can not drive and cannot afford to fix. I am paying on a vehicle every month that I can not use. It is worth literally nothing to trade in (even if it were in working order) If I were able to afford to repair it, I would be left with the worry that it would not be reliable or safe to use to transport my children.Any help your agency can extend in getting Chrysler to step up to the plate, would be greatly appreciated. I was always a Chrysler supporter. Now, seeing how they refuse to stand behind their products, I will not only NEVER purchase another Chrysler or Jeep product, but I will be telling EVERYONE I know about the financial and emotional stress Chrysler has caused me. I can not believe a corporation like Chrysler refuses to take care of their customer base for a problem that is clearly of their own making.

The engine is knocking in spite of having the oil changed regularly.

The engine has gone out on this vehicle at 60,000 miles. How ironic is that not just one of these cars have gone out right at 60,000 miles but hundreds. The irony is, they’re not going out at 70,000 or 50,000 or 40,000, etc., but every one of these cars are going out right at 60,000 miles. I was just over my warranty a 100 miles when the engine failed. I purchased this vehicle 8/03 and it was stolen 10/30/03, 2 months after I purchased it. The car had been driven about 4,000 miles when I got the car back. Lou Fusz Automotive in St. Louis, Mo., the dealer for which I bought the car put it back together. My insurance company at the time was American Family. I didn’t want the car any more but the insurance company would not replace it. This car is also a target for theives. There had been another attempt to steal this car not long after I got the car back. I am a single mother with 2 young children and very serious health problems. I see 4 different doctors, I’ve been catching buses and metrolink trains, walking in 100 degree heat. I just need someone to help me and my family. PLEASE.I can be reached at [email protected]

The engine failed because of the design flaw in the oil ports. My repair man, in business since the 1930’s through generations, told me it was the most expensive engine repair on a passenger vehicle he has ever performed in over 30 years as principle owner. He purchased my rebuilt engine from Jasper engines out of Indiana. Jasper corrects the design flaw of the ports and “veins” being too small by actually drilling out the block to the proper size and installing a larger oil pump to increase the flow to an acceptable level. My engine now has a 75000 mile warranty, more than twice the original factory warranty. As an engineer I understand that many consumer products today are “designed to fail” after a specified period of time, much like light bulbs today that tend to fail earlier and earlier. The problem with Chryslers’ design is that they failed to take in to account the exponential relationship between the flow of the oil and the area of the port, a basic and well known relationship used for centuries (or maybe they knew it all too well). Any decrease in area caused by minor sludge or debris ultimately results in catastrophic failure, as the normal Factor of Safety usually designed in to something like this is easily breached. It should be noted that my engine was not beyond repair, as my mechanic was able to unfreeze the engine and it started and ran easily, although with a loud knock. The problem was that EVEN THOUGH MY ENGINE WAS REPAIRABLE, THE MECHANIC WOULD NOT REPAIR IT KNOWING THAT THE DESIGN FLAW WOULD JUST CREATE THE SAME EXACT SITUATION AGAIN AT A LATER DATE. The ONLY acceptable solution to this problem was an engine where the design flaw was remidied, thus resulting in a very expensive repair. I would surmise that many of the owners experiencing multiple failures has resulted from engines repaired without resizing the ports or installing the higher flow pump, thus resulting in the same predictable failure. As far as the power locks are concerned, my drivers side lock has stripped a gear (even though I have not inspected it, the grinding of the gears is readily heard). At first I thought it might just be isolated, but now my rear lock on the same side has begun to do the same thing, and the safety of having the doors lock automatically at speed is now in question for my children if this lock should fail completely. The radio problem started after installation of the new engine, so may be related to that.

The engine developed a knock and stopped running literally instantaneously, It will not restart. I am told that the entire engine must be replaced.

The engine blew up and had to be replaced. The engine started making a loud knocking sound. It was turned off and the car was towed to the Ehman’s Garage for inspection. He removed the air plenum and right valve coverand and found major damage to the engine. It’s was blown and had to be replaced.

The Chrysler Dealer fixed a heating problem on one occasion and air conditioning another time. Now my husband was driving the car about 5 to 6 miles per hour making a right turn, the car suddenly stopped. There was no warning. We have changed the oil on all our cars every 2000 miles, trying to extend the life of our cars. The oil was recently changed on this car two weeks ago. Now we are told there is sludge in the engine and this is common in the Chrysler Concord. We have another 2004 Concord LXI that I have had nothing but problems with, always engine problems, stalling etc. I sued through the Lemon Laws and have recently received notice that Chrysler is willing to buy back the 2004. We have had no indication of a problem with the 2000. I am very interested in a Class Action suit. I am also interested in going to the media to blow this problem with Daimler Chrysler wide open. They have a responsibility to help the consumer not just take our American dollars and leave us to pay big bills. They know there is a problem that is why they were willing to buy back my 2004, this car has a history of having a problem from the first week I took owenership. The cars that work better and take more time to develop a problem the company has the gaul to claim the consumer did not take care of the car. My cars were very well taken car of, how many people change the oil every 2,000 miles to extend the life of the car, well we did, and I can say we wasted time and money, because it did not help us. The care was used for commuting from Winslow Township to Trenton and the oil was changed regularly. There was a service bulletin that recomended using 5w – 30w oil this information was never shared with the customer.The engine failed after only four years. The company knew that the ports were too small so regardlessl of the miles the responsibility falls on the manufacturer. On Tuesday, August 30th, I picked up my Concorde with a rebuilt engine. It cost me $6498. This was the second attempt to fix it. The first time cost $3400.

The car will not shift out of first gear. The first time the car was taken in, it had a the speed sensor replaced, the second time the car was taken in the crank sensor was replaced. I have yet to take the car in for the third time yet.

The car was towed in February to a repair facility. The repair facility called after looking at the vehicle stating that the engine was locked up and had to be replaced.

The auto repair shop said that I needed a new engine.

The A/C in my 2000 Chrysler Concorde went out around 42k miles, about one month and a thousand miles after I purchased it. I had it repaired, but it went out again three days later. I had it repaired a second time, but it again went out three days later. I haven’t had it repaired again.The car broke down at 46,600 miles due to a failed camshaft sensor. This was repaired.The engine just failed again last week at 47,300 miles due to oil sludge. My extended warranty won’t cover the engine replacement because of the cause of failure. The estimate for repair is $6,200, which is higher than the blue book value of the car. I now have a valueless car and a $8,000 loan to pay. I just bought this car four months ago with 41k miles on it.

Started car up and drove it 8 blocks and a loud ticking sound started. Came home and parked car in driveway. Next day tried to start car and it would not start but backfired real loud. We had to have car towed to Chrysler dealership and they checked it out and said that the timing chain broke and when it did it ruined the pistons and valves and the engine had to be replaced or rebuilt. We had a new engine put in. Our waranty had just run out a couple of months before this happened. Chrysler would not stand behind the engine. We had to pay for the whole thing.

Same problem as every other Concorde and Intrepid. Timing chain broke and bent the valves due to oil sludge build up. Repair costs are for replacing engine with remanufactured engine not new. Engine dealers know what these motors are worth because they are all having the same problem. I found the name of an arbitrator hired by DaimlerChrysler to deal with it on a case by case basis.

Our 2000 Concorde starting running poorly in October 2005 and the oil light would not go off. My husband took it into Quality Lincoln Mercury in Millville, NJ, where we bought the car used on Jan. 25, 2002, with a 6 year, 75000 mile extended warranty. They insisted nothing was wrong with the engine and that it was just a faulty fuse light that was making the oil light stay on. They assured us the car was safe to drive. On Dec. 8, during rush hour on Rt. 130, the car died. Thank God my husband was able to get to the side of the road. Quality then informed us we were one week out of the warranty (not on the paperwork we have, but on the doctored paperwork they have). We towed the car to two different auto repair shops who both confirmed the same thing: the 2.7 liter engines fail and are pieces of junk. Both mechanics knew what the problem was going to be as soon as I said a 2000 Chrysler Concorde. They said I was lucky to get 80,000 miles. Most of these engines die with half that mileage on them. I don’t feel lucky. I still owe $8,000 on a car I can’t drive that I can’t afford to fix. This is causing an extreme financial burden on us. I called Chrysler and they informed me they were not aware of any problems with this motor and that there are no recalls. They said they would make a note in their files that I had a problem and that if enough people were to call they would eventually have a recall and that I could be retroactively reimbursed if they ever did have a recall. They then told me I would have to take the problem up with Ford since the extended warranty was through Ford. Ford, of course, told me to take it up with Chrysler since it was a defect known to their engines. Ford also admitted to changing the dates on my service contract to read that it expired after 34 months, not 72 months, because we bought the car used and the extended service contracts are based on the original purchase dates, not our sales date. The warranty was presented to us as being good for 6 years or when the car reached 84,229 miles (the 75,000 miles, plus the 9229 miles that were on the car the day we purchased it). They changed the document without notifying us. This has been a nightmare from the get-go!

One year ago air conditioning system failed. Chrysler would do nothing, as over 3 yr and mileage warranty. I had repaired on my own. Now while driving, total engine failue, and engine needs to be replaced. Of course, Chrysler will do nothing. I have researched many complaints from others on web with this so called restriction of oil flow, causing engine to blow.

