2000 CHEVROLET Blazer

We bought Blazer used with 30,000 miles on it. At about 40,000 the right wheel bearing was making noise and was replaced by selling dealer who laughed when I brought up the problem. One of the two owner brothers in Service explained that the wheel bearings that Chevy supplies wear out so frequently they keep a large supply of them on hand. They can wear out in 1,000 miles or 100,000 miles. The dealer has repeatedly complained to the Chevy company rep for this area; the rep wont even acknowledge the fact that they said something about wheel bearings.
At about 45,000 miles the left front wheel bearing made noise and was replaced. The dealer said the right one was making noise so they replaced it. So, that’s two on the right and one on the left within 15,000 miles.
Next, I was parked with the engine running and saw that the fuel gauge was swinging across the full face of the dial. When I mentioned this to the dealer, they laughed some more stating that they’re all going due to sending unit failures: something about resistive elements dissolving in the fuel tank. This has not yet been replaced.
I’m told these two very common recurring problems affect all recent year Blazers.

My vehicle has been seen at GM dealers (over 3-4 months at a time) with a Service Engine Soon code reading multi-cylinder misfire. The dealerships have been unable to determine the cause. My vehicle suffers from a loss of power when trying to accelerate. The engine bogs down the RPM race way up and it loses power. I have almost been hit trying to enter off a freeway ramp as everyone is traveling 65+ mph…my vehicle cannot gain speed quickly. It has become a safety hazard. I currently have the vehicle in a non-dealer shop again to see if they can determine what is going on. I have had numerous items replaced hoping to get the SES light to remain off – but each time the computer throws the same code. Help is truly needed.

There was no warning, No lights came on at all. Got up to go to work started my blazer then BANG blown motor. No I have to listen to my husband about how they suck! I loved my blazer.

Within 2 months of purchase, the brakes went out, the rotors were peeling like hungry man biscuits, replacement of all 4 rotors and shoes were done, ABS still not working. Local Chevy dealer unsure of problem. Check engine light continues on, Chevy dealer does not know why. Now at 7 1/2 months of ownership, torque converter is "coming apart" according to AAMCO. It has a terrible whin and we are having it looked at by a local transmision shop today (8/26/03). I feel that the dealership that sold me this SUV, I am the second owner, should have noticed some of this happening or starting to happen at the time of purchase.

We have had numerous problems with our blazer. For starters the fuel gauge doesn\’t work. It just went out at about 50,000 miles. We had to have the cooler lines replaced that cost us 300.00 which was also a manufacture defect from GM. (The mechanic told us that) Because of the way the cooler lines were routed it caused them to rot quicker from the heat. That was at 42,000 miles. Both the seat adjustment leavers broke off on the front seats. We cannot recline the seats backwards now. The wheel bearings became loose at an abnormally early stage of the the front wheels. Not sure of the mileage but warranty covered it.

Transmission went out at 112,000 seems to be doing fine after rebuilding.The wheel bearings are going out like crazy: replaced right side at 55,000 left side at 75,000 now the right side is going bad again.Driver side door actually almost fell off and passenger side door is beginning to do the same thing.Fuel gauge doesn\’t read very well at all, back and forth will only slam to empty when I have about a half a gallon left.Oil cooler lines leaking.Back windshield washer never worked.

Service engine soon light stays on and idles rough sometimes won’t start.fuel guage swings back and forth not registering the gas level.Goes from empty to full.

Secondary air injection system failed. Hot exhaust gasses leaked past air check valves and caused rubber elbow to melt which allowed hot exhaust gasses to burn the main wiring harness. Which caused all electrical systems to fail. We need to get more people informed. This failure has happened to almost all vehicles equipped with this secondary air injection pump!!

Numerous electrical problems and or failures, bad fuel and exhaust problems, suspension pops excessively, gas pedal sticks intermittently, radio replaced twice, electric seats and windows malfunction

In the summer of 2003 we started noticing what appeared to be small cracks in the paint on the hood of our Blazer. Upon closer inspection, we also found these cracks on the roof as well. We took it to a local dealership in August and the service writer and manager both agreed that there was a problem and that the manager would have to contact his supervisor to proceed. He took my name and number and said he would call me. Shortly thereafter, my father in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer which put the paint problem on the back burner for us. We never did receive a call from the service manager. In July 2004, we were once again able to focus on the Blazer and my wife took it to a second local dealership since we had never heard from the first. The service manager here would not say anything other than to acknowledge that the paint was cracking and that the Blazer was out of warranty. We contacted Chevrolet customer service and were told to return the truck to the dealer and have it “diagnosed” The dealership said that they could not diagnose the problem. That it would involve taking paint samples and having them analyzed in a laboratory. After two attempts at having them diagnose the paint, we took it to a reputable local body shop and were told that the primer was defective. We called Chevrolet again to tell them of the diagnosis and found that our caseworker no longer worked there. We were also told that her replacement was no longer there after leaving several messages on her voicemail. The woman who we finally talked to said bluntly that Chevrolet would not offer any assistance in getting the vehicle repainted and that the only thing that they could do was offer us a one thousand dollar voucher towards the purchase of a new GM vehicle. This is my third new GM product that I have had a paint problem with and I do not plan to buy another in the future.

In January of 2004 the transmission failed for the first time. It was replaced and supposedly fixed. A few months later transmission fluid began leaking. It was again fixed according to the service department. In June of 2004 the transmission failed again. It has been at the dealership (Dan Perkins of Milford, CT) for 2 weeks and they have not begun working on the problem. I do have an extended warranty which covered most of the first transmission replacement. I have contacted Chevy, GM, and the dealership. All three have refused to buy back the vehicle. I have asked for my loan balance only. I have not asked for any other form of compensation for the problems. I believe that 3 transmission problems within 6 months is too many and no longer view the car as safe or reliable for my family to use. When purchased the vehicle had 38,000 miles on it. Right now it only has 53,000 miles on it.

I took my year 2000 chevrolet blazer into gleason chevrolet in forest park illinois to service an inoperable horn. i was told that the front air bag module needed to be replaced in order for the horn to be repaired. (the extended warranty will not cover the cost of repairs.) i now am concerned that i have two safety issues. 1.) the horn does not work. 2.) apparently, the air bag module is defective. gm will not cover the cost of repairs.*jb

The adjustable pedestal on the seat base occasionally collapses when it is subjected to high temperatures. *mr including the interior of the vehicle in the summertime. the plastic would become very pliable also when pressing the base into the seat during installation, the adjustment notches slipped. *scc

Relay for 4 way flashers is clicking, online my problem with flasher relay and brake lights is listed under recall 01073b. i have no idea if this recall was done, done properly or just timed out.

Consumer states that when starting up the vehicle and no warning the battery will be dead and the brake lights will not work. dealer notified ts

While driving vehicle has been hit in the back 3 times due to having no brakes light because of a faulty brake switch, they were un aware that they didn't have brakes lights.

Consumer was told by another driver driving behind her that brake lights were out. she went to mechanic and had them checked, and was told that it was the brake switch. *ak

Engine stalled while driving, dealer determined fuel gauge was broken, mastercard was replaced.*ak consumer stated the gas gauge read ? of a tank, dealer found broken fuel card and replaced the card, parking brake hose broke of and drum was rusty causing parking brake to hang up, dealer replaced damaged shoes and rusted drums, brake lights and lights intermittently inoperative, while braking and turning to the right vehicle is making grinding noise from front, dealer replaced left hub, while driving brakes make noise, dealer found rotors out of round, wipers will intermittently not work, and also there was a burning smell coming from fuse area, driver side seat would not lock into place and the recliner broke, drivers side door panel was loose, dealer replaced side door panel and drivers window was loose and rattling, molding was also rattling. *yd

Tried putting gas in my vehicle and it wouldnt ump much ran back into gas station to get back the money i didnt pump and when i came back out my gas was on the ground. stationary at the gas pump

When braking the abs brake system locks. it locks up into a limited slip mode while braking at a normal stop. it does not brake correctly. it pumps badly while attempting to stop. this happens multiple time a day when driving. have to break way before needing to because it will slip. typically happens in parking lots and regular streets when using breaks. in motion. this has been happening since march 2020.

It started with my gauges bouncing all over going on and off , then it felt like the brakes were on and i had to give it alot of gas to get going.now the dash will work when i turn the key on but as soon as it starts it goes out with the exception of the oil pressure and the charging gauge. the transmission isnt working right at all and i dont dare drive it anywhere. the fuse box under the hood does not test right, only about half of it has power and i am at a loss there! there has been electrical probnlems with it ever since i bought it.

I have replaced the hub assembly, idler arm, & wheel bearings on both driver & passenger side of my vehicle. when i drive over 45 mph my car makes an awful sound & no matter what i change or have fixed the parking brake/abs lights stay on. ive had many mechanics look at & say they’ve fixed the issue but none have actually fixed it. i was driving 70mph on the highway & my brakes felt as if they were locking up.

Steering column had smoke coming out of it a week ago. i'm constantly hearing the blinkers even when they're not in use, for the past few months now. this happens anytime the car is running, whether it's moving or stopped. problem with constant blinker sound started the first of april, and has continued ever since. *tr

Driver may have swerved to avoid an animal (deer) on dark country road. vehicle rolled over ejecting the driver. death was instant. the drivers door came off hinges and locks. see photos. airbag did not deploy. no other vehicle involved.

Fuel sensor problem that's been going on with a lot of 2000 chevy blazer also trail blazers and also the distributor there is no seal under the distributor cap cause it to have moisture and cause it not to run and you have to replace it this is to the company or whoever's in charge now the fuel system itself is called a spider sense or what i call it not to run it all the time they must be some type of filter besides the one on side of the vehicle itself because they go out within a year or maybe two years or so this must be addressed so hopefully i get some information to help fix the vehicle that i don't think you i hope i could get some information about it because the fule sensor is a big deal wen they last for about a year and then to buy one for about 400 dollars and then pay another 1000 dollars for labor i think that the injection for the fule sensor should be addressed hopefully have a re call thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you can help god bless

Both passenger side front and driver's side front seatbelts are toren over 3/4 threw the beltthat crosses chest approximately at breast height( half way up from buckle) also prior signs of other repairs to seatbelt straps. i purchased it this way, so unknown cause.

Driver lost control of the vehicle striking another and died on 12/29/14. driver was 23 years old. the airbags failed to deploy as in ignition defect switch cases which may be the case with this vehicle and should be investigated. the seatbelt was also defective and inoperable, thus not worn at the time of death.

Vehicle has 121,000 miles on it..never towed anything with it...transmission will shift low 1,then low 2,when it hits 3rd it lets go and vehicle wont shift into 3rd or drive....vehicle has only 1st. 2nd and reverse...when i go on the net or on craigs list im finding almost all chevy blazers for 2000 have transmission problems....this is rediculus...121,000 mile is very low mileage and almost all 2000 chevy blazers ive read for sale have under 200,000 miles and the transmissions are toasted....this is not right...chevy knows there was a problem with the transmissions in these trucks...if you dont believe me talk to a trnsmission repair garage and ask specificly about the chevy blazer transmissions...it will shock you...i want my transmission fixed...i cant afford 1200 bucks for a rebuilt transmission

A chunk of approximately 2-3" blew out of the sidewall of the rear passenger tire. my daughter was driving, and she lost control after the tire blew and hit a tree head on at 45 mph. the vehicle was totaled and my daughter has multiple injuries, including a fractured kneecap, sprained jaw, disc protrusions at c6/c7 and l5/s1. she is having headaches and facial pain and a brain mri was performed yesterday. we'll have those results sometime next week. the tire was purchased in october 2013, was 20% worn and had no signs of inflation problems or signs of anything striking the tire. it was a goodyear tire. *tr

My blinkers started blinking real fast and i couldn't figure out why. i asked my brother and he told me i had a light out somewhere, so he helped me locate it. it was my blinker on the driver side back. i replaced it and a few months later it happened again. i replaced it again. all this happened in 2013. in the summer of 2014 it happened again with the same light. i replaced it again. i was watching good morning america this morning and seen where they were investigating safe cars at used car dealers. it gave a web site to look and see if your vehicle has any recalls. i looked and it showed mine had 4. i called the number it gave and the lady told me mine had none with the vin # i gave her. why then am i having problems with this one light? *tr

I was driving yesterday when i smelled something burning. i looked and noticed my rear window was glowing orange and then the rear window exploded! *tr

Ever since i own this vehicle, the ignition switch does not lock. therefore it is possible to leave the truck and not know the ignition switch is still in the on position. also, the gas gauge bounces all over the place and i have to use the trip to know when i need gas. this has also been a problem since i own the truck. occasionally, the low fuel light comes on (i know i have fuel) and the truck starts acting like it's low on gas. *tr

Had a front end collision. the front end was destroyed. no air bags went off. both vehicles came off a red light, all vehicles stopped suddenly and my teuck rear ended a toyota pickup. *tr

Gas gage bounces around and fuel light comes on even when i know the car has a full tank. i have to track mileage every time i put gas in the car. i also have a problem with fuel pump not getting power and r i have replaced the fuel pump 3 times and it will have the same problem days to wks after replacing the fuel pump. i have searched on google and their are many people having this same issue. i have taken it to 3 different shops and no one can figure it out i am very frustrated. their is code that shows up when tested. the car has broke down many times with my daughter in it. i never know if i turn the car off if it will start back up. at times in the morning it wont start at all and my daughter is late to school due to the car not starting and having to find her a ride. for the past 4 days the car will not start at all. their is no power getting to the fuel pump. i am so frustrated!! *js

I've owned this vehicle for one year. i am having trouble with the brake light constantly coming on, even driving down the road it comes on. had the brakes replaced and fluid is good but it constantly comes on. at the same time i had my mechanic look because on occasion when it's put into park, it shuts itself off. *tr

Evenflo express vision/ chase traditions forward facing booster with 5-pt harness. the problem occurs every time my child has been strapped into the seat,. the problem is that the right shoulder strap is overlapped on itself to secure it at a permanent length (making two straps on the r shoulder) and allow for the placement of the harness adjusted., the one strap that is not secured by the chest clip easily slides on and off of the children's shoulder.. i have tried everything to get this to work but when she moves just a little bit it falls right off of her shoulder. i have tightened it as tight as i can and it still seems to fall right off. i have also had it installed when i bought it and they had a hard time even getting it on and staying in place. they thought it was weird. i do worry this is not safe for anychild, please fix this issue with a new harness please. tighten it from the front bottom would be so much easier. i i bought this booster child restraint on september 14,2013 from an agency here in klamath falls oregon.thank you.... the model number of my seat is 32921122 and the manufacture date is 06/03/2011.

