2000 BUICK LeSabre

What a PITA this 2000 LeSabre has been. I WILL NEVER purchase another Buick.

(THE LEAST IMPACTIVE of the FIVE WINDOW Failures); on a local freeway, I touched the right passenger switch and the window dropped OPEN. Even though it was during winter months, I was able to make it home, open the door panel and wedge the window closed (DUCT TAPE). I cannot remember the details of all of the failures, but I am very fortunate that my wife was not driving in a bad neighborhood when any of them happened. The first couple of them occurred during the warranty. I asked to talk to the Zone person after the 2nd occurrence. NO JOY with that experience. I was TOTALLY IGNORED.

Thank god I have mechanical abilities (dad). I discovered that I could purchase for a whole HELL of a lot less off of the internet a new/refurb unit rather than paying the extortionist rates of the garage. ALL FOUR windows have been replaced, and the drivers window, 2X. The last was in the driveway, and I tried to open the driver’s window. You know the noise of the SNAP of the device within the door panel. I ordered a new opener within an hour. THIS NEVER SHOULD HAPPEN WITH A REPUTABLE MANUFACTURER.

can not use power on driver side door and is unsafe can not lock door in case of emergency

Window fails to move up or down. This is the 5th unit to fail. I removed the assembly and found the drive pulley is made from a plastic material which is damaged by the woven cable used to move the window. All 5 units have the same failure condition. These units cost $300.00 each to purchase at the dealer and the failed part in the assembly is a $2.00 plastic pulley. Most people would just let the dealer fix the problem and never have a idea why the failure occurs. It is a blatant design error.

We inherited this car from my mother in law 0n 10/2005, with 42,000 miles. In April, 2006, rear driver’s side power window failed-made a grinding noise, and refused to go up or down. We had it repaired at our expense. In July, 2006, front driver’s window did the same thing. We again repaired at our expense. On August 22, 2006, the rear passenger window did the same thing. Three of the same type repairs in 6 months is too much. I called Buick. I have the option to take the car for a dealership diagnosis AT MY EXPENSE, and have the repair done, out of pocket. I can them send them the receipt, at which time they will decide how much IF ANY that they will reimburse me for. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA and their main concern was “Did this cause an injury or Death?” Not yet, but when it happenes in the middle of winter or during storm, it easily could. Does someone have to be injured or killed before defective parts are recalled? The window regulators are the culprit, with the pulley being made of plastic, and the cable is very lightweight for the job it is required to do. Parts are not available, you have to replace the whole regulator-and the part runs around $300.00, not including labor.PLEASE check out www.carsurvey.org for the list of reviews on the 2000 Buick LaSabre- most (there are around 300- thats more than most other models)all have defective window complaints..some even on the same windows twice!….They have tried with Buick with no luck, and just get the repairs done on their own as we did for the 1st two windows, for the most part. Very few happened within warranty periods.This is pathetic on Buick’s (GMC) part, and a poor way to run a business. I am ready to contact the Better Business Bureau and whomever else I need to to get some action. And as a matter of fact, in JAN 2001, a technical bulletin was issued by the NHTSA concerning this same issue, but no more was done.

unintended acceleration; I was driving along Interstate 20 when the car began to increase speed by itself. I was lucky to get car stopped without an accident.

The power windows fail. The wire that pulls the window up and down is attached to the window motor with a plastic hook. This hook breaks and the window is no longer operable. It would be okay if it only happened once but I had this fixed in February of last year and it broke again this morning. Then when I used the rear driver side window it also broke and no longer will go up or down. There has to be somekind of defect.

THE POWER WINDOW REGULATORS HAVE CEASED TO WORK ON 3 DIFFERENT WINDOWS. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS PAID FOR ONE REPAIR, I PAID 500 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE SECOND WINDOW AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. I NOW HAVE A THIRD BROKEN WINDOW REGULATOR AND I DON’T FEEL AS THOUGH I SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR AGAIN.

Service engine light came on. Dealer said code was an 0741 and 0743 Showing electrical or possible tourque converter. Dealer said they were unable to duplicate. However it shuddered upon hard acceleration during merges onto freeway or turnpike ramps. The original estimate was about 3000.00. The garage finally had to take apart the transaxle to for a diagnostic.

Second time and second door Regulator & Motor Assy part that has quit working on my 2000 Buick LaSabre. The window will stopped working in the down position. When I tried to get the window up by grasping it, it would fall back down due to nothing holding it in place. My second time this has happened in 4 months, it is now my back driver side and this part is not manufactured by anyone but the GM manufacture resulting in at least $400.00 for the part which is redicules. This is apparenlty a known probably but GM will not do anything about the problem and there is no recall but many are having the same issues and replacing this part several times during the time they are owning this vehicle. It appears that the drivers side front and passenger side front are able to buy resonablly on the internet but no where can we get the back windows for the same price.

My car tends to stall out and die when I am doing long distance driving. Over easter, it died on me 4 times while driving on 58 west in California. I made attempts to contact the original owner who claims he had no problems with the car. Since then, 3 places have had the car, including the local \"AUTHORIZED\" GM dealership, who had my car for 3 days and could not find anything wrong because they could not duplicate the problem. I then contacted the Buick Division of GM, and the lady that I spoke with was supposed to do research to see if there had been any other similar problems with that same car. As it turns out, the only research she did was to call the local GM dealership and talk to them. Buick did no other research and could give me no other information and what scares me is this has happened with other people in the car, and I basically informed Buick that since they did not have the time to properly research the issues as opposed to treating me like I was a nut job, if something happened to me, my family would just sue them. It should not take someone dying or getting seriously injured in a crash to make GM step up and do the right thing. I think they have known for some time that there are numerous defects on the electrical system of this particular car and they need to be held accountable for any repairs on these cars. Due to what I have spent on this car, I cannot afford a better one. I have replaced the ful pump, the battery, battery cables, have had the alternator and starter checked, everything supposedly checks out and I am at a loss because no one can duplicate the problem and therefore they cannot tell me what is wrong and why it dies on me and I am so afraid that it will do this and I will get seriously hurt or die because i will be in spot where I cannot pull off the road.

MY 3RD & 4TH WINDOW REGULATOR(S) ARE FAILING. THUS FAR I’VE PAID WELL OVER $480.00 FOR THE 1ST TWO. NOW I’M LOOKING AT THE SAME AMOUNT AGAIN FOR THE LAST TWO. IF IT WAS ONE WINDOW, THEN I COULD UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM & WOULD NOT THINK MUCH ABOUT IT. BUT, WHEN ALL 4 FAIL; THEN, IT’S DEFINATELY A DESIGN FLAW IN BUICKS MANUFACTURING OF THIS WINDOW REGULATOR.BRITT WILSON

I have 16,500 miles on my Buick. Not many on a 2000 model. I was checking under the hood this evening and found that there is a dirty red sludge in my coolant tank, a plastic tank on the passenger side of the engine compartment. What do I do with it. I understand that the Dex-cool coolant is noted for causing problems. With the few miles on the auto I was wandering of GM was doing anything to correct such situations? Does anyone have an idea?I plan to contact the local dealer tomorrow.

car backfired and within a few seconds car was on fire

Battery goes dead intermittently. Dealer replaced: Battery, alternator & installed jumper harness as per bulletin #00-06-055cc 6c fc 95 op#j4100 & n8502 and replaced coolent relay for fan. Problem has not been resolved over 2 years now and continues.Please help.

The passenger rear window quit working. According to them, I needed a new rear window regulator. This was my 1st rear window problem. Sept 10 2010 the driver rear window quit working. This one also required a new rear window regulator at the cost of 445.41. It must be the 2nd time rear windowdiscount. The milage was 65905.

Engine Stalls or Cuts out when accelerating occasionally.

2000 buick lesabre while driving the engine will abruptly shut down.*mr the vehicle was taken tot he dealer but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the vehicle was taken to another repair facility who determine that the problem was the ignition module. once the module was replaced the stall condition recurred. *nm

2000 buick lesabre developed worn piston rings.*mr the consumer noticed that the vehicle was using excessive amounts of oil (1 quart every 600 miles). the manufacturer reimbursed the consumer for the repairs. *nm

The transmission failed at 50k miles. *ph there were two other same make/model vehicles with the same problem. the consumer suggested that gm compensate consumer's for this problem. there were ticking noises upon acceleration and there was a clunk sound when the vehicle was placed in reverse. *sc *jb

Problems with engine racing excessively.*mr the consumer stated that the conditions occurred when starting the vehicle it raced excessively. dealer was notified. *cb

While driving dash lights illuminated intermittently. the air bag light illuminated more than any other light. also, the driver's side back of seat laid automatically on its own. this incident happened while the consumer was driving. upon having a full tank of gas, the meter would read empty. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the consumer was told that there was an electrical problem. *ak there was a noise in the dash, the fuel gauge would jump to empty, the speedometer would go to zero, the headlight would go dim when the weather was rainy, there was a rumble in the left front end, a shimmy when the brakes were applied and when raining, the dash light would go from bright to dim the air bag light was intermittent, the radio would cut out, the driver's seat was inoperative, the transmission would slip into overdrive on slight acceleration, the automatic doors were inoperative, the cruise control was inoperative, there were intermittent loss of heat would start blowing cold air, the oil pressure light would come on while the fuel gauge mileage would not stay on, the electrical remote was inoperative, and there was a leak in the engine. *sc

Gas lines are rusty and look like they are about to leak gas and also i got stuck on highway because gas gauge did not work because ground wire to sender was broken

Engine mounts are loose and need replacement because they make jerking sounds when i speed up or slow down making for extra movements in car

Brake lines rusting even though i replaced the rusty brake lines before. the first time they rotted through and i could not stop but fortunately i was going slow and used emergency brake.

All but the 1 drivers side seatbelts wont lock in place for the safety of the passengers

Leaking oil onto exhaust manifold causing burning smell and smoke which permeates passenger compartment. this car has the 3.8 series ll engine which has a recall for this problem on the regal but not the lesabre. this is definitely a problem on the lesabre too. why is it not included in the recall? often happens while driving but the last time was when i had just pulled into my driveway and smoke poured out from the hood. using the recirculating air setting seems to help smoke from entering the cabin. why is this not included in the factory recall!! *tr

While driving at highway speeds a vehicle started to back out of a driveway. when i attempted to honk my horn, it would not work. this created a very hazardous condition for me and the occupants of the car! i have checked both the fuse and the horn relay and find no defects. the horn works only intermittently at best and is not reliable in a dangerous situation. *tr

The dash-pad has separated... and curled! the entire top dash-pad has lifted 2 inches, directly in front of the driver's steering wheel.....this is causing a severe safety hazard! visibility has been blocked! i am afraid for my safety! please investigate!