On Thanksgiving the engine in my 2000 Chrysler Concorde (2.7L) began a ticking noise. The next day, on the way back home with my wife and 2-yr old son from our Thanksgiving family dinner, suddenly, without warning, my Concorde loss power and began violently knocking while on the freeway during holiday rush hour. The sound was so jarring it awakened my sleeping son. I made my way to the first lane and attempted to take the next off ramp when my Concorde lost all power. I coasted to the emergency lane and walked to the nearest call box to order a tow truck. Needless to say, this was a horrible ending to our Thanksgiving. We spent hours waiting for a tow, and spent more hours getting a cab and renting a car. My family and I stayed in a hotel as my 2000 Concorde was towed 70mi home. $700 dollars later, we made it home. After getting it to a mechanic, I was told my engine rod needs replacing at the bottom of the 2.7L engine. The mechanic said the parts are not sold separately, so the engine will have to be replaced. Total engine work $3,900. It saddens me to hear this is an ongoing problem with Chrysler\’s 2.7L engines, especially considering I took great care in regularly servicing my Concorde. I hope Chrysler recognizes their 2.7L engines have a problem and extends its warranty to cover the engine\’s defects.

On May 2,2007, I purchased a used 2000 Chrysler Concorde from Wilsons Auction Sales in Felton, Delaware. Prior to the purchase of the vehicle, I had a mechanic check over the car and he felt that car was fine. Less than a week later, I noticed an usual ticking sound coming from the engine of the car. Again, I had the vehicle checked by a mechanic at Advance Auto. I was informed that the problem was probably something minor. A week or two later en route to doing an errand, the car made a loud noise and cut off leaving me stranded along the side of the highway. After having the car towed to an automotive repair shop, I was informed that I needed a whole new motor. The mechanic felt that the problems with the motor stemmed from a default from the factory. Apparently, other customers with the same make and model of car had been experiencing the same problem.

On June 17, 2004, my Concorde clanged and wouldn\’t start. We took another car on vacation and a week later when we returned, our mechanic said it was serious and take it in to the dealer. Four weeks later, we were told that the timing belt brought because of sludge and the whole engine was damaged. Total cost was 5800.00. We had one year left on the payments – 4819.81. We initially had it towed to Parkway Chrysler and they told us probable engine failure, but because there were rumors that they might have their license pulled, we paid them 37.50 and a tow company 90.00 to have it towed to another dealer. We allowed them to pull the engine. A Chrysler rep came in and looked at it and said that there was considerable sludge build up and that we needed a new engine and that the extended warranty ( which cost us 1495.00 at purchase) wouldn\’t cover it. That dealer quoted us 5800.00 to put in a new engine. We provided maintenance receipts. My driving does fit a Schedule A (every 7500 miles) driver so in 2000, we followed Schedule A but changed it on average of 5500 miles because we thought 7500 was too much. We paid that dealer 230.29 and traded a very dead car in on a Chevrolet Impala. On July 3,2003 I took my car in for service and told them it was leaking. The car leaks at all doors and in the trunk. Also the trim around the headlights is coming out. I was told that there would be a charge of $134.49 for the headlight trim repair and $201.17 for the new door gaskets. The trunk I was not given an estimate on because they said the water doctor would need to repair that. I told them that I felt that the car was defective and I should not have to pay for any repairs. I was called back a week later and was told that the manufacturer would pay 1/3 of the cost of the repair, the service dept. would pay 1/3 of the cost and I would be required to pay the remaining 1/3. I am not happy with this arrangment as I know this a defect in the car.

On February 14, 2005, the engine of my 2000 Chrysler Concorde began making a noise. The oil light came on and we drove it to the dealership where it was purchased new in December 2000. Following a diagnostic test, it was determined by the technician that the oil intake screen had clogged and the engine was starved of oil. It seemed logical to use the money not to repair a vehicle with 98,000 miles but to transition into a new vehicle which would afford , hopefully, no near future repair costs. However, for the new vehicle, I did have to make a down payment of $6,000, all of which had to come from a loan from my company retirement account.Therefore, not only am I out the $6,000 plus interest, I have lost the return potential of the $6,000 in the stock market. Essentially I am out the money I would have been out had I replaced the motor.After researching the problem, it was determined that this appears to be a common occurence with this motor.

Oil sludge build-up & engine failure…required total engine replacement. Dealership repair service tried to blame it on improper oil changes; however, this should not have been the case as all oil changes after I purchased the vehicle from a chrysler dealership (it was a used program car with 30,000 miles on it)were done on a 3,000-3,500 mile cycle with high quality synthetic oil, which is not prone to burning or sludging under normal engine usage. Engine replacement was accomplished by an independent repair shop with a re-built engine which had been remachined for improved oil flow. The replacement engine has not shown any signs of oil sludging, or sludge build-up.

Oil light on. Dealer said it is a sludge problem with this engine and the motor needs to be replaced. The oil was changed at 5000 miles well within the schedule. No help from Chrysler

Oil light continously blinks after driving short period of time and stopping. After reading the other complaints, looks like I am going to need new engine. Hopefully Chrylser will decide that fixing these problems will be cheaper than the lawsuit that looks like could be pending against. I will NEVER buy another Chrysler product. The quality of the product is not worth the amount paid, and they do not care about their consumers.

My sisters 2.7L engine failed due to oil sludging. The primary timing chain tensioner collapsed,the engine jumped time and all intake valves contacted pistons. I have been a Mechanic for over 20 Years and hold certifications. I have worked for a Chrysler dealership in the past and currently work as a Experimental Tech for Ford Motor Company. My Oil pressure light flickers infrequently at low RPM. When I called my dealer to schedule a service visit I was informed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. I explained that I had purchased an extended warranty only to find out that I was mislead. It was my understanding that I had purchased an additional 3 years/100,000 miles only to find out that the extended is included in the basic warranty, so much coverage expired in Setember last year. I feel cheated. I know what I was told at the time when I was sold the extended coverage-unfortunately the salesperson is no longer at this dealer. I have been very loyal to Chrysler, this being my second vehicle, which until yesterday, I was very pleased with. I called the warranty number for Chrysler and they tell me it is the dealer who will amke the final decision regarding this matter. I am disgusted with the lack of support, and would like to take further action both against the dealer and the service contract department-can you please advise.

My engine stalled, I had it towed and the mechanic couldn’t find a major problem with it. He replaced a few minor things totalling under $500. The very next day I got the car back, the engine locked up again and I found out I had a “sludge problem” I need a whole new engine, for a total of $5000. There was no notice, nothing wrong with the car that a mechanic could find.

My 2000 Chrysler Concorde was purchased new and this vehicle has been properly maintained. In May 2005, as I was driving on a street in my neighborhood at approximately 25 mph, the vehicle began to sputter and then shut it off. I was able to restart it and make it to my driveway. I turned the car off and tried to start it again. It would not start. I had no warning of any impending problem and no lights came on before it stopped running. I called my mechanic and had it towed to the repair shop. He confirmed that the engine had seized up. I have had the oil changed in this vehicle regularly per manufacturer specifications. My mechanic and I believe this problem is due to a defect in the engine. In fact, it was my mechanic who refered me to this website. It cost me approximately $6000.00 for a remanufactured engine and labor. Considering all of the problems that I have read about concerning Chrysler products and the lack of customer service or satisfaction regarding these, I don’t think I will ever purchase another Chrysler vehicle.

My 00 Chrysler Concorde has had minor defects since I purchased it. I am in the military and move frequentyly and seem to have consistent problems from my electrical system. My wife and I had noticed that our lights would flicker on and off while driving at night. It took the dealership about six months and two visits to remedy the problem. The initial response was that it was not covered by warranty but was soon resolved once I pulled out maintenance services orders from the several dealerships that we visited. In Feb 06, my air conditioner stop working. I took it to the dealer and they stated that i needed to have my AC belts and pully replaced and of course my warranty had lapsed. I shelled out the 561.00 to cover the costs. Less than two days later, I experienced the same problem and took the car into the dealership (Apr 06). The Chrysler portion of the dealership moved to a different location and did not have copies of my records. It took approximately two months for them to fix it and it they failed to diagnose that my AC compressor had gone bad. They initially quoted me 1400 and I later spoke with management and they waived the labor costs, but my expenses were 656.00. In late July 06, my air conditioner is still blowing hot air and the dealership is saying that I need yet another repair. I am fed up and will sell the car at the earliest opportunity.

Motor failed due to in adequate oil circulation due to an engineered bend in the oil service line to the top end of the motor. FURTHER that the upper end deficinecy does NOT register with the “Check Oil” light. You can have a full oil tank and the problems continues until the motor fails.PS I had to put a SECOND MOTOR IN THis car at 130,000miles. Aparently it fails approx every 60k to 70k miles. Engine 2nd faliure was Jan of 2006.

July 2003 the output speed sensor was replaced. Engine light came on and it would not change into high gears, could only do 20 to 25 mph.January 2004 the input speed sensor was replaced. Engine came came on and it would not change into high gears, could only do 20 to 25 mph. Transmission would not change properly the day before the failure.