Fortunately, i had just gotten off the freeway and was looking for an address at a slow speed. all of a sudden the car lurched; i had no steering; i lost all electrical control; the car ground to a halt; smoke came out from under the hood. i and a friend got out of the car. fortuitously, fire trucks appeared. it turned out they were returning from another incident as i could not believe the immediacy of their response. they took over preventing further aggravation of this situation. the battery was boiling. all the electrical wire harnesses were melted. the upper suspension control arm was broken. the firemen's observation was, if i had been going any faster, the car could have flipped. after being towed to a nearby mechanic, i learned the upper control arm had broken. it impailed the starter which shorted. that melted the wiring harnesses to and from the battery, as well as being the cause of the battery boiling. the key issue is that general motors would build a vehicle where the upper control arm is so flimsy it would break. i have read other incidents of the same thing with the chevrolet blazer where, for example, a person was going 30mph, the car flipped, and the person was knocked unconscious. a repeated corporate failure of this nature should have consequences. *tr

Noise from engine. diagnosed as ball joints need replacing or wheels will fall off. replaced upper and lower ball joints and idler arm for about 1200.00. now(june 19, 2012) at 100,000 miles, same noise coming from engine compartment. looks like another ball joint replacement. *js

2000 chevrolet blazer 4x4, was parked for three weeks in a driveway of a house during vacation trip. upon driving the vehicle upon vacation return it was found that the firestone firehawk 500 235/70r15 right front tire had belt separation causing major vibration, steering difficulty and required tire replacement. three other firestone firehawk 500 tires on the vehicle do not indicate any defect upon visual inspection. firestone recommends replacement of all tires due to age, dot 3303. tread remaining on tires is 3/32" or more. *tr

The abs gradually came on. when applying the brakes, the wheels lock up and the blazer skids about a foot. i have had numerous near accidents because of the abs. i took the blazer into the chevrolet dealership and they ran the vin. i was told that there are no recalls for my blazer. however, according to the nhtsa website, there are two recalls (00v055000 & 99v220000). i would like to know whether or not there are any recalls. *tr

The driverside air bag went off when the vehicle was parked in my garage. i started the vehicle and left the door open, i then went to take the garbage out to end of my driveway. as i was walking back to my garage i heard a loud noise. i noticed the air bag had been deployed when i reached my vehicle. the vehicle was still running and i didn't notice anything else wrong. i drove the vehicle to work and i rolled down the window to air out the vehicle. about 5 minutes later the windows wouldn't work. i changed the fuse but that didn't solve the window problem. that would have been bad if the air bag deployed when i was driving. *tr

The anti-lock brakes on this vehicle have been malfunctioning for at least a year. the pump will surge at low speeds and if i am in a turn it will affect the steering. the left front wheel will lock up.

Always smell fuel while driving replaced all fuel systems then all sensors needed replacing so i did that and now there telling me i have a electric problems since buying this vehicle new i put over 6000.00 dollars into and i still have all the same problems mostly with the fuel system i still smell alot of fuel when driving and back firing and shutting off in the middle of driving i have all my receipts from work done on the whole fuel system and i've looked up this kind of blazer and everyone who owned one has the same problems. *tr

The fuel gauge does not work. it will go to full when the fuel tank is filled but when it gets to approximately half empty, it fluctuates and the gauge never moves half. this has caused the vehicle to run out of fuel several times.

2000 blazer ran out of gas on the highway. the fuel gauge was on full. this was at 9pm at night. *tr

We have a 2000 chevy blazer vin [xxx]. since ownership the vehicle has been expected. my sister has complained numerous times about issues with rattles, squeaks and body issues. we have noticed early in the vehicles life the amount of rust this blazer has on the underbody. this has been the issue of some of the noises. recently, she complained again of a suspension noise while stopping, turning or hitting ruts or holes in the road. i inspected and lubricated problematic points that we addressed in the past. the noise would come and go. finally, she mentioned a feel of control loss while braking and making turns and the noise. she mentioned the noise was so loud people would stare or turn heads. upon my inspection i was shocked and never have seen this problem on any vehicle. the rear shackles that hold the rear leaf spring to the frame had completely rusted through. thus allowing the leaf spring to float freely on the frame rail in rear. this shackle allows the leaf spring to move forward and backward during suspension flex. in addition, this stabilizes the rear end and keeps everything in place-consult a mechanic for specific function. i have dealt with many cars in my life as well as trucks. never, have i seen this rust issue in any vehicle-chevy to note as well. i am demanding a response to this problem and i will further contact traffic safety about this issue. i'm sorry, but this is a serious issue at hand. this blazer has around 73000 miles and from the outside paint and interior looks in excellent condition. however, when looking at the underside carriage, engine compartment and the integrity of the door hinges (especially drivers door) it is a mess. i am expecting a reasonable explanation on this issue and appreciate your input. *** this is the same letter i sent to gm. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Front end is junk,the smell of raw gas when fueling up and replaced oil line, steering parts, door pin, back light, right hub, before service warranty was up. then of coarse the, rotors went along with the left hub and heater core went,.. the blazer has been a lemon since i bought it new. cried alot.. i just turned the 100,000 on 7/15/10 couldn't go anywhere cause it was in the shop being fixed... lemon so much for buying new. *tr

My 2000 blazer ls 2dr 4x4 has ipc problems. the ipc lights have gone out and do not illuminate the gauges, this is a safety hazard when driving. the abs and parking brake indicator lights go on and off. the parking brake sticks and wont release. due to the number of complaints, recalls, and service bulletins issued on these safety problems i think more should be done to hold the manufacturer responsible for repairing these defects. the first 11 digits of my vin match at least 2 other vehicles first 11 digits and yet chevy doesn't feel they should fix the issue with all blazers. i am concerned with the safety of my vehicle. *tr

11/18/2009: smoke was coming from the steering column. spoke with a family member who works as a technician for pep boys. he believed the cause to be the multifunction switch. 11/20/2009: brake lights would not turn off even when the vehicle was turned off. they stayed on until they completely drained my battery. looked up recalls and found there was a recall on the multifunction switch: nhtsa action number: rq08001. 11/21/2009: called the gm number listed on the nhtsa recall form to ask for assistance with the cost of replacing the part. was refused assistance and given the following reasons: my particular vin was not one included in the recall. i didn't purchase my vehicle from a gm dealer. i purchased my vehicle used (there was only one previous owner). my vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it. i don't have a (proven) history of being a loyal gm owner. i don't have my repairs done at a gm dealer. the estimated cost of the multifunction switch itself is $200. that does not include labor. the repair needs to be done immediately as the vehicle is unable to be driven as is. *tr

I stopped at a traffic light and was hit in the rear by the vehicle behind, driving my vehicle into the vehicle in front of me. i was given a traffic ticket and my vehicle sustained damage to front and rear. the driver behind me stated that my vehicle did not have brake lights. which was confirmed by the officer. the diagnosis by the dealership was that the multifunction switch in the steering column was broken. this was done on nov. 10, 2009 as i have been unable to get the vehicle there due to legal problems. i did however call gm soon after the incident and try to resolve the problem at that time . the chevy dealership contacted gm for possible repair. it was noted by the dealership that the switch was replaced under recall in 2002. the gm customer service reps are trying to deny repairing again saying that they are not responsible twice. this part was replaced with another bad part that failed like the first original part. they should be required to replace the defective part with a reliable new design or be required to replace it again if it fails again. *tr

2000 chevy blazer - abs system activates at low speed. has to drive into a ditch to avoid hitting a bicycler. repair shop said wheel speed sensors are probably corroded. gm has a recall in 2005 on large suvs but not the blazer, although it's the same sensor. *tr

I have a 2000 chevy blazer door have a problem with the door hinge where its to weak to handle the weight door i now have cracks in the metal at the striker plate and fear the door will rip the striker plate off i have found out that this is common and fear that thedoor will come open on its own i had called gm about this and they say its not a safety thing. *tr

I have a 2000 blazer lt with 128,000 miles that has had heating/cooling system problems for several years. had dex-cool in system which i monitored regularly to make sure has topped up. gm states dex-cool is maint free to 155,000 miles. when vehicle reached 100,000 miles, i began to loose heat. i noticed a crystal-like residue floating in coolant. drained, back flushed heater core and flushed system 3 times then added prestone (green) coolant. after about 10,000 miles began to loose heat again, repeated flush and fill. every year since, when colder weather sets in, the same problem shows up and i go through the same flush and fill procedure. dex-cool has left so much sludge throughout the system i can't get it all out and it continues to plug the system. i have replaced two water pumps, three thermostats and have spent hundreds of dollars just doing flush and fills. engine temp will be good for the first few weeks after a f & f then begins to run hot again with the smell of coolant in and around the vehicle. there are no visible leaks on the ground or on the block. all engine vacuums check ok. all other regular maint done when required. last f & f done 08-30-2009 and vehicle is starting to run hot already/again. *tr

Abs engages at very low speeds on dry pavement. brakes slip causing longer braking/stopping distance. abs light comes on briefly after the event takes place. this presents for dangerous road conditions, especially in town/city environment where often instantaneous braking decisions occur (children playing, animals crossing, etc.). *tr

Go to vehicle, try to start, "security" lamp begins to flash. no start issue. have to wait for 10 minutes and try again, about 50% of the time is starts, other 50% you have to wait another 10 minutes and try again.... gm passlock system issue. is it the ignition, the bcm, the ecm....? *tr

2000 chevy blazer has abs light come on. when this occurs the brakes do not work. it does not matter if the speed is extremely low-or going 55mph-65mph depending on posted speed limit. if you barely touch them it slips/does not grab. if you try to pump the brake pedal it goes to the floor two or three times before catching. you can hear a noise before the abs light comes on-you can feel the brake pedal get tight and then real loose before light comes on. the light does not stay on, nor do you have a warning about it coming on. i just had new brake pads and rotors put on- the brakes should be better than new- however, does'nt matter if they are being told by a sensor or other computer chip/light that they don't work! i've been told it is the abs brake motor valve body assembly part, that is malfunctioning. please investigate before somebody gets hurt or dies. there is also another woman at my work who has the same vehicle and has the same problem on occassion, they have spent days trying to identify the problem. *tr

Occasionally the front wipers on my 2000 chevy blazer would stop working for no reason at all and eventually after a few minutes would kick back on, but as of yesterday dec 21 2008 they will not come back on. i was informed that this is probably due to a bad wiper circuit board. this same problem occurred and had a recall for a 1997 chevy s10 pickup. and guess what??? they use the same part number. however chevy will not replace the wiper circuit board on my vehicle because there was never a recall on my specific vehicle model/year. if it is the same part and i am having the same problem this should be replaced by the manufacturer. now out of pocket i am looking at $150 or a little more depending on what parts store i can find this circuit board at. i called several dealerships and the chevy 1-800#. to me this is unacceptable, if it is the same part number that had a problem in a previous vehicle then it should be covered under the recall notice. *tr

On 6/4/2008 i purchased four tires from walmart in yuma, az they were douglas tires 205/75r15bwx-trac ii. walmart installed/mounted and balanced the tires. 5 month's and less then 5000 miles later on 11/7/08 my wife called me to say that a tire was flat when i got there to look at the tire i found that the tire had ripped in six different places from the rim to the tread all the way through. i then looked at the other tires to find that they had indented/impressions in the same pattern around the tire as if starting to crack through like the other one did. also i was having difficultly keeping the proper psi level in them my vehicle manufacture recommends 35psi, but for some reason these tires will leak out to 20 psi i had to put air in them every month to keep them at the proper level. i went back to walmart the next day on 11/8/2008 after arguing with them they finally replaced all four tires but they used the same brand, and now a month later i'm starting to see the same pattern of indent's/ impressions in the side wall and these tires to leak air as bad as the last set of douglas tires the replacement tires walmart installed are 205/75r15bwx-t. i believe that this brand name has defective tires and this needs to be looked into. i also have pictures of the tires that ripped if i can i will add them to the report but if not just request them from me and i will send them via email. thank you. *tr

Ball joints this vehicle has failed massachusetts yearly inspection 2 years in a row due to sloppy ball joints. if the vehicle was not inspected the result could be rather hazardous to me and people on the highway. *tr

Fuel gage switches between full to empty all the time. when the car is at stop and running, to driving down the road. you never really know how much gas you really have. i have taken to writing down the mileage every time i fill up. *tr

Fuel gauge fluctuates wildly between full and empty when tank is less than half full. if you look it up the gmc jimmy which uses the same fuel system has the same customer complaints. you never know how much gas you have in the tank. this caused me to run out of gas on a interstate highway in the middle of rush hour and i was unable to pull over to the side because of traffic. luckily no one ran into me, but it did create a bad traffic problem. gm refuses to admit this a problem but the mechanics i've talked to say this is a problem they have to repair all the time. this vehicle should be recalled before someone gets injured or killed. *tr

Vehicle is exhibiting problems with brake lights and hazard flashers, consistent with recall 01073. these issued have been intermittent, but in the past month have become constant. chevrolet customer service has stated that this recall service was performed in 2002. this issue with lights has occurred since 2007, contact with chevy has been off and on since that point. contacted chevy today 9/15/2008 because multi-function switch has now started to smoke when turn signals are used. this is obviously coming from the mfc which was supposedly repaired in 2002. chevy has stated that recalls are a one-time fix and any further issues at any point is the liability of the customer. they are unwilling to provide any support for a resolution of a recall repair with was performed only 6 years ago. if this issue is unrelated to the 01073 recall, i am willing to pay for repairs out of my pocket, but i want chevy to initiate the diagnosis, instead they are telling me that they will provide no financial support whatsoever to even determine the cause of this error. i have stressed the importance of operating a vehicle with all safety features intact, and it is obvious that the same problem that 01073 addressed has recurred. i would like chevy to bear the costs of diagnosis, and costs of parts and labor for all repairs required to remedy the malfunctions relating to the hazard switch and/or mfc (multi-function turn signal switch). *tr