The fuel gauge indicates properly until it reaches the halfway mark. it then fluctuates and is not reliable. this could lead to running out of fuel in traffic, in-climate conditions or in isolated areas without indication. this is a safety hazard that seems to be prevalent on these vehicles and needs to be addressed!

While driving the vehicle on dry pavement at approximately 30 mph i heard a chime and the abs light illuminated on the dash board. the light went out the next time i drove the car and then returned. this light signifies that i have "lost" the benefit of abs braking on this vehicle. this condition could jeopardize the safety of the driver and occupants as braking efficiency could be dramatically reduced. *tr

I turn the ignition over didn't it did not even start yet a loud went boom and up under the hood was blazing with fire than my doors locked i could not get out i had to kick the opposite side and then i got out i had to call sleep fire rescue squad the fire was so bad it was going up under my carport and almost caught my roof on fire and almost did and did a little bit

Complete tire separation from steel belts of tire construction while car was being driven on interstate highway. tire had high amount of tread life remaining beforehand and this happened with absolutely no warning. very dangerous to occupants and caused physical and aesthetic damage to vehicle. do not know what the cost of the repair will be at this time.

I had problem with windows not rolling up and down. after i took my buick to pep boys 3325 124th ave nw coon rapids mn electric mechanic found out that my window power switch is damaged after rain storm. later i experienced the following problems with vehicle: 1 strange engine noise while running 2 pushing forward once release foot from brake. pep boys mechanic looked at all these problems and told me everything looks ok but i need to get engine diagnostic done with pep boys. i got schedule for that. meanwhile i ended up in car traffic problem because of fire of my vehicle.

On two occasions so far in 2018, my buick engine would start itself. once when i closed the glove box and another time when i closed the passenger door. both times the ignition key was absent and the car was stationary. my guess is ignition switch. Car stalls while driving

The vehicle's throttle apparently becomes stuck open, which causes the vehicle to accelerate to a high rate of speed and become difficult to stop. it has occurred while the car is in park or when accelerating from a stop on city streets or when accelerating on an interstate ramp.

Dash is separating causing it to pull apart at passenger airbag and glove compartment. worried air bag will deploy and harm someone or not work at all. can't open glove compartment anymore.

As i was driving my buick lesabre 2000 my windows lock up on me it was a very hot summer so the electrical windows with no go up and down. the engine is bad. 1490000 miles. electrical system is problems. the car wiring is loose and can be a dangerous. i tried to pull window down and repair its manually frozen with no power. my seat are uncomfortable with hard iron wire.

Car windows and gas gauge haven't worked in a long time however now the car will not start consistently even with a brand new battery. you have to charge the battery every time to start it. ready to get rid of this worry.

There was a clicking sound on the right passenger side for about 30 seconds coming down my driveway and then it stopped. i thought maybe a small tree branch got stuck in my wheel well, so i continued onto the highway and drove about 6 miles and stopped at an animal shelter. white smoke started to come from under the car so i popped the hood and got out just as black smoke started and as was going to open the hood the flames were coming out from under the hood and someone used two fire extinguishers and then two water hoses to put out the fire. the car is a total loss and i don't understand what happened, because it was in excellent condition. someone at the scene thought it was an electrical problem. the car had been in excellent condition and very clean under the hood. and i had it serviced regularly.

While driving the vehicle at 35 mph, the dashboard check engine light illuminated. the engine idle speed became erratic and the vehicle stalled. upon scanning the computer for fault codes, a p0102 code was found. the mass airflow sensor and the idle control valve were both replaced, however the p0102 fault and check engine light re-appeared the next day. i have found hundreds of complaints online for the identical problem that buick lesabre owners are experiencing with no solid "cure" for the problem. this condition is un-safe and renders the vehicle unreliable for driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 buick lesabre. while driving 50 mph, the engine lost power during acceleration and the battery and security warning lights illuminated. the vehicle restarted and the gears had to be changed before the vehicle resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the battery and alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the key needed to be reprogrammed. the remedy failed to repair the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 180,000. the vin was not available.

While driving this vehicle the bolts on my rear brake pad broke in half and the car was unable to move forward, had to drive my car backwards home luckily i was only a block away from home. the 2 front windows will not roll up or down, keep having to replace the hose that leads to my radiator, when i make right turns the car vibrates, two front seat belts have stop locking all together and this vehicle has never been in any sort of crash or accident, front dash is starting to lift considerably. i adore my vehicle and i'm not looking forward to getting rid of it, but there are too many problems to deal with on this car. *tr

The upper dashboard has separated from the car as it is raised from the left corner to the middle of the dashboard, at the front of the dashboard closest to the windshield. in some places it is over 6 inches raised. it continues to worsen, moving over to the right side of the dash closer to the passenger airbag. i am concerned that this might cause the passenger airbag to go off by mistake. it has also reached the height where driver frontal vision is beginning to be slightly impaired because of this defect. i am aware that this is an inherent problem with these dashboards in this model vehicle. i have contacted gm and they have offered no assistance. this vehicle has been garaged and not out in the sun more than usual. *tr

While i am drivin speed of 40/50/ car cuts of . then is stalls tryn to start back up. some time rite away it does .some times is takes as long as 15 mins to 20 mins to start back up .also when i stop braks jerk as if maninfold is messing up .and the windows wont roll up some times. so please help is there in defects or recalls for this vehicle buick 2000 lesabre??????????

Front suspension noise due to broken sway bar links rusted front right and front left. front brake lines and fuel line badly rusted but not leaking yet. if front fuel line leaks it will leak onto engine rear to cause fire. if front brake line leaks i will not be able to stop car. i had reported to nhtsa when my rear brake lines leaked preventing me from stopping in 2011 but luckily i was going very slow. my driver side window failed preventing me from opening window,needing replacement in may 2014. *tr

(the least impacting of the five window failures); on a local freeway, i touched the right passenger switch and the window dropped open. even though it was during winter months, i was able to make it home, open the door panel and wedge the window closed (duct tape). i cannot remember the details of all of the failures, but i am very fortunate that my wife was not driving in a bad neighborhood when any of them happened. the first couple of them occurred during the warranty. i asked to talk to the zone person after the 2nd occurrence. no joy with that experience. i was totally ignored. thank god i have mechanical abilities (dad). i discovered that i could purchase for a whole hell of a lot less off of the internet a new/refurb unit rather than paying the extortionist rates of the garage. all four windows have been replaced, and the drivers window, 2x. the last was in the driveway, and i tried to open the driver's window. you know the noise of the snap of the device within the door panel. i ordered a new opener within an hour. this never should happen with a reputable manufacturer. *tr

The key comes out of the ignition cylinder lock. i have had my key replaced twice. the security light comes on and the car dash says unknown driver. even though i have had the keys replaced which, when aaa had a locksmith come out to make me a key, the technician says that the cylinder lock had been filed down. with this possibly being the issue it is very dangerous for me and 8 year old daughter. the key should never come out of the cylinder lock and now my mechanic is talking like this has likely caused problems for the bcm. i am needing some assistance in this matter. the car starts when it wants to and if it doesn't start it takes a couple of days then resets. this is a big headache when this is the only transportation i have to get to work and take my daughter to school. *tr

Starting early june my son called me to inform me that the buick was stalling out on him all the time. he said that he could be driving at any speed and the car would just shut off, causing all electrical, steering, and brakes to not work. he attends school in western pennsylvania in the mountains and this worried me. i had the vehicle serviced and each time was diagnosed with different things and nothing fixed the problem. i have since switched vehicles with him for his safety and have contacted my local buick dealership to find that the ignition cylinder is the cause of the failure that the ignition cylinder is periodically loosing connection to the key which has a chip in it (quits talking to), and shuts the vehicle off. like an alarm feature. the dealership informed me that this has been an on going problem with the lesabre and other vehicles for quite a while. in order to fix it i will have to purchase a new ignition cylinder, possibly a couple of keys, have them sent to a locksmith, get them keyed to the cylinder, then install the new ignition cylinder. yet it is not one of the vehicles listed on the gm ignition recall list. how can such a safety issue go overlooked and also unreported. the vehicle is an excellent vehicle while running but i feel that gm should face the fact and take ownership for all of these ignition failures not just a few makes and models but all gm manufactured vehicles. this is an extreme safety issue, my son said he was nearly rearended when the vehicle shut off on him a number of times at different speeds while trying to pull off the road for safety. or he was stuck holding up the flow of traffic with people beeping at him while he had to wait in the middle of the road till the car would start again. pretty scary!!! thank you,! and please look out for the little guy and hold gm responsible. *js

At times when attempting to switch from high beam to low beam lights turn off . when this happens there is a car coming other way. *tr

I have replaced all 4 window regulators twice. i have done research, and it appears many have the same issue. buick claims to sell "luxury" this is far from luxury and is unsafe! driving 65mph and the windows just go down....then won't go back up! my car had to sit outside with both back windows down! *tr

Engine shuts off while driving, so far, only at lower speeds. sometimes, by putting in neutral and turning key, engine starts again. other times, it has to set for a while. put new battery in 11/7/2013. problem persisted. three auto repair shops, including a buick dealership, have checked it out, but it does not die on them in the amount of time its in their possession so i was told there was nothing they could do. typically, it happens after it is driven at least 20 miles. came very close to being rear-ended as i was unable to pull off the road enough to be out of the way on a road with hills and blind spots. *tr

The dash pad started peeling up, from the windshield side directly in front of the driver, approximately 2007. every year it curled up more & more, by 2013 it had lifted about 3". i contacted buick around 2010 about this defect, they did nothing. after researching this defect i have found hundreds of other buick owner have had this same issue. this curling defect can particularly block one's field of view, especially short drivers who may not even be aware the dash is curling up. *tr