It started with the ignition not turning over, then went to no speedometer and not shifting at 15 mph. Carriage fixed the computer problem, but the ignition continued to fail. It sometimes took dozens of times to start. I have receipts for 5 attempts between to mechanics to repair it, but it was actually worked on 9 times before the engine gave out.Note: The body failure occurred when a semi passed in the opposite direction and the plastic panel beneath the wipers flew off.

In May of 2003 I started smelling an extremely unpleasant odor from the air conditioner. I couldn’t take it anymore, so in August or September I brought it to the dealer. It cost $90 to deodorize and they told me to spray Lysol in the vents everyday for a month. After a month it was no better, so I took it in again. They deodorized it a second time and a week later I lost all of my freon. It cost me another $70 for a charge. They checked it again today and told me the evaporator was no good. The car has 23k miles and is garaged 7 days a week. It is used one day a week on average and on long trips. It has never been in an accident. I have tried to e-mail my complaint to Chrysler and their website works about as well as their air conditioners. I have a complaint # with them of 11790831.

In august of 2003 my timing chain broke. Root cause tensioner had broken causing timing chain to break. This failure caused my engine to fail and cause roughly $2500 worth of damage, valves were damaged and other misc. damage. Now 16000 miles later, my car has been towed to the garage and I noticed when inspecting where the oil is poured into the engine that there is sludge. I am waiting to see if the engine is repairable or not. My issues with my car are concurrent with the others being reported.

In August 2003, our engine light went on…so we took it to the dealership…the dealership said that our gas banks were off and that they needed to be reprogramed…After they did their reprograming..the engine light went off….about a month later we heard a slight knocking from under the hood…so we took it to the dealership…and they said that our engine was going to blow….but they couldn’t be sure until they took it apart…when they did they told us that there was sludge in the engine and that it was “owner neglect”…we told them we had the oil changed at least three times and they said if we could produce the receipts then they would see what they could do…but they said even with the receipts…the car was not under warrenty…and it would cost us about 6,000- 9,000 to fix…so it has been sitting in our driveway collecting dust and costing us a monthly payment + insurance…. We contacted Chrysler and they basically told us the same thing the dealship told us…to pound salt!!!Talking to several mechanics..they said even if you never got your oil changed..@26k you should not have that much sludge to blow and engine…neither Chrysler or dealership was much help

In April of 2003 the 2.7 liter engine in my Chrysler Concore failed. When I took it in for repairs, it was brought to my attention that due to a build up of sludge in the oil resevoir the engine would need to be replaced. Both the dealer and Chrysler have repeatedly declined to discuss the issue with me, even though I have maintained that the problem began (though did not manifes) when the car was within the warranty period. I have since read numerous reports of similar failures in DaimerChrysler’s 2.7 liter engine, most of which point to an inadequate oil distribution system. I believe the engine to be unfit for distribution.

I\’ve brought my car to two different mechanic\’s,with the same diagnoises (\"thease cars are known for their engines to fail because of this sludge problem in the motor\").Also the one mchanic told me one remanufactured company won\’t guarantee it\’s motor and the other claims it has corrected the problem (but it costs about another 1,000 dollors ). In all I have purchased 3 Chrysler vehicles in the last seven years an haven\’t been satisfied yet? The first one was a Jeep Cherokee which had a problem with the window coming off it\’s track (alway\’s before a storm was coming !!!!)The second is this Chrysler Concorde and now I have a 2004 Dodge 2500 truck with dry rotted tires. In closing I belong to the international union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman where we take a lot of pride in buying American made vehicles but . . . this treatment I have received !!!

I was dropping my kids off at school and the oil light came on and then I heard a lot of noises. I called my brother who had it taken to a mechanic. He tried to flush it out so that I could drive it awhile longer. It did not work. i’m looking at a new engine which i cannot afford. i have 4 kids and am ready to lose my job of 16 years.

I was driving this car down the road and the engine came to a complete shut down. The engine was checked and determined that oil build up in the motor. I had the oil changed less then 500 miles before the engine problem.

I was driving the car when the engine started knocking; it got louder and louder until it lost power and stopped. The auto repair shop said that I needed a new engine due to oil starvation. The mechanic stated that the engine failure was due to metal deposits and sludge in the engine oil eventually causing it to seize. I was driving home from work and the front of the car underneath the hood started making a loud noise. Then the car started to jerk and as I came to a stop the engine died. The car would restart but only went a couple feet before it died again. I tried to restart the engine because none of the dash lights had come on and none of the lights were on when I tried to restart the car. I thought that if it was the engine at least the engine light would have come on or even been on at some point prior to this problem. Of course I had to call a tow truck from the next town over because I was in a little town about 30 miles from where I worked and 25 miles from where I live. There was not even a police officer in that town (Westfield, IL) to help me push the car off the side of the road and it was dark out. They towed it to a mechanic and I was told by the mechanic that the engine was bad and I would have to replace it.

I was driving down the road one day and all of a sudden I started to here this horrible clicking noise coming from the engine. I brought it to the dealership from were I bought it from and they told me the warranty had expired. they told me to contact Chrysler and see if the warranty had expired with them and they told me that the warranty had been voided due to having put in aftermarket injectors. so I attempted to find out what was wrong with it myself and I found out that it was the timing chain guide that had broken into five separate sections.

I received 2 estimates and was told that my car requires a complete engine.

I purchased this car in August 2003 and the engine went out on November 22, 2003 due to oil suldge build up. The manufacture warranty was expired. The dealer I purchased the vehicle from warranty was only for 30 days. Yes I got a lemon if you ask me.

I purchased my 1999 Chryler Concorde from Charlie O’Baugh Pontiac,Buick,GMC in April 2004 with 50778 miles.In Aug 2004 the engine failed with 57294 miles DUE TO AN OIL PASSAGE PROBLEM. O’Baugh refused to help in any way and saidChryler would not assist either. They estimated $6000 in eng rebuild. My transmission also will not shift properly to 4th gear. I am a single mother with a junk auto sitting in my driveway. I’m still making monthly payments for the next few years. Chryler needs to stand behind their defective design problems.

I purchased a 2000 Concorde on 12-16-05 from AMS auto sales. The sticker on the window showed it had recently had a oil change but since I always change the oil right away and the oil did not look brand new I took it to a local shop I also asked them to verify/investigate a small noise which I felt was coming from the engine but that the dealer claimed would happen if you used less than premium gas. I found it odd since I always use 92 or above. I was told that a engine rod was bent and that a thicker oil viscosity such as 20/50 was used most likely to mask the problem. I know the dealer was involved in the coverup because he said we always change the oil and clean, prep the cars for sale. I noticed that they used baking powder in the back trunk of a convertible when I went back to the dealer I have to assume they were trying to hide the smell of water damage.The dealer refuses to answer my calls, he did not send me the plates for the car until 2-28-06 mind you I purchased the car Dec.16, 2005. During my research I have found over 100 pages and the list goes on of a sludge oil problem in the 2.7 engine. I took the vehicle to Chrysler for a 2nd opinion and they confirmed that the rods are bent repair cost $7000. Sorry goodbye. I had to rent a car since 12-26-05 until 3-10-06 as I was attempting to salvage the vehicle it sits there as a lawn ornament and since my credit card was maxing out (I purchased the Concorde cash to avoid a monthly payment) and I was now effectively broke I had to use my credit card as a down payment on another vehicle and take out a loan that I frankly cannot afford but better to eat peanut butter than to starve because I cannot walk to any supermarkets none nearby and I have multiple back surgeries. I purchased a 2000 Chrysler Concorde with a 2.7 engine that failed due to timing chain slipping from the timing chain guider. Broke and blew the engine. We are constantly changing brakes/rotors front and rear/the tire rod end make A loud noise when turning the steering wheel while driving/mirrors stop working/windshield wipers. Had the car Towed to a shop that wanted $2100 to replace the engine Chrysler told me not to purchase any other parts for the Engine after I had purchased a timing chain/tensionor and Tensionor arm along with the other 3 tensionors guiders And the vehicle will not start due engine failure which Will cost anywhere from $3000-$5000 for Chrysler to Replace.

I have water leaks that do not go away no matter what I do. Primarily located on the back seat driver side floor. I have recently been getting leaks in the back seat passenger side floor. Where in the hell are they coming from?The driver side seatbelt does not retract very well.I have replaced on door lock mechanism- front passenger door. Chrysler has repaired to problems with electric windows not coming up and down. I have another electric window problem starting (again).

I have not had the motor replaced because they said that it would cost $7000.00 and the blue book value was less than that. Had regular oil changes and no problems with car when one day I heard a noise and did not even make it to dealer when car stopped. They would not accept my receipts for oil changes because they needed more information on receipts stating condition of oil.