The abs module went bad. symptoms were anti-lock brakes activating at low speeds and vehicle not stopping. you push the brakes and the pedal pushed back at you. this is a very common problem for these vehicles. i had to remove the abs fuse because it was safer to have not have abs than to apply brakes and not being able to stop. the part is also unavailable from aftermarket stores, dealer only item at $500 a piece. this is extremely dangerous and should be investigated. *tr

I have a 2000 blazer and i have been having problems with the fuel gauge for the last 6 months. it fluctuates between full & empty constantly. once it hits a half tank, it stops keeping track of how much gas is in the tank. haven't had it fixed yet. seen too many complaints now, gm should replace for free. *tr

At 90,000 miles my fuel gage became erratic, chevy dealer says it's the fuel pump. at a cost of $800.00 to fix i'll calculate my mileage and live with out it. gm taking low bid on the fuel pump means i no longer buy gm products. fix mine at no cost and you got me back.............maybe! *tr

I was returning from beaufort, sc with my niece's 1 yr and 2 yr old children. my niece is in the military and i was bringing the kids back to stay with my sister, their grandmother, for a month. outside of atlanta on i75 at 1:00 am i heard a huge bang and the front right of my car flew into the air. i had another niece, who was 3 months pregnant, with me who was riding in the front seat. when the car flew up she flew up and hit the roof of the car. luckily she had her seat belt on or she might have broken her neck. my niece saw that i was trying to get control of the car and looked out the window to see if any vehicles were near so we could get to the side of the road. no vehicles were around so we made it to the side of the road. my niece walked back down the highway to see if she could find what we had ran over. when an officer came to help change the tire to the spare he showed me it was not a flat tire but that my rim had exploded. the officer changed the tire, followed us to make sure the car was drivable then left us to drive back to champaign, il. the exploding rim caused the radiator rack, right headlight assembly, rim, tire, to be fixed. then the car had to be aligned. luckily my insurance company safeco, paid for everything but my $500 deductible. i still have the rim sitting in my kitchen in case anyone wanted to examine it. *tr

I have a 2000 chevrolet blazer and around a year and a half ago my drivers side door started having problems with closing it. i took it to a repair shop and they said door was too heavy and the bushings needed to be replaced and repair the striker plate. that cost was $175 and shortly after the door started slipping down again. now the passengers side is doing the same thing, i can close it but cannot use it. i have a son that i do not feel safe letting him sit in the front with me because after driving and going over bumps it gets jarred and starts coming open. this is a very unsafe issue and until now i did not know who to complain to. i also have never received a recall letter for any of the listed recall problems such as seat belts. i really would like a response to this complaint because this is a very serious issue. *tr

Both front seats the recliner assembly has broken off in spring of 2006. currently not repaired. now in february of 2008 the heater core has gone bad for the second time. first replaced in summer 2005 and currently about to be replaced again. *tr

Driving from south carolina to illinois, the aluminum rim on the front passenger side exploded outside of atlanta, ga on i 75. i had my 1 yr. old great nephew, 2 yr old great niece and 24 yr old niece who is 4 months pregnant in the car. no one was seriously hurt because we were all wearing seatbelts and the babies were in car seats but extensive damage was done to the vehicle. i have contacted chevrolet about the rim but have heard nothing back from the company. *tr

I bought a 2000 blazer in 2002. i took my vehicle overseas in 2003. much to my surprise, the gas gauge stopped working properly one day in 2004 causing me to run out of gas on a major international interstate. i took it to the dealership when i came back to the states only to be told, that something was wrong with the fuel pump. not only that, the module also has to be replaced because the fuel pump and module comes as a unit and you cannot replace the fuel pump without replacing the module. i am being told i have to pay $950 to have this problem fixed. i know i am not the only one with a blazer who is having this problem. gm has failed time and time again to acknowledge this as a manufacturer problem and people are losing money because of it. if i have to pay $950 out of my pocket to fix this problem, this will be one unhappy, loyal customer gm has lost because i will make sure that no one i know ever purchases a gm vehicle again. *tr

See nhtsa item# 623034. security lamp illuminates while driving and then the associated "passlock" security system either stalls out my engine while driving or causes a shut-down of my vehicle whereby the engine will not start for at least 10 minutes. this has happened late at night, at intersections, gas stations, etc. the amount of times i have had to wait for this security system to "reset" has become frustrating. i have done extensive research on this via respectable online forums, and there are many owners not just of the 2000 chevrolet blazer but of a number of vehicles in the entire gm family who have this same problem. we are all crying out for a recognition of this being a safety issue, not just an issue of inconvenience. failure to start and stalling are symptoms that are only going to lead in one direction. there are literally hundreds of posts on this issue if one goes to an online forum and searches under the terms "security light" or "passlock" within the gm context. i have been to my dealer numerous times, have attempted to work with chevrolet, and nothing seems to be getting resolved. i am under the impression that a mechanical solution to this problem does not exist, short of disabling the system altogether (which dealers are not allowed to do). i would welcome any further contact from nhtsa regarding this matter and would gladly go to the expense of photocopying and sending the binder of materials i have collected on this subject. if it will make a difference in preventing a future injury or death (if any have not already occurred), i am all for it. thank you for your time and efforts on behalf of auto safety. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet blazer. the contact stated that the two rear brake lights above the hitch fail to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. the dealer stated that the brake lights were already repaired according to the mechanic's records. she stated that her vehicle is under recall number 01v364000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch), but the dealer will not repair the vehicle for free since it was already performed. the current and failure mileages were 134,000. updated 02/01/08. *lj the drive belt and power steering pump.

2000 blazer transmission failed, cost $3000 to repair. left ball joint failed and replaced all $500, pitman arm, idler arm, tie rods right and left needed replacement. left front wheel bearing hub failed and was replaced, both $800. overheating due to dexcool leak at intake needed replacement. i have a $20,000 piece of junk sitting in my driveway.this was ongoing from earlier year models but no recalls for this year ,why no body died ? fuel gauge bounced. *ak

I parked vehicle after driving approximately 45 minutes on a highway. began return trip approximately 1 hour later and abs light came on. upon entering the highway the abs light went out and the engine began to rev and wouldn't shift into high gear. was able to use local access roads to get home. problem diagnosed by an independent garage and corroborated by transmission repair center as transmission failure. no apparent problem with the abs. vehicle has 20,235 miles on it, and we were the original owners. vehicle has never been taken off the road, has never towed anything, and has probably only been put into 4-wd 20 times. complete transmission rebuild required at a cost to us of $2,000.*ak

On both front seats,the handles to adjust the upright position have broken completely off of the seats.

The handle that allows you to recline the seat broke off flushed with the seat, this happened to both the driver and passenger seats in june 2005. the hood will not pop up when the lever was pulled until one banged on the grill or the hood in certain spots, which just started in march of 2007. the gas mileage dropped from 20 mpg to 16 mpg within 6 months. the back glass stuck and was hard to open, started in 2006. when turning on the air conditioner (a/c ) the car had no power, i have to turn it off when accelerating on the interstate or on hills. if the cruise control was set it kicked off when the a/c was on. when i needed to stop quickly the brakes failed, and felt a grinding sensation through the pedal, but the mechanic changed the brakes and checked the rotors, but hasn't found any problem. suspected a defect somewhere in the brake system\ as of 2005. the fan kicked on all the time, even when the engine was cold, and in winter when first starting. one mechanic told me that in many blazers the catalytic converter broke off in the muffler, which had to be replaced. had been told this happened so much that most people left them off. too many other problems to mentioned. also, the horn worked only when it wanted to, problem in the steering wheel. *ak

I bought the 2000 blazer used just over a year ago and have had nothing but problems. to begin, i replaced the alternator, fuel pump, and virtually all suspension components in the front end with just over 65,000 miles. on vacation during one of the hottest days of the year traveling home the blazer over heated and left my family and i stranded on a major interstate with no a/c for nearly an hour before getting towed to the worst chevrolet dealer in the country(richmond, va). we were forced to pay for a new radiator and miscellaneous parts totaling over $600. they said the coolant system was full of rust and the radiator was plugged and could not be reused. now i'm experiencing the service engine soon that will not go out. after numerous trips to the dealer that started with leaking oil cooler lines, they said that the crank sensor was going bad. i replaced it, still the light stays on. next they say there is a misfire in cylinder 2, i replace the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. still the light stays on. all of these repairs within the first 14 months of owning this junk and it is not anywhere near being paid for. gm needs to fix these problems. i have spoke with other blazer owners and they too have experienced nothing but trouble. and the big 3 wonder why they are losing customers and market share. have they ever heard of quality? looks like i'm going foreign. *jb

Failure of 4 wheel drive option. the switch was replaced under warranty on the first occasion. every winter since the purchase of my blazer the switch for the 4 wheel drive has had to be replaced. *nm

Po410 code for emissions system - secondary air pump i have had the car 5 years. have replaced 2 secondary air pumps on emissions system at considerable cost. both corroded from water entry. known common problem on blazers. *nm

I was backing my 2000 chevy blazer and hit my 2007 yukon at less than 2 mph. there was little to no damage sustained to the yukon, but the whole rear tailgate had to be replaced on the blazer. a whole new rear tailgate assembly had to be replaced with all accessories. *jb

I own a 2000 chevy blazer and when it rains the brakes go out the vehicle will not stop the pedal won't go to the floor and it when you try to push the breaks it makes a funny clicking kind of noise and the pedal just hops not letting you break. then when you take off after you stopped (by the emergency break)the back end slides sideways like the front breaks are locked up. i almost killed myself and my kids because i couldn't stop! that is extremely dangerous! it only happens when it rains or go through water. others with the same kind of vehicle said the had that problem as well. *nm

I have bad seat accessories, if i hadn't unplugged the circuit under the seat,the seat would move me back and forth while i was driving. i see there are many complaints on this subject. also the fuel gauge problem is very inconvenient to say the least. *nm

2nd chevy blazer i've owned that had ball joints go bad. i've owned several vehicles for as long or longer with more miles & never had to replace ball joints on those. 1st blazer was a 1997 that i replaced ball joints on in 2003, now i have a 2000 blazer and have to replace the ball joints on it. *nm

My vehicle was towed on october 25, 2006 by master towing co. in san marcos, texas. later that evening i was able to get to the wrecker service and pay to get my vehicle out of impound. once i got home, i noticed that my entire cd case full of compact discs was missing. its valued at about $500 if not more. i then called the wrecker service the next morning and was not able to get a hold of anyone until monday oct. 27, 2006. i then spoke to a manager by the name of angie and she told me she would speak with her drivers. she never got back to me so i consistently called until i got a response. when i was finally able to get a hold of her she said that none of her drivers had seen or picked it up and that her company was not liable for my missing items. she did not even seem very concerned with trying to figure out what really happened or try and at least find them. she told me she would get back to me on several occasions and she never did. i was the one to consistently try and get a hold of her. this whole situation is very upsetting. in the mean time i contacted the officer who dealt with my vehicle being impounded and he told me he distinctly remembered there being 2 cd cases in my vehicle and i told him once i picked the vehicle back up there was only one cd case left in my vehicle. he informed me that i was able to file a theft police report which i am currently in the process of doing and he also told me to contact the dot. so that is my current situation. i am very upset. this i am not taking lightly and i would like to try and do something about it. i got my car impounded, that was enough! there was no need for any of my possessions to have been lost, taken or stolen. please get back in contact with me. thank you. *nm

I purchased my 2000 blazer in 6/20/02 from a chevy dealer in pa . i purchased the extended warranty . i have until 6/07 or100000 miles i have replaced the coil and distributor cap and rotor 5 times a new fuel pump a catalytic converter windshield washer motor and turn signal switch it has gotten to the point that i can't even sell it to anyone private and i can't afford to keep it . there has been electrical and computer issues shorts that melted the fuse box under the hood that melted the relay for the fuel pump. also there was a short that wiped the computer codes out and i had a rough time passing emission testing i am at the point the extended warranty does not want to spend any more on the vehicle. i have had the motor mounts replaced twice in 4 years. i have never been notified of any recalls orservice notices . i have had the vehicle serviced by licensed mechanics and had it serviced at the appropriate mileage required for the warranty. *nm

Blazer seeping oil from oil pan, will not fix only if i pay 75% due to 90 day warranty,and told if they would fix it i would only create more problems, it was also told by dealer and chevy that it is normal for year and mileage, i don't think so with 47,000 miles, when i owned a 97 chevy with 97,000 miles , no leaks but salesman knew of it 3 weeks after purchase when 30 day bumper to bumper existed,was at dealership july 6, 2006 for all items but chevy nor dealership documented it or the grease fittings, lube, check fluid levels like was suppose to do, salesman checked fluids for me after they neglected to do their job.. so chevy says can't go by salesman because he no longer works there, seeping oil from oil pan is not normal, i didn't receive a odometer paper on it or my trade in.. i feel they are doing me wrong and chevy is backing them up, i even gave salesman number and told them i have a note pad here of all that was to be done with pages after on note pad written on after that day and they won't listen. they never gave me correct mileage on it when i purchased the vehicle. *jb

Abs activates while braking at low speeds causing an increased stopping distance which has nearly resulted in hitting pedestrians or other vehicles. this happens several times daily. *jb

Dt*: the driver and passenger's side door bushings on the hinges are wearing out prematurely. the hinges start wearing into the bracket which causes the doors to drop down. the dealership informed the contact this was a common problem with these vehicles.

