Was on a main highway going 55 and the transmission made a bang, and the transmission went out. Pulled over out of the way and put 4 ways on and put van in park. Walked up highway two miles for help. Problem was when trans went out it took the park gear, yes no park and the van rolled down the high way and hit a car. Why? Chrysler spot welds planetary gear pins in front and rear sets. Pins came out and broke gears in back part of transmission. Went to junk yard and disassemble many Chrysler transmissions all welds are broke, nothing to hold Pins in bad workmanship. Check it out. All years.

The paint started peeling off the hood, roofline, rear hatch and fenders. I tried to have it repaired and was told it was due to faulty factory primer. The dealerships claim there is no warranty to repair this. Now the caravan is rusting in all those places that are “paintless”. It looks trashy, like the paint is blowing off; which it literally is.

The Paint on my van is literally peeling and flaking off the outside for no aparent reason not where there are dings or anything. its horrible looking and within a year it will be ten times as bad. i cannot beleive by seeing where it is peeling how it was painted aparently it was painted in an incredibbly cheap way. someone Please contact me and help me with this problem i am disabled from being hit and not in this vehicle but another one by a drunk driver and i have spine problems so i dont even get out alot. i would apreciate your help please.Thankyou,Amy Whitt

The dealer tried to charge me $1100 for a control module (computer) for the antilock brakes. I shopped on line at a discount parts store and got it for $192 and got a $100 recore when I sent the old part back. Quite the difference in $.

Paint seems to lifting off the primer. The primer is holding to the body fine. Big patches are on both front fenders and now its starting to flake off other parts of the body (doors, rear quarter).

Paint peeling really bad, front wheels,shack like crazy, fix twice. sterring wheel locks up from time to time, had brakes fixed several times, heat works when it wonts to, i dont remeber the dates these things started going bad, but I am still spending money on this van

Paint peeling on hood and roof. Spots are getting larger and paint is peeling off. We require a new paint job and would require warranty as we heard of similar problems with this year of vehicle. We like the vehicle and want to keep it for a long time yet as we are the original owners of this vehicle

Paint is peeling on hood and roof of the car. It started out as a small speck of peeling paint, then as of recently it grew and has spread to entire roof and hood. Door ajar light goes on and rings constantly. Power door locks lock whenever it wants and has a mind of it\\\’s own.

I own a 1992 caravan 3 litre 3 speed. These are the problems we’ve had with it:Obc computer failed 3 times due to static electricitiy, causing loss of instrumentation. Belt tensioner failure at 120 Kengine mount failure and 115 Kmap sensor failure 3 times, causing let downs/towing costs.water pumpbrake equalization valveball jointsnumerous brake rotorsshocksour van only has 150Kour import has 200 K and still has its original exhaust and treats us 10 times better.

Br999 Brake Repair including accumulator pkg. O-rings, Gasket and labor.This should have been included under a recall for the 1991-1993 Dodge Caravans for the ABS system. I should not have to pay any amount of money towards this repair

1992 Dodge Caravan Base Model in color Blue. Paint began peeling pre- year 2000 and has become worse as car keeps on otherwise operating satisfactorily. No attempt to contact Chrysler to complain as I thought it was somehow my own fault. However, as time passed I began to observe many Caravans on the road in same color Blue also with severely peeling paint jobs.My car still runs well. I’d really like to get the car repainted.