I have blown 2 engines in my 2000 Chrysler Concorde. The first time it happened there was no oil in the motor. I assumed that since there were no leaks and no white smoke that this was a result of a Jiffy lube oil change where they failed to put in the oil. The oil light came on and the engine seized. The car had about 95k miles on it. Then more recently the engine began making a tapping sound

I have a blown engine due to engine sludge, about a month or so before the engine locked up I noticed that every time I would drive a long distance and come to a stop the oil light would come on. About a week of this happening I took my car in for an oil system cleaning and oil change, hoping that this would solve the problem. A couple of weeks after that I noticed that the oil light was coming on and staying on. I took my car in for a system scan and I was told that my oil sensor and crank sensor needed to be replace. This was done along with a transmission line. Two days after picking up my car and driving less than a mile my car started jerking. I pulled over and had the car towed to my mechanic; I was told that I need transmission work! well the next day the mechanic called and told me that he pulled my oil pump and he found that I had engine sludge. I could not understand this because I have my oil changed on a regular basis, and that I had an oil system cleaning done also. He said that the amount of sludge that was there was probably from the previous owner not having frequent oil changes. Due to me having the car only a year and a half that there should not have been sludge build up that bad. Now I\’m stuck with payments that I still have to make on a car that\’s not running and a new engine will cost me 7,000.00

I have 2000 Concorde which I change the oil on every 3000 to 3500 miles. While driving it at about 40mph last week, the engine suddenly cut out. No warning, nothing. I am being told that the timing chain went due to sludge buildup. When the timing chain went the engine was trashed and is estimated at a $5800 repair. The vehicle only has 64500 miles on it. Unfortunately, I still owe a ton of money to the bank for this car.Thus far, I have been stonewalled by Chrysler regarding this issue. No way that a car with 64500 light condition miles on it, that is well maintained, should be trashed.

I had my oil changed and within 20 miles of that the engine started knocking horribly. I got back to the AAA where the oil was changed and was told the engine was toast. I called Chrylser customer service and was told it had to be diagnosed by Chrysler. I had it towed there and they told me the engine had to be replaced. They told me they would offer no assistance. I sold the car as is to a mechanic two days later.

I brought it to the mechanic after a loud knocking sound in the engine. He check the timing chain, and after lost all compression in the engine. He then found copper shavings in the oil pan. Dollar amount above is estimate of repair for his recommendation of brand new engine.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND WITH 80,300 MILES THE ENGINE HAS ALREADY GONE BAD. I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (75,000 MILES). I bid on a 2000 Chrysler Concorde at an auction and when i bought it and went to start it and the car was making a clicking sound. I got it towed to a shop and it was the timing chain. I had to get the whole top of the motor replaced total costs about $1400

I am currently working with the dealer to try to get this paid under the service contract which we bought when we purchased the car.

I am an owner of the dreaded 2.7L engine. I am filing a complaint like so many other have because of the extremely dangerous engine failure that happens on these cars. I can not believe a car with under 60 thousand miles on it would have a blown engine. I was not aware that Chrysler only has a 3 year 36000 mile POWERTRAIN warranty. That is one of the lowest in the industry. My daughter was driving this car when the failure happened. I am so glad that no one was hurt or killed by this obvious lemon car

Failure of water pump. Rapid overheating. Costly repair: seven (7) hours of labor! Better engine design may have prevented need for such extensive labor cost to replace an item that should have a known life span.

Engine will turn over, but will not crank. Had it check and was advised that motor was shattered and needed a new motor.

Engine totally sludged up. Taken in for car running hot and running rough. Mechanic had diagnostic equip. Car needs new engine. car was bought used with 60,000 miles on it. Oil was changed regularly. Called Chrysler, and it asked me to take car to a dealer for diagnostic. This would require towing at this point and there is no guarantee the dealer would not just say replace the engine at more than my payment left on the car, about $7,000.

Engine started knocking then just siezed and stopped. Found out engine blown. Mechanics not recommending repair because this particular engine is bad news. Even hard to locate an engine. So far, no repair done. Only had the car for nine months.

I have not repaired the car yet, because I have been told that the 2.7L engine will not last & I do not want to put 4 or 5 thousand dollars into fixing the engine if it is likely to do the same thing again. The manufacture will not pay for any of the repairs, as a matter of fact when I called Chrysler they hung up on me, because they didn\’t want to discuss the problem with the engine.

Engine had complete breakdown. Not repairable. Estimated cost to find used engine and install $2200. Oil had been changed at regular intervals. Repair person referred to this engine as “the grenade”

Engine failed due to the timing chain breaking while driving on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. The car had to be towed over 70 miles to my home. My mechanic informed me the damage was so extensive that the engine would need to be replaced. He called service personnel at three different Chrysler dealers, and all three told him that this was a common occurrance – that the engine fails at around 50,000 miles due to the timing chain breaking.Both the Chrysler Corporation and the dealer, Martin Chrysler of Sicklerville, NJ, have been totally uncooperative in helping with this problem. The dealer claims to have no knowledge of this ever happening to a Concorde before. Engine failed due to sludge build up. We are the original owners, oil changes where done on time or early, and documented. We used Castrol SynticBlend oil. From a source I have in Chrysler, there is a KEG REPORT about this problem, known since about 2002. I can\’t get a copy of the report.

Engine failed due to metal deposits and sludge in the engine oil eventually causing it to seize. However, engine had received regular oil changes so was not owner error. Repair shop manager indicated this was a frequent issue with the Chrysler 2.7L engine.

Engine failed and this is when I found out about the 2.7 liter engine problem. I was able to find someone to fix the car at a minimal cost compared to other estimates.

Engine blown. Took To repair Shop For Diagnosis. Mechanic stated engine blown and timing chain keeps jumping off. He told me the engine needs to be totally broken down and any parts replaced and engine rebuilt. Sludge was noted by mechanic and myself all over the top half of the engine. I bought this vehicle on September 2, 2005 from Ourisman Wheaton Chevrolet in Wheaton, Maryland. I had the oil changed on December 13, 2005 (mileage was than 41,855). I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THEM REPAIRED.ENGINE SEIZED IN MY MECHANICS DRIVEWAY. THE MECHANIC HAD NEVER SEEN THIS SO BAD BEFORE AND ASKED ME IF I EVER HAD THE OIL CHANGED. ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK MOTORS FAILED ON BOTH FRONT DOORS.AFTER THIS REPAIR WAS COMPLETE THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE BACK OF THE CAR WENT BAD. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF.I CAN UNDERSTAND ONE GOING BAD. THE SECOND ONE GOING BAD AT THE SAME TIME IS REALLY A COINCIDENCE. THE THIRD ONE A MONTH AFTER THE OTHER TWO SMELLS OF SOMETHING BAD.

Driving car when engine started knocking…it got louder and louder until it lost power.

Complete engine failure after only 90,053Regular oil changes and maintenances were completed. All oil changes and maintenances are documented. Research has shown that there is a problem with the engine in this vehicle make.

Complete and sudden engine failure do to oil sludge build up inside engine block. The engine was beyond repair because the timing chain had frozen inside the block requiring a total replacement. of the engine at my cost. Chrysler would not acknowlegde any responsibility.

Complete 2.7L engine failure at 87,000 miles. Oil changes occured every 3,000 miles (more than the recommendation by the manufacturer). Without any indication of a problem, the engine shut down on the highway traveling at 70 mph placing us in a very dangerous situation trying to coast to a safe place. The car was towed to a closed Chrysler dealership on a Saturday evening and we were stranded trying to find a rental car. The Chrysler dealership stated the next Monday that the engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $7400. Considering that the balance of the car loan is $6000, it is not feasible to repair the car at that cost. Unfortunately, we are still making payments on this car that we cannot drive and we are also paying a storage fee since we are unable to keep a broken down car at our residence. At the same time we have been paying for a rental car until we find another vehicle. Prior to this happening, we were considering buying a Chrysler Pacifica, but seeing the lack of response/support from Daimler Chrysler, we will never buy another vehicle from this company again. Please pass the word around to your friends and family about this situation as we have. They have all reconsidered buying a Daimler Chrysler/Dodge/Mercedes product because of this and they too have looked somewhere else for another vehicle.

Clattering sound from the engine, no check engine light or oil light. Took it into the dealer and they called me the next day saying the engine was shot. I asked about warranties, recalls or any other help and they said there was none. I called around to get prices on repairs and talked to several mechanics about this 2.7L engine and they all said it has a history of having major problems. The mechanic that repaired my car found oil sludge build up in the PU tube and cylinder head. This repair garage gave me a phone number for an arbitrator that Chysler supposedly contracted with to work out these problems, I have not yet called but will do so soon.

Car was running sounding like a diesel engine or a jetliner. Called the dealership had the car towed to dealership. Was told that the timing chain tensioner was broken. Timing chains and guides damaged. Was told it was due to engine sludge. I had purchased the extended warranty up to 75,000 miles. I was originally told that the extended warranty would not cover it. Luckily the dealership manager made sure it was taken care of. The warranty company said it was negligence on my part because there was sludge in the engine even though I had receipts for all of my oil changes (every 3000 miles). Unfortunately, the same manager that was there, no longer works there. So I\’m sure when it goes again, and I\’m sure it will, I will have a heck of a time trying to get them to pay for it a second time.