Could not stop, brake fluid lost, rusted rear brake lines. drivers side window does not go down and then starts working day after. front brake lines also rusted and am afraid i will have accident if brakes fail again. only rear brakes were replaced. it looked like brake line had been rubbing on body ,making a hole in rusted brake line. *tr

When backing out of my garage, the brake system lost all pressure. upon inspection, the rear brake crossover line was found to be leaking as a result of corrosion over it's entire length. *tr

Dashboard cover lifting at driver side sight-line approximately at 1 o'clock position (straight ahead is 12 o'clock) over about a one foot width, where dashboard meets windshield . height of rise maybe only an inch now but getting worse. headliner also falling from overhead blocking driver's rearward view through rear view mirror. *tr

The fuel gauge does not read correctly. it will bounce from 1/4 a tank to 1/2 a tank to full. it is always all over the place. this is a sign of a bad fuel sending unit (its a sensor). there needs to be a recall for this, so i know how much gas i have in the car, i can't keep dumping $10/$20 a week. *tr

The driver's side window was stuck and would not come back up, it was fixed and two years later broke again, and the rear window on the driver's side did the same thing. this happened in the middle of winter, in the midwest, with temperatures in the teens. we had to duct-tape the window closed to be able to drive the car in freezing temperatures. i cannot believe the same car has had 3 issues in 2 years with the window mechanisms! something is terribly wrong, and it has cost over $600 to fix the car! the repairs do not last. apparently the manufacturer uses cheap plastic parts which break. are we never supposed to use an atm or a drive-through? it is very dangerous not to have windows go back up, especially in rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. *tr

We have had to replace all four power window motors. the first one, we made the mistake of taking it to a dealer and it cost around $400-$500. the others we ordered the part and replaced it ourselves which cost around $100-$150 depending on the window. now, the one we replaced two years ago is broke again. this needs to be recalled. if a child just happened to be in the car on the side the window broke on, there could be serious injury. gm needs to recall this unless they want a lawsuit on their hands! *tr

Dash pad cover material has separated from the dash pad base. issue is seen on many 2000-2005 buick lesabre automobiles. manufacturing defect that needs a senior brand manager to step up to the plate for a solution to the high number of dissatisfied owners like me. i also have a 2002 lesabre custom that is doing the exact same thing. i will file a complaint on that unit as well. *tr

Transmission no longer shifts into 3rd or overdrive. with shifter in overdrive and in stopped position once you take your foot off the brake to begin acceleration the torque converter slams to a stop and the engine shuts off. transmission fluid full at all times, engine warmed up. repeated stalling, repeated tachometer quits. repeated engine quits when you place in overdrive from neutral. must start movement by placing in lower gears 1 2 or 3. this transmission never shifts out of second gear. put it on code analyzer and got 2 codes that indicated pc solenoid torque converter solenoid issues. seems like these 2000 buicks have recurring defects and gm won't standby their product. why on earth would a company that designs cars ever put a battery under a car seat. one spark with hydrogen gas under that seat could kill an infant in a car seat if it exploded.. come on!!! *tr

When the car was purchased there were no dashpad flaws. car was and still is garage kept. the dashpad has been lifting across the entire width of the pad from front to rear and exposing the structure underneath. this includes the passenger side airbag area which the dash pad is completly lifted and not sure if airbag is exposed. *tt

This car began to show signs of front end wobble a few months ago. this means it feels like the wheels shake from side to side mostly when accelerating from 30 to 45 mph. i took it to the dealer about a month ago but he said he only felt it one time while driving it several blocks around the dealership neighborhood. i took it to firestone immediately after i left the dealership and they balanced the bridgestone tires and the wobble seemed to be lessened. i then took it home and replaced the rear rotors and brake pads as they seems to vibrate when we put the parking brake on while driving. this seemed to help smooth it out at the time. this is my wife's car so she drives it and in less than a month she said it is wobbling again. i drove it again tonight and it is much worse than before so i believe there is something seriously wrong with this suspension. this car has been under a warranty from warranty warehouse for the past seven years and we have had some repairs made at the dealer and each time we ask them to check the front end as it made grinding noises and never seemed to handle as it should. each time the dealer said it was ok. this appears to be a problem with many reports on the internet regarding front end issues with buick lesabres. we also had the drivers side seat repaired under warranty and it has not worked properly since it was repaired. we have had it back for this issue at least three times. updated 10/4/11 *cn updated 10/31/11 *bf *tr

My dashboard started to separate from the drivers side and is going over to passengers side airbag. half way there now.i'm worried about the airbag going off when i'm driving. the dealer says it cannot be fixed that it needs to have a whole new dashboard put in. i think this is happening to alot of the buick lesabres. it just keeps going little by little everyday over to the passenger side and i'm worried. i don't think i should have to be the one to pay for this product that was faulty in the first place. *tr

My wife was driving our 2000 buick lesabre ltd home from work and her brakes went to the floor when she tried to stop at a traffic light. she was able to stop, but the brakes were barely there. she was able to get the car home without incident, and i checked it out when she got home. i found that there was almost no brake fluid left in the reservoir. i took my other vehicle to the store and bought some brake fluid and refilled the reservoir and checked under the vehicle for leaks. i found that the brake lines had rotted out in the center of the vehicle between the rear wheels, directly behind the compressor motor for the load leveling shocks that are on this vehicle. i took it to the local buick dealership the next day, and they confirmed what i had found, that the rear brake lines were rusted and rotted out. i asked about a safety recall or service bulletin on this issue but they said there was none. i found it very odd that there was no signs of corrosion anywhere else on the underside of the vehicle or on the brake lines other than directly behind the compressor motor for the shocks. they replaced both rear brake lines at a cost to me of $568.31. *tr

Three of the power window regulators have failed on my 2000 buick lesabre limited. the windows may all of a sudden just drop down and the electric motor will not close them although you can hear the motors running. i've read this is an extremely common problem and a equipment defect on buick cars with power windows which has not been corrected. i have replaced one window regulator and the others i have just blocked the windows closed. this could be a very dangerous situation if one of the windows was to suddenly just drop down while drive in a heavy rain or over bad weather which could cause a distraction and accident. *tr

My car is buick lesabre 2000 custom with 84k miles. the engine exploded when i jump start it. *tr

1) first time driving, 2nd time car was parked. neither time were the windows being used. 2) both times power regulator had to be replaced. there were no consequences, but could have been if children were in the back seat while driving or on a cold night. 3) old part is not available. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 buick lesabre. while the contact was driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly increased acceleration up to 70 mph. the brake pedal was applied numerous times with extensive force and the vehicle continued to accelerate. the contact down shifted to a lower gear, followed by no response. the speed rate reduced between 10-15 mph when the gears were shifted into the reverse position which allowed the vehicle to stop properly while the brakes were applied. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for storage due to the safety issue pertaining to the acceleration malfunction. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 156,000.

On june 25, 2010 approx 8:30 pm our 2000 buick lesabre was sitting by our house, not running, no keys in it. we heard a huge bang/backfire. the car had been parked since 4:00 pm. we saw a huge amount of smoke and fire as high as the porch deck roof. immediately called 911. the hood was blown apart, the windshield blown in, rear view mirror & visors blown off. the car was completely totaled; everything on the engine melted, radiator gone, tires melted & tire rims look like they were blown outward. it was a very huge explosion & we did find the odi report ea 02-030 for recalls #03034 & #03054 for explosions/fires in this buick. the recalls for our vehicle were completed and done in 2005 for the above items of "fuel regulator causing defective/leaking fuel reg asm etc. or coolant causing improperly seal throttle body" this vehicle was always a good running car with few problems and a car should not blow up just sitting still, so obviously the problems were not sufficiently corrected. the only event before this was that when the ignition was turned off at 4:00pm the passenger door lock was clicked at the same time and we heard a big clunk kind of sound. our mechanics who viewed the vehicle and all who saw it never saw something that bad and all said that we would most likely have been killed if we had been in the car when it blew up. the vehicle is presently still sitting in the exact spot where it blew up as requested by gmc, but it will need to be moved before snow plowing as it is 6'6" from our house steps and is a hazard to our residence. we told gmac that we would be removing it before aug. 30th, however, they have not inspected it as of yet. other property damage includes melted vinyl siding on our home, damage to deck paint, much needing power washed & damage to tar driveway, plus soot damage. have many pictures, if you have e-mail address. *tr

Driver's window regulator inoperable. rear window on same side same thing, but repaired in late 2004 - bought used but rear windows not used by me at all. driver window used often, but this would be the second $500+ bill to have it repaired. it seems there has been a known problem for quite some time, but i have not found anything that says it has been addressed. car now has over 100k miles and i'm having a hard time justifying the expenditure. also entire dashboard cover 'lifting' up more than six inches. told by a repair shop that the only way to fix it is to take out the front windshield - another $500 to shell out. also has noise of metal rubbing coming from rear, but cause cannot be pinpointed. sounds like a large piece of something. took everything out of the trunk to be sure there was nothing in there causing the sound, even took out the carpet and board covering the onstar machinery. repair shop can't find the cause either. shocks were replaced with the best available in early 2007. this car has one user, me, for the last six years. i have spent literally thousands in an effort to keep it in good shape, but one thing after another is happening. *tr

My 2000 buick lesabre custom sedan. the drivers and right rear windows suddenly drop open fully without warning due to failure of electric motor of each window cannot power them back up because of a failure of the lift mechanism. this repair costs 400.00 per window and is a known common failure of the 2000 to 2005 models. recently occurred to driver;s window on may 7, during a rainstorm and had to pull over and stop; luckily on low traffic street at time. rear window drop occurs more often and each time, i stop and with both hands raise the window and place paper shims to hold the window up. this presents a dangerous situation if it occurs on a busy highway/street as the driver suddenly loses focus temporarily. and is placed in a dangerous position as it is known that crashes occur in mere seconds during highway speeds when drivers take their attention away from driving. this is a common failure on the early 2000=2005 lesabres and buick should be required to correct this common failure. *tr

Driver-side front window fell suddenly while driving. *tr

All four power windows have failed one by one. won't stay up. seats are being ruined by rain / snow. no security while driving or parked. *tr