Drivers side upper ball joint separated while making a right turn off of a main street onto a side street. the wheel folded into the wheel well causing the 2000 worth of damage. chevy blazer came to a sudden halt. my family was very lucky we were not going at highway speeds when this occurred. the vehicle has approximately 72,000 miles. i had just lubed the front end and changed the oil change the day before. *jb

The grommet on door hinge is worn due to misalignment of door which caused the door latch to hit the striker improperly. this resulted in the striker bending and eventually caused too much pressure on the door well causing the body frame to crack. according to the body shop estimator this is extremely common in chevrolet blazers. *nm

Teeth broken on ring gear in differential. dealer installed new ring & pinion gear, side bearings and added new oil. parts = $1128.15; labor = $501.50; tax = $93.08; total cost = $1722.73. *nm

We have owned 2000 blazer since 0/6/2001 2nd owner bought with less than 19000 miles on it. multi-function switch replaced because of recall acts up when bulbs are weak. we are on the third set of upper ball joints none paid for by warranty. left hub assembly failure which resulted in abs malfunction fixed by extended warranty. driver door hinge assembly rusted would not close without force fixed but not covered by any warranty. suspect driver side is starting to fail again because of the loud squeaking. most important! passenger side door has developed same problem and will not shut correctly. on may 01,2006 after picking up my 12 year old nephew we were to starting to down the street when passenger door flew open!!!! i am afraid to let anyone sit in front until this is fixed! the hinges and pins appear to be getting wet and rusting . also all rotors have had to be replaced on this vehicle . this blazer has only 88,000 miles on it. i have decided to include all problems but am most concerned about doors, if we had been going faster i am afraid my nephew would have fallen out of vehicle!!! *jb

1) misalignment of driver side door observed; followed by awareness of increasing wind noise while driving 2) removal, repair, and replacement will increase with time; $250 for pin and bushing replacement, up to $1,200 for complete door hinge replacement 3) removal and replacement of pin and bushing on drivers door recommended. *jb

2000 blazer anti-lock brakes do not stop the vehicle. two years ago this caused an accident when i hit the car in front of me at a stop sign. the vehicle had done this quite a few times before this, both in wet and dry weather. i had the vehicle looked at by two different dealerships and they could find nothing wrong. i currently keep the anti-lock brakes unplugged as they are not safe. you think you are stopping and then the car lunges forward as the brake acts up. the accident caused me to get a ticket and have higher insurance premiums. *jb

My 2000 blazer ls zr2 has 68000 miles on it. around november 2005, when i needed my heater in the mornings, i noticed that it would not blow any hot air. i have had the cooling system flushed and replaced the thermostat and still have no heat. i can smell coolant every now and then while i am driving. so, i am led to believe that my heater core is leaking and or blocked. i have done some searching around the internet and have noticed that this is a common problem with blazer's and it is caused by the dex-cool cooling forming a "sludge" in the cooling system. i feel that gm should be responsible for my repairs, as they have known of this issue for years, yet still continue to manufacture vehicles with this type of coolant anyhow. *nm

I have purchased a 2000 chervolet blazer, i have a faulty fuel pump gauge, one that will never tell you the right amount of gas. this lead me into running out of gas at a very uncivilized area, and it could have ended up being a wreck, if a emergency lane wasn't available. a few weeks later i learned that a entire fuel pump was needed to correct the problem. i researched this on the internet and from talked to other people with blazers: they all have the same issues, gas problems, and i believe chevy is in fault here for producing a faulty fuel pump to thousands of owners. this part costs $400 to replace. *nm

Live in tn, often travel to mi anti-lock brake pump would engage at 10 mph when braking in normal conditions. same problem and solution as the vehicles in gm's current truck and suv recall, but this is a 2000 blazer. *jb

Owns a 2000 chevrolet blazer zr2 with 68000 miles. the heater blows cold air only. the alternator has been replaced at least twice. i replaced it once, and previous owner replaced it once . battery has been replaced at least twice. all ball joints replaced at least once to my knowledge. fuel gauge broke before 50000 miles. seat handle on passenger's side broken before 50000 miles. tailgate won't open. passenger side windshield wiper only moves half the time. that is all that i can recall right now.*ak

The anti lock brakes failed to stop my 2000 blazer in time to avoid hitting a deer. i contacted gm and they told me there was nothing they could do for me, there had been no recall on the 2000 blazer like there was on other models of suv's of the same year. i had the problem repaired on my own. it is my belief that there should be a recall on this suv to prevent anyone from being injured or killed due to brake failing. there was $3200.00 damage on my blazer and it cost $192.00 to have the problem repaired.*jb

Accelerator sticking. from standing start, accelerators pedal requires considerable pressure to move from resting position. as pedal is depressed, vehicle jumps forward before operator can remove pressure. complaints to dealer resulted in the estimate of a $100.00 charge to clean carbon from throttle body and apply a chemical treatment to help prevent further sticking. this should not be a maintenance item as it could result in uncontrolled acceleration, possible loss of control, and accident. dealer diagnosis was almost instantaneous so the problem must be a common one.*nm

My 2000 chevrolet blazers fuel level sending unit went out after 6 mos of owning the vehicle i bought it used in 2003 and all the sudden the gas gage wasn't working so i took it in to see what was wrong and i was told that the fuel level sending unit went out. so i started asking around and a lot of owners of the same make, model, and year also complained that theirs went out as well i got quotes on how much to fix it and was told that the price range was $380-$460. and i would have to replace the whole fuel tank just to get it fixed. also the rear-end differential broke and it took 3 months to finally find one because the manufacturer doesn't make the part for that year anymore. i am very disappointed in the quality of my car and strongly regret buying it with all the problems it has. *nm

Ball joints upper and lower replaced at 40k and 100k miles. will be needing to be replaced again very soon at 140k miles. the replacement at 40k was a total failure of passenger side ball joints to wit: vehicle was incapacitated as wheel was left 'bent'. fuel gauge fluctuated wildly if less than 1/3 tank of gas. fuel pump failed. *jb

Radley chevrolet did not provide us with a recall notice on brake lights not working. we have had problems with our 2000 chevrolet blazer from the start. we have been now told that the idler arm on the car is a safety hazard. we also had the fuel gauge go out. how often do these components go out. can you tell me anything about the idler arm and is there any recalls for this item. *jb

Both brake-abs lights come on intermittently. vehicle into dealership several times with different diagnosis, even though, speed sensor was mentioned each time but never repaired. currently, gm recall for speed sensor brake problem does not include 2000 chevy blazer nor the state of missouri. this is still a ongoing problem on my vehicle. *jb

Gas pedal sticking- not all the time but frequently, and of course not when i have it at the garage.

Began with loud undercarriage noise when shifting into second. now truck will no longer shift into 2nd or reverse. only 39,000 original miles on this one owner truck. not an electrical or fluid problem. *nm

My vehicle was recently purchased from a coworker with a known recall that was already fixed once and now is not functioning again. i called chevrolet and they told me there is not much they could do since it was beyond the warranty ,i had it diagnosed at a dealership which cost me $85.00 to tell me what i already knew but they would not fix it. this is failure that is known and i believe was not corrected the first time so i should not be responsible for the repair costs since it is a safety issue. the item is a 4 way switch. *nm

On sept 10 2005 i took my car to have a tune up done on it and the mechanic told my husband that the rear end of my vehicle was about to go. i had just purchased the vehicle about 7 months prior to this happening and i have been told that this should not have happened on a 2000 chev blazer, with that low of mileage. i had notified the dealership where i purchased the car and they in turn wanted to put me into another vehicle but that is not what i wanted i had wanted them to fix my car the one that they had sold to me. i want to know if there is anything that can be done to get my car to run right, so that i may use it and not pay for one to sit in my drive way. and i wanted to find out if this happened to any other 2000 chev blazers? sincerely yours susan burgos. *jb

Dt: there has been a constant problem with the brakes since consumer purchased the vehicle. when applying brake pressure the brakes chatter/jump, and shake within the brakes. the vehicle stops when this occurs. this can happen at both high and low speeds when applying brake pressure. this vehicle has been to a dealer numerous times for this problem. the consumer does not know what repairs have been made, but does remember something about calipers and corrosion. this is still a problem. there is a recall on some chevrolet vehicles involving the abs, but consumer's vehicle is not included in this recall. *ak

A recall on the multi-purpose switch was recieved and part was replaced in april of 2002. on monday august 22,2005 the same switch was replaced again at my expence.gm should correct thr real problem and not just the parts.also the passange seat adjuster has broken off.and in addition the transmission failed and had to be replaced under warranty.

Dt: the ball joints on drivers side broke sent head on august 13, 2005. contacted the dealer, they were of no help. contacted gmc, they took a complaint. did not hear any type of noise or any type of warning. this seemed to be a problem on the 4x4 vehicles. *ak

T-bone collision, approximately 45 mph. front end of vehicle badly damaged. no airbag deployment. *nm

The driver's seat back adjustment lever broke off at the rod connecting it. , no adjusting could be done. the part was repaired, and a new handle had to be ordered, because chevrolet decidedr rod, made out of a heavier metal, which wouldn't fit the old lever. the resulting charges were $76.35 for the recliner, $8.37 for the handle, and $86.40 for labor. there are just over 59,000 mi. on this 2000 blazer.*ak

Dt: three years ago the problem began. the owner pulled over to the side of the street and when the hazard lights were turned off then brakes went off as well and would not come back on. the main tail lights and brake lights did not work anymore. there was a recall and the owner did not receive the recall notice. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for service and the hazard light switch was replaced. the next time the hazard lights were used, the brake lights stopped working again. this happened about ten months after the first failure. then the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, they were willing to repair the hazard lights at a cost of $500. there seemed to be no indication from the dealership as to why these hazards lights kept failing. the dealership has been contacted by the owner at least 7 times in last month and a half. the owner attempted to work it out with gm 10 times in the last month and a half. *ak *sc

On the way back from a weekend camping trip we stopped for lunch. when we returned to the vehicle to leave there was a grinding noise and then a whirling noise and the reverse gear went out on the transmission. when we got home and i called around i found that this was a common problem with this vehicle. *nm

Problem with the dex-cool system in my 2000 chev blazer---heater went out july 2004, was under extended warranty and heater core replaced, radiator was flushed at the same time. one year later vehicle over-heating again, no longer under ext warranty...paid $212 for the flush today and filed complaint w/ gm due to the obvious problem which they deny with dex-cool ( 8 states have class-action suits). was told by gm rep that the coolant system is a maintainence item and they could not assist or accept responsibility in the reapair cost. spoke with the gm dealership who argued my case, asked what maintainence required on my part, since the dex-cool maint schedule is 155k miles, maint free---my vehicle has 70k miles and second flush in 12 mo period. was told by dealership that nothing i could really do to maintain, just keep check on coolant level every oil change, and system could fail again at any time--no guaranteee and the dealership also argued with gm rep---that there is a problem with dex-cool antifreeze.......i paid the cost, but after purchasing gm products for the past 30 years, if i am faced with additional cost of an apparent defect by the manufacturer...i will go to another make of car---thank you for your time

The fuel guage in my 2000 chevy blazer stopped working causing me to run out of fuel with my 4 year old son in the vehicle. i also had a 1996 chevy blazer and the fuel guage stopped working (my father now owns this vehicle). i contacted chevrolet and they claimed that they have no reports of fuel guages that stop working. a very close friend of mine who worked for chevrolet for 20 years told me that this is not true. apparently the fingers on the sending unit were falling off causing the guage to not work.

Dt: contact states the fuel gauge is not consistent in the readings. it does not measure the gasoline correctly. a mechanic stated there was a problem within the electronic wiring that deals with the computer to the fuel gauge. the vehicle has not been serviced for this problem.*ak

I purchased my 2000 blazer ls 2dr 4x4 with 58000 miles. at speeds around 65-70, it vibrates pretty harshly. i have brand new tires, breaks, and my u-joints and bearings have been inspected and found to be fine. still have vibration. i have noticed via the internet that this is a known problem with blazer's and it is just a defect in the way the drivetrain was built. i feel that this problem should be investigated and repaired by gm. also at 58000 miles i had to replace the alternater. i spoke with the person who i bought the vehicle from and they said that they had replaced it once also, therefore this would be the 3rd alternater in under 60000 miles.

Car started shaking. out side of tire started separation and tread peeling off.

I notced several times when i would stop that the vehicle would juimp forward and not completely stop. i was going to the garage to see my mechanic. my family and i were almost hit broadside when i tried to stop at a red light. when i put on the brakes i slowed down but when i got under 10mph the vehicle started to jump. the vehicle finally spopped after i was through the intersection. the mechanic told me that the front wheel bearings were worn. he said that the sensors for the abs system were in the bearings. so when i tried to stop the abs system kicked in. that is why i couldn't stop ! this was a very frightening experience for me and my family. this should not happen! the mechanic replaced the front wheel bearings and the vehicle seems ok now. i am concerned that this will happen again. the vehicle is only 5 yrs old.

Had front passenger side wheel hub (wheel bearing) assembly replaced in october 2004. in march 2005 same wheel bearing failed which needed replaced again. now on the driver side the wheel bearing is making noise. i looked into this and alot of people have had the same problem with these vehicles and wheel bearings. this is very unsafe as the wheel bearing holds on the front wheel thus could cause wheel to fall off while driving.