Car never leaked oil, never smelled of burning oil, nor showed colored fumes, yet on this date, upon starting my car, loud knocking began, my oil stick showed no oil, along with my oil light coming on. Turned my car off, added two quarts, waited 5 minutes– barely marked the stick. Added one more quart, waited 5 minutes– showed %200 full, and then my car wouldn’t start. Mechanic says timing chain + interior damage incurred as result of timing chain breaking. I don’t have the money to pay the mechanic only to tear my engine apart to tell me what’s wrong when I have read over a thousand cases of the same thing happening to others, so my car has not been worked on yet. Don’t have money to fix or pay two cars off simultaneously, so cost is mechanic estimation.

Bought the car(used) in April, 2007. Had the oil changed for the first time, and the car died three or four days later, in Sept., 2007. Can not afford the repair of $3000 for a used engine! or $5000 for a new engine.

Bought car used in 03/30/05 for $6000.00. The car when bought had 86738 miles, less than 50 miles added the engine started to knock broght back and the dealer repaired. 04/03/07 vehicle started knocking again with 110624 miles. Cost to repair the vehicle $2500.00. I changed oil every 3000 miles.

at least 2 rod bearings failed resulting in having to replace the engine.Built in plastic clip on power window broken. Mechanic says entire window has to be replaced since the clip built into the window.

All that was stated have been repaired during the last 7 years..the most recent was the engine just cut out.. I was with my family and car shut down at 65 mph.. Do not have extra money to get repaired…Door locks(3 times) ignition switch (1) timing chain/belt at 60,000 miles…Please help—

After about five miles of driving the engine starts making ratteling noises,I took the car to a dealer at that time i was told i needed a new engine, I asked if there was any known problems he told me no.From there i went to Kerns Auto repair down the street for a second oppionion, they told me all about this problem.

According to the dealership that diagnosed the need for a new engine, the problem was worn rod bearings and a damaged crank shaft. I don\’t know what the cause was, but I did look at the parts the day after they dropped the oil pan. I did not see any sludge in the oil pan and asked the mechanic if there was sludge in the engine and he said no. This engine still should not have failed at 59,700 miles as the oil was changed regularly. The dealer\’s estimate to install a new engine was $5725.16. The car was worth about $5200 trade in before the engine problem, thus I wasn\’t about to get it fixed. I managed to get $1500 for it.

2/22/07 Timing chain problem, due to failure of washer (found part in oil pan). Had car towed to dealer, as was cautioned engine would fail. Repair cost was still $1300 for known Chrysler Concorde 2000 problem. Mileage was 61,000, and Chrysler denies all restitution.

2.7L Engine spun a rod bearing due to sludge. Im told by several mechanics and the engine rebuilder {engine pro} that this is an ongoing problem due to a design flaw. Also wrote to a website called ask DR. Mopar. All say the same thing. Engine oil galleries are to small and only a small amount of sludge causes them to plug up. Thus no oil to the bearings. Have talked with mechanics that use to work at Chrysler dealers that say the same thing. All of these engines go at between 70 and 100 thousand miles. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge the problem. Have read a lot of the complaints posted on the web and see where there is a settlement company trying to make settlements with complainants.

2.7L Engine developed a slight “fluttering” sound when coasting that rapidly developed into a knock. Car had oil changed every 3-4K miles. I took it to my mechanic who “called around” and heard that this was an ongoing problem. I still have 8 months left to pay on the car but cost is to great to justify repair. I have been searching the internet and cannot believe the complaints I see regarding this chrysler product.

2.7 aluminum engine that was regularly serviced, blew. I later was advised that this engine is known as a complete failure by industry standards. I marked interested in class action, but only if one currently exists. I just want Chrysler to acknowledge the failure of this engine and to reimburse me my expenses.

The main problem is the blown engine. It is a 2.7 l engine on a 2000 Concodrde LX. I was told the water pump failed and leaked into the engine compartment causing the engine failure. The cost to repair was just too much to even consider and the car is probably going to salvage for approx. $275.

The engine stalled one day on my way to work. It started right up but continued to hesitate with a noticeable loss in performance. It stalled again several times in the following week taking more and more time to start with continuing performance loss and hesitation. It finally stalled one last time and did not re-start. Upon taking it to All Tune and Lube in Neptune City NJ it was discovered that this was the 2nd engine in this car and the head gasket had failed which caused the engine to fail. The shop manager told me that this was a common and well known problem with the Chrysler 2.7L DOHC V6 engines. I was further informed that the repair would be very expensive and there would be no guarantee that the engine would be reliable afterwards. The shop manager also told me that there was a recall of this engine due to this problem. I’d like to know what I need to do to be reimbursed for this repair work. Thank you.

Engine- 10/04 oil leak. 01/08 new engine. 04/08 engine parts. 12/08 as engine warms motor sounds like it is going to blow up, not fixed. Power Options – 07/01 lights on dash & overhead staying on, window rolling down causes lights to flicker & lights dimming when ideling. 12/04 light went on when wipers were turned on & wipers did not function properly. Transmission- 09/02 trans jerking & light on. 10/04 jumpy trans. Both covered under warranty.

I was driving west on Auten Road toward Portage ave in South Bend about to make a left turn onto Portage. The car was running fine up to this point – no warning lights ,no sounds from the engine – nothing abnormal – then it just stopped and would not restart. I had to have it towed to the repair shop. They informed me that an engine was needed to correct the failure, We have roughly changed oil at every 4000 miles and used synthetic oil.

Turn lights off car cuts off.

I was leaving work when the incident occurred and my life literally flashed in front of my eyes . i entered the freeway via the merge lane at approximately 30 mph. when i entered the freeway i slowly increased my speed to 50 mph. after approximately 3 miles on the freeway the engine made a loud knocking noise and shut off. at this point i lost all control of the vehicle, i could not steer. my vehicle scrapped off the jersey barrier and i pushed the brake pedal but the vehicle would not stop. i then pushed on the brake pedal as hard as i could causing me to skid sideways in the middle of the road. there was a vehicle behind me that had to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting me and in doing so he collided with another vehicle. i came to a stop in the middle of the road facing the wrong way on the road. luckily there were no injuries but this could have been way worst. i took the vehicle to a mechanic who advised me that the engine failed due to sludge buildup in the engine. he also stated that this is a common problem with this engine made by chrysler. i have changed my oil every 3k miles and i have paperwork to prove this. i cannot for life of me understand how a knowing person of this problem can turn an eye to it without doing something about it. this situation could have gone the other way, can we please do something before it does. what if it happens to your father or your mother or your kids. there has to be something we can do here! thanks *tr

As i was driving my air ag was released. in doing so my arm was hurt due to the air being developed. prior to that happening anytime i would park my car and set the alarm it wouldn't lock or unlock then it would reset my radio and light would start to flicker. *tr

There was no accident involved. all of a sudden the air bag light went on and it started to ding on and off. took to mechanic who took to chrysler dealer who said there was a recall back in 2000 regarding the fact that there was a recall concerning the seat belts affecting the air bag light. no one could find anything wrong with the car except the air bag light continues to go on even when the seat belts are not connected. it is really bothering me as i drive and this noise keeps binging and the light stays on. what is the solution??? *tr

The lifts on the hood and trunk have both been replaced because of falling. the door and headlight trim is going to have to be replaced because it has pulled completely off the doors and headlights because of shrinkage, then while driving down the interstate at 65 miles an hour the hood molding came flying off and went over the top of the car and landed in the ditch. these are defects which i feel chrysler should replace. *tr

I bought my car brand new from the dodge/chrysler dealership. i was driving when i heard a ticking coming from the engine, i used my cellphone to call my mechanic who stated that it was probably my timing chain but that if it's just ticking it's not imminent danger of breaking. i arrived to work and upon leaving work, i went to start the car and it would not start. it made a grinding sound, i saw smoke come from under the hood. i called a tow truck company and had the car towed to my mechanic. my mechanic stated that the engine was blown and would cost $6000.00 to replace it. i had the car towed home ( 2 towing fees at this point at $90.00 each). i called a mechanic that specializes in intrepid/concorde repairs and he advised that i should tow the car to him as it might not be completely blown. another towing fee ($90.00) and another mechanics opinion, yes the engine was completely blown and this mechanic stated the reason for failure was oil sludge. i asked what i could have done to prevent that from happening and he stated that there was nothing i could do, it's a known defect in that particular engine and that if i were to have it repaired, it was his advice to not put a 2.7l engine back in, but rather a 3.2 or 3.5l engine in as they did not have the defect of the 2.7l. i now have a paper weight in my driveway as i do not have the funds to repair the vehicle. i had to buy another car and now have a car payment to a car that i don't even really like much. i would like to know why i was sold a vehicle with a known engine defect and why chrysler won't do anything about it. *tr

Hello, i would just like to take the time to explain the situation with my year 2000 chrysler concorde lx. i am a college student and i purchased this car roughly a year and a half ago with 41,000 miles on it. the carfax vehicle report stated that the car had perfect routine maintenance and it was owned by one female owner over the course of its life. after owning the car i now have about 65,000 miles on this car, with perfect routine maintenance. i am experiencing the symptoms of the engine sludge problem that these 2.7 liter engines experience. my rpms are dropping to low revs at idle, and my mechanic says that the engine will eventually seize while driving. at this point i no longer drive the vehicle and leave it stationary in my parents garage. to replace these engines they cost around 4,000 - 10,000 dollars. that is more than the price of the vehicle itself. there is clearly a defect in the engine design, and any quick google search can show this. there are hundreds upon thousands of complaints online in public forums and engine oriented websites. i only hope that this organization investigates this situation, and takes it seriously. *tr

I have been having problems with my door locks for quite some time now. when i press the button to lock or unlock it will not work and it makes a loud noise.i have to unlock the doors by hand. i have checked with my mechanic and he tells me its probably the motor and it would have to be replaced in each door at about $150.00 each door. i bought my car new in 2000 i love the car but hate this problem.