On december 12, 2009, i was driving down the road and made a right hand turn. at that time, my car made a loud noise (my husband thought i ran over a trash can) the brakes immediately came on and the car pulled to the right. i moved forward again and immediately the brakes came on again and pulled the right. the stability system activated came on. i had to drive very slow to get my car home and this happened the whole way. i was very close to my home. a computer has been put on the car and the codes don't make sense to the mechanic. the car was then towed to the garage, has been there since 12/17/09 and they can not figure out what is going on. if i would have been out on the highway we would have been killed. what auto co. would put a system on your vehicle that would throw your brakes on for no reason. *tr

I placed the shift lever in reverse and depressed the accelerator pedal. the car accelerated rapidly. i depressed the brake pedal very hard and held it down. the car alternately stopped, accelerated, stopped, accelerated etc 3 or 4 times before coming to a full stop: total distance traveled - approximately 30 feet. i repeated the above procedure in forward gear and got the same result. prior to this incident the throttle system did not appear sticky or off-normal. post incident, the throttle appeared slightly sticky. approximately 18 months ago i reported a sticky throttle to my buick dealer, they serviced the throttle system and the problem was solved. as stated above, the throttle did not give indication of a problem this time. *tr

Pulling back the "smart stick" to change head beams from lo to hi requires effort that many not be enough so ... the hi beam becomes a "passing" hi beam. once achieved to hi beam and released, a second pull back of the "smart stick" and releasing may turn off both hi & lo beams altogether! so pull back the 'smart stick' a second time and release. always works the second attempt. *tr

Purchased a used buick lesabre limited 2000. found that the front right power window was failing. the window regulator doesn't work, and the window repeatedly falls down, must be pulled up with both hands. looked in http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_52823.html, and found there were dozens of repeating window regulators failures reported in this model , buick lesabre limited 2000-2005. this was a consistent and persistent problem that cost about $400 per repair, and may be it was about time this be dealt with seriously by the nhtsa.*ak

March 30th, 2007 car ran rough and service engine soon light came on. a bad odor also was permeating into the car while going down the road. car went back to the dealer on the 31st and they had the car until the 3rd of april. i drove the car about two miles and the car did exactly what it was doing before when i dropped it off. i dropped the car back off the next day on the 4th they had it until saturday the 7th. they said they changed the spark plugs and that was what was wrong. i drove the car and everything was fine until friday the 13th. i went to start the car in the morning and it wouldn't start right away. when it did it stunk so bad from to much gas from trying to start it. i ran it that day and it ran rough a few times and didn't call the dealer. i loaned my car to my brother friday night and i didn't tell him about the starting problem or the running roughly. he went to start the car after work on saturday morning and it wouldn't start right away for him. he got it going and he told me that it ran rough and bucked and jerked. when he brought the car back to me it sat in my driveway for about four hours. my wife went to start it and put it into the garage for the night and she could not get it to start she had to come and get me to get it going. i called the dealer on monday the 16th and they told me to bring it in the next day. i did so and they sent it to a garage to have it looked at. about 2:00 on wednesday the 18th i stopped to see if it was fixed and they said it was that it was the spark plugs again the garage didn't put premium plugs in. they told me that they washed my car for my inconveniences. also the fuel mileage on the car was 20 mpg which is extremely low it should get 30-32 mpg. i told them this also. so i got the car back and today the 19th of april the car is having problems running properly. i returned the car and they wont call me at all. i feared my children's safety in this car. *jb

During normal operation, my electric windows have stopped working due to faulty cords in the window regulator motors. the windows slide down into the car door and will not come back up. i 've had to drive to dealership with the windows down to get the part replaced. i have had to replace all four window regulators in my car at my expense. the latest incident occurring on april 18, approximately one month after the third of four to fail on march 27. the dealer acknowledges that there is a problem with the window design but gm has not recalled the part. *tr

All four (4) window regulators in my 2000 buick lesabre custom have failed, driver's side first, then front passenger, then left rear, then right rear, and now the front passenger has failed again. i bought the car new in 2000, and have been very satisfied with everything else. all of these have been outside of the warranty period. *jb

I have a 2000 buick lesabre with 52000 miles on it. when the fuel gauge drops below 1/2 tank it starts moving erratically. it will move up to full and then drop down to 1/4 tank, just moves back and forth so below 1/2 tank i don't know how much fuel i have. it also confuses the fuel system computer in the driver information center so that is not reliable either. i just have to keep track of my mileage and based on fuel economy i determine when i need to buy gas. i can't find any recall information for the 2000 model but read some where that a later year model had this same problem and the only fix is to replace the fuel tank where the sensor is located. this is not only faulty engineering it is incompetent engineering. *jb

Bought 2000 model buick lesabre in 2003 with 32000 miles on it. i have had 3 power window regulators fail (two back windows and now the front passenger side window). both rear failures caused window to drop down into door. regulator replaced with oem part at $375 each. the front window regulator failed with the window in the up position so i have not had it repaired yet. *jb

Left passenger window dropped down, regulator needs to be replaced; this is a pretty obvious malfunction of the regulators since what it holds the glass is a very delicate plastic part. i have done so much research about the same problems with this type of issues from model's years ranging 2000-2004. nothing seems to be done to solve or better improve the part that causes the window glass to drop down.*jb

Have a 2000 buick lesabre (custom) both regulators (passenger and driver side) on the rear windows have failed. the first was in november of 2005 and the second was august of 2006. both regulators were replaced by the dealer under the extended warranty. in both cases, the windows were down and would not go up. *jb

Bought 2000 lesabre new in oct 1999. wife's car and only has 69000 mi on it now. no children using the car. no children at home, rarely any passengers in the car. now..to date all four window regulators have been replaced at a total cost of over $1,600.00. the driver's side window went first in 2003, in 2006 all three remaining window went out within months of each other, these windows almost never were used! it is hard for me to believe that there aren't more incidents of these regulator failures. i can't be the one that got all the bad regulators. *nm

We heard a noise in the front of the car. we took it to the repair shop and was told we needed a bearing in the transmission and the 4th clutch. the car only has 63,000 miles. we had the parts replaced. *jb

Lf power window failed twice, repaired under warranty. lr window failed twice, once under warranty and once out of warranty. gm wanted $500.00 to repair lr window out of warranty. after several weeks of haggling with gm, they repaired it for $100.00. rf and rr windows failed later and have never been repaired. gm knows that they have a factory defect but will not acknowledge the fact. *jb

2000 buick lesabre all four window regulators on my parents car have failed beginning with the first one in 2002 (repaired by the dealer under the warranty). two others failed in after the warranty expired in february 2004 and october 2004 respectively (repaired by a reputable repair shop but not a buick dealer). the fourth window failed recently but has not been repaired. my mother complained to buick several times and after being promised full reimbursement for the two failures in 2004, was sent a check for only half the promised amount and advised nothing else would be covered. because the car was purchased in new jersey but had been relocated to florida - neither state would cover anything under their respective lemon laws. gm insists this is not a wide spread problem although in a quick 15 minute search of the web i found over 175 complaints (all of who said gm stated the same thing). *jb

Suspected transmission problems began before the 36,000 warranty ran out, but, since it couldn't be replicated, i couldn't take it to a dealer for diagnosis. no problems were ever recognized by computer. the first time was when backing from the garage, the car lurched to a near stop as if the brakes had been applied. i pulled forward and when i backed up, no problems were encountered. the next time, probably months later, happened when making a left turn out of our driveway under very little acceleration. it felt as if something had bound up, then, freed up 2 times. nothing was noted again for months. since new, the car has not shifted into overdrive until the car reaches an engine temperature of approximately 160 degrees. the next time i noticed a problem was when turning right into a parking place. the car made a single lurch, as if applying the brakes quite hard, then proceeded into the parking place. that was probably a month ago. during the last 2 weeks i think i've noticed a slight vibration when the transmission shifted into overdrive when completely warmed up. two days ago when leaving a stop light with traffic, the car felt like i hit a slick spot for a fraction of a second and continued on as normal. i got out onto a u.s. hwy and when i got up to about 55 mph, i think when the car shifted into overdrive it downshifted once and then again, rather like the brakes were being applied. i pulled to the side of the road then slowly picked up speed again. it happened for a second time. i slowly drove to the next exit and after stopping, had trouble getting started up. finally it moved as if it were in about 3rd gear. after that time, it is in a forward (3rd gear) even when starting the vehicle up in park and when in neutral. it has no reverse. the vehicle is a 2000 lesabre with only 53,000 miles on it. it's sunday and i haven't taken it to see what's wrong with it yet. i'm very upset about it. *jb

Power window assembly on the passenger's side front door have to be replaced for the second time as the cables become entangled and cause the mechanism to bend to the point where it will no longer lift the window. this has happened an all of the doors (4) and now on this door for the second time. it costs a minimum of $300.00 to $400.00 to for parts and labor to get the window back in working order. i have now spent over $1200.00 and am looking at another $300.00 to $400.00 for this same problem. i have also been told by the body shops that this is a common problem with the buick lesabre's. it is no wonder gm is not selling the vehicles that they used to here in the states. this is totally disgusting and frustrating.*jb

Dt*: the contact stated the power windows were held up by a plastic strap and the strap broke. this caused the window to fall down. this occurred on all four windows. the vehicle was taken to the dealership each time, and the entire window mechanism must be replaced. when replaced, the problem does not return.

2000 buick lesabre had problems with the fuel pressure regulator. *ts the consumer found a recall on the fuel pressure regulator on his vehicle. the consumer had the same repair as mentioned in the recall and had his vehicle repaired in december 2004. the consumer never received recall 04v090000. the consumer request reimbursement for the repairs. the consumer also had numerous problem with the fuel injection system. *nm *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the electronic control modules for three of the power windows failed. the rear driver's side and passenger's side were replaced twice. the front passenger side has also been replaced once. the dealership claimed if the window is seldom used it will break when used because the wire is thin and jumps off the track, causing it to snap. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated the left front drive axel has failed three times and has been replaced twice. prior to the failures there was a clicking noise heard near the right front wheel area, and a slight vibration in the steering wheel. this occurs upon deceleration. the steering wheel felt stiff while turning left. there is an excessive amount of grease on the outside and underneath the vehicle.

