Dear Chrysler Owner:

Thank you for contacting the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) about your
Chrysler LH (Intrepid, Concorde, Vision, New Yorker, LHS and 300M). Introduced
in 1993, the LH made advances in design and safety, but are still subject
to the quality and durability problems of past Chrysler products, including
transmission, brakes and A/C defects. Redesigned in 1998,
the LH has improved in quality since then to the point where the Car Book
rates the 2000 Intrepid and Concorde among the 20 most reliable cars.

The best thing about the LH is its superior crashworthiness. As part
of a cooperative project with the Car Book, CAS crash
tested the 1993 LH at 35-mph into a wall similar to government crash tests.
The LH passed with flying colors with the driver having only a 9% chance
of serious injury and the passenger 12%. Although the crash test scores
have slipped a little since then, they still remain in the good range.
Fuel injection system leaks have led to fires and two
recalls in 1993's with 3.3L and 1993-97's with 3.5L engines. The government
is investigating whether Chrysler covered up this defect. Over 70,000
owners paid for repairs before the recall and are entitled to refunds.
Contact CAS for more information.

When it comes to reliability, the 1993-97 LH's are not so good with a
poor complaint rating by the Car Book. Transmissions
that shudder, brakes that moan and howl, cars that don't start, panel
gauges that go out, A/C's that don't cool, engine valve trains that self-destruct
are some of the many defects in LH's. Chrysler notified dealers but not
owners about these problems in Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). CAS
has listed many of the major TSBs in the enclosed Fact Sheet which tells
you how to find any other TSBs on your vehicle. Chrysler extended the
warranty on the evaporator coil in the A/C units of these cars to 7 years
or 70,000 miles.

Inadequate/misaligned headlamps are the source of many
LH-car owner's dissatisfaction. Chrysler has issued several bulletins
on this problem which has also been mentioned in otherwise enthusiastic
auto magazine reviews of the sedans. Fit and finish flaws
have produced both complaints and a flurry of bulletins from Chrysler
to its dealers. Chrysler's head of manufacturing was quoted in an automotive
trade publication as being particularly unhappy with the LH-car's ill-fitting
doors.

You'll find more information on these and other Chrysler LH defects below
and what you can do about them plus a complaint
box
. Your information will help us build a strong case against Chrysler
on the defects we know about and help us spot new ones.

We need you to support the Center for Auto Safety in our fight for consumer
rights and against poorly designed and unsafe cars. Your contribution
is tax-deductible and
entitles your to our quarterly newsletter, Lemon Times. Please
submit the membership form along with your
contribution and complaint. If you contribute $35 or more, we will send you the current edition of The Ultimate Car Book, by Jack Gillis. Every home should have this
invaluable consumer guide.

Sincerely,

Clarence M. Ditlow

Executive Director