Front door hinges on 2000 s-10 blazer have rotted. driver hinge in 2002, now passenger hinge (both front doors) in january of 05. door hinges both needed replacement which seems extremely odd on fairly new vehicle. research on the internet shows that many people have the same problem and probably just don't know where to report it simulataneously. it's failure results in the inability to close the doors, which, depending on when they break (i.e. when closing door, hitting a bump in road - which could cause closed door to unlatch from post, flinging door open while driving). i really strongly suggest this be looked at. it appears that the wheel wells allow road spray and moisture to be thrown directly into the door panel well where the hinge is located and is causing the rot. looks like a major manufacturing defect to not seal the door hinge area from the wheel spray and debris throw-back zone.*ak

I was driving to texas over christmas and after i stopped in colorado and got fuel by the time i reached wichita kansas is when the fuel gauge started to stay at full when i knew it was almost empty. the gauge bounces around when it is in park or neutral. i travel a lot and it makes it very difficult to judge just how far i can drive before i have to refuel. no repairs have been made as of yet. *nm

The truck slid on a patch of ice 100 yards after merging onto the inner state. this resulted in the consumer losing control of the truck. the truck front driver side impacted a concrete bridge; then swung around;the rear driver side hit the bridge; this threw the truck into the right hand lane, into the guard rail , impacting the front passenger side; then the truck bounced to the left hand lane and impacted the guard rail head on. none of the air bags deployed upon impact. the driver sustained severe injuries to their neck, back, and left shoulder. *nm

My blazer now has 56,000 miles on it. i have discovered that it is in need of front end repair - specifically the ball joints are badly worn, the boots on the frond axle have a bad crack on the right side, and there is significant idler wear. in doing research, i have discovered that numerous blazer owners have experienced similar problems. i feel this is a design defect. i have also had two other issues that i am now discovering are common problems with a great number of blazers. both front reclining seat handles have broken off. i am also experiencing problems with the doors seeming to not align properly - as if the welds or hinges are failing. these have also been mentioned repeatedly in your complain area for this model. i have not gotten these items repaired as of this date. the blazer is now parked until i can afford to get it fixed. *nm

I have multiple complaints, the gas gauge on my vehicle stop working and i ran out of gas in the middle of the street when i realized problem 2 the rear brake lights and hazard lights do not work. the other problem is the vehicle stalls, and when it finally take off, the car jerks and the driver seat moves/slides back from the hinges which caused me to not be able to reach my breaks and run into a curb. also the driver side door sticks and is difficult to open. lastly the wheel baring and ball joints have gone bad twice and the car has less then 75000 miles on it. i called gm customer service department and explained all of my concerns and was told they we not aware of any nationwide problem and there was nothing they could do except fix the hazard light malfunction. i researched on the net and found many many people complaining of the same concerns i have. *jb

I have had numerous problems with my 2000 chevy blazer ls 4x4. under warranty the dealer replaced the oil lines by the oil filter, whole seat mechanism, driver side window motor, rear shock. they also fixed my hood rattle after 5 visits to the dealer and i told them what was wrong the first time it went in. since then at 40,000 miles the driver side wheel bearing went out and had it replaced and at the same time had the fuel pump replaced since that went out also. at 50,000 miles the same one went out again and had it replaced. now at 68,000 miles the passenger side wheel bearing is bad. also on my first wheel bearing replacement, they told me the ball joints were very loose and should think about replacing those also. these things should never be going wrong with such low miles. from what i am reading on the web and hearing from the dealers, this is a very frequent problem that chevy will not recall and take responsibility. i sure am happy that i haven't had a wheel fall off and kill someone yet. *jb

(2) last month began to hear growling noise from front end which grew louder with increasing speed. noise would increase even louder if steering wheel moved to right. Accelerator sticks when applying pressure from a stopped position requiring extra force on accelerator to get vehicle to move. this extra force sometimes makes vehicle lurch forward. in my opinion, this sudden movement creates a very unsafe driving condition. this condition started as an intermittent problem but is now occurring almost every time the vehicle is driven.*ak

We purchased our blazer new. at 23,000 miles we heard a clunk noise in the transmission when we put it in reverse, but the vehicle appeared to be fine. since the vehicle was still under warranty i took the blazer to the dealership and had them look to ensure there were no problems. they couldn't find anything and said it was still under warranty, if something were to cracked and break it would still be covered. the transmission broke at 55000 miles, 2nd, 4th & reverse didn't work. the dealership wasn't interested in fixing it under warranty because it was beyond the 3/36 warranty coverage. i spoke with several local independent garages getting estimates and everyone said chevrolet has had all kinds of problems due to a broken internal gear. i paid $2,000 to get it fixed. since doing so i've talked to countless blazer owners and the majority have had the same problem. one other problem we recently experienced was the front right wheel bearing going bad. my investiagtions have concluded that is another known defect gm has and are unwilling to fix. is there someone at gm who is willing to assist in compensation for my costly transmission fix? everyone i've contacted are not interested in helping the consumer with a problem that happens without warning and left my wife in the middle of the road. working in the automitive industry and a supplier to both gm and ford, i understand the liability automakers have in addressing known problems, especially problems like this that could happen without warning and result in death. i encourage assistance on this matter from gm or nhtsa. *ak

While shifting the vehicle into drive/neutral or reverse a two to three second delay caused a hesitation in the transmission from shifting. consumer noticed a clanking noise. drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed consumer that the problem could not be duplicated. *ak

Going about 30 mph to enter freeway on onramp, i put on my brakes as traffic was slowing. traffic then slowed quickly and i pushed brakes down harder and pedal went to the floor and car didnt stop causing me to hit the back for the car in front of me. i contacted the dealership and was told that was a problem with abs brakes at slower stopping speeds and that nothing could be done to correct it and that nothing would show on the computer. i called a brake shop and was basicly told the same thing. that abs brakes at slow speeds are a problem, they could put it on a machine to check codes but were 99.9% sure as usual it would show nothing.

I am complaining about the front wheel bearing on a 2000 blazer with only 36,754 miles on it. these are sealed bearings and no way to service them, they are suppose to last the life of the vehicle. the vehicle vibrates and makes noise and is ruining my tires and could make the vehicle wheel fall off. i got the vehicle used but have only put 10,000 miles on it in 2 years and i have the vehicle serviced every 3,000 miles and have all the records. i feel that there must be a problem with the bearings for them to go in 36,000 miles if that is considered the life of the vehicle maybe i should start buying fords. *jb

I am extremely disappointed in the paint job of my chev. blazer zr2 (2000). the paint has "egg shelled" in two spots. the finish on the roof rack and window trims is peeling and fading. the tire rack is rusted in all the joints. the paint did not hold up and is very distasteful.*ak

In less than 4 years i have had 2 major car repairs on my blazer. on trip to the chevy dealer they replaced the following: hift solinoid right front hub brg dry/grouwling, brg failed replaced hub brg assmy. my truck had 54,515 miles. *ak the stone mountain chevrolet dearlership in stone mountain ga did the repair. the next large repair is for a rear differential overhaul. the technician said that this is caused by major towing but ther is no hich on the truck and there is 99,000 miles on the truck.

Blinker sound contiunes when blinkers are not really on, it's annoying and an electrical problem, but could potentially cause an accident. many car repair shops have heard of this same problem on the same vehicle. *ak

My vehicle's front end has been giving me alot of front end problems. bouncing & making a vibration noise . i brought it to the dealership & they tell me that i need ball joints and other suspension parts due to the ball joints being bad on my vehicle. i call around to other repair shops & they say that is a very common problem with blazers costing the consumer hundreds of dollars in repairs. so, what is chevy going to do about it ? wait until a number of people get into accidents before they'll name it a recall ?*ak

Vehicle cut off while driving. it was towed to the dealer for inspection. dealer informed the consumer that the problem was due to a faulty electrical wiring coming from the fuel sending unit, located inside the fuel tank. consumer made the necessary repairs. also, consumer had a concern that the faulty wiring short could have ignited inside the fuel tank and caused an explosion. *ak

The turn signal in the vehicle began clicking even when the switch was in the neutral (off) position several months ago, however, the turn signals appeared to work properly. a couple weeks ago, while sitting at a left turn light with the turn signal on, a white stream of smoke began coming out of the steering column in the vicinity of the turn signal level. i turned off the level, and the smoke stopped. no corrective action has been taken yet, but i am afraid a fire may start in the vehicle from this. it appears there is a service bulletin (# 01073) related to nhtsa item # 636517 that may be related or the same, but the dealer says no recall is open and will only charge to replace the part(s). this seems like a safety/fire related issue and i have read numerous cases online where other owners experience the constant clicking noise from the turn signal too.*ak

Numerous problems. all after warranty expired. have a 2000 chevrolet s10 blazer 2 dr. it is a 4x4 with a 4.3l v6. seat handles broke a couple of times. terrible lifespan on those. had replaced twice.*ak replaced defective alternator. wasn't holding charge. also led to a new battery and serpentine belt. had to replace fuses for fuel gauge. it was jumping all over the place giving incorrect readings. had to replace numerous fuses. terrible whining coming from the fuel pump. chevy dealer tells me it is testing fine. but now i am having what seems like vapor lock problems on hot days. i'll go to accelerate and the vehicle will go no where and then catch and accelerate. acts like it's going to die but hasn't yet. diagnostics showed nothing. terribly sporatic and makes vehicle unsafe and unreliable. it has 60,000 miles on it now. ongoing problem to this day and i'm trying to determine if the lack of acceleration is the pump or another problem. pedal not sticking like it was a throttle linkage. rear windshield pump does not work. chevy rim caps keep breaking and coming off. $30 dollars apprx. for each one and have had to replace all four at least once.

2000 chevy blazer 4.3l v6 76k miles 2 door the sending unit on the fuel pump has gone bad and is causing my gas gauge to give an incorrect reading. i must now use the trip odometer to guess when to put gas in my truck. from research i've done this a very common problem with blazers of this year. gm should offer a recall for this $600+ job also replaced the upper & lower ball joints, idler arm and both wheel bearings in the past month. seat recline lever on passenger side has also snapped off and rear washer fluid sprayer no long works. i've owned 4 other chevy/gmc vehicles and had to replace the fuel pump in 3 of them. i will very much consider these issues and how gm handles this most recent one when i go to buy a new truck next year. *ak

Had new tires put on because of uneven wear. was told the cause of the wear was not due to misalignment of tires but because of worn ball joints. tire dealer could not align tires. did research on the internet and two items that seem to come up with the 2000 chevy blazer are the bad contol arms/ball joints and bad 4 wheel drive computer module. blazer has 42000 miles on it and is driven on good roads.*ak

I own a 2000 chevy blazer. in the past 3 months i have noticed hard shifting between 1st and 2nd gear after long trips on the interstate(happened 3 times). the service engine soon light came on and i took it to bill heard chevrolet. code error 1870 was recorded. it was a valve body assembly malfunction that caused my transmission to have to be replaced after only 67,000 miles.

While driving consumer noticed that engine indicator light illuminated, followed by the vehicle jerking and engine slipping. transmission has been repaired three times, but problem recurred. *ak *nm

The gas guage on my vehicle has recently started bouncing around on my vehicle so most of the time i have no idea how much gas i have. two days ago i ran out of gas on a main highway and had to take my life into my hands to go get more. i'm not happy, i haven't had vehicle very long!!! i've been told it's the sending unit responsible for this and now i'll have to pay in excess of 600.00.

While driving consumer heard a clunking noise coming from the front lower ball joints. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak

Fuel gauge fails to function properly. truck has no gas, yet gauge shows over a quarter tank. sometimes gauge fluctuates from full to empty randomly without reason after below half a tank. have run out of gas several times on highway. this seems to be a serious issue and costly repair. i know plenty of others with same problem as well as seeing numerous postings. *la

Fuel gauge does not read accurately. when i fill the tank the gauge goes to full. it seem to read accurately until getting to half tank. at that time it remains right at half full no matter how much further i drive. i have noticed several other identical complaints with the same vehicle. running out of gas is a very unsafe possibility! the repair for the sending unit was quoted to me $750 which is outrageous for something that is a common problem and should be recalled. *la

While driving at 30 mph, suddenly there was a grinding noise. the consumer pulled off the road to inspect the cause of the noise. the noticed that the front passenger tire was tilted. this occurred because the front upper ball joint broke and damaged the entire front end. *jb

Fuel level indicator: sending unit frequently fails causing indicator needle to constantly swing across face from 'e' to 'f'. chevy dealer says this is happening many times in blaser/s10 vehicles. chevy dealer says it's a bad sending unit that needs to be replaced and will fail again in a short amount of time. chevy dealer says that the manufacturer is well aware of this defective part problem that fails when used.

While driving 55 mph consumer smelled smoke coming from the vents. consumer pulled over, and turned the vehicle off. consumer lifted up the hood, and the hood release lever did not open. consumer called for road side assistance. consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. *ak

Front wheel bearings: apparent defective parts that fail frequently and have to be replaced. the chevy dealer says they keep plenty of them in parts store since they're always replacing them. dealer says manufacturer is well aware of the parts problem but refuses to even acknowledge it or reply to questions from dealer.

Within 2 months of purchase, the brakes went out, the rotors were peeling like hungry man biscuits, replacement of all 4 rotors and shoes were done, abs still not working. local chevy dealer unsure of problem. check engine light continues on, chevy dealer does not know why. now at 7 1/2 months of ownership, torque converter is "coming apart" according to aamco. it has a terrible whin and we are having it looked at by a local transmision shop today (8/26/03). i feel that the dealership that sold me this suv, i am the second owner, should have noticed some of this happening or starting to happen at the time of purchase.

Fuel gauge swings between ? and full and sticks at half. both front left & right side hub bearing assembly failed right side not as bad as left had both sides replaced-these are critical parts as they hold wheel on axle-i am second owner of car bought from dealer - dealer took 20% off total bill-defect not dealers fault but chevrolet?s-called customer assistance told nothing they can or will do for me am still trying to get full refund for parts&labor for defective parts that should have not failed at this low milage.

Service engine soon light stays on and idles rough sometimes won't start. fuel guage swings back and forth not registering the gas level.goes from empty to full.

Upon approaching the driveway vehicle suddenly made a noise. steering wheel felt funny. also, front left tire turned in the opposite direction that vehicle was going. when this occurred vehicle skidded. consumer depressed the brake pedal to stop. this occurred because the left front lower ball joint came apart, and the front right ball joints were starting to show signs of the same failure. the entire front suspension assembly needed to be replaced. also, automatic transmission slipped when shifting from first to second gear. meanwhile, while driving in over drive mode, the over drive disengaged and vehicle speed was reduced from a rapid pace to a very low speed. this failure almost resulted in an accident. dealership determined this was caused by a failure in the torque converter solenoid.*ak

2002 chevrolet blazer 4x4. failure of fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit - resulting in car stalling at high and low speeds causing hazard in traffic. parts replaced by dealership, total cost over $1,000. *ak

Fuel level sensor stopped functioning just out of warranty. have run out of gas several times since. now front wheel hub bearing is making a loud humming noise.*ak

1-recline handles on the front seats 2-back wiper don't work 3-window cleaner leaks on the rear window 4-replaced front suspension lower and/or upper ball joints twice in 1 year (mechanic told me that they see this all the time) 5-rear window latch won't open. *jb

The fuel gauge needle didn't register the amount of gas in the tank. it would move back and forth erratically, dropping down to e with a "fuel low" warning and then immediately going back up to f. my mechanic had to put in a new fuel sender and pump at a cost of $670.00. *nm

Our tires, uniroyal nail gard tiger paw p235/70r15, were very new, they had excellent tread left. i noticed a "wobble" developing and w/in a few days the tire exploded. the back left tire tread seperated. our fuel line was torn out, the inner wall of our wheel well was broken up and had to be replaced. we were w/out our vehicle for almost 2 months. the repair shop informed us that our tires had been discontinued so we received a differnt type of uniroyal tire. it has been 2 months since the car was returned to us. i have noticed the "wobble" again. we are getting new tires tomorrow. our complaints to uniroyal were ignored. they gave no reason for the discontinuation of the tires. i wonder why it is ok to let people continue driving around on tires that could kill them? why doesn't this government website do anything about all these complaints? maybe when someone dies they will. won't that be a nice law suit? *ak