11/16/04 took vehicle to service department of Maroone Dodge; ABS warning light on, fluid being ejected from brake fluid reservoir. Was advised that a recall had been issued on problem. Left vehicle for recall service.11/18/04 was advised by phone that parts not covered by the recall were needed; estimated cost $500. I authorized the work over the phone.At this point I did some research and found that the braking system (Bendix ABS-10) has an extensive history of defects and has been the subject of class action lawsuits. I was advised by techs familiar with the system that early service manuals called for replacement of the accumulator which is rarely at fault, and later service manuals were updated with different diagnostic procedures and service.11/19/04, early in the morning, was advised by phone that still more parts were required, new estimate $1,000. I asked to speak with the service manager.Feeling that a master cylinder could be replaced for less than that, I called several south Florida auto parts retailers. I was informed by all that the Bendix ABS-10 system was available through dealers only. I was told by two that because of the problems with the system, Bendix made replacements available to dealers at very favorable prices. 11/19/04, afternoon, service manager called. He described what I believe to be obsolete and ineffective testing and repair procedure. I told the service manager that I would come and pick up the vehicle. He replied that it would have to be towed away as the tech had already disassembled the ABS and had broken hydraulic lines in the process. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, I authorized the work. I also told him to save all parts for me.I then made an internet request to Daimler/Chrysler (reference # 12874271) to speak with a regional service supervisor. My request was denied.11/30/04 I was told the vehicle was ready and went to the dealer. I was told I had to pay the bill of $1,108.67 before inspecting the vehicle, which I did. As I drove the vehicle away, the ABS warning light was still on. I drove the vehicle 122 miles running some errands and home. As I neared home the brakes failed completely and the brake fluid was ejected from the reservoir. The vehicle has not moved since.12/10/04 wrote a detailed complaint to Daimler/Chrysler with a copy to Maroone.1/7/05 received response from D/C, dated 1/3/05, “take it up with dealer”. Have never received any response from Maroone.1/31/05 contacted the credit card company that handled the transaction and placed the transaction in dispute.Further learned that the Bendix-10 system is not repairable, but that dealers continue to attempt to do so, at very high price, and in wanton disregard for safety.

The air bag light remains on in the vehicle. consumer is informed by the owner's manual that the air bag may not function in an accident. manufacturer was contacted by owner.*ak

While driving 65 mph, the rear hatch latch snapped. this caused the hatch to open and it was hard for the consumer to close the hatch. *ak the dealer had previously repaired the original hatchback latch per recall#97v079000. *sc *jb

Vehicle rear hatchback hydraulic lift door failed, came down without warning when closing. tt

While stopped at light, right rear hatch strut broke and shot through headliner; bolt burst, hole in headliner. tt

Recall # 97v079000 structure: door assembly: while van was being serviced for air conditioner and other problems, dealer forgot to perform recall work. this was the second time that owner brought this ot delaer's attention. the last time van was taken to dealership was on august 8, 1999. please provide any further information. *ak

The liftgate rods ripped out from vehicle. there is a recall on the liftgate. however ,the dealer informed owner that the rod was not under the recall. *ak

Had vehicle parked; went to rear & lifted liftgate; liftgate hatch collapsed due to bolts snapping; (under recall #97v079000). will be taking to dealer. *ak

Center seat/right side safety belt clip releases from the floor bracket frequently when the belt is in use. also hydraulic arm that holds the back door up , bolt that attaches the arm to the body of the van sheared in half,causing the back door to collapse. *ak *slc

Owner states that the hydraulic cylinders that support the hatchback fell down and hit owner in the head. dealers stated that a fixed bolt on the opening snapped. *ak

Tailgate support strut broke prior to recall notice.

Recall repair work denied due to lack of parts (seat belt buckle and liftgate support washers).

Upon attempting to close the hatchback after loading items into rear of van, the hatchback came crashing down due to strut on passenger's side snapping off. could have caused severe injuries to passengers had they been standing beneath the hatchback. *a

While driving in the rain rear windshield wipers failed. checked the fuses and they kept blowing out. removed the back door cover,and it was full of oil from the windshield wiper gasket that had fallen off. contacted dealer. dealer said vehicle was out of warranty. *ak

I have a 1992 dodge caravan subject to recall 685 nhtsa # 96v099000. the antilock bendix 10 assembly was replaced once . it now needs replacing again . abs light comes on and pump runs excessively. all inherent to the problems addressed above . the dealer is claiming to no nothing about the lifetime warrenty on this system indicated in the recall documentation on this site . i need some additional information to recontact chrysler with to force the to do the required repairs.