The hydraulic mechanism's that hold up the trunk and the hoods on chrysler concords and other models have a tendency to allow the hood or trunk to close suddenly without warning. i have experienced this on my 2000 concord and my mother's concord also. it is not a matter or excess wear because there are only 50, 000 miles on my car the hood has only been opened about a dozen times give or take a few. the event that prompted me to file this complaint left a huge welt on my head, almost knocked me unconscious in a store parking lot, and made it necessary for me to seek medical advise from the bcbs hotline. the trunk of my car closed suddenly while i was moving my head toward it to put groceries in the truck. i have also had the hood slam shut on me but at the time i was not under it. the hood and trunk have considerable weight and if they catch someone with the full force of their fall i have no doubt it could be fatal. the failure is more prevalent in cold weather. in fact, my trunk and hood will not stay up on their own in cold weather and this is since the car was new. the incident that happened to me happened in warm weather however. i am surprised there has never been a recall on these parts. as i stated earlier i have seen this problem on more than one chrysler. this never happened when the hoods and trunks were held open with springs. so much for advanced technology. *tr

I purchased a 2000 chrysler concorde lx in sept. 2006. it had 114,305 miles at time of purchase. ten months later, the engine began to fail after normal, regular maintenance. i first thought there was an electrical problem since the car would die or was difficult to start, so i replaced the battery and associated cables. within a few weeks, the engine developed a loud rattling noise and soon could not be started at all. two mechanic shops stated that the engine was ruined because of a build up of sludge in the crank case, preventing oil from circulating properly. i was told that several rocker arms had been damaged and that several cylinders were warped. i spent $2,200 to have the engine rebuilt (i.e., entire crank case, timing belt tensioner, oil pump, cylinders, rods, etc.) in feb. 2008, after seven months of the car being inoperable. both mechanic shops stated that the sludge/oil circulation problem was endemic to the 2.7 liter chrysler engine due to a design flaw involving overly narrow, 90-degree oil passageways in the crank case that make oil flow exceedingly difficult. i feel that chrysler should reimburse me in full for the cost of rebuilding the engine since proper oil-flow is a basic engineering and/or manufacturing requirement in order to produce a reliable and safe engine. *tr

I am the original owner of chrysler concorde 2000, with a 2.7 engine. i have only used the dealer for all maintenance work and the car in no longer under the 7 years, 70,000 mile extended warranty. i have followed all maintenance for the car. on august 14, the engine light came and the engine performed erratically and i had the car towed to my chrysler dealer. they called, without specifically pinpointing the problem, and indicated that the engine would probably have to be replaced due to loss of pressure in one of the valves and that the engine would probably have to be replaced at a cost of almost $8,000. it cost $250 for that estimate. i had the car towed to a second auto repair shop and they stated the engine had major piston damage in the valve and a rebuild engine was the only option. they also indicated this engine had long term and well known problems of failure due to engine sludge. a review of numerous web sites indicates hundreds and hundreds of such complaints and chrysler pointing the car owners as responsible instead of being held accountable. the web sites indicated the engine was discontinued by chrysler within 2 years but no notification was ever made to current owners of the possibility of the problem occurring. i am extremely fortunate, that the engine failure did not occur while driving on my normal commute in a car pool on the interstate. any assistance that you can provide to hold chrysler accountable would be greatly appreciated *jb

Was on interstate heading to hampton virginia when had to pull over for traffic and sit for 20 minutes due to traffic accident delay, when i pulled back into traffic my car would not go over 10 miles per hour and was squealing and sounded like engine was falling out. had towed to chrysler dealership, said i need a new engine costing 7500.00, internal engine problem and my warranty expired 5 months ago!! still owe 2 years on this car with only 63,000 miles on it. took it for regular oil changes. *jb

Chrysler concorde lxi, model year 2000, mileage 71930: leaving driveway, turning right, upon trying to center steering wheel after turn, it would not turn back to the left and i ran off the road to the right. minor damage. backed out and only could steer left with extreme effort. managed to get car back into the driveway. call mechanic, told me rack and pinion had failed - common problem on 2000 concorde. if i had been traveling at highway speeds, this would have been really bad. *ak

First ,heard noise coming form engine(rattling noise). took to dealer to have them look at it. was told by mechanic, that the engine would probably be gone in six months. that's all i was told. no reasons why. if the problem was fixable or anything. a week later the car cut-off on me right after i had exited the highway. if i would've still been on the highway, it would've definitely caused a terrible accident. took car to my mechanic. he had to take the engine completely apart to find out what the problem was. come to find out , it was the water pump that caused the timing chain to break in two places, causing the whole engine to lock-up! so i paid my mechanic $1,615.20 to replace timing chain, gaskets,and numerous other things to try to get the car started just to see if the engine was gone. guess what i found out? it was gone -dead).now i'm stuck with a beautiful car , that's no good to me. and i'm still paying on it! this stinks.

I am the owner of a 2000 chrysler concorde. there is a smoke tinted piece of plastic between the hood and the windshield that is used to cover the vents on the hood. yesterday i was driving on the highway when this piece of plastic flew off the car, hit my windshield, went over the car, and smashed in the road in front of the car behind. several cars following me had to take evasive action which could have caused an accident. this is the second time their piece has failed. 3 yrs ago the same thing happened while i was on a highway causing the car behind me to run off the road. only by luck was no one was injured. if traffic had been heavier this could have been a tragic situation. i spoke with a dealer yesterday and was told there was no recall on this part however they had replaced a number of lost guards that had been blown off the car in the same method i described. they said they could replace the part again but no modifications had been made to insured the part would stay on the car. *tr

I was driving at 40 mph on a busy highway and my engine shut off. i was able to go to the shoulder of the road and avoid any traffic problems. had my vehicle towed to the repair shop , and they indicated that my engine was blown and needed replacement. i only had 82,000 miles and changed my oil 3 to 4 times a year.this was well within the guidlines. had my car towed to the dealer and they were great. they set up a communication with chrysler and instead of having to pay $8,100 for an engine replacement, they offerred to pay $7,000 and i had to pay $1,000. i was happy with the result, however, i don't know why i should have liable for any amount.*ak

We were traveling about 40 mph on the front beach road in panama city, fl, during christmas 06 the plastic piece between the windshield and the hood flew off and hit our windshield very hard and flew over our car. it was dark and we were not sure what hit our windshield until the morning and we saw that long piece was missing from our car. we went and tried to find the piece that flew off on the side of the road, but could not find it. we are not sure how much this piece will cost us, but i feel for it to fly off and hit our windshield was very dangerous and not sure if it hit anyone behind us. i feel after reading this complaint several times on this site that chrysler needs to research his problem and fix the problem and reimburse us who have lost this piece to their negligence. *jb

I was driving along interstate 295 just passing into massachusetts on october 20th 2006 when i heard my engine making horrid sounds, all of a sudden i had no control and instead of panicking like a normal driver and crashing horribly(which would have happened i assure you) i popped the car into neutral, turned off all power and coasted into the breakdown lane(turning with no power is no fun at all). as it turns out my engine had blown up while i was driving which could have killed me and had my 2 week old daughter and fiance been in the car they as well. my mechanic told me that i should not have been able to do what i did but i was lucky and there were very few drivers on the road. i have worked at oil change garages and i do regular maintenance on my car. the fault is with the engine. *nm

Emergency brake light on but brake was off. stopped by dealer and service rep. said emergency break was not fully released and he released it. about a week later the light came on again and this time the brake was on and i was unable to release it all the way. went to the dealer again and the service rep. said the park brake racket needed to be replaced and since the dash board would have to be taken off the cost for the part and labor would be $841.81. wow that's a lot of money for a retired person. *nm

I own a 2000 chyrsler concorde with a 2.7 lemon engine. it blew up at 73500 miles. my mechanic says it is due to oil sludge buildup and too small of oil ports. i have read the 100's of complaints from other people on the internet as well as chryslers denial of a problem. if former employees of chrysler have told me this is a design problem. it is time for daimler chrysler to step up to the plate and act responsibly. regardless of their claims one or two missed oil changes will not cause total engine failure. it is not unreasonable to expect a vehicle to go for 200 thousand miles or more in this age of technology! i also own a 96 gmc yukon with 156 thousand miles on it. it still runs great and has not given me any engine problems. *jb