The rear driver side power window failed. there was a loud pop and the window slid down and would not go back up. i talked to a mechanic and he said that this has happened quite often recently. he said the cable broke. it just takes a little tension and pop, it happens! i called the dealer and they said a new part costs $315! i called to see if there is an after market on this part and they said that you can get it for the front but not the rear door! it seems to me that buick knows that this power window part is faulty and cannot let out the rights to other manufacturers to produce this! this should be recalled on all 2000 to 2005 buick lesabres. *nm

Dt: the contact stated the steering wheel was making a roaring sound when making a turn. this happened at low speeds. the vehicle was taken to a certified dealership for inspection. the dealership determined the tie-rod needed to be replaced. *ak

Hard starting, lack of power, hesitation gm dealer diagnosed intake leak by egr valve (air and coolant leaks) dealer replaced intake plenum (non warranty). *nm

2000 buick lesabre caught fire in my driveway.....not used for 24 - 48 hours. *nm

Dt: the contact stated the battery leaked fumes and fluid inside the car while driving. there was an odd smell that lingered in the vehicle. she took the vehicle to a service shop and reported the odor. the mechanic suggested it may be the catalytic converter. she had no repairs performed at that time. afterwards, the engine would not start. further investigation led to the discovery of battery leakage in the back seat area. a new battery was purchased from a dealer and replaced. there have been no further problems at this time. *ak updated 12/07/05. *jb

I have a 2000 buick lasabre. 3 of 4 electric window motors broke. i have replaced only one of the motors,due to they are $300 each. i feel these motors have a defect or this many would not have failed. *nm

I purchased my 2000 buick-lesabre in 2002. shortly after i had to replace the back left window motor, then i had to replace the front right window motor, then a short time later i had to replace the right back window motor and just last week i had to replace the front driver side window motor. i feel that with only one person driving this car and not using the windows that much i have had an unusual break down of windows. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. i have own three buicks before and never had any problems with the windows. this has happened over a three year period. *jb

The electric windows mechanism fails resulting in replacement at $500 per window each time. all four window mechanisms have had to be replaced in a 2 yr. period. now the driver's side window works at times, and will not work at times. this will be the 5th window replacement. ridiculous that there is no recall on these mechanisms. a friend has the same vehicle and he has had to replace his also. *jb

Car was bought brand new by my wife's parents who shortly thereafter died and we inherited car. garage kept and hardly used. after we had it 1 year when my wife tried to put her passenger side window down it wouldn't go down. i thought the motor had gone bad and prepared to take it to the dealer. before appointment i avoided using that window and one day tried to open the back driver's side window. it went down but made a noise and never was able to come up. i thought again it was just bad luck. the following sunday i was at a store with another car and notice a car that looked exactly like our buick with tape on it's rear window. i thought my wife had driven our buick to the store. it wasn't our car so i waited for owner and questioned him about having problems with his windows. it was the second window that had broken on him. further investigating on internet and with others aware of the car found that there are many with problem. i call buick who said car was out of warranty but when i told them i had been to your website to file a complaint buick said if i took it to dealer, and was willing to pay for a diagnosis they would determine whether they could help me. turns out the car needs a regulator and motor cable and guide:l cost $400.00. doesn't this seem like a manufacturer defect especially when they fix the problem with the same part and it goes bad too. go to www.autobytel.com and looked at all the complaints on that website over this same issue. we opened the rear windows maybe a handful of times because the car had air conditioning and we usually used the air. now 2 of the windows have problem. it is definitely a safety hazard if you can't open the window or can't close it. what if a child locks the doors while in the car with the keys and can't open car with handle. buick's actions indicates that they know they have a problem. i called them with the diagnosis but buick has not called back and impression is that they don't want to deal with it. *jb

We purchased a new 2000 buick lasabre from mike shaw buick dealership, 1080 s. colorado blvd., denver, co 80222 on 9-13-1999. april 2005 the passenger side front window regulator failed. mike shaw dealership did the repairs. they did waive the labor for this, because we felt and still do, that this is a mechanical defect. bill $310.35. sept. 13, 2005, another window failed, same problem, only this was the rear driver's side window. again we had the repairs made at mike shaw dealership, but this time they would not give us any satisfaction on this bill of $483.38. we feel that this is a mechanical defect. the exact same thing has happened on another buick owned by our son. if needed i can forward copies of these invoices to you. *jb

Dt: the contact stated his vehicle had a defective fuel pressure regulator. nhtsa recall, 04v090000 was issued concerning fuel pressure regulator, but this vehicle was not included due to vin. this caused the vehicle not to start. it has been a problem since september 2002. the fuel pressure regulator was replaced at that time and it failed again ten days ago. the fuel pressure regulator has been replaced again with a newer part. *ak updated 11/29/05. *jb

We purchased our 2000 lesabre as a program car with 12,000 miles. beginning shortly thereafter three power widows went out. they were replaced at no charge. now with 85,000 mile the fourth went out and it cost us $400 plus dollars. of course they said it was out of warranty because of the mileage. we had over nine cars with power windows and never had to replace one, and now one vehicle all four had to be replaced. to me that tells me that there was a problem with the window motors. i could understand one going out, but all four? *nm

Dt:the contact had the window regulator replaced three times. the first time was the right front window, the second time was the right rear window, and third time was the left rear window. the first two times they were replaced under warranty, the third time it was at the consumers expense. also, was having a problem with windshield wiper blade post on both sides. while driving during a rain storm on the interstate, the windshield wiper on the driver's side stopped working and on the passenger's side it worked intermittently. the windshield wipers were repaired under warranty. *ak updated 11/16/05. *jb

For the 7th time since i have owned this vehicle, a window has fallen down into the door. this has been a recurring problem since i purchased the vehicle new in 2000. up until now i have not had to pay for the repairs, but this one is going to cost $400. the dealer states the guarantee is only good for one year, so i may have to pay $1,600 a year to keep my windows in working order. i feel this is unreasonable and there should be a recall to permanently fix the problem.

All four electric windows failed. the first one was 3 months after warranty expired. the last one was june of 2005. the cost to repair these was in excess of $1500. *nm

2000 buick lesabre while driving the engine will abruptly shut down.*mr the vehicle was taken tot he dealer but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the vehicle was taken to another repair facility who determine that the problem was the ignition module. once the module was replaced the stall condition recurred. *nm

Dt: all four power windows will not work. from march through september of 2005 i they each quit working. the problems did not occur all at the same time. the consumer stated that the rear windows were rarely used; probably not more than six times. when the windows were inspected the mechanic told the consumer that the problem was with the regulators in the window motors. after taking the doors apart he found that the cables in each of the regulators snapped. also, told the consumer that he had never seen a power window system set up like these were. they were unable to replace just the cables, but, had to replace the entire regulator in each window. the parts for the rear windows were only available through gm directly. the consumer felt that the cables in the regulators were defective. *ak

Dt: the contact stated that the back driver's side window was faulty. she tried to roll the window up when she heard a clicking noise and the window would not go up or down. dealer said the regulator needed to be replaced. part was replaced at owners expense. manufacturer filed a complaint for the contact, and told her to call nhtsa. *ak

Car died, got a jump from aaa, after numerous tries car started, car was not acting right, driving out of the parking lot car died, called to have aaa come back, while waiting fumes were coming out of the back seat where the battery is located, mechanic arrived and removed the rear seat to find the battery was leaking from the positive terminal the main positive lead had corroded off the battery, and fumes were coming out, he immediately disconnected the battery there was substantial acid inside the car the body structure was damaged from the acid. this was an ac delco battery. i called gm and ac delco this was an original battery. they didn't want to correct the problem. so i went to a buick dealer and bought a new battery and put it in . i own two buicks 97 and 2000 this is the third time ac delco battery has failed my 97 has substantial damage in the engine compartment from acid that leaked. and i had to replace the main positive terminal end twice because it rotted off. ac delco needs to address this problem with their batteries they told me that its due to heat and vibration that their batteries fail . that to me is admission and that they know they have a problem and they are not fixing the problem.*jb

Consumer is concerned with the intake manifold gasket has been replaced on two occasions. *ts when doing intake manifold gasket repair for the second time the technician noticed that the right front (and maybe the left) outer tie rod end was loose and needed to be replaced. the tie rod was first replaced when the vehicle only had 18959 miles on it. *nm

Basically the same issue as the 71 other complaints. a few weeks ago the rear passenger window make a grinding noise, then fell halfway down. now it doesn't work at all. then last night the front passenger window did the same. obviously a defect in the automatic window assembly. almost no point in paying to get it fixed as it seems anyone that has had it fixed just have the same problems again. *jb

Dt: when starting the vehicle the consumer noticed a light illuminated on the dash panel that read check tire pressure. the consumer drove to a gas station inspected the tires and discovered that the right front tire was low. the consumer added air to the tire but suspected there was a slow leak because the tire would not hold sufficient air pressure of 30/30 psi. the consumer drove to the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. these tires were the original tires that were purchased on the vehicle. the dealer noted that the steel was coming through the tread, but would not replace the tires. dealer suggested that the consumer go to a general tire dealer because the tires were manufactured by general. the consumer went to redwood general tire dealer and they agreed the tread was coming through on the right front tire and suggested a replacement. the tire was replaced at the consumer's expense. the tire service shop said they would send the tire to the manufacturer for investigation. the consumer became concerned because he never received any further information about the tire so she decided to call the manufacturer. the manufacturer claimed that they never received the tire and that they would contact the tire service dealer. some time later the consumer called general and they finally did agree to some reimbursement for the tire.*ak *mr the dealer informed the consumer the tread was separating. *jb

Both front and rear driver's side power window motors have failed 3 days apart from one another, and needed replacement. repairs to both windows have totaled $1000 combined. old parts are available. repairs were performed at a cadillac dealership. based on other performance reviews, i have seen a trend that this is occurring commonly on this vehicle, and repeated failure of this part is occurring with many owners. *jb

Dt: the vehicle will slow down and stop. the power steering tightens up and it just stopped. . the panel will light up and the vehicle will die . this vehicle has been to the dealers three times. the first time dealer said nothing was wrong. contacted gm then, and gm told dealer what to do. they did diagnostic testing and no codes were found. this started happening on august 15, 2003. *ak