2000 chevrolet blazer 2 dr. 4 wd. oil leaks on all engine oil coolant lines. four repair shops i contacts indicated they replace these lines on like vehicles at least once a week. *jb

On five separate occasions the vehicle stalled while driving at any speed. the driver was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the problem. *jb the engine shut down without any warning at any speed and while idling in park, the engine restarted. the problem could not be duplicated. the gas filter, ignition wiring, and the fuel pump was replaced but the vehicle was still experiencing the same problem. *sc *jb

Front driver side door comes out of alignment. door had been repaired twice. however, problem still exists. *ak

Vehicle experienced slow acceleration. this occurred when the t speed accelerated to 60 mph. consumer had to apply excessive force to the gas pedal when this occurred. there were 35-60 second delays before vehicle accelerated. vehicle had been serviced 3 times by the dealership, who replaced several other components, but they did not address the slow acceleration problem.*ak

Fuel injectors on chevrolet blazers ~ original problem was the modulator which i had replaced then 6 fuel injector had to be replaced. i was told by numerous dealerships that the injectors are faulty but to date no "recall". any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.*ak

Driver's side seat belt will not stay latched while driving. the light for seat belt appeared on the dashboard and remained on. consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed the driver that the part was not available due to a back order. *ak

While driving at highway speed the vehicle stalled without warning and coasted to the side of the road. the cause has not been determined. please provide any additional information. *nm in addition, consumer experienced vibrating when stopping. dealer performed front and rear brake service by replacing worn out pads and rotors. dealer also made repairs on lower ball joints, pitman and idler arm assembly. *la

The drivers side front assembly recliner broke when i attempted to use it for the first time. this is an obvious safety defect by reading all the complaints filed on this very issue. why no recall?*ak

Oil cooler lines were rubbing on wiring harness in left front wheel well. the rubbing caused a hole in the oil lines resulting in loss of oil pressure and oil. after getting this fixed i was told this was a common problem with this model. after inspecting the repairs i noticed a new assembly seperating the lines which will correct the problem. i am extremley dissatisfied that i had to cover the repairs, i personally feel that this is a safety defect. if it would have blown out at highway speed it would have covered the driver side tires with oil and make the vehicle uncontollable. *ak

Sending unit/fuel pump broke so my gas gauge doesn't work properly. gas gauge works from full to half a tank of fuel. from half to empty the gauge doesn't move. i just want to see if others are having the same problems. running out of gas could be dangerous. *jb

I had the front recliner fixed and at a later date had the passenger side front recliner fixed. now 22 months later the driver side front recliner is broken again. i am not rough with my seats and i think that this is rediculous that these keep breaking. the cost to get these fixed is around 140.00 each. i don't think that i will ever buy another chevy product again. i don't beleive that this should be something that i should have to fix every 2 years.*ak

Triver is constantly putting oil in vehicle. driver noticed a puddle of oil under the car. took vehicle to a mechanic, and he determined oil lines needed to be replaced. *ak

Consumer received seven recall notices regarding the hazard flashing warning light switch, the recall was resolved and the consumer was having a hard time trying to get the recall closed. *ph *jb

After driving the vehicle, the driver noticed that oil was on the out side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who informed the consumer the oil line was leaking. please describe further.

Consumer received a safety improvement campaign notice from chevrolet for the sequential central port fuel injector #c99066e. according to the letter injector can become plugged, and has a warranty for 10 years or 200,000 miles. consumer went to the dealer for repairs, and dealer refused to service the vehicle. consumer contacted chevrolet customer service where a representative contacted the dealer. then, dealer agreed to do the service. consumer went back to the dealer, who once gain, refused to do the repairs. *ak

While braking tail lights failed. this could cause a distraction to oncoming traffic. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.*ak

Fuel guage is erratic below 1/4 tank. *ak

Front axle has a continuous leak. was resealed on one occaison and entire front axle replaced on another. still continues to leak fluid.*ak

When starting to accelerate the gas pedal sticks. have had it repaired once by the dealer, it only lasted less then a year.*ak

While vehicle was parked and consumer was taking the key from the ignition switch steering wheel caught on fire, independent mechanic determined that hazard warning switch melted, and caused the fire. also, turn signal and brake lights were inoperative. *ak

The lever on the front drivers and passenger seats that reclines the seats back. they snap right off. they have replaced one at cost now both are broke. the bad thing is it happened to me out of town and i had to find some pillows to prop me up enough to drive. now i have to use pliers. but this can happen if you try to recline a little back while driving and may go all the way back and you can't get it back up.*ak

The oil cooler lines are leaking on my 2000 blazer( with only 54,248 miles). the mechanic who changed the oil today stated that he has yet to service a blazer that didn't have leaking lines eventually. interesting! he also stated that he didn't understand why there has not been a recall. if this is not the proper place to report this, please let me know. perhaps you can also direct me to the correct place. thank you.

Purchased a 2000 chevy blazer from harry green chev. in bridgeport,wv.we have had a water leak coming from the drivers door. the wind and water comes in around the door. we have notified them numberous times and they said they would check to see what they could do but have done nothing. the last time we talked to them they said we would have to pay to have the problem fixed. the problem was there since we purchased the vehicle and they should stand good to fix the problem. seems as if the vehicle may have been wrecked beofre we purchased it but car fax said there wasn't nothing listed. we started off making payments and that was fine they would make regular check ups but as soon as we paid the vehicle off in full they have been giving us the run around. they told use they would take care of the problem but they won't and they want us to pay to have it fixed. the windshield also looks as if it may have been replaced. *ak

I purchased my chevrolet blazer new at the end of 1999 and it has been in the shop so much i know all 15 of the mechanics by there first name. the battery has been replaced at least 3 times, the alternator has been changed 3 times, the automatic transmission has been replaces, the seat handles have been replaced more than once, the seat belts have been replaced from locking up, the front end has had work done to it and still is not fixed, the rear right speaker does not work, the fuel gauge has been replaced, the gas petal sticks i haft to clean the card at least every month, the heater core has been replaced 3 times and it still does not get hot. i was told that this was caused by the orange antifreeze and was told that chey would not warranty their 5 year antifreeze and the dealer told me that i needed a $500.00 engine flush that i could do my shelf for $10.00 but i was then told that the engine was corroded up inside and i would need a new motor and they would not pay for it even under warranty. i called gm complaint line and was told that they new of the problem and they could not offer me any help. the complaint line was a joke and a waste of my time. i will never buy another chevy this is my second vehicle. my first was a s10 and i had the same problems. *ak

Oil leaks where oil lines connect to the remote oil filter. mechanic indicated this was a common problem in chevy suv/trucks with remote oil filter systems. *la

The seat back adjustment levers broke on both the driver and passenger seats. the metal shaft is defective. the cheverolet dealer quoted $300 per seat. there is a service bulletin issued #060601 for this problem and numerous complaints to the nhtsa web site. cheverolet will not correct the problem because it has not been identified as a safety issue. if the drivers seat gets broken in the full recline position, this would be a safety hazard for the driver.

Rear brakes were making a light grinding noise. upon inspection of the brakes by the mechanic, they noticed that the rear brakes/ front brake rotors, and pads wore out prematurely. *ak

I bought this blazer 5 months ago and it only has 77,000 miles on it. i took my inlaws to the airport on saturday morning, 11/29/03, and the transmission went out, no reverse, only 1st and 2nd gear works. i am told by 3 different transmission shops that this is a common problem with this transmission. this is not right, why wasn't this been recalled? *nlm

I have a 2000 chevy blazer with 44,000 miles. since the warranty expired in july i have had numerous problems that seem to be common among owns of this type of vehicle. gm refuses to address these items since the car is just out of warranty. some i consider to be safety issues. they are as follows: accelerator pedal sticks, seat recliner handle is broken, fuel gauge does not work properly and 4 wheel drive will not engage. for a vehicle that is just over 3.5 years old this is unacceptable. i will probably not purchase another gm vehicle due to these problems and will probably purchase a european auto, their engineering and customer service are far superior to our us automakers. *ak

While driving at 60 mph there was a vibration throughout the vehicle. dealer informed consumer that vibration was normal. dealer showed consumer docket id# 1381844, stating that chevrolet was aware of the problem, and an attempt to repair was unnecessary.*ak

Automatic transmission failure made it impossible for vehicle to go into the reverse gear. also, consumer was unable to buckle the rear seat belt because the plate got stuck in the holster, and the holster was stuck in the seat. dealership was notified of both failures, but was unable to resolve the problems. *ak

Seat adjustment handle broke off driver's seat. this is a very expensive repair, and have found out that there a alot of these breaking. i think chevrolet should make this into a recall so their customers do not have to pay for their mistakes. none is perfect, but at least they could make the effort to fix them, and not make the customer do so.*ak

2000 blazer started surging. after several months of surging, one day car would not accelerate on highway and a few minutes later it stalled. it restarted but after several blocks, it stalled again. this kept happening. car was towed by aaa 67 miles to my dealer. dealer could not find anything wrong but thinks it is probably the fuel pump. car is still surging. after 1.5 months car stalled again while idling in a line of cars. it restarted after some difficulty. i then took it to another chevrolet dealer. again they couldn't find a problem. said they couldn't do anything until something showed up on the computer or car completely dies and won't restart. so i don't feel safe driving the car since i don't know when it might shut down on me in a dangerous situation. *la

The adjustable pedestal on the seat base occasionally collapses when it is subjected to high temperatures. *mr including the interior of the vehicle in the summertime. the plastic would become very pliable also when pressing the base into the seat during installation, the adjustment notches slipped. *scc

I have a 2000 blazer lt 4wd with 44,000 miles on it. i recently started experiencing vibrations at highway speeds. my dealer verified the problem. according to a gm document, there is no fix to this problem. according to gm document id# 1381844. the document is entitled "vibration at highway speeds-suspension wheel #pi01273b - (09/15/2003). the document explains the problem & symptoms exactly as described in many of these discussions. there is a line in this document that reads: this vibration is considered a normal characteristic for these vehicles and no repair attempts should be made." this document covers 2 & 4wd drive gm vehicles with the same body types (i.e. blazers, jimmy, bravada, s-10, envoy) and covers years 00 - 03. this vehicle is unsafe for use on the highway!! if this was "normal" why didn't the vehicle do this when it was new? i called chevy's customer service line and they verified the document. they told me to take it to another dealer for a second opinion after that i guess i'm out of luck. my dealer found the document at the following url: http://service.gm.com/servlets/blobshtml?shtmlfile=1381844. *la

6/12/03, 2000 blazer 4x4 transmission suddenly lost ability to obtain all gears. after parking, the vehicle lost ability to shift into reverse as well. noise transmitted from transmission contained metallic material grinding and moving within. at the time, the vehicle was still less than 3 years old with the majority of its use coming from work transportation. the chevy dealer would not quote without disassembling the transmission, which would be the majority of the labor involved in a full repair. they stated that they generally prefer to replace the transmission, $3200. a local transmission shop diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes. the owner has seen this issue on several occasions and literally described the symptoms as soon as i told him i had a blazer with transmission issues. the complete rebuild, due to a sun-shell gear failure, cost $2097.78. the technician stated that the non-robust joining of two cylinders (no fillet) as well as the thickness and material used allows the part to fail quite frequently. he had completed multiple jobs for this at his shop alone. in fact, an acquaintance of mine, had the identical situation happen with his blazer the week of 10/26/03. at the time of the incident i had called the chevy customer service line with no help coming from them. this has been the pinnacle of several failures on this vehicle including both front wheel bearing assemblies (38,000mi and 55,000mi), a power seat that quit working, a power window that quit working, and several paint issues. reference chevy technical service bulletin 010730038.*ak

Automatic transmission was leaking oil. dealer determined that the leak was unusual, and had to take transmission apart to find the cause of the leak. *ak

Replacement of both front wheel bearings at 60,000 miles. lots of road noise and "hum" vibration coming from front end for several thousand miles, then it got real bad when turn steering wheel to left. small time mechanic has replaced bearings on 12 blazers over the course of 6 months. one dealer acknowledged that many blazers have been in to replace front wheel bearings anywhere from 30-80000 mile. mechanic thinks it's caused by lack of adequate grounding for the abs braking system. *la

Headlights flicker - faster than you can blink an eye--will the lights stay off sometime? a disaster at night.*ak

The passenger side seat will not lock into place, causing the seat to slide forward while the vehicle is in operation. the passenger seat lever also broke off while attempting to adjust the recline position of the seat back. dealer is repairing both problems with a cost of over $600.00. *la

The fuel pump,line and tank are faulty at 35000 miles. i bought it as a used car from santa ana hyundai who agreed to fix the fuel pump but did not. the transmission is not changing gears properly, it would not start when i turned it off to get gas on 9-26-03, the left front end is popping with a loud noise,the brakes are not antilock brakes,it feels as if i am hitting metal when i stop hard,the panel lights would flicker, lights on dash board when flash when i had seatbelt on. i had a chevrolet dealership fix the minor things. the battery cable was loose and they oiled the joints to stop the squeak. the dealer refused to fix the fuel pump which is unsafe and demand i pay him money that is already above the price of this car. i am paying $14,000 plus for a 2000 chevrolet blazer with a faulty fuel pump.the door entry will not properly take in the key to open the door.the gauge meters were dancing back and forth and not properly reading the fuel.it was a rental car before i bought it so i had no real history of recalls or mechanical reports. *la

Seat handles are broken again. resulting a reclining driver seat. seat handles broke under warranty and was replaced, so this is the second time on my blazer, 2000 model. gm needs to redesign these handles because someone could get into a accident. *jb

The suspension on the vehicle...the control arm upper and lower ball joints and the sensors for the bas brakes all went at once...also the gasoline sensors in the vehicle..the gas amount never registers and the needle flips back and forth and i have researched similiar reports on the net and have found that all these issues are a major frequently occuring problem with the vehicles... i own a 2000 chevy blazer...i feel that the manufacturer of this vehicle should be fixing this problems...i have already paid for the ball joints and upper/lower arm and sensor to be fixed at a massive cost to me of over 1000.00 the vehicle is constantly having to have repairs done some of which are due to normal wear and tear but for all kinds of sensors to be going a truck is ridiculous..i am also as of a week ago experiencing problems with the door locks...the fuse for that equipment blows on a regualr basis..i have paid for vehicle diagnostics throught the portsmouth nh chevy dealer and they have found all kinds of other major problems with this vehicle..the cost of the vehicle was 18000 and by next year i will probably have spent $6-7000 trying to fix this vehicle. *ak

The front bumper of my 2000 chevrolet blazer was completely crushed when i hit a sign pole in a parking lot. it was in my blind spot (where the front windshield meets the driver-side door, that strip of metal) when i pulled slightly forward and to the left to leave the lot. i could not have been going very fast, this pole was within 4' of my car, yet this approx 4" diameter metal pole completely crushed the bumper. this is unbelievable frailty in such an important part of the protection afforded a car's occupants. i'd like chevy to replace the bumper. this is unacceptable to me. i will never purchase another chevy. it's back to volvos for this woman. *ak

I just purchased a certified used blazer in july of 2003. it was in for its scheduled maintenance and while there the technician snapped off the driver's side seat adjustment handle, which my dealer later replaced. not two weeks later the passenger side handle snapped off as well. my dealer will not replace the passenger side without charging me for parts and labor.i feel that this is a manufactured defect. i have researched this subject and have found many other unhappy consumers like myself regarding this issue. *ak

Someone should do something about the fact that the transmissions on the 4x4 suv has a problem. the products used are not very heat tolerant. i have spoken to several people who have had to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced. also in looking on the internet i am seeing an awful lot of people having trouble with the heating and air system on the blazer.*ak

The right rear and both front brake flex lines failed on two separate occasions. the consumer reported the problem to the chevrolet headquarters and was told there was no recall or warranty for the failure. *mr *cb *nlm

While driving, the transmission failed without warning. the dealer was notified. *ak the consumer was stopped at a stop sign on a side road, waited for traffic to clear and as he made the left turn onto the highway, a pop sound was heard and the lost power. the vehicle moved forward in a jerking motion. then the consumer continued to drive in low gear slowly and could not get out of the driveway in reverse. *scc *jb

On two separate occasions the brake flex lines failed. the first time the right brake flex lined failed. the second time the brake flex lines failed on both front calipers. the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was told that there were no problem or defects reported therefore no recall or warranty was issued. *ph *nlm

The ball joints need to be replaced on my blazer and i have only had it for about three months. the dealership has agreed to pay for all of it but $100.00.