Repeated pulley and then belt failure causing steering and breaking trouble. repairs do not last. local dealers don't have laser alignment tool to check alignment. the internet is filled with belts flying off because of rain or slush in this vehicle, my pulleys just disintegrate with out the water. there seems to be a lot of aftermarket solutions but they seem hit or miss. it always happens when vehicle is being driven by grand mother with the grand children aboard far enough away for a $150.00 tow bill. its lucky so fare its been on city streets and at low enough speeds that a place to safely pull over can be found. the pulleys that seem to fail are the idler and the tensioner pulleys. this 3.3 engine is well maintained with 145,000 miles. though it seems that millage does not matter when it comes to pulley issues.

Hello, i have a abs recall done and it was not done correctly and caused my van to almost go of the road, the dealer will not do anything about it and said take it somewhere else, i need help with this. e-mail copies attached: [xxx], my name is [xxx], i live in cottage grove and had our dodge caravan's abs brakes repaired at your dealership and we have a major issue concerning the repetitive and incompetent repairs done at your facility. chrysler's safety defect report # (96v-099), nhtsa campaign id number: 96v099000 to be specific. a pdf file of this is attached for your viewing, please take the time to read this letter and then the campaign pdf completely, the odi resume dated 6-24-1996 page 39 sums it up quickly. this will help you and your service managers ability to understand the seriousness and your failure to perform the repairs correctly. an incident that could have taken the lives or cause injury to all my children, maybe another vehicle and passengers occurred. this happened on 4-1-2011, this is not a joke! my two daughter's, my son and another person riding in the van and the vehicle unexpectedly lost braking on a winding road and almost crashed. this is not the first time this brake failure was unexpected after your repairs! the repairs were not performed correctly for abs recall 0685, the proper testing fixture's were not installed during any of the operations you provided, diagnostic and repair recommendations were grossly incorrect, technicians and service writers story's on all r.o.'s are inadequate and incorrect. i can prove all of this in a court of law, and am ready to do so if needed. if the proper testing and inspection procedure were performed it would have reviled the defective actuator piston (brake master cylinder) which causes debris in the hydraulic system and compromises sensitive electrical components that control the bendix antilock 10 braking system, this part (brake master cylinder. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1992 dodge caravan. the contact is upset because he has had his brakes repaired twice at his own expense. the contact just found out there was an recall on his year/make and model. he informed the manufacturer of the failure with the brakes. the manufacturer stated that they would only cover the expenses if the contact vehicle had less than 100,000 miles. the contact was driving at 40mph and the brakes failed again. the contact put on his emergency brakes and pulled over. he later drove it to the repair shop. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the approximate failure mileage was 110000 and the current mileage was 159733.

Tl*the contact owns a 1992 dodge caravan. while driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions, the brakes failed when they were applied. the abs was not operating properly, which extended the stopping distance. the warning light indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the worn abs pump and piston. the vehicle was repaired. on two separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer for the same failure. there was a prior recall defect repair; however, the recall remedy has not corrected the safety defect. the contact was in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 197,250 and current mileage was 215,000. updated 11/19/08. *lj the consumer stated even though he was not charged, the problem still exists. there was no power to the brake. updated 11/19/08. *jb

1992 dodge caravan customer states that no letter regarding recall on brakes was sent. customer also paid to have car fixed and it took 3 dealerships to get the problem fixed right**cc *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the coupling bolt fractured on the steering wheel. a nhtsa recall, #92v015000 was performed on the vehicle concerning steering: wheel and handle bar however, the recall did not remedy the problem. the dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle leaked brake fluid, requiring extreme force on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. it was taken to a service dealer, who notified the contact that the vin was included in nhtsa recall #96v099000 which pertains to the antilock service brakes. the dealer replaced the abs pump and motor assembly, which temporarily corrected the problem. the vehicle's brakes failed again while driving 5 mph, and the brake pedal became very difficult to depress. the vehicle was returned to the service dealer, who was unable to perform the repairs due to a lack of parts. the dealer stated that the part would not be available for 2 months. the manufacturer was contacted, who was unable to provide assistance. updated 10/31/2006 - the master cylinder was replaced for o-ring leak. *nm