Dt: 2000 buick le saber. the car stalled at 10751 miles in february 2003 at any given time no matter what the driving conditions were. this happen again on august 15, 2003 and on september 24, 2004. the consumer called gm after the third time, they said there was a recall on this problem, they advised me to take vehicle to dealer to have this fixed. the recall was on the fuel pressure regulator. on september 29, 2004 the dealership said that they performed recall repairs. the car stalled again around august 5, 2005. took to the dealer, and they kept it for 4 days, they duplicated the problem, and they fixed it again. this was on august 12, 2005. drove the car about 3 blocks from house and the car stalled again. had to sit for a while before the car would start. the car did start and while driving back home the car stalled again. finally got the car home and mow it is in the driveway, talked to the manufacturer, and they said they would call consumer this evening about the problem.*ak

Dt: the contact owns a 2000 buick lesabre. the contact had to replace three of the four power windows, and now the fourth window needed to be replaced . the windows had to be replaced within the last four years. the vehicle has been taking to the dealership while it was under warranty, but they could never duplicate the problem with the power windows and the regulator. therefore, they would not correct the problem. this was on the driver's side window. the three window regulators had to be replaced out of pocket by the consumer the dealership would not help with the cost of repairs. this was an intermittent problem. when the problems first started the window would go up slowly and then it would go out. *ak

Dt: the horn button in the center of steering wheel required excessive effort to activate the horn. the consumer had to bear down with both hands in order to get the horn to work. noticed this on april 15, 2005. *ak

I own a 2000 buick lesabre. i continue to have problems with the windows. i am now in the process of replacing another window motor, this is the second one. i am unable to drive my car until repairs are made. don't you think a recall should be made for these repairs as i have a relative that has the same vehicle and she has had the same problem. from reading other complaints, it appears that this is a problem with a lot of consumers. what can we do? i just replaced one, 400.00 charge now another one. as consumers we are requesting a recall for defective windows for all buicks. i did not keep the last old part, but will keep the next one, where do i send it? *jb

Dt: last year while driving there was a problem with the window. there was a popping sound first ,and then the window fell down. the consumer called the dealership, who indicated that they could replace the whole window mechanism. there was a web made of plastic that holds the end of the cable and keeps window up. this piece of plastic failed. the consumer contacted the manufacturer, who advised the consumer to file a complaint. the consumer was concerned about children who could be in the back of the car and get cold when the window was down. the problem happened to the consumer again this weekend while driving at a shopping center, and hit a bump. then heard a popping and then the window came down again. the consumer was going to repair it himself.*ak

Dt: the battery connection broke out of the battery where the battery connections were mounted . this battery was located rear right side of the back seat passenger compartment. this was discovered after attempting to restart the vehicle, it would not restart. consumer pulled rear seat out, and could visibly see the battery connections which were loose from the battery and had evidently broken loose form the battery itself. consumer believed this happened over a period of time because battery fluid leaked on the floor and pierced through the metal floorboard of the vehicle. there was a visible hole about one and a half inches in diameter. took car to a buick dealer to buy another battery , and dealer noted this was a problem with particular battery which was thought to be manufactured in asia, and this was a common failure. dealer would not offer any cost assistance or free remedy for this problem. consumer bought another battery and paid out of pocket for it. has not contacted manufacturer. *ak

The rear driver side power window failed. there was a loud pop and the window slid half way down and would not go back up. i talked to my mechanic, and he said that it was a cable that broke. he knew instantly because he had replaced many of them in similar buick lesabres. we know of two friends personally who have had the same problem. for one friend, it happened on more than one window in her car. to get it fixed at the dealership cost nearly $500. it appears to us that this is a faulty part and that the auto maker should recall and repair it at their cost.

My 2000 buick lasabre has had three widow regulators fail. one under warranty, one i talked them into paying for the part, and now the third that they refuse obsorb any of the $400 cost. my wife has been stranded without an automobile for four days waiting on the part. i finally had to get an autobody shop to repair it (tomorrow 6/29/2005). someone is now making an after market part that is half the cost, because they know the extent of the problem. i will never purchase another gm product.

1. transverse brake line to left rear brake (abs) rusted through; all brake fluid lost. no other visible rust under car. luckily, was parked when discovered. 2. no brakes. 3. at dealer replacing line.

Shortly after taking delivery of vehicle which had 60 miles on it,i noticed when accelerating from a stop or accelerating when turning the car lost power.i would press the gas and it wouldn't go.took to paul batt buick & skill buick many,many times,never found problem.at 30k miles,buick said i should change fluid & check the pan fluid,which showed nothing.problem still occurs.this could be a hazard if vehicle behind me thinks i'm moving and car slows to a near stop w/o brake lights going on. i have 55k miles on it now & problem still occurs.neither buick or the dealer has attempted to resolve this problem.skill buick and paul batt buick were less than helpful.

The driver's side window intermittantly stopped working and the motor was replaced while the vehicle was still under warranty. now the rear right side passenger window stopped working one day after it had been rolled down. it was looked at by the buick dealer, and i was told it would cost well over $500.00 to fix the window regulator and motor. i asked them at the time if there was a recall on the window motors, since i had already had to have one motor replaced, i was told no. i have since had to pull the window up manually, and tape it so it does not fall down. (not a pretty site). i feel this is a problem and am afraid it will happen to another window and will be forced also to fix that one at a hefty price. i believe there should be a recall on the window motor mechanisms.

Dt: bought used a used car, had it a year. there was a recall on the fuel line. and the engine blew up and caught the on fire. gm offered to buy the car back because it was totaled and told her that her gap insurance would pay her the rest of the payoff. gap insurance said if gm would pay a set amount they would take care of the rest. then gm resended their offer. gm told her that the offer was closed.*ak

The cruise control in the consumer's 2000 buick lesabre failed at 50000 miles. *nm there was a stability system problem due to a corroded sensor which was caused by the inability of the insulating material protecting the sensor. a new left front bearing hub was replaced due to corrosion in the plug. the steering wheel sensor on the lower steering column had to be replaced. the vehicle would abruptly come to a stop three times in 75 feet just as if the brakes were applied but the driver had no control of the situation. the consumer requested reimbursement for the parts that had been updated and the labor. *sc

My driver's side rear window just decided to quit working one day while my window was down. i was finally able to get my window back in the closed position only to be driving down the road one day and my window fell down by itself and won't stay up. now i am having to replace my electirc motor in this window. i have already had to replace the electric motor and regulator in my front driver's side window. it seems to me, judging by all the complaints, that there should be a recall on this year model electric window motors. when is buick going to step up and fix this problem?*ak

Since purchased new, a 2000 buick lesabre has had all four power window regulator assemblies fail without warning, i.e., the windows stopped working,(not all at one time, but over the intervening years) creating a safety problem in the event of a need to evacuate the car, to conduct business at a toll lane, for example, or to respond to a police traffic stop. and the driver's window has failed a second time, after having been repaired by buick, for a total of five failures of the same electrical/mechanical system. buick replaced the first assembly under warranty. the next three repairs cost approximately $435 each at buick. the fifth repair was done at an independent repair facility at a cost of $333. the independent shop and several other sources have anecdotally related many other incidents of an obviously defective electrical/mechanical system. buick has acknowledged some liability and has agreed to reimburse about 50% of the repair costs. however, i believe that this problem is a safety issue and/or a significant product defect that should be subject to recall.*ak

The vehicle is experiencing problems with the power windows on the front driver's side and the front passenger's side intermittently shorting out. consumer is unable to wind the side windows up or down when needed. also consumer smelled electrical wiring burning when using the window switches. dealer was notified, and informed consumer that the vehicle was not covered under a recall. *ak

Transmission failure, causing hard shifts and shuddering when driving. gm has a tsb out for this sympton but denies any problem with the transmission. dealership tech confirmed with diagnostic test and refered to bullitin #00-07-30-002b pressure control solenoid valve assembly. gm refuses to pay for even a portion of the repairs inspite of their tsb indicating a problem with this perticular make and model. the vehicle was purchased used from my father inlaw with 81k miles on it. 12/26/04 and was very well maintained. iif they issue a tsb for this specific problem, they should take some responsibility iin corrective repairs as laid out in their own tsb. gm refuses to own up to this problem. *ak

When i use the dimmer switch on my headlights to switch from low beam to high beam all of my headlights go out and it is completely dark. when i switch back to low beam the lights come back on. this happens at various times and not everytime i try to use the high beams. sometimes they actually work. *jb

While driving dash lights illuminated intermittently. the air bag light illuminated more than any other light. also, the driver's side back of seat laid automatically on its own. this incident happened while the consumer was driving. upon having a full tank of gas, the meter would read empty. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the consumer was told that there was an electrical problem. *ak there was a noise in the dash, the fuel gauge would jump to empty, the speedometer would go to zero, the headlight would go dim when the weather was rainy, there was a rumble in the left front end, a shimmy when the brakes were applied and when raining, the dash light would go from bright to dim the air bag light was intermittent, the radio would cut out, the driver's seat was inoperative, the transmission would slip into overdrive on slight acceleration, the automatic doors were inoperative, the cruise control was inoperative, there were intermittent loss of heat would start blowing cold air, the oil pressure light would come on while the fuel gauge mileage would not stay on, the electrical remote was inoperative, and there was a leak in the engine. *sc

Recall 04v090000, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced twice in four years. the dealer stated that the gas was bad and it was causing the regulator to be defective. *ak the consumer was told the recall did not apply to her vehicle. *jb

While making a right turn stability system light appeared on the dashboard an remained on. consumer drove the vehicle to dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the front passenger's side tie rod needed to be replaced. *ak

While the vehicle was parked at a slight incline consumer opened the trunk lid and it fell down. this caused consumer to sustain minor injuries. vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic claimed that it was designed that way. *ak

I have had to replace two window regulators within one year. both incidents happened while driving in the rain, the window dropped down and i could not get the window back up. i see there have been many complaints filed regarding this.*ak

Dealership informed the consumer that the hole in the rear floor board was due to battery acid leaking into the vehicle. the problem was not resolved. *ak *jb

Vehicle was having a problem with the catalytic converter. the mfr. was unable to repair the catalytic converter because there were no parts to repair it with. dealership does not know when the parts will be available for repair. *jb the vehicle was taken to the dealer in april but as of may 17 no new catalytic converter was available from gm to replace the defective one. *nm

While driving 70 mph, the consumer felt a severe vibration on the drivers side of the vehicle. soon after there was a loud explosion on the same side. after pulling over to the shoulder, the consumer discovered that tread separated from the tire. the tread damaged the left front fender and the headlights. *ak the remaining three tires showed signs of tread separation. *sc *jb

Service engine light came on. dealer said code was an 0741 and 0743 showing electrical or possible tourque converter. dealer said they were unable to duplicate. however it shuddered upon hard acceleration during merges onto freeway or turnpike ramps. the original estimate was about 3000.00. the garage finally had to take apart the transaxle to for a diagnostic.