The wheel bearing had to be replaced less than a month after i had it. the dealer did not charge me for that. i had the vehicle for about two and a half months and the transmission went out. the dealer only covered 30% of the cost which was better than nothing.

My 2000 chevy blazer (88k mi.) had both the abs system light and emergency brake light come on. i have also experienced strange abs activation even at low speed and light brake application. my dealer said the abs controller is faulty. i have found numerous descriptions of these very same symtoms from other owners as well as tsb references to this defect. this looks like a trend and a design flaw and a saftey issue. this should be investigated and the abs controller system should be recalled.

Refer to odi id number 760100, 8008263, 8013241, 10016706, 10001738, 566417. i have detected this same problem on my 2000 chevrolet blazer purchased in january 2000 at a dealership in seattle washington. the throttle pedal sticks on takeoff/startup from a stopped position (i.e. stop light/sign). i have to exert extra pressure on the pedal to get the vehicle moving. when i exert the extra pressure on the pedal, after about 1 - 2 inches, it breaks free and lunges from the stop. it also sometimes happens when i try to accelerate on the freeway, not from a stopped position. my wife has also experienced this problem. we just got home from a trip through california from 8 days of driving and have had this problem the whole time. i first experienced this problem about a month ago and thought i might need to use wd-40 in the linkage from the pedal. this did not help. i contacted a local dealer in las vegas who said they have not had this problem on any other vehicle. i consider this a safety issue because it is not normal to have the pedal stick like this and it could create an accident potential if it were to stick and then lunge and the need to immediately apply the brakes presented itself. *nlm

Rear tailgate on my 2000 chevrolet blazer ls would not open after closing. the rear inside trim panel had to be broken because of a poor design to get to cheap plastic actuator unit to release the rear window and tailgate. costly repair not under warranty. could pose safety problem if it was the only escape route in car crash. i feel gm should at least cover parts repair since the only way to replace the problem is to break a $145.00 + trim panel because the screws for that panel are on the side of the tailgate which you can't get open to unscrew them. i think this is problem which gm refuses to address and like i said is a costly problem for the consumer. *nlm

Tread separation on two uniroyal laredo p235-70-15 on a 2000 blazer tires, with-in a 10 day period. apx. 10 days ago front end was shaking, told of tire separation on l/f. tread was separating from tire . bought 2 new tires. today i had tire separation on l/r and again tread was pealing from tire. called uniroyal today and after three phone calls of getting the runaround i was then able to have one covered under warranty the other tire was disposed of by tire shop. tires had about 60-65% tread life left on them. problem was that the tire shops they sent me too said they only sell uniroyal tires and do not warranty them. other problem was by alleged regional representative in my opinion had a "no care" attitude. *ak

While traveling at slow speeds, (less than 15 mph) brake pedal pulses, and goes towards the floor. abs then activates, and the truck does not stop. this has happened 5-10 times, twice causing collisions with curbs, and parking barriers. garage that fixed a broken brake line, checked the brakes, and could find no problems. *jb

I have a tailgate/hatchback combination. the latching mechanism has separated from the glass. the glass company that the dealership sent me to told me this was a manufacturer's defect and that new glass would have to be ordered. i went back to the dealership and they told me that it could be that, but also offered an implausable explanation for a scenario were separation from the glass might have occurred. they refuse to rectify the situation or even investigate it. the alternate scenario was offered by a regional dealer manufacturer who has never seen my car and who refused to inspect it personally when i requested it.*ak

For several weeks, 4lo light on dash would flash as if trying to shift into 4 wheel drive, on 5/19/03, it was locked into 4lo, have not been able to transfer to 2 wheel drive, very loud grinding noise in front end when trying to take out of 4lo. *nlm

I was notified by another driver i had no brake lights, brought back to dealer and informed that it would cost $400 to fix. found out through my employer there had been a recall for this problem. why was it not corrected before i purchased it from the chevy dealer. also informed my airbag warning light was on and the a module was at fault and would cost another $550 to fix and that it may inflate airbag while driving. these are totally unrealistic problems to occur in a 2 year old model with less then 40,000 mi. *jb

2000 chevrolet blazer 4.3l 2 door utv - vehicle was purchased as gm certified used with 49712 miles, on 1/17/03. defective driver side door hinge was noticed on the following day, 1/18/03, and brought to the attention of the selling dealership when they opened for business on monday 1/19/03. a subsequent body shop estimate requested by the selling dealership found all four (driver and passenger) door hinges, to be in need of replacement due to inferior welds. *nlm

Suspension front and rear-upper and lower ball joints(front)left and right sides idler arm and both rear leaf springs needed to be replaced. warped rotors left and right. left door lock cylinder fell off. dealer replaced right rear speaker under warranty. front seat recliner levers replaced resulting in split cost with dealer. manufacturer rep offered labor/parts split for suspension work and brake work for $1400.00. refused work on door lock in excess of $300.00. *jb

I took my year 2000 chevrolet blazer into gleason chevrolet in forest park illinois to service an inoperable horn. i was told that the front air bag module needed to be replaced in order for the horn to be repaired. (the extended warranty will not cover the cost of repairs.) i now am concerned that i have two safety issues. 1.) the horn does not work. 2.) apparently, the air bag module is defective. gm will not cover the cost of repairs.*jb

My chevy blazer's drivers door was repaired while it was under warrenty. it is breaking off. my warrenty expired 3 mths later as the door had broken again. the chevy dealer refused to repair it. i beleive the car was n a flood before i bought it and they did not tell me because the door hinges are all rusted and broken. they changed my alarm system and it has never worked properly. it is suppose to be automatic shut down if key not put in to start

Transmission slips, 38kmiles on my 2000 blazer, out of warranty. took it to the dealer, the dealer's mechanic said he has replaced a valve on the transmission of four 2000 blazers so far this year. i will make number five - quoted cost of $850. service center will not cover under warranty. read several reports about transmission issues similar to mine on 2000 blazers and s-10s. why no recall? if this is a known problem, why am i not coverred under extended warranty?!!

Acceleration pedal hard to push, acts like it sticks. the dealership cleaned the throttle body, they said that there was carbon build up which caused the sticking. this is the second time i had this cleaned. when i asked the dealer, he said this was very common with the 4.3 v6 engines. dealer recommended adding fuel injector cleaner to stop the build up of carbon. i had been doing that. seems like it lessened the build up but did not prevent it. i suppose this is going to be normal maintenance, similar to an oil change. i have had other blazers and have never had this problem, it would be nice if the manufacturer could resolve the problem. ts

The gas pedal sticks 75% of the time upon initial acceleration, whether that is from a stopped position or accelerating after slowing. the sticking is such that force has to be exerted to get the pedal to depress thereby causing lurching of the vehicle. in parking lot situations or on icy roads this can be potentially very dangerous. also, both front seat adjusters that allow the seat to be repositioned have broken off while trying to repostion the seat. when we reported these items to our dealer they said these are common problems they are seeing frequently. if this is so i feel it is a defect of the manufacturer. the seat levers were plastic painted to look like metal and both broke off within a week of each other. dt

I was driving down the road when i heard a loud pop. found out the transmission had gone for reverse, second and third gears. the clutches (automatic) had been replaced in october 2001 and now they had blown. mechanic said this was a common issue among new blazers. gm at first indicated they would consider helping out if the dealership diagnosed the problem and then changed stories to say that they wouldn't do anything until the dealership fixed the problem and then they would consider it; however, it wasn't likely. it seems to me that the transmission shouldn't have two identical major issues within 15,000 miles of each other. unfortunately, the first repair was only under warranty for 12 months/12,000 miles. gm needs to step up to the plate.

Since purchase of vehicle oct 2000 i have been in the shop 35 x for manufacturing problems. ongoing problems include dimming of headlights at any given time and flickering of clock/radio display at any given time. service attempted to fix the dimming and flickering by replacing the alternator, but it did not fix the problem. they are now unable to duplicate the problem. it took service 5 attempts to fix taillight water retention problem (they sealed the entire assembly). the rear differential fluid was reportedly low from factory causing a grinding sound in my gears (it took 2 attempts to fix that problem). since that differential problem, i have had a clunk between 2nd & 3rd gears (service is unable to duplicate the problem).

The 2000 chevy blazer is a mechanical and saftey nightmare! this vehicle was purchased brand new/lease and i have had problems from the beginning. the exhaust has never sounded normal; it has a preignition (rattle-like) noise, and i was recently told that the catalytic converter is bad. the alternator failed at approximately 12000 miles. the hazard lights failed in april 2002, and the brake lights failed shortly after. the steering problems include: clunking when turning to the left, a shift in the front end (feels like the front pass. side steering components are loose). the vehicle is almost impossible to control on freeway due to loose steering and inability to control on transitioning/uneven pavement. the dealer has replaced front pass-side tierod and stabilizer, and the steering wheel now has a 12-15degree, off-center, right list. cutter cheverolet of hawaii is now having us try to reproduce the problem(s), and trying everything they can to not accept that the vehicle is, in fact, a "lemon"! what does it take to prove that a vehicle is just not a good vehicle; does my family have to get injured or die to prove there is a problem! we are a "gm-family"(entitled to gm family discounts), and this is how we get treated. . .no acceptence of responsibility or pride/honesty in their product. i will never buy another gm product; ever! the dealership, gm factory, and gmac should rightfully accept responsibility and take the vehicle back. i have better things to pay $384.00 per month! japanese atomotive industry. . .here we come! ~ don schrader, pearl harbor, hawaii. *ak

Transmission failed while pulling out of the driveway into the neighborhood. the blazer would not go into reverse, 2nd and 4th gear. an independent transmission shop said that he has fixed at least six 1999 and 2000 model year blazers in the past two months that had this same problem. based on this information, i contacted the manufacturer at phone # 1-800-222-1020. chevrolet's customer service representative said that this would not be covered. i contacted the dealer and they said that chevrolet would cover the repair in full and if they didn't then chevrolet would pay for half. obviously if the manufacturer is willing to do this when the vehicle is out of the warranty period then they are admitting that there is a faulty part. the transmission should not go out in a vehicle that has 47,000 miles on it. the vehicle has not been four-wheeling. it is driven by my wife to the school where she teaches that is about 40 - 50 miles round-trip on the interstate. the dealer said the repair costs was $1,040.86 and that they would split the cost with me. the reverse reaction shell part is less than $50 and if a seal kit was needed (which it wasn't) is another $160. labor ranges from the "book" from 6.6 hours at the independent shop to 8.4 hours at the dealer. besides being gouged on the repair costs by the dealer, my complaint is that this critical transmission part should not have failed under normal driving circumstances. i do not even want to think of the consequences if the failure would have happened on the interstate at 70 mph. the manufacturer needs to be made responsible for their products if failure could cost lives.*ak

When the comfort control system mode knob is turned to the off position, the front floor outlets direct hot air through these lower vents. moving the temperature knob to blue (coldest area) has no effect. warm hot air continues to vent with system in off position. while the owner's manuel advises that when mode knob is in the off position "some outside air will still enter the vehicle". it is very hot air not outside air that enters the vehicle. the only way to isolate the hot air is to never select "off" on mode switch, and selecting either air conditioning or vent position (selecting the latter shuts off the hot air floor vents but then instrument panel vents must be individually closed to stop air flow . i have had my vehicle in twice for this problem and was advised "npf, no problem found". i believe one service manager was most correct in advising that this was a design fault by chevrolet. i confirmed that there are quite a number of blazer owners in web site auto chat room that are frustrated with this flaw. my main concern is that the air is so hot that even when artificially isloted by non-standard ventilation control selections, there may be damage under the panels or to the ventilation or electrical sytems. *ak

Brought vehicle to dealer after i had an oil change at an independent mechanic. mechanic told me i should take truck back to dealer since my rear shocks were very wet (leaking) and they are sealed and should not leak. brought to dealer, never even bothered to look at it (since they'd probably have to replace them since they were under warranty) but told me "chevrolet has stated that a little seepage is normal". problem continues now, with 43k miles on it, and they are far from "a little wet" - but completely black (and they're yellow shocks) - constantly wet, and truck rides like there are no shocks. will bring back to dealer again, and of course, now it is out of warranty, guarantee he'll tell me their bad.*ak