Complete 2.7l engine failure at 87,000 miles. oil changes occurred every 3,000 miles (more than the recommendation by the manufacturer). schedule a in the owners manual recommends oil changes every 7500 miles under "normal" operating conditions. schedule b recommends oil changes every 3000 miles if you operate your vehicle under one or more of the following conditions: 1. day and night temperatures are below freezing or 2. frequent stop and go driving or 3. frequent long periods of engine idling or 4. frequent short trips of less than 5 miles or 5. frequent operation at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 90 degrees fahrenheit or 6. frequent trailer towing or &. taxi, police or delivery service, non of which apply to our situation and we still changed the oil every 3000 miles. without any indication of a problem, the engine shut down on the highway traveling at 70 mph placing us in a very dangerous situation trying to coast to a safe place. the car was towed to a closed chrysler dealership on a saturday evening and we were stranded trying to find a rental car. the chrysler dealership stated the next monday that the engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $7400. considering that the balance of the car loan is $6000, it is not feasible to repair the car at that cost. unfortunately, we are still making payments on this car that we cannot drive and we are also paying a storage fee since we are unable to keep a broken down car at our residence. at the same time we have been paying for a rental car until we find another vehicle. i contacted chrysler customer relations dept. 1/11/06 and spoke with a screener who gave me a reference number and passed me on to chrysler rep. #177 only to be told by chrysler rep. id#177 that it's not their problem, it's our problem. *jb

My wife and son were parking the vehicle when a creak followed by a loud popping noise occured. at that point, the vehicle could not be steered. the vehicle was towed to the local chrysler dodge dealer ship in frisco, tx for analysis. subsequent report from the dealership was that both pins holding the tie-rod ends to the rack and pinion steering box had sheared. in addition, the rack and pinion steering box had a crack. don't know if the pins sheared first or the crack in the box came first. the steering wheel inside the car could be rotated 360 deg. in either direction with no accompaning action of the tires on the ground. absolutly no steering control whatsoever! this was a total collosal manufactureing defect in the steering that has happened before (check the website complaint # 10053466) in tucsan, az around january of 2004. my rack & pinion steering box was replaced at 35k miles by this same dealership while still under warrenty due to a malfunction while steering the car. i'm just greatful that my wife and son were not out on the highway when this major failure occured. someone is going to get killed if this is not fixed! quit ignoring the fact (chrysler) that there is a engineering defect in this vehicle model! *nm

Im not to sure why my car did this. i just shut off in stop and go traffic luckily, because i had my 2year old son in the car. i was able to start if back up and get home. it didnt happen again but you never know when it will happen.

The car was purchased used from yankee ford,so.portland. with 60,000 miles on it. after a few days, the car seemed to idle high. yankee ford diagnostic could find nothing wrong. in 2004 fall, i took it in because it was running hot, the engine sounded rough. the oil changes were up to date. the oil was clean when the mechanic looked at it. he did a diagnostic check. then he looked in the engine. it was very dirty. when the machine shop cleaned it, the mechanics said they never saw anything like it, it was caked with sludge. the car has been sitting in the shop while the mechanic has looked for a new used engine. the cost is very, very high and i still owe $7,000 on the car. it had less than 80,000 miles on it when i took it in. *jb

Dt: consumer heard a knocking noise while driving or idling. took vehicle to a mechanic, who was unable to repair car because he did not know what the noise was. referred to a dealership, who had 3 technicians inspect the vehicle. it was suggested not to drive any further or the motor may blowout. a new motor was recommended. there was sludge in the engine and shavings in the oil pan. consumer was not exactly sure what the final diagnosis was on the motor, but remembered the sludge and shavings. contacted chrysler about the motor because the vehicle had been maintained regularly. chrysler returned consumer's call and stated they would pay 50% of the bill for the replacement of the motor. vehicle is in the shop for repairs now. *ak *nm

2000 chrysler concorde lh; ac evaporator failed after about 3 years; dealer charged me more than $500 for an analysis and re-charge, which lasted 2 months; took it back to dealer, who then told me it was the ac evaporator, and that it was out of warranty! to fix it would cost more than $1,200. i contacted the dealer and chrysler on 7.8.2005 and was told there was nothing they could do. this is grossly unfair -- especially when chrysler knows there is a known defect in its air conditioning systems. chrysler said there has been no recall on this equipment so there is nothing they can do.

Dt: the caller stated car was idling up while driving, and then it stalled. this happened about 20 times while driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the cam sensor and computer throttle sensor were the cause of the failure. the tie-rod ends also failed. the estimated cost to replace the sensors was $300-$400. the car has a warranty, but this problem was not covered under the warranty.*ak

My chrysler concorde(2000) just up and died on the side of the highway a couple of months ago. it was due to oil sludge. we got the oil changed every three thousand miles and it threw a rod. the mechanics said it will take 4000 to fix but i can't afford it. so i have been paying on a car that i can't drive. the car only has about 70000 miles on it. the oil was changed aabout a month before this happened. nothing has been done to the car because i can't afford it. it lost all power on the highway as my wife drove it and had to be towed.

2000 concorde~this will be the fourth time in less than a year my car has been in the shop for a/c repair. it will just all of a sudden stop cooling. the first time, 08/2004, it held a charge and chrysler couldn't find a leak or problem anywhere. the second time, 04/2005, chrysler couldn't find anything wrong again, so they suggested replacing the evaporator coil (they weren't positive if this was the problem or not since the e. coil seemed "o.k.") to replace the e. coil it would have cost $1,100! so, chrysler refers me to a local, very reputable, auto a/c business. we take it there, 04/2005, the a/c holds a charge all night and they can't find any leaks anywhere, plus there is nothing wrong with the evaporator coil. today is a month later and my a/c is not working again! i think chrysler should fix the problem at no charge.

Vehicle made noise from what i assumed was the engine on the morning of the incident. i immediately called to make a service appointment and drove my son to school. on my way from school to work the vehicle ceased operating. i had stopped at a traffic light and the car died. no indicator lights had gone on. other than the initial noise it had made upon starting that morning there was no indication that there was any problem. the car was towed to a nearby dealership, and i was told it was complete engine failure and that the engine would have to be replaced, no other alternative. i chose not to replace the engine since a new warranty engine would have cost almost as much as the car was worth.*ak

On my way to work my engine in my 2000 concord started ticking and seized while driving in a snow storm on january 4, 2005. i only have 40,000 miles on my 4 year old car with a 5 year/50,000 mile extended warranty which i paid over $900 for and chrysler will not help! i was fortunate that i was slowing down for a red light when it seized which saved me from being in an accident or from anyone getting hurt. the local car repair shop told me that my timing belt broke and destroyed the engine and that it was a common problem in the 2.7l engines that chrysler put in their cars due to the oil distribution system. chrysler blames the problem with sludging in the engine and it will cost me $6,000 to replace the engine. they want me to show my receipts for my oil changes which i did not save. when i went to the shops that i had my oil changes done some were not on the system because i did not return within a year and the latest shop where i change my oil just received a new computer system and just started to record the changes on february 15, 2005 but not prior to this date. this leaves me with nothing but a big bill that i should not have to pay! i know that there is a class action lawsuit being or already is filed against chrysler for this problem. i need to find out how to get my name on this lawsuit and how to escalate this problem to get chrysler to pay for the fixes. i can be e-mailed at [email protected] or by replying to this e-mail.*ak

2000 chrysler concorde with 56,000 miles i was driving on the garden state parkway near forked river, new jersey when i heard a popping sound, then the engine went dead. i looked under the hood and the plastic cover over the engine was torn and oil/gas was splattered everywhere. we needed to be towed off the gsp by their tow truck, then had to call aaa after that for another tow. since we were about 80 miles from home, this resulted in a towing charge of over $200. my mechanic informed me that the engine needs to be replaced. he spoke with service personnel at three different chrysler dealers, and all told him this is a common occurrence for the engine on this make and model vehicle, at or around 50,000 miles the timing chain breaks, resulting in irreparable damage to the engine. the estimated cost to replace the engine is $5,000. *jb

We first saw a dealership regarding a clicking in the engine compartment on april 26, 2004, then again on july 16, 2004 at a different dealership. on the latter date, the battery was replaced and the oil changed. on 7/25, the engine. i was fortunate that i had just pulled into my driveway when this occurred. we replaced the engine early in 2005. when the tech broke down the old 2.7 liter engine, he wrote, "...rod bearings worn and rod tap noise the engine showed no signs of abuse or alteration...". the engine was replaced with a different engine. at this time, we are preparing to request compensation from daimler-chrysler. *jb

The engine of my 2000 chrysler concorde began making a knocking noise. immediately the oil warning lamp immuminated. i drove the vehicle to the purchase delearship where following diagnostic test was told the motor was destroyed. the repair cost was placed at approx. $7,900. the cause was placed on a clogged oil intake not allowing oil to circulate the motor, essentially starving the engine. following the incident i began to research the 2.7 liter chrysler motor and uncovered numerous engine failures from various website listings. the center for automotove safety has contacted chrylsler on two occasions requesting a remedy for the consumers, out in most cases, several thousand dollars. i plead with you to look into this matter. over 490 of these motors have suffered catastrophic engine failure due to this design flaw. the flaw appears to be associated with a small oil passage which causes the motor to run at a higher tolerence than normal. eventually the oil develops what is caused a sludge problem and the evental engine failure comes soon thereafter. these vehicles are breaking down anywhere from 40,000 miles on up to mine which was at 98,000. i personally had to borrow the $6,000 down payment so not only am i out the old vehicle i am out the $6,000 i had to bowwor to make the down payment. there are several consumer websites where this onformation can be located. a simple yahoo search for the chrysler 2.7 liter motor will provide a wealth of initial research information. please look into this matter and hopefully come to a resolution with the chrysler corporation to assist the consumers which have losts thousands of dollars as a result of this design flaw.*ak

Having just exited the expressway, vehicle stalled and lost braking and steering. unable to restart engine, and facing an uphill slope, i was able to back my car through five lanes of traffic to safety at the side of the road. had this spontaneous and catastrophic failure occured just one mile earlier, i most like would not have lived to file this complaint. there is no doubt in my mind that many people have perished driving this car, as a more thorough investigation of fatalities in this model will prove. chrysler dealer wants $375 to find cause of engine failure and $7500 to replace the engine. this is a 2.7 v6 with 58,000 miles.*ak

Sludge in the engine of a chrysler concord 2.7l engine resulting in thousands of dollars to repair. routine maint. had been preformed and yet sludge still built up. this is a design flaw, not a maint. problem.