The right rear tire bridgestone dueler apt lt195-75-14 belt separated and ripped off the tire causing damage to the rear bumper and shattering the right rear tail light. *jb

Dt: the contact took the car to dealer for repairs for the abs several times and it never has been completely repaired. the abs brakes did not stop vehicle quickly enough. when the pump worked it pumped fluid out onto the ground. the dealer worked on vehicle 1-2 months ago. they replaced a pressure pump, but were waiting on the rest of the parts to fix the car. . the manufacturer told the contact it would be another 2-4 months before the parts came in. the consumer cited recall 96v099000 on the brakes a long time ago. he took the car to dealer for recall repairs, and they told him there was nothing wrong with the car.*ak

Dt: consumer bought used dodge caravan with 108, 000 miles. currently, vehicle has 112, 000 miles. vehicle was taken to dealer, and dealer found the hydraulic control unit/abs pump motor were faulty. both components were replaced under recall 685, on may 5, 2002, vehicle had 88, 199 miles on it. they replaced failed components with rebuilt equipment. howeve, vehicle was leaking brake fluid, and the pedal was stiff. while driving through charlotte north carolina brakes went out. on about july 7, 2005. friend at dealer told consumer that the control unit for abs was about $2000. consumer has not yet been able to fix vehicle due to excessive cost. consumer has been told that the hydraulic control unit wa sleaking and causing the problem. *ak

1992 dodge caravan with bendix 10 abs, recently purchased from private party. 11/16/04 took vehicle to service department of maroone dodge; abs warning light on, fluid being ejected from brake fluid reservoir. *jbwas advised that a recall had been issued on problem but not performed. left vehicle for recall service. 11/30/04 i was told the vehicle was ready and went to the dealer. i was told i had to pay the bill of $1,108.67 before inspecting the vehicle, which i did. i have the parts replaced. as i drove the vehicle away, the abs warning light was still on. i drove the vehicle 122 miles running some errands and home. as i neared home the brakes failed completely and the brake fluid was ejected from the reservoir. the vehicle has not moved since. 12/10/04 wrote a detailed complaint, addressed to daimler/chrysler with a copy to maroone. 1/7/05 received response from d/c, dated 1/3/05, stating problem must be resolved with dealer. have never received any response from dealer, maroone. 1/31/05 contacted the credit card company that handled the transaction and placed the transaction in dispute. 2/1/05 filed complaints with palm beach county, fl, and state of florida. subsequently learned that this defect apparently cannot be repaired; that nhtsa has investigated this problem. *jb

When brakes were applied under normal stopping conditions, abs system activated, resulting in extended stopping distance. manufacturer has been notified. owner has deactivated abs sensor. *ak consumer stated that on both front cv joints there is a tone wheel to provide wheel rotation into the abs, both wheels have cracked between teeth providing false wheel rotation into abs, consumer believes this confuses the abs resulting in loss of braking power, the vehicle suddenly releases the brakes causing a greatly increased stopping distance, it appears that the tone wheel material was too thin resulting in the cracks from the press-fit mounting to the cv joints, consumer stated it is not possible to replace the tone wheels without replacing the entire axle as the manufacturer will not provide the parts.*jb

Consumer's automobile had rearended a 2001 ford pickup truck, and driver's airbag did not deploy. the effect of the airbag not deploying could cause serious injuries to consumer. *ak

Fuel injector started leaking. the left fuel rail seal, which meets the crossover joint to connect the left and right rails, went bad and started leaking without warning. also, 3 local dealers had the part on back order, and a new modified piece will be issued in june by the manufacturing company. this can cause a fire . *ak *ml

While riving on the interstate 55mph the transmission slipped out of gear, and the engine was just racing. pulled off the road to reset the vehicle. the car was in overdrive, slipped out of overdrive to second gear. pulled over again to restart. was going up the hill, heard a clunking noise and could feel it. then it dropped into a lower gear. was told by a local transmission shop that a computer sensor which was attached to the transmission went out. as a result, transmission replaced. *ak