We have had so many problems with this vehicle.we can not get any satisfaction thru the dealer or chevrolet.we first had a 1999 blazer.we had so many problems with it they put us in a 2000 blazer.we have had the same problems and more.on the 1999 blazer we had to replace the multifunction switch.it went out and left my wife stranded.we had to replace all the door panels because of excessive noise.we had to rplace the overhead console.t 47,000 miles the rearend went out.n the 2000 blazer they put us in ,we have had to replace the seat levers.at 34,000 miles the transmission went out.we ha to replace the multifunction switch on this vehicle too.the service manager at the chevrolet place told us that anyone driving these vehicles will have to replace this switch.there were 5 other blazers in the shop for the same problem when we took ours in.one of them only had 4,000 miles on it.chevrolet knows this problems exsists but will not admit it for fear of a recall.this multifunction swich controls al your lights and ignition.it can fail and leave you stranded with no warnining.we have had no luck in dealing with chevrolet.they told us to just keep bringing it in when something goes wrong with it.we didnt pay 27,000 dollars for a vehicle that we are afriad to drive.it now sits in our yard and we are not making the payments.thay can come get the piece of junk.its no wonder people are fed up with american car makers. *ak

Front passenger door would stick it would take all your effort to open it. they adjusted the door stricker and lubed the hinges 5/24/00. 7/25/00 door was still sticking again they adjusted door and stricker. powertrain- rear 7/25/00 reported that rear shakes and shimmys on acceleration from a stop. they could not duplicate. 8/30/00 took in again for shutter in rear, they replaced 1 gasket 5.399 sp 2 bearings 5.536 sp and 1 case asm 5.510. 6/1/01 took in for the air bag light staying on found history code for no communication between computers could not get it to duplicate. 7/16/01 air bag light check for history codes reset and test drove could not find problem. i also had no brake lights this visit. it had blown 3 fuses. they found that multifuntion switch was defective and was hoping that that would solve the air bag problem. 9/25/01 took in for air bag light again. codes that showed up were v1000, v1016,v1041,v1064,v1096 reset codes said that it was stating that it was not registering a problem wit the air bag. this trip i had the window lock overide replaced. all windows were locked except for the drivers. 10/10/01 took back in for air bag light. not registering again. traced wiring to splice pak 201 cleaned and reroute and reinstall buss. this trip the rear passenger door lock was not working and it was replaced. told me to call if light came on again. 10/23/01 light came on while driving home. called and took back to shop 10/24/01. it was not reading any codes. they drove car 140 miles and could not get it to come on. they told me the next time it comes on if in daytime monday- friday to call them and they will come and get the car, not to cut it off and they will hook it up to the computer while the light is still on. please help!!!!! what options do i have? does the lemon law apply here????

Every place i have contacted about these repairs has stated they are aware of these two product-wide part defects. per scott at darryl burke, the mf switch has been going out on most affected vehicles, which has been a product-wide failure, prior to the 36ooo mile warranty limit. per jr at atlantic ave. tire in cary, nc, 919 872-0786, he and his supplier are aware of the broad mf switch failures which cause loss of rear brake lights and could now be the main factor contributing to many accidents. also,scott at darryl burke's svc dept told me today not to bother spending $340 to replace the seat adj levers as they will just break again as there has not been a product upgrade issued to fix the root cause of this product wide problem. if the seat can not be adjusted so that the driver is comfortable and has optimum visibility, this problem can contribute to driver error and accidents.*ak

My wife was driving down a one way and a lady blew through a stop sign out in front of my wife. my wife hit here in the middle of the ladies car at 35mph. my wife was not wearing a seat belt at the time due to the fact it had stopped working the night before. she was on her way to the dealer ship at the time of the accident. on impact the air bags did not deploy on the driver or passenger side. the doors on the vehicle locked. a person came to get my wife out of the suv but they could not due to the doors locking. i would think that in a 35mph crash that did approx. $8000 of damage that the air bag would hve gone off. i hope this can be solved. thank you.*ak

4/8 i was driving the car and it just died out as if it was out of gas. there was still power to the radio/lights ect. the engine would crank but not kick over. the engine would not rev upon pressing the accelerator. it was taken to dlr chevy73 by gm roadside assistance. on 4/9, around 2:30pm i spoke w/ carolyn tirelli-service advisor, who at first said there was not word of the repair. then stated she saw the tec pulling the vehicle out of the service bay. she advised it appeared he was wrapping up the repair job. at 4pm service advisor steve lambrose called and advised the tec took the car out for a test drive. said tec saw a spark, smoke then car was engulfed in flames. tried to state tec had done no repair. contrary to what carolyn tirelli advised earlier. advised fire dept was called c. jay houck fire marshall camden county 856-374-6176. steve lambrose/svc advisor advised me to also call my insurance co. geico/barbara malanga-claims adjstr/fire 800-645-7550 x5647. dealer claims to not know what problem was at all. no findings. car smells like electrical fire. but original symptoms/failure seem more like fuel line problem. no prior failures or warnings. no warning lights, stall outs or any indication anything was wrong with the vehicle. i or any passengers could have been killed or seriously injured the way this occurred. car front end broken off, hood buckled from fire or firemen. /car a little over 1yr old. still warranteed. please help/advise.*ak

This condition raises the rear center of gravity of the 4 wheel drive blazer and increases roll-over potential. i suspect the wrong axle was installed, probably one designed for a 2 wheel drive blazer. it would not be the first time gm has made parts substitutions in order to keep the assembly lines running.*ak

All of my doors sound as if they are rattling on the hinges. two different dealerships have tried to repair them a total of 4 times. chevrolet has been contacted and will do nothing about this. my brakes also make a terrible grinding noise while applying them. on 3 occassions i have almost hit my house because the brakes didn't stop me. this has also been reported to chevrolet and they will do nothing.

Motor, gas mileage vehicle only gets 3.2 to 6.7 miles per gallon and is rated at 16 city dealer has been aware also chevrolet. was put on puter by dealer and said ok,changed grade and stations per dealer to no effect kept records per dealer , my trade in only had 13,000 miles on it and show room condition,with all items added, diesiel got 14 mpg city ,want same vehicle i traded. *ak

Urgent- this will kill people please read - my 2000 chevrolet blazer rolled at 30 mph after hitting a chuck hole on the right side of the road. it threw me to the right side of the road so i brought the vehicle back onto the road at which time my steering column was going crazy and then i rolled at least once before stopping - i really thought i was dead, and my vehicle is a total loss. i have the vehicle in my possession now - because of theft related issues with allstate insurance company. i would like some help showing the world that it may not be a firestone problem, it may be a suspension problem. i can close my eyes and tell you in slow motion exactly what the vehicle did and you would think gm would want to have me interviewed -- since i lived!!! i have pictures as well if you want to have them emailed. please help. it happend in a split second, going only 30 mph 1/2 mile from my house in texas (102 degrees). *ak (dot number: ? tiresize: ?)

This outside tire carrier obscures nearly completely the drivers rear vision. i asked the dealer if there is a way to mount the tire somewhere else, they said no.

The dealer acknowledges that this problem is a long-standing problem and is the "norm for the blazers." they feel their vehicle is nonetheless safe even though it severely affects steering in cornering and turns. on extreme right curving up/down road this instability makes the vehicle feel as if it is leaving the roadway. on a rainy road if you break in the aforementioned condition, the rear end fans out left. *ak

Problem: the transmission pops out of first gear, sometimes immediately and sometimes after starting away which often causes the cars behind me to nearly rear end me. dealer has been advised and parts have been ordered. my concern is the long term safety and integrity of the unit. the problem occurs especially after the car has been driven in heavy traffic; that is a time when the chances of being injured by our crack legion of aggressive urban drivers is greatest. you'd think after 100 years of manufacturing manual transmissions that perfection would have been achieved by now. lastly, i'm not crazy about being a potential crash test dummy for a problem which should be automatically replaced, not patched.

Since day 1 when vehicle purchased, notice significant loss of power and tachometer jumps up and down with air conditioning on. this didn't occur when other blazers were driven. absolutely no pickup even at higher speeds. this creates a significant problem when in highway traffic. engine check light came on at 1400 miles, stayed on. brought in to dealer, claimed an evaporation problem and hose was "kinked" at a 90 degree angle. supposedly fixed problem, yet still have significant power loss. extremely poor gas mileage.*ak

Car wobbles (vibrates) at highway speeds. feels like flat tire or tire going to fall off. tire dealer says not a tire problem. dealership recognizes a problem but doesn't have an answer for it.*ak

Improper assembly of doors has compromised the structural integrity of the vehicle. this has caused a safety defect on the right front and rear doors of vehicle. both doors are welded improperly to vehicle body. both doors require replacement of all hinges welded to vehicle body and rear door shell requires replacement due to crease on exterior sheet metal. gm factory authorized body shop will not certify welding to be to factory specifications. this vehicle is not safe. gm has refused to exchange vehicle. it is not necessary to have a fatal injury in order to recall or fix the problem. please help. *ak

Steering gear worn. excessive "play" in steering wheel. vehicle very difficult to control. dealer identified as "normal". transmission shifts very "rough". possible universal joint failure. also identified as "normal" by dealer. loud pre-ignition noise on any acceleration. again, identified as "normal". was told by regional manager "fred" through service manager at dealership that no further action will be taken. was not allowed contact with "fred". *ak

On sept. 30, 1999 chevrolet sent a stop delivery order #99063 to the dealers. i purchased my car on oct. 30, 1999. at the time i didn't know of the defect. i was not notified till may 23, 2000. the car was illegally sold and could have caused major bodily injury. the motor was replaced on june 8, 2000 by the local dealer. i was never notified by chevrolet of this problem only the dealer of purchase (who didn't make the *ak

If parking brake is set and you attempt to move the vehicle, the bolt that secures the parking brake assembly inside the wheel fails. i think this is a potential for catastrophic brake failure if the parking brake component were to interfere with the movement of the wheels. took the vehicle to the dealership and they stated that this is a known issue and all they are doing is replacing the bolt. the state of texas vehicle inspection requires setting the parking brake and attempting to drive the vehicle, which would result in the failure of this bolt. the service advisor stated that the bolt was about the thickness of a crushed coke can. i think this bolt needs to be replaced with a more secure bolt that will not fail. *ak

The right side outside mirror cannot be properly adjusted to eliminate a blind spot. it locks in to a "normal" driving position and even the power adjustment cannot move the mirror far enought out. the preset mounted angle is wrong. i called the service manager and he told me i am not the first to complain and even he, when he was using a blazer noted that the mirror would not take a proper setting. he told me he even "called around" and was told that's the way it's comes from the factory and cannot be changed. it must be corrected so the blind spot on the right side is eliminated. *ak

It pops out of gear. seems to be 2nd and 4th. thought perhaps the shift boot was defective,.it seems to be extremely tight against the shift while in 2nd and 4th gear. it will be gear, then pop out. it's happened to me since i picked up the car on 12/29/99. it's happened to my boyfriend when he drove it. just spoke with the service people, they said it didn't happen to them. don't know what my next move is. *ak

The consumer received recall regarding the certification label which lowered the payload/ axle rating, the consumer had already installed a lightweight snowplow on the vehicle after the dealer referred him to the payload label on the inside of the door frame(certification label). both front wheel bearings have gone bad and consumer feels this could be due to overload. the consumer has asked several dealers if his vehicle is overloaded and could not give him an answer. *slc *scc

The vehicle would not start at first attempt. but when the consumer put the vehicle in neutral and put key in ignition again it started right up. then the consumer noticed that the radio was flashing numbers and words and then faded out and stopped working. the consumer stated that all these failures were due to electrical failure and wants investigation on the electrical system. *yh

Clunks of the counsumer tires (all four) treads began to come off, the tire manufacturer says the the original equipment tires were "street tires", if that is the case the consumer is concerned as to why the vehicle manufacture would put "street tires" on a 4-wheel drive vehicle, the vehicle is driven on the consumer's 1/2 mile gravel road(uniroyal tires p235/70r15 102s, e4, 0263323 radial tubeless standard load 860kg *1896 lbs) at max infl 240kg pa psi, tread plies, sidewall 2 plies, p1096306, e26280, 31329). nlm

The vehicle experienced a rollover after hitting a small pothole in the road which resulted in loss of steering control, prior to this accident the consumer complained about the stiffness of the vehicle and the suspension. nlm

Consumer received manufacturer's recall c00063-s regarding the sticker for payload information, the sticker states that the payload information is wrong on the vehicle certification label and then refers the consumer to the owner's manual, the owner's manual states to refer to the certification label for the correct information, leaving no helpful or correct information, the consumer had to call the manufacturer to receive the payload information. *slc

During manufacturing the engine bolts and transmission bolts were not inspected properly, the bolts were about to fall off when vehicle was in for a routine oil change service. *mjs

The accelerator pedal sticks upon acceleration from a stop, when the pedal is at rest. the sticking causes the driver to push a little harder to depress the accelerator. the accelerator then breaks loose and the driver has automatically accelerated heavily eventhough this is not desired. this usually occurs at start up only. while backing in a parking lot, out of a space, this happened to my wife. upon applying increasing pressure to the accelerator pedal, the pedal finally gave way and was probably depressed 1-2 inches. this caused the vehicle to rocket backward. my wife quickly hit the brakes before backing into the next row of cars, and any pedestrians that might have been near. no accident or injury resulted. i have since duplicated it twice. it always sticks somewhat upon takeoff, but my wife has begun to compensate for it. i rarely drive the vehicle. she will drrive another vehicle until we get this fixed. needless to say i find this to be a very dangerous condition/defect/engineering design with this vehicle that has a 36k mile warranty, plus a purchased 60k warranty. i contacted two area dealers, not the dealer i purchased it from. berger chevrolet in grand rapids, and john decker chevrolet in rockfrod, mi both have told me to my amazement that this is a "general maintenance" issue. they say it is common on many blazers, but some do not require the service. this tells me that some are defective, some may not be. decker charges $50 and berger charges $110 for slightly different levels of service i presume. they already told me over the phone that the throttle plate has carbon buildup on it and it needs to be cleaned off every 15-20,000 miles. i've never owned a vehicle that requires yearly service to keep the throttle/accelerator from sticking. the dealers and the general chevrolet consumer hotline people all readily admit this condition occurs frequently(800) 222 1020-jacob vanbeek-chev rep, file # c06624128.*ak