The car was idling for about 20minutes, then it started to idle up quite high then bog down low, after that i turned the ignition off, waited for my husband. got the car to his fathers house, barely, then took it to where we bought it from. then it died and won't start back up. the car only has 105,000 miles on it. engine is completly gone.

Car stalled at red light, i pulled over to firestone to have them put the car on a machine to scan for errors and i was told that my crank shaft sensor and oil sensor were bad, i paid for them to replace the sensors ($525.00) and five days later while driving i smelled something and pulled over, this time it was my transmission line ($480.00) and transmission work $(1765.00) this was all paid within 2 weeks, but when i went to pick up the car i was told that they thought that my oil pump needed to be replaced,but when they pulled the oil pump they said that i had engine slug. *ak

I have several rather expensive failing items on my car including recurring issues: had to replace the r/p steering at 65,000 miles steering rack had excessive play at the 'neutral' or straight position; the molding around all doors has pulled away from the body of the car; rear door locks need to be replaced due to electrical problem; left taillight gasket leaks has ruined interior of the car; plastic trim at the base of my windshield is flapping in the wind; replaced stabilizer bar ends; engine coolant outlet housing was replaced due to a leak from the vent fitting - and to date i have at least 3 more things we have to look at before i can sell this heep.*ak

The engine of my 2000 chrysler concord failed while i was driving the car on october 13, 2004.i have slightly over 60,000 miles on the car and it is 4 1/2 years old.*ak i had the car towed to my dealership. upon inspection, they stated that they "found engine sludged up causing minimal amount of oil pressure (rod bearings and timing chain bad)" they stated the engine needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $7000 plus tax. the service manager, pete, said that this engine is a continual problem and that they hate to see these cars come in for repair. i had the automobile towed to a private repair shop on october 19,2004 for a second opinion. the repair shop came back with the same issue and a repair estimate of $5400. the repair shop also stated that they have done several of these engine replacements to the chrysler 2.7l engine. that there engine has a very poor design that leads to sludge pulling into the engine even with regular and timely oil changes. it is a problem of the engineering design of the engine. i have performed the oil changes on the vehicle based on the recommended miles in the owners manual. i still owe about $4800 on a vehicle that does not run due to a manufacturing defect. chrysler refuses to extend their warrenty. there should be no need to replace such a low mileage engine that has been properly cared for.

2000 chrysler concord - in the past 3 years door relays (control locks and power windows) have failed 4 times in my car. the service advisor at a chrysler dealership knew the part and cost as soon as i started to describe my problem. she stated that this was a condition she was very familiar with. my private service center also was familiar with this failure. when these componets fail; power windos won't work and doors can't be electrically unlocked. i believe this condition presents a serious safety condition. if indeed there is a recognizable failure rate of these components the problem needs to be addressed. the possible results are that people stand to be trapped in crashed or burning vehicles.*ak

In august of 2003. my chrysler concorde failed due to a faulty tensioner, 66,000 miles. this caused engine damage(valves bent, etc..) engine rebuilt cost $2500. on september 6th 2004 82,000 miles, i was driving my car to get food. approximately 1 mile or less from my home, my car died. oil was sludgy when viewing it through oil entrance on engine. awaiting repair estimates from repair shop.*ak

During 4 yrs of ownership, i am experiencing the worst. i just had my rack and pinion replaced after steering wheel would not return or would lock in place after making a turn left or right and feeling as though the chassis was falling out from underneath my car. i was also told that i will need my stabilizer bar replaced after complaining about erratic shaking sometimes severe when making a stop whether coming off the highway or driving on a street. it has gotten pretty bad lately. i have not been in any accident since purchasing my car custom ordered. last year i had to have my actuators in all doors except driver side replaced due to malfunction. wasn't able to open by remote or manually except when i pushed the remote first then lifted lock manually. i have had my door rubbers replaced 2 yrs after ownership and they need to be replaced again because they have pulled from frame. rubber around lights have pulled away also which gives the car a very 'cheap' look. *nm

While the vehicle was parked consumer noticed liquid underneath the vehicle on the driver 's side front wheel. consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer. then, abs brake light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. mechanic determined that the abs brake module unit needed to be replaced due to a worn out part. *ak

Intermittently while starting the vehicle consumer heard a screeching noise coming from the engine. while the noise was present vehicle revved severely. after awhile the noise subsided, and the rpms would lower significantly. several months later consumer started the vehicle and heard a discouraging sound. engine sounded as if there was a hand full of tacks being grounded up. dealer examined the vehicle, and informed the consumer that the timing chain snapped, and the engine needed to be replaced. *ak the manufacturer refused to pay for the repairs although the vehicle has an extended warranty. the consumer didn't have the $5900. to repair the vehicle so they traded it in. *nm

While driving at 55 mph plastic molding under the windshield wipers came off. this molding struck the windshield, went over the vehicle and struk a vehicle behind the consumer's vehicle. *ak the consumer indicated that there was no warning that this was going to happen. *nm

I had owned my 2000 chrysler concorde for approximatly three years when the engine failed. there was little if any warning of the failure in the way of dashboard indicators, etc. when driving, the engine stalled and would not start again. the servicing mechanic advised that a sludge build-up in the oil reserve had caused a failure of the engine to such an extent that the engine had to be replaced. after i investigated further, i've seen other such complaints about the 2.7 liter engine that i had replaced. many of the complaints point to a too-narrow oil distribution system in the engine, that leads to premature failure. i believe the engine is of faulty design, and is unfit for distribution.*ak

Engine filled with sludge, causing the engine to fail completely. it was diagnosed as the pistons going through the valves. also, vehicle was hit in the rear, causing the front seats to break off the floor. the entire track assembly had to be replaced along with the motors underneath. *ak

On july 3,2003 i took my car in for service and told them it was leaking. the car leaks at all doors and in the trunk. also the trim around the headlights is coming out. i was told that there would be a charge of $134.49 for the headlight trim repair and $201.17 for the new door gaskets. the trunk i was not given an estimate on because they said the water doctor would need to repair that. i told them that i felt that the car was defective and i should not have to pay for any repairs. i was called back a week later and was told that the manufacturer would pay 1/3 of the cost of the repair, the service dept. would pay 1/3 of the cost and i would be required to pay the remaining 1/3. i am not happy with this arrangment as i know this a defect in the car.

Owner was driving about 20-30 mph. when making a turn, vehicle completely shut down loosing all power. vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. the problem was undetermined, at this time. *nm it was later determined that the engine failed due to sludge build up. the engine light did not illuminate to indicate any type of failure. the technician said that many 2.7 liter engines have this problem. *nm

At 85,000 miles my engine in which i have done my oil changes, had sludge in it, now after 90,000 the engine knocks real bad and must be replaced, the dealer told me that my personal extended warrenty will not cover it because of the crap in the engine, which they said i caused it because i did not do my oil changes and i did. *ak

Chassis integrity. the chassis mounts deteriotion in less than four years resulted in the struts malfunctioning, the transmission coolant lines leaking to the extent that the transmission could not be powered while driving on an interstate highway. *ak

Automatic door locks do not operate properly. when unlock lever is used, the locks do not unlock and the individual unlock buttom on each door must be pulled up. however, you cannot pull up these buttoms until the automatic unlock lever is first activated.this represents a safety hazzard because the rear doors cannot be opened by someone seated in the rear seats unless someone pushes the automatic unlock lever located on the front two doors. in addition, the front driver's door lock cannot be locked until the automatic door locking lever is first pushed to lock and then the door button must be pushed down manually. failure to follow these steps would enable an intruder to open the door from the outside.

A long piece of plastic is located between the windshield and the hood. when wind gets under the plastic at high speeds it can fly off and cause an accident. consumer feels this piece of plastic should be mounted tighter.*ak

The engine developed serious varnishing at top of engine after coolant was changed at 30,000 miles. engine totally failed at 60,000 due to varnish and sludge build up. this well maintained chrysler 2.7 liter v6 failed at an alarming rate. the technical service bulletin 07-002-02 was issued by chrysler regarding coolant servicing. they tell me coolant had nothing to do with varnish and sludge and they refused any help or assistance. repair is estimated over $6,000. *jb