The transmission failed at 50k miles. *ph there were two other same make/model vehicles with the same problem. the consumer suggested that gm compensate consumer's for this problem. there were ticking noises upon acceleration and there was a clunk sound when the vehicle was placed in reverse. *sc *jb

The front right bulb socket was so corroded it caused the bulb to stop working. *ph the right rear tail light stopped working. the consumer smelled anti-freeze after the recall for the intake manifold was completed. *sc *jb

Weather was below zero (-20 to -30) for several days before and including january 30, 2004. my 2000 buick lesabre custom refused to start two days previous, so on the evening of january 29, i poured a bottle of iso-heet into the gas tank and then plugged the headbolt heater in overnight. the next morning (jan. 30), i got into the lesabre to start it to go to work. when i turned the key, i heard a click and then boom! it sounded like something had exploded under the hood on the driver's side. smoke began rolling out from under the hood. i grabbed my belongings and got out of the car quickly. i was shocked, but not hurt. i heard a noise under the hood like the draft from a fire. i called 911 and stood back about 40 feet from the vehicle. by the time the fire department arrived, there were flames leaping out 5 feet high from the space between the hood and the fender on the driver's side. the fire marshall inspected the damage afterwards. he said that it appeared that a fuel line had ruptured. that is all he said. that does not explain to me what exploded. the battery on a 2000 lesabre is under the back seat, and it was intact after the fire. the fire fighters had removed the back seat and cut the battery cables, so i saw that it was okay. the whole engine was burned up. the car was a total loss. i lost two days of work making arrangements to buy another car. the insurance company only paid me $10,998.00 for the loss. i had to pay $2839.56 out of my own pocket to pay off the car loan. (worst of all, i had to go to my brother, a car salesman, and buy a damn ford! i want my beautiful lesabre back!) p.s.: although the engine compartment was totally burned up, the firewall performed beautifully. after the fire, i was able to enter the car and remove papers from the glove box that were untouched by the fire or the heat. except for the soot from the fire fighters' boots and a smoky smell, the passenger compartment was otherwise unharmed.*ak

I have a 2000 buick llesabre and i have had to replace the regulator in the rf door and am in the process of have one replaced in the lf door. neither was covered; the warranty had expired. this indicates poor quality control and or design.

Despite extreme low mileage and use, 3 out of 4 power windows have stopped working and have needed costly repairs. i see other complaints about windows on this site and agree that depending on the circumstances, this could cause a dangerous situation. it's just plain poor quality too. *jb

When starting the vehicle consumer heard a loud backfire coming from the front of the vehicle. then, consumer noticed white smoke. driver was able to get out of the vehicle, and called the local fire department. the fire department was able to put out the flames. *ak

Power window assemblies have to be replaced because the cables become entangled and cause the power motor to fail. this has happened to the drivers front and back doors; and to the passenger's side front door. the window drops down and allows the outdoor elements (rain and snow) to ruin the interior of the vehicle. to my knowledge, the manufacturer has not come up with a solution for the problem.

Coolant leakage from coolant resevoir into air intake manifold. it is obvious that engine coolant drawn into cylynder head can have numerous results damaging to the operation and longevity of the engine. further the loss of coolant form the resevoir can result in inadequate engine cooling and high and destructive engine temperatures. while there was no observed evidence of coolant loss before gmc recall to "tighten throttle body bolts", the loss of coolant accelerated after the unsuccessful effort to eliminate coolant loss. that this problem has been present since early in 2000 model of the buick lesabers is evidenced by complaints and service reports. the recall program of summer 2003 was an inadequate solution to the problem. in addition to this history, the existance of long standing problem is confirmed by gmc's recall in the summer of 2003. my complaint is heightened by the fact that both the dearler and gm refused to investigate the coolant loss observed after the recall as a part of the recall and used the expiry of my original warranty after the recall announcement and also after the completion of recall servicing without fully charging me for the investigation and required remedial work to resolve the coolant leakage malfunction. during my research into this situation i encountered a "mr good wrench" who worked in service department of a large buick dealer. while discussing the throttle body leakage, he commented the "buick has an even bigger problem with the "plastic section of the intake manifold which is encountering frequent cracking of this section of the manifold resulting in loss of coolant and major engine operation difficulties. sounds to me this problem which is even more damaging and expensive to consumer than the throttle body leakage merits an investigation.*ak

I am complaining about my 2000 buick lesabre.in april 20, 2003 i rolled down my driver's side window and it would not go back up. i took it to a buick dealer. they wanted nearly $400 to repair the window. i called the buick customer service department who called the buick dealer and talked to the manager. it was agreed to split the price 50-50. on may 24th the rear window on the passenger side failed. i tested the other back window and it failed. again i called the customer service department. they refused to do anything this time. a few days later i called again and spoke with a different representative. he refused to do anything and backed up the first person's decision without any consideration to my problem. he also refused to give me the zone office phone number for buick. when asked to speak to someone higher up i was told no. i said i was going to write a letter and was told it wouldn't matter what i did it was settled. i did send a letter to buick and he was right, it didn't matter. they still refused to do anything about the problem. the case number is 1-93076844. this is the worst experience i have ever had with customer service. both of these representatives had no interest in dealing with me. this is a prime example of customer 'no' service. *ak i did some checking into the power window problem on your web site and found that on september 1, 1999 a service bulletin #9908110008 was issued dealing with concerns about the door glass binding in the run channel. i also found other complaints listed about the same type of problem. they also complained about more than one window going bad within a short period of time. i would think that this problem should be taken up with the factory since i consider this to be defective window regulators on the buick lesabre 2000 models.

I am writing you because i do not know where to turn to. i purchased a 2000 buick lasabre from brown pontiac in amarillo texas at the end of 2000. all 4 windows have stopped working, because of one little plastic part that has broken on the window regulator, rendering them useless, and poses a problem in case of carbon monoxide poisoning, or other emergency situation where the windows needed to be operable. it is clearly a defect in material used, which is a little plastic ball, which holds the electric wire in place through a tension system. the only way to fix the problem as it is, is to purchase and replace the entire window regulator and motor, which is about $300 each, and still the same potential problem exists. according to used parts places around the country, that have told me this is a frequent problem with this vehicle. when my two rear windows stopped, i took it back to the dealer, and because i had not purchased an extended warrant on the vehicle, they essentially laughed at me. i just had my mechanic in pampa texas fix them so they would at least stay up, and so my children would not get hurt on them, or anyone else for that matter. now my front two windows have done the exact same thing, and no longer work, and the only way to fix them is to replace the window regulators and motors in all four windows which is about $1200. this to me is absurd when the problem is one little plastic ball which holds the tension spring in place so the electric windows can go up and down. i am hopeful you can help me to get buick and gm to fix this problem, before some little child is injured or falls out a window because it no longer works, or someone dies of carbon monoxide poisoning because the windows no longer go up and down. i appreciate any help you may be able to give me in getting this unfortunate dangerous situation resolved, and my windows repaired. i am very appreciative of your time and concern for dealing with this matter. *nlm

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning, the left wheel on the driver's side fell off. *ak the tie rods had completely worn out. the front end sounded like it was going to fall. (had already been repaired) gm refused to do anything. *scc *jb

Loud knock noise when turning steering wheel in sharp turn in either direction. dealer reposition cradle bolts with no help. found later after factory warranty was out the outer tie rod ends needed to be replaced and were of a different design. this part should not wear this quickly and could cause failure of the steering system. *jb

Power windows will not operate. this is the forth power window regulator replacement in three separate windows that i have had to have fixed. two of these regulators broke in one weekend. i believe general motors is aware of a problem with the number of complaints and with the service bulletin 9908110008 issued on sep. 1,1999 stating that the upper reg. attaching bolt may be too far foward and needs bolt hole elongated so window glass does not bind when rolling up window. this failure record is costing me and other consumers costly. *jb

I need to report my 2000 buick lesabre, apparently has and oil leak. while driving, you can smell oil leaking on the exhaust pipes/manifold system. i read where some engines with the 3.8l engines: chevy's, pontiac's, buick regal's are being recalled for oil leaking from valve cover gaskets (when hard braking is applied) on to the exhaust system parts and could cause a fire, in the engine compartment.. i am experiencing the same problem on my 2000 buick lesabre. with the 3.8l engine. i would like for this to be investigated on these model buick's 2000 - 2005, for oil leaking onto exhaust system. they should be included as well.

Since i bought the buick lesabre in 2002 all 4 windows have had defective motors in them. i feel this is a manufactures defect and they should reimburse me for all the time and money it has cost me to have these windows fixed. they have all failed with in a years time during the summer months. i have had to take the vehicle in on 4 separate occasions because they would not fix the motor unless they actually saw it when the motor was stuck and not working. i live over 50 miles away from the dealer and i had to rush over there so they could see the windows when they wouldn't operate. i had 3 of the 4 window motors replaced but they refused to fix the last window because it wasn't sticking at the time i brought it in. now the 4th window is broken and it will not go up or down yet my warranty has run out. i paid 100.00 every time they took my vehicle in for repair. i had to get a rental vehicle each time i took it in because it took them over 24 hours to replace the motor in the window. i feel this is a defect from the manufacture and i have heard that my buick is not the only one with those same problems. i feel i should be reimbursed for the money i have had to spend to fix the windows and they should fix my 4th window because the warranty ran out. i did complain and told the dealer ship to note that i said all 4 windows were defective but i haven't been reimbursed yet, and they refuse to fix my 4th window under the warranty because it was not showing signs of the defect at the time.*ak

I had at least 6 different times that i would go to start the engine and it would only hum, not start. i took it to the dealer while under warranty and they said they could not duplicate the problem. i asked if they checked the battery cables and they said yes. i asked this as i thought that was the problem, a loose battery connection. i knew they did not check, as the battery is under the rear seat and i placed a kleenex box in a marked position and it was exactly the same when they returned the car. it finally just wouldn't start at all, so i had it towed to a repair station (not the dealer) to be fixed. they said the battery cable was loose and arking and they were surprised that i didn't have a fire under the back seat. the reason for my complaint, i don't want anyone injured or killed from a fire under the rear seat in any 2000 buick lesabre. hope you will make gm check all battery connections on any model with the battery under the back seat. thank you.*ak

Drivers side rear signal light blown, socket burnt/discolored and plastic piece that socket twist into is melted by the heat of the socket. passenger side signal light not blown but socket shows signs of overheating and discoloration possibly burnt.

Have had to have all four new tires replaced at various mileage due to separation of radial cords. am experiencing the same problem with the replacement tires which seem to perform well for approx. 500 to 1000 miles before radials start to separate again. would like to know if this problem with this tire is a common occurance and if the manufacturer will own up to the fact that it is not a good or safe product.*ak (tiresize: p215/70r15)

Safety belt on driver side sometimes fails to latch because the latch mechanism fails to return to its proper location inside the latch housing. i have to press and hold the latch and then use a butter knife to pop the latch back out so that it will latch properly. the driver's side rear power window just started sliding down the track one day and now will not go up or down using the switch. i've had to slide it up into place and the tape it shut with package sealing tape. the front driver side power window sometimes fails to go up or down when i press the window down button. then later it will respond appropriately. johnson motors replaced the passenger side front window motor last year when i took the car in to have it serviced and have some scratches buffed out that had been there when i originally purchased the vehicle. the windows are a very real problem but the seat belt latch failure is a real life-threatening situation.*ak

Power steering problem - when you turn the steering wheel, there is an unusual noise and you can feel a viberation while parked and while moving. i took this car to the dealer i purched the car from on sept. 14, 2001. mr. jay wakefield ,general manager and mr. tom berry, service manager acknowledged my problem. however, both said the manufacturer was aware of the problem because it has happened to other cars. so far they have not found the solution. they also said i would have to live with the problem until the mfg. notifies them what to do. i do not feel safe driving the car in this condition. the tires have been an on going problem since i purchased this car. wakefield buick did put two new tires on several weeks after i purchased. the tires causes the car to viberate when you get up to 60 mph and up. i mentioned this problem to jay wakefield but he was not symphetic with my tire problem. i will have to put new tires on at my expense. i know several people that has bought buick lesabres and they had the same problem i am having. after purchasing a diffrent brand of tire the problem went away. *ak (tiresize: p215/70r15)

The horn of the buick lesabre i drive kept going off in the middle of the night and i took it for repair. they told me that a computer module was bad and if it was not repaired that the airbag could go off while i was driving and possibly cause an accident. they told me the price would be over $900 for the repair and i protested that if it was a safety and computerized module defect it should be repaired free of charge. marcie ochoa with buick customer assistance, 1-800-521-7300 file # c02428638, was contacted by gary ruffner uwua sec-treasurer, and said she talked with service manager bob and was not due to a defect on the vehicle. it is something that just went out. she also said because this vehicle was less than a year old it had 42,678 miles on it and would not be covered by warranty and they would not provide any assistance. i feel that this is a safety issue and is a defect that any consumer should not have to pay for and there should be a recall if what they said is true that "the module defect can cause the air bag to deploy while someone is driving and cause an accident. .

Engine stopped while driving down a hill, about 55 mph, and entering a left curve. vehicle, w/o brakes or steering, pulled to the right, going onto the berm and then doing a 360 degree turn in the middle or roadway, hitting guardrail and then sliding off roarway, over a slope, into a field. *ak

Vehicle would stall at low speed, even after dealer claimed they fixed some wirings in the back of engine on 8/28/2000. the engine stall has been an intermittent problem for this vehicle since brand new, first it was a defective alternator then the wirings? this is very dangerous on highway because you do not know when the engine is going to stall. this vehicle also has a exhaust fumes getting into ac intake problem, i suspect a defective hood seal.

Vehicle stalled in traffic at 50 mph in a left banked turn entrance to hwy 121/is35n.i pulled over and stopped on shoulder. the car started after about a minute or so. contacted dealer and was told by alan in service department that incident was a "fluke".*ak

Cruise control cable unlatches from cruise control module jamming accelerator cable to full throttle. we picked up new car, and were driving at 35 mph when the car lurched ahead at full throttle. stepping on brakes did not stop vehicle. ignition had to be shut off. tow called. taken to dealership where problem was identified to service mgr. they said they would correct problem by taking parts from another new car. they jury-rigged defect with plastic wireties. the problem occured again the next day but ties held cable from jamming. we are worried that these plastic ties do not solve, but mask problem and will not last. we would like the prevelence of this problem checked. we would also like to be contacted by gm/buick re problem and the dealer's "solution". *ak

Wind and road noise so loud it is hard to hear passengers or radio. dealer has tried to fix 6 times. says buick is aware of the problem. *ak

At the first filling of gas tank, fuel came out of bad gasket and spilled fuel causing wicked bad fuel smell through out interior of car. heater has never operated properly. the only way that you can be comfortable in cold weather is to operate manually. the alternator has always had a very noticeable and annoying hum at slow speeds. the alternator has been replaced twice, with no improvements in the noises. power assist failed and as a result i lost all braking and a strong odor developed inside the car. this is ok now and along with the gas tank is the only things that have been repaired.

This car almost continuously wanders from one side of a lane to the other. it is extremely dangerous to drive especially in tight traffic conditions. you spend all of your time steering back and forth to try and keep it going straight. on breezy days forget it, you can feel the car swaying back and forth under you making it even more difficult to control. i filled out a questionnaire from gm when i first got the car and told them "between the sloppy suspension and the over sensitive steering, this is the worst car i have ever driven" and i meant it.*ak

The cup holders are too small to hold a cup or soda can. they are of two different sizes. when a stop is made they have a tendency to spill and when a person reaches to grab them an accident can occur.the factory says that is design, and nothing can be done about it.i asked for a recall or a replacement and was turned down. mine spilled and poured hot coffee all over the floor. i would appreciate a reply as to what can be done about this situation. *ak

If a person were standed in the car during a wyo blizzard the heater would not be able to keep you from freezing. the car has been returned to the dealers six or more times and the problem can't be remedied.

Cup holders will hold nothing. an attempt to put a car designed cup holder of hot coffee could result in severe injuries. there is nothing that will fit in the drink holder---not a can, not a cup, not a bottle!!

When fuel tank is filled to max, vehicle will quit while driving and has to be towed to dealer. dealer says this is normal. do not fill gas tank to full. we feel this policy would be unsafe for anyone who did not receive these instructions, filled to full, and pulled onto a main thoroughway.

Owner noted unusual sound when applying brake pedal in a hard, but not panic, stop. investigation revealed that the power brake booster was extending out 1 inch from firewall when hard brake pedal pressure was applied. brakes functioned normally. further investigation revealed that the four studs which secure the brake booster to the firewall were not tightened properly. the four nuts which secure the four booster studs to the firewall were only engaged the length of the nut, leaving about 1 inch of the stud thread exposed. owner fastened three of the four nuts, since the fourth stud was obscured by the steering column. the fourth nut will be referred to the dealer for repair during the next scheduled maintenance. brakes now function ok without noise or booster movement, but this failure to properly assemble the booster to the firewall could have caused loss of brakes if the four nuts had totally disengaged from the booster studs.

After driving a short distance, the car kills. the power steering, and power brakes go out making driving very difficult. the car will not start again for approximatly 20 minutes. the vehicle has been towed to two seperate dealership on three occasions. of the 1400 mile currently on the vehicle, approximatly 600 were put on by the dealership attempting to duplicate the error.

Consumer is having problems with the electric windows. the rear driver side window was down a crack so consumer attempted to raise it. it wouldn't so consumer started to lower it and it dropped half way and would not go up or down. teh entire mechanism had to be replaced. a week after the first repair, consumer was in motion when the rear passenger side window dropped halfway with no action on the driver or passengers part. several weeks after having the rear passenger window repaired, consumer attempted to lower the front drivers window. the window would not move at all. *jg

Consumer stated while driving with the windshield wipers in use, they all of a sudden sped up suddenly to maximum speed, however they did not clear enough water away, after running at high speed for about 10 seconds, the drivers side wiper arm moved up and became tangled with the other arm near the middle, in which both arms were then inoperative, the drivers side arm was loose and it could move easily up and down the windshield, after the repair was made consumer found the nut which holds the drivers side wiper arm to the drive shaft had nothing to lock it in place, consumer believes that the nut could become loose again, which would cause the wiper arm to be inoperative.*jb

Vehicle brought to dealer for excessive fast idle at start up with cold or warm engine. vehicle 35 mph in one-half mile without using acclerator. tachometer indicates 1800 to 2200 rpm. must apply brakes repeatedly to reduce speed to safe speed. rpm returns to normal within seven-tenths of a mile. *tt

Consumer stated another motorist crossed his path from a parking lot exit and severly damaged the vehicle, consumer states the airbags failed to deploy and also the seat belts did not restrain him properly, consumer suffered a severe blow to the chest and a fractured sternum.*yd

Since ownership of vehicle consumer noticed that the front tires were not balanced, vehicle would vibrate at 60 mph, consumer was advised by dealership that they would not try to balance tires until the vehicle had at least 1000 miles on it, once vehicle obtained the miles consumer took vehicle back to dealership and was then advised that the two front tires could not be balanced because they were defective, the rear tires were balanced but would not be satisfactory to transfer to the front as they would probably shake, consumer has replaced all four (general tires) and is now requesting reimbursement. *jb

I was having problems with the interior lights going dim and then brigthen back up. the controls would also get hot. i call mr. carl chipman at the go automotive and informed him that i felt that there was a shortage of some kind. they had a sunroof put in and i wasn't sure it the problem had been cause by this top. mr. chipman did ride the car down the road and it did not do it with him. he stated that the controls being hot was just because it was that time of year and the weather. i told him that they would be hot to the touch. i was also have problems with the seat belt not hooking and they ordered a piece and i took the car in on 6/23/99. mr. chipman told me to just keep an eye on things. things did not get worse until the whole control panel stopped working on 7/1/01. my car was never put on the machine and buick is telling me that since i did not have my car service with a dealer that they won't cover any of thr bill. they are talking about $700.00 to replace the control panel because it has shorted out.
